- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. Ey to the Touchstoff Away Easy
- 0:18Speaker 1: Crickets for top rating. He strong, Jay and the Vault
- 0:25Speaker 1: came about. It's Florence into the end zone cost Mark
- 0:29Speaker 1: Hemho hit Scoo, good hand too, Bud, touchdown Dave David's
- 0:36Speaker 1: only background Maggie eight yards throws it to Eckler on
- 0:39Speaker 1: the screen. He's good. The five into the zone. A man,
- 0:42Speaker 1: We're the house called touchdown, taste some hill to touch,
- 0:46Speaker 1: the taste of t V six k yards shut down,
- 0:52Speaker 1: come down southings up the park. I said for the touchdown.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Other times I believe ms. He goes a little, be
- 0:59Speaker 1: fun to go. The Eagles are still undefeated. The Texans
- 1:11Speaker 1: have finally won a game. Brian day Ball this coach
- 1:14Speaker 1: of the year, at least the leader in the clubhouse.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We have plenty of injuries, we have plenty of movement.
- 1:19Speaker 1: We had a wild week five seemingly, as we always
- 1:22Speaker 1: say here on a Monday morning on NFL Network. My
- 1:24Speaker 1: name is Andrews Sicilian know this year is Steve White.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We also have our first coaching firing of the scene.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah came quick, but also goes to show you there's
- 1:33Speaker 1: absolutely some things going on the scenes in Carolina exactly,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and the Panthers have only one win, and not surprisingly
- 1:38Speaker 1: after falling to the forty Niners yesterday, Steve, they have
- 1:41Speaker 1: fired head coach Matt Rule one and four this year.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Matt Rule is done five and twelve, last year five
- 1:50Speaker 1: and eleven, in twenty and eleven and twenty seven overall,
- 1:55Speaker 1: Steve Wilkes, who had one year with Josh Rosen in
- 1:57Speaker 1: twenty eighteen as his quarterback in Arizona as head coach
- 2:01Speaker 1: one and done there is taking over at least for
- 2:04Speaker 1: the rest of the season to Rappaport. Tom Peliser are
- 2:06Speaker 1: insiders on this one. We kind of sort of, kind
- 2:09Speaker 1: of sort of rather Ian saw this one coming, especially
- 2:12Speaker 1: considering the way things fell apart yesterday and the fact
- 2:15Speaker 1: that those stands were empty in Charlotte by the time
- 2:18Speaker 1: Brock pretty not Jimmy Garoppolo was in there to take him,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and those factors you mentioned, Andrew were significant. From what
- 2:25Speaker 1: I understand, David Tepper, the Carolina Panther's owner, wanted to
- 2:28Speaker 1: be patient, just like he was patient with Ron Rivera
- 2:30Speaker 1: when he took over, Just like he allowed Matt Rule
- 2:33Speaker 1: to have a third year, wanted to be patient, wanted
- 2:36Speaker 1: this to succeed. The only caveat, and I would say
- 2:38Speaker 1: there are probably two caveats, is one when the locker
- 2:41Speaker 1: room stopped believing in Matt Rule. Uh that and you
- 2:44Speaker 1: know when you look out on the field the second
- 2:46Speaker 1: half and the pretty ugly loss against the San Francisco
- 2:50Speaker 1: forty niners, the effort wasn't great. Uh, the way they
- 2:53Speaker 1: were playing wasn't great. It wasn't what owner David Tepper
- 2:57Speaker 1: wanted to see. And when that happened, then you started
- 2:59Speaker 1: a thing, all right, maybe a change would be necessary
- 3:03Speaker 1: rather than just something you would consider. And then you know,
- 3:06Speaker 1: is there an embarrassment? And yesterday's lost you mentioned it,
- 3:09Speaker 1: with fans leaving and with the etherly product down the
- 3:12Speaker 1: field was certainly embarrassing. All of that spelled the end
- 3:15Speaker 1: for Matt Rule's tenure. And Tom, if you think about it,
- 3:17Speaker 1: you know there's certainly been challenges to what Matt Rule.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Came in and took over several different quarterbacks the team
- 3:23Speaker 1: in transition, but at year three, by this point you
- 3:27Speaker 1: would hope that it would look better than it did.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And so Matt Rule fired earlier today, and he and
- 3:32Speaker 1: David Tepper wanted to show that Matt Rule would have
- 3:35Speaker 1: the time it took to exact that cultural overhaul that
- 3:39Speaker 1: he was brought in to do. That's why he got
- 3:40Speaker 1: a seven year contract out of the gate. They wanted
- 3:43Speaker 1: him to have the runway in order to build this
- 3:46Speaker 1: thing the right way. But really it came down as
- 3:49Speaker 1: much as anything to the Panthers could not score, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: it didn't matter who is it quarterback, whether it was
- 3:54Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield or Sam Donald or Cam Newton when he
- 3:58Speaker 1: came back, or Teddy Bridgewater. It didn't remember matter who
- 4:01Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator was, Joe Brady. You have Nixon finished
- 4:04Speaker 1: out allow past year on an interim basis. Then they
- 4:06Speaker 1: brought in Ben McAdoo. In games where the opponent scores
- 4:10Speaker 1: at least seventeen points, Matt Rules record was one in
- 4:14Speaker 1: twenty seven, including consecutive losses. When you're an owner like
- 4:19Speaker 1: David Temper, and you see in essence, the same game
- 4:22Speaker 1: happening every single week, and once the opponent gets the
- 4:26Speaker 1: seventeen points, you know you've got virtually no chance to
- 4:29Speaker 1: catch up. That is a really difficult thing to get over.
