- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Texanville Jaguar's fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by Jinjag.com and fuel by Brass Tax Coffee right now.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: We are recapping the Jaguar's 3417 loss to the Carolina Panthers in preseason week two.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously a scoreboard not very good.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's some obvious reasons for that in my opinion.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get into that here and just kind of talk about everything I saw on first watch.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing this the morning after the morning after the Jaguar's loss to
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: The Panthers, the game ended pretty late, so I just figured getting this out in the morning would make more sense than putting it out late at night for a preseason game, right?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Especially a preseason game in which starters aren't out there and you really got in most of your work you wanted from your starters and your players that are actually going to be making an impact on the team earlier this week during joint practices.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, we're going to get into it
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, like, I feel like it was really obvious why the Jaguars were not able to get this one done, and it was a weird ending.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: For sure, two minutes left in the game, weather in the area, it's like, okay, it's preseason guys.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just call it, let's just call it, and they did.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, ended the game a couple minutes early, that's all right, but they lost
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: For one, because the Panthers actually played some starters on both sides of the ball.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Their first team offense was out there, Bryce Young, Team Mac, et cetera, right?
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Their first team offense was out there, and there's a trickle down effect, I feel like when one team has a starting group out there on one side of the ball, which on defense they had a few starters out there.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: The Panthers did.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: offensively they had a lot of starters out there and so when you have first team offense for second team defense for multiple drives and then it's kind of a trickle down the second team offense is going against some third team guys the third team offense is going against some you know guys that are barely on the 90 man roster you know it is what it is but beyond just the simple fact that
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: the Panthers were having first against second against third and so on.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, red zone, Panthers had much better execution in the red zone than the Jack Wars did and close to the scoring range, like the Jack Wars had missed opportunities in the red zone where they had to settle for field goals, where the Panthers had a lot more touchdown plays in the red zone and less mistakes there.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's also turnovers, right?
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: The Carter Bradley Interception, we'll talk a little bit more about that, but that one heard and then the DJ Dallas Fumble and the lack of turnovers forced by the Jaguar's defense.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then also defensively, I feel like a couple three plays where the Panthers had
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: reverse.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: They had a fake screen.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: They had a, you know, heavy play action boot and all three of those really kind of spark big plays for the Panthers offense where the Jaguar's defense was undisciplined on those fakes and tricks, honestly.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of what I saw there in terms of why the Jaguar's lost the game.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: We can get into some more specifics for sure.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: Excited to do that.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think special teams was better.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, no issues with Cam Little, but, you know, coverage units, I thought were better.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: Still not perfect, still some room to improve.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: Miss tackles, angles, et cetera, but I think overall much better than they were in preseason week one.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: And you still don't have all your guys out there.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be out there during the regular season, but
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I thought they improved but still weren't perfect.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: We'll start off getting into some more detail here on the defensive side of the ball because again you gave up 34 points.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: We'll walk the heck up in there.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's back-ups on defense got a stop against the ones.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: They got to stop against Bryce Young and Tedero McMillan in company.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was incredible, really.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Panthers' offense is not going to be probably one of the best in the league.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're probably going to be like average at best.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: But Tedero McMillan is about as good as it gets, honestly, from a talent perspective.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know that he's a younger guy.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't like vaulted himself up into,
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: people talking about him as a, you know, number like the top receiver and football or top five receiver, but he's close to that.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: He is really, really good.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: And the Jaguars, they had trouble with him and joint practice and they had trouble with him in this game.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Anyone trying to cover T-Mac one-on-one that's a backup in this league.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: Good luck.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, a lot of starters are going to have trouble with that, too.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: And you saw that.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: And this one with the backup's trying
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Even Travis Hunter, I mean, that's going to be a tough matchup if you have to go one-on-one with T-Mac.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think that in a live game, a real game, the Jaguars would probably have a little bit more mixed coverages to try to deal with that and different looks up front that they weren't really giving as much in this one, but yeah, T-Mac, he did a very good job.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: and he's difficult to deal with.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned the reverse, they gave up later in the game.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, Jimmy Horn Jr. can absolutely fly.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that guy has fast as all get out.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: But it also looked like no one stayed home.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody got sucked into the run fake and then there was just all sorts of green grass and there's three blockers out there with only two defenders.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, so that was pretty bad.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: I thought,
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, when it comes to, you know, Vintro Miller, Branson Combs, on my first watch, I thought that Combs was pretty horrible against the run.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: He also ended up having a passenger appearance call.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Combs has the physicality in the strength to really defend the run at the NFL level.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen talked about, at least not yet.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's still a young guy, right?
