- 1:37to the podcast and to the Patreon And it all started, uh, basically
- 1:42what we're gonna be doing. We're gonna be doing some reviews and discussions on
- 1:47some of our favorite classic black films. You know, usually start with black
- 1:53films, then we're gonna go branch out into general classes that you know,
- 1:57all people should know that. But we're definitely gonna start with, you know,
- 2:00the classic films that you know. Ever, we feel most people feel
- 2:05that all black people should know. And I feel like this conversation in this
- 2:08whole this whole series, the genesis of this came from the movie we're gonna
- 2:15start talking about today, Boomerang, And I was very disturbed to find out
- 2:23that, Kenny, you never seen Boomerang before today or before to this,
- 2:29and am you never seen it? I never saw the whole movie. I've
- 2:31seen all pieces of seen the movie with. Elsie never seen it and has
- 2:36not seen it, which is why he's not pictured right now. He's on
- 2:38the chick fil A run Um go we get my chicken boy. Wow.
- 2:46M J was the director as he was nineteen at the time of filming.
- 2:53Nineteen ninety in nineteen ninety one, I think ninety ninety one or something like
- 2:58that. So oh it turned home he quin, did you watch it?
- 3:01I've seen it before, but that's a goddamn shame. And he seen that
- 3:07ship. Mm hmm. You should be a shandier song for what he's mad
- 3:15young he didn't seen as a quarter white. Yeah, I'm sorry that he
- 3:19wasted two hours before I did. It got Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence in
- 3:22it exactly, and a young Chris Rock. That's my issue with it,
- 3:28all right, woke get there there starting off rot. Well, I'll tell
- 3:34you all right, so let's do a quick overview of Boomerang, real quick.
- 3:39Boomerang is a film, uh there is it? Directed by Eddie Murphy,
- 3:46now directed by directed by Reginald Reginald Huddling. I think he was part
- 3:53of the writers, Eddie Murphy, because he was like he wrote the story
- 3:55was by Eddie Murphy s other dudes. At this point, Eddie's like on
- 4:00time of the world. Yeah, you know, you're right. So I'm
- 4:04gonna give a brief I'm gonna set the stage for the movie and then give
- 4:09an overview of the movie. You want to get you want to set the
- 4:13stage for the movie, I'm gonna do it. But I was like,
- 4:19let this nigga do it because I was there. Literally you were two,
- 4:27but you were there five six. Yeah, there you go. Y'all.
- 4:30Niggas weren't even born yet. No, we were not. That's that's that's
- 4:34the funny thing about it. But no, this is like, uh,
- 4:39Eddie was like, this is post Beverly Hills cop Uh what else Harlem Knights,
- 4:46Harlem Knights, like obviously his stand up specials, like this is when
- 4:51he party all the time? Oh this way yeah wait wait wait wait wait
- 4:56after that, wait after that. So Eddie was one of the biggest stars
- 5:01at the time. You say he'd be the biggest black comedian at the time.
- 5:04Oh hell yeah, yeah for sure. Yeah sure was this after um,
- 5:10what's that movie with the Golden Child? This is a trading places till
- 5:14his first his first movie in the nineties, coming to America, after the
- 5:20first movie in the his first big movie, and then well another forty eight
- 5:25hours, but it's the first, like but damn like for I want to
- 5:28I don't want to take but stick living all those bangers though Beverly Hills Cop
- 5:32All the Beverly Hills Cops to the Beverly Hills Cop two, the Beverly Hills
- 5:36Cops. Forty eight hours, Trading Places Coming to America, Coming to America
- 5:42forty eight hours both forty hours coming to America, gold Column Knights, Golden
- 5:46Child, Remember of the time, Trading places, trade ops, that trading
- 5:51places with Dan Ackroyd, He's just bangers, bangers, bangers, bangers bangers.
- 5:59He made music hits us singular hit. It wasn't supposed to be a
- 6:08hit, but it was a hit. But it was a hit. It
- 6:10was a bet, and he cashed out on that bet. He he took
- 6:13the over anyone. I don't know. There's ollion. He had him,
- 6:16he had he was top of it. He topped the charts, and then
- 6:19on top of that, this is not even the fact that this nigga started
- 6:23out. It's a stand up comedian and his stand up is going co wasing.
- 6:28That's true. So I think at this point Eddie's on some shit like
- 6:33I'm the biggest black comedian in the world, probably the biggest Black actor in
- 6:38the world at this point. I think that's a strong argument for that.
- 6:42So it's like it was like him essentially in the comedy because it was him.
- 6:46Yeah, I'll say Denzel was a big Westley Denzel. Those are big
- 6:53ones I can name. I'm taking myself back at that time. Yeah,
- 6:56early nineties, that's probably it was him, Westley Zelle and then oh he's
- 7:03the man. He's the man. And I think this is a point where
- 7:10he was trying to do something different from what he usually did, and that's
- 7:17just a straight out something different from the straight out raucous comedy, something that
- 7:23had a little more I want to see substance to it, but a little
- 7:28different, a little more mature, a little more sei, sexier sex,
- 7:31a little sexier. You know that moment where all right, where you kind
- 7:39of knew that Will Smith wasn't just a comedy guy. He could have that
- 7:42sex appeal as like a bad boys, right that when he's running and the
- 7:49shirt open on his flip fla. I know Kenny dreamed at night, so
- 7:58I can't think about family like that. So I think I think that was
- 8:01his or his attempt at a bad boys to where it's like I'm not just
- 8:09goofy Eddie Murphy, like I can be a suave debonair and still be funny,
- 8:16but like I don't have to be a joke. And the thing is,
- 8:20watching this movie, I'm like, yo, Eddie Murphy's not that bad,
- 8:22like like he's a good looking guy. You know he wasn't. He
- 8:26wasn't like like Eddie Murphy was a good looking guy. But he was looking
- 8:28at Eddie like he was like like he was an ugly nigga. Like I
- 8:31think he was the one of one of those types back in the day.
- 8:35But I think people, you know, he could look good. Nobody was
- 8:39going like oh Eddie like h in Zell and yeah. But I feel like
- 8:46this movie is like you can see him like oh he like like he actually
- 8:48okay, okay, I can like he can pull this, he can pull
- 8:52he pulled it off like so I think this was his moment of like and
- 8:58I think not like Chris Rock doing it like fucking like Top five is like
- 9:01this nigga's like getting big. It's like nigga, no, who are you?
- 9:05He could never I'm sorry. The one thing about Eddie Murphy is he
- 9:07suffered from the tiny teeth syndrome. Okay, so like the time, like
- 9:15as soon as he opened is my father there it is there ye, sexy
- 9:18Peal gone. Okay, Sexy Peal gone, okay for you, all right,
- 9:24your penis went down when yeah, yeah, once I saw my man
- 9:28got chick lit to him. Yeah, that's crazy. So yeah, I
- 9:33think this is at this point, you know, he's done all the comedy
- 9:35dominated comedy. Well, it's really it's literally like when Michael joneses like,
- 9:39I'm gonna I'm gonna play one of the biggest box office draws at the time.
- 9:43Yeah, I'm gonna play baseball, And this was Eddie Murphy trying to
- 9:48take pick up a bat and this is it. It came up with a
- 9:52boomerang. Was this one of the he note he wrote hard m Knights or
- 9:58he was a big Was this one of his first movies other than the Harlem
- 10:01Knights where he was like extra question, exactly can we talk about the movie?
- 10:05Just setting the stage. It's only ten minutes. I'm trying to we
- 10:09gotta it's a two hour long movie, all right, whatever. Yes,
- 10:16he did write Harlem Knights, written and directed, so you know Harlem Knights,
- 10:20and honestly, a lot of the people didn't know Harllom Knights didn't get
- 10:24that much love when it first came out. When it first came out,
- 10:28I didn't get a lot of love, and I think that kind of I
- 10:31think Eddie Murphy said he went through like a kind of a depression over it,
- 10:33or he was really messed up about that. And then I think,
- 10:37you know, this was you know, Boomerang, his just pivot to be
- 10:43found a bad trying to be like, yo, this is dude, like
- 10:46your ownership in black film and whatever, like putting people other actors on and
- 10:52giving other act black actors to space an opportunity and to do his thing.
- 10:58So yeah, so now over here, the movie Boomerang is is very simple
- 11:03movie, very simple, very simple movies. Not a lot to chew on
- 11:07and think about here. Boomerang is about a lot of Greek moments, though
- 11:11a lot of it's about him. It's about it is the story of a
- 11:15marketing exact, Marcus Marcus Graham. Marcus Graham doesn't matter, Marcus Graham.
- 11:22He plays a marketing exact. Basically, he's the man. He knows how
- 11:26to get the women. He's a suave player. He basically he knows how
- 11:30to poor woman. But he doesn't get commitment with him because after he has
- 11:33sex, it guess he has. He just loses entrance. You know,
- 11:37he got his friends. One's a little too brash with women, one's a
- 11:41little bit of a pussy, and he's like, he's kind of like that's
- 11:45Martin Lawrence as the brash one and David Allen Greer as is the pussy and
- 11:50he most certainly is one. I guess we can talk about the cast a
- 11:52little bit too. Oh yeah, and so like basically it follows him picking
- 12:00up women, he finds his he finally meets his match, and um Robin
- 12:05Gibbins, who was a lady that gets hired at the company over him.
- 12:09They have all the same She kind of like dumps him, breaks his heart.
- 12:15Did he falls for Holly Berry randomly because it's not always the one that
- 12:20you right of course is not the one that you expect or the one you
- 12:26think he want, is the one that you need or deserve whatever. It's
- 12:28about them going through relationships, cheating, whatever, whatever, and then they
- 12:31get up together at the end. But I guess we can talk about the
- 12:35cast cast was in it because it's some i'd say, big name. We
- 12:37don't have casts like that anymore for black movies or we don't really have black
- 12:41movies like that the same we do not, we don't. All right,
- 12:45So at this point though, all right, so let's talk about the cast.
- 12:48So we got Eddie Murphy, right, we got Robin Gibbons at the
- 12:52time, who was uh I think this was after she was with Mike Tyson.
- 12:58And according to this, they were saying how they were kind of nervous
- 13:03about her being on there because and like they kind of she was viewed as
- 13:09like a gold digger and like all the issues and everything went Tyson. So
- 13:13it was kind of but she had she had an image at the time.
- 13:18It was touchy. She had a negative image, a young halle Berry,
- 13:22like just very young, just very young. I think this might have been
- 13:24like because I remember she was in uh. I don't know if this is
- 13:28before after losing Isaiah. No, this is boy before losing ISAA. I'm
- 13:33thinking what last boy scout losing ISAA was a few years ago? Are you
- 13:41saying this is before after Catwoman? All right, at least that's closer.
- 13:48Shit, this was pulling up all these damn yes, yeah, this is
- 13:52so she was, Oh, this is after like so she was a member,
- 13:56she was in UH. I don't know if we'll talk about this movie
- 13:58Jungle Fever. Jungle Fever as a crackhead. She was a crackhead and Jungle
- 14:03Fever Samuel Jackson, Yeah, yeah, And then she was also there was
- 14:09another movie that might be on our list, strictly Business that she was in.
- 14:13She was the female lead. And then Last Boy Scout? Is that
- 14:18with a white man piped on the couch? No, that's Monsters Ball.
- 14:22She was the only movie she got. But when I'll put my koufi on
- 14:28later. But yeah, Last Boy Scout was another movie she was in.
- 14:31It's a really good movie, one of my favorites. But uh yeah,
- 14:35so it's a young halle Berry. So she wasn't the symbol that she ended
- 14:39up becoming. Then you got but she was like a beauty queen and who's
- 14:43the girl what's the name of the actress that played the first girl he got
- 14:46with with the dog? So she was she wasn't waiting to accept leader was
- 14:52all the really young niggas out there. She was Canola Oil's mom. Insecure
- 14:58yes, Condola ye no, uh, consolation consolation convoluted. Um. So
- 15:07you got her, you got Martin Lawrence, young Martin Lawrence David Alan Grier.
