- 0:05Speaker 2: You're never gonna guess.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to you Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark
- 0:24Speaker 1: review podcast. I'm Megan, and I'm a lifelong Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm Wendy, and I found myself gleefully settling into a
- 0:33Speaker 1: Hallmark movie on a Sunday afternoon, and I asked myself,
- 0:36Speaker 1: who have I become? Today we're discussing a Pinch of Portugal,
- 0:40Speaker 1: which originally aired on the Hallmark Channel on April twenty second.
- 0:45Speaker 1: If you want to connect with us outside of the podcast,
- 0:48Speaker 1: we would love for you to follow us on Instagram.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You can find us both as at Girls Gone Hallmark
- 0:54Speaker 1: and at Megan and Wendy. Come jump into our Facebook
- 0:58Speaker 1: group Girls Gone Hallmark. Lots of talk happening over there
- 1:02Speaker 1: today with some breaking Hallmark news. Should we discuss said
- 1:07Speaker 1: breaking Hallmarks? Sure so over the weekend. Hallmark, in a
- 1:13Speaker 1: very casual way, dropped the news in a comment on
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Facebook page that the Mystery
- 1:24Speaker 1: one O one franchise is coupute. They have solved their
- 1:28Speaker 1: final mystery. They didn't make an official announcement. They just
- 1:31Speaker 1: made the announcement in response to many comments. And they
- 1:34Speaker 1: made the same announcement over and over again. And mister
- 1:37Speaker 1: Pola himself confirmed that this morning in a tweet. So
- 1:41Speaker 1: do you think he's known for some time, like this
- 1:44Speaker 1: isn't new news to him? Well, here's what I wonder.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Does Hallmark ever say we're done with this franchise to
- 1:51Speaker 1: the actors or do they just not call them back
- 1:54Speaker 1: for the franchise. I don't know. That's very interesting because
- 1:58Speaker 1: in early March he had given an interview when asked
- 2:02Speaker 1: about mystery one on one continuing, and he was like,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I'd love to still could work do it, but it's
- 2:08Speaker 1: up to Hallmark. So but who knows if that's just
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know, the answer to give or what. I don't know.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I mean, I think Hallmark loves him, yes, so I
- 2:21Speaker 1: think maybe they probably told him because there's some intel
- 2:25Speaker 1: coming out that like he's working on another mystery mystery
- 2:29Speaker 1: franchise for the channel. So a peek behind the Girl's
- 2:33Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark curtain. We have released our summer schedule and
- 2:37Speaker 1: up first in our summer schedule of throwback movies is
- 2:41Speaker 1: the Mystery one on one Pilot, And we have already
- 2:45Speaker 1: recorded our review of that episode, and we recorded it
- 2:48Speaker 1: prior to this news breaking where we wondered will there
- 2:51Speaker 1: be an eighth movie And the answer to that question
- 2:54Speaker 1: is no. However, we did blow the lid wide off
- 2:57Speaker 1: this mystery. I mean, you solve the mystery of Mystery
- 3:02Speaker 1: one oh one. You know, Jill Wagner has not worked
- 3:06Speaker 1: for Hallmark in a couple of years. She has worked
- 3:10Speaker 1: for Great American Family. There's no official statement that she's
- 3:15Speaker 1: signed an exclusive contract with that network, but perhaps Hallmark
- 3:20Speaker 1: is just done with the actors that have made their
- 3:24Speaker 1: way South. Yeah. Maybe I don't I don't know. We
- 3:28Speaker 1: don't know. I think that mystery may remain unsolved. I
- 3:34Speaker 1: want to circle back to last week's review of the
- 3:36Speaker 1: Wedding Cottage. Yes, if you recall, we wondered if a
- 3:40Speaker 1: soldier could still serve if they had a prosthetic limb.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Remember I do remember, Okay, So listener Paula messaged yess
- 3:49Speaker 1: and she said, quote, yes, you can continue in the
- 3:52Speaker 1: military with a prosthetic limb. Approval is done on a
- 3:56Speaker 1: case by case basis. The person may have to change jobs.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Prosthetic limbs have come a long way, which the last
- 4:04Speaker 1: part of that statement is unsurprising to me. People compete
- 4:08Speaker 1: in yeah, the Olympics, mm hmm with prosthetic limbs. So indeed,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and now we know, so now we know. Yep, I
- 4:15Speaker 1: wonder if you could be a pilot. You know, you
- 4:16Speaker 1: can't be a pilot if you have like adhd Oh,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I didn't know that. I thought you couldn't be a
- 4:20Speaker 1: pilot if you like wore glasses. But that's I don't know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: ridiculous too, doesn't it. Oh what if your glasses break
- 4:27Speaker 1: mid flight? Don't put that anxiety into the universe for me? Please.
