- 0:57Speaker 5: Hi, this is Catherine Mary Stewart, and you're listening to
- 1:00Speaker 5: Movie Meltdown.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Get more out of life. Go out to a.
- 1:19Speaker 6: Movie.
- 1:22Speaker 7: Hey, there's a dude dressed like a superhero out there
- 1:25Speaker 7: fighting a bunch of guys.
- 1:27Speaker 1: It's fucking awesome!
- 1:29Speaker 6: Who are you?
- 1:31Speaker 1: I'm Kick-Ass. Welcome to Movie Meltdown's Out on the Town.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I am, once again, Brian.
- 1:52Speaker 7: Roger?
- 1:54Speaker 8: I'm Roger.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm Misty.
- 1:56Speaker 8: I'm Jay.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And this is Rod.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Wow. Roger is... Actually, he's been asleep during that whole
- 2:05Speaker 5: first segment.
- 2:07Speaker 7: He was licking the alcohol off his shoes.
- 2:10Speaker 8: Showing the tasty beverages.
- 2:13Speaker 1: That does not seem like somebody who just came from kick-ass.
- 2:16Speaker 8: Now I'm jazzed. Let's talk about this more.
- 2:18Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:20Speaker 1: This week, as we said, is kick-ass. The year is 2010.
- 2:23Speaker 1: The director is Matthew Vaughn. And I guess our plot,
- 2:28Speaker 1: as they put it on the IMDb, Dave is an
- 2:31Speaker 1: unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one
- 2:33Speaker 1: day decides to become a superhero, even though he has
- 2:36Speaker 1: no powers, training, or meaningful reason to do so. That
- 2:40Speaker 1: all sounds pretty right to me. How come nobody dressed
- 2:42Speaker 1: up for this movie?
- 2:44Speaker 7: He wanted to. He's like, dude, we should all dress
- 2:45Speaker 7: up as superheroes.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I would have been up for that.
- 2:48Speaker 7: Do you want to sit by me?
- 2:49Speaker 9: Because if you do, you're going to forfeit this.
- 2:55Speaker 8: Who would you have dressed up as?
- 2:56Speaker 7: I'll make my own shit.
- 2:58Speaker 1: We'd have to be like they did and.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Make up our own.
- 3:02Speaker 7: I make my own shit, man. I got part of
- 3:05Speaker 7: a Fred Flintstone costume.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 3:08Speaker 10: I got a motorcycle jersey I got in the mail
- 3:10Speaker 10: the other day.
- 3:11Speaker 1: We had an Ultraman mask at home. What are you
- 3:14Speaker 1: calling this character? I don't know. Fred Biker?
- 3:17Speaker 5: Biker, yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Biker Flintstone. Motor Flint.
- 3:21Speaker 4: There you go.
- 3:22Speaker 1: How do you like that shirt?
- 3:22Speaker 8: Motor Flint.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 3:23Speaker 5: We should have all wore Mexican wrestling masks or something.
- 3:26Speaker 5: That would have been fun.
- 3:27Speaker 7: I'm going to pass.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I do have mine, but I quit wearing them.
- 3:30Speaker 7: I got my ET mask.
- 3:32Speaker 11: There you go.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I kick ass.
- 3:34Speaker 5: So, kick ass.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Kick ass.
- 3:36Speaker 9: Oh, that's what the best part of the movie that
- 3:38Speaker 9: I will acknowledge was the girl because she was awesome.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Hit girl.
- 3:41Speaker 7: Hit girl was fantastic.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Can you imagine in Halloween the next couple of years
- 3:46Speaker 5: how many girls are going to be hit girl?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Not even necessarily girls.
- 3:49Speaker 7: There's going to be dudes dressed up.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Oh, absolutely. I will give you that.
- 3:52Speaker 7: The pigtails.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 3:53Speaker 8: She was the best thing about the comic, too.
- 3:55Speaker 5: I love this movie.
- 3:56Speaker 4: As far as.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Characters this was my second time seeing it i still
- 3:59Speaker 5: think it's like the most fun movie i've seen this year.
- 4:02Speaker 10: It's awesome yeah it's funny that uh was it ebert
- 4:04Speaker 10: gave it one star.
- 4:05Speaker 12: What did he really yeah he hated it uh well
- 4:08Speaker 12: he's insane yeah he's not insane i respect roger i
- 4:11Speaker 12: didn't know he gave it one star i hadn't heard
- 4:13Speaker 12: that um i think there is going to be a
- 4:15Speaker 12: pretty serious split between people between liberals and conservatives.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Yeah yeah because There's a guy that I saw this
- 4:21Speaker 5: with at Buttnomathon. He's a good guy, but he's very conservative.
- 4:25Speaker 5: We were all coming out and we loved it. He's like, man,
- 4:27Speaker 5: I don't know. This movie crossed the line.
- 4:29Speaker 7: There's a lot of parents that were going to boycott it.
- 4:32Speaker 7: It's just offensive.
- 4:34Speaker 9: The only complaint that I heard most parents complaining about
- 4:37Speaker 9: was she said cunt.
- 4:38Speaker 7: That's the biggest thing. Nobody cares about the violence.
- 4:41Speaker 5: That's very American. They could have raped her in the
- 4:44Speaker 5: ass and people would still only complain about her cussing.
- 4:47Speaker 7: It wasn't even the cussing, just the fact that she
- 4:49Speaker 7: said cunt.
- 4:50Speaker 1: She said cunt. Well, it's funny.
- 4:51Speaker 4: She said fuck.
- 4:51Speaker 7: That didn't bother anybody.
- 4:52Speaker 1: They don't care about fuck.
- 4:53Speaker 8: Nobody cares about that.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You get in trouble when you say cunt. That's just
- 4:56Speaker 1: trouble every time. But what's funny is, like, I just
- 4:59Speaker 1: found out today, that's what sold Matt Vaughn. Like, they
- 5:03Speaker 1: presented them as this project, and he got to issue
- 5:05Speaker 1: three when she says cunt, and he was like, all right,
- 5:08Speaker 1: this has potential. I want to see what this movie becomes.
- 5:12Speaker 1: So it's funny that that's also the turning point for
- 5:14Speaker 1: most people.
- 5:15Speaker 6: It's like, oh, that's it.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Never mind. I don't want anything to do with it.
- 5:18Speaker 5: There's a breed of people, but I doubt that they're
- 5:20Speaker 5: the people that listen to our show that really won't
- 5:23Speaker 5: enjoy this movie.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I think the people.
- 5:25Speaker 5: In this show will... This is an awesome.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say, I'm going to throw
- 5:29Speaker 1: out a big spoiler alert, but I'm assuming everybody who
- 5:32Speaker 1: listens to our show has probably already seen it, so...
- 5:35Speaker 1: you know we'll throw it out there but i'm sure
- 5:36Speaker 1: you've all seen it won't like.
- 5:38Speaker 10: This movie or people that enjoy dancing with the stars
- 5:40Speaker 10: that's about it.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah your mom will not like this no your mom
- 5:44Speaker 1: will not like this.
- 5:44Speaker 5: You know what this movie reminds me of is when
- 5:48Speaker 5: i saw galaxy quest and i knew it was like
- 5:50Speaker 5: a spoof of star trek movies but then if it
- 5:52Speaker 5: wasn't almost it was better than the other star trek
- 5:55Speaker 5: movies that were out at the time and this is
- 5:57Speaker 5: like This is kind of a spoof of comic book movies,
- 6:00Speaker 5: but it actually is a pretty straight up comic book
- 6:03Speaker 5: movie at the same time. And it's almost one of
- 6:05Speaker 5: the best.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It's got great action in it. Lots of blood.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Very violent.
- 6:10Speaker 9: One of the things that impressed me most was that
- 6:12Speaker 9: I did not hate.
- 6:13Speaker 7: Nicolas Cage in this movie.
- 6:14Speaker 5: No, the characters are all very likable. And that's another thing.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Nicolas Cage is awesome.
- 6:18Speaker 7: Because usually I hate him. I cannot stand him. He
- 6:22Speaker 7: makes me angry.
- 6:23Speaker 5: He hasn't done anything really worthy in a long time.
- 6:25Speaker 5: And then this year he did this in Bad Lieutenant,
- 6:27Speaker 5: which I haven't seen yet.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I've heard pretty good things.
- 6:29Speaker 5: But he's awesome in this movie. He was cracking me up.
- 6:33Speaker 5: And when he finally put on the Bad Daddy costume
- 6:36Speaker 5: and suddenly was doing that Adam West thing, I was like, stop.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Every couple words. And it was just so funny, I
- 6:43Speaker 5: couldn't stop laughing. I mean, it was crazy.
- 6:45Speaker 1: That's such a character performance. I could have almost seen
- 6:48Speaker 1: him doing that. Because I heard early that was his
- 6:50Speaker 1: direction he was taking, his character. I'm like, okay, he's
- 6:53Speaker 1: such a weird, quirky guy. Anyway, I can see him
- 6:56Speaker 1: pulling that part of it off. The part that impressed
- 6:58Speaker 1: me was when he was his normal self. He was
- 7:00Speaker 1: still a likable guy. He's ridiculous and kind of crazy,
- 7:04Speaker 1: but at the same time.
- 7:05Speaker 7: That laugh is awesome.
- 7:06Speaker 1: He's still a real guy. He's not ridiculous and terrible
- 7:10Speaker 1: like he is in a lot of his other movies.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I don't know what the switch is that's thrown in
- 7:15Speaker 1: his head that makes him a good actor.
- 7:17Speaker 5: He had several layers in this performance. One was the
- 7:20Speaker 5: crazy dad character. who loves his daughter but just wants
- 7:23Speaker 5: her to be the ultimate killing machine because he's had
- 7:25Speaker 5: this terrible past. Then there's the other character. When he
- 7:29Speaker 5: confronts his old partner, he almost seems a lot more normal.
- 7:32Speaker 5: He's not talking to his daughter anymore. He's talking to
- 7:35Speaker 5: another adult, and he's almost a different person. And then
- 7:37Speaker 5: when he puts on the big daddy costume, outfit there's
- 7:39Speaker 5: another character that comes out.
