Transcript
- 1:15When I saw their fear, I stood and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, do not be afraid of them.
- 1:20Remember the Lord who is great and awesome and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives and your houses.
- 1:27It's a quote from Nehemiah of the Bible, the Hebrew scriptures.
- 1:31Who is going to be one of the characters today in this episode of Geeks on a Roll on Systematic Geekology.
- 1:36Geeks on a Roll is a series we've been doing.
- 1:38Take some of our favorite characters from across pop culture, occasionally scripture and stuff, and we just play through a tabletop campaign together.
- 1:45I'm Gonna be the GM today.
- 1:46Joshua Knoll here with the two most handsome, most incredible players.
- 1:51TJ Tiberius 1, Blackwell, the Pot almighty.
- 1:53Michael Morelli, the smart guy.
- 1:56Other people might say they're smart, but he is the smart guy.
- 2:00You know, PhD of theology, great guy, knows pop culture.
- 2:05It is just, just a wonderful human to hang out with.
- 2:08I asked them to come up with a team of five for today's episode.
- 2:10It was gonna be a Hebrew character, a character with background, a large animal character of some sort, a Kaiju, a Pokemon or Digimon and a princess.
- 2:18So today they chose Nehemiah from the Bible, Blastoise, the Pokemon, Beorn from the Hobbit, Merida from Pixar's Brave, and Mothra, the Kaiju.
- 2:27You know, Godzilla stuff.
- 2:28Yeah, exactly.
- 2:31Right now the high score in this series was set by Christian Ashley and mark flower with 48 points.
- 2:37Today we're going to see if TJ Blackwell and Michael Morelli can best their score here.
- 2:42In a little bit I'll explain how the scoring works.
- 2:44But for now we set the stage.
- 2:46Now we got to talk to those beautiful, beautiful men that I mentioned.
- 2:50TJ Tiberius Wan Pod Almighty.
- 2:53What have you been geeking out on lately, man?
- 2:55For clarity reasons, this is attempt two at this and last time I said a different thing.
- 3:02So don't be confused, guys.
- 3:03I'm gonna go with Tekken 8.
- 3:04Actually, I just decided it was time to be good at Tekken.
- 3:08I've had enough of only playing 2D fighting games.
- 3:11So most of my morning has been sit sitting here with my buttons and figuring out Tekken.
- 3:18Fair enough, fair enough.
- 3:19Well, that wasn't as smooth of a transition as last time when you mentioned magic.
- 3:23Because I've been playing a deck building video game.
- 3:26Marvel Midnight Suns.
- 3:27I've been putting off for a long time because I wanted to play because it was Marvel, but it was turn based combat and I was like, I don't know.
- 3:33I like more dynamic fighting style stuff, but it was on sale for Summer on Steam, and I'm addicted.
- 3:39It's incredible.
- 3:40You got your dark magic characters like Nero, like Doctor Strange magic, and then you got your mainstream Iron Man, Spider Man, Hulk and stuff, too, and it's just.
- 3:50It's a blast.
- 3:50I can't put it down.
- 3:52Michael.
- 3:52What?
- 3:53What have you been geeking out on lately, man?
- 3:54We have no idea.
- 3:55This isn't take two.
- 3:56TJ's wrong.
- 3:56We have no idea.
- 3:57This is not take two.
- 3:58This is the first time I'm answering this question.
- 4:01I'm nerding out on the final season of the Bear.
- 4:06I love that show.
- 4:07Yeah, tell us about that.
- 4:08Yeah, me too.
- 4:09I mean, so, you know, in preparation, I actually started an essay.
- 4:14I wanted to make the essay, like, done and dusted before the final season.
- 4:19Just to say, like, whatever happens, this show is awesome and it's a gift, and I wanted to reflect on it, but it just didn't feel like the essay was done.
- 4:28So I watched the final season.
- 4:31I've got some thoughts.
- 4:32Now I need to nerd out some more so I can finish the essay.
- 4:36Nice.
- 4:36Nice.
- 4:37Yeah, I can't wait to finish that season as well, because I haven't finished.
- 4:40And then read your essay afterwards.
- 4:41I don't want to hype it, you know?
- 4:43You know, I don't want to hype it.
- 4:44I just want to say watch it, and I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.
- 4:47Yeah.
- 4:48Michael's like, it's actually really bad, and I can't believe.
- 4:52Yeah, Just lower expectations.
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:55All right, well, with that, hopefully won't lower your expectations too much.
- 5:00If you go to our website.
- 5:01Hopefully you'll be like, oh, man, this is pretty good.
- 5:03You'll see some of our merch.
- 5:05You can sponsor the show, etc.
- 5:07Speaking of sponsors, I do like to shout out one sponsor today.
- 5:09Today we're shouting out financial supporter Trip Fuller.
- 5:14We all love you, Tripp.
- 5:15I'm gonna be at Theology Beer Camp.
- 5:16The other two were undecided.
- 5:18Current plan is to dress Michael Morelli up in a hurricane's hockey outfit and tell everyone he's tj.
- 5:24Because TJ won't be able to make it.
- 5:25So we're just gonna, you know, we'll move some stuff around, move some round trip.
- 5:28We'll do a two in one.
- 5:29You'll get both.
- 5:29You'll never even know.
- 5:30I've always wanted to be TJ for a day.
- 5:33Yeah.
