Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher, It's Adam Kaplan, and it's here, well
- 0:17Speaker 1: almost here. It's gonna be the eagles first preseason game.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It's gonna be against the Ravens Saturday night. We're gonna
- 0:24Speaker 1: go inside here in this podcast. What we're looking at
- 0:27Speaker 1: in this first game. You know, we know the starters
- 0:29Speaker 1: aren't gonna play, and sometimes significant contributors are withheld, also Adam.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Before we get into that, though, I do have a
- 0:35Speaker 1: little little update from being at Thursday's practice, which included
- 0:40Speaker 1: some fireworks in a way that I've covered. You know this,
- 0:45Speaker 1: We both covered camp for a long time, and you
- 0:47Speaker 1: do NFL tours.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Fights are not really a big deal to me. They happen.
- 0:51Speaker 2: They're inevitable. You practice against the team, same team, your
- 0:54Speaker 2: teammates for two or three weeks. It happens.
- 0:56Speaker 1: But at the end of practice Man Moro Ajomo and
- 1:00Speaker 1: Fred Johnson went at it in a way that was
- 1:04Speaker 1: a little more intense than I'm used to seeing. Something
- 1:08Speaker 1: happened on on a play that nobody could have possibly seen.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But Moro Jomo took a lot of exception to something
- 1:14Speaker 1: that Fred did during the play probably a block of
- 1:17Speaker 1: some sort, right, and he was really in his face
- 1:21Speaker 1: about it. A punch got thrown, players got involved, how
- 1:25Speaker 1: to separate them, and then here's and we'll talk about
- 1:29Speaker 1: this from a bigger context in a minute, because I
- 1:31Speaker 1: think Nick Sirianni made an error here for a guy
- 1:34Speaker 1: who generally has his finger on the pulse. But obviously
- 1:38Speaker 1: after they separated, they lined up ran another play and
- 1:41Speaker 1: Fred Johnson got his revenge on Moro where he basically
- 1:45Speaker 1: at the end of the play fell on Moro Jomo
- 1:48Speaker 1: and used him as he got up to kind of
- 1:50Speaker 1: like push him into the ground as he got up,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and that once Moro got up from that, he was
- 1:56Speaker 1: like enraged, almost like a man possessed. Both had a
- 2:00Speaker 1: separated and I've never seen this before, but Moro Joemo
- 2:03Speaker 1: while being separated, they were trying to ride him away,
- 2:06Speaker 1: just like the offense is trying to ride.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Fred Johnson the other way.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Well, Moro ran around the people trying to restrain him
- 2:12Speaker 1: and sort of from the backside ran at Fred Johnson
- 2:17Speaker 1: and dive bombed into his legs and knees, which.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Is not good. That's dangerous. Yeah, there are two problems
- 2:25Speaker 3: with fights I'm gonna tell you what the coaches. This
- 2:27Speaker 3: is why coaches hate fights. So it all is minor
- 2:32Speaker 3: until somebody gets hurt. So over the years, i've gone
- 2:35Speaker 3: to cancer when guys have broken their hands. Remember they're
- 2:39Speaker 3: wearing a helmet. Now, when the guys want to get down,
- 2:42Speaker 3: they'll take their helmet off like in hockey to go
- 2:45Speaker 3: for it. But I've seen him broken hands. It's terrible.
- 2:48Speaker 3: They hit the face mask. That's what you don't want.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And what usually happens is the players get thrown out
- 2:55Speaker 3: of practice. I mean I remember Bill Belichick. This was
- 2:58Speaker 3: at the Panthers like four years ago. All gonna say
- 3:01Speaker 3: for three or four seasons ago, obviously before Belichick got canned.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But it's a joint practice in I can't remember if
- 3:13Speaker 3: there was against the Panthers. I don't remember. It was
- 3:14Speaker 3: in New England or Charlotte, but or Wafford College. Actually
- 3:18Speaker 3: Wafford Colleges were the east of practice. Anyway, Belichick, I
- 3:22Speaker 3: heard him say it, guys, if you fight, you're thrown out,
- 3:25Speaker 3: simple as that. That's the most coaches have that rule.
- 3:28Speaker 3: You're out throw them out because usually up first of all,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you're being disrespectful to your teammates and they want to
- 3:36Speaker 3: get this work done. Look, it's not like twenty five
- 3:39Speaker 3: years ago when you had three to four weeks of
- 3:42Speaker 3: practice training fell practice two days. You don't have that.
- 3:44Speaker 3: You have very limited time.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Correct.
- 3:47Speaker 3: But man, I'm telling you that what you describe as
- 3:50Speaker 3: scary going at someone's legs like you can't, I don't care.
