Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Game day.
- 0:03Speaker 2: It feels good to say it.
- 0:04Speaker 3: The World Series is about to start and FT is
- 0:08Speaker 3: covering it more than we ever have. We have boots
- 0:11Speaker 3: on the ground in Milwaukee. We have five hours of
- 0:14Speaker 3: shows today, people. We have a two hour show right now.
- 0:17Speaker 3: We have a two hour pregame show at six o'clock
- 0:21Speaker 3: Eastern that you'll be able to watch right here live
- 0:23Speaker 3: on the YouTube channel for FT. If you're watching on
- 0:26Speaker 3: TV right now, you can flip over to YouTube in
- 0:28Speaker 3: a few hours to watch us from 6 to 8 Eastern.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Live in Milwaukee.
- 0:33Speaker 3: And then we will be on for a post-game show
- 0:35Speaker 3: after Game 1 of the Fall Classic between the Brewers
- 0:37Speaker 3: and the Rays.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm so pumped.
- 0:39Speaker 3: But let's show it off. This is where the 6
- 0:41Speaker 3: o'clock show is going to be. 90s-style Fox 1 activation
- 0:45Speaker 3: at Catalano Square.
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's going to be packed. It's the 90s throwback theme.
- 0:49Speaker 2: It looks nice.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Does that take you back a little bit, Toddfather? Like
- 0:52Speaker 3: you're either in your own home or a friend's home
- 0:55Speaker 3: watching a ball game in the 90s?
- 0:57Speaker 4: In the man, in there, supposedly. I don't even know
- 1:00Speaker 4: if they called it man caves back in the 90s.
- 1:02Speaker 4: In their boys' room, you know what I mean? So
- 1:05Speaker 4: it's fantastic. It's colorful. It's beautiful. And you can put
- 1:11Speaker 4: your feet up there and just enjoy a ball game with,
- 1:14Speaker 4: you know, with a root beer or, you know, water,
- 1:16Speaker 4: whatever you like to have fun. Popcorn, hot dogs, and,
- 1:19Speaker 4: you know, just enjoy a World Series ball game, which
- 1:21Speaker 4: is pretty cool.
- 1:23Speaker 5: It's called a basement. That's where I watch the games.
- 1:25Speaker 5: In the basement.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Same, same.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Uh, it's a free pop-up experience too. So if fans
- 1:32Speaker 3: want to go there, Corey can able is going to
- 1:33Speaker 3: be there. The former all-star brewers closer Alana's out there
- 1:37Speaker 3: doing awesome interviews and then she'll be hosting the show.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I'll be in the live chat talking to people. Then
- 1:43Speaker 3: Kevin Pilar is there too. So we're excited about it.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It's at the end of Broadway out there at Catalina square.
- 1:48Speaker 3: If you're in Milwaukee, you know, if you're visiting, then
- 1:51Speaker 3: look it up.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:53Speaker 3: First pitches, by the way, tonight, uh, Robin Yount and
- 1:57Speaker 3: Bud Selig for game one.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Power duo.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Game two, Paul Molitor.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Very nice.
- 2:07Speaker 5: I love first pitches.
- 2:08Speaker 6: I love trying to think who it's going to be.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Who's going to be the Rays representative when they go
- 2:15Speaker 6: back home? Who's going to be that first pitch? But
- 2:18Speaker 6: then you get to game three and four in Milwaukee. Well,
- 2:22Speaker 6: six and seven in Milwaukee. Who will that be? And
- 2:25Speaker 6: then it's, you know, game five, the third game in Tampa.
- 2:30Speaker 6: I love it when they make it a surprise.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I can't wait for Eric Kratz game seven.
- 2:35Speaker 3: If game seven happens, it could be Eric Kratz out there,
- 2:39Speaker 3: not necessarily throwing the first pitch, but.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Catching the first pitch. You'll never know.
- 2:43Speaker 4: You'll never know. Listen, this is, you know, and I'll
- 2:46Speaker 4: button it up, but this seems to be like the
- 2:49Speaker 4: big thing in baseball now, like, Who's throwing out the
- 2:52Speaker 4: first pitch? I think that is so cool. I think
- 2:55Speaker 4: maybe in NBA, they should be like, who's going to
- 2:58Speaker 4: do the first layup or jump? You know, I think
- 3:00Speaker 4: maybe like they should all, you know, what are they
- 3:03Speaker 4: doing football? They bring somebody out for the coin toss,
- 3:05Speaker 4: like that stuff. You know what I mean? So every, every,
- 3:08Speaker 4: at least me as a baseball fan and everything else,
- 3:11Speaker 4: I'm excited to see who's up next.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Hockey does it. Not even just fans. Not even just fans.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Players do it. Hockey does the puck drop. But players,
- 3:21Speaker 6: I remember talking about when we went to the World Series,
- 3:23Speaker 6: people were like, oh, who's it going to be? Oh, man,
- 3:26Speaker 6: I wonder who they're going to bring back. Oh, is
- 3:29Speaker 6: Bo Jackson coming? You know, that kind of thing. That
- 3:32Speaker 6: type of stuff, everybody talks about it. But the other sports,
- 3:36Speaker 6: the puck drop's second coolest.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It's very cool.
- 3:40Speaker 3: All right, let's hit all smiles. All Smiles is presented
- 3:52Speaker 3: by Lorraine Co. Let's start with this. Brandon Woodruff hasn't
- 3:55Speaker 3: pitched since July and he is well known in the
- 3:58Speaker 3: Brewers world.
- 3:59Speaker 2: He's been one of their best pitchers over the past decade.
- 4:02Speaker 3: He was a part of that crew with you in
- 4:03Speaker 3: 2018 when you guys were one game shy of making
- 4:06Speaker 3: it to the World Series in Kratz. He is on
- 4:08Speaker 3: the World Series roster.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Your thoughts?
- 4:12Speaker 5: Bold move, Cotton. See how it plays out.
- 4:15Speaker 6: I think it's something he knows his body. The fact
- 4:18Speaker 6: that he's able to He'll feel where he's at in
- 4:20Speaker 6: an empty stadium. He knows it's going to uptick. He
- 4:23Speaker 6: has experience.
- 4:25Speaker 5: I love it.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Unless it doesn't go well and Major League Baseball says, actually,
- 4:31Speaker 6: we can't replace him. I don't think Big Woo is
- 4:34Speaker 6: going to get hurt. I'll be honest. You get a
- 4:36Speaker 6: little extra something, something during the postseason that, you know what,
- 4:39Speaker 6: I'm going to feel fine.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's interesting. But listen, Murph has pushed all the
- 4:48Speaker 4: right buttons. So I am not second guessing anything about
- 4:51Speaker 4: what he has going on. Maybe there's somebody else. I
- 4:55Speaker 4: don't know necessarily who didn't make it with him coming on,
- 4:58Speaker 4: but maybe. Yeah. Okay. Chad Patrick. So I'm sorry about Chad,
- 5:03Speaker 4: but maybe there's something going on that we really don't
- 5:06Speaker 4: know behind the scenes. I'm not saying there is it's speculation,
- 5:09Speaker 4: but you know, he knows his own players.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I think big Wu, if he's right, can be, a
- 5:16Speaker 3: really valuable weapon as another bullpen piece to one of,
- 5:20Speaker 3: if not the best bullpen in baseball and deepest bullpen
- 5:23Speaker 3: in baseball this year. So you could add big woo
- 5:26Speaker 3: to the mix, right? Is it, I mean, I know
- 5:30Speaker 3: you're talking about the risk crats, but is it worth
- 5:32Speaker 3: the risk? If he can be any semblance of a
- 5:35Speaker 3: big woo for an inning or two, you know, every
- 5:38Speaker 3: other game or whatever it is that he's able to bring.
- 5:40Speaker 7: To the table.
- 5:41Speaker 3: He looked pretty good from what I remember from, up
- 5:44Speaker 3: until he went down again, even though this stuff is
- 5:46Speaker 3: not the same as the Big Woo.
- 5:48Speaker 2: That we're used to.
- 5:48Speaker 3: He's been through a lot injury-wise. He still knows where
- 5:52Speaker 3: it's going, and there's still some good movement on it.
- 5:55Speaker 3: It's just not the same velocity that you've seen in
- 5:57Speaker 3: the past from Big Woo when he was pumping upper 90s,
- 5:59Speaker 3: and it was, what, a top three fastball in the
- 6:02Speaker 3: sport at one point for starting pitching.
- 6:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you're talking about a guy that, yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 6: was Cy Young type of pitcher, a guy that got
- 6:10Speaker 6: a qualifying offer this year, so... There was going to
- 6:13Speaker 6: be other teams that wanted to have his services. He
- 6:16Speaker 6: means a lot to this team. This team's going to
- 6:18Speaker 6: be running high on adrenaline. There's some veteran leadership. But,
- 6:23Speaker 6: I mean, his last two starts, he went six punchies,
- 6:29Speaker 6: six punchies, five innings, three innings. The one before that,
- 6:34Speaker 6: six innings, ten punchies. Like, you're going to get an
- 6:37Speaker 6: inning out of him. If you push him farther than that,
- 6:42Speaker 6: It's because it's an awkward or unique situation in the game,
- 6:46Speaker 6: up by a lot, down by a lot. I think
- 6:48Speaker 6: you're going to get an inning out of them, and
- 6:50Speaker 6: I think it's only going to give this team a
- 6:53Speaker 6: boost of veteran leadership and experience.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Big boost for two. Oh, go ahead, Todd.
- 7:00Speaker 4: No, I just wanted to buy it. What happens if
- 7:02Speaker 4: he comes out throwing just cheddar, Bob? I mean, listen,
- 7:05Speaker 4: you never know. It could be a one-inning guy that
- 7:08Speaker 4: they're going to need. I don't know. Murph. He's got
- 7:11Speaker 4: it all spinning there. Go ahead, Scotty. Sorry. No, you're right.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I mean, the VLO is probably going to be better
- 7:16Speaker 3: than you think it is based on doing one inning
- 7:18Speaker 3: and being in the postseason and potentially pitching in Milwaukee
- 7:21Speaker 3: where that automatically is going to give you a few
- 7:24Speaker 3: more ticks on the fastball. I think he was 93-ish
- 7:27Speaker 3: in his sim game or pen or whatever it was
- 7:30Speaker 3: the other day.
- 7:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Okay.
- 7:33Speaker 2: So let's say we add, what, maybe two or three ticks? Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 5: I think it'd be 94, 95.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Close to 95.
