- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, this is Danielle Harris from some of the Halloween movies,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and you are listening to Movie Meltdown. What's up, and
- 0:35Speaker 1: welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 0:37Speaker 2: And I'm Phillip.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 0:40Speaker 1: the haunted firehouse for Halloween fun. Happy Halloween!
- 0:45Speaker 2: Happy Halloween!
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's pretty exciting. It's a crisp 89 degrees out.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Is it? I meant to look at the temperature.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I don't know. It's definitely... cooler than it has been
- 0:58Speaker 1: but it's it's concerning you know in general that like
- 1:01Speaker 1: why is it still freaking hot.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Typical this part of the country yeah it's right now
- 1:07Speaker 2: the current temperature on what is this october 3rd or
- 1:12Speaker 2: 4th yeah october 4th It's October.
- 1:15Speaker 1: We've crossed over in October. It's officially fall.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And I got 76 degrees and sunny on my phone.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Last week it was still over 90 one of the days. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it doesn't really chill out like it used to.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But here's, you know, bullshit about living in this part
- 1:32Speaker 2: of the country. I walk outside at 530 this morning.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I don't know why I was outside. I don't even
- 1:39Speaker 2: remember leaving the apartment. I just know I was outside.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I like wandering around in the dark.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It was dark, but it was also hot out.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 2: In October, at 5.30 in the morning, it should be
- 1:50Speaker 2: chilly outside.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's better. That's one of the reasons I go
- 1:54Speaker 1: out when it's that early. I'm like, ah, I like
- 1:56Speaker 1: this comparatively. It's still freaking hot for October, but it's
- 2:01Speaker 1: almost comfortable compared to what it's going to be in
- 2:03Speaker 1: a few hours.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I mean, I am wearing jeans for the first time
- 2:06Speaker 2: in four months.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I try to wear jeans at all times. Or pants
- 2:11Speaker 1: of some sort.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I wear the short pants, you know.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Jorts.
- 2:16Speaker 2: If you like.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I saw a pair the other day and I was like, yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 1: they're still cranking these things out, aren't they?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I remember the first time I was shamed for wearing
- 2:25Speaker 1: some of those. I was like, oh, maybe I guess
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm done with short pants.
- 2:28Speaker 2: You know, I wore them for a long time before
- 2:30Speaker 2: someone- Yeah, me too. Bought me for wearing jorts.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I didn't think about it.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Specifically jorts.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And then this- She was an asshole. Of course. As
- 2:38Speaker 1: long as I knew her, she was an asshole. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm assuming still is to this day. Thankfully, I don't
- 2:42Speaker 1: see this woman anymore. But yeah, made some comment about jorts.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, well, I guess I'm done
- 2:48Speaker 1: with shorts now. Because that's pretty much all I had, really.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I didn't dress like a grown up.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I had them for a long time, too. And now
- 2:56Speaker 2: I am the first to admit I am the cargo
- 2:59Speaker 2: short wearing guy. And somebody was mocking me for having
- 3:03Speaker 2: all these pockets with nothing in them. And I proved
- 3:06Speaker 2: that I had at least one thing in each pocket sometimes, too.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I feel like cargo shorts works okay. Cargo pants always
- 3:15Speaker 1: seems silly.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I haven't worn cargo pants in a very long time.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I've had people try to defend those to me lately.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And I'm like, it's fine if you want to wear them.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I'm just like, it just seems like it's... Like cargo
- 3:27Speaker 1: shorts is already casual because you're in shorts. So who cares?
- 3:30Speaker 1: And like, you can have giant stuff in your pockets
- 3:32Speaker 1: and it's cool. But like cargo pants always seems like, well,
- 3:36Speaker 1: now you look like you're wearing like khakis and you
- 3:37Speaker 1: want to be fancy, but you got these big dumb
- 3:39Speaker 1: looking pockets on the side. And now it's no longer,
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's casual in a way that's too casual. I don't know.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's weird.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Well, I lived with a person who I used to
- 3:49Speaker 2: have to do their laundry. And this person, um, I'm
- 3:55Speaker 2: trying to limit the details here.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's for the best.
- 3:57Speaker 2: For legal reasons. No, this person had to wear cargo
- 4:03Speaker 2: pants for their job. And like I said, I did
- 4:07Speaker 2: the laundry in the house and they would never empty
- 4:10Speaker 2: their pockets. So I would spend literally 20 minutes just
- 4:13Speaker 2: emptying emptied and not only emptying but looking for pockets
- 4:18Speaker 2: on these pants.
- 4:19Speaker 1: If you have a job that's fitting like if you
- 4:21Speaker 1: are in fact a ghostbuster you know they got a
- 4:24Speaker 1: lot of.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Stuff this person was not a ghostbuster brand.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Just saying i'm giving a good example as opposed to
- 4:29Speaker 1: that party but if you if you have a reason
- 4:32Speaker 1: to have again you're like a soldier and you got
- 4:34Speaker 1: bullets down your leg you know and like those cool.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Little uh.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It's not a bandolier when it's attached to you, but
- 4:41Speaker 1: if you've got those little attachments so you can like
- 4:43Speaker 1: load it right into your, like a cowboy's hat on
- 4:45Speaker 1: their vest and you can just load bullets right into
- 4:47Speaker 1: your vest.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know what that's called.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a cool look if you want to, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: go out and shoot a lot of people, which I,
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, try not to do, but I said try.
- 4:55Speaker 2: We all have our moments.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I said try. But yeah, that's a cool look if
- 5:01Speaker 1: you have like specific things that need to go on
- 5:03Speaker 1: your person and you have clothes for that. But yeah, otherwise, cargo,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I don't know. Write in. Tell us what you think.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Go to the website. There's an email on there.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I understood why this person had so much crap in
- 5:17Speaker 2: their pockets. What I didn't understand was why they couldn't
- 5:23Speaker 2: empty their pockets before throwing everything in the laundry basket.
- 5:26Speaker 1: That's a very grown-up behavior. Does that seem like what
- 5:29Speaker 1: would be fitting of this party?
- 5:30Speaker 2: No, that's true.
- 5:31Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I mean, the pants went into the hamper, Brian, with
- 5:36Speaker 2: stuff in them. That's all I'm going to say about that.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I have these grown-up complaints every once in a while. Again,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I behave like a 12-year-old most of my life.
- 5:45Speaker 2: As do I.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So it's weird to me when I'm the one, here's one,
- 5:49Speaker 1: here's a regular world thing. This is just pretending to
- 5:52Speaker 1: be a grown-up talk. Why can't you just put your
- 5:58Speaker 1: trash can out and then bring it back in? Isn't
- 6:01Speaker 1: that the grown-up thing to do?
- 6:02Speaker 2: I would think so, yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I mean... I have parties where I live that just
- 6:07Speaker 1: put it out there and then just leave it. I'm like,
- 6:11Speaker 1: but we don't all want to drive around your garbage
- 6:14Speaker 1: can in the way. Just be a grown up and
- 6:16Speaker 1: take your damn trash can back like you're supposed to.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't know. These are the kind of things as
- 6:20Speaker 1: a grown up you have to deal with. And so
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's weird when I'm the one being like, come on,
- 6:25Speaker 1: be a grown up, do your responsible thing. Cause I'm
- 6:27Speaker 1: just like, as I'm going to go eat candy for dinner,
- 6:30Speaker 1: which is not true, but most of my life has
- 6:33Speaker 1: operated along those lines.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Sure, sure. And on your street, too, with the trash cans,
- 6:39Speaker 2: there's no way to go up and down it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: There's no room. That's why I'm like, dude, seriously, just
- 6:45Speaker 1: be a responsible adult and move your damn trash.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I feel like people in your area probably, I wouldn't
- 6:53Speaker 2: put it past them to put trash cans in empty
- 6:56Speaker 2: parking spaces that belong- To somebody who lives there.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I could see that. It doesn't seem like it's that bad.
- 7:02Speaker 2: No, that's good.
- 7:03Speaker 1: But you never know. Weird things go on over there
- 7:07Speaker 1: in the murder lot. Speaking of spooky things.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Did somebody get murdered recently?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Not that I've seen, but I don't go back there either.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So there's a creepy gravelly lot that I used to
- 7:16Speaker 1: make them park at when we still recorded there. So
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's referred to as the murder lot. Mostly by me.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I don't know that the other neighbors do because I
- 7:23Speaker 1: don't talk to my neighbors.
- 7:24Speaker 2: God forbid. I... The first time I went there, I
- 7:28Speaker 2: was like, this is where I get... This is where
- 7:31Speaker 2: my life ends, is right here. And it hasn't yet.
- 7:34Speaker 1: They won't even have a real knife. It'll be a
- 7:36Speaker 1: makeshift knife.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Shiv gonna grab a lot somewhere. It's bound to
- 7:41Speaker 1: happen eventually. Happy Halloween! Happy Halloween! On our Halloween note,
- 7:48Speaker 1: I didn't want to break too far from tradition, but
- 7:51Speaker 1: at the same time, I'm also trying... to control myself
- 7:57Speaker 1: as referenced in eating candy for dinner. I don't try
- 8:01Speaker 1: to do those sort of things now, but I didn't
- 8:02Speaker 1: want to too far break from tradition. So I found
- 8:06Speaker 1: the smallest bag of candy I could come up with.
- 8:09Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But I also, these are oddly shaped like pumpkins, and
- 8:14Speaker 1: I was like, I want to try Reese cups that
- 8:16Speaker 1: are shaped like pumpkins, not in the way the other
- 8:18Speaker 1: ones are that are flat shaped like a pumpkin. These
- 8:21Speaker 1: are round shaped like a pumpkin. So... I also don't
- 8:25Speaker 1: know that they didn't get melty on the way here because,
- 8:27Speaker 1: as previously mentioned, it's not cool outside. So, we can
- 8:30Speaker 1: test those out, but I specifically wanted to go minimal. Oh, sure.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Because I'm trying not to be able to dress like
- 8:36Speaker 1: Jabba the Hutt for Halloween. I at least want to
- 8:39Speaker 1: graduate up to Robba the Hutt. I mean... I gotta
- 8:42Speaker 1: keep working those abs.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I mean, Jabba's cool if it's an option, but if
- 8:46Speaker 2: it's your only option, it's less cool.
- 8:48Speaker 1: If that's your life. Not good, but... Well, I.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Happen to have And the funny thing is, I bought
- 8:54Speaker 2: these the other day, totally forgetting that today's episode was
- 9:00Speaker 2: coming up. But I have the Mike and Ike Sour
- 9:03Speaker 2: Spooky Treats that I have tried. And I will say,
- 9:07Speaker 2: these are better than the Skittles that taste like dirt.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I will, just for Halloween's sake, give these a shot.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And I'm going to try the pumpkins, if you're cool
- 9:16Speaker 2: with me opening these.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Definitely.
- 9:18Speaker 2: But.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I don't know if we need utensils if we have
- 9:20Speaker 1: to George Costanza our candy because they aren't individually wrapped
- 9:23Speaker 1: according to the package. Oh, these look.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Oh, they smell good. Yeah, these are not all melted together.
- 9:31Speaker 1: All right. That's a bonus.
- 9:32Speaker 2: And these look like.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I'm going to be honest with you. If I didn't
- 9:36Speaker 2: take it out of a bag that said mini pumpkins,
- 9:38Speaker 2: my first thought would not be this is a pumpkin.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just kind of round.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Well, it's kind of round.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And flat on the bottom. But in a different way
- 9:46Speaker 1: than the other typical ones they do for Halloween.
- 9:49Speaker 2: It almost looks like a football with a toenail. Weird.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I like the color on these.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It's quite delicious.
- 9:57Speaker 1: These Mike and Ikes are orange and purple and green.
- 9:59Speaker 1: which are very spooky.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah, the flavors for that are sour ghoulish grape, sour
- 10:07Speaker 2: orange scream, and sour wicked watermelon, which it seems like
- 10:13Speaker 2: they ran out of steam when they got to naming
- 10:15Speaker 2: the watermelon, but they're actually not bad.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Just got purple i like purple.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah the purple was the uh sour ghoulish grape.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah the watermelon's a weird mixture it's a little weird
- 10:29Speaker 1: with the other two the other two kind of work
- 10:31Speaker 1: together and then you're like oh and watermelon.
- 10:35Speaker 2: The mini pumpkins are are decent they could use a
- 10:38Speaker 2: little bit more peanut butter but uh.
- 10:40Speaker 1: That was half my reason i wanted to see that
- 10:42Speaker 1: I wanted to see how they worked consistency-wise, because that
- 10:46Speaker 1: becomes a thing for me with candy. Again, trying to
- 10:49Speaker 1: not eat candy all the time. But one of my
- 10:51Speaker 1: favorite aspects of it is like, how does it work?
- 10:55Speaker 1: How does it break down as you're eating it? That's
- 10:57Speaker 1: a big part of eating candy to me.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, these are pretty good. Yeah. I'm not complaining about them.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I also feel like there's different levels of peanut butter
- 11:06Speaker 1: with the Reese's. And they'll probably pretend like it's not.
- 11:12Speaker 1: But I feel like some of the holiday ones are
- 11:14Speaker 1: like a cheaper grade of peanut butter. Like your original
- 11:17Speaker 1: regular old Reese cups are like grade A, top of
- 11:20Speaker 1: the line peanut butter.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And then the weirder shaped ones, sometimes they're like, I
- 11:24Speaker 1: don't know, just put some of this crap in there.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I don't know if the weirder shaped ones, if it
- 11:30Speaker 2: is a cheaper version of peanut butter or if it's
- 11:34Speaker 2: an older tub of peanut butter that they get it from.
- 11:38Speaker 1: They're just recycling the old stuff. Mm-hmm.
- 11:41Speaker 2: But it is, in my opinion, it is grainier.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It does not have as rich of a flavor in
- 11:50Speaker 2: the peanut butter. It's not as smooth.
- 11:54Speaker 1: This is somewhere in the middle. I don't know that
- 11:56Speaker 1: this is 100% regular O'Reathy Cup grade A. But it's
- 12:01Speaker 1: not as bad as some of the cheap ones I've had. Oh, no, no.
- 12:04Speaker 2: It's a lot better than the Christmas tree ones.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I also had one in... You've worked places that probably
- 12:12Speaker 1: had candy there at some point. At one point when
- 12:15Speaker 1: they were supposed to be throwing out the old candy,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and then some idiots that worked there, who shall remain nameless,
- 12:21Speaker 1: maybe me, was like, well, what if I just take
- 12:24Speaker 1: this and I can eat it? Yeah, when you're eating
- 12:27Speaker 1: Reese's Cups, and these were original style Reese's Cups, but
- 12:30Speaker 1: they were like well past the date, which you know
- 12:32Speaker 1: the date usually lasts until like the end of time.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Pretty much.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Like they're meant to last through a nuclear apocalypse. But,
- 12:40Speaker 1: This was past that?
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Grainy is an understatement. Yes. It breaks down in a
- 12:47Speaker 1: weird way that's not food-like anymore.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Well, it almost turns into a powder in your mouth.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not good. So just in case you were wondering,
- 12:55Speaker 1: should I eat really old candy?
- 12:57Speaker 2: No, don't.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Public service announcement.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Now and laters are the only candies that I have
- 13:04Speaker 2: found I won't say they get better with age, but
- 13:08Speaker 2: at a certain point, they get rock hard, so you
- 13:11Speaker 2: can't just chew into them.
- 13:12Speaker 1: It's an all-day event.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Because you will lose a tooth. Yeah, it is. But
- 13:15Speaker 2: it becomes an all-day sucking candy. And, you know, Lifesavers,
- 13:21Speaker 2: you can't do that with because they get all gooey
- 13:23Speaker 2: after a while. It's really weird. What's the one? Starburst. Starburst.
- 13:28Speaker 2: They get old, and then they eat the paper.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Like, the candy eats the paper. Yeah, they attach themselves
- 13:32Speaker 1: to the paper in a way that they do not
- 13:34Speaker 1: separate anymore, so you just have to also eat the paper.