- 3:54Speaker 3: And the problem is with the heat. That's the other
- 3:55Speaker 3: part of this, yep. I was at. This is a
- 3:59Speaker 3: true dust up. This is Chargers Rams at uc Irvine
- 4:06Speaker 3: mm hm. And they're only they're only they used to
- 4:09Speaker 3: be only ten minutes from each other. The Chargers were
- 4:11Speaker 3: in Coasta, Mesa and they had a joint practice and
- 4:17Speaker 3: they're on a soccer field. They don't have a UCR
- 4:20Speaker 3: friend doesn't have the ant Eaters don't they don't have
- 4:22Speaker 3: a football team. They have a soccer team. And it was
- 4:23Speaker 3: on a soccer field maybe to a football field, and
- 4:26Speaker 3: the dust was literally coming up. It was all over
- 4:28Speaker 3: the place, all over the place. And by the way,
- 4:32Speaker 3: one of them lasted five minutes or more. Yeah, they
- 4:34Speaker 3: had multiple fights and McVeigh went out of his mind.
- 4:38Speaker 3: He's excitable anyway.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Right, And I don't remember.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I can't remember now whether it's Brandon Staley or I
- 4:43Speaker 3: don't remember who the head coach was. But it was
- 4:45Speaker 3: just ridiculous. It's just so dumb because they'd stop one
- 4:48Speaker 3: and then another one w'd start right. They're completely useless,
- 4:51Speaker 3: like these don't they don't solve anything or God, just
- 4:54Speaker 3: pissed off. And and it's usually because of the heat
- 4:56Speaker 3: they get. You're you're tired, you're irritable, you're sick and
- 4:59Speaker 3: tired of this stuff.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Then and it's the same person.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's the same person who's been blocking you for three
- 5:04Speaker 1: weeks in a lot of sense, you know, right.
- 5:07Speaker 3: The same team, same team especially I was, but the
- 5:11Speaker 3: ones I'm talking about joints. I was that one. Now,
- 5:13Speaker 3: this one was interesting. I might have talked about this
- 5:15Speaker 3: on a show over the years. It was Jets, then Redskins,
- 5:18Speaker 3: I think, m hm. And I don't know whether which
- 5:22Speaker 3: which team it was at, but I know this the
- 5:26Speaker 3: player that the linemen were coming right at me and
- 5:28Speaker 3: me and like ten reporters got all dumped over, dumped
- 5:31Speaker 3: over the fence, wooden fence. Because we tried, we moved
- 5:35Speaker 3: back and we knocked it over and we got knocked
- 5:37Speaker 3: over it. So yeah, it's dangerous man to move this
- 5:39Speaker 3: along here. Oh yeah, it sells that there's nothing good
- 5:42Speaker 3: out of it. Yet needs to prove it. Your football player,
- 5:45Speaker 3: we know you're toughs. They're tough.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yes, poor big Damo almost took a right hook to
- 5:50Speaker 1: the chin just as trying to break it up and
- 5:52Speaker 1: be a peacemaker.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, so I didn't know that. What what was?
- 5:56Speaker 3: Did he did he get involved trying to break it up? Yeah?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Trying to break it up and be a peacemaker. Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 2: I mean there were there were a decent amount.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But the problem is, and this is so Nick Sirianni
- 6:05Speaker 1: did an incorrecting in my opinion, and then he did
- 6:07Speaker 1: a correcting after the the second, you know, because they
- 6:12Speaker 1: happened on consecutive reps after a Joemo went after Fred
- 6:16Speaker 1: Johnson's legs and everything. Then, because you've seen this happen
- 6:20Speaker 1: when when there's a fight, offense sides of the offense,
- 6:23Speaker 1: defense sides of it, and then then the whole team
- 6:25Speaker 1: start to get joy and chippy.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you're you see peacemakers, but.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You also hear a lot of peanut gallery chirpin from
- 6:32Speaker 1: each side right, and then it threatens to become a
- 6:35Speaker 1: bigger just it threatens to become not just those two guys,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but then offense versus defense.
- 6:40Speaker 2: So Nick stopped play.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He called everybody in the middlefield, had a talk with them,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and went off.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Practice was over. I've seen him, yeah, I think he was.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I think he did. I saw him speaking to.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Both And this is after he separated. The teams ended practice.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The offense went to one field, defense went to another.
- 6:59Speaker 1: The kind I did a warm down drills and stuff. Uh,
- 7:02Speaker 1: Nick and Howie Roseman both had conversations with each of
- 7:05Speaker 1: the guys. I think with Fred and with Yeah, and I.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Think I.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Sometimes you see sometimes you'll see that they make these
- 7:17Speaker 1: guys like apologize or get over it and shake hands.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I think they did the right thing in this case
- 7:21Speaker 1: and just told the guys go your separate ways, give
- 7:23Speaker 1: this thing some time. This thing needed time to cool off.
- 7:26Speaker 1: This was not just gonna be a you're my brother,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm your brother, like yeah. One point, Bret Johnson yelled
- 7:31Speaker 1: at something to the appoint the effect of, hey, man,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I got kids. You can't be like going after my
- 7:37Speaker 1: my legs, like like my knees in my livelihood.