- 15:13Both of these guys are starting their come out. Then you got starting
- 15:16they're established ma stads, but it's like they're not really like the household.
- 15:20This is before Martin. Yeah, this is you know what I'm saying before,
- 15:22It is right before Living cup during, so they're know what I mean.
- 15:28Then you got Jon Grace Jones, the model, iconic model. You
- 15:33got Birth the Kid, Titia campbell Um, Madame Zerni, that's Birth the
- 15:43Kid. Okay. Then you got even younger Chris Rock with the the most
- 15:50young pre pooky Chris Rock, Like does the youngest Chris Rock I've ever seen
- 15:54in my life? Um? Uh? John, will this moon rest in
- 16:00peace? Um? And I think that damn Jeffrey Holder. Ye, if
- 16:08y'all watch the Bond movie, he was one of the Bond villain, the
- 16:11like the voodoo dude. If you play Golden Eye, yeah, that was
- 16:17like the voodoo guy that was him, and U one of the older that
- 16:21was him. Yeah wow, yeah that's interesting. Yeah, you get which
- 16:25Bob movie it is. But if you play Golden Eye, you know the
- 16:27voodoo with the white face paint in the hat, that was him back in
- 16:32then and when you look at this cash and you see all these like iconic
- 16:36actors, like it kind of is a nice thing because you see, like
- 16:40even when it kind of sweets to Eddie Murphy, how Dobe was putting people
- 16:45on, because it's like you don't really see that that much nowadays. Like
- 16:49we were talking about before, and that's what I was talking about when I
- 16:52texted you when I said, yes, I remember what you were talking about.
- 16:56So you can get into that right now if you want. Yeah,
- 17:00I got a problem. This is where my problem comes in with like Tyler
- 17:03Perry and somewhat Kevin Hart, because that's probably like the biggest black director or
- 17:11whoever whatever you want to call. Tyler Perry like pretty much a whole what
- 17:15is it like a film studio, their media empire. And then you got
- 17:19Kevin Hart and he has his lane and it seems like it's not putting other
- 17:26black comedians on that same level. I can see what, No, I
- 17:30can. I don't know if I have like an equivalent movie or like giving
- 17:36people roles as the same movies, but I feel like he kind of did
- 17:40that in that show. Oh no, he does it in show or I
- 17:44guess, and not really in shows, but in like his stand up,
- 17:47I know he does it a lot. For like, I feel like he
- 17:48kind of did it in that that show, The Real House Husband. I
- 17:52don't think so what Young What Young Up and Comers was a bunch of old
- 17:56names. Yeah, I feel like I think there was some people in there
- 18:00that was like, but the thing is yet, right, We've talked about
- 18:03this prior. It's harder to make movies now. That's also so you can't
- 18:10just be is it. I feel like I feel like, well, when
- 18:11someone owns a studio with Kevin Hart, I feel like Kevin Hart a lot
- 18:17of times in his movie he doesn't have that much power in it, whereas
- 18:21Tyler Perry would. Yeah, part of my problem because I'm thinking a lot
- 18:27of Kevin Hart movies like and he's with the rock and shit, like he's
- 18:30he's just like the star, but he's not like, y'all, I'm gonna
- 18:33bring this person or whatever. But I feel like in this stage of his
- 18:37career, Oh, I know he probably he could do that. He has
- 18:40the power to do that. But yeah, I see what you're saying,
- 18:44And like if Eddie Murphy was able to get that done in ninety one,
- 18:49but hold on, how you know that he's not? What was the last
- 18:53Tyler Perry project you watched? Do you watch any of his TV shows?
- 18:57His multiple TV shows? No, I don't watch no because they're not sexy.
- 19:03Oh they're not sexy. I didn't mean to watch this. Brothers,
- 19:07my sisters, all right, you gotta you don't think miss pat sexy.
- 19:14I mean in her own way. I'm sure in her own walk. She
- 19:18talked her and don't copy white girls like you kind of Oh no, your
- 19:30fucking dick out. Yeah, kid, we wanted to say it, but
- 19:41but like as I was saying, so like how they were saying, like
- 19:44back in the days, it's it was easier to make like a sea level
- 19:48movie, even though he has a lot of big names in them. Those
- 19:49big names weren't like big names yet Oh yeah, but like trying to do
- 19:56that who they were, like people would still know who they were back then
- 20:00because like, oh that's smartin from House Party, that's I was. I
- 20:04would argue that it's much easier to make movies there. There's so many avenues
- 20:08and platforms to put movies out on. Yeah, you can get a movie
- 20:14like Niggas all bload movies on to be every week. Niggas random, just
- 20:21niggas. Yeah, but the thing is the market for it, Like those
- 20:23two be movies aren't being sore. You telling me let's not say, let's
- 20:29not say two movies, let's just talk. So you're telling me somebody like
- 20:33Kevin Hart or somebody like Tyler Perry, or even somebody like a Chris Rock
- 20:37or anybody could like couldn't get like something uploaded on like an Amazon. That's
- 20:48hard. But to put your money in something that's not guaranteed, that's I
- 20:53don't think that was all. I don't know if that was all. I'm
- 20:56not gonna say. I'm not gonna say it was guaranteed. But the thing
- 20:57is, so it's like, Okay, at this point, Eddie Murphy was
- 21:00the top of this top of told them. Yeah, that's what we're saying.
- 21:04Yea. At this moment, I don't think anybody's running to the movies
- 21:08to see a Kevin Hart movie. I feel then he missed his chance.
- 21:14That's what that's what you're saying, or yeah, or like outside of like
- 21:18media, I don't think people are running to the theaters to go see a
- 21:19top because Tyler Tyler Perry has run up a track record putting out stinkers stinkers.
- 21:26But if he were to put his energy into something good and collab with
- 21:29other writers that are just not himself, that is very true. And I
- 21:33think some people got h god, damn um Kevin Hart everybody. I think
- 21:41people were getting Kevin Hart fatigue because he was too oh yeah, and he's
- 21:44been chilling. I feel like if he did something now we might be but
- 21:47that And that's to Mike's point about this movie with Eddie Murphy, he was
- 21:49doing something different exactly, and actually, I mean when you think about it
- 21:53and bomb threats going off, I mean Edie Eddie was kind of like,
- 22:03yeahbviously he's the funny, but he had different because he's a character, dude.
- 22:06He has different characters and stuff, so he can do different things.
- 22:10And then we find out later on he can do drama. Yeah, at
- 22:14some point, but put your listens back to the movie. Let's talk about
- 22:18say, let's let's talk about this. Let's sorry, So let's start with
- 22:19the people start start in the beginning that no, no, let's let's do
- 22:22a quick overview or people like the ones who haven't seen this movie, lamont
- 22:29you what do you think of them? Give us your quick give us your
- 22:32thoughts on the movie. It was. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the
- 22:36movie. Um going through I like, I actually had notes of like when
- 22:42I was watching it. But nice, nice, We love our prepared gentlemen.
- 22:48Oh you know, I'm I'm always prepared because like I could just go
- 22:51through my list. Yeah, going back through the movie. Yes, sorry,
- 22:53you want to just like I mean, the story wise is nothing.
- 22:57I think it's better that he just go through what he did. I want
- 23:00to say, like the like what was big? Also was the soundtrack that
- 23:06sound one of the biggest songs. It wasn't even played. I think,
- 23:10like around the beginning because even damn you are right right block, keep on
- 23:17keeping you losing the contact an I don't hear contacts me blowing it all right,
- 23:23pulse in his eye might well be in it big, but it was.
- 23:30I think this is like the beginning of like when the soundtracks was getting
- 23:33like like crazy, like so speaking from living in that that time, I
- 23:38just remember whatever movie we went to go watch, mainly black movies, always
- 23:45grabbing the soundtrack. That was like I remember I kind of we kind of
- 23:49still have them to this day. End of the Road was on this soundtrack.
- 23:52It wasn't bro Yes, yes they were playing they didn't play the song,
- 23:56but they played it like a piano rendition and I was like, yeah,
- 24:00it was just the opening sequence. So this is the beginning. This
- 24:04is I mean not say beginning, but like new Jack Swing was like that's
- 24:10the right in the middle of the right in the middle. So like,
- 24:12yeah, I think this is like around where like soundtracks was being the shit
- 24:17there you Go by Johnny Gill who and then especially that the baby Face song.
- 24:25Yeah, Tony Braxon Tribal Call. This is a definitely an iconic sound
- 24:30soundtrack. Yeah, but um one of the one of the best. That's
- 24:34why I'm like kind of surprised, like someone like Keenan has never seen this
- 24:37movie. Oh I know the songs, No I know, But that's what
- 24:41I'm saying, like just being an iconic sound movie soundtrack, at least black
- 24:47movies too. It's just it's it's hard for me, like I'll sit down
- 24:51and bend a TV show, but I won't watch a movie. But well,
- 24:53with the point and then also the point of like kind of this is
- 24:56the black movie list when we started. It's like, y'all ever sat with
- 25:00your family and watched this because that was an adult movie. And yeah,
- 25:04but it was adult movie. But I watched it different parents, different parents.
- 25:10That's but something A lot of parents, like Quan scene him, seen
- 25:14it and we kind of joked about it with Mike. Same family. Back
- 25:18in the day. His dad used to look like Eddie Murphy. Oh that's
- 25:22all. He said. The thing about about the cop. Yeah, like
- 25:26that was like before he was, before he was born in the Beverly Hills
- 25:30cop. Yeah, take your dad the girl's hair back. He looked like
- 25:33Eddie back in the back in the day. That was like the joke.
- 25:38That was like the joke, like he used to honestly look like Eddie Murphy.
- 25:45Like my family, I don't know, I want I watched all those
- 25:48RATEDAR movies and shit like that. I think the first movie I think I
- 25:52remember going seeing in like the movie theaters when my family was like New Jack
- 25:56City being like three next year. Parents be like, yeah, I want
- 26:00to kill you so bad. It's hard. I remember the movie, but
- 26:04I didn't take nothing out of it. But I just I was. I
- 26:07was even my parents were young, and I was the only child. Yeah,
- 26:11that's and I think at the time that was I think when that came
- 26:12out, I was like, uh, Weland in Germany at the time,
- 26:15do you remember that line? No, no, very Like I don't remember
- 26:19thee has the gun on on Wesley Snide. He's like he's like shot so
- 26:27bad, my dickets hard, like like anyway, go ahead, go through,
- 26:38it will go through, go to my list. As I was watching,
- 26:41um, let's see, so Eartha Kid was really applying pressure. This
- 26:47was like sexual harassment. Oh, definitely before those days. And I was
- 26:52like, wow, that's that's crazy to see. My my, even you
- 27:00thought I was a cad, like do you know why? Do you know
- 27:03why? I don't know she was and she used to be. She was
- 27:07back in the Good Lord thirty years ago at that point. Yeah. But
- 27:11if y'all don't know about Earth the Kid, like she was like she was
- 27:15at the John back in the day, like apparently there's a she talks about
- 27:18it. How like it was. I think it was like Steve. She
- 27:22had a three song with Steve McQueen and Marlin one of those. Yeah,
- 27:25I think that's big, the big niggas. I think that's right. And
- 27:27then but also they were three summing, but also they were messing with each
- 27:33other. Yeah, it was it was Hollywood, real Hollywood, real,
- 27:37Hollywood. But yeah, she scammed Marcus because yes, he only got with
- 27:41her because he thought he was gonna get that position with you know, the
- 27:45company burger. The only position they got was doggy style nigga like, can
- 27:48you turn the lights off? Making more sexy? And she's like, the
- 27:55lights can get doing this? He's she said something sexual and then the butler
- 28:02looking around, was lading and walked away like you said you cut but yeah,
- 28:08And as I was I was watching, I was like, m M,
- 28:11halle Berry is probably still more attracted than Robin Gives at this point to
- 28:15me, And at no point Robin Givens more attractive to halle Berry. Know
- 28:19that in that movie, in this movie, in this film, and no
- 28:23point. I mean honestly, I'm I'm gonna keep in jail real real.