- 5:33Oh, I really want to go.
- 5:34I just don't Know if I can make it this year.
- 5:36So you'll be there, tj, don't worry.
- 5:38Anyways, with that though, if you want your own shout out like Trip, I mentioned the website, you can go over there, you become an official member, sponsor the show.
- 5:47If you don't want to be an official member though, you can leave a one time tip.
- 5:49You can buy merch, you can check out some of the bonus episodes.
- 5:52There's all kinds of stuff.
- 5:53Some of my favorite merch is the Geeks on Roll T shirts that we sell.
- 5:56I really like the mustard yellow because I love yellow.
- 6:00I don't like mustard so much, so I was kind of worried about it, but then I saw it when I got it and I'm like, oh, this is great.
- 6:04Only problem is I have some grease stains and the original one, the logo is a little bit too big.
- 6:08So I have a new one coming that I'm going to wear at Theology Beer Camp.
- 6:10So there.
- 6:10Look, I plugged Theology Beer Camp twice.
- 6:13And this is the first time I'm saying this, but Beer Camp is awesome.
- 6:17But also, the yellow of this T shirt is spectacular.
- 6:22It is actually more spectacular than the yellow of Bumblebee in the Transformers movies.
- 6:29And that's a spectacular yellow.
- 6:31You do.
- 6:31Also, you have to keep in mind the lighting in Josh's office is like really, really bad.
- 6:37Yeah.
- 6:38And even this, I'm like blown away by this hue of yellow.
- 6:43I think it's so funny how different the yellow I'm wearing looks than the slide that's showing right now.
- 6:47That's humorous to me.
- 6:49It kind of looks like a pale mango just going to that go into.
- 6:52That lighty,.
- 6:55Lighty everything, folks.
- 6:57Yeah.
- 6:57So we mentioned this is part of our Geeks on the Roll series.
- 7:02If you want more episodes like this of some tabletop fun, you know, omniverse pop culture, whatever craziness stories that we play through.
- 7:10There's a link also in the show description.
- 7:12There's lots of links in the show's description.
- 7:13Check out all of them.
- 7:14If you want more from us, you can get more from all of systemic ecology except for tj.
- 7:19He's the Pod Almighty.
- 7:20And part of the agreement to prevent blasphemy was that he can't be everywhere.
- 7:24You can know everything.
- 7:25You just can't be everywhere.
- 7:27Yeah.
- 7:27Him and God had to.
- 7:28Yeah.
- 7:30Yeah.
- 7:30Just so we're not getting into that blasphemy territory, you know, that's all.
- 7:35With that though, we are going to go ahead and move on to today's episode.
- 7:42I've mentioned.
- 7:43I'm not sure where I first heard the phrase theology as play.
- 7:47I mean, I know it was at theology beer camp, I just don't remember who said it.
- 7:49And I'm going to put Michael Morelli on the spot.
- 7:52You hear the phrase theology is played, what I heard at beer camp, it was something like theology is embodied and it's actually important that we game, that we play, that we do stuff together.
- 8:02Michael, if you just had to guess, just hearing that phrase, what do you think that phrase means or what does it mean to you when you first hear it?
- 8:08Well, it makes me think of another quote from the musician artist Brian Eno.
- 8:13I can't remember what interview it was, but he said kids learn through play and adults play through art.
- 8:21And I thought he was so right.
- 8:22But I also think that there are some adults who are honest about their learning through play.
- 8:29And I think theology we can group in there as well is at least theology in the way that I want to do it is a bit like, you know, the artistic risk or the, or just the free space
- 8:45of games and play is you just go to the edges of your imagination in yourself and have fun and get excited and get freaked out or whatever.
- 8:57Then every once in a while you turn around and say, who's with me?
- 9:00Am I the only one?
- 9:02And I think that's the type of art that moves people.
- 9:05That's the type of games that move people and changes people and the type of theology that that moves and changes people.
- 9:13So that's what comes to mind.
- 9:15I like that.
- 9:16What you said brought to my mind, surprisingly to everyone is CS Lewis.
- 9:21He talks about how a lot of times our reasoning really isn't what gets us to our beliefs, but it's almost like a guardian that's preventing us from seeing new things.
- 9:30And sometimes imagination can kind of sneak past that dragon and get us to see stuff in a way that we wouldn't before.
- 9:35And I think that's like a lot of play, a lot of this kind of stuff.
- 9:38That's what I think of is like sometimes we're so guarded, especially as adults, because we have had all these building blocks our whole lives of like, this is what we believe and we can't believe other things.
- 9:46And sometimes playing, letting your guard down a little bit, seeing a story, experiencing art, that kind of stuff can let us kind of sneak past that and maybe see stuff from a different perspective.
- 9:54And what I like about tabletop role playing games is we are choosing different perspectives.
- 9:59Like, you know, I've never thought of life as Merida from Pixar.
- 10:03Like, I, you know, I don't think of stuff like that all the time.
- 10:06So it forces us to think as other people and then maybe have a little more empathy and see the world differently.
- 10:11100%.
- 10:12Yeah.
- 10:13I mean, you know, people are saying, why?
- 10:16Why are we such a.
- 10:19In a state where people don't have empathy or compassion?
- 10:23And it's like, well, imagination is essential for empathy and compassion and fine arts games play, all this teaches us imagination, which is essential for compassion and empathy.
