Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: No one has all the answers, but when we ask
- 0:04Speaker 1: the right questions, we get a little closer, closer to truths,
- 0:10Speaker 1: closer to each other, even closer to ourselves. I'm journalist
- 0:15Speaker 1: Danielle Robe, and each week, my guests and I come
- 0:17Speaker 1: together to challenge the status quo and our own ways
- 0:21Speaker 1: of thinking by daring to ask what if, why not?
- 0:26Speaker 1: And who says?
- 0:29Speaker 2: So?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Come curious, dig deep, and join the conversation. It's time
- 0:34Speaker 1: to question everything. I'm so embarrassed to tell you why
- 0:41Speaker 1: there hasn't been a podcast for the last two weeks.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I have been in furniture hell, and I say hell
- 0:48Speaker 1: because this design stuff is not for me. I see
- 0:55Speaker 1: my mom, she gets so happy, and even my friends.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I have a lot of girlfriends that get so happy
- 1:01Speaker 1: picking out the furniture, and then when it comes to
- 1:04Speaker 1: all together, like they look at the couch, or they
- 1:06Speaker 1: look at the coffee table and they're like wow, like
- 1:08Speaker 1: that's gorgeous, and I did that.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I am so annoyed.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I have been buying and returning furniture and things look
- 1:19Speaker 1: different in photos online than they do in person, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: I don't want to go to the store and I
- 1:26Speaker 1: don't care about buying stone, dishes and things to decorate
- 1:31Speaker 1: the credenza with.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Am I alone here.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I feel like I'm on an island because everyone I
- 1:37Speaker 1: know enjoys this stuff and is good at it, and
- 1:41Speaker 1: that is just not me. So that's why there hasn't
- 1:45Speaker 1: been a podcast. I have been dealing with furniture. I
- 1:48Speaker 1: basically I promised myself. You guys know, I had a
- 1:51Speaker 1: flood and had to move into temporary housing, and I
- 1:56Speaker 1: basically promised myself that I would have a decoration apartment
- 2:01Speaker 1: by the end of April. I just couldn't live in
- 2:05Speaker 1: the chaos of it all anymore. I wish I could
- 2:08Speaker 1: show you photos of what things look like right now.
- 2:11Speaker 1: For anybody who thinks that I have my life together
- 2:13Speaker 1: on Instagram, they should really come see the podcast studio
- 2:16Speaker 1: of my apartment. Okay, today's a really good episode, and
- 2:20Speaker 1: I think it'll be worth the wait. Actually I know
- 2:23Speaker 1: it will be, And it's actually very timely because she
- 2:26Speaker 1: just made a lot of news Coachella Weekend. For a
- 2:30Speaker 1: long time, Karucci Tran was known in the media as
- 2:33Speaker 1: someone's ex, a plus one, a name and a headline.
- 2:38Speaker 1: She didn't even speak out much. She didn't defend herself loudly.
- 2:42Speaker 1: She just stayed the course gracefully, and then she started
- 2:46Speaker 1: building brick by brick. In the years since, Krucci has
- 2:54Speaker 1: quietly and powerfully built a career that she wants dreamed of.
- 2:59Speaker 1: She's an Emmy winning actress, a beauty entrepreneur, a jewelry designer,
- 3:03Speaker 1: and honestly, at her core, she's just still the girl
- 3:06Speaker 1: from La who likes her house tidy and her heart socked.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I try to be as positive as I can. I'm
- 3:13Speaker 2: not perfect. I'm a work in progress.
- 3:16Speaker 1: When people told her to write a tell all, she didn't.
- 3:20Speaker 1: When Reality TV called, she declined. Instead, she focused on
- 3:24Speaker 1: her crap, acting, her skincare, her peace, her people. She
- 3:29Speaker 1: told me she likes incense every morning for her father
- 3:32Speaker 1: and her grandfather who have passed, That she dreams of
- 3:36Speaker 1: living on an island one day, eating fresh fruit and
- 3:38Speaker 1: growing her vegetables. That she loves a good cryo tool
- 3:42Speaker 1: and an even better cup of coffee.
- 3:44Speaker 2: So I think I just stayed true to who are
- 3:48Speaker 2: I the girl from La, you know, and just kind
- 3:52Speaker 2: of stuck with that and just went with my thought.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I do like that I can be graceful and I
- 4:01Speaker 2: can take the high road. Always maintained my integrity.
- 4:07Speaker 1: She booked roles, she took acting classes, faced rejection, some
- 4:11Speaker 1: more rejection, healed, auditioned again. She launched a jewelry line
- 4:16Speaker 1: inspired by her Vietnamese heritage and La roots, and now
- 4:20Speaker 1: Roucci Beauty, which is available on Amazon for the very
- 4:24Speaker 1: first time. And it's a brand rooted in story and
- 4:26Speaker 1: integrity and real self care, all things she cares about.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And now for Emmy's a beauty brand and a full
- 4:33Speaker 1: life later. Carucci is living proof that you don't have
- 4:37Speaker 1: to shout to be seen.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I miss out on a lot of big money grab opportunities,
- 4:42Speaker 2: but it didn't feel right. And there's so much power
- 4:46Speaker 2: in that, right, because the easy thing to do is
- 4:48Speaker 2: to clap back, to cash in, to turn your Instagram
- 4:51Speaker 2: feed into a park bench and let the world tell
- 4:53Speaker 2: your story for you, or I don't know, trade your
- 4:56Speaker 2: pain and for press. But no matter what.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Was thrown her, Carucci, she just kept it cute. She
- 5:03Speaker 1: took the long road, the high road. And you know
- 5:05Speaker 1: what's funny is I was preparing for this conversation. There
- 5:07Speaker 1: were so many articles written about her as Chris Brown's
- 5:11Speaker 1: ex the restraining order of it. All those articles have
- 5:16Speaker 1: not been buried by Google, even by all of her accomplishments.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But the real story, the story I heard from her
- 5:23Speaker 1: and felt from her as she sat across from me,
- 5:27Speaker 1: was that Carucci's always been her own main character. She
- 5:30Speaker 1: just kind of happened to rewrite the narrative in real time.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So who is Carucci today? Well, she's definitely looking at
- 5:38Speaker 1: dating differently.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I have to go through that rollocoster to see what
- 5:42Speaker 2: you are willing to are and aren't willing to deal with.
- 5:46Speaker 1: She's also thinking about what she wants her life to
- 5:48Speaker 1: look like in the next five years.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Do I want to be a forty year old first
- 5:53Speaker 2: time mom? I don't know. I'm trying to let go
- 5:56Speaker 2: of like what I think it should be. They let
- 5:58Speaker 2: go of that structure and just lead into being present.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Maybe you know, God's like, you don't need a man
- 6:06Speaker 2: or a man. It's not for you, and maybe that's
- 6:08Speaker 2: what it is.
- 6:09Speaker 1: So the big question we're circling in this episode is
- 6:13Speaker 1: can grace be your superpower even in a world that
- 6:16Speaker 1: rewards the opposite. I guess we'll find out. It's time
- 6:21Speaker 1: to question everything with Kuruci Tran. So I feel like
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's so good to be Cruci right now. And I
- 6:30Speaker 1: know that's like the weirdest, most journalistic things to say,
- 6:34Speaker 1: but it really is, like, how do you feel being
- 6:37Speaker 1: an Emmy winner?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Nuts like in a good way, because I I kind
- 6:42Speaker 2: of forget sometimes. Yeah, is it weird that, like how
- 6:46Speaker 2: do other people do this? Do they like not think
- 6:47Speaker 2: about their accomplishments all the time, you know what I mean.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So it's like sometimes when I do interviews or when
- 6:52Speaker 2: I see people and they bring it up, I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 2: I do, I am. I do have four AM Like
- 6:57Speaker 2: that's crazy and such like a great way to tell
- 7:06Speaker 2: my journey and my story and it's a blessing.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I feel like I need like a flow chart to
- 7:12Speaker 1: keep up with you. I just want a stylist, Emmy
- 7:16Speaker 1: winning actress, beauty entrepreneur, jewelry design.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You are really doing all of the things. Thank you.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I'm just trying to like live life and exceed all
- 7:28Speaker 2: opportunities in the most authentic way possible, trying to just
- 7:34Speaker 2: do what's near and dear to my heart and have fun.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Like That's what I'm learning most about life right now.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It was like, have fun try new things. If it
- 7:43Speaker 2: works amazing. If it doesn't, it's okay. I'm so blessed
- 7:46Speaker 2: to sit in a place where I can have this
- 7:49Speaker 2: platform where I am able to do all these things,
- 7:53Speaker 2: you know.
- 7:53Speaker 1: But there was something I recognized when I was like
- 7:56Speaker 1: doing all my research, and it's that you did not
- 7:59Speaker 1: come from a Hollywood family. You didn't have formal acting training,
- 8:04Speaker 1: like an acting background, and yet here you are sitting
- 8:09Speaker 1: on all of these accomplishments. Do you feel like you
- 8:12Speaker 1: still have.
- 8:13Speaker 2: More to prove or have you already won? I kind
- 8:17Speaker 2: of feel like once I did Clause, that was kind
- 8:22Speaker 2: of like my stamp of approval or however you want
- 8:27Speaker 2: to say, Like that's what people really took me serious,
- 8:30Speaker 2: which felt great because before Clause I had done so
- 8:32Speaker 2: many other things low budget or indie, you know, and
- 8:37Speaker 2: so even STI to this day, people you know, talk
- 8:40Speaker 2: about Clause. Why do you think that is? I think
- 8:43Speaker 2: because it was on such a big network and so
- 8:46Speaker 2: people work, and because before everything was kind of little
- 8:49Speaker 2: budget or independent or not on a such a big platform,
- 8:53Speaker 2: and because it was on T and T and TNT
- 8:57Speaker 2: is amazing they have the budget to one. It was
- 9:01Speaker 2: such a just a great show. But also I think
- 9:05Speaker 2: visually people saw I mean, we had a freaking billboard
- 9:08Speaker 2: on Sunset, like the big one that's across the street
- 9:11Speaker 2: from Soho House, and seeing that and also in Times Square.
