- 0:00Speaker 1: We know that the my Darwin vouchers well they went
- 0:02Speaker 1: pretty well last time round. They were snapped up rather quickly,
- 0:06Speaker 1: a little bit longer than what it had taken in
- 0:07Speaker 1: previous rounds. But my Palmeston vouchers as well, they are
- 0:11Speaker 1: currently being utilized in Palmerston going quite strong from what
- 0:15Speaker 1: I can understand, and joining me on the line right
- 0:18Speaker 1: now to talk further about it. Give us a bit
- 0:20Speaker 1: of an update. Is the Deputy Mayor Sarah Henderson. Good
- 0:23Speaker 1: morning to you, Sarah.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Good morning Katie. How are you really well?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Lovely to have you on the show, Sarah. How are
- 0:30Speaker 1: those my Palmeston vouchers tracking?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Oh, they're tracking very well. They're very popular in Palmerston.
- 0:38Speaker 2: We're doing wonderfully. We started off with six hundred thousand
- 0:41Speaker 2: and we've still got five hundred thousand dollars available.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Okay, so I've gone through about one hundred thousand dollars
- 0:48Speaker 1: worth at this point.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Just at this point, and the first week we had
- 0:54Speaker 2: so many people registered. We only started on the thirty
- 0:57Speaker 2: first of March, so they've done very well. At first
- 1:00Speaker 2: week everybody redeemed about sixty thousand dollars worth, so they're
- 1:07Speaker 2: tracking along very well, they're so far these eighty businesses registered. Yeah, right,
- 1:12Speaker 2: they're very popular.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And what kind of businesses do we know, Sarah? Which
- 1:17Speaker 1: ones have been the most popular or you know which
- 1:20Speaker 1: industries I guess you might say have been the most
- 1:22Speaker 1: popular for utilizing those vouchers? Yet is it retail, is
- 1:25Speaker 1: at restaurants or is there not a real clear idea
- 1:28Speaker 1: at this stage?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Oh? Well, so far the retail has done thirty two percent,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and the food industry has done about twenty seven percent.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The health and beauty and entertainment, Oh, it goes quite high,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and that's for still tracking about eighteen percent. So yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 2: they're very popular.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And what are business is saying to you at the moment, Sarah?
- 1:52Speaker 1: Are they Are they quite happy with the utilization of
- 1:55Speaker 1: the vouchers? Do they feel as though it's making a
- 1:57Speaker 1: bit of an impact in terms of more people getting
- 1:59Speaker 1: out there and spending in Palmerston.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Oh? Yes, the comments have been very good and it
- 2:07Speaker 2: just brings the money back into our local economy and
- 2:10Speaker 2: our local businesses, which is so important. So it's really
- 2:15Speaker 2: great to see people shopping back in Palmerston again.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And that's what it's all about, isn't it. Making sure
- 2:20Speaker 1: that people do get out and about there. We know
- 2:22Speaker 1: that we've had a couple of really tough years, not
- 2:25Speaker 1: only in retail but in the hospitality sector, in every sector.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I think you'd have to say due to COVID. So
- 2:32Speaker 1: I think that everybody is hoping that you know that
- 2:34Speaker 1: we see some of our local businesses do quite well.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yes, yes, the local businesses are very happy with it.
- 2:42Speaker 2: We've got to look after our locals. It's so important
- 2:44Speaker 2: for our economy, it.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Really is so Sarah. It sounds as I we'll still
- 2:50Speaker 1: have a little bit of money to get through and
- 2:53Speaker 1: a few more well, it's hard to know. I guess
- 2:55Speaker 1: how many days, but how many weeks, but hopefully a
- 2:58Speaker 1: bit more spending out they're in those businesses.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Oh, definitely, I think it will continue. The registrations are
- 3:06Speaker 2: still open, so if people haven't downloaded the app, they
- 3:10Speaker 2: can go to the Mypalmersan dot MG dot gov dot
- 3:14Speaker 2: au website and join, and of course if there's any
- 3:18Speaker 2: businesses that still want to join, they're quite able to
- 3:21Speaker 2: do so well.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Sarah Henderson, the Deputy Mayor of Palmerston, we appreciate your
- 3:26Speaker 1: time this morning and giving us a bit of an
- 3:28Speaker 1: update
