- 0:16Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast fag No Austin at the moment,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Thursday morning, maybe over sleeping.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We're not sure, Dak. You have some news to break
- 0:32Speaker 2: this morning.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Me, oh yeah, Dan Marriola is leaving according to two
- 0:39Speaker 3: seven four Sports, and that is that is a homota true.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Like I looked at the count and everything. It is fact.
- 0:47Speaker 3: There is no way he's staying.
- 0:51Speaker 1: No way that Dylan is staying.
- 0:53Speaker 3: No like like that account is everything that counts tweets
- 0:57Speaker 3: is true. Like he's gone.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Why, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I fell for a first second. It's a parody account.
- 1:03Speaker 3: He's not leaving. Oh I never fallow for those.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Well why why would he leave?
- 1:13Speaker 3: Well, here's here's the other news that we'll just we'll
- 1:17Speaker 3: just mention it real quick and then we can move on.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Dateon Riola. D he committed for Nebraska, which if no
- 1:23Speaker 3: one knows is listening to this, I don't know how
- 1:24Speaker 3: you don't know. But he's the son of Dylan Riola
- 1:27Speaker 3: or not the son, the brother, the brother. Hello, Austin, Hello, Dak.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Dak just broke broke the news that Dylan Royola is
- 1:41Speaker 1: has a kid by the name of.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Dayton, who's also eighteen years old.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's the big news. I think that
- 1:52Speaker 1: came out yesterday. Obviously Penn State is coming up here
- 1:58Speaker 1: in a couple of days. There's gonna be a lot
- 2:01Speaker 1: of chatter around what the Dayton Ryola de commit from
- 2:07Speaker 1: the HUSCAR program means. I've heard like five different things
- 2:12Speaker 1: that it could mean at and no one's good. No
- 2:13Speaker 1: one's really gonna know until maybe ever, but until something
- 2:17Speaker 1: actually happens. But that's gonna be what gets talked about
- 2:21Speaker 1: a lot. So I'm curious what you guys are thinking
- 2:26Speaker 1: or read into it. If it means anything, might not
- 2:31Speaker 1: mean anything, but if I mean something, because Matt Ruhle
- 2:35Speaker 1: did visit him like five days.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Ago during the bye week and then.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Announced his de commitment yesterday on Wednesday.
- 2:50Speaker 5: I'm trying not to read into it too much, but
- 2:54Speaker 5: it's definitely worth watching. But I do find interesting in that,
- 3:00Speaker 5: you know, within a couple of days we had basically
- 3:02Speaker 5: two people of our tiny old twenty twenty sixth class decommit.
- 3:07Speaker 5: So I feel like stare being told something. I don't
- 3:09Speaker 5: think it's something that I don't think someone's reaching out
- 3:13Speaker 5: to them. They're like I don't want to go to
- 3:14Speaker 5: nebrask anymore. I feel like Nebraska is telling them like, hey,
- 3:21Speaker 5: I will say gut. Reaction is like, well, you have
- 3:27Speaker 5: their uncle and the brother, and you know you're kind
- 3:35Speaker 5: of you've kind of been all in on the Rayola family.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I don't know. It's weird.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I don't. I've been thinking about it, and then I've
- 3:47Speaker 3: gone back and forth. Does a meme why Dylan's gone
- 3:50Speaker 3: or not? I don't. I got reactionalities. I don't think
- 3:54Speaker 3: it means Dylan's leaving. I think it well, first off,
- 4:03Speaker 3: I watched I watched Daton in the high school game.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Well it was just a couple months ago, and I
- 4:06Speaker 3: was not that impressive then, Like he's a cannon for
- 4:09Speaker 3: an arm. That was about it. He wasn't. He wasn't
- 4:10Speaker 3: that impressive to me.
- 4:13Speaker 1: That sounds familiar.
- 4:16Speaker 3: What a Candon canon of an.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Arm sounds like his brother or his dad.
- 4:23Speaker 1: If you would say, oh.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I don't. I think it just means that
- 4:29Speaker 3: he sees Tray Taylor coming to and I think he's like, yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 3: I I kind of want to. I didn't even know
- 4:36Speaker 3: to like a smaller school. That that's what it means
- 4:38Speaker 3: and start from there and then blow his way up.
- 4:43Speaker 5: According there's a Reddit post that Dylan Retald that he
- 4:47Speaker 5: has changed his profile pictures are no longer include a Husker.
- 4:51Speaker 5: It just says d R and he has now fallowing
- 4:54Speaker 5: a bunch of organ players.
- 4:56Speaker 3: So that's good, though, boys, it's it's a it's a
- 5:01Speaker 3: Chiefs team.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Oh that's not good, Dak.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Twelve times, I'm all on the thief train.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Now that's probably you.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So I will say, like you guys said the obvious
- 5:20Speaker 1: implication of what that could mean. I also heard someone
- 5:25Speaker 1: react to it by thinking, if, like you said, Austin,
- 5:30Speaker 1: they're still all in on the Ryola family. And and
- 5:33Speaker 1: Dylan is that something saying that Matt Rule is still
- 5:40Speaker 1: potentially leaving and Dayton wanted to de commit so that
- 5:45Speaker 1: if Rule does leave and take another job that he's
- 5:49Speaker 1: able to then right away go wherever that Rule goes.
- 5:55Speaker 1: That's interesting. You know, obviously we lo we we are
- 5:59Speaker 1: saying we locked up with the contract extension, that we
- 6:01Speaker 1: obviously are not locking him up for good. People can
- 6:05Speaker 1: still pay the buyout and they can still hire Matt
- 6:08Speaker 1: Rule as a head coach.
- 6:09Speaker 2: The contract just makes it harder to do that.
- 6:11Speaker 1: But that's that's that to me. I don't think is
- 6:15Speaker 1: I don't think is the reason you mentioned that the
- 6:18Speaker 1: next the next level of the of the day of
- 6:21Speaker 1: the Dylan.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Implications and so have you have you eld anybody say that.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I don't think it's the mad Rule thing, because I
- 6:27Speaker 5: even if you sawthing, I understand, Yes, they could still
- 6:29Speaker 5: do that buy out. But if you come, if you
- 6:31Speaker 5: sign the extention, you come like this is home, this
- 6:33Speaker 5: is where I want to be. You know, like you
- 6:36Speaker 5: can't do that and then immediately bounce without just.
