Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Hello everybody. Welcome to another episode of off the air,
- 0:03Speaker 2: the weekly podcast from the Lynch and taco show here
- 0:06Speaker 2: at one Oh one, one WJRR in Orlando. I'm Pat Lynch.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm taco Bob.
- 0:12Speaker 2: All right. Um, thanks for phone.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Give any issues.
- 0:15Speaker 2: No, it's this thing has been like, uh, drooping on me.
- 0:18Speaker 2: You seek on. Yeah. Anyway. All right. Uh, if you're
- 0:22Speaker 2: joining us live, welcome. Glad you're here. If you're getting
- 0:24Speaker 2: this after the fact, thanks for finding and checking out
- 0:27Speaker 2: the podcast. We do, uh, A new episode pretty much
- 0:29Speaker 2: every Thursday unless we're on vacation or something. With that,
- 0:34Speaker 2: I wanted to maybe talk a little more about something
- 0:37Speaker 2: that we briefly brought up on the show earlier this week.
- 0:42Speaker 2: But it's kind of a touchy subject, and we had
- 0:45Speaker 2: some parameters due to the FCC restrictions of the on-air
- 0:49Speaker 2: show and talking about that subject matter.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Trying to think what it would be earlier in the week.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I'm looking at my trusty list over here that the
- 0:56Speaker 3: boss has me write out. Every day of, after the fact,
- 1:01Speaker 3: things that we talked about.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Go back to Monday and see if you can.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Spot the topic. Kolagard.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Kolagard, yes.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I had my first experience using the Kolagard test, which
- 1:19Speaker 2: if you're, oh, look, a political call is coming in.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I just deleted one political text right before we started.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So anyway, I had my annual physical last month, and
- 1:33Speaker 2: the doctor, my doctor says to me, he goes, well,
- 1:36Speaker 2: you're due for another colonoscopy, but he goes, all of
- 1:40Speaker 2: your blood work looks great. He goes, I don't suspect
- 1:43Speaker 2: there's any issues, and rather than get all invasive on you.
- 1:46Speaker 3: And waste basically two days.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We're going to give you the Cologuard test. We'll ship
- 1:54Speaker 2: it to your house. I'm like, oh, I've seen commercials
- 1:57Speaker 2: for that. He goes, yeah, just follow the instructions, set
- 2:00Speaker 2: it in, and if that comes back clean, good to go.
- 2:03Speaker 2: We won't even discuss this subject for another three years.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So the deal is I did the procedure, and I
- 2:10Speaker 2: got the results back actually this morning. I'm good to go.
- 2:14Speaker 2: No problems. What I wanted to elaborate on was this
- 2:18Speaker 2: whole process. It's so disgusting if you think about it.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And then where we really wanted to talk but couldn't
- 2:27Speaker 2: The folks on the receiving end who must get hundreds
- 2:30Speaker 2: of thousands of these things submitted over the months and
- 2:36Speaker 2: the year, and I couldn't imagine being the person who
- 2:40Speaker 2: receives this white box. I sent mine and went back
- 2:44Speaker 2: to Madison, Wisconsin. I don't know if that was where
- 2:46Speaker 2: Cola Guard headquarters is or what. But anyway... If you've
- 2:51Speaker 2: done this, you know exactly what I'm going to say.
- 2:53Speaker 2: It comes in a white box, okay? Inside is a
- 2:56Speaker 2: little white bucket-looking thing with a twist off top.
- 3:02Speaker 1: A little container.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Inside of that is a jar about yay big. With
- 3:09Speaker 2: a lid on it that's filled with some kind of
- 3:11Speaker 2: preservative liquid.
- 3:12Speaker 3: So that was about two to three inches tall.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Okay. Then there's also a probe-type thing that comes in
- 3:21Speaker 2: a tube that's part of this kit, and then a bracket.