- 7:39Speaker 6: That'll be the slowest pitcher out of their bullpen besides
- 7:42Speaker 6: Robert Gasser. But there's that. I mean, the bullpen averages,
- 7:46Speaker 6: it's a different look. It's a different look of a
- 7:48Speaker 6: guy that knows how to get his strikeouts and he's
- 7:51Speaker 6: just going to let it eat for as long as
- 7:52Speaker 6: he's out there.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Give the boys what he's got.
- 7:55Speaker 3: So he was sitting at Media Day yesterday before we
- 7:58Speaker 3: heard that he was officially on the roster and Alana
- 8:01Speaker 3: Rizzo spoke to him. She spoke to Murph about it too,
- 8:03Speaker 3: but she spoke to Big Wu and here's what he
- 8:06Speaker 3: said about it.
- 8:08Speaker 7: I care about one thing and that's winning. Um, I
- 8:11Speaker 7: know it's not an easy decision. Um, everything had to
- 8:14Speaker 7: work out perfectly just to even have a, a shot
- 8:17Speaker 7: at getting to this point. Um, you know, from the beginning,
- 8:21Speaker 7: once I didn't need surgery, it was, um, it was
- 8:25Speaker 7: a deal where once I started throwing, um, I just
- 8:30Speaker 7: wanted to be an option at this point. Um, I
- 8:33Speaker 7: know what I bring to the table. Um, As a player,
- 8:37Speaker 7: I'll always believe in myself, but I also realize that
- 8:41Speaker 7: I haven't pitched in a game in three months or
- 8:44Speaker 7: whatever it is. There's definitely a lot that goes into
- 8:48Speaker 7: the decision. The mental game has always been, I feel like,
- 8:52Speaker 7: a strength.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Of why I am who I am.
- 8:56Speaker 7: I started working on it hard back in the COVID season.
- 9:00Speaker 7: And that's one thing going, unfortunately going through a lot
- 9:03Speaker 7: of these rehabs over the last couple of years. I, um,
- 9:07Speaker 7: that's one thing I can do is mental reps and, um,
- 9:10Speaker 7: I can do as many of those as I want.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Laying in the bed.
- 9:13Speaker 7: You know, when I come to the yard, um, I'm
- 9:16Speaker 7: big on visualization. Uh, I try to put myself in moments. Um,
- 9:22Speaker 7: so from that aspect, that side of it's never left
- 9:25Speaker 7: for me. Um, I've just had some physical challenges over
- 9:29Speaker 7: the last couple of years, and that's the nature of
- 9:31Speaker 7: kind of a shoulder.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Brandon Woodruff talking to Alana Rizzo in Milwaukee.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I like that stuff, too. I mean, he's always been
- 9:38Speaker 3: a good talker. We've had him on the show many times, Toddfather,
- 9:42Speaker 3: but he's visualizing the moment. And then, yeah, luckily for him,
- 9:44Speaker 3: he didn't need the surgery. So most people didn't think
- 9:47Speaker 3: he was going to make it back in time. But
- 9:49Speaker 3: here he is, just in time for the Fall Classic.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Yeah, and listen... Are they going to use him a
- 9:55Speaker 4: lot we won't know until they get into the heart
- 9:59Speaker 4: of these games will he be the first guy off
- 10:01Speaker 4: the bench probably not Kratzy I think you would agree
- 10:04Speaker 4: with me but you know what happens if there's an
- 10:08Speaker 4: opportunity uh you know all of a sudden they're they
- 10:10Speaker 4: go down big in the third inning and it's like
- 10:12Speaker 4: all right we got to take our starter out and
- 10:14Speaker 4: they're hoping you know maybe they're trying to get two
- 10:15Speaker 4: or three out of them and use him there to
- 10:18Speaker 4: get him back into a game. I don't know. I'm
- 10:20Speaker 4: not a manager, but I love where he's at. It
- 10:23Speaker 4: looks like he's mentally strong. He's mentally fit and physically fit.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I liked him from day one. I still do. Is
- 10:31Speaker 4: he the same pitcher of old? No, but he's crafty.
- 10:35Speaker 4: I'm sure what he's been doing, getting back here, he's
- 10:38Speaker 4: been doing a lot of video stuff, a lot of visualization,
- 10:41Speaker 4: a lot of looking at other teams, and now he
- 10:44Speaker 4: probably knows these players in and out. But again, You
- 10:47Speaker 4: have to execute. We all know that. And looking at him,
- 10:50Speaker 4: if I'm him, I am as happy as a kid
- 10:52Speaker 4: on Christmas morning knowing that I'm playing in my first
- 10:55Speaker 4: World Series. It's pretty amazing.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Football season is finally back and Fabletics just teamed up
- 11:02Speaker 6: with NFL's number one wide receiver Jamar Chase on a
- 11:05Speaker 6: new collection. It's got tees, it's got hoodies, it's got
- 11:08Speaker 6: baggy cargoes and performance gear that fits right into everything
- 11:12Speaker 6: this season brings. From workouts and travel to game day
- 11:16Speaker 6: and everyday life, it's definitely worth checking it out. It's fall,
- 11:20Speaker 6: we're watching playoff baseball, but I'm doing it in comfort.
- 11:23Speaker 5: You know why?
- 11:24Speaker 6: Because I'm wearing this exact sweatshirt when it's a little
- 11:27Speaker 6: warm outside, but it's crisp and breezy. Nobody take my sweatshirt.
- 11:33Speaker 6: That includes everybody in my house. Shop now at fabletics.com
- 11:37Speaker 6: slash foul to get 70 to 80% off everything when
- 11:41Speaker 6: you sign up as a new VIP. And yes, that
- 11:44Speaker 6: includes the new Jamar Chase collection. Take a quick style
- 11:47Speaker 6: quiz and be sure to select foul when prompted to
- 11:50Speaker 6: unlock this offer. This is a limited time offer, so
- 11:53Speaker 6: don't wait. And again, fabletics.com slash foul for 70 to 80%.
- 11:58Speaker 5: Off everything as a new VIP. 100%. One of the
- 12:01Speaker 5: best teammates I ever had.
- 12:03Speaker 6: I mean, he's in a lot of big spots for
- 12:06Speaker 6: the Brewers for us that year that we played together.
- 12:09Speaker 6: But just an incredible person. And I think it gives... Look,
- 12:14Speaker 6: if he pitches, I don't think it's that big of
- 12:17Speaker 6: a spot. I just think it is a... I mean,
- 12:20Speaker 6: Chad Patrick didn't pitch. Harrison didn't pitch. Like, there's plenty
- 12:25Speaker 6: of guys that haven't pitched out of this vaunted bullpen.
- 12:27Speaker 5: So, to me... Good for Big Wu, good for the org,
- 12:31Speaker 5: doing their due diligence.
- 12:33Speaker 6: And reality is he's not one of the guys right now,
- 12:36Speaker 6: or shouldn't be as long as everything goes well.
- 12:40Speaker 3: And then on the other side, we're going to talk
- 12:42Speaker 3: to Ken Rosenthal soon, but we did a long segment
- 12:45Speaker 3: on the pitching strategy in terms of who is starting
- 12:47Speaker 3: when for the Rays, and then we found out that
- 12:50Speaker 3: it is happening. Nick Martinez game one, Drew Rasmussen game two,
- 12:54Speaker 3: and then Freddy Peralta game three, and then he'd be
- 12:56Speaker 3: in another scenario and in game seven, if we got there,
- 13:00Speaker 3: obviously you can pitch in between three and seven. We've
- 13:03Speaker 3: seen him do that in the last series, but let's
- 13:05Speaker 3: cue this from yesterday. After we heard that news, Alana
- 13:09Speaker 3: talked to Drew Rasmussen about it.
- 13:13Speaker 2: There is nobody on this planet.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I don't think outside of the raise organization that thought
- 13:16Speaker 3: you wouldn't get the ball for game one, talking to
- 13:18Speaker 3: Kevin cash about it, obviously an extra day of rest
- 13:20Speaker 3: for you.
- 13:21Speaker 6: And it can certainly handle the situation. Freddie gets to
- 13:23Speaker 6: pitch at home.
- 13:24Speaker 3: What does that mean to you?
- 13:26Speaker 9: I mean, I'm really excited. I'm excited that Nick's going
- 13:28Speaker 9: to get us out of the gates, and I'm really
- 13:31Speaker 9: interested to see how he attacks these hitters and just
- 13:33Speaker 9: get an idea for what he's seeing and his preparation
- 13:37Speaker 9: and see how I can compare that to what I'm seeing.
- 13:41Speaker 9: And then, I mean, he's been phenomenal this year. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 9: I'm so excited for him as a person. Obviously, his
- 13:48Speaker 9: journey hasn't also been the most straight and narrow. So,
- 13:52Speaker 9: you know, I... it couldn't be a better guy leading
- 13:55Speaker 9: us out there tomorrow. And I'm just, like I said,
- 13:57Speaker 9: I just couldn't be happier.
- 13:58Speaker 3: It's never linear.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It happened, Kratz.
- 14:05Speaker 5: We talked about it.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we did.
- 14:07Speaker 6: We talked about it. And we talked about how there's
- 14:11Speaker 6: pros and cons. And I'm excited to get into, hopefully
- 14:14Speaker 6: Ken can tell us what those conversations that he heard
- 14:18Speaker 6: they were having. And to me, I'm looking at the advantages,
- 14:23Speaker 6: and I think it is a tremendous move. How much
- 14:26Speaker 6: of the negatives, how much of the, you know, what's
- 14:30Speaker 6: the ramification of losing Game 1.
- 14:35Speaker 5: If that happens?
- 14:36Speaker 6: And is it Nick Martinez's fault? And I think ultimately
- 14:39Speaker 6: that's what they decided it wasn't going to be, Nick's fault,
- 14:42Speaker 6: if they end up losing. Because they know this is
- 14:45Speaker 6: what's best for the entire seven-game.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Series, except.
- 14:51Speaker 6: You might be leaving one of your pitchers out there
- 14:54Speaker 6: if you lose in six. It's my fear in making
- 14:58Speaker 6: this decision.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Well, let's talk to Ken about it. Ken Rosenthal getting ready.
- 15:02Speaker 3: When we swing back, the TV crowd's going to go
- 15:05Speaker 3: to a break. We'll keep talking here on YouTube. And
- 15:07Speaker 3: then Ken will join us. And a shout out to
- 15:10Speaker 3: Lorraine Coe. This is all smiles, baseball fans.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Lorraine Co.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Remineralizing pouches are nicotine-free. They're made with powerful nootropics to
- 15:17Speaker 3: keep you mentally sharp while supporting that smile, your teeth.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Go to buylorraine.com and use code FT10 at checkout. That'll
- 15:24Speaker 3: get you 10% off.
