- 0:44out of the playoffs in five games the year before.
- 0:47Detroit used a physical defensive style to slow Jordan's scoring,
- 0:51and it worked. The Pistons won in six games. The
- 0:55Pistons then eliminated Chicago in the nineteen ninety conference finals
- 0:59as well. During that nineteen ninety off season, Jordan add
- 1:03in muscle he practiced his scoring in the post. All
- 1:06the work paid off. The Bulls once again met the
- 1:10Business in the nineteen ninety one Conference finals. This time,
- 1:14Jordan averaged twenty nine point eight points as the Bulls
- 1:17swept the series. The Bulls met the Los Angeles Lakers
- 1:21in the nineteen ninety one NBA Finals. Lakers point guard
- 1:25Magic Johnson had been the league's biggest star in the
- 1:28nineteen eighties. Now Jordan had a chance to take the throne.
- 1:32He did just that, evering ene more than thirty one
- 1:35points and eleven assists per game as the Bulls won
- 1:38in five games. Jordan was only getting started. He led
- 1:42the Bulls to victory in the nineteen ninety two and
- 1:44nineteen ninety three NBA Finals as well. Each time. Jordan
- 1:48was named Finals MVP in nineteen ninety ninety one in
- 1:53nineteen ninety one. In ninety two, he was named the
- 1:56NBA MVP as well. Willis became the first team to
- 2:01win three straight NBA championships since nineteen sixty six. Perhaps
- 2:07no athlete in the world was as famous as Michael Jordan.
- 2:13Michael Jordan had unmatched skills on the court. It turned
- 2:17out he had one of a kind markability off the
- 2:19court too. In nineteen eighty five, Nike released shoes specifically
- 2:23for Jordan, called the Air Jordan One. Millions of pairs
- 2:27were sewed in the shoes first year by nineteen eighty
- 2:30six eighty seven, Nike began to release signature Jordan's shoes
- 2:34each season. They became popular enough for Jordan to branch
- 2:37off with his own brain in nineteen ninety seven. The
- 2:40popularity of Jordan's shoes has always inspired modern NBA athletes.
- 2:45Many stars have their own signature shoes. Jordan was a
- 2:49big name for more than just shoes, though. In nineteen
- 2:52ninety one, Gatorade signed to deal with Jordan to make
- 2:54him the sports drinks first sponsored athlete. After He's started
- 2:59a commercial with the tagline be Like Mike, the drink's
- 3:03popularity skyrocketed around the world. Throughout his career. Jordan also
- 3:08had sponsorship deals with Coca Cola, Wheedy's, McDonald's, and other

- 3:19in July nineteen ninety three, his father, James, was killed
- 3:23in North Carolina. The prime of his career, Jordan questioned
- 3:26if he still wanted to play basketball. On October sixth,
- 3:30nineteen ninety three, he shocked the sports world when he
- 3:33retired from the NBA at age thirty. Jordan said that
- 3:36he needed a new challenge in his life. He had
- 3:39enjoyed playing baseball as a kid. The Chicago White Sox
- 3:42offered him an opportunity to try the sport professionally. Jordan
- 3:47played in the minor leagues in nineteen ninety four. However,
- 3:50he struggled on the baseball diamond. On March nineteenth, nineteen
- 3:54ninety five, Jordan returned to the NBA. It took some
- 3:58time for Jordan to be back at full strength. By
- 4:00nineteen ninety five ninety six, it was like he had
- 4:03never left. At age thirty two, Jordan won his eighth
- 4:07NBA scoring title and fourth MVP Award. Along with long
- 4:11time sidekicks Scottie Pippen, Jordan led the Bulls to an
- 4:15NBA record seventy two regular season wins after losing once
- 4:19in the opening three rounds of the playoffs, the Bulls
- 4:22faced the Seattle SuperSonics in the finals. Like clockwork, Jordan
- 4:27won another Finals MVP award. The Bulls quenched the championship
- 4:32on Father's Day. Afterward, an emotional Jordan wept on the
- 4:36floor with a game ball in his hands. The Bulls
- 4:40made it back to the finals in nineteen ninety seven.
- 4:42They faced the Utah Jazz. With the series tight, Jordan
- 4:46began filling ill ahead of Game five in Utah. He
- 4:50battled through the flu like symptoms and scored a game
- 4:53high of thirty eight points that included a three pointer
- 4:56to give the Bulls the lead with twenty five seconds left.
