Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome into another edition of the czech Odaily. It's Andrew
- 0:14Speaker 2: dcheco here, Eagles beat reporter for insidethbirds dot com and
- 0:18Speaker 2: as I mentioned on yesterday's podcast, I attended Nikobe Dean's
- 0:22Speaker 2: holiday tailgate toy drive in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on
- 0:25Speaker 2: Sunday and I wrote a story about it on Inside
- 0:28Speaker 2: the Birds dot com. Want to really highlight some of
- 0:31Speaker 2: the great things that some of these Eagles are doing
- 0:35Speaker 2: in the community. And I went to to Kobe's toy
- 0:38Speaker 2: drive last year. That was the first one that he
- 0:41Speaker 2: did with his kind Hearts for Life foundation. Nakobe does
- 0:45Speaker 2: so much off the field. He's a tremendous guy. Obviously
- 0:48Speaker 2: a very good football player, but there's so much that
- 0:52Speaker 2: he does beyond the football field for the Philadelphia community
- 0:56Speaker 2: and surrounding areas that I wanted to shed some light on.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And there were just so many toys and so many
- 1:01Speaker 2: happy kids there just enjoying the moment. There was a
- 1:05Speaker 2: soundtrack that had a heavy Christmas flare to it. People
- 1:09Speaker 2: were dancing, and there was a lot of Eagles fans
- 1:13Speaker 2: that were posed, you know, that were in line ready
- 1:15Speaker 2: to pose for photos with the Kobe, and I had
- 1:18Speaker 2: a chance to speak to him when it died down
- 1:20Speaker 2: a little bit and hear his perspective on the event,
- 1:24Speaker 2: why that means so much to him.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And I even spoke to his mother, who was there.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And if you listen to to Kobe, he often cites
- 1:32Speaker 2: his mother as his primary influence in shaping him as
- 1:36Speaker 2: the person that he is right now. And so I
- 1:38Speaker 2: had a chance to talk to her briefly, and it's
- 1:40Speaker 2: a I enjoyed the experience, and I always enjoy whenever
- 1:44Speaker 2: I'm able to do some of those things and bring
- 1:46Speaker 2: that to the surface. But anyway, the Eagles should be
- 1:51Speaker 2: or could be returning a couple of key figures on
- 1:55Speaker 2: one on each side of the ball this week, and
- 1:57Speaker 2: that is defensive tackle Jalen Carter and right tackle Lane Johnson.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Now we'll have to wait and see. It seemed like
- 2:05Speaker 2: Lane Johnson has been trending in the right direction. Jalen Carter,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I'm not really sure about. He was listed as week
- 2:10Speaker 2: to week for a while. I guess it was a
- 2:13Speaker 2: few weeks ago now, and to me, at least, my
- 2:16Speaker 2: gut suggested that he was a tick for further off
- 2:19Speaker 2: in terms of returning to the fold. Remember, Lane got
- 2:23Speaker 2: hurt in the Detroit Lions game and missed several games thereafter,
- 2:28Speaker 2: but there was a report Sunday that both players should
- 2:32Speaker 2: be returning to practice. Now, the Eagles hold their first
- 2:35Speaker 2: practice of the week because it's Christmas, so it's a
- 2:38Speaker 2: little bit of a truncated schedule once again. That'll be Tuesday.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It's going to be a walk through around three fifteen
- 2:45Speaker 2: ish and we'll get our first injury estimation at least
- 2:49Speaker 2: of the week, so that'll be a really big telltale. Now,
- 2:52Speaker 2: this game coming up against the Buffalo Bills is meaningful,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and you can make the argument that if Jalen Carter
- 3:00Speaker 2: and Lane Johnson are healthy enough that you would like
- 3:03Speaker 2: to see them get some snaps in the last meaningful
- 3:06Speaker 2: regular season game of the season, especially against this type
