Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, so Rose. The other day, I was like standing
- 0:04Speaker 1: in the kitchen and you know, I was carving up
- 0:07Speaker 1: a chicken for dinner, mine in my own business, and
- 0:09Speaker 1: in storms my husband Wilbur in a jealous rage. You've
- 0:12Speaker 1: been screwing the milkman, he says. He was crazy. He
- 0:16Speaker 1: kept screaming, you've been screwing the milkman, girl.
- 0:20Speaker 2: And then it ran into my knife her ran ten times.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Did you know that you used to be able to
- 0:27Speaker 2: order sour cream from milkman? Not just milk, not just.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Milk, but sour cream. Kind of disgusting if you think
- 0:35Speaker 1: about it. Also the fact that we used to have milkmen.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We used to have I think professional kind.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Of well, I mean milk people.
- 0:43Speaker 1: No milk equality, not milk them O.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I think milkmen are kind of charmingly retro. I think
- 0:54Speaker 2: we should I would think we should bring that back.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I'm sure there's some like raw milk service that exists
- 1:00Speaker 2: in like a Gramercy Park and Williamsburg.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, bring back milk professionals, milk technicians.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Milk technicians. I want it straight from the cow. Yeah
- 1:12Speaker 2: that honestly, I wanted the milkmant. Milk people's hands to
- 1:15Speaker 2: still smell from the udders.
- 1:17Speaker 1: If I had a milk person, if I had a
- 1:18Speaker 1: milk professional, I want to fuck them too. Like, let
- 1:22Speaker 1: me tell you, I.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Never said I wanted to fuck them, but I do.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But I do. We did sing the cell Boc Tango
- 1:30Speaker 1: at your birthday party last night.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And it was one of the few group numbers we did.
- 1:35Speaker 1: We didn't nail it, but there was a bit of
- 1:38Speaker 1: a scramble and I was like, I was made pop
- 1:42Speaker 1: and that was like, I really didn't want to be Pop,
- 1:45Speaker 1: But who did you want to be? I kind of
- 1:47Speaker 1: wanted to be you. You've been screwing the milkman, Squish.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I wanted to be Squish.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I also we should we should have we should have
- 1:58Speaker 2: cast the roles earlier. I mean, I knew I was
- 2:02Speaker 2: going to be Velma aka Cicero. That was never in question.
- 2:06Speaker 2: That was but it was. And I think it also
- 2:11Speaker 2: is hard to do a group number with only two microphones.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That's true, and thank you for saying that. Thank you
- 2:16Speaker 2: for the grace that you're giving our performance. But otherwise
- 2:20Speaker 2: I thought it was a sleigh as it was all
- 2:23Speaker 2: of the numbers. I thought our rendition of get together
- 2:28Speaker 2: started in a in a rough place and then we
- 2:33Speaker 2: really found our way to it.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It was sur it were uncomfortable, you were like we.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Were like it was you were like the real and
- 2:40Speaker 2: so so real.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Girl. Another thing that Virgins missed. We went to Club Confessions,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Oh my Gods, guest of Absolute Vodka as a guest
- 2:53Speaker 1: of Madonna herself. Madnna invited us personally. We got we
- 2:58Speaker 1: had we both had random texts that said see you
- 3:01Speaker 1: at Club Confessions. Seem girl. Okay. I also must give
- 3:09Speaker 1: myself credit. You wanted to leave right before you had
- 3:14Speaker 1: one of the best moments of your life.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah. I knew as soon as I saw you like
- 3:17Speaker 2: that tweet that you were on that you were gonna
- 3:20Speaker 2: have something else.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I was gonna rub it in your face because girl
- 3:23Speaker 1: wanted to leave, and I said, I said, baby, you'll
- 3:25Speaker 1: never hear these remixes again. Stay another fifteen minutes and
- 3:29Speaker 1: you see it. Another fifteen minutes and what happened. You
- 3:31Speaker 1: astral projected into the sun. Your soul left your body.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I've never seen ecstasy on your face on a one
- 3:39Speaker 1: rose dom you that I had.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It was the absolute insanity of being in a venue
- 3:45Speaker 2: full of gay people and Madonna is on stage and
- 3:50Speaker 2: hung Up starts playing, and we're all kind of looking
- 3:53Speaker 2: around at each other like is this really happening right now?
- 3:58Speaker 2: It's can you believe we are in this moment? It
- 4:02Speaker 2: was I was actually just talking about this in therapy,
- 4:05Speaker 2: like I hate to say it, but it was radical
- 4:08Speaker 2: queer joy, I really do. I love the way that
- 4:14Speaker 2: you laughed. You were like, that was my room. Yeah
- 4:22Speaker 2: that was good.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So yeah, hung Up into get Together?
- 4:29Speaker 2: No, no, it was not hung Up in to get together.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Get Together was the first song she did. Get Together
- 4:35Speaker 2: was the first Confessions one song she did after her
- 4:40Speaker 2: like Confessions two set.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Oh she did get together?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Sorry hung Up?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Sorry, I don't know she did. Well, maybe she did.
- 4:50Speaker 1: If she definitely.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Did get together and hung Up I know that, And yeah, girl,
- 4:56Speaker 2: that was I mean club Confessions generally was so much fun.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Everyone was there. I saw people from literally every era
- 5:07Speaker 2: of my New York life. They were all there. Some
- 5:11Speaker 2: people who I was like, Okay, I kind of expected
- 5:14Speaker 2: you to be here. You I'm sure you were invited
- 5:16Speaker 2: and these are the usual scene gays. Other people who
- 5:18Speaker 2: I was like, okay, you set one of those dancing
- 5:21Speaker 2: videos into mister and got put on the list a surprise,
- 5:27Speaker 2: and you know what, I'm happy for you.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm happy for you. And yeah, like I think I
- 5:32Speaker 1: to be honest, because I was at the reopening of
- 5:35Speaker 1: the Boom Boom Room post COVID where Madonna performed in
- 5:39Speaker 1: twenty twenty one. Question Mark, you can't remember when it was.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I was very worried because that was that twenty twenty
- 5:46Speaker 1: one moment was when I learned that Madonna stands are
- 5:49Speaker 1: the worst kind of fan base on the planet sometimes
- 5:51Speaker 1: because they are white gay men who think they're entitled
- 5:54Speaker 1: to some kind of marginalization and therefore kind of like
- 5:58Speaker 1: orient themselves with a kind of privilege. But there was
- 6:01Speaker 1: so much physical room at the Knockdown Center.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I was.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So pleased that they did not book it like heavily
- 6:09Speaker 1: over capacity. It felt like so right.
- 6:12Speaker 2: It was very comfortable. It Also, I think it was
- 6:16Speaker 2: just you could, I think feel in the air that
- 6:23Speaker 2: this was one of those legendary New York nights and
- 6:27Speaker 2: the vibe was so uniformly positive and celebratory. Yes, there
- 6:33Speaker 2: was no irony or like, ugh, I can't believe we're
- 6:39Speaker 2: all here seeing Madonna.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Lol.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It was like I can't believe we're all here seeing
- 6:44Speaker 2: Madonna on.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Ironically, we are retreating into a former self and understanding
- 6:50Speaker 1: that we are genuinely excited to be here and there's
- 6:53Speaker 1: nothing wrong with.