- 15:27Speaker 10: You've gotten more phone calls than I have. I have
- 15:30Speaker 10: not heard a word about it, and I'm under contract here, and.
- 15:33Speaker 5: I love Cleveland.
- 15:34Speaker 10: I would love to be close to my family, if
- 15:36Speaker 10: I'm being honest.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I miss them every day.
- 15:38Speaker 10: It's the hardest part of this job, but I'm committed
- 15:41Speaker 10: to being here in Cleveland, and I hope I'm here
- 15:42Speaker 10: for a long time.
- 15:44Speaker 3: That's Steven Vogt, Guardians manager, talking down any rumors tying
- 15:49Speaker 3: him to the Mariners. He is currently under contract with
- 15:52Speaker 3: the Guardians. He lives in Washington, state of Washington, right?
- 15:56Speaker 6: East of Seattle.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Olympia? I think it's called.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 3: So he misses his family. His family isn't with him
- 16:06Speaker 3: in Cleveland during the season. It's not a crazy thought.
- 16:09Speaker 3: It just doesn't sound like it was a real thought.
- 16:12Speaker 3: as he claims he didn't have any conversations with Seattle.
- 16:15Speaker 3: And that's probably the case. They can't have any conversations
- 16:18Speaker 3: with him unless they had permission.
- 16:21Speaker 6: A real thought or something that actually happened. Like you
- 16:25Speaker 6: surely think about it. You surely think about the fact
- 16:27Speaker 6: that you're close to home. He knows, or that you're
- 16:30Speaker 6: not close to home. And that would be home. The
- 16:33Speaker 6: one year he was a bullpen cat bullpen coach there.
- 16:36Speaker 5: He was living at home.
- 16:38Speaker 6: He was, but, I won't get into, but he and
- 16:42Speaker 6: I are both, we are aligned in the family situation, dynamic, kids, wife, everything.
- 16:49Speaker 6: And I won't get into that conversation that we had,
- 16:52Speaker 6: but I know it means a lot to him. And
- 16:53Speaker 6: I know it would mean a lot to be able
- 16:55Speaker 6: to spend that time together. And, you know, so that
- 17:01Speaker 6: is just a genuine person. What you saw in that
- 17:05Speaker 6: interview is exactly who he is. And it's cool that
- 17:09Speaker 6: he is now coveted by two teams, the one he's
- 17:13Speaker 6: on and another team.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Listen, I will say this, and this is from personal playing.
- 17:20Speaker 4: And when you're done playing, I know you had a conversation,
- 17:24Speaker 4: but I'm just being honest when you're in his situation,
- 17:28Speaker 4: if he had asked to be a manager for the
- 17:31Speaker 4: Seattle Mariners, I don't think he would. I think he
- 17:34Speaker 4: would sit back, put a smile on his face and
- 17:36Speaker 4: tell his wife, wow, we, we made it to where
- 17:39Speaker 4: we need to be. This is awesome. And Maybe I'm
- 17:41Speaker 4: speaking out of tune. I'm sorry for Cleveland fans, but
- 17:45Speaker 4: from my personal experience, love the players I'm with, but
- 17:48Speaker 4: ultimately my family comes before anything. And if I had
- 17:52Speaker 4: an opportunity to stay at home and be a manager
- 17:55Speaker 4: and God, I mean, that would be the icing on
- 17:58Speaker 4: the cake of my career and for his career, you know,
- 18:02Speaker 4: and again, I'm putting words into his mouth, but I
- 18:04Speaker 4: think ultimately I think that would be a perfect thing
- 18:08Speaker 4: for him.
- 18:09Speaker 8: Yep.
- 18:10Speaker 4: You never know. He does want to be in Cleveland,
- 18:13Speaker 4: but same token.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's the Inside Scoop.
- 18:22Speaker 3: It's presented by the Fox One app and that Fox
- 18:25Speaker 3: One pop-up experience, which will have our shows six to
- 18:28Speaker 3: eight over the next couple of days in Milwaukee. Ken
- 18:30Speaker 3: Rosenthal joining us right now. Ken, let's start with Big Woo.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Brandon Woodruff on the roster for the Brewers. What do
- 18:35Speaker 3: you think of the storyline and the impact he could have?
- 18:39Speaker 1: It's an amazing storyline.
- 18:41Speaker 11: And for those who don't know, he has not pitched
- 18:43Speaker 11: since July 4th. It was originally thought he would need
- 18:47Speaker 11: season-ending shoulder surgery. And he basically announced that a couple
- 18:51Speaker 11: of weeks after he was on the IL.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And then it turns out he didn't need the surgery.
- 18:56Speaker 11: So he started a throwing progression and got to the
- 18:59Speaker 11: point where he threw live batting practice on Tuesday. He
- 19:02Speaker 11: had a couple of bullpen sessions before that. And Even
- 19:06Speaker 11: though he has not pitched in a game, even a
- 19:08Speaker 11: rehab game, since July 4th, they added him.
- 19:11Speaker 1: He is their longest-tenured player. He is beloved in that clubhouse,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and rightly so. He is a tremendous person.
- 19:18Speaker 11: The risk they're taking, obviously, is if he gets hurt again,
- 19:22Speaker 11: there is a rule that states if it's.
- 19:24Speaker 1: A recurring injury, he can't be replaced on the roster.
- 19:27Speaker 11: Clearly, they feel confident enough that that's not going to happen.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And you ask how they're going to use him, Scott,
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's interesting. Obviously, he's only going to be an inning
- 19:36Speaker 1: or two at most, if he can even do an up-down,
- 19:39Speaker 1: but the idea.
- 19:40Speaker 11: Of him as an opener is something that I have
- 19:42Speaker 11: heard floated, and that would be probably the best way
- 19:46Speaker 11: to use Brandon Woodruff.
- 19:47Speaker 1: One inning, get him out. Now, he's not going to
- 19:49Speaker 1: be 95. 95, 96. He was at 90, 92 the
- 19:52Speaker 1: other day. But they trust him. They trust the person.
- 19:55Speaker 1: They trust him to throw strikes.
- 19:57Speaker 11: And it was kind of a sentimental move in some ways,
- 20:01Speaker 11: but they're trying to win the World Series.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So they're not acting out of sentiment here.
- 20:04Speaker 11: They're acting because they feel in some particular spot, he
- 20:08Speaker 11: might be the best player person for that job. And
- 20:12Speaker 11: he's taking the place of Chad Patrick, essentially.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Chad Patrick did not pitch in, I believe, either of
- 20:17Speaker 1: the series. So most likely, it's no harm.
- 20:21Speaker 4: No foul.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And I doubt we'll even see him pitch.
- 20:24Speaker 11: But there is a possibility of him as an opener
- 20:27Speaker 11: or who knows, in some other capacity.
- 20:49Speaker 9: You can save up to a dollar a gallon with
- 20:51Speaker 9: the Marathon Rewards app.
- 20:54Speaker 8: That last one was pretty good.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Marathon, where fun runs on full. Available at participating Marathon locations.
- 20:59Speaker 5: Terms and conditions apply.
- 21:00Speaker 4: See MarathonRewards.com for details. Murphy's been phenomenal. You bring up trust.
- 21:06Speaker 4: A manager who has been so good. for a while now.
- 21:10Speaker 4: I mean, think about his track record, how he's done it.
- 21:13Speaker 4: He's pushed all the right buttons. He looks from the outside,
- 21:16Speaker 4: looking in, he looks like he's under control. Is this
- 21:19Speaker 4: just one of his little pawns that he's putting in there?
- 21:22Speaker 4: And all of a sudden this guy's going to come
- 21:24Speaker 4: out and he's like, wow, Murphy pushed all the right buttons.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Or is this just, do you think in your mind,
- 21:29Speaker 4: maybe there's something else going on where it's like, all right,
- 21:31Speaker 4: this is the best fit. Just plain, simple as that.
- 21:35Speaker 11: It's an organizational decision. It's not a Pat Murphy decision.
- 21:39Speaker 11: Pitching coaches had input and they love Woodruff.
- 21:42Speaker 1: They trust him.
- 21:43Speaker 11: Murphy obviously has that background with him as well. He
- 21:45Speaker 11: was the bench coach before he was the manager there
- 21:48Speaker 11: and saw.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Woodruff at his best.
- 21:50Speaker 11: And it was the front office that had to come
- 21:52Speaker 11: around to some extent with regard to the possibility that
- 21:56Speaker 11: he might get hurt.
- 21:57Speaker 1: It might be a recurring injury or a pre-existing condition.
- 22:00Speaker 11: And MLB would say, no, you're going to play with
- 22:02Speaker 11: 25 now instead of 26.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Clearly, by making this decision, they feel.
- 22:07Speaker 11: Comfortable that he can contribute. Otherwise, you're trying to win
- 22:11Speaker 11: the World Series. You're not handing out lollipops at this point, right?
- 22:15Speaker 1: It's serious stuff.
- 22:17Speaker 11: So I was surprised, I will say, that they made
- 22:21Speaker 11: this decision because there is some risk to it. But
- 22:23Speaker 11: at the same time, he's going to get a tremendous
- 22:25Speaker 11: ovation tonight at American Family Field.
- 22:28Speaker 1: It's going to be one of the first cool moments
- 22:30Speaker 1: of this World Series.
- 22:32Speaker 6: The Rays don't have any Cy Young Award winners or
- 22:35Speaker 6: future Hall of Famers, so Big Woo won't hit a
- 22:37Speaker 6: home run against them. People don't remember he hit a
- 22:40Speaker 6: home run against Clayton Kershaw, game one of the NLCS.
- 22:43Speaker 6: So no, Big Woo's not going to be hitting in
- 22:46Speaker 6: this series. Can you reiterate or can you dive a
- 22:50Speaker 6: little bit more into the reoccurring injury?
- 22:52Speaker 5: Because what I.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Heard, it's not just this injury. It's any of the
- 22:56Speaker 6: injuries that he's had over this past season putting him
- 22:59Speaker 6: on the I.L.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Is that correct?
- 23:01Speaker 11: Well, I would assume that is correct, and the injuries
- 23:05Speaker 11: this season were strictly shoulder-related.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Okay, so it's just shoulder.
- 23:08Speaker 1: So if it's the shoulder again, and that's the injury,
- 23:11Speaker 1: then it's a problem.
- 23:13Speaker 11: At the same time, this came up yesterday in a
- 23:17Speaker 11: conversation we were having as writers. If he gets hurt,
- 23:21Speaker 11: and if it's the shoulder, they can obviously say it's
- 23:23Speaker 11: something else, and I know the medical people will check
- 23:26Speaker 11: him out and all that, but there probably is something
- 23:28Speaker 11: else that will be going on, so... You can always figure.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It out that way. I know that's suggesting some chicanery,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and I don't know that the Brewers would do that,
- 23:36Speaker 1: but I don't know that this rule is that prohibitive.
