- 0:53Speaker 1: sometimes we have, uh, follow-up questions to what it is
- 0:56Speaker 1: that you're asking about and, um, uh, you know, when
- 1:01Speaker 1: you send your question online, it's, um,
- 1:05Speaker 1: It kind of keeps us guessing as to why you're
- 1:07Speaker 1: asking this question or whatever, whatever the case might be. So, uh,
- 1:10Speaker 1: call in to 888-564-6173, 888-564-6173. That number good until 4 p.m.

- 1:27Speaker 1: us there on the pastor's perspective Instagram, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: We'll get to your calls, your questions in just a moment.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Let me introduce who we got on the show today.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Brian Broderson is here. He's the pastor emeritus at Calvary Chapel,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Costa Mesa. You can also learn more about him and
- 1:41Speaker 1: his wife Cheryl on their website, echoesofmercy.com. Brian, so good
- 1:47Speaker 1: to see you, man. It's been a few years. Yes,
- 1:50Speaker 1: it seems like a while. It is great to see
- 1:52Speaker 1: you too. It's good to be here. I was here, uh,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yesterday was I here? Yeah, yeah, I was here yesterday,
- 1:59Speaker 1: but you weren't here. But today we're together and we're
- 2:04Speaker 1: trying to get our good friend Bobby Conway on with
- 2:08Speaker 1: us and he just texted me as well saying help, help.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I just sent him some information that might help, help. OK, we'll, uh.
- 2:19Speaker 1: We'll see. All right. All right, so we're working on that.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah, so, you know, when I am coming in on Zoom.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I've had those same kinds of issues, you know, where
- 2:31Speaker 1: I click on it and it tells me, you know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: meeting ID number and all this stuff. I'm like, what?
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't have a meeting ID number. And then my
- 2:38Speaker 1: computer says, oh, you have to allow for pop-ups. I
- 2:42Speaker 1: never disallowed for pop-ups. Why are you, you know, it's
- 2:45Speaker 1: just the crazy computer, the crazy tech world that we inhabit.
- 2:52Speaker 1: That is generally good, but sometimes completely frustrating. So this
- 2:57Speaker 1: is true. All right, so, uh, while we're waiting for
- 3:00Speaker 1: the connection to happen, here's a question that, uh, was, well,
- 3:04Speaker 1: this one wasn't called in or emailed in or anything,
- 3:07Speaker 1: there's a
- 3:09Speaker 1: Young man, 15-year-old Baxter in Costa Mesa, who happens to
- 3:13Speaker 1: know one of our staff members here, so he wrote
- 3:16Speaker 1: down his question on a 3x5 card, gave it to him,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and then he passed it on. So here is Baxter's question.
- 3:22Speaker 1: How do I know that I have a mustard seed
- 3:25Speaker 1: of faith? Brian, what would you say to Baxter?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Well, um, you know, I, I would say if you
- 3:35Speaker 1: know that you have put your trust in Jesus.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Um, that's of course how salvation occurs. That's faith. You, you,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you put your faith in Him. Trust and faith are
- 3:47Speaker 1: the same thing. So you put your faith in Him.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And OK, so you know you have faith and that
- 3:54Speaker 1: faith would qualify as a mustard seed or, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 1: something larger perhaps, but I think the fact that you
- 4:04Speaker 1: have the faith that you you have trusted the Lord,
- 4:07Speaker 1: that's proof that you do have faith.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Sounds good. Baxter. Thanks for uh getting your question to
- 4:16Speaker 1: us somehow. Not the most traditional method, but uh, that's OK,
- 4:20Speaker 1: we'll use it. 888-564-6173 and it appears we have made
- 4:25Speaker 1: contact with the great doctor, Doctor, Doctor Bobby Conway. What's up?
- 4:31Speaker 1: What's the haps guys? Good to see you. Yes, look
- 4:34Speaker 1: at that hair, man. That's always Brian's first comment to you, Bobby.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I've noticed that just always so impressive. It's like, OK,
- 4:44Speaker 1: kind of got the Andy Warhol hair dude today, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 1: kind of, kind of poured up, you know, swept over
- 4:51Speaker 1: to the side a little bit. So it's usually just vertical.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I've, uh, I've been, uh, letting it fall
- 4:59Speaker 1: down instead of something. You gotta mix stuff up, you know. Yeah, well,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, I just finally got a haircut the other
- 5:05Speaker 1: day from my daughter and, um, I was the last
- 5:10Speaker 1: few weeks I was in my
- 5:12Speaker 1: I was in my little space in um, Somerville, a
- 5:16Speaker 1: place that Bobby is familiar with, a place that we
- 5:19Speaker 1: both really like, but I was in my little bed
- 5:22Speaker 1: and breakfast and, you know, just like the lighting and
- 5:25Speaker 1: everything and, and my hair was kind of grown wild
- 5:29Speaker 1: and I've got this beard and I'm and I'm looking
- 5:32Speaker 1: at myself and it's a little bit of a silhouette
- 5:35Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, I don't know, Bobby, if you've ever
- 5:38Speaker 1: seen like
- 5:39Speaker 1: I, I think it's on, I, I don't know if
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's Barnes and Noble or whatever, but one of the,
- 5:43Speaker 1: one of the copies of the Odyssey, they have like
- 5:45Speaker 1: an image of Homer on it, like what they imagined
- 5:48Speaker 1: Homer would look like. And he's, you know, it's like
- 5:51Speaker 1: I'm looking in the mirror thinking I am Homer right now.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I look like Homer. I've got the, you know, kind
- 5:56Speaker 1: of crazy hair. I've got the crazy beard.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And I decided I'm gonna ditch the Homer look and
- 6:05Speaker 1: uh so got not Homer Simpson just to be clear,
- 6:08Speaker 1: not Homer Simpson because he doesn't have hair, does he? No,
- 6:12Speaker 1: he's got another look. For one thing, he's got jaundice
- 6:16Speaker 1: or something I don't know, but.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm trying to get on my laptop with you guys
- 6:22Speaker 1: so I can um I'm I'm on my phone but
- 6:26Speaker 1: the link issues that we're having is uh it, it's
- 6:29Speaker 1: gonna make it challenging because I don't wanna hold my
- 6:31Speaker 1: phone the whole time, you know.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah, OK, we'll keep working on it and we'll just.
- 6:38Speaker 1: We'll just hang tight until you get it. Yes, we will.
- 6:42Speaker 1: All right, let's go to the phones. Got some calls
- 6:44Speaker 1: coming in at 888-564-6173. Here's Jenny in San Clemente. Welcome
- 6:50Speaker 1: to Pastor's Perspective, Jenny. You're on with Brian Broderson and
- 6:54Speaker 1: Bobby Conway.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Hi, I love when Bobby's on the show. I just
- 7:00Speaker 2: think he is just a genius. My ears perk up
- 7:03Speaker 2: when I hear anything he has to say. Um, but
- 7:05Speaker 2: I would love to get, I would love to get
- 7:08Speaker 2: everybody's opinion here on Luke 10:19, uh, the verse that says,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you know, we've been given.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Uh, authority, um, you know, to trample on, let's see,
- 7:22Speaker 1: scorpions and serpents,
- 7:24Speaker 2: yeah, yeah, certain, you know, all the power of the enemy,
- 7:27Speaker 2: nothing will harm you. So one of my study Bibles, uh,
- 7:31Speaker 2: in the margin, OK, it says, um.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Uh, basically, uh, uh, a figurative way to speak of
- 7:39Speaker 2: us trampling over evil, um, and some people do see
- 7:43Speaker 2: it as a literal promise, but I have a Bible
- 7:46Speaker 2: where that scripture is actually in parentheses and on the
- 7:52Speaker 2: side margin.