- 5:00After winning the flu game, the Bulls won Game six
- 5:03to secure Jordan's fifth championship. Then Jordan and the Bulls
- 5:07defeated the Jazz again in nineteen ninety eight to clinch
- 5:10another three peat. In all six wins, Jordan was named
- 5:13Finals MVP. Jordan dominated the NBA like no player had
- 5:18ever done before him. After the nineteen ninety eight finals,
- 5:22he retired again, and once again he came back. He
- 5:25played two seasons with the Washington Wizards, earning All Star
- 5:29selections both times. Finally, he retired for the last time
- 5:33in two thousand and three. Jordan remained a global icon.
- 5:37People still lined up to buy Jordan bringing shoes and
- 5:40other products he endorsed. Twenty ten, he bought the Charlotte
- 5:44Bobcats now the Hornets. The purchase made Jordan the first
- 5:48NBA majority owner who used to play in the league.
- 5:51Even after his career, Jordan was still making History. Our

- 11:56To celebrate, we are going to have a party, says
- 11:58zel de Zebra. Each person in Lama's class will make
- 12:02a special gift to bring to the party. It is
- 12:04time to have fun and be creative. Zela Zebra tells
- 12:08everyone to make something that only they can make. Luna
- 12:12Giraffe is busy with her crafts. She uses glitter, ribbon
- 12:16and colored paper. Gilroy Goat looks sadly at his friend Luna.
- 12:21I have no idea what gift to make, he says.
- 12:24I'm not very good with glitter. Gilroy is worried what
- 12:28will he make for his friends. Lama Lama can help.
- 12:32There are so many other things to make, says Lama.
- 12:35How about a sculpture from clay? Oh no, I made
- 12:39a blob, said Gilroy. Maybe I should try something besides art,
- 12:43he says. La Malama goes home after school. He wants
- 12:47to make his Valentine's gifts with Mama Lama. Lama Lama
- 12:51invites Gilroy to his house to help. Maybe that will
- 12:54give Gilroy a new idea of something he can make.
- 12:58Lama says that he has an eye idea. Lama wants
- 13:01to make yummy cookies for his friends. I can make
- 13:04them heartshaped, he says. I'm ready to help, says Mama Lama.
- 13:09Me too, shouts Gilroy. Oh oh, making cookies isn't so easy.
- 13:15Our cookies look like blops, said Ma, says Lama Lama.
- 13:20Mama Lama has an idea. I say we make another batch.
- 13:24She says, next time they will look like hearts. Lama
- 13:28Lama and Gilroy take a break from baking to visit Luna.
- 13:31She is making animals out of paper for her gifts.
- 13:34I knew you would make something fantastic, said Lama Lama.
- 13:39You're always so creative. The boys try to make a
- 13:42paper bird. Oh no, Gilroy's bird doesn't look like a
- 13:47bird at all. I better keep trying to find something
- 13:49else I'm good at, says Gilroy. At home, Lama Lama
- 13:53and Gilroy make another batch of cookies. Oh no, these
- 13:57cookies don't look like hearts either. This cookie looks like
- 14:01an octopus, Lama says as he looks at his cookies.
- 14:05Don't worry, we will try again, says Mama. While these
- 14:09cookies are baking, let's go visit Nelly to see what

- 14:18It smells so good in here, says Gilroy. We're using
- 14:22cookie cutters to make chocolate shapes, says Nellie. Nelly came
- 14:26up with a great gift. Gilroy tries to make a
- 14:29chocolate shape. Gilroy makes a mess instead. Don't worry, Gilroy,
- 14:34I know you'll find the right thing to make, says Nellie.
- 14:37On the way home, Lama Lama and Gilroy visit Euclid.
- 14:41Euclid is making little buildings out of wooden sticks. Wow,
- 14:45these buildings are so amazing, says Lama Lama. But Gilroy
- 14:50can't build anything like that for his friends. He is
- 14:54not great at math like Euclid is. You have to
- 14:57figure out your own things, says Lama La. I know
- 15:01that you will come up with something great, says Euclid.