- 6:41Speaker 4: The amount of hate that you would get.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And it is funny to see like people still trying
- 6:46Speaker 1: to write that narrative, which maybe can still be true.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Can't rule anything out, but no pun intended. He he
- 6:57Speaker 1: did apparently or not he? There's a flight tracker is
- 7:00Speaker 1: again from State College to Lincoln, and I saw a
- 7:02Speaker 1: couple of them. I don't know whether they're true or
- 7:04Speaker 1: whatever like that that is there, but I think the
- 7:09Speaker 1: most likely thing that you can assume is that Nebraska
- 7:16Speaker 1: maybe isn't moving on from the Royola family completely yet,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but that they are. They said something told something that
- 7:25Speaker 1: no like this this is open, like every every day
- 7:28Speaker 1: is a competition. You're not guaranteed anything here, including an
- 7:32Speaker 1: offensive line position or often like coaching position, and that
- 7:40Speaker 1: that just could have been enough to piss off the
- 7:41Speaker 1: Roola family. Add to that also kind of alluded to
- 7:48Speaker 1: it that maybe the Royols are just pissed off how
- 7:52Speaker 1: Nebraska is reacting to TJ and and don't like that
- 7:57Speaker 1: everybody's saying it should be TJ's job, and and as
- 8:01Speaker 1: not as not an uncommon take. Now, after what he
- 8:03Speaker 1: did against UCLA, now he has to go prove and
- 8:07Speaker 1: do it more, I think for it to solidify in
- 8:11Speaker 1: a lot of people's brains. But he he did do
- 8:16Speaker 1: enough to where people are when it was already in
- 8:18Speaker 1: people's minds to say this guy, we want this guy
- 8:21Speaker 1: to be our quarterback in the future. I mean, is
- 8:26Speaker 1: there in my mind too, But I gotta see it
- 8:28Speaker 1: a little more. We saw him against a Division III
- 8:33Speaker 1: school and two of them, and then you know at
- 8:36Speaker 1: UCLA team who's solid, right, But I'd like to see
- 8:39Speaker 1: it a little more before completely moving on from Dylan.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Here's what Here's what Dylan brings that's proven right now,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I think that TJ hasn't Why I can't jump all
- 8:51Speaker 1: the way there yet. It's two things. One ball security
- 8:58Speaker 1: and yes he's thrown a couple of really bad interceptions,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but I think he's proven that he's not Jeff Simms. Now,
- 9:09Speaker 1: Jeff Sims is doing well. But those type of quarterbacks, right,
- 9:12Speaker 1: you feel, you feel okay when he's got the ball in,
- 9:15Speaker 1: you know, in the pocket. And then two believe it
- 9:19Speaker 1: or not, he's.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Call it the clutch gene or the performing in big moments.
- 9:25Speaker 2: He's done that now.
- 9:28Speaker 1: A few different times this year a second season's quarterbacks.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So like, those are the two things that Dylan's done
- 9:33Speaker 1: that you can say, No, he's able to do that. TJ.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We don't know yet. You know, he hasn't had that
- 9:37Speaker 1: opportunity yet. He's a true freshman. It's unknown, but we
- 9:43Speaker 1: do know he can run a lot better than Dylan.
- 9:45Speaker 1: That's that's also a true fact.
- 9:47Speaker 5: So uh yeah, that reaction right now, forget what's the word,
- 9:54Speaker 5: I don't know. I'm gonna say eighty chance that Dylan
- 9:59Speaker 5: is our starting quarterback game one come the twenty twenty eighties.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Okay, wow, exactly where what would you say? Right now?
- 10:15Speaker 3: Sixty forty Dylan is the starting quarterback next year. I
- 10:23Speaker 3: I mean it all comes down these last two games.
- 10:25Speaker 3: If if Latif goes out and wins these next two
- 10:27Speaker 3: games and he looks good, I won't even see great
- 10:32Speaker 3: If if he looks good, I think he's the start
- 10:35Speaker 3: next year and Dylan's gone like.
- 10:37Speaker 4: He's don't have to look great. He can just look
- 10:40Speaker 4: good and take over the starting position next year.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I actually I agree with that. Why because these two
- 10:48Speaker 1: teams are very two are tougher teams. And if he
- 10:51Speaker 1: looks good enough, which good is good enough because I'm
- 10:56Speaker 1: just because he's has the ability to run, Nebraska fans
- 11:00Speaker 1: and the coaches are going to go wow, like we
- 11:02Speaker 1: need this kind of quarterback to win games.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I I I do think that he isn't is he
- 11:09Speaker 2: does not have to go out and put up crazy numbers.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I think if he goes out, if he goes out
- 11:14Speaker 1: as a starter and Winsy's two games, it's a big
- 11:16Speaker 1: ifs A that's a big if.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the thing. I don't think he's gonna go
- 11:20Speaker 4: out win these next two games.
- 11:21Speaker 2: But if he does go in Windy's two games, he
- 11:23Speaker 2: will depth.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think that's sixty forty for me, which I'm I'm
- 11:27Speaker 1: kind of where dacks at just given all the unknowns
- 11:30Speaker 1: and who knows. I that sixty forty turns into seventy
- 11:32Speaker 1: thirty the other way, if he goes out and.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Winsley's two games, now I think I think he's ninety ten.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I that's a big ift. It's a big ifs it
- 11:40Speaker 1: could happen, but it's it's not if he doesn't. At
- 11:45Speaker 1: the very least, Well, here's the other side of it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: We lose these two games by ten, plus he has
- 11:52Speaker 1: a couple of turnovers, which also is very easily could happen.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Then on that and the things, it's very clear that
- 12:02Speaker 1: we probably want Dylan back as our starter because TJ
- 12:06Speaker 1: is just not ready yet. So that that also is
- 12:09Speaker 1: the other side of it that could happen. I don't
- 12:12Speaker 1: you call it the negative side. That's that's probably just
- 12:14Speaker 1: as likely to happen as us going on winning these
- 12:16Speaker 1: two games.
- 12:17Speaker 4: So like we'll see.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I I think that that's at the very least there
- 12:22Speaker 1: will be at least discussion around a quarterback competition going
- 12:26Speaker 1: into next year. And and to me that that is
- 12:30Speaker 1: where I think that's probably what the message was like
- 12:32Speaker 1: if if there was if it was asked, it might
- 12:34Speaker 1: not had to be talked about, but if it was
- 12:36Speaker 1: asked of Dylan or the Royola family, like is this
- 12:40Speaker 1: still my job? And they go, well, we'll have to
- 12:42Speaker 1: reevalue want to wait and see you're in you know,
- 12:45Speaker 1: see how these games go. Which, as a coach, that's
- 12:47Speaker 1: the right answer, right, you're not gonna.
- 12:50Speaker 5: I don't think we need to be beholden to Dylan.
- 12:52Speaker 5: If don't get me wrong, If Tej comes out and
- 12:54Speaker 5: he looks like pretty freaking good and we win the
- 12:58Speaker 5: next two games and we win the bowl game, he
- 13:00Speaker 5: was like, Okay, I'm fine having the conversation. I just
- 13:04Speaker 5: don't know if one UCLA game where he threw it
- 13:06Speaker 5: twelve times is enough to be like, hey, Dylan, better
- 13:09Speaker 5: start looking elsewhere, Dayton. Don't bother coming here, Hey Donnie,
- 13:13Speaker 5: just so you know you're you're not giving And.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't I don't that that those conversations definitely didn't happen. Yeah,
- 13:20Speaker 1: they definitely didn't, but I'm guessing did not. I think
- 13:25Speaker 1: the most plausible reason for the Dayton Rayola the commit
- 13:33Speaker 1: He's only he's either he's a three star, Okay, he's not.
- 13:36Speaker 1: He's not Dylan Doc you mentioned he probably he probably
- 13:42Speaker 1: could go start at a mid major potentially or at
- 13:47Speaker 1: least be in the running for that somewhere. You know
- 13:49Speaker 1: he's not going to here.
- 13:51Speaker 3: And on top of the well he'd be a starter
- 13:53Speaker 3: right away.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I mean maybe, I don't know, Like you're.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Your your quarterback room here in Nebraska is very crowded
- 14:05Speaker 2: and we have some.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Other quarterback commits, correct.
- 14:07Speaker 1: So that that to me, that's the most plausible is
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, what if you're dating Rayola and you know
- 14:11Speaker 1: you're you're not You're not guaranteed a starting spot anywhere.