- 10:35So are we surprised when we, you know, think of it as lesser, you know, than like all the important things we should be doing?
- 10:42When you're like, actually developing our imagination for the purposes of empathy and compassion is actually like literally a life or death thing at this point.
- 10:51So, yeah, yeah.
- 10:53What Michael Morelli is trying to say is the reason we don't have enough compassion in the world is not enough people listen to systemic egology.
- 10:58So, hell yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying.
- 11:01Or playing enough D and D.
- 11:03Yeah, yeah.
- 11:04Share the episode and then text TJ to play D and D.
- 11:07He'll probably do it.
- 11:09We figured something out.
- 12:23So do want to go through before we get to the campaign, the characters you chose?
- 12:28So again, I'll do it in order.
- 12:31So for Large Animal, you guys chose Beorn.
- 12:35Do you want to talk some about who he is or why you chose him?
- 12:39Just real briefly?
- 12:41Yeah, so I chose Bjorn Beorn, however you want to say it, just because I always found him to be such a fascinating character in the Hobbit.
- 12:53For those who are uninitiated, I'm assuming anybody who's listening to this show is Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Key.
- 13:01But in case you're not the party of Bilbo and the dwarves and Gandalf, they stop off at Beorn's place during their journey and they discover that Beorn, this mysterious kind of wild man, he's almost kind of got this
- 13:24like John the Baptist vibe where he's got all these animals and he's got like bees and honey and all that sort of stuff.
- 13:31He can also transform into a giant bear.
- 13:34And that's just cool.
- 13:35It's just cool.
- 13:36It's so cool.
- 13:37So when you said, when you said animal, I was like, does this like large animals?
- 13:41Like, does this count?
- 13:42A shape shifter?
- 13:44And you were like, yes.
- 13:47Trying to do the yes.
- 13:48And whatever you guys think counts, count, right?
- 13:49Yeah.
- 13:50So these first two are the ones I think surprised me the most because, like, in my mind, big animal we were going to do, like, King Kong, maybe even Clifford the Big Red Dog or something.
- 13:58Clifford was.
- 13:59Did come to mind.
- 14:00Yeah, Or Big Bird.
- 14:02Yeah, Big Bird is, like, so obvious.
- 14:04Plus the theme of yellow.
- 14:06And when I said Hebrew character, character, you know, inspired with Jewish background, my brain went, they're going to just say Superman, but instead we have Nehemiah.
- 14:17So let me hear, let me hear why.
- 14:18Why we got Nehemiah up here?
- 14:19Well, okay.
- 14:20Well, so first of all, in our group chat, when we were deciding, like, I just listed all the ones because I thought TJ was going to pick some and I was going to pick some.
- 14:28So then I was.
- 14:29I just, like, I just picked a bunch of people and listed them off, thinking.
- 14:35And then I was like, wow, that's very presumptuous that Michael's just forming the team without any interaction with tj.
- 14:40And TJ was very gracious.
- 14:42Yeah, okay, so take that back.
- 14:46And said, I did TJ's homework for him and he came in at the last moment and provided some great edits.
- 14:51So I thought.
- 14:52Initially I was actually thinking, like, Deborah would be cool from Book of Judges, you know, but then I thought Nehemiah would be interesting just because, you know, he's got the ability to, you know, play politics as the cup
- 15:06bearer, you know, but then also he's got the architecture stuff.
- 15:11Right.
- 15:11He's a builder, but he also can fight while he's building.
- 15:15And I think that's just a cool.
- 15:17Pretty well rounded.
- 15:18Yeah, he's well rounded.
- 15:20Right.
- 15:20He's a good leader.
- 15:21He's got the strategy, he's got the diplomacy, but if he needs to, he can also fight.
- 15:27Yeah.
- 15:28All right, just a couple more here.
- 15:29Speaking of edits.
- 15:30So originally, we hadn't thrown out Milan, and TJ mentioned Merida might be a better pick from Pixar's Brave.
- 15:36So tj, who was Merida?
- 15:38Why Merida?
- 15:39Yeah, because, well, Merida, like you said, is from Brave, which not one of their more popular.
- 15:45And Brave was, like, widely panned when it was released.
- 15:48Whatever.
- 15:48Brave is a good movie.
- 15:50But I said Merida because I think her skill set typically is more applicable than Mulan's.
- 15:58Just in general.
- 15:59Mulan is like a soldier.
- 16:01They have similar skill sets, but Merida is shown to be, you know, genuinely prodigious and also has a much better understanding of kind of the magical world because of her story.
- 16:13Also, I thought there was some really good synergy there with Beorn because her mother turns into a bear.
- 16:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:21I was actually going to Ask you about that here in a minute because.
- 16:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:26She has the ability to regulate the other characters.
- 16:29Yeah.
- 16:29Although I feel like Blastoise and Monroe be like, oh, wow, this human actually can do some cool stuff.
- 16:35Yeah.
- 16:36Freak out.
- 16:37Though I did think about suggesting, like, a bear.
- 16:39Pokemon.
- 16:40Just.
- 16:40Just table of bears.
- 16:42Yeah.
- 16:42No.
- 16:43Table bears.
- 16:43Mother and Nemi.
- 16:45A Care Bear.
- 16:46Yeah, yeah, why not?
- 16:47Oh, man.
- 16:48Yeah.