- 7:40Speaker 3: You know, did you see that? Did you see it
- 7:42Speaker 3: as it happened?
- 7:43Speaker 1: I was, I had the a front row seat for
- 7:45Speaker 1: it all. It was probably me to Checko and a
- 7:48Speaker 1: couple of reporters just happened to be right along the
- 7:52Speaker 1: area where we were maybe thirty feet away wild man.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And so that's why.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I come down on Nick Sirianni for this. When they
- 8:01Speaker 1: after the first rep that Moro, Jomo and Fred Johnson
- 8:05Speaker 1: were going at it, Like I said, a punch guy.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I believe Moro tried to punch Fred might have missed.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Fred may have tried to punch out. There was a
- 8:12Speaker 1: quick little fracas there, right, and it ended quickly, but
- 8:16Speaker 1: there was still a lot of joining. Now you know
- 8:19Speaker 1: as a head coach that if you don't pull these
- 8:22Speaker 1: guys off the field right then and there, they have
- 8:24Speaker 1: to go line up and literally line up across from
- 8:27Speaker 1: each other. It's not like they play positions that you
- 8:30Speaker 1: can get away from it. So unfortunately, the offense then
- 8:34Speaker 1: went back to the line of scrimmage with Fred Johnson
- 8:37Speaker 1: still hot, and the defenses on line of scrimmage with
- 8:39Speaker 1: a Jomo still hot, and then of course they run
- 8:42Speaker 1: a play and then that's the very next play where
- 8:44Speaker 1: Fred got his revenge and just fell on top of
- 8:47Speaker 1: a Jomo and then used him. If this is where
- 8:51Speaker 1: I criticiz and it's not the biggest deal, I'm not
- 8:53Speaker 1: trying to like, you know, fire Nick Ciria.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Everybody in the world who was there could have told
- 8:58Speaker 1: you that another fight was going to ensue because they
- 9:01Speaker 1: had not resolved it after the first snap. So why
- 9:04Speaker 1: are you gonna let these two guys line up directly
- 9:07Speaker 1: across from each other where one have to block the
- 9:09Speaker 1: other one when they're still mad.
- 9:12Speaker 2: At each other.
- 9:12Speaker 1: They should have been pulled off the field, should have
- 9:14Speaker 1: been given some time to cool off and then maybe
- 9:17Speaker 1: like ten plays later, you get him back on.
- 9:19Speaker 3: But well, Cooper and Clint Hurt are the ones who
- 9:22Speaker 3: would be coaching those those players, and they should obviously
- 9:24Speaker 3: should have communicated with Nick. Just going by what you're
- 9:27Speaker 3: telling me. Yeah, and you know, you could say Nick
- 9:30Speaker 3: should have done a good job, but those guys should
- 9:31Speaker 3: have gotten his here and they should have jumped and
- 9:33Speaker 3: said stop.
- 9:34Speaker 2: That's fair. It's a coaching level mistake. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 9:37Speaker 2: that's well, got Hurt, They're lucky.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I know that happened, but I didn't. I didn't see
- 9:43Speaker 3: the detail, and you're you're giving us all the detail.
- 9:45Speaker 3: That's that's that's an ugly one, man. I've seen some stuff. Yeah, wow,
- 9:52Speaker 3: how long did it last?
- 9:54Speaker 1: The second after Fred fell on top of a Jomo
- 9:59Speaker 1: basically and then you know, used him to kind of
- 10:02Speaker 1: like as a leverage to get up, and then Jomo
- 10:05Speaker 1: had to be restrained and then he went after his knees.
- 10:08Speaker 2: That that took. That was some time. I mean there
- 10:10Speaker 2: there was.
- 10:11Speaker 1: There was a lot of restraining that needed to be done.
- 10:13Speaker 1: There was a lot of yelling back.
- 10:14Speaker 2: And I mean it felt long.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It was probably like five minutes on the whole, but
- 10:18Speaker 1: if you could just sense it. But like again, you
- 10:20Speaker 1: knew after the first one that something was that that
- 10:24Speaker 1: they weren't just gonna be able to line up and
- 10:26Speaker 1: be cool with.
- 10:28Speaker 2: So anyway, Uh, that that's it.
- 10:31Speaker 1: So as far as practice, you know, uh, there were
- 10:34Speaker 1: some minor injuries like the gene and Quina Mitchell did
- 10:37Speaker 1: not practice.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So Jonathan Jones is still out.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Casher Fields was out, so he saw a lot of
- 10:41Speaker 1: reps for for guys like Mac McWilliams, who had a
- 10:44Speaker 1: nice interception and.
- 10:45Speaker 3: By the way, he's finally he's been coming on over
- 10:49Speaker 3: a week like this is good, this is this is
- 10:51Speaker 3: good stuff.