- 6:53Speaker 2: That, and that the dance floor is a ritual space.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Well, everything begins with consciousness. And people think that, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: dance music, it's superficial, but it's not.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It's not, it's not.
- 7:06Speaker 1: And Rose when Madonna said tick TikTok, it's a quarter
- 7:14Speaker 1: to two, and it was literally one forty five am. Yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 1: it was literally one forty five am. When she said
- 7:24Speaker 1: tik TikTok, it's a quarter to two, I almost pissed myself.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And when we say said, we do mean said, because
- 7:30Speaker 2: Madonna was not performing so much as shows kind of
- 7:33Speaker 2: speak words, spoken word, speaking the lyrics on the microphone
- 7:37Speaker 2: over the tracks that Stuart Price was playing, which I
- 7:40Speaker 2: love got seeing Madonna and Stuart Price together, beautiful mother
- 7:45Speaker 2: and father.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Literally Mary Magdalen and Jesus Christ literally literally vibes.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It was also we looked amazing. We looked so good
- 7:56Speaker 2: must be said.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Must be said, and everyone's saying three, but we looked amazed.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Fucking iconic. I my hair my bob was bobbing.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Your bob was bobbing. Your cut was fresh.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I have yeah, since we last recorded, I have cut
- 8:14Speaker 2: off approximately for another four inches of hair.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I am about to do the same. I slicked my
- 8:21Speaker 1: body in oil put on.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You were strapping oily and I was doing in a
- 8:27Speaker 2: in a in a lovely way.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Every time I touched you, I was like gooey. I
- 8:34Speaker 1: am something that this like kind of you know, I
- 8:37Speaker 1: feel like it's a bit of a Madonna's Madonna's Stan
- 8:40Speaker 1: Phase era, deep dive kind of bands, Blane compelled like
- 8:47Speaker 1: upset Madonna re obsession. This has all led to me
- 8:51Speaker 1: revisiting Madonna remixes, which like are truly like it's a
- 8:55Speaker 1: remix catalog that I'm sorry it's unsung or like should
- 9:01Speaker 1: be more sung. Maybe it's not unsung. I think it's
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's pretty song. No, no, no, no. The thing is is
- 9:07Speaker 1: that it actually deserves more credit then what it's kidding
- 9:11Speaker 1: is That's what I'm saying is that it actually needs
- 9:13Speaker 1: to be appreciated more.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Oh, in speaking of Madonna, if you are not already
- 9:18Speaker 2: a patron, you should go to our patreon like a
- 9:21Speaker 2: patreon dot com slash Like a Virgin to listen to
- 9:25Speaker 2: our deep dive on Confessions to the original Confessions on
- 9:29Speaker 2: a Dance Floor album sort of Madonna's career in general.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It's a very exhaustive, intelligent, and funny deep dive, so
- 9:40Speaker 2: definitely go listen. We have two bonus episodes a month.
- 9:43Speaker 2: There'll be another one coming later this month, so check
- 9:46Speaker 2: it out.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yes, highly researched Deep Dive episodes in an hour and
- 9:50Speaker 1: forty minutes of talking about Madonna herstory.
- 9:52Speaker 2: So fran has listened to now how many times?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Only three? Oh right, only three?
- 9:58Speaker 2: Because as much as all of you love our podcast,
- 10:02Speaker 2: no one is a bigger fan of Like a Virgin
- 10:04Speaker 2: than one, Miss Frantrado.
- 10:06Speaker 1: That's correct. But the thing, one thing that we didn't
- 10:10Speaker 1: discuss on that episode is the Madonna remixes. And I
- 10:13Speaker 1: just want to sell promote uh my Madonna remix playlist.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Go on to here Madonna Remixes. You can search it
- 10:20Speaker 1: on Spotify. Have you listened to some of these or
- 10:24Speaker 1: or appreciate Do you have a favorite Madonna remix by
- 10:27Speaker 1: any chance? Obviously, Like some of her remixes are so
- 10:30Speaker 1: ubiquitous that they become the track itself, Like The William
- 10:33Speaker 1: Orbit remix of of Light is like just the song,
- 10:36Speaker 1: now you know I do.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I do love that one. I've played that in sets before.
- 10:43Speaker 2: There's a really good remix of what it feels like
- 10:45Speaker 2: for a girl that I used to play, and sets
- 10:48Speaker 2: a lot the.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Above and beyond remix. Yes, yes, I have.
- 10:53Speaker 2: So many good ones because Madonna, you know, for for
- 10:56Speaker 2: decades has been she's been fucking DJs. She's and fucking DJs,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and she also and then working with them. Well, Like
- 11:02Speaker 2: one of the things I things I loved was that
- 11:04Speaker 2: the weekend that Confessions Too came out, she released all
- 11:08Speaker 2: of the all of the stems for free. I didn't
- 11:12Speaker 2: know so that people could remix them.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Are you serious? I didn't know that where that was
- 11:16Speaker 1: on her site or something I don't remember. Oh my god,
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's so fucking sick. Yeah, Like she really is like
- 11:25Speaker 1: making music for the girlies that want to mix. And
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think that's so sickening. That's just like something that
- 11:33Speaker 1: more artists should do. Because I love without words, love
- 11:38Speaker 1: without words. I will quickly plug the up down suite.
- 11:42Speaker 1: There's also a remix I think from Erotica called Waiting.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's like waiting it's called Waiting Remix. It's so good.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I also am basic and I really love the kind
- 11:56Speaker 1: of jungle mix of the Bedtime Story. But yeah, anyways,
- 12:02Speaker 1: Madonna remixes, I'm like clinically addicted and now I can't
- 12:05Speaker 1: skip them. Shall we get into like things we watched
- 12:11Speaker 1: consumed this week that were not Madonna?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yes, I know that you did finally start watching X
- 12:19Speaker 2: Men ninety seven. Yes, uh, you're not totally caught up
- 12:22Speaker 2: on it, but.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Well, I would say I've been having it on well
- 12:26Speaker 1: justin and I watched the first episode Superstone, and I
- 12:29Speaker 1: was like kind of having a cup season right the
- 12:31Speaker 1: very first episode of the very first season of this
- 12:34Speaker 1: re release or this reboot essentially, and I had the
- 12:41Speaker 1: only thing that I can act the conversation really is that,
- 12:43Speaker 1: like it the for the animation quality and honestly voiceover
- 12:51Speaker 1: style of the show to be so so so hyper
- 12:55Speaker 1: referential of nineteen eighty seven, for it to sound and
- 12:59Speaker 1: look like nineteen eighty seven is so satisfying and like prestige, artful,
- 13:07Speaker 1: like and that like the original theme song to me,
- 13:11Speaker 1: like it.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Just oh, this is so fucking sick, babe. I want
- 13:18Speaker 2: to hear that on a DJ set. Maybe I'll try
- 13:21Speaker 2: to find a remix of that for Doll Invasion.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yes, please, I would love that. I'd be cunt, that'd
- 13:27Speaker 1: be cunty boots. But yeah, I have only the rest
- 13:31Speaker 1: of the show. I've been watching on background sometimes while
- 13:34Speaker 1: doing work. But I know that there is like some
- 13:38Speaker 1: kind of news that's coming out of the second season
- 13:40Speaker 1: that's on air right now.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Well, no, it's it's actually it's not about the second season,
- 13:44Speaker 2: which is currently airing and which has been really good
- 13:47Speaker 2: so far. I haven't watched the new episode that just
- 13:49Speaker 2: dropped today, but uh, there was a leaked post or
- 13:55Speaker 2: image for Avengers Doomsday, which is coming out later this
- 13:58Speaker 2: year and feature there's a bunch of the original Fox
- 14:02Speaker 2: movie X Men, and there's been a lot of discussion
- 14:06Speaker 2: around the lineup of those X Men online, and it is, sorry,
- 14:14Speaker 2: not a good lineup, primarily because there's only one woman
- 14:19Speaker 2: in it. It's a total sausage fest. And if if you,
- 14:25Speaker 2: if Marvel specifically could learn anything from X Men ninety
- 14:28Speaker 2: seven that somehow they don't already know, it's that any
- 14:33Speaker 2: X Men, any mutant team rests on the women in it.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Wait, I'm trying to see.
