If you're a serious Bowman collector, go check it out. we're on the AL West first here. We're kicking off with the AL West. underscore_underscore_: Yep. Jaba: not a ton of winners here, not to bury the bury the lead. underscore_underscore_: Yeah. Jaba: some interesting names. You you wanna kick us off with the athletics here? underscore_underscore_: sure. We got three guys, three first autos, two 17 year olds and a 24 year old. The 24 year old is Brayden Nett. Came over in that Leo trade was kind of like went from a quiet name to a big name last year. Once he got traded, the stuff's good. Then he's just honestly, he's had a rough 2026 and we kind of got a taste of his market with 26 Bowman because he was a color only guy. Another one of those guys who was color only. Now he has autos and I thought at first he was going to be like a sneaky, by the color kind of guy because of what he was Jaba: Sorry. underscore_underscore_: last year. But it just, he got promoted. He's been at three different levels. It was a, it was a short, but rough go of AA. Doing a little better now in AAA, but his prospect rank went from nine to 14. the stuff is there, but the performance isn't. So I just think. I don't know, he's in AA now, sorry. So it was high A where he had a rough go of it. No. He is. He's up to AAA. Jaba: No, he no. No, he was in trouble. underscore_underscore_: Pipeline says he's currently at AA, so maybe he got sent back down from AAA. I don't know. Not sure. But like, I don't know, when you have a .357 average against in AA, something's up with your stuff. I don't know if he's tinkering something. This is probably falls into the if you get something and the prices don't make sense hold it and hope he can regain his form. I'll Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: will Watson when we talked kind of about him with the meds. Like Jaba: about to say that. It's the West Coast Will Watson. underscore_underscore_: the stuff was good. He was highly regarded for a reason. Let's see if he can get back to it. Yohenzi Columne, probably a top what five, seven, 10 chase, depending where you want to put them on there. Couple home runs, more walks and Ks, nine bags, has the tools to stick at shortstop with a six foot two frame. Dad was a big league pitcher. Dad was actually a strainer I read. you, Jaba: Was it ha Jesus Colonna? underscore_underscore_: I think so. Dad played for a while, but dad also trained him and Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: he, yeah, it is Jesus. So he didn't have to give up like a lot of his bonus, like a lot of these international kids I read. So he kept all of it in family, which is kind of cool. Jaba: Looks a lot like it, so that's cool. underscore_underscore_: He's 17 until November. He's big. If you guys go watch his video, you will notice it is, and I put it in maybe all caps, it's a violent swing. And what I mean by that is it is some of the better bat speed I've seen of any of the kids in this release. It is, he is going to the plate looking to do damage. Power is going to be the name of his game, but also having more walks and strikeouts is always obviously encouraging, especially at this age being 17. I want to say he had a little slower start to the year, I thought. Like maybe right on the face of it. I could also be making that up. think more power is going to come. Six doubles, four triples. So got some legs underneath them swing, go watch it. You'll see what I mean. It's like huge bat speed and kind of different from the rest. And then you got Ricky Duran who bats a ball guy, no home runs in the DSL, but really good, like plate discipline. The walks to the strikeouts are good. a 429 on base percentage. Literally turns 18 in two days. Happy birthday Ricky. And he was a million dollar sign guy. Jaba: Happy birthday. underscore_underscore_: So there's tools there. It just, might not be the tools that sell baseball cards. Like a 760 OPS 17 right handed hitting shortstop. Maybe he's a repeat guy. 18 bags caught stealing 10 times. Maybe could be a repeat DSL guy. and you see that power come or he gets assigned to the complex and you start seeing that power come hopefully but right now it looks like kind of a bat to ball hit tool first type profile so column a is definitely your chase here and arguably as i look again he is probably the chase of the division maybe rosario from the rangers reading up on him watching him but it's probably between those two with column a and the lead Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I think Colomb Colomb is You know, the guy obviously for the A's, I think he'd be my pick for the division as well. you know, like you said, Duran might just be a guy that's