- 10:52Speaker 2: It was very good for him. He had a you know,
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think Ringo was Ringo.
- 10:57Speaker 1: There was a play where he got he tried to
- 10:58Speaker 1: like pinch inside on a run and then Barkley bounced
- 11:01Speaker 1: into the outside and completely had a wide open lane
- 11:04Speaker 1: to the outside to run because Ringo wasn't there to
- 11:06Speaker 1: set the edge. But yeah, no, it's good for mc McWilliams.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Vic Fangio said he's maturing. He's obviously gonna get a
- 11:12Speaker 1: ton of reps and snaps against the Ravens and the opener,
- 11:16Speaker 1: so that'll be good for him. And another test offensively
- 11:20Speaker 1: is really interesting. I would say eighty percent of the
- 11:23Speaker 1: snaps were out of shotgun, not as much under center.
- 11:26Speaker 2: From the first team offense. They only did about four
- 11:29Speaker 2: team drills. A couple of them were red zone.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Hurts through a beautiful, beautiful connection with Dallas Goddard for
- 11:37Speaker 1: a touchdown where he put it up where only got
- 11:39Speaker 1: her can get it in the back line of the
- 11:40Speaker 1: end zone and mccouba didn't do anything wrong, got her
- 11:44Speaker 1: just out leveraged him and reached up high and caught it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And I will say one thing that to watch here,
- 11:51Speaker 1: because it's been a quiet camp for Reek Willen compared
- 11:53Speaker 1: to like mini camp. He got beat on a quick
- 11:56Speaker 1: out basically the same route that McWilliams picked off and
- 12:00Speaker 1: jumped on the interception intended for Brown, but Wicks.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Caught a touchdown from Hurt. It' about like a five
- 12:05Speaker 2: yarder and it surprised me.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Wollan's back was facing Wicks as he caught the ball,
- 12:12Speaker 1: so and I didn't I got a good view of it.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It's not like Wix put a real all. I didn't
- 12:17Speaker 1: think he put an amazing stutter step on him. I
- 12:19Speaker 1: just think Willan got stiff there and got turned around
- 12:22Speaker 1: and didn't He couldn't even make a play on the ball.
- 12:24Speaker 1: He was literally in the opposite direction to the out route,
- 12:28Speaker 1: so he's looking in and then Wis is easily catching
- 12:31Speaker 1: me out for a touchdown. So just stuck out in
- 12:34Speaker 1: my mind, because Riek really hasn't had the kind of
- 12:36Speaker 1: splashy camp that he did in the mini OTAs well.
- 12:39Speaker 3: It's been challenged as much. But the thing with him
- 12:41Speaker 3: is is when we see this at receiver. Long receivers
- 12:45Speaker 3: are long corners. They're trouble throttling down like they have
- 12:49Speaker 3: trouble transitioning. And it's dk metcalf as a perfect example.
- 12:54Speaker 3: That's a big nothing to do with injury about the
- 12:57Speaker 3: neck issue. His big issue from tape. You don't you
- 13:01Speaker 3: just can't handle short of routes. He's got to go forward.
- 13:03Speaker 3: You can't start and stop rig That's an issue with
- 13:06Speaker 3: riek Wollan start and stopping. Yeah, And that's something to
- 13:09Speaker 3: watch because no Smitty and no no Lemon. So it's
- 13:13Speaker 3: like that, you you know, he's just simply not gonna
- 13:16Speaker 3: be tested as much because the quality of the receivers
- 13:18Speaker 3: are not even close to Smitty. Unfortunately, I know how.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I feel when I wake up in the morning. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: have so many things on my mind. I can't get
- 13:26Speaker 1: any of this done until I have my first cup
- 13:28Speaker 1: of coffee. I know a lot of you feel the
- 13:30Speaker 1: same way. You either need that coffee, that nicotine pouch,
- 13:34Speaker 1: maybe even energy drink to get yourself through the day.
- 13:38Speaker 1: We go to these great lengths to stay healthy, whether
- 13:40Speaker 1: it's going to the gym or trying to get the
- 13:42Speaker 1: right amount.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Of sleep, eating better.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Then we'll put these chemicals in our body just to
- 13:46Speaker 1: make it through the day. But I've been using Ultra

- 15:09Speaker 1: but not in a mug. It would be in one
- 15:11Speaker 1: of those styrofoam to go cups, because basically that is
- 15:15Speaker 1: our family, always hitting those coffee places with the styrofoam cups.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You know them very well and nothing makes my kids
- 15:22Speaker 1: happier than hitting.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Up those places early and often.