- 3:26Speaker 2: That's all that's in the box and the instructions. So
- 3:30Speaker 2: you take this bracket thing, you lift your toilet seat up,
- 3:35Speaker 2: You lay the bracket across, and there's a hole in
- 3:37Speaker 2: the middle to put this bucket device in. That's the
- 3:40Speaker 2: catch bucket.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Okay? So you're going to collect your sample in that.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I went through the process, did that. You've got to
- 3:48Speaker 2: be careful not to get any urine or toilet paper
- 3:51Speaker 2: in the catch bucket.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So he peed first.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I did. I did. And then, you know, I— I
- 3:57Speaker 2: know this because I was there videoing it.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It was great.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm kidding.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We— So I dropped a representative sample, shall we say.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And I did what we all do after you do that.
- 4:08Speaker 2: You get up and you look. I'm like, oh, okay.
- 4:10Speaker 2: They ought to enjoy this one. Now, we're not quite
- 4:14Speaker 2: done yet on the patient side of things. Now, once
- 4:18Speaker 2: you have that, you take the bucket and you set
- 4:21Speaker 2: it down and you pour that jar of liquid over
- 4:25Speaker 2: the sample. Okay?
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I don't know what that's supposed to do, if it's
- 4:29Speaker 2: supposed to mask odor or what.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Or neutralize it, maybe.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And you're supposed to take the probe thing that came,
- 4:35Speaker 2: that comes in this test tube, and scrape the sample,
- 4:41Speaker 2: put it back into the test tube, put the lid
- 4:44Speaker 2: on this bucket thing, pull the lid across, tape it
- 4:49Speaker 2: back up, and there's a pre-shipped UPS next day air thing.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You drop it off at UPS, and they ship it off. Okay, great. Done.
- 4:59Speaker 2: No problem. We got to thinking about if it was
- 5:02Speaker 2: your job.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Now, keep in mind what we do want to stress.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I just need to rewind a little bit, is the
- 5:08Speaker 3: importance of getting a colonoscopy. And if your doctor lets
- 5:12Speaker 3: you do the Cologuard, that's awesome.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Because it's something we should all get checked. We have
- 5:16Speaker 3: a coworker who just went through colon cancer.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Not good.
- 5:21Speaker 2: And I'm dealing with a situation right now that's very
- 5:25Speaker 2: close to me and my family. Right. Obviously, I want
- 5:30Speaker 2: to make sure this is done and done right and
- 5:32Speaker 2: that I'm in good shape. So without fail, do whatever
- 5:36Speaker 2: the doctor says to do in that regard. Set all
- 5:39Speaker 2: that aside, your job is to receive these packages, in
- 5:44Speaker 2: my case, in Madison, Wisconsin, a white box. There's probably
- 5:47Speaker 2: pallets of these things that arrive every day, seven days
- 5:51Speaker 2: a week.
- 5:53Speaker 3: You have people everywhere that hate waking up for their job.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And they have a desk job where they've got to
- 6:01Speaker 3: call on clients to try to sell them.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And they're like, I can't stand this.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Anytime you're having a tough day getting out of bed
- 6:10Speaker 3: or a tough day at work, think of the person
- 6:14Speaker 3: that's receiving the shit samples.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And they open up the box, each and every one
- 6:18Speaker 2: of these boxes.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And unscrew the lids. And you're off.
- 6:23Speaker 2: To the races.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Into the great unknown we go.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And the fact that they did, how much schooling to
- 6:29Speaker 3: become probably have a science background?
- 6:33Speaker 2: I don't know what level. This is where we, there
- 6:39Speaker 2: is no way we're going to talk at this part
- 6:41Speaker 2: about this on the air because we'd say something wrong
- 6:44Speaker 2: that would get us fined. But I don't know if
- 6:48Speaker 2: that's a high education job or not. I would think
- 6:53Speaker 2: there's probably several different steps along the way. You probably
- 6:56Speaker 2: got the low person on the totem pole who does
- 6:58Speaker 2: the open the box, take the lid off, and see
- 7:01Speaker 2: if it's a usable sample.
- 7:04Speaker 3: They'd probably bring it to the person with the microscope.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Who probably then does the actual testing is what I'm saying.
- 7:12Speaker 2: You want to talk about Pandora's box. Think about, literally,
- 7:17Speaker 2: they probably get hundreds of thousands of these over the
- 7:20Speaker 2: course of the year. And it's a surprise every time
- 7:22Speaker 2: you open the lid because no two are alike.