- 7:54Speaker 2: It says, um, something to the effect of some scholars
- 7:59Speaker 2: believe this verse, um, uh, basically how it's like up
- 8:02Speaker 2: in the air of whether to include it in the Bible, um,
- 8:06Speaker 2: or they're not serve the original text. I don't have
- 8:08Speaker 2: that Bible in front of me, but, um,
- 8:12Speaker 2: This is one of my favorite verses. So I'm like,
- 8:15Speaker 2: wait a minute, I want that to be a strong
- 8:17Speaker 2: scripture that is definitely biblical. And I was wondering why,
- 8:22Speaker 2: why did some of my, one of my Bibles kind
- 8:24Speaker 2: of try to say that verse is up for, you know, um, interpretation, or,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, I'd love to get a scholar's perspective on
- 8:34Speaker 2: that Bible
- 8:35Speaker 2: verse.
- 8:36Speaker 1: All right, Doctor, Doctor Bobby Conway, what do you tell Jenny?
- 8:40Speaker 1: Well, uh, unfortunately, I'm in a bit of an ADD
- 8:43Speaker 1: mode trying to figure out tech stuff. And so I
- 8:47Speaker 1: am gonna have to punt, uh, by the way, if
- 8:51Speaker 1: you guys are watching on Facebook and YouTube and Instagram,
- 8:53Speaker 1: you're seeing Bobby in 3D right now or something. The
- 8:55Speaker 1: camera's like right up on him. That was, yeah, I'm
- 8:58Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to get off my phone, uh,
- 9:01Speaker 1: so I can, uh.
- 9:03Speaker 1: But whatever reason, my phone I'm on with you, but
- 9:05Speaker 1: when I try to get on my with my laptop,
- 9:07Speaker 1: it's saying that it's invalid, so it won't let me connect.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So oh my goodness anyway.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm hoping I'll figure it out. That is so nerve-wracking
- 9:17Speaker 1: when that kind of stuff happens, isn't it.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Um, OK, so Bobby has to punt.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Uh, to me, and so I will, uh, take it away.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So
- 9:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great passage. I agree, um, Jenny, it's,
- 9:40Speaker 1: it's a great text that I have, um, at times
- 9:43Speaker 1: as well, just thought, you know, thank you Lord for
- 9:46Speaker 1: this promise. So, um,
- 9:51Speaker 1: Is there
- 9:54Speaker 1: Uh, you know, you do have, um.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Different manuscripts, of course, that are the basis for our
- 10:02Speaker 1: New Testaments. And you have one set of manuscripts that
- 10:08Speaker 1: is um
- 10:10Speaker 1: Used by the King James Version and then the New
- 10:14Speaker 1: King James use that same set of manuscripts, and they're,
- 10:19Speaker 1: they're known as the received text. And then you have
- 10:23Speaker 1: what's called the critical text, and the critical text is
- 10:27Speaker 1: basically the basis for every other translation, the NIV, the ESB,
- 10:31Speaker 1: the NASB, uh, the CSB, you name it, every, everything
- 10:35Speaker 1: else is from the critical text. And so, um,
- 10:41Speaker 1: What it is, is sometimes what, you know, the received
- 10:46Speaker 1: text will have um
- 10:50Speaker 1: A portion that the the critical text will not contain.
- 10:54Speaker 1: And so they will go then with the critical text
- 10:57Speaker 1: because they believe the critical text is more accurate. And
- 11:00Speaker 1: there's a big debate about, you know, which is more accurate.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So some scholars think because the critical text is based
- 11:08Speaker 1: on older manuscripts, it's more accurate.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Uh, but others think that the, uh, the received text
- 11:17Speaker 1: is actually a more pure text, so it's more accurate. And, um,
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, when it comes down to it, the, the
- 11:25Speaker 1: differences are so minor, it doesn't really amount to any
- 11:28Speaker 1: kind of a doctrinal issue. But in this particular place, um,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I'm curious what version of yours omits it.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Because I'm not seeing it being omitted here.
- 11:45Speaker 2: OK, so,
- 11:47Speaker 2: yeah, I, I actually couldn't find that Bible, but um
- 11:51Speaker 2: I do have it, and it's, it's, it's in probably
- 11:54Speaker 2: on my bookshelf somewhere, but they have it in parentheses,
- 11:58Speaker 2: and it just, I don't know if it's because it's
- 12:01Speaker 2: whether it's literal or whether, like this Bible says it's
- 12:05Speaker 2: a figurative way to trample over evil, but some do
- 12:07Speaker 2: think it's
- 12:09Speaker 2: Um, literal, so I don't know if they're saying, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 2: but it's literally in parentheses in one of my
- 12:14Speaker 1: Bibles. Yeah, well, in parentheses doesn't all in parentheses means is, um.
- 12:21Speaker 1: You know, it's kind of a
- 12:23Speaker 1: You know, a parenthetical statement is, you kind of break
- 12:27Speaker 1: away from the main point you're making, and then you
- 12:30Speaker 1: say something that's related, but not necessary, and then you
- 12:35Speaker 1: resume with what you were saying, you know, uh, so
- 12:40Speaker 1: the parentheses, um, doesn't mean that it's not in any
- 12:44Speaker 1: of the other texts, because as far as I can see,
- 12:45Speaker 1: it's in all of the, uh, both the critical text
- 12:48Speaker 1: and the received text.
- 12:50Speaker 1: So the the parentheses would just be the translators um
- 12:53Speaker 1: interpreting it as, um, you know, a bit of a
- 12:57Speaker 1: side statement. Jesus is making a statement, but then he
- 13:00Speaker 1: kind of, you know, he, he veers off just slightly.
- 13:03Speaker 1: He's still on the point, but he veers off just slightly.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And then it comes and then it comes right back
- 13:08Speaker 1: to the main point.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Do you, do you understand what I say, what I'm
- 13:12Speaker 1: saying when I say that?
- 13:15Speaker 2: So it is to be taken serious this text.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely,
- 13:19Speaker 2: yes, to be discounted or lightened, and OK, that's, that's
- 13:24Speaker 2: really just what, what I wanted to know because it's
- 13:26Speaker 2: one of my favorite verses.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and like I said, you're gonna find a lot
- 13:29Speaker 1: of times in scripture where you're gonna find parenthetical statements,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and a parenthetical statement, like I said, is just a
- 13:35Speaker 1: slight diversion from the main point.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Um, but it's part of the main point, but it's
- 13:41Speaker 1: just not, it's kind of like something that's non-essential to
- 13:44Speaker 1: the main point, but it's related to it. And so
- 13:47Speaker 1: like when Paul is writing to the Romans, for example,
- 13:51Speaker 1: you'll find a number of parenthetical statements there because Paul's
- 13:54Speaker 1: making an argument, and then he slightly deviates, and then
- 13:58Speaker 1: he comes back to his main point. And the, the
- 14:00Speaker 1: parentheses are the, are around the brackets are around the,
- 14:04Speaker 1: the deviation.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Excellent. Thank you.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You're welcome.
- 14:11Speaker 1: So, but then, you know, going back to kind of
- 14:13Speaker 1: the question, um, like she said, one of the Bible's
- 14:17Speaker 1: sort of says that this is, um, maybe not literal
- 14:22Speaker 1: in the sense that you're not literally going to trample
- 14:25Speaker 1: on serpents and scorpions. And I think that that's that's
- 14:28Speaker 1: it is figurative. It's serpents and scorpions are representative of
- 14:34Speaker 1: evil powers, because it goes on to say in all
- 14:37Speaker 1: the power of the enemy.
- 14:39Speaker 1: So you're not literally going to go around stomping on.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Scorpions and serpents, but you are as a Christian gonna
- 14:46Speaker 1: have authority over the
- 14:49Speaker 1: The demonic realm. I think the real miracle would be
- 14:52Speaker 1: to have all the serpents out of our periphery. I
- 14:56Speaker 1: prefer to not even encounter them altogether.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Well, Bobby, I hate to tell you this, but
- 15:05Speaker 1: I had a gardener come by.