- 7:41Speaker 1: You know he's that's that's what's so weird about him
- 7:44Speaker 1: is there's still that core of a good actor in
- 7:46Speaker 1: there and what is it like why is it he
- 7:49Speaker 1: can't tap into that for every movie.
- 7:50Speaker 7: Maybe it's just because there were no bees in this
- 7:52Speaker 7: one that's why it was okay.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah but even in other stuff that's not a terrible
- 7:55Speaker 1: movie like he's what was that other one that just
- 7:58Speaker 1: came out it's.
- 7:58Speaker 5: The material a lot of the stuff he's making doesn't
- 8:01Speaker 5: require him to do very.
- 8:02Speaker 7: Much Or maybe he's just not as excited about it.
- 8:05Speaker 10: And this may be one that he wholeheartedly was just
- 8:08Speaker 10: really on board for.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 8:10Speaker 10: You have a tendency to put out a little bit more,
- 8:11Speaker 10: put a little bit more effort into something that you
- 8:13Speaker 10: really enjoy as opposed to something that you just don't
- 8:17Speaker 10: really give a crap about, you know.
- 8:20Speaker 5: I thought he was good in it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I thought all the performances were good in it.
- 8:23Speaker 5: I think people are going to love Hit Girl so
- 8:25Speaker 5: much that it's almost going to overshadow Kick-Ass.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Completely.
- 8:30Speaker 5: That kid's great, too.
- 8:31Speaker 4: He was.
- 8:31Speaker 5: He's such a likable everyman character. Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 4: He's definitely.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, he was really good. It is one of those, like,
- 8:40Speaker 1: the story is his, so it's like you are going
- 8:42Speaker 1: to have to take, like, what the movie's trying to
- 8:44Speaker 1: say from him. But performance-wise, I mean, Hit-Girl deserves to
- 8:48Speaker 1: overshadow him. I mean, every scene that she's in is
- 8:51Speaker 1: fucking amazing. Like, not even just the action stuff. She's just,
- 8:55Speaker 1: that kid is an amazing actress. And, yeah, I mean,
- 8:59Speaker 1: she owns that screen when she is on it. So,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I mean, there's... And she's just so cute.
- 9:04Speaker 4: That, too.
- 9:05Speaker 7: Little pigtails.
- 9:07Speaker 1: That's why it works so well.
- 9:08Speaker 4: So.
- 9:09Speaker 13: Have you thought a little more about what you might
- 9:10Speaker 13: want for your birthday?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Can I get a puppy?
- 9:13Speaker 4: You want to get a dog?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, a cuddly, fluffy one.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And a Bratz movie star makeover Sasha.
- 9:21Speaker 5: I'm just fucking with you, Daddy.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I love a Benchmade Model 42 butterfly knife.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Oh, child. You always knock me for a loop.
- 9:29Speaker 5: The structure of a lot of it, I think, is
- 9:31Speaker 5: a lot of it's taken from Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie,
- 9:35Speaker 5: at least the kick-ass story. I mean, that character, Dave,
- 9:38Speaker 5: lives in a house that looks like Peter Parker's house. Yeah.
- 9:42Speaker 5: He goes to the high school. It kind of looks
- 9:44Speaker 5: like that.
- 9:44Speaker 8: Uncle Ben's kind of there.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Yeah, kind of. His mom dies real early on, which
- 9:49Speaker 5: Peter Parker's parents were dead. You know, it's like if
- 9:55Speaker 5: Spider-Man were real. um, And Dave's story is pretty realistic.
- 10:00Speaker 5: It's when you get into some of the stuff that
- 10:02Speaker 5: Hit Girl does that the movie does, you know, edge
- 10:04Speaker 5: into comic book territory. And then at the end, too,
- 10:07Speaker 5: I'm not going to say that.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But again, I mean, it's still essentially a comic book movie.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I mean, it's literally a comic book movie. So, I mean,
- 10:15Speaker 1: it needs to have that element. It needs to tap
- 10:17Speaker 1: into that. And that's the thing. So many comic book
- 10:20Speaker 1: movies over the last 10, 15 years have really just
- 10:23Speaker 1: dropped the ball when it came to that. It's like
- 10:24Speaker 1: they could do the setup of the story and make
- 10:26Speaker 1: it perfect to what was on the page, but when
- 10:28Speaker 1: it came time to do action or deliver the goods
- 10:31Speaker 1: at the end of the movie, they screw it up.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And this one, every time it comes through.
- 10:35Speaker 5: You really start to like Dave. And when he goes
- 10:38Speaker 5: out the first time... I think, you know, he's confronted
- 10:42Speaker 5: these bullies before that have taken his money and everything.
- 10:45Speaker 5: And when he goes out as kick-ass, you're kind of jazzed.
- 10:48Speaker 5: You're like, oh, he's going to get some payback.
- 10:49Speaker 1: You're jazzed and you're just as nervous as he is.
- 10:51Speaker 5: And then we find out what it's like to be
- 10:52Speaker 5: a real superhero. A guy pulls a knife out and
- 10:55Speaker 5: stabs him. He's like, oh, my God. And then he
- 10:57Speaker 5: rolls into the street and he's hit by a car.
- 10:59Speaker 8: And the guy just leaves.
- 11:02Speaker 5: But it all works out because he gets all these
- 11:04Speaker 5: metal implants where his bones are and makes him like
- 11:06Speaker 5: Wolverine or something. And it also kills his nervousness, so
- 11:09Speaker 5: he can't really feel pain that much anymore. So he
- 11:12Speaker 5: does kind of become a superhero.
- 11:14Speaker 1: He's a minor superhero.
- 11:15Speaker 5: In a weird kind of way.
- 11:16Speaker 1: He's got his own special superpower.
- 11:18Speaker 10: But I'm wondering how much this movie will be blamed
- 11:21Speaker 10: for comic book kids picking up costumes and running out
- 11:25Speaker 10: in the street and trying to become superheroes.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Jumping off buildings.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't think any of them will go that far.
- 11:29Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Some of them are pretty damn dumb.
- 11:31Speaker 5: I don't know. How can this be blamed any more
- 11:33Speaker 5: than any other superhero movie?
- 11:35Speaker 1: It happens. I mean, I did it after I saw Batman.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Come on. Didn't you guys put on a cape and
- 11:39Speaker 1: run out into your street in the night?
- 11:40Speaker 5: Maybe I was just me. It is going to be
- 11:44Speaker 5: number one this weekend, but it's fallen below expectations. Which
- 11:47Speaker 5: doesn't surprise me. These kind of geek movies never really
- 11:51Speaker 5: go over with a modern audience. I've seen the trailer
- 11:54Speaker 5: with people and they were like, those look shit, man.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Those costumes look terrible.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm like, you just don't get it.
- 12:00Speaker 5: You don't understand. You don't understand the concept. Or other
- 12:04Speaker 5: people say, that looks like Watchmen. You know, and I
- 12:07Speaker 5: knew that wasn't going to do well either and stuff.
- 12:10Speaker 1: For that same reason, you know. It's another one that, like,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you know, it's comic book oriented, but it's not at
- 12:16Speaker 1: all going to have crossover appeal. It's nothing but geeks,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and that's it.
- 12:21Speaker 5: It's just too.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's just too tapped into that world.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And it's like geeks kind of understand what they're going for, that...
- 12:27Speaker 1: That it's sort of a no-holds-barred kind of thing, and
- 12:29Speaker 1: they're not going to pull back like most cheesy Hollywood
- 12:32Speaker 1: movies do.
- 12:32Speaker 5: You know, Grindhouse.
- 12:33Speaker 10: Their minds have all gone to that place. Yeah, they
- 12:36Speaker 10: expect Spider-Man, you know. Every comic book geek's mind has
- 12:39Speaker 10: gone through this movie.
- 12:41Speaker 5: The same thing happened to Grindhouse. I mean, people were
- 12:43Speaker 5: watching it and going, man, that looks terrible. You're like, well,
- 12:46Speaker 5: you just don't get it.
- 12:47Speaker 1: That film looks awful.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not paying $ 10 for that. I'll rent it
- 12:51Speaker 5: or something. I'll pay to see Transformers, man. They spent
- 12:55Speaker 5: some money on that.
- 12:55Speaker 1: That's got HD.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 1: That's high quality.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Got good graphics.
- 12:59Speaker 8: She was buying.
- 13:00Speaker 1: She was buying. I think I was standing next to
- 13:03Speaker 1: him at the fireworks.
- 13:05Speaker 5: What I'm hearing from journalists is a lot of people
- 13:08Speaker 5: are comparing this phenomenon to snakes on a plane because
- 13:10Speaker 5: snakes on a plane had a lot of internet buzz.
- 13:13Speaker 5: But the truth is, Snakes on a Plane never looked good.
- 13:15Speaker 5: It looked like your Sci-Fi Channel movies, and we were
- 13:18Speaker 5: laughing because they got Samuel L. Jackson in on this.
- 13:21Speaker 7: But I love me some Snakes on a Plane.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I mean, it was a joke at its very core.
- 13:25Speaker 5: I know.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It's a joke, and they knew it was a joke.
- 13:27Speaker 1: This was never a joke. This was a legitimate property,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and it had something to work with.
- 13:32Speaker 10: Even if you take the schtick away from it, it's
- 13:34Speaker 10: still a good movie, you know?
- 13:37Speaker 5: Snakes on a plane? It's a ridiculous idea.
- 13:40Speaker 7: I love it. It's a good time.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Oh, I thought it was awesome.
- 13:42Speaker 7: I'm just saying, it's still goofy.
- 13:44Speaker 5: People didn't want to go to the theater and spend
- 13:46Speaker 5: their money.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I was there opening night.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Me too.
- 13:49Speaker 1: It was awesome.
- 13:50Speaker 9: It was awesome because you were there and everybody, opening night,
- 13:53Speaker 9: first show, and everybody was quoting along with the movie
- 13:55Speaker 9: while you were watching.
- 13:56Speaker 7: And I'm like, that's how you know.
- 13:58Speaker 1: It was a party in the theater.