- 13:36Speaker 2: But are really old now and later?
- 13:40Speaker 1: I would say it's a case-by-case basis. This depends on
- 13:43Speaker 1: the person you talk to. Some parties will vote for peeps,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and I would say that's not a holiday, but now
- 13:49Speaker 1: they make peeps for every holiday, and just year-round for
- 13:52Speaker 1: regular old occasions, so. They have like 4th of July Peeps,
- 13:57Speaker 1: which seems like a weird combination.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I can't decide. Full disclosure, not a Peeps fan.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I thought you were not a Peeps person anyways, though.
- 14:07Speaker 1: That's why I was like, I'll bring it up, but
- 14:09Speaker 1: you're not going to be on board more than likely.
- 14:10Speaker 2: But I can't figure out if they fall specifically into
- 14:16Speaker 2: a candy category. Because they're mostly marshmallow.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It's certainly not good for you. How about that?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Well, that's true. But are we considering marshmallows to be candy?
- 14:32Speaker 1: The sprinkles is candy you like. Whatever it is. It's
- 14:37Speaker 1: just grade of some sort sugar, but I don't know
- 14:42Speaker 1: what level of sugar, like, If you're just eating packets
- 14:45Speaker 1: of sugar, does that count as candy? Wait, pixie sticks.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So yes, yes it does.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Pixie sticks have added coloring.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And that Coke straw, which is really what we're all
- 14:57Speaker 1: looking for. Just mainlining that shit.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yep, putting my Cap'n Crunch on my sandwich and using
- 15:04Speaker 2: my pixie stick as a straw.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Candy talk. That's what we're really here for in October.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Candy talk. So, also, just update, I guess we should
- 15:18Speaker 1: welcome our newest Horror Club member.
- 15:21Speaker 2: We have a new member?
- 15:22Speaker 1: As you know, we only have three members, except now
- 15:25Speaker 1: I guess we have three and a half.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Because our other party cranked out a child. I'm sure
- 15:31Speaker 1: she would love that I described it that way.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Actually, we'll have to get the story firsthand. We just
- 15:37Speaker 1: got a photo going, look, here's one of these kids.
- 15:40Speaker 2: You got a photo?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Of the kid?
- 15:42Speaker 1: You did, too. Of the kid, though? She's holding it.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 15:46Speaker 1: And then there's the other one where she said he
- 15:47Speaker 1: was a vampire baby. She sent one where he was sleeping,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and I asked if she'd seen him turn into a
- 15:53Speaker 1: bat yet. That seems very much like me. You can't
- 15:57Speaker 1: argue that. It does. It does.
- 16:00Speaker 2: But, you know, I have the mind of a spider monkey, so....
- 16:08Speaker 1: Well, I'm sure he's smarter than the rest of us.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So now she's in charge and then he's like second
- 16:14Speaker 1: and then we're down at the bottom in this horror club.
- 16:17Speaker 1: And I was going to give him a shout out
- 16:18Speaker 1: by name, but I don't think she's officially announced him
- 16:21Speaker 1: by name.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I don't remember hearing a name.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm just calling him Pierce Jr. until we get a
- 16:25Speaker 1: different name. So welcome little Pierce Jr. He may or
- 16:29Speaker 1: may not be a vampire. We're still not sure.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I mean, it's a pretty safe bet that he's a vampire.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Giving parties. See, there you go. Oh, that's definitely a
- 16:40Speaker 2: vampire baby.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 2: He's a vampire.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We're pretty sure. I can't.
- 16:43Speaker 2: It's hard to tell by the way this picture is framed,
- 16:46Speaker 2: but he may be hanging from the ceiling as he's sleeping.
- 16:50Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Anyway, congratulations, Pierce and Nora. Yes.
- 16:55Speaker 1: We are glad to have, again, as I've said many times,
- 16:58Speaker 1: I ain't looking for kids. But if anybody, and most
- 17:01Speaker 1: people I come in contact with in the world, I
- 17:04Speaker 1: tell them stop having children. But I think I even
- 17:06Speaker 1: said to her, I was like, you know, if anybody
- 17:09Speaker 1: is okayed by me to have kids, it's you two. Like,
- 17:12Speaker 1: if anybody's actually going to be a good and responsible
- 17:15Speaker 1: parent and needs to have a child, it's you guys.
- 17:18Speaker 1: So I'm okay.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Very few people in the world will say that, too.
- 17:23Speaker 1: So she's a very special breed.
- 17:24Speaker 2: All I know is one day this kid will be
- 17:26Speaker 2: one more person I have to fight for a parking spot.
- 17:29Speaker 2: But until that day, welcome to the world.
- 17:33Speaker 1: He also inherits this podcast, I assume. Of the three
- 17:37Speaker 1: of us, she's the first one to have a child.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I think it's safe to say only one.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I mean, if I have my way and I'm assuming
- 17:45Speaker 1: you have your way, and he's first born of her,
- 17:48Speaker 1: so he's next in line. So, good luck, kid.
- 17:53Speaker 2: You know, that's comforting to me.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not on us anymore.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I feel horrified for him, but comforted for us.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It's not on us anymore. Somewhere down the line, you're
- 18:01Speaker 1: going to have to take this over and keep this
- 18:02Speaker 1: train running. So, good luck, kid. so there you go
- 18:09Speaker 1: there's our update that's why it's just the two of
- 18:11Speaker 1: us sitting here in this truncated holiday special because we're
- 18:15Speaker 1: down one thanks to childbirth so she says she'll be
- 18:19Speaker 1: back we're hoping because we've got more horrible things planned
- 18:23Speaker 1: for her to watch.
- 18:24Speaker 2: So yeah and we need a smart person on this.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Show yeah really I mean otherwise we just sit here
- 18:28Speaker 1: and talk about candy and having to drag trash cans
- 18:31Speaker 1: yeah This is why we need somebody who's responsible to
- 18:35Speaker 1: be in charge of this.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Sure, sure, sure.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So, if we're pretending like it's a normal Horror Club episode,
- 18:42Speaker 1: have you seen anything creepy lately?
- 18:45Speaker 2: I am almost finally, I know it's been years, but
- 18:50Speaker 2: finally almost caught up with Stranger Things.
- 18:53Speaker 1: All right. Watch season three.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I actually- I just got to the mall. Last week,
- 18:59Speaker 2: I watched season four. Today I started season five.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You are almost up to six or eight months ago,
- 19:05Speaker 1: however long it's been now.
- 19:07Speaker 2: However long, yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 1: People have moved on. Little Eleven's already got six more
- 19:13Speaker 1: Netflix things and projects.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Oh, does she really?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Man, she is hooked up with some Netflix, let me
- 19:18Speaker 1: tell you. Good for her. Outside of Godzilla, I don't
- 19:21Speaker 1: know if she's ever done anything that wasn't. Everything she's
- 19:23Speaker 1: done over the years has been Netflix-backed. Yeah. And I've
- 19:28Speaker 1: seen her in interviews recently. After the fifth season there,
- 19:30Speaker 1: she did some interviews. And she was just... She knows
- 19:34Speaker 1: where that bread is buttered, man. She was just like, Netflix,
- 19:37Speaker 1: all right. I was just like, I don't blame you, man.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I will take a check.
- 19:41Speaker 2: From them right now.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Yeah, that was interesting. And really, it's it's
- 19:47Speaker 1: a shame for her because my opinion the world now
- 19:50Speaker 1: revolves around sadie sink so i hate to tell you
- 19:55Speaker 1: she's gonna take over oh pretty much yeah i'm all
- 19:57Speaker 1: for it she seems awesome so anything she wants to
- 20:00Speaker 1: be in even if she's an ex-woman they never really
- 20:04Speaker 1: upgraded that they're still x-men after all these years That's true.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Even though half of them are women, so it's really weird.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you do? Because, I mean, X-Men, well, yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 2: but there's also women and then X-Women, but you've still
- 20:20Speaker 2: got the X-Fellas and X-People.
- 20:24Speaker 1: X-People just sounds dorky.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It just hits the ear holes weird.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. But she was good in that movie. Sure.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to where they go with that one. Yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Not so. On the creepy end, what do you think of,
- 20:39Speaker 1: we'll say four first. What did you think of season four?
- 20:42Speaker 2: Season four I really liked. Was really, really bummed out
- 20:48Speaker 2: when they killed one of the new characters that they
- 20:50Speaker 2: introduced for that season.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Let me guess. gas the one that everybody loved and
- 20:58Speaker 1: whined about when they killed them which I was just
- 21:00Speaker 1: like I understand I feel that way too also because
- 21:03Speaker 1: it was a pointless way to kill them just like
- 21:06Speaker 1: oh cause it's gonna look cool that's reason enough to
- 21:09Speaker 1: kill off the character that everybody likes cause it'll be
- 21:11Speaker 1: an album cover moment yeah I mean that's pretty much
- 21:14Speaker 1: what it was dude that looks bitchin oh wait he's
- 21:17Speaker 1: dead that was stupid so yeah why did you need
- 21:21Speaker 1: to do that other than it looked cool for a
- 21:22Speaker 1: minute whatever Yeah. That was one that I wondered if
- 21:29Speaker 1: they were going to cave. Because each season, they've brought
- 21:33Speaker 1: in this new lovable character and then killed them off
- 21:36Speaker 1: very quickly. It happened every time, I feel like. Yeah, even...
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean, third one, they also brought in a villain-type
- 21:45Speaker 1: character and killed them off. But definitely one and two,
- 21:49Speaker 1: there was a big fan favorite that they killed off
- 21:52Speaker 1: halfway into the run.
- 21:53Speaker 2: When they killed off Mikey from Goonies, I was.
- 21:55Speaker 1: That was season two, yeah. I was upset. I was like, Barb.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Barb was the big sacrifice season one. Everybody loved Barb.
- 22:03Speaker 1: And then we got Mikey. And then I'm trying to think.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I mean, they killed the brother off by season three.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Spoilers for... I don't know who hasn't seen freaking Stranger
- 22:11Speaker 1: Things at this point. They killed.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Was his name Billy?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Well, the brother, yeah. Yeah, but he was creepy. That's
- 22:17Speaker 1: what I'm saying. He was the villain of that season,
- 22:19Speaker 1: kind of. But by the end, you were like, oh, well,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I still... I mean, he's a racist asshole, but I
- 22:23Speaker 1: still kind of feel he also was that way because
- 22:26Speaker 1: of his horrible upbringing. So it's not totally his fault,
- 22:29Speaker 1: but he still sucked. So you felt a little bad
- 22:32Speaker 1: for at least Sadie because she still cared about her brother.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Even though he sucked.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Well, and I thought they were going to kill her off, too.
- 22:39Speaker 2: And I was not going to.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Well, they play that card for two seasons.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Well, I know, but I'm just saying at the end
- 22:44Speaker 2: of season four, I thought that they were going to.
- 22:47Speaker 2: She was gone and I was not going to be
- 22:49Speaker 2: happy about that.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Don't worry, that will continue.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Oh, I know. I'm dealing with the.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I mean, at least they give her something to do
- 22:57Speaker 1: in this season, but she's still in a coma, and
- 23:01Speaker 1: yet they give her something to do. And then we
- 23:03Speaker 1: get a whole new character that kind of takes over
- 23:05Speaker 1: the show, but I'm not complaining.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Because they're cool, too. I haven't gotten that far yet, so.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You probably have. The extra little sister.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 1: But she's like a big focus of this season now,
- 23:17Speaker 1: so it's weird that she... Just like she was there before,
- 23:21Speaker 1: but you didn't pay any attention to her as a character.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And now it's just like, oh no, we've graduated. These
- 23:26Speaker 1: people are all in their 40s now. Pretend like it's
- 23:29Speaker 1: still the same month and they're all in high school.
- 23:31Speaker 1: But realistically, all these people are old. So we're going
- 23:33Speaker 1: to bring up this new kid. The new kid.
- 23:35Speaker 2: That's what's funny about season four is it all takes
- 23:38Speaker 2: place while they're on spring break. Exactly. So it's all
- 23:41Speaker 2: in about the span of a week's time.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Even though they're all pushing 30 now.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 23:47Speaker 1: It's like these high school kids are all pushing 30.
- 23:48Speaker 1: This has been going on for a decade.
- 23:51Speaker 2: There was one person that they showed a close-up on,
- 23:54Speaker 2: and I think they're supposed to be 17 or 18.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And I'm like, that person is clearly in her early 30s.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Looks great for early 30s, but... They all do.
- 24:04Speaker 1: But you're not children anymore.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Let's... But to be fair, though, I remember... You know,
- 24:11Speaker 2: because those... The older kids in that series are in
- 24:14Speaker 2: high school about the same time my aunt, who's seven
- 24:17Speaker 2: years older than me, would have been in high school.
- 24:19Speaker 2: And I remember at that time thinking those people looked like... Grownups.
- 24:24Speaker 2: They looked more like grownups than when I finally made
- 24:28Speaker 2: it to that age.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Plus, this is just a tradition of television.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Oh, sure, that too.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Everybody looked like they were in their mid-30s on 90210,
- 24:36Speaker 1: even though it was supposed to be high school, so...
- 24:40Speaker 1: That's always kind of how TV works. Yeah. Even happy days. Like,
- 24:44Speaker 1: Richie was not a teenager. He'd been making freaking Roger
- 24:50Speaker 1: Corman movies for the last decade before that. So he
- 24:53Speaker 1: wasn't really a teenager.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Well, and Fonzie, I mean, I don't know how old
- 24:57Speaker 2: he's supposed to be in the show, but he's clearly
- 24:59Speaker 2: way older than.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Well, it's one of those, like, shouldn't we all be
- 25:03Speaker 1: weirded out? This old dude's just kind of hanging out
- 25:05Speaker 1: with a bunch of high school kids. Granted, once again,
- 25:08Speaker 1: I operate like I'm at best in high school, but
- 25:12Speaker 1: I still don't hang out with those kids.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I feel like I operate in that summer between 8th
- 25:18Speaker 2: and 9th grade, you know?
- 25:20Speaker 1: I do reference usually, I'm like, maybe 12, you know?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 1: But then, like, I got to the point I could
- 25:25Speaker 1: drive so I could go places. I still do that.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So somewhere between 12 and 16, you know, seems about
- 25:31Speaker 1: right for my mentality.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And the way I operate on my day-to-day life.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Which comes in handy for the movie we'll be talking
- 25:40Speaker 2: about later.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Most definitely. Was that all you had seen?
- 25:45Speaker 2: That's all I remember seeing. I think I watched something else,
- 25:48Speaker 2: but I couldn't tell you what. I've had a long week.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Well, I saw one recently, and I once again am
- 25:54Speaker 1: just now catching up, but it's not my fault because
- 25:57Speaker 1: they kept putting it on. First of all, they didn't.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It was only available to rent at home when it
- 26:02Speaker 1: left the theaters, which I didn't get to in theaters. Sure.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And then they kept putting it on streaming services I
- 26:06Speaker 1: didn't have.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Which was annoying.
- 26:08Speaker 1: So it just now finally hit. And then by the
- 26:11Speaker 1: time I saw it, they were like, leaving soon. I'm like, bastards,
- 26:14Speaker 1: they just showed up. So I finally watched The Substance. Ooh.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Have you seen The Substance?
- 26:21Speaker 2: Yes, I have seen The Substance.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I mean, I knew. That's a journey of a movie.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I knew to some extent, like at least what I
- 26:30Speaker 1: was getting myself into, which is, Like, for people that
- 26:33Speaker 1: went there and were shocked by it, I'm like, really? Like,
- 26:35Speaker 1: pay attention. Like, duh. That's the whole point of this movie.
- 26:39Speaker 1: But I did not know how weird it was going
- 26:41Speaker 1: to be in the process. Like, I expected gross at
- 26:44Speaker 1: least to a good amount. But it is all kinds
- 26:47Speaker 1: of body horror. And then on top of that, it's
- 26:50Speaker 1: just weird. Like, just the concepts that come into play.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I'm like, it's just a weird movie.
