- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome back to the Brave Social Podcast.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Jaden, and today we have a very special guest, Brie.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Bree is the face behind Socially Brain Media.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: She's amazing.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I have to tell you a little story.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: When I first started getting into social media management, I was so nervous.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I had such imposter syndrome.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: I was like, I can't freaking do this.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I'm doing.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Scheduled a call with Brie.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And she was like, babe, you can do it.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Like, I promise, you can do it.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And I was like, you're right, I can.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I owe so much of my business to Brie for that.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: She was just like that little push I needed to actually like get after it.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: So to have her on the podcast is so exciting.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And we're just so glad you're here.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Hello.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Um, little backstory.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Me and Jaden also work together on reverence.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: We have a client in um in whatever that's called, Common.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: New York.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, in New York.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, in New York.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: I was like, she's in New York, but yes, she's also in Common.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Literally, I'm like just rambling.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Um, but no, yeah, so I am pretty much a social media manager.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I do things a little differently.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: People love it, and some people hate it, and that's just what it is.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Um, no, but I think the kind of route I like to take is very real, authentic storytelling, and just really learning your target audience because we're social media managers, we're gonna call you out when you just don't hit the nail.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Um, and there's just so much misinformation on social media between fast reels and all this stuff.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: And listen, some of the information can be good, um, but it's really good to know that like not everyone's strategy is going to work for you, and that is what I really try to encapsulate in my content.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: So I like to think about it as like I'm Hannah Montana in a way, like on my my business page, you don't see much of me.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I'm popping in here and there.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Um, but I really like I guess people know me from my tone of voice, and that's what I really wanted, and that's what I really tried to incorporate with my clients as well.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I think I actually started about three years ago, and I just started seeing growth last year in January, so it's like slow and steady wins the race for two years.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I was saying stagnant, I had like no followers, I was talking to the wall, and I wasn't making waves, I was making logos, and uh my name was Logos X Bree, and it's like girl, you couldn't have come like anything better.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: So now, if you email me, you'll know that my email is logos X Bree.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I never changed it.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I love that backstory because I never knew why it was Logos X-Bree because I think I I think we had our first coaching call like about a year ago, maybe a little longer than a year ago, but yeah, and I was like, it interesting, like, was she a graphic designer?
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: But I get it now.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: I was like a wannabe graphic designer, I was in Canva with the gold elements and all that fun stuff, and uh watercolor, if you will.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: It was tragic, like really tragic.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I then ventured off, learned strategy, and I think a lot of people seem to forget that with so like social media management is a job.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: People hire people in corporate places to be a social media manager, to be an email campaign manager, all of that.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: So it's like college is extremely valuable.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: People seem to forget that those business classes, those marketing classes are extremely valuable.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: They're just like, oh, get the next course, get this ebook, get this and that, and you'll have all the information you need.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: And it's like that can work.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Listen, I haven't finished college yet, I'm still in college, but I attribute most of my knowledge to the classes that I've taken in school because it's real crap.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I I feel like I feel both ways about it, but like my I'm I have a college degree in marketing, like I have a bachelor's degree of marketing, and I do feel like it has helped me a lot with like especially business foundations.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Yes, and honestly for like discernment too, just like when I'm looking at these courses that are for sale, like I'm really able to tell, like, is this something that is going to help me, or is this just like fluff?
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Which there's different courses for every level and every different person, so no shame.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: But no, of course, it really has helped me like be like if I am gonna take this course, like is it worth it?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Is it something I need to know?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Is it more of a trade course or is it more of like an education?
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I mean, I I'm really glad I have my degree.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: I I feel like I use it.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Um I also feel like you don't have to have one, but yeah, I mean, totally useful.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, something I really wanted to talk to you about is being a conscious business owner, because this is something that we've kind of been talking about like in our DMs, is like, how can we be conscious business owners?
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: How can we use empathy?
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: How can we be honest, and how can we be like just use more discernment in our own businesses?
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Um so why don't you tell me about that?