- 23:40Speaker 11: I don't know that it's going to stop anything from
- 23:45Speaker 11: happening the way it should. If he, yes, hurts his
- 23:48Speaker 11: shoulder again, it's a problem, and they can't replace him,
- 23:52Speaker 11: I should say.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But clearly they feel the risk is not that great.
- 23:56Speaker 5: All right. Well, we know you don't make– Predictions.
- 24:01Speaker 6: But man, did you write a banger of a story
- 24:03Speaker 6: on predicting who was going to possibly start Game 1,
- 24:08Speaker 6: moving into Game 2 and 3 with Nick Martinez. How
- 24:12Speaker 6: was that conversation broached? When you first had a conversation
- 24:15Speaker 6: or heard about it internally, talked about, was it something
- 24:18Speaker 6: that you asked? Was it an innocent question that turned into, well,
- 24:24Speaker 6: this is a discussion, or was it somebody that reached
- 24:26Speaker 6: out to you?
- 24:28Speaker 1: No, nobody is just volunteering information, Eric.
- 24:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that's dumb.
- 24:34Speaker 11: But it was an idea in my head because I
- 24:38Speaker 11: know they had in the previous series in the ALCS,
- 24:42Speaker 11: once they had the rain out, they did not go
- 24:44Speaker 11: with right away Rasmussen. They pushed him back a day
- 24:49Speaker 11: to give him the extra day's rest. So I thought, well,
- 24:51Speaker 11: would they do that again?
- 24:53Speaker 4: I asked.
- 24:53Speaker 11: I asked a few people and was told essentially it's
- 24:56Speaker 11: something that's being discussed. And then when I thought about it,
- 25:00Speaker 11: what I wrote was really not a prediction as much
- 25:02Speaker 11: as my opinion on what should happen. And I felt
- 25:06Speaker 11: that the course that they chose was the one that
- 25:08Speaker 11: should happen. Now, it is very debatable on both sides,
- 25:14Speaker 11: and I see both sides. But to me, Nick Martinez,
- 25:18Speaker 11: great veteran, great leader. He's not going to be phased
- 25:22Speaker 11: by anything at all. He's pitched well on the road
- 25:24Speaker 11: this season, better on the road pretty significantly than at home.
- 25:28Speaker 11: has started two road games in this postseason already. So
- 25:31Speaker 11: I know he's their number three, but I felt comfortable. Okay,
- 25:36Speaker 11: that makes sense to me. Then Rasmussen gets his extra day,
- 25:40Speaker 11: not only for game two, but a potential game six
- 25:42Speaker 11: because he'd be coming or pitching into the off day
- 25:45Speaker 11: with game two. The off day is the next day
- 25:47Speaker 11: and then having the off day before game six. So
- 25:49Speaker 11: that gives him the five days rest. And that would
- 25:53Speaker 11: benefit him. He's pitched a career-high 193 innings. He's had
- 25:57Speaker 11: three elbow surgeries. You don't want to take an undue
- 26:01Speaker 11: risk with him if you don't have to. And then
- 26:03Speaker 11: there's Freddy Peralta. Freddy Peralta at the Trop has been dominant.
- 26:08Speaker 11: He's actually been dominant everywhere since he turned his season around.
- 26:12Speaker 11: But at the Trop, we've seen some things with the
- 26:15Speaker 11: fastball movement, and clearly he has been really good there.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And also.
- 26:20Speaker 11: And this is not a small thing in my mind, Eric.
- 26:22Speaker 11: It gets him out of Milwaukee, at least for the
- 26:25Speaker 11: first start. He doesn't have to pitch in his former
- 26:28Speaker 11: park with the added emotions of that. I don't know
- 26:31Speaker 11: that that would be beneficial to him. Now, he ultimately
- 26:34Speaker 11: might end up pitching game seven in Milwaukee.
- 26:36Speaker 1: They can worry about that later.
- 26:39Speaker 11: So if you added it all up or the way
- 26:42Speaker 11: I added it all up, I felt this was the
- 26:44Speaker 11: right way to go. Now, the other side of it
- 26:46Speaker 11: is you're not throwing your best right away. You're throwing
- 26:49Speaker 11: your number three starter in game one. You're risking Freddy
- 26:53Speaker 11: Peralta making only one start in this series, the hottest
- 26:57Speaker 11: pitcher that they have. Well, with Rasmussen, one of the
- 26:59Speaker 11: hottest pitchers they have. One start if you lose in six.
- 27:04Speaker 1: That's not necessarily a great move.
- 27:06Speaker 11: So there are two sides of it, obviously, but the
- 27:09Speaker 11: idea of giving Rasmussen the extra rest, that is what
- 27:13Speaker 11: seems to be driving this. There are other good reasons
- 27:15Speaker 11: as well, as I just cited, but That, to me,
- 27:18Speaker 11: is most important. And his numbers are really good on
- 27:21Speaker 11: four days rest, five days rest, and six or more.
- 27:24Speaker 11: But they improve the more rest he gets.
- 27:27Speaker 1: So that's the genesis of the decision. We'll see how
- 27:31Speaker 1: it plays out. And Nick Martinez is a unique guy.
- 27:35Speaker 11: He is someone who is at 36 having the best
- 27:38Speaker 11: year of his career. He is the leader of this team.
- 27:41Speaker 11: He's the guy that brings everyone together. And Drew Rasmussen
- 27:45Speaker 11: told Alana Rizzo yesterday on our show yesterday that he
- 27:48Speaker 11: is so excited to see Martinez pitch this game.
- 27:51Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens. The Miz is going for
- 27:53Speaker 1: the other guys. He's pretty good.
- 27:56Speaker 6: You can tell how respected Nick is and you can
- 27:58Speaker 6: tell by the way that his teammates and everything talk
- 28:00Speaker 6: about him. Has the organization been able to put their
- 28:03Speaker 6: finger on what the issue is of this inconsistency at home,
- 28:09Speaker 6: the one place where they knew, okay, these are definitely
- 28:12Speaker 6: half of your starts most likely for the year are
- 28:14Speaker 6: going to be at home. Is there something that they've
- 28:16Speaker 6: placed to that blame or have they not been able
- 28:19Speaker 6: to figure that out?
- 28:21Speaker 1: I've not asked that question, Eric, and I don't know
- 28:23Speaker 1: the answer.
- 28:24Speaker 11: Sometimes with those home road splits, and I'm not saying
- 28:27Speaker 11: this is the case here because I don't know, Sometimes
- 28:30Speaker 11: it's one bad game that throws it out of whack.
- 28:33Speaker 1: He's been pretty good even at home, not as good
- 28:35Speaker 1: as on the road. So I don't know that there's
- 28:38Speaker 1: anything to it. We do know.
- 28:39Speaker 11: Fastballs play at the Trop. The vertical movement is better
- 28:44Speaker 11: in those conditions. He is not someone who has a
- 28:47Speaker 11: great fastball, right?
- 28:48Speaker 1: So maybe that's part of it. I don't know.
- 28:53Speaker 4: I want to talk about– go ahead, Kratzy.
- 28:55Speaker 5: No, no, you're good.
- 28:57Speaker 1: No.
- 28:57Speaker 4: All right. I want to go. I brought up Pat
- 29:00Speaker 4: Murphy a little bit. Let's switch it over to Tampa
- 29:02Speaker 4: Bay and Mr. Cash. Talk a little about him. I
- 29:06Speaker 4: feel like, honestly, people are at least around here and
- 29:09Speaker 4: talking about baseball, the Brewers, Brewers, Brewers. But they forget
- 29:12Speaker 4: how good of a manager this guy is. Can you
- 29:15Speaker 4: talk about what his approach is, how he's gone through
- 29:17Speaker 4: this whole thing? He's been through it before, and then
- 29:20Speaker 4: they finally get back to the World Series. Do you
- 29:22Speaker 4: see anything different with him moving on, or is it
- 29:24Speaker 4: just this Tampa Bay team? I mean, nobody saw this coming, really,
- 29:27Speaker 4: at the beginning of the year.
- 29:28Speaker 1: No, you're right, Todd.
- 29:29Speaker 11: And most people picked them for last in the AL East.
- 29:32Speaker 11: They thought the other four teams were going to fight
- 29:35Speaker 11: it out, and it didn't happen that way at all. Cash,
- 29:39Speaker 11: to me, what's most important... about him is the way
- 29:42Speaker 11: he relates to players, the way he gets the most
- 29:46Speaker 11: out of players. And that's an organizational thing, too. They
- 29:48Speaker 11: all kind of collaborate on that. But he has a
- 29:51Speaker 11: way of communicating with his guys that helps things along.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And I go back to last year.
- 29:57Speaker 11: When they played, of course, in the minor league park,
- 29:59Speaker 11: the Yankee spring training facility, for a full season.
- 30:04Speaker 1: It was not a great situation. Everyone knew it.
- 30:07Speaker 11: It was not a great place to pitch. There were
- 30:09Speaker 11: conditions there that were just not major league quality. And yet,
- 30:14Speaker 11: President of Baseball Operations Eric Neander and Cash set a
- 30:18Speaker 11: tone that we're not making excuses.
- 30:20Speaker 1: It is what it is, and we're just going to
- 30:22Speaker 1: deal with it. And you didn't hear those guys squawk
- 30:24Speaker 1: at all about what was going on, even though they
- 30:26Speaker 1: had every right to. And even though what was going on.
- 30:29Speaker 11: Was really unfair from a competitive standpoint. So now this
- 30:33Speaker 11: year they get back to the Trop. They're dominant in
- 30:35Speaker 11: that building. And it just seems that they've kept this
- 30:39Speaker 11: team competitive. Neander, Cash, the entire group. At times when
- 30:43Speaker 11: people thought they wouldn't be. And remember, they're operating with
- 30:46Speaker 11: a low payroll. They're always down in the bottom five,
- 30:48Speaker 11: it seems, or close to it. So all the credit
- 30:52Speaker 11: to them. And They do a great job of maximizing
- 30:55Speaker 11: their players' abilities. This year, they have players who can bunt.
- 30:59Speaker 1: So what are they doing? They're bunting.
- 31:01Speaker 11: It's not a philosophy where we're a bunting team all
- 31:03Speaker 11: of a sudden. It's adapting to your personnel. They've done
- 31:07Speaker 11: it with their pitching as well. This is the team
- 31:09Speaker 11: that introduced the opener.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And yet here they are leaning on starters. Why?