- 26:56Speaker 2: It's an odd movie when you really stop to think
- 26:59Speaker 2: about what, The character or characters, however you want to
- 27:03Speaker 2: define it.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Kind of the same, but not really.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Whatever they're going through is weird. And then the
- 27:12Speaker 2: last 15 minutes just takes a left turn.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I'd say more than 15 minutes.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it did go on fairly long.
- 27:19Speaker 1: 20 to 25. I was like, how many? It's like
- 27:22Speaker 1: 11 endings. I keep thinking, all right, we're there. What
- 27:25Speaker 1: a weird way to go out. Nope, still more. Okay.
- 27:28Speaker 1: But now, I mean, we're wrapping up. geez, how long
- 27:31Speaker 1: is this?
- 27:31Speaker 2: I mean, I get it.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It's on purpose. It's not like it's bad filmmaking. It's
- 27:37Speaker 1: meant to be. No, it never gets bad.
- 27:38Speaker 2: It just gets so bizarre.
- 27:41Speaker 1: It's very long.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And it's like Japanese level bizarre.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Insanity. Yeah. The thing that I thought was really interesting
- 27:52Speaker 1: was also just how popular it got. Like it was
- 27:58Speaker 1: mainstream popular. And then I watched it and was like,
- 28:00Speaker 1: this is really weird for something that got like, I mean,
- 28:04Speaker 1: to the point of getting like Oscar nominations level of
- 28:07Speaker 1: mainstream popular. I was just like, that's not normally how
- 28:11Speaker 1: this kind of crazy nonsense works. Like there's plenty of
- 28:14Speaker 1: movies like this out there, but it's usually just weirdos
- 28:16Speaker 1: like us that are sitting around talking about them. But
- 28:18Speaker 1: the fact that this was like super high level, like
- 28:22Speaker 1: in the spotlight showbiz. And I was just like, No,
- 28:26Speaker 1: I mean, I get it. It's top tier, A game,
- 28:30Speaker 1: big budget movie, but at the same time, it is
- 28:32Speaker 1: a weird movie.
- 28:33Speaker 2: It's a weird, weird movie. I recommend it to anybody
- 28:39Speaker 2: with a strong stomach as far as gore goes, because
- 28:42Speaker 2: it It's weird. It's gross. 15 minutes into it, it
- 28:45Speaker 2: gets gross. And just, and just when you think that's
- 28:49Speaker 2: going to level off it.
- 28:50Speaker 1: And I, yeah, it's one of those, like, I knew
- 28:52Speaker 1: that much of it. So like, I didn't have any
- 28:54Speaker 1: problem with it. Yeah. I was just surprised that it kept, like,
- 28:57Speaker 1: it just didn't, I assume we were going there and
- 28:59Speaker 1: then it would move on with the plot. But I'm like,
- 29:01Speaker 1: That's just the plot. It just continues on with the
- 29:04Speaker 1: grossness for the next two hours. Cause it's a long movie.
- 29:07Speaker 2: It is a long movie.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And yeah, it is just, it is a lot of
- 29:10Speaker 1: weirdness and a lot of gross things going on, which again,
- 29:13Speaker 1: I'm all good with that. But I will say, I
- 29:17Speaker 1: want to ask when, when we lure her back out
- 29:21Speaker 1: of baby dumb, I want to see if Nora has
- 29:23Speaker 1: seen it and what her opinion on not just this.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Cause I I'm okay with how I feel about this.
- 29:30Speaker 1: But I was just like, who is this director? And
- 29:32Speaker 1: then I realized it's the same director who did Revenge,
- 29:35Speaker 1: which I don't know if you saw that one.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't remember.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I watched it. it because I heard such good things
- 29:41Speaker 1: about it. And I felt creepy about Revenge because it
- 29:46Speaker 1: felt like it was almost exploitative to the female character.
- 29:50Speaker 1: And then I saw it was directed by a woman.
- 29:52Speaker 1: And I was just like, wait, what? It didn't feel right. Right.
- 29:57Speaker 1: and this is the same director. And I'm like, okay,
- 29:59Speaker 1: now it feels like it works. Like this is meant, like,
- 30:02Speaker 1: I feel like what's going on in this movie is
- 30:04Speaker 1: satire first and foremost. And it's like on an extra level,
- 30:08Speaker 1: like it's dialed to 11 on purpose in the way
- 30:11Speaker 1: that it's sexualizing specifically the younger version, because that's the
- 30:15Speaker 1: point because that's the joke. That's the, the level of
- 30:19Speaker 1: like satire is like, everything is about this girl's looks.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Like everything is, that she is like top tiered, the
- 30:29Speaker 1: hottest thing in the world right now. And like, so
- 30:31Speaker 1: we're going to play with that. We're going to use
- 30:35Speaker 1: the camera as a way to look at her in
- 30:37Speaker 1: a creepy way. And that's the point of what I'm doing,
- 30:41Speaker 1: which is fine in this ridiculous, silly over the top satire. Right.
- 30:45Speaker 1: The other one's just like a revenge movie. That's like, again,
- 30:50Speaker 1: she's like sexually assaulted. Like it's horrifying what's going on
- 30:53Speaker 1: in the first half of this movie. And then she
- 30:55Speaker 1: gets revenge by the title of the movie. But they,
- 31:00Speaker 1: I don't know, like it still felt like a creepy
- 31:02Speaker 1: tone in that first movie. So I want to see
- 31:05Speaker 1: if you're not a dude, like so specifically I go
- 31:08Speaker 1: to Nora, I respect her opinion and she's a woman.
- 31:11Speaker 1: So I kind of want to know what her take is. She,
- 31:14Speaker 1: if she's seen Revenge and, And then if she's seen Substance,
- 31:17Speaker 1: how to compare and contrast.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Well, I watched The Substance with a woman. I mean,
- 31:24Speaker 2: it was her. I had no idea. And I saw
- 31:29Speaker 2: Demi Moore in the description.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Who is amazing. Absolutely. They both are amazing. Oh, my God.
- 31:34Speaker 1: They were both incredible.
- 31:35Speaker 2: And, you know, what's funny is it tells you a lot.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Because I'm sure every actress in Hollywood... could relate to that,
- 31:47Speaker 2: you know, to the aging out thing. And then especially
- 31:50Speaker 2: when you have a, uh, a person who is, is frankly,
- 31:55Speaker 2: Demi Moore is just gorgeous in this movie, you know,
- 31:59Speaker 2: but she's treated like crap because she's getting older, you know,
- 32:02Speaker 2: that's a setup, but yeah, no, I watched it with
- 32:05Speaker 2: a woman. She suggested it. She was like, yeah, right
- 32:10Speaker 2: away was picked up on, you know, all the life.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Yeah. This is how it works. It's just, like, extra
- 32:17Speaker 1: intensified when you're in the media spotlight. Yeah. But, you know, otherwise,
- 32:21Speaker 1: this is still how it works for every woman out there. Like,
- 32:25Speaker 1: guys get old and lame, but, you know, guys are
- 32:26Speaker 1: already kind of lame, so, like, nobody cares.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Occasionally, there's, like, a hot dude out there, and he
- 32:32Speaker 1: might have a little extra, but still not even close to, like,
- 32:35Speaker 1: women in general.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Dealing with this bullshit that goes on.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:39Speaker 1: So, yeah, it was definitely interesting.
- 32:42Speaker 2: It was very interesting. Yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I liked, again, I liked the filmmaking, the performances. And again,
- 32:49Speaker 1: even the end, it's overlong, but it's doing it on purpose.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Like it's making a point. Like that is the, like
- 32:56Speaker 1: the overkill of it is the point I feel like.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So I was kind of artistically okay with it. I
- 33:04Speaker 1: get why I still would be okay if it was
- 33:07Speaker 1: a little shorter runtime, but I understand why that end
- 33:11Speaker 1: goes on like it does. definitely interesting it's yeah and
- 33:18Speaker 1: full-on again like i knew some extent of the body
- 33:21Speaker 1: horror but like yeah if you want body horror it
- 33:25Speaker 1: is so much body horror like yeah it is finding
- 33:29Speaker 1: new ways to be body horror i was like yeah
- 33:31Speaker 1: yeah i've seen a lot of body horror and this
- 33:33Speaker 1: is definitely a whole new entry here i would um.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I would definitely put this up with cronenberg level.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Of it's very Very having just in the last couple
- 33:46Speaker 1: of years, watched Videodrome and loving it. Well, man, in
- 33:51Speaker 1: the worst part. I mean, it's so weird and it's
- 33:53Speaker 1: so messed up. And I'm like, that's why it's amazing.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Even the fly, which is probably one of his. less
- 34:00Speaker 2: grotesque movies has some pretty intense.
- 34:03Speaker 1: It's definitely the most like acceptable mainstream of his, of
- 34:07Speaker 1: that era of his movie. Again, later he got respectable
- 34:09Speaker 1: and he was on the Oscars, you know, it's like he,
- 34:11Speaker 1: he got to be a full fledged film director for
- 34:14Speaker 1: regular people, not just weirdos like us. So, but yeah,
- 34:17Speaker 1: the fly, I mean, in the moment where her character
- 34:21Speaker 1: ear falls off, I was just like, all right, there's
- 34:22Speaker 1: your little shout out. Like that is definitely a, a
- 34:25Speaker 1: brundle fly moment.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:29Speaker 1: It's a, It's a fun moment when his ear falls off. Yeah.
- 34:36Speaker 1: But I was impressed with it.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 34:38Speaker 1: It's massively well made.
- 34:40Speaker 2: It's a fine movie. I mean, the only time I got,
- 34:45Speaker 2: the only time I was like, why am I still
- 34:47Speaker 2: watching this, was in that last segment that just goes
- 34:51Speaker 2: on and on and just gets so weird.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Yes, it does. Yeah. And it's not that I'm not
- 35:00Speaker 2: trying to give anything away. I just don't know how
- 35:02Speaker 2: to describe that ending.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Well, I mean, again, there's so many. It's different aspects
- 35:07Speaker 1: of it, too. Because I kept thinking, and this is where, okay,
- 35:10Speaker 1: this would work as its own ending. And then it
- 35:12Speaker 1: becomes a different thing. And I'm like, okay, well, this
- 35:15Speaker 1: would also work as an ending. And then eventually it
- 35:17Speaker 1: sort of bookends the opening scene. And that's the part
- 35:21Speaker 1: I was just like, all right, well... I would hope
- 35:24Speaker 1: this is where it ends because now it at least
- 35:26Speaker 1: makes sense to counterbalance the opening. So yeah, it was,
- 35:30Speaker 1: it was impressive in its own weird artistic way. Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Any other fun activities before we roll into the movie?
- 35:43Speaker 2: I think that's all I got for now.
- 35:45Speaker 1: All right. It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Ugh, Halloween. All the lame-o's come to school in costumes.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Watch it. Like they have bat signal. Aaron Riley is
- 36:00Speaker 1: crazy hot. You got the invite to his party tonight, right?
- 36:03Speaker 1: I noticed you and I are listed in the top 200.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I think it's alphabetical.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Oh, my God. He's coming over. You're coming to the party, right?
- 36:10Speaker 1: We will definitely be there.
- 36:11Speaker 2: It's all falling into place.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Invited to Aaron Riley's party. Costume figured out. As for April?
- 36:20Speaker 1: I'm betting sexy kitty. Which just leaves my little brother. Albert! Gross.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Whatever. For once, he's not my problem.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Oh no, I forgot to tell you. You're gonna watch
- 36:30Speaker 1: Albert tonight.
- 36:31Speaker 2: No.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Mom, the party. Don't do this to me. I love you.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 36:34Speaker 1: You're welcome.
- 36:35Speaker 3: This sucks.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I can't believe we're missing the party. It's Erin. A
- 36:40Speaker 1: smiley face emoticon?
- 36:41Speaker 2: That seals the deal, Ren.
- 36:43Speaker 1: That is how love works. Where's Albert?
- 36:45Speaker 2: Albert!
- 36:47Speaker 1: Albert! Albert! My mom is gonna kill me. What's up, Spidey?
- 36:52Speaker 1: You just chilling out here by yourself? You don't have
- 36:54Speaker 1: any friends or anything? I'll tell you what.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I need a man for a mission to avenge one
- 36:58Speaker 2: broken heart. Are you in?
- 37:01Speaker 1: Take your time.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Bam!
- 37:05Speaker 1: If we don't find your brother soon, we're gonna miss
- 37:07Speaker 1: the party.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Oh, nerd alert.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Hey, guys, we need a car. The thing is, I
- 37:12Speaker 1: can't drive with anyone outside my immediate social circles.
- 37:15Speaker 2: But we're friends. Uh.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Should go.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Prostitution.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I know a place we can ask 200 people if
- 37:26Speaker 1: they've seen us.
- 37:26Speaker 2: I don't really get all the hype about Aaron.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Well, A, he's gorgeous. And B, please refer to A.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I'm actually a worse parent than my mom.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Come on.
- 37:36Speaker 1: How much trouble could he get into? You might want
- 37:37Speaker 1: to put your mask on.
- 37:38Speaker 2: You're about to be an accessory to a major crime.
- 37:40Speaker 1: It's my duty to tell you you are one step
- 37:42Speaker 1: away from total social suicide. Trick or treat, bitch! Please,
- 37:53Speaker 1: we have a situation involving a musket and a drumstick.
- 37:57Speaker 2: I have this.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I did not have it. This Halloween Truncated Horror Club
- 38:16Speaker 1: Sofa Theater feature is fun size. The year is 2012.
- 38:21Speaker 1: The director is Josh Schwartz, and the plot, according to IMDb,
- 38:26Speaker 1: Rin's Halloween plans go awry when she's made to babysit
- 38:30Speaker 1: her brother, who disappears in a sea of trick-or-treaters. With
- 38:33Speaker 1: her best friend and two nerds at her side, she
- 38:36Speaker 1: needs to find her brother before her mom finds out
- 38:38Speaker 1: he's missing. Spoiler alert! That's pretty accurate, because there's not
- 38:44Speaker 1: much else going on in this movie. So, yes. Full
- 38:48Speaker 1: spoilers for a movie that you probably wouldn't have bothered
- 38:51Speaker 1: to watch because only a child would pick this movie. And, oh, wait,
- 38:54Speaker 1: I came up with this idea.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 1: So in my usual maybe around 12-year-old mind, I was like, yeah, yeah,
- 39:03Speaker 1: I think we should talk about this. Because it wouldn't
- 39:05Speaker 1: come up in a normal Halloween year because Nora would
- 39:08Speaker 1: be there and she'd want to watch like a real
- 39:10Speaker 1: horror movie probably and not this child nonsense. And I
- 39:14Speaker 1: was like, well, we're already doing silly stuff this last
- 39:18Speaker 1: run of the last half of the year here. So
- 39:21Speaker 1: this is a very silly movie.
- 39:23Speaker 2: When you recommended or assigned or however it works.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I just came up with this dumb idea.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah, well, when you... you said, let's watch this movie.
- 39:31Speaker 2: I said, fine. I've, I've never heard of this movie.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I know nothing about it.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I was kind of surprised by that.
- 39:37Speaker 2: And then as soon as it started and the whole, um,
- 39:42Speaker 2: when the Nickelodeon logo popped up, I.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Was like, Oh, now I know.
- 39:47Speaker 2: And, and just some clarification. Um, And I don't say
- 39:52Speaker 2: this is a bad way. I just know that Brian,
- 39:54Speaker 2: myself included, but Brian is the sort of person that
- 39:58Speaker 2: has continued to watch Nickelodeon far after most people considered
- 40:02Speaker 2: it acceptable.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I will say it's weird that I will have
- 40:07Speaker 1: a tie in for that avenue, but I wasn't. When
- 40:12Speaker 1: it came to the sitcoms that they started cranking things out,
- 40:16Speaker 1: I was way less Nickelodeon. Sure. I saw a lot
- 40:19Speaker 1: more of those Disney Channel shows than a normal human being,
- 40:21Speaker 1: certainly an adult without children, should have seen. So, yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of those, especially that era. Whatever
- 40:30Speaker 1: they're making now, I don't see because now everything's streaming
- 40:32Speaker 1: and I don't like purposely put anything on streaming. When
- 40:36Speaker 1: it was literally a channel, it was just on a
- 40:38Speaker 1: lot because I'd have TV on in the background all
- 40:40Speaker 1: the damn time. And yeah, I just saw a lot
- 40:44Speaker 1: of those shows. Whereas now that you have to like
- 40:46Speaker 1: seek them out and do it, I don't really do
- 40:48Speaker 1: that anymore.