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, okay, so I am I've been hitting the ground running with day de-influencing, debunking, all of that fun stuff.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: We're seeing it all over TikTok, we're seeing it all over Instagram.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I follow so many people whose business is literally to teach you how to spend your money and what not to spend your money on.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: And I feel like after 2020, we had COVID and all that stuff, everyone was looking for the next best thing: self-care.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: They want to feel good about themselves, so they're gonna spend hundreds of dollars getting clothes and being the it girl and all these trends and phases and all of that stuff that ends up phasing out.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: They're like, Okay, well, I need to be the it girl, I need to be the clean girl, I need to be this, I need to be that.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: And it's like I did see this podcast clip the other day.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: It was a little bit sexist, but like it was kind of true.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Like, not for nothing, they say, like, you don't see men, and not a lot of men who are following these types of trends because they're not for them.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: A lot of consumerism is done.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Targeted towards women.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: So we're getting all of these workout sets.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: You want to look like the girl on the model, get this set, get this, da da da.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: And it's like that is so damaging for our minds, and I know that's what marketing is.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: And I had a little tiff the other day with someone in my captions or comments, they were like, This post is awful.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Oh my god, thanks, Bessie.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And he was like, You don't know marketing, you don't know anything about marketing, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Oh, really?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I just kept saying thank you, and um, because like I love trolling back, like, you're not about to come on my page.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Curse at me, be mean to me, and I'm not gonna be back.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, then after that, he was just like, You don't know how the economy works, you have to put out to get back, and blah blah blah, and all of a sudden.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay, but you're not understanding what I'm saying.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: I was like, This is the first post.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, you're talking about like ethical marketing and ethical consumption and all like that is also a part of marketing, too.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And he was just coming at my neck at the end of this TIFF, if you will, he decides to plug himself.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh, I build brands.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Bestie, no one's coming to you to build their brand.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Like, no one is and if they are, godspeed.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: But with that being said, I think the way that people can be conscious, and I have a client who is actually implementing this in the new year and now, is they do dermal skin therapy.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So the treatments are expensive.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: What they did was is they put together a package of memberships for their you know clients, and they said, Okay, here are X amount of treatments for less of a price, so that way you're getting all of these treatments, you're taking care of yourself, falling into that self-care category without breaking your bank every time that you're going.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: So I think we don't need to stop selling.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: I think that's what a lot of people are getting confused with.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: They're like, oh, you know, we can't just stop selling and all this stuff.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no, that's not what I'm saying.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Read.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: I'm saying that what we can do is be conscious in the way that we are marketing towards them.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Understand that in certain seasons of your business, not every single product that you offer is, you know, needed.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: That's a hundred percent it.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: And it's not about not selling, it's I mean, we're kind of talking about the economy right now a little bit because you know, when the economy's booming and people are spending all this extra money, it's like, okay, whatever.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: People have disposable income, it's fine.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Marketing however you want.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, don't market sleazy, but you know, it's a little, it's more like, okay.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: But when we're in these economic times that are a little bit more challenging, businesses have to maybe change the way they're marketing.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Like, for example, this is one that I've used for a hairstylist.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: She was saying, like, you know, I'm I'm really expensive, I do extensions.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, yeah, I get that.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: One way you can position yourself and get more pe more clients so you can increase your revenue is by educating people on how to do hairstyles that extend the length of their extensions lasting.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Like, how do you make your extensions last longer?
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: What hair coloring techniques, like can you do a balayage that will last longer between appointments so that you don't have to get your hair done every six weeks?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: You can come in every 10 weeks, every 12 weeks, and you can serve more clients that way.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: So you're you're not taking an economic hit, but your clients are also not having to spend quite as much money each time.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: And I that's because the economy is the way that it is.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: If, like I said, if it was booming, then whatever.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: But like you're saying also with the facials, is that if you can package it and maybe do like a lower ticket offer, so maybe it's a monthly subscription that is essentially like a savings account for for them to come get these offers, you're gonna have more people that can afford that.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: And it's also just more ethical because people aren't spending like way more than they can afford, it's more of a bite-sized purchase.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: And the funny thing is, too, is I'm I'm 100% real on my page.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Like, I am a college student, I have to pay rent.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: I moved out at a young age because you know, I was just like, let's go.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: It seemed like a fairy tale in my head, and then I actually did it, and I was like, Oh, I live in New Jersey.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, so it's gonna be really expensive, understood.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, okay.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: So I was just like, really, I took a huge financial hit, and I was starting, I wasn't starting my business at the time, I kind of had it in place, but it wasn't as successful as it is now.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: And even now, as it is successful, I have to pay, I have people on payroll, so yeah, I'm paying my employees every single week.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I also have a lot of expenses as a business owner.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: I have subscriptions.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: One photo subscription for me is$99 a month.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Like, it is a lot of money, but it is useful.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: And I saw the other day this TikTok, I had posted about it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: It was like, you know, normal people back then, my mom never got facials every month, my mom never bought clothes all the time, my mom didn't get her nails done every two weeks.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: My mom did like the things that people are normalizing now to do, like, oh yes, you need a monthly facial, you need this, you need that.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: If your target, if your target market is people who are uh wealthier and you're more of a luxury type of service, fine.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: But these normal estheticians and these normal, you know, brands that are kind of small businesses, pushing that down people's throats, it's like no one's going to relate with you because people can't even afford their groceries.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: I'm extremely lucky that I can fill my freaking fridge.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: I'm extremely lucky that I can pay my rent every month because yeah, I offer, you know, certain services, but my services, I like to keep them affordable.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: I work with brands that I've been working with for a while.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: So we're not constantly up charging and and charging them so much money.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: It's like there's value in services, yes.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: But for me, I'm only offering Instagram.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: So why am I gonna charge 3k plus a month that doesn't make any sense?
