- 3:36Podcast where I am your host, Trevita Harris. Tonight, my guest is
- 3:40business Check and we're going to talk about her acronym set successful educated Trillionaires.
- 3:50However, I'm not quite sure if she's made it just yet, but anyway,
- 3:53we'll still talk about what we need to talk about. But before we
- 3:57do anything, we have to go to God in prayer. Their Heavenly Father,
- 4:00thank you for bringing us together in this space, giving us the opportunity
- 4:03to spread your graciousness and your love and coverage over us each and every day,
- 4:11to be able to do what you have called us to do, even
- 4:14though some days we may fall short, but as long as we stay obedient
- 4:16to everything that you've called us to do and deliver the message to the people
- 4:20that are in need of hearing what it is that we have to say.
- 4:25It is your will that we must follow, and your precious and holy name
- 4:30Jesus, we pray Amen. Let's see. I don't know what's saying in
- 4:35the chat, but anyway, if she's here, I'll go ahead and bring
- 4:42her up. If not, I'm just going to tell you a little bit
- 4:45about what I was doing this weekend. Hey girl, I am good.
- 4:50How about you? Am pretty good? I'm blessed glad to be here.
- 4:56Yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'am. Now listen, go over your bio
- 5:00that you sent me. You know that it was a lot, and so
- 5:04I had to try to down, you know, with single mom of you
- 5:10know, you were determined not to allow any of the challenges that you were
- 5:14hasten to deter you from doing what you needed to do. So with that
- 5:18being said, you started your very first journey in entrepreneurship with arrows of artistry,
- 5:27and with that became a very demanding what time, adjusting your schedule to
- 5:31be able to still be a mom, to also be able to run a
- 5:35business, and to do all of those things at one time. And so
- 5:41when you made the adjustments, you came up with the acronym of SET,
- 5:45which it stands for successful educated turionaires. So with that you can go ahead
- 5:53and continue on with your own personal introduction of who you are and what you
- 5:58stand for. Awesome, awesome, So yeah, you are absolutely right.
- 6:05I want to start off by saying that, in addition to that what my
- 6:11company does, we offer a lot of business to business services, so for
- 6:15so for business owners that are in need of like grants, or if you're
- 6:19in need of global advertising, if you're in need of you know, you're
- 6:24you like to be a vendor at any of our upcoming events. I am
- 6:28doing a tour expo where I'll be going to different states having different events,
- 6:33and business owners are more than welcome to participate. Outside and outside of that,
- 6:40I'm pretty much just you know, the average you know, the average
- 6:44person who you know pretty much came from a rough neighborhood who's just trying to
- 6:48make it out here in this world. So that's pretty much who I am.
- 6:54Well, listen, I won't even say that that is just all of
- 6:58who you are, because there's a it goes into you and I knowing a
- 7:02single mom that's a challenging itself, and being able to raise children and continue
- 7:09on with all of that other stuff and not letting any of that deter you
- 7:14because it can be very frustrated, and it can be very overwhelming, and
- 7:17you you have those moments where you have to step aside and go and cry
- 7:21about it, pull yourself together and keep going. And so one of the
- 7:26other things that I want to ask is when you decided to make that decision
- 7:31to go to college, what was that like. When I made the decision
- 7:39to go to college, it was okay. So first and foremost, it
- 7:43was really when I grew up. I grew up in a family where it
- 7:47was like you had to be somebody, you know, you you couldn't just
- 7:54be nobody pretty much. And with having that mindset always, you know,
- 8:01had to go like above and beyond and be the best that I can be.
- 8:07So when I graduated from well, when I came close to graduating from
- 8:13high school, I'm talking about days away from graduation, uh, is when
- 8:18I found out I was pregnant. And at that moment, that was something
- 8:24that my family wasn't really you know, for with me being the age that
- 8:30I was. But even before I want to I want to add this too,
- 8:35because I'm I'm I'm like thinking about my whole life right now as we
- 8:39speak it. Lord girl, but I you know I'm trying to. I
- 8:54tried to be like straight to the point too at the same time, because
- 8:56I know I could get real deep and throwed with everything. So pretty much
- 9:05like when I before I even got into college, I was already when I
- 9:09was in high school, I was already on the path of gaining college credits,
- 9:16accumulating college credits while and I think I was in my I think it
- 9:22was like my junior year of high school when I started doing like the it
- 9:26was like a bridge program. So I was getting college credits while still in
- 9:31high school. So when I got into actual college, it was a breeze
- 9:35for me. Like I you know, I just went in and I just
- 9:39knew, okay, I want to be At the time, I wanted to
- 9:43be in a medical field. Yeah, but you know I changed my mind
- 9:50eventually. But college was a breeze. Like in my first year of college,
- 9:58I actually well I had a lot of I had a lot of ups
- 10:03to it because I got into this class. I can't even remember what the
- 10:07name of the class was, but it was something. It was something in
- 10:13regards to uh, some sort of arts. I know, I had gotten
- 10:16this p this uh contest thing where we had to submit either a form of
- 10:24It was like, you know, you had to be creative, either a
- 10:26form of writing, like writing something or drawing something. It was like an
- 10:30art arts contest. So I got into that contest. I really loved to
- 10:37write. I really loved to write poetry. And when I got into it,
- 10:41it's like I won't first place, astonishingly, astonishedly, And it was
- 10:48a monthst I think like five hundred other contestants or something. But you know,
- 10:54it was a lot of contestants who submitted their pieces of art, their
- 10:58poetry or their right and drawning. But I was amazed that my poem.