- 14:44Speaker 2: So the leaked image I can I can tell you
- 14:46Speaker 2: from memory. Yeah, it's it's Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops Nightcrawler,
- 14:53Speaker 2: Channing Tatum as Gambit from Wolverine and Deadpoll. And then
- 14:58Speaker 2: the sole female mutant is Rebecca Romain as Mystique with
- 15:03Speaker 2: a fuck ass bob Wow. And she's finally wearing like
- 15:08Speaker 2: a sort of comics accurate Mystique look. But it's not good.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I mean, like, at least she's wearing clothes, even though,
- 15:17Speaker 2: like I think naked Mystique from the movies is hot
- 15:21Speaker 2: as fuck, but like, yeah, that is weird that she
- 15:24Speaker 2: was forced to be naked when Mystique has like never
- 15:27Speaker 2: looked like that in the comics.
- 15:31Speaker 1: But it is crazy to.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Have an X Men team with one woman because the
- 15:37Speaker 2: thing that everyone knows about X Men is that the
- 15:40Speaker 2: women are what make an X Men team. Like, how
- 15:43Speaker 2: are you gonna have an X Men team with no
- 15:46Speaker 2: Jean Gray, no Storm, no Rogue. It just and I
- 15:51Speaker 2: know they are rebooting X Men. There was actually a
- 15:55Speaker 2: rumor started making rounds this week that Adam Driver is
- 15:58Speaker 2: going to play Magneto, which I don't really know how
- 16:03Speaker 2: I feel about someone someone said, oh no, they're gonna
- 16:06Speaker 2: make him an October seventh survivor.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Well, but also like, why would you after he's done
- 16:13Speaker 1: Star Wars. That just feels like, I mean, Marvel is I.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Think that Marvel's very first thought.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, the thing about a lot of Marvel casting,
- 16:23Speaker 1: especially when they cast someone like an Adam Driver who's
- 16:27Speaker 1: like a kind of weird face character actor, kind of
- 16:31Speaker 1: but still Academy adjacent actor that you wouldn't think of
- 16:37Speaker 1: for a superhero franchise like that, Marvel's really good at
- 16:42Speaker 1: casting types like that, like putting Michael.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Fassbender as Magneto as young Magneto, like starting an X
- 16:49Speaker 2: Men first class that's really good casting, or.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Honestly, like all the way back to fucking Tony Stark,
- 16:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like what's I can't my
- 16:59Speaker 1: member's fucking name, or.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Or like it's casting Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart as
- 17:03Speaker 2: Anato and Professor X. You know, like there is there's
- 17:05Speaker 2: a legacy of this kind of casting, but casting.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Julia Louis Drivis like they're good at casting it. So
- 17:10Speaker 1: Adam Driver, to me, that's just like that's not inventive
- 17:14Speaker 1: and it just doesn't sound right to me, so I
- 17:16Speaker 1: hope that's not true.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I know there was someone. There was another rumor I
- 17:21Speaker 2: saw of someone who had been offered the role that
- 17:23Speaker 2: I think made a lot more sense, but I can't
- 17:25Speaker 2: remember who it was. I just I also think like
- 17:29Speaker 2: that's that does. That does give me a little bit
- 17:32Speaker 2: of hope that they will be cast. They will be
- 17:36Speaker 2: making the X Men young, because you know, Adam Driver
- 17:41Speaker 2: is pretty young to play Magneto considering you know, Ian
- 17:46Speaker 2: McKellen played him in the in the Fox movie franchise.
- 17:51Speaker 2: But I don't know. I feel I feel like we're
- 17:55Speaker 2: going to start hearing about some of this stuff, starting
- 17:59Speaker 2: with spy Man Brand New Day because the rumor, as
- 18:02Speaker 2: I said in a recent episode, the rumor is that
- 18:05Speaker 2: Sadie Sink is playing potentially Jean Gray or maybe rachel
- 18:11Speaker 2: or Hope Summers her daughters. It's a little obvious because
- 18:15Speaker 2: Jean Gray and Sadie Saint's character in Uh Stranger Things
- 18:22Speaker 2: are extremely simple like Stranger Things. Her Stranger Things character
- 18:26Speaker 2: is Jean Gray adjacent slash maybe inspired by Jean Gray. Well, no,
- 18:30Speaker 2: I think you're thinking about eleven different.
- 18:32Speaker 1: No, No, I'm thinking I mean Sadie Saint's character has
- 18:36Speaker 1: like there's a kinetic, there's a telekinetic.
- 18:40Speaker 2: She doesn't have any powers. No, when she's like in
- 18:43Speaker 2: the when she's like in the there's isn't there a
- 18:47Speaker 2: moment in the later season where she like is connected
- 18:49Speaker 2: to the fucking whatever?
- 18:51Speaker 1: I don't really care, but well, I.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Mean it's more so that she's like, she's a hot, young,
- 18:57Speaker 2: famous redhead, so like of course she would play Geen
- 19:01Speaker 2: Gray or someone related to Gay.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I must remind it, remind you that you met James
- 19:06Speaker 1: and Julia were fan casting The X Men Reboo and
- 19:10Speaker 1: I very bravely put forth Julia Fox as Magneto. And
- 19:15Speaker 1: I really think that's really good.
- 19:17Speaker 2: That's what Wait, you know what's crazy is that I
- 19:20Speaker 2: so this this weekend, I had uh, I had lunch
- 19:25Speaker 2: with our friend Jordan and Uh, Jordan and I's mutual
- 19:30Speaker 2: friend who I went to college with, and he reminded
- 19:34Speaker 2: me that we used to hang out with Julia Fox.
- 19:37Speaker 2: She she lived across the street from us when we
- 19:39Speaker 2: lived on the Lower East Side when we were twenty one,
- 19:42Speaker 2: and she like used to and she like used she
- 19:44Speaker 2: was she like you no, No, this was like pre spectrum.