- 15:07Speaker 1: The house the other day and he wanted to tell
- 15:10Speaker 1: me about all the copperhead snakes that are out and
- 15:14Speaker 1: about that I need to be cautious of and I said, well,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I'm from California.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Where we have rattlesnakes as pets, so I'm not really
- 15:25Speaker 1: worried about it, right? Yeah. Oh man, did you see
- 15:30Speaker 1: the story in the news the other day about the
- 15:32Speaker 1: it turned out to be a fake AI, uh, photo, whatever?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Was it really? Yeah, yeah. So there was a story.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Circulating here locally that uh not far from here in
- 15:43Speaker 1: Santa Ana on uh Eddinger and Maine I think in
- 15:47Speaker 1: that area uh some guy posted a photo online that
- 15:51Speaker 1: there was this uh some kind of viper, some kind
- 15:53Speaker 1: of venomous viper African viper yes yes.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So people were freaking out. Oh my goodness, it's on
- 15:58Speaker 1: the loose. What's gonna happen? And then they determined later on,
- 16:01Speaker 1: oh no, he, he did that with AI. He even
- 16:03Speaker 1: called the police and everything. So yeah, I mean, really, guy? Well,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I saw it and I thought, you know, I, I mean,
- 16:09Speaker 1: I have heard of situations where people will bring different.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Species from different places and you know, they, they can
- 16:17Speaker 1: get loose. So that's kind of what I thought it was,
- 16:20Speaker 1: but AI is is a much more obvious.
- 16:26Speaker 1: What's AI generated, please say that is so good.
- 16:31Speaker 1: All right, 888-564-6173 is the number to call. Now that
- 16:35Speaker 1: Bobby's all situated. Uh, here's a question just for Bobby.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It's from Denise who sent this in online. Uh, Bobby,
- 16:43Speaker 1: how do you handle spiritual warfare? What steps did you
- 16:47Speaker 1: take to make it go away? I experienced things like
- 16:50Speaker 1: the things that you've experienced all my life. I do
- 16:54Speaker 1: have people that have, that have witnessed some of these
- 16:56Speaker 1: things with me.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I've tried to rationalize most of it, but I do
- 17:00Speaker 1: not have answers for them. So my question is, how
- 17:01Speaker 1: do I make this stop? I believe God led me
- 17:04Speaker 1: to pastor's perspective because I have searched my entire life
- 17:07Speaker 1: for answers, and nobody has been able to help me. So, Bobby,
- 17:11Speaker 1: in times past when you've been on the show, you've
- 17:14Speaker 1: you've told us about the experiences you have, so for
- 17:16Speaker 1: anyone who hasn't heard that, maybe give us an overview
- 17:19Speaker 1: of that before you answer Denise's question.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Sure. Um, and this directly relates to God's providence and bringing, uh,
- 17:29Speaker 1: Pastor Brian and I together, um, because where I'm gonna
- 17:33Speaker 1: head here is how God used him in a message
- 17:36Speaker 1: when I was just a kid, uh, to literally bring
- 17:40Speaker 1: me out of a dark night of the soul. Um,
- 17:42Speaker 1: what took place with me is when I was getting
- 17:46Speaker 1: my life cleaned up, all of a sudden I was
- 17:49Speaker 1: beginning to feel, and
- 17:51Speaker 1: I was feeling loudly, and I was catching fire for Jesus,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and sharing Christ constantly with them, praying. I mean, I
- 18:00Speaker 1: was just a little zealot, and I started experiencing weird
- 18:06Speaker 1: phenomenon that I couldn't even, um, hardly explain, and I
- 18:11Speaker 1: felt weird talking about it to others because I would
- 18:14Speaker 1: literally be in my bed, for example,
- 18:17Speaker 1: Um, and I don't like walk around and talk about
- 18:20Speaker 1: this a whole lot in, in my experience, because it's
- 18:22Speaker 1: so crazy, but I can remember like, my bed would
- 18:26Speaker 1: start shaking violently, and then I would think, am I
- 18:30Speaker 1: being rational right now? Is this happening? And so I
- 18:33Speaker 1: would literally be thinking to myself, yeah, I'm, I'm laying
- 18:36Speaker 1: in an earthquake right now in my bed, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: And
- 18:41Speaker 1: I don't understand what's going on. There would be things
- 18:43Speaker 1: like the sink turning off and on. Um, I had
- 18:47Speaker 1: very weird, strange emotions that I'd never felt before. Almost, um,
- 18:54Speaker 1: just feelings of a, of a dark spiritual sense that I, I, I,
- 18:59Speaker 1: I don't even know what the emotion is outside of
- 19:01Speaker 1: just saying that it's a, an emotion of spiritual warfare.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And, um, I ended up going to a doctor. Uh,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I was losing weight, I couldn't eat. Um, I thought
- 19:13Speaker 1: I was dying, literally. I thought I had cancer. And
- 19:16Speaker 1: then when I went to the doctor, I think I
- 19:17Speaker 1: was 21, and they said, you have high blood pressure,
- 19:21Speaker 1: that's what's going on. Now, I do think some of
- 19:23Speaker 1: my anxiety, natural anxiety was a part of this. But
- 19:28Speaker 1: I think on top of that, there was a lot
- 19:30Speaker 1: of bizarre things, uh, like I said, lights going off
- 19:34Speaker 1: and on.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And this was a season, I remember specifically, my foot
- 19:38Speaker 1: wasn't even on the gas at the Ritz-Carlton, while I
- 19:40Speaker 1: was going up a hill, and my car starts accelerating.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I mean, and I, I don't even know how to
- 19:48Speaker 1: explain this outside of like, it brought me to my knees,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and I told a, a lady at the Ritz-Carlton where
- 19:54Speaker 1: I worked, she was a Christian. I said, I don't
- 19:56Speaker 1: know what's going on with me. She said, I think
- 19:58Speaker 1: you're going through spiritual warfare. Well, a week later, she
- 20:01Speaker 1: shows up at work, and she said, I got this
- 20:05Speaker 1: package in the mail.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And I never ordered this tape, but I think it's
- 20:09Speaker 1: for you. I think the Lord sent it to my
- 20:11Speaker 1: house for you. And she said, it's a tape called
- 20:14Speaker 1: Spiritual Warfare by Brian Broderson. I began listening to that tape,
- 20:20Speaker 1: and my dad, I had him listen to it, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: he couldn't believe it because he would watch me, and
- 20:26Speaker 1: I was scared to sleep in the dark. So I
- 20:27Speaker 1: was sleeping in my parents' family room with the lights on,
- 20:30Speaker 1: because I didn't want all the, the chaos.
- 20:33Speaker 1: And surely that tape really began to be the thing
- 20:37Speaker 1: that walked me out of that dark night. And then
- 20:40Speaker 1: you fast forward about 25 years later, or whatever it is,
- 20:46Speaker 1: and I'm on staff at Calvary Chapel Bible College and
- 20:49Speaker 1: never met Pastor Brian, and I tell him this story.
- 20:52Speaker 1: About how God used this tape, and it just began
- 20:56Speaker 1: this amazing relationship that we have to this day. And
- 21:00Speaker 1: I still, there are about 3 specific times where he
- 21:04Speaker 1: has clearly spoken to me, and God will put people
- 21:07Speaker 1: in your life, and he's a, he's kind of prophetic,
- 21:09Speaker 1: he'll just cut through things. And it was amazing how
- 21:12Speaker 1: he's done that in my life. But what he brought
- 21:14Speaker 1: out in that tape is that Satan will use doubt.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Uh, depression.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Uh, fear, worry, anxiety. Uh, he'll use those type of
- 21:27Speaker 1: things in an unexplained weird emotions. And it was exactly
- 21:31Speaker 1: the whole thing. And he said, when depression's there, it's
- 21:34Speaker 1: just kind of the, the powerhouse. And I had all
- 21:37Speaker 1: that going on, and I made my dad listen to it. I.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I flew to Arkansas from California to show, uh, and I,
- 21:43Speaker 1: when I got picked up at the airport, I put
- 21:44Speaker 1: it in the cassette player for her to hear, and
- 21:48Speaker 1: the tape got 8 on the spot. And I thought, oh, well,
- 21:50Speaker 1: I guess I'll just have to tell you what was
- 21:52Speaker 1: going on. But that tape was huge in my life.