- 16:48So I actually rewatched Brave today to make sure I had a good understanding of the character.
- 16:52And I, for a long time, wrote Brave off with Tangled, and I've gone back to watch Tangled and affirmed that I just don't like Tangled.
- 16:59One of my bad opinions.
- 17:01I apparently have just not done the same courtesy to Brave.
- 17:04I was wrong about Brave.
- 17:05Brave's a good movie.
- 17:05DJ's right.
- 17:07So paper.
- 17:08I'm on about that today.
- 17:08So that's fun.
- 17:09That's a big moment.
- 17:10Right.
- 17:10All right, next up, we have the Blastoise for your Pokemon or Digimon.
- 17:13You chose Blastoise, Michael.
- 17:15Why.
- 17:16Why we got Blastoise up here?
- 17:17Other than obvious reasons, Big.
- 17:19I mean, it was only the obvious reasons.
- 17:22A giant turtle with cannons.
- 17:24Big man Blastoise.
- 17:26Praise God.
- 17:26Yeah.
- 17:26We need a tank.
- 17:28A ranged tank, no less.
- 17:30Yeah.
- 17:31Okay.
- 17:31Finally, Mothra for your Kaiju.
- 17:34You could have went Godzilla.
- 17:35You could have went like, Kingro.
- 17:36We want Mothra.
- 17:37Why we got Mothra?
- 17:38I'm always down for Mothra.
- 17:39Yeah.
- 17:40I feel like Mothra has been in all of the geeks on a roll that I've been a part of.
- 17:44I affirm this.
- 17:45Yeah.
- 17:45I love any Mothra inclusion I'm here for.
- 17:47Yeah.
- 17:48A big moth that is kind to humans and can actually do a little bit of healing if needed.
- 17:56I panicked a little bit.
- 17:58Minutes before we signed on, I was like, wait, do we have a healer?
- 18:00And then we looked.
- 18:01I was like, no, no, no.
- 18:02Monster actually can heal, which is.
- 18:04Which is also a bonus, so.
- 18:06And air power.
- 18:07Cool.
- 18:08Yeah.
- 18:08Air superiority, it's hard to overcome.
- 18:10Yeah.
- 18:10It's such an unlikely thing, right?
- 18:13A giant moth that can throw down, like, big dinosaur, big gorilla.
- 18:17You're like, that's predictable.
- 18:18But a giant moth.
- 18:19Let's go.
- 18:20Yeah.
- 18:21Absolutely.
- 18:22Absolutely.
- 18:24Love the team choices here.
- 18:25I'll go back to it.
- 18:25TJ already mentioned it.
- 18:27I'm curious.
- 18:28How do you guys see the relationship of Myriada and Beyorn playing out?
- 18:31Because Beyorn's typically not super human friendly.
- 18:33Merida had kind of like a traumatic bear experience, but also, it could be pleasant, depending on how you view that.
- 18:39How do we see those two characters?
- 18:40Interacting, I think they would come to a pretty good understanding with each other.
- 18:45Just because Merida has built that relationship with her bear mother and Beorn.
- 18:52She's this, you know, this tiny little Scottish girl who's very in tune with nature.
- 18:57I think he would appreciate that.
- 19:00Write her off as one of the good ones.
- 19:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:03I think I can affirm that.
- 19:05Yeah, yeah.
- 19:05I.
- 19:06I've got nothing to add to that.
- 19:07I.
- 19:07I think.
- 19:08I think that's the right take.
- 19:10And this may be an opportunity for.
- 19:12For both to grow.
- 19:13You know, Bjorn not just writing everybody off, right?
- 19:16It's like, oh, no, this.
- 19:17This girl's the real deal.
- 19:19So my other question, who would you see as the team leader?
- 19:21Because, like, in my mind, I think beyond Blastoise, Mothra, all kind of play secondary characters usually, but I could see Nehemiah or Merida being like, take charge, being leading point.
- 19:31Who do you.
- 19:31Who do you think you got on this?
- 19:33I think Merida would want to.
- 19:36If it was Ashes, Squirtle or, like, Team Squirtle leader as a Blastoise and he had the glasses, it would be Blastoise, but that's not the case.
- 19:45Yeah, fair enough.
- 19:47Fair enough.
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:48All right.
- 19:48So I mentioned I was going to tell you guys the scoring stuff and everything.
- 19:51So we are going to.
- 19:52We're allowed six rolls, something like that.
- 19:54I can do two.
- 19:55Y' all do four or six.
- 19:56We're going to try and limit the rolls for the game.
- 19:58Seven rolls, y' all can do five.
- 20:00I can do two.
- 20:00Also two coin flips, if need be.
- 20:02That I can use.
- 20:03I'm just going to help the story go along if we're uncertain about what might happen.
- 20:08The points at the end, you're going to be graded on mission status.
- 20:12Did you complete the mission?
- 20:13How well you completed it?
- 20:14Teamwork.
- 20:14How well did the team work together?
- 20:16Sustainability.
- 20:17Is this team sticking together after the fact.
- 20:19Strength.
- 20:20How strong is this team?
- 20:22And then fun.
- 20:23How much fun do we think this team had together?
- 20:26And of course, we also have some bonus points at the end.
- 20:29You'll have both negative and positive bonus points that you could occur depending on your choices in the game.
- 20:3548 is the score to beat.