- 4:32Speaker 1: You know I don't like to travel and I don't
- 4:33Speaker 1: like to fly. And now that's what I'm gonna think about.
- 4:35Speaker 1: No oh, no, the pilot's glass is breaking. Well, that's
- 4:38Speaker 1: why it's a co pilot. Yeah, then he like bends
- 4:40Speaker 1: over the plane dips down. Abad he just reenacted what
- 4:46Speaker 1: that moment would look like. Let's do a synopsis for
- 4:50Speaker 1: a pinch of Portugal. Okay, when is celebrity chef walks
- 4:53Speaker 1: off his show, prep cook Ani must step into the
- 4:56Speaker 1: spotlight and make the show her own. What the hell
- 5:00Speaker 1: of her? Azzy cameraman? And Portuguese location scout starring Heather
- 5:05Speaker 1: Hemans and Luke Mitchell. Portuguese locations that Okay, getting this synopsis?
- 5:10Speaker 1: I got it from the Hallmark channel dot com. Oh,
- 5:13Speaker 1: usually they're kind of wackier on IMDb, so I tend
- 5:17Speaker 1: to go to the source. Yeah, I don't her Portuguese
- 5:21Speaker 1: location scout is that Brooklyn don't know? Or is that
- 5:24Speaker 1: the other lady? Or is it the cute guy with
- 5:27Speaker 1: a smile that turned out to be a creep. Well,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I mean, let's talk about all these people. First up,
- 5:32Speaker 1: we have Heather Hemmons, who plays Anna. She has twenty
- 5:36Speaker 1: five acting credits to her name, including from Hallmark Caribbean
- 5:41Speaker 1: Summer Christmas in My Heart and Her non Hallmark acting
- 5:44Speaker 1: credits include a recurring role on Roswell New Mexico, which
- 5:48Speaker 1: has been canceled four seasons. She had four seasons as
- 5:51Speaker 1: Maria There the show I've never seen. I watched the
- 5:54Speaker 1: first episode. You didn't like it. I'm a quitter, okay.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Luke Mitchell plays Caman Russ. I don't think his name
- 6:02Speaker 1: is Luke Mitchell I think his name is Luke Mitchell.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Well that is funny. You know why there's too many
- 6:09Speaker 1: Lukes in this movie? I have his name is Luke Russell,
- 6:12Speaker 1: but his name in this show is Russ. His name
- 6:14Speaker 1: is Luke Mitchell. I thank you. Isn't it weird how
- 6:19Speaker 1: there's an actor named Luke Russell and there's a Luke
- 6:22Speaker 1: Anna Russ in this Gosh? All right, tell me about
- 6:26Speaker 1: Luke Mitchell. Luke Mitchell plays cameraman Russ. Like I said before,
- 6:29Speaker 1: he has only eighteen acting credits, but the dude has
- 6:32Speaker 1: worked a lot. Thirteen episodes on a show called Big Sky,
- 6:37Speaker 1: which is like network television ABC, fifty two episodes of
- 6:41Speaker 1: Blind Spot, another Network TV show, and from two thousand
- 6:46Speaker 1: and nine to twenty thirteen, he's credited with six hundred
- 6:49Speaker 1: and seven to three episodes of an Australian soap opera,
- 6:52Speaker 1: CULP Home and Away. Dude has been busy. Someone in
- 6:56Speaker 1: our Facebook group called him Hallmark Thor and that's I'm
- 6:59Speaker 1: never gonna be able to see it. Oh, okay, I
- 7:02Speaker 1: have some thoughts about him. Later on. I did wonder
- 7:05Speaker 1: like at first I could not tell where his accent
- 7:08Speaker 1: was from. He felt immediately Australian to me. Really, I
- 7:12Speaker 1: was like, he also says it very early in the movie.