- 21:55Speaker 1: So get Brian's book.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Because we don't make the cassette tapes anymore. But you know,
- 22:01Speaker 1: every time I hear that story, Bobby, it's just still,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I mean, and I think that the, the most, the
- 22:08Speaker 1: craziest thing about it is the lady gets the tape
- 22:11Speaker 1: in the mail that she doesn't even order and she says, yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I think this is for you. It's like, what?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Isn't that amazing? And it was the very thing that
- 22:22Speaker 1: God took me out of. I mean, he used your teaching.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I listened to that tape. I listened to that tape
- 22:29Speaker 1: probably more than anybody's ever listened to a single sermon
- 22:31Speaker 1: of yours. I just kept listening to it and listening,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and I, and I loved your voice because it was
- 22:36Speaker 1: just like very calming. You were just real chill, just
- 22:40Speaker 1: laying out the Bible, and I was like, oh man,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I love the way this guy teaches, and I just
- 22:45Speaker 1: chewed it all up.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I love it. Then 25 years later, we stumble into
- 22:51Speaker 1: each other. It's amazing. It's, it's incredible. And you know,
- 22:55Speaker 1: the other thing about all that too, I didn't ever
- 22:58Speaker 1: really know what to make sense of that, but that trial,
- 23:01Speaker 1: you know how that trial ended up helping me? Years later,
- 23:04Speaker 1: when I went through doubt, and I was in that
- 23:07Speaker 1: for like 10 years.
- 23:09Speaker 1: For whatever reason, the, the spiritual warfare was so powerful
- 23:13Speaker 1: that I couldn't even entertain atheism in my doubts because
- 23:18Speaker 1: I knew there was an unseen realm because of all
- 23:21Speaker 1: that happened. So sometimes God lets us go through a
- 23:23Speaker 1: trial in our life, and we don't even know what's
- 23:25Speaker 1: going on, and 20 years later, we'll be able to
- 23:27Speaker 1: make sense of it in light of another trial. Yeah, wow.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Anything to add, Brian? I mean, you wrote the book,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you recorded that tape. I did.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Um, well, you know, I, I do think that sometimes we.
- 23:41Speaker 1: We forget that that there really is a battle that
- 23:44Speaker 1: we are living in the midst of. And um I
- 23:48Speaker 1: think sometimes, I mean, obviously it's possible to sort of
- 23:54Speaker 1: overstate the case and, you know, some people get into
- 23:59Speaker 1: kind of a superstitious mode where sort of like everything's
- 24:01Speaker 1: the devil, you know, all the devil is and and
- 24:04Speaker 1: I think we we definitely want to be on our
- 24:06Speaker 1: guard against that, but
- 24:09Speaker 1: We also have to realize, no, there, there is a
- 24:11Speaker 1: battle and Paul in Ephesians chapter 6, verses 10 through,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know, 18, uh, he, he spells out the reality.
- 24:21Speaker 1: We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against these
- 24:25Speaker 1: forces of darkness and so forth. That's a, that's a
- 24:28Speaker 1: real thing. And so we want to recognize that it's
- 24:31Speaker 1: a real thing and we wanna
- 24:33Speaker 1: Uh, avail ourselves of the, the help that God's given
- 24:36Speaker 1: us through the what Paul there calls the armor of God,
- 24:39Speaker 1: which is essentially an understanding and application of God's word. So, yeah, but, um, I,
- 24:46Speaker 1: the book, I, you know, kind of updated. So anyway, yeah, the,
- 24:51Speaker 1: the tape series was originally um where it started.
- 24:56Speaker 1: But then I, I wrote a book based on that series,
- 24:59Speaker 1: and for many years it was just simply called Spiritual Warfare.
- 25:02Speaker 1: And then I changed the name to the Powers of
- 25:04Speaker 1: Darkness and the People of God. And I'm gonna do
- 25:07Speaker 1: an update in the near future and I'm gonna keep
- 25:10Speaker 1: the Powers of Darkness and the people of God, but
- 25:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna put the subtitle Spiritual Warfare because people, people
- 25:16Speaker 1: think like, no, I don't want that book Powers of Darkness,
- 25:18Speaker 1: People of God. I want your book Spiritual Warfare. It's like, well,
- 25:21Speaker 1: actually it is the same book. So it's expanded, but
- 25:24Speaker 1: it's the same book, so.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Yes, I was typing it up online just to get
- 25:28Speaker 1: the title and something else came up. Powers of Darkness,
- 25:31Speaker 1: The Lost Version of Dracula. That is not the book
- 25:33Speaker 1: you want. That is not Brian's book. No, it's the
- 25:36Speaker 1: Powers of Darkness and the people of God. That's Bram Stoker.
- 25:38Speaker 1: That's not me. Nope.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Hey, and for the record, for those that are watching, um, I,
- 25:43Speaker 1: my hair didn't turn white in the past year. Uh,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm not on my Ecam and I'm noticing it looks
- 25:49Speaker 1: like I've got like this completely head of white hair.
- 25:52Speaker 1: It's actually got a lot of brown left still, so
- 25:55Speaker 1: I'm kind of bummed about, like, the glowing effect. So,
- 25:59Speaker 1: just know that like the guy hasn't went that downhill
- 26:01Speaker 1: that bad in one year, because I'm, I'm sitting here going, wow,
- 26:05Speaker 1: these lights are popping on me, and I'm just looking,
- 26:07Speaker 1: it looks like.
- 26:08Speaker 1: It looks like Moses just came down from the mountain
- 26:10Speaker 1: in this moment, right? Pastor B.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's actually on our part now. We
- 26:17Speaker 1: have these new filters because we don't want anybody here
- 26:21Speaker 1: to feel like ageism is going on, so we all
- 26:24Speaker 1: need to look the same. Therefore, we all have gray hair.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Brian's hair is actually dark black, but on the program
- 26:35Speaker 1: it looks like he's gray.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Well, my identity is derived from Jesus and my due.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So when I saw it just being completely white light,
- 26:44Speaker 1: I thought this is, uh, an unfortunate moment. But we
- 26:47Speaker 1: just thought that was kind of like a, you know,
- 26:49Speaker 1: a halo, like a sort of a glow, a spirit
- 26:52Speaker 1: glow for sure.
- 26:56Speaker 1: 888-564-6173 is the number to call and in case you've
- 27:01Speaker 1: just tuned in right now and you're hearing Bobby Conway's
- 27:04Speaker 1: voice and you're thinking, oh, this must be a rerun,
- 27:06Speaker 1: Bobby Hayes isn't on the show anymore. Well, he's on today. So, uh,
- 27:09Speaker 1: call in. We still air his radio program, Christianity Still
- 27:13Speaker 1: Makes Sense on the weekends here on KWave. That's also
- 27:16Speaker 1: the name of his book. He's written a few books, um,
- 27:19Speaker 1: Doubting Toward Faith is another one, The Fifth Gospel. Any
- 27:23Speaker 1: other books in the works, Bobby?
- 27:26Speaker 1: No, um, I haven't been doing much writing. My biggest
- 27:30Speaker 1: thing right now is just, um, art, art. Yeah. That's, um,
- 27:34Speaker 1: my goal and my dream is to be able to
- 27:36Speaker 1: serve the church for free and use my gifts in
- 27:39Speaker 1: the church, but to be a full-time artist. And so,
- 27:42Speaker 1: that's kind of the dream. And so, yeah, I've started
- 27:47Speaker 1: another Instagram channel 3 months ago, Bobby Conway Art.