- 4:32Speaker 1: The Panthers did make runs at fixing the quarterback position.
- 4:36Speaker 1: They made a big offer for Matthew Stafford last offseason.
- 4:39Speaker 1: They made several pushes to try to bring in Deshaun
- 4:42Speaker 1: Watson ended up getting Baker Mayfield on the cheap here,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but he hasn't played particularly well through the course of
- 4:48Speaker 1: this season. They still aren't scoring any points. Andrew I
- 4:51Speaker 1: would absolutely anticipate that those issues are going to shape
- 4:55Speaker 1: David Tepper's vision. He could say, audition here for twelve
- 4:58Speaker 1: games with Steve Wilkes, who has a defensive background, because
- 5:00Speaker 1: he's only for the new permanent head coach. Finding someone
- 5:03Speaker 1: who's got a plan to fix the at offense and
- 5:05Speaker 1: fixed the quarterback position. It's gonna be a core part
- 5:08Speaker 1: of it, which they have taken a swing every single
- 5:11Speaker 1: offseason money on Teddy Bridgewater and then Cam and then
- 5:14Speaker 1: darn Old and then Baker and then Ian real quick
- 5:16Speaker 1: here before we move on, you just tweeted moments ago
- 5:19Speaker 1: Baker high ankle sprain. So p J. Walker it looks
- 5:23Speaker 1: like against the Rams this week and Steve Wilkes first game, Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: through Baker Mayfield X rays were negative. He discoversults back
- 5:29Speaker 1: from the m R and when I understand they showed
- 5:31Speaker 1: a high ankle sprain. Gonna have more tests in the
- 5:34Speaker 1: coming days. So how long he is gonna be out?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Is it gonna become clear? But yes, expected to be
- 5:40Speaker 1: p J. Walker now at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers
- 5:43Speaker 1: at the very least against the ram And more injury
- 5:46Speaker 1: news Tom including another Bosa going down. We have Joey
- 5:50Speaker 1: who's out on I R here in l A with
- 5:53Speaker 1: the Chargers, and now Nick has a groin injury with
- 5:56Speaker 1: the forty Niners Andrew. It certainly sounds like the forty
- 5:59Speaker 1: Niners are optimistic that Nick is going to be in
- 6:02Speaker 1: better shape than Joey here. Kyle Shanahanda's scribed it after
- 6:05Speaker 1: the game as growing tightness for Nick Bosa, who was
- 6:09Speaker 1: seen on the sideline trying to get stretched out athletic
- 6:12Speaker 1: trainers working on one of his legs. Just wasn't able
- 6:15Speaker 1: to get back into the game, and you can see
- 6:16Speaker 1: him right there on the sideline with his out his helmet,
- 6:19Speaker 1: plainly frustrated. This is one of the most impactful players
- 6:23Speaker 1: on a defense that right now is playing like one
- 6:25Speaker 1: of the best in the NFL. So that is certainly
- 6:27Speaker 1: one to keep an eye on for and I has
- 6:29Speaker 1: already lost another important part of that defense cornerback and
- 6:32Speaker 1: Manual Mosley tore his a c L. He is done
- 6:37Speaker 1: for the season, So a question upfront. And also some
- 6:40Speaker 1: shuffling now inevitable on the back end for San Francisco
- 6:43Speaker 1: as well. And with Jimmy Ward coming back and breaking
- 6:45Speaker 1: a hand as well, Jason Barrette could be coming back
- 6:48Speaker 1: for the Niners. Also right around the corner, they're going
- 6:50Speaker 1: to go to West Virginia. They have another East Coast
- 6:53Speaker 1: game next week. They've done this the last couple of years.