- 3:10Speaker 2: of opponent.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I should clarify, but.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Lane Johnson has played a lot of football and I
- 3:17Speaker 2: don't know if you would want to maybe put him
- 3:19Speaker 2: out there. Jalen Carter would be an interesting story, interesting
- 3:22Speaker 2: case here because let's not forget earlier in the season,
- 3:26Speaker 2: Fick Fangio mentioned that Carter had to round into football
- 3:30Speaker 2: shape and now he's been sidelined for a little bit now,
- 3:33Speaker 2: so you maybe want to see him get some snaps
- 3:36Speaker 2: and start to say that you can ramp that up
- 3:39Speaker 2: when the postseason occurs. So promising news from the Eagles,
- 3:44Speaker 2: who are getting super impactful players on each side of
- 3:46Speaker 2: the ball lane. Johnson the best in the business of
- 3:49Speaker 2: what he does. Jalen Carter among the best at what
- 3:52Speaker 2: he does. And I think in this case with Carter,
- 3:56Speaker 2: we don't quite know the you know, the extent and
- 4:01Speaker 2: what he's dealing with with those shoulders, and it's going
- 4:04Speaker 2: to be something in all likelihood that I would imagine
- 4:06Speaker 2: lingers throughout the season and has to get addressed. But yes,
- 4:13Speaker 2: that's something that I'll certainly be keeping an eye on.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But I also wanted to shed a spotlight on the
- 4:19Speaker 2: defensive tackles who have, in my estimation, done a very
- 4:23Speaker 2: nice job filling in and a sort of atoning for
- 4:26Speaker 2: those snaps that Jay when Carter plays. And Moro Jomo
- 4:30Speaker 2: has been playing lights out this season five sacks on
- 4:33Speaker 2: the year. He's had some really key sacks in the
- 4:37Speaker 2: latter stages of some of those games, whether it was
- 4:39Speaker 2: the Vikings game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against Baker
- 4:42Speaker 2: Mayfield on that last drive really sticks out, sort of
- 4:45Speaker 2: coming into his own with the more snaps that he's
- 4:48Speaker 2: playing very quick. I think he has a good understanding
- 4:52Speaker 2: of how to use leverage. He plays with extreme violence,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and that really showcases if you zoom in, if you
- 5:00Speaker 2: watch and hone in on the trenches, as I do
- 5:02Speaker 2: when I have to watch, I watch the game at
- 5:05Speaker 2: least a few different times. Watching Moro Joma work is
- 5:09Speaker 2: you know, you kind of just marvel at it. He's
- 5:11Speaker 2: a technician and he's very difficult for interior linemen to block.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm

- 8:50Speaker 3: Camedn Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience
- 8:55Speaker 3: made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You also have to highlight brand Graham, who at one
- 9:01Speaker 2: point he collected three sacks and nine snaps. He played
- 9:05Speaker 2: just a handful of snaps in each of the past
- 9:08Speaker 2: two weeks three sacks. His career totals at seventy nine
- 9:11Speaker 2: and a half. Now he's not playing a large, large
- 9:16Speaker 2: group of the snaps or anything like that, but I
- 9:18Speaker 2: think you check off a ton of boxes there when
- 9:20Speaker 2: you look at his effectiveness and he's sort of moonlighting
- 9:24Speaker 2: in there and one of the players who had to
- 9:26Speaker 2: make a sacrifice and just try to get in where
- 9:28Speaker 2: he fits in, find a role that's going to benefit
- 9:31Speaker 2: the team, and try to execute that to the best
- 9:33Speaker 2: of your ability. And I think the returns have been
- 9:37Speaker 2: nothing showed a spectacular you look.
- 9:40Speaker 1: At Jordan Davis.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Jordan Davis perhaps had his best game of the season
- 9:44Speaker 2: against the Washington Commanders, all over the defensive line, just
- 9:48Speaker 2: pushing lineman back. There's so many times where he's meeting
- 9:53Speaker 2: running backs in the backfield and stopping them for no gain.
