- 0:30Speaker 1: anniversary of a loved one's death. A Prayer for the
- 0:51Speaker 1: Anniversary of a Loved One's Death Written by Vivian Bricker
- 0:56Speaker 1: Read by Carrie Eichberger He will swallow up death forever.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces.
- 1:06Speaker 1: He will remove His people's disgrace from all the earth.
- 1:10Speaker 1: The Lord has spoken. Isaiah 25 verse 8. My mom
- 1:16Speaker 1: passed away from congestive heart failure 10 years ago this year.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Sometimes the years feel like an eternity, and other times
- 1:25Speaker 1: it feels like no time has elapsed at all. Grief
- 1:29Speaker 1: is a tricky thing. There are times when you feel
- 1:32Speaker 1: you are getting better and then there are times when
- 1:35Speaker 1: you break down in tears when you simply think of
- 1:38Speaker 1: your loved one who has passed away. After talking to therapists,
- 1:42Speaker 1: my sisters and I realized we struggle with complex grief.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Most people can move on after a loved one passes away. However,
- 1:51Speaker 1: for my sisters and me, we could not move forward.
- 1:55Speaker 1: This is known as complex grief. The grief has never lifted.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I still think about my mom all the time. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: mourn for her, and I feel like a piece of
- 2:06Speaker 1: me died with her. Life is completely different now. It
- 2:10Speaker 1: could never be the same without her. My mom was
- 2:13Speaker 1: instrumental to my life. She believed in me when I
- 2:16Speaker 1: gave up on myself. She pushed me to be the
- 2:19Speaker 1: best version of myself possible. And she was a hard critic,
- 2:23Speaker 1: yet it helped me develop a tough skin for life.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Losing my mom to CHF was not on the game
- 2:30Speaker 1: plan for my life. I wanted my mom to walk
- 2:33Speaker 1: through college with me, see me land my first job,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and get my own place. Our moms are often the
- 2:39Speaker 1: proudest of us when we accomplish something that seemed impossible.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Although we did not think we could accomplish a certain goal,
- 2:47Speaker 1: they never doubted us for one second. It is painful
- 2:51Speaker 1: to watch our loved ones leave our lives, especially when
- 2:55Speaker 1: they are gone far too soon. My life was just
- 2:58Speaker 1: starting when my mom passed away. Everyone at college was
- 3:02Speaker 1: flourishing while I was decaying. For 10 days straight, my
- 3:06Speaker 1: family and I went to visit my mom in the
- 3:08Speaker 1: cardiac intensive care unit before she passed away. Although there
- 3:13Speaker 1: were times when the cardiologist thought she was doing better,
- 3:16Speaker 1: her heart would return to arrhythmias. Despite their best attempts
- 3:20Speaker 1: in medicines, nothing helped my mom. My mom was such
- 3:24Speaker 1: a strong woman throughout my life. it was paralyzing to
- 3:27Speaker 1: see her lying in a hospital bed, attached to various devices.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The strong woman I loved was still there, but her
- 3:35Speaker 1: time on this earth was ending. As I have been
- 3:38Speaker 1: approaching the anniversary of her death, I am reminded of
- 3:42Speaker 1: the pain and agony, but I am also reminded of
- 3:45Speaker 1: the love, strength, and happiness of my mother. In this way,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I am to celebrate her life, a life that truly
- 3:54Speaker 1: impacted everyone she came in contact with. If you are
- 3:58Speaker 1: also facing the anniversary of the death of a loved one,
- 4:02Speaker 1: find solace in these words. He will swallow up death forever.
- 4:06Speaker 1: The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces.
- 4:12Speaker 1: He will remove His people's disgrace from all the earth.
- 4:16Speaker 1: The Lord has spoken. Death has already been defeated, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: it will be completely eradicated one day. No longer will
- 4:24Speaker 1: anyone have to die. We will be reunited with our
- 4:27Speaker 1: loved ones in heaven and spend all eternity in the
- 4:31Speaker 1: new heaven and new earth. In the new heaven and
- 4:35Speaker 1: new earth, there will be no more crying, pain, mourning,
- 4:39Speaker 1: or death. The Lord himself will welcome us and surround
- 4:43Speaker 1: us with his love. We will see our loved ones again.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And because of this, we can rejoice. Whether your loved
- 4:51Speaker 1: one has been gone for a year or or decades.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Take heart. You will see them again. Praise be to
- 4:58Speaker 1: the Lord forever. Let's pray. Dear Jesus, I am approaching
- 5:04Speaker 1: the 10th anniversary of the death of my loved one.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Pain is overwhelming at times. Even after all this time,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I still miss them. Their smile, voice, and laughter fill
- 5:16Speaker 1: my heart to the point that tears rise in my eyes.
- 5:20Speaker 1: How I long to see them again, Lord. Please bring
- 5:24Speaker 1: my soul peace as I'm navigating this difficult season of life.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I will reflect on our wonderful memories and cherish the
- 5:31Speaker 1: time we shared. Encourage my heart to remember that I
- 5:35Speaker 1: will see my loved one again. You have defeated death,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and one day, all will be made right. Thank you
- 5:43Speaker 1: for giving us this sure promise, Lord. In your name
- 5:46Speaker 1: I pray. Amen. Amen. Your Daily Prayer is a production