- 6:55Speaker 1: They are not heading home. And take me through what
- 6:57Speaker 1: happened with Teddy Bridgewater yesterday, because for those who don't know,
- 7:00Speaker 1: they finally agreed the union in the league on the
- 7:03Speaker 1: new concussion protocol alls in advance of Sunday's games. Obviously,
- 7:08Speaker 1: all of this from the to a tongue by lower
- 7:10Speaker 1: situation over a couple of weeks in his concussion diagnosis
- 7:12Speaker 1: here Teddy Bridgewater, and we are going to error on
- 7:16Speaker 1: the side of caution. Teddy Bridgewater was taken from that
- 7:19Speaker 1: game against the Jets after one play. Yeah, and it
- 7:24Speaker 1: was after he fell back in the end zone and
- 7:26Speaker 1: hit his head and was placed in the NFL's concussion Protocol.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And the reason why was not because he failed the
- 7:33Speaker 1: concussion tests. In fact, my understanding is he passed the
- 7:36Speaker 1: concussion tests in the locker room by various doctors, as
- 7:41Speaker 1: is based on the concussion Protocol. What the spotter believed
- 7:45Speaker 1: he saw was that Bridgewater experience a taxia, which is
- 7:48Speaker 1: a word that has existed for a very long time,
- 7:51Speaker 1: but it just entered the NFL community on Saturday when
- 7:54Speaker 1: it became part of the no go rules in the
- 7:57Speaker 1: new Concussion Protocol. In other words, if a player shows it,
- 8:00Speaker 1: if if it seems that a player is experiencing some
- 8:03Speaker 1: sort of motor dis function, then he can be taken
- 8:07Speaker 1: immediately off the field, regardless of I would say a doctor,
- 8:12Speaker 1: a team doctor, or a U n C ruling it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That is what was determined in the Teddy Bridgewater situation.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So he is in the NFL's concussion Protocol now officially
- 8:21Speaker 1: and must go through all the steps in order to
- 8:23Speaker 1: get cleared going forward. And he and that is an
- 8:25Speaker 1: important distinction here because even though the Dolphins say that
- 8:28Speaker 1: Teddy Bridgewater passed all the traditional concussion tests, he is
- 8:31Speaker 1: now treated because he exhibited those symptoms that were spotted
- 8:35Speaker 1: by the a t C spot or he has treated
- 8:37Speaker 1: like any other player who suffers a concussion, and it
- 8:40Speaker 1: can be a series of steps here, including being cleared
- 8:42Speaker 1: by the independent neurologist before he is permitted to get
- 8:46Speaker 1: back onto the field. This also raises something else that
- 8:49Speaker 1: we're going to see the rest of this season, which
- 8:52Speaker 1: is you're going to have situations where players do not
- 8:55Speaker 1: have concussions and nonetheless are pulled off of the field.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That is something that Dr Allen Sells, the NFL's chief
- 9:03Speaker 1: medical officer, said that the league and union are willing
- 9:06Speaker 1: to accept in other words, and I'm paraphrase and Sills here,
- 9:09Speaker 1: they would rather be pulling players off the field who
- 9:11Speaker 1: don't have concussions and leave a player on the field
- 9:14Speaker 1: with the concussion that they were unable to diagnose. I
- 9:18Speaker 1: would also guarantee you they are going to be situations
- 9:20Speaker 1: for the course of the season where the players who
- 9:22Speaker 1: are pulled off the field are going to express some frustration.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But again, that is where we are at as a league.
- 9:29Speaker 1: That is what the union wanted to push for. They
- 9:32Speaker 1: don't want to have another situation like what they had
- 9:34Speaker 1: with to a tongue of Valoa, even though everyone involves
- 9:36Speaker 1: insists he did not have a concussion. And so you're
- 9:39Speaker 1: going to have more situations like what we saw yesterday
- 9:41Speaker 1: with Teddy Bridgewater in the league and union hope that's
- 9:44Speaker 1: for the betterment of the league going forward. And it
- 9:45Speaker 1: just so happened that the first situation in which we
- 9:48Speaker 1: see this is with the Dolphins and undrafted rookie Skyler
- 9:52Speaker 1: Thompson came into quarterback made some plays to his credit
- 9:55Speaker 1: kit at of Kansas State. It was still a two
- 9:57Speaker 1: point game of the fourth quarter, Dolphins were definitely in
- 9:59Speaker 1: a raheem most our best game as a Dolphin. In
- 10:01Speaker 1: the end of the Jets pull away and put forty
- 10:03Speaker 1: on the board, and now the Dolphins hopefully get Teddy
- 10:07Speaker 1: bridge Border back at one point. Let's get to the
- 10:09Speaker 1: Browns here, tom. They had another heartbreaking loss, another game
- 10:12Speaker 1: in which Jacobe Priced plays reasonably well but then throws
- 10:14Speaker 1: a big pick late in the game. They still had
- 10:16Speaker 1: a chance to win somehow because of a Brandon Stay
- 10:19Speaker 1: fourth now decision. But today is different because today Deshaun
- 10:24Speaker 1: Watson is let back in the building tell us what
- 10:27Speaker 1: he can and can't do ander. Deshaun Watson is able
- 10:30Speaker 1: to do practically everything his teammates are doing, except practice,
- 10:34Speaker 1: player even attend the games. He is allowed to be
- 10:37Speaker 1: in the building as you mentioned, starting today, and is
- 10:39Speaker 1: in fact in the building. He can meet individually with
- 10:43Speaker 1: the head coach, the offensive coordinator, and the quarterbacks coach.