- 9:15Speaker 2: One time I was in New York and I went
- 9:16Speaker 2: to go see our billboard Time Square. I was like,
- 9:19Speaker 2: what is a life? Like such a moment crazy, like
- 9:24Speaker 2: just you know, and just such a blessing.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I felt like, I think you've been underestimated
- 9:33Speaker 1: throughout your career. Do you think that there have been
- 9:36Speaker 1: misconceptions about you early on?
- 9:38Speaker 2: For sure? Because you know, a lot of people saw
- 9:42Speaker 2: me in the media for certain things. So when you
- 9:46Speaker 2: become associated with that not look but just that that
- 9:51Speaker 2: title or that type of messaging and not knowing me
- 9:55Speaker 2: from before, then it's you're that's what I become. And
- 10:00Speaker 2: so when I try to, you know, transition over, it's
- 10:04Speaker 2: like does she have what it takes? Is she just
- 10:07Speaker 2: using her platform? Is she you know? You know, because
- 10:11Speaker 2: I don't come from a Hollywood family or you know,
- 10:15Speaker 2: pro training as far as being an actor, they're kind
- 10:19Speaker 2: of like, you know, unsure, which is like I get it,
- 10:21Speaker 2: you know, but I did work hard to make my
- 10:25Speaker 2: way up and you know, took lots of acting classes
- 10:28Speaker 2: and media training classes and you know, really took the
- 10:32Speaker 2: time to just focus and be like this is what
- 10:35Speaker 2: I want to do and I'm going to do it.
- 10:37Speaker 2: And it's hard because this business, which I'm sure you know,
- 10:40Speaker 2: is tough, like being told no all the time, being disappointed,
- 10:46Speaker 2: being let down, or thinking you killed an audition and
- 10:50Speaker 2: it's like you don't get it. The craziest thing to
- 10:54Speaker 2: me is like there's two types of ways like auditions go.
- 10:56Speaker 2: It was like you think you killed it, you don't
- 10:58Speaker 2: get it, you don't hear anything. Then when you think
- 11:00Speaker 2: you did crappy or like terrible, that's when you book it.
- 11:04Speaker 2: So it's like it's such a hard thing to grasp of,
- 11:07Speaker 2: like am I doing okay? Am I doing good? Or
- 11:10Speaker 2: am I not?
- 11:11Speaker 1: You know, it's life though, Like audition wise changed for
- 11:14Speaker 1: you after some of the success you have, or are
- 11:17Speaker 1: you still like going in and auditioning for every role?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Both Some deals are offers where I don't have to audition,
- 11:24Speaker 2: but I'm very much still auditioning and still doing seft tapes.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I love that you have that hustle in you.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean, it is what it is. I
- 11:34Speaker 2: can't and this may be why I forget about my
- 11:36Speaker 2: Emmy's because I can't sit here and say, oh, I
- 11:38Speaker 2: have Emmy. So I'm not going to audition, Like let's
- 11:41Speaker 2: be real, you know what I mean? Like, no, that's
- 11:45Speaker 2: I know the name of the game, and that's just
- 11:48Speaker 2: kind of what it is. And I want to continue
- 11:50Speaker 2: this career and I'm very still passionate about it, and
- 11:55Speaker 2: if I have to sell tape an audition, that's what
- 11:57Speaker 2: I gotta do. So I'm gonna do it.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Do you feel like you've been strategic about your career
- 12:04Speaker 1: or you just like a leap and look at like
- 12:07Speaker 1: almost like are you a look before you leap person
- 12:09Speaker 1: or just a leap and then figure it out later.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Both because I like structure and I want to be
- 12:17Speaker 2: able to be prepared and to know what's coming. And
- 12:23Speaker 2: like usually I'll ask my team like what is she
- 12:25Speaker 2: going to ask me? What are the questions? D da
- 12:27Speaker 2: da da? But I'm like let that go because I'm like,
- 12:31Speaker 2: sometimes you just gotta you just gotta live your life
- 12:33Speaker 2: and be prepared and just whatever happens happened, you know,
- 12:36Speaker 2: I gotta like kind of get out of my mind
- 12:38Speaker 2: when it comes to that, you live and you learn,
- 12:41Speaker 2: and I'm learning to just take a deep breath and
- 12:44Speaker 2: just let go because again, I like so much structure,
- 12:49Speaker 2: and I kind of sometimes get stuck into whatever I
- 12:53Speaker 2: thought was whatever was supposed to be.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So tell me more about that, Like what do you
- 12:59Speaker 1: mean when you say, like, oh, is that something.
- 13:01Speaker 2: You're actively working on? Because you're anxious, because like what
- 13:04Speaker 2: is the what's the opposite? I think, just trying not
- 13:11Speaker 2: to box myself into again, whatever it might be an
- 13:18Speaker 2: interview or a scene, Like if you gave me your
- 13:22Speaker 2: questions today, I would have prepared for that and I
- 13:24Speaker 2: would have been like reciting what I already thought about
- 13:31Speaker 2: instead of being present. Do you know what I'm saying?
- 13:35Speaker 2: And then I and then my mind gets distracted, so
- 13:38Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, she just asked me. Okay, so her
- 13:39Speaker 2: next question is going to be, so how was it?
- 13:42Speaker 2: You know what I mean? So it's like I am
- 13:44Speaker 2: trying to let go of that. And so maybe it's
- 13:46Speaker 2: more so just trying to be more present and not
- 13:52Speaker 2: have too much control where I can't always have control.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I guess that makes the like I feel like something
- 14:00Speaker 1: in your life sparked a shift or is it just
- 14:04Speaker 1: like a gradual you've been in the business, you've been
- 14:07Speaker 1: doing it.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I think just from being in the business and learning
- 14:12Speaker 2: to let go of control. Like for example, when I'm
- 14:15Speaker 2: on set and I you know, it's study for it
- 14:17Speaker 2: a see in a certain way, and I've had to
- 14:19Speaker 2: be like, oh, shoot, i gotta like figure this out
- 14:22Speaker 2: in like thirty seconds because we're about to roll, you know.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So I think just trial and tribulation, just learning, Like
- 14:29Speaker 2: I could be stuck in my ways and just be
- 14:32Speaker 2: like that, or I can take it for what it
- 14:34Speaker 2: is and just grow and then be prepared for when
- 14:38Speaker 2: it happens, because it's gonna happen. Yeah, that's the point.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So are you still the friend that everybody texts in
- 14:46Speaker 1: like an emergency for their outfit, because like, I know,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you're not actively styling, but like if we knew each other,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you'd be my first text. My title in our group
- 14:57Speaker 1: is like the resident stylist.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And like the girls will come over like I'm just like, okay,
- 15:03Speaker 2: what else, what other options do you have? Come over?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Like I might have this or the like, yeah, I'm
- 15:09Speaker 2: the resident stylist.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So but even still very graceful about telling them the
- 15:13Speaker 1: fit is horrible, yeah, cause I won't be rude.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Oh my girl, the just just what other what other options?
- 15:21Speaker 2: What else do you have? That's like the nice way,
- 15:24Speaker 2: And they do it to me sometimes too. No, I'm oh, absolutely,
- 15:27Speaker 2: but you yeah, but sometimes you need a second opinion.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Or sometimes I don't know. So if I'm going to
- 15:33Speaker 2: any events or if we're going somewhere right and I
- 15:36Speaker 2: have a couple options to take photos and I say
- 15:38Speaker 2: which one, They'll all have their own opinion on what
- 15:41Speaker 2: it is. And sometimes I tell me what other options
- 15:43Speaker 2: do you have? What else do you have? And I'm like, okay,
- 15:47Speaker 2: back to the drawing boy.
- 15:49Speaker 1: You know, it's so funny if somebody, like I always
- 15:51Speaker 1: think if somebody found my phone, they would never see
- 15:54Speaker 1: me like sexting a guy. They would see me like
- 15:56Speaker 1: half shirtless, like be texting my best friend, like do
- 15:59Speaker 1: these hants look okay?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah? No, same, and all of a sudden photos like
- 16:03Speaker 2: my hair is like crazy and like it look at
- 16:06Speaker 2: a mess.
- 16:06Speaker 1: But it's what as girls too totally, I feel like,
- 16:11Speaker 1: because I know you're good friends with Christina Milion and
- 16:13Speaker 1: Sweetie and I've met both of them, and they are
- 16:17Speaker 1: so nice, Like you feel like you are friends with
- 16:20Speaker 1: nice people.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Is it like that you can sit with us crew? Yeah.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I think that's just like the energy that we share
- 16:29Speaker 2: as women. I know Christina a little more than Sweetie,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but I think it's just like in aura and energy,
- 16:39Speaker 2: we just like get each other. Yeah, and we have fun.
- 16:42Speaker 2: We share the same experiences as far as like dealing
- 16:45Speaker 2: with yes and drama and all that kind of stuff.
- 16:49Speaker 2: So we're just like minded and we're not mean girls.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You like hype each other up and stuff for sure.
- 16:56Speaker 2: For sure that's what you know, what friends and what
- 16:58Speaker 2: girls are supposed to do. I feel like compliments are
- 17:01Speaker 2: much better from girls than guys. It means more, you know.