- 28:27The first what's her name, what's her name? The first girl, Leela
- 28:33Rashaan was the best looking one to me. Yeah, okay, for he
- 28:40kind of he kind of downgraded. He went from the best then the Robin.
- 28:42Again, we go through the notes because there's a reason for that.
- 28:48There's a reason for what. It's an origin story for him. Jake,
- 28:52Oh the feet, Oh yeah, I already know that. And then um,
- 28:56it was just funny. That's the origin. But I guess we go
- 29:00through you week ago there. But Eddie got beat at his own game pretty
- 29:03much, was Robin. It was oh yeah, yeah, good to see
- 29:07when he hit when she hit the with when she hit him with the you're
- 29:10not getting serious on me, right. I was like, that was a
- 29:15shotgun blasted to a player. I was like, oh, she was not
- 29:21given enough. She was when he had to prove his mac daddy, I'm
- 29:23like, ro you lost, don't. Don't you see this? You see
- 29:26him like ro stop like like stop, Eddie, know what was up with
- 29:32him not wanting to watch basketball with it? Like because me? Because he
- 29:34was trying to fuck yeah, I can after watching basketball. He was trying
- 29:38to be like he was trying to be Roman trying to watch the next But
- 29:44that's the problem. He has to know he should have been more of a
- 29:47chameleon if he the man that I thought he was watching the movie. He
- 29:53first of all, let's be real, he's liking her now. Well that
- 29:57was the first that was the first the first meet up. He liked her
- 30:00before that. No, no, no, he was just trying to fuck
- 30:03he liked her, He didn't know. Okay, he liked her. You
- 30:07could say he liked her, but just like he liked the just first just
- 30:11when I tell you she he liked them the first time they met, and
- 30:15like she was like, he's ridiculous. It was like it was a challenge.
- 30:21Yeah, he like challenge. He liked the challenge. He's like,
- 30:22oh, you're gonna work me, you You're gonna make me work for the
- 30:25scoochie. And then it's like he went there. They did it, and
- 30:27it was like, now I feel like I'm being homie out. Like he
- 30:32passed me a beery, passed me a beer. Yes, she was working
- 30:37her game. Yeah, and it was worked because he was liking her.
- 30:40He could have watched the game with her. He lost because he wasn't in
- 30:42the game. It wasn't in the right mindset. He should have adapted.
- 30:45He could have still. They were talking about he just he caught caught up
- 30:51in the gulchie. He didn't like, Oh I could walk into the elevator.
- 30:55Oh yeah, but but but you keenan, you gotta realize like,
- 31:00first of all, they're trying to make her be Hallie, be like the
- 31:03homebody. Yeah, oh yeah, of course not definitely get the door.
- 31:07Yeah, at the time, Hallie, she wasn't that then. No,
- 31:11even even a girl next door, she's still look better on there. Yeah,
- 31:15I mean, but that's just your opinion, just like it's my opinion.
- 31:18But we got at the end. You gotta think that time. You
- 31:21gotta think that time period. You probably wouldn't think that then because you know
- 31:25her what she was after that. Nah, No, definitely, I just
- 31:29have a certain tasting woman. Yeah, yeah, I think and after the
- 31:33best I've actually never seen like I've never understood the hubbub about Robin Givens,
- 31:40to be honest with you, not even gonna lie, but you know,
- 31:44taking your own um. But yeah, Holly buried the entire time. But
- 31:48you got anything else. No, No, I'm still going the lingerie,
- 31:52under the coat, under the rain car wasn't at all. I'm elite,
- 31:56elite. I love that. That's that. That was a big nineties thing.
- 32:02You will see that in movies and sitcoms in the nineties all the time.
- 32:07Or girl just shows to the to the homie crib where just a trench
- 32:10coat and then they opened it up. It's just I want I want to
- 32:14be pulled up on it. That's so fun. Fire m that is fire.
- 32:20I mean, that's definitely tough. That's that's tough. That's tough because
- 32:25at that point, you already know what time we own b exactly. I'm
- 32:32watching the game tonight. Jordan can go for eighty. I'm putting. I'm
- 32:37putting on my own forty piece trip. I love that. That. Yeah,
- 32:44please bring that back, ladies, bring that back, baby. I
- 32:46know you're listening. I'm just like, um what all the women were laughing
- 32:53at him when he walked into work and h Robin was at the front desk.
- 33:00I was just thinking, like, still beat, still still beat,
- 33:04still beat, my boss, still beat. I don't know why he was
- 33:07chipping about that. I don't know what, because the roles were reversed.
- 33:12Now, women's like, so, how was the Dick game? You know
- 33:15it was like, yeah, it was good, and y'all y'all can get
- 33:19something too. Yeah. Now, the problem was I didn't like that.
- 33:22He didn't like that that. The problem I had was when he did it
- 33:24with one chick and the chip was like, when are we gonna fun.
- 33:28Don't want this? Oh strange. I was like, you don't want this
- 33:32pussy? Said, everybody wants this pussy. We'll get to that. That's
- 33:37when he was already locked in on he was I made that mistake before.
- 33:44Um no, no, not that, never mind, Let's just just just
- 33:47never mind never mind. It would be the role reversal of being like,
- 33:52it's cool, let's see man pass you off to the homie. So so
- 33:59you was the one going want this dick? You got no, no,
- 34:00never never mind, never mind. Let's just let's forget that. We can
- 34:05talk about that later. Um. Then I'm getting we're getting to the uh
- 34:10halle berry stage of the movie. She had a line that when they were,
- 34:15you know, cuddling after watching Star Trek, that's how you really knew
- 34:17that that they were, like they were meant to be. I'm a treky
- 34:21too. He's like, oh yeah. He woke her up just by like
- 34:24stroking her head and kissed her. And then she said friends can kiss.
- 34:29And I was like, oh, I'm like, oh, you dirty bit.
- 34:34That's an aid, old an age, old adage right there. Friends
- 34:37can kiss. She's like, oh you dirty hallie. What else we got.
- 34:45Oh, and that whole relationship. He definitely violated David Allen Greer violation
- 34:53like he had all right, the chopping in their throat. Yeah, just
- 34:59slapped in with that pool stick. Yeah, he definitely hands needed to be
- 35:02exchanged. Very violation over that, and honestly shame on her too. Listen
- 35:10she said, like they established themselves as friends as friends, but it's like
- 35:16it's on your boy, your boy, but it's like shouldn't you have na
- 35:22Like nah, no you want how Nah? I wouldn't do that, Like,
- 35:27yeah, I'm gonna go for his one of his best man's like come
- 35:30on a week, Like you can't wait a little bit. Oh, that's
- 35:35the problem I have with the whole movie. There's no set timeline, very
- 35:37like you don't know what what time is going on. I will say,
- 35:40halle Berry's moving in this house. She's got pretty much a little mini studio.
- 35:45What is that? It could be six months, it could be a
- 35:47year. We don't know. Only time difference we saw is the difference between
- 35:52when they like as when he got caught cheating there broke up to like when
- 35:55he came back. They said was like four months because the little kid was
- 36:00like, how long has it been since you've seen this? Four months?
- 36:02In two weeks exactly or something like that. So that's the only time period
- 36:07we have exactly it's four months. So otherwise it's just you can infer that
- 36:10this probably took Coach over a year, maybe because you got Thanksgiving, I
- 36:15don't know, but like you don't know, you know, because yeah,
- 36:19it was wearing coats the whole time. Yeah, Yeah, impossible to know
- 36:22because in New York and movies in New York, it's always cold all the
- 36:23time, all the time. No summertime unless it's summer is in New York
- 36:28ever, I mean, it's either it's it's no mix. It's no mix.
- 36:32It's either chili in the fall. It's either summertime where it's definitely hot
- 36:37and it's only hot, or it's brick cold and it's only cold. Yeah.
- 36:44And my last note was he didn't have to quit his job. Yeah,
- 36:47I don't know why he did. That really ode and the whole relationship
- 36:52with now we're just going I'm going to talk about, like my complaints of
- 36:54the movie. The whole relationship with Hallie was such a small part of the
- 37:00movie, Like time wise, like he was with her, then they broke
- 37:06up, then they just got back together. All happened, and like I
- 37:09think, yeah, it was all third act. That's what I was thinking
- 37:15when I was watching. I had a problem with that just in the structure
- 37:17of like normal storytelling. Yeah, because there was no like relationship development.
- 37:22It was. It was just like we're in a really very smart it was
- 37:25it was small because it's very small and subtle. Yeah, exactly went from
- 37:30her on the plane and stuff like that, Like, but that was like
- 37:32friendship. Like I knew playing the seats. I knew that they was going
- 37:36back when she was in the office talking to Robin Gibbons like, well,
- 37:38you know Marcus guy, the reputation. I'm like, you're interested, You're
- 37:43gonna fuck him as soon as she asked about when he asked him about her,
- 37:47like he want to be with her, right, I'm like, oh,
- 37:52okay, they're doing that women's shit. Um, but yeah, I
- 37:58do kind of see how like they didn't really uh, I guess lead up
- 38:02to it much. I think the problem for me was once they got once
- 38:07they started, they hit the ground running with who like him and Hollyberry,
- 38:15Like as soon as they were they were washing dishes one minute and literally six
- 38:17minutes later he's taking a shower in the like she got our whole art studio.
- 38:24That's what I'm saying. Apart, that's what got me. I'm like,
- 38:27yo, this is That's what I'm saying. Like they don't show an
- 38:30actual relationship. It's like Thanksgiving washing dishes and now you're living with me,
- 38:34and in this whole time, he didn't hang out with David. Uh She's
- 38:39moved in not once, not once, just hey, like okay, like
- 38:45damn, yeah, it's kind of well, that's that's you see that.
- 38:50That was my complaints the only complaint I had from this movie, because the
- 38:53movie was fine. It was what it was. It was fine. But
- 38:58when you hear the hass I need more funnies, bro see, that's the
- 39:05problem. It wasn't supposed to be that exactly. It doesn't have to be
- 39:07that, but but it has to be that. No, but like like
- 39:12like you can have organic, like funny, serious moments like so like how
- 39:16Mark Lawrence his his whole thing was oh everything black and him saying the black
- 39:21Man. That could have been execute a lot better. It could have been
- 39:24more funnier. I think it was probably funny for the time. This is
- 39:28thirty years ago. Listen, man, if that's that's that's another thing.
- 39:31That's a lot of it. Back then when niggas was like that was really
- 39:35running around the street like that, we still got niggas running around the street
- 39:37like that. Now they were more prominent. These niggas got the Internet down.
- 39:44Yeah, then they can just talk to each other that have talked to
- 39:46us that I was saying so like like like I just wish like there was
- 39:52a couple. Like the funniest moment when was when he asked Madame Zerni to
- 39:55make the room darker again, like even darker. That was the funniest moment
- 40:00in the movie. It's not supposed to be like it wasn't supposed to be
- 40:01ha ha ha ha. I don't need it to be ha ha, Like
- 40:05I don't need no, no, I don't need my stomach to hurt.
- 40:07But keep me like, keep me engaged more. I thought it with a
- 40:15funny like and I thought a lot of funny moments in the movie, like
- 40:17like like if they would have made like every time that the three of them,
- 40:22Mark Lawrence, Eddie Murph and David Allen Gray was like a joke wasn't
- 40:24there wasn't there was there were Joseph, there was no when they're on the
- 40:30rowing machines, there were jokes. When they went to the the the shopping
- 40:38with the white dude that was saying, like just the food, why don't
- 40:45you just call us jungle bunny. Yeah, I thought it was. I
- 40:50thought they had good moment and end up. First of all, your your
- 40:52cat because the things giving scene, that whole thing's giving ship was funny though,
- 41:00from the beginning to when they left was funny. John Witherspoon killed that
- 41:05ship. He did his typical bang bang bang, you know when he do
- 41:08like you got to coordinate, and he was like, so you was like,
- 41:14that's what old on with these movies. You gotta take yourself to that
- 41:16time. You said, did his typical This is the first that's when it
- 41:21was hot. That's no, no, no, no, this is where
- 41:22it started. This is where that was where it started, where the bang
- 41:28bang bang. So like, so he's sport yourself to win. Its like
- 41:31back to the first time you heard the first You're gonna You're gonna he ain't
- 41:37got no nipples like round funny it was when you first heard that hit.