- 7:25Speaker 1: No.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I remember when years and years ago when we came
- 7:32Speaker 3: across RateMyPoo.com.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:34Speaker 1: And seeing this is. When the internet was still kind
- 7:39Speaker 1: of new. Right.
- 7:40Speaker 2: This was one of the hot websites at the time.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And you were looking at huge dumps and stuff.
- 7:46Speaker 3: And not being childish, but yeah, I guess being childish,
- 7:50Speaker 3: it was entertaining as hell.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And if that was your job, you just desensitized.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And if you had to get up for that job
- 7:59Speaker 1: each day.
- 8:00Speaker 2: How much?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Or roofing.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Which would you rather? Okay, let's not do which would
- 8:05Speaker 2: you rather right now. Before we get to that, I
- 8:07Speaker 2: want to play that game. What would you require? as
- 8:11Speaker 2: pay for that to be your gig. Every five days
- 8:14Speaker 2: a week, at least eight hours a day, all you're
- 8:17Speaker 2: doing is receiving these white boxes and samples and opening
- 8:22Speaker 2: them up, unscrewing the lid, and okay, that's the gist
- 8:25Speaker 2: of your job.
- 8:26Speaker 3: And I'm handing it off to the whatever the next
- 8:29Speaker 3: person is.
- 8:29Speaker 2: We're assuming that's kind of how it goes.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I think it's the same guy wearing many hats.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Oh, you think they've downsized the in-between person? Well, you
- 8:39Speaker 2: can do both of these.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Or maybe they just do, okay, this is a really
- 8:44Speaker 1: tough one. You're going to do.
- 8:49Speaker 3: A five-hour shift on these amount of days, and then
- 8:52Speaker 3: the next person comes in for three.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So it's five hours.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I work, three hours you come in and work the
- 8:59Speaker 3: second part of the shift. Then, you know, it's like firefighters,
- 9:03Speaker 3: how they have– Three.
- 9:04Speaker 1: On, four off, or whatever the deal is.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Because they go, this is too traumatic for one person
- 9:10Speaker 3: to sit here eight hours a day, five days a week,
- 9:13Speaker 3: 40 hours.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Going through shit samples. There's no other way.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Okay, that said, if it is a 40-hour gig of
- 9:22Speaker 2: doing that, what are you going to require to be
- 9:24Speaker 2: paid to even think about wanting to do that as
- 9:26Speaker 2: your gig? 100K? I don't know. What about you? I
- 9:34Speaker 2: got to think at least $ 75, 000. Because you're looking.
- 9:39Speaker 1: At hepatitis and all the other.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Stuff that you could be coming across.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I'm going north of six figures. And then, okay. Lunch break.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Okay. I forgot all about that. It's like, do you
- 9:53Speaker 2: even have an appetite?
- 9:56Speaker 1: I think you're just desensitized. You're going home to your wife.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Chocolate ice cream is completely off the table. Chocolate pudding,
- 10:04Speaker 2: don't even think about it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Matt, you're going home to your wife. How is she
- 10:10Speaker 1: going to be turned on for playtime?
- 10:12Speaker 2: She's not. Okay, step further.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It's bad enough if you take that big dump in
- 10:18Speaker 1: the back bathroom that kind of wafts through the house. Right.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And she's disgusted with that.
- 10:23Speaker 2: She knows that you've been doing this all day. Step further.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It filters down into your whole life. You're out with
- 10:30Speaker 2: a group of friends. You're meeting some new people. Hey,
- 10:33Speaker 2: I'm so-and-so, I'm so-and-so. What do you do for a living?
- 10:36Speaker 1: I work at the stadium taking care of the turf.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I've got a job that is made up in the
- 10:44Speaker 3: back of my head at all times.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You're not going to come clean about what you do, huh?
- 10:47Speaker 1: If I do that, I'm saying I'm a lab tech.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Leave it like that.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Oh, really? I've always wondered about that. What do you
- 10:56Speaker 2: do as a lab tech, and what kind of tech
- 10:58Speaker 2: are you? We just search for the next things. After COVID,
- 11:02Speaker 2: that pandemic was so bad. We just search for the
- 11:05Speaker 2: possibilities of new ones coming in.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I am not going to tell them that.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Or I might just say, do you remember the website RateMyPoo.com?