- 40:49Speaker 2: And I'm not knocking it. I am saying as a
- 40:53Speaker 2: youngish adult with his own place, I would specifically drive
- 40:57Speaker 2: over to your house to watch certain shows that were
- 41:01Speaker 2: on Nickelodeon.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Because we're children.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Because we are children. We are children. It's fine.
- 41:06Speaker 1: So that was the thing. I remember when this trailer
- 41:11Speaker 1: came out back in the day, back in the 2012 day,
- 41:14Speaker 1: and I remember seeing the ads on TV. I don't
- 41:18Speaker 1: even think I saw... Again, I wasn't going to the
- 41:20Speaker 1: theater in front of which they would have been playing
- 41:23Speaker 1: that trailer. So I probably only saw TV ads. And
- 41:27Speaker 1: I just remember going... the hell is this? I just
- 41:31Speaker 1: remember in the trailer, they played the humping chicken scene.
- 41:36Speaker 1: And I was just like, what kind of kids movie
- 41:39Speaker 1: is this? And that will be the theme of this episode.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Sure.
- 41:43Speaker 1: So that was why the more I thought about it,
- 41:45Speaker 1: because I just watched it like a couple of years ago.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I didn't see it when it first came out. I
- 41:49Speaker 1: didn't watch it in years after when it probably came
- 41:52Speaker 1: on cable. And I just ran across a copy of
- 41:55Speaker 1: it and went, I wanted to see this mostly for
- 41:57Speaker 1: Jane Levy. Let's check this out. And I finally watched
- 42:00Speaker 1: it a couple years ago and went, what kind of
- 42:02Speaker 1: a kid's movie is this?
- 42:04Speaker 2: For a PG-13 rated movie distributed by Nickelodeon, it is
- 42:12Speaker 2: awfully bawdy.
- 42:13Speaker 1: It is. Well, it's just weird the choices it makes. Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 1: That's why, I mean, in addition to it being very
- 42:20Speaker 1: Halloween themed, so it was fitting for our ongoing series
- 42:23Speaker 1: of Halloween movies during October. But I thought if nothing else,
- 42:29Speaker 1: that aspect, like if it were just a dumb kids movie,
- 42:31Speaker 1: I don't think there'd be that much to talk about.
- 42:34Speaker 1: But the fact that it's this weird, can't decide who
- 42:37Speaker 1: it's for movie. I'm like, there'll be a lot of
- 42:40Speaker 1: that to discuss if nothing else. So that's mostly why
- 42:43Speaker 1: I was like, that's what we should watch this month.
- 42:45Speaker 1: We should watch fun size. So yeah, I'd say we
- 42:51Speaker 1: just kind of can address all of these things as
- 42:53Speaker 1: we go. So, Weird tone, I'm just going to say.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Do we want to address the, mostly it's just the, well, no,
- 43:05Speaker 1: that's not true. There's a lot of weird casting in this. Yeah.
- 43:09Speaker 1: There's a lot of recognizable names. Yeah. And very 2012.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Very 2012.
- 43:15Speaker 1: In the moment of, oh, look who it is in 2012.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Huh.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I forgot about them.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Two in particular stand out. I mean, there were several
- 43:23Speaker 2: that it was like, oh, it's good to see this person.
- 43:25Speaker 2: But there were two that I was like, I was
- 43:27Speaker 2: not expecting to see them in a PG-13 Nickelodeon movie.
- 43:32Speaker 2: A phrase I'm probably going to be saying a lot today.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Well, and that's, as I said, if I would reference
- 43:38Speaker 1: a show, I get to make, I don't normally have
- 43:42Speaker 1: an excuse to talk about Victoria Justice. So this is
- 43:45Speaker 1: my chance to make the comment that I make anytime
- 43:48Speaker 1: I think about her show, which is probably more than
- 43:51Speaker 1: a normal human, but still not that often because I
- 43:54Speaker 1: didn't love it. but I saw a lot of episodes
- 43:57Speaker 1: of victorious, which was her Nickelodeon show and how she
- 44:00Speaker 1: got this movie.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Which one was that?
- 44:03Speaker 1: Was it the, and that's the, that's the, the artisty
- 44:06Speaker 1: kids show. Oh, and that's the one that this is
- 44:09Speaker 1: why I think is so funny. And, and so weird
- 44:13Speaker 1: of her as an actress that you're going to build
- 44:16Speaker 1: this movie around because she is definitely the lead of
- 44:19Speaker 1: this movie. Even though to me, Jane Levy is definitely
- 44:24Speaker 1: more of a, an, interesting actress to watch yeah and
- 44:27Speaker 1: will like you could feel she's already above and beyond
- 44:31Speaker 1: this movie like i feel like i feel like she
- 44:33Speaker 1: signed the contract before everything kicked in because she's already
- 44:38Speaker 1: on suburgatory at this point so like she really i'm
- 44:40Speaker 1: like she had a network show already she didn't need
- 44:43Speaker 1: to be doing nickelodeon crap but i'm sure once again
- 44:46Speaker 1: she made the deal a while ago and like was
- 44:47Speaker 1: just like oh okay whatever but So it's weird that
- 44:52Speaker 1: they build it around their star, I'm using air quotes,
- 44:55Speaker 1: Victoria Justice, because the whole point of that show, and
- 44:59Speaker 1: once again, that show was also built around her. It
- 45:03Speaker 1: has her name in the title.
- 45:04Speaker 2: It's Victorious.
- 45:07Speaker 1: So it's just like weird that they put all their
- 45:10Speaker 1: eggs in this Victoria Justice basket because... She's just so bland.
- 45:18Speaker 1: She's just not a leading... Or maybe she's a leading
- 45:22Speaker 1: character in the way that most leading characters in sitcoms
- 45:25Speaker 1: are the most boring one. Jerry's the most boring character
- 45:29Speaker 1: of the four of them. It's like you watch... Everybody
- 45:32Speaker 1: Loves Raymond, which I hadn't watched much of, but now
- 45:34Speaker 1: it's on repeat all the time, and I keep seeing episodes,
- 45:37Speaker 1: and I'm going, well, the parents are way more entertaining.
- 45:41Speaker 1: His brother's more entertaining. Like, even his wife's more entertaining.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I'm like, so again, I guess you put the most
- 45:46Speaker 1: boring person there to build the interesting stories around, because
- 45:51Speaker 1: then you're not distracted by them doing anything distracting, because
- 45:54Speaker 1: they're just kind of like, meh, here they are. That
- 45:57Speaker 1: is Victoria Justice.
- 45:58Speaker 2: But her character was so... Strange in this movie because
- 46:04Speaker 2: she looked like the cool kid. But she didn't act
- 46:08Speaker 2: like the cool kid. But she had the cool kid friends.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Kind of, but not really.
- 46:13Speaker 2: But the coolest kid in school invited her to his party.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Again, this is why, and this is what I think
- 46:20Speaker 1: is so weird. I'll get back to her show in
- 46:22Speaker 1: a minute because it makes this point. But I think
- 46:25Speaker 1: that's how she got the show. That's how she got
- 46:27Speaker 1: the movie. On paper, she should be the biggest star
- 46:30Speaker 1: in the world.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Sure.
- 46:31Speaker 1: She is. aesthetically it makes sense. Look at her. Okay.
- 46:36Speaker 1: I get it. She's like competent as an actress. She
- 46:39Speaker 1: like everything about her seems like you should be the
- 46:42Speaker 1: biggest star in the world. And yet somehow it just
- 46:46Speaker 1: falls flat. And I don't, I, again, I think it's
- 46:50Speaker 1: just like, there's just not a spark to her that
- 46:53Speaker 1: like even one step over in the cast and Jane
- 46:56Speaker 1: Levy has. And like you watch suburgatory and it's like
- 46:59Speaker 1: a million times more entertaining than because it's built around her.
- 47:02Speaker 1: And it's like, it's just whether you have that, that charisma.
- 47:06Speaker 1: And I'm like, no offense to Victoria, but I'm like,
- 47:09Speaker 1: she just doesn't have it. But the thing that I
- 47:12Speaker 1: think is so funny about her show that they built
- 47:14Speaker 1: around her and the whole thing is about being like,
- 47:17Speaker 1: essentially it's all forms of artists. It's just like an
- 47:21Speaker 1: artisty kind of a school for showbiz kids.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Gotcha.
- 47:24Speaker 1: And they all kind of have a different thing that
- 47:26Speaker 1: they're into. So that again, as a generic sitcom, everybody
- 47:29Speaker 1: has their thing in quotes. but they're still mostly music oriented. Yeah.
- 47:35Speaker 1: And so it's all kids who want to be like
- 47:37Speaker 1: big music stars one day. So it's so funny to
- 47:41Speaker 1: watch the show now because you're like, it's a classroom
- 47:45Speaker 1: and unusual classroom sitcoms. There's like eight people in the class, right?
- 47:50Speaker 1: No class I ever was in was like this, but
- 47:52Speaker 1: all right, whatever this classroom of eight people. And it's
- 47:56Speaker 1: right in the center. Here's Victoria justice. Who's going to
- 47:58Speaker 1: be a music superstar, right? Look over to desk. It's
- 48:02Speaker 1: Ariana Grande for fuck's sakes. I'm like, you built your
- 48:06Speaker 1: show around Victoria Justice when sitting right there is Ariana Grande,
- 48:11Speaker 1: who is now one of the biggest stars in the world. Nickelodeon,
- 48:15Speaker 1: you dropped the ball. I'm just saying. But even then,
- 48:19Speaker 1: it's even funnier these last couple of years because you
- 48:23Speaker 1: branch out in that room. I didn't really know by name,
- 48:28Speaker 1: but Leon Thomas... Is one of the other kids in
- 48:31Speaker 1: the room. He's gone on to be a big producer,
- 48:35Speaker 1: but he's also been a music artist every step of
- 48:37Speaker 1: the way. In the last couple of years, he's gotten
- 48:40Speaker 1: a couple of Grammys. Wow. So he is now. So
- 48:43Speaker 1: in that room, there are two Grammy winners, neither of
- 48:46Speaker 1: which is Victoria. Jeez. So I was like, you built
- 48:50Speaker 1: your show around being a music superstar around this one girl.
- 48:53Speaker 1: But meanwhile, you've got this whole room full of people
- 48:56Speaker 1: that go on to be music superstars.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Oh, that's Leon. Yeah.
- 49:00Speaker 1: He's been in a ton of stuff. He actually seems
- 49:02Speaker 1: pretty cool. I don't love that song. He just won a...
- 49:05Speaker 1: I just got sick of it. He just won a
- 49:07Speaker 1: Grammy for it, I think, or that album that it
- 49:09Speaker 1: came off of. But I was just like, I saw
- 49:12Speaker 1: him win. I was like, good for you, man. Way
- 49:14Speaker 1: to come out of that show. And once again, just
- 49:16Speaker 1: kind of stick it to Victoria Justice. Sure. Because he...
- 49:20Speaker 1: Elizabeth Gills is in there. I mean, hell, even she
- 49:22Speaker 1: went on to make a Christmas album with Seth MacFarlane.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Figure that out, by the way. That's a lot of
- 49:29Speaker 1: words that I have to put together. I don't understand
- 49:31Speaker 1: any of that. Even when I saw the album come out, like,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I know... He wants to be a crooner. He still
- 49:37Speaker 1: thinks he's Frank Sinatra Jr. I don't understand why exactly,
- 49:40Speaker 1: but he still wants to do that. But how she
- 49:44Speaker 1: ended up with him on this album, I don't know.
- 49:47Speaker 1: So once again, someone else sitting in that same classroom
- 49:50Speaker 1: has gone on to do more music stardom than Victoria Justice.
- 49:54Speaker 2: It's so funny because he is, on the one hand,
- 49:57Speaker 2: he is that whole Rat Pack swinging era, and also
- 50:01Speaker 2: a huge fan of Kiss.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Also, a big Star Trek nerd. And a big Star
- 50:07Speaker 1: Trek nerd. All of those things are way cooler than
- 50:11Speaker 1: being the offensive family guy comedy. I lost so much
- 50:16Speaker 1: respect for him when he was putting out some of
- 50:19Speaker 1: the garbage. Don't get me wrong. There's moments in Family
- 50:22Speaker 1: Guy that are very funny, amusing somewhat here and there.
- 50:27Speaker 1: It's still so lowest common denominator on its comedy a
- 50:31Speaker 1: lot of the time. And it just says things just
- 50:34Speaker 1: to be offensive. And I'm like, that gets old real fast, dude.
- 50:37Speaker 1: So like he has so much better in him. And
- 50:41Speaker 1: I don't think I realized it until he did his
- 50:43Speaker 1: own knockoff Star Trek show.
- 50:44Speaker 2: And I was just like, which is pretty kick.
- 50:46Speaker 1: This is actually a really well written show. And like,
- 50:50Speaker 1: you're not even bad in it. I just can't take
- 50:52Speaker 1: you seriously. Cause I know you're Seth MacFarlane. So nothing
- 50:56Speaker 1: comes serious coming out of your mouth. Like it seems
- 51:00Speaker 1: weird casting you in this. But, like, as the showrunner
- 51:04Speaker 1: writer that he was, I'm like, this is a solid
- 51:06Speaker 1: sci-fi show.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 1: That was, like, pushing the envelope, like, doing plot lines,
- 51:11Speaker 1: and I'm like, Star Trek wouldn't touch. And this is
- 51:14Speaker 1: way more interesting than some of the stuff they were doing. So, like, again,
- 51:18Speaker 1: he's an interesting guy, but how Elizabeth got hooked up
- 51:22Speaker 1: with him, I don't know. And why she became a
- 51:26Speaker 1: bigger star than Victoria Justice, well, you make up your
- 51:30Speaker 1: own mind, but... So that was my minor slamming of
- 51:34Speaker 1: Victoria justice. Now that we've got that out of the way,
- 51:37Speaker 1: I just think it's funny that once again, they just
- 51:40Speaker 1: much like the show, they just built this movie around her.
- 51:43Speaker 1: Like she's the biggest thing in the world.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:46Speaker 1: Again, looking at the poster or the box when it
- 51:48Speaker 1: came out, I'm like, it's just this huge shot of her.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And Jane's like way in the back is a little
- 51:53Speaker 1: minor care. I was just like, really? I was like, whatever, man, whatever.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Like, Well, you were all excited about Jane Levy being
- 52:02Speaker 2: in it, and so I thought it was going to
- 52:05Speaker 2: be her movie until I sat down to watch it.
- 52:08Speaker 1: I mean, even as I went back to watch it,
- 52:12Speaker 1: like I said, a couple of years ago, and this
- 52:14Speaker 1: is the first time I've seen it since then, I
- 52:15Speaker 1: still remembered her being more of it.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I mean, and also, she's kind of an asshole friend
- 52:21Speaker 1: the whole movie.
- 52:22Speaker 2: She really is.
- 52:23Speaker 1: By the very end, she's like, oops, sorry about that. Like, that,
- 52:26Speaker 1: I guess, is supposed to make up for the fact
- 52:28Speaker 1: that she's just a terrible friend the whole rest of
- 52:30Speaker 1: the movie.
- 52:30Speaker 2: But I think that's the formula for when you've got
- 52:34Speaker 2: the kids that are trying to become part of the
- 52:36Speaker 2: cool group. One of them has to be an asshole to, like.
- 52:40Speaker 2: forego all the stuff that they do normally just so
- 52:43Speaker 2: they can become, you know, the popular kids.