- 19:47Speaker 2: She used to like come to house parties at my apartment.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Love love, crazy pre spectrum lore. Speaking of adaptations, though,
- 19:58Speaker 2: I know that you have some thoughts on another recent
- 20:01Speaker 2: animated to live action adaptation.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Okay, I'll get it out of the way because it's like,
- 20:07Speaker 1: honestly so basically to talk about, but I just have
- 20:09Speaker 1: to get it off my chest because look, Avatar the
- 20:13Speaker 1: Last Airbender, the original animated series widely considered one of
- 20:17Speaker 1: the greatest honestly series of the twenty first century, one
- 20:21Speaker 1: of the greatest animated series of all time, and very
- 20:27Speaker 1: very known that the live action is, as we say,
- 20:34Speaker 1: huge medaga flop doo doo kaka shit from a butt.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Everyone hated it. The first season came out like, I
- 20:40Speaker 1: don't know, a year or two ago, and we all
- 20:44Speaker 1: knew that it was going to be bad. I like appreciated,
- 20:50Speaker 1: actually some of it, because I was like at the time,
- 20:56Speaker 1: still new to Avatar in general, and so I was
- 20:59Speaker 1: like in love with the world and liking some parts
- 21:02Speaker 1: of what it was doing. But in general, I as
- 21:06Speaker 1: I was watching the new season of the live action
- 21:10Speaker 1: adaptation that it just came out, there's so many different
- 21:14Speaker 1: problems with it. I think the big thing is like
- 21:18Speaker 1: the episodic nature of the original show being kind of
- 21:22Speaker 1: truncated and then only focusing on like the melodrama and
- 21:26Speaker 1: like taking out a lot of action sequences and a
- 21:29Speaker 1: lot of side plots that are really fun and engaging
- 21:31Speaker 1: in are the part of the show that we love
- 21:34Speaker 1: is just like so soulless, and it just like is
- 21:37Speaker 1: not right. But the other big thing is that, like
- 21:42Speaker 1: the original Avatar is a hard comedy, like a hard
- 21:48Speaker 1: hard comedy for children for children, and this live action
- 21:55Speaker 1: try like tries a joke here and there, but doesn't
- 21:59Speaker 1: even commit to it in the slightest. These actors are
- 22:02Speaker 1: every single one of them is so unfunny, so so
- 22:08Speaker 1: like cringe unfunny, and none of them are good actors, sorry,
- 22:13Speaker 1: all of them.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I do think that Zuko really good, and I also
- 22:19Speaker 2: think gat. I also think the actress who plays Azula
- 22:22Speaker 2: is good. I don't love the necessarily the way she's written,
- 22:28Speaker 2: but I think she's a good actress. I don't like
- 22:30Speaker 2: how she's written either, I like, yeah, it's just as
- 22:35Speaker 2: Zula is so like she's one of the larger and
- 22:38Speaker 2: over the top in the comics that it's like it's
- 22:42Speaker 2: just being played and written in a very understated way.
- 22:46Speaker 2: And I get that they're trying to put their own
- 22:48Speaker 2: stamp on it, But why would you put your own
- 22:51Speaker 2: stamp on something that's one of the greatest things of
- 22:52Speaker 2: all time? I mean you could, you could take that
- 22:55Speaker 2: all the way back to just like the impulse to
- 22:57Speaker 2: make a live action version of the show exactly.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Which is soulless. It's a soulless like position to be.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It's a soulless kind of like endeavor.
- 23:07Speaker 2: That's just what I mean. That's what I keep hearing
- 23:09Speaker 2: about the new Moana adaptation too. Like we've been having
- 23:12Speaker 2: this conversation about live action Disney adaptations for ten fifteen years.
- 23:16Speaker 2: It's just like it it is. It comes from this
- 23:20Speaker 2: cultural mindset of that like animation is not valid and
- 23:24Speaker 2: the only thing that has any real like artistic merit
- 23:29Speaker 2: is a live action film or TV show. I know again,
- 23:34Speaker 2: I as you're saying, like it is like almost it's
- 23:37Speaker 2: like basic of me to even like bring it up,
- 23:40Speaker 2: because I think it's like, of course it's going to
- 23:42Speaker 2: be bad. But I just I love the original series
- 23:45Speaker 2: so much, and so I I don't know it's just
- 23:49Speaker 2: like nasty to me. And the other thing that I
- 23:52Speaker 2: was thinking about on this like comedy thing is like
- 23:55Speaker 2: they very clearly for the majority of the characters can
- 24:00Speaker 2: as actors that look exactly like the animated character, like
- 24:04Speaker 2: they're trying to pick someone with the same face shape,
- 24:08Speaker 2: And I really wish they had just picked people that
- 24:10Speaker 2: were funny and good actors, because none of these kids
- 24:13Speaker 2: are good actors. They just look exactly like the characters,
- 24:16Speaker 2: which is cool, and like the design, the production design
- 24:18Speaker 2: I think is kind of cool, but they're charming. It's
- 24:23Speaker 2: really good.
- 24:23Speaker 1: The bending looks great when they do have action sequences.
- 24:28Speaker 1: When they do have action sequences that are very, in
- 24:30Speaker 1: my opinion, infrequent, like there are there's not enough action
- 24:34Speaker 1: in the show. I they are that it looks good.
- 24:38Speaker 1: But yeah, anyways, just wanted to get that off my chest.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I know, I'm shocked you you even watched it.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I honestly like barely watched the last couple episodes of
- 24:47Speaker 1: the second season. I was like falling asleep to them
- 24:50Speaker 1: basically because I I'm not gonna lie, didn't have anything
- 24:52Speaker 1: else to watch.
- 24:54Speaker 2: You should watch The Americans, which I finished last week.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm gonna do that.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It's so they're I know your review is your review
- 25:02Speaker 1: was compelling, It's.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Incredible, and now having seen all of it, I can
- 25:06Speaker 2: say definitively it's one of the best TV shows I've
- 25:10Speaker 2: ever watched. Incredibly incredibly no hyperbole, incredible, incredible writing, incredible acting,
- 25:17Speaker 2: some of the saddest characters. Oh my god, Martha, oh girl,
- 25:24Speaker 2: or like there was there's this one scene in the
- 25:27Speaker 2: second season where there is a woman who Matthew Reese's
- 25:35Speaker 2: character has like turned into an agent for him, and
- 25:38Speaker 2: she has in sequence then flipped this afghany like like
- 25:47Speaker 2: diplomat also into being like a secret agent, and he
- 25:53Speaker 2: kills her accidentally, and then Matthew Reese and Carrie Russell
- 25:58Speaker 2: help this person break, like squish this woman's body together
- 26:04Speaker 2: so that they can fit her into a suitcase. And
- 26:07Speaker 2: like you, I mean, you don't see everything, but like
- 26:09Speaker 2: you see out of frame them like bending her limbs
- 26:13Speaker 2: down and like you hear the bones breaking.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It's just fucking gnarly. That sounds kooky, campy.