- 27:51Speaker 1: And so, um, if anybody would be willing to check
- 27:54Speaker 1: that out, you can see, uh, I'm putting out like
- 27:56Speaker 1: 10 videos a week, would love to have you guys
- 27:58Speaker 1: jump on and see what I'm up to. But yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 1: the goal is to start, um, eventually selling t-shirts and prints,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and I'm doing commission pieces, and teaching drawing courses, um,
- 28:11Speaker 1: and then just serving in the church faithfully. But right now, that,
- 28:14Speaker 1: that could take years for that dream to come true,
- 28:16Speaker 1: but it's become, um, something.
- 28:20Speaker 1: That I spend quite a bit of time focused on. Yeah, so,
- 28:24Speaker 1: so Bobby, is it, is it a, um, it's an Instagram.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Uh, what did you call it, an Instagram channel?
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's my Instagram account Bobby Conway Art. Yeah, is
- 28:37Speaker 1: it you're a subscriber to it? Is it videos or just, um,
- 28:41Speaker 1: just like a regular Instagram thing? Yeah, so like for example,
- 28:46Speaker 1: today I've been working on, uh,
- 28:50Speaker 1: Let's see here. Yeah, yeah, hold it in front of me. Yeah,
- 28:52Speaker 1: we can see it right there. Yeah, yeah. So I'm
- 28:54Speaker 1: working on the Steph Curry, but I'm videoing it. It's
- 28:57Speaker 1: not done, but what I'll do is I time lapse
- 29:01Speaker 1: it and so you can see the whole, maybe a
- 29:03Speaker 1: 20 hour drawing process come together in 30 seconds. That
- 29:08Speaker 1: is amazing. So that's a lot of fun. Yeah, I've,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I've watched those and I'm just like.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I mean, beside the, you know, just the extraordinary art gift,
- 29:19Speaker 1: I think this is a cool video. I saw you
- 29:21Speaker 1: do the Taylor Swift one and it was just cool
- 29:23Speaker 1: to see all the little, you know, all the little
- 29:25Speaker 1: bits and pieces that go into it.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah, the most amazing part is that he just picked
- 29:31Speaker 1: up a pencil, 2 years ago, 3 years ago, and
- 29:35Speaker 1: just so unfair. Yeah, it's just some guys have all
- 29:38Speaker 1: the luck. Some guys have all the great hair. Well, hey,
- 29:41Speaker 1: I was driving today and I was like, oh, I
- 29:43Speaker 1: like the sound of this song. I'm gonna see if
- 29:44Speaker 1: I can sing it.
- 29:46Speaker 1: So I turned it down and I sang out loud
- 29:48Speaker 1: for a moment, which I never do, and I said
- 29:51Speaker 1: out loud in the car, nope, you can't sing, and
- 29:53Speaker 1: I turned it back down. So I don't think it would,
- 29:56Speaker 1: it would require a bona fide miracle for me to sing. So, well,
- 30:00Speaker 1: that'll be, I don't have it. That'll be in your
- 30:01Speaker 1: next decade. I don't know. OK, we'll be right back
- 30:04Speaker 1: on Pastor's perspective.
- 30:14Speaker 1: We are back on Pastor's Perspective. I'm Brian Perez here
- 30:17Speaker 1: with Pastor Brian Broderson and our special guest, Doctor Bobby Conway.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Haven't had him on in a while, 2nd time this year,
- 30:25Speaker 1: I think. He was one of our regulars here on
- 30:27Speaker 1: the show. It's always good to have him back on
- 30:29Speaker 1: with us. So Bobby, good to see you. We were
- 30:31Speaker 1: Talking about his Instagram channel, Bobby Conway Art. You can
- 30:35Speaker 1: go check that out. Bobby. I'm watching right now in
- 30:38Speaker 1: your studio there up on the wall. It looks like
- 30:41Speaker 1: an Ella Langley portrait that you did, and I'm one
- 30:44Speaker 1: of the original Ella fellas, so I might have to
- 30:47Speaker 1: get that on a t-shirt or something. I don't know. Yeah,
- 30:50Speaker 1: that's Ella Langley. That's my son Dawson.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Uh, it's just kind of a cool picture that I
- 30:55Speaker 1: saw of a, I think it's a boy or a girl.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I can't tell which way, if you can see it all,
- 31:00Speaker 1: but yeah, yeah.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Is that Angelina Jolie on the left? Who's that? It
- 31:06Speaker 1: kind of looks like her. No, I, I don't know
- 31:08Speaker 1: who it is. I just saw this picture, and I
- 31:11Speaker 1: thought it was really cool, like this warrior, uh, girl.
- 31:16Speaker 1: And so, I draw, I try to go between guy, girl, guy, girl,
- 31:21Speaker 1: because if I, if I just draw all dudes, then
- 31:23Speaker 1: it would be like a little sexism.
- 31:25Speaker 1: So, I'll draw, I'll draw both. And I, and just
- 31:28Speaker 1: for the listeners too, I drew, my, my strategy is
- 31:31Speaker 1: I draw a lot of famous people, and the reason
- 31:33Speaker 1: that I do that is because that's not the long
- 31:37Speaker 1: term goal. If I draw a stranger, nobody knows.
- 31:41Speaker 1: That I can capture essence. So if I draw familiar faces,
- 31:45Speaker 1: then people know I can capture essence, and people search those,
- 31:49Speaker 1: those stars. So I'm drawing people. It doesn't make my
- 31:52Speaker 1: drawings are nothing to do with an endorsement of the,
- 31:55Speaker 1: of the people. It's just a face. And then eventually
- 31:59Speaker 1: when I grow enough, then I'll start creating faces out
- 32:02Speaker 1: of my own head.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Because you can't sell Taylor Swift when you're done, uh,
- 32:08Speaker 1: or whatever. So it's just part of the growth strategy,
- 32:10Speaker 1: because sometimes Christians will be like, oh, that's so ungodly,
- 32:13Speaker 1: you drew Mick Jagger. Well, look, I mean, he's a
- 32:16Speaker 1: human being, uh, you know, I mean, it's, it's, so you, it, it, it,
- 32:21Speaker 1: it doesn't mean that I'm like behind everything that Mick's
- 32:24Speaker 1: said and done, it just means that there's a cool picture,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and I appreciate the picture for the picture's sake.
- 32:30Speaker 1: So, Bobby, what's the um
- 32:33Speaker 1: You know, like the average.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Time, uh, frame for, for start from start to finish
- 32:42Speaker 1: with one of those portraits. I mean, they're, they're really
- 32:46Speaker 1: detailed and amazing. And I just, I just try to
- 32:49Speaker 1: imagine sometimes like, how long are you actually at this?
- 32:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, it takes a long time. I mean, I'm
- 32:57Speaker 1: getting up at, I mean, I was up at 2:30
- 32:59Speaker 1: in the morning yesterday, I'm, but that was earlier. And typically,
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'm up in the 4 o'clock hour. And I'm doing, I'm,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I'm going from 4 in the morning until 6 at
- 33:07Speaker 1: night in order to manage my church responsibilities and to
- 33:12Speaker 1: build this drawing, uh, opportunity. So, it can take like,
- 33:18Speaker 1: That Stephen Curry piece is a 5 by 7, and
- 33:21Speaker 1: that can end up taking 15 to 20 hours for
- 33:23Speaker 1: a piece that size. So, um, it's just insane, you know,
- 33:29Speaker 1: this was a commission piece that I, that I didn't fit,
- 33:32Speaker 1: that I messed up. I don't know if you can
- 33:34Speaker 1: see it. So I messed this up. This isn't the
- 33:37Speaker 1: final piece. It took me 7 times. Wait, that's something
- 33:40Speaker 1: you messed up. That's something you messed up.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Well, I'm an, I'm an aesthetic perfectionist, so, like, you
- 33:47Speaker 1: wanna see, you wanna see insanity.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I'll show it to you.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Watch this.