a bit better in real life than he is for cards. But if you know, a guy like that starts moving through a system fast because they like him a lot internally, you know, even if the hitting numbers aren't crazy, if a guy starts, you know, moving up at a young age, you do tend to see, you know, massive value Growth. you know, not a guy I'm particularly chasing, but not a guy I'm against either. over to the Astros, Alejandro Nunez, just turned 22 today, actually. Happy birthday, Alejandro. underscore_underscore_: Nice. Jaba: lefty hitting second baseman, kind of prototypical 511, 190. I mean, he's in double-A. He started the year in high A, 714 OPS, fine. 30 games in double A all as a 21 year old. Definitely regressed a bit. Only one homer. Dun didn't strike out a lot. Barely walked. 593 OPS there. I think he's just kind of a light, light-hitting middle infielder, which just isn't what you want here. You know, he might turn into an okay organizational depth guy, but you know, not a guy I'm looking for. I'm fine passing. on him. Elimber Santa, another great name. He was also color only in 26 Bowman. 510-228. He was part of that combined no-hitter, I believe, earlier this year that the Astros had. Pitch fifteen innings all out of the pen, ten appearances for the Astros, one seventeen ERA, only nine K's and fifteen innings, which you don't love. you also don't love these, you know, already a reliever. He's fine. I mean the minor league stats are pretty good, all out of the pen as well. There's a few starts in there, but based on the starts to the innings, it looks like just opener duties. Even there the K's weren't huge. Just over one inning. He walks, guys. He's probably a solid reliever in the MLB, but again, just not really a guy that we're here for. you know, I'm fine passing on him even if the name's fun and you know, he's not a bad real life player. Next up, Juan Rojas, eighteen. Year old in the complex this year. the DSL last year, he was quite good. 831 OPS, more walks than strikeouts, only a couple homers, not a lot of power there. Took a little bit of a step back in the complex, 790 OPS. Still really not striking out too much. 36K's to 34 walks. Seven steals, four caught stealing. So he's not really a burner. lefty hitting shortstop, 6'1, 190. I mean, again. Just kind of a guy that's fine. You know, I'd put him above the last two just because he has age on his side. But still kind of more of just like a filler auto. You know, nothing against him. I'm not saying he's bad. It's just not one of the guys that you're chasing. Joseph Sullivan, definitely the chase for the Astros here. seventh rounder in 2024 from South Alabama. he had a lot of hype coming in at this year. I know last year he posted a 798 OPS, 17 Homers, 42 Steel, so he's got that big power speed combo. A lot of K's last year. He did walk a lot, which makes the K's a bit more palatable. This year playing in double A, he's been twenty-four for most of the season. 80 games, 718 OPS, Homer step back to 11, steals down to 20. The K's still bad, and the walk rate basically cut in half, which you don't love. I think if he had been in 26 Bowman, if you know he had come out in May as opposed to now, I think he would have been a much more exciting chase. I think he probably would have been a tier two name. with really the only downside being the K's and his age. But this year's definitely kind of put a damper on things. would bet that he plays in the MLB at some point, just with that athleticism. but again, just not really a guy where I'm I'm putting my money, I think he's gonna be fairly high priced in brakes from what I've seen. so I think he's one where if you're pulling them on the first few days you're you know kind of shuttling them out the door. last for the Astros just kind of another Run of the mill guy, Randy Arias, 17, small shortstop, 511, 155. He was fine in the DSL, 741 OPS, drew a ton of walks, 18 steals, only one homer. 47 walks to 34 Ks. We like that. just you know, with that build, it's tough to generate a lot of power. You'd like to see a little more bat to ball. only hit 226. I'm not a huge batting average guy. But you know, for a guy that size, he'd probably like it to be a bit close. Closer to 300. he's fine again, just not really for me. you know, if I'm an Astros fan, he's probably the most you can dream on in this product, at least in my opinion, underscore_underscore_: that's cool. Jaba: him. But you know, Astros are just kinda okay. You get a lot of bulk, but I just don't love any of the options. I don't know if you underscore_underscore_: Mm-hmm. Like, I like the Pirate's bulk compared to the Astro's bulk. I worked about none yesterday, so... Jaba: Yeah. yeah. Yeah. underscore_underscore_: Yeah, Arius seems to kind of be your upside guy. Joseph Sullivan, I mean, end of the day he's 24. Santa's 23. Like, not a whole lot moving the market within the hobby there for him, so... But, Jaba: Yeah. Just not. underscore_underscore_: the Angels have three autos. You have a... You have a DSL guy, you have a high school draft guy out of 2025, and you have a big leaguer in Sammy and Tara Jr. So Jaba: Very good. underscore_underscore_: you got a little bit of everything here. We'll start just with the youngest, Jason Horton, 17 years old. He was a top 10 kid signed for 2 million. Little fella, five foot nine. You think little, you think speed. He's got a 60 run tool, so he's a plus runner. 19 swipes. Speed, I put a note down, he's like a speed. first bat to ball type. Like it's going to be hard to envision a lot of impact out of his five foot nine frame. Especially when you look and see that he weighs, I mean, not that weight has a whole bearing on everything. He's five nine, 167. I don't know. It's just, I think there's going to be athleticism upside. And I feel like I'm repeating myself with him not being a huge, like hobby impact guy, but he has. There's tools there that you're to have to be patient with. The bat to ball with the strength, there could be pipeline things, there could be double digit home runs in the future. And with that being a left-handed stick, we like that left-handed thing. Short stops always seem to play 17 until February, Jaba: Yep. underscore_underscore_: which means he'll play all of next year at 18 and hit 290 this year with two home runs, two doubles, two triples had an OPS of 836. So like it's not terrible. More strike, more walks and strikeouts with 19 bags. Like It's a Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: nice, safe profile that if he does take that next jump in terms of physicality, you might be happy with what you, your ROI there. Yeah. Like Jaba: Yeah, I feel like it's a good tier three name. underscore_underscore_: who could like sneakily have his moment on whatnot when people start asking for him kind of like, I'm not, again, I'm not using this as a comp, like Mikhail Koret last year was a top 10, believe international guy. Maybe he really bought him at Jaba: She was my underscore_underscore_: release. He was cheap and then all of a sudden people are like, wait a second after you get passed and buy your host wars and Rainie L's it was like, who's next? And it feels like maybe he could be one that's kind of sneaky. And then people realize, he's actually pretty good. Sammy Natera Jr. already in the big leagues. has 26 he's left-handed. Left-handed reliever at the end of the day. Like don't really know he's made 25 appearances this year as a sub three ERA. has a rookie, he's big, he's 6'4", he's damn near close to two strikeouts in the big leagues. But are we seeing what he is as a reliever, high leverage reliever? Like, that might be what it is. Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: have done a good job with their pitching at the big league level too. Like, their staff ER raised well like a two and a half over, I don't even know the period of time, I saw it on a tweet. Sweet story there. Jaba: That was good. underscore_underscore_: And then Talon Haley is the third kid. And somebody we're familiar with in high school went out of Tennessee, Vanderbilt Commit. Probably a kid I'm going to go in on pretty good because I do like the high school prep non-first rounders. That's kind of like the Landon Harmons, the Johnny Slawinski's of last year, even Dean Livingston. I think there's a, can't even call it a market deficiency, inefficiency. Either of those, just think people are less likely to take a risk on a pitcher, but especially a high school one who has arm issues in the past. But he's been really good, like 121 strikeouts in 87 innings. The stuff plays mid nineties at a 232 average against. He's always been able to pitch. We've always, we've seen him very good as a prep and it's worth noting he has 19 now, but he also skipped the complex. Like he went straight to A-ball in his first year at Pro Ball and his Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: more than building his own. I think that's something you need to know and I think like he's somebody that might simply just get overlooked and somebody I'm going to be looking to buy pretty early. Jaba: Yeah. Two two additions there. I'm glad you mentioned that he skipped the complex. I mean Johnny Slowinski is another lefty from that draft class that we like. At least I like. underscore_underscore_: Yep. Yep. Jaba: he I think has only pitched in the complex this year. He might have pitched a little