- 31:13Speaker 11: They've got good starters, and their bullpen is a little
- 31:16Speaker 11: bit weaker than it has been in recent years.
- 31:18Speaker 1: So they just are always... ahead of the curve, and
- 31:22Speaker 1: it shows.
- 31:23Speaker 11: It shows in their records over the last, I don't know, 15,
- 31:26Speaker 11: 20 years.
- 31:27Speaker 1: They've been good.
- 31:29Speaker 6: Leaning on the starters. Leaning on them more than they have.
- 31:32Speaker 6: And when you bring up Kevin Cash and you say
- 31:34Speaker 6: leaning on starters, Blake Snell, you know, he gets a
- 31:37Speaker 6: kick in his neck every.
- 31:38Speaker 5: Once in a while. Has Kevin Cash....
- 31:42Speaker 6: Mentioned or said it's a concerted effort? Because you saw
- 31:45Speaker 6: Rasmussen out there in the seventh inning in a little
- 31:48Speaker 6: bit of a jam against Cleveland. He gets a ground
- 31:50Speaker 6: ball double play. Has he said as much as he's
- 31:55Speaker 6: learned as a manager? Or is it a different personnel,
- 31:58Speaker 6: like you said, that he's made the adjustment to the personnel?
- 32:02Speaker 1: It's probably both, Eric. And certainly the Blake Snell game,
- 32:05Speaker 1: we all remember it. And we all remember what happened
- 32:08Speaker 1: and how that transpired. But that was.
- 32:11Speaker 11: A decision he made that night that he felt was best,
- 32:14Speaker 11: it didn't work out. In this particular case, with this team, yes,
- 32:20Speaker 11: he has starters who can go deeper. He has relievers
- 32:22Speaker 11: who aren't necessarily as trustworthy as in the past.
- 32:25Speaker 1: So he's going to manage differently.
- 32:27Speaker 11: And that's the beauty of the race, the way they
- 32:29Speaker 11: have adapted, as I was just kind of explaining. So
- 32:33Speaker 11: I don't know that it's been any philosophical shift. I
- 32:36Speaker 11: don't know that he would ever say, oh, my gosh,
- 32:37Speaker 11: I learned from that game. Because that game, he made
- 32:40Speaker 11: his decision for reasons he felt were the right ones
- 32:44Speaker 11: at the time. Now, I always thought, looking back at
- 32:46Speaker 11: that game, the bigger problem was bringing in Nick Anderson,
- 32:50Speaker 11: who had been struggling and he wasn't the right choice. But, again,
- 32:54Speaker 11: it's baseball, it's the postseason, these decisions are made, and
- 32:58Speaker 11: our analysis of them are always outcome-related. Now, you could
- 33:01Speaker 11: argue with the process there, you could argue with the
- 33:04Speaker 11: decision that they made, but if.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Nick Anderson had gotten out of it. We're not talking
- 33:09Speaker 1: about this six years later.
- 33:10Speaker 2: That's right. Now he gets another crack at it.
- 33:13Speaker 3: And this team definitely lets their starters eat more than
- 33:16Speaker 3: that one, maybe more than any race team we've seen.
- 33:18Speaker 2: So we're excited for it.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Ken, enjoy.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Have fun out there. We'll see you on the broadcast later.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Thanks, guys.
- 33:25Speaker 3: That's Ken Rosenthal, and you'll see him on Fox for
- 33:28Speaker 3: their exclusive coverage of the World Series. And you can
- 33:31Speaker 3: watch that World Series also on the Fox One app
- 33:34Speaker 3: at home or on the go, live or on demand.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Never miss a moment. You can stream it right now.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Start your Fox One three-day free trial today if you
- 33:40Speaker 3: don't have it yet at foxone.com.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Also, Fox One is in Milwaukee. So is FT. We're
- 33:48Speaker 2: on the set. 90s throwback set at Catalano Square. Another reminder.
- 33:51Speaker 3: 6 o'clock Eastern to 8. That includes former All-Star closer
- 33:55Speaker 3: Corey Knievel, part of the FT fam, and Kevin Pillar,
- 33:58Speaker 3: along with Alana Rizzo, some guests. It's going to be fun. Actually,
- 34:02Speaker 3: I heard some tailgating guests will be there, some former
- 34:04Speaker 3: Brewers players. So stay tuned on that one. They'll be
- 34:07Speaker 3: on the show.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Be right back.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Hey, I kind of brought this up yesterday. Here's a
- 34:12Speaker 3: tweet from Bob Nightingale. While the Brewers and Rays are
- 34:15Speaker 3: lauded for their analytic departments... lost is the fact that
- 34:18Speaker 3: they have two of the top 10 largest scouting staffs.
- 34:21Speaker 3: In fact, the rays have the largest pro scouting staff
- 34:25Speaker 3: in major league baseball, which I'm sure is music to
- 34:27Speaker 3: your ears, Todd father. It's not just that this team
- 34:31Speaker 3: is advanced. Both of these organizations and forward thinking part
- 34:35Speaker 3: of being forward thinking is not chopping all of your
- 34:38Speaker 3: scouting staff. And that's what these two teams are proving.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Yeah. Um, The scouting staff. I'll lean on that. I
- 34:48Speaker 4: think that's fantastic. The guys that go to the games
- 34:51Speaker 4: that drive anywhere from an hour to 14 hours, no
- 34:56Speaker 4: matter how many states they have. I know guys on
- 34:58Speaker 4: the East Coast that have 12, 13 states that they
- 35:01Speaker 4: got to depict through and challenge themselves to go see
- 35:05Speaker 4: kids play in fall baseball, in the spring and summer.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Tireless hours. And guess what? Once they get home, they
- 35:13Speaker 4: got to go through and decipher and write reports on
- 35:15Speaker 4: every single one. So it takes away from their families
- 35:18Speaker 4: as well. Yes, that's phenomenal. The analytical part, I'll let
- 35:24Speaker 4: Kratzy get into. But for me, I think when you
- 35:28Speaker 4: see here, when you use your eyes and you see
- 35:31Speaker 4: who a ballplayer is, what he does, how he runs
- 35:34Speaker 4: on and off the field, how his mom and dad
- 35:37Speaker 4: are reacting to every little play that doesn't go right,
- 35:39Speaker 4: those things You know, to name a few things, those
- 35:43Speaker 4: are human element things. I am a big believer. I
- 35:47Speaker 4: want to see a dude play and I want to
- 35:49Speaker 4: see how he does, especially when he fails. I want
- 35:52Speaker 4: to see if he's still picking his teammates up and
- 35:54Speaker 4: they have found some fantastic players. Of course, you know,
- 35:57Speaker 4: some days better than others, but you know how hard
- 36:00Speaker 4: that job is to be a scout right now, especially
- 36:02Speaker 4: now that the rounds have gone down to 20 and
- 36:06Speaker 4: you only get 20 picks to figure out all over
- 36:09Speaker 4: the world. Kudos to these scouting directors for sure.
- 36:15Speaker 6: I called a scout that used to work for the
- 36:17Speaker 6: Brewers and he would say, yes, they have a lot,
- 36:21Speaker 6: but it's weird because they do it differently. They have
- 36:24Speaker 6: more of a numbers-based, very video, very what's the track man,
- 36:30Speaker 6: what's the this, which is different than the other organizations
- 36:35Speaker 6: that this specific scout worked for, but It clearly works
- 36:40Speaker 6: for him.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Also, there's a difference between pro and amateur scouts. So
- 36:44Speaker 3: there's two sides to tell on that one, too.
- 36:47Speaker 2: We can get into it at another point.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Todd Rosiak joining us, and he writes for the Milwaukee
- 36:57Speaker 3: Journal Sentinel. Milwaukee is raging with World Series fever right now. Todd,
- 37:02Speaker 3: great to have you on. And I saw how even
- 37:05Speaker 3: when the Brewers hit the road, the watch parties are
- 37:07Speaker 3: sold out, 31,000 the tailgating has already started. I think
- 37:11Speaker 3: 10 a.m. Eastern, I was told, or 10 a.m. local,
- 37:13Speaker 3: maybe that the first tailgater showed up. So what's it
- 37:15Speaker 3: like out there?
- 37:18Speaker 8: Uh, I tell you as somebody who, uh, was in
- 37:21Speaker 8: sixth grade, I'm born and raised here. Last time the
- 37:24Speaker 8: Brewers went to the world series, this is bringing back
- 37:27Speaker 8: a lot of memories to those days for me. Um,
- 37:29Speaker 8: town is electric. The only thing, the only other time
- 37:33Speaker 8: I can really think that, um, Just everybody going crazy
- 37:38Speaker 8: in the electricity level would have been the 21 bucks
- 37:42Speaker 8: NBA championship run. But it's just been nuts. I mean,
- 37:47Speaker 8: you mentioned the watch parties. You know, we're talking about
- 37:50Speaker 8: ticket prices to get in tonight and tomorrow that are
- 37:53Speaker 8: surpassing Super Bowl ticket prices. I mean, there's no parking.
- 37:57Speaker 8: There's no hotel availability. It's insane.
- 38:01Speaker 4: It's insane.
- 38:02Speaker 8: They had to close the team stores down at the
- 38:03Speaker 8: ballpark yesterday. because they had been ransacked so bad by
- 38:07Speaker 8: customers going in there trying to buy merch. So everything
- 38:10Speaker 8: should be ready and back up and running tonight. And
- 38:13Speaker 8: I expect nothing less than an absolutely crazy, crazy atmosphere
- 38:19Speaker 8: tonight when these two teams take the field.
- 38:23Speaker 4: First off, not many more Todd's out there, man. So
- 38:26Speaker 4: I appreciate you barking down the name, dude. I don't
- 38:29Speaker 4: feel like anybody's name. I can't name a single person
- 38:32Speaker 4: that's going to name their newborn Todd. I mean, I
- 38:35Speaker 4: don't know about you. Have you heard about that at
- 38:36Speaker 4: all or no?
- 38:37Speaker 8: You know, actually, it's funny you mention that because the
- 38:41Speaker 8: Brewers amateur scouting director is also named Todd, but he
- 38:45Speaker 8: spells it with one D. So anytime I see him,
- 38:48Speaker 8: I'm always like, man, you got to add that extra D.
- 38:51Speaker 8: You're misspelling your name.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Not happy about that. Kidding aside. Give me one guy
- 38:58Speaker 4: right now on this Brewers team. Take the pitching out
- 39:01Speaker 4: of it, starting pitching, relievers. Give me one guy in
- 39:03Speaker 4: this offensive team that if he does not get going
- 39:06Speaker 4: and get this Brewers team rocking, it's going to be
- 39:08Speaker 4: a little bit of an uphill battle for the squad
- 39:10Speaker 4: because we know all about the boys they got, but
- 39:13Speaker 4: is there a guy that's going to step up and
- 39:15Speaker 4: all of a sudden like, oh, this is our storyline
- 39:17Speaker 4: we're going to talk about in this World Series? Who
- 39:19Speaker 4: do you think if you had one to choose from?