- 11:15Speaker 1: I get that eight hours a day, five days a week. Hey, Sam,
- 11:21Speaker 1: come and look at this dump.
- 11:25Speaker 2: This is where I was thinking. Dude, if you just
- 11:29Speaker 2: didn't care and you were in that social setting and
- 11:32Speaker 2: you go, oh, I work at Cologuard. Wait, what is that? Yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 2: that's the do-it-yourself colon cancer screening outfit. Oh, yeah, I
- 11:42Speaker 2: see their commercials all the time. What exactly do you
- 11:44Speaker 2: do for them? I receive the shipment samples and do
- 11:49Speaker 2: the initial evaluation. You see where the conversation is. People
- 11:54Speaker 2: are going to be intrigued by this. Well, how does
- 11:55Speaker 2: that work? Well, they come in these little white boxes,
- 11:58Speaker 2: and you open them up, and there's these white bucket
- 12:01Speaker 2: containers with screw-off lids.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and inside of there is.
- 12:05Speaker 2: It's a surprise. Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I do that all day. People are taking a step back.
- 12:12Speaker 1: You know?
- 12:13Speaker 3: This guy's... Hey, at least your process for that was
- 12:17Speaker 3: better than the process I had to do when I
- 12:20Speaker 3: had a... What was that infection I got from fast
- 12:24Speaker 3: food place?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Food?
- 12:26Speaker 1: No, what are your innards?
- 12:29Speaker 2: Intestinal?
- 12:29Speaker 1: Intestinal. I had a.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Bacterial intestinal infection. And it was so bad that the
- 12:38Speaker 3: doctor could.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I go, watch. I said, push on my belly right here.
- 12:43Speaker 3: And he pushed and you could hear my stomach go....
- 12:47Speaker 2: And I go.
- 12:49Speaker 1: If you push again, I'm going to have to go
- 12:51Speaker 1: to the bathroom on your table. It was the worst
- 12:53Speaker 1: thing ever. So they sent me home, not with a
- 12:56Speaker 1: little bucket, with a bag.
- 12:59Speaker 2: What kind of bag?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Like a sample bag. You know how... Like a Ziploc.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Did they have any instructions with this as to how
- 13:08Speaker 2: exactly they would like you to collect it? Because that's
- 13:10Speaker 2: the one thing about the Cologuard thing. It's very clear
- 13:13Speaker 2: and easy how to do. It's just kind of off-putting. This,
- 13:16Speaker 2: here's a bag. Go in it.
- 13:18Speaker 3: It was a medical bag because, again, this was probably
- 13:22Speaker 3: too long.
- 13:23Speaker 2: So it's like a biohazard bag.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yes, that Ziploc bag with the writing on it or whatever.
- 13:28Speaker 2: The symbol on it.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I think it said my name already written on it,
- 13:32Speaker 3: so it was dummy proof.
- 13:33Speaker 1: And then go in the bag.
- 13:35Speaker 3: So I had to, Pat, I had four days to
- 13:38Speaker 3: where I was so dehydrated. I had water for like
- 13:43Speaker 3: water craps for enough that I had to go to
- 13:48Speaker 3: the frigging hospital to the doctor. So I had to
- 13:52Speaker 3: go home with the bag. I told the doctor, if
- 13:55Speaker 3: you just give me it, I can go in your
- 13:56Speaker 3: bathroom right.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Now and fill it. Oh, that's not how it works.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I had to go home. Got to go to the lab.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Toilet's already disruptive. You know what I'm getting at? Because
- 14:06Speaker 1: I've gone so much. I've been so sick. And all
- 14:09Speaker 1: because I don't want to say the name of the place,
- 14:12Speaker 1: but all because I had to stop again. So, Pat,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I had to put the bag up like this. Can
- 14:18Speaker 1: you see? I don't know if you can see. Yes,
- 14:20Speaker 1: we can see.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I had to hold the bag like this and go
- 14:25Speaker 3: in the bag and then stop.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Hold on, I spin my headphone cord right.
- 14:30Speaker 2: You had to do this standing up.