- 33:56Speaker 1: We love seeing insanity. Sting, I didn't like it. I
- 33:58Speaker 1: started over. I didn't like it. I started over. I
- 34:02Speaker 1: didn't like it. I started over. I didn't like it.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I started over. I didn't like it. I started over.
- 34:10Speaker 1: 6 stings, but I keep doing it until I get it.
- 34:14Speaker 1: But I think when you're trying to pursue hyperrealism, which
- 34:17Speaker 1: I think is, again, the classical music of art, it's
- 34:19Speaker 1: highly technical. I, you have to have a lot of patience.
- 34:23Speaker 1: So I, there's, there's an example of all my failures. So,
- 34:26Speaker 1: I actually am going to be doing posts about that,
- 34:28Speaker 1: because I don't want people to think, oh, you just
- 34:30Speaker 1: put together this great piece and it's done. No, a
- 34:32Speaker 1: lot of failure involved and frustration, where I even doubt myself.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Last week, I was doubting whether I was an artist.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Well, let us dispel the doubt. Yes, for sure, for sure.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I never doubt whether I'm an artist. I, I know
- 34:51Speaker 1: for sure I'm not. I have absolute clarity on that.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I think Brian and I can have stick figure drawing
- 34:57Speaker 1: competitions and, uh, yeah, you don't mind. Um, it's funny
- 35:02Speaker 1: because both of my daughters and my wife are, they're,
- 35:06Speaker 1: they're gifted in artistically like that, you know, they can
- 35:09Speaker 1: paint and draw and things like that.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Um, both of my sons are, I think, musically, you know, pretty,
- 35:17Speaker 1: pretty capable, both of them. And I got a little
- 35:20Speaker 1: bit of music and I, you know, kind of inspired them,
- 35:22Speaker 1: but I could only take them so far before it
- 35:26Speaker 1: was like they left Dad in the dust. Uh, but
- 35:28Speaker 1: apart from that, I just have, um, nothing, you know,
- 35:32Speaker 1: I love art and art stuff and
- 35:36Speaker 1: I mean, I can't even.
- 35:39Speaker 1: You know, make a clay.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Gumby
- 35:45Speaker 1: I bet you can. One day we'll sit down next
- 35:47Speaker 1: to each other and I'm gonna prove you wrong.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Well, I'll get some play-dough and we'll see how you do.
- 35:55Speaker 1: You know what though, for, uh, here's a, here's a,
- 35:57Speaker 1: here's a thought. Being in ministry for so many years,
- 36:01Speaker 1: you know, pursuing academics for 30 years with, you know, bachelor's, master's,
- 36:06Speaker 1: 2 doctorates, I mean, you can imagine all that obsession
- 36:09Speaker 1: and studies. And I didn't have a hobby. I mean,
- 36:12Speaker 1: I just, reading was my hobby. And you had like
- 36:16Speaker 1: surfing as a hobby. I just didn't have a hobby.
- 36:19Speaker 1: And
- 36:20Speaker 1: I didn't realize how much I paid a price for
- 36:23Speaker 1: not having a hobby. And how do you know when
- 36:26Speaker 1: it's a hobby? It's a hobby when you're able to
- 36:30Speaker 1: just be present and not look at the clock and
- 36:34Speaker 1: just be totally involved in the moment. In fact, when
- 36:37Speaker 1: you're doing your hobby, time goes by so fast, you
- 36:42Speaker 1: just can't believe what happened to it. And
- 36:44Speaker 1: You know, I just think it's important that we all
- 36:47Speaker 1: have a hobby in our life, because when you have
- 36:50Speaker 1: a space where you can just be present, it's good
- 36:53Speaker 1: for your mental health too. Yeah.
- 36:56Speaker 1: That is for sure. 888-564-6173 is our number. Rhonda, we'll
- 37:01Speaker 1: talk to you after we speak with Pete in San Pedro.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Hey Pete, what's your question for us today?
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yes, hi guys. My question is, um,
- 37:10Speaker 2: I came from it, it's coming from uh this pamphlet,
- 37:14Speaker 2: this notes I get from through the Bible, Dr. McGee,
- 37:18Speaker 2: and it was like, uh, talking about five reasons we
- 37:22Speaker 2: can know.
- 37:23Speaker 2: The Bible, we know the Bible is from God. OK,
- 37:28Speaker 2: my question is, the um.
- 37:31Speaker 2: The second one I think is uh we can know
- 37:34Speaker 2: the Bible is the word of God through, wait, no,
- 37:36Speaker 2: that's not it. OK, I'll, I'll try to save time.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I'll just get to the point. One of the, one
- 37:43Speaker 2: of the points he's talking about how he can know
- 37:47Speaker 2: that it is the word of God, and then he says, unfortunately,
- 37:53Speaker 2: it's not the number one selling book in the world anymore.
- 37:59Speaker 2: From my knowledge, I thought it always has been and
- 38:02Speaker 2: I was hoping it always will be, but my question is,
- 38:05Speaker 2: is that true? It's not. And if it's not, do
- 38:08Speaker 2: you know what is?
- 38:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we have always heard that statistic that the Bible
- 38:12Speaker 1: is the best selling book of all time. And it's true.
- 38:14Speaker 1: It is currently true and it has been true for
- 38:16Speaker 1: a long time. Well, Dr. McGee died in the 80s,
- 38:21Speaker 1: so you know, his information is gonna be a little
- 38:24Speaker 1: bit dated. And so I, you need to be careful
- 38:27Speaker 1: with that and maybe at that particular moment when he
- 38:32Speaker 1: was saying that, you know, he was very smart.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Guy and well informed. So, you know, there might have
- 38:38Speaker 1: been a, a brief season where that was the case. But, um,
- 38:44Speaker 1: The Bible is the best selling book of all time, and, uh,
- 38:50Speaker 1: every year it outsells everything else. So I think the
- 38:54Speaker 1: reason we might dispute this is because when we look
- 38:57Speaker 1: at the New York Times or something, their bestseller list,
- 39:00Speaker 1: it's not like the Bible has been number one or
- 39:03Speaker 1: anything like that, but I just did a quick search online.
- 39:06Speaker 1: According to AI, which take that with a grain of salt,
- 39:08Speaker 1: but
- 39:09Speaker 1: According to Guinness World Records, an estimated 5 to 7
- 39:13Speaker 1: billion copies of the Bible have been sold and distributed
- 39:16Speaker 1: over the last 1500 years. So, I mean, that's an
- 39:20Speaker 1: amazing figure right there. And the top line there, uh, yes,
- 39:23Speaker 1: the Christian Bible is the best selling and most distributed
- 39:26Speaker 1: book of all time. And, and I know that this
- 39:29Speaker 1: is the case right now because I just did, um,
- 39:32Speaker 1: I did a lecture back in the summer in England.
- 39:36Speaker 1: And I did a lecture on William Tyndale, who was
- 39:38Speaker 1: a translator of the English Bible, and um I did
- 39:42Speaker 1: it with the Bible Society in the UK and you know,
- 39:46Speaker 1: those stats were exactly what theirs were. So Pete, thanks
- 39:51Speaker 1: for calling us today here on Pastor's Perspective. Now we'll
- 39:54Speaker 1: talk to Rhonda in Fontana. It looks like a follow-up question. Hey, Rhonda,
- 39:58Speaker 1: what's your uh question for us today?
- 40:02Speaker 2: Hi, um
- 40:04Speaker 2: Actually, it's kind of about spiritual warfare, but it's not
- 40:07Speaker 2: really a question. Uh, I loved your conversation. I loved
- 40:11Speaker 2: hearing Bobby's, uh, story about it. Uh, I love Bobby's drawings.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I've seen them. Um, anyway, um, you're welcome.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Um,
- 40:25Speaker 2: I kind of wanted to tell you guys so you
- 40:27Speaker 2: can pray. I've been kind of under some weird spiritual warfare. Uh,
- 40:33Speaker 2: I work for a school district, so we've been back
- 40:35Speaker 2: to school since August 5th or 6th, something like that.