- 11:05I submitted a poem actually and a drawn I ain't know how to draw well,
- 11:09but I took anyway. I said, you know what I'm gonna answer,
- 11:16I can answer two forms an artists, so you know what, I
- 11:18would go for it, And that's what I did. I drew some little
- 11:20sketches. It was stick people on that girl, and I created the whole
- 11:24little storyboard. And that didn't make it, but my poem did it.
- 11:30And I want money from that too. So that was my first year of
- 11:33college. But I feel like what really, you know, made me want
- 11:39to go to college. Is the fact that I always wanted to be somebody,
- 11:43so that the goal. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do.
- 11:48Well, I thought I had no knew exactly what I wanted to do,
- 11:50but you know, it was I didn't figure that out until like when
- 11:54I came close to graduate from college. Before I received my degree, is
- 11:58when I trapped into what it is that I really want to do? What
- 12:03do I have a passion for? But yeah, that was that was my
- 12:07purpose. I wasn't gonna give up. And for the fact that I got
- 12:09kids too, or had, you know, having a son at that time,
- 12:15it really pushed me to really make something happen with myself. Okay,
- 12:20well I can't understand that the team. You had my daughter at seventeen,
- 12:26and that was one of the things that it was like, Okay, I
- 12:28had her at seventeen, A lot of things I had to put on the
- 12:33back burner, and I got married. By the time I was twenty one,
- 12:37I had two kids. Me and my as husband now had two kids,
- 12:41and it was like, okay, well going to college just right now
- 12:46is not the thing. So I didn't actually go to college until my daughter
- 12:50had finished her freshman year in college, and then I went to college and
- 12:56I graduated shortly before she did, which was crazy. And it's one of
- 13:03those things that you know, you have kids and they look up to you,
- 13:07they look at what you're going through, and so I always wanted to
- 13:09be the example for my kids. Regardless of what you're going through. You
- 13:15don't want to give them the excuses that you can just be complacent. And
- 13:18I remember a conversation I was having with my kids. I don't know what
- 13:24they were doing, but whatever they were doing, I was like, Okay,
- 13:26let me just ask y'all a question. Do you want to be just
- 13:31average or do you want to super succeed what you see within yourself? I
- 13:35said, because I can give you all of that, all of the inspiration,
- 13:41all of whatever. I can tell you how good you are because of
- 13:43what I see within you, but it takes you to bring that out.
- 13:48So what do you want to do? You want to be average or you
- 13:50want to be the best at whatever it is that you're doing. And they
- 13:52were like, well, I'm going to be the best at whatever it is
- 13:54I'm doing. I said, okay, then you have to actually start making
- 13:58those steps to be the best that whatever it is you can do. And
- 14:03you know, there have been many times where I was like, you know
- 14:07what, maybe I'm overstepping my own space because it's I got a lot of
- 14:13stuff on my plate now. I don't know if I really want to do
- 14:16all of this. So let me take a step back and my kids and
- 14:18be like, naw, you know how to do this, so go ahead
- 14:20and do this. As a matter of fact, I just got back from
- 14:24Atlanta yesterday at a conference, and I was talking to my youngest son last
- 14:30night, and I was telling him about the journey that I started when I
- 14:35started my publishing business and how I had absolutely no clue on what I was
- 14:41doing. It was a vision that my boyfriend had for me in a situation
- 14:46where I had the vision, but my vision had a timeline was five years
- 14:52from when we originally talked about it, and so when he was talking about
- 14:56it, he was like, no, we're going to start this now,
- 14:58and I was like, sir, I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to
- 15:03do that. And as I was talking to my son last night, he
- 15:05was like, I have never known you to not figure it out, and
- 15:09so he was like, when you started this, I knew you would figure
- 15:13out what to do. And I was like, you kind of got a
- 15:18point, because I have anything that I have been faced with, even the
- 15:24stroke, the kiari, all of those different diagnoses, changing you know,
- 15:28how I lived my life. It was one of those things where it was
- 15:31like, Okay, I made the adjustment. My new normal is dealing with
- 15:37pain on a daily basis and being able to maneuver with the level of pain
- 15:43that I'm in most days. You would not believe. But my son said,
- 15:46so, I don't even know why you even doubted yourself in that moment.