- 14:31Speaker 1: You know when you have to stop a pee? I
- 14:33Speaker 1: had to stop that. Yeah, it was a... But again,
- 14:39Speaker 1: technology's great, because at least you got that.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So what.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Once you ended up collecting your sample, what consistency was it?
- 14:48Speaker 2: It was straight brown water. That's what I was telling you. Pat,
- 14:53Speaker 2: and that's how I was able to go. You really
- 14:56Speaker 2: think if you.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Have a bacterial intestinal infection, I think is what it
- 15:01Speaker 3: was called.
- 15:03Speaker 2: You were left with a bag of duty water.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Pat, I had that.
- 15:10Speaker 3: That situation, that consistency for almost going on four days straight,
- 15:16Speaker 3: if not five, before they gave me the bag, sent
- 15:19Speaker 3: it off, and right away, oh, yeah. Put me on
- 15:22Speaker 3: meds and stuff to kill it. It was bad, all
- 15:25Speaker 3: because I frigging ordered something I shouldn't have. When I
- 15:28Speaker 3: pulled up to the drive-thru and the lady goes, oh, Lord.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 1: You think it's hot out there? Our AC's out. She goes, power.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Power wasn't out, but the AC was out.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder why the food was bad.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Which meant, oh, and then that means that the cooler's
- 15:46Speaker 3: probably on the fritz right now, too.
- 15:50Speaker 1: You got the burger sitting out.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Okay, there is a point to all of this, as
- 15:55Speaker 2: disgusting as it may be, if you're still with us. Look,
- 15:58Speaker 2: if you're. doctor says you're of the age to start
- 16:01Speaker 2: having those tests done, please do that.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Please. As much as we goof around and joke about this,
- 16:09Speaker 2: it is no joke in the end.
- 16:10Speaker 1: It's easy, too.
- 16:12Speaker 2: In the end. It is easy. And even if your
- 16:17Speaker 2: doctor says, I'd rather you just go with the full-on colonoscopy.
- 16:21Speaker 1: That's easy, too.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It is. It really is. And it's important to do that.
- 16:26Speaker 2: We both have done that, and I'm glad there's developments
- 16:31Speaker 2: like this Cologuard to kind of see how you're doing
- 16:34Speaker 2: along the way and in between.
- 16:35Speaker 3: And I think I asked you this, but the last time.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Okay, when I did my last one, I know they
- 16:45Speaker 3: told me you have 10 years until the next one.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Do they call you? I would think they keep you
- 16:49Speaker 1: on file.
- 16:50Speaker 2: No, it's in your records. That's how I knew I
- 16:52Speaker 2: was due.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It's in my records from who has those records.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Well, your medical records follow you. Okay. I wanted to
- 16:58Speaker 2: make sure. They follow you. So I knew before I
- 17:01Speaker 2: even went for my physical, we were having this discussion
- 17:03Speaker 2: that I was due for another colonoscopy, which I was prepared.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I already had the time I was going to map
- 17:08Speaker 2: it out to do next summer.
- 17:09Speaker 1: You were already drinking chicken broth. No, no, no, no, no.
- 17:13Speaker 2: And the doctor goes, well, look, man. He goes, I
- 17:16Speaker 2: got all your blood work back here. He goes, I just–
- 17:18Speaker 2: he goes– There's no red flags here. He goes, are
- 17:22Speaker 2: you familiar with the Cologuard? I said, yeah, I see
- 17:24Speaker 2: their commercials all the time. He goes, well, let's run
- 17:26Speaker 2: that screening. He goes, they've gotten to the point where
- 17:28Speaker 2: those are very, very accurate now. And if it comes
- 17:31Speaker 2: back okay, you're good to go on not needing a
- 17:34Speaker 2: colonoscopy right now. So I was like, all right, fair enough.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Again, that takeaway that Pat talked about from this is
- 17:42Speaker 3: if you're at the age where you think It's time
- 17:45Speaker 3: for a colonoscopy.
- 17:46Speaker 2: What is it?
- 17:46Speaker 1: They say 45.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I think they dropped it to 40, I believe.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're 40 and you haven't done a colonoscopy yet,
- 17:54Speaker 3: definitely talk to your doctor about one because.