- 20:38I think you guys can.
- 20:39I think you guys can do it.
- 20:40I really do.
- 20:41I believe in us.
- 20:42I think sustainability is the big one.
- 20:43That I'm like.
- 20:44I'm not sure, but I feel that way every time we play it.
- 20:46That I'm like, these.
- 20:47These people really hanging out.
- 20:48I don't know.
- 20:49We'll see.
- 20:51Are you guys ready to, to move on to the.
- 20:55The game itself.
- 20:56A Mouse Entrapment in Paris is the name of our campaign and I'm.
- 21:01I'm thrilled for this.
- 21:02This is gonna be a lot of fun.
- 21:06So as we have it, just to set the stage, we're not going to do any.
- 21:10How did they get here?
- 21:11Any of that stuff.
- 21:12We'll just.
- 21:12They're here.
- 21:13Okay.
- 21:15Because I didn't think things through super well.
- 21:18I'm gonna have to explain away something real quick.
- 21:21Mothra is just outside of Beerus flying around and for some reason your team has just a deep connection, can understand and communicate without having to explain that.
- 21:31Because I don't feel like explaining it.
- 21:35Yeah, that's what we're gonna do for.
- 21:36That works for me.
- 21:38Cool.
- 21:39So everyone except for Mothra however, is going to suddenly appear in front of a mouse hole.
- 21:46You're all just here in front of the mouse hole.
- 21:49There is two tables beside of it.
- 21:51One is larger, one is smaller.
- 21:53The larger one has what appears to be a shrink ray because it says shrink ray with a headset in a note that says one shot only, please don't be an idiot.
- 22:02And there's also appears to be a really tiny headset and a note you can't read on the other table.
- 22:06That's where we're at, fellas.
- 22:08Take it away.
- 22:09What do we got?
- 22:10Alright, so the question is, will if we shrink Beorn in his human form, will he still be small when he's a bear or does his shape changing ability override that?
- 22:21You guys have no point of reference.
- 22:23Characters just showed up.
- 22:24Yeah.
- 22:25Does this give new meaning to the discussion of miniatures?
- 22:33Miniatures.
- 22:35Sorry.
- 22:36Okay, well, let's assume because there is a size component here that we need to consider.
- 22:43Like Blastoise is quite large, as is Mothra.
- 22:46So let's just assume that the shrinking.
- 22:49Blastoise is around five to six feet.
- 22:52Okay, I did look at this.
- 22:54Okay.
- 22:54Yeah, he's like human ish size.
- 22:56So let's just assume that the shrink ray, like everything will be relative to the spatiality of entering into this mouse hole.
- 23:04Is that a good assumption, gm?
- 23:07Yeah.
- 23:07Yeah.
- 23:07Okay.
- 23:08Okay, cool.
- 23:09So.
- 23:09So the next thing then is this mini note.
- 23:13I, I want, we, I want to know what's on the mini note before we shrink anybody.
- 23:18Because is it the same information or is it a different info?
- 23:21Different.
- 23:22Different note.
- 23:23Super tiny writing.
- 23:24You can't quite read it.
- 23:27Oh, so we have to shrink to read it.
- 23:29Well, I'm trying to see if there's anybody here who just has super good sign you know, I think Nehemiah, being a scribe, might be able to squint.
- 23:37You know, squint.
- 23:37You want to.
- 23:37You want to roll for.
- 23:38For his ability.
- 23:39Meredith does also have really good eyesight.
- 23:42True.
- 23:43It's true.
- 23:43Because of the.
- 23:44Would Nehemiah actually have some sort of, like, architecture, tools, implements, something like a magnifying glass or a telescope or anything like, to that end?
- 23:58No, but so that we don't stick here too long, I'm just going to say that Merida can read it.
- 24:02Okay.
- 24:03Yeah.
- 24:03All the note says is, come inside.
- 24:06We need help.
- 24:07He was framed.
- 24:08Okay, well, I mean, we're not going to have much fun if we don't shrink ourselves, right, T.J.
- 24:13so let's.
- 24:14Let's shrink.
- 24:14Okay?
- 24:15We only get one shot.
- 24:17We can only shrink one person.
- 24:18Do not lose this chance.
- 24:20Was that a 8 mile reference?
- 24:22You only get one shot.
- 24:24Alternatively, it's one opportunity, much worse reference to some play or something.
- 24:33All right, so let's shrink up.
- 24:34So, yeah, the question is, who's first?
- 24:36Yeah, who's going to be the first?
- 24:38I feel like Nehemiah, he's like, you know what?
- 24:41I'll go first.
- 24:41I'm not going to ask anybody.
- 24:43I'm not going to ask anybody to do something that I wouldn't do myself.
- 24:47So who wants to shrink me?
- 24:50Oh, Merida will do it.
- 24:51Yeah.
- 24:52She's like, let's.
- 24:53Let's go.
- 24:54Yeah.
- 24:54What'd you have?
- 24:55Nehemiah is shrunk successfully and the ray is now out of shots.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:02Yep.
- 25:02Oh, so they'll put on.
- 25:04Yeah.
- 25:04One shot only.
- 25:05Yeah.
- 25:05So tiny Nehemiah, but his true gift is not his size or his strength.
- 25:11But the super tiny note had even smaller writing on it that does say, put on the headset.
- 25:16Okay, headset on.