in single A. you know, you could maybe say, well, like they're being more careful with him 'cause he was taken higher. either way, I think it's a testament to this kid. you know that's that's meaningful in my Eyes. it also just from a brief look here, it looks like he had cancer in high school too. He had blown out his arm. So I mean there was a lot going on during his kind of formative years there. So I I mean I don't want to call him a late bloomer because he's 20, but I mean that that's a guy where he had serious development time kind of lost. And you know, if he just starts turning it on and comes out of nowhere, I don't think that. would surprise me at all. underscore_underscore_: No. Jaba: you know, I I'd still take Slavinsky head to head, but like you said, it's a very real arm a guy that I will also look to get some shares of. the strikeouts are just phenomenal. And yeah, I could see him being a late bloomer, so to speak, at the ripe old age of twenty one. I don't know if you had anything else with the Angels there. I didn't mean to comp underscore_underscore_: No, no, I mean, their pitching development seems to be pretty good as of late. Like Ryan Johnson's like turning that corner at the big league level. You have Salwinsky, have somebody even like a CJ Gray, who's got big stuff, has pitched okay so far this year. But, just kind of looking like there's some guys there. Mason McGuire, they acquired. Like Chase Shores has had his moments. Nate Snead's had some glubs. Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: George Classen's like... starting to figure out the strikes and Bremner has been Bremner. So like they have pitching, they've done a good job developing. So that kind of goes into it too, like, hey, I'll press a new owner. Like Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: they become the team of the future. So who knows. Jaba: Hundred percent. Over to the Mariners where we got a PO and a Riho. I'm gonna try to not get them confused. Both pretty good players. Both guys I've kind of seen, you know, when people post top 20 lists, he they're both kind of fringe there. you know, I don't want to get too much in the weeds, and I think once you get outside the kind of top 12 to 15, it's really personal preference. we'll start with Gregory Pio, 17 all year this past year in the DSL. Bit of a small righty outfielder, 5'11-170. Played really nicely. 817 OPS, only three homers. 18 steals, 12 extra base hits, hits the ball in the air pretty well, 36 walks to 33 K's. you know, not a lot to pick at here. wish he was a bit bigger. wish he had a left-handed bat. But underscore_underscore_: Thank Jaba: when most of the complaints are kind of nitpicky like that, and none really have to do with the stat line, I feel like that's a you know, that's a good sign. I'm not really sure what the upside is here. you know, you'd like to see a little bit more juice. But you know, eighteen steals to three caught stealing. It's not like he's just, you know, trying to basically underscore_underscore_: you Jaba: volume volume shoot his way to steals. just a solid all around profile. kind of that of like a high tier three guy. you know, I say tier three more just in like the wait and see. but he he he's it's a nice profile and I think you know he should definitely go to The complex next year. He'll be 18 all of next season in the complex, and we'll see what happens. He's definitely a name to know and keep an eye on. Over to Juan Rijo, number 12 in the international class last year, just turned 18 a few days ago. Left-handed outfielder, 6'1, 188, kind of that standard prototypical size. 911 OPS in the DSL. Cades were a little high with 48, but not terrible. 36 walk. Still. 17 extra base hits, same as P.O. He had three homers, only nine steals. I think he's definitely the more projectable of the two. You know, I'm not sure that there's a clear carrying tool, but people do speak very highly of his the zone control, which is a Wan Soto fan is something that I'm definitely biased towards. probably a corner outfielder, interesting profile. Again, no no downside in the profile. like I you know, I said the Ks are kinda high. they're not bad. by any means. I like I don't think he'd be Yeah. You know, he's like a tier two name to me. I don't think he's in my top fifteen, but if we opened it up to twenty, I think he's firmly in that conversation. Going to the last of the Mariners, seventeen-year-old shortstop Leonardo Reynoso. seven forty-eight OPS. Another one of those guys that only hit two twenty, but he had a three ninety-four on base percentage. Smaller shortstop switch hitter, which is fun. only three swipes, three caught stealing, only two homers, four