- 17:29Speaker 1: full disclosure. There wasn't nothing else that really jumped out
- 17:32Speaker 1: to me. I mean again, it was a shorter practice
- 17:34Speaker 1: and other only four team duals with the first team.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So why don't we get into what we're looking at
- 17:40Speaker 1: h with the preseason opener and I'll kind of throw
- 17:44Speaker 1: it to you, I mean, what are give me a
- 17:45Speaker 1: couple of things that you're you know, yeah, that's on
- 17:49Speaker 1: your mind, all right.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I hear the guys that I'm gonna have my eye on.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Markel Bell seventy two will start most likely for Lane
- 17:55Speaker 3: John to the right tackle Jake Major's short arms. That's
- 17:59Speaker 3: why again drafted. Although he's he's got he's got abnormally
- 18:04Speaker 3: short armed for a guy over six foot two, like
- 18:06Speaker 3: he's arms of a guy's about five foot nine. It's
- 18:08Speaker 3: just weird. He's had a very good camp. Good surprise.
- 18:12Speaker 3: He could play center, re guard Willie Lampkin number sixty one, Majors,
- 18:17Speaker 3: seventy five, seventy nine. Michael Jordan. No, not not that
- 18:20Speaker 3: Michael Jordan. This Michael Jordan, johno Juku, who could play
- 18:25Speaker 3: right or left tackle. He's had experience with both.
- 18:28Speaker 2: By the way. By the way, got left guard reps
- 18:31Speaker 2: in this.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Oh okay with with laying back. Yeah, that's interesting.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yep, second team left guard reps.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Yeah, even no, but that's fine. That's that's news. That's interesting. Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 3: that he did that. Cam Wings who know about He's
- 18:45Speaker 3: long shot, Hollan Pierce, long shot, Miles hitting, long shot,
- 18:49Speaker 3: Michael Morris who had come off an injury. But the
- 18:52Speaker 3: big ones are Major's Bell Kennell. We know about Bell.
- 18:58Speaker 3: We want to see what happens when he starts. Should
- 19:00Speaker 3: start Lampkin, who's coming on. He could play scarter center.
- 19:04Speaker 3: It's gonna be hard for him to make it because
- 19:05Speaker 3: of the size, but it keeps giving people something to
- 19:08Speaker 3: think about. So those would be the guy stours obviously,
- 19:14Speaker 3: Dalton versus McKee. That's a big one for me. Cooper,
- 19:17Speaker 3: we know about I already know about Darres s Cooper.
- 19:19Speaker 3: He's having a great camp. He's making the team. You
- 19:21Speaker 3: know what I like to see, you see Howard Brown
- 19:24Speaker 3: run a nine round actually get the football downfield that
- 19:26Speaker 3: I'd like to see.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he had a drop in the practice, So he's
- 19:31Speaker 1: just been kind of it's really hard to get a
- 19:34Speaker 1: gauge on what they want to do with him and
- 19:36Speaker 1: what value he's going to bring to the office.
- 19:37Speaker 3: That's his value. He's getting five million fully guaranteed because
- 19:41Speaker 3: he could run. But as you and I noted, he's
- 19:44Speaker 3: got to earn his role as a nine round runner,
- 19:49Speaker 3: deep threat guy, and we haven't seen much of it
- 19:52Speaker 3: in training him. This is a wonder opportunity with with
- 19:55Speaker 3: McKee's arm strength and Dalton you know, who's an intermediate thrower.
- 20:03Speaker 3: This is a wonderful opportunity. We're going to know about
- 20:04Speaker 3: a lotchem where he's had a good camp. We know
- 20:06Speaker 3: what he does, but we need to see what they pay.
- 20:10Speaker 3: What they're paying. They're paying five million, and they guaranteed
- 20:13Speaker 3: all of it for a certain reason. He can run,
- 20:15Speaker 3: but we need to see it here. That's pretty much
- 20:17Speaker 3: it though. On offense, I think we pretty much cover
- 20:19Speaker 3: the guys who want to say.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we have mentioned before quite a couple of times
- 20:23Speaker 1: that wherever he's been, Marquise Brown has not been necessarily
- 20:29Speaker 1: a good deep threat.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Right he's been, he's been a good receiver at the time.
- 20:33Speaker 1: He's had a thousand yard year, but he's not a
- 20:34Speaker 1: guy who averages like fourteen yards per catch for his career.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He just it just hasn't manifested that way. Some of
- 20:41Speaker 1: it was injury. Some of it's been in the offense
- 20:42Speaker 1: that he's been in.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Quarterbacks, yeah, some of us.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Some of it's but you know, he was with Patrick
- 20:47Speaker 1: Mahomes last year, but that offense wasn't very explosives, so.
- 20:51Speaker 3: They had offensive line problems. Then with Lamar, Lamar didn't
- 20:53Speaker 3: become Lamar until later. It was really little after he
- 20:56Speaker 3: has to get traded right to the Cardinals, and then
- 20:59Speaker 3: Lamar became a good defense. It's funny how that works out. Now.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You can't blame in Lodgimore for asking out he didn't
- 21:05Speaker 3: want to play with Zach Wilson. He was rightfully correct,
- 21:08Speaker 3: you know, But that's it, and that's pretty much those
- 21:11Speaker 3: are the players in offense. That's a good note on
- 21:14Speaker 3: Ojuku I did.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Yeah, what one thing though? One thing? Do you do
- 21:17Speaker 2: you care at all?
