- 0:08The Pacific Cyclone Polo has now become a major
- 0:11hurricane. It is expected to land in Mexico's
- 0:14Guerrero State and stay until Thursday. Rainfall
- 0:17is expected to exceed 5 inches. In recent years,
- 0:21Mexico's Pacific coast has seen an increase in
- 0:23hurricane landfalls. Farther out in the ocean,
- 0:27Tropical Storm Nolo is expected to become a hurricane
- 0:29by Thursday night. Currently, it is churning
- 0:32roughly 300 miles south of Hawaii and is expected
- 0:35to approach the state's largest island by Friday.
- 0:40CalMatters reports that a new law signed on Sunday
- 0:42will tighten building rules for sites that store
- 0:45explosive chemicals. The law came into effect
- 0:48after an incident in Orange County in May of
- 0:50this year, which forced thousands of residents
- 0:52to temporarily evacuate. The original law did
- 0:56not have rules against the release of the specific
- 0:58chemical that was at the center of the accidental
- 1:00release. Experts say that had the chemical exploded,
- 1:04it might have been the greatest catastrophe in
- 1:07California within the last several decades. And
- 1:10in Oregon, the Willamette Week states that an
- 1:13investigation into Oregon Health and Science
- 1:15University showed that the former CEO was fired
- 1:18only after three months on the job. A lengthy
- 1:21report showed that Turek Soloway engaged in hostile
- 1:25and unprofessional conduct, according to multiple
- 1:28senior leaders and a frontline clinical traveler.
- 1:31The investigation, however, did not substantiate
- 1:34claims that Soloway had breached confidentiality
- 1:36when talking to a travel worker about a sensitive
- 1:39legal matter. That was your KPCR News Update.