- 25:17Cool.
- 25:18Let's put it on.
- 25:18You might put it on and Merida will put on the other one.
- 25:21Yeah, so those two can hear each other and communicate.
- 25:24That's.
- 25:25That's all.
- 25:25The headset is pretty, pretty simple.
- 25:27All right, so what are we doing from here?
- 25:28Nehemiah going to enter the mouse hole?
- 25:30Well, he didn't get shrunk for nothing.
- 25:32Yeah.
- 25:33All right.
- 25:33Turning back, he enters to find the one and only Basil of Baker Street.
- 25:40Oh, my gosh.
- 25:41Detective Disappeared.
- 25:42Oh, I love this.
- 25:43Back in the day, I had the book and the movie.
- 25:46Let's go.
- 25:47Yeah, yeah, I love it, too.
- 25:49So, Basil Pierce, follow me.
- 25:54I'm told Rick Sanchez stop by, needed your help.
- 25:57So this doesn't go to the Omniverse Court.
- 25:59Something about he had things that he wanted to deal with and didn't want something stupid getting in his way.
- 26:04So Basil leads you on through a tunnel.
- 26:06I assume Nehemiah follows.
- 26:08Does Nehemiah concerned about Basil at all?
- 26:11Talking mouse.
- 26:13Whatever, man.
- 26:14Dressed up as a detective.
- 26:16Yeah, I mean, what's to distrust there?
- 26:19I got no questions.
- 26:21Perfect.
- 26:22So Nehemiah and Basil head into what was Basil's kind of lounge.
- 26:27And of course, you have Dr.
- 26:28Dawson there, and he begins to explain the case.
- 26:32He originally came here because he heard there were rats in Paris who managed to overcome the class situation that they have in London, where many of the rats were of a lower class, became super villains like Ratigan, and
- 26:47even tried to deny their status as rats.
- 26:50So he originally came here to investigate, to see how the rats here were able to have a better life here in Paris.
- 26:57Some rats he heard, were even chefs, but they had to do it secretively.
- 27:01So he came to investigate, found an entire team of rats who were going into a restaurant and pulling people's hairs to let them cook.
- 27:08And one of them is named Remy, who has recently been accused of murder.
- 27:13He's been thrown into a rat pound and all signs.
- 27:19Apparently, everyone's telling him that he was framed.
- 27:22So Basil is on the case to solve how this happened.
- 27:25Rich Sanchez appeared to him alongside a man with a black coat.
- 27:29Because they didn't want this to make it to the TVA course of court for the Omniverse, they wanted this to be solved ahead of time.
- 27:36So, of course, they chose the world's greatest detective, Basil of Baker Street.
- 27:40And he needed help.
- 27:42So that is why you're here, to help Basil solve the case.
- 27:45Basil, now explaining all this, Invite you to go with him to the restaurant.
- 27:50Dawson's gonna stutter.
- 27:52I'm good here.
- 27:52I'm just gonna stay back this time.
- 27:54Merida's gonna tell him to ask if the rest of us are allowed to come.
- 27:59Basil explains there's only one shot for now.
- 28:01But when we're in the restaurant, humans, of course, are more than welcome to just walk in.
- 28:06But going through the rats, he does have to take some alternative means to get there.
- 28:12So they'll base insert smart people words.
- 28:15There's going to be a side adventure for Basil and Nehemiah before they meet up with everybody else at the restaurant, basically.
- 28:20Okay, okay, good to know.
- 28:23I just.
- 28:24Let's, let's, let's advance in that.
- 28:27In that way.
- 28:28And the only thing that I would add is that Nehemiah specializes in cups, so he can bring that that skill set to the restaurant.
- 28:37Should there be anything involving cups, cup bearing, cup sipping, cup holding, passing, throwing, toasting.
- 28:48Me.
- 28:49And I got this locked down.
- 28:51Perfect.
- 28:52So Nehemiah and Basil go through the holes and are brought into underground place.
- 29:01Man.
- 29:01My brain is just struggling with words.
- 29:02Day guys.
- 29:03Where many other very clearly Pixar animated rats appear.
- 29:08And they're all talking about what happened.
- 29:10They're chatting back and forth.
- 29:11And you hear them discussing some about a man in a black coat appearing to them as well.
- 29:17Most of them seem to be the belief that there's no way Remy did this.
- 29:20Did you see the fur?
- 29:21It wasn't even animated.
- 29:22The same.
- 29:24So the man in the black coat, who was he?
- 29:26Are you asking me or you ask?
- 29:27Is it Johnny Cash who's asking what as a rat or a mouse?
- 29:32Johnny Cash.
- 29:33Unsure.
- 29:33Johnny Cash ratio.
- 29:36I will say there is a certain amount of hints or clues to the case that you can find that I want to.
- 29:42I'm going to be checking off.
- 29:43If you find them throughout.
- 29:45Neuma is going to ask if anyone recognized the man in the black coat.
- 29:49His face was hidden.
- 29:50He seemed to be approximately six feet.
- 29:52Some of them were talking about stuff.
- 29:54Of course.
- 29:55The one rat.
- 29:56He didn't have any food and tell you that.
- 29:59And the stuff he gave us just is not edible at all.
- 30:03What did he give you?
- 30:04Ah.
- 30:04So they bring you to what was brought to them.
- 30:08I can't wait for this.