- 21:18Speaker 1: Like, do you think it'll be interesting to see if
- 21:19Speaker 1: they play Marko Bell at left tackle later in the.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I want to see it, right because here's why.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Well, I mean I already know, we already know he's
- 21:26Speaker 1: going to start off it right. Would you like to
- 21:27Speaker 1: see at some point.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Just yeah, oh yeah, let's get one Okay, Okay, I didn't.
- 21:32Speaker 3: This is a good discussion real quick, and we're going
- 21:34Speaker 3: to do defense. M h. I think start I like
- 21:36Speaker 3: to see because he started taking left tackle wraps reps
- 21:38Speaker 3: this week, like him to start it right tackle in
- 21:40Speaker 3: this game for better evaluation of his ability to see
- 21:44Speaker 3: where he's had left because left tackle, as we've said
- 21:46Speaker 3: for how many times we've said it, teams don't see
- 21:48Speaker 3: him as a left tacklem. Okay, he was one in college,
- 21:51Speaker 3: but because of the footwork and body type, he's just
- 21:54Speaker 3: not built like a left tackle. He just doesn't translate
- 21:57Speaker 3: to be a left tackle here. But since they're doing
- 21:59Speaker 3: wraps moswell give him a started left tackle for the
- 22:02Speaker 3: end of the preseason. Why the hell not?
- 22:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:04Speaker 1: Sure, I mean you're gonna cross train him there during practice.
- 22:06Speaker 1: You might as well see if you can handle a
- 22:07Speaker 1: little bit.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Later in the game.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Yeah, give him his right tackle, that's where you expect
- 22:11Speaker 1: him to play. But later in the game, if you
- 22:12Speaker 1: have an opportunity to get him in a little bit,
- 22:14Speaker 1: do it.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm with it.
- 22:16Speaker 3: And Willie Lampkin, Yeah, the legend. You know, some of
- 22:19Speaker 3: the fans were like, why don't they let him? Why
- 22:21Speaker 3: is he running thirteam? Well he's not anymore. He's doing
- 22:23Speaker 3: second team. So let's see what happens.
- 22:25Speaker 2: All right, defense, your eyes on who?
- 22:28Speaker 3: All right, up front, there's a big one ninety five,
- 22:30Speaker 3: Ty Robinson. He's got to start showing up. Gotta it's
- 22:35Speaker 3: got to start showing up. I don't know when you
- 22:38Speaker 3: are Bernard's gonna be when they feel safe for him
- 22:41Speaker 3: to play, you know, so he can protect himself and
- 22:42Speaker 3: knows what he's doing.
- 22:43Speaker 2: It's a great question.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Yeah, don't know that yet. I mean, they're gonna want
- 22:46Speaker 3: to obviously play him in the preseason, but I can't
- 22:48Speaker 3: say it's going to be this game. So of their
- 22:51Speaker 3: front it will be Ty Robinson of the edges. I
- 22:55Speaker 3: would like to see Epanessa show me something now that
- 22:59Speaker 3: see what and there's got to be tackling going on.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I'd like to see because he can't tackle in training camp. Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 3: we already to know about Trott. Get some good reps
- 23:07Speaker 3: with Mondon, Kishan, James Newby's hurt. Ebicketty. I'd like to
- 23:13Speaker 3: see Ebiketty because right now with Grenard not ready to
- 23:17Speaker 3: the start of the regular season, which is what how
- 23:18Speaker 3: he said anyway he thought they he'd be ready. Need
- 23:23Speaker 3: to see Ebikeetty more in the secondary. Yep, this is
- 23:27Speaker 3: where it gets interesting. Boy. Mac McWilliams has come on
- 23:29Speaker 3: big time the last week. He's seeing Tim and Nickel,
- 23:33Speaker 3: He's seeing time at corner. The guys that I'll be
- 23:36Speaker 3: keeping my eye on will be I really want to
- 23:38Speaker 3: get an better idea. Twenty three Jacquaran Bennett, who has
- 23:42Speaker 3: not had a great camp, needs to come on here.
- 23:44Speaker 3: He's an outside looking at making it. Let's see if
- 23:48Speaker 3: McWilliams number twenty two recent play is real. He's got
- 23:52Speaker 3: to tackle and got to cover. We'll see where they
- 23:54Speaker 3: line him up. Andre sam is kind of know who
- 23:57Speaker 3: he is, more of a fourth corner long shot to
- 23:59Speaker 3: make it. And and then our guy, the big one.