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Charging a rate for what you're delivering.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: This is a conversation I have with a lot of SMMs, is like it's like you need to charge a rate that makes sense.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And like with social media, ROIs are a little bit more difficult.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: So if you're in an industry where if you're in an industry where you can give an ROI, you can charge a lot more money because you can say, look, guaranteed 3% return or whatever it is, but social media, it's not like that.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: And we do provide a lot of value.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Like I am not discounting that whatsoever.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: And also we work our asses off and should be 100% for sure compensated for that.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: But again, it's all it's it's respective and it is based on what you can deliver, which brings me back to like that's why when the economy is the way that it is, like, maybe a lower ticket offer, the subscriptions, whatever it is, is gonna be better for your business because yeah, maybe people can't afford that one-on-one support with you because it is time consuming and you do have to charge a lot to make it worth it for you and your business.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: But maybe you can offer some more done-for-you products or some more group um offerings where it's like you can serve a bunch of people um for a lower price.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I just think that's so important.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: And we were talking about um being out of touch, like businesses being out of touch with influencers.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: So we're we're gonna kind of move subjects, but this is so real in marketing.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Businesses being out of touch, not being empathetic.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, their marketing can be whack, but also like the influencers they're choosing, like yes, what like they have no clue.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Like, that's the thing, too.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: They're choosing these influencers based on oh, they have a lot of followers, or oh, they this or oh that but they're not researching the their own target audience.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, okay, you choose this this influencer, but is this influencer popular in your target audience's, you know, whatever?
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Like they for me, I'm listening I don't even follow Alex Earl on TikTok, and that's that might be a hot take.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Listen, the girl's cool, the girl's nice, you know, she had a good upbringing, whatever.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: I'm just not an Alex Earl girly.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: I am not someone who leaves my room filthy and can't.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: I no, I'm not an Alex Earl girl.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: I'm dying.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: I however, like if she's selling me something, chances are I'm never gonna see it.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: And if I'm your target audience, you're not even reaching me with that influencer.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Like, they just don't do any research or they do the wrong research for the wrong reasons, thinking that you know they they just focus on vanity metrics.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, like, you a bit a business can't use like Louis Vuitton.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: If they're gonna use Alex Earl, it's not gonna work because nobody in college, which is her target demographic, or like I've I do follow her, but like we can't afford that.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: So that's why, like, was it what did she do?
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Did she do one with Alani or was that freaking Kim K?
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: She did some sort of like she did some sort of like energy drink, the elixir or whatever, and I was like solid choice because guess what?
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Everyone in her target market can afford that and is going to like go buy that four dollar drink or whatever.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: So like that's one that makes sense.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: But again, yeah, choosing, I feel like exactly like what you said, just businesses will choose influencers for clout reasons only without seeing if they align.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: And it's also bad on the influencers part, which is yeah, uh my very first podcast episode is about 2024 marketing trends and influencers selling out, like that is you're never gonna survive as an influencer if you don't use judgment with what brand deals you're accepting, because you'll see it now.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: These influencers will get brand deals, their comments are full of people being like, What do you even wrote?