- 26:20Speaker 2: There's a lot oh my god there it's it's wild,
- 26:24Speaker 2: and it's like it's such a good show and that
- 26:26Speaker 2: like I love I love any kind of film or
- 26:31Speaker 2: TV show where you realize that the protagonist is the antagonist,
- 26:35Speaker 2: that you realize the protagonist, the character that you've been following,
- 26:39Speaker 2: has been the villain all along. That very much is
- 26:44Speaker 2: the case with the American, specifically Carrie Russell's character, so
- 26:49Speaker 2: highly recommend. Also, now that we're almost at the end
- 26:53Speaker 2: of the season of The Vampireless Dat, I do kind
- 26:56Speaker 2: of want to give an update on my thoughts please,
- 27:02Speaker 2: so I have I have seen all the episodes that
- 27:07Speaker 2: are out. The season finale premieres this weekend. I think
- 27:16Speaker 2: the season got better as it went on. The last
- 27:20Speaker 2: two episodes specifically, were the best episodes of the season.
- 27:25Speaker 2: In season five, we finally got to see Akasha, which
- 27:30Speaker 2: was incredible. Sheila at him I think, is her name
- 27:37Speaker 2: fucking fantastic? Like, you know, we have the the image
- 27:42Speaker 2: of specifically Aliyah as Akasha. I think like looms so
- 27:46Speaker 2: large in the public consciousness around Anne Rice and the
- 27:51Speaker 2: Vampire Chronicles that for her to come in and put
- 27:54Speaker 2: a really unique spin on this character and make it
- 27:57Speaker 2: so iconic and make it so that I want us
- 28:00Speaker 2: to get to Queen of the Damned is fab and
- 28:07Speaker 2: then in the sixth episode, Delaney Hales, who plays Claudia,
- 28:13Speaker 2: returned as Claudia's ghost in probably like one of the
- 28:18Speaker 2: best scenes of the show so far. But all that
- 28:22Speaker 2: being said, I still had a lot have a lot
- 28:25Speaker 2: of problems with this season. The editing style has just
- 28:30Speaker 2: like never quite worked for me. I keep wanting to
- 28:35Speaker 2: see these flashbacks rather than montages of them. I still
- 28:40Speaker 2: don't love what they did with Gabriella's character. I wish
- 28:44Speaker 2: there were more Louis and the stat scenes In the
- 28:47Speaker 2: most recent episode, we have the most loostat content and it,
- 28:52Speaker 2: like I it's like amazing, Like, oh yeah, when you
- 28:56Speaker 2: put the stars of the show in a scene together,
- 29:00Speaker 2: the show is really good. And I know that that's
- 29:03Speaker 2: not necessarily like how the story plays out in the book,
- 29:07Speaker 2: but they're playing fast and loose with a lot of
- 29:08Speaker 2: adaptational changes, so I don't understand why we couldn't get
- 29:12Speaker 2: more of that.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I am kind of gagged by everything you're saying, only
- 29:16Speaker 1: because I mean, for virgins who do or do not
- 29:20Speaker 1: watch the Vampire List sat or, like you know, the
- 29:24Speaker 1: interview with the Vampire re reboot series, this is pretty
- 29:27Speaker 1: much your almost your first negative critique of the show.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Ever, Yeah, and I still think it's I still think.
- 29:35Speaker 1: You're like, literally unambiguously given this like one hundred percent
- 29:39Speaker 1: on your critic Rotten Tomatoes, et.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Cetera, for sure, And I do still think it's amazing.
- 29:44Speaker 2: And I think this season is still comparatively better than
- 29:48Speaker 2: most of what's on TV right now. But the first
- 29:52Speaker 2: two seasons of the show were so incredible that this
- 29:58Speaker 2: season has been a little bit of a letdown. And unfortunately,
- 30:03Speaker 2: I do think some of the choices they made in
- 30:07Speaker 2: adapting this Somorts material and just in general changing the
- 30:13Speaker 2: format of the show around Lestat have been bumpy for me,
- 30:20Speaker 2: and I think a lot of.
- 30:21Speaker 1: People who enjoy the show. Well, I won't be tuning in. However,
- 30:29Speaker 1: I did see Sheila and Tim's like an excerpt of
- 30:33Speaker 1: her monologue on Tim Madison's Instagram was incredible, so good.
- 30:40Speaker 2: She she is the queen of the Noil, and just
- 30:44Speaker 2: like the choice to like because you know, in the
- 30:47Speaker 2: in the in the movie and in.
- 30:49Speaker 3: The books, Akasha and Enkil who's her husband, they have
- 30:59Speaker 3: they have been.
- 31:02Speaker 2: At rest for so long that they've become these marble statues.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But in this you know, new version of them. They
- 31:10Speaker 2: have Akasha b Bronze, which is such a cool creative
- 31:15Speaker 2: choice and also I think works so much better the
- 31:19Speaker 2: way that this show has centered around blackness and like
- 31:22Speaker 2: the black American experience. But you know, she was only
- 31:30Speaker 2: She's only in one episode, and there has been no
- 31:34Speaker 2: news about the show being renewed. Shit. I really hope
- 31:39Speaker 2: we do get a season four so that we can
- 31:41Speaker 2: get an adaptation of Queen of the Damned.
- 31:44Speaker 1: That would be amazing.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I think the creators have said that they ended the
- 31:49Speaker 2: third season in a way where it could be a
- 31:52Speaker 2: definitive ending if they don't get renewed. I think they've
- 31:54Speaker 2: said that about every season of the show so far.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I think a lot of TV shows to do kind
- 32:01Speaker 2: of try to do that in case things don't get renewed.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Yeah you don't, you never know. But yeah, it's kind
- 32:09Speaker 2: of a bummer. I still think I still had a
- 32:12Speaker 2: lot of fun, and I do want to go back
- 32:15Speaker 2: and rewatch the whole season once it's all out, so
- 32:21Speaker 2: that I can kind of form my final thoughts a
- 32:26Speaker 2: little better. But yeah, I don't like to be the
- 32:30Speaker 2: person saying that the most recent season of my favorite
- 32:34Speaker 2: show is not that good or it's not as good
- 32:37Speaker 2: as I wanted it to be. But unfortunately that's where
- 32:40Speaker 2: we are.
- 32:40Speaker 1: It happens. You have a few other things on the agenda.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I do want to tell you kind of about
- 32:49Speaker 2: a movie that I don't think you'll.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Ever see the invite. Everyone's talking about this.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't think you'll see it because it's
- 32:55Speaker 2: so heterosexual.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Well, yeah, this is like an Awards contender. No, people
- 33:01Speaker 1: are talking about this for the Oscars conversation.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I do think you should see it. It's a it's
- 33:06Speaker 2: an amazing movie. I gave it four and a half stars.
- 33:08Speaker 1: On Letter Understand Olivia Wilde kiss as a girl. That's
- 33:11Speaker 1: pretty much the only thing that I know about it.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'll give you like the bare bones logline,
- 33:17Speaker 2: it's very it's a it was adapted from a Spanish play,
- 33:21Speaker 2: and it's like, it's very Virginia Wolf. It looks exactly
- 33:24Speaker 2: like very Virginuale. Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf?