- 24:02Speaker 3: This is for us. It is this Maximus Pully because
- 24:04Speaker 3: we have pretty good intel on him. But Tommy signed
- 24:06Speaker 3: here out of Wafford, a pretty talented guy. I want
- 24:10Speaker 3: to see if he could push Look, you know who
- 24:12Speaker 3: did it in twenty two yep, read Blanket Chip came
- 24:16Speaker 3: out of nowhere.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll tell you the the other dB that they
- 24:20Speaker 1: got undrafted free agent out of.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Shoot Worthy.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Well, his name is Kapana. Yeah, he's got he's got
- 24:28Speaker 1: some juice to him and the check wo have been
- 24:30Speaker 1: watching him. He can run a little bit and he's
- 24:32Speaker 1: probably been noticeable as much as Maximus Pulley has. So
- 24:39Speaker 1: both of those guys, as you're saying, have an opportunity
- 24:41Speaker 1: because Cole was Nesky is not practiced basically, and they're
- 24:45Speaker 1: not deep at safety. And you know, it'll be interesting
- 24:47Speaker 1: to see if one of those two has a really
- 24:50Speaker 1: good performance here in the preseason and and gets a
- 24:52Speaker 1: leg on on things.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and Daris Cooper, we already know who he is
- 24:55Speaker 3: like for people. Oh, well, you know I want to
- 24:58Speaker 3: see him the preseason.
- 24:58Speaker 2: That's fine, right, it's just going to reaffirm what you
- 25:01Speaker 2: already know though, what he is.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he's you know, unfortunately because of the way the
- 25:05Speaker 3: past target tree is going to go. I keep telling
- 25:08Speaker 3: people this, like I love we were on Garris Cooper's bandwagon.
- 25:13Speaker 3: I think I remember I anoyed him. It was like
- 25:15Speaker 3: I'd have to look up the date. I remember putting
- 25:17Speaker 3: in the email. You like, he's making the team. It's
- 25:20Speaker 3: over ye. And then I remember sewing he had a
- 25:22Speaker 3: couple of practice where you start saying, okay, is he
- 25:26Speaker 3: is he the guy? But I'm like, I've seen enough.
- 25:29Speaker 3: When you do this for three weeks to practice that
- 25:31Speaker 3: we're not as good as the other ones is not
- 25:32Speaker 3: going to matter, right. But the problem for him is
- 25:36Speaker 3: is it's it's it's it's Smitty, it's got her, it's Wicks,
- 25:40Speaker 3: and when Lemon is healthy, it's Lemon. The fifth guy
- 25:43Speaker 3: doesn't get the football. Like to explain that last year,
- 25:47Speaker 3: you know, sometimes it just doesn't. People don't really see that,
- 25:50Speaker 3: like because if he has fifteen catches this season doesn't
- 25:53Speaker 3: mean to have a great, great season. You can block.
- 25:56Speaker 3: He's big, He's developing, and don't forget that Hollywood Brown's
- 26:01Speaker 3: on a one year deal. Got It's on a one
- 26:03Speaker 3: year deal. In terms of pastar good group. He may
- 26:06Speaker 3: not be back next year, and Wix is on a
- 26:08Speaker 3: two year deal, so long term, Drek Cooper could be
- 26:11Speaker 3: I'm not saying he's gonna start, but he legitimately could
- 26:13Speaker 3: down the road.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Right eight, there's only nothing he can do against the
- 26:19Speaker 1: Ravens in a preseason game that's gonna make me think
- 26:21Speaker 1: any different.
- 26:22Speaker 3: However, all is I see people like their expectations are
- 26:25Speaker 3: way bigger numbers wise. But you got it. You got
- 26:27Speaker 3: to understand the context. It's not gonna there's no chance
- 26:30Speaker 3: if they're healthy, he's gonna have thirty catches if they're healthy.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Of course, these guys are playing over him. They're getting
- 26:35Speaker 3: the ball over him. That's It's not his fault. He's
- 26:39Speaker 3: had a We're huge fans of Darres Cooper. You just
- 26:41Speaker 3: don't want we don't want people to be let down
- 26:44Speaker 3: because you know, people they see what the reporters say.
- 26:47Speaker 3: They've hurt our shows, They Andrew and the Daily to checko.
- 26:50Speaker 3: He doesn't control him getting the ball. He gets open,
- 26:53Speaker 3: but the other guys have to get the football. That's
- 26:55Speaker 3: just that's they're over him. That's the way it is.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough, traffic, long lines,
- 27:02Speaker 1: We've all been there, but when it comes to your cannabis,
- 27:05Speaker 1: Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is the dispensary for
- 27:10Speaker 1: sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly, with plenty of
- 27:13Speaker 1: free parking.
- 27:14Speaker 2: You'll be in and out.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Fast, no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care
- 27:18Speaker 1: about convenience. Camdn Apothecary is all about the guest experience.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Their staff makes sure you feel taken care of every
- 27:27Speaker 1: time you walk in. Plus, they carry only the best
- 27:30Speaker 1: quality cannabis at the fairest prices, So whether you're stocking
- 27:34Speaker 1: up for the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a
- 27:37Speaker 1: big win, you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying.