- 39:21Speaker 8: I mean, it seems like such an obvious name because
- 39:24Speaker 8: it probably is, but to me it's Jackson Chirio. You know,
- 39:26Speaker 8: if you look at his batting average in the NLDS
- 39:30Speaker 8: and the NLCS, I believe cumulatively it was 188. But
- 39:34Speaker 8: every hit that he had, I believe six hits, were
- 39:36Speaker 8: all really, really impactful hits. You know, we're never going
- 39:40Speaker 8: to forget about that walk-off two-run single off of Mason Miller,
- 39:44Speaker 8: the home runs. This kid, 22 years old, is absolutely– electric.
- 39:49Speaker 8: He lives for these big moments, and I certainly would
- 39:52Speaker 8: expect to see him in the leadoff spot. Pat Murphy
- 39:55Speaker 8: loves him up there, kind of getting the offense going,
- 39:58Speaker 8: and he's really improved defensively as well. One of the
- 40:01Speaker 8: real kind of low-key plays, I think, in the postseason
- 40:04Speaker 8: so far for the Brewers was that crazy Ty France ball.
- 40:08Speaker 8: It hit the roof cable in game one of the NLDS,
- 40:11Speaker 8: and Jackson Chirio had the presence of mind to find
- 40:14Speaker 8: that ball, camp under it, and catch it, not really
- 40:16Speaker 8: knowing whether it was going to be an out or not.
- 40:19Speaker 8: So to me, he's really, you know, there's other names
- 40:22Speaker 8: on this team, of course, Bryce Terang, Christian Yelich, William Contreras,
- 40:26Speaker 8: Jake Bowers has been swinging it like crazy. But to me,
- 40:29Speaker 8: Jackson Churio really is the guy, the straw who stirs
- 40:32Speaker 8: the drink for this team.
- 40:34Speaker 6: What does right field look like for this team? Obviously,
- 40:36Speaker 6: Laura and Freelick, but the lack of consistent, dominant left-handed
- 40:44Speaker 6: pitchers besides Boozer, does it look like they're going to
- 40:48Speaker 6: give the runway completely to Sal because that's obviously a
- 40:52Speaker 6: spot in the lineup that the Rays are going to
- 40:55Speaker 6: look to exploit after they get through the power of
- 40:58Speaker 6: the first.
- 40:59Speaker 5: Five or six guys.
- 41:00Speaker 8: Yeah. Luis Lara, tremendously talented young player. The Brewers really
- 41:06Speaker 8: believe in him. The fact that he can switch hit
- 41:08Speaker 8: is obviously really big, but Sal Freelick, he's Pat Murphy's dude.
- 41:15Speaker 8: I mean, there's no way around that. And uh, offensively,
- 41:19Speaker 8: his numbers haven't been terrific in the post season, but again,
- 41:23Speaker 8: he's found a way to impact games. Uh, you know,
- 41:25Speaker 8: he was on base, drawn a walk against Mason Miller
- 41:28Speaker 8: to set up that cheerio single. Like I was talking
- 41:30Speaker 8: about earlier, just a gritty, gutty guy, you know, what
- 41:33Speaker 8: you're going to get from him. He's going to play
- 41:35Speaker 8: tremendous defense and right field as well. And, um, I,
- 41:40Speaker 8: I almost feel like he's, uh, you know, he's kind
- 41:42Speaker 8: of a, comfort piece for Pat Murphy, if you want
- 41:45Speaker 8: to say it that. He just loves having him in
- 41:47Speaker 8: the lineup. So he's had big postseason moments before. A
- 41:51Speaker 8: couple of years ago, he had that big home run
- 41:52Speaker 8: against the Mets in the wildcard series. He's just a
- 41:56Speaker 8: guy that somehow, someway always seems to figure it out
- 42:00Speaker 8: and deliver when the lights are at their brightest. So
- 42:03Speaker 8: I would expect Sal Freelick to get plenty of run
- 42:06Speaker 8: in the series and also produce.
- 42:09Speaker 6: Tell me about the shortstop position with Cooper Pratt. Cooper Pratt,
- 42:13Speaker 6: normally a ridiculous defender. That's why he got called up.
- 42:18Speaker 6: People were like, oh, his bat's behind. He has a
- 42:20Speaker 6: multi-hit game in L.A. against the Dodgers. You're like, oh,
- 42:23Speaker 6: his bat is there and he makes, does he have
- 42:25Speaker 6: four errors this postseason?
- 42:27Speaker 1: Three. Three?
- 42:29Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 42:30Speaker 6: Which is crazy that they're still dominating like they are.
- 42:33Speaker 6: There's no flux in that position, right? Because you have
- 42:36Speaker 6: Joey Ortiz. I mean, convince me that there isn't any
- 42:41Speaker 6: flux or shouldn't be any flux in that position.
- 42:44Speaker 8: No, it's Cooper Pratt's spot. Making the equation, I think,
- 42:47Speaker 8: a little bit easier is the fact that Joey Ortiz
- 42:50Speaker 8: has been battling injuries for the last month or six
- 42:53Speaker 8: weeks or so. He really has not been the same
- 42:56Speaker 8: Joey Ortiz that we were used to the final six
- 42:59Speaker 8: weeks of the season. offensively, defensively. Cooper Pratt has had
- 43:03Speaker 8: some rough moments at shortstop, yes. Most of those moments
- 43:08Speaker 8: were against the Padres and the NLDS. NLCS looked a
- 43:12Speaker 8: lot better, a lot smoother, and he made some plays,
- 43:16Speaker 8: especially late in that sweep game at Dodger Stadium in
- 43:20Speaker 8: game four. I was like, wow, looking like a 10-year
- 43:23Speaker 8: vet out there. So the Brewers have all the confidence
- 43:25Speaker 8: in the world in him, and I tip my cap
- 43:27Speaker 8: to him as well because Obviously, this is a huge stage,
- 43:31Speaker 8: unprecedented for him, and he really hasn't seemed phased by
- 43:34Speaker 8: it at all. It's almost like he's amused by it
- 43:37Speaker 8: more than anything. You talk to him, he's just kind
- 43:39Speaker 8: of like, you know, happy-go-lucky, happy to be here, you know,
- 43:42Speaker 8: happy to get these opportunities. And then you mentioned the bat, too.
- 43:46Speaker 8: I think the Brewers feel like anything they can get
- 43:48Speaker 8: offensively from him right now is a bonus. But still,
- 43:52Speaker 8: he's hitting over 300, so shortstop's his job.
- 43:57Speaker 4: The number two pitcher on this team, Logan Henderson, has
- 44:00Speaker 4: been for real. Love what he does, everything else about it.
- 44:04Speaker 4: I feel like this guy, he's getting two starts for
- 44:07Speaker 4: sure if they go that far. He is the dude,
- 44:10Speaker 4: besides the Miz, as we know, he's going to be great.
- 44:13Speaker 4: You know, he works well. Talk to me about Logan
- 44:15Speaker 4: Henderson and what this guy has to do for them
- 44:18Speaker 4: to be World Series champions.
- 44:21Speaker 8: Well, first and foremost, let's get the stash out of
- 44:23Speaker 8: the way, right? I mean, it's top-notch look. We had
- 44:25Speaker 8: Peyton Toll here yesterday doing some media stuff, another guy
- 44:29Speaker 8: with a great stash. But kidding aside, what a story.
- 44:33Speaker 8: You know, this is a kid from 2021 draft out
- 44:38Speaker 8: of junior college. You know, not like electric, electric stuff
- 44:43Speaker 8: like the Miz. Obviously, who has that? But strikeout ability,
- 44:47Speaker 8: really calm, level-headed guy. super humble, just could never stay
- 44:53Speaker 8: healthy early in his career. And even this year, he
- 44:55Speaker 8: had some back issues that sidelined him for a while.
- 44:58Speaker 8: But since he's been back, it's been unbelievable what he's
- 45:01Speaker 8: been able to do, just consistency. And for a rotation
- 45:05Speaker 8: that really had a super big need for that type
- 45:09Speaker 8: of consistency, when you talk about Quinn Priester being out
- 45:12Speaker 8: for the year with the shoulder issue, Brandon Woodruff kind
- 45:15Speaker 8: of being in and out of that rotation, not really
- 45:17Speaker 8: being able to be counted upon. Kyle Harrison having that
- 45:21Speaker 8: all-star caliber first half, getting hurt, falling off in the
- 45:25Speaker 8: second half. The Brewers really, really needed a guy to
- 45:28Speaker 8: step in behind Miz and stabilize that rotation, and that
- 45:31Speaker 8: has been Henderson. The last start against the Dodgers, a
- 45:35Speaker 8: little bit shaky, had a couple throwing errors that led
- 45:37Speaker 8: to runs. He knows what he did wrong. He's mature
- 45:41Speaker 8: beyond his years, and I expect him to pitch really
- 45:44Speaker 8: well in the World Series.
- 45:46Speaker 5: Talk about after. Logan Henderson.
- 45:50Speaker 6: Talk about game three and four. One of them probably
- 45:53Speaker 6: should have been pitched by Scooble, but that's not my question.
- 46:01Speaker 6: What's the route that they're going to take because this
- 46:03Speaker 6: team hits differently than, say, the Dodgers did against where
- 46:09Speaker 6: they put Gasser out there, where Robert Gasser got the
- 46:11Speaker 6: start And it's a different look for the Rays team
- 46:16Speaker 6: in the matchups. Where does this team line up three
- 46:18Speaker 6: and four wise in the rotation?
- 46:21Speaker 8: Well, I think Gasser is the clear cut number three.
- 46:24Speaker 8: This guy has really earned it. He's been a wild
- 46:26Speaker 8: card here coming down the stretch. And again, I talked
- 46:29Speaker 8: about Henderson earlier being a guy that stepped up when
- 46:32Speaker 8: the Brewers really needed him to. Gasser fits that bill
- 46:35Speaker 8: and maybe even more so. You know, it's a kid
- 46:37Speaker 8: that's coming off Tommy John a couple years ago. Really
- 46:41Speaker 8: kind of inconsistent, up and down, struggle with command. I
- 46:45Speaker 8: think struggle with confidence, too, quite frankly. And he flipped
- 46:50Speaker 8: the switch. He figured something out. And down the stretch,
- 46:54Speaker 8: he has just been tremendous for the Brewers. And, you know,
- 46:58Speaker 8: look at their postseason stats and go click on the
- 47:01Speaker 8: ERA tab. Number one ERA in the postseason for Brewer
- 47:05Speaker 8: starters has been Robert Gasser, and it's not even close. So,
- 47:10Speaker 8: you know, will he get a super long leash? Probably
- 47:12Speaker 8: not with the bullpen that they have behind him. You know,
- 47:16Speaker 8: that's obviously a factor as well. So I certainly would
- 47:19Speaker 8: expect Yasser to be game three. Game four is the question.