- 33:26Speaker 1: I literally am looking at I'm I'm looking literally based
- 33:29Speaker 1: on the key art and typeface, I immediately understand the
- 33:34Speaker 1: tone and and and concede.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's about two couples living in San Francisco, one
- 33:40Speaker 2: of whom are Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogan. The other
- 33:44Speaker 2: are Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz. Uh. Seth and Olivia
- 33:50Speaker 2: live in an apartment downstairs. UH and the other two
- 33:55Speaker 2: are their upstairs neighbor.
- 33:56Speaker 1: ME guess the marriage is troubled.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Their marriages, Well, they invite, they invite. Olivia Wilde invites
- 34:03Speaker 2: their neighbors over because she wants to be friends with them,
- 34:05Speaker 2: while Seth Rogan hates them because they have extremely loud
- 34:09Speaker 2: sex above them. And so it turns into this sort
- 34:14Speaker 2: of you know, comedy of manners, comedy of errors. It
- 34:18Speaker 2: has a lot to say about I think the current
- 34:20Speaker 2: state of you know, like American heterosexual monogamy slash non monogamy.
- 34:30Speaker 2: So they have sets at the end probably well what
- 34:33Speaker 2: you find out. What you find out is that the
- 34:36Speaker 2: couple who live upstairs. Penelope Cruz is a like sex
- 34:40Speaker 2: therapist and edwardologists a sexologist, and Edward Norton is her
- 34:45Speaker 2: retired firefighter boyfriend, and they as the movie goes on,
- 34:51Speaker 2: you find out they want to hook up. They are
- 34:54Speaker 2: are having such loud sex because they're having group sex.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Upstairs and they want to have sex with their with
- 35:02Speaker 2: with Oliviy Wilde and Seth Rogan, and they make the
- 35:06Speaker 2: thing the half a star he took off. This movie
- 35:08Speaker 2: is because they make such a point of negotiating all
- 35:12Speaker 2: this and talking about what's gonna happen, and like the
- 35:14Speaker 2: men they have, it's never even discussed the option that
- 35:21Speaker 2: the guys could do something together. And of course just
- 35:24Speaker 2: of course felt that's crazy. It felt crazy to me
- 35:28Speaker 2: for this movie to be taking place in San Francisco
- 35:32Speaker 2: twenty twenty six.
- 35:33Speaker 1: They given they even talk about.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Pegging in this movie, girl like like Edward Norton talks
- 35:40Speaker 2: about how he loves having his ass played with, and
- 35:42Speaker 2: yet the possibility of the guy is doing anything together
- 35:47Speaker 2: is never even alluded to.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Girl, is this the nineteen eighties, oh, the nineteen fifties,
- 35:56Speaker 1: like maybe their show. There's never even on House of Raging.
- 36:00Speaker 2: There's never even an implication of it. Like, there's never
- 36:03Speaker 2: even a moment where like Seth and Edward like look
- 36:06Speaker 2: at each other and the kind of.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Kiss because men can't kiss, but girl kiss, girl kiss
- 36:11Speaker 1: hot girl kiss hot men kiss bad men kiss gross?
- 36:15Speaker 2: No, no, no, like not, there's not even like a oh,
- 36:18Speaker 2: we'll all fucked together or like in the same room.
- 36:22Speaker 2: It's like when they you know spoiler, when they do
- 36:24Speaker 2: eventually like they're gonna hook up, like both couple, both
- 36:29Speaker 2: new heterosexual pairings often into into separate rooms.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Girl, Like that, what the fuck? A failure of the imagination.
- 36:39Speaker 1: There's there's literally nothing radical about that. There's nothing titillating, exciting,
- 36:44Speaker 1: radical new age, nothing shocking about that. That is like
- 36:49Speaker 1: literally such a failure of the imagination. I'm so sorry,
- 36:52Speaker 1: I'm like actually so angry.
- 36:54Speaker 2: It was. It was shocking to me. It just felt
- 36:58Speaker 2: like for a movie, movie that had so much to
- 37:03Speaker 2: say so incisively about modern relationships, for that to be
- 37:09Speaker 2: such a blind spot was crazy. Otherwise, the movie is amazing,
- 37:15Speaker 2: especially Olivia Wilde's performance. Okay cool, my god, she will
- 37:21Speaker 2: be getting an Oscar nomination. She also it's also incredibly
- 37:25Speaker 2: well directed by her, directed and starred it script weirdly
- 37:30Speaker 2: enough by Rashida Jones to come back after kill your
- 37:34Speaker 2: Darlings or whatever, don't don't kill me, darling, Darling, which
- 37:37Speaker 2: I let's remember I liked. Yeah, I remember, I'm a defender.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Yeah I did I justice justice for don't worry Darling.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I defended Harry Styles acting, not as.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I defended Harry Styles saying it's a movie that feels
- 37:51Speaker 2: like a movie, because a movie, right, he was right.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Another movie I've seen it feels like a movie that
- 37:59Speaker 2: you have it is Evil Dead Burn? Which is which
- 38:03Speaker 2: is the new Evil Dead movie coming after Evil Dead Rise?
- 38:08Speaker 2: From twenty twenty three or twenty streamable? I want to
- 38:12Speaker 2: stream it, No, it's in theaters right now. I think
- 38:15Speaker 2: you will watch it once it's on streaming. So I
- 38:18Speaker 2: don't want to go to in depth on it because
- 38:20Speaker 2: I think we could talk about it later. What I
- 38:22Speaker 2: will say is it's an interesting take on an Evil
- 38:26Speaker 2: Dead movie, because most Evil Dead movies are about a
- 38:29Speaker 2: group of friends in some location and scary shit happens.
- 38:33Speaker 2: This is about a family. They're at a wake after
- 38:38Speaker 2: someone has died, and it's really well directed, and in fact,
- 38:46Speaker 2: the director is insanely hot.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Oh god, I'm looking.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I gave an extra half star on box for how
- 38:54Speaker 2: hot he is, Sebastian Venicek. He's also French.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Oh oh my god, it looks like that as.
- 39:01Speaker 2: A French accent.
- 39:02Speaker 1: He looks gay. He's wearing gay clothes.
- 39:05Speaker 2: I think it's just because he's French.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Oh, you're right.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very well directed, script not so great and
- 39:15Speaker 2: there The Evil Did Rise was a really fun movie
- 39:20Speaker 2: that is elevated because of the incredible central performance by
- 39:25Speaker 2: Alyssa Sutherland as the mother slash lead Deadite. While there
- 39:31Speaker 2: are some good Deadite performances in Evil Dead Burn, there
- 39:36Speaker 2: is no singular performance like that for the movie to
- 39:40Speaker 2: sort of, you know, revolve around, so it never kind
- 39:45Speaker 2: of hits that spot that really like takes it over
- 39:49Speaker 2: the edge. There also is an elderly character who, while
- 39:54Speaker 2: she does become possessed, it kind of felt like a
- 39:58Speaker 2: waste of an old person in a horror movie because
- 40:00Speaker 2: I feel like rich opportunity. Horror movies really love old
- 40:04Speaker 2: people because I think they we we culturally have a
- 40:07Speaker 2: lot of disgust with the elderly that directors and writers
- 40:12Speaker 2: are able to really play into and and expand on.