- 41:42That's that for then what were you gonna say? That's they're no nipples.
- 41:46So John Witherspoon, the trivia is like his scenes were added after film didn't
- 41:52have rapped, and he said, Eddie Murphy demanded the scenes with Witherspoon be
- 41:58added to the film, and withers picked his outland, his wardrobe himself.
- 42:01It and all those lines were improvised. Nice. That makes you That does
- 42:07make a little bit funnier because when he was like, wasn't He's like,
- 42:10hey, did you know that's just that he brought a whole trough of child
- 42:15if you like that room suit, Like, look you got Courtney. He's
- 42:20like, Courtney, look, did you know that the inside was mushroom too?
- 42:23Yes, smashing in his bathroom out he said, put the jacket on
- 42:30the inside out. He's like, he's like, hey, bocket to the
- 42:34tutor. I heard this girl. The job got you pussy with you need
- 42:38to revert with that pussy My god, that was really key. You're come
- 42:45on, you're not doing that. You got stick coordiny. I just felt
- 42:51like we should have got that. I'm saying, but you can't. That's
- 42:55weird, But but that's also that character started. That's why. That's why
- 43:00I was saying earlier before we started recording that it didn't age well at the
- 43:06time. So like, there are still old funny movies that you watch them
- 43:09in twenty twenty three of them things have still got ruch and funny even if
- 43:13you've never seen them before. But I don't think that would like we said,
- 43:15well, of course this this was this was definitely supposed to be a
- 43:17rom com. Yeah, I didn't get much calm, like like I got
- 43:22enough for me the com then age for twenty twenty. I think the comm
- 43:27is supposed to be a supplement to the romantic nature of it, not to
- 43:32be the star. It's not. Of course, you got some romedy romantic
- 43:36comedies where it's more funny, the funny takes place, like like, I
- 43:40don't know if you ever seen that movie on Netflix always be my maybe with
- 43:45the two Asian people. There's Asian people. You don't watch that shit?
- 43:47Uh watching Asian stuff? Uh yeah, just start looking at it. Man
- 43:54doesn't count, um, and rush hour doesn't count either, So why not
- 44:00what I can't wait from rst hour four? That'd be great exactly how it
- 44:04is coming right? Nice? Um? So yeah, like I thought,
- 44:07you know, I thought it was it was enough funny for me to keep
- 44:10me engaged. Um. Yeah, like I was watching that movie, like
- 44:16driving to my game today, like had a whole basketball game. I'm like,
- 44:20I finished this movie because they were like, what's the movie? What's
- 44:22the movie? Because we told you? I told you on Saturday. Yeah,
- 44:25I've been saying this since what day did Jay say? Every every day
- 44:30since Friday days? It's been many days. Year really been all going on
- 44:36a year close to a year. But the reason why we haven't watched it
- 44:38until I haven't watched it today, it was because we're supposed to do that
- 44:42as a group. But my team let me down. Okay, so your
- 44:45team, sure, the team let you down, but we let you down
- 44:50Friday eight or before that. We mean we told everybody to watch it on
- 44:55Friday, Friday and Saturday and Saturday and Sunday and and like four times today,
- 45:00And when did you watch it? I watched it today. So don't
- 45:05complain. No, I still can. I know you can't. You had
- 45:08plenty of time, sure, but I ain't. I'm not gonna just stop
- 45:12everything I'm doing to watch what the fuck anything? But watch boomerang, I
- 45:16could be doing anything. It was actually Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, Friday,
- 45:22Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The whole weekend had a whole five days.
- 45:27You can't find two hours ago a hundred and something something hours, Listen.
- 45:30I knew that. I knew that we was gonna start recording until Monday,
- 45:34So I'm like, why the funk? I gotta rush to watch it?
- 45:36And don't you be shaking your head? Yes and again watch that ship
- 45:38because movies come on in the daytime too, nigga hundred I had time to
- 45:46watch it. My fault, one hundred and twenty hours. Couldn't find two
- 45:50hours? Nope? All right, then, all right, did you do
- 45:54sixty times too? What did you do sixty times too? No? I
- 46:00saw hundred twenty on your calculator. I did twenty four times five. Okay,
- 46:02I'm just making I mean, I could have done it in my head.
- 46:06Listen, I'm just making sure you didn't do sixty times two. Why
- 46:08would I do that? I don't know that. I was just asking,
- 46:10Hey, sometime change. That's not to say you can get to one twenty,
- 46:14listen. I was just asking. I was just asking forty times three.
- 46:17Oh, come on now, Jesus Christ. Um. But yeah,
- 46:24twelve times ten, thanks Kennan. Yeah, it was definitely good enough,
- 46:30good enough for me. I enjoyed them, so twenty times one. What
- 46:34would you give it out of scale of one to ten um right now,
- 46:40probably like a seven at the time. It will probably would have been like
- 46:45an eight and a half. If I was like watching it in the nineties,
- 46:50I probably like that seven seven is still a solid scorer. Yeah,
- 46:54that's definitely I'm like seven seven and a half compared to like people compared them
- 47:01to all his other movies. That would be just like in the middle for
- 47:06him. But I wouldn't I, like we said, I wouldn't judge it
- 47:08as like a comedy. I judge it as like a rom com. And
- 47:15also, what's the crazy thing about this movie. I did watch this,
- 47:19and while I was watching, I was counting this. You know, I
- 47:22was surprised at how few white people were in this movie. Sure, but
- 47:30I'm thinking about at the time, how you could do that in the early
- 47:37nineties. Just shows you how much pep That's what I'm saying that just it
- 47:39just made me like, Wow, this nigga really had the juice juice to
- 47:45make a movie where no white people spoke. It's three white people spoke in
- 47:51that movie. The waitress, the dude at them, all the little girl
- 47:55work in the store, and the French people that they were presenting the things.
- 48:00Yeah, that's it. No white other white people spoken a thing.
- 48:04Eddie talked about that on our Senior Hall show. Um, there's a one
- 48:09of the interviews on there he talked. I think he talks about that like
- 48:13just having our own but he was at them. But like I say,
- 48:16he had the power to do that shit, But where's that now? Not?
- 48:21I mean Tyler, Tyer Perry, Spike still has that in a sense.
- 48:27I mean, I guess Spike actually always had that to be honest with
- 48:31but he includes them. But it's for the story, like you need some
- 48:38of the white people in it. But there are plenty of movies where he'd
- 48:42probably would be all black. I'm trying to think, but yeah, I'm
- 48:46just trying to think of people that make movies that would make content that would
- 48:51be doing that. Tyler Perry INNYA Boris God, No, he's a ray
- 48:57could do it at this point. Yeah, what's his name? Will Packer
- 49:05could be a good one. I could see her actions, the one like
- 49:07you didn't talk about tron Jay Moore. I mean the fact that she kind
- 49:10of did it with Insecure bringing in a whole Do you mean what about strong
- 49:15Jack? Her scene still in the whole movie? Once scene is still in
- 49:21the whole movie, the restaurant scene. I didn't really think I ain't gonna
- 49:25lie her birth in the fucking perfume that those really didn't do too much.
- 49:30That was stupid. She was just a little over the top, like,
- 49:32yeah, I feel like that would be like a better in the time.
- 49:37That's definitely that was a dated thing to me, like those people see like
- 49:43I guess it was like it didn't hit for me like that. Yeah,
- 49:47like he's gay. That guy is gay. Now that was kind of funny.
- 49:51Yeah, he was like, you're not gay, My brother is gay?
- 49:59Okay. Take her panties off at the table, like no, I
- 50:04thought she just had a cucci because she just lifted her leg up like you
- 50:09no, No, it was it was at the boardroom. Didn't have the
- 50:14essence and said this is what this is what like very crazy. I punched
- 50:19her in the fucking throat. You crazy, but the nasty Nelson yeah,
- 50:29but had had the chick sucking on the lipstick with the cherry. He's like
- 50:34lipstick cherry banana, he was. He's I like the ice cream, and
- 50:40I like, I like, I like the oranges banana, and the cherry's
- 50:45gotta go fair enough, he said, what's it called? After bath?
- 50:52After bath, after bath, after bath? Boy be our tea? Yeah,
- 51:01yeah, honestly she had kind of Yeah, I didn't. We could
- 51:06have din without her. I ain't gonna little some of her. We could
- 51:08dine without her. Yeah, at the time, it was probably free,
- 51:10yeah, because she was like that was her coming up when she was Yeah,
- 51:15but she was coming up. I'm like she was. She was the
- 51:19deal back then. Or about teacher Campbell scenes, she was cool, those
- 51:23are cool, those are cool. No, home girl, Well he gonna
- 51:29do you doggy style. That was crazy. So I don't think God realized
- 51:32this. But like when she first put the sign up, the back of
- 51:37the sign was white and she flipped it. So then when they cut and
- 51:39went back to her, now she flipped a sign and they got more words
- 51:43on the back. I'm like, oh, we could have fixed that.
- 51:47We definitely could have fixed that. The movie was okay, Okay. I
- 51:54think it's a solid six and a half block black film, especially you know,
- 52:00for the time. I think it paid the way for a lot of
- 52:01you know, the different things we got. Now, um, I need
- 52:06a movie like that now, I would need they try, but they like
- 52:09do it. I mean they didn't think like a man. Maybe yeah,
- 52:14but that's like too many white too many white people speaking in that that that's
- 52:17not my problem. White guy's main character in that movie, and think like
- 52:21a man, a white guy's a main character in that movie. I'm thinking
- 52:23of why I get married? Yeah, yeah, but did but he's been
- 52:30married to a black Kevin interview with Cam Newton with him when he's like,
- 52:36have you ever been with a black woman? Gary? And it's like,
- 52:37nigga, you did not do your research on Gary Owen, not at all.
- 52:40He legit has black kids, So what do you think like kids that
- 52:45a black kids? Nonetheless, that's truly well now, but he was in
- 52:50their lives, had a whole reality They had a whole reality show. Dumb
- 52:53reality show, but whole reality show. It's like, do you not do
- 52:58you not know anything about your guest? Nigga, Nope, I was gonna
- 53:01say think like a man was over a decade ago. Now need something else?
- 53:07I need more. They tried to do like the black versions, like
- 53:09black version of About Last Night, like they did with Kevin Hart and uh,
- 53:15I think Gabrielle Union and what's her name, Regina Hall. I guess
- 53:21we need more than just Kevin Hurt. Yeah that's a problem. Well,
- 53:24well, I guess. I mean, I think we already knocked it out
- 53:28our list. But there was a time in such in the two thousands where
- 53:30black round cons are going crazy like stupid, and a lot of them were
- 53:35involving Gabrielle Union. Yeah, like she was in Damn heare the one that
- 53:39just came out on Netflix is pretty No I'm talking I'm talking about like I'm
- 53:44talking about perfect fit or something who can play that game? Him delivers from
- 53:49Eva? It was good. What's the other breaking all the rules? Like
- 53:53I never watched that. I didn't. I don't think I fully watched because
- 53:57it was ya breaking the rules. It was that. That's not one that
- 54:00was like you got no vice has ever said I, but Boomerang had a
- 54:07big impact. Definite derics from Eva or breaking two can play to that game?
- 54:12Which one I would say, mm probably delrics from Eva. I know
- 54:16what, I don't like to complay that game? Your home girls in it?