- 7:14Speaker 1: He does, but when I was early hearing him talk,
- 7:16Speaker 1: I was like, is that an accent? What am I hearing?
- 7:19Speaker 1: I don't want to know what I'm hearing here, Okay,
- 7:21Speaker 1: but I have some thoughts on him later. This movie
- 7:23Speaker 1: was written by Nicole Baxter. She has seventeen writing credits
- 7:28Speaker 1: all Hallmark movies written since twenty seventeen. Well, movies that
- 7:33Speaker 1: have aired since twenty seventeen. I can't place when she
- 7:36Speaker 1: wrote them, but that's quite a few movies in a
- 7:38Speaker 1: six year span. Mm hmmm. She wrote last year's We
- 7:41Speaker 1: Wish You and Married Christmas Too, which we liked very much,
- 7:44Speaker 1: indeed starrying Christopher Polaham. This was directed by Claire nieder
- 7:50Speaker 1: Pruam nieder Prum Okay. She has an impressive lineup of
- 7:54Speaker 1: Hallmark movies on her resin May, including A Royal Corky Christmas.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I didn't watch that last Christmas one December night. I
- 8:02Speaker 1: think I did watch that train yeah, oh yeah. Taking
- 8:06Speaker 1: the Reins a movie I liked a lot. Nikki de Loochin,
- 8:09Speaker 1: Scott Order and as luck would have it. Do you
- 8:12Speaker 1: remember that one? Yeah, we rode hard for that movie
- 8:14Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. Did we like it? We loved it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I can't recall loved it, Joanna Garcia. We loved it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: We told people they should seek it out, even if
- 8:23Speaker 1: they weren't Hallmark movie fans. I don't remember that. I
- 8:26Speaker 1: don't remember much, but I specifically remember that movie. I
- 8:29Speaker 1: don't remember much, but villain Lucas is played by Duarte Gomez,
- 8:33Speaker 1: mostly previously in Portuguese series and telenovela. Oh look, I
- 8:41Speaker 1: think he had a real nice smile. Now, I know
- 8:43Speaker 1: you thought he was a big creep in this movie,
- 8:46Speaker 1: which he was. I did think he had a nice smile.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I thought he was very handsome. But he gave me
- 8:50Speaker 1: villain vibes from first meeting. Where's the camera crew? Where's
- 8:55Speaker 1: the camera crew? Yeah? You knew it right then, right?
- 8:57Speaker 1: YEA too smooth, too smooth. I would like to just
- 9:02Speaker 1: mention Johnna ds Watson, who plays Brooklyn, for acting credits
- 9:08Speaker 1: I are and I was shocked by that because I
- 9:11Speaker 1: loved her. I really enjoyed her a lot, including in
- 9:14Speaker 1: those acting credits. Were eight episodes of the Netflix hit
- 9:18Speaker 1: Wednesday the show I did not watch my teenage daughter did.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I watched too and loved it. I thought she was
- 9:24Speaker 1: great in this I agree. One final note. This movie
- 9:28Speaker 1: was filmed on location in Lisbon, Portugal and other nearby locations.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I have an actual final note, and that is that
- 9:35Speaker 1: the actor Darren Day, who plays Jeff Dean, his IMDb
- 9:40Speaker 1: is essentially empty. He is a theater actor who was
- 9:42Speaker 1: in a number of productions in London's West End. He
- 9:45Speaker 1: also appeared on the twenty sixteen season of Celebrity British
- 9:50Speaker 1: Big Brother, where he finished third. Did you notice how
- 9:53Speaker 1: like curly his eyelashes were? It did not. It did
- 9:56Speaker 1: not officially make my did you see that? But I
- 9:59Speaker 1: did notice at the very beginning of the movie like
- 10:01Speaker 1: man's eyelashes were curled. Tell me what your first impression
- 10:05Speaker 1: of this movie was. I had no idea my moody
- 10:08Speaker 1: teenage daughter was cast in this movie. Oh, I'm trying
- 10:12Speaker 1: to figure out who she is Brooklyn. I just loved Brooklyn,
- 10:17Speaker 1: so did I bet at her first around. I loved
- 10:20Speaker 1: her at the end, but like at first she like
- 10:23Speaker 1: sculked around. I was like, yeah, that person lives in
- 10:26Speaker 1: my house. My first impression is let's go to Portugal.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Totally that too. Wendy last week was like, I need
- 10:34Speaker 1: to go on vacation and what that means for us
- 10:36Speaker 1: is like a couple days away and then easy to
- 10:38Speaker 1: travel to location. But I was like, maybe we should
- 10:41Speaker 1: go to Portugal. Let's go. I would like a food
- 10:44Speaker 1: tour of Portugal. Please. Oh, I have some thoughts on that.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I have some thoughts. That's really funny you brought that up.