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Well, align.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Like, we know you because they do, they've been around for a long time, and you're gonna lose your audience, you're gonna lose the and then you're gonna lose all the brand deals because you're not gonna give any ROI.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: So I feel like we're really gonna see both businesses and influencers like dial that in, or else both of them are gonna suffer.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: A hundred percent.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: Like, listen, I've gotten a lot of brand deals in my like Gmail.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: I've never taken a brand deal.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Someone has come to me for underwear.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Underwear.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: You're like, I'm a social media manager.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Like, who is wearing underwear and posting it?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Certainly not I.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Like, I, you know, for example, my audience is here for hot takes, they're here for, you know, the I I hate the word value because it's so just like stomping right now.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: But like when it comes to my content, I'm giving a lot away.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: And the thing is, is people are stingy.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: You cannot be stingy with your audience who is your if you want a cult-like following, you cannot be stingy.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Like, you are going to be very disappointed if you want, you know, a community and you're not responding to cat comments.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: You're trying to gatekeep things, like gatekeeping is so out.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: If you are worried about giving everything away in your content, it's not your freaking content you should be worried about, it's your offers.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Like, right, right, you should be yeah, like that's not a thing.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: You can't possibly give away your offer in your content.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: It's not possible because your reel can't be longer than what 90 seconds.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Like, right, you can't give it away.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: And then the other thing I wanted to touch on is Gary V.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: I think it's Gary V.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: He says, like, attention is currency or something like that, something to that you know, essence.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: But it's true, attention is currency, like your audience, if they're paying attention to you, if they're commenting, if they're engaging, and you are not reciprocating that, you're basically telling them to F off.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Like you really are.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And I've seen it with clients' accounts that I manage.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Like, we'll start posting, really engaging in content, they'll start getting lots of comments and they won't respond to them, and then you'll just see it taper right off.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Like those people who were commenting at the beginning, they stop commenting because they're not getting a response, they're not getting any value out of it, and that's what they want.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: They want a community and they're supporting you.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: So, like, yeah, please, please support them back.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: I've seen that happen with one of my clients also, and because I don't offer that, I don't offer like responding to comments just because I'm not with this brand day to day.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: So, like, yeah, I can't if they're asking a question, for example, like you know, my facial client, if they're asking, like, hey, does this work on a certain area of your neck if I have this problem?
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm not licensed to let you to tell you that.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: I I don't know.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: And uh another thing too is like, okay, there has been debates all over Instagram between marketing experts and whatever, like social media managers and whatever it is, and they'll go back and forth, and someone had said, Oh, you don't have to worry about like doing a community, some brands don't need that, and blah blah blah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: They're just there to show up and have whatever.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: What'd you say?
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, it's called social media.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Like, what are you on social media?
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Social media, yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, in few, like obviously, we have to sell 100%.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: We are, but we're not just gonna sit there and post product photos and say, here, the call to action is buy this.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Like, no, it has to be out exactly.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm sorry, but I think that if you're on social media as a brand and you're not being social, you're not gonna get any type of feedback or like positive feedback or conversions.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Because what is anyone going to buy from you?
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna be valuable, even if you have the best product ever.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: You have to market it.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: You have to, and that's with personal brands.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: That's why that's why personal brands are queen right now, because they are more relatable, they're more community-based, they're very social.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Um and you are even you you just are seeing corporations become personal brands.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: You're seeing that shift every day, they're humanizing them for that exact reason because it is social, it's social currency, and that's what you're using to sell your product, and that's totally fine.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: It's amazing, also, like please leverage it.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean, you have to be part of your community.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: It's just it's so greedy to think that you're gonna just post something and everyone's gonna buy it.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: And no, you there's work that has to be done.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you know, uh The thing is too is people think that we're telling them to like be best friends with their audience.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: No, like I'm not saying go grab a drink with them.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: But if they're like if they're putting the energy into your content that you took time on or your social media manager took time on, respond back.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: Like, what does it cost you?