- 47:22Speaker 8: And that's that's, you know, legit that you bring that up.
- 47:25Speaker 8: They could go a number of different ways. You know,
- 47:27Speaker 8: we just learned today Brandon Woodruff is on the World
- 47:30Speaker 8: Series roster. What a cool story, right? How about opening
- 47:33Speaker 8: a game with him and then going to that bullpen,
- 47:35Speaker 8: depending on how you utilize it those first three games?
- 47:39Speaker 8: They have other names, too. Shane Drone is a guy
- 47:42Speaker 8: that's pitched well over the course of the season. You know,
- 47:45Speaker 8: they traded for Dustin May. He has not delivered to
- 47:47Speaker 8: this point, but I know they still like his stuff.
- 47:50Speaker 8: So I think a mix and match game in game
- 47:52Speaker 8: four is probably going to be more likely. But Gasser's
- 47:56Speaker 8: the dude in game three, I think.
- 47:58Speaker 5: We're going to the Miz now.
- 48:00Speaker 6: Obviously, you can't talk about the Brewers without talking about
- 48:03Speaker 6: the Cy Young winner for 2026 in the National League.
- 48:07Speaker 6: Is there some fear? People are like, well, he's tired.
- 48:10Speaker 6: You know, he has never pitched this much. I lean
- 48:13Speaker 6: on the other way. It is now October 23rd, and
- 48:18Speaker 6: he has made four starts in the last calendar month.
- 48:22Speaker 6: Maybe he hasn't pitched enough. Has that been something where...
- 48:27Speaker 6: Because during the season when he had six days rest,
- 48:30Speaker 6: his numbers were actually worse than when he had his
- 48:34Speaker 6: normal four or five days rest.
- 48:37Speaker 8: Yeah, I had an interesting chat with a scout a
- 48:40Speaker 8: couple of days ago and I threw the fatigue thing
- 48:43Speaker 8: out to him. And I also just asked him, like,
- 48:46Speaker 8: what you know, what has he seen? And to him,
- 48:49Speaker 8: it's it's just. What the Brewers have run into the
- 48:53Speaker 8: first two rounds here, the Padres and the Dodgers, have
- 48:55Speaker 8: been just really veteran lineups, guys that have had thousands
- 49:00Speaker 8: of plate appearances and can wait guys out and can
- 49:04Speaker 8: make guys work. And in both of Miz's starts, tremendous
- 49:08Speaker 8: number of foul balls, fouled off, making him work. And
- 49:12Speaker 8: his command has not been great, let's be honest. So
- 49:16Speaker 8: I certainly think he's up to the moment. The fatigue thing,
- 49:19Speaker 8: I think I agree, is out the window. I don't
- 49:21Speaker 8: think it's fatigue either. I think it's just dialing in
- 49:24Speaker 8: the mechanics and doing what works best for him, which
- 49:29Speaker 8: is just hit spot in the zone, throwing that fastball,
- 49:33Speaker 8: trying to blow guys away. I know Brewers fans here
- 49:35Speaker 8: have been driven nuts by William Contreras' insistence on calling
- 49:40Speaker 8: for the cutter more and calling for his secondaries. Fans
- 49:43Speaker 8: think that you can throw 103, 104 every single time
- 49:47Speaker 8: and strike guys out, and Pat Murphy's fond of saying
- 49:50Speaker 8: these guys can time up a jet plane if you
- 49:52Speaker 8: give them enough at-bats and enough looks at it. So
- 49:56Speaker 8: bottom line is I just feel like for the Brewers
- 49:58Speaker 8: to get off to a great start in the World Series,
- 50:01Speaker 8: Miz needs to go six dominant innings, set the tone,
- 50:06Speaker 8: You know, 10 strikeouts. Just get this whole thing off
- 50:09Speaker 8: on the right foot for the Brewers. That's my opinion.
- 50:13Speaker 6: I think, you know, the lack of consistent pinpoint control
- 50:17Speaker 6: that we saw from the Miz all season, in my opinion,
- 50:20Speaker 6: only throwing four starts. The one start was 44 pitches.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Another one was 60-some. I get it. You're trying to
- 50:26Speaker 6: save him, but sometimes you're trying to do something and
- 50:30Speaker 6: it may hurt another area.
- 50:31Speaker 5: One last one on Miz.
- 50:33Speaker 6: I know this is really overstepped or overthinking things, but
- 50:37Speaker 6: the Rays are doing it with Nick Martinez, who has
- 50:39Speaker 6: a little bit of struggles at home. And then Freddie
- 50:42Speaker 6: P is going to get to start at home where
- 50:44Speaker 6: he has more success.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Do you think there's any world, any.
- 50:49Speaker 6: Multiverse where the Miz doesn't make his second start in
- 50:54Speaker 6: Tampa because of the fear of the slipping that he
- 50:57Speaker 6: had in every other road ballpark for the majority of
- 51:01Speaker 6: this season?
- 51:03Speaker 8: That's a good question. And my gut feel tells me
- 51:08Speaker 8: they'll start him down there. But I would also add
- 51:12Speaker 8: that if they do, there's going to be plenty of
- 51:15Speaker 8: conversations before the game about how is this mound manicured?
- 51:20Speaker 8: How are we going to assure that we don't have
- 51:22Speaker 8: these slippage problems that we've had everywhere else? Because, I mean,
- 51:25Speaker 8: let's be honest, he's a unicorn in so many ways.
- 51:28Speaker 8: And that extension that he gets is just unbelievable. And
- 51:32Speaker 8: I don't think it's anything nefarious by any, you know,
- 51:35Speaker 8: any other ballpark grounds crew staff. It's just guys don't,
- 51:40Speaker 8: they don't step out that far other than the Miz. So,
- 51:44Speaker 8: you know, the Brewers are going to do whatever it
- 51:46Speaker 8: takes to win this series. I think that those discussions
- 51:50Speaker 8: will be had. And if they're in a position, you know,
- 51:53Speaker 8: where he lines up there and they feel confident that
- 51:57Speaker 8: that mound is going to be good, let her rip.
- 52:01Speaker 5: There is always nefarious things going on.
- 52:04Speaker 6: They're playing elevator music when they're playing. People wet the
- 52:08Speaker 6: field when faster teams come in.
- 52:11Speaker 5: All that stuff.
- 52:12Speaker 8: I like that elevator music.
- 52:15Speaker 2: They brought their own beat box. Boom box.
- 52:17Speaker 5: You would like that. Last one.
- 52:20Speaker 6: Who's going to throw out game seven? If there's a
- 52:22Speaker 6: game seven, who's going to throw out the first pitch?
- 52:27Speaker 8: Man, that's a good one. That's a really good one.
- 52:30Speaker 8: I'll make a suggestion. How about the guy who did
- 52:34Speaker 8: the Milwaukee Brewers song? Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Brewers. I know
- 52:38Speaker 8: you love that. Get him out there because the fans
- 52:41Speaker 8: love it. The players absolutely love that guy. It's become
- 52:45Speaker 8: the anthem for this team.
- 52:47Speaker 5: Why not?
- 52:48Speaker 6: Will Bill sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game?
- 52:52Speaker 6: Will he sing any of the songs?
- 52:58Speaker 4: He may.
- 52:58Speaker 1: He may.
- 52:59Speaker 8: He may, he may.
- 53:02Speaker 5: Right.
- 53:02Speaker 3: You can have him do the Anthem in whatever way
- 53:05Speaker 3: he wants. And then Kratz has to catch the first
- 53:08Speaker 3: pitch of game seven. He doesn't have to throw it,
- 53:11Speaker 3: but he has to catch it. So I'm just throwing
- 53:12Speaker 3: it out there. We're promoting Eric Kratz for game seven. Uh,
- 53:16Speaker 3: I think Brewers fans hope there's not a game seven
- 53:18Speaker 3: that they win this before that, but we'll see. Um, Todd,
- 53:22Speaker 3: have fun out there. Thanks for joining us. Really appreciate
- 53:25Speaker 3: the insight. And it is a huge day in the
- 53:27Speaker 3: history of the state in sports. So we're following your
- 53:30Speaker 3: coverage in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 53:33Speaker 8: Appreciate you guys. Take care.
- 53:49Speaker 3: Eric Kratz and AJ Pruszynski already submitting theirs. We have
- 53:53Speaker 3: not heard from Todd father yet. Now for those unaware,
- 53:56Speaker 3: Todd father is a pretty good prognosticator. He has had
- 53:59Speaker 3: a very solid track record when it comes to seeing
- 54:03Speaker 3: ahead foreshadowing, if I may. So do this for us.
- 54:08Speaker 2: What do you think is going to happen?
- 54:10Speaker 4: I haven't been the best playoff foreshadower, but I, you
- 54:13Speaker 4: get me in the regular season. I mean, I'll knock
- 54:16Speaker 4: them out of the park for you. Um, Listen, two
- 54:20Speaker 4: really cool hats that Lid's done here. Fantastic. Yeah, this
- 54:26Speaker 4: is going to be a close one. I mean, listen,
- 54:28Speaker 4: the Rays, everybody thought they were out. I thought they
- 54:32Speaker 4: were out once they went to Cleveland. They came back.
- 54:35Speaker 4: Diaz getting hot. Ronda doing okay. He gets going a
- 54:39Speaker 4: little bit. Little power numbers. Caminero coming on strong. And
- 54:43Speaker 4: they got the pitching to do it too as well.
- 54:45Speaker 4: They're not going to be. the team where you're like,
- 54:47Speaker 4: oh man, this is so exciting. They're the team that
- 54:50Speaker 4: just find ways to win. And if they can figure
- 54:52Speaker 4: out a way to get to the bullpen early and
- 54:56Speaker 4: get up a couple runs because they're going to get healthy.
- 54:59Speaker 4: These games might be not as many runs scored, but
- 55:02Speaker 4: if I'm predicting right now, I have done these guys
- 55:08Speaker 4: dirty the last couple rounds. And honestly, oh man, this
- 55:14Speaker 4: is such a hard pick. Everybody's on the Brewers. I
- 55:18Speaker 4: am going to go with Tampa finding a way to
- 55:21Speaker 4: win this World Series.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I am.