- 10:46Speaker 1: He can do rehab and treatment, he can do individual workouts,
- 10:50Speaker 1: he can meet with the non football people within the building,
- 10:53Speaker 1: but again cannot practice. That's not going to start until
- 10:56Speaker 1: November four, and cannot play until December four against his
- 11:00Speaker 1: old team, the Texans at Houston. Now Deshaun Watson, of course,
- 11:04Speaker 1: suspended eleven games amids serious allegations of sexual misconduct. That
- 11:09Speaker 1: is something that is played out through the core process
- 11:11Speaker 1: as well as through the NFL process. As part of
- 11:14Speaker 1: the settlement on that eleven game suspension, he was required
- 11:17Speaker 1: to undergo an evaluation by clinician jointly selected by the
- 11:20Speaker 1: NFL and nfl p A. That has happened. The Shawn
- 11:23Speaker 1: Watson is in regular mandatory counseling, and that is something
- 11:27Speaker 1: that he has to keep up with throughout the terms
- 11:30Speaker 1: here of his suspension. And alright, he is not yet
- 11:32Speaker 1: ready obviously to come back to a team, a team
- 11:34Speaker 1: that that he and even with Miles Garrett and Jadaveon
- 11:37Speaker 1: Clowney back could not stop the run. Chargers came into
- 11:41Speaker 1: yesterday the best rushing team, rather the worst rushing team
- 11:44Speaker 1: in football, and gashed him for nearly three yards. And
- 11:47Speaker 1: then immediately after the game, the Browns made a trade.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And this is a trade that had been in the
- 11:51Speaker 1: works for really the last several days, but was finalized
- 11:54Speaker 1: last night. Dion Jones, the former All former Pro bowler
- 11:58Speaker 1: for the Atlanta Faco who had been one of the
- 12:00Speaker 1: better linebackers in the NFL for some time. It is
- 12:02Speaker 1: currently on injured reserve dealing with they shoulder or injury,
- 12:05Speaker 1: has been traded to the Cleveland Browns. It is a
- 12:08Speaker 1: late round pick swap in the draft, and for Dion Jones,
- 12:12Speaker 1: who's only said to make the minimum this year, mainly
- 12:15Speaker 1: because the Falcons restructured his contract, it is essentially a
- 12:18Speaker 1: rental for the Browns this year. Hope to get some
- 12:21Speaker 1: defensive help and for the Falcons just another chance to
- 12:24Speaker 1: move on from a really really bad contract. For that
- 12:27Speaker 1: regime that has had to do this just too many times.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Matt Ryan to Indy Dion Jones to Cleveland Anthony Walker.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Remember on T and F a couple of weeks ago,
- 12:35Speaker 1: uh torn quad out for the year, linebacker for the Browns.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Thank you, Ian, Thank you Tom. Gentlemen, We continue at
- 12:40Speaker 1: a NFL now with some focus on the Philadelphia Eagles
- 12:43Speaker 1: as well. They deserved. They are four no heading into
- 12:45Speaker 1: Arizona yesterday to face Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.
- 12:49Speaker 1: They're five and oh by now if you haven't figured
- 12:51Speaker 1: it out. They got out to the early lead. They
- 12:53Speaker 1: lead the league and rushing touchdowns. Miles Sanders had wood earlier.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Jalen Hurds hadwood here, it's fourteen. Did nothing. The Cardinals
- 12:59Speaker 1: starts slowly. You've heard this story before, but in the end,
- 13:02Speaker 1: it came down to matt Ammon Dola. Matt Amndola, Texan
- 13:06Speaker 1: and chief in the last two months, missing wide right
- 13:10Speaker 1: from forty three yards could have sent it to overtime instead. Sorry,
- 13:14Speaker 1: Cliff Nick Serriani. Jayalen hurts the Eagles. They're finding out
- 13:17Speaker 1: speech that's fine. Three with the fine, just fine. That
- 13:30Speaker 1: whole groups a bunch of warriors. That's sixty two is
- 13:34Speaker 1: a warrior. Yeah, he laid it on the line. He
- 13:40Speaker 1: laid it on the line for you guys. He was
- 13:42Speaker 1: hard and hard, and he came on. He came out
- 13:44Speaker 1: and kept playing for you guys. And I know a
- 13:45Speaker 1: lot of you guys did that. I'm freaking proud of you. Guys. Hey,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I got one more thing. I talked enough. I talked
- 13:51Speaker 1: off all week, right, I talked on Monday, I talked
- 13:54Speaker 1: on Wednesday. I talked on Saturday. I talked on Saturday night.