- 17:57Speaker 2: It's very important. And if there's history in your family,
- 17:59Speaker 2: you definitely want it. Don't skip that test. No, no. So,
- 18:03Speaker 2: you know, anyway, as much as we clown around and
- 18:08Speaker 2: joke about this stuff, It's a very serious matter, and
- 18:12Speaker 2: you only got one life. That's it.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Hey, Halloween, real quick, let's transition from this weekend. Chocolate
- 18:19Speaker 3: bars right in there.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Chocolate bars, big size. Are we going peanut nougat here?
- 18:24Speaker 1: That's what you should have done. You should have snuck
- 18:27Speaker 1: a Snickers bar.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Somebody has had to have sent some of those back
- 18:33Speaker 2: with God knows what inside those sample buckets just to
- 18:37Speaker 2: goof on the technicians there. I'm sure they have stories.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I guarantee it. So, again, they tell at parties. Oh,
- 18:45Speaker 1: believe what I saw this week. This is amazing.
- 18:49Speaker 3: So with– Halloween being this weekend, it's phenomenal. It's on
- 18:52Speaker 3: a Saturday for all the kids. And this year, we're
- 18:56Speaker 3: putting the bowl out.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I told you that. Because you're not going.
- 18:58Speaker 2: To be home. No.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Going to a party.
- 19:00Speaker 2: You know the first group of kids that come are
- 19:01Speaker 2: just going to take the whole damn thing.
- 19:02Speaker 1: We've got pretty good, well-behaved kids. Because I did it
- 19:05Speaker 1: one year.
- 19:06Speaker 3: When it got later, I put it out and put
- 19:08Speaker 3: the sign and just watched to see.
- 19:11Speaker 1: And then yell. But they didn't take the whole thing.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I was amazed.
- 19:16Speaker 1: But.
- 19:17Speaker 3: With that said, it got me thinking back with my
- 19:20Speaker 3: trick-or-treating days, and I think I stopped probably around 12
- 19:24Speaker 3: or 13 maybe, and.
- 19:27Speaker 1: It was the best. Do you remember trick-or-treating around 10, 11?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah. You looked forward to it all week.
- 19:34Speaker 1: The whole week.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it was the best thing ever.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And you used a pillowcase. Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I'm not saying we were low budget, but it was
- 19:42Speaker 3: just you kind of figured something out that you were
- 19:44Speaker 3: going to dress up as.
- 19:45Speaker 2: And held a ton of candy.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 3: And one of the last times we did it, I
- 19:49Speaker 3: dressed up. It was Delta Dave, Charlie, and myself. We
- 19:53Speaker 3: got really high and went around dressed up as chicks.
- 19:57Speaker 2: At 12?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Went around dressed up as chicks. 12, maybe 13.
- 20:03Speaker 3: And I just remember because we were real high and
- 20:09Speaker 3: the one of the people said, oh.
- 20:11Speaker 1: You look like such little nice young ladies.
- 20:14Speaker 2: What's your name?
- 20:14Speaker 3: And it was Bobina, Davina, and Charlina for Charlie. But
- 20:20Speaker 3: when we were going along, it was just the most.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Surreal.
- 20:25Speaker 3: It was almost like we were tripping kind of thing
- 20:26Speaker 3: because it was just so weird going around high and
- 20:29Speaker 3: following these old ladies. You kind of had to be
- 20:32Speaker 3: there now that I think about it, and it was
- 20:33Speaker 3: being high. But even then, we scored so much candy,
- 20:37Speaker 3: and What it's like now, it's all these insane costumes, kids.
- 20:42Speaker 1: In the blow-up things with the AC. Dude, I could
- 20:45Speaker 1: tell you right now. I don't see any pillowcases.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I do.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You do?
- 20:50Speaker 2: I absolutely do.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Well, your neighborhood does a boatload of people as well.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Well, it's absolutely insane what it's come to.
- 20:58Speaker 1: With the trailers full of kids pulling up, yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 2: It's nuts. We're prepared. I mean, we've got my wife.