- 14:16Speaker 1: And if if we have the ability potentially to keep
- 14:19Speaker 1: TJ around next year from a financial standpoint and and
- 14:24Speaker 1: have that we feel good about that. And then you
- 14:27Speaker 1: bring in Trey Taylor in twenty twenty seven, who it
- 14:31Speaker 1: just I'll say it. He's been the most I don't
- 14:35Speaker 1: know Todden recruit that we've ever gotten from like this
- 14:38Speaker 1: early on, he feels like he's a hard, hard commit
- 14:44Speaker 1: and we everybody's loving it. Like you have that locked
- 14:48Speaker 1: in for twenty seven. You're probably looking at that and
- 14:49Speaker 1: you go, well, what, what what is my playing time
- 14:52Speaker 1: gonna look like? In Nebraska?
- 14:54Speaker 3: It might not be.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Promising, so I've reopened my Russians and commitment that that
- 15:02Speaker 1: to me, probably the most likely answer. But you can
- 15:03Speaker 1: obviously read into it a billion different ways.
- 15:06Speaker 4: So this guy's not falling yet, Guys.
- 15:12Speaker 1: See Austin's view. Austin's viewing it as as Royola is leaving,
- 15:17Speaker 1: as the sky is falling. I don't view that as
- 15:20Speaker 1: this guy's falling, and I don't think it's a good thing.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's good, but I don't view that
- 15:27Speaker 1: as this sky's falling because I think we have other options.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I do think we can build around t J Latieth
- 15:32Speaker 1: and Dylan's leaving and TJ's well hopefully staying. If they
- 15:36Speaker 1: both leave, then the sky's falling.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Then then yeah, I don't view this Skuy's falling either.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think it's the worst thing
- 15:46Speaker 3: in the world that Dylan leaves. I mean, how many
- 15:50Speaker 3: times are we gonna hear you that he loses weight, Like, dude,
- 15:53Speaker 3: actually go out there and lose some weight.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Well, yeah, it's because you're hanging out hunter.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Well, Well it's true though, Like, Okay, I guess there's
- 16:03Speaker 3: only this year coming in. Oh, I lost twenty however
- 16:06Speaker 3: many pounds he said he lost.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I can run.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I can run a lot better view there's gonna be
- 16:09Speaker 3: design runs and everything. We didn't see that.
- 16:11Speaker 4: At all like we did. We saw a few. We
- 16:13Speaker 4: saw one at three game of every game.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And I'll say this, I still think Dylan Royola is
- 16:19Speaker 1: a Heisman level quarterback we did online Georgia, at Alabama,
- 16:25Speaker 1: at Oregon. I think he is.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I think he's a.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Front runner to win the Heisman if he decides to
- 16:31Speaker 1: go any of those places. And maybe someone's in his
- 16:34Speaker 1: ear talking to him about that too.
- 16:35Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I just don't know that that's not.
- 16:41Speaker 4: We are.
- 16:41Speaker 1: We at Nebraska are not maximizing his potential because of
- 16:45Speaker 1: our players around him, because we don't have them yet
- 16:49Speaker 1: or maybe ever, hopefully sometime we do. But we don't
- 16:52Speaker 1: have them. So that that, to me, is is why
- 16:57Speaker 1: I don't think the world's ending if he does decide
- 17:02Speaker 1: to open up and look somewhere else. And I also
- 17:07Speaker 1: think the other big piece that you gotta remember is
- 17:09Speaker 1: Dylan's what do you want to call it, his reputation
- 17:14Speaker 1: or his ability to draw in other people to Nebraska. Now,
- 17:21Speaker 1: the second that he starts questioning Nebraska and isn't all
- 17:26Speaker 1: in on us.
- 17:28Speaker 2: That falls out the window completely, and then and then
- 17:31Speaker 2: you're just holding.
- 17:32Speaker 3: On to thin the night.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So like, if Dylan is half in to Nebraska after
- 17:39Speaker 1: I mean, let's just play it out where Trey Taylor
- 17:42Speaker 1: wins one of the last Trey Taylor, t J latif
- 17:45Speaker 1: wins one of the last two games and looks okay,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and there's probably a quarterback discussion going into next year.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And Dylan is now half in.
- 17:55Speaker 1: That's that that's not I don't I don't think that's
- 17:57Speaker 1: healthy for the program if he's half in to Nebraska
- 18:00Speaker 1: and saying, well, you guys want me or not. And
- 18:03Speaker 1: I'm not saying he would be, but he could, and
- 18:07Speaker 1: then you're not getting that benefit of him going out
- 18:10Speaker 1: and recruiting, like it's no longer quote unquote his team
- 18:13Speaker 1: because there's.
- 18:13Speaker 2: A quarterback competition.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I think Dylan's Dylan's I'm not gonna call him selfish,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but he's very much.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Wants to be the guy. He wants to be the guy,
- 18:26Speaker 2: and if he's not the guy, he's going to handle
- 18:30Speaker 2: the situation very differently, so.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Which I imagine TJ also wants to be the guy.
- 18:39Speaker 4: A quarterbacks out there are like, yeah, I'm good right
- 18:42Speaker 4: on the bench.
- 18:43Speaker 1: He I should when I say the guy, Dylan wants
- 18:46Speaker 1: to be known like. He wants to have the assurance
- 18:48Speaker 1: that he's the guy. He doesn't want to be in
- 18:50Speaker 1: a battle, so he Dylan's not gonna I don't think
- 18:54Speaker 1: Dylan has the mindset of put me in a battle.
- 18:56Speaker 1: This is healthy competition, this is good for me, help
- 19:00Speaker 1: me get better. I think Dylan wants. Dylan wants to Nope,
- 19:03Speaker 1: this is my team, this is my he wants to
- 19:06Speaker 1: know that TJ. On the other I don't think he
- 19:08Speaker 1: needs to know that TJ's okay saying I'm be it.
- 19:11Speaker 1: He wants to be the starting quarterback. But he he's
- 19:13Speaker 1: okay saying okay, I'll be in a battle like that.
- 19:16Speaker 1: That's what I mean by the guy Dylan.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I think Dylan wants the assurance that he's a starting
- 19:19Speaker 2: quarterback for him, for him to be.
- 19:22Speaker 1: All in with the program.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And you know, I'm not saying that's wrong. He has
- 19:26Speaker 2: the talent to do that. He has the talent to
- 19:29Speaker 2: own that.
- 19:30Speaker 1: It's a matter of if we are going to do
- 19:34Speaker 1: that with Nebraska and the point to me, is I
- 19:36Speaker 1: don't think it's I don't. I don't think we should
- 19:38Speaker 1: or shouldn't.
- 19:40Speaker 4: I don't.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think it's that big of a
- 19:41Speaker 1: deal if we don't go down that path because we
- 19:44Speaker 1: have a potential other option.
- 19:49Speaker 2: We don't.
- 19:49Speaker 1: But we'll see. There's still two games.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Left, so yeah again, man, I just we'll see. Oh yeah,
- 19:57Speaker 4: you're right, we'll see, I.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Will say, Austin. I mean, it's pretty impressive. Like from
- 20:02Speaker 1: all the other Husker podcasts I listen to, you are
- 20:05Speaker 1: on Lockdown to Dylan more than anybody else's.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I'm not like, it's not even that.
- 20:10Speaker 5: I'm just people are like, hey, man, Latif's got it
- 20:13Speaker 5: and it's like he threw it twelve times against UCLA
- 20:16Speaker 5: and like he had one pass that was like longer
- 20:19Speaker 5: than twenty yards.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Like I don't know if I'm ready to I think
- 20:22Speaker 4: one of the worst running defenses in the country. I'm
- 20:24Speaker 4: not ready to anoint him as like the second coming of.
- 20:28Speaker 1: You know, and I think those people, I mean myself included,
- 20:34Speaker 1: I hope he does throw it for twelve times a.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Game, Like I hope that's how we can play.