- 15:50So have you ever had a time or space where you doubted what you
- 15:56were doing? Because being an entrepreneur, there are those moments where you're like,
- 16:00I don't think this is gonna work. Have you had many of those
- 16:03moments like oh yeah, I my goodness, you got me girl. Listen,
- 16:12I would say, I would say this my I would say my most
- 16:18doubtful moments were when I tried to and I hope don't know one take offense
- 16:25to this, but I like to speak exactly what's on my mind, and
- 16:30every you know, everybody know me of doing just that. So my most
- 16:36doubtful moment is when I decided to do like different partnerships with people or even
- 16:44like try to work with different people and as an entrepreneur, and I had
- 16:51to realize and I just realized this actually a few weeks ago. You know,
- 16:56your journey is for you. You may not be able to take no
- 17:02one down that journey of you're headed. You know what I'm saying. Your
- 17:07path is meant for you, your vision is meant for you, and other
- 17:11people may not understand that. So with that being said, I had to
- 17:17like self reflect and I had to cause I have been trying this whole partnership
- 17:22thing, collaboration thing a couple of times now a few times, and it
- 17:27seems like it just don't work out. And I had to really you know,
- 17:32figure out. Okay, I think I had to really tap into and
- 17:37understand what it is that I'm good at. And I know what I'm good
- 17:41at. And it's like I'm telling myself, you know, I've accomplished so
- 17:45much being who I am, doing what I do because I know what I
- 17:52want for myself. I know what I want for my business. So with
- 17:56that being said, I really don't need no one, but God, I
- 18:00don't need no one but God to accomplish everything that I want. So,
- 18:06you know, so with that being said, I really feel like that was
- 18:12That's like what that was my main challenge. Now there has been times to
- 18:18when I'm doing different things and it just you know, it's like, Okay,
- 18:22this is not working. I ran into those experiences too. But when
- 18:26I run into those experiences, it's like, Okay, well let me try
- 18:30it a different way, you know. And I kind of that whole you
- 18:33know, I'm gonna test this out, see what happens. I'm gonna do
- 18:37this, you know, I'm I'm gonna switch it up a little bit and
- 18:40see if this, you know, get more attractional see if people feeling this
- 18:42more. So it's like with that, I know how to maneuver. But
- 18:48I think my biggest challenge honestly was it's finding the right people to work with
- 18:56and to track, you know, to try to build because I'll see my
- 19:00up as I'm global, I'm I don't have a local mindset, you know.
- 19:07I don't want to be just that person that's known, you know,
- 19:11not even known. I just I don't want my business to only be known
- 19:17in it. Yeah, I want the whole world to know but then also
- 19:26not only that I want you know, of course I want their support.
- 19:30Of course I want their you know, I want them to come and shock
- 19:33with me and be a client of minds and all of that. I want
- 19:37to provide that ultimate service from my business as well. So it's not just
- 19:41being known, but actually providing exactly what that customer want, what that customer
- 19:48needs, and just pretty much overall being a great service to my customers.
- 19:52So that's yeah. So but other than that, like I really, it's
- 19:59just I don't know. Oh I'm not. I know a lot of people
- 20:03think that I may be like a people person, but I'm not really awful
- 20:11exactly what you're saying. I don't consider my black I commit to mingle in
- 20:18the space that I'm in. You know, I can you know, meet
- 20:21people where they are. Most of the time, it's like, okay,
- 20:25you on this and I can't really dig with this. But you're right.
- 20:29You can't work with everybody. And that's one of the things that I've had
- 20:32to learn and understand. And people will come to you all kinds of ways,
- 20:37and when I say all kinds of ways, and they want to talk
- 20:40to you this kind of way because they feel like, you know, we
- 20:42the same skin color, and we gonna no. First off, let me
- 20:47go ahead and tell you no, that's absolutely not the case. We're not
- 20:51going to do that. And you're not gonna play me down because you feel
- 20:53like we the same color and you can downplay what I'm doing. That's a
- 20:57no right there. And I'm not going to deal with you and your attitude
- 21:02or your thing that I owe you something, because nobody owes anybody anything.
- 21:06Whatever you want, you gotta work hard to get it. And people that
- 21:10say, well, how that little business or yours is doing, you know
- 21:14what, me and my little business is gonna go over here and mind our
- 21:17business like we were doing it. And I'm gonna let you go hard and
- 21:18sit over here on the sideline and spectate because you're not doing anything that's gonna
- 21:22change your life. So I'm gonna let you and your little mindset sit over
- 21:26there in the corner and continue to watch me build what I'm doing. So
- 21:30I've had to learn that, and I've had to learn how to separate my
- 21:36emotions from my business, you know, because sometimes you get too emotional that
- 21:41you don't think clearly about what it is that you have to do because I
- 21:45know for me personally, there have been moments whereas like, Okay, look
- 21:49here, God, I don't know what it is that you keep trying to
- 21:52get me to do, but I don't know if I'm doing it right.
- 21:56Because let me tell you about my experience going to Atlanta. Now, overall,
- 22:00the experience itself was absolutely wonderful, the speakers, all of that was
- 22:06just absolutely great. But let me tell you. I left here at Spartanburg.
