- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. Today I would like to talk to
- 0:32you about taking inventory of your time and figuring out what
- 0:38the heck distracts you. Because this is probably one of
- 0:43the toughest things that most people, most families, most
- 0:47clients, everybody that I talked to talks about time in some
- 0:51manner at some point in time. No pun intended there.
- 0:56This is a a sensitive subject for everybody because time is
- 0:59something that we all have. We're all given it and it and it
- 1:04ends. And some of us have a lot less
- 1:06time than others and some of us have a lot more time than others
- 1:09and it it is a daily occurrence where we feel like we don't have
- 1:15enough time. So.
- 1:18Where do you begin when you're trying to figure this part of
- 1:21yourself out? Like, you know, it's just we run
- 1:23around telling to ourselves, I don't, I don't have enough time.
- 1:25How do you expect me to have the time to do that?
- 1:27Where am I going to find that time?
- 1:29We all have these reactions to time that are intense, that it's
- 1:33not just a little, it's intense. And I know, myself included, I
- 1:36used to be that way and I had to really pull back the reins on
- 1:41myself and say, okay, what's the very first thing that I need to
- 1:44know in order to fix this? Well, that's taken inventory of
- 1:48your time. Where is your time going?
- 1:50Where are you spending your time?
- 1:51What are you doing that doesn't add value to your life and has
- 1:58become something that you use as a tool to desensitize yourself.
- 2:02Where are you wasting time where you could leverage out to
- 2:05someone else? Where are you putting your time?
- 2:09That's. Most useful.
- 2:11Now don't just do it for the things that are on the negative
- 2:14side of stuff. Look at the positive sides too.
- 2:16Where are you spending your time that is actually healthy?
- 2:20What are the things that are are healing your soul every day?
- 2:25What are the things that make you feel good doing them and
- 2:28really take a full blown inventory of it now?
- 2:33Sometimes this exercise is really hard because we'll say,
- 2:37well, those are things I have to do.
- 2:39I have to do them. And those take adjustments to
- 2:44your stories. Like, you know, it's sometimes I
- 2:48tend to look at things and I'll go, well, I have to do that.
- 2:52And then I'll stop and I'll pause and I'll go, no, I don't
- 2:54have to do that. I get to do that.
- 2:56Like, I actually like doing laundry.
- 2:58I know this sounds insane, but I like cleaning.
- 3:01I like daily chores, but I've conditioned myself to not be
- 3:07annoyed by having daily chores, partly because I like to do them
- 3:12and partly because I feel like that's my contribution back to
- 3:16my family, so they don't bother me.
- 3:18But. Some people absolutely don't
- 3:21like them. Some people should try to
- 3:22leverage them out. Some people should let their
- 3:24kids do more things. Because we have this insane
- 3:28belief that we have to do everything for our kids and we
- 3:30don't. And we should be giving them
- 3:33chores to do. And we should be letting them
- 3:35learn how to care for themselves.
- 3:37And we should be letting them fold their clothes and put them
- 3:39away, even though it's not right.
- 3:41Which we will take up in other podcasts, but.
- 3:45Right now this is all about just taking the inventory of the time
- 3:50because it you can't fix what you don't understand to a
- 3:53certain extent. Sometimes we don't have to
- 3:55understand it all to fix it because we can draw the line.
- 3:58But in this case with time we can really see where we are
- 4:02spending it when we have the inventory list okay.
- 4:05So the exercise that I want you guys to go through.
- 4:10Is to really sit and write out where am I spending chunks of my
- 4:15time now? You'll be able to do this
- 4:17immediately just based on the fact that you have a an
- 4:21understanding of your daytime or your day, right, Your schedule
- 4:25for the day, you'll be able to look at it.
- 4:27But I'm talking about all the little time thieves that are out
- 4:31there, like getting lost on social media and someone will
- 4:34say, well, that's just my guilty little pleasure, I love doing
- 4:37that and that's totally fine. If you love doing it and it's
- 4:41not bringing you pain and it's not taking you away from other
- 4:45things that you could be doing or should be doing or want to be
- 4:49doing, then it's not a big deal. But for most of us, it's more of
- 4:55a sickness when we go down that road and we go too much.
- 4:58So you allow yourself sometime, but not tons of time.
- 5:01You know, one of the great things that my grandparents were
- 5:04great at was always being. On point with allowing yourself
- 5:08a certain amount of time to do it.
- 5:10I remember my grandmother sitting there and watching her
- 5:13stories, her soap operas and she would say, well, no, I only do
- 5:16this in the afternoon and it's only for an hour.
- 5:18And then I I go and do other things.
- 5:20But I would see her also knitting, I would see her doing
- 5:25baking, I would see her doing other things that she enjoyed as
- 5:28well. So she always gave herself that
- 5:31schedule of time to throw other things in.
- 5:33And I think now most of us don't do that, We'll.
- 5:36Say, well, I don't have time for that.
- 5:38And that's just sad because we can make time for whatever we
- 5:42want. We just have to schedule
- 5:44ourselves and take back the time.
- 5:46That does not add value. And when I say schedule
- 5:50ourselves, I don't mean overbook yourself.
- 5:52I mean look at your schedule and say, okay, where is all this
- 5:55time going? Where is it being spent?
- 5:58Where am I putting energy that it doesn't need to go?
- 6:01So today I would love you to do your exercise.
- 6:05In time inventory and maybe it's not just one day, maybe you need
- 6:10to do this for a period of two or three days because days
- 6:13aren't always the same. Like a day off is not the same
- 6:16as a day working and a day working might not be the same as
- 6:20if one day you're in in the office and one day you're in
- 6:22your Home Office. So you might have to spend some
- 6:25time actually pouring into this and saying, hey, I've got to do
- 6:29this on a couple different levels so that I can see where
- 6:32it's all going and then I can decide what's working, what's
- 6:35not working. And where I can shift.
- 6:37So hopefully you get this exercise done and you can start
- 6:41to see where do I want to put my time instead of just having it
- 6:47kind of be random. All right guys, have a great day
- 6:49and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