- 21:05Speaker 2: She's crazy. She has made up 200 bags. She makes
- 21:12Speaker 2: up the bags in advance with each bag has three
- 21:16Speaker 2: pieces in it, three fun-sized whatever, 200 bags of those. Oh,
- 21:22Speaker 2: be gone. And last year we had 150. They were gone.
- 21:27Speaker 2: And we had to do the old, sorry, we're out.
- 21:32Speaker 2: We can only do what we can do. So we
- 21:34Speaker 2: went to 200 this year. And I suspect she has
- 21:36Speaker 2: a little bit of backup still in the house. But
- 21:39Speaker 2: Friday last year, when it was on a Friday, it
- 21:41Speaker 2: was crazy. I would expect Saturdays probably couldn't even be
- 21:45Speaker 2: a tad crazier. The only thing that could maybe screw
- 21:48Speaker 2: it up is if the weather ends up not being great.
- 21:50Speaker 1: It's looking like it's going to be all right, though.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's going to be warm, though.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Not too. I'm seeing different forecasts.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Last year was great because it was cold. It was
- 21:58Speaker 2: the first cold day we had last season. I remember.
- 22:01Speaker 3: But Saturday in Maitland, keep that in mind, in Maitland.
- 22:05Speaker 3: It's saying that's right now the forecast on Thursday. For Saturday,
- 22:10Speaker 3: it's 45% chance of rain.
- 22:12Speaker 1: So, okay, whatever. We're in Florida. The high is 82
- 22:16Speaker 1: in Maitland.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Okay, well, it's not going to be much different elsewhere
- 22:19Speaker 2: here in central Florida.
- 22:21Speaker 1: So, I mean, that's pretty sweet. Dude, she puts it
- 22:26Speaker 1: all in bags?
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Ahead of time? They sell the bags for that purpose.
- 22:31Speaker 3: It's like basically, it's like the bags you'd get if
- 22:34Speaker 3: you were getting a roadie beer back in the 80s.
- 22:36Speaker 2: They're little Ziploc bags.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:39Speaker 2: And the reason she does it is because we aren't
- 22:42Speaker 2: going to go down the road anymore where we get
- 22:44Speaker 2: a bucket full and the kids come up and you
- 22:46Speaker 2: get the one kid who grabs a freaking handful.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah, why deal with the headache?
- 22:51Speaker 2: Relax. Here you go. How much do bags cost?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Figure a pack of 100 is probably— Four bucks. Oh, okay. Yeah,
- 22:59Speaker 1: that's easy.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Stopping them, though. Just bought them at the dollar store. Yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 3: mine's just straight up bull. Bull with the sign. Put
- 23:06Speaker 3: a little lantern next to it. I don't care if
- 23:08Speaker 3: you take the lantern.
- 23:09Speaker 2: So, you know, we're going to have high volume again.
- 23:12Speaker 2: The block I live on was actually in the news
- 23:15Speaker 2: last year, and I suspect it will be again. This
- 23:18Speaker 2: one home in particular just— production they put out, they've
- 23:22Speaker 2: been building it for the last three weeks.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Which is crazy.
- 23:27Speaker 2: They're just really into Halloween.
- 23:28Speaker 3: There's people that are really into it, and then there's
- 23:30Speaker 3: some people that are like, I.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Just don't really care. I'll turn the lights off.
- 23:35Speaker 2: There are a lot of houses that do that, and
- 23:37Speaker 2: that's fine, too.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It's kind of lame.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I was thinking back, all the decorating now, the exterior decorating,
- 23:45Speaker 2: there didn't used to be much of that years and
- 23:47Speaker 2: years ago. That's just become real big business, and So
- 23:50Speaker 2: far in advance with the decorations up.
- 23:52Speaker 3: It was pillowcases to get your candy and maybe a
- 23:56Speaker 3: plastic face mask of a cartoon character, a Bugs Bunny
- 24:01Speaker 3: face mask that you got for two bucks.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, just cheapo on the fly. Just an old sheet
- 24:07Speaker 2: over you. I'm a ghost, too! The other thing, too, is,
- 24:12Speaker 2: and this is probably the good side now that I'm
- 24:14Speaker 2: a homeowner, I don't see much of the egging or
- 24:17Speaker 2: shaving cream and all that crap. You don't see that anymore.