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to hear, I don't have enough time.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: You're scrolling, you're doing things.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: You're so scrolling.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm so scrolling too.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: You're so scrolling.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And I think that's actually a problem that some people have when they hire a social media manager.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: And I get it, I'm empathetic towards it.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Some people don't like social media, and so they will hire a social media manager full respect.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: That's what you should do.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: But then they will completely disappear.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Like, just completely not show up on like I don't think they've logged into their account.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, that also isn't gonna work, which I don't want to say that.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't want to tell you that because I want you to not have to do the work, but yeah, the truth is, is like you still do because if you're a personal brand, your social media manager isn't you at the end of the day.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: They're just not you.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: They can create good content, they can create good strategies, they can keep you consistent, all those things, but like they can't take a picture of you at dinner.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: They can't, they can't list your weekend plans, they don't know.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: So it's those things where I'm like, just that's where I that's where I feel like social media mindset has to come in, and you have to find a way to be okay with it, to set healthy boundaries, but still be like, I'm gonna show up for my business because my audience wants me, they want to hear from me because they value me, and I value them showing up for me.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: And another thing too is like if someone emails you, you're not gonna leave them on scene.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And like if someone and another thing too is I when I start with a client, I tell them this is a collaboration between the both of us.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: If you do not have the time, you are going to have to have at least X amount of time each week to go over content, leave me any, you know, changes that you possibly need.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: I need it by Friday at a certain time, or else it's not getting done because it's something that I've had to deal with a lot.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: And like my plans are amazing, I don't really have this problem, but just to cover my end is like, you know, you have work to do, you have to get me the content that I send you.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: I send them real prompts every single month.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Listen, this is what you have to do for me.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Get clips like this, you know, and I link it so they have ideas.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: And not only that, you need to be able to respond, you need to show up on the stories, and that's just it.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Like, if you cannot put the time into your business, I'm just gonna sit here and say, okay, this is clearly not a priority to you at the moment.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: So I'm going to move forward with someone who is prioritizing this.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: And different, like, and and if if you can't make that a priority or you don't want to make that a priority, there are social media managers or agencies that are gonna be better for you.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Your growth is not going to be where you probably want it deep down in your heart.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: I know you want to say, like, oh, I don't care, I just want like a present, but like secretly you're like, but I really want 10k followers.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: That's just like it's not gonna happen.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: And I don't know.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: I think it I do think it's about priorities, and no shame to you, like if your priorities are different, but I just think like it's good to have those expectations of like it just does take work.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, that's really what I've kind of shifted my content to lately is being like, you know, it takes work.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I'm not gonna lie, like I am not gonna be the social media manager that says, like, I'll take this from you and run with it, and it will be fine.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Like, right, it takes work, it takes work from both of us, and I'm sorry, like I know that's not what you want to hear, yeah, but it's true, and and here's a here's an even bigger point with that.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Just because it takes work doesn't mean it's bad.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Like, I think I think we've shifted into this weird culture where people are like, it has to be easy.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: It's like, mmm, no, but just because it's hard doesn't mean it's bad or you shouldn't do it.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Like, it just means you gotta put a little more effort in.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: And I think it has a big thing to do with the fact that we're getting these short form reels where people are primarily using their platform to say, okay, here's how I hit blah blah blah within blah blah blah days, steal my strategy, or those kind of like manipulative marketing tactics where they're like, Yeah, that's what I think it is.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Like, I I hate, I saw the other day, oh my I started a close friend just for this reason.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Literally, like, I filmed the video sitting in my car.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: My boyfriend went into the sushi store and went to go get a sushi.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: I was sitting in the car and I saw this reel, and it was like, How I used Canva and Chat GPT to make me an ebook in a day.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Girl, when I tell you I got my camera out and I was like ChatGPT and Canva, they make you an e-book in a day.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Like, I was so mad.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And I it wasn't something that I wanted to put on my main story because I knew like I have some people following me who are like doing it, and I'm just like, I'm not about like yuck here yum, whatever.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: If you want to manipulate people, be mad guess, but not me.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I will not be manipulated.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: No, so I hopped on my stories and I was like, watch out because blah blah blah.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: I got so many swipe ups.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: I think I added like 40 people, that was it, out of like the 45,000 I have.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: And I was just like, you know what?
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: I'm going ham.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: So I had done that and I got a lot of responses.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Everyone was like, I hate those people, and it's just like, yeah, like everybody hates them.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: Everybody hates them, but why are they freaking going viral?
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Because they're interesting, because you're like, how did you do that?
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Whether it's good attention or bad attention.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, it's funny.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: We I I just I record a couple podcasts a day, everybody on my podcast recording days, and so I was just talking with this about this with my last guest, and we were saying the same thing.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: It's just like, well, I stop.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Stop.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: You're hurting everyone.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: You're even hurting yourself because I know you can't deliver on that promise to your clients.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, please, please, please.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: I have an experience with this.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: I have a coaching client who I meet with every three months.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: We just meet every three months.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: We hop on, we discuss what's working, what's not working, we whatever.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: The last three months went fine.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: We hop on a call, and she's like, I got scammed.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Bessie, like, you didn't run this by me.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: What's happening?