- 54:22Who was my home girl? You know? Do the voice? Don't
- 54:27you know who I'm talking about? I swear to got it on that girl.
- 54:30Oh she's in it. No, that's not fair because she's she's in
- 54:34two can play that game. That's all I'm talking about. I say,
- 54:37I like that one, said Eva, Oh it is better than that.
- 54:40She was like, I am not a side six I'm a side sixteen.
- 54:45That's big. That's baby blay. See if they all blake, save the
- 54:53pressure, come on, love that depressure, come on. Then want to
- 55:01do that? And I was like, that's all you got. She wanted
- 55:05to do it in precious so she got your degree and you know what,
- 55:12that's all you got. That movie and who it's It's it's rough, rough,
- 55:19but I mean it's one of the roughest things you want. Bro.
- 55:22It's when you when I tell you that girl never gets a break. It's
- 55:27just Elle after Elle after Elle after and as soon as like she you see,
- 55:35she gets a little glimmer of hope. Aids dad ass like dead ass,
- 55:40dead ass, you know how? And um in pursuit of happiness where
- 55:46like the we would say, like the bottom, the bottom is where they're
- 55:51like pretending to sleep in the Uh, it wasn't pretending where they were sleeping
- 55:54like what they pretended. It was a dimeer game. Yeah, her,
- 55:59it's just that the entire movie. If you never it's just that the whole
- 56:02movie. It's really rough. Every now and then they cracked the door open
- 56:06through a smoke bombing. Yeah, and then like yeah, and then it's
- 56:08like it's comes spikes in it. Maybe some days it's just smoke, some
- 56:14days it's working, it's firecrackers. It's always rough, and so what's the
- 56:19next movie? But well we'll figure out what we might do a poll on
- 56:22that one. But we had the list or unless we want to decide what
- 56:25we want to watch. Yeah, we got the that got the list.
- 56:30You've seen life? Have I seen life? I think that was one.
- 56:32You didn't see life, nigga, that's it, that's it, that's it.
- 56:38You've seen life. Life depresses me, but it's been years. I
- 56:42saw it when it came out. Life is depressing when you think about it
- 56:45too much. Life is hilarious, brog the corn breast. Life. What
- 56:52nigga. I mean I think I got, but I forgot that we like,
- 56:59we did the list. I had the list. It's bold, not
- 57:04that it's bold and black. Life break there. God, it's got to
- 57:09be life, man. But that's what I was saying. You know,
- 57:14this movie impacted my life dearly oh with defeats because that scene is the reason
- 57:21why I have a foot fetish. But how how like because because it goes
- 57:25to what his philosophy was. If she don't have, she don't take care
- 57:31of her feet, everything else is chaos too. Wait your time out?
- 57:37Do we have We never saw her holly Berry feet. He didn't. He
- 57:43didn't do that, but he did it with Robin Givens, and he even
- 57:46stayed with Robin gives her feet. Did that because he just coming off the
- 57:50trauma of the first girl. I think I thought he did that whatever he
- 57:54said that they did it with all girls, but they never they just because
- 57:58they didn't estab jam got the relationship. Yeah, they didn't go through that
- 58:02because it went from he might he might have looked at the feet when they
- 58:06was just chilling, and went from after the Franks can kiss to hurry up
- 58:09and get out the shower I want to show you something kind of crazy.
- 58:14That's why I agree with you all the way. That one was like,
- 58:15what the fuck? But you do? And then she moved out just as
- 58:20fast. I'll come back and get myself. I was like, okay,
- 58:24okay, but that set your ass home last night. He did what I
- 58:30mean, he smashed and then looked at the feet. But also, you
- 58:34gotta think back in the nineties, pump sward thing. Yeah, so women
- 58:37will put there. They weren't open toes back in the day. So a
- 58:44lot I got. I got a little bit of luxury, a lot of
- 58:47corns, a lot of bunny I can look at them first and then decide,
- 58:52m all right, So life is the next one. Life is the
- 58:55next one? All right? Then life? You're listening to this? How
- 59:00long I got to watch that? I mean, this is only because for
- 59:02a while. We decide to do this again. We're gonna do it next
- 59:07month. Let's see every two weeks. Every two weeks, alight, So
- 59:12two weeks, okay, two weeks. Sure, we can always watch age.
- 59:16You know what we can do. We can watch it on the way
- 59:20to Montreal. So you're most like gonna be in the front seat. We
- 59:25can watch it on the way to Montreal collectively. All right, everybody pressed
- 59:30play you any kid? We could do the watch together on Plex. We
- 59:36could, we could, we could. Whoever's driving, everybody's gonna be silent
- 59:39watching the movie. Whoever's driving will be sick. They think driving has to
- 59:45be the one that has to like, already seen the movie. That's all
- 59:50right, mad averybody's gonna be quiet, headphones, ain't watching the movie,
- 59:53Kennan, I swear the guy you're gonna be cracking the fuck up. I
- 59:57probably want to talk about this. I've seen clips from some motherfucker right here.
- 1:00:01Yeah, got some hardy, hard harsh. Yeah, yeah, I've
- 1:00:07seen clips. That's just seen clips from it. For the life of me,
- 1:00:09I don't know what my baby's I don't know what after that movie.
- 1:00:15I don't know why they didn't make more movies together. I don't know.
- 1:00:19They must hate each other or something. The money probably wasn't there, or
- 1:00:22just different schedules. Yeah, or just after the movie like that, I
- 1:00:28would be like, Yo, let's do it, let's do something. Yeah,
- 1:00:32you would like no, I mean that's a class like we got a
- 1:00:37Chris Rock Bernie Mac movie and they might have already had, you know,
- 1:00:42something to work that was funny. But it's just a bunch of facts,
- 1:00:49like shit is different that you still think that was what nineteen nine like things
- 1:00:57got this thing things work differently than it is now. And it's also probably
- 1:01:00because the budget was eighty million and they only made seventy three point four.
- 1:01:04Yeah. No, And he's talking about Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy doing another
- 1:01:07movie together, them doing stuff. But that's probably why. That's not why.
- 1:01:10It's because things that I mean, it took longer to make movies.
- 1:01:14It took longer did movies to come technically it's a failure. And yeah,
- 1:01:17it's they're two expensive actors, but Martin Lawrence did other stuff with other expensive
- 1:01:23actors. I think what Mike's talked, well, Mike's talking about it couldn't
- 1:01:27have worked because you got to think about the times then, I think,
- 1:01:30no, movies took longer to make exactly they were actually still using film.
- 1:01:35It wasn't digital yet, you know, even to the point where like these
- 1:01:38nineties movies, they were in theaters, but back in the day you had
- 1:01:43to wait for Blockbuster for it to come out on Blockbusters. Then I had
- 1:01:46to wait a little bit longer for it to come out on like HBO,
- 1:01:50and then at the time and it wasn't like like what movie just came out
- 1:01:53and now it's already on streaming or I forget what it but like something else
- 1:02:00that I don't stream everything, so but a lot comes streaming, like right,
- 1:02:02it will be in theaters for like oh three yeah, a month,
- 1:02:06and then it'll be on streaming right out there. But I think what Lamont
- 1:02:08saying is if that money actually that movie actually made money and then lose money
- 1:02:15facts, there would be more incentive because there was for them to make a
- 1:02:19movie together. And then that's like you know what it's like. It's like
- 1:02:23it's literally like the Brooklyn Nexts, like you signed all these niggas, that's
- 1:02:28all these expensive ass niggas, but you didn't make it to the Eastern Conference
- 1:02:32Vinyls. You lost in the first round. We lost in the first you
- 1:02:36got swept. So it's like, well, if we're not gonna make it
- 1:02:38that for anyway, well I won't pay all these niggas. This is like
- 1:02:45they're paying, is That's what I'm saying, Like you're paying all these expensive
- 1:02:47niggas and you're expecting we put them two dudes together, You're expecting to make
- 1:02:53money, but not only make money, but make a lot of money,
- 1:02:58not lose money. That's I think, Like I said, at the time,
- 1:03:01there was they had other like you gotta think at that time bootlegs actors
- 1:03:07are are they already have deals in place? Bootlegs is the reason why that
- 1:03:12they have deals in place for other movies already that like he might have already
- 1:03:16been signed, Like he might have already been signed to get to film Big
- 1:03:21Mama's else three, Big Mama's House, and then Big Mama's House goes big,
- 1:03:23and then Like and then also Martin Lawrence and then after Big Mama's House.
- 1:03:28I won't, for fun tell that I was when he had his I
- 1:03:30won't disagree with that, but I would I would also like to conject conject.
- 1:03:35I don't know if that's a word. I would like to say that
- 1:03:37if that movie, what was the what was the budget eighty meal, if
- 1:03:43that movie made two hundred million instead of seventy three, I think we're I
- 1:03:47don't think we see Big Mama's boots legs bootlegs like, but that's also right,
- 1:03:53why a lot of Black films did. Because sure, something like that
- 1:03:58that's going crazy in the hood off bootlegs, it's considered probably got classic like
- 1:04:03classics like Black when it came after the theater. Like, so you guys,
- 1:04:11Patreon, you know what it is. Next time, make sure we'll
- 1:04:15be back in two weeks. Make sure you watch Life so you know you
- 1:04:18can participate in the discussion. And anybody you know you're in the discord you
- 1:04:23want to chat with us about about Boomerang. Actually, any of you haven't
- 1:04:28go seeing Brang, go supots Boomerang and it come to discord and chat chat
- 1:04:31with us about it, you know what I'm saying. And then yeah,
- 1:04:34and no need to tell us like, oh, y'all should watch this because
- 1:04:38a lot of movies. The whole thing is a lot of you know,
- 1:04:42I'm saying a lot of them. The whole point of this is so y'all
- 1:04:45can see the movies that ark Dean Black classic. But we already there's a
- 1:04:49lot of them that we already established that we all seen. So we're going
- 1:04:53through basically nine times out of ten. If you suggest one, we probably
- 1:04:56already got it. So don't even worry about it. Wo put a pole
- 1:05:00out and be like, which, yeah, you're watch next, because they'd
- 1:05:02be like, oh, well, I'm joking Friday next. Yeah, don't
- 1:05:04don't already seen everybody. Don't come in here talking about oh you guys,
- 1:05:09you know what you guys really need to watch? You need to watch Boys
- 1:05:12in the Hood. Then I'm gonna fucking digitally slap you in the fucking face.
- 1:05:16Don't let me check the list real quick. All right, No,
- 1:05:19I believe everybody in here seeing boys in It. I hope. So I
- 1:05:23thought everybody in here watching Life, but I can't. I really cannot believe
- 1:05:27it. Didn't watch Life, never seen Life. All right. So well,
- 1:05:30yeah, we're already fifteen minutes over our Patreon, so give us more
- 1:05:35money. I mean, there's no time limit, but no, it's a

- 1:06:41Ak, doctor Waffle Yes, and we got uh MJ here and um in
- 1:06:45turn, Homie Kwan Man in the camera. Great nickname, great nickname.
- 1:06:48Thanks for all the listeners that gave him that nickname. UM, and we
- 1:06:53got a special guest here today. We're gonna have a little quick little chat
- 1:06:56with him, our man, our man e Boone from the Live Breathed Football
- 1:07:01brand. He created that brand. Nice to have you here, Ma man
- 1:07:06Hey, happy to Maria, Thanks for having me, of course, of
- 1:07:09course, of course, and first of all, just tell us a little
- 1:07:13bit about yourself and the brand and everything. Yeah. So the brand's called
- 1:07:17Live Breathe Football. It's a soccer inspired apparel company. I started about eleven
- 1:07:23years ago. Now, I started back when I was a you know,
- 1:07:25college kid at Temple in Philly. Just made some T shirts on my twenty
- 1:07:29first birthday and then just like sold them online and they sold that, and
- 1:07:32I was like, oh, this is cool, and I just kind of
- 1:07:34kept doing it, and then after I graduated, just focused on a brand
- 1:07:39full time. And then you know, eleven years later, we're here.