- 17:06Speaker 1: In per Yeah, girls are they don't throw them out.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You know, like if I say something to another girl,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I mean it exactly and she knows you mean it too.
- 17:15Speaker 2: It's not like you're just saying like, oh you look,
- 17:16Speaker 2: you know, like you actually mean that.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I feel like gen Z is really good at it. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 1: Like they really hype each other up. I was at
- 17:24Speaker 1: a restaurant in Vegas. I was on a date and
- 17:27Speaker 1: this girl was like, she was so young and cute.
- 17:29Speaker 1: She must have been like twenty one. And she comes
- 17:32Speaker 1: over to the table and gives us our menus and
- 17:34Speaker 1: looks at me and she goes, you are so pretty.
- 17:37Speaker 1: But she did it in front of him, which was
- 17:39Speaker 1: so so, you know, like he needs to know, like
- 17:43Speaker 1: you look good.
- 17:44Speaker 2: You don't know the girls way like they're the best.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah, yeah, are we gen Z? I
- 17:52Speaker 2: don't know howege are? But what age group is gen Z?
- 17:55Speaker 1: They're young, We're millennial, millennial.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I'm thirty four, okay, so they're the generation after Yeah, okay,
- 18:00Speaker 2: they're right below us.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And then I think it's jen Al. I don't know
- 18:03Speaker 1: about them.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Can't keep up, cannot keep up. How important were girlfriends
- 18:11Speaker 2: in your life when you were really going through it?
- 18:15Speaker 2: Very important? The thing with me is I am very
- 18:20Speaker 2: private and personal. So even when I'm going through something,
- 18:24Speaker 2: sometimes they don't even know because I just like deal
- 18:27Speaker 2: with it on my own. But like the major shifts
- 18:31Speaker 2: in my life, I did have a lot of my
- 18:33Speaker 2: girlfriends around to help me and support me, and they
- 18:37Speaker 2: kind of understand me too and how I am. So
- 18:40Speaker 2: it's more so like maybe just like physically being there
- 18:44Speaker 2: and maybe like we're not talking about it or maybe
- 18:47Speaker 2: like in that moment, but they know you know when
- 18:52Speaker 2: to show up for me and what I need support.
- 18:55Speaker 2: And I feel like as we're growing, we're all learning
- 18:57Speaker 2: each other and what we all need separately, you know.
- 19:01Speaker 2: So having real supportive girlfriends is so important. And I'm
- 19:09Speaker 2: lucky that I have friends from like my closest friends
- 19:12Speaker 2: are from high school in middle school, so we've all
- 19:17Speaker 2: grown together and have seen each other mature over the years,
- 19:22Speaker 2: and we've learned how each other is. So it's just
- 19:25Speaker 2: nice and refreshing. And anytime I tell people like, you know,
- 19:28Speaker 2: some of my girlfriends are from high school in middle school,
- 19:30Speaker 2: they're like, what, that's crazy. And I never really unders
- 19:35Speaker 2: or realized that people didn't have those same type of
- 19:39Speaker 2: lasting relationships or friendships.
- 19:42Speaker 1: They watched that a Young Love video and I was
- 19:44Speaker 1: reading that afterwards you were like I couldn't get out
- 19:46Speaker 1: of my bed, Like I just wanted to shut out
- 19:48Speaker 1: the world. Yeah, what's the nine one one called to
- 19:52Speaker 1: the girlfriends like, are you like just come lay with
- 19:54Speaker 1: me in my bed?
- 19:55Speaker 2: I need food? Like what do you need? In those moments,
- 19:58Speaker 2: the nine to one one call probably silence, which they
- 20:02Speaker 2: probably recognize and because I also don't like to ask
- 20:09Speaker 2: for help or anything like that, because I think I
- 20:12Speaker 2: could do everything on my own, even I can't. So again,
- 20:16Speaker 2: it's just like pulling up and them just physically being there,
- 20:21Speaker 2: whether it's laying in bed, laying on my couch, probably
- 20:24Speaker 2: bringing me food and like smoothies and coconut waters and
- 20:29Speaker 2: all the things that I'm probably not even worried about
- 20:31Speaker 2: or focused on.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Maybe I'm projecting, but I feel like because I'm thirty
- 20:35Speaker 1: four and not married, not in a relationship, yeah, and
- 20:38Speaker 1: I feel like one of the huge gifts of it
- 20:40Speaker 1: is like I've really been able to cultivate these friendships,
- 20:43Speaker 1: Like I have so much time to pour into my
- 20:44Speaker 1: girlfriends and vice versa.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Do you feel that, Yeah. I think about how life
- 20:51Speaker 2: would be so different if I was married and if
- 20:55Speaker 2: I had kids. I wouldn't be able to me, wouldn't
- 20:58Speaker 2: be it. It's like, oh, let's go to dinner tonight.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I like, let's get some drinks and have food and calling,
- 21:03Speaker 2: you know, like it would just be so different. And
- 21:05Speaker 2: because of that, because I have that freedom, I'm able
- 21:08Speaker 2: to do more with them, even if it's just like
- 21:12Speaker 2: come over my house and I'll cook, let's just hang out.
- 21:15Speaker 2: It's different when you have a man in the house
- 21:20Speaker 2: or you have kids. It might not be you know,
- 21:22Speaker 2: as free or as fun, or we're not you know,
- 21:26Speaker 2: maybe we're not gonna be able to have the same
- 21:28Speaker 2: girl talk that we wouldn't be able to have if
- 21:31Speaker 2: a man was there. You know. They require a lot
- 21:34Speaker 2: of attention. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe I fat
- 21:38Speaker 2: like when I do get married, my husband needs to
- 21:41Speaker 2: have a man cave. So it's like, because I like space, you.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Need like your own glamor room, and they need a man.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Absolutely, do your thing. I'll do my thing. You want
- 21:49Speaker 2: to get married, I do. Yeah, I sound hesitant because like,
- 21:56Speaker 2: for me, what's most important is like the foundation and
- 22:03Speaker 2: the connection and the relationship. I feel like growing up
- 22:08Speaker 2: society is like this big thing about weddings and getting married,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and like I really feel it's just like piece of
- 22:17Speaker 2: paper in a sense, you know what I mean, in
- 22:20Speaker 2: some form. So it's like the little Disney girl in
- 22:26Speaker 2: me wants to have a wedding because like we all
- 22:29Speaker 2: grow up wanting this beautiful wedding, right, But what does
- 22:32Speaker 2: all that mean if it's not the right person or
- 22:36Speaker 2: you're not happy you know, so like my main focus
- 22:39Speaker 2: isn't like I need to get married. That's okay, So
- 22:41Speaker 2: I would have got married a lot time. It's easy
- 22:44Speaker 2: to find. It's easy to find somebody, you know, especially
- 22:48Speaker 2: for you. Yeah you could have, but just you know,
- 22:55Speaker 2: and it's it's important for me to have the right person.
- 22:59Speaker 2: So I think right now, what's important is finding the
- 23:04Speaker 2: right person first.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Do you ever feel time pressure?
- 23:08Speaker 2: Well, yeah, girl, this this clock is ticking. So it's like,
- 23:13Speaker 2: but what is age? What is time? You know? And
- 23:16Speaker 2: it's again that's like society standards of a house with
- 23:21Speaker 2: the green grass and the white pick of fence and
- 23:23Speaker 2: the dog and the two kids, and you know, it's
- 23:25Speaker 2: like so we think it's supposed to look a certain way.
- 23:29Speaker 2: So I'm trying to tap out of that because every
- 23:31Speaker 2: time I tell people like I want kids, I'm thirty
- 23:34Speaker 2: six and my biological clock is sticking. It's that other
- 23:38Speaker 2: like you're still young, and women now from when I've
- 23:41Speaker 2: kind of read, they're having babies older, so it's still doable.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Like it's fine, like women are having kids in their forties. Yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 2: do I want to be a forty year old first
- 23:52Speaker 2: time mom? I don't know but I don't. You know, again,
- 23:56Speaker 2: I'm trying to let go of like what I think
- 23:59Speaker 2: it should be, and let go of that.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Structure and just lead into being present.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Maybe you know, God's like you don't need a man,
- 24:08Speaker 2: or a man is not for you, And maybe that's
- 24:10Speaker 2: what it is, because like I'm very content with being
- 24:14Speaker 2: like in my own space. Yeah, you know, I want
- 24:17Speaker 2: to live on an island when I get older and
- 24:19Speaker 2: like have a garden and grow on my own. Where
- 24:21Speaker 2: are we go in Jamaica? Jamaica would be nice, Jamaica,
- 24:25Speaker 2: Costa Rica, Belize. A lot of people are talking about Portugal,
- 24:30Speaker 2: but Portugal is like far. I kind of still want
- 24:32Speaker 2: to be close enough to hear to the States. So
- 24:36Speaker 2: I have to find somebody that aligns with that idea too,
- 24:40Speaker 2: of wanting.
- 24:41Speaker 1: That's interesting because I think so few people ask that
- 24:44Speaker 1: question on dates, Like nobody asks like what does ideal
- 24:47Speaker 1: retirement look like? Because we don't think you know, in
- 24:50Speaker 1: forty years. But that's a big deal, yeah, because what
- 24:52Speaker 1: do you seek as happiness? So what do you foresee
- 24:57Speaker 1: to be happiness for you?