- 13:58Speaker 1: So you're not gonna hear me tomorrow because I'll tell
- 14:00Speaker 1: you what day. End of the game to try to
- 14:04Speaker 1: go to six and oh with the Cowboys, Dick Serrianti,
- 14:06Speaker 1: they're referring to number sixty two. That's Jason Kelsey, their center,
- 14:10Speaker 1: who left the game with an injury, came back, finished
- 14:13Speaker 1: the game. A game in which High There White, High There,
- 14:17Speaker 1: Mark Ross, a game in which Mark the Eagles remained
- 14:21Speaker 1: the only undefeated team of the NFL. First time we
- 14:25Speaker 1: can say that we continue with that since two thousand
- 14:27Speaker 1: and four. What did you see with your former team? Yes,
- 14:32Speaker 1: a long time ago former team, but the Eagles resiliency
- 14:36Speaker 1: and versatility is what impresses me the most. Yes, they're
- 14:39Speaker 1: five and oh, but they really have one in all
- 14:42Speaker 1: kinds of different ways. Of course, we know they're prolific
- 14:44Speaker 1: in the second quarter, but they've shown they can get
- 14:47Speaker 1: in shootouts with Detroit and score a lot of points
- 14:49Speaker 1: and hold off. They've shown their defense can dominate a
- 14:52Speaker 1: Washington team and the Minnesota team. They've shown their offense
- 14:55Speaker 1: can be prolific and come back when they're down against Jacksonville.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And then yesterday they showed that they can just run
- 15:01Speaker 1: the ball, Jalen Hurst, make timely plays, the defense hold
- 15:04Speaker 1: tight in a grinded out sort of game. So they're
- 15:07Speaker 1: winning in all sorts of different ways, with different players
- 15:10Speaker 1: stepping up at different times. And that's what makes this
- 15:14Speaker 1: team so good. It's not just relying on one aspect
- 15:18Speaker 1: of their team or one aspect of their offense. Is
- 15:21Speaker 1: that they've shown the ability to win in different ways.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And to me, that's really the sign of good and
- 15:27Speaker 1: great and super Bowl caliber caliber teams. Uh. And you
- 15:31Speaker 1: can put their style up against anybody and they kind
- 15:35Speaker 1: of have an answer and how do you defend or
- 15:37Speaker 1: how do you stop them? Because they can beat you
- 15:39Speaker 1: in so many different ways. Steve so I was high
- 15:42Speaker 1: on the Eagles coming into the season was my Super
- 15:44Speaker 1: Bowl pick, and I'm just sticking with that, especially when
- 15:47Speaker 1: you look at the landscape of the season in the schedule. Okay,
- 15:50Speaker 1: all right, Mark, I see feeling yourself a little bit
- 15:53Speaker 1: right now, But look, this is situation and you nailed
- 15:57Speaker 1: a couple of points here. The fact that they're versatile
- 15:59Speaker 1: can win different ways, right. We see teams that are
- 16:01Speaker 1: success will be able to do this. This is a
- 16:03Speaker 1: grind it out game, as it it earlier. If there
- 16:06Speaker 1: was a time when the Eagle is gonna get caught slipping,
- 16:08Speaker 1: it was this game. They knew they had to play
- 16:09Speaker 1: in Arizona, a team that's been up and down. They've
- 16:12Speaker 1: got Dallas coming in next week, a red hot Dallas team.
- 16:15Speaker 1: So this is the one they can take the eye
- 16:16Speaker 1: off the prize. But defensively they make plays. I mean,
- 16:20Speaker 1: you talked about some of the different ways they can
- 16:22Speaker 1: play on offense, but defensively to this is a high
- 16:24Speaker 1: takeaway team, right. This is a team that you see
- 16:26Speaker 1: right there another pick. The fact that they're doing the takeaways,
- 16:29Speaker 1: the fact that they can pressure the quarterback, the fact
- 16:31Speaker 1: that they can stop those are all very good signs.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So now that they can dig into a whole different
- 16:37Speaker 1: vat of ways to win ball game. That's gonna play
- 16:40Speaker 1: out well for them, especially in an NFC East dare
- 16:42Speaker 1: I say it is the best division in football right now.
- 16:45Speaker 1: So again, Jalen Hurts, the leadership, They've shown the confidence
- 16:49Speaker 1: they have in those themselves. You're Nick Sirianni talking about
- 16:52Speaker 1: Kelsey toughing it out. They've got something special going right there.
- 16:55Speaker 1: So they've got to carry it on and this game
- 16:57Speaker 1: against Dallas, I mean, this is going to be a
- 17:01Speaker 1: very good game. But I think this defense can put
- 17:03Speaker 1: it on Cooper Rush. We keep talk talking about the
- 17:05Speaker 1: quarterback win thing with Cooper Rush. The defense can continue
- 17:08Speaker 1: to play the way that it's playing, especially with the takeaways.
- 17:11Speaker 1: It is going to be a very very very good
- 17:14Speaker 1: game this weekend. Yeah, it's gonna be It's gonna be
- 17:19Speaker 1: a great game. A lot of a lot of excitement there.
- 17:21Speaker 1: You know, being up growing up in Philly, we hated Dallas.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Man at phillip fans here we got anything more they
- 17:27Speaker 1: hate Dallas. So man, this this is going I might
- 17:30Speaker 1: have to just go down and check that one out.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a weekend of it. You've got Philly's
- 17:33Speaker 1: braves and lds Friday, at least potentially Saturday as well.
- 17:38Speaker 1: See Steve's a Cardinal fan. Yeah, it was bad that
- 17:42Speaker 1: the Phillies meet the Cardinals. I don't I don't even
- 17:44Speaker 1: follow baseball. Did that happen? Wow? Did you? Did you
- 17:48Speaker 1: see what happened? And himself right now herts apologized by
- 17:54Speaker 1: the way for not do a touchdown on that final drive.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Tift Field book coming up next, trying to make sense
- 17:59Speaker 1: of that roughing the passer call in Tampa. We have
- 18:03Speaker 1: the rule book. We'll read it to you. All right.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Tom Brady hasn't lost three consecutive starts. You'd like the
- 18:11Speaker 1: quarterback win stat in twenty years. It's been three hundred
- 18:15Speaker 1: regular season games. He's also never lost to the Falcons.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Had to big early lead, allow myself to hold up
- 18:20Speaker 1: a fathead of myself, Leonard four net and they're up
- 18:23Speaker 1: twenty one to nothing. But all of a sudden, the
- 18:24Speaker 1: Falcons come back. They're about to get Grady off the field.