- 55:22Speaker 4: I'm going to go on a limb. In seven games,
- 55:25Speaker 4: Tampa Bay will win at Milwaukee and be your eventual
- 55:30Speaker 4: World Series champion.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Wow, he had me fooled there, Kratz.
- 55:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:36Speaker 5: I thought he was going to my college.
- 55:38Speaker 6: I thought he was going to commit to Brewer U,
- 55:42Speaker 6: but nope, he goes to my other college. My other
- 55:45Speaker 6: home team, Tampa.
- 55:47Speaker 5: I didn't see it coming.
- 55:48Speaker 4: You can't go wrong.
- 55:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I can't lose. I mean, that's why I got
- 55:53Speaker 6: both on today. I got the Tampa undershirt and the
- 55:56Speaker 6: Brewers jersey.
- 55:58Speaker 4: You should have hit it. Did you already give your
- 56:00Speaker 4: picks already?
- 56:01Speaker 5: I did.
- 56:02Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 5: I picked the Brewers. I picked the Brewers in six.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Okay, well, here we go.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Well, the Rays are anticipating that it could be a
- 56:12Speaker 3: long series. Freddy Peralta has been I don't know, a
- 56:16Speaker 3: top five starting pitcher in baseball since the beginning of September.
- 56:20Speaker 3: And they need this series to go seven for him
- 56:23Speaker 3: to be on some sort of normal schedule to start
- 56:27Speaker 3: in two games in this one. So I do think
- 56:31Speaker 3: there's one theme, Kratz. It would be hard to see
- 56:33Speaker 3: the Rays winning a short series here. Would you agree
- 56:36Speaker 3: with that? I think we're seeing that theme. And hey,
- 56:39Speaker 3: anything can happen in the sport. I don't think anyone
- 56:41Speaker 3: had the Brewers sweeping the Dodgers. But it's hard to
- 56:44Speaker 3: see the Rays... winning this in four or five games.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Do you agree?
- 56:48Speaker 5: I would agree. I would agree.
- 56:49Speaker 6: And the reason I picked the Brewers is because of.
- 56:55Speaker 6: I think they just came through a tougher gauntlet. I
- 56:58Speaker 6: think they came through there. And so I think the
- 57:01Speaker 6: Rays have been playing well at the end of the series.
- 57:05Speaker 6: I just don't know that they played the same competition
- 57:07Speaker 6: that the Brewers played to get to where they're at.
- 57:11Speaker 4: I think... Freddy Peralta at home, phenomenal. I think they'll
- 57:15Speaker 4: win that game. I think they'll sneak out a game
- 57:18Speaker 4: in Milwaukee. I think they'll win two in Tampa, and
- 57:24Speaker 4: that's where it gets three to two action, and then
- 57:29Speaker 4: all of a sudden, all bets are off there. I
- 57:33Speaker 4: love the crowd there in Tampa, too. Milwaukee is absolutely awesome, too.
- 57:38Speaker 4: They're both really good crowds. And they're both yearning for
- 57:42Speaker 4: a World Series. But I think if they get two
- 57:45Speaker 4: in Tampa with one sneaking out of victory in Milwaukee,
- 57:50Speaker 4: and then they have two chances to win it all,
- 57:52Speaker 4: and then Milwaukee might scramble in Game 6 or Game
- 57:55Speaker 4: 7 to figure out who's pitching, that's where I feel
- 57:59Speaker 4: like the Rays are not afraid of anything, neither in Milwaukee.
- 58:02Speaker 4: But I feel like, as you saw against Cleveland, they
- 58:05Speaker 4: found ways to win games, and Cal Manero is getting hot.
- 58:09Speaker 1: So.
- 58:10Speaker 4: That's why I picked them in seven.
- 58:13Speaker 3: I'm kind of, I mean, I can see that pathway
- 58:16Speaker 3: where the Rays take one game in Milwaukee, right, Kratz?
- 58:20Speaker 3: I mean, is it more likely to be game two?
- 58:23Speaker 3: I guess, given that it's Drew Rasmussen pitching in game
- 58:27Speaker 3: two versus Nick Martinez in game one. I do think
- 58:30Speaker 3: that there's a good upset chance in tonight's game two
- 58:33Speaker 3: in game one. But let's say they take one out
- 58:36Speaker 3: of the two in Milwaukee. And then like Todd Father said,
- 58:40Speaker 3: They take two out of three at home. At that point,
- 58:42Speaker 3: they would have a 3-2 lead heading back to Milwaukee.
- 58:46Speaker 3: Then maybe the Brewers take game six and you have
- 58:49Speaker 3: a game seven with Freddie P pitching in Milwaukee for
- 58:52Speaker 3: a World Series title.
- 58:53Speaker 2: That would be.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Such a good theater.
- 58:57Speaker 4: Get the popcorn ready.
- 59:01Speaker 1: I could see the pathway.
- 59:02Speaker 2: Will it happen?
- 59:05Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 59:06Speaker 4: Maybe not.
- 59:08Speaker 2: I think the Rays aren't getting enough for this year.
- 59:10Speaker 2: I'm with you, Todd.
- 59:11Speaker 3: I don't think they're getting enough respect as an organization.
- 59:14Speaker 3: The Brewers have a better bullpen. The Rays, in my mind,
- 59:17Speaker 3: I feel better about with their starting rotation or with
- 59:20Speaker 3: what they could put together for four games, which is
- 59:23Speaker 3: what you need.
- 59:24Speaker 2: You need a four-man rotation.
- 59:25Speaker 3: You don't need it, but if you have it, it's
- 59:26Speaker 3: a nice luxury. And they have star power. They're not
- 59:30Speaker 3: full of star power, but they have star power. It's
- 59:33Speaker 3: not like the Brewers. The Brewers have a lot of
- 59:35Speaker 3: depth with their lineup, and they definitely have more than
- 59:37Speaker 3: the Rays do. There's some, quote, easier outs at the
- 59:40Speaker 3: bottom of the lineup for Tampa Bay. But those guys
- 59:44Speaker 3: know how to scratch and claw and get on base
- 59:46Speaker 3: a little bit and throw a bunt down and try
- 59:48Speaker 3: and squeak out a run.
- 59:49Speaker 2: To me, that's been the difference.
- 59:51Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 59:53Speaker 3: The analytics crowd, right, for years was like, you can't
- 59:56Speaker 3: bunt ever. There's no scenario where you can bunt. And
- 59:58Speaker 3: I'm going to get into this more in the offseason
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: with Ken because that's the one problem I have here
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: is this isn't about the teams. I'm talking about maybe
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: you want to call it people in the media sometimes
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: that claim like the analytics crowd gets everything now, right?
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: So when teams were three true outcomes, like that's the
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: way to go. Now the Brewers and Rays are doing
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: this and that's the way to go until they claim that.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: And so I'm like, so you claim homers, you claim bunts,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: like what? What is the non-analytics crowd? And again, I'm
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: using this in general terms here. What do they get
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: to claim, right? Because bunts used to be the literal devil.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: I mean, I worked at MLB Network and there were
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: some people that were way nerdier than I was on numbers.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: I was kind of in the middle and they were like,
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: you can never bunt. There's no scenario where bunting works.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: And now we have the top two teams in bunting
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: in the World Series. And they're like, of course, they're
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: looking for the edge. I'm like, okay, so now this
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: is cool?
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: Yeah, my biggest thing, Chandler Simpson, if he gets on base,
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: watch out. And that's what he did the last go about.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: Those line drives to left field, a chopper that they
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: literally had to put in their back pocket. The bunt
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: for a hit, we're running on first and second, no play. Like,
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: they got to be scrappy. And if they're scrappy and
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: they can kind of, you know, hold them within distance,
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: then it could be a really nice showing for Tampa Bay.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: But again, you got to take the crowd out of
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: it right from jump street.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: Tough team to strike out too, Kratz. That's a thing, right?
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: The Miz has struck out the world this year. We
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: talked about how a lot of pitches were fouled off.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: It was a little bit tougher for him to finish
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: off opponents. This is the ultimate opponent in terms of
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: trying to get swing and miss on an at-bat, per-at-bat basis.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: Yes, but I also think it plays into the Brewers'
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: ability to get length out of a lot of guys.
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: Teams that don't strike out don't see a lot of
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: pitches either. So getting deeper into games for the Miz
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: has been an issue. If he can get into the fifth-sixth,
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: if Logan Henderson can get into the fifth-sixth, advantage Brewers.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: I think if the Brewers can get to that, I
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: don't want to say underbelly, but the bottom third of
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: the bullpen... bottom third of the like trusted guys. I
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: think Cam Boozer, I think the two best are Cam
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: Boozer and Baker.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: And I think the.
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: Issue of needing to bring in Ian Seymour, needing to
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: bring in Tyler Wells, I think could end up hurting
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: the Rays. And I think it's going to be the
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: damage of how many times can you go through the
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: heart of the Brewers order to rank Churio Contreras with
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: only two high level guys where the Brewers have about
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: four guys that can go through the heart of the
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: order and your rebate and Ashby, Ashby might go through
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: the heart of the order twice, but McGill. So that's
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: where I think that advantage swings in the Brewers favor.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: I think the rays might get very crafty in this series, especially.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Later on in, who they use.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: I don't know if they'll do it with Rasmussen. Freddie
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: P is definitely going to pitch in between starts if
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: he's in a place to do so and the series
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: is still going. I'm curious to see even how Griffin
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Jacks measures in here, Kratz. I know we're just thinking, oh,
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: he's game four, but maybe he pops up for an
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: inning or two before that. Let's not forget that some
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: teams are able to utilize their starters. Jacks is actually
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: a perfect example because he's bounced around.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: He's done both.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: I think that's one way that the Rays have to
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: overcome that problem if their starters are not giving them
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: the length that they want, right? If Jurasmasen puts together
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: a five-inning start versus a seven-inning start.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: It's fascinating.
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: I love talking about this matchup all day long. And
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: that's Todd Fother's prediction, different from Kratz's prediction. Let us
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: know what you think. And also, Capit is presented by
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Lids with those beautiful, beautiful hats. The postseason headwear and

- 1:04:16Speaker 3: It's happening, baby. We're getting close to game one of
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: the World Series. Roof closed, panels closed. It's going to
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: be an all-indoor World Series. First time ever. Also, yeah,
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: they sold out, what, 31,000 tickets for the watch parties
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: starting games three, four, and five if necessary. So props
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: to the Milwaukee Brewers. And then also it's a perfect
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: little segue reminder to anyone that's not going to be
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: in the park or if you're heading to the park
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: and you want to stop by and say hello to
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: our little crew over at the 90s throwback set at