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: So it ends up that she had seen one of these people on um Reels who were like, Oh my god, we reach blah blah blah, like we are fucking scammers, whatever.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Um, excuse my profanity.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but even with that being said, like she was like, Oh, I was so excited.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Like, they seemed like they had good systems in place.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Like, she booked a call with them, hopped on a call with them, talked face to face, was sent her proposal.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: So she was just doing like an engagement thing, so like outsourcing her outbound engagement.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: So they followed 498 people, put her Instagram into one of those generators where they got her fake follows, generated fake likes, yeah, generated fake likes and all this shit.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: And I was like, We ride it, Dawn.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: We ride, get in the car, we ride it, Dawn.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Like, I was ready to go to war.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Then I'm stalking this person after our call.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Like, I hop on and I'm like, I'm in my stalking era.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay, who is the owner?
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: I need to find like I'm going through the likes, I'm going through the posts.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: I go through the posts like a hundred posts later.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to find the owner of this so I can like email them.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: No, and I'm just like so pissed.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: And she was out like$500.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: And they get and there's worse scammers.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: You will lose more than$500.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: I had a client who I worked with for a while, and then when she stopped working with me, she bought followers, and I could just tell, and I could see, and they're getting pretty sneaky about it.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: Um, these businesses are getting pretty sneaky about it.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: It the commenters don't quite look like bot accounts, but you can still tell.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: You can still tell there's not, you know, it's like the commenters still they don't look like bot accounts, but yeah, you could they are just like love this, love that.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: And you want to know they're even getting them to like watch reels, so yeah, your review will go up, but you can still tell.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I maybe it's just me because I'm a social media manager and I'm like, I can spot the fishiness in comments and stuff.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: I'm like, those aren't real.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Um and I also you can spot inconsistencies, and I just feel like don't do it.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: You know, it's just it's a cheap thing to do, and it just I can see the appeal because I have a smaller account.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: I have a smaller account, and I can see the appeal for smaller accounts because it's like you want to look legit, you want your numbers to look legit, especially as a social media manager.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: It's like if I'm not if if my numbers aren't good, then what makes you think I can make your numbers good?
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: But the truth is, is like, mm-mm, it's not honest, it's not ethical.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: And once people actually do work with you, if you're a social media manager, for example, yeah, they're gonna find out that's not it's not real.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: That's so funny you say that.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: So same thing for me.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: And the difference is, is yes, as a social media manager, because the content you're posting, you're posting, first of all, is amazing, but you're also posting content that's meant to convert, not just for likes.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: So of course you're not gonna go viral and and get all of these followers and all that, but for me, like I'm posting broader hot takes, so of course people are gonna like whatever.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: But with the fake likes and fake follows thing, when I started with one of my clients, obviously I could tell from the bat, even when I wasn't a social media manager, I just knew, and I'm still you know working with MCSA, and they call it like they call it this like group, and there is like a group within their DMs where like they just like send the thing and it but it's not targeted towards their target audience, like it's like a pod, like an engagement pod, it's like an engagement pod, and it's just so ungeneric.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: It's just I mean, no, it's so generic, and like for me, I just really focus on the visual copy of content of it, I focus on the email and SMS, I focus on kind of more of the technical things, and I put it all in metrical and I'm like, okay, go do your thing.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: But I know, I know, but listen, I love them and I know for a fact that because they're a very big brand, they're also a brand who is in wholesale, so like they don't technically need their Instagram, like they do, but like, for example, like they're they have a real like for me.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: I'm a social media manager with marketing experience, but they have a real like PR marketing person who puts them in these things.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, there has to be different parts of your like you can't just rely on social media, get fake likes, and expect it to to go off.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Like no, no, no, no, no.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: It has to be other parts of your business, but I don't agree with that.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: I think it's it's annoying.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't but I mean if you can't tell by now, obviously I care a lot about ethics.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: I'm like, my podcast listeners are like, is she like a lawyer?
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: No, I just care about and it's funny because I actually did study for the LSAT for like seven months.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I was going to be a lawyer, I was like set on it, and I studied, I studied so hard, I was like getting the right test scores and everything, and then like a couple weeks before I was supposed to take the LSAT, I was like, it just doesn't feel good.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: I don't think I'm gonna do it, and so I didn't actually ever take it, but yeah, anyways, that's just a side note.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: That's awesome! Like, I would have never known that.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: I don't have even I could not see myself being a lawyer because honestly, it would crush my spirit.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I would probably just cry a lot.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, my uncle's actually a lawyer, he doesn't sleep, so yeah, there's you I don't I feel like you don't sleep, and then all of a sudden you just like start talking in lawyer jargon.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: You can't help it.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: You're just like no when I start you.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: He used to be like the fun uncle, like, oh my god, my uncle, it's a Starbucks so good.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: When I tell you he is denser than a wet paper towel, like it is just horrible.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: So food for thought.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Thank God I didn't be a freaking lawyer, but yeah, I just think ethics are important, and ethics are important in in marketing for sure.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: Um hundred percent.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: And it especially when you're in a hard economic time, because yeah, people use a little bit more discernment when they don't have as much money.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: Um also like don't you just don't you want a customer base that can afford your product?