- 1:07:42You know. So we focused primarily on like lifestyle kind of mixed the next
- 1:07:45street where fashion with like sort of soccer inspired graphics and things like that.
- 1:07:53So you got your start at Temple, Yes, did you play soccer a
- 1:07:57Temple. I didn't play at Temple. Okay, okay, it was just
- 1:08:01like a love for soccer beforehand. You just threw it out there, say
- 1:08:05I'll make some shirts, and then it all all somehow came together. Yeah.
- 1:08:11I mean I was born in Nigeria, so obviously I grew up playing
- 1:08:14soccer there. You played a little bit of high school, played a club
- 1:08:17ball at temple, but I not for a temple. Is that when?
- 1:08:20Is that when you gave up? That's when you realize like, is that
- 1:08:26is that when you realize like, oh yeah, I'm not gonna be I'm
- 1:08:30not gonna be the next you know, not gonna be him? Yeah?
- 1:08:34Oh yeah. The dream died away before that. Yeah, the dream was
- 1:08:40there in like high school when I realized like, I'm really fast, but
- 1:08:43like I wasn't like, you know that technically gifted. So up, I
- 1:08:48was a much better artist and designer than I was a soccer player. Yeah,
- 1:08:51he wasn't getting chipped off the europe fast. I mean that's true.
- 1:08:56If if you had the talent, he'd probably already be there. But at
- 1:08:59that age, all right, so you was in Temple. How many times
- 1:09:01have your shipments been robbed? You know? Temples the ghetto? Man,
- 1:09:10I don't know if it's been there recently. It is north, but it's
- 1:09:13not recently. It's that way for watch, it's firmly in the hood.
- 1:09:16I mean it was worse for back when I was there. But thankfully no
- 1:09:19I didn't, I didn't get robbed. Well that temple. Um, that's
- 1:09:24good, that's good. Yeah, yeah, all right, so before you
- 1:09:28even get started, I want to we got to establish this first. Um
- 1:09:30what what what clubs do you support? Personal? Oh that's that's very Nigerian
- 1:09:39of you. Yeah, come on, I thought it was gonna be Chelsea
- 1:09:45from the uh you know, your recent collab. But that's surprising. No,
- 1:09:49I mean, listen, we go, we go wherever the bag is
- 1:09:53that the listen, like a bag is a bag? Man the Chelsea Chelsea,
- 1:10:02you can be Chelsea. Yeah, you can speak yourself. First,
- 1:10:06of I don't watch football. I'm talking about as like him, hearing him,
- 1:10:10you know, man, I don't think trade lately. I'm hearing for
- 1:10:14the check only. Don't make me put up. I'm not putting on no
- 1:10:16blue bro all right, at least not that all right? So Arsenal,
- 1:10:20Okay, that makes sense. We got we're you're in the present. We
- 1:10:25have everybody here, you know, state chair allegiance, so we can fight
- 1:10:29about it for the next twenty minutes. Man Man City or very many Manchester
- 1:10:34United of course, and the greatest club in the world Liverpool Football Club.
- 1:10:41Um, yeah, what is hold on? Hold on? Hold on?
- 1:10:45What is oof? Let see? Arsenal gets a little, a little taste
- 1:10:54of success start acting different. They do. I think he can say that
- 1:10:58about you and your team. I can only count what I started watching when
- 1:11:00we started watching this twenty seventeen. As far as I know, we've been
- 1:11:06on top forever, right, see see that all I know? Please come
- 1:11:17back. So you had no idea about when Daniel Sturge was there? You
- 1:11:25know what? You know what? You know what? Actually I do because
- 1:11:29funny story, when I was in senior high school back in twenty eleven,
- 1:11:34we went to That's crazy, shut up. We went to uh we went
- 1:11:41to Disney Disneyland, disney World for our senior trip and they, you know
- 1:11:45how an Epcot they have like the English part, and I guess in the
- 1:11:48story they were playing. They were playing Premier League football in the TVs and
- 1:11:54I just remember seeing Liverpool play somebody and Daniel Sturge was playing really well,
- 1:11:58and I was like, I like those guys, and that's when I decided
- 1:12:01I like Liverpool. Yeah, okay, well okay, it is what it
- 1:12:06is. But yeah, I don't really the history I've been trying to get
- 1:12:11a breast of. But this is a lot going on. It's too many,
- 1:12:16too many things. Yeah, so boone, I actually had a question
- 1:12:23for you. How did the Austin rivers Austin rivers Austin Reeves like collab or
- 1:12:29like appreciation from him? Where did that come from? Again? I mean
- 1:12:34it was just like another organic thing, which is how most things that happened
- 1:12:39with the brand come about. So I was just at dinner one day here
- 1:12:43in Philly with my guy in a movie or Cugo, who used split Philadelphia
- 1:12:45Union. He's retired now. Um, you know, he's just having dinner,
- 1:12:49chopping it up, and this guy comes by his friend Reggie, and
- 1:12:53you know, Reggie starts we started kind of chopping it up or whatever.
- 1:12:55He's oh, like I'm a basketball agent. I'm like cool, he's got
- 1:12:57Macia, have his brand whatever. Whatever. Oh he was a super good
- 1:13:00dude whatever. It turns out he was Austin Reeves agent. Um. And
- 1:13:03I think this is right before Austin went to the Lakers. Kay, oh,
- 1:13:08he had just started playing for the Lakers. He was like yo,
- 1:13:10like you know, obviously we were looking to hook him up with stuff.
- 1:13:12So I just sent him a bunch of girl I was like, yeah,
- 1:13:15for sure, like you know, you know, he showed love and then
- 1:13:17Austin just started wearing it. And then I think, um, the Lake
- 1:13:21Lakers played in Philly early. I think it was January last year, and
- 1:13:29yeah, they didn't lose that game because of course Lebron was hurt. Um,
- 1:13:31I think it was hurt after like the Brooklyn Nets game or something like
- 1:13:34that. So you like, Reggie hits like yo, like we're in Philly,
- 1:13:36like me and Austin like want to just come by the office and I
- 1:13:40was like, yeah, pull up. So they just came through, chopped
- 1:13:43it up, like We've had a really good conversation. He's a super good
- 1:13:45guy. And then from he always just wears the stuff like it's super organic.
- 1:13:47It's not like we're paying him or anything like that. Star like but
- 1:13:49like bro like he was a shout out. It's just like he likes his
- 1:13:53stuff and he just wears it. O. That's dope. That's really dope,
- 1:13:58good stuff. So yeah, well let's make this genetically modified. We
- 1:14:02need to get him on the podcast or if you can hook us up with
- 1:14:04his agent. So shameless you couldn't. I'm very shameless. If we can
- 1:14:11get Austin Reeves on here, that would be great. You might can bust
- 1:14:15I might more than just come bust. It'll just bust. He'll come bust.
- 1:14:20Yeah, he'll he'll do all that. No fire involve. So for
- 1:14:29that, I say next time. You know, they aren't Philly in the
- 1:14:30area, and I'm saying, you want to hit us up after hitting the
- 1:14:32money? Yes, please stop. I can't make any promises. Please don't
- 1:14:40don't do any don't nothing, don't do anything for him, y'all don't want
- 1:14:44us to be great. You don't even watch football? Were you just good
- 1:14:46thing? We were talking about a basketball player though. How did the Chelsea
- 1:14:57deal come about? Jesus right? Uh, that was just kind of another
- 1:15:01organic situation too. Um. We're kind of having conversations with Dick Sporting gets
- 1:15:06for a while. Um, and then the buyer's super cool guy. You
- 1:15:11know, we kind of have a lot. Were kind to share the same
- 1:15:14vision for what like soccer in America could be and like the direction that's going.
- 1:15:17And then one day he hit me up like, hey, like,
- 1:15:19you know, I'm going to London to meet with a different Premier League club,
- 1:15:23would you mind if I pitched LBF? I was like sure, why
- 1:15:25not? So he went to he went to England and then Chelsea was the
- 1:15:29first one to bite, and they were like, hey, we're in this
- 1:15:30USA tour, Um, send us some ideas for like, you know what
- 1:15:33what you guys are thinking. And we sent them a few designs and they
- 1:15:36love the first design we sent them, so and that was that so nice?
- 1:15:42Yeah, that's amazing. Now is there an opportunity for like other clubs
- 1:15:45to get in on it or is it just exclusively with Chelsea? No,
- 1:15:49no, no, we don't have any exclusive rights with Chelsea, um,
- 1:15:53he said. I said, everything we do super organic, Yeah, exactly.
- 1:15:57Um. Obviously I want to grow at the LBF brand, and I
- 1:15:59think you know, anywhere we can leverage other clubs, you know, fan
- 1:16:02bases, um, like the USA tour, anything that's sort of relevant to
- 1:16:06what we're doing, we can tell a unique story. I'm always open to
- 1:16:11working with clubs because plus, like you know again, like our brand is
- 1:16:14like about football first and foremost, um, and in our game, the
- 1:16:17clubs and the players are the big protagonists, right, It's all about support
- 1:16:23and all that. So if we can help Chelsea spread a particular message while
- 1:16:28sort of you know, growing our brand at the same time, like,
- 1:16:30I'm all for it. Okay, Okay, and you said something about your
- 1:16:34vision for soccer in America. What what is that? What's what's that vision?
- 1:16:40Yeah? You know, I think for me obviously, I was born
- 1:16:43in Nigeria. I'm black, black, you know what I mean. And
- 1:16:45I think the game needs to be more diverse first and foremost, um.
- 1:16:47But more than that, I think from like a product standpoint, it's too
- 1:16:51things. One is like a mission, um, and that mission is sort
- 1:16:55of like for people to express themselves, um, you know, and their
- 1:17:00love for the game, which is where like the brand mission comes in.
- 1:17:02And the second thing is in product. Right. I think fanware is overall
- 1:17:08generally very terrible, um, And I kind of I don't want to change
- 1:17:12that, right. So it's like saying, Okay, how do we kind
- 1:17:15of tell a story about the game that we love through fashion, through street
- 1:17:19where um, in a very unique and also very interesting way. So that's
- 1:17:24really like my vision because obviously, know you go to stadiums and you see
- 1:17:26everyone's got a great tissue with the T shirt with like their favorite club on
- 1:17:30it, like a little like a crest. It's like that's if you're not
- 1:17:31wearing a club, kid, you're wearing right. So I feel like every
- 1:17:40season we get these really incredible kids most of the time, and then the
- 1:17:43rest of the range is not doesn't match up. But I think our brand
- 1:17:46can kind of feel that gap and say, look, we have interesting stories
- 1:17:50to tell, interesting apparel that I think, you know, fans from different
- 1:17:56clubs will will like because you know, because our our approach is not like
- 1:18:00a one size fits all thing. It's okay, Philadelphians differ from Chelsea,
- 1:18:03It's different from National, the United It's differ from Arsenal, and like each
- 1:18:06thing we would create for each of those clubs would be very different and unique,
- 1:18:10because again, I think that's what the game is about. Yeah.
- 1:18:13Yeah, A lot of the companies, even like Nike, Adidas, whatever
- 1:18:16it is, they have like a copy paste kind of strategy with a lot
- 1:18:19of the gear. So yeah, so I think ultimately their approach is like,
- 1:18:26sorry, like Nike's approach, for example, is with kids, It's
- 1:18:30like Nike has a template, then the clubs fit the clubs. International teams
- 1:18:32fit in that template. We can see that with the Women's World Cup,
- 1:18:35the Chelsea kid the templates the same, miss the colors are different, which
- 1:18:39is kind of a Nike first approach. Right, and I think from like
- 1:18:42a production stand like a manufacturing standpoint, it makes sense. It's more efficient.
- 1:18:46Um, but for kind of the space that I want to play,
- 1:18:48and it's like, look, every club's different, so we'll give every single
- 1:18:51club a different collection. Yeah, because Nike here talked to Nike because they
- 1:19:00have been dropping the ball with Liverpool because I am not impressed so far.