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: And hasn't been playing lineback or forever.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen talked about after the game, something I've been talking about for weeks now, those guys are both gonna play.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: So he said whoever is number one on the debt chart, it's probably some antics, because it's they're gonna be brought in situationally, depending on the opponent, depending on the situation.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that that was a very good point from Liam Cohen and I was happy to hear that, because I think that's how they should be deployed, but I would put Ventrel number one, just because I think right now,
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: he's not like a net negative in either zone coverage or against the run.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas Branson comes, it looks like he's just swimming a little bit out there.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: The AJ Dillon run, the touchdown, obviously, you know, AJ Dillon, even if he is a depth back now, still has that talent that he's always had, and physicality's always had.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: The defensive interior, that just, that was some guys that are not going to be on the team, and it wasn't pretty, they got, they got bullied a little bit.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: I did want to shout out Fitzgerald for the Panthers getting his 61-yarder, little career along there.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny just like the fact that 61-yard doesn't seem that impressive anymore, and if you would have told me 61-yards wasn't impressive like 5, 10 years ago, I was like, what the heck are you talking about?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, Cam Little and other guys like Brandon Aubrey and stuff.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: it just seems routine now which is just a crazy point that we're at with kicking the ball in the NFL.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: I thought overall the corners were still a bit disappointing.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'll dive deeper into that but they, you know, Braswell, Muhammad, Valentine, Valentine can't catch a break man.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: He had really good coverage in the end zone and it was just a little bit better
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: wasn't like a lot of super-aggregious stuff, but not getting their hands on the ball at all.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's pretty disappointing.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and like I said, a lot of the guys out there, not even close to being locks for the roster for the 53 man roster, probably closer to being locks not to make it, um, and speaking of locks, you know, the my booky lock of the season is back.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: First one is an absolute no-brainer with the Patriots in Seattle for NFL kickoff weekend.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: My bookie is asking one simple question, will the Seahawks raise their championship banner that night?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: course they will.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: The defending champs home opener and raising the banner is part of the celebration and you're getting that bet over at my bookie at plus money odds you're getting paid to say yes the seahawks will do it.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the entire night is built around, right?
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first my bookie lock of the season and there will be more coming all season long.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Get in before kick off, sign up at my bookie with my promo code Duval, all caps, DUVAL, and start your season off with a win anytime.

- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, get into the offensive side of the ball.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the first group that was out there featured a lot of Nick Mullins, at quarterback, CJ Williams, Josh Cameron, Amir Abdullah.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys did some good things, and I have to say, like, the Jaguars offensive line, which, again, was filled with players that are not going to be on the roster.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, like, it was a third string unit out there.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, the...