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: And right, don't you want to make them happy?
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: Because like when you buy something that's really so expensive that you can't afford it and you get it and you realize it wasn't as valuable as the price tag on it, you know, same my freaking AirPod Max's, yeah.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: I'm like, these were like probably not worth this much money.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: $500 and something dollars.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: You feel bad.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: You're like so bad and guilty and like upset, just like the 50 freaking planners I bought for 2023 that are just sitting here on my desk.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Like, I am someone who's so easily influenced, and honestly, I'm getting to the point where just like I said in the beginning of this pod, like that video changed my perspective on everything.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Like, normal people are not supposed to be spending money like this.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yep.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: And like you just you want your audience to be like happy to pay that money and happy to get what they got.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: So I just think that's like so important.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Um 100%.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, back a little bit to being a conscious business owner.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: Yes, are there any other things you think business owners should be doing or shouldn't be doing?
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: That's a really good question.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: I think honestly, focusing on micro influencers.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: I actually had a post today.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Now, I'm not saying spend all your you know marketing budget on influencers.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying that, but at the end of the day, virality is kind of just making its way out.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: I had a collaboration post today with Inspired Media Co, and we kind of broke down.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: I I don't know, I just my thing is with it all is you have to freaking stop focusing on people with so many followers.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Like that's what gets me.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: And I think we kind of spoke about that before, but micro influencers are making waves because they have a tie to their community, just like for me, I could tell you off the bat right now 10 people who engage with me on a daily basis who I talk to.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: I could tell you probably 20 people, and that's because I pay attention to my yeah, like we pay attention to our audience, we're actually making connections.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: So if a brand were to come to me, which I'm I'm not doing brand deals, but for example, if they did choose someone like me, for example, to maybe I don't know, um, maybe simple modern.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: I'm out here promoting water bottles, like oh, you know, guys.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: I've had so many people buy things because I posted them on my story.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: The death calendar, I'm I'm way more likely to buy it from you, like because I trust you and I and I know you, yeah.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And you're like, the thing is too, is like how hard is it to respond to DMs, guys?
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Like, really, like listen, there's some people I don't respond to because it's just fake.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Like asking me how long I've been in business, but you don't even follow me.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Leave me alone, you don't care.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but with that being said, I think brands really also need to hone in on UGC content and showing things in more of like a personal human way.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: So, for example, okay, this was a great kind of commercial.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: I was looking at the holiday commercials for this year, the Chevy one knocked me on my my behind.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Like I was crying when I tell you when I saw it.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Have you seen it yet?
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: I haven't, but I need to go see it right now.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: You need to watch it.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Like, when I tell you, I cried my eyes out.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: It was about so basically it started with like a holiday day or whatever, it was like Christmas, and it was like a dad and a daughter baking, a granddaughter, and then the grandma just sitting looking out the window, and you can tell that she had dementia and that she was just like just not there.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: And the mom and the the daughter, the daughter's like older and has her own daughter.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: So, like the mom was talking to the grandpa, like, Oh, how is she?
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: How is she doing?