- 24:58Speaker 2: And like I see myself being on an island, paking
- 25:05Speaker 2: my fruits and veggies and making ceramics and caruci. I know,
- 25:12Speaker 2: like the real meat is so chill, no idea and
- 25:17Speaker 2: basic and like one with nature. You're kind of a
- 25:22Speaker 2: hippie a little bit. Yeah, like a modern day is hippie.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I guess do you late incense? I like incense every
- 25:29Speaker 2: morning because in the Vietnamese culture you like incense for
- 25:32Speaker 2: girls have passed before my dad and my grandpa. I
- 25:35Speaker 2: light and says in the morning, I don't love thank you.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I don't love incense in the house because it messes
- 25:41Speaker 2: up my allergies. As you can hear, I'm already congested,
- 25:44Speaker 2: and then I start sneezing like crazy, and it's just
- 25:46Speaker 2: like too much.
- 25:48Speaker 1: You've had a lot of career pivots, and in La
- 25:51Speaker 1: they call people slashers, where it's like actress slash, business
- 25:55Speaker 1: owners slash and a lot of people can't do it
- 25:58Speaker 1: well because they can't focus and they try a million
- 26:00Speaker 1: things and nothing works. You seem to try a lot
- 26:04Speaker 1: of things and a lot of things work. And I
- 26:06Speaker 1: don't mean to say that to like blow smoke up
- 26:08Speaker 1: your ass. I'm genuinely curious, how, like, what's the method
- 26:12Speaker 1: to the madness?
- 26:16Speaker 2: Well, some things have worked better than others. Somethings didn't
- 26:19Speaker 2: work quite well at all. But I think what's important.
- 26:26Speaker 2: What I've learned to be important and to be successful
- 26:31Speaker 2: is staying true and genuine and authentic to you. So
- 26:36Speaker 2: when I did my jewelry collection, the first two collections
- 26:40Speaker 2: I based off my Vietnamese heritage and my Black La
- 26:43Speaker 2: culture upbringing. I guess you should, I could say. So.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The Vietnamese collection had like jade pieces because Jada is
- 26:50Speaker 2: very big in the Vietnamese community. And then the other collection,
- 26:54Speaker 2: we did a lot of like La nineties type pieces,
- 27:00Speaker 2: and those are the collections that did the best because
- 27:03Speaker 2: I portrayed that image and I told that story. And
- 27:08Speaker 2: Estevan Oriol he's like a freaking iconic LA photographer. He's
- 27:14Speaker 2: the one that did you know this this original photo,
- 27:17Speaker 2: He's the one that took that photo. Wow. Yeah. And
- 27:20Speaker 2: so he blessed me and shot the collection, the LA collection,
- 27:23Speaker 2: And that was a part of the plan too, because
- 27:26Speaker 2: if I'm going to do an LA collection, I got
- 27:27Speaker 2: to get somebody that you know what I mean, Like
- 27:30Speaker 2: this phono right here is so like crazy. Anybody knows
- 27:33Speaker 2: that photo, you know, especially you being from La. Really
- 27:37Speaker 2: like it means something exactly exactly. So doing things like
- 27:41Speaker 2: that where it comes from the heart and it's really you,
- 27:46Speaker 2: and it's not just me slapping my name on some
- 27:51Speaker 2: pieces just because this brand, you know, wanted to collab
- 27:56Speaker 2: or whatever. And now here we have this random collection,
- 27:59Speaker 2: you know, even with Roucci Beauty, which I just launched
- 28:02Speaker 2: in December, that collection, the pieces, the tools that we
- 28:07Speaker 2: started with all come from a personal story of mine.
- 28:12Speaker 2: And there are tools that I've created because they help
- 28:17Speaker 2: different things that I've always struggled with, like your personal
- 28:21Speaker 2: pain points. Yeah. So like that cryo tool, which is
- 28:24Speaker 2: like an ice tool. I grew up putting spoons in
- 28:28Speaker 2: the freezer. I'm like put them under my like the
- 28:31Speaker 2: old classic white put them under my eyes. Or if
- 28:34Speaker 2: I'm prepping for a set or a photo shoot or something,
- 28:37Speaker 2: I would get an ice cube and rub it on
- 28:39Speaker 2: my face to just kind of like wake my face up,
- 28:43Speaker 2: tighten up my face, tighten up my porest, kind of
- 28:45Speaker 2: sculpt it a little bit. Yeah, or I do like
- 28:48Speaker 2: ice face beats. So I was like, I want to
- 28:52Speaker 2: as I was thinking about, because beauty is something that
- 28:54Speaker 2: I've like loved and I've grown on this journey, my journey,
- 28:59Speaker 2: I've e it's grown so much, and so I was like,
- 29:02Speaker 2: I need to do a cry come. I'm always talking about,
- 29:04Speaker 2: like or showing on Instagram. I'm like that I'm doing
- 29:07Speaker 2: this icing. I'm like, I need to create something for that.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm curious about your beauty journey. What do you
- 29:13Speaker 1: mean by that?
- 29:14Speaker 2: I say that because I didn't know anything about beauty
- 29:18Speaker 2: fifteen twelve years ago. I don't know how to do
- 29:22Speaker 2: my makeup now. I am so picky with makeup because
- 29:26Speaker 2: I've had that experience trial and tribulation where somebody done
- 29:30Speaker 2: my makeup and then they did a wingliner and it
- 29:32Speaker 2: was too much. And at the time I didn't realize.
- 29:35Speaker 2: But looking back at the photo, it's not the worst.
- 29:39Speaker 1: They're like, why do you make me look You're supposed
- 29:41Speaker 1: to be the professional expert.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Yeah, on set, do whatever you want because I'm that character.
- 29:46Speaker 2: But if it's me Carucci, I'm like, I have my
- 29:48Speaker 2: things I don't like. I don't like highlighter on my
- 29:51Speaker 2: face because highlighter washes me out. I in my opinion,
- 29:57Speaker 2: it does. I like to be contour. They're like more
- 30:01Speaker 2: so defined, so I don't like highlighter here. I don't
- 30:04Speaker 2: like a lot of shimmer on the eyes. I rarely
- 30:06Speaker 2: want to do like a glittery shimmery moment because I
- 30:11Speaker 2: just don't like the way it looks. I like Max.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I like my makeup to kind of accentuate my eyes
- 30:17Speaker 2: this way. I don't like when the shadow is up
- 30:19Speaker 2: here because it just doesn't look right. I don't like
- 30:23Speaker 2: a big lash. It closes my eyes, it's too heavy,
- 30:26Speaker 2: because I've had that experience before. So I am very
- 30:30Speaker 2: picky with Mike Lamb.
- 30:33Speaker 1: But you have an aesthetic, and so I get why
- 30:35Speaker 1: you're picky. I actually think that people like a lot
- 30:38Speaker 1: of times in our age range credit Hayley Bieber with
- 30:42Speaker 1: like the soft glam look. You were the original you
- 30:46Speaker 1: did the soft glam. I feel like you need to
- 30:48Speaker 1: get more credit for that.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Oh thank you. I have no makeup make up? Yeah, yeah,
- 30:53Speaker 2: because it's I think what works best for me and
- 30:57Speaker 2: it's what I like. I just like to accentuate my
- 31:01Speaker 2: face and not do too much or go too heavy.
- 31:04Speaker 1: So tell me more about your beauty journey. What do
- 31:06Speaker 1: you mean by that?
- 31:07Speaker 2: So also, outside of like makeup, I've learned so much
- 31:11Speaker 2: about my skin because my skin is my money maker.
- 31:17Speaker 2: And when you're on set all day and you're wearing
- 31:20Speaker 2: a full face of makeup, you got to take care
- 31:22Speaker 2: of it, you know. So I've had two lots of
- 31:27Speaker 2: trial and tribulation of trying to figure out what works
- 31:31Speaker 2: best for my skin. And I know my skin now.
- 31:34Speaker 2: That's like I always believe that if we listen to
- 31:37Speaker 2: our bodies, our bodies will always tell us what it needs.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So my skin to get a little oily. So sometimes
- 31:45Speaker 2: I'm like, Okay, I need a primer, I need this,
- 31:47Speaker 2: I like this type of setting powder. Anything. Any skincare
- 31:51Speaker 2: product with vitamin C don't love because it's too harsh.
- 31:54Speaker 1: It breaks me out. Did you deal with any acne?
- 31:58Speaker 1: Was that part of no?
- 32:00Speaker 2: I was blessed, I will, It's half of my skincare.
- 32:04Speaker 2: My skin is because I was blessed with good grape genes.
- 32:07Speaker 2: I shout out to my mom and dad. But I
- 32:09Speaker 2: also do take care of my skin. Again, because my
- 32:13Speaker 2: face is always on camera, and so I got to
- 32:16Speaker 2: take care of it. And once I started to realize,
- 32:21Speaker 2: once I started to get into products, it was just
- 32:24Speaker 2: a snowball effect of like, oh my gosh, serums and
- 32:27Speaker 2: skin boosters, essence moisturizers, ee creams, eye patches. I love
- 32:33Speaker 2: an eye patch. That's what I want to do in
- 32:35Speaker 2: my collection too. At some point I do eye patches because.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I'm used to those. I love eye patches the.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Same, and I'm like, when I'm tired, I'm tired and
- 32:42Speaker 2: it shows. And that's another reason why I use the
- 32:44Speaker 2: ice cryod tool. But I love eye patches. I love
- 32:48Speaker 2: at home facials, like at home remedies like making a
- 32:53Speaker 2: yogurt and honey mask and there you go.
- 32:56Speaker 1: You're a hippie. Yeah, have you had them moment building
- 33:01Speaker 1: Ruccie that you felt like, whoa, this is harder than
- 33:03Speaker 1: I expected.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Yeah, just the whole process because the way you just
- 33:08Speaker 2: looked at me. Yeah, it's like you nobody sees anything
- 33:13Speaker 2: until it's just done and it's presented to the world.