- 22:11It's only two and a half hours from here to Atlanta. So I
- 22:15get down there and plenty enough time to get there early. The event started
- 22:19at nine o'clock. Well, how about I get literally five minutes from my
- 22:25destination. My GPS goes out and every time I get close, it gives
- 22:32me a street behind the street that I'm actually supposed to be on. So
- 22:37it was a delay in the time. So if I'm right here where it
- 22:40tells me, it goes out again. So I spent thirty minutes driving in
- 22:45a circle because it kept sending me around. I asked two officers to get
- 22:52me where I needed to go. They had absolutely no clue on to tell
- 22:56me where it is I needed to be. So when I finally got got
- 23:02in there, parked my car, did my parking, did all of that.
- 23:06Find out that they had booted my car because I was parked over the
- 23:12line, so I had to pay to get the boot off my car.
- 23:17So I missed about thirty minutes. Like the first I missed the first thirty
- 23:22minutes before we went to lunch. I missed done now the thirty minutes waiting
- 23:26on this guy to come and unboot my car. So I'm standing in the
- 23:30parking lot. I don't call my son, I don't call my aunt who
- 23:33lives in Atlanta. I am so irritated and frustrated to the whole point.
- 23:37I'm like, man, maybe I shouldn't have even come. And this is
- 23:41just too much all at once. And I'm like, I don't even know
- 23:45if I want to do the second day at this point, because all of
- 23:48this is happening all at one time. And so my son, my youngest
- 23:52son, y'all, he is my logical thinker, and he does not think
- 23:56with emotion at all. He's like, Mom, don't say it, because
- 24:00you're where you're supposed to be. And I was like, I don't know,
- 24:02I don't know. I just it's just too much right now. And
- 24:04then it was hot outside while I was waiting for the guy. But anyway,
- 24:07I called my aunt and she was like, well, what is the
- 24:10conference about? And I was like, it's called Ignite for Profits. It's
- 24:14a book for profits club and so they had their event in Atlanta, so
- 24:18and she was like, well, that's what you do. So you're supposed
- 24:21to be right there. And she was like, you know, the devil
- 24:22will attack what it is that you're trying to do when you're on the path
- 24:26to doing exactly what it is that you need to be doing. And I
- 24:30was like, yeah, Auntie, I know, I'm still frustrated. I'm
- 24:33crying. And I was like, I don't know, I don't know if
- 24:34I'm coming back tomorrow. But I cried. I cried my little moment.
- 24:41I got myself together and I went back in. And when I tell you,
- 24:44going back in really let me know that I was in the right space
- 24:48at the right time, and everything worked out according to what I needed to
- 24:55be doing. And so I was just like, you know what, I
- 24:57had my moment, the frustration of it all, it did not stop me
- 25:03from getting what I came there to get to receive the messages from the speakers,
- 25:07the just all of that, everybody being like minded individuals was so powerful,
- 25:15so inspirational because it's like all of us have had these challenges that we've
- 25:18had to overcome, and so speaking with all of these women and then the
- 25:22gentlemens that were speaking, when I tell you the information and the encouragement and
- 25:29the words of you know, mindset over feelings is what gets you to be
- 25:34successful. And a lot of times we can't get our mindset together but to
- 25:41actually go after what it is that we want to do. I made a
- 25:44video, I think last week, and it talks about three different types of
- 25:48people and those are your supporters, your fans, and the spectators. And
- 25:55the supporters are the people that are going to be there with you no matter
- 25:57what you're good, you're bad, you're different, if you don't know what
- 26:02you're doing, they still going to be there to support you through thick and
- 26:04thin. You have your fans who are only supportive of you as long as
- 26:10you're doing everything that they want you to do. The instant you do something
- 26:14that they don't like, they gone on to somebody else. Now, your
- 26:17spectators are the ones that sit on the sideline and talk about what it is
- 26:21that you're doing, but never have the guts, are the courage to actually
- 26:23do what it is that you're doing. So make sure that when you're in
- 26:26the space, make sure that you have like minded individuals that are around you
- 26:32so that you know, Okay, look here, this is what I'm doing
- 26:34over here. Okay, well how can I help you get to where it
- 26:37is that you need to do? So doing all of that, you talked
- 26:42about how you've tried to partner with people and those things didn't work out.
- 26:47Are you a firm believer in you know, knowing that if God didn't send
- 26:52them to you, they're not supposed for you to be working with. Or
- 26:55do you try to over extend to try to get work? Do you do
- 27:00that I do? And I'm gonna give you a prime example, because like
- 27:07when I had my first group of people that I was trying to work with,
- 27:11I was like, Okay, you know, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
- 27:15Maybe you know I have to try a different approach. And I've tried
- 27:19that different approach, and like I so I never really just say Okay,
- 27:27we're gonna do this, it's not working out, I'm done. I always
- 27:32try to understand exactly. You know, the people that I'm working with trying
- 27:38to figure out what they're figure out, like what people were good at,
- 27:42try to put them in certain you know, certain positions to where Okay,
- 27:48I know I can work with you here because you're really good at this.