- 14:00Speaker 5: You know, I don't hate Snakes on a Plane, but
- 14:01Speaker 5: it really, as far as living up to all the
- 14:04Speaker 5: fun hype it had, it didn't really... And Kick-Ass does.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Kick-Ass does more than does. It delivers beyond that, because
- 14:12Speaker 1: I didn't know what to expect going in, and it
- 14:14Speaker 1: more than delivered on those.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Loved it.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Loved the cast. I loved everything about it. I thought
- 14:20Speaker 5: the directing was good. Now, I saw it on a BNAT,
- 14:22Speaker 5: and some of the music has been changed, but basically...
- 14:26Speaker 5: It still works.
- 14:28Speaker 7: I loved the use of American Trilogy. That's my only complaint.
- 14:35Speaker 10: Was that our movie theater dropped the ball.
- 14:38Speaker 8: On this movie.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Yes, they did.
- 14:39Speaker 5: They cut the sound out during the climax.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, one of them.
- 14:43Speaker 8: It was pretty pivotal.
- 14:44Speaker 7: But then it came back, and they were playing Elvis'
- 14:46Speaker 7: American Trilogy, and I was like, hell yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Which is awesome.
- 14:48Speaker 10: But still, we missed probably a good, what, two seconds
- 14:52Speaker 10: of the movie and probably about ten seconds of audio.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I was afraid they were going to have to take
- 14:55Speaker 5: out the Joe Jets song, Bad Reputation, but that stayed in.
- 14:59Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 15:00Speaker 5: I'm glad about that. There were some other songs that
- 15:02Speaker 5: stayed in that I thought were good. Most of the
- 15:04Speaker 5: music that changed was the score because they had taken
- 15:07Speaker 5: pieces of scores from other comic book movies and used them.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Like the guy up on the building at the beginning,
- 15:13Speaker 5: they were playing the music from Superman Returns. And then
- 15:16Speaker 5: when the Red Mist was driving his car around, they
- 15:18Speaker 5: were playing the Dark Knight music.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Actually, that was my favorite use of another song was Crazy.
- 15:24Speaker 1: That scene is fucking hilarious.
- 15:26Speaker 5: That is funny.
- 15:27Speaker 7: I was just excited because... Kick-ass dance is pretty much
- 15:30Speaker 7: the same way I do.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Yeah, see?
- 15:32Speaker 1: That's what everybody was doing this weekend. That's what I'm
- 15:34Speaker 1: calling people out for.
- 15:35Speaker 7: You've seen me in the car.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Yay, yay.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Kick-ass does do a pretty good dance there.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:41Speaker 5: That's me. I'm going.
- 15:41Speaker 12: Seizure.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Shush.
- 15:43Speaker 7: There were no thumbs involved, so at least.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I got that going.
- 15:46Speaker 5: But there are lots of slacks at the comic stuff. Like,
- 15:49Speaker 5: with no power comes no responsibility. The Red Mist uses
- 15:53Speaker 5: that line, wait till they get a load of me.
- 15:56Speaker 5: His story is the making of a supervillain.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Which, again, I was surprised. I didn't know he was
- 16:03Speaker 1: going in as the plant. He's the mole, as it were.
- 16:06Speaker 7: I think he was my least favorite part of the movie.
- 16:07Speaker 1: That was the thing. Everybody had talked him up so
- 16:09Speaker 1: much that I was expecting a lot more of a
- 16:11Speaker 1: likable performance out of him. And I didn't realize he's, A,
- 16:14Speaker 1: not that character.
- 16:15Speaker 5: He's not likable.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And even then, he's, I don't know, he's just not,
- 16:18Speaker 1: he just, even as a villain, he doesn't come off saving.
- 16:22Speaker 7: You can't be a villain with a speech impediment. It's
- 16:23Speaker 7: just not believable.
- 16:24Speaker 5: A little bit of the problem is he's just Christopher
- 16:26Speaker 5: Mintz Plaza.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:27Speaker 5: It's kind of the same performance he's given in two
- 16:30Speaker 5: or three other movies recently. And that's what they hired
- 16:33Speaker 5: him to do.
- 16:33Speaker 7: I'm just not a big fan of him.
- 16:35Speaker 9: Because he was in Superbad, and we tried to watch that,
- 16:38Speaker 9: and I couldn't do it.
- 16:38Speaker 10: Well, I mean, just like a superhero, he's going to
- 16:40Speaker 10: be a bumbling supervillain.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So, I mean, what better way to even it out,
- 16:43Speaker 1: you know?
- 16:44Speaker 7: Still, he had no charisma. I didn't care.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I didn't like him. See, that was the thing. I
- 16:49Speaker 1: wasn't even calling him out as the actor. I think
- 16:51Speaker 1: even just the role itself didn't lend itself to being,
- 16:54Speaker 1: you know.
- 16:54Speaker 5: He's not the main villain. really good job because the
- 16:57Speaker 5: villain in comic books is always ends up being at
- 17:00Speaker 5: least partially the best friend.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Of the hero i mean they didn't.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Set it up he does become friends with kick-ass yeah
- 17:06Speaker 5: at one point even though he doesn't plan on doing
- 17:09Speaker 5: yeah so.
- 17:10Speaker 1: And they set it up i mean it really is
- 17:11Speaker 1: that setup to then be able to tie it in
- 17:14Speaker 1: and have him be the super villain somewhere down the
- 17:16Speaker 1: line but but the real.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Villain in the movie is played by mark strong and
- 17:20Speaker 5: He's a good villain, man.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he's an evil bastard.
- 17:24Speaker 5: He's the new Alan Rickman for this generation. He was
- 17:27Speaker 5: the villain in Sherlock Holmes. He's the villain in this.
- 17:29Speaker 5: He's been cast recently as the villain in Green Lantern,
- 17:32Speaker 5: I think. He's kind of going to be the villain
- 17:35Speaker 5: for everybody, I think, right now.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Probably.
- 17:37Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I think this just does a good job. And it's
- 17:40Speaker 1: kind of what we were saying before of, of presenting
- 17:43Speaker 1: what it is to be a superhero. And it, and
- 17:45Speaker 1: it does take this realistic thing. I mean, it takes
- 17:47Speaker 1: the structure of like, you know, Spider-Man, but then it's like, okay,
- 17:50Speaker 1: what if you don't have powers? Like it really has
- 17:53Speaker 1: that setup. It's like, that's kind of the saving grace
- 17:55Speaker 1: of all these other amazing superheroes is they have this
- 17:58Speaker 1: power that whatever it is, it kind of saves their ass.
- 18:02Speaker 1: And he doesn't have that. Like he can't walk the
- 18:04Speaker 1: streets and, And without people potentially just beating the hell
- 18:08Speaker 1: out of him because he has nothing to say to him.
- 18:10Speaker 1: It's different when you throw yourself into this situation and
- 18:13Speaker 1: you're helping somebody, but it's him walking the streets and
- 18:15Speaker 1: people are high-fiving him, but at the same time, your
- 18:18Speaker 1: villain could get out and kick his ass at any
- 18:20Speaker 1: given moment and he has no problem. powers just he
- 18:23Speaker 1: has no spidey sense no he has.
- 18:24Speaker 5: No you know you know big daddy and hit girl
- 18:27Speaker 5: have taken up the same mantle of responsibility but they
- 18:30Speaker 5: know that they don't have power so they're gonna carry
- 18:32Speaker 5: as much weapons as possible well they're hard-blooded killers they're
- 18:35Speaker 5: like the punisher.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And they but they also don't put themselves out among
- 18:39Speaker 1: the people they are completely hidden from society you know
- 18:43Speaker 1: they're basically assassins you know.
- 18:45Speaker 5: This is naive enough to kind of walk down the
- 18:47Speaker 5: street and ask everybody if they need.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Help Which is actually endearing. Mr.
- 18:52Speaker 7: Bitey was my favorite.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Mr. Bitey.
- 18:56Speaker 1: It's why you like that character so much is because
- 18:58Speaker 1: he's so naive and he's so wholehearted going into this.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I'm going to save a cat.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Eventually he ends up looking for a cat, Mr.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Bitey. Mr. Bitey.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Here, Mr. Bitey.
- 19:09Speaker 8: Damn it, Mr.
- 19:10Speaker 6: Bitey.
- 19:13Speaker 7: Fuck you, Mr.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Bitey.
- 19:15Speaker 5: That was funny.
- 19:16Speaker 1: That is awesome. Whoever owned Mr. Bitey at home, probably.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But I don't know. It took like an interesting look
- 19:27Speaker 1: because we have so many superhero movies now and they
- 19:29Speaker 1: always have this power that just saves their ass. And
- 19:31Speaker 1: they're just like whatever they you know, they can kind
- 19:34Speaker 1: of live this normal life. But he doesn't have that.
- 19:36Speaker 1: It's like he's walking the streets in any given moment
- 19:39Speaker 1: that somebody can just annihilate him because he doesn't have anything.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But again, that's kind of why you end up liking
- 19:44Speaker 1: the character. It's almost that nobility that, you know, the
- 19:46Speaker 1: fact that he's he's saddled himself with his responsibility to
- 19:49Speaker 1: go protect people even though he has nothing to offer.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Them they even sets up an email account for people
- 19:55Speaker 5: to email them with their problem.
- 19:56Speaker 1: And i don't know it's one of those you that's
- 19:59Speaker 1: i think what sells this character so much is is
- 20:01Speaker 1: number one he's a nice guy in his real world
- 20:03Speaker 1: but the fact that he just assumes this responsibility to
- 20:07Speaker 1: take on, you know, anybody at this point, whatever wrongdoing
- 20:10Speaker 1: is going on. What the fuck is wrong with you, man?
- 20:12Speaker 7: You'd rather die for some piece of shit that you
- 20:15Speaker 7: don't even fucking know?
- 20:17Speaker 1: Three assholes laying into one guy while everybody else watches?
- 20:22Speaker 1: You want it all strong with me?
- 20:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I'd rather die. To bring it on!
- 20:28Speaker 1: He does it, like, it hits that point where, like,
- 20:31Speaker 1: when he's protecting that guy in the parking lot, and
- 20:34Speaker 1: he delivers that line, that's a hard line. Like, I
- 20:38Speaker 1: was going, that could be really cheesy at this moment,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and it's not. Like, it was actually pretty heavy. Like,
- 20:44Speaker 1: there was that moment of, you know, I'll give my
- 20:46Speaker 1: life for this guy. I don't know who he is,
- 20:47Speaker 1: but against three idiots in a parking lot, you know,
- 20:51Speaker 1: that's pretty noble, and it's like you have to give
- 20:53Speaker 1: him credit for it.