- 52:45Speaker 1: And Victoria is such a goody goody. Like you have
- 52:48Speaker 1: to have, like, it's going to be the most boring
- 52:51Speaker 1: thing in the world. If Jane's also nice. So I'm like,
- 52:53Speaker 1: she has to counterbalance her being like the most square
- 52:57Speaker 1: person that's ever lived. So yeah, thankfully her little brother
- 53:02Speaker 1: is super cool. A little brother kicks ass.
- 53:05Speaker 2: I was a bit shocked. Uh, the first time we
- 53:09Speaker 2: see him, Which is a shot of him sitting naked
- 53:13Speaker 2: on the toilet.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Which is really a weird thing to work into any movie,
- 53:17Speaker 1: let alone this movie. But I was just like, yeah,
- 53:20Speaker 1: I mean, that didn't need to be our introduction to him.
- 53:22Speaker 1: But here we are. Here we are. Here we are.
- 53:25Speaker 2: And, you know, I mean, people sit naked on the
- 53:28Speaker 2: toilet all the time. I myself have done it at
- 53:30Speaker 2: least twice.
- 53:34Speaker 1: So... What the hell is that kid's name?
- 53:39Speaker 2: Um... in the movie or in real life.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Oh it's Jackson that's right Jackson Nicole I don't know
- 53:46Speaker 1: how you pronounce this it's N-I-C-O-L-L but Jackson is how
- 53:51Speaker 1: we will refer to him because I just talked about
- 53:54Speaker 1: him a lot earlier this year for his other movie
- 53:58Speaker 1: this is a spiritual prequel to Bad Grandpa Have you
- 54:03Speaker 1: seen Bad Grandpa?
- 54:05Speaker 2: No, but I know what you're talking about.
- 54:06Speaker 1: But yeah, you know what it is. The reason Bad
- 54:09Speaker 1: Grandpa exists is because of this movie. It's because the
- 54:13Speaker 1: whole end of the movie is Johnny Knoxville trying to
- 54:16Speaker 1: kidnap this kid. And I.
- 54:19Speaker 2: That's one of my two surprise guest stars.
- 54:22Speaker 1: My theory when I was discussing Bad Grandpa is how
- 54:27Speaker 1: they were so endeared to each other is the kid
- 54:29Speaker 1: went up and hit him in the nuts. And that's...
- 54:32Speaker 1: If anything is going to endear you to Johnny Knoxville.
- 54:35Speaker 2: That's the move. It's kidding. Yeah, I mean.
- 54:38Speaker 1: So... That, that is all it took. And Johnny Oxville's like,
- 54:42Speaker 1: I like this kid. Let's go make a movie together, kid.
- 54:44Speaker 1: So they did. And it's, it's as entertaining as any
- 54:48Speaker 1: jackass nonsense is.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Oh, sure.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Yeah. I enjoyed it as much as I like all
- 54:53Speaker 1: of the jackass things, which is a weird sliding scale
- 54:57Speaker 1: for me. It's like, I get it. Yeah. But it
- 54:59Speaker 1: also gets old too. I don't know. I'm more interested
- 55:03Speaker 1: in the real world of it sometimes of like, especially
- 55:05Speaker 1: that movie of like trying to figure out how did you,
- 55:08Speaker 1: plan this where you didn't get shot or somebody didn't
- 55:12Speaker 1: murder you in the pretend of this bullshit. Like, yeah, it's,
- 55:17Speaker 1: It's an interesting movie as well.
- 55:19Speaker 2: I remember the trailer for it thinking that exact same thing.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because I hadn't seen it until this recent watch,
- 55:24Speaker 1: and I was just like, what is this? Like, this
- 55:27Speaker 1: is a weird... Because it's basically Jackass, but with a plot. Yeah.
- 55:31Speaker 1: It strings together, but they're still just like broken up
- 55:34Speaker 1: little bits. Like, you could watch those, and they stand
- 55:37Speaker 1: completely on their own. It's just then they put a
- 55:40Speaker 1: through line of him and the kid on this road trip.
- 55:43Speaker 2: But I mean, it's shot with like unsuspecting.
- 55:46Speaker 1: the rest of the time, most of the people, there's
- 55:49Speaker 1: a handful of plants along the way that are the, well, again,
- 55:53Speaker 1: you don't even see most of them, I think. But
- 55:55Speaker 1: every once in a while, I think we figured out
- 55:57Speaker 1: that there were a few sort of in there to
- 55:59Speaker 1: keep things going when need be. But for the most part,
- 56:02Speaker 1: most of the people that he deals with have no
- 56:05Speaker 1: idea what the hell is going on.
- 56:06Speaker 2: That is a bold move.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Especially for the level of, The shenanigans that those guys
- 56:14Speaker 2: get into.
- 56:14Speaker 1: They always get into, yeah.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Well, still are.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I mean, they just put out a new movie. Yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 1: And one of them, well, actually, several of them already
- 56:22Speaker 1: are dead, but I don't think they're going to be
- 56:24Speaker 1: happy until one of them dies on camera as they're
- 56:27Speaker 1: launching him out of a port-a-potty or whatever stupid thing
- 56:29Speaker 1: they're about to do.
- 56:30Speaker 2: You know, the fact that there's, and not to get
- 56:32Speaker 2: a whole deranged with Jackass, but the fact that there
- 56:36Speaker 2: are bits where Steve-O has been like, no.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I'm not doing that.
- 56:41Speaker 2: That's too dangerous.
- 56:42Speaker 1: When you make Steve-O say no, you're in trouble. It
- 56:47Speaker 1: says a lot about your life, Johnny. So yes, there's
- 56:49Speaker 1: your big reveal of Johnny Knoxville.
- 56:53Speaker 2: I will say that kid in this movie totally kicked ass.
- 56:57Speaker 2: And at first I thought, okay, it's going to be
- 56:59Speaker 2: the dorky little brother. And no, this kid is... And
- 57:03Speaker 2: he inspired me for my next Halloween costume, which is
- 57:07Speaker 2: One-armed Spider-Man with a pumpkin stuck on my head.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Spider-Man with his arm ripped off is genius, I will say.
- 57:15Speaker 1: I was just like, yeah, I kind of forgot about
- 57:18Speaker 1: that part until I got back into this. I was like,
- 57:19Speaker 1: oh yeah, that is an epic costume. Gotta say, I
- 57:23Speaker 1: like that. He is good. This is like the one-two
- 57:28Speaker 1: punch of his career. Because as we dug into that movie,
- 57:31Speaker 1: I was like, dude, I think that's it. I think he...
- 57:35Speaker 1: he like grew up and went fishing, which is a
- 57:37Speaker 1: weird part in that movie. He wanted to be like,
- 57:40Speaker 1: let's go fishing. Like he kept talking about it in the,
- 57:43Speaker 1: in the grandpa movie. And then like the only thing
- 57:47Speaker 1: we had to go on was like finding him on
- 57:49Speaker 1: Instagram and it's all pictures of him catching fish. Like
- 57:52Speaker 1: he literally grew up and just like went to go
- 57:54Speaker 1: hang out on a boat. And like, it's just him
- 57:57Speaker 1: holding fish. And then by the end of it, I
- 57:59Speaker 1: think he actually got married. Cause he's like a grownup now.
- 58:01Speaker 1: And it's disturbing that he's a grownup, but like, Cause
- 58:04Speaker 1: he still seems like that dorky weird kid, but like
- 58:06Speaker 1: now he's old enough to get married and.
- 58:09Speaker 2: I mean, good for him if that's how he wanted
- 58:10Speaker 2: his life to go.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Catching fish and getting married. I guess those are good
- 58:15Speaker 1: things to happen if that's what you're looking for. But yeah,
- 58:19Speaker 1: he's like surprisingly entertaining in this movie. And especially since
- 58:25Speaker 1: it's mostly a wordless performance, he is, he's just pantomime
- 58:29Speaker 1: child for most of the movie. Like. Which is also,
- 58:33Speaker 1: I mean, this is a movie of cliches taped together. Like,
- 58:37Speaker 1: it's not the most inventive of plots, but that is
- 58:40Speaker 1: like the most, oh, it's the little kid who doesn't
- 58:43Speaker 1: say a thing until the end of the movie. It's
- 58:45Speaker 1: the tiny Tim and Scrooge. It's like, it's the same
- 58:48Speaker 1: thing it's always going to be. Like, they go around
- 58:51Speaker 1: and don't say anything until some poignant moment at the
- 58:53Speaker 1: end of the movie.
- 58:54Speaker 2: According to Wikipedia, since 2017, or 2017, however we're supposed
- 58:59Speaker 2: to say it, I don't give a fuck.
- 59:00Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 59:01Speaker 2: Since then, he has retired from acting and spends most
- 59:04Speaker 2: of his time chronicling his fishing excursions.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Yep.
- 59:07Speaker 2: He is a full-time captain for Algaron. Deep Sea Fishing
- 59:11Speaker 2: and Whale Watching.
- 59:12Speaker 1: There you go.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Good for him. That's pretty awesome.
- 59:15Speaker 1: That kid made his dreams come true.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Wow, he made... Jesus Christ. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
- 59:25Speaker 2: ten movies.
- 59:26Speaker 3: 11 well okay one of those was a short film
- 59:30Speaker 3: so we'll say nine movies 10 if you count uh
- 59:34Speaker 3: bad grandpa 0.5.
- 59:37Speaker 1: Which actually he's barely in i know because i also
- 59:40Speaker 1: watched that in preparation i did way more preparation than
- 59:43Speaker 1: any human being needs to do for bad grandpa by
- 59:46Speaker 1: the way But I also watched The 0.5, which is
- 59:50Speaker 1: an entire another feature length movie of just other things
- 59:54Speaker 1: they shot. And most of them, the kid isn't even
- 59:58Speaker 1: in because it's stuff that like most of the horrifying
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: stuff they kept him away from, really. Well, that's not
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: that I give much credit to that crew, but like
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: it's a lot more of of it's Johnny and the director,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Spike Jonze. Yeah. I forget how Spike Jones is like
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: knee deep in the jackass world. Like he's half the
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: reason that whole crew came together. So yeah, the episode,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: the episodes in that don't have the through line of
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: a story. It's just like, here's another hour and a
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: half of more crap that we shot. And half of
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: it is Spike Jones in weird old lady makeup as
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: a counterbalance to Johnny and old man makeup. And it's inappropriate.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Things are going on. So fair warning. It's, It's even
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: more disturbing than Bad Grandpa.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: If that's what you're looking for. So, yeah. Thomas Middleditch, though.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I was glad to see that.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Which one was that?
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Fuzzy. Fuzzy? Oh, man. Fuzzy's pretty entertaining. I feel like
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Fuzzy could be his own version of this movie. He
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: kind of is. I mean, it's a separate storyline going on,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: but you could have just given him his own Halloween movie,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: and I would have been fine with that.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Fuzzy... The character Fuzzy was great... about saying out loud
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: questions i had in my head like right when i
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: started to think him he would address them as a
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: character like i'm not luring kids to my car when
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: he's clearly leering a child into his car.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: My favorite is the reason he thinks the little kid
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: is cool he's just he's so like starstruck by this
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: kid that's super awesome at mario kart yeah well And
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: was just, like, literally kept going on about it. He's
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: just like, hey, man, next time I see you there,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: I'll spot you some quarters, like, because you're, like, you know,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: you're a superstar. He's just like, man, he is really, like,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: enamored with this child.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: And back to your point earlier, is sugar candy. I mean,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: he does give them sugar packets.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: He just gives them packets of sugar. He's mainlining it.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: That's how you do it, man.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Yeah, Fuzzy was awesome.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Fuzzy is pretty good.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: I didn't think I'd like him at first, but.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Again, he has the most entertaining plot, really. Yeah. Because
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: he gets into more ridiculous things as we go. And, like,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: the other one is just the looking for my brother. And, like,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: once you've set that up, it's just, like, they barely
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: wander around. They just kind of.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Well, and with Fuzzy's plot line, I mean, let's be honest.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Who has not tried.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Who.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Amongst us has not attempted to get revenge on an
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: ex-girlfriend only to... Get the neighbor next door by mistake.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: I mean, we've all done it. Come on.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Come on.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: We've all done it.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: We've done it.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I also, again, minor tie in there, but the three
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: kids doing the same thing. The kids. Tonight we're out
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: for revenge. You know, she's like, she broke my heart, man.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: It's just like, it was a great moment. And that's,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: what's weird about this movie because there's so much of it.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: That's like uneven. Yeah. Like, it's like, there's moments of
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: genius in there that I'm like that. was great like
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that like she broke my heart man and i was
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: just like holy shit that is so like a great
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: little moment and then there's other parts of it that
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: are just the most routine made by nickelodeon no effort
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: paint by numbers genericness teen comedy and then there's other
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: stuff that i was like this has flair here and
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: there like it's moments of genius and i'm like that
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: makes it worth watching but like.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: I forgot about the the other kids who were out
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: doing that because they're Thinking back on it now, it's
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: like they almost wasted those characters, because I think you
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: see them twice, and that's it.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: I think that's my bigger question. As I got to
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: the end of this, and I was like, this is
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: not a great movie, but there's great stuff in it.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: There's great stuff in it.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: And I'm like, that's why I was trying to decide,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: what is it? Because there's many other movies that are
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: kind of this scenario.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: There were things in this movie that I would compare... uh,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: to super bad. Well, I was like, when did that
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: come out?
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Well, I was like, can't hardly wait. Yeah. I was
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: like this cause I was like, it's such a huge
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: cast and we spend almost too much time on too
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: many characters. I was like, I feel like that's half
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: the problem is our two main leads. Like we don't
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: really know much about like one's boring. The other one
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: complains a lot. And like, that's pretty much all we
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: get out of them. And then there's a, wrap up
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: at the end. And like, we, we have so little
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: character development in any of the four of them, but
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: even our two main leads, we don't really have much from.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: So I was like, is it just, we spend too
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: much time with all these, we had so many cameos
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: that like we had to make sure to work in
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: all these other people that we never spend time with
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: our main core characters. And so we don't care about
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: people that much, but I was like, But Can't Hardly
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Wait kind of works. And there's a lot of actors
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: in that movie.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: There's a lot of people in that movie.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: So I'm like, why does that one work? Or Superbad,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: at least that's kind of four once again. But you
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: feel like you get to know those four by the
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: end of it. I don't know. I've spent so much
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: time trying to decide what it is that's off about this.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: And some of it, I think, is, again, just the
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: unevenness of the weird references and tone that also kind
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: of comes into play.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I just kept thinking of other
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: movies that had like a big cast that I'm like,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: sometimes it works. So why is this one off? I
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: don't know. But I do feel like that's part of
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: the problem.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: We still like... They're more than cameos sometimes, so we
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: spend too much time with them. But then there's other
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: ones that I like seeing them, so I'm like, well,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: I don't want to say cut them out of the movie. Right.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: So I'm like, I don't know what to do with
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: it as a plot. It's weird.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: I mean, you really... We'll talk about my first surprise
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: in this movie was Chelsea Handler, who I think was
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: fantastic in this movie. But I almost feel like we
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: could have, and we don't get much, but I think
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: they could have cut out even more of her story
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: at being her bullshit party.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: See, I don't love her in general. Like, no offense.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I don't know that much about her. I've seen Hit
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: and Miss, and I'm always like, eh, whatever. I kind
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: of get what she's putting out there as a comic
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: and I'm like, yeah, she's fine, whatever. But I don't
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: seek her out normally. I will say like the most
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: interesting thing was the her and the parents scene, which
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: is probably the one you would cut out. But I
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: was like, that's the most interesting thing that comes about
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: with her. Her just hooking up with a 20 something
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: guy is like, what is, why do we care about,
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: I don't know. But again, it's the closest thing we
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: have to character development there. It's her like coming to
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: terms with the fact that yes, she's just doing this
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: because she's horribly depressed and misses her husband. It's as
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: close as we get to character development there. I don't know.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Those were funny scenes with her. It was her with
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: the parents of like, tea? Would you like some tea?