- 20:40Speaker 5: And that that becomes an interesting thing is if we
- 20:42Speaker 5: win the next games, you know, fifteen to fourteen and
- 20:47Speaker 5: seventeen to ten, and he has twelve passes, he complete
- 20:50Speaker 5: at nine and he's got forty you know, rushing yards
- 20:55Speaker 5: on the ground on five attempts, but we win, then
- 20:59Speaker 5: you're in an interesting spot because like, well we won
- 21:01Speaker 5: two games with.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Team a quarterback.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But that right, the worst spot.
- 21:04Speaker 2: You're right, that's a very very interesting spot there.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I think that's the worst case scenario right there, worst
- 21:10Speaker 3: in your Yeah, that's not worst case two games, that's
- 21:15Speaker 3: worst case in the next year.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Yeah, you're right, because it's like, well, he's turned forty
- 21:21Speaker 5: five times and he's completed thirty seven and he's rushed
- 21:24Speaker 5: for under one hundred yards total, and.
- 21:28Speaker 4: But we won three games.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not saying it's the worst case for this year.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Going in the next year, quarterback lies, I think. But yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 3: that's that's where it makes it really tough. What do
- 21:39Speaker 3: you doing? And then again, some some team comes in,
- 21:45Speaker 3: We'll say, yeah, we'll just start out there. I said,
- 21:48Speaker 3: Iowa comes in, gives dealing money or whatever.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Just the worst example ever.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Well, okay, any team comes in, it gives them money.
- 21:58Speaker 3: If there's any foot quarterback competation. Like you said he's gone, I.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Wouldn't say he's gone.
- 22:05Speaker 4: I don't won't say he's gone either. I think he's
- 22:08Speaker 4: pretty invested in the brand.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I think I think his I think his mentality changes
- 22:12Speaker 1: a lot. That happens, But I wouldn't say he's gone automatically.
- 22:16Speaker 5: When we switch if, like you know, if we switch
- 22:18Speaker 5: over tiring of Penn State here, you'll understand why I'm not.
- 22:22Speaker 4: You know why I don't think it's gonna be as
- 22:23Speaker 4: big of a deal.
- 22:24Speaker 2: The lastly, just keeping this in mind all this conversation,
- 22:28Speaker 2: money's also a factor, a big, big, big f sure,
- 22:31Speaker 2: And will this program make the decision to try to
- 22:37Speaker 2: pay two quarterbacks next year?
- 22:39Speaker 1: That's gonna be tough to swallow. And you know, maybe
- 22:44Speaker 1: you don't have to pay TJ. You might not have
- 22:46Speaker 1: to ask. But given what we've seen, you would you
- 22:51Speaker 1: think that that might be the top topic of conversation.
- 22:54Speaker 4: So I wish we could see how much players were making.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I wish that.
- 22:57Speaker 5: I know they can come out with estimates and stuff,
- 22:59Speaker 5: but I wish we actually had because like you can
- 23:01Speaker 5: go on spow Track and see like an entire NBA
- 23:04Speaker 5: team salary cap and the contracts. It does bother me
- 23:07Speaker 5: that it's like, well, I don't know how much money
- 23:09Speaker 5: we have. I don't know how much money you're spending.
- 23:10Speaker 5: I don't know who's getting the money. I don't know
- 23:13Speaker 5: who to be upset about. You know, I can't go
- 23:15Speaker 5: in there and you know, do my my two kg.
- 23:17Speaker 5: I mean to be like, actually, if we but use
- 23:20Speaker 5: our Larry Bird rights and extend.
- 23:23Speaker 3: This, I mean, I'm I don't know about you guys,
- 23:26Speaker 3: but I'm a hundred percent that both these quarterbacks are
- 23:30Speaker 3: not me on the roster next year.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Wow, you're one hundred percent that we're gonna lose our
- 23:35Speaker 5: top two quarterbacks next year? Who are both sophomores? Yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 5: that's sophomore sophomore younger.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I think there's no shot that they keep both.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Oh, you worded that.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Totally different statement.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you worded that so poorly.
- 23:52Speaker 4: What I thought you meant like both TJ and.
- 23:56Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no, one of them's gone
- 24:00Speaker 3: next year. I think it's no chance that they're both
- 24:04Speaker 3: on the roster next Okay, okay, there either one of them.
- 24:08Speaker 3: I see, I'm trying to say either the Tivol will
- 24:11Speaker 3: not be on the roster next year.
- 24:13Speaker 4: That makes sense. I was like, Wow, what a freaking pivot.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I thought he was take out there.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I thought he was going extreme and making a joke
- 24:23Speaker 1: about like trying to be I don't know a bowl
- 24:26Speaker 1: to make a take.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I was like, what do you say?
- 24:29Speaker 3: No, no, one one of them will be a quarterback
- 24:32Speaker 3: next year.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on to Penn State. We talk a
- 24:35Speaker 1: lot quarterbacks, so I mean, I think we we've said,
- 24:38Speaker 1: you know what we think with with TJ and and
- 24:41Speaker 1: what we're gonna see potentially is Austin He was anything
- 24:46Speaker 1: going to add there on this quarterback play in general
- 24:49Speaker 1: in the Penn State defense of the.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Deft, I think Penn State's defense is really good.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Last you know, on Monday, I kind of ran through like, yeah,
- 24:58Speaker 5: they're whatever four and six or three. I think they're
- 25:02Speaker 5: four and six. But you look at the teams like
- 25:06Speaker 5: they're playing like three of those six lots or four
- 25:09Speaker 5: of those six losses are against top seven teams currently,
- 25:13Speaker 5: and none of their losses are getting really killed outside
- 25:16Speaker 5: of there was one in there. So I think their
- 25:21Speaker 5: defense is actually really good. They're really good at getting turnovers,
- 25:25Speaker 5: and they're really good at stopping the run. So I
- 25:29Speaker 5: suspect I don't think TJ is gonna have a clean
- 25:32Speaker 5: game this year this week because I think he's gonna
- 25:34Speaker 5: have to actually throw the ball a little bit more
- 25:35Speaker 5: than he did last week. I know he had a
- 25:38Speaker 5: whole week to prepare, but Penn State is also coming
- 25:41Speaker 5: up of bye week, I believe, so they've also had
- 25:44Speaker 5: a week to prepare for kind of the new approach.
- 25:47Speaker 5: So I expect TJ to look a little worse this week.
- 25:51Speaker 5: He's not gonna He's not gonna start the game eight
- 25:53Speaker 5: for eight without any turnovers this week.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but wouldn't that be nice?
- 26:00Speaker 4: Ben?
- 26:00Speaker 2: They did play at Michigan State last week.
- 26:03Speaker 4: So oh, you're right. They played Michigan State.
- 26:05Speaker 1: They won twenty eight ten, their first conference win, which
- 26:09Speaker 1: is just crazy to say, because I do think this
- 26:12Speaker 1: team that still has a lot of talent, And yes
- 26:17Speaker 1: they lost their starting quarterback, Yes they lost a lot
- 26:20Speaker 1: of games early, but I think that talent still there.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And when you have a lot of talent, part of
- 26:27Speaker 1: it is getting them mentally ready to play right, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: I think that might be a might have been a
- 26:33Speaker 1: huge fall off with not winning the big game early,
- 26:37Speaker 1: which when your expectation is national title or first like
- 26:43Speaker 1: your brain, your mind goes very in a different place
- 26:47Speaker 1: from a motivation standpoint getting out there on the field.