- 20:53Speaker 5: That's why this movie is great. Not because it's a comedy,
- 20:56Speaker 5: because it works as a drama at the same time.
- 20:58Speaker 5: You actually invest in the characters and you care about
- 21:00Speaker 5: whether he gets killed or beat up or not. And
- 21:02Speaker 5: there's some pretty severe violence that happens later on in
- 21:04Speaker 5: the movie. And it's fairly disturbing and upsetting.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Well, even right off the bat, like, you know, going
- 21:10Speaker 1: into any superhero movie, you don't expect them to get stabbed. Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I didn't expect that. And almost died.
- 21:16Speaker 5: In that car.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Yeah, as that happened, I was like, holy shit, this
- 21:19Speaker 1: movie has taken a turn that most superhero movies will
- 21:22Speaker 1: not do.
- 21:23Speaker 4: I know.
- 21:23Speaker 7: So they're going, he doesn't have any body armor.
- 21:25Speaker 4: No. No.
- 21:26Speaker 5: He's covered in blood throughout this movie. He's covered in
- 21:29Speaker 5: blood throughout this film.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 5: You know, being a superhero is not easy.
- 21:33Speaker 1: And again, that, and that's kind of what you take
- 21:35Speaker 1: from it. It's like, that's the hero aspect is he's
- 21:37Speaker 1: getting beat to hell, but he comes back every time
- 21:40Speaker 1: and he still does the right thing every time. It's like,
- 21:43Speaker 1: he sets out to help people regardless of the fact
- 21:45Speaker 1: that he has no powers and he's probably going to
- 21:47Speaker 1: get his ass kicked.
- 21:48Speaker 5: I like how he like sort of accidentally ends up
- 21:50Speaker 5: with an alter ego too, because like, The girl that
- 21:53Speaker 5: he likes at school ends up thinking he's gay.
- 21:55Speaker 1: That's funny.
- 21:56Speaker 5: And he just plays along. And then suddenly it's like
- 21:58Speaker 5: that's his Peter Parker.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he's living this dual life of a fake gay guy.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Which is kind of really funny. It's just bizarre.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Again, that's another subtle comic book touch there. It does
- 22:13Speaker 1: give him this dual life, even though he doesn't even
- 22:15Speaker 1: need one, really. He's walking the streets as kick-ass. But
- 22:19Speaker 1: it works in one in his real life, which is
- 22:21Speaker 1: kind of funny.
- 22:22Speaker 8: How do I get a hold of you?
- 22:24Speaker 2: You just contact the mayor's office.
- 22:25Speaker 1: He has a special signal that shines in the sky.
- 22:28Speaker 2: It's in the shape of a giant car.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Still, in the end, Hit Girl. It's what makes the movie.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I think the reason that I haven't been talking out
- 22:37Speaker 5: the ass about Hit Girl is because that's what everybody's going.
- 22:40Speaker 4: To be talking about.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Oh, I know. But it's one of those... She's pretty amazing.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I can't not. It's like... And it was just those scenes.
- 22:46Speaker 1: It was like the way... Her performance and piece together
- 22:49Speaker 1: with some of the best... action scenes ever. The people
- 22:52Speaker 1: that I've talked.
- 22:52Speaker 5: To that this movie bothered me, it didn't really bother
- 22:55Speaker 5: them until Mark Strong started beating her up.
- 22:58Speaker 1: That was hard. That's hard to watch.
- 23:01Speaker 5: She's killed 50 or 60 people before.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 10: Well, it's just the whole idea of one grown man
- 23:07Speaker 10: against a little girl.
- 23:10Speaker 1: But that's why there was this exhilaration as I'm sitting
- 23:15Speaker 1: in the theater, though, because basically it is like a
- 23:18Speaker 1: dream project come true, because for years... I have loved
- 23:21Speaker 1: The Professional. And it's finally like, what if Matilda actually
- 23:25Speaker 1: got good and got to kick people's ass? That's what
- 23:28Speaker 1: this is. This is basically Matilda annihilating dudes for half
- 23:32Speaker 1: of this movie.
- 23:34Speaker 5: The bad guys are just beating the crap out of...
- 23:37Speaker 5: kick ass and big daddy and they're going to kill
- 23:39Speaker 5: him here real soon. When she comes to the rescue,
- 23:42Speaker 5: that's just pretty exhilarating.
- 23:43Speaker 1: That scene is amazing. And that's what it was. All
- 23:46Speaker 1: of a sudden I got this, you know, that, that,
- 23:48Speaker 1: you know, feeling from, you know, watching professional years ago
- 23:51Speaker 1: and liking this character so much, but she's, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: she's so naive. She doesn't even know, what to do
- 23:56Speaker 1: in this situation. She's still got that in her that
- 23:58Speaker 1: she wants to destroy people that are just evil, but
- 24:03Speaker 1: no training to do it. This is a good life
- 24:06Speaker 1: of training.
- 24:06Speaker 5: There's a good example of Nicolas Cage just being awesome
- 24:09Speaker 5: in this movie. In the scene where she's come to
- 24:11Speaker 5: rescue him and he's been half burnt alive and all
- 24:14Speaker 5: this kind of stuff. He can make me laugh and
- 24:17Speaker 5: actually pull my heart strings at the same time where
- 24:19Speaker 5: she comes up and she says, getting shot hurt a
- 24:22Speaker 5: lot worse than when you shot me. And he's like, well,
- 24:25Speaker 5: that's cause I use lower velocity bullets, honey bunny. It's funny,
- 24:31Speaker 5: but it's like sad at the same time. Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 8: It's a good scene.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it works.
- 24:36Speaker 5: It's, I don't know.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I think, I don't know. He's so good at playing
- 24:39Speaker 1: that version of her.
- 24:40Speaker 5: If you're not shocked, the first time he shoots her.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 24:43Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 1: It's another. It's an amazing thing.
- 24:46Speaker 5: And then she asks if he gets to shoot her
- 24:47Speaker 5: twice more or if she can go get a hot
- 24:49Speaker 5: fudge someday.
- 24:49Speaker 8: Yeah, go bowling. Stop by the bowling alley.
- 24:54Speaker 1: They just have a great dynamic in the movie. It's
- 24:56Speaker 1: like between the two of them and their home life together.
- 24:59Speaker 1: It's like everything that comes into play with her character,
- 25:02Speaker 1: but even with him. It's an amazing thing. to see
- 25:05Speaker 1: him at work being this good again.
- 25:08Speaker 14: I liked it because having read the comic book, I
- 25:12Speaker 14: think that this is one of those comic book movies
- 25:14Speaker 14: that it's.
- 25:15Speaker 8: Actually a little bit better.
- 25:16Speaker 14: You get that dynamic in the comic book, but for
- 25:19Speaker 14: some reason it just seemed a little bit better.
- 25:21Speaker 8: It was more poignant or something.
- 25:23Speaker 14: It was more heartfelt almost in the movie than what
- 25:25Speaker 14: I got out of the comic book.
- 25:27Speaker 5: I don't know how you feel about it. That's how
- 25:28Speaker 5: I felt about Sin City. I actually liked the movie
- 25:32Speaker 5: better than I liked the graphic novel. And I had
- 25:33Speaker 5: read the graphic novel. There was something about bringing, it's
- 25:36Speaker 5: almost an exact translation, but there was something about bringing
- 25:38Speaker 5: it to life that made scenes like funny that I
- 25:41Speaker 5: didn't realize were funny or dramatic that I didn't really
- 25:44Speaker 5: realize were dramatic. And I guess like the scene where
- 25:46Speaker 5: Marv gets electrocuted didn't strike me as funny when I
- 25:50Speaker 5: read it. But then in the movie, it's hilarious.
- 25:52Speaker 8: Yeah, totally. Totally.
- 25:55Speaker 1: It's definitely tied to that type of thing. I mean, it's,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you know, pretty close to that. And they're getting to
- 26:00Speaker 1: that point where they can actually do good versions of it.
- 26:03Speaker 5: And this was kind of an interesting project because they
- 26:05Speaker 5: started making the movie before the comic was finished.
- 26:07Speaker 8: Before it was finished, yeah.
- 26:08Speaker 5: So they had to come up with an ending when
- 26:10Speaker 5: they didn't have one yet. And so the comics borrow
- 26:13Speaker 5: from the movie that way.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That's kind of bizarre. Which is cool, actually. I kind
- 26:16Speaker 1: of like it. Because people are usually such whiny bastards about, well,
- 26:19Speaker 1: I like the way the original ended. I'm like, well,
- 26:21Speaker 1: fuck it. This is the original. So if you don't
- 26:23Speaker 1: like the comic, it's your own fault. Because the movie
- 26:25Speaker 1: came up with it first. So, yeah, I don't know.
- 26:27Speaker 1: People just like to whine about whatever they change on anything.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It's kind of annoying.
- 26:31Speaker 5: They took the squid out.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Yeah, where's the squid?
- 26:34Speaker 7: What?
- 26:36Speaker 5: Oh, that's a.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Watchmen.
- 26:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I've seen Watchmen.
- 26:39Speaker 1: That's extra level of geek. I've seen the Watchmen, yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 1: But in the comic, there's a giant squid.
- 26:42Speaker 8: There's a giant squid.
- 26:42Speaker 5: There's a giant squid.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yeah, figure that out.
- 26:44Speaker 5: That's from another dimension.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, that's why they took it out.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 1: There's a giant squid.
- 26:49Speaker 4: At the end.
- 26:49Speaker 8: Nobody's going to get on board with that.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Like, hmm?
- 26:52Speaker 1: Like, yeah, I agree with that call. That's not the
- 26:55Speaker 1: dumbest thing I've ever heard.
- 26:56Speaker 5: I don't want to compare this movie to Watchmen, though,
- 26:58Speaker 5: because even though I kind of liked Watchmen... the movie.
- 27:02Speaker 5: It had a lot of faults and stuff to it.
- 27:03Speaker 5: It was kind of a mixed bag for me, but
- 27:05Speaker 5: I thought overall it was very successful.
- 27:07Speaker 1: This is not like that.
