- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we are talking about fall cleaning.
- 0:33Now if you'd said these words to me as a child, I would have
- 0:35broke it out in hives and cried because my mother had this big
- 0:39old habit tradition of every spring and every fall cleaning
- 0:43the entire house from top to bottom, changing the curtains.
- 0:46God, the changing of the curtains.
- 0:48It just seems so arduous to me. Even just saying it now.
- 0:52It makes me get the heebie jeebies.
- 0:53Because it was let's get them all out.
- 0:56Then we got to wash the ones in the bag because they've been in
- 0:58the bag and we've got to iron them all.
- 1:00And my mother spent more time ironing.
- 1:03Gosh, I when I think about it, I don't even know if I iron at
- 1:06all. And she's always ironing when I
- 1:09was a kid. But I think it was part of her
- 1:11meditation. She'd sit on the phone with her
- 1:14girlfriends and she'd iron and iron and iron and boy.
- 1:18OK, I digress. Anyway, let's get back to the
- 1:20fall cleaning. So.
- 1:22I did like the fact though, that the house felt different when
- 1:25you did it and we would bring out things that would gear us up
- 1:29for the winter, gear us up for colder weather, gear us up for
- 1:33switching our clothes around, taking putting summer clothes
- 1:36away, and bringing out fall clothes on.
- 1:40Just absolutely changing. She even changed the place mats
- 1:43that we used in the house, the napkins, the bedding, it was a
- 1:47big switch. It was kind of reminded me of,
- 1:49like when you go to Disneyland and at night you go to bed and
- 1:53it's like one true thing. And then you wake up in the
- 1:55morning and all of a sudden it's Christmas and it's like super
- 1:57exciting. Like, oh, we woke up and it's
- 1:59Christmas and it it was like that.
- 2:01Over the course of a weekend, she would transform the entire
- 2:04house. Now again, I did not enjoy being
- 2:07part of the process because it was work and I didn't.
- 2:10Like it and all I wanted to do was paint or read or go outside
- 2:13and do something different. But I was not into the whole
- 2:16process of the cleaning and doing it all.
- 2:19But I did love the results. And that's why we're talking
- 2:21about it, because fall cleaning. Is not something that's always
- 2:25fun, but it does make you feel really good.
- 2:28So I started my list the other day and you know, the weather
- 2:32here can be really tough on the House.
- 2:34So I was talking about, all right, we've got to power wash
- 2:36the house before it gets too cold, and we can't be out and
- 2:39get wet. We've got to power wash the
- 2:41house to get down all of the pollen and everything else off
- 2:44of it. And we've got to get the plants
- 2:47arranged inside. Whoever needs to come inside,
- 2:50we've got to make sure we have everything, buddy.
- 2:53Repotted people. Other plants need to go into the
- 2:55ground that need to go in the ground.
- 2:57We need to get everything basically set up.
- 2:59So there are traditions that you need to go into in order to feel
- 3:03really great about things. And the fall cleaning piece of
- 3:06this for me is huge because it's also involving the gardens.
- 3:10I've got to go in and strip out all the stuff in the garden that
- 3:14doesn't belong in there. In fact, the garden is open
- 3:17right now and chickens are over in there.
- 3:19I started opening it up the other day and every morning they
- 3:21love to go over in there and get in and see what they can find.
- 3:24But actually going in and stripping out the garden?
- 3:28Another big part of the process? Fall, cleaning, fall.
- 3:31Clean the farm, it's. It is so imperative to the
- 3:36well-being of feeling like you're setting yourself up for
- 3:40the win of the spring. So ultimately think about it
- 3:44this way. When you do this for yourself in
- 3:46your head space and you're doing it for your surroundings as
- 3:49well, you're making the the the space for new things, but you're
- 3:54also making it a healthy space. So by me not letting things just
- 3:58rot in the ground in the garden and dig them all out.
- 4:02And get them out of the way. I can replenish the soil.
- 4:05I can put all the hay with the chicken poop in there, and I can
- 4:08let that break down. And it's going to make the soil
- 4:11richer and better for what I'm going to do in the spring.
- 4:14And this is the kind of stuff that we have to think about for
- 4:17ourselves and our head, you know, doing the fall cleaning in
- 4:21your surroundings, doing the fall cleaning in your head.
- 4:23What are the things that annoy you?
- 4:25What are the things that get in your way?
- 4:27What are the things that you truly?
- 4:31You know, have issue with when it comes down to, you know,
- 4:35getting out of your own way. Well, let's fix it.
- 4:37Let's change it. What hangs you up?
- 4:39You know, one of my clients told me the other day that she, she
- 4:42hates tax time and she always puts it off till the fall and
- 4:45then she has to do it in the fall in a hurry.
- 4:47And I said, well, why don't we try to set it up so that you can
- 4:50do some every single month And she's like, no, I've tried.
- 4:52It doesn't work. Well, why doesn't it work?
- 4:54Well, it doesn't work because I just don't like to do it.
- 4:57And we started laughing and I'm like, OK, but it still could
- 4:59work. Yes, technically it could work.
- 5:01Work, but I don't like doing it. And that's where it comes down
- 5:04to, well, let's figure out ways that we could like to do things.
- 5:07Let's figure out little rewards that we can give ourselves.
- 5:10Let's say if I get to this point, then I get to do this and
- 5:13then it's like rewarding yourself for stuff.
- 5:16So for me, if I like, I know my reward isn't seeing those
- 5:20vegetables and those flowers grow like crazy, so I will.
- 5:23Bless my butt right now to make sure that in the spring it's
- 5:26going to be better. So think about that piece, think
- 5:29about your fall cleaning, what has to happen, What do you need
- 5:32to do? And get yourself to work on it.
- 5:35All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:37see you tomorrow. Bye.