- 10:51Speaker 1: We are going to talk about that. Let's talk about
- 10:54Speaker 1: what we like, all right. Can I go first? Please?
- 10:58Speaker 1: I enjoyed this movie. Yeah, scenery, the Portuguese language, the food, porn,
- 11:04Speaker 1: the actors. I thought it was a nice movie. I
- 11:09Speaker 1: liked Heather Himmons enough to watch her in another Homewark movie.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I did. I watch Caribbean Summer last year. I don't recall, okay,
- 11:18Speaker 1: but I liked her, yeah a lot. She was great. Actually.
- 11:21Speaker 1: With James Denton and Christmas in my Heart, I think
- 11:24Speaker 1: that's who's in Christmas in my Heart. Oh, No, James
- 11:26Speaker 1: Denton or James Tuper. Not James Tupper. I guess James Denton.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I'm telling you. Our DNA is forever changed. It's neither
- 11:36Speaker 1: of those people. Guess who it is. Guess who it is.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Guess who it is. Guess who it is.
- 11:40Speaker 2: You're never gonna guess.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Nile Mater Liveman Farland. I'm sorry, Luke. I enjoyed that
- 11:49Speaker 1: movie with the two of them, James Farlotte, there's we
- 11:54Speaker 1: have the same hair so little. Oh my god, two
- 11:56Speaker 1: white dudes with a little bit of like a spiky hair,
- 11:59Speaker 1: so going on, I enjoy them both. Okay, what did
- 12:04Speaker 1: you like? I have a lot of likes, but let
- 12:06Speaker 1: me tell you that I liked that. I didn't know
- 12:10Speaker 1: how this movie was gonna end. No, hear me out.
- 12:12Speaker 1: The movie poster features only Heather. There's no male co
- 12:17Speaker 1: star on the poster. I have read the synopsis for
- 12:20Speaker 1: this movie, but it was months ago in preparing for
- 12:23Speaker 1: content for our website. Didn't reread it prior to watching
- 12:26Speaker 1: the movie. You can pretty much go into a Hallmark
- 12:28Speaker 1: movie without any prior information. I didn't need it, so
- 12:31Speaker 1: I didn't actually know who the love interest costar is.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And we're dealing with two actors, both Luke Mitchell and
- 12:40Speaker 1: Dori te Gomes, neither of whom were Hallmark leading men.
- 12:43Speaker 1: So it wasn't immediately obvious. It's not like I've got
- 12:47Speaker 1: a Luke McFarlane on set with her and I know
- 12:50Speaker 1: immediately he's going to be the guy. Right, I didn't
- 12:52Speaker 1: know who the guy was, and I feel like they
- 12:55Speaker 1: did a little bit of misdirection at the beginning when
- 12:57Speaker 1: her mother comments about Russ and she's like, we've already
- 13:01Speaker 1: been there, we know that's not a match, and I
- 13:03Speaker 1: was like, Oh, this is just gonna be her super
- 13:06Speaker 1: hot buddy. Yeah, super hot wing man. And as we
- 13:10Speaker 1: arrive in Portugal and we get Lucas when she arrives
- 13:14Speaker 1: to meet him and he's like, where's the camera croo,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm like, don't like this guy. And I was immediately
- 13:21Speaker 1: set up in this like what what does he want?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Because he just was kind of a no at all.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And once I realized the direction of the movie was going,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I was thrilled. But I liked going in not knowing
- 13:35Speaker 1: who's gonna be the guy, kind of a something we
- 13:38Speaker 1: haven't seen in a minute, right, It's typically unusual. Sometimes
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's very obvious who the bad guy who's going to
- 13:45Speaker 1: be on their way out is. That was a little
- 13:47Speaker 1: bit of a different experience for me. Okay, what else.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So the one thing I really liked about this movie
- 13:53Speaker 1: is that there was I like that there's like no
- 13:56Speaker 1: real drama surrounding the coupling between Anna, yeah us, yes,
- 14:03Speaker 1: like they have like oh we tried, now we're like close,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and it was just like this like natural progression that
- 14:10Speaker 1: they just liked each other. Right, there's no manufactured conflicts exactly. However,
- 14:15Speaker 1: I do find that there was like there's nothing fiery
- 14:18Speaker 1: or passionate about it, which is fine, Like not every
- 14:22Speaker 1: relationship has to be like fiery and passionate slow burn. Right.