- 15:04The Valentine's Day party is finally here. What amazing and
- 15:08original Valentines says Zilda Zebra. I made heartshaped cookies for everyone,
- 15:14says Lama Lama. You just have to use your imagination
- 15:18on the heart part, he says. Everyone laughs and eats
- 15:21a cookie. There is one more gift to give out
- 15:24is a Valentine's Steak card. But these aren't just any
- 15:28Valentine's Steak cards. They're poems inside. Lama Lama reads his
- 15:34card out loud. It says he is a great friend.
- 15:36I love my poem, he says, did you get a poem,
- 15:40Gilroy asks Luna. Gilroy shrugs. Wait, Lama Lama understands it
- 15:46was you. You wrote the poems. Lama Lama shouts, this
- 15:51is what you made for Valentine's Day, he says. Gilroy
- 15:55smiles proudly. You told me to do something that was
- 15:58creative in me, and I love writing, he says. To
- 16:01Zilda Zebra, you are so good at it. I hope
- 16:05you do a lot more of it, says Zilda Zebra.
- 16:09What a special Valentine's Day. Lama Lamana's classmates show one
- 16:13another how much they care, and they discover their own
- 16:17special talents. Our next step stories are about winter and
- 16:21the first one is titled Sleep, Big Bear Sleep, and
- 16:25it was published by Marshall Cavendish Children. It has a
- 16:30copyright year of two thousand and nine and The author
- 16:32of our text is Maureen Wright. Old Man Winter, from
- 16:37a storm cloud spide his big Bear friend in the countryside.
- 16:42He leaned to the earth and softly sided sleep Big
- 16:45Bear sleep. But big Bear didn't hear very well. He
- 16:50couldn't sleep in his den in the dell. He thought
- 16:52he heard as twilight fell, drive a jeep. Big Bear
- 16:56drive a jeep, so big Bear as he drove around
- 17:01in a jeep on a road just south of town.
- 17:04But after a while he stopped in a park and
- 17:06old Man whispered as it grew dark, Sleep Big Bear sleep.
- 17:11The big bear didn't hear very well. He couldn't sleep
- 17:14in his gin in the dell. He thought he heard
- 17:16as dry leaves fell, sweep big Bear sweep. So big
- 17:21Bear went to a house down the street and swept
- 17:24each room so nice and neat. But after a while
- 17:29he yawned again, and old Man Winter warned his friend sleep.
- 17:33Big Bear sleep, But big Bear didn't hear very well.
- 17:37He couldn't sleep in his gin in the dell. He
- 17:39thought he heard as shadows fell, leap, big Bear leap.
- 17:45So big Bear found a frog can you and played
- 17:48leap frog? While the cold wind blew till all at
- 17:51once he fell to the ground. The wind through the
- 17:53trees was the only sound, and old man Winter said
- 17:57with a frown, sleep big bears sleep. But big Bear
- 18:02didn't hear very well. He couldn't sleep in in his
- 18:05din in the dell. He thought he heard as darkness fell.
- 18:09Dive deep, big Bear, dive deep. So Big Bear padded
- 18:13to a clear blue lake. Finding it hard to stay awake,
- 18:18he dove in deep and swam to the shore. He
- 18:21had never been so very tired before. His head dropped
- 18:26down and he let out a snore, and old man
- 18:29Winter said, once more, sleep, big Bear. Sleep. That big
- 18:33Bear didn't hear very well. He couldn't sleep in his
- 18:36gin in the dell. He thought he heard as snowflakes fell.
- 18:40Climb a mountain steep, big Bear steep. So Big Bear
- 18:46trudged in the mountaintop, where the code wind blew and
- 18:49the temperature dropped. He sat on a stump on the
- 18:52highest spot and wished for a blanket and a fold
- 18:55up cot. Then he stumbled back down with his eyes
- 19:00eyes half shut. So tired he didn't know which end
- 19:03was up. O Mian yelled while shaking his heads. Hey,
- 19:09there bear. Did you hear what I said? It's wintertime.
- 19:12Now go to beds. Big Bear's eyes were droopy and red.
- 19:16You could have told me before, he said. He lumbered
- 19:19nearby to his cozy Din rubbed his eyes and yawned again.