- 27:08Speaker 5: This is a good one.
- 27:09Speaker 7: Yeah, there was no big blue mane junk in this
- 27:11Speaker 7: one whatsoever.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Well it would have been you know big daddy junk
- 27:14Speaker 1: and you don't want that so just be glad there
- 27:16Speaker 1: wasn't I don't want to see the junk of anybody
- 27:19Speaker 1: involved in this movie.
- 27:19Speaker 5: Why does Nicolas Cage put on that what do you
- 27:23Speaker 5: call those what do you call the molestash yeah he
- 27:27Speaker 5: puts on the fake the wings or whatever.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah maybe that's part of his secret identity.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Yeah but he's wearing the mask I mean he has
- 27:35Speaker 5: to go to the full extent yeah he's hardcore he
- 27:38Speaker 5: changes his voice yeah yeah.
- 27:43Speaker 7: Good times.
- 27:43Speaker 6: Oh, man.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Because I noticed that when I was watching it. You know,
- 27:46Speaker 5: the first time I was watching it, and I was like...
- 27:48Speaker 5: Why does he have that biker beard mustache thing going on?
- 27:54Speaker 5: But he doesn't have it when he's... And then they
- 27:56Speaker 5: show him glowing him on.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, God. Well, I like the voice change.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Half of that, the director said he left in because
- 28:04Speaker 1: he was so annoyed with Christian Bale's voice change. But
- 28:07Speaker 1: he was like, no, go ahead. Keep going with that.
- 28:08Speaker 1: That's pretty funny. Well, he was there.
- 28:10Speaker 5: And I told this story before on the show. But
- 28:13Speaker 5: they had that reading. Because he didn't have to read
- 28:16Speaker 5: for this part or anything. Because he's a cascade. And
- 28:18Speaker 5: they're all reading around the table, and they got to
- 28:20Speaker 5: that part, and he started doing the Adam West thing.
- 28:23Speaker 5: And nobody wanted to say anything, and Matthew Vaughn was like,
- 28:25Speaker 5: this guy's the worst fucking actor. What is he doing?
- 28:30Speaker 5: And he didn't get it at first.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I don't know. Every once in a while, he makes
- 28:34Speaker 1: a good call. It's unusual, I suppose.
- 28:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it's nice to have Nick Cage back. We'll see.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Sorcerer's Apprentice.
- 28:42Speaker 5: He's got 30 movies coming out in the next year
- 28:45Speaker 5: because he's having all those financial problems.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Because his house didn't sell.
- 28:48Speaker 5: I guess it's because of that. Maybe he just likes
- 28:50Speaker 5: to work.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 28:51Speaker 4: He does.
- 28:51Speaker 5: He's in like a zillion movies.
- 28:53Speaker 1: It's been pretty steady for years.
- 28:54Speaker 9: I've never been a big fan of Nicolas Cage. Which
- 28:57Speaker 9: is why I'm more surprised about liking him in this
- 28:59Speaker 9: than I would.
- 28:59Speaker 4: Have liked him in Valley Girl.
- 29:01Speaker 7: I've never seen Valley Girl.
- 29:02Speaker 5: I thought he was pretty awesome at first. And then
- 29:07Speaker 5: Con Air was the turning point. That was the movie
- 29:10Speaker 5: where you're like, I can't believe Nicolas Cage is doing
- 29:12Speaker 5: Con Air. And then you want to forgive him. You're like, oh,
- 29:16Speaker 5: he just wants to do the acting hero thing. Once
- 29:18Speaker 5: he gets this out, he'll be all right. And face off, okay,
- 29:21Speaker 5: we'll let him have this. But then it just got bad.
- 29:24Speaker 8: Real bad.
- 29:24Speaker 1: It got ridiculously bad.
- 29:25Speaker 7: He's just one of those that just looking at him
- 29:27Speaker 7: kind of pisses me off.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I didn't like him for years.
- 29:29Speaker 7: I liked Raising Arizona.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And then that changed it for me. I liked him
- 29:33Speaker 1: in Raising Arizona.
- 29:34Speaker 5: He's great in Leaving Las Vegas. It's a great drama.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I mean, he's got potential to do drama,
- 29:38Speaker 1: but it's so hard. to watch, especially now in these
- 29:41Speaker 1: last 10 years of slaloming downhill. It's like it's even
- 29:44Speaker 1: hard to take him seriously. in anything and that's why
- 29:48Speaker 1: it's so impressive in this movie because I buy him
- 29:50Speaker 1: in every sense it's like I buy him as the
- 29:52Speaker 1: dad I buy him as the crazy vigilante cop I.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Got a friend that's like he's like oh it's Nicolas
- 29:57Speaker 5: Cage he's always Nicolas Cage you hire Nicolas Cage that's
- 30:00Speaker 5: what you're gonna get but I don't agree with that
- 30:02Speaker 5: really there are different Nicolas Cages and you know sometimes
- 30:06Speaker 5: lights are on and sometimes they're not yeah very.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Minor do you get the good one but I mean
- 30:11Speaker 1: it's in there still obviously I mean those National Treasure
- 30:14Speaker 1: movies are okay for what they.
- 30:16Speaker 5: Are but he's there's nothing that he has to do
- 30:19Speaker 5: as far as acting goes in movies I mean anyone
- 30:22Speaker 5: could have been in that part you know pretty much.
- 30:25Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 30:25Speaker 1: This to me, this whole movie is just kind of
- 30:28Speaker 1: like a big screw you to the Hollywood system. And
- 30:31Speaker 1: I'm so proud of it for getting out there, period.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Because not only did, you know, the creator of this
- 30:39Speaker 1: comic got turned down by like every studio, basically. I mean,
- 30:43Speaker 1: in one week. And it's not like they had to
- 30:44Speaker 1: stop and think about it. They were just like, no,
- 30:46Speaker 1: I don't think so. So they turned him down and
- 30:49Speaker 1: he finally got Matthew Vaughn on board and they went
- 30:51Speaker 1: out and had a dinner party, raised the money independently
- 30:55Speaker 1: through friends of theirs and put this together. And if
- 30:57Speaker 1: you would have stuck with the system, the only notes
- 31:00Speaker 1: he ever got back from people were, lose Hit-Girl, or
- 31:04Speaker 1: make Hit-Girl 25, make her not kill anybody, or if
- 31:07Speaker 1: she accidentally does, she has to feel bad about it.
- 31:10Speaker 1: That movie would suck. And I would not.
- 31:13Speaker 5: This movie has an edge. It's a little subversive.
- 31:16Speaker 1: That's why this movie works.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Usually a lot of people not like us won't pay
- 31:20Speaker 5: for that they want to see this straight up then
- 31:22Speaker 5: they want to see iron man 2.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Yeah which there's nothing wrong with iron man 2 the
- 31:26Speaker 1: trailer looked good it was the first thing on yeah.
- 31:28Speaker 10: But it doesn't it doesn't if they had done that
- 31:31Speaker 10: it wouldn't have tied in her whole upbringing with nicholas
- 31:34Speaker 10: cage yeah you got that point where she comes in
- 31:36Speaker 10: and basically saves kick-ass's life and he's like almost appalled
- 31:40Speaker 10: the fact that she's killing yeah blood spraying everywhere and
- 31:43Speaker 10: What does he bring?
- 31:44Speaker 1: He brings two sticks and a taser.
- 31:46Speaker 8: She's got this huge blade.
- 31:50Speaker 5: His taser can be traced, but he does shoot a
- 31:53Speaker 5: guy in the head with it, so that's pretty good still.
- 31:56Speaker 1: But it's, I mean, she, like, just all of that stuff. Like,
- 31:59Speaker 1: even without her, they would have also pulled all the
- 32:02Speaker 1: realism out of Kick-Ass' role as well. I mean, it's
- 32:05Speaker 1: like he would have been reduced to being a, it
- 32:08Speaker 1: would have been a fucking superhero movie, you know? It's like,
- 32:10Speaker 1: it would have been a joke, and they would have
- 32:12Speaker 1: played the jokes, and there would have been no drama
- 32:14Speaker 1: behind it or no reality with people getting killed.
- 32:16Speaker 4: No way.
- 32:17Speaker 5: It's getting an audience in the seats for this movie.
- 32:20Speaker 5: The biggest enemy this movie has is there are a
- 32:22Speaker 5: whole bunch of other movies that look just like it.
- 32:25Speaker 5: There's Mystery Men. Even Watchmen you could probably count. Yeah,
- 32:29Speaker 5: Mystery Men.
- 32:31Speaker 12: Come on, really.
- 32:31Speaker 1: You can't compare.
- 32:32Speaker 5: It sucks.
- 32:33Speaker 1: No, but I could see watching the trailers and thinking
- 32:37Speaker 1: they were in the same category.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Rob Lowe was in. I can't remember what it was called.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Comic Book Heroes or something like that. And then there's
- 32:43Speaker 5: one Woody Harrelson has coming out called Defendor and all this.
- 32:46Speaker 5: There's just too many other movies that look like this,
- 32:49Speaker 5: and it hurts.
- 32:50Speaker 1: And I think that's the difference, though, is that all
- 32:52Speaker 1: of those are a joke. And this one has its
- 32:55Speaker 1: level of looking. I mean, it really does look at
- 32:57Speaker 1: the funny end of what's going on. I mean, what
- 33:00Speaker 1: if I decide to be a superhero? That's a ridiculous idea.
- 33:03Speaker 1: So you kind of have to mine that for comedy.
- 33:05Speaker 5: But what's great is it hasn't really been done. And
- 33:08Speaker 5: I bet there's not a person in this room that
- 33:10Speaker 5: hadn't thought of that before.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I told you. I put a cape on after Batman.
- 33:13Speaker 5: I don't tell anybody.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I was out on my street protecting it.
- 33:16Speaker 5: Putting on a black outfit. I'm not sure you were
- 33:19Speaker 5: ever going to do it.
- 33:20Speaker 4: I did. Nice, nice.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I did too. See, there you go. I had
- 33:25Speaker 1: a katana.
- 33:26Speaker 5: There is a crazy katana.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I had a katana.
- 33:28Speaker 7: There you go.
- 33:29Speaker 5: These people really exist.
- 33:30Speaker 4: I did.