- 18:27Speaker 1: They do Brady jared a sack and the Falcons are
- 18:30Speaker 1: getting the ball back. Wait, wait, your own burger called
- 18:34Speaker 1: roughing the pastor. That's fifteen yards, Arthur Smith, my bucks Wine,
- 18:44Speaker 1: but one sack. At the end of the game, they
- 18:46Speaker 1: called him for roughing the passer. Um, you know so
- 18:49Speaker 1: extends to driving. You're able to go off the field.
- 18:51Speaker 1: What did you think of that play? Had you been
- 18:54Speaker 1: lobbying or asking for some late hits there? I don't
- 18:59Speaker 1: throw the flags, he does not throw the flags. We'll
- 19:03Speaker 1: throw it to some social media reaction us from future
- 19:05Speaker 1: Hall of Famer Julius Peppers, I just saw the Tom
- 19:08Speaker 1: Brady call. All Boger had to do was just come
- 19:11Speaker 1: out and say my fault. I missed the call and
- 19:13Speaker 1: you have to respect it. Any other explanation is unacceptable.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Dwight Freeny may one day find himself with a gold
- 19:19Speaker 1: jacket as well. He said, could somebody explain to me
- 19:21Speaker 1: or the football fan base any other way to tackle Brady?
- 19:24Speaker 1: And I think that's the key question here in that situation,
- 19:27Speaker 1: maybe we should just go back to the playground days
- 19:30Speaker 1: and to and touch it. Peppers and Freedy combined for
- 19:33Speaker 1: two five career sacks. Just so you know, in some
- 19:36Speaker 1: context here it is rule twelve Steve Article eleven paragraph
- 19:40Speaker 1: beat when tackling a pastor. This is from the rule book,
- 19:42Speaker 1: who's in a defenseless position, the defensive player must not unnecessarily,
- 19:47Speaker 1: which is what Jerome Boger said after the game of
- 19:49Speaker 1: the full report, or violently throw him down or land
- 19:53Speaker 1: on top of him with all or most of the
- 19:56Speaker 1: defenders weight. Unnecessarily is the key word here, because that
- 20:02Speaker 1: is what Jerome Boger said after the game. He d
- 20:05Speaker 1: that the motion Grady Jarrett made to take Brady to
- 20:08Speaker 1: the ground was unnecessary. We could debate the unnecessary part
- 20:15Speaker 1: of it, but Boger used language from the rule book
- 20:19Speaker 1: in his explanation afterwards. Sarah Walsh, you're at that game.
- 20:24Speaker 1: What was everyone else saying? Well, first of all, I'd
- 20:28Speaker 1: like to give some credit to Grady Jarrett and Arthur
- 20:30Speaker 1: Smith because the way they handled it. If that happened
- 20:34Speaker 1: against the Buccaneers and Bruce Arians was on the sideline,
- 20:37Speaker 1: what do you think would have happened next? The next
- 20:38Speaker 1: tackle in that game would have been made by Bruce Arians.
- 20:41Speaker 1: He would have completely lost it. So I thought those
- 20:44Speaker 1: guys really handled it well. I can tell you from
- 20:46Speaker 1: the Bucks side of things. In the locker room afterwards,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Look you saw Tom Brady didn't want to touch, you said,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I don't throw the flags. Mike Evans was asked, Hey,
- 20:55Speaker 1: are you happy about the way that this league is
- 20:56Speaker 1: protecting quarterbacks? And he knew what they were getting at,
- 20:59Speaker 1: and he kind of long paused and said, yeah, sure,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I'm happy about it today. I thought, Rakim Nunia Roaches,
- 21:05Speaker 1: who's the defensive tackle for the Buccaneers known as Nacho
- 21:07Speaker 1: down here, I thought he said it very well. He said, look,
- 21:11Speaker 1: it helped us today, there's no question. But as a
- 21:14Speaker 1: defensive guy, we're not out here trying to brutally hurt people.
- 21:17Speaker 1: And he said it's making defenses softer. And he said, well, yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 1: they can be happy that that call went their way yesterday.
- 21:23Speaker 1: He said, if it's me in that position and I
- 21:25Speaker 1: do something like that, you're not thinking you're hurting anybody.
- 21:28Speaker 1: You're not thinking you're hurting your team, and you could
- 21:30Speaker 1: be hurting your team. So I thought he had a
- 21:32Speaker 1: really well thought out response to that, trying to see
- 21:34Speaker 1: it from the other side of things being a defensive player.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And then it's funny you put up that Dwight Freeney
- 21:39Speaker 1: tweet about which maybe we should go back to two
- 21:41Speaker 1: hand touched. Todd Bowles was asked about that today. If
- 21:44Speaker 1: the league would dial it back even more sort of
- 21:46Speaker 1: like what you've seen now happened with the Pro Bowl
- 21:48Speaker 1: and and go back to the two hand touch or
- 21:50Speaker 1: be softer and bowls. Who's clearly a defensive guy, said,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I hope I'm out of the league by the time
- 21:55Speaker 1: that happens. Steve, Yeah, Look, you know, here's a couple
- 21:58Speaker 1: of the two. Saw the explanation if you watched the
- 22:00Speaker 1: gratie here at play. This is how the textbook teaching
- 22:03Speaker 1: is what they call a rugby tame. Right where you
- 22:06Speaker 1: are are the alligator tack alright, you you wrap your
- 22:08Speaker 1: arms around him and then you roll him. Grady Jarrett
- 22:12Speaker 1: is not a dirty player. He is not known as
- 22:14Speaker 1: a dirty He is not sup plexing or slamming tip.