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: I would like some tea. The dad's like, yeah, our
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: son's an idiot.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Yeah, he's an idiot. No, they're not wrong. Our kid's
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: an idiot. I don't know. There's just so many weird
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I'm surprised we crossed the line moments in this. Yeah.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: But also stuff that just only works if you're, as
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: previously mentioned, 12 year olds. So being a 12 year old,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: I'm like, she nared her butt. Like that only works
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: if you're 12. Like if you're writing this for actual teenagers,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: they're just like, what the, what, what is this plot?
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Like it only works if you're a dumb kid that
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: thinks it's funny. Cause she said, but like, And then
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: the cat- But that was a whole- It's a whole thing.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: The cat's losing consciousness. It's so dumb.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: It's such a bizarre setup and payoff. It's so dumb.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: But I'm laughing at it because I'm 12.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: I don't know which came first. If they were like, okay,
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: she neared her butt so that burns. What's the payoff?
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Or- We have a cat that has asthma that is
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: affected by certain odors. How do we get there?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: It's so ridiculous.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: What the fuck, man?
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: It's so ridiculous. And yet, once again, I'm like, oddly
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: inappropriate for a kid's movie.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: But if this is a teen movie, it's not really
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: edgy enough. It's just weird.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Well, and like you said, though, I mean, we're both
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: the sort of person to be like, okay, that's funny.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: You know, that's genuinely funny to me that the cat
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: starts having an asthma attack because some, you know, popularity
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: obsessed teenager decided to nair her butt that morning.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: I think it was an accident, you know.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Well, she did say it was an accident.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Things get carried away with. your nair and your butt.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: I don't know how they get carried away with the
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: nair and your butt.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: It burns, let me tell you.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: She said butt. That was hilarious.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: She maybe even said ass. Once again, she did say
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: my ass is burning, which surprised me.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Yeah, there's several times that I'm like, they just keep
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: pushing the PG-13 of the language. I'm like, it doesn't
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: need to be. You could get away with a lesser
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: version sometimes. And they're just like, nope, we're PG-13, damn it,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: and we're going to use it. Which, by the way,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: let's see, I saw that fact too, the important facts
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you'll learn about this movie. It received a PG-13 rating,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: marks the second film from Nickelodeon movies after, are you
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: familiar with this one? Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: No!
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: A 2008 movie, which also features a PG-13, and the
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: weird little clip I saw of it, I was like, oh,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: this does seem like they're getting into weird territory for
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: a Nickelodeon movie, so... I don't know. Maybe work that
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: in somewhere down the line.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: What was it? Angus. Angus. Angus songs and perfect. Okay.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: It came up. Well, the poster doesn't look, I mean,
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: it looks like your typical teen.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: It's tween girls, you know, and they're going to be
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: talking about inappropriate things.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: What a weird title. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: So another odd PG 13 movie from Nickelodeon. I feel
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: like maybe they've learned their lesson now. Are they still
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: putting out like Spongebob that are PG-13 rated?
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: I don't know if those are PG-13 rated.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Because those are the ones that make money. So if
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: they're smart, they just keep cranking out some Spongebob material.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Based on the young adult novels, Angus Thongs and Full
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Frontal Snogging. Weird. And It's Okay, I'm Wearing Really Big Knickers.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: So these are British is what it sounds like.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: As if snogging wasn't already, knickers in particular.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Well, that's what, yeah.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: So there's just times where the rating is weird.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: They're all over the place with these different levels of
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: what's appropriate, how kiddified is this, how not kiddified is this? Like,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: it's very strange, the tone of it all.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Because that was the other, like, I remembered that from
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: the ad, and I still, like, Chicken humping the car
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: is fucking funny. I'm sorry. It is funny. It just is.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: And I'm just like, but how do you write that
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: for your teenage movie that's, again, teenagers don't watch stuff
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: made for teenagers. No. Teenagers are already watching R-rated stuff.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: So at this point, a teenage movie is what maybe tweens,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: the uncool tweens, might watch. So this is at best
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: like your 11-year-olds are going to be watching this. So
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: a giant chicken humping a car is just weird and
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: inappropriate for somebody to be writing in a room somewhere
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: to put out for 11-year-olds to watch. It's just weird.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: It's just all weird.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: It is weird.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: I'm going to laugh every time.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: It's funny, though.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: It's funny.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Even though at a certain point I knew it was
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: going to happen, it was still funnier than what I
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: had pictured in my mind.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Chicken humping a car. Other weird, edgy, inappropriate moments.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: I'm sure there's something.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Well, I mean, there's talk of touching a boob.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: And then eventually we get there.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: I wanted to... Yeah, I was... I was troubled by that, actually.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: I mean. To a degree.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: I wasn't as it went on, but it was weird
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: that that was used as a bargaining chip.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: That's my point.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: To someone she doesn't really like, as we think, and
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: she thinks. At that point, he's just a nerd and
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: she didn't like him. So it's a weird bargaining chip.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Well, I don't want to get too much into this,
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: but at the time that we're recording this, really big
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: story going on. uh, you know, involved with some really
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: majorly inappropriate things. And it's not, it's not on the
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: same level, but there's also a lot of discussion right
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: now about teaching young men what is, and you know,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: what is and what is not okay.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: That is certainly like a bigger lesson that like society
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: has needed to learn. Sure. Sure.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Since the dawn of time of like, yeah, don't, Don't
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: teach your daughters how to defend themselves. Teach your sons
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: how to conduct themselves.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Like a grown-up and an adult that doesn't violate other people,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: specifically young women. So, yeah, that's all how it really
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: should go.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: But then.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: It's not how it goes.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: You know, we've got a movie, and granted, this movie's
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: 13 years old. I don't know, but you see a
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: young woman making an offer of something that you can tell...
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: She doesn't want to do, but she's going to.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: But she willingly threw that out there, which is weird.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: I know, I know. And then as it.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Works out, like he's going to chicken out because he's
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: a nerd. The fact that she does it, essentially, she
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: grabs his hand. So like, I don't feel bad about
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: the way it plays out because she's in charge of it,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: which is how it should be. But, and it's, it
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: is funny. Like it becomes a sweet moment because even
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: she realizes, oh wait, I'm okay with this. Like, I
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: didn't think I liked this guy, and as it turns out,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I'm like, oh.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: See, I think that's where I'm upset by it, because
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: it almost like it puts out the message of there that,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: you know, the girl's not going to want to do something,
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: but then she'll get in the middle of it, and
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: then she'll turn out liking it.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a horrible lesson to be passed on.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's what.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Again, I think I was anchoring it a little more
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: in the character, which this is the minimal amount of
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: character we get from any of these people. So I
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: like the fact that she... realize this wasn't just a nerd,
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: that it was somebody she was actually interested in. I
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: like that aspect as it turned out by the end
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: of it, which we can jump to that. But yeah,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I mean, it's definitely a questionable exchange there of like,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: when is it sending the wrong message and how in
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: charge of that message should we be, you know, taking
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: into account when you're writing stuff and feeling responsible for
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: when you're putting stuff out there.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Again, it's art, so you should be able to do
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: whatever you want, but also we should not be putting
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: the wrong messages out there because society is stupid and
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: men in particular are stupid and do stupid things all
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: the time. So, yeah, don't encourage that. I just like
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: that the nerd got the girl eventually.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: I do like that.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: And I also liked seeing his little bit of a
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: character arc where it's like, okay, he's the creepy hypersexual
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: kid then finally he's confronted with it and he's like.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Once he has the opportunity he's just like oh no
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: no so yeah I thought that was actually very fitting
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: too a lot of times.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Though I was worried about that character in general like
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: the fact that he pulled a gun on somebody that.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Was another one again now we're just jumping around everywhere
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: but that's one of those that like there's so many
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: times in this movie where I'm like wait why is
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: this okay Why does, I mean, if you want to have,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: at this point, you can't even walk around with a
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: toy gun that looks like a real gun because you
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: will get shot. But in particular, this was an actual
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: firearm and it was loaded. Why is it okay for
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: this movie to feature a child wandering around with a
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: loaded gun, even if it was an accident? We're going
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: to pretend like he didn't know it was loaded, but
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: they don't even address that ever. It's just like, oops.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: My firearm went off. Oh, well, move on with the plot.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I'm like, well, okay. And nobody else is concerned about
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: a big open area full of people that you just
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: fired a gun? Like, in the world we live in,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: and in the world of 2012, that was an issue.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: And, I mean, yes, he shot a piece of chicken
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: instead of another person. But in reality, that could have
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: gone horribly sideways.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: That was by random chance. It could have just as
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: easily taken that dude's head off. So whether he meant
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: to do it or not.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: Or any number of bystanders. And then on top of that,
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: everybody's making fun of the kid who got shot at
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: for crying. But he just got shot at. Yeah.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Yeah. Which, once again, let's make fun of him. Again,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: this is when it reverts even back to, like, eight-year-old. Like,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: he's crying.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: What a loser.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: And I was just like, well, there's way bigger things
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: going on right now than to make fun of him
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: for crying. Like, if you shoot at.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Me with a musket... And then, later, somebody congratulates the
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: kid for shooting.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: Again, as you do. Anytime you put the bully down,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: you know, the other nerds get excited. So, there are...
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Beats that make sense in a normal high school movie,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: but then I'm like, well, this is not a normal
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: high school movie. You just shot at a dude with
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: a musket. That's just weird.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Weird.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: It's just weird.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: Why did your parents even let you out of the
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: house once?
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: That why do you have a working musket like if
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: you get one for your costume at the spirit you
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: know it's it's plastic and at this point it has
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: a big orange cap on the end of it whether
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: it looks like a musket or not because cops will
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: shoot you they do not care at this point yeah
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: they don't care what it looks like. You don't even
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: have to be holding a gun. Like you don't mess
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: around with any of that behavior now. So yeah, this again,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: if this were made in like the nineties, I could
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: see that not being an issue. Right. Right. But the
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: fact that it's made when it was, I was like, no,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: this was definitely a concern of everyone involved at this
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: point in time. Why is this movie coming off? Like
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: it's not like, That's the weird part is when this
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: was made, it still should have been a huge red
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: flag for the people writing it. The characters in the
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: middle of the scene, like everything should have been different.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: That whole scene is full of major crimes. I mean,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: you've got your attempted murder. I don't know what the
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: laws are as far as age and a person owning
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: a firearm, but there's that. There's reckless driving. There's fleeing
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: the scene of an accident. There's a lot of that
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: going on. There's probably at least several, well, throughout the
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: whole movie, there's several incidents of endangering a minor.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Certainly.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: I mean....
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: And just the bully dorks. I'm like, how old are they? Again,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: they look like they're in their mid-twenties. I guess we're
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: pretending like they're seniors or whatever, but they still look
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: like they're going to beat up a minor, so that's
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: also a crime.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Yeah. It's all really weird.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: I don't want to give the impression that I did
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: not enjoy this movie.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: There's so much that I'm perplexed by in it. That
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: was my takeaway in particular this time. Like I still
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: had my fun viewing of it, but there were just
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: so many times I'm like, but, but like every time,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: every scene would end and I'd be like, but wait
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: a minute. Like, yeah. There's just so many moments when
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I'm just like, why?
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: What?
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Why is it okay? Like we're almost at that same
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: area when the kid goes wandering in there and I'm like,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: how did he get a bucket of chicken? The kid
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: doesn't have any money.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: He doesn't have any money and he doesn't talk to anybody.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but he just comes out toting a bucket of chicken.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: I was like, does everybody just like him because he's cool?
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Because he is.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: He is cool.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I mean, that's how he got his slushie.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: I mean, Ricky Lindholm really thought he was cool.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: There's another extra point. super special guest star that i'm
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: like i liked her character so i'm like that's one
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: of those i'm like i don't want to take her
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: out of it but at the same time we don't
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: really spend enough time with her that we get anything
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: out of it other than look it's ricky lindholm like.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Yeah but i wish she would think i was cool.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Enough to hang out with just to hang out with
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: and especially.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: There's contributing to the delinquency of a minor right there
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: because she took him into a nightclub well.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Especially if she's wearing her galaxy scout costume I do
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: like the universe that we've introduced Galaxy Scout and the
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: comic books thereof. So I'm hoping that, you know, picks
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: up and becomes its own offshoot thing.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Let's hope so.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I'd watch that movie. I'm sure. I mean, in the
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: era of the Netflix movies that are coming out, I
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: don't see how Galaxy Scout is any different. As long
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: as she eats like ramen noodles, like she'll be a
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: huge success. Like this will all work. Just. Before that,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: we're also them rolling down the street, blasting some Groban.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: That's when you know you're cool. I like that one
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: of the notes on that was like, well, actually, that
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: song was a really big hit. Yeah, with moms, not
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: high school kids. Like, come on, man. Don't pretend like
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: that would have been a factor that any kid would
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: have taken in. Over the years, I've gotten to the
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: point now that I think Groban is funny because he
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: does not take himself seriously at all. At the time,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: I still would have thought, what a nerd. And did
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: when I first saw him as the performer and his
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: type of music seemed very serious. And then I finally
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: saw him on TV shows and I'm like, oh, this
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: guy doesn't take himself seriously at all. Like this guy
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: is first one to do something to make him look
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: like a dork.
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: Which makes him cool. So over the years, I've been like, oh, no,
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Josh Groban. I like that guy. Don't really listen to
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: his music, but I like him.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: As a person. I mean, yeah, could barely tell you anything.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: He seems talented.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: Seems like he's very musically gifted, but not what I'm
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: looking for usually. But as a person, seems really cool
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: and does not take himself seriously. So that's bonus points
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: for him. We already discussed him luring the kid into
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: his car, which he definitely, like, why? Even in the
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: moment watching the movie, I'm like, why does this seem
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: like a good idea?
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: Good idea, yeah.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Like, I do understand you need your wingman, but, like,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: the fact that you're going with an eight-year-old is not concerning,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: even as you become aware of it in the moment.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: You're still like, but I'm still gonna do it.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: Well, and it's for a dumb plan, because how are
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: you going to TP a person's apartment?
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: That's connected to an apartment building.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: He didn't really think the plan through, as we see,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: as he's throwing toilet paper up into the air and
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: it falls right back down.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: And that would have been the perfect excuse to use
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Albert to have him climb up the ladder and TP
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: what turned out to be the wrong apartment that he
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: eventually set on fire, which is.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Of a sumo wrestler. Which... For some reason. Again, weird
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: moment for no reason, never explained. we don't really, he
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: doesn't have a costume, but like, dude looks like a
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: sumo wrestler.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: Just a towel.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: He's just wearing a towel. And crushes him. Yeah. Weird
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: moments throughout this movie. Yeah. That I, that are never explained.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: And that's kind of how.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: And we don't even, and the girl that he's going after,
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: we get maybe 45 seconds of screen time with.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: Yeah. You keep thinking maybe she's going to come into play,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: which she does show up again later, but then not
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: really to any.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: We get more of her possibly friend.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: She is eventually friends with Ricky Lindholm. So they're part
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: of the same little friend group.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: Who it heavily implies that ends up dating Fuzzy by
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: the end of the movie. Which, good for Fuzzy!
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: We're like, yes, once again, we want the nerd to
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: get the girl. Good for you. Weird. So many weird
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: moments in this movie.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: I think that... Ricky Lindholm has the line that makes
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: the most sense out of the entire movie because he's like, Hey, yeah,
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: maybe me, you and Spider-Man can hang out. And she's like,
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: maybe it's maybe just me and you hang out.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: I do like earlier when she's like, she's so like,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: everything is so normal with her and this kid though. Like,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I know that dude. We partied with him.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: It was just like, never seemed to register that he's
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: an eight year old. He's just cool. She just likes
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: hanging out with him. He's cool. He's a good dancer
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: as we saw. Yeah.