- 27:51And so I've tried to do different, try different, many different techniques,
- 27:56and it just because if you try to help them see what it is that
- 28:07you see within them and they don't see it. One thing that I can
- 28:12say about me is I stop trying to force what I see in them.
- 28:19And it's like, Okay, I'm a good person at given a second chance,
- 28:25but you don't get a third one. You know that That's one thing
- 28:27that I've learned. I will give you two chances after that. It's like,
- 28:32you know, because I'm only going to ask you twice after that.
- 28:34You know. It's like because sometimes I know people don't quite understand, and
- 28:37I'm big on asking questions for clarification. So if you can't ask me a
- 28:44question and assume that I know what it is that you're thinking, because I
- 28:47don't. So if I'm asking you multiple questions about some it's because I clearly
- 28:51don't understand. But then you got people that you've been trying to work with
- 28:55and you be like, Okay, look here, I know you're good at
- 28:56this right here, so this is all I want you to do. I
- 28:59want you to do nothing else. But then they have seventeen different excuses as
- 29:03to why they can't apply themselves here, and then I'd be like, what
- 29:07we're going on? Like, this is what you told me you were absolutely
- 29:14good at, so this is what I gave you, So now you don't
- 29:17want to do that. So it brings me back to the mindset of people
- 29:21that they say, Okay, well I'm ready to do this, I'm ready
- 29:25to take it. I'm ready to go all in, and they don't.
- 29:29They really don't. So how many entrepreneurs have you worked with that you've watched
- 29:34grow from that little bitty seed of being planted with the information that you shared
- 29:41with them to actually being successful? Because I know you've worked with a lot
- 29:45of people and you've watched them grow. And how has that been to watch
- 29:51your I can say your little pupils expand into the people and the vision that
- 29:56you saw for them. How has that been? I love that you answer
- 30:00that question, I mean asked me that question. I said, answered,
- 30:03I love that you asked me that question. So I would say knowingly,
- 30:10like I know of a good two people that I work with who actually came
- 30:15and told me how much of an impact? Well, I no, three,
- 30:19I'm sorry, I'll change that. Three people that actually told me that
- 30:26you know, I inspired him. But and you know, and they really
- 30:30have grown from like the moment from when I met them up until now,
- 30:34like even if they you know, one person one god, No, he
- 30:38was. He started out as a person who did like the few snacks and
- 30:45stuff like that. And I had came across him on event Bright and I
- 30:49actually have a testimonial from him on my group page. And he started out,
- 30:56you know, with selling that, and then he went from selling that
- 31:00to he integrated like Payne cream and stuff like that. And then from there
- 31:07he said, you know what I think, I'm push my photography and so
- 31:12he started taking pictures. He even came out to my store when I had
- 31:17got my store in the water Tower downtown in Chicago. He came out and
- 31:21took pictures, did a whole video of my store for the grand opening,
- 31:26and and then like from there he went he just blossomed like he went to
- 31:33Paris, he took pictures out there in Paris. He just did New York
- 31:37Fashion Week, he did Miami something like Miami Fashion Show thing or something like
- 31:44that. So I am so proud of him and everything that he's doing.
- 31:49And by the way, his name is Sky Kimmins. So if you guys,
- 31:55you know, want to connect with him, he's a really great photographer.
- 31:57But he tells me all the time, like a lot of even from
- 32:01the beginning when he was doing his you know, his uh he called his
- 32:06infusions. That was the name of his business. When he was doing that
- 32:09part of his you know business, he told me, like, you know,
- 32:15I learned a lot from you at the event that he participated in with
- 32:19me on how to make itself more marketable, how to sell when it comes
- 32:23to these different defenses he's participating in. So I was just, you know,
- 32:29I'm like, okay, cool, But you know, and even from
- 32:32there, he still tells me to this day that he learned a lot from
- 32:37me. And you know, if it wasn't for me, probably wasn't it,
- 32:39you know, wouldn't be where he's at right now. So it's just,
- 32:45you know, it feels good because I really don't. I really didn't
- 32:47know the impact that I had on people up until you know, when people
- 32:52started coming to me and telling me like, hey, you know you inspired
- 32:57me to do this, or you know, I really love you know how
- 33:00you taught me how to you know, market my business, or you know.
- 33:05I really love to hear that from people, because if I don't hear
- 33:07it, then I I probably will never know. But another another person,
- 33:14and this is the this is here's the twist. So another person that I
- 33:19watched grow from a seed is a young lady that I had partner with in
- 33:24the beginning. Now you know what I just said about partnerships, so with
- 33:30me and said we started when I started set. It was me and her
- 33:36that started. But I just saw it like, you know, okay,
- 33:40I don't feel like she's really you know, into this like I am.