- 1:19:05Really, no, I'm not impressed. I'm not I don't know. I'm
- 1:19:09just not feeling them, the new balance ones, even though it's a new
- 1:19:13balance, I mean even I don't know, maybe they tightened up next year.
- 1:19:17It's just I haven't been feeling them. But real quick, do you
- 1:19:21have a favorite kit, all time, all time kit. Yeah, it's
- 1:19:27gonna be the I mean I have a bunch of them, different reasons.
- 1:19:31Um. One of them is the nine ninety eight Brazil m the whole Yeah,
- 1:19:39the yellow one that was sex super iconic to me. Obviously, France
- 1:19:43Natia as well. Um, and then the Nigeria ninety I think it was
- 1:19:48ninety eight. Ninety eight France is a classic. Yeah, the Nigeria ninety
- 1:19:54eight one with the green one with the black stripes on the side. Um.
- 1:19:59Okay, and then obviously the Arsenal hybrid kid like that room with the
- 1:20:03big oat to in the front class that one, that one, that one
- 1:20:09goes crazy for me, that's the yeah, yeah, yeah. Back in
- 1:20:16my non soccer appreciation days, for the longest time, I thought those were
- 1:20:20the team names on the front and not just companies that were brands who was
- 1:20:27like like just different stuff. When they would be like okay, uh uh
- 1:20:30pro sports and betting, okay, all right, team name, what a
- 1:20:36what a squad? There's a lot of flight teams out there airports dominating the
- 1:20:43soccer world. Well, I think that's interesting that you mentioned that because for
- 1:20:49me, I think um sponsors for a lot of the kids that like growing
- 1:20:54up, we're pretty iconic. Like remember the Intern kids when they had Perelli
- 1:20:58on them, like that blue and black with the yellow Pirelli logo was like
- 1:21:01super iconic commission. When they switched from Pirelli, I was like damn,
- 1:21:04Like it kind of became part of the kids, and it's like the story
- 1:21:09of the club because you know, Enter obviously an Italian club, Pirelli's an
- 1:21:12Italian company. But now with the game being still global, you're having like
- 1:21:15a bunch of like random sponsors from different countries, just like you know,
- 1:21:19sponsoring different teams, and like, I think it loses like the connection that
- 1:21:24it has that particular place, like exactly Arstons in London, but like Emirates
- 1:21:28is a you know, Emirates Airlines, you know what I mean. So
- 1:21:31um, but I think, um, I like what Chelsea did um and
- 1:21:36their preseason tour. The kids don't have any sponsor on them really though for
- 1:21:43the longest time, because I was at the game at the Link on Saturday
- 1:21:46where they played Brighton and the kids are just like blue with the Chelsea crest
- 1:21:49and like the Nike logo, and I was like, Yo, that's actually
- 1:21:53the first I want to see more kids without sponsors. Um. They look
- 1:21:57a bit plane, but I think it was just something awesome now that that
- 1:22:01would be fires a lot of money, Yeah, yeah, of course.
- 1:22:09But I mean it's like national team kits, right, yeah, exactly.
- 1:22:12They don't have sponsors on them, just the creston maybe. And I think
- 1:22:15like the design becomes more important than like because we have that logo in the
- 1:22:20front kind of takes a little bit away from the design, right, but
- 1:22:23I think it makes the design more interesting. It's like there's no sponsor from
- 1:22:26the front. Like right now I'm wearing the United Pink jersey with the big
- 1:22:31ass Chevrolet logo logo, and that logo so horrendous. It takes away from
- 1:22:38like the whole Yeah it's key or the kid. Yeah, that's that's actually
- 1:22:42a great example because Chevrolet has such strict brand guidelines that like you can't use
- 1:22:46just like a one color exactly right, because the one color black or that
- 1:22:50kid would look sick, that would be so bold, weird, three dimensional
- 1:22:55thing just looks so convoluting, like it takes away from the rest of the
- 1:22:58jersey because in my opinion, yeah, it's like a big sloppy American.
- 1:23:02Yeah, just sloppy American. Yeah, in the middle of my chest,
- 1:23:10sloppy American turd and lam Lamar always come through with the kids, man,
- 1:23:15I don't know how how many kids you got, probably like thirty. Damn.
- 1:23:20It was like different ones over over the years. I mean it's been
- 1:23:24decades now I don't have one. What's your favorite my favorite kid, the
- 1:23:29one one that I have or just in general, yeah, collection o,
- 1:23:36what's my favorite one? Probably I got one of the it's like the Corinthians
- 1:23:44Japanese. You know that the one like honoring their club World Cup. I
- 1:23:49don't know. I don't know if you saw that one. Yeah, I
- 1:23:51got that one. That's probably my favorite one. Is it all the Japanese
- 1:23:55letters? Yeah, it's like a off white color all that one. You
- 1:23:59got that one? Yeah, I was worried here. I don't remember.
- 1:24:01You probably sleep probably, Yeah. My cohes like because I work a full
- 1:24:10time job. Sometimes I come back and I'm tired when I record here,
- 1:24:15and they like to definitely not sometimes. Okay. The two niggas that are
- 1:24:17laughing the most don't have jobs. So we're like, good thing. We've
- 1:24:20been doing this for years. Where are you at two pm on Tuesday at
- 1:24:27work? You ready? I'm a weak? Yeah? Should I tell you?
- 1:24:33I'm not? I don't got time to sleep. I actually have all
- 1:24:38the time. Anyway, we're gonna move ahead, slowing ahead from the jobless
- 1:24:44man. Um, So what do you feel or how do you feel about
- 1:24:47a messy coming to MLS? That was guess and do you think it will
- 1:24:53be good for American soccer? So? I think this is a multi layered
- 1:24:59question. Um, good for American soccer? How would we define what's good?
- 1:25:04For American soccer. Is it going to sort of increase in investment in
- 1:25:09like youth soccer programs, so like less fortunate kids can have access to high
- 1:25:13level coaching and all that. Maybe I don't know, right because because to
- 1:25:17me, that's really how we improve US soccer. Right, that's like the
- 1:25:20first and foremost like eliminating paid to play. Um, is it going to
- 1:25:26increase investment in sort of US soccer obviously increase MLS viewership? I think that's
- 1:25:31definitely gonna do that. Even for my business now, like we're gonna make
- 1:25:36more money because Messi's in MLS now, Like that's just like, um so
- 1:25:42yeah, I think from like a financial perspective, it's going to be more
- 1:25:45money invested in soccer in this country. Um. I just hope that it
- 1:25:48eventually like gets to the people that are the future of US soccer. Right.
- 1:25:54I think one of the biggest challenges US soccer has faced or and still
- 1:25:57faces, is the fact that like young kids in inner cities don't have access
- 1:26:00to I mean, what do the kids play right in Philly, like Journeyman,
- 1:26:05Like, I think more money needs to be invested in youth soccer.
- 1:26:09It seemed like there is in basketball and football programs. Um. So yeah,
- 1:26:14for me, that's really what it comes down to. It is like
- 1:26:15a young kid in the city Philadelphia should not have to pay to play high
- 1:26:20level soccer, right, because then if we can figure if we can solve
- 1:26:24that problem with the talent pole this country has, we can definitely definitely be
- 1:26:30you know, a world like we're gonna be we canna be world beaters.
- 1:26:33The challenges that For example, you look at the best players that on the
- 1:26:38national team now, a lot of them didn't play in America growing up.
- 1:26:42They play in the European Academy, right, you know what I mean.
- 1:26:45So it's like, how how how how much longer can the US say,
- 1:26:49hey, we want to if you want to win a World Cup when you're
- 1:26:53not even really given the most athletic or the most talented kids in the country
- 1:26:58a shot at you know, because it's too much money guaranteed. Yeah,
- 1:27:02too much money guaranteed in that so they don't want to put that into urban
- 1:27:05cities. But that's a whole different conversation. Here's my pushback to that,
- 1:27:11though. My pushback is this, right, like, Okay, you'd rather
- 1:27:14charge twenty and thirty kids a few thousand dollars right as season or whatever it
- 1:27:18is to play. That's a very short sighted game, right if you do
- 1:27:21the European model, which obviously needs to be tweaked for an American economy,
- 1:27:26But do you your European model, and everywhelse in the world goes, look,
- 1:27:30we'll develop all these kids, we'll get them education, but we sell
- 1:27:35one kid to a big club for a few million, few million dollars,
- 1:27:40that pays for a lot more of that. I mean, like that,
- 1:27:44That's why certain academies are known for developing players. It's like, you know,
- 1:27:47um, the club for the club in Brazil that Arsenal got Gabriel Martinelli
- 1:27:51from for sixty million pounds, Like that money got them a new training facility
- 1:27:55is so much more, you know, facilities that charging twenty thirty kids to
- 1:28:00being an academy a few thousand dollars is not gonna do for you, you
- 1:28:03know what I mean. Like, so to me, it's a very short
- 1:28:05seting. Oh i'm a coach, I'm going to charge you your kids twenty
- 1:28:09five thirty three brand a season. Whatever. It's like, that's fine,
- 1:28:13You're only gonna get rich kids that can afford that we can say, hey,
- 1:28:15look, we'll find talented kids in the neighborhood in a certain cities or
- 1:28:18whatever bring them into the academy. It's gonna cost a lot of money.
- 1:28:21Someone's gonna have to foot the bill for that. But I think it's over
- 1:28:24a long enough time right enough, a long enough timeframe, you sell a
- 1:28:29couple of kids to bigger and bigger clubs, that's going to generate money for
- 1:28:32the program as a whole. So to me, I think that's really where
- 1:28:35we should be moving towards. If we want to compete on the world stage.
- 1:28:39It can't just be like, hey, it's only rich kids that are
- 1:28:42talent that's in our talent pool, because then it's just like you're not either
- 1:28:45rich kids in America or kids that like whose parents like moved to Europe or
- 1:28:48something got them in a Barcelona academy, but like a dormant academy like pool
- 1:28:51of sick and rainer. And it has to be like, hey, we
- 1:28:55do it. I want some kids from inner city Philadelphia to make the US
- 1:28:58national team, you know what I mean, and then end up at Arsenal,
- 1:29:00Like that's where we need to happen to start happening the next few years.
- 1:29:05Definitely, Yeah, I agree with that. And it's funny because like
- 1:29:09a soccer, football whatever is like it's a game that's so relatively it doesn't
- 1:29:15take a lot to play it, and yet it's so hard to get people
- 1:29:19to play it. Man, Like you don't need pads or nothing like that,
- 1:29:24like like you do football. But there's mad little pop Warner League teams.
- 1:29:28That's fine to get inter city kids on these on these teams somehow.
- 1:29:31So it's like when I when I see that, and then you got au
- 1:29:35teams in the basketball world, It's like, why can we not get this
- 1:29:41same attention for soccer? And I think it all boils down to you kids
- 1:29:46in America. People in America are not that have not been historically that interested
- 1:29:51in the game. The appeal is just the appeal isn't there. But I
- 1:29:56feel like once people like messy icons like Messi and Um who came over before,
- 1:30:00like Abrahimovich and Um backing them back in the day or whatever, like
- 1:30:06people come over, you get the spotlight on it. People get interested in
- 1:30:13uh into it, and then they really in order to see how much money
- 1:30:16is in it, like soccer money, football money, is read I mean
- 1:30:23ridiculous, you can say that. But also the internet makes everything like kids
- 1:30:28can see whatever they really they can see the whole world if they want.
- 1:30:30Yeah, they can see the whole world. But like like the the example
- 1:30:35that when was, Yeah they can see that, but they can't touch it.