- 19:25He put on his PJS and blew out the light,
- 19:27and fluffing his pillow, he said, good night. Our next
- 19:31story is gonna be a fable and it was published
- 19:35by monkey Pen Books. It has the copyright year of
- 19:42twenty twenty and the author is T. Alberts. On a
- 19:49huge mountain in the big forest, there was a medium
- 19:51sized metal and a small pond. And his small pond
- 19:54lived Terrence the turtle and his two best buddies, Sam
- 19:58and Sally Swan. Oh. You may think it, ah that
- 20:02a turred on swans were buddies, really true friends, But
- 20:05I assure you they were. Every day the three of
- 20:08them would search the pond for food, swim together, and
- 20:11play games and tell stories on the shore. When it
- 20:14got dark, Sam and Sally would return to their nest
- 20:17under a large tree, and Terence to his din on
- 20:20the shore by their tree. One year, there was a
- 20:25little rain and the pond began to dry. Up. The
- 20:28three friends were concerned and talked about what they should do.
- 20:32We should stay here, said Terence. The rain always comes in.
- 20:35The pond has been our home since we were born.
- 20:38I don't think the pond will last, said Sally. I
- 20:42think we need to find a new home, said Sam.
- 20:44Then Sam flew away in search of a new pond.
- 20:47After several days, Sam returned to find the pond almost
- 20:51dry and his friends not doing well at all. Sam
- 20:54Terrence shouted excitedly, we are glad to see you. The
- 20:58pond is almost dry, Sally's hungry and scared, and my
- 21:01shell is starting to crack. Did you find a new home? Yes,
- 21:06said Sam. It is beautiful, but very far away, and
- 21:09I don't know how you will get there. The three
- 21:13talked for a long time. Then Terence said, I will
- 21:16stay here and dig deep into my den, and the
- 21:19two of you, my two friends, fly to your new home. No,
- 21:23shouted Sally, we will all go. There has to be
- 21:26a way, said Sam. The three set under the bright
- 21:29sun and silence, thinking of a way to get to
- 21:32the far away pond. I know how to do it,
- 21:37shouted Terrence. See that stick, he said to Sam. Sally,
- 21:41and you will each take an end in your bill
- 21:45and will bite in the middle. Then you can fly
- 21:48to our new home while I hang onto the stick.
- 21:51We can all be together again. The three sat in
- 21:54silence thinking about Terrence's idea. It will work, said Sally.
- 22:00I agree, said Terence. Maybe, said Sam. Sam looked at
- 22:05Terrence and Sally for a few minutes and said, yes,
- 22:08I think it will work. But none of us can
- 22:10talk or open our mouths. No matter what, does everyone understand?
- 22:15Does everyone agree? Yes, said Sally, I agree too, said Terrence.
- 22:20Terence Sam firmly said it is most important that you
- 22:24do not talk or open your mouth. Remember, you can't fly.
- 22:28I understand, said Terence. Within a minute, Sally and Sam
- 22:32each had the stick firmly held in their bills. Sam
- 22:35opened his mouth and bit down on the stick. They
- 22:38were off. Sally Swan and Sam Swan flew side by side,
- 22:42separated by a stick, with Terence Turtle hanging in the middle.
- 22:46It was a very strange but funny sight. As they flew,
- 22:51climbing higher and higher, no one dared talk or open
- 22:53their mouth. Faster and faster, higher and higher, Sally and
- 22:58Sam flew. Terence was terrified as they passed over a town,
- 23:04they could hear the people talking and laughing. Look up
- 23:06in the sky, shouted one boy, What is it? Asked another.
- 23:10As the people looked up, they began to laugh at
- 23:13a strange sight. They laughed, whistled, hooted, and hollered at
- 23:17the silly swans carrying a turtle on a stick. Terrence
- 23:21heard all that noise, but couldn't look down to see
- 23:23what was going on. Ignoring the advice that Sam had
- 23:27given him, he opened his mouth to ask what was happening.
- 23:30Before he could say a word, he was falling and
- 23:33looking up at his flying friends. Oh don't worry, Terence
- 23:38didn't get hurt. You see, they were close enough to
- 23:41their new home. So Terence fell into the big deep pond,
- 23:45but not listening to his two friends could have ended
- 23:48it differently for him. That's all we have time for today,
- 23:55So this concludes the Children's Story Hour for today. Please

- 24:03fables and fairy tales. Thank you for listening, and please