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: Yeah that's true.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: We we skipped over the rap portion of this oh
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: her rapping her rapping and then the def jam of
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: it all that she's by the end like again like
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: it almost seems like it needs to be more of
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: the plot yeah but it's not and so by the
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: end you're like well i i get it it comes
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: back into play by the end but again, is just minimal. Like,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: the jacket disappears for the middle portion of the movie,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: and then she's wearing it again by the end, and
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: you're like, okay, yeah, that's right. But then we also
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: get her rapping at the beginning, which, again, you're not
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: showcasing the talents of Victoria Justice here.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: No.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: The explaining rap for nerds. So, yeah, these are weird choices, but...
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: I do like, I mean, no surprise that we get
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: sexy kitty from Jane, but like, I do like the
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: use of her going as Dorothy with the dark side
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: of the moon bag as a sidearm there. That's, that's
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: a fun little moment that again, Is a reference, but
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: I'm like, is it a reference that the kids watching
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: this even know what the hell you're talking about?
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, because that was by 2012 or 13, that was
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: an old reference.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: And it was only for like college kids at the
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: time originally. So now they're like in their 30s. So like,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: who is this for? Which again is maybe the theme
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: of this entire movie. Who is this for? So that
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: was another moment. I was like, okay, I like the reference.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: I like it as an obscure reason that this is
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: my costume, and that's the dumb reason, if it went
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: that far. But again, she just mentions it for a
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: second and has the bag, and then that's it. They
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: don't do anything with it.
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: Yeah, there's absolutely no payoff to that whatsoever.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: I do like the ruby chucks, though.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that was pretty sweet.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: That was a good touch. I like that. I would
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: wear those.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: Those are pretty awesome. But yeah, Dorothy. i'm really impressed
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: with you and your non-sexualizing halloween good pickup line dude
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: way to go you're smooth yeah a lot of ruth
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: bader ginsburg talk in this movie yeah yeah the other
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: half of the three kids as they tp the cop
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: car yeah Cause again, barely making connections in the screenplay
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: of like the girl that he had a problem with
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: was the daughter of the cop that we only meet
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: in that scene right there for the first time and
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: the last time. So like they barely make these connections sometimes,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: but I'm like, they're trying, like they're really working in
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: all these, like weaving the plot together. As the night
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: goes on, it's freaking after hours or something. I don't know.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: They just barely brush on some of these things along
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: the way. I guess you guys are putting effort in,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: but barely tying it together. Again, it's a funny moment
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: because I like those three kids.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: This is one of those movies you see every now
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: and then where you start to wonder, is this like
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: two or three different movies that they just mashed together.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: But I don't, I think it was written by one person.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: The director did other things, but I think this was
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: like his big one-off feature directing job. So like, I
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: don't know, like it's even weirder if this is like,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: this is my focused, this is my thing, man. Like
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I'm going to get this movie made. This is my
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: dream project. Like this, this movie.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Okay, dude. So back to Johnny. At that point, we
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: have a lot of Johnny in this movie.
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: Johnny Knoxville.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Who is uncredited. Johnny Knoxville.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know he was uncredited.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: For the last half of the movie, he's in it
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: a lot.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: He's in it a lot.
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: Not doing much, just being an asshole, but like he's
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: in the movie a lot to not be credited for
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: some reason. But yeah, there's like, once again, what a
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: weird character. Like the first thing we see him do
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: is take candy from a child. Yeah. Well, that puts
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: it all in perspective, doesn't it? Of like, this is
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: the kind of asshole we're dealing with. He steals a
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: kid's candy.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: Steals a kid's candy and then kidnaps the child.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: Well, sure. That's also, and maybe that's the best line
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: of our Galaxy Scout. It's not like I'm going to
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: hang out with a lame eight-year-old.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: Like, well, yeah. That may be the best line in
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: the movie.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: Fair enough.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: It's not like I'm going to hang out with a
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: lame eight-year-old. But, yeah, we get, like, once again, like,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: the level of maturity of this film that, like... Because
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: there's other stuff. Like, sometimes, like, if it gets to, like,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: a big, ridiculous grand finale, but.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Dog poop and fireworks is, like, kind of the big...
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: In a movie where we already had actual firearms in use,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: but that wasn't the big finality. Right. Dog poops and
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: fireworks is, like, our big grand finale of, like, prankdom is.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, silly. This is a silly movie. Oh, we haven't
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: even talked about the cool guy. Cool guy in the movie.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: Who I think we see twice.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: We see twice. Which is funny because I think, again,
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: real world of it all, I think that's Jane Levy's
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: baby daddy. Now, I think maybe they just started dating
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: at this point. Because I had to look it up.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: I was like, were they.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: Like, why is this? Was this the reason? But I
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: think it was right around this time. Because she'd gotten
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: out of some other relationship earlier. I had to Google
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: all this. And then, like, she met him around that time.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: But then later, they've been together for years. They've had
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: a kid together. And I think are still together. So,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: when she was dreamily wanting to get with the cool guy,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: she did. As it turns out. Didn't get with the nerd.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: She got with the cool guy in the real world.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: I will say... This is something that I see in
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: a lot of teen movies that always irritates me. And
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: it's when the cool guy, the cool popular guy, is
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: all of a sudden, without warning, in a crazy rockin' band.
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: Because that is not how that works. It is never
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: the popular kids that are in the bands. They may
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: become popular because they're in a band. But the cool
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: kids with like the trust funds and that sort of stuff,
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: they're the ones that are beating up the kids that
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: are in the band.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a little more like 80s comedies. The trust
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: fund kids that are beating up the nerds and the
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: nerds are the ones in the bands usually. I will
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: say this was one I was going to get your
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: take on as being exposed to the rock world. Mm-hmm.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Many a time have I seen a dude, be it
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: cool rock star guy or super lame guy in a band,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: try to use I Wrote a Song for You as
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: the in. I can't remember if I've referenced this before,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: but there was a band, this was many, many years ago,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: some local band that at this point, I don't even
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: remember their name, but they had an, I don't even
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: know if it was a full, maybe it was a
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: full album, but it wasn't like even 10. I think
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: it was like eight tracks on it. Two of them
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: were girls' names. I was like, of your eight songs,
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: two of these were, oh, I'm going to make this happen.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: If I write a song for Jenny, she's going to
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: have to hook up with me. I mean, that's the
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: thinking of this dumb high school kid, which this was
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: a dumb high school kid back when this story was
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: a thing. So this was many years ago. And I
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: think I knew a friend of this band. And I
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: went and saw them and yeah, they were selling their
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: album and two of the songs on the album were
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: girls' names. And I was like, that is the only
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: reason for that. I'm going to use this song to
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: try to make this girl get with me. So, in
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: your experience, you kind of see this happen a lot
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: with dorks in bands.
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: Sure. I mean, there's lots of songs named after girls.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. That's the thing. I mean, most songs are written
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: about relationship stuff, good, bad, or otherwise. So that doesn't
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: surprise me. It's the ham-fisted, I'm going to write this
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: song for you, even less creative, going to name it
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: after you of it all that's so, like, dork. Just like, dude,
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: get a little style for God's sake. Work it into
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: your song. It can be about that. But, like, you
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: don't have to, like, title drop it. This one's for you, Ginny. Like, yeah,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: we know. It's the title of the song, Genius.
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: I will say, and I'm proud to say this, I
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: have not done that.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: I've certainly written stuff about, again, about the scenario, the situation.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Usually it's the other end of it, of the outcome,
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: the hopelessness of life.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: Post-situation. Certainly that I understand. And I write songs that
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: I can't do anything with because I don't have any
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: functional musical skills. But I can write songs.
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I'm actually okay with my writing of them. I just
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: have to then get someone else to do them, which
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: is more trouble than it's worth.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: Oh, I'll make some calls. We'll have an album out
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: by next week.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: I mean, sadly now you can AI that nonsense and
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: make your own thing, but I don't want to be that.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: No.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: But I'm interested in playing with the fake synthesized instruments
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: that I could then sort of make a song out
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: of it.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: I might.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: I'm still toying with that. that's a lot of work too.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: It is. I'm busy editing this most of the time.
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: And then when I'm done, I'm like, I don't feel
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: like doing any other creative projects right now. So I'll
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: just come up with the songs and then they're stuck
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: in my head and no one else has to suffer.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: So you're welcome world. I have not unleashed most of
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: them on you, but, but yeah, so I can see
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: that being a thing, but it is certainly equally as
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: badly put together and awkward a song in this movie. So,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: It's really not well put together.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: It was such a bad song, and yet the other
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: girls were visibly jealous of her. Where I feel like,
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: had I been one of the other girls at the party,
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: I'd have been like, well, at least he's not talking
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: about me. Yeah.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: Which leads to, again, one of the better moments in
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: the movie. Well, who else wants to kiss me?
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: And the dude raises his hand. I was just like,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: that guy. That guy in the Mad Hatter outfit and
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: or the bad Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka? I'm not sure.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: I wasn't sure.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: No, I think it's the Mad Hatter Johnny Depp. I
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: was like, it's definitely that era of Johnny Depp in
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: that weird costume. Yeah. But I think it was pre-Willy Wonka,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: but he was post-Alice in Wonderland. Yeah. I think.
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: Those movies look terrible.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Clearly post-Pirates of the Caribbean. Well, obviously.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Of course that guy was dressed up as his
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: favorite character. I was like, yeah, I was tired of
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: that character before that first movie was over with. I
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: was just like, yes, it's an amazing performance. I remember
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: watching it in the theater going, wow, he is really committed. Wow,
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: is this still going on? By the end of it,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: I was just like, really?
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: Long, long movie.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: All right, I get it. I get it. And then
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: they kept making them. And they're still potentially going to
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: make another one. I was like, Johnny Depp, please stop.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: I know I got. two into the series.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: I don't remember if I got the third one. I
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: think we saw the second one together.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: We might have.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: I think we went to the theater, because that's as far,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I don't think I made it to three. And I've heard, again,
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: I'm actually in the near future going to be talking
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: about a Gore Verbinski movie, so like the Gore Verbinski
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: of it all, I kind of want to revisit. I've
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: heard people that stand by two and three as like
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: good movies because of him. Yeah. But I just so
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: don't want I just remember not being impressed with the
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: second one. Like at least the first one works as
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: its own thing. It tells a piratey story. The characters
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: are all new and interesting at that point. By the
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: second one, I was like, all right, I get where
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: we're going here. But yeah, I, I don't think I
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: made myself watch the third one, but I feel like
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: I remember us at the theater watching that second movie.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: And we were all like, really? That's where it's ending.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: All right. We don't have to come back for the
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: third one.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: Do we? So, I think that's exactly what multiple people
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: in our party said.
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: Pretty sure.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: Pretty sure.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: I do feel like I said, that's where we're ending it.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: Whatever. If you insist.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, at least the credits are rolling. Good enough.
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: Let's get out of here. But again, Gore Vivensky. Good director.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Interesting director. I like what he does most of the time,
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: so I will return to that in a near episode,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: so come back for that. So that guy dressed as
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Captain Sparrow didn't surprise me, actually, because he seems like
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: a douche. Much like, not so much the captain in
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: the movies. He's just a drunk. But in the real world,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Johnny always comes off as that kind of a douche.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: He kind of does.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: Yeah. No offense. I don't know him personally.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: I'm a fan of most of his work.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: His early work, I'm very impressed with. As time's gone on,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: there are times when I do not want to watch
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: movies because of his performances. One in particular I'm thinking
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: of right now. Actually, several now that I'm rolling through
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: many of his later performances. I'm like, no, no, please stop.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: Please stop doing this. Like, you're not... Actually, there's another one. He's...
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen this. I've certainly heard
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: it on other people talking about... They're doing another Ebenezer
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Scrooge story. And it's him in bad Ebenezer Scrooge makeup.
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: Didn't he already do that once before?
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: No, that was the Jim Carrey... As the CG version.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: That must be what I'm thinking.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: That's probably what you're thinking of because that was a
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: silly over the top Ebenezer Scrooge. So this is going
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: to be a live action version, but he's in a
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: whole bunch of bad makeup like he likes to do.
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: And he's going to do a very exaggerated Johnny Depp
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: performance as Ebenezer Scrooge. I don't.
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: You want it to get even weirder?
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: Not really, but.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Probably don't. Let me double check. So the not wanting
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: to watch a Johnny Depp movie doesn't surprise me. The
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: part that surprises me, would you like to know who
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: the director of this Ebenezer movie is?
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: I would like to know.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: Ty West. The man who brought us... X, Pearl, Maxine.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: That explains why when I saw your phone, it had
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: the thumbnail for X.
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the house of the devil. You're next. He
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: is like a master of making new era horror movies,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: and he's making an Ebenezer Scrooge movie with Johnny Depp.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: What the hell is going on? That's just a sidebar
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: in the middle of this episode with questions about horror movies.
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: What the hell is Ty West thinking?
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: I mean, Bob Gell did bring us a fantastic Christmas
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: movie after making Porky's.
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: It did not have Johnny Depp in it. I know,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: I know. And he somehow would have ruined it. Like,
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: he would have shown up in a lot of bad
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: makeup trying to be the old man or something.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: I would have started humping the leg lamp or something stupid.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: And then I would be like, I hate this movie. Like,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: so let's be thankful that Johnny Depp is not in
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: a Christmas story. Yeah.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: Did I say Bob Gale? I meant, that's not who
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: directed Porky's, is it?
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: Bob, Bob Clark, Clark, Bob Gale.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: Isn't that, that's, that's Hogan's here. Oh, okay.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: No, that's, who was, who was Hogan? Yeah. Bob Crane.
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: Bob Crane. Man, I am all over the place today.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Bob Crane is Hogan's heroes and or a really weird
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: sexual deviant.
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: But I think everyone was willing. I think he was
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: just into weird shit.
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: He was, yeah.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: I watched Autofocus. He's into weird shit.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: Well, I'm turning into my mom as far as remembering
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: the names of celebrities.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: You know, along with that guy in the thing. You're like, wait, what?
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: What are we talking about?
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: You know, when Bronson Pinchot was James Bond.
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Wait, are you talking about Charles Bronson? Because that's also
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: not right. You're so wrong right now. So yeah, I
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: don't know. Once again, why is it a good idea
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: to hold an eight-year-old hostage at this point? Let alone
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: for ransom. Then he wants cash for him.
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: Well, he also kept calling him a terrorist. So he
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: already knows he's dangerous.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Well, he is.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: He is very dangerous.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: The kid's vicious. Don't mess with him.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: And I remember at the beginning of the movie, him
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: having a lot more fireworks... So you'd think he'd be
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: able to blow his way out of the house.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: But maybe they ended because by the end, Fuzzy had
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: a bunch. So did he leave some like in his car?
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: But those were mostly like smoke bombs. Sometimes there were
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: smoke bombs that would also explode.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: Like, I don't know.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: They weren't real descriptive of what type of fireworks these were.
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: Everyone did whatever they needed it to in that scene
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: at that moment.
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: I don't know why we're still trying to figure these
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: things out at this point, actually.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: I mean, just assume that the movie is genius and
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: above our understanding.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: That is a very likely scenario.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: We'll never figure it out because, once again, I don't
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: understand why it seems like a good idea. Once again,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: the inappropriateness of this movie. your movie that's been built
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: around inappropriate things happening around this eight year old. Then
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: the finale of it is I'm going to strip down
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: in front of this eight year old and run away. Yeah.
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: I was like, yes, I guess it's nice that you're
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: sacrificing yourself as a reason for them. Cause otherwise I
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: guess you could just run and, Maybe they would chase you,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: but I suppose if you're unclothed, the cops are supposed
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: to go after.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: You, so. They should. They really should. They probably should.
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: Although on Halloween, they probably do give you a little
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: bit of leeway on that.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: They'd be like, ah, another drunken idiot on Halloween. I
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: don't feel like going after him.