- 30:08This is just a fun little side thing for me.
- 30:11But.
- 30:11So the first brings you to three different items that the man in the cloak brought to the rats.
- 30:16First up was Blastoise tonight.
- 30:20There we go.
- 30:21We got Blastoise tonight.
- 30:23You can unlock Mega Blastoise this game should you choose.
- 30:29Yeah.
- 30:30Okay.
- 30:31Yeah.
- 30:31The other two items we have the Epirus Bow from the Immortals film.
- 30:36I think it's 2011.
- 30:38Something like that.
- 30:38It is a bow designed to kill men and gods.
- 30:41You also have a small disc with Pym particles.
- 30:45I'm not sure if anyone here has any reference for what it is.
- 30:48But there is one disc.
- 30:51Yeah.
- 30:52So increase.
- 30:52Decrease size.
- 30:53Yeah.
- 30:54There's only one disc.
- 30:55Only one disc.
- 30:56But we don't know what it does.
- 30:58None of your characters would recognize.
- 31:00It is the one that increases.
- 31:02But I don't think your characters would recognize that.
- 31:04Right.
- 31:04You just know that some man in a cloak gave it to the rats and said that these things would be useful.
- 31:08Right.
- 31:09Last always Tonight.
- 31:10The Epirus Bow and Pym Bartacles.
- 31:12And do we get.
- 31:13Can we have all of these or do we just get to pick one.
- 31:16Oh, you have all three.
- 31:17They were.
- 31:17They were left with the rats.
- 31:18The rats don't know why the man in the cloak left it.
- 31:21Right.
- 31:21But if he chose you to go on this adventure, obviously you guys should have it.
- 31:25Wow.
- 31:25That you're so generous.
- 31:27I feel like all the other.
- 31:28They're like, we can't learn from you, Josh.
- 31:31This, like takes so long to get magical items.
- 31:34Yeah, this is.
- 33:04This is awesome.
- 33:05I'm having so much fun here.
- 31:38Okay, sweet.
- 33:08We'll take for later.
- 33:09Yeah.
- 33:10I want to learn more about this hair, though.
- 33:11You said the hair wasn't even animated the same.
- 33:14So.
- 33:14So that's.
- 33:15That sounds like a clue to me.
- 33:16You heard some of the rats talking about it.
- 33:18Did you want to go back in and ask them?
- 33:20Yeah.
- 33:20So we got these cool items.
- 33:22Yeah.
- 33:22Let's go back and do a little detective work.
- 33:25All right.
- 33:26So the rats who were talking about it, you go up to them, they're like, yeah, you see like Pixar here.
- 33:33It's like animated strand by strand.
- 33:34Like, we are very clearly detailed animation.
- 33:38A work of a modern art.
- 33:41Incredible.
- 33:42This, however, is just flat.
- 33:43It was just a flat black piece that.
- 33:45I mean, we smell it.
- 33:47We know that that's mouse fur, but like, it's not even from our unit.
- 33:51Like, there's no way this is from a Pixar universe.
- 33:53They're very self aware rats, of course.
- 33:56Yeah, yeah.
- 33:57Why would they be?
- 33:58Nehemiah, who is unfamiliar with animation as a medium and speaking animals as a whole,.
- 34:05Praise God.
- 34:06I think he would compare the fur to the other point of reference that he has for a talking rodent, which is Basil.
- 34:13It's much closer to that.
- 34:16Different color, but it's a lot closer to Basil's animated style.
- 34:20Okay, and how did Ratatouille Remy under Remy get framed?
- 34:25Ah, the health inspector was who was killed and it's because he was going to shut down the restaurant having found out that rats were in the restaurant.
- 34:36And the way he found out was from this mouse fur.
- 34:39Well, not even rats.
- 34:41But he found that he was going to shut down the restaurant for, you know, rodents being a problem.
- 34:46And Remy was freaking out trying to figure out what to do.
- 34:48And next thing everybody knew, health inspector was dead.
- 34:52Seemed pretty clearly the rat freaking out about it.
- 34:54Did it?
- 34:54There was what they're claiming was rat fur on the scene that all the rats here seem to be like, there's just no way that was any of us.
- 35:01Also seems pretty clear to you guys that there's just no way this is the same for her.
- 35:04They seem like good natured rats.
- 35:06I mean, it's early days to point the finger at anybody.
- 35:08But, you know, given my deep, deep knowledge of great mouse detective lore, prime suspect at this point, and I'm just going to, like, overlay my great mouse detective lore knowledge on to Nehemiah here.
- 35:23Be like, ratigan is prime suspect up in here.
- 35:26Well, you can always say Basil.
- 35:27Basil was like.
- 35:28The only problem is that Ratigan is a rat.
- 35:31And the rats did say this smells more like mouse fur.
- 35:33Interesting.
- 35:34So our suspects are a mouse, a 2D animal.
- 35:36Maybe it is a mouse.
- 35:37Yes.
- 35:39So either this mouse is framed or Ratigan put out a hit.
- 35:44Which is smart, because if you're, you know, the kingpin, you don't actually perform the hits.
- 35:50You assign them so you don't get in trouble.
- 35:53Okay.
- 35:54Are there any other clues that we should be aware of?
- 35:57Any other discrepancies?
- 35:58Basil thinks we're onto a great place to start.
- 36:00Let's go to where the mouse fur was found at the restaurant.