- 40:18Speaker 2: And I just didn't think that this did enough With that.
- 40:22Speaker 2: That being said, there's some really great gore, some great kills.
- 40:26Speaker 2: A dog does die, unfortunately, but then it comes back
- 40:31Speaker 2: as a zombie, so that's fierce.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Okay, I'm sorry, we weren't going to talk about this.
- 40:36Speaker 1: But like I did watch Lee Crunnin's The Mummy, which,
- 40:41Speaker 1: for the Virgins, is a new horror film that has
- 40:44Speaker 1: nothing to do whatsoever with the original Mummy franchise. No,
- 40:51Speaker 1: that has literally not even not even an adaptation of
- 40:54Speaker 1: the original stories. Nothing to do with the original story.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Is just another separate movie called The Mummy. The youth
- 41:00Speaker 1: of the kind of grandmother in that movie was sab
- 41:06Speaker 1: In my opinion.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Also directed directed by Lee Cronin, who directed Evil Dead Rise.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Right, which we love.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Yes, but that's why I didn't like The Mummy, because
- 41:15Speaker 2: I felt like it was just an Evil Dead movie.
- 41:19Speaker 2: There was any one hundred percent agree it was an
- 41:20Speaker 2: evil Dead movie. Itcase same conceits, same kind of driving,
- 41:23Speaker 2: for same kind of light camp in some of the
- 41:26Speaker 2: gore aesthetic. There was nothing. There was nothing specifically Mummy
- 41:30Speaker 2: about it except for the fact that she was like
- 41:32Speaker 2: wrapped in bandages and had gone missing in Egypt.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Okay, okay, So like for the Virgins, I'll just say
- 41:37Speaker 1: for the Virgins, like, the story follows an Egyptian family
- 41:41Speaker 1: that mysteriously loses their daughter. The daughter has been presumed dead.
- 41:46Speaker 1: They're not Egyptian, they're not even a Egyptian. Yeah they are,
- 41:49Speaker 1: I thought they were. They they start out in Egypt,
- 41:51Speaker 1: and then because.
- 41:53Speaker 2: The dad is like an ambassador or something, what's Yeah,
- 41:56Speaker 2: they're not Egyptian.
- 41:58Speaker 1: She goes, how much it goes to show how much
- 41:59Speaker 1: I know. But a lot of the film is in Arabic,
- 42:01Speaker 1: which is cool. Anyways, the daughters presumed dead, and then
- 42:04Speaker 1: eight years go by, the families moved to Albuquerque and
- 42:07Speaker 1: they've been notified that their daughter was found dot dot alive,
- 42:12Speaker 1: and the daughter is found basically in a sarcophagus kind
- 42:15Speaker 1: of in a mummy coffin that was being transported by
- 42:19Speaker 1: like a seaplane. The seaplane crashes, everyone dies except this
- 42:22Speaker 1: girl who's basically just a demon possessed kind of Lee
- 42:26Speaker 1: cron And style Evil Dead.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it just has had I liked. I liked it.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I was like gooped and gagged. I thought it was
- 42:35Speaker 1: like I didn't have like any even though it wasn't
- 42:39Speaker 1: like sublime like I thought it was kind of. I liked.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I laughed sometimes, and I thought the gore was really good.
- 42:47Speaker 1: But yeah, it's not like lasting impact film.
- 42:51Speaker 2: I just found it very disappointing in that, like, how
- 42:53Speaker 2: are you gonna make a movie called the Mummy. I
- 42:56Speaker 2: like the least important part of it is the fact
- 42:59Speaker 2: that she's like, quote unquote Mummy.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Yeah, like why call it that?
- 43:02Speaker 2: Honestly? But maybe it literally could have just been evil
- 43:05Speaker 2: Dead sarcophagus, you know, yeah, evil Dead Egypt.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I like that we're adding to the Mummy cannon. It
- 43:13Speaker 1: just should have been called something else.
- 43:14Speaker 2: That's all.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Like, I like expanding on the Mummy cannon and that
- 43:19Speaker 1: there's this like yeah, like contemporary sensibility and then Mummy
- 43:24Speaker 1: as demon possession I think is interesting. But it is
- 43:27Speaker 1: just an evil Dead movie for sure.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so not not not huge like a virgin stamp
- 43:34Speaker 2: of approval now there.
- 43:37Speaker 1: But I thought I thought the Mummy was cunt like.
- 43:39Speaker 1: I thought she was kind of autopsy of jin do
- 43:43Speaker 1: levels kind of like cunt.
- 43:44Speaker 2: I thought that Timdress gave a really great horror performance.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I agree, I thought she was fab Okay, Anyways, the
- 43:54Speaker 1: only thing we have to say about House to Dragon
- 43:56Speaker 1: this week, I mean, it'll be obvious to the virgins.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Ormond High towers ass well, but why didn't they
- 44:04Speaker 2: show cock? They should have showed cocking. We're seeing so
- 44:09Speaker 2: much nasty shit on this show. We can't see cock.
- 44:13Speaker 1: We can't see cock. Cock.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Do you think that actor is gay? Because I've seen
- 44:18Speaker 2: some interviews with him. He seems a little fruity.
- 44:20Speaker 1: He one. Sorry, It's like I keep forgetting that we're
- 44:23Speaker 1: on the main RSS feed now and that we probably
- 44:25Speaker 1: shouldn't speculate about people's sexualities like I just did with
- 44:28Speaker 1: the director of Evil Dead Bird.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Well, it's okay.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I do think he's gay, by the way, I'm looking
- 44:36Speaker 1: up and he has not quote unquote revealed any information
- 44:39Speaker 1: about his sexual orientation, which means he's gay.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Because was he at Club Confessions?
- 44:43Speaker 1: Yes, I will.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Say there were a lot of guys who looked exactly
- 44:47Speaker 2: like Kim met Club Confessions.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Yes, well, so okay. The actor who plays Ormond High Tower,
- 44:54Speaker 1: his name is James Norton. He was in Uh, He's
- 44:57Speaker 1: played gay three times. He was he played the this
- 45:00Speaker 1: gay manager. He was in the stage adaptation of A
- 45:04Speaker 1: Little Life. Oh yes, girl, And he has a gay
- 45:09Speaker 1: ass and a gay body.
- 45:10Speaker 2: And sorry in interviews he has a gay voice.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Straight man don't have bodies like that, and I this
- 45:16Speaker 1: is like, really they do?
- 45:18Speaker 2: When there?
- 45:18Speaker 1: I think it might have a girlfriend. So he probably
- 45:20Speaker 1: should stop talking about this, but maybe we'll just say
- 45:22Speaker 1: he has gay vibes and there's nothing wrong with that.
- 45:27Speaker 1: And if you think there's something wrong with that, you're homophobic.