- 26:50Speaker 4: So did they fire Franklin after his third loss or
- 26:52Speaker 4: second loss?
- 26:53Speaker 1: I can't remember, it was early and so yes, you
- 26:58Speaker 1: when when you lack that extra drive at a football program,
- 27:03Speaker 1: when you're playing in a very physical sport, right, that
- 27:06Speaker 1: can lead to not potentially winning a lot of close games.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And that's what's happened. Have they overcome that and are
- 27:15Speaker 1: kind of back playing with motivation with fire? I wouldn't
- 27:19Speaker 1: say completely, but I think the longer this goes on,
- 27:25Speaker 1: more opportunity, you know, it's gonna get better. So, like,
- 27:28Speaker 1: I think this team still has a lot of talent,
- 27:30Speaker 1: and that's to me is what is scary heading into
- 27:35Speaker 1: this game. I don't think Penn State can kill anybody,
- 27:38Speaker 1: like I don't think that's how they want to play.
- 27:40Speaker 1: They even with Franklin, Like, they're not someone that's gonna
- 27:42Speaker 1: win forty seven to ten in the Big Ten. But
- 27:48Speaker 1: at the same time, they have the people to be
- 27:52Speaker 1: in control of the game from start to finish, which
- 27:54Speaker 1: is what happened last week when they played at Michigan
- 27:57Speaker 1: State and just destroyed them on the ground, using their
- 28:03Speaker 1: offensive line, getting stops on defense, and not letting Michigan
- 28:07Speaker 1: State's offense do anything that that's their mom and I
- 28:11Speaker 1: think they have the capability of doing that Saturday, which
- 28:14Speaker 1: is why I don't feel great going into the game
- 28:18Speaker 1: as a ten point underdog.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Yeah, here's da right now.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Doesn't Dak thinks we're going to cover, So that's he's
- 28:31Speaker 1: got to play the other side of why he feels
- 28:33Speaker 1: good about it.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Well, I mean there's I've already said this on Monday,
- 28:38Speaker 3: I said I believe in Latif. I think he's fits
- 28:42Speaker 3: his team a lot, But in I think the offense
- 28:44Speaker 3: looks totally better with him. So that that's why I
- 28:49Speaker 3: think they're in cover. And I do think I do
- 28:51Speaker 3: think the defense has shown signs of improvement stopping the
- 28:54Speaker 3: run as the year has gone on. So I'm not
- 28:59Speaker 3: now this is this is the best running team that
- 29:03Speaker 3: Nebraska has faced yet. Maybe Michigan I don't know, so
- 29:07Speaker 3: so it will be really interesting to see. But but Nebraska,
- 29:11Speaker 3: both teams defensive eyes are gonna sell out stop the
- 29:13Speaker 3: run like it's gonna it's gonna come down to which
- 29:19Speaker 3: which freshman quarterback plays better. That's just gonna come down
- 29:21Speaker 3: to because they're gonna have their changes to throw.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Here's here's why what you just said it's true. I
- 29:29Speaker 1: think they both teams are gonna have to stop the run.
- 29:33Speaker 1: But I think one team has to sell out to
- 29:35Speaker 1: stop the run the other team does not. I think
- 29:38Speaker 1: Penn State is gonna be able. I mean, Penn State's
- 29:41Speaker 1: run run defense has been very strong. Okay, yeah, Nebraska,
- 29:45Speaker 1: like where we are, our run defense is not And
- 29:49Speaker 1: John Butler, here's here's what's really strange, guys, I don't
- 29:52Speaker 1: know if you listened to John Butler at all.
- 29:56Speaker 2: On Tuesday, he flat out said the focus.
- 30:00Speaker 1: And emphasis is going to be on stopping the run,
- 30:04Speaker 1: and and like usually that's something I mean, it's probably
- 30:07Speaker 1: so obvious that that's why he said.
- 30:10Speaker 4: And he said that too.
- 30:12Speaker 1: We are gonna bring extra guys in the box, Like
- 30:14Speaker 1: he came out and said that. And he came out
- 30:15Speaker 1: and said, we are going to overload and do everything
- 30:18Speaker 1: we can to stop the run game. And everybody's gonna
- 30:20Speaker 1: know that, Like he just flat out came out and
- 30:22Speaker 1: said it.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Well, that's not smart. I I don't, I don't like.
- 30:25Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, come on, Dak, is that not obvious?
- 30:28Speaker 3: Like everyone knows what's gonna do, But why would you
- 30:30Speaker 3: come out and say that.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I think the point is that why does it matter
- 30:34Speaker 1: if everybody knows you're gonna do it? I agree, I
- 30:38Speaker 1: don't really need to think this explicitly say it, but yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 1: don't it is it is the number one thing that
- 30:44Speaker 1: anybody can figure out that we need to stop pem
- 30:48Speaker 1: State's run game. And maybe a little bit is a
- 30:51Speaker 1: little bit of gameplay or like he wants pem State
- 30:55Speaker 1: to hear it because they want them to try to say, Okay,
- 30:59Speaker 1: well they're gonna stop the so now we got to
- 31:00Speaker 1: get rock Meyer to throw it for three hundred yards
- 31:04Speaker 1: and try to get their game plan to switch. Like
- 31:07Speaker 1: maybe that's part of the reason why he said it.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I don't know, but that that's going to be the
- 31:12Speaker 1: name of the game. I think it is, and I
- 31:15Speaker 1: think that's what I would do. Like you're going on
- 31:18Speaker 1: the road to ten point dog, you don't have much
- 31:20Speaker 1: to lose, make him throw it for three hundred yards
- 31:22Speaker 1: to beat.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Yet does the fact that it's an away game for
- 31:32Speaker 4: us and impact you guys at all.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, oh yeah, I agree.
- 31:38Speaker 4: They don't think people are you know, I I am.
- 31:44Speaker 4: I guess. I mean, I can't talk about Monday, but
- 31:46Speaker 4: I think Penn States they're they're right there, like you
- 31:51Speaker 4: know they are.
- 31:53Speaker 5: They're very talented. Offensively is kind of in their issues
- 31:59Speaker 5: since went out, but you know they held Indiana to
- 32:03Speaker 5: twenty seven and Indiana it's kind.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Of been and that's that's where since Alur went out too.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I was never big on Alur, so I don't think
- 32:13Speaker 1: it's a huge drop off from I mean ours obviously
- 32:16Speaker 1: more experienced and as that veteran, but I think I don't.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I don't think it's a big drop off from him
- 32:20Speaker 2: to their backup. And yeah, you mentioned the road.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I mean, guys, this is a game that nobody has
- 32:28Speaker 1: winning get heading into the year or even remotely getting close.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I mean, we we all had as the toughest game
- 32:34Speaker 3: I think going in the year.
- 32:36Speaker 1: No shit, dak.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Well, Michigan, Misterian and USC too like we had up there.
- 32:41Speaker 3: But no, he didn't not like that. Like I mean this,
- 32:44Speaker 3: this is number one on everybody's board that survey.
- 32:46Speaker 1: So we did a survey the beginning of the year
- 32:49Speaker 1: for those those of you that might have participated in
- 32:51Speaker 1: it listening, basically percentage chance to win every game heading
- 32:55Speaker 1: into the year. I think the Michigan's in the USC
- 32:59Speaker 1: game were right around fifty percent. Fifty to fifty games
- 33:03Speaker 1: that people had us winning this averaged out to like fifteen,
- 33:08Speaker 1: so and.
- 33:09Speaker 4: I would give her. I would give her on entire
- 33:11Speaker 4: than fifteen.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Correct. It's things have changed, obviously, but it's still on
- 33:17Speaker 1: the road. At Penn State, add the night game to it.
