Transcript
- 0:00Hello everybody and welcome back to the Elon Musk podcast.
- 0:03Today we have two topics to discuss.
- 0:06One of them is Twitter or X and the other is Tesla.
- 0:11But for let's talk about Tesla first, because it's right on the
- 0:14tip of my brain here. And Elon Musk, of course, is
- 0:19making a ton of money through Tesla, but he wants to make even
- 0:22more money with the brand now. He's a leader of Tesla right now
- 0:27is He's confidently projecting that the company could touch the
- 0:32phenomenal mark of $4 trillion in valuation.
- 0:36So this prediction is bold, naturally bound to attract
- 0:40attention, scrutiny in both support and skepticism in the
- 0:43financial and automotive sectors as well.
- 0:46Behind Musk in this bullish stance is Ron Baron, a
- 0:50billionaire investor who has been a staunch supporter of Musk
- 0:54for a considerable period. Parents optimism isn't
- 0:56restricted to Tesla though. He anticipates even bigger
- 1:00returns when Musk's venture, SpaceX, opens its doors to
- 1:04public investment. Elon Musk has been on record
- 1:07numerous times saying that he does not want to take SpaceX
- 1:12public, though maybe a branch of it for Starlink, but not the
- 1:16whole company. So let's get back into Tesla.
- 1:20Tesla's road map to such a hefty valuation isn't based on mere
- 1:23speculation or wishful thinking. There are tangible products and
- 1:27innovations going forward. Chief among them is the full
- 1:31self driving suite. They've been working on this for
- 1:33a while. Musk's perennial assurance since
- 1:352015 has been that Tesla is on the cusp of mastering this
- 1:39technology. Yet the reality as of 2023 is
- 1:43that Tesla's full self driving remains at the Level 2 SAE
- 1:47autonomous category. The aspiration of course, is to
- 1:50achieve the pinnacle Level 5. This would fundamentally change
- 1:54how we perceive transport now. This will enable Tesla's
- 1:58proposed Robo taxi fleet where vehicles could autonomously
- 2:02ferry passengers even as the car's owner is resting.
- 2:06Come and pick you up, take you to where you're going to and
- 2:08another vehicle would come and pick you up there and take you
- 2:11to another place or back home. But full self driving isn't
- 2:16Tesla's only card in its ambitious play towards the $4
- 2:19trillion valuation. The company's eyes are set on
- 2:22global domination. In the EV market, this would
- 2:25mean producing and selling millions of E VS annually across
- 2:28various global markets. Key to the strategy is the
- 2:31introduction of new Gigafactories in the rollout of
- 2:34affordable car models, a plan that's been on Tesla's strategic
- 2:37board for years now. Musk's vision is clear and he
- 2:40acknowledges these challenges, stating we do need to knock the
- 2:44ball out of the park several times to achieve that value, but
- 2:48I think we can. Market reactions to these
- 2:50projections, however, have been a little bit mixed and while
- 2:54there was a surge of 67% in Tesla shares this year, they
- 2:57haven't quite made a full recovery from the slump
- 3:00experience in 2022. Now Tesla's journey in the stock
- 3:03market is akin to a roller coaster ride with highs such as
- 3:0767% increase in stock value. And there have also been lows
- 3:12like a significant decline in October due to factors like
- 3:15underwhelming quarterly results and moderated excitement about
- 3:18the cyber truck. And nonetheless, glimmers of
- 3:21hope persist. Recent data showcases A slight
- 3:24increase in Tesla sales in China, suggesting that the
- 3:27market still has faith. Last year, Musk made headlines
- 3:30with this claim that Tesla's valuation might even eclipse Tex
- 3:34mammoths like Apple. While the stock has been a edit
- 3:38this out, while the stock has seen a dip since that
- 3:41proclamation, the vision remains undeterred.
- 3:44Now, Ron Barron's take on the future trajectory of Tesla is
- 3:48especially noteworthy, though in his eyes, Tesla is poised to be
- 3:51more than just a pioneering car company.
- 3:54He believes that its influence will be paramount in the battery
- 3:57technology sector. Drawing an analogy with Intel's
- 4:00ubiquitous presence in the computer industry, Baron sees
- 4:03Tesla as a driving force behind autonomous technologies adopted
- 4:06by other vehicle manufacturers. Now, if these predictions hold
- 4:10water in the combined visions of Musk and Baron come to fruition,
- 4:14a $4 trillion valuation for Tesla may become a reality,
- 4:19turning skeptics into believers. Now let's move over to Twitter.
- 4:24This is kind of a weird one, so bear with me on this one.
- 4:28Elon Musk recently acquired Twitter about over a year ago,
- 4:33and his decision was rooted in what he perceives as a defense
- 4:36against a mind virus. He said this on Joe Rogan, and
- 4:40this term as explained by Musk signifies the modern
- 4:43progression. Edit this out signifies the
- 4:45modern progressive ideologies or quote woke thinking, which he
- 4:49believes has a deteriorative impact on society.
- 4:53And Musk's comments came to light during a candid interview
- 4:56on Joe Rogan. Rogan probed him about the
- 4:58purchase, and Musk's perspective revealed A profound concern over
- 5:01the direction in which modern society and thought processes
- 5:05are headed. The Musk painted a really bleak
- 5:08picture of downtown San Francisco, likening it to a
- 5:11zombie apocalypse. He posed the thought provoking
- 5:14question about the philosophy that could lead to such a
- 5:16deterioration. He contended that ideologies
- 5:19which otherwise would have been limited to niche groups and
- 5:22specific geographies found a potent tool in information
- 5:25technology. This enabled them to spread
- 5:27their ideas or the so-called mind virus far and wide.
- 5:31Drawing an analogy with a dismal state of San Francisco, Musk
- 5:34alluded to the harmful effects of such ideologies.
- 5:38Broken in agreement equated the mind virus to a death cult,
- 5:41emphasizing its detrimental influence on humanity and
- 5:44civilization. Now the drama surrounding Musk's
- 5:47acquisition of Twitter was noteworthy.
- 5:49Following his initial $44 billion bid for the platform in
- 5:52spring of 2022, Musk sought to retract his offer.
- 5:56His withdrawal was based on suspicions of bot activity,
- 5:59which he believed was falsely inflated Twitter's daily active
- 6:02user metrics. However, in A twist and a turn
- 6:05of events, Twitter retaliated with a lawsuit to uphold Musk's
- 6:08bidding offer. By the end of 2022, Musk
- 6:11conceded and finalized his acquisition.
- 6:13His critique of woke ideologies is not new.
- 6:17In the past, he expressed concerns over the perceived
- 6:19suppression of certain viewpoints on social media
- 6:22platforms like Twitter, especially under his previous
- 6:24management. Now, Musk's business decisions
- 6:27often intertwine with his political stances.
- 6:30His relocation of Tesla from Palo Alto, CA to Austin, TX in
- 6:33October 2021 serves as an example.
- 6:36This move came a year after he labeled California's COVID
- 6:40health directives as fascist, and despite cautioning Austin
- 6:44about becoming a replica of San Francisco.
- 6:46Tesla's corporate hub remains rooted in Texas, with his
- 6:50engineering headquarters reverting to Palo Alto Now.