- 33:16Speaker 2: But like it's been years that we've been working on this.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Finding the name of a brand is the hardest part
- 33:23Speaker 2: because that is the brand, and it's like that can
- 33:27Speaker 2: make or break, in my opinion, a brand. You know,
- 33:30Speaker 2: it's like how much attraction and intrigue does it have?
- 33:35Speaker 2: How long of a name? And we went through so
- 33:38Speaker 2: many different names, came up with Rouccie beauty rue obviously
- 33:45Speaker 2: coming from my name. Chi Chi is my Vietnamese name.
- 33:49Speaker 2: It also means energy, it does. Yeah, so again bringing
- 33:54Speaker 2: me into.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you've lived up to your name too.
- 33:59Speaker 2: That's so cool.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really cool. Think you So, I was looking
- 34:03Speaker 1: at the nanomister and your refreshed kit. Yes, it kind
- 34:07Speaker 1: of looks like something out of a sci fi movie.
- 34:10Speaker 1: But was there a moment where you were testing and
- 34:12Speaker 1: you were like, is this gonna work? Like? Is there
- 34:14Speaker 1: is there so much trial and error? Yeah, we went
- 34:17Speaker 1: through different models.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Some didn't work as well or like the part that
- 34:21Speaker 2: you slide down wasn't as easy. Some of them, the
- 34:26Speaker 2: mist didn't come out the right way. And that's why
- 34:28Speaker 2: I love the one that we have because the way
- 34:30Speaker 2: the mist is so powerful. But then also also like
- 34:34Speaker 2: really gets into your skin.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I feel like skincare feels like this exclusive club sometimes,
- 34:41Speaker 1: like there's actives and layering and slugging and words that
- 34:44Speaker 1: sometimes I don't even know what they mean. Is there
- 34:46Speaker 1: an underrated.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Beauty hack so to speak that you use that like,
- 34:51Speaker 2: isn't all over TikTok underrated beauty hack?
- 34:55Speaker 1: You think people should know about what do I do?
- 34:59Speaker 2: Well, they should use Richie Beauty, don't care what do
- 35:02Speaker 2: I do? I mean, I think, and this is probably
- 35:09Speaker 2: all over TikTok, but I think that something that people
- 35:11Speaker 2: should be doing is at home remedies. I love a
- 35:16Speaker 2: good product that is great for the skin. There's plenty
- 35:20Speaker 2: of om but people don't realize that there's so much
- 35:22Speaker 2: that you can just do at home. An avocado mask,
- 35:26Speaker 2: avocado and honey, like I said, yogurt and honey, oatmeal masks,
- 35:32Speaker 2: certain coffee masks you can do because on everybody can
- 35:35Speaker 2: afford certain things, you know, and besides that it's all natural,
- 35:42Speaker 2: and so I imagine you in the kitchen like baking out.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Alovara is really great that you can use for your
- 35:49Speaker 2: hair or your skin. Yeah, I think that's.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I saw that one of the pillars of the brand
- 35:55Speaker 1: is self care, and I know that's really important to
- 35:58Speaker 1: you outside of like skincare or remedies. Is there something
- 36:04Speaker 1: that you do that really feels like self care to you?
- 36:09Speaker 2: Every morning, I have a delicious cup of coffee. That's
- 36:15Speaker 2: my self care one of But like I I love coffee.
- 36:22Speaker 2: I just love the taste of it. It's just so
- 36:24Speaker 2: good and I love it in the morning, and I
- 36:27Speaker 2: love waking up, brushing my teeth, going downstairs and making
- 36:32Speaker 2: a cup of coffee and just like having my first
- 36:34Speaker 2: couple of SIPs. I don't know why. That just like
- 36:37Speaker 2: fulfills me in so many ways. And when I don't
- 36:40Speaker 2: get my coffee, I'm like, I need's sore at coffee.
- 36:43Speaker 2: But like, do you think about it at night? Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 2: like I'm gonna go to sleep, I'm gonna wake up,
- 36:47Speaker 2: but I'm gonna have some coffee. And one of my
- 36:50Speaker 2: other friends we like talked about this sometime. Her name
- 36:52Speaker 2: was jen Ly and she was on Claws. We She
- 36:54Speaker 2: just texted me the other day and she was like,
- 36:56Speaker 2: do you still love as love coffee as much as
- 36:58Speaker 2: I do? And I said yes, And she shares the
- 37:01Speaker 2: same sentiments. She just loves a good cup of coffee
- 37:03Speaker 2: in the morning.
- 37:04Speaker 1: You're part of a club of people who I'm the
- 37:06Speaker 1: same way. It's like I feel like almost like an indulgence,
- 37:10Speaker 1: Like I like love myself when I'm having coffee. Yeah,
- 37:13Speaker 1: it just feels totally feels.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Good when it wakes you up. Yeah.
- 37:18Speaker 1: You described your role on clause as the role that
- 37:20Speaker 1: made people take you seriously earlier. I think a lot
- 37:24Speaker 1: of times our personal lives and professional lives like rise together.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Like the more we grow personally, the more expansive our
- 37:31Speaker 1: careers become. And I feel like you hit this new
- 37:33Speaker 1: moment with Clause, and I'm kind of wondering what was
- 37:36Speaker 1: happening personally that you had this blossoming during Clause.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I didn't realize that was the moment
- 37:49Speaker 2: in the very beginning that people were going to start
- 37:52Speaker 2: taking me seriously until I did the first season and
- 37:55Speaker 2: people were saying it, you know what I mean. It
- 37:57Speaker 2: was like I booked in and was like, oh, this
- 38:00Speaker 2: is on T and T, people are gonna take me serious.
- 38:02Speaker 2: It wasn't like that for me. It was nuttil afterwards. Yeah,
- 38:05Speaker 2: and people were like, oh my god, like you do
- 38:07Speaker 2: like this is huge, like wow, and like people would
- 38:10Speaker 2: say like no offense, but like after you did this,
- 38:13Speaker 2: like wow, you're really serious about this, and I was like, oh,
- 38:16Speaker 2: I've been serious. But it's all the hard work, yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 2: And it's all perception, you know. Like while I was
- 38:24Speaker 2: filming Clause the first season, like I don't want to
- 38:29Speaker 2: say I was. I wasn't struggling. I was just in
- 38:33Speaker 2: the moment of being a part of such a huge
- 38:37Speaker 2: production with a huge network, having to work alongside Nassy Dash,
- 38:43Speaker 2: Jen Lyon, Carrie Preston, Julie Rayes, Harold Paranos, like my
- 38:50Speaker 2: TV boyfriend grew up watching I grew up watching him,
- 38:53Speaker 2: Like so it was just so like I just I
- 38:59Speaker 2: couldn't believe it. But then also like I was in
- 39:03Speaker 2: it to where like I was pushing myself, like get
- 39:06Speaker 2: it together, like make sure you're really tapped in because
- 39:11Speaker 2: the everybody else is like seasoned veterans a list, like
- 39:17Speaker 2: they're on they're just on their gage just because they're
- 39:20Speaker 2: fucking amazing, you know what I mean. I'm like I
- 39:23Speaker 2: got to make sure I'm right there with them, because
- 39:25Speaker 2: I'm I'm right there with the girls. It's five of us,
- 39:27Speaker 2: you know. And I didn't want to slack and be
- 39:30Speaker 2: the one that's like, oh she you know, she's like
- 39:33Speaker 2: the the one that doesn't really have it together whatever
- 39:36Speaker 2: it is, you know. I'm like I had to really
- 39:39Speaker 2: focus and really push myself. And did you change your
- 39:42Speaker 2: lifestyle at all? Were you like not going out not
- 39:46Speaker 2: like were you fully focused? Then No, I'm gonna be
- 39:50Speaker 2: completely honest, No, during during filming, yeah, I was focused. Yeah,
- 39:56Speaker 2: but outside stuff like afterwards, I wasn't. I was still
- 40:00Speaker 2: living my life. That's so good. I think now where
- 40:04Speaker 2: I am is where I'm finding like pulling back from
- 40:08Speaker 2: clubbing and just doing things that like I don't really
- 40:13Speaker 2: find as fun, like really tapping into my Auntie era
- 40:18Speaker 2: of just I told you I went out Sunday to
- 40:23Speaker 2: the Gold Party during Oscars weekend and it was a
- 40:27Speaker 2: five am night. And when you get older, it hits different.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I'm like, how did I used to
- 40:37Speaker 2: go out and for you know, to whatever time and
- 40:40Speaker 2: do this the next day? Like it's crazy and I
- 40:45Speaker 2: love my rest. Yeah, and so it's just different. It's
- 40:50Speaker 2: more so like let's maybe have dinner. I don't even
- 40:53Speaker 2: drink as much as I used to. You know, I
- 40:55Speaker 2: have dinner with the girls. They'll come over and get
- 40:58Speaker 2: on the couch, or I'll like cook book or you know,
- 41:00Speaker 2: order some food or whatever. But yeah, I'm just not
- 41:03Speaker 2: doing the same going out just because I'm like preserving
- 41:07Speaker 2: my energy.
- 41:09Speaker 1: I read that you almost quit acting.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I was before clause. So what was going on?
- 41:16Speaker 2: I wasn't booking much at all, and my agency at
- 41:21Speaker 2: the time, was like, what do you want to do?
- 41:25Speaker 2: This is you know, are you still passionate about this?