- 27:41Speaker 1: They even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 27:46Speaker 1: service members, and healthcare pros. Cam Den Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 27:52Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 27:55Speaker 1: one and up. I am interested to see Johnny Wilson though,
- 27:58Speaker 1: because I want to see how he performs against you know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: another defense that's not the Eagles defense for a few weeks,
- 28:04Speaker 1: and how the just how the lower body looks after
- 28:06Speaker 1: the surgeries.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Because I think He's had a pretty decent camps look good.
- 28:09Speaker 1: He's come out of his breaks well, especially for a
- 28:12Speaker 1: guy who's six with six.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Had a nice little rapport going on with both Doll
- 28:15Speaker 2: and McKee.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So he'll be a guy to watch just because he's
- 28:18Speaker 1: gonna push because of his ability to be a hybrid
- 28:21Speaker 1: tight end and a special teams player.
- 28:23Speaker 3: He can block man Johnny Wilson. I know he's not
- 28:25Speaker 3: a tight end, but he can block. He really plays
- 28:28Speaker 3: in line a lot. And in fact, you'll see that.
- 28:30Speaker 3: What will happen is you'll see him out. Why then'll
- 28:32Speaker 3: reduce him so he pick somebody off the guys. It's
- 28:35Speaker 3: the dominant blocker.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yep.
- 28:36Speaker 3: And he's healthy. It was one of the things I
- 28:38Speaker 3: saw in OTAs I saw him run, I was like, wow,
- 28:40Speaker 3: he's for major knee injury, leg injury. He's doing pretty
- 28:43Speaker 3: darn good. So yeah, it's honestly, it's it's very easy
- 28:48Speaker 3: to point this out. All the stuff we put on
- 28:50Speaker 3: offensive defense, it's the same stuff we've been talking about
- 28:52Speaker 3: for three weeks. We've added lampkin Michael Jordan Moore because
- 28:56Speaker 3: he's the one veteran. He's a true vested veteran Major's
- 28:59Speaker 3: come on the last week and a half. We're ready.
- 29:01Speaker 3: You know about Drew Kenne will be talking about him
- 29:02Speaker 3: all off season. He put on the bulk. We'll see
- 29:06Speaker 3: whether they does he play center or guard in uh
- 29:09Speaker 3: in the preseason, we'll see what happens. And Jake Major
- 29:11Speaker 3: has been a nice story. Can't do anything about the arms.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Can't grow these arms any longer. It's impossible. Can't sprinkle
- 29:16Speaker 3: on anything on there. And then you know, but not
- 29:18Speaker 3: that it matters. There's no way Quaes Watkins is making.
- 29:21Speaker 3: It won't be hilarious. If you had like an eighty
- 29:23Speaker 3: yard play, it.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Would be like vintage Quais Watkins having an eighty yard
- 29:27Speaker 1: player in a preseason game. That's not gonna amount to
- 29:29Speaker 1: anything from a special team standpoint, Watch Rock and Underwood.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Watch the snaps a little erratic sometimes in practice. Uh,
- 29:39Speaker 1: Jake Elliott, you know, he's been very, very good. He's
- 29:42Speaker 1: he's looked fine. He's done everything he's supposed to do.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But now you're in a stadium, you're playing against another team.
- 29:47Speaker 1: It's sits to I get it's still preseason, but you
- 29:50Speaker 1: want to make sure he's crisp. But the field goal, yes,
- 29:52Speaker 1: if he gets those opportunities.
- 29:54Speaker 3: He that's a big deal. He is healthy. With the media,
- 29:57Speaker 3: can that's a ton of questions, a ton of quot
- 30:00Speaker 3: because they're trying to figure what the hell happened last season.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Last two seasons. I mean, he's gone from.
- 30:07Speaker 3: He had a minor, he had something. He didn't miss
- 30:10Speaker 3: any practice time, but we had heard he had some
- 30:12Speaker 3: soreness lower body.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 30:17Speaker 3: He looked fine. I mean I made sure to watch
- 30:18Speaker 3: him when I could in training camp. But this is
- 30:22Speaker 3: a big This is a big deal because you can't
- 30:24Speaker 3: have this anymore. And the fact that they didn't bring
- 30:26Speaker 3: anyone to compete agains him is shocking to me. Just
- 30:28Speaker 3: push them a little bit, I know, not doing it.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Apparently it's a little bit late in camp to do it.
- 30:32Speaker 3: But so there we are.
- 30:34Speaker 2: All right, that's it.
- 30:35Speaker 1: That's who we're looking for when the Eagles play the
- 30:38Speaker 1: Ravens in the preseason opener Saturday night.
- 30:40Speaker 2: That is going to do it.
- 30:41Speaker 1: For this episode of Inside the Birds, the leading podcast