- 22:18Speaker 1: He rolls it on top of him, right, So he's
- 22:20Speaker 1: not trying to hurt him. Question, is that necessary? That's
- 22:24Speaker 1: that's necessary as the rule. Yeah, and Tom Brady is
- 22:26Speaker 1: not a little guy. Right, Here's a big guy, so
- 22:28Speaker 1: you've got to bring him down. But here's why this
- 22:30Speaker 1: is so important, and this is why people are up
- 22:32Speaker 1: in arms. The falcons were rolling, they were coming back back,
- 22:35Speaker 1: they were about to come back look at the field
- 22:38Speaker 1: position right there, right at midfield. So if they take
- 22:39Speaker 1: au put the way the offensive and playing an opportunity
- 22:42Speaker 1: to come back and win the ball game. Because remember
- 22:45Speaker 1: on the previous drive the score touchdown convert the two
- 22:47Speaker 1: point conversion. But also prior to that Grady Jarrett play
- 22:51Speaker 1: on a third down, there was a ticky tack defensive
- 22:53Speaker 1: holding on a J. Terrell which was also very questionable.
- 22:56Speaker 1: There also could have been a dp I downfield. There
- 22:59Speaker 1: could have been that, but for the Falcons to have
- 23:01Speaker 1: that on two third downs on consecutive third downs, that
- 23:05Speaker 1: compounded the angst to all of this. Do not deny this,
- 23:09Speaker 1: especially when they had an opportunity to win it. And Sarah,
- 23:12Speaker 1: we can't deny this. The fact that happening against Tom Brady,
- 23:15Speaker 1: and he has gotten so many favorable calls going back
- 23:19Speaker 1: to the fumble, however you want to call it the
- 23:23Speaker 1: Chris Jones play and the NFC Championship game against the Chiefs,
- 23:26Speaker 1: that only compounds the reaction to what we've seen. And
- 23:29Speaker 1: we all know if you watch any Tom Brady game,
- 23:31Speaker 1: he's not afraid to get a little chatty there with
- 23:33Speaker 1: the reps real quickly before I sign off with you, guys.
- 23:35Speaker 1: The Bucks won this game, and you know, football players
- 23:37Speaker 1: will always say, hey, we would rather win ugly than
- 23:39Speaker 1: lose and look good while we were losing. They're happy
- 23:42Speaker 1: that they got the loss. But being in that locker
- 23:43Speaker 1: room yesterday, this team was so far from satisfied. It
- 23:46Speaker 1: almost sort of felt like a loss when you were
- 23:48Speaker 1: in there. They got the win, they've got control of
- 23:50Speaker 1: the NFC South, but Mike Evans sort of summed up
- 23:52Speaker 1: the feelings of everybody in there. He said, no excuses,
- 23:55Speaker 1: we have to be better. They really thought they let
- 23:57Speaker 1: their foot off the gas. So look they've got the win.
- 24:00Speaker 1: They've got to lead in the division. But by no
- 24:02Speaker 1: means with this this celebratory feeling yesterday day here in Tampa,
- 24:06Speaker 1: they've got their eyes on certainly bigger aspirations than what
- 24:09Speaker 1: happened yesterday. Guys. Okay, I just want to add one
- 24:12Speaker 1: little note here from research, total number of roughing the
- 24:15Speaker 1: pass or calls for Tom Brady the last two years.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I wouldn't do that because it's not what you think.
- 24:23Speaker 1: It's not what you think. I'm just I'm just eager
- 24:26Speaker 1: to here four or five to one this year, the
- 24:31Speaker 1: one yesterday and Grady Jared one in all of two
- 24:35Speaker 1: years ago for the Super Bowl sprising. There you go
- 24:37Speaker 1: to that surprising. So those are just numbers. I don't
- 24:43Speaker 1: think the action was unnecessary. I don't think it was
- 24:46Speaker 1: unnecessarily throwing it down. That's my opinion sitting from here.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I also know no why Aaron Rodgers was throwing a
- 24:52Speaker 1: back shoulder to Alan Lazard there. I don't know that
- 24:54Speaker 1: the class was going to be complete anyway. But how
- 24:56Speaker 1: about the Giants there? Four and one, that's next man. Normally,
- 25:04Speaker 1: normally this game would be the headline here, but we
- 25:06Speaker 1: had so much other stuff going on yesterday, plus that
- 25:09Speaker 1: role news. Today it's three and one Kansas City, it
- 25:13Speaker 1: is one in three Las Vegas. It is Monday Night Football.