- 33:30Speaker 5: If you go on the internet, you can find them.
- 33:32Speaker 5: There's one in Nashville, I think.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:34Speaker 5: I can't remember what his name is. There's a couple
- 33:36Speaker 5: out in New York. There's one in New York. There's
- 33:38Speaker 5: a couple in New York. I watched a short documentary
- 33:43Speaker 5: on it one time. There's Mr. Mysterious and there's some
- 33:45Speaker 5: guy with a silver mask. They go around doing what
- 33:49Speaker 5: Kick-Ass was doing. They walk down the streets and they
- 33:51Speaker 5: ask people if they need help and stuff. They're probably
- 33:55Speaker 5: all dead.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Probably.
- 33:56Speaker 10: See, it didn't work for me because we lived out
- 33:58Speaker 10: in the middle of nowhere in the woods. Yeah, nobody
- 34:01Speaker 10: needed help, so it was just me walking around the woods.
- 34:03Speaker 1: There was no Mr. Bitey for you? No, there was
- 34:04Speaker 1: no Mr.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Bitey.
- 34:05Speaker 1: There was nobody on my street that night at all.
- 34:07Speaker 7: Are you waking back up for a second?
- 34:09Speaker 5: Mr. Bitey is awesome.
- 34:11Speaker 7: Is that your favorite part of the whole movie? Is
- 34:13Speaker 7: that all you have to say about it?
- 34:14Speaker 10: When houses are four miles apart, there's not a whole
- 34:16Speaker 10: lot of action going on.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Not really.
- 34:19Speaker 5: There weren't any mass slasher serial killers in the woods?
- 34:23Speaker 12: No, no.
- 34:23Speaker 5: I always looked for them, but I never did find them.
- 34:25Speaker 7: See, when I was a kid, we didn't play superhero games.
- 34:27Speaker 9: We played Jason and chased each other around with fireplace tools.
- 34:31Speaker 1: You were out in the woods, though. It made sense.
- 34:35Speaker 7: My grandma wasn't happy when we told her what Jason
- 34:37Speaker 7: actually was.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I can see why.
- 34:40Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Probably because you were going to fall and actually stab
- 34:43Speaker 1: each other.
- 34:44Speaker 7: Yeah, those sharp tools really aren't the best.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not the best for letting children play. You
- 34:48Speaker 1: shouldn't run with those.
- 34:49Speaker 7: Lesson learned.
- 34:52Speaker 1: There's another story right there.
- 34:53Speaker 7: There's a scar to go with it.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Oh, that's another thing I thought this movie did that
- 35:00Speaker 1: was so well done is it tapped into our culture
- 35:03Speaker 1: pretty well. Like the fact that immediately... There's a fight
- 35:06Speaker 1: going on outside. Go call the police. But they don't.
- 35:09Speaker 1: What does he do? He runs in, gets all his friends,
- 35:11Speaker 1: and busts out the cell phones and starts recording it.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And within minutes, it's on the internet. And it's already
- 35:16Speaker 1: a viral thing. I thought that was cool.
- 35:18Speaker 5: The guy runs in there and he's like, there's a
- 35:20Speaker 5: guy outside dressed like a superhero fighting these guys. And
- 35:23Speaker 5: it's awesome.
- 35:23Speaker 1: And it's awesome. Well, that was my thought exactly.
- 35:26Speaker 7: I was like, well, it is awesome, actually.
- 35:28Speaker 1: But call the cops for fuck's sakes.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:30Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, I don't think that's... I mean,
- 35:33Speaker 1: our world is in that place now. So the fact
- 35:35Speaker 1: that it is existing in this reality, I think that's
- 35:37Speaker 1: part of it. If it were a cheesy comic book movie,
- 35:40Speaker 1: you know, people would run out and try to help
- 35:42Speaker 1: them too, maybe. But not now. They all stood around
- 35:44Speaker 1: and watched and they got their video cameras out and
- 35:46Speaker 1: they recorded it on their phone and they uploaded it
- 35:48Speaker 1: immediately to YouTube.
- 35:49Speaker 4: So.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I think it tapped into that, you know, the fact
- 35:52Speaker 1: that everybody is willing to record things and put it
- 35:55Speaker 1: on the Internet. And he used that to his advantage.
- 35:57Speaker 1: He immediately set up a profile online as a superhero.
- 36:01Speaker 1: And that's how he, you know, put the word out
- 36:03Speaker 1: about them and, you know, found all his cases to
- 36:05Speaker 1: go work on.
- 36:06Speaker 5: He goes back to the comic book store that he
- 36:08Speaker 5: normally frequents and suddenly there's all this kick-ass stuff.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Kick-ass cappuccino.
- 36:14Speaker 5: And costumes and figures and all that stuff.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I think it's just, yeah, it did a good job
- 36:19Speaker 1: tapping into the real world that we actually exist in, which, again,
- 36:22Speaker 1: is what makes it so much more realistic when they
- 36:25Speaker 1: start just annihilating people. Again, I think it needs that violence.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I think that's what separates it from the other stuff,
- 36:31Speaker 1: is the drama and the violence that it kind of
- 36:34Speaker 1: delivers on. Because by the end, yeah, I was kind
- 36:37Speaker 1: of welling up. Sadly, it wasn't at the dramatic moment
- 36:40Speaker 1: as much as when Hit Girl was just taking out
- 36:42Speaker 1: those guys in the hallway. I was welling up with.
- 36:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I could have watched like two hours of that.
- 36:50Speaker 4: I could.
- 36:51Speaker 5: A violence that just really hit me, like the scene
- 36:54Speaker 5: where she cuts the guy's leg off in the hotel room.
- 36:57Speaker 5: And the one that really got me was the one
- 36:59Speaker 5: where Big Daddy and her put the guy in the
- 37:02Speaker 5: car smasher.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 37:03Speaker 5: There's a shot of that guy getting squashed. It looks
- 37:06Speaker 5: like a watermelon exploding. It's just, oh, it's horrible.
- 37:09Speaker 7: What about the microwave?
- 37:11Speaker 8: Oh, that was the bad.
- 37:12Speaker 4: Guys, but yeah.
- 37:13Speaker 7: But still, you know.
- 37:14Speaker 4: He's violent.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Yeah, that was something else, too.
- 37:17Speaker 8: Does it work, just like a big microwave?
- 37:19Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 37:20Speaker 5: He's like, oh.
- 37:21Speaker 1: The worst of money.
- 37:22Speaker 8: Yeah. As he's pantomiming, what did you do with our code?
- 37:28Speaker 8: The guy's like holding his head.
- 37:29Speaker 5: It's awesome.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Basically, that was the director going, screw you, Last House
- 37:32Speaker 1: on the Left. You think your scene's a big deal?
- 37:34Speaker 1: Watch this. I'm putting the whole motherfucker in the microwave.
- 37:38Speaker 5: Yeah, this movie has so much energy to it that
- 37:40Speaker 5: I think it kind of reminds me of Zombieland last year.
- 37:44Speaker 5: But this is actually even better.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I prefer Zombieland still.
- 37:49Speaker 7: Give me Zombieland.
- 37:50Speaker 1: It's a fine line, but I would almost put this one.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Just because I think it delivers a little more to it.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Zombieland was just fun. Zombieland had Twinkies. Twinkies were awesome.
- 38:01Speaker 10: Really fast paced yeah but yeah it was it was
- 38:03Speaker 10: a shot in the arm to zombie movies yeah the
- 38:06Speaker 10: same as this is a shot in the arm to
- 38:08Speaker 10: comic for all superheroes yeah it's one of those things.
- 38:10Speaker 5: You've gotten dull both of these movies are the kind
- 38:11Speaker 5: of movie that I think you could watch over and
- 38:13Speaker 5: over and just never get tired of you know definitely I.
- 38:17Speaker 9: Would but my mom borrowed Zombieland and she hasn't given
- 38:19Speaker 9: it back I like that I.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Like that some of your old niece watched Zombieland I'm
- 38:23Speaker 5: not sure that she needs to see.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Uh no kick ass really she'll be calling everybody cunts laughing.
- 38:31Speaker 5: Um, but it is that kind of movie. And again,
- 38:32Speaker 5: I do think there's going to be a split in
- 38:34Speaker 5: the audience based on what your moral fiber is, I guess,
- 38:38Speaker 5: or whatever. If you can laugh at this or if
- 38:40Speaker 5: it just offends you, I suppose.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I think so. But again, I think even more than that,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I almost don't care if the people that don't like it,
- 38:47Speaker 1: don't like it. I think what's more important is the
- 38:49Speaker 1: fact that it got made. The fact that they said,
- 38:52Speaker 1: screw you to every studio they went out. And it's
- 38:54Speaker 1: not like it's a little, you know, million dollar independent movie.
- 38:57Speaker 1: This is a big budget movie with real stars and
- 39:00Speaker 1: a hell of a look to it. I mean, it
- 39:02Speaker 1: looks good. Every scene in it looks good.
- 39:05Speaker 5: But it's still going to be number one, so that's something.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Again, just the fact that it's out there and
- 39:11Speaker 1: the fact that they made the movie that they wanted
- 39:13Speaker 1: to do. They didn't compromise anywhere along the way. That's
- 39:17Speaker 1: fucking awesome.
- 39:17Speaker 5: This doesn't feel like a compromised movie.
- 39:19Speaker 4: No, no.
- 39:19Speaker 5: When I saw it, I thought we were literally the
- 39:22Speaker 5: first audience who had seen it, and I can tell
- 39:24Speaker 5: you that nothing was changed.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:26Speaker 5: Other than just the music, they didn't cut anything. It's
- 39:28Speaker 5: all there.
- 39:29Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 39:30Speaker 10: See, that's the problem with a lot of movies nowadays
- 39:32Speaker 10: is they go through and change shit.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Everything.
- 39:34Speaker 5: They just leave it alone.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Yeah. You know?
- 39:38Speaker 1: Before they even shoot it at the time. I mean,
- 39:40Speaker 1: they're giving you notes from the studio from day one,
- 39:43Speaker 1: and you've changed. You're working on an entirely different movie
- 39:45Speaker 1: by the time.
- 39:45Speaker 4: You shoot it.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the director's mom doesn't like this scene. You need
- 39:47Speaker 1: to change it.
