Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here live from Gill, Colorado, this morning.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to be talking about soybeans with regards to China because it's that time of the year, finally.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Brazilian beef exports and what's going on with autonomous trucking.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Huge movement on the cattle side of things yesterday.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Live cattle closed up big, a little over five bucks at$220.95.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle closed at six and three quarters up at$3.30 and a quarter.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were mostly unchanged across the board.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: In the front month, they were up two ticks at 78.15.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Before I quote the grain markets here live, like to pop on our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to quote the markets every single day.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And as I look here live, November soybeans are at 1321 coming back down just a little bit this morning.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Corn's the same way.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: December contract is at 538 and three quarters.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And wheat Chicago December is at 719 even.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: On the weather discussion for today, rain over the next five days is focused in the hard red wheat belt for the next one to three day QPF puts one to two inches across eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and the Oklahoma-Texas panhandles through Thursday.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Indiana and Illinois are going to see a nice little dry spell which will help farmers get into the fields here.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, as you can see, there's a little bit of white over those states there to harden up the ground, allow those combines and grain carts to get in there.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: This was the grain market chart for today that I thought was very prevalent, seeing how Trump is going to meet with President Xi.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: On Friday, the USDA reported another 111,000 metric tons of U.S.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: soybeans sold to China, which brings China's 12.4 million metric tons bought since February, just under half of the 25 million metric tons it's committed to for 2026.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So obviously, still have to get quite a bit of soybeans out of here.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: There's going to be a lot of discussion surrounding so many things when this happens.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Obviously, the grain markets is what we're focused on here on the ag side of things.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: But pay attention to other things.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Like we've talked about, a rising tide affects all ships.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: On the livestock market discussion for today, this is Brazilians, Brazil's China beef quota versus its 2025 shipments.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: 2025 is that line at the top there.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Monday, after meeting with the Uruguayan president at the UN, Brazilian's president Lula posted that he had tr thanked Uruguay for authorizing Brazil to use the surplus in Uruguay's China quota.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: That's that green section on the chart.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: A version of this deal stalled in July, so it's no real turn.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: But so far it rests all on this one post that he made.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: No volume, a year, or terms have been published, and Uruguay's foreign ministry hadn't commented as of Monday afternoon.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot to be undecided there, but as you can see, not just a lot represented from Uruguay there in the grand scheme of things.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: This headline caught my eye this morning because we're going into harvest season here at home in Colorado.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: We're right in the midst of silage harvest with a bunch of trucks zooming around everywhere, and the price of diesel is just outstanding.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: The autonomous trucking company Aurora looks to accelerate towards profitability.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Chris Earmson, Aurora founder and CEO, told CNBC that Aurora is targeting positive free cash flow by 2028, driven by the substantial increase in the number of autonomous trucks on the road.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: The company says an autonomous truck can operate more efficient efficiently and at a lower cost than a semi- with a driver behind the wheel.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're looking for ways right now to increase profitability and the input costs are as insane as ever.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying autonomous trucking is going to be here by even 2028.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: But it'll be something to look forward to, or maybe not look forward to, but look at in years to come if this is the way that we're going to, you know, help improve the bottom line when it comes to transporting on a national scale.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: America runs on diesel, and diesel is going to stay fairly uh costly for quite a while, probably.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: So this will be this was interesting to look at this morning, I thought.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar for today, the ADP weekly employment change comes out right as I'm speaking now at 7 15 a.m.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Central.