- 41:29Speaker 2: You know that's a brutal conversation. Oh gosh. I was
- 41:32Speaker 2: like help. And I listened to the you know, little
- 41:42Speaker 2: voice in the back of my head and I listened
- 41:43Speaker 2: to my heart and I was like, no, I still
- 41:47Speaker 2: I still want to do this. Something is telling me keep,
- 41:50Speaker 2: don't give up just yet. And I think that's when
- 41:52Speaker 2: I got even more involved in my acting classes and
- 41:57Speaker 2: everything and got probably a little more serious and focused,
- 42:01Speaker 2: and then I booked cloth.
- 42:03Speaker 1: That's so wild.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you must have felt like an exhale. Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 2: When I got the call that I booked that, I
- 42:12Speaker 2: was like, yes, m h, Like, I'm so glad that
- 42:16Speaker 2: I didn't give up and let any outside opinions or
- 42:25Speaker 2: whatever just kind of throw me off.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Were you practiced at that, because if I can be
- 42:33Speaker 1: really honest with you, I'm so struck by how you
- 42:40Speaker 1: were able to do you amiss all the noise, like
- 42:46Speaker 1: you said at one point.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Like I think the exact quote was that everyone thought
- 42:51Speaker 2: you were known as somebody's exa, but you fully stepped
- 42:55Speaker 2: out onto your own and I'm not sure that.
- 43:00Speaker 1: People that live outside of LA or Hollywood could fully
- 43:03Speaker 1: understand how hard that is.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, because again people saw me in the media
- 43:11Speaker 2: for one thing, you know, and for somebody who wanted
- 43:19Speaker 2: to do something with their lives. It's like I had
- 43:24Speaker 2: to just focus on me and drown out all the noise.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Like how did you do that? I mean it was
- 43:32Speaker 2: a struggle. It wasn't like I was it was easy peasy.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Especially with social media. I had to literally put my
- 43:39Speaker 2: phone down because you can really become sucked into that,
- 43:42Speaker 2: into the comments and what people are saying and this,
- 43:45Speaker 2: that and the other. And especially at a time where
- 43:48Speaker 2: I didn't have anything going on for myself, you know
- 43:50Speaker 2: what I mean, Like, I mean you did, but you're
- 43:52Speaker 2: not in the same way, but in the same way
- 43:54Speaker 2: where now it's like, Okay, I can work on this
- 43:56Speaker 2: and focus on this. It's like do I go back
- 43:59Speaker 2: to to you know what I mean? Like what where
- 44:02Speaker 2: does this go? And there were opportunities to do like
- 44:06Speaker 2: reality TV and those type of things, and I was like,
- 44:08Speaker 2: that's not the direction that I want for my career. Wow,
- 44:11Speaker 2: because if I want to do acting, then maybe they're
- 44:14Speaker 2: not going to take me seriously. If I'm doing you
- 44:16Speaker 2: knew back then that that's what you wanted to do. Yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 2: shortly after the you know, a relationship whatever, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 44:25Speaker 2: shortly after that.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so you really had foresight, like you had something
- 44:30Speaker 1: in your mind that maybe other people didn't see, but
- 44:32Speaker 1: you saw something.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Yeah. I had an opportunity that was presented to me
- 44:37Speaker 2: to act, and so it was a very very small role.
- 44:40Speaker 2: I had one line and I was like, I'll try,
- 44:45Speaker 2: I'll take a shot at like, you know, I've never
- 44:47Speaker 2: acted before, but you know, let's do it. And I
- 44:50Speaker 2: did it. And I was like so nervous that day
- 44:52Speaker 2: and so scared, but I did it. I was intrigued
- 44:56Speaker 2: and it sparked an interest and from there I was like, Okay,
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'm going to do this. But I knew that I
- 45:02Speaker 2: had to do to catch up. I had to take
- 45:04Speaker 2: the act of classes and all that. And that's what
- 45:07Speaker 2: led me to hear.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Was there a moment where you felt like you fully
- 45:11Speaker 1: stepped out on your own and like left all that behind.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Probably later down the line, maybe around clause really yeah,
- 45:21Speaker 2: because kind of far down the line. Yeah. I mean
- 45:23Speaker 2: people even still to this day, some people are like, oh,
- 45:27Speaker 2: you're didadadas ex. I'm like, sure, like whatever, cool. But
- 45:33Speaker 2: to think that it was that so long ago they
- 45:35Speaker 2: still correlated too, is like, so I don't know if
- 45:40Speaker 2: I can't read people's minds. I don't know if that's
- 45:43Speaker 2: just when they see me that's what they think of
- 45:45Speaker 2: or I don't. I don't know, but that took a
- 45:49Speaker 2: long time to kind of separate because again, that's all
- 45:53Speaker 2: people knew. The world was presented to me in that way,
- 45:56Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So I think that that would feel so strange because
- 46:00Speaker 1: I think about, like somebody I dated ten years ago,
- 46:03Speaker 1: and like that feels like a whole nother lifetime.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I don't even know that person. Yeah, I mean for me,
- 46:07Speaker 2: I had to just like take it for what it is,
- 46:09Speaker 2: and like, look, I guess if you date somebody on
- 46:12Speaker 2: that type of that type of stature, it's like, I
- 46:14Speaker 2: guess that's what it comes with, you know what I mean.
- 46:16Speaker 2: I didn't know. I didn't expect it in that during
- 46:20Speaker 2: that time, you know, but yeah, it is what it is,
- 46:25Speaker 2: and that's what people think. So it's like I guess.
- 46:28Speaker 2: But now it's like I don't let it affect me
- 46:31Speaker 2: because I've grown to a point where like I don't
- 46:37Speaker 2: really feed into people's comments or whatever they say as
- 46:40Speaker 2: much as I used to. It's kind of just like whatever, Okay,
- 46:45Speaker 2: that's what you want to think, you know, I'm not
- 46:46Speaker 2: going to be like I'm not I'm corroachiating. I don't
- 46:49Speaker 2: send it like I'm not gonna like what do we
- 46:51Speaker 2: you know, like for what you know? And it's like
- 46:53Speaker 2: they'll know soon enough. Yeah, yeah, And that's the thing.
- 46:57Speaker 2: And I have other things happening, So it's like I
- 46:59Speaker 2: don't have to prove anything to anybody. If you want
- 47:02Speaker 2: to think of me as this person said, then yeah, fine,
- 47:06Speaker 2: I don't care. I'm still gonna be home on my couch, yeah,
- 47:10Speaker 2: making my tea or my home remedies or my mask whatever,
- 47:13Speaker 2: you know. I'm still going to live my life and
- 47:15Speaker 2: do what I do.
- 47:15Speaker 1: So, you like, throughout all the things in your career,
- 47:23Speaker 1: you've always remained really graceful. And I remember, like at
- 47:26Speaker 1: the height of all the stuff with your ex, yes,
- 47:30Speaker 1: people always were like yeah, but she's like above it all,
- 47:34Speaker 1: Like you never talked a lot to the press, You
- 47:37Speaker 1: never like you never did the reality shit, Like you
- 47:40Speaker 1: could have cashed in on some things and you always
- 47:43Speaker 1: just did you have somebody guiding you?
- 47:45Speaker 2: Or is that just like your own compass? It was
- 47:47Speaker 2: me just sticking true to me and what I felt.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I was blessed to grow up with morals and standards,
- 47:57Speaker 2: you know, my parents, my parents, my godfam that raised me,
- 48:01Speaker 2: as well my girlfriends that I grew up with, you
- 48:03Speaker 2: know what I mean. So I think I just stay
- 48:06Speaker 2: true to who I the girl from La, you know,
- 48:11Speaker 2: and just kind of stuck with that and just went
- 48:15Speaker 2: with my heart. I guess do you feel proud of
- 48:17Speaker 2: that person? Absolutely? Because I could be a whole different person.
- 48:23Speaker 2: But I do like that I can be graceful and
- 48:28Speaker 2: I can take the high road, and that I am
- 48:32Speaker 2: a good person. You know, I'm not really I try
- 48:37Speaker 2: to be as positive as I can. I'm not really
- 48:39Speaker 2: like nasty or rude or mean to people. I'm not perfect.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I'm a work in progress. I'm still growing and still
- 48:48Speaker 2: learning how to be better as a friend and as
- 48:52Speaker 2: a daughter and as all these different things, you know,
- 48:57Speaker 2: just trying to be my best self. And we all
- 48:59Speaker 2: have flaws, you know, but I've always maintained my integrity.
- 49:05Speaker 1: That's a good word for it. Yeah, that's what I
- 49:07Speaker 1: was thinking as you were talking. Yeah, yea, yeah, you
- 49:10Speaker 1: have this moral compass and nothing really can sway like
- 49:13Speaker 1: no amount of fame or money can sway that. Like
- 49:15Speaker 1: you're not just gonna do a money grab.
- 49:17Speaker 2: You're not gonna yeah, yeah, I missed on a lot
- 49:19Speaker 2: of big money grab opportunities, but it didn't feel right. Yeah,
- 49:24Speaker 2: you know, where's the longevity, moral longevity in that? You know?
- 49:29Speaker 1: So yeah I read that. You said you're a relationship girl.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, me too, Yes, yes, yes, yes, what
- 49:42Speaker 2: does dating life look like for you? Now? It's hard
- 49:45Speaker 2: because there's just so much out there. But then also
- 49:49Speaker 2: isn't you know, especially with social media, everybody knows everybody.
- 49:54Speaker 2: The industry itself is like so big, it's so small,
- 49:59Speaker 2: and I'm just trying to live life and just have fun,
- 50:03Speaker 2: try new things, not put pressure on you know, I
- 50:07Speaker 2: need to be in a relationship or I need to
- 50:10Speaker 2: be with somebody. I feel like growing up in my
- 50:14Speaker 2: earlier years, I was very like codependent, like I felt
- 50:18Speaker 2: like I needed to be in a relationship or be
- 50:20Speaker 2: with somebody to feel fulfilled. And no, no, thank you.