extra base hit. It's just not you know, if a guy's not impacting the bowl that well, you'd like to see some more steals. you're kind of getting neither of those, a lot of ground balls. don't want to write the guy off. You know, he took his walks, twenty-two walks to thirty-two Ks. but of the three Mariners, I I would put it as, you know, Riho and then P.O. slightly black behind him, and then Reynoso is kind of an afterthought. He's not a he's not as Zero, but you know, he's just in that tier three where it's like, you know, if you get a few and they're selling for five bucks, maybe you just throw in a in a box and see what you got in a year or two. but yeah, underscore_underscore_: Yeah. Yeah. Jaba: that wraps up the Mariners. I mean all in, it's a decent team for PYTs, two good names. Nothing crazy, but you know, no no garbage, no filler either. underscore_underscore_: Yeah, I I like the real video that I watch. It's a really clean swing. It's the type of swing you're like, that's smooth. And once he gets actually some strength behind him onto him, I think the, the impact is going to come a little more. Like I said, I like when, guys are able to control the zone enough. Like you said, he has a Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: higher strikeout total, but I'm okay with it. As long as I mean, we see it with Andrew Fisher. He's not hitting like. Fisher's power, but at least he, Rio's carrying a 310 average right now, meaning he's putting the ball Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: in the lake. and then PO, mean, there's gotta be something there. He's a $3 million guy, even though like pipeline had him in the 32. He signed for three mils. So I guess there's something there. however, I don't know. I think Rio, wrote down here. I said, this is a guy I might buy a couple of in stash and just see. Mariners fans buy their prospects well. Jaba: We do. underscore_underscore_: Texas has two guys. Deward Tovar and Elian Rosario and I think Rosario's probably could be in some people's top tens I imagine. I don't know how he's being priced in PYAPs right now. I know you've kind of dug into it more but that's a kid you go and you watch some of the swings and it's like that's different. It's super physical already like he's huge, he's physical, he's strong, he doesn't look like your regular 17 year old. He's he's six foot two 195 already. And there's some clips on Twitter of him just ambushing balls and destroying them. He had eight home runs in the DSL near one to one walk to strikeout, which you like to see when power is the name of the game. Jaba: The K rate was so low too. underscore_underscore_: Right, like 32 K's, 29 walks in like a full slate and 175 at bats, like 46 games, less than a strikeout of walk, strikeout per game. Like we don't hate that when you're buying the power as kind of the carrying tool. Pipeline Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: gives them 60 power. That's plus. That means you're, you're better than an average big league power tool already. which we like and power cells. know that we know power cells and that's somebody that it's going to be dependent on where his prices are for me to go in on. I do think I want to buy some. wrote that I will be buying some and stashing some. I just don't know if he's going to be big at release or if we're able to kind of sneak him in quick. Kind of like a Juniper last year where he opened up at 20, 25 bucks, but you knew he was better than his current release. Jaba: Yeah. I I I was about to say if he opens up around twenty, I'm all all over that. I think probably up to thirty, I think he's a good buy. I mean, I try not to buy base early on. But I mean i if he's sub thirty underscore_underscore_: Right, but it's like a potential argument. Jaba: and the multiples are kinda going off that I I'm all in on that. underscore_underscore_: Right, let's see if any is on eBay right now. Just some color. good, a first blue mojo for 350 bucks. Beautiful. I'm gonna go buy that real quick, hold on. Jaba: That's that's great. Yeah, you should. underscore_underscore_: It's gotta be the... No, it's not even the same guy who's got everything else juiced up. Anyhow, the other is Duard Tovar, 20 year old, 14 homeruns enabled, so at least he's up out of the complex. Jaba: Up to eighteen now. God. underscore_underscore_: 18 home there we go left left outfielder a lot of lot of strikeouts 131 of them on the year I believe correct yeah it's a 46 walks 235 Jaba: We are. underscore_underscore_: average so you're kind of getting an all or nothing here 17 doubles three triples 18 home runs good for a slug of 442 ops of 768 I really don't have a whole lot to add there He's 5'10", 180 left-handed stick. He's going to have to continue to hit for juice, I think, to have some value as a prospect. And we'll see if the power continues or not. Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, I think that's like a kind of tier three where there's a real carrying tool that's been great in you know, full season ball. you know, eighteen homers is serious pop. but you know Yeah. underscore_underscore_: They're all at A. They're all at A ball too. Like he didn't like jump from the complex or... Jaba: Yeah, it's not one of those guys that, you know, kinda compiled in the complex and then came up late and struggled. I mean, that was underscore_underscore_: Right. Jaba: full season. but yeah, like you said, you know, the five ten one eighty frame, you know, sizes and everything. I mean, Juan Soto and Lindor are both guys that aren't that big. underscore_underscore_: Yep. Jaba: but they're also Juan Soto and Lindor. for the five ten one eighty, I don't know, it just scares me a little bit. with the strikeouts in tow. It's like, you know, he's clearly just going all out on the power. underscore_underscore_: Yep. Jaba: and you know, kinda as he grows, moves up in the minors, he starts you know, you see guys with real breaking balls and stuff. I think it could get ugly, but there's something there. I I don't think he's a throwaway. I'm kind of intrigued by him. I don't underscore_underscore_: Yep. Jaba: think I'll be buying any of him necessarily, but I could also see myself talking myself into him. if he's like five bucks, all over that. I mean underscore_underscore_: type of guy that you end up seeing like just in a random table walking by at a card show it's like there's a true blue for 30 bucks like color man like Jaba: Yeah. It's one of those guys where I could see someone at a table at a card show having like a true red for like two hundred dollars. Like I'd go I'd go buy that. underscore_underscore_: I do feel like it's worth noting too like one five ten one eighty right like it's not as bad either because he is 20 we're not talking about a 17 year old where you're to you're banking on physical projection like he kind of Jaba: Yeah. underscore_underscore_: what he is at this point and you know that and it's fine and the 18 home runs he said he's this is what his third season of pro ball or for third like Jaba: Yeah. Third. underscore_underscore_: he had 12 combined home runs the two years prior total So like he is tapping into that more, getting more juice out of it. Obviously larger sample sizes too, but still like to see it's kind of like that Anthony Martinez where he had like 12 home runs his whole collegiate career and then has a bunch this year in pro ball. It's kind of the same thing where Jaba: Yeah. Yeah. underscore_underscore_: they're getting into their tool that's going to be their carrying tool, which you kind of like to see at least. So yeah. Jaba: Yeah, I I I was gonna say it's funny you mention An Anthony Martinez 'cause in the last two episodes with Anthony Martinez for the Guardians and then Angel Nunez for the Reds, at least for me, there was kinda one guy in each of those where I talked myself into them, kinda going from like, to underscore_underscore_: Yep. Jaba: you know, making them a buy for me. not quite, you know, gonna put that stamp on it for Ellian Rosario, but er I'm sorry, for Deward Tover. But I'm not not putting that stamp on it. I wouldn't compare him to the last two guys that I mentioned. I like the other two more. But he's intriguing. I'm I'm intrigued. and that's underscore_underscore_: Those other two are like the tier one, like, I'm now going to buy them. This is like a tier two, like I've talked myself into it. So yeah. Jaba: Yeah, I'm g I'm you know, it's a name I'm gonna keep an eye on, for sure. yeah, I don't know if you have any other thoughts on the division. you know pretty pretty underscore_underscore_: That's the AL West, baby. Jaba: solid, solid crew. underscore_underscore_: Yeah. Jaba: no, you know, top five guys, at least for me. but underscore_underscore_: Maybe call it the Colome, like maybe, depending on how you want to organize it. Jaba: I remember using Jesus Colombia and MVP baseball O four, the first computer game I ever had as a child. Can tell ya basically all the rosters from that game. It's pretty disturbing stuff. underscore_underscore_: I liked it. Jaba: Yeah, I like that he had like the stole patch, like chin strap beard. Thought it cool. yeah. So that that wraps up the AL West. We're gonna roll right over into recording the NL West. so with that being said, thank you all for listening. appreciate you guys and underscore_underscore_: Go Mets. Jaba: Go Mats, go Mats.