- 9:57Speaker 2: He's very quick and powerful, and you can see that
- 10:00Speaker 2: he still has the same energy at least that's the
- 10:02Speaker 2: way that it you know, it does the way that
- 10:05Speaker 2: it looks when you're watching the games, as he did
- 10:07Speaker 2: earlier in the season. So I think that Jordan Davis
- 10:11Speaker 2: should be a pro bowler now, you know how the
- 10:14Speaker 2: Pro Bowl works a lot of times. It's a popularity
- 10:16Speaker 2: contest more often than not, and you tend to look
- 10:19Speaker 2: at the stats. I think if you're someone who looks
- 10:22Speaker 2: at the Pro Bowl voting, and Jordan Davis maybe doesn't
- 10:25Speaker 2: have the sack total of a lot of the players
- 10:29Speaker 2: at his position who would be making the Pro Bowl.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And that's unfortunate because if you watch Philadelphia Eagles football,
- 10:35Speaker 2: you see the impact that he's having controlling the line
- 10:38Speaker 2: of scrimmage and really coming into his own going into
- 10:41Speaker 2: the season. If you guys, remember one of the things
- 10:43Speaker 2: that I said was when the conversation presides, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 2: when it had to do with Jordan Davis, when it
- 10:50Speaker 2: centered around him, I said, I need to see it
- 10:54Speaker 2: before I believe it, because every offseason we hear really
- 10:57Speaker 2: good things from Jordan Davis about diet and conditioning and
- 11:02Speaker 2: all that. But this summer, I wanted to see it
- 11:05Speaker 2: in action before I truly bought it.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I really like the player.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I've sort of supported him and I've noted a lot
- 11:12Speaker 2: of the strides that he's made, but he is just
- 11:15Speaker 2: having a Pro Bowl caliber season and is embracing his
- 11:19Speaker 2: role as a leader on this football team. He's a
- 11:22Speaker 2: natural leader, and I think that seeing him every day
- 11:26Speaker 2: throughout the season, he is a just an array of
- 11:31Speaker 2: positive energy. Every single day. He uplifts others around him.
- 11:35Speaker 2: He's a big presence, and he's just naturally fit in
- 11:39Speaker 2: as one of those locker room pillars. So just a
- 11:42Speaker 2: really breakthrough season for Jordan Davis all round. But then
- 11:45Speaker 2: the final player that I wanted to highlight is someone
- 11:47Speaker 2: who kind of gets lost in the shuffle a little bit,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and that's Byron Young. I wrote about this on my
- 11:53Speaker 2: x account that when you look at what he's been
- 11:56Speaker 2: able to do over the last three weeks, seventy four snaps,
- 12:00Speaker 2: two and a half sacks, three quarterback hits. I think
- 12:04Speaker 2: he has two tackles for loss. He's really established a
- 12:08Speaker 2: meaningful role in the rotation, more so than Brandon Graham.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Though Brandon Graham, when you look at his.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Efficiency with three sacks and just a limited amount of time,
- 12:17Speaker 2: you look at Byron Young. He played twenty six snaps
- 12:21Speaker 2: against the Commanders.
- 12:23Speaker 1: He had a sizeable role.
- 12:25Speaker 2: In the Chargers game, didn't have to play a ton
- 12:28Speaker 2: against the Raiders. The Eagles defense, I think, oh we
- 12:31Speaker 2: had thirty nine snaps in that game anyway. But when
- 12:34Speaker 2: you look at this roster and different players who have
- 12:36Speaker 2: had to have their number called upon at different points
- 12:39Speaker 2: because of injury, Byron Young is someone that I think
- 12:41Speaker 2: you're going to look back on this season and have
- 12:44Speaker 2: sort of an appreciation for a role player stepping up,
- 12:49Speaker 2: providing quality snaps and sort of navigating the fort. And
- 12:54Speaker 2: he's had players around him like Jordan Davis and Moro
- 12:56Speaker 2: Jomo and Brandon Graham of course, but I think Byron
- 13:00Speaker 2: Young over the last three weeks has been sort of
- 13:01Speaker 2: an unsung hero, So I wanted to give him a
- 13:05Speaker 2: mention here as we sort of look at some of
- 13:07Speaker 2: those players who filled in in the absence for Jalen
- 13:11Speaker 2: Carter at least had to take on an elevated workload.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Just some of my thoughts here.
- 13:15Speaker 2: As the week gets going, the Eagles haves Vic Fangio
- 13:18Speaker 2: tomorrow and there will be the first walk through, which
- 13:22Speaker 2: is the first practice of the week, which is a
- 13:23Speaker 2: walk through, and then locker room later. And for now,
- 13:28Speaker 2: that's going to do it for this edition of a
- 13:30Speaker 2: Czech O Daily. I am Andrew Deiceco and I will
- 13:32Speaker 2: catch you on the next one.