- 50:28Speaker 2: And it's such a gift though, yes, and I'm so
- 50:31Speaker 2: glad that I'm able to see that, because that's like,
- 50:35Speaker 2: what's the word that can really not tear you down?
- 50:39Speaker 2: But if you really become that person, then you become
- 50:42Speaker 2: codependent on somebody else's love and somebody else's energy and
- 50:47Speaker 2: just somebody else to like make you happy. Yeah, And
- 50:50Speaker 2: you know, as they say to you, you got to
- 50:52Speaker 2: make yourself happy first before you can be happy or
- 50:55Speaker 2: with anybody. And that is one thing that I am
- 50:59Speaker 2: grateful for is that I spent a lot of during
- 51:02Speaker 2: the ups and downs of my life. I spend a
- 51:05Speaker 2: lot of time on my own and just figuring out
- 51:08Speaker 2: what I like. That's why I know I want to
- 51:10Speaker 2: live on an island because I'm like, I've had a
- 51:13Speaker 2: taste of that life, like traveling or whatever it is,
- 51:15Speaker 2: and I'm like, no, that's what I want, you know.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I like my coffee. I like working out. I like
- 51:22Speaker 2: you know, doing yoga, I like reading, you know, just
- 51:25Speaker 2: cooking and all these things. Because I spent time alone
- 51:28Speaker 2: figuring out how can I invest in me. I've taken
- 51:32Speaker 2: pottery classes that I loved. I need to go back.
- 51:34Speaker 2: I started smile, but it's like it's fun and it's
- 51:36Speaker 2: like something to do and like be creative and be expressive. Yeah.
- 51:43Speaker 1: I used to be codependent too, and I actually think
- 51:45Speaker 1: it was a lot of pressure for the guy I
- 51:47Speaker 1: was dating because I didn't realize it, but so much
- 51:50Speaker 1: of my happiness was coming from them. And it's like
- 51:53Speaker 1: that's a lot of pressure for your partner.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, and for you too as a part It's like,
- 52:00Speaker 2: that's so hard to kind of just live, I guess
- 52:04Speaker 2: when you're living for somebody else.
- 52:07Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, do you feel like you're looking for
- 52:11Speaker 1: a different kind of love at the stage of your life. Yeah,
- 52:14Speaker 1: The things that used to attract me don't attract me
- 52:18Speaker 1: as much, whether it's materialistic things or whatever it may be.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Or even like looks, Like I don't really care about
- 52:24Speaker 2: looks anymore. I love a fine man who doesn't. But like,
- 52:28Speaker 2: but that's not always like my go to you know
- 52:31Speaker 2: what I'm saying. It's the energy that you share, the connection.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Can you see yourself with this person? Can you travel
- 52:38Speaker 2: with this person when it's quiet you're at home, can
- 52:43Speaker 2: you just be still and be at each other's presence
- 52:45Speaker 2: without feeling feeling like you have to say something or
- 52:49Speaker 2: like have a conversation, you know what I mean? Like
- 52:51Speaker 2: that you have to like feel that like quiet noise
- 52:54Speaker 2: or that life, you know, like those are the moments
- 52:56Speaker 2: where I'm like, I feel like that's when I will
- 52:59Speaker 2: find my person is just in laughing, Yeah, having fun.
- 53:05Speaker 2: That's like the best, you know, just enjoying somebody and
- 53:09Speaker 2: their time and their space. Space is another thing too.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Can you share space with this person? Can you respect
- 53:18Speaker 1: each other's space? Are you the organized one or the
- 53:20Speaker 1: messy one?
- 53:20Speaker 2: The organized? Yeah, I could have guessed that. Oh yeah,
- 53:23Speaker 2: I'm very like things need to be exactly.
- 53:27Speaker 1: You go fix those, fix those for us. Have you
- 53:30Speaker 1: ever dated somebody messy? Yeah, it's hard, It is hard,
- 53:35Speaker 1: But I think when I dated that person, I wasn't
- 53:37Speaker 1: as neat. Okay, that's that's like grown, that's interesting.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So now my place is very like Kyle,
- 53:47Speaker 2: I fad this. It's very like put together and yeah, precise, precise.
- 53:51Speaker 1: What do you think is the pettiest thing you've ever
- 53:53Speaker 1: done to remind the world, like nonm way more than
- 53:56Speaker 1: somebody's ex because you're so graceful.
- 53:59Speaker 2: I need one thing, petty If I done, that's petty.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm got to posted like some you know,
- 54:07Speaker 2: photo with a caption, But what did I even?
- 54:13Speaker 1: I don't know, Oh, like a caption that means something.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I might have done something like that that wasn't
- 54:18Speaker 2: too spot on, because you can't be too obvious. But
- 54:21Speaker 2: it's like a you know, you gotta I like to
- 54:24Speaker 2: be mysterious. They gotta keep that mystique about me, you know.
- 54:28Speaker 2: So yeah, I can't. I try not to be too petty,
- 54:33Speaker 2: especially on social media, because they will eat you alive.
- 54:36Speaker 2: They'll take one thing and make it a whole other thing.
- 54:38Speaker 1: So when I was reading about Rucci, the self care
- 54:41Speaker 1: part stuck out to me because I know after your
- 54:45Speaker 1: public breakup you started really talking about like toxic relationships
- 54:50Speaker 1: and being an advocate for women in that space. Was
- 54:54Speaker 1: there self care that you did at that time that
- 54:57Speaker 1: you feel like you could credit some of the healing too?
- 55:00Speaker 2: Well, that's when I spent a lot of time with myself,
- 55:03Speaker 2: okay and trying new things. Is when I got into yoga.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I started reading a lot of self help books. What
- 55:10Speaker 2: else was I doing that?
- 55:12Speaker 1: Just to do therapy?
- 55:13Speaker 2: Oh? Yes, why didn't I talk about therapy? Yes? The
- 55:17Speaker 2: funny thing is is I tried to do therapy back then.
- 55:22Speaker 2: I did one session. Didn't love it because also again
- 55:25Speaker 2: I'm the person that doesn't like to talk about my emotions.
- 55:28Speaker 2: So I did it because you know, at the time,
- 55:30Speaker 2: somebody was like, you need therapy, and da da da.
- 55:32Speaker 2: I was like, oh, okay, fine, So I went didn't
- 55:35Speaker 2: care for it, but then I tried it again later
- 55:39Speaker 2: in life, Like I started therapy maybe early thirties something
- 55:45Speaker 2: like that because I felt like I was ready and
- 55:49Speaker 2: I loved it. I had one therapist that I started with,
- 55:52Speaker 2: and I just switched my therapist to a new therapist
- 55:55Speaker 2: the past two years. And she's a black woman from
- 55:58Speaker 2: la and I adore her. She's the best and she
- 56:03Speaker 2: keeps it real. And you know, when people talk about therapy,
- 56:06Speaker 2: it's like you're crazy or I'm not crazy, I don't
- 56:09Speaker 2: need therapy or I didn't and it's like it doesn't
- 56:11Speaker 2: have to do with being crazy. It's like sometimes we
- 56:14Speaker 2: just need a release to talk about something without any
- 56:21Speaker 2: opinions that from somebody that might be connected to you
- 56:25Speaker 2: or that knows you. You know, it's like it's different
- 56:26Speaker 2: from talking to like your homegirl. You know, it's kind
- 56:29Speaker 2: of the same, but it's very different, and a therapist
- 56:32Speaker 2: will help you figure out your patterns and what stemmed
- 56:38Speaker 2: from childhood and from this situation that happened or from
- 56:42Speaker 2: what you did or didn't get from your parents. Like
- 56:44Speaker 2: all that trickles down into who we are today, and
- 56:49Speaker 2: some of that needs a little bit of work, you know,
- 56:51Speaker 2: and especially when it comes to careers, relationships, friends, family, Like,
- 56:57Speaker 2: we have patterns that we don't even realize. And my
- 57:00Speaker 2: therapist has helped me realize my patterns too, especially with
- 57:04Speaker 2: dating and like the type of men that I usually
- 57:06Speaker 2: go for and the certain things that I do, and
- 57:09Speaker 2: even patterns and other men, other men. When I'm dating
- 57:13Speaker 2: a certain type of man, it's like, oh, this feels familiar.
- 57:17Speaker 2: I don't like this. Now I'm in a place where
- 57:20Speaker 2: I can be more vocal and I can say no
- 57:24Speaker 2: or whatever the cases. You know, I can identify it.