- 33:45I'm really giving this my own. And as time progressed, I had eventually
- 33:52you know, you know what, this is not working now. I think
- 33:55we should you know, go our separate ways. And and that that was
- 34:01that she wasn't happy happy about it. She was like completely upset and it
- 34:08was a lot of words that's changed. I won't get off into that part,
- 34:12but it was a lot you know, it was a lot of static
- 34:15for me saying that, and for me, you know, wanted to just
- 34:19go solo. But I will say this, when I met her, she
- 34:23didn't have a business. She didn't even have you know, into her mind
- 34:28that she wanted to start a business. She was more so just the working
- 34:32you know, she was working for the city, and I think she was
- 34:36okay with doing just that. But every since I you know, gave her
- 34:42the idea of saying, hey, we should do a business together, we
- 34:45should partner together and do something, and I gave her, you know,
- 34:50my ideas on how I want to go about starting this business. When she
- 34:53jumped on board, she wasn't, I feel like, you know, really
- 34:58busy, busy, business savvy. But after the partnership ended, she went
- 35:06ahead and got her own store and it was in the same location of where
- 35:12I first opened up my first store. And she did her thing like she
- 35:16opened up her own store and everything, and I feel like it was kind
- 35:20of a way of getting back at me. But ultimately it's how I looked
- 35:25at it too, was she would have never done any of that if it
- 35:30wasn't for me, you know, what I'm saying. If it wasn't for
- 35:32me getting her on that path of hey, let's go into business together,
- 35:37let's do this, she would have never probably even thought to start that.
- 35:40So sometimes I feel like things have like an ironic twist. But the end
- 35:45of the day, I'm glad that I was still able to, you know,
- 35:50like help her get to where she wanted to go or where she wanted
- 35:53to be, and she actually did something, you know, that she should
- 35:59be proud of for herself. So yeah, yeah, that's one of these
- 36:05things. You see them and you see the potential and then never reach my
- 36:12thing. When I see something, you hear stuff like that happens, I
- 36:15feel like they have other people that are in their ears and that gets them
- 36:20to try to say, well, girl, you know you probably need to
- 36:22do that by yourself. You don't even need to do that with her,
- 36:24because she's done. She doesn't have your best interest at heart. I feel
- 36:28like it's always those outside people that tend to want to separate versus collaborate.
- 36:37And when you see that or since that or whatever, it's like, you
- 36:39know what, I'm gonna let you go on over there. I ain't gonna
- 36:44bother you but if you always, if you need somebody to talk to Vinu
- 36:47or whatever, I'm still gonna be here for you to do that. But
- 36:52I see how you moving and I just don't want to move that way,
- 36:53So I'm gonna separate myself. There's no hard feelings, there's no animosity.
- 36:59I take what I take from it. You take what you take from it.
- 37:01You need it, go ahead, But at the end of the day,
- 37:05you're always if you keep God first, that's number one. If you
- 37:07keep God first and keep Him included and everything that you're doing, you're never
- 37:12going to be without what it is that you need. And something I learned
- 37:16at the conference yesterday, and that is nothing happens to you, it happens
- 37:22for you. So everything that you've gone through, no matter if it's a
- 37:28health issue, losing a job, whatever, some of those things that happen
- 37:34in our lives are destined to push us outside of where we've been so complacent
- 37:38and comfortable. But we don't want that push. We don't want that challenge,
- 37:44We don't want any of that, so we pushed back and we like,
- 37:47man, I just just keep happening to me. I don't know what
- 37:51I'm supposed to do. You know, you start breaking down and everything and
- 37:54it's like nothing has happened to you that you can overcome unless you just don't
- 38:01want to overcome it. You know, There's been multiple things that I've been
- 38:06through in my life personally where it's like, God, I don't know what
- 38:09it is that you you want me to learn from this, but why I
- 38:13got to be the strongest soldier at this moment because right now I don't see
- 38:16it, but you keep putting it right here. So it's like, Okay,
- 38:21I got there's a lesson in this and I need to learn. I
- 38:23don't won't do this, but you know, has there been some moments where
- 38:30you like, God, look here, you putting a whole bunch of weight
- 38:32on my shoulders and I don't know what I'm supposed to carry out of this,
- 38:37and I don't know where you're about to take me, but this weight
- 38:39right here is heavy. So help me to adjust to what you got on
- 38:44me. Have you felt those kind of moments? Oh? Yes, I
- 38:49have. Definitely I have those moments, I would say, and you know
- 38:54what, like they say never and well I can't remember that Zach burdon of
- 39:01it, but they I think it goes like, you know, when you
- 39:07asked for ask God for certain stuff and he gives it to you, you
- 39:12gotta know how to handle it, you know what I'm saying. So like
- 39:15when I had my very first expos you know, I was like, man,
- 39:22I really hope this goes well. And it was going well, like
- 39:25I had a lot of vendors sign up. It was a lot of people
- 39:28that came out, and I started to feel kind of, I guess you
- 39:35could say, kind of nervous and scared in a way because at the last
- 39:40minute, like a month prior to the day of the event starting, I
- 39:45had to switch locations because originally it was supposed to be at Prairie State College,
- 39:52and I was doing a lot of sharing on Facebook tagging them and I
- 39:57guess what they were seeing or I don't know, maybe you know the music.