- 24:21Speaker 3: You know what you just said? You go, the other thing, too,
- 24:24Speaker 3: is that's what I'm going as this year.
- 24:26Speaker 2: A ghost.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Thing, too.
- 24:28Speaker 2: No, you're not.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I am.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Dude, that was on one of these lists that we
- 24:31Speaker 2: get for show prep that said most overdone. Yeah. Why, what?
- 24:35Speaker 1: Because it's the easiest thing.
- 24:37Speaker 3: With Amazon nowadays, I just did the generic version of
- 24:42Speaker 3: a Thing 2 costume.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I have an iron on. That's my costume.
- 24:47Speaker 3: I should go, and I might do it because I said, okay,
- 24:51Speaker 3: I'll do it, but I'll be Thing 2 as in dump.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I should go as a piece of crap like I
- 24:57Speaker 1: did that. For several years.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Dress as a Kohlgaard bucket. Everybody will know what it is.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Oh, that would be pretty good, too.
- 25:03Speaker 2: You have a screw top as a hat.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Too much work. Let me look. I bet Amazon has it.
- 25:12Speaker 3: The C-O-L-O-G-U-A-R-D costume, right?
- 25:19Speaker 1: I bet.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I have no idea. It would be pretty funny. I'm
- 25:24Speaker 2: expecting to see lots of crazy Nickys from Obsession, I think,
- 25:30Speaker 2: will be a big one this year.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Look.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's funny, dressed as the big white box with
- 25:38Speaker 2: the eyeballs on it.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Have to have that big white box. My daughter's in town,
- 25:42Speaker 3: and she's got the art flair with her. Color it
- 25:47Speaker 3: Halloween costume, Amazon.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Dude, just go to the grocery store and ask them
- 25:52Speaker 2: if you could have like a paper towel box or something.
- 25:56Speaker 2: You could just spray paint it white and do it up.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Punch some holes in the side.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you know I'm not going to do that.
- 26:03Speaker 3: It would be easier to grab a trash bag and
- 26:06Speaker 3: put corn and toilet paper on it.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Which you've done. Yeah, that would be way easier.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Amazon, okay. I know this is taking time.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Well, we're getting near the end of our allotted time
- 26:16Speaker 2: here anyway.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Uh-huh. Give me color guard.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Well, that's nothing wrong with that.
- 26:24Speaker 3: How to do a DIY box. Yeah, that's the problem.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Why I'm going to... That's why I'm going to Amazon, dude.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I don't need a DIY on this. Anyway, that one flopped.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I guess I'm thing two again.
- 26:36Speaker 2: All right, thing two. Enjoy your Halloween party.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Oh, well.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Before that, though, by the way, if you're watching this
- 26:45Speaker 2: or listening to this before... Halloween, we are going to
- 26:48Speaker 2: be out Saturday afternoon, Florida-Georgia game. Big game. With Shock
- 26:53Speaker 2: Top 3-5. We'll be at Wing Shack at Michigan in Orlando.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Wing Shack this Saturday, 3-5. All right.
- 27:01Speaker 2: So if you want to come by, watch some of
- 27:03Speaker 2: the Florida-Georgia game. Get some prizes we'll give out, and
- 27:06Speaker 2: we'll get you out of there in plenty of time
- 27:07Speaker 2: to be off to your Halloween gatherings. There we are.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And don't forget about the time change this weekend. We
- 27:14Speaker 2: fall back to standard time early Sunday morning.
- 27:17Speaker 1: All right, so we covered it all.
- 27:18Speaker 2: We did. I think so. I think we got it
- 27:19Speaker 2: all covered here. Thanks for checking out Lynch & Taco's
- 27:22Speaker 2: Off the Air podcast. As I said at the beginning,
- 27:24Speaker 2: usually have a new one of these every Thursday. Spread
- 27:27Speaker 2: the word. We could use the help.
- 27:30Speaker 3: You know what I'm still doing over here. I'm still
- 27:31Speaker 3: searching Amazon to get Cola Guard, not Color Guard.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Ass man. Gotcha. Gotcha, Taco.