- 57:27Speaker 2: And that also helps me to know if, like are
- 57:30Speaker 2: you my person or not? When you were talking about
- 57:32Speaker 2: your parents or like your upbringing and thinking like you
- 57:35Speaker 2: could do everything yourself, Yeah, does that show up in
- 57:38Speaker 2: dating for you? Yeah, because a lot of dating issues
- 57:42Speaker 2: come from like mommy and daddy issues on both ends
- 57:44Speaker 2: for men and women. You know, the love that we
- 57:47Speaker 2: did or didn't get the relationship we had with our
- 57:49Speaker 2: parents affects us. And it isn't necessarily just like a
- 57:52Speaker 2: negative thing. It's just life, you know. And you grow
- 57:57Speaker 2: up thinking a certain way or being used to a
- 58:00Speaker 2: certain behavior and that behavior might not be the best
- 58:05Speaker 2: or you know. So that's a part of self care
- 58:08Speaker 2: on wanting to be better and self discovery and you know,
- 58:12Speaker 2: just wanting to be the best version of myself, which
- 58:15Speaker 2: thank you for reminding me. I need to go see
- 58:16Speaker 2: my therapist because it's been a while. Authenticity has always
- 58:22Speaker 2: been at the front and center for you. Has there
- 58:25Speaker 2: been a moment where owning who you are fully gave
- 58:28Speaker 2: you strength in a way you didn't expect. I think
- 58:31Speaker 2: when it comes to like deals or working with a
- 58:35Speaker 2: company or a brand, being authentic and listening to my
- 58:41Speaker 2: mind or my body, do I like this is this
- 58:44Speaker 2: just a money grab? Like I always listen to that,
- 58:49Speaker 2: and I'm proud of that because I don't want some
- 58:56Speaker 2: amount of money or some title or whatever to control me,
- 59:01Speaker 2: because that's just very like temporary. And again I'm in
- 59:06Speaker 2: it for like the long haul and the longevity with
- 59:11Speaker 2: whoever you know, whatever brand or whatever it is that
- 59:15Speaker 2: I'm doing, you know, just just doing things that I
- 59:20Speaker 2: really connect with.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Are you comfortable negotiating now? Like the older I get,
- 59:25Speaker 1: the more comfortable I am being like, this is the price,
- 59:29Speaker 1: take it or leave it. But I still have that
- 59:30Speaker 1: pit in my stomach.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Sometimes. But also I'm like, Okay, here's my manager's number.
- 59:35Speaker 2: They'll talk to you about because I'm like, let's talk
- 59:37Speaker 2: creative all day. But the business side, I'm like it
- 59:41Speaker 2: just I don't know, that's not it's not my my strength.
- 59:46Speaker 2: I let my people handle that. They're gonna that, you know,
- 59:50Speaker 2: what they do, and and yeah, that's they think too.
- 59:53Speaker 2: I don't try to like overstep or do too much
- 59:56Speaker 2: or like I'm gonna be a boss and tell them,
- 59:57Speaker 2: you know, like if that's not my strength, talk to
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: my team. They'll figure it out. We'll connect and we'll
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: go from there.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: And you can be like the soft girl. Yeah, and
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: I'm just like over here, like yes, all of that, Okay,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: rapid fire or the other game? Which one do you
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: want to do first? What's the other game?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Turn ons and turn offs?
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Let's do turn it off and turn off? I like it, Yeah, Gussie, Okay,
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: tough fun football players turn on or turn off? Ah,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: I mean sometimes they give you a turn on. Depends.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Yes, rappers are singers turn on turn off.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Or saying which which or like are they a turn
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: on or they turn off? For you? Now at this
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: stage in your life, turn off. There's too much I
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: can't do with the lifestyle.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Getting your partner's name tattooed on you.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Turn on or turn off? It is the right person
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: to turn on. I don't I don't mind doing that.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Public displays of affection turn on or turn off? I
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: love turn on. I am such a uh yeah clause. Yes,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: older men turn on or turn off? Turn on? Really? Yeah,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: are trying new things? I'm open to whatever.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, making a grand gesture turn on or turn off?
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Turn on? Yeah? I love that.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Do you think women can really have it all?
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Yes? What's a piece of advice that's stuck with you
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: throughout your life, especially during a time of transition or growth.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: A piece of advice or like a motto, where there
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: is love, there is life. I have that tatted on me.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: That's not a piece of advice, but it's like a
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: quote or whatever I believe in, like living through your
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: heart and through love, whether it's at work with your
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: friends and a relationship, walking down the hall being filled
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: with love, saying hello to somebody that you don't know.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: I think just like the essence of carrying that love
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: and happiness is everything that's so beautiful. Thank you.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: That's the only tattoo that I have.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Cute. What is that says love? It's just it loves
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: come up anyways.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: One thing every woman should try once, I want to say.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: The first thing that came to my mind is dating,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: but dating in a sense of like being open minded
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: and trying new things. And I always say trying new
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: things because you don't know until you try. And that's
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: like a part of finding your person. It's just you
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: have to you have to go through that rollercoaster to
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: see what you are willing to are are and aren't
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: willing to deal with and who.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Who you find. What's the wildest dm you've ever gotten
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: from a fan or a celebrity A ticic? Oh no, yeah, nasty,
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: I know that is so like so gross. It's not
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: what you want to see. No, thank you.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: There's like this really funny comedian that's like that doesn't
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: impress a woman like send her a photo of your paycheck,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: not your day for.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Real, Like nobody girls don't find that cute.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you have to eat one meal for the
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: rest of your life.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: What's on your plate? Oh shoot, I will have to
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: say rice and peace and stewed chicken with the side
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: of planted and a side of cabbage or cola loo.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Tell me you're not going to move to Jamaica without
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: telling me you're going to go to Jamaically.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: I could eat that every single day, and it has
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: to be from Jamaica. No jerk chicken. I like jerk chicken,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: but jerk chicken sometimes, depending where you go, can be
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: a little dry. But in Jamaica the jerk chicken off
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: the side of the road the best. So I'll take
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: jerk chicken or stewed chicken.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: A piece of advice that sounded corny when you first
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: heard it, but it's one hundred percentury a piece of advice.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Somebody once told me. She told me don't quit your
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: day jab when I was in a thing, and it
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: wasn't corny, but maybe I just didn't like really take
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: in what she meant. And I think what she meant
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: is like I don't think she meant like go back
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: to nort I'm still working or gyms. But I think
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: she meant like, always keep focused on you, always invest
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: in you, always do things to fill your cup, always
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: have something going on, because I did kind of lose
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: sight of that at one point in my life, which
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: is like living in a whole different world. But now
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: I fully understand what she meant.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I need a book from you about that time. You
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: don't have to do it now, but like in five
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: ten years.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, during that time, people were like, you
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: should write a tell all like that is a corny thing.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: I would never do something like that, like that's why
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: that's so out of my character. But I would be
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: open to writing a book about my growth and spirituality
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: and the lessons from it. The lessons, Yeah, nothing specific
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: or any thing like that, but I definitely would. Yeah.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Cruci Tran ten years ago could see you. Now,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: what would she be most surprised.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: By twenty six? I think how much of a homebody
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: she is, because girl eyes me outside, Okay, eyes me outside,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: living my life, having fun, going out every single day, drinking,
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: nothing too crazy, but just just just a different person. Yeah.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Now I'm just like at home in my slip and
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: in my robe and just super chilling. I love that
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Oh, a book that you've read that changed your life,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: something you think everybody should read. Renee Brown has a
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: really great she has a ton.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Of great books. What is the one that Darren greatly
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: daring greatly? Yes, yes, I would definitely suggest probably any
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Brite Brown, but that one I have and I have
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: a couple of them too. Oh. Also the four Agreetments,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: great one. That's a great one too, because you can
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: I pick that. I have like a little library and
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I just kind of go and pick that book up
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: every now and then and just you can always read
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: that and whenever you just need to hear something really filling.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: And that keeps me grounded too. Yeah, a card ask
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: and everything to Okay, Okay, let's see, let's see, let's
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: see see.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: I love that you're pulling it like a teart card
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: runner question everything.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: What is the coolest, most unique or important skill you've
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: learned from your job? The coolest most unique one more scale.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: That's a cool one for you, dang, what is from acting?
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: I think kind of what I brought up earlier is
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: being open, open minded and not being one sided and
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: just being ready for whatever the director or a showrunner
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: or writer, whatever throws at you, and to like let
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: loose and just have fun.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: What's something that you wish people could see about you
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: that they don't see it first glance?
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: Maybe how normal am? Like? Did it shock you that
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: I wanted to live on an island a little? Okay?
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: When I tell people that, they kind of like are
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: shocked too, and like I never expected that a lot.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: You just have a foothold in this industry, which is
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: so hard to be a part of. So to be like, yeah,
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: I'm just out is shocking. Yeah. But for me, it's
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: like I'm the sort of person like I'll work forever.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I love working.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes me feel good.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: And I don't mind going to my island if I
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: have a job or something, I come travel and then
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: go back. That's why I want to stay closer to
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: the States. It's opposed to go into Portugal where it's
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: like you gotta take two flights, it's too much, you know.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: So yeah, I think and a lot of people too,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: when they meet me, they're like, oh, I thought that
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: you would be like kind of like stuck up or bougie.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: You're like bitch, like really, like I guess because of
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: the industry, maybe most people are. I don't know what
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: their experience was, And I'm like, no, I'm just very
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: chill and like kind of normal a little bit.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so great.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: You are super normal in the best way. Thank you. Yeah.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: I try because like what when you take everything away,
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: it's like who are we? What are we? You know?
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: And like I don't. I don't want to get too
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: stuck in the industry of this world because it's kind
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: of it's a little smoking mirrors, you know sometimes. So
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: I just like, it's been good to you. Yeah, I
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: mean it's it's it's had its hard moments, but I'm blessed.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: I'm so grateful for who I am today, even through
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: everything that I've gone through, because I wouldn't be who
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: I am if I didn't go through that, you know.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: So yeah, it's good so far.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I thought of my last turn on turn off because
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: oh what is it?
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Wait? Yeah, yeah, thank you?
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: A public engagement turn on or turn off?
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I think turn on really because I'm shore public Okay.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Are we talking about like at a basketball game? Yeah?
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Or like that's what you're talking about, right, engagement? Yeah,
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: or like he invited all your friends and family type
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: of public engage.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good distinction, like a basketball game on
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: a like a I'm kind of into.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: It because it's like let the people know, but like
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: what happens if your answers know.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Oh, you better have talked about it before, because that's horrible, horrible.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: You were so fun. Oh, thank you. I really enjoyed
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: this and thank you.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Okay, you know what time it is. Today's a good day,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: to have a good day. I'll see you next week.