- 14:25Speaker 1: What I really liked about this movie is that it
- 14:28Speaker 1: was about Anna's career one thousand percent. Yes, this love
- 14:32Speaker 1: story is secondary, total secondary, and I kind of just
- 14:36Speaker 1: like where she was, like I don't know where I fit,
- 14:39Speaker 1: Like I don't know what to do next, Like I
- 14:42Speaker 1: have aspirations, but like how do I do that? And
- 14:45Speaker 1: and that she had a little bit of like imposter syndrome, right,
- 14:50Speaker 1: And so I'm like really into these Hallmark movies that
- 14:53Speaker 1: that's the movie you we're getting, that's the story we're getting,
- 14:56Speaker 1: rather than this like those like love story. Yes, I
- 15:01Speaker 1: want a variety from Hallmark. Yes, her romance fit into
- 15:05Speaker 1: her life instead of her life fitting into her room, right?
- 15:08Speaker 1: Do you think something in the minority here? No, you
- 15:11Speaker 1: don't think so. I don't think so. To me, this
- 15:14Speaker 1: movie I think speaks to what a lot of Hallmark
- 15:19Speaker 1: viewers want, which is an easy to watch, happy ending,
- 15:23Speaker 1: low conflict movie. I think it does what people expect
- 15:28Speaker 1: from Hallmark in a fresh and watchable way. So I
- 15:32Speaker 1: took a photo of one scene. She wears a lot
- 15:35Speaker 1: of yellow in this movie, and I loved it. I
- 15:37Speaker 1: thought it was really stunning on her. And there's one
- 15:40Speaker 1: scene where she's wearing like jeans and this yellow sweater
- 15:43Speaker 1: and her trench coat. Yes, I know exactly what you're
- 15:45Speaker 1: talking about. It was like, that looks amazing. I have
- 15:48Speaker 1: a photo of It's not the full outbay, but I
- 15:50Speaker 1: just took a picture. I while I was watching that yesterday,
- 15:54Speaker 1: I was like, oh, do I want to include that
- 15:55Speaker 1: in my digit see that? Yes, yellow looks stunning on her.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And it was sweater that she wore that was kind
- 16:01Speaker 1: of like a golden rod. It was so pretty great,
- 16:06Speaker 1: good catch, Megan. Thanks So, Like I said earlier, Brooklyn
- 16:11Speaker 1: really grew on me. Yeah. I like that. She was
- 16:13Speaker 1: this moody assistant at first, and then she came through
- 16:15Speaker 1: with some really funny lines. And in one scene she
- 16:19Speaker 1: had this shout out whoever did the makeup? But she
- 16:21Speaker 1: had the most perfect blue winged eyeliner. Oh, it was
- 16:26Speaker 1: like so sharp. I was like, God, I wish, I
- 16:29Speaker 1: wish I had twenty year old eyelids. I just thought
- 16:34Speaker 1: that she was great. I want to see more from her.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I hope we see more from her. Totally, she needs
- 16:39Speaker 1: to be in our justice for Johanna. I agree. Some
- 16:43Speaker 1: light moments I liked, specifically from Russ In the beginning,
- 16:49Speaker 1: she comments like, I thought you were flirting with me.