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe some of them were, yeah, on the practice squad, but some of them won't be.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: They did a better job.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: They did a much better job than they did against the saints.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: They allowed the offense to function a little bit more.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: But still wasn't pretty and wasn't even close to perfect.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: That has to be said, but still, they did a little bit better job.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought that that helped Nick Mullins, who he went six of seven, it wasn't like crazy, but six of seven for 65 yards is good.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: The one sack he took.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: It really, I mean, it was third and.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: long, you had to score a touchdown or, you know, I guess you could have settled for like getting it close to the end zone and then trying to go for it.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: But there wasn't much there.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: He could have tried to force it.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think to Austin Tramel really like right before his break if he threw it maybe, but I don't think it was really designed that way.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought Nick
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: is Nick Mullins, the Jaguar is back up.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, Liam Cohen earlier in the week said like, this guy, he's our number two, we're confident in him.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he showed some of some of why the Jaguar is feel that way tonight with a little bit better protection than he had last week and just playing better football.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: I still buy no means think he's like a plus backup in this league.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think he lacks arm talent and, you know, just overall physical ability.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then he also, I've seen him make too many mistakes in my opinion to be that type of player.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: But look, the jack's like him.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: probably got to get used to that.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Carter Bradley had a had a much worse game overall and he had in week one, still did some good things and had some, gave some guys some opportunities to go make a play one on one that they didn't make, but the interception was horrible, absolutely horrible, for Carter Bradley.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Throwing back across your body is a no-no in the NFL and pretty much at any level of football.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: So that was that was just pointy, but you know, he gave 100 long an opportunity in the end zone.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's a drop to me.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: That was a dot.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: That was a really good throw.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: Hit 100 long, you know, in stride, back of the end zone, just perfect timing.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's got to be a touchdown in my opinion.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, not a great game from Carter Bradley.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Just kind of playing a little frantically making some mistakes, all that stuff.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: Back to, you know, CJ Williams, Josh Cameron, Amirabdula, those playmakers, those guys that, that, you know, is Amirabdula your RB4 and potentially on the roster week one if Lickland Allen is still down?
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: He had a hell of a game.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Six carries for 45 yards.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: His foot quickness, his cutback ability.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was on display and he was breaking some tackles too, running through some warm tackles, doing a really good job.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know,
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: We mentioned six carries for 45 yards, averaging seven and a half a carry.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then he also got it going a little bit as a receiver.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Three catches for 37 yards on four targets, the one he didn't haul in.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he would've been attached down if he was able to catch it.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: But it was a contested situation.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he probably would say that he should bring that one in.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would probably agree with that.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: It is what it is.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: But CJ Williams and
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Cameron continued to impress me in a big way.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams was targeted four times, and it was kind of a lot of a dinking, dumb, quick game stuff, which I think that that was by design to see how he could execute in that department, and he was four for four.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, you know, presented a target for the quarterback, hauled the ball in last week.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: He had a good game, but he did have a drop.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: So was able to improve on that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Cameron just went and down the field.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: Two catches, 41 yards, long of 22, so both of them were like 20, about 20 yards.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: And they were both just plucking the ball out of the air.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: His length, he's got to have insane length.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like it looks like his arms, like go the gadget type of deal.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, his arms are 33 and an eighth.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's like past rush.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's like offensive line length there.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that that really helps so many has big hands too.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I think both of those guys, you know, draft picks this year did a really good job.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll a screenwork.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's always of note for me when a screenwork for the Jaguars because it's so few and far between it seems like.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: But there's been a little bit of progress made in that department.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think recently.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's a good thing.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: Joey Aguilar came in.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: He started his NFL pre-season career, two for two for 65 yards.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then, I mean, he did the thing this game.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: He was nine of 10 for 130 yards.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: They were touched down to Trevor Payne, another guy who has been really impressive, had the drop last week, but came back and fought through it and had a huge play down the field from Joey Aguilar.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: He was four for Fort Trapper Payneau.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: Four catches, four targets, 72 yards, a touchdown in which he made some guys missed.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: It a really good job there.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a guy that continues to impress me, and he was a good player in college.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's a guy that could have probably been drafted.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: late round.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: So you got him making plays.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: You got Michael Werther making plays too.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's a, you know, diminutive.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: He feels like probably a slot receiver five foot nine, 190 pounds, but he's got quickness.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's got agility.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's out there making plays.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: Three catches on three targets for 41 yards for Michael Werther.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: I was impressed by him, overall, even though the score doesn't reflect it, there's some good things to take away from this game.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's like, again, that trickle down effect of of the Panthers kind of playing more of their front-line guys, more of the starters, more of the guys that are actually going to make the roster versus the Jaguar is doing much less of that.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: And it was really nice here in Broham there at the end.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: If you know, you know, Broham absolutely a wonderful sound during a Jaguar's game.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: So that's going to do it for this one.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: Going to dive deeper into this and kind of offer some more low lights, probably, either later on today or tomorrow morning.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar is due returned to practice tomorrow and they have four straight days of practice before they take on the bucks.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: two regular jacks practices, two joint practices, and then they'll take on the bucks next week too.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: So it's gonna be a packed week for sure.