- 33:20Speaker 1: They just want a game like, it's.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Not we have a true freshman quarterback. Yes, it's not
- 33:25Speaker 4: a game.
- 33:26Speaker 1: It's not going to be easy conditions. I heard the
- 33:28Speaker 1: teams practicing with like Mobamba just blaring on the loud speakers.
- 33:33Speaker 1: You're yeah when it gets allowed too. This is something
- 33:37Speaker 1: that I've kind of learned. I kind of knew this,
- 33:39Speaker 1: but as far as the details of snap counts and
- 33:44Speaker 1: communicating on the field, like I kind of started paying
- 33:47Speaker 1: attention to it more after the Kansas City game where Sorsby.
- 33:52Speaker 1: They talked about Sorsby having to go to a silent snapcount,
- 33:55Speaker 1: which is very common right for teams to do when
- 33:59Speaker 1: it's a lot. That's difficult to get everything in sync
- 34:07Speaker 1: from an offensive line, quarterback, receivers to where you're not
- 34:10Speaker 1: getting stupid fall start penalties. And on top of that,
- 34:16Speaker 1: it doesn't ideally play to you don't have the ability
- 34:19Speaker 1: to go on hard count, second count. You're going when
- 34:22Speaker 1: you're going, because that's the only you know, that's how
- 34:25Speaker 1: you're communicating to get its snapped. So the defense doesn't
- 34:28Speaker 1: have to worry as much about different cadences and things there.
- 34:33Speaker 1: So that's another element playing on the road that you
- 34:35Speaker 1: have to deal with. And add the fact that TJ's
- 34:40Speaker 1: a true freshman probably doing this for the first time
- 34:42Speaker 1: in his career, that that's scary. I or what else
- 34:48Speaker 1: to say. I don't feel great about it. It's also
- 34:53Speaker 1: the flip side of that, which is kind of nice.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Maybe you can if you want to view with this lenses.
- 34:57Speaker 1: He got nothing to lose, but I don't think people
- 35:01Speaker 1: are talking about it that way. But at the same time,
- 35:03Speaker 1: I mean, why not, like you have nothing. I think
- 35:09Speaker 1: it's a great game to go in and if you
- 35:10Speaker 1: win it, it means a lot of really really good
- 35:15Speaker 1: things for the program.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Which is funny because it's like if I were it's like, yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 5: would be the four and six team.
- 35:21Speaker 6: But it's like, hey, they just did it, you know,
- 35:24Speaker 6: like the record as your seven and three, Right, Yeah,
- 35:32Speaker 6: that's just funny.
- 35:34Speaker 4: You're not wrong. I agree.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Wait, here's here's here's here's a really good question. When
- 35:38Speaker 1: was the last time a seven and three team was
- 35:40Speaker 1: a ten point dog to a four and sixteen?
- 35:43Speaker 3: Oh?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Oh god, that's that's probably a fun one to look.
- 35:48Speaker 5: It's probably like Nebraska against Ohio State when we were
- 35:52Speaker 5: eight and one or whatever.
- 35:53Speaker 4: You got absolutely obliterated.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, that's gotta be God. I don't know
- 36:02Speaker 3: how long it's been, but we, like you said, Austin,
- 36:04Speaker 3: it's you said, it's Latis's first road game. It's really not, though,
- 36:07Speaker 3: but I'm not counting. I'm not counting really U c
- 36:10Speaker 3: l A is a road game.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I mean it was, But you don't think, Dak, you
- 36:15Speaker 1: don't think.
- 36:16Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not counting as that. So it'll be
- 36:21Speaker 3: it'll be interesting to see how he can handle that.
- 36:26Speaker 3: That no, because because I don't think. Nothing will be
- 36:30Speaker 3: interesting to see is how how loud it actually will
- 36:32Speaker 3: be there.
- 36:34Speaker 2: It'll be loud, it might not be filled.
- 36:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean tickets are.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I think it still pretty cheap and it's not going
- 36:40Speaker 1: to be your normal pen state, but it's going to
- 36:42Speaker 1: be lowed. I mean it's it's it's a stadium in
- 36:44Speaker 1: the holds one hundred and ten thousand people like it's
- 36:47Speaker 1: going to be.
- 36:49Speaker 2: It's gonna be the toughest environment we played in all year,
- 36:51Speaker 2: no doubt.
- 36:53Speaker 3: So here's yeah, here's what comes down to, too, and
- 36:57Speaker 3: this could easily happen, is you just don't want I
- 37:01Speaker 3: want just a spiral on the tief just completely melts
- 37:03Speaker 3: down freshman on the road, Like I could easily see
- 37:08Speaker 3: it going that way too quick. But but then again,
- 37:11Speaker 3: I'm on the t board. I think he's gonna be
- 37:13Speaker 3: great this game. I don't think I don't think he's
- 37:15Speaker 3: gonna be clean. I think he's gonna turn over once
- 37:17Speaker 3: or twice. But what you don't want is like the
- 37:21Speaker 3: four or five turnover game where just score ten, ten
- 37:25Speaker 3: or least points and it's just a meltdown.
- 37:32Speaker 1: M yeah, but I want to go through this exercise.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Name we don't go through a bunch, but if there's
- 37:45Speaker 1: a blueprint, if you were if you guys had to say, okay, guys,
- 37:48Speaker 1: team here's here's how we win this game. Here's how
- 37:53Speaker 1: we beat Penn State on the road in Happy Valley.
- 37:58Speaker 1: What what would be some key things that you got
- 38:01Speaker 1: to check off to do?
- 38:04Speaker 3: There's the main one, stop the run game and just.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Go through one at a time. Yeah, I don't I
- 38:12Speaker 1: would say the one the Dacks has stop their run game.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Okay, that's that's very generic. I'm thinking more like I.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Would say, probably you have to go out and you
- 38:22Speaker 5: have to score quick, and it has to be like
- 38:25Speaker 5: if you go out and you score quick with like chunk.
- 38:28Speaker 4: Plays and then they go for and out where they
- 38:31Speaker 4: go for and out and.
- 38:33Speaker 5: You score quick right off the bat within the first
- 38:35Speaker 5: two drives and just absolutely zapp the energy out of
- 38:38Speaker 5: the place.
- 38:39Speaker 1: I think that's huge to do quick start and and
- 38:43Speaker 1: good news is we've done that for the most part
- 38:46Speaker 1: on our first couple of drives this year.
- 38:48Speaker 4: Which has been very good help for me is confidence.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I think I think that helps a lot. One thing
- 38:56Speaker 1: for me is zero turnovers. I mean, and if you
- 39:01Speaker 1: have a turnover, it can't be out of a spot
- 39:03Speaker 1: where it flips the field or gives obviously gives them points.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Like you just keep you're not gonna be able to
- 39:10Speaker 1: turn the ball over in a game like this at all.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Like that to me is a very big thing. Back
- 39:18Speaker 1: back to you.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Or is that it?
- 39:23Speaker 1: That's how you win this game?
- 39:24Speaker 4: That's it?
- 39:25Speaker 3: No, No, that's not it. I'm trying to think with
- 39:27Speaker 3: The next point would be, I think, do not let
- 39:35Speaker 3: again with the crowd noise, do not let their pressure
- 39:38Speaker 3: get get to Nebraska early. Like the old line's got
- 39:43Speaker 3: it looks good in this game. And another thing that
- 39:46Speaker 3: will get the crowd going get sacks the first the
- 39:48Speaker 3: first couple of drives are huge. If okay, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 3: I'm gonna say they need they need the ball first,
- 39:55Speaker 3: go down Like Austin kind just said, go down and
- 39:57Speaker 3: score first drive. That's that's the main point.