- 45:30Speaker 2: You know who is homophobic the Emmys because Industry was
- 45:36Speaker 2: snubbed in every fucking category.
- 45:40Speaker 1: That's so psycho. I like, girl, I read like an
- 45:49Speaker 1: indie wire kind of like opinion piece explainer by Crystal
- 45:53Speaker 1: Fault that it like does some like we're Rose and
- 45:57Speaker 1: I were not like Insider Baseball Awards, Whisper Divas, like
- 46:01Speaker 1: we just have taste and we know which things are good.
- 46:06Speaker 1: But what was explained is that when a show kind
- 46:09Speaker 1: of doesn't have the prestige label from jump, when it's
- 46:14Speaker 1: like a show that appreciates in value season every season,
- 46:18Speaker 1: and Industry has a really great first season, not a
- 46:21Speaker 1: great second season, and then season three, season four was
- 46:24Speaker 1: when people were having a lot more of this prestige
- 46:27Speaker 1: TV kind of accletes conversation. He the writer Chrystal Fault
- 46:32Speaker 1: says that, like it kind of demonstrates this thing that
- 46:36Speaker 1: happens in words where if you don't start out like this,
- 46:39Speaker 1: it's like it's really impossible to earn the prestige label
- 46:45Speaker 1: in later seasons, even though like what fucking what is
- 46:50Speaker 1: her name? Marissa Marissa, I can't remember who plays yasmine.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Marissa Abella, Yeah, Marcavelle and Mahala like they both have.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Nominated or Supporting Actress noms, Like why why why, I'm
- 47:06Speaker 1: so sorry for.
- 47:06Speaker 2: The best work on TV. Actually the biggest, the biggest
- 47:10Speaker 2: snub for me was ken Lung nominated for Supporting our
- 47:17Speaker 2: Guest Actor. His work in every season of Industry has
- 47:23Speaker 2: been it's exemplary, and in the most recent season he
- 47:30Speaker 2: made me extremely emotional yes, with a really incredible performance,
- 47:36Speaker 2: particularly in his final episode.
- 47:39Speaker 1: And ken Lung has been like prestige from Jump, like Marissa,
- 47:43Speaker 1: Isabelle and Muhala like have been giving stunning performances from Jump.
- 47:47Speaker 1: But there the quality and characterization just it just gets
- 47:52Speaker 1: richer and richer and richer, and ken Lung like was
- 47:55Speaker 1: complex from like the first scene.
- 47:58Speaker 2: It also just feels like a missed opportunity because I
- 48:00Speaker 2: do think feel like the Emmys and their voting body
- 48:04Speaker 2: loved to give people kind of like representative awards for
- 48:08Speaker 2: their career of work that has not been celebrated. Yes,
- 48:12Speaker 2: and he really does fall into that category. Meanwhile, why
- 48:18Speaker 2: the fuck is the wet eyed twink from The Pit nominated?
- 48:22Speaker 2: When he was barely in the most recent season.
- 48:25Speaker 1: He was nominated.
- 48:26Speaker 2: He was nominated for a Supporting Actor. It's crazy like
- 48:30Speaker 2: everyone from that show was nominated except for the women
- 48:33Speaker 2: of color. And I didn't like as much as I
- 48:36Speaker 2: love The Pit, I didn't even think the second season
- 48:39Speaker 2: was as good as the first one.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I kind of am I gonna say it.
- 48:46Speaker 1: I also think that the Awards season's I think that
- 48:52Speaker 1: the Emmy's kind of like obsession with Hacks over the
- 48:55Speaker 1: last couple of years also sometimes feels overblown. I think
- 48:59Speaker 1: that obvious.
- 49:00Speaker 2: It's like they only watch three shows, you know, and
- 49:03Speaker 2: they're like, we have to we have to nominate every
- 49:05Speaker 2: single part of this show rather than watching anything else.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Jean Smart deserves everything. Like that's there's no question about that.
- 49:13Speaker 1: It's just like that they're Yeah, I think you're exactly
- 49:16Speaker 1: on the on the nose. They only watch three shows.
- 49:19Speaker 1: And it also it's like kind of the shows that
- 49:22Speaker 1: are working the hardest campaign. Probably.
- 49:25Speaker 2: However, I am happy about all the nominations that Widow's
- 49:28Speaker 2: bagot because that's cast me feel like that show now
- 49:33Speaker 2: will have very long legs. I the only thing I
- 49:37Speaker 2: hope is that they don't start tailoring the show based
- 49:42Speaker 2: on its reception, Like I don't want that it's suddenly
- 49:45Speaker 2: like Patricia is the main character of season two, Like
- 49:49Speaker 2: I want. I want the show to stay what it is.
- 49:53Speaker 2: And you know, maybe that's a good thing about industry
- 49:55Speaker 2: is because they're not working towards awards, are just making
- 50:01Speaker 2: the show they want to make. Maybe you know it
- 50:04Speaker 2: will be as good throughout its entire run as it
- 50:07Speaker 2: has been because what you said is so true. It
- 50:10Speaker 2: really has appreciated. Every season has been the best season
- 50:15Speaker 2: so far.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it really has. It's it's and it's just also
- 50:20Speaker 1: on an acting level, Like I don't know. I sometimes
- 50:24Speaker 1: I wonder like what I was, Like, is it like
- 50:27Speaker 1: the sex that people don't but I remember that like
- 50:30Speaker 1: fucking like you know, House the Dragon or wait, what's
- 50:34Speaker 1: the Night of Seven Kingdoms or whatever?
- 50:36Speaker 2: That was crazy. I'm sorry. As much as I loved
- 50:39Speaker 2: that show, it did not need all those Emmy nominations.
- 50:42Speaker 1: No, I'm like, yeah, I don't, I don't really, Yeah, whatever,
- 50:48Speaker 1: we clearly.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Are not part of the Emmy's voting body.
- 50:51Speaker 1: No, but we should be.
- 50:53Speaker 2: We should be. Yeah, we should be nominated for a
- 50:55Speaker 2: Golden Globe for Best Podcast.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Oh you should write in and no, I mean you,
- 51:03Speaker 2: the listeners should write in yes, so that we can
- 51:07Speaker 2: be nominated for the twenty twenty seven Golden Globes.
- 51:12Speaker 1: We're coming for you, Amy Poehler. Okay, I feel like
- 51:18Speaker 1: that concludes our itinerary. Yeah, I am oh oh for
- 51:27Speaker 1: the virgins again. Go back, go to our Patreon at
- 51:31Speaker 1: patreon dot com slash like a Virgin and listen to
- 51:33Speaker 1: our Confessions Deep Dive, an hour and forty minute episode

- 51:39Speaker 1: by track reviews, et cetera. And also, we will be
- 51:43Speaker 1: doing a ranking of female that's right, I said, female
- 51:48Speaker 1: led action movies, maybe bracketing them.
- 51:53Speaker 2: And we're gonna pit women against each other because it's
- 51:56Speaker 2: what we know how to do best. Yeah, and what
- 51:57Speaker 2: we love to do.
- 51:59Speaker 1: And yeah, more to come. Love you so much, Visions,