- 39:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Know that's bullshit and that this is an example this
- 39:51Speaker 1: is like what you get without studio screwing things up
- 39:54Speaker 1: without studio involvement changing everything along the way because there
- 39:58Speaker 1: was no studio they finished this on their own and
- 40:00Speaker 1: took it and said okay who wants to distribute it
- 40:02Speaker 1: we got this movie that's gonna make a good amount
- 40:04Speaker 1: of money and all you got to do is put
- 40:06Speaker 1: it out there and obviously somebody was like okay we
- 40:08Speaker 1: like money sure we'll go do that so I that's
- 40:11Speaker 1: what i think people need to do it's like fuck
- 40:13Speaker 1: the studio system start making your own movies find these
- 40:16Speaker 1: independent producers because they're.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Out there it's really hard you know the studios own
- 40:20Speaker 5: everything the the distribution the I mean, the finance, they
- 40:25Speaker 5: own everybody. So it's hard to make these movies outside
- 40:28Speaker 5: of this.
- 40:28Speaker 1: But I think that's why I'm so proud of this
- 40:30Speaker 1: one because I think this can kind of change the
- 40:32Speaker 1: game a little bit. You've at least got one thing
- 40:34Speaker 1: to be like, look at this. It's like this made
- 40:38Speaker 1: its money and we gave it back to them. So
- 40:40Speaker 1: we need somebody else to back us on this next project.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Watchmen, they didn't really– they didn't– They didn't cop out
- 40:46Speaker 5: with Watchmen. They left all the violence.
- 40:47Speaker 6: And everything in.
- 40:48Speaker 7: And all the man jokes.
- 40:49Speaker 5: But I just knew that was going to hurt our
- 40:51Speaker 5: kind of films because people weren't going to go see it.
- 40:53Speaker 5: And then the studios would go, look, see? We let
- 40:56Speaker 5: you have Watchmen and nobody cared. So let's make Transformers 2.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Stupid.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't know.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I mean, I still like Watchmen, but that one I
- 41:05Speaker 1: think suffered from it probably didn't need to be a movie. Yeah,
- 41:08Speaker 1: that was almost impossible. Well, no, everybody I hear talk
- 41:12Speaker 1: about it, and I almost agree. In this day and
- 41:14Speaker 1: age of cable television, it should have been an HBO project.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I mean, if you can make all these other things,
- 41:20Speaker 1: if you could have made it as long as you
- 41:21Speaker 1: wanted and you could have worked in all the stuff
- 41:23Speaker 1: they had to cut out... I think it would have
- 41:25Speaker 1: made people happy because they still could have been violent.
- 41:27Speaker 1: They still could have had the language. They could have
- 41:29Speaker 1: done whatever they wanted. And it would have not had
- 41:32Speaker 1: to shut it down and, you know, chop it up into, like,
- 41:34Speaker 1: a three-hour little window.
- 41:36Speaker 7: At least they didn't make it a sci-fi miniseries.
- 41:39Speaker 1: God, no. So it should have been, yeah, HBO or
- 41:42Speaker 1: Showtime because they let them do whatever the hell they want.
- 41:44Speaker 1: And you get a little more leeway. So I think
- 41:47Speaker 1: that's probably what they should have done with that. I
- 41:49Speaker 1: still think the finished project is pretty good, but it
- 41:52Speaker 1: does have its issues, so.
- 41:54Speaker 5: I would probably call it a noble failure, if nothing else.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't even say failure. I think it's a good movie,
- 42:00Speaker 1: but it's not perfect. That's where that one went wrong,
- 42:03Speaker 1: is it was just trying to do too much. This
- 42:05Speaker 1: one didn't have that problem. It's got a very set story.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I mean, it's a great runtime. It moves at the
- 42:11Speaker 1: right pace, but yet it gives you just enough time
- 42:13Speaker 1: to get invested in the characters, and I think that's
- 42:16Speaker 1: why this one works.
- 42:17Speaker 5: It still happens in Oranges, though, because Watchmen is not
- 42:19Speaker 5: a fun movie to watch.
- 42:20Speaker 1: No, no.
- 42:21Speaker 5: It's kind of hard to watch. This is a much
- 42:24Speaker 5: more fun movie, but still has enough dramatize to it
- 42:28Speaker 5: to make it not seem just like feather light.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Well, I think this has got a lot of weight
- 42:33Speaker 1: to it, but it does make it fun. It works
- 42:36Speaker 1: in enough of a comedy that it kind of carries
- 42:38Speaker 1: the rest of it through.
- 42:40Speaker 4: It kicks ass.
- 42:41Speaker 5: I don't know what else to say.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:42Speaker 5: It's one of the best movies I've seen this year.
- 42:44Speaker 4: It is.
- 42:44Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It's amazing. It's way more than I expected, really. All right.
- 42:50Speaker 5: I'm done.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Done?
- 42:51Speaker 4: Yay.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Kick ass, kick sass.
- 42:54Speaker 7: Kick sass.
- 42:54Speaker 1: There you go.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Two thumbs up.
- 42:56Speaker 6: Yep.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 42:58Speaker 1: All right. We will take a break and be back
- 43:00Speaker 1: with the rest of the show. Two Mr. Bitey paws up.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:19Speaker 6: Marching on His true name.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Popcorn freshly popped and buttered.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Look good?
- 43:49Speaker 1: Sure, it looks good and it tastes even better.
- 43:51Speaker 10: Get some now.
- 43:53Speaker 3: It rests on 13 acres of earth over the very
- 43:57Speaker 3: center of hell.
- 44:00Speaker 4: The last house on the left.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Here is the first motion picture to offer to the
- 44:06Speaker 3: daring a look into the final maddening space between.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Life and death. The Last House on the left. Caution.
- 44:18Speaker 4: To avoid fainting, keep repeating. It's only a movie. Only
- 44:23Speaker 4: a movie.
- 44:25Speaker 8: Only a movie.
- 44:27Speaker 3: Sights and sounds far beyond anything you've tested. The Last
- 44:33Speaker 3: House on the left. Offered by Sean Cunningham Films Ltd.
- 44:37Speaker 4: In color. Caution. To avoid fainting, keep repeating. It's only
- 44:44Speaker 4: a movie.
- 44:45Speaker 8: Only a movie.
- 44:47Speaker 4: Only a movie. Take as much as you can.
- 44:50Speaker 6: Only a movie.
- 44:53Speaker 4: Hi, this is famous Hollywood producer Robert Evans.
- 44:57Speaker 15: You know, I've made a lot of powerful enemies during
- 44:59Speaker 15: my time in Hollywood.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Like the time I.
- 45:01Speaker 15: Pushed Steve McQueen in front of a moving car on
- 45:03Speaker 15: the set of The Getaway because he was macking on
- 45:06Speaker 15: my lady, Allie McGraw. But I've made one great friend,
- 45:10Speaker 15: a boffo friend, if you will.
- 45:12Speaker 4: Since I retired.
- 45:14Speaker 15: It's called Shosho, and it's the best fucking movie podcast ever.
- 45:19Speaker 15: It's even better than cocaine, which I would know a
- 45:23Speaker 15: lot about.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Visit Shosho at shosho.podomatic.com or search Shosho, all one word,
- 45:29Speaker 1: in the iTunes store.
- 45:33Speaker 4: It's part of your problem, you know. You haven't seen
- 45:35Speaker 4: enough movies.
- 45:35Speaker 1: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 45:40Speaker 4: And now, on with the show.
- 46:08Speaker 1: All right, we are back and we've got feedback. Yay!
- 46:14Speaker 1: This week is from Fozzie Bear. Now, I'm missing last
- 46:17Speaker 1: week's drag queen half of the show. Well, you may
- 46:21Speaker 1: consider yourself lucky because, yeah, we watched Less Than The Dust. So, yeah,
- 46:26Speaker 1: you may consider yourself lucky, but to some, they seem
- 46:28Speaker 1: intrigued by my choice last week. So, yeah, this week
- 46:32Speaker 1: is Fozzie Bear.
- 46:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm glad I missed that episode.
- 46:35Speaker 16: Hey guys, this is Fozzie from Twitter. I just wanted
- 46:38Speaker 16: to call and comment on the Lust in the Dust episode.
- 46:41Speaker 16: I've never seen Lust in the Dust, but I'm going
- 46:43Speaker 16: to now because I consider myself a bit of a
- 46:45Speaker 16: connoisseur when it comes to drag films. A couple that
- 46:49Speaker 16: you might not have seen but you might want to
- 46:50Speaker 16: check out is the pinnacle of this is Girls Will
- 46:53Speaker 16: Be Girls featuring three of the best drag queens you've
- 46:57Speaker 16: ever seen playing roommates in a Hollywood. The other that
- 47:03Speaker 16: I always reference and make people watch is Psycho Beach Party,
- 47:06Speaker 16: which I'm sure you've seen, but that's the great thing
- 47:09Speaker 16: about drag queen movies when the drag queen or the
- 47:13Speaker 16: cross-dresser or the man in a woman's dress is playing
- 47:17Speaker 16: an actual woman in the movie, it always makes it
- 47:19Speaker 16: that much funnier and that much more hilarious. So if
- 47:22Speaker 16: you haven't seen those movies, check it out. And also,
- 47:24Speaker 16: I'm a new fan to the show. I've been listening
- 47:26Speaker 16: to you guys for a couple months. We missed each
- 47:27Speaker 16: other around the weekend, but hopefully you're going to be
- 47:29Speaker 16: at the next one in Cincinnati, and we'll have to
- 47:31Speaker 16: say hello. Also, I want you to come on my show,
- 47:34Speaker 16: The Podcast Podcast, and we'll do an interview. Okay, thanks
- 47:37Speaker 16: so much. I'll talk to you guys later.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Bye.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 47:39Speaker 7: I love Psycho Beach Party.
- 47:41Speaker 4: That movie is fantastic.
- 47:41Speaker 1: One of my favorite movies is Psycho Beach Party.
- 47:43Speaker 5: The other one you mentioned I haven't seen, so I'll
- 47:46Speaker 5: have to look it up, I guess.
- 47:47Speaker 1: If you guys are up for it.