- 16:51Speaker 1: He goes, I was flirting. I'm Australian. I don't get that.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's just I'm naturally flirty. Yes, oh okay, And then
- 16:58Speaker 1: when he calls her chef and the end, before they kiss,
- 17:01Speaker 1: he says, yes, chef loved it. Okay, No, that was
- 17:07Speaker 1: not bad. That was pretty fiery and passionate. I would say, yes, chef, yes, chef.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You know what scene I found really funny and absolutely
- 17:16Speaker 1: relatable when she's trying to flay that fish on the
- 17:20Speaker 1: boat and she's like one percent me. Here's what I
- 17:26Speaker 1: really appreciated. There though, is that they didn't she didn't
- 17:28Speaker 1: bar we didn't get the noises, but oh yeah, thankful
- 17:32Speaker 1: to we did he hear the noises? But I swear
- 17:34Speaker 1: in a preview we see her hanging her head overboard.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I thought so too, never made the final cut of
- 17:39Speaker 1: the movie. Agree, okay, good, I'm not crazy that that
- 17:42Speaker 1: does sound familiar to me. Okay, all right, one final thing.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I want to circle back to her outfits. Agree that
- 17:48Speaker 1: she has some really cut outfits. But did you see
- 17:50Speaker 1: her cute white tennis shoes that she wore to I
- 17:53Speaker 1: was like, girl just bought one pair of white tennis
- 17:55Speaker 1: shoes that just went effortlessly with everything. Yeah, I just
- 17:58Speaker 1: loved it. I've Darren Daius Dean gave total Gordon Ramsey vibes,
- 18:03Speaker 1: like he was totally the mean you love Gordon, love
- 18:05Speaker 1: Gordon Ramsey. I just thought he was kind of the
- 18:08Speaker 1: tough guy chef that is like a shtick for Ramsey.
- 18:11Speaker 1: He doesn't always act like that, Like you should watch
- 18:13Speaker 1: him on Next Level Kitchen. No. I understand people have
- 18:16Speaker 1: a lot of love and affection for him, but I
- 18:19Speaker 1: do think that's what he was emulating, or that's the
- 18:22Speaker 1: look that Hallmark was going for. I got it anyway. Okay,
- 18:26Speaker 1: what'd you wish for? Okay? I can't decide if I
- 18:30Speaker 1: like Luke Mitchell or not. Hear me out. Do I
- 18:34Speaker 1: like the beard? Do I not like the beard? I
- 18:36Speaker 1: don't know. All I kept looking at him is like,
- 18:39Speaker 1: is there food in his beard? Oh? Yes? Yes? And
- 18:42Speaker 1: then on top of that, I wish that they washed
- 18:44Speaker 1: his hair because in one scene towards the end, they
- 18:47Speaker 1: were drinking wine out by the pool and his hair
- 18:49Speaker 1: was down and loose and it looked real greasy, like
- 18:52Speaker 1: real dirty. Okay, I hear you, because Tim Riggans on
- 18:56Speaker 1: Friday Night Lights. Everyone loves Tim Riggans and all I
- 18:59Speaker 1: think every time I see him on screen is wash
- 19:02Speaker 1: your hair, man, Get that man a clarifying shampoo. I
- 19:05Speaker 1: couldn't handle it, so stingy, I hear you. I enjoyed
- 19:11Speaker 1: him a lot, would like to see more of him
- 19:14Speaker 1: in a Hallmark movie sort of way. All right, all right,
- 19:18Speaker 1: here's what I wished for. Okay. Make me believe that
- 19:21Speaker 1: a production company is going to send the entire crew
- 19:25Speaker 1: of this cooking show to Portugal to film on location.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Tell them to start filming while they are still negotiating
- 19:32Speaker 1: with the lead of this show. It doesn't make any
- 19:35Speaker 1: sense to me. You don't have a lead. The people
- 19:38Speaker 1: who are funding this certainly are going to be saying,
- 19:40Speaker 1: don't start making this show. And there in the background like,
- 19:44Speaker 1: we'll just splice him in. And here's what I'm picturing
- 19:47Speaker 1: is like this photoshoped chef Dean like over her shoulder, Like, no,
- 19:53Speaker 1: why are you going to splice it on the boat. Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 1: you're gonna cut to like an interior kitchen scene of him.