- 25:16Speaker 1: It is the games, James James Palmer live with us
- 25:19Speaker 1: at Arrowhead now ahead of the conclusion to week number five.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Or the Raiders are trying to figure out their one
- 25:25Speaker 1: possession situation here but not winning these one possession games.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But maybe the offense is coming around after last week, James,
- 25:32Speaker 1: what's the story, Andrew? It's coming around. I think we
- 25:34Speaker 1: all know. The Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnoll has been
- 25:37Speaker 1: around for a minute, right, He's seen a thing or two.
- 25:39Speaker 1: When he watches this Raiders offense. He believes it's going
- 25:42Speaker 1: to explode this season. He's just hoping it doesn't happen
- 25:44Speaker 1: tonight against his defense. What we've seen added to that
- 25:48Speaker 1: mix is obviously the running game, with Josh Jacobs running
- 25:50Speaker 1: for a career high a hundred and forty four yards
- 25:53Speaker 1: against the Broncos a week ago, leading Josh McDaniels. The
- 25:56Speaker 1: head coaches say after the game, I believe Jacobs is
- 25:59Speaker 1: one of the best running backs in all of football.
- 26:00Speaker 1: But what's happening when they run the football early. It's
- 26:03Speaker 1: allowing McDaniels to see how teams are lining up against
- 26:07Speaker 1: his wide receivers. In his past catchers, and now the
- 26:10Speaker 1: third one is added back into the mix. Hunter Renfro
- 26:13Speaker 1: returns from that concussion he sustained at the end of
- 26:15Speaker 1: the game in Week two. So the Chiefs acknowledged all
- 26:18Speaker 1: week we can't just bracket Davante Adams, we can't just
- 26:21Speaker 1: bracket Darren Waller. We have all three of them we
- 26:24Speaker 1: have to worry about, and as they run the football,
- 26:26Speaker 1: it adds to the mix of how this Raiders offense operates,
- 26:30Speaker 1: So they all believe in Kansas City that Derek Carr
- 26:33Speaker 1: will find the open guys spread the football around Andrew.
- 26:36Speaker 1: They're just hoping it doesn't start to explode tonight against
- 26:39Speaker 1: their defense, but they do expect the Raiders to come around.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And Patrick Mahomes has certainly been spreading the ball around
- 26:44Speaker 1: without Tyreek Hill. That's been the story we've been talking
- 26:47Speaker 1: about now for months. But we should also still remind
- 26:51Speaker 1: people that this offense with or without Tyreek Hill goes
- 26:55Speaker 1: through Travis Kelsey. It does Andrew. We keep talking every
- 27:00Speaker 1: single week, what's gonna be different without Tyreek Hill. Well, like,
- 27:03Speaker 1: let's talk about what's the same. It's it does go
- 27:05Speaker 1: through Travis Kelsey, and he comes into this game number
- 27:09Speaker 1: one in the NFL among tight ends and yards in catches,
- 27:12Speaker 1: in touchdowns. And Patrick Mahomes said it this week, even
- 27:15Speaker 1: though he's getting older, he turned thirty three this week,
- 27:17Speaker 1: he's not gonna take a screen pass eighty yards to
- 27:20Speaker 1: the house, he said. What he is doing is he
- 27:22Speaker 1: keeps getting smarter each and every year, each and every game,
- 27:24Speaker 1: to where he doesn't just line up and try to
- 27:26Speaker 1: beat press man and use his physicality like the old days.
- 27:29Speaker 1: He finds ways to have more freedoms in the offense.
- 27:32Speaker 1: They move him around with some more motion and he
- 27:34Speaker 1: uses the other players on the field, the other concepts
- 27:36Speaker 1: within the play to just be more savvy and find
- 27:39Speaker 1: ways to get open. Now, Mahomes says, once that starts
- 27:42Speaker 1: getting rolling early, it opens things up for other guys
- 27:45Speaker 1: within this offense like Juju Smith Schuster, who is battling
- 27:48Speaker 1: a hamstring injury is questionable, is expected to play tonight,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm told. But what it also does, Andrew, is it
- 27:54Speaker 1: helps us offensive line. When Mahomes gets rid of the
- 27:56Speaker 1: football quickly, they show all these different looks to a
- 27:58Speaker 1: defensive line early. It helps the offensive line push that
- 28:02Speaker 1: defensive line in the run game. Something that the Chiefs,
- 28:05Speaker 1: as we talked about without Tyreek Hill right, try to evolve.
- 28:07Speaker 1: They want to run the football more. They were extremely
- 28:09Speaker 1: balanced last week against Tampa Bay. That's something they'd like
- 28:12Speaker 1: to do in this game tonight against the Raiders, trying
- 28:14Speaker 1: to get the Foreign one hopefully about looking ahead as
- 28:17Speaker 1: we set up a Foreign one battle potentially next week
- 28:20Speaker 1: with the Bills, a playoff rematch. James Palmer, I think
- 28:23Speaker 1: I think I have that tie Is that from the
- 28:25Speaker 1: tie bar? Yeah, good looking green tie there. We have that.
- 28:28Speaker 1: D to go, Buddy, James Palmer Live at Arrowhead. NFL