- 47:48Speaker 5: I'm all about some surf.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 47:50Speaker 7: The Big Kahuna.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Big Kahuna.
- 47:52Speaker 8: Lauren Ambrose.
- 47:53Speaker 5: I'm not much of a drag queen critic, per se, but,
- 47:57Speaker 5: you know.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I just like Divine. I can't even explain why. He's
- 48:01Speaker 1: just entertaining.
- 48:02Speaker 7: You lost me on that one.
- 48:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 48:04Speaker 1: We actually discussed that. I knew about 30 seconds in
- 48:06Speaker 1: on the movie, you would have been out. You would
- 48:09Speaker 1: have already been annoyed by it and pissed off. I
- 48:13Speaker 1: don't know. You can watch it somewhere down the line.
- 48:14Speaker 1: It's got Tab Hunter.
- 48:16Speaker 4: No, I'm good.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Tab Hunter.
- 48:17Speaker 5: I'm good.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Damn.
- 48:19Speaker 5: I do need to get the complete series of Buzz
- 48:21Speaker 5: and Buddy.
- 48:23Speaker 1: You just want to watch the one with, what's his name?
- 48:26Speaker 1: What's the Lex Luthor movie where he's a chick?
- 48:29Speaker 7: Michael Rosenbaum?
- 48:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:31Speaker 7: I forget what that one is.
- 48:32Speaker 1: That one looks terrible. Just one of the girls. That's
- 48:37Speaker 1: a whole different one. That's the other one.
- 48:39Speaker 7: No, it's up for sorority.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Sorority boys.
- 48:41Speaker 8: Sorority massacre.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Sorority boys.
- 48:43Speaker 5: Yikes.
- 48:43Speaker 1: That one looks terrible.
- 48:45Speaker 7: Just one of the girls is the Corey Hamlin.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. Which also seems like a bad idea.
- 48:50Speaker 1: He's a cheerleader.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Hot. I mean.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Oh, Lord. But, yes, thank you, Fozzie. Yeah, we did.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Fozzie was at the weekend. I think we just missed him.
- 48:59Speaker 1: I think he showed up to eat when we just left.
- 49:02Speaker 1: So we just missed him. But Fozzie is very cool.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I actually kind of met him in passing at the
- 49:06Speaker 1: Cincy show. And I am up for doing the show.
- 49:10Speaker 1: He does the podcast podcast where he actually sort of
- 49:13Speaker 1: highlights different podcasts and talks to the people making it
- 49:17Speaker 1: and kind of what it is that they do. And
- 49:19Speaker 1: it's it's pretty cool i listen to most of them
- 49:21Speaker 1: so far and a lot of them are people that
- 49:23Speaker 1: we know from the other shows but um a few
- 49:25Speaker 1: of them are ones that i haven't heard their show
- 49:27Speaker 1: and it's kind of interesting to find out about it
- 49:29Speaker 1: through them so it's definitely worth checking out uh it
- 49:33Speaker 1: is at the podcast podcast.com and um Yeah, you better
- 49:36Speaker 1: just look up Fozzie Bear on iTunes, because I think
- 49:39Speaker 1: you realized after you titled it, it's impossible to search
- 49:41Speaker 1: for podcast podcast. The lesson we all learn. But, yep,
- 49:46Speaker 1: now that we are back on track, there's no excuse
- 49:48Speaker 1: to not call or write in. So, whatever you've been
- 49:51Speaker 1: meaning to say, hey, get it on over to us.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Word.
- 49:55Speaker 7: Don't be shy.
- 49:58Speaker 5: Just let your feelings rule.
- 50:02Speaker 13: Don't be shy. We'd like to hear from you. So
- 50:04Speaker 13: give us a call at 502-365-5565. Or you can email
- 50:09Speaker 13: us at geeksatmoviemeltdown.com. And just stop by the website for
- 50:13Speaker 13: our frequent updates. That's moviemeltdown.com. And while you're there, click
- 50:18Speaker 13: on the forums link and go to our message boards
- 50:20Speaker 13: at Pop Syndicate. Or go to popsyndicate.com and go to
- 50:23Speaker 13: the forum sections and look for Movie Meltdown.
- 50:25Speaker 4: On my own.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Alright, so as for the updates and announcements, just wanted
- 50:35Speaker 1: to say we did not win a rondo.
- 50:37Speaker 7: I voted for us.
- 50:40Speaker 1: I did too.
- 50:42Speaker 5: We didn't have a chance in the head.
- 50:43Speaker 4: No, I know.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I know we didn't. I mean, we lost to like
- 50:46Speaker 1: dread central and rumor of radio.
- 50:49Speaker 5: It's nice to be nominated. Cause when, when I saw
- 50:51Speaker 5: that we were on the ballot, I was like, Holy shit.
- 50:54Speaker 5: I know. I couldn't believe it.
- 50:55Speaker 1: That's, and that's kind of what I wanted to say.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I just wanted to thank all our fans and friends
- 51:00Speaker 1: who bothered to vote for us. Cause that's awesome. And
- 51:02Speaker 1: that kind of means it's not really over. I mean,
- 51:05Speaker 1: the fact that you voted made a huge difference and
- 51:07Speaker 1: I think kind of put us on the radar. We're
- 51:09Speaker 1: on the geek map, so to say. So, uh, I
- 51:12Speaker 1: don't know. It's just a thank you for doing it,
- 51:14Speaker 1: but I think it makes it a lot more likely
- 51:16Speaker 1: for us to turn up on something like that in
- 51:18Speaker 1: the future. Sure, absolutely. Yeah, the more you guys kind
- 51:21Speaker 1: of get the word out and get behind us on
- 51:23Speaker 1: these projects, it helps the show as a whole. So
- 51:26Speaker 1: I just thank you.
- 51:27Speaker 5: Now that we've been nominated, I think we actually have
- 51:28Speaker 5: to be good now.
- 51:30Speaker 4: Wow. I don't know about that.
- 51:32Speaker 7: Why start now?
- 51:33Speaker 1: That means Roger needs a quick fall asleep. Not a
- 51:35Speaker 1: chance of that.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Yeah, really. Sorry, guys.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Mr.
- 51:39Speaker 5: Beatty.
- 51:40Speaker 10: I'll hit him with a taser in the forehead every
- 51:43Speaker 10: once in a while just to wake him up.
- 51:46Speaker 1: But yeah, just wanted to send a thank you out
- 51:47Speaker 1: to everyone who voted for us. And if you didn't, nah,
- 51:50Speaker 1: screw you.
- 51:50Speaker 8: Yeah, you know.
- 51:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Okay, kids, get out your decoder pins. No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 51:56Speaker 1: For you members of the Secret Circle.
- 51:58Speaker 7: What time is it, you?
- 51:59Speaker 1: It is time.
- 52:00Speaker 3: What time?
- 52:01Speaker 1: Time for the movie lockdown Secret Circle reveal of the
- 52:03Speaker 1: next two features.
- 52:04Speaker 7: Holy shit.
- 52:05Speaker 1: And they might even be right. They've been off for
- 52:07Speaker 1: several weeks now, so. All right, so next week, we
- 52:11Speaker 1: will try to.
- 52:11Speaker 5: I'm traveling back to the 80s.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Pick up where we left off two weeks ago. So
- 52:16Speaker 1: next week is the Wraith.
- 52:17Speaker 7: Hopefully.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Hopefully, we will get back on track and pick up
- 52:22Speaker 1: where we left off. And the following week, we may
- 52:25Speaker 1: have to head back out into the world.
- 52:26Speaker 5: Oh, God, not again.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Get some more rolling rock thrown in our feet and
- 52:31Speaker 1: yeah yeah please we'll bring our own and just throw
- 52:35Speaker 1: it at people yeah i don't want to drink stuff
- 52:37Speaker 1: just throw it at.
- 52:38Speaker 5: People well we were we were kind of the art
- 52:40Speaker 5: theater this uh this week uh so we're gonna probably
- 52:43Speaker 5: be heading to the multiplex for this one.
- 52:46Speaker 1: If we're unlucky so yes the following week will be
- 52:50Speaker 1: nightmare on elm street.
- 52:52Speaker 7: I wonder if Mr. Bitey will be in this one.
- 52:54Speaker 7: I don't know. That's the only way to catch Roger's attention.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Maybe the Mr.
- 52:58Speaker 7: Bitey will be in it.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Maybe that's what did it to Freddy's face. Mr.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Bitey. Mr. Bitey.
- 53:02Speaker 7: I got my nose pierced by a cat once. That
- 53:04Speaker 7: was fun.
- 53:05Speaker 1: That saved you a trip to the mall.
- 53:07Speaker 4: Mr.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Piercy.
- 53:09Speaker 5: With Nightmare, I'm open-minded but not really expecting anything. I
- 53:14Speaker 5: got a feeling it's just not going to faze me.
- 53:17Speaker 5: I probably won't hate it. I probably won't like it.
- 53:19Speaker 5: It's like just another remake. But we'll see.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Pretty much. I'll try to stay open-minded. I want to
- 53:24Speaker 1: at least see what they've done with this. I haven't
- 53:26Speaker 1: been on board really with the idea forever. So we'll
- 53:30Speaker 1: have to see what they do. But I guess we
- 53:33Speaker 1: will cue the kick-ass music and get on out of here.
- 53:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 53:42Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Bye.
- 53:43Speaker 1: See you later.
- 53:45Speaker 4: Hey, girl.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I don't know a damn about my reputation. You know
- 53:48Speaker 1: that in the.
- 53:51Speaker 5: Past it's a new generation.
- 53:52Speaker 6: And a girl can do.
- 53:56Speaker 1: What she wants to do.
- 54:05Speaker 6: Not me And I.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Don't give a damn about my reputation I never said
- 54:11Speaker 2: I wanted to improve my station And I'm only doing
- 54:16Speaker 2: good when I'm living for me Don't have to please
- 54:21Speaker 2: no one And I don't give a damn about my
- 54:24Speaker 2: bad reputation Not.
- 54:30Speaker 6: Me Not me Not me.
- 54:50Speaker 2: And I'm never gonna care about my bad reputation Not
- 54:53Speaker 2: me Not me Not me.
- 55:03Speaker 6: Not me.
- 55:21Speaker 1: No communication And everyone.