- 20:00Speaker 1: It didn't make sense. Well, even when she was doing
- 20:02Speaker 1: the interview with that other chef, I was like, are
- 20:07Speaker 1: they gonna like be splicing him in asking the questions
- 20:10Speaker 1: to this chef? Like, it didn't make any sense to
- 20:12Speaker 1: me none. The splicing him in part made no sense
- 20:15Speaker 1: at all. I mean I did understand the like, let's
- 20:18Speaker 1: get b roll, but then Anna, you're not in it, honey.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You know the b roll needs to That's not b roll, right,
- 20:25Speaker 1: the a roll. The b roll is the over the
- 20:29Speaker 1: flame cooking and all of that shopping in the market whatever. Sure,
- 20:34Speaker 1: get all of that, but not with you interviewing the
- 20:36Speaker 1: cute couple who harvest their own eggs, right, exactly. Okay, okay,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I totally agree with you. Now let's go back. I
- 20:47Speaker 1: want to hashtag justice for brooklyn storyline. Here at the beginning,
- 20:53Speaker 1: you hear there's it comes in on a conversation that
- 20:56Speaker 1: she's having with Russ, who is a professional cameraman, and
- 21:00Speaker 1: she is arguing that iPhones are just as good. She
- 21:03Speaker 1: doesn't say iPhone, but she says like a camera phone
- 21:05Speaker 1: or whatever. And then later on in the movie, we
- 21:09Speaker 1: after Anna and Brooklyn have like this like nice scene
- 21:14Speaker 1: in the kitchen. I think they were like cooking together
- 21:16Speaker 1: or something. And the next scene right after that, we
- 21:19Speaker 1: hear Anna telling Russ like, oh, Brooklyn's amazing. She won
- 21:24Speaker 1: this award for her short film and it was all
- 21:27Speaker 1: edited on her phone. I'm like, what is there something
- 21:30Speaker 1: they left out in the movie that they cut? Do
- 21:33Speaker 1: we have a more developed storyline for Brooklyn that didn't
- 21:35Speaker 1: make it to the movie. I think they're just giving
- 21:37Speaker 1: you her storyline in exposition. I don't like it, Okay,
- 21:41Speaker 1: I needed I don't I needed more. I don't like
- 21:44Speaker 1: the tell not show exposition. Lots of shows do this
- 21:47Speaker 1: when they don't really have the time to like, well,
- 21:49Speaker 1: that's when I see backstory. That's what I thought, because
- 21:52Speaker 1: like I did fall asleep, but I rewound it and
- 21:55Speaker 1: watched it. I thought maybe I was missing like something
- 21:58Speaker 1: when they were like out doing shot that Brooklyn was
- 22:00Speaker 1: taking video with her phone and then like made some
- 22:03Speaker 1: cute reel or something. No, that's what I needed to see. No,
- 22:08Speaker 1: they're just trying to build up her character via exposition. Okay,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I didn't like it. Okay, anything else you wish for nothing, Okay,
- 22:16Speaker 1: let's talk about did you see that? Okay? I have
- 22:19Speaker 1: a few, Okay, because you gave me such crap last
- 22:22Speaker 1: week about not noting the digit seesats as I was
- 22:26Speaker 1: watching the movies. Okay, so I did take notes this time.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And then rest they're drinking from pineapples, like after they
- 22:33Speaker 1: get to Portugal, which I didn't is that like a
- 22:36Speaker 1: tropical location. It's on the water. I wouldn't call it tropical,
- 22:39Speaker 1: but it is a port Okay. So they're drinking these
- 22:43Speaker 1: like pineapple out of the pineapples, and her straw like
- 22:47Speaker 1: it gets hit and knocked down and you hear her
- 22:50Speaker 1: go oops. But the scene continues like Rust then talks
- 22:54Speaker 1: does his line or whatever, and then it cuts to
- 22:57Speaker 1: rest and then it cuts back to her and she's
- 22:58Speaker 1: got her straw in the pineapple. So at one point
- 23:02Speaker 1: Anna checks her email and her inbox is empty. There's
- 23:06Speaker 1: one email, come on organic a thousand emails, and the
- 23:11Speaker 1: date on the email was like a few days after
- 23:14Speaker 1: Valentine's Day. So the question here is, obviously that's not
- 23:19Speaker 1: when this is happening, because I feel like they would
- 23:21Speaker 1: have addressed it in the movie. So it's like, did
- 23:23Speaker 1: they not know how to edit that to make it
- 23:25Speaker 1: look like a different date? So you think they actually
- 23:29Speaker 1: film this in February? I mean, I don't know if
- 23:31Speaker 1: they did or not. I think it's certainly possible, yes,
- 23:34Speaker 1: because if that was editing, they needed to pick another date. Yeah.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I think so too, because otherwise her mother would have
- 23:41Speaker 1: been like, Oh, are you thinking of anything for Valentine's Day?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Do you have any love connections on the brain? Mom?