- 40:01And one girl she was you know, she's sold like sex toys and
- 40:06stuff like that. So they was like, oh no, we didn't think
- 40:08that, you know, people were gonna be selling stuff, And I said,
- 40:13I don't. I don't understand because I was referred to you by someone
- 40:19who actually had a couple of events here already, who sow you know,
- 40:22and their vendors sold stuff at these events, so you know, I feel
- 40:29like that was one of those roadblocks. But I kept on pushing, you
- 40:34know, and I said, you know, I'm gonna figure out a way
- 40:36to maneuver arounds, which I did, and you know, my events,
- 40:40my event was still in a success. But I will say there's been times
- 40:46where I felt like overwhelmed when it comes to I guess, because I guess
- 40:52life in general. There's been times when, like, for example, what
- 41:00I live at now, it's like I when I had when I had my
- 41:04car, I kept receiving parking tickets and I'm like, why am I always
- 41:10It's like it was it just became a normal thing. Like I come out,
- 41:15I see a ticket on my car, and I'm new to I'm kind
- 41:19of like, I only been here in this area for two years now,
- 41:22but I'm kind of moved to the area. And then I just got you
- 41:24know, my I had just got my car, like recently. But it's
- 41:30like I kept seeing parking tickets and it's like, okay, it's always,
- 41:35you know, and over where I live at it's so packed and crowded,
- 41:38so you literally have to, you know, find somewhere to park. But
- 41:43then they got all these little signs of saying, oh, you can't park
- 41:45in park or whatever. So that was one of those moments where I felt
- 41:50like, Okay, man, I got all this to do. I got
- 41:52all these bills, I got five kids to take care of, parking tickets
- 41:58still piling up. What in the world. I felt overwhelmed because it's too
- 42:04much. And then when you a single mom and you doing it all by
- 42:07yourself, it's like stressful. It's very stressful. And then it's like,
- 42:14you know, sometimes I think, you know, I even talk to guy
- 42:19like, look, I ain't got nobody helping me. I'm doing this alon,
- 42:23man, you know what I'm saying. So at those times I feel
- 42:29But even when I'm gonna say this too, like even when I do feel
- 42:31discouraged or I feel like down and stressed out, I always try to find
- 42:37a solution. I always I don't like to sit and dwell in the issues
- 42:42that are going on. I just try to figure out, Okay, what
- 42:45would be my best way of going about this. And then at the time
- 42:47too, I was still paying like my car note and everything, and you
- 42:52know, so it's just like bills paddling up on top of bills, and
- 42:57it's like this is getting outrageous because I really want to get in a position
- 43:02and I'm pushing myself in that position to like save more money so I can,
- 43:07you know, do the things that I want to do, make different
- 43:10investments, build generational wealth, keep pushing my business. I don't have time
- 43:17to be you know what I'm saying, constantly paying a city and you know,
- 43:21paying other people to for my life. So it's some things I had
- 43:27to give up. In my car, unfortunately, was one of those things.
- 43:30I was like, you know what, no, I'm good on this.
- 43:34I don't even want to you know, I don't even want to do
- 43:36this no more. And you know, and even right now, like I'm
- 43:43definitely gonna give me another car. But at the same time, it's kind
- 43:46of like it's less stress, you know what I'm saying. I don't have
- 43:52to worry about that part anymore, like coming out to parking tickets and all
- 43:57that type of stuff, you know. And I even had to go to
- 44:02court too. Just yeah, girl, girl, it's like, you know
- 44:12what, you know what this is something cause I feel like, you know,
- 44:19I think I was like what I need to do I think, I,
- 44:21like I said, I just had I feel like I had to let
- 44:22it go. So I was like, you know what, maybe and then
- 44:25it's like I had car issues prior to the end as well, where my
- 44:30battery will stop it just like I had took my kids to school one day
- 44:36and then I'm trying to start the car, back up, car one start,
- 44:39And that happened to me a couple of times. And I was like,
- 44:43and I had a brand new battery. That's the crazy part. So
- 44:45I'm like, and you know how you get those situations where stuff like that
- 44:53happened, but you don't really think too Okay, well it may be time
- 44:58for me to get another car, or you know, it's like you still
- 45:00try to hold on to it, you know, like okay, and that's
- 45:05me because I guess I'm always trying to figure out a solution. So it's
- 45:07like, all right, let me, you know, let me get a
- 45:12jump or something. Once I get a jump, I'll go to you know,
- 45:15cause I got it from Walmart. So it's like, I go to
- 45:19Walmart, have them check out the battery. Okay, what is it is
- 45:22that the alternator was going on? And I get the news that everything is
- 45:28well, everything is okay. So I'm like, okay, well, you
- 45:30know what, I'm just gonna you don't hold on to this car, just
- 45:35hope that it don't, you know, shut off again like that. And
- 45:38I had to make sure I turn everything off, like my lights and stuff
- 45:42off. So I just kept going about it like that, and then eventually