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: And then he goes back to work. Again. Which makes
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: me wonder if he was just, if that's still the
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: same shift, or.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I mean, it's got to be close. I would assume
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: at least leading towards the next day because girl's still
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: in her scout uniform.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: True.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: So they're coming from the party before we get the
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: morning the next day by the end. So I was like, yeah,
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: this has got to be at some point in the
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: same night, which I had to go back and check
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: because I was also like, did he just go off
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: and leave work like unattended? But there was the other guy.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: There was the one dude.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: I did. Yeah, I did. I was like, I had
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: to go back and double check. So sadly, I went
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: back to double check whether or not there was someone
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: else working because I was like, did he close up
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: the store? I feel like it was still open when
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: he ran out holding toilet paper. So I was like,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: was there someone else behind the counter? So I guess
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: that other dude quit mopping and went and stood behind
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: the counter at Red Comics, which is what you seem
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: to do while you're at work. But. But yeah, I
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: thought it was an odd choice for this once again
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: to expose this poor child to some weird naked dude
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: in the middle of the street. I was like, this
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: movie does a lot of inappropriate things specifically around this
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: poor small child. Yeah.
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: Well, he seems to be the least affected by everything
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: in this movie. True.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: He does seem to sort of roll with it. I mean,
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: he is not a lame eight-year-old, so he's cool and
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: he just keeps on keeping on.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: He has mastered the art of the prank phone call, though.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: God. We jumped to that. We're jumping over the serious
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: part of this movie. Because I still got a little,
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: got a little verklempt as we get there. And I realized, oh,
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: they went to go see Dad on Halloween. Yeah. That's
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: kind of sad. If this were a real movie, I'd
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: be like legit sad right now. It's ridiculous. So I'm like,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: I just have to like know that I'm a sap,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: that it still kind of worked on me for a minute. Sure, yeah.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: When he, you know, realizes, you know, we get the
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: moment where he actually says something and I'm like, all right,
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: this is almost a heartfelt moment in a ridiculous movie.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: So there you go. Ridiculous movie.
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: And then prank phone calls, which again. Again, doesn't even
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: fit the entire rest of this movie.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: No, I know. I think they just wanted to, they
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: wanted to cram in.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: Cause this kid's funny.
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: This kid being funny.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Let's let this kid be funny. Call people while he's
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: on the toilet again. Why do we need more footage
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: of him on the toilet? I don't know.
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: It's inappropriate.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: What do we do with this movie?
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: I would like a peanut butter cup pancakes though. That, that,
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: It does sound enjoyable.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: I mean, we have peanut butter pumpkins right there. That's true.
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: So if you have the fixings for pancakes, we can
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: round out this episode.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: I don't, actually.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Damn it.
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: I know, I'm the worst.
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: Well, I do. Yeah, I think the leftovers for Halloween
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: breakfast is a good idea. Yeah. It was after his
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: mom kicks his ass. It was kind of funny. She's like,
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: I just, I don't have patience for you, child. Get
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: out of my way. And then she puts him in
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: some sort of wrestling mood. Second time someone's been pinned
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: that evening. Thank goodness she saved the jacket, so we
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: got that going for her.
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: The Def Jam of it all.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: Which, I mean, that jacket was pretty sweet.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I mean, even if it didn't have his name, like,
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: embroidered in it, it's a pretty cool jacket. Probably would
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: have been falling apart by that time, realistically. Yeah. If
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: she were wearing it every day, like, sure, all the
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: lettering would have fallen off, but, you know, hey, whatever.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: Not all of us get our name in the liner notes.
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: That is true. And I meant to check that album
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: to see if that name is in there, but.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Maybe this is a true story.
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: Part of me wondered.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: This all really happened, you know? That guy's dead now.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: I hope you're happy. Just to make this movie, they
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: had to kill him.
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: Sometimes you gotta do that, you know?
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: This is the sacrifice you make for true art like
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: this movie.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: You can't make a movie omelet without cracking a few
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: movie eggs. I mean....
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we skipped over the fact that they hooked up, right?
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: I mean, we definitely had a morning after moment. At best,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: I guess you could pretend like they just made out hardcore.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: But that certainly in any other teen movie is the
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: morning after they hooked up scene.
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: You had your coyote ugly moment where she wakes up
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: and is like, oh my God. And then she tackles him.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: So if they... Didn't hook up the night before. They
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: definitely did the next morning.
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: It seemed like there was plenty going on between those two, which, again,
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: as yay dorks, you realize that you're made for each
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: other and just get it on. I'm all for that. But, again,
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: in this tween-oriented movie is a very weird moment of,
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: all right, so just go do it, kids.
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: As long as you like the person and all parties
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: are willing, it's cool, kids. Go get laid.
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: Well, you know.
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: This didn't occur to me until just now, but throughout
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: all the ridiculousness and what the hell's going on in
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: this movie, they never showed definitively whether or not the
- 1:50:40Speaker 2: kids were drinking. I mean, there's no.
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: There's definitely drinking at the other party. I don't know
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: about the teen part.
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: At the teen part, right.
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: The basement party, they were all drinking.
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: Well, sure.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, out in the little center square there, everybody
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: was just sort of hanging out. So I don't know
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: if there was teen drinking there.
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: But at the popular kids party, I mean, were they drinking?
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: Seems like there would have been.
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: There would have been.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: In a different teen movie.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: In every other teen movie.
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: This being the weird Nickelodeon of it movie it is,
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: I don't know that we saw that really.
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: Because that's where it makes zero sense to... As to
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: why they were crashed out on the couch and she
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: wakes up and has that moment like, oh, what happened?
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: What happened?
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: Because in the rundown here, it also mentions drug use.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of what other, maybe not the kids,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: but I'm trying to think what other drug use we had.
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Because it lists that as being one of the problematic
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: areas in this. And I will give you the language
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: is inappropriate many times. The attitude in general of like
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: nearing my butt and touching a boob and waking up
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: with this dude and like there's a lot of potential
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: things going on that are a little more sexual activity
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: than most places would want to in a tweeny kind
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: of a movie.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Well, the chicken raping car or the car raping chicken.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: That's inappropriate and yet sells the movie. i did hear
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: they because they made up that restaurant it was like
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: a closed place that they turned into that sure and
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: they said in that little like town that they took
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: over there people were going up trying to apply for
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: a job because it looked like a chicken place so
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: they obviously did a pretty good job making it look
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: like a chicken place.
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: I want to go to captain chicken i'd go there.
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: I did like these songs anytime that there's a New
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: version of a Halloween song. There were several specifically Halloween themed,
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: which I always like. I'm a fan of old school.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: I'm a monster bop kind of a dork.
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: That is a term, if you're not familiar with it.
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: And yeah, it's its own post-Monster Mash, every person in
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: the world that could put out a poppy kind of
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: an album that was horror themed did. Yeah. And if
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: you go digging, there's a lot happening. a lot so
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: that's its own of that sort of late 50s all
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: the way through the 60s era but yeah anybody who
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: like modern era which I guess is dated now but
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: still these dorky bands like put together a couple of
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: specifically for the movie but one of them changed it
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: the one at the end of like making out in
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: the graveyard which I like this version in there it's
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: massively inappropriate the original way that it's written oh Let's
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: ruin this song for everyone. So....
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: What was the name of this song again?
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: Make Out in the Graveyard.
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: Oh, it is Make Out. Okay.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: Is how it's billed now, but it used to be
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: Sex in the Graveyard.
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: Huh.
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: And let's see. It says, it was edited to be
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: less vulgar. The very first line of the song is,
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: I want to jump your bones, was changed to, let's
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: forget tricks or treats. The first line of the second verse,
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: I want to hump while the pumpkins watch.
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: So flirt replaced pump.
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: Oh, okay. I want to flirt while the pumpkins watch.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: Which is, I don't know.
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: I mean, I want to hump while the pumpkins watch.
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: It's a party.
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: Come on.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: That's a party.
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: So that's, that's the movie. I don't know what to
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: do with it. We didn't know what to do with
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: it when we started. So we have come full circle
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: and I, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: It's inappropriate.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: It's something.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: It's, it's, it's a movie and it's around Halloween.
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: It's, Mostly entertaining. It had some what I thought were
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: genuinely funny parts.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: Genuinely funny stuff along the way. Characters that I liked
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: for the most part.
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: For the most part.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: There's a few weird ones that I'm like, why are
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: they in this movie? And then other ones that I'm like,
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: I need a whole real movie built around this character.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: And a lot of storylines.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: And a lot of storylines, some of which pan out,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: some of which you don't ever see again. It's weird
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: how unfocused it can be along the way, but then
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: it still sort of bothers to tie things together by
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: the end. So like it's still competent enough. It totally
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: works as a movie, but in the end it still
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: feels a little scattered and you're like, I didn't feel
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: overly connected to a ton of people along the way.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: So it's, it's a weird movie. but not necessarily for kids.
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: So what are we doing?
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what age.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: This is for. Like I said, it's too kiddified for
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: actual even teenagers for the most part. But at the
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: same time, it's inappropriate along the way for little kids.
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: So I don't know who this is for. I guess
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: you and I.
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: Well, if you'd showed it to me as a teenager,
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: I would have hated it. Uh, probably about my mid
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: to late twenties, I would have tolerated it. And then
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: after 35, I would have loved it.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Come back around to the weirdness of what the hell.
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: Is this movie? And I am well past 35. Yeah.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: Yeah. It's all weird.
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: It's all weird.
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: You know, somebody would have to have a very specific, um, Like,
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: they'd have to request a very specific type of movie
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: for me to recommend this to them.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: Again, this... I don't even know if we were using
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: the term tween when this was made. I think so. But, like,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: it became a thing around that time. And I was like,
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: this is almost... Because, like I said, teenagers are way
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: too old for it. Little kids... want things that are
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: edgy in their mind that are a little inappropriate where
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: this is. So realistically, like that's kind of, I still
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: feel like the parents are going to have problems with
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: the things that are going on, but I feel like
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: kids that are right at that age that want something
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: a little, a little more than animated cartoons that are
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: made for little kids, but aren't ready for actual hardcore
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: horror yet, which I feel like most kids actually are.
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: They just jump right to that anyway. But if you
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: want a weird year that you haven't fully graduated up
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: to just watching Halloween yet, this might work.
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: I don't know. It works for weird people that want
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: to watch this and be confused like us. So I
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: guess that's who it's for.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: I mean, now I feel like at the time, I
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: don't know who it was for and neither did film goers.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: And it was just not overly well received because nobody
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: knew what to do with it. So, yeah. Yeah. I
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sitting here trying to think what, even
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: if somebody said to me, do you have a movie
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: where Chelsea Handler dresses like Britney Spears? Even then, I
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: don't think I would think of this movie to recommend it.
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: No, again, I wouldn't go looking for the Chelsea of
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: recommending it. Again, my go-to is Jane, but even she
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: has very little to do.
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: In this movie.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: She is the best part of this movie and still
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: has very little to do. I guess other than that,
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: the brother. Yeah. You haven't seen him in much else.
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: If you haven't seen Bad Grandpa, you probably don't remember
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: him for anything else.
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: Maybe if somebody said, do you have a one-armed Spider-Man movie?
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: Then I might.
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: Starting to narrow things down.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: Do you have a one-armed Spider-Man movie that Johnny Depp
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: makes an awkward appearance in?
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: So you've got.
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: Not Johnny Depp.
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: I mean, kind of.
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: Well, that's true.
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: Jack Sparrow's there. So you've got Marvel zombies and this movie,
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: and that's pretty much it.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: That's true. I didn't think about it like that.
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: All right. Well, normally we will, you know, if you're
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: unfamiliar with this, we... We may have found new people
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: or maybe people have not crossed over from the old
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: dream yet. We're on a new feed now, so we're
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: not sure how the transition is going yet. We're hoping
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: new people have found us. So if so, welcome. And yes,
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: this is pretty much how it always goes. But we
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: usually roll a die to figure out what our horror
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: items are. And if you're one of these special Patreon people,
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: you get to pick what those movies are on that
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: list of 20. So plug for that. But we'll get
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: to that later next year. In the meantime, we're just
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: picking weird, silly movies that don't exactly fit the bill
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: because Nora's out due to baby. So in the meantime,
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: we're picking other... I mean.
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: Her super cute infant son.
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: We made her pay because we saved the nightmare that's
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: going to be thrown at her next Christmas. Yeah. I
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: don't know about Thanksgiving, but Christmas, she still has a
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: horror show waiting for her.
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: You know, I think the fact that we're putting that
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: off for a year makes it worse on all of us.
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: Yeah, on all of us. But she's not getting out
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: of it. We still suspect maybe that's why the baby
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: came into play was so she could escape, but her
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: plan did not work.
- 2:00:05Speaker 2: She's smart thinking on her part, but not smart enough.
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: Not when you're dealing with a couple of masterminds.
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: We're jerks. We'll wait until next year. We'll hold off
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: just to make you suffer with us. Yep. We'll get
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: back to that next year.
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: If you look up petty in the dictionary, our pictures
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: are right next to it.
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: But before we get to whatever nightmare we have this
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: year for Christmas, instead we're doing Thanksgiving next month and
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: we are going to go with Freebirds, which is a
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: weird animated movie that I don't know, once again, is
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: it for children? I don't know.
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: It's animated.
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: It's animated. It's got voices of recognizable people doing our
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: voice work. It's produced by somebody not really known for
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: kids stuff. So I don't know. I've been curious about
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: this since it came out in 2013. And yeah, we're
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: going to figure out what the hell is going on
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: with that movie next month. So plan accordingly. Get yourself
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: a copy of Freebirds between now and next month.
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a fun movie. I'm
- 2:01:06Speaker 2: looking forward to it.
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: I think it should be interesting. Once I found out
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: what the plot was, I thought it was just kind
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: of a chicken run, birds trying to not get eaten.
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: But once I found out there's a time travel aspect involved,
- 2:01:19Speaker 1: I was like, now I kind of want to watch
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: this for legit purposes just to figure out what's going
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: on in this movie. So, yeah, there you go. That's
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: what we'll be doing next time around.
- 2:01:30Speaker 2: A lot of people in this movie.
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:01:32Speaker 2: Some I've heard of, some I have not.
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: So it'll be interesting next month as well. So fair
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: warning for the next not horror club meeting. This was
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: the weird one off. I figured Halloween, we had to
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: at least do something Halloween themed. Not quite horror, but
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: it was Halloween themed. So we'll be back to our
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: more traditional horror fair post next year anyway. So probably.
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 2:01:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see.
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: Anything else to pass along these spooky Halloween times?
- 2:02:04Speaker 2: Again, congratulations to Pierce and Nora and whatever their unnamed.
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: Spawn is.
- 2:02:13Speaker 2: Pierce Jr. Yeah, Pierce Jr.
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: Until we hear it differently.
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: But yeah, that's it. That's all I got.
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Go find something cool to do. Try not to
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: shoot anyone. Please don't strip down in front of eight-year-olds
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: or any other random children. The rest of the shenanigans
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: are up to you. If you want to have a
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: giant chicken hump your car, hey, that is you.
- 2:02:34Speaker 2: And who doesn't?
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: As long as you're into it and your car's into
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: it and the chicken's into it.
- 2:02:38Speaker 2: And your lesbian moms are cool with it.
- 2:02:40Speaker 1: All parties are willing. It's all good. Just enjoy yourself
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: because it's a fun sight to see. I'll give you that.
- 2:02:47Speaker 2: It was actually.
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: It's entertaining. I'm just telling you. That part's funny. I
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: will never not be amused by that.
- 2:02:53Speaker 2: Somebody had to build that big humping chicken statue and.
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: They did when they made the whole restaurant. That's what
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: I'm saying. And there's a shot behind the scenes of
- 2:03:00Speaker 1: them like doing the crane so that when it falls,
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: it doesn't actually kill anyone in the process. And they
- 2:03:06Speaker 1: put a whole lot of effort into making that chicken
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: hump a car.
- 2:03:09Speaker 2: They had to go to a firm and say, we
- 2:03:13Speaker 2: know you make motorized statues. Here's what we need, please.
- 2:03:18Speaker 1: I think more entertaining is they had to go and
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: work into the insurance policies, which you have to have
- 2:03:24Speaker 1: on any feature film that this giant humping chicken isn't
- 2:03:28Speaker 1: going to kill any of the kids involved as they're
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: loitering around down there. So yeah, somewhere that's in the paperwork.
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. So yeah. Otherwise that about does it.