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: He's like, It's hit or miss some days, you know, she doesn't even know who I am, whatever.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: And you could just see these two girls who were her granddaughters, went up to her with a present and was like, Hi grandma, we got you a gift.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: She didn't even look at them, she didn't even know who they were, she just kind of stood there and they left the gift on her lap and walked away.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: So the older granddaughter walked over and said, Come on, we're we're gonna make today a good day.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: So she picks her up by her arm or whatever, takes her outside, takes the cover off of an old Chevy.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: So they get in the Chevy, they're driving away.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: As they're driving, the granddaughter is showing her, Here, look, this is the house that you grew up in.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Look, this is the high school that you used to go to when you met grandpa, then drove past, like the whatever, um, went to this drive-in movie theater where finally everything is starting to click in the grandma's head, and you just see her kind of understanding.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: So they get to this cinema outside or whatever, and they're sitting there, and the granddaughter goes to the grandma, like, Oh, uh, this is the the place that grandpa said that he gave you your first kiss.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: And she the grandma starts laughing and she goes, He was too like, he was too shy to give me a kiss.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: I had to kiss him first, and they sh it just starts clicking for her, and it just I start bawling my eyes out.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Not me tearing up, literally, I'm like, and then they drive home, and they drive home and they're passing these houses with new Chevies of the same model that they're in, and the grandma's just looking outside and just like enjoying it, whatever.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: They get home, she gets her out of the car, grandma is back to normal, she's knows who everybody is, and it just kind of shows everybody all together.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: So, where I'm going with this is use empathy.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: People right now, especially during the holiday seasons, especially during the new year, they don't want to hear, oh, get this product and be skinnier in the new year, oh, do this, and they don't want to hear that.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: They want to hear building your well, your wellness, and health, and making sure you are strong and healthy for the new year, not being skinny.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: That is so out, not being, you know, the next like empathy is just all it is is saying, I know where you've been.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: And I've been going through too.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or or even if you haven't been there, like I I can feel for you that I would know how that feels.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: And you can use that in any business, any business.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: I actually think it's one of the things they talk about in the books Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: I could have got that wrong, but I don't know.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: Building a story brand, it's a very good book about building really strong brands, and really strong brands use empathy, you know.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: And it's for that reason because it's like we want to feel seen, we want to feel like your product or your service is actually gonna help us get where we want to go.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: Um and bonus points if you've been there, like if you've been in the hard place and gotten out of it.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Um that's what feels good to hear as a consumer.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that is exactly why I put the post up of de-influencing.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: It was very different from what I post, but yeah, I am younger.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: I'm someone who made mistakes already in my life, which I'm luckily luckily learning from them, and I'm you know, in a headspace where instead of making the same mistake twice, I'm gonna not.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: Um with that being said, I love a growing queen.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: We love it.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: Um, but I feel like with that post, I really wanted people to understand like the way you buy things is emotional.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: The way anybody buys things is emotional.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Like, brands need to understand that.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: When I invested in my branding, I invested with the the it was expensive, but I invested knowing that I'm gonna get something out of it, that this is something my business needs because you know, I'm here, but I I'm here, I want to be here, and this is gonna get me there.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: Like, I'll be better for it.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I just think that people need to start appealing to more emotions rather than just conversions and money and using money just makes me like a little icky.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't want to hear that you got fifty thousand dollars and because half of the time it's not even real revenue.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: Um, oh my gosh, this has been so fun! Like, thank you so much.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: Before we close out, I just want to ask you what is one piece of advice you wish you could go back and tell your younger self.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: I've been waiting for this one.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Um something I would tell my younger self is slow down.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: There is so much.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Listen, I'm someone who has so much anxiety.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: I've had anxiety since I was a little girl.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: I was stressing about the next thing that was gonna happen before it even happened.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: And slowing down, living in the moment because tomorrow is not promised.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: And I know that sounds so cheesy, but my boyfriend tells me all the time, he's like, tomorrow's not promised.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: Why are we gonna worry about tomorrow's problems today?
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: We have today's problems to deal with.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: And it's so true.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Like, my I've always been anxious, I've always been someone whose heart is beating out of their chest, and oh my gosh, like I'm gonna freak out.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's just like, but why live in the moment, be grateful for what you have?
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: People can't even put food in their mouth right now, so it's like I'm extremely lucky, I'm extremely grateful, and yeah, just slow down.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Life is going to be here.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: You have all of this time on earth, you have all of this time with your family and friends, make it count.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: I think that's the one thing that would be I would tell myself.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I love that one.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Um, most of the guests have said things along the lines of like, um, you know, it's not that serious or things like that.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: But I really love slow down, and I can relate to that so much because I got married when I was 18.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: I was literally engaged the week after I graduated from high school, got got married three months later, and you know, I I did everything right.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: I I got married, I went to college, I bought a house, I remodeled it, and then I was 23 and I was like, I did everything besides I guess have a kid, which I didn't want at the time, and I literally started my entire life over at 23.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: I got divorced, I completely started over, and you slow down, yes, because you're right, every moment is so precious, and there's no reason to just speed through life.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow's gonna be there if it's gonna be there, and you just need to take it one day at a time, and you're you're not behind, you're just you're doing great, you're on your own journey, and if you don't feel like you've made it, you probably have, and also if you haven't, it's on its way to you last time.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, I love that so much.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: Brie, thank you for coming on the podcast.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: I loved having you.