- 40:40Speaker 2: And since then till now I've been in 3 car
- 40:43Speaker 2: accidents on the way to or on the way home
- 40:48Speaker 2: from work.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Wow. Uh, 2 of them were rear-ending and one of
- 40:54Speaker 2: them was, um, in a parking lot.
- 40:58Speaker 2: And for the last two, which was the parking lot
- 41:01Speaker 2: and the rear ending, um, I've had to get lawyers
- 41:06Speaker 2: and I have never had to deal with lawyers. So, um, yeah,
- 41:11Speaker 2: because the, the parking lot guy where from the pictures
- 41:14Speaker 2: I have, it's pretty obvious who hit who, but either way, and, uh,
- 41:19Speaker 2: he was trying to say it was 100% my fault.
- 41:21Speaker 2: And so then he got a lawyer and I'm like, what?
- 41:25Speaker 2: I gotta get one now too.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Um, and then the last one that I had happened
- 41:31Speaker 2: on September 11th.
- 41:34Speaker 2: And uh that was, I was at a signal, stopped
- 41:40Speaker 2: at a light and um
- 41:43Speaker 2: She rear-ended me and I went to turn into the
- 41:46Speaker 2: parking lot and I thought I saw following me, but
- 41:49Speaker 2: then she ended up taking off.
- 41:52Speaker 2: And at first I was like, great, a hit and run. Now,
- 41:54Speaker 2: what is this gonna do to me? But I had
- 41:56Speaker 2: a good Samaritan guy. He came up a little bit
- 41:59Speaker 2: later and he said, Are you the one that got rear-ended?
- 42:02Speaker 2: I said, yes, I am. And he said, I got
- 42:05Speaker 2: a picture and you can take my name and number.
- 42:08Speaker 2: This is the license plate. Here's my name and number
- 42:10Speaker 2: for witness. So I said, oh, I'm gonna get a
- 42:13Speaker 2: lawyer for this one too.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Man.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I don't know if it's right or not, but
- 42:19Speaker 2: Um,
- 42:21Speaker 1: Hey, one piece of advice on that, and I'm sorry
- 42:23Speaker 1: you're getting in these car accidents, uh, that I've, I've
- 42:26Speaker 1: been in several when I was young, and it made
- 42:30Speaker 1: me very nervous to drive for a long time, and
- 42:32Speaker 1: it's crazy how vulnerable we are. But my son was rear-ended,
- 42:36Speaker 1: and in hindsight, uh, it's possible you're gonna get a
- 42:40Speaker 1: call from a lawyer and they're gonna try to settle
- 42:42Speaker 1: with you.
- 42:43Speaker 1: And they're gonna lowball something. Um, I don't know if
- 42:46Speaker 1: you're injured. My, my son had some difficult issues going
- 42:51Speaker 1: on with his back.
- 42:52Speaker 1: And I think sometimes what ends up happening is, uh,
- 42:56Speaker 1: they'll make it sound like, oh, you know, just take
- 42:58Speaker 1: this or leave it. And then sometimes people will take
- 43:01Speaker 1: a lot less, but then they might struggle with lifelong pain. So, really, um, get,
- 43:06Speaker 1: get some legal advice about what to accept and what
- 43:10Speaker 1: not to accept, so that if there has been like injury.
- 43:15Speaker 1: That's going to require a lot of adjustment, you're compensated
- 43:19Speaker 1: for that. Um, obviously, if there's not that kind of
- 43:24Speaker 1: a thing going on, then, you know, we don't just
- 43:25Speaker 1: want to milk the system. But sometimes people have genuine injuries,
- 43:30Speaker 1: and they can use the help, and then they're cheated
- 43:33Speaker 1: out of that opportunity because maybe they didn't have legal counsel. Yeah.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Yeah, for the first, um, accident, it was another rear end,
- 43:41Speaker 2: but she stayed, she was really nice. But, um,
- 43:45Speaker 2: I ended up settling real quickly with that one because
- 43:49Speaker 2: I wasn't really hurt that bad. But then the other two,
- 43:53Speaker 2: which have kind of impounded the pain that I had
- 43:56Speaker 2: from the first one, I'm like, I'm not gonna settle
- 43:58Speaker 2: on these ones because now I have neck and upper
- 44:02Speaker 2: back pain that I've never had to deal with before. Yeah. So.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Um, I do have a lawyer, but
- 44:13Speaker 2: I don't know. I haven't heard much from him. It's
- 44:16Speaker 2: kind of like he's giving me the, give us the
- 44:18Speaker 2: paperwork and we'll get back to them. Like, it's how
- 44:21Speaker 2: it's supposed to be, or are they supposed to call
- 44:23Speaker 2: me more?
- 44:24Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 44:27Speaker 1: So you're calling basically just for prayer because of everything
- 44:30Speaker 1: that's been going on these past 2 to 8 weeks
- 44:33Speaker 1: or something.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 2: But it feels like it's spiritual.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Warfare because like even this last weekend, I, I was
- 44:43Speaker 2: struggling with my depression, which I deal with, and I'm like,
- 44:47Speaker 2: what is this? What is this? And at first I
- 44:50Speaker 2: was like almost to it and then I'm like, no,
- 44:54Speaker 2: he's at it again, stupid devil. You know, he's trying
- 44:59Speaker 2: to mess me up. And after the, the 3rd accident,
- 45:01Speaker 2: I was, I was actually in the car by myself
- 45:04Speaker 2: and I was like, I'm still gonna have faith in God.
- 45:07Speaker 2: I don't care what you do.
- 45:08Speaker 2: My faith is strong and this little accident is not
- 45:12Speaker 2: gonna turn me away from God. So why don't you
- 45:14Speaker 2: just stop right now?
- 45:16Speaker 1: If only it were that easy, right? Brian, would you
- 45:18Speaker 1: pray for Rhonda? Yeah, sure. Lord, we do pray for
- 45:22Speaker 1: Rhonda and um, you know, it could be that there
- 45:25Speaker 1: is something going on here with warfare with these um
- 45:31Speaker 1: kind of back to back accidents and things like that.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And with the depression and all that, Lord, we know
- 45:39Speaker 1: that the enemy has lots of different uh tactics and things. So.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Wherever he's active in regard to Rhonda, we pray that
- 45:51Speaker 1: you would just push back on the enemy and um
- 45:56Speaker 1: Keep her um.
- 45:59Speaker 1: In your care, watch over her, guard her, keep her.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Thank you, Lord, that um.
- 46:05Speaker 1: You are in us and greater is the one in
- 46:08Speaker 1: us than the one in the world. And so pray
- 46:12Speaker 1: that she wouldn't be overly concerned or fearful in regard
- 46:16Speaker 1: to the warfare, but just recognizing that it does exist
- 46:20Speaker 1: and recognizing that you're the one that will um
- 46:25Speaker 1: Help us through it, so do that for her, we pray.
- 46:29Speaker 1: In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Amen. Rhonda. Thanks for calling
- 46:34Speaker 1: us today here on Pastor's Perspective. And yeah, those hit
- 46:38Speaker 1: and run accidents are the worst. I was in one
- 46:42Speaker 1: a few months ago and a person just took off
- 46:44Speaker 1: and I'm thinking.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Wait a minute. So I chased her down because I'm
- 46:49Speaker 1: just crazy that way. But, uh, you know, at first
- 46:52Speaker 1: she was like, I didn't hit you. I didn't hit you.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Then I'm, I hadn't even started talking to her about anything.
- 46:56Speaker 1: She's like, Why are you chasing me? Who are you?
- 46:59Speaker 1: I didn't hit you. And I'm like, Wait, wait, wait.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I haven't even said that you hit me, so I
- 47:04Speaker 1: don't know. People are nuts, but whatever it seems, it seems,
- 47:09Speaker 1: I mean, people are nuts. It does seem like the
- 47:11Speaker 1: hit and run thing is more common today than it's
- 47:14Speaker 1: ever been. Just like it almost always happens. People are like, yeah,
- 47:18Speaker 1: I just crashed into that guy, but I'm getting out
- 47:20Speaker 1: of here, you know.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and then there's times where people take off and
- 47:24Speaker 1: they don't even know if they killed somebody or not.