- 39:59Speaker 1: He da not add a new one.
- 40:01Speaker 5: What else I'd probably say, especially when we're both running teams,
- 40:06Speaker 5: the team that has the longest time possessions probably gonna
- 40:10Speaker 5: have a better chance of winning just because we want
- 40:12Speaker 5: to run the ball aten they want to around the
- 40:14Speaker 5: ball a ton, and that does limit your your opportunities
- 40:19Speaker 5: to score.
- 40:20Speaker 4: So if we have the ball longer, it's gonna be
- 40:22Speaker 4: I think it's gonna be a lower scoring game. I
- 40:24Speaker 4: don't know for a fact.
- 40:25Speaker 5: So I mean, if if we have it longer, we
- 40:29Speaker 5: prevent them from having their long drives and taking us
- 40:32Speaker 5: out of rhythm and giving their time for the crowd
- 40:35Speaker 5: to get back into it, I think that'd be important.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you. It shortened possessions as much as
- 40:41Speaker 1: you can. Penn State's not one that wants to go fast,
- 40:44Speaker 1: so that helps there. And to go along with that,
- 40:48Speaker 1: then I mean, this is why both my first couple
- 40:51Speaker 1: here are dealing with turnovers. We have to force and
- 40:55Speaker 1: make a couple of big plays. And I'm gonna add
- 40:57Speaker 1: just a big play moment to it, whether it be
- 41:01Speaker 1: forcing a turnover, capitalizing on a turnover, a special team's play,
- 41:05Speaker 1: a blocked kick, a punt return, a kick return, Like,
- 41:09Speaker 1: we need a big play moment because there's gonna be
- 41:13Speaker 1: fewer opportunities, right, there's gonna be shorter possessions. You're not
- 41:17Speaker 1: gonna have a bunch of time to do that. And
- 41:19Speaker 1: if you can do that and get an advantage there,
- 41:22Speaker 1: like that's gonna help you win a game like that
- 41:24Speaker 1: on the road. And we've had those moments this year
- 41:28Speaker 1: against various opponents, so that that would be huge to
- 41:30Speaker 1: me to win this DAK.
- 41:34Speaker 2: You're gonna get another shot because your last one was
- 41:36Speaker 2: very poor.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Hit grunk Meyer early and opten hit him all game
- 41:40Speaker 3: long like he's he's a freshman too, So get get
- 41:43Speaker 3: his ass rattled.
- 41:43Speaker 4: You get.
- 41:46Speaker 3: The crowd doesn't rattling at all, so so you got
- 41:48Speaker 3: to hit him kind of like they kind of tried
- 41:52Speaker 3: to do that with God can I think with the
- 41:54Speaker 3: Michigan car Underwood they kind of tried to do that
- 41:57Speaker 3: early in the game and they not rattle him that much.
- 41:58Speaker 3: I don't think so. So get pressure on grunk Meyer
- 42:05Speaker 3: and rattle his ass.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's I think very important. I think he's
- 42:13Speaker 1: also a guy that, like almost every quarterback we've played
- 42:17Speaker 1: this year, that has the ability to scramble and move.
- 42:19Speaker 1: But he's not an elite runner, but he has the
- 42:24Speaker 1: ability to scramble and get yardage when he needs to.
- 42:34Speaker 1: So Austin any any other ones, I don't think, you know,
- 42:38Speaker 1: that's kind of that's me. He's kind of he's kind
- 42:39Speaker 1: of laid out a blueprint there, right, Like obviously there
- 42:42Speaker 1: are things you want to do in every game, don't
- 42:44Speaker 1: get me wrong, but especially when you're trying to win
- 42:47Speaker 1: a game on the road, getting upset like those are
- 42:50Speaker 1: those are your those are your focuses right now.
- 42:52Speaker 5: And it's a little more IOI. You know, typically where
- 42:54Speaker 5: you want to control. You want to control time possession,
- 42:57Speaker 5: you want to control field position. I think, and I
- 43:01Speaker 5: know Hunter and I Dak, you're probably thinking we're gonna score.
- 43:03Speaker 5: It's gonna be thirty seven, thirty one.
- 43:05Speaker 1: He's always way up there.
- 43:08Speaker 4: But I think it's probably gonna be. There's gonna be
- 43:11Speaker 4: a team under twenty in the team right around twenty.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Well, it's like a little Nebraska basketball here. Score predictions
- 43:20Speaker 1: for the football game. I've had one that's like stuck
- 43:26Speaker 1: in my head all week. I have twenty seven to
- 43:29Speaker 1: ten Penn State.
- 43:31Speaker 3: Wow.
- 43:31Speaker 4: See I was gonna say twenty four to twenty one
- 43:34Speaker 4: Penn State.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Yeah, this goes to me not feeling great. I think
- 43:40Speaker 1: Penn State's gonna control the game. I think it's gonna
- 43:42Speaker 1: be just like that Michigan State.
- 43:43Speaker 4: I I I think they're good guys against the run
- 43:47Speaker 4: all year.
- 43:48Speaker 1: I think they're still good like I still think they're
- 43:51Speaker 1: very and I think TJ is going to help our offense.
- 43:53Speaker 1: But I just I just don't know that it's gonna
- 43:57Speaker 1: make it explosive to where we go score thirty. I
- 44:01Speaker 1: just I don't see that happening.
- 44:03Speaker 4: They'd be Michigan State twenty eight to ten.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I don't. I don't. I don't see the game going
- 44:09Speaker 1: for the way both teams play. I agree, I don't
- 44:11Speaker 1: know what the total is.
- 44:12Speaker 2: It's gotta be low. I think it's gonna be pretty low.
- 44:14Speaker 4: It's pretty forty four and a half.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I would I take the unders on that, I
- 44:21Speaker 1: think pretty confidently. I just think it's gonna be a
- 44:24Speaker 1: very The score might not end up seventeen like I
- 44:27Speaker 1: just said, but it could. It's gonna be low scoring.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I just I just don't think there's gonna be a
- 44:32Speaker 1: lot of possessions, a lot of opportunities to score, and
- 44:37Speaker 1: if you do score, it's not I don't think there's
- 44:39Speaker 1: gonna be very many explosive plays either way. I think
- 44:42Speaker 1: it's gonna be grind out.
- 44:43Speaker 3: A lot of a lot of ten fifteen yard or
- 44:45Speaker 3: fifteen play drives.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Correct, That's how I think the game is gonna go.
- 44:50Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna go thirty seven thirty one to Brett. Now,
- 44:54Speaker 3: now I'm gonna go twenty to seventeen Nebraska again, one
- 45:00Speaker 3: of your guys, I think it's be very low scoring
- 45:03Speaker 3: running the ball. I mean, it's.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Right.
- 45:09Speaker 3: What what I'm gonna say is Okay, here we go
- 45:11Speaker 3: forty eight yard walk off game winner.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Wow, that is a bold prediction.
- 45:18Speaker 3: That's how that's an umbressed. That's an our key to
- 45:20Speaker 3: the game. You guys can you guys can can't borring
- 45:21Speaker 3: at me because this is very generous to make your
- 45:24Speaker 3: damn kicks.