- 23:49Speaker 1: You're funny. Did you notice that they threw away two
- 23:51Speaker 1: perfectly good ice cream cones? Did it? But I hate
- 23:53Speaker 1: it when they do that. They were like walking and
- 23:56Speaker 1: talking and eating a full ice cream cone with a spoon. Oh,
- 24:00Speaker 1: And I was like that's interesting, Like did they not
- 24:03Speaker 1: just want them? Like all the you know. Anyway. Oh,
- 24:07Speaker 1: then they see like these people like dancing and they're like, yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: let's go dance. And she takes his ice cream cone
- 24:12Speaker 1: out of his hand and then she dumps them both.
- 24:15Speaker 1: They are like fresh, and you so sad? Don't you
- 24:18Speaker 1: try an ice cream cone? I know. I know at
- 24:21Speaker 1: some point when Anna's like trying to liven up the
- 24:26Speaker 1: show when it's not working for her to be in
- 24:28Speaker 1: the kitchen and trying to just emulate Dean, She's like,
- 24:31Speaker 1: we need to get out of the kitchen. And I'm like, yeah, duh,
- 24:35Speaker 1: you need to get out of the kitchen. Why would
- 24:36Speaker 1: you fly all the way Portugal to just film on
- 24:38Speaker 1: another indoor kitchen set. There's absolutely no reason. Of course,
- 24:42Speaker 1: you do the food market scene and the maybe not
- 24:45Speaker 1: necessarily on the boat, but the buy the water scene.
- 24:48Speaker 1: You incorporate all the parts of the location. You're filming
- 24:51Speaker 1: on location. You know, this just reminded me. We have
- 24:54Speaker 1: a listener in our Facebook group who recently shared that
- 24:58Speaker 1: they watch a lot of Food Network Food TV, and
- 25:02Speaker 1: I would be curious what their thoughts would be on this,
- 25:07Speaker 1: because those are the shows I don't want to see,
- 25:09Speaker 1: like the cooking in the kitchen. I want to see
- 25:11Speaker 1: like the remember like Rachelre had like fifteen. I was like,
- 25:16Speaker 1: fifteen dollars a day. You have forty dollars a day.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I watched that show. Yeah, endlessly, me too. She was like,
- 25:22Speaker 1: out do the damn thing. Yes, that's what I want
- 25:24Speaker 1: to watch. I love such me too, So did I
- 25:28Speaker 1: I have one final thing? Okay, there was so much
- 25:31Speaker 1: cheese in this movie, and I thought, this is a
- 25:33Speaker 1: nightmare of a trip for you. Yes, you would never
- 25:36Speaker 1: go to like a cheesemonger and like sample the bummer, right,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'd go to the olive press. Me too, you know.
- 25:43Speaker 1: As a side note, people have said like, oh well,
- 25:45Speaker 1: if I go to like Italy, I can eat like
- 25:47Speaker 1: whatever I want, like all the cheese and all the
- 25:49Speaker 1: bread because it doesn't have all the preservatives that we
- 25:51Speaker 1: have here, and like it doesn't upset your stomach. I'm like,
- 25:53Speaker 1: I wonder if that would happen, But I would probably
- 25:55Speaker 1: just be like violently ill, would you I want to
- 25:59Speaker 1: risk and ruin my international vacation. I know, do you
- 26:04Speaker 1: have a dairy free option? Oh my gosh. They'd be like,
- 26:08Speaker 1: get out of here, get out what you give this movie?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Three stars. Oh, I give you three and a half.
- 26:13Speaker 1: How how is this happening? I keep giving movies better scores.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Last week, I liked this movie. I liked it. I
- 26:23Speaker 1: don't three stars. I liked it. I like like I
- 26:25Speaker 1: said before, it was a nice it might be a
- 26:27Speaker 1: three and a half star movie. It's in that range. Okay,
- 26:30Speaker 1: thanks for listening to this episode of Girls Gone Hallmark.