- 47:26Speaker 1: It's like, how do you live with that? Like, you could,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you could be tormented the rest of your life because
- 47:30Speaker 1: you took off wondering, did the person even survive the accident,
- 47:34Speaker 1: and you don't even know. Um, it's just a, it's
- 47:37Speaker 1: just a mess. Like we shouldn't operate like that.
- 47:40Speaker 1: All because they were watching a YouTube video while driving,
- 47:45Speaker 1: you know, I could have waited till you got home.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. That's just me. Abigail in
- 47:51Speaker 1: Hemet listening to K Wave and calling in to 888-564-6173. Hello.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Hi, how are you?
- 48:00Speaker 1: Doing well, thanks. What's going on?
- 48:03Speaker 2: Um, uh, my husband is here too, and my family
- 48:07Speaker 2: and I, him, me and my stepson, um, started a
- 48:10Speaker 2: family Bible study, and we're, um, our study guide is
- 48:14Speaker 2: 52 weeks through the Bible by John MacArthur, and then
- 48:20Speaker 2: we were studying Genesis 3 the other day, and we're
- 48:24Speaker 2: all wondering how
- 48:26Speaker 2: Did this serpent get there and if he was possessed
- 48:32Speaker 2: or if it was possessed by
- 48:35Speaker 2: Lucifer, right? Is that your question? Yeah, yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 1: That's all right.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So Brian, what do you say?
- 48:44Speaker 1: Ah, yes, of course, that is the case, um.
- 48:48Speaker 1: As to how all we know is that apparently before.
- 48:57Speaker 1: The um.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Creation of human beings. Um, the, the person that we
- 49:04Speaker 1: call the devil, devil means slanderer, um, had already rebelled
- 49:09Speaker 1: against God. So in two passages in the Old Testament, uh,
- 49:13Speaker 1: Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28, we kind of are given
- 49:17Speaker 1: a little bit of a
- 49:20Speaker 1: Of a look behind the curtain at what happened with
- 49:26Speaker 1: the fall of the of Lucifer, we can we can
- 49:30Speaker 1: call him Lucifer. Um, there's some, some debate about that
- 49:35Speaker 1: that word, but it's, it's no big deal. Um, so,
- 49:39Speaker 1: you know, the recording of of the fall of Lucifer
- 49:42Speaker 1: comes in those chapters. And then we know from
- 49:48Speaker 1: Further revelation, say, in the New Testament, Jesus says, I
- 49:53Speaker 1: saw Satan fall as lightning from heaven. And um, and
- 49:57Speaker 1: then we go further into the New Testament, we find
- 50:01Speaker 1: in the book of Revelation, you know, we have references
- 50:04Speaker 1: to the serpent, the dragon, and the serpent of old
- 50:09Speaker 1: who is the devil in Satan. So, um, the, the
- 50:13Speaker 1: scriptures identify the creature in the garden as
- 50:18Speaker 1: Satan as the adversary or the devil, the slanderer, um,
- 50:24Speaker 1: and just exactly, you know, how
- 50:29Speaker 1: All of that developed with the um this spirit possessing
- 50:36Speaker 1: this um creature.
- 50:38Speaker 1: is beyond us. We don't know because the Bible doesn't
- 50:42Speaker 1: tell us. It just simply says that, um,
- 50:46Speaker 1: The serpent was more subtle than the other beast, and
- 50:49Speaker 1: the serpent said to the woman,
- 50:51Speaker 1: And so, um, you know, and the word serpent, there
- 50:55Speaker 1: is even a word that is not necessarily uh serpent,
- 51:02Speaker 1: although it can be serpent. Uh, some translated the shining one.
- 51:07Speaker 1: So there's some mystery around it, but not mystery as
- 51:11Speaker 1: to who it is, but mystery as to how it
- 51:14Speaker 1: all came about. Bobby, what do you think?
- 51:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's good. I mean, when I'm reading
- 51:22Speaker 1: Genesis 3, I think I'm looking for, on an application level, um,
- 51:28Speaker 1: how do we resist temptation, because that Genesis 3 story
- 51:33Speaker 1: repeats itself several times a day in many of our lives,
- 51:38Speaker 1: and the principles are there. We are to be aware that, well,
- 51:42Speaker 1: what does Satan do? He, well, he twists scripture.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Uh, did God actually say, um, he'll exaggerate it or
- 51:49Speaker 1: he'll eliminate it. Um, and so he'll even say things
- 51:53Speaker 1: like in that text, um, you're not gonna die. So,
- 51:57Speaker 1: in other words, there's not gonna be consequences for your action. You're, you, so,
- 52:02Speaker 1: what will Satan do? He'll twist God's word, he'll tell
- 52:05Speaker 1: you there's not gonna be any consequences. He'll make it
- 52:08Speaker 1: look really appealing, and then he'll take off on you
- 52:12Speaker 1: once you.
- 52:14Speaker 1: You know, take the bait. So I do think it's
- 52:17Speaker 1: important that we know God's word. What's interesting in Matthew 4,
- 52:21Speaker 1: when Jesus is tempted by the evil one in the wilderness,
- 52:25Speaker 1: Um, you know, Satan tempts them using Deuteronomy on 3
- 52:29Speaker 1: different occasions, twisting the scripture, and Jesus was able to
- 52:34Speaker 1: rebuke that and be able to resist what was going on.
- 52:37Speaker 1: And I think, wow. Well, if we were being tempted
- 52:41Speaker 1: based on our knowledge of the Book of Deuteronomy, how
- 52:44Speaker 1: well would we do?
- 52:46Speaker 1: You know, so we need to know God's word, so
- 52:49Speaker 1: that we can discern when the enemy's twisting scripture, and
- 52:53Speaker 1: he does it today. I see so many people that
- 52:55Speaker 1: have caved into the culture, and then they have this Luke, uh,
- 53:00Speaker 1: this wishy-washy view of scripture that's rooted in their feelings,
- 53:04Speaker 1: and it's obvious that the enemy is using scripture in
- 53:07Speaker 1: a twisted way, and they have failed to discern the truth,
- 53:11Speaker 1: and as a result, we have to clean up the
- 53:13Speaker 1: mess in the Christian community.
- 53:15Speaker 1: It is, as it relates to some of the poor
- 53:17Speaker 1: doctrines that are out there because of this.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Abigail, does this help you and your family?
- 53:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it does. Yeah, we also compared it with um
- 53:27Speaker 2: Matthew 4 somehow it's like a spirit, and then we're
- 53:31Speaker 2: just wondering too like why of all animals it was
- 53:33Speaker 2: the serpent, but I guess it's not really, it's not clear.
- 53:37Speaker 2: It's not that clear or it's not, it's not the
- 53:40Speaker 2: first snake.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and, and you know, like I said, the, the
- 53:43Speaker 1: Hebrew word sometimes people will translate it the shining one,
- 53:47Speaker 1: and then, um, dragon is also the way um he
- 53:52Speaker 1: is referred to.
- 53:54Speaker 1: As well. Um, you know, we think, I think we
- 53:57Speaker 1: mostly think of a serpent, a snake, you know, crawling
- 53:59Speaker 1: on the ground. But the interesting thing is, it was
- 54:02Speaker 1: a result of the curse that, um, God says to
- 54:06Speaker 1: this creature, you shall now go on your belly, and
- 54:12Speaker 1: dust shall be your food all the days of your life.
- 54:15Speaker 1: So apparently that wasn't the case before. And um, so yeah, it's,
- 54:20Speaker 1: it's one of those mystery things that we just
- 54:23Speaker 1: You know, so you see a snake today and you're like,