- 1:30:40Yeah, I can say they don't have you can see kids and making
- 1:30:44side. There's probably kids out there that want to play side. We're wearing,
- 1:30:45what you're gonna do, what team you're gonna play, there's nothing,
- 1:30:48Okay, you gotta have something tangible as much you can see it all you
- 1:30:51want, but something's tangible. Someone has to build that infrastructure for them,
- 1:30:56right right. I think what's gonna have to happen is, you know,
- 1:30:59it's gonna have to be even if it isn't a player from outside of the
- 1:31:02country to come to the MLS, Like there has to be that guy,
- 1:31:05like who was that guy in the MLS right now before MESSI guy here,
- 1:31:09But it doesn't have to be MLS. Well, I mean just for America,
- 1:31:13like if you want to if if you're if we're talking about America,
- 1:31:15you gotta start here. No, but it could just be an American player
- 1:31:17playing that somewhere that too, But I think that's more because MLS is like,
- 1:31:23but those are places that the kids can go. It's not a huge
- 1:31:27league. Yeah, so it can be. I think it's more than just
- 1:31:31like a superstar player. I think everything is We're all saying it is correct,
- 1:31:35Like it definitely needs an invassement on the grassroots level. That's the first.
- 1:31:40You got to look at it from like player development, like I guess
- 1:31:43talent development, but also like the league level. Right, MLS is twenty
- 1:31:47something years old, like mus is a very youngly, Like I'm older than
- 1:31:51MLS, right, you know what I mean? Um So when we try
- 1:31:57to compare with like the Premier League that's been around for like one hundred I
- 1:32:00mean the Premier League in its current formats, like you know, just like
- 1:32:02thirty thirty one years old, but like you know, the English leave has
- 1:32:06been around for like a long long time, Like there's so much history,
- 1:32:10there's so much tradition there. They're like, we just don't have a major
- 1:32:13league soccer in America, right, So I think that needs to start,
- 1:32:16Like we didn't start creating what that American culture is and the next things we
- 1:32:21need to kind of develop talent. That's like, yo, because Pollistick is
- 1:32:26good, like he's from Hersheyp and I think that's a big reason why he's
- 1:32:29so popular in the national team. With the realities, it's like Dortmund is
- 1:32:32what made him as good as he is, you know what I mean?
- 1:32:35And it was his parents sacrifice and they go over to Germany to give him
- 1:32:39that education that's made him is so good. That story needs to happen.
- 1:32:43It's like, Yo, some kid from Jersey, some kid from like South
- 1:32:46Florida or whatever from Miami is something to like poor kids becomes like a superstar,
- 1:32:51like the Lebron James, Like we need that person. That's like he
- 1:32:54didn't have Lebron didn't have to leave America to become nice and basketball and then
- 1:32:58come back to American domin at the NBA. Like he's literally from Acrono.
- 1:33:00He's from right, literally homegrown, you know what I mean. I think
- 1:33:05when you start having more and more of those stories, I think that's when
- 1:33:09people become more and more invested in again, because let's be honest, like
- 1:33:12people like the under dog. People like to connect to people who come from
- 1:33:15nothing. Right, that's the typical, the quintessential American stories like yo,
- 1:33:18he came from nothing, but now it's like, yo, he came from
- 1:33:21nothing, but he had to go to Germany. He had to go to
- 1:33:24Europe to like honing skills and they come back to America. Like look at
- 1:33:27farm now Arsenal players, not jose to Cliff the national US national team.
- 1:33:32He's a nigga from South London, Like you have him talk like there's nothing
- 1:33:35American about him, but like he's choosing to put the US because he knows
- 1:33:39he'll never play in England over Harry King. Yeah, I mean, like
- 1:33:43how No, obviously I don't want to get into the politics, and I'm
- 1:33:48like, yo, we need to develop talent here in a way. That's
- 1:33:51like yo, Like that's the kid that like you know, like damn,
- 1:33:55like I went to high school with that kid or like I played. Yeah,
- 1:33:58I see what you're saying. He's gonna look at him and be like
- 1:34:00I connected that guy. He could say he's from America all you want,
- 1:34:03Like I ain't even lieve in that. Oh he's not gonna say that,
- 1:34:06but yeah, I'm just saying I'll enjoy him being on the team. That's
- 1:34:10all I'm saying. I think the fust Ran, I'm sorry said his talents.
- 1:34:15Obviously Undernid was a very like top level striker. But it's like how
- 1:34:20America, I just don't get to deposits like whatever. Woman saying like yo,
- 1:34:24like he's not I have cousin from from Peckham and like they're like yo,
- 1:34:28like they know of him, like they know, yeah he grew up,
- 1:34:30but like he didn't grow up in like North or whatever. They can
- 1:34:35right it's Peckham, Like I he grew up in the top boy town.
- 1:34:45I was gonna say, I mean to tie it all together, I think
- 1:34:48it's just frustrating, like the main thing because like there's so many athletes that
- 1:34:50we see from America that people just don't play soccer man like and like you
- 1:34:56said, it's the resources and everything like that. It's just yeah, I
- 1:34:59mean he's gonna say that there's an excess amount of athletes that are playing other
- 1:35:01sports. Ye are just like like like how people people really big people.
- 1:35:08The way people are looking at Odell Beckham, they were like, imagine if
- 1:35:10this dude played fucking soccer, Like if you just put that skill, but
- 1:35:14you know what, but maybe you'd be crazy on Yeah, do you have
- 1:35:20a do you have a player right now in a different sport right now in
- 1:35:23America? Like you feel like you know, if he played soccer his whole
- 1:35:27life, his whole his whole life, like if he just if he was
- 1:35:30like as a young as a ute he was in a soccer academy, he
- 1:35:34would be insane. Mm hmm. You know what's funny, No, because
- 1:35:43a lot of other sports in the America that are popular, you have to
- 1:35:45be like freakish. That's true. Good true that that's true. Like when
- 1:35:53you think of like Odell Beckham, I don't know how. I don't know.
- 1:35:55He's like stats, but I don't know. He's like six foot something
- 1:35:57probably turning something pounds, right like that frame in soccer, Like it's very
- 1:36:00like it's not the average frame, like the average build for a soccer frame.
- 1:36:05Like MESSI is the girl at Messi's five foot sever and to become five
- 1:36:09foot seven, he had to take hgh, he had to take like human
- 1:36:11growth formal and he's like, you didn't know that little boy he was as
- 1:36:17a kid, They said he would have been like less than five feet tall,
- 1:36:20little dwarf if he didn't get that Barcelona, is it I don't know
- 1:36:25if this is true everyone, you might have to correct me, but I
- 1:36:27think Barcelona had to like pay for that back in like when he was a
- 1:36:30kid. Yeah, yeah, that's why he was able to like go to
- 1:36:34That's really why he went to Barcelona, you know what I mean? So
- 1:36:38you know I remember those Um, this is years ago, but like,
- 1:36:41um, I think it was Emlis all Star was in Kansas City and Peter
- 1:36:45Vermis, who was the coach. I don't know if he still is,
- 1:36:46but he was coach at the time, like he should like always focus on
- 1:36:49like sort of athletics and athletics, right, And somebody put a picture of
- 1:36:53like the sporting case he players, you know, and they're all like super
- 1:36:57fit and super just like everyone's jack, right, and the guys put a
- 1:37:00picture of like Indiesta and de Maria next to it, like Innesta de Maria
- 1:37:04do not have any single muscles one whatsoever. That's true. But these guys
- 1:37:08are like elite footballers. So I think it's gonna be hard to compare like
- 1:37:11other American athletes that would be good in soccer, because like to be good
- 1:37:15in basketball, you have to get at least six for something to do.
- 1:37:16I mean to be really good in football, you have do pretty much right.
- 1:37:20So like it's it's hard to say, um truth please speaking like most
- 1:37:26kids will be really good in soccer in America knowing even consider them like affletes.
- 1:37:29My homes are really good at football all under like the six foot yeah
- 1:37:32say it's like the hitting gyms. Like they're out here just doing gardening,
- 1:37:39ork yard work other way. Yeah. Ye all right, man, before
- 1:37:46we get about get you about it here, um, before we get you
- 1:37:50about it, before we let you go sound crazy, before we get you
- 1:37:55a bout of here, because we got three people on the podcast that definitely
- 1:38:00appreciates soccer. The other ones they really don't so much. All right,
- 1:38:05Kyle, Damn, Keenan or whatever, basketball, basketball, basketball, any
- 1:38:11of Um, what is your what is your favorite football moment? Oh?
- 1:38:20My favorite football moments? Okay, I would say it was so I grew
- 1:38:29up in Nigeria and I remember what year it was, but there was like
- 1:38:33this charity like football match where um a Nigeria player by the name of I
- 1:38:40think it was like Celestian Baba Yaro he had played for like UM not him.
- 1:38:45It was a Tarry b West, Harry West with Chelsea Inter Milan and
- 1:38:46stuff like that. Um, he organized his like charity match in Nigeria National
- 1:38:50Stadium, which is like the big just think about imagine like the Lincoln Financial
- 1:38:55fillab but like in in in Lagos in Nigeria, and he got all these
- 1:39:00international superstars to come and play in this match. And my uncle like snuck
- 1:39:05me out of school. I was like, oh, like his dad wants
- 1:39:08something like that, just a kid picking up for school and like, my
- 1:39:11hope wouldn't have like that much money. I know, he probably saved up
- 1:39:14for like months building for two tickets and like took me on the bus like
- 1:39:17public transportation Niger, which is like absolutely terrible, right my dad thought out.
- 1:39:21My dad had been absolutely livid, Like it's basically took me out of
- 1:39:25school and like took me to the stadium and we had like nose bleed ass
- 1:39:28seats. But like it was like the best moment of my life. I
- 1:39:30just remember watching all these Nigeria and stars playing and like a couple in international
- 1:39:34guys playing. I was like, yo, this is like I was like
- 1:39:38maybe seven or eight if I remember correct, when it was just it was
- 1:39:40it was the I would never ever forget that that was my life peak at
- 1:39:46that point. It's all down. No, literally, because it was just
- 1:39:53like I knew that game was happening. I begged my dad for tickets.
- 1:39:56He was like, no, no, it's not gonna be safe. Yeah,
- 1:39:58my dad was kind of very strict. My uncle is just kind of
- 1:40:00fuck it, like we're gonna go. And then I just like super just
- 1:40:03Yeah, it was just that moment. I just remember sitting up there.
- 1:40:06The stadium was packed. It was almost like an All Star again, so
- 1:40:11like no one took it serious to Everyone was just like doing skills and tricks
- 1:40:14and it was just like amazing. So yeah, I would say that was
- 1:40:16definitely like mine. Yeah when did you When did your dad found out you
- 1:40:21went though? When when we got home then? And I wasn't you know
- 1:40:29my school was across the street from the house murder. Yeah, so we
- 1:40:36come back at like nine thirty, ten o'clock. Where have you been frantically
- 1:40:43looking for you? National Stadium was amazing. Yeah, that's a shot.
- 1:40:53That's a shot. Uh, you got one real quick? What a favorite
- 1:40:57football moment? Oh, the story of me going to Manchester and actually seeing
- 1:41:00a game in person. We don't have time for that whole story. Yeah,
- 1:41:04I almost didn't get in the stadium and it took wait what yeah,
- 1:41:11somebody almost long. I might have to link you to that story, thirty
- 1:41:15minute story in itself. So they worked for those they worked for. That,
- 1:41:20they worked for, that, they earned that. Yes, someone died
- 1:41:23on the road. We couldn't even get through this. It was a lot.
- 1:41:27Our friend broke his leg. So yeah, someone pretty much broke their
- 1:41:30ankle. We had to walk catch a taxi in a random town. Oh
- 1:41:36yeah, and you know Manchester, Yeah, in Manchester, like outside of
- 1:41:40Manchester, going into Manchester. And then we got to the stadium well after
- 1:41:45kickoff. It was like halftime already started, like sixty minutes into the match,
- 1:41:49and they almost didn't let us in, but we were able to just
- 1:41:54finesse and uh yeah I got to see Ronado finish his hat trick versus a
- 1:42:00Norwich That it s nice, good stuff, all right, that's good stuff,
- 1:42:06all right, all right, Well I want you said all you know,