- 36:04Yeah.
- 36:05All right, Let me stuff.
- 36:08All right.
- 36:09Who can hear this is gonna go at this point.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:12All the characters.
- 36:13Yeah, the big characters are gonna walk through the dining room.
- 36:18Not Remy, Basil and Nehemiah are gonna go through the kitchen.
- 36:23And of course, you do find out that the health inspector has been replaced.
- 36:27Also from someone that doesn't appear to be in this universe.
- 36:29It's none other than the health inspector from Bob's Burger, who was currently at the restaurant doing his own kind of investigation, trying to shut the place down again.
- 36:39So that's what they are walking into in the dining room.
- 36:42Merida.
- 36:42Let's see.
- 36:43Merida, Blastoise and Beorn.
- 36:45Meanwhile, Basil and tiny Nehemiah are walking into the kitchen where all the chefs are still.
- 36:52Some of them are being controlled by rats, and some of them are not.
- 36:55And you can pretty much tell from their frantic moving who is and is not.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:58All right.
- 36:59All right.
- 37:01So Merida, Bayorn and Blastoise are in the restaurant.
- 37:05Do they sit down?
- 37:06They have a seat?
- 37:07Sure.
- 37:07They'll sit near the health inspector, try and listen.
- 37:10Yeah, they're just investigating in general.
- 37:13Yeah.
- 37:13Would you like to like to use a roll to see what they are able to see?
- 37:17Sure.
- 37:17I don't have my dice because.
- 37:19Yeah, I don't have mine either.
- 37:21Not just on the desk.
- 37:22I had it in my hand and dropped it.
- 37:26Yeah.
- 37:27I only have one within arm's reach and six sided.
- 37:31I got it.
- 37:3220 sided dice.
- 37:34And no matter what you're Gonna observe something, but we'll see how much you observe.
- 37:38So am I doing a roll for Merida Beorn or who?
- 37:41Both.
- 37:41We do one for each.
- 37:43No, that's too many.
- 37:45Yeah, Merida can find it.
- 37:46Sure.
- 37:47Oh, an eight.
- 37:49But she pretty perceptive, so, you know, I'll give her a nat 10 or so, bump her up to, like, an 18.
- 37:55So she's going to.
- 37:56She's going to notice.
- 37:57A lot of the guests at this restaurant appear to be the same tanned, bald man, like, identically the same.
- 38:05Some of the other people in the restaurant who are eating keep complaining about chest pains, holding their chest.
- 38:10And health inspector seems to be particularly interested in them.
- 38:14Yeah.
- 38:14So those are the two things you see.
- 38:16You could have seen more, but an 8 still is not, you know, not ideal.
- 38:20So, I don't know, just a restaurant full of people going into cardiac arrest.
- 38:25Wow.
- 38:26They appear to be like, they're holding their chest, talking about pains, but then it subsides and they'll go back to eating.
- 38:31It seems to be something.
- 38:32So it's more like I'm weird.
- 38:33Acute heartburn.
- 38:34Okay.
- 38:35Something.
- 38:36All right, well, I think, actually.
- 38:40Okay, no, I'm gonna wait till later.
- 38:41Continue.
- 38:41Okay.
- 38:43So I think Merida notices this and is like, I think I should check in with Nehemiah and let him know, like, hey, this is happening.
- 38:50You should factor this in.
- 38:52And Nehemiah's like, you know what?
- 38:54Let's just grab the bull by the horns here and just approach the health inspector and ask him what's going on?
- 39:02Can we do that?
- 39:02Can he try to approach the health inspector with Basil?
- 39:04Or the rest of them going to go up to the health inspector.
- 39:07I feel like.
- 39:08I feel like Basil.
- 39:09Nehemiah.
- 39:10Like, I think they're going to leave, you know?
- 39:12Yeah, I think so.
- 39:14Because I feel like just Nehemiah.
- 39:16Yeah, Because Basil.
- 39:17Right.
- 39:17Yes.
- 39:18Good show.
- 39:19That's.
- 39:19That's a good point.
- 39:20Yes.
- 39:20Just Nehemiah.
- 39:21Yeah.
- 39:21And.
- 39:22But he was excited for that.
- 39:23Yeah.
- 39:23Oh, yeah, sorry.
- 39:26This is why.
- 39:27This is why we work in teams.
- 39:29Right, tj?
- 39:30Josh.
- 39:31Yeah.
- 39:31So I think, yeah, Nehemiah's like, okay, cool, I'll get this.
- 39:34But I will mention that I am working with a detective.
- 39:37I'll just leave out the detail that it is a mouse.
- 39:41The great mouse.
- 39:43The great mouse.
- 39:44I'm working with a great detective.
- 39:45He'll just leave out the mouse part.
- 39:47Yeah, yeah.
- 39:48All right.
- 39:49I dig it.
- 39:50However, we got a lot more of the story to go through, so we are going to pause here.
- 39:55Wrap up the episode and do it as a part two for the rest of the story.
- 40:03Story.
- 40:03So guys, this hanger.
- 40:05Yeah, yeah, a little bit of cliffhanger.
- 40:06They're about to talk to the health inspector but before they do, we're going to wrap up and start a part two.
- 40:13Wrapping up though, going to let everybody know at the end we will do a bonus question asking them who they would have chose instead if they known the story.