- 45:45the same thing happened again with the same thing happened again, and you know,
- 45:54at that point, it was like it wouldn't start. My car wentn't
- 45:58start at all, What's going on? And people was telling me like,
- 46:02well, maybe the battery and the key fob was you know, maybe that
- 46:08was there and he had to go get that replace. Girl. I was
- 46:13like, and anyway, everything I had going on, I said, you
- 46:16know what, I'm just done forget. Let me ask you this question about
- 46:22the and I another and that was when you before you got the car,
- 46:31did you ask God did you need this car? Because that's one of the
- 46:36things that I've had to learn to understand that if I don't go to God
- 46:40first, whatever the situation may be, if I don't go to Him first,
- 46:45Because before I moved to where I am now, I tried to move
- 46:50without consulting him and I ended up getting scammed. And so before I moved
- 46:54here, I was like, God, if it is so, then you'll
- 46:58make the necessary adjustments, the instructions that I need to follow, You'll make
- 47:02them clear so that everything falls into place. So did you ask God about
- 47:07this car before you got the car? You know? I didn't. I
- 47:14didn't. I didn't, But I will say this, I do feel like
- 47:17the car served its purpose. And I'm saying that because at the time where
- 47:24I was living at my kids, I didn't want my kids going to their
- 47:29neighborhood school, so I had to send them to school somewhere else and that
- 47:35require you know, them transform. Yeah, so I got my kids into
- 47:40school and during that time as well, I was I also had That's when
- 47:45I had got my first store, which was you know, far off.
- 47:49So the car definitely served its purpose, I will say that. But that's
- 47:58one of the things that take from whatever it is that we're going through,
- 48:02is that when you do ask God for certain things, if you ask him
- 48:07for strength, you asking for patience, you asking for wisdom, whatever it
- 48:10is, understand that there are tests that are attached to what you're asking him
- 48:15for. He's not going to give you patience if you don't know how to
- 48:20actually interact with the situation that requires it. He's not going to give you
- 48:23strength if you don't know how to handle the weight of whatever it is that
- 48:28you have to deal with. That's one thing that I have come to understand.
- 48:30If you're praying for certain things, understand that there are lessons attached to
- 48:36it. So if you don't want these lessons, don't be going up there
- 48:38praying and asking God, Hey, look, Kia, can you give me
- 48:42this, because it's a sign to certain things. By baby, I love
- 48:46you. Yeah, I'm sorry my baby busting lee, So I have to
- 48:54make sure I say bye. I see him lady. He going to see
- 48:57my grandson, so you know I'm a grandma too. But anyway, those
- 49:02are one of those things that you know that when God, when you ask
- 49:07him for something, there's stuff that is attached to what he's about to bless
- 49:10you with. Your blessings are attached to lessons, and sometimes we don't be
- 49:15wanting the stuff that come with those blessings, but it's like you you asked
- 49:21for this, understand that it's some stuff and some work that you're gonna have
- 49:25to do and before we go, is there anything that you want to tell
- 49:30anybody listening if they're thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, if they're thinking about just
- 49:39you know, getting out of their comfort zone, what advice would you have
- 49:45to offer them? And then how can they get in touch with you as
- 49:47well? I would say, if you are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur,
- 49:54make sure it's something that you really want to do, and it's it's in
- 49:59a addition to what you said as well, like when you start. I
- 50:04know a lot of people may see the glitz and glamour of becoming an entrepreneur,
- 50:07but just believe it's a lot of work that's put into that and things
- 50:13definitely don't happen overnight. It definitely takes a lot of planning. You have
- 50:16to be very strategic. You have to definitely do your research, know exactly
- 50:22what you're doing, what you're getting yourself into, make wise investment choices as
- 50:28well. You know, try to look and see at what's trending right now,
- 50:32but again also make sure it's something that you feel like you're really passionate,
- 50:37something that you're really good at doing, and something that you really like
- 50:40to do. In addition to that, I would say be careful with who
- 50:46you're doing business with. If you business with someone, make sure there are
- 50:51contracts put in place. Make sure you know, you guys have some sort
- 50:55of uh you know, legal into what whatever you guys decide to do together,
- 51:02because there may be a lot of backlash if you don't, uh,
- 51:06so make sure you have that. And then also I would say, strive
- 51:13for your dreams, even if it's outside of entrepreneurship. Just strive for your
- 51:16dreams, uh and try to figure out what your gift is. So that's
- 51:22my advice. That's my advice to everyone. And if you guys do want
- 51:25to connect with me, you can find me on Facebook and business check is
- 51:30spelled b I Z N E S S. It's the same on Instagram and