- 45:25Speaker 4: There you go, damn this year.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it hasn't. That's that's one part of the game
- 45:32Speaker 3: that you can't come in worried about for about the
- 45:34Speaker 3: first time ever.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Hasn't been perfect, but it's been a lot better.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Great, I would compared to years past.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I think what's helped to is the ones that he
- 45:46Speaker 1: has missed it. They haven't been like awful looking. We've
- 45:50Speaker 1: we've seen awful looking kicks, including blocks. So yeah, Nebraska
- 45:59Speaker 1: basketball play tonight. So depending on when you listen to
- 46:03Speaker 1: this episode, game may or may not be completed. They
- 46:08Speaker 1: play in Kansas City in some classic. I don't have
- 46:11Speaker 1: the name of the classic written down, but it's a tournament,
- 46:14Speaker 1: any tournament. This is kind of tournament week, Big game
- 46:17Speaker 1: week here next week leading to Thanksgiving for college basketball.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I always think these are fun events to play in.
- 46:28Speaker 1: We've played in several different in these in the past
- 46:30Speaker 1: several years. New Mexico is our opening opponent, former Richard
- 46:37Speaker 1: Patino's team, but Richard Bertino's now at Xavier, so this
- 46:41Speaker 1: is a newer, new coach. We are seven point favorites
- 46:44Speaker 1: heading into that game on Thursday night, and then on
- 46:47Speaker 1: Friday we play the winner or loser, whether we win
- 46:51Speaker 1: or lose, of Kansas State and Mississippi State. Two more.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Opponent to that, especially the second game, but even this
- 47:03Speaker 2: first one, right.
- 47:04Speaker 3: That are big games for thought, opponent, non.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Conference implications of a tournament birth later on in the year.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Even if you lose this first one, that second one
- 47:15Speaker 1: you need to win. You cannot go into in this
- 47:17Speaker 1: tournament and expect to make the tournament. It's not going
- 47:20Speaker 1: to happen.
- 47:24Speaker 2: I think we are a better team than New Mexico
- 47:26Speaker 2: for everything.
- 47:27Speaker 4: I don't think we'll go into We shouldn't.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I think this team is coming off a very big
- 47:32Speaker 1: win as well, and I think that's a part of
- 47:37Speaker 1: setting in and not getting too excited that we're good,
- 47:41Speaker 1: but rightfully so we have reason to because of the
- 47:45Speaker 1: way we played at least offensively against Oklahoma in the Pentagon.
- 47:52Speaker 1: I I want to see if we can keep shooting well, guys.
- 47:56Speaker 4: I do, like I.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Always kind of any game NBA games too, you shooting
- 48:03Speaker 1: can come and go with teams. I kind of it'd
- 48:07Speaker 1: be fun to see this stay around with this team.
- 48:10Speaker 1: For all the whole season. We've shot it well in
- 48:16Speaker 1: every game. The one game we kind of started off
- 48:19Speaker 1: a little slower. We've done that a couple of times,
- 48:22Speaker 1: but for the most part, overall, we're shooting it well,
- 48:24Speaker 1: which is what this team is going to have to
- 48:26Speaker 1: do to win games. And we'll say that every podcast
- 48:28Speaker 1: from here until the end of the year because it's
- 48:31Speaker 1: the truth. So let's keep doing it. If you don't,
- 48:36Speaker 1: I don't like our chances in neither one of these games,
- 48:38Speaker 1: so very generic analysis, but that's how it's going to
- 48:43Speaker 1: be a lot this year.
- 48:44Speaker 4: I think, Yeah, I think we're going to be in
- 48:46Speaker 4: offense wins games kind of team.
- 48:48Speaker 1: So and maybe defense can surprise some people. I mean,
- 48:53Speaker 1: the defense being so schematic based, it it can still
- 48:58Speaker 1: stun some people. And it's worked against very high level
- 49:01Speaker 1: teams in the past, your your Purdus of the world,
- 49:07Speaker 1: your Michigan State's like, it's done a decent job against that.
- 49:10Speaker 1: So your hope is that your defense can catch fire.
- 49:13Speaker 1: How defense can catch fire and and hold teams to
- 49:18Speaker 1: you know, keep them in the sixties and seventies.
- 49:20Speaker 4: But the nice thing about you know, nice thing about
- 49:24Speaker 4: basketball is like, yeah, we played lesser opponents, but shooting
- 49:27Speaker 4: percentages still still matter. Like, you know, in football, it's like, well,
- 49:32Speaker 4: you actually went you know, twelve for thirteen passing. Well,
- 49:35Speaker 4: in basketball, you're still you're still shooting in like from
- 49:37Speaker 4: the same spots on the court. You might have a
- 49:39Speaker 4: little less defensive pressure and I will impact it.
- 49:41Speaker 5: But if you're hitting at a high clip, it's usually
- 49:47Speaker 5: a sign that you can actually shoot the ball, not
- 49:48Speaker 5: necessarily a product of who you're playing.
- 49:50Speaker 1: And a lot of with shooting percentages, too, is who's
- 49:52Speaker 1: shooting the basketball right on the team? Are are your
- 49:56Speaker 1: best guys getting clean open looks? Or are your lesser shooters?
- 50:02Speaker 1: I mean, in years past, right is is Juwan Gary
- 50:06Speaker 1: shooting the ball or Bryce Williams last year's team are
- 50:09Speaker 1: two different style of shooters.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Here's the here's Another good thing about the Night's game
- 50:16Speaker 3: is it will be another neutral site in quotations game
- 50:19Speaker 3: where Rugby basicallysters. Yeah, which would be nice. Now tomorrow,
- 50:24Speaker 3: if they play K State, it'll be fifty to fifty probably,
- 50:27Speaker 3: but yep, if not more KSE So so that's the way.
- 50:30Speaker 3: It's nice that they'll have that. I think they're gonna
- 50:34Speaker 3: keep shooting it like they have been. I'm totally on
- 50:37Speaker 3: on the shoot. I don't think it's a fluke at all,
- 50:40Speaker 3: and I don't think you guys change the fluke. But
- 50:43Speaker 3: but yeah, I think they're gona keep shoting. I think
- 50:44Speaker 3: they went to Night by fifteen plus. I don't. I
- 50:46Speaker 3: don't think New Mexico's they have been a good team
- 50:49Speaker 3: in the past. I don't. I think they're down this
- 50:51Speaker 3: year big time.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Dak.
- 50:54Speaker 2: You are just you've been the kool Aid sipping machine this.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Year, even before they tipped Offif years sad, they're gonna.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Get I'm dropping football in basketball. You just you fully
- 51:05Speaker 1: transitioned into a kool Aid Husker fan.
- 51:08Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, I think another reason why I'm
- 51:12Speaker 3: so big honest basketball is because they're they're fun as
- 51:15Speaker 3: how to watch too. I love the style basketball where
- 51:18Speaker 3: he just shoot. I mean, because I'm Celtics fan, I've
- 51:20Speaker 3: watched it for the last three years, but I love
- 51:23Speaker 3: teams I can just shoot, put up one hundred. He's
- 51:27Speaker 3: not easily, but yeah, good offensive teams. I would like
- 51:34Speaker 3: to see tonight a little bit better defense than we
- 51:38Speaker 3: saw at Oklahoma, especially against the lesser in quotations gain
- 51:43Speaker 3: lesser opponent, Like, don't let this team do it Oklahoma
- 51:47Speaker 3: did in the first half.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Austin, can you just have my back and tell Dak
- 51:52Speaker 1: that he's wasting his time following the NBA the next
- 51:56Speaker 1: like ten years because the Thunder just have it locked up.
- 52:00Speaker 5: Uh, ten years is a long time contract. The hard cap,
- 52:04Speaker 5: the second apron, it'll it'll break him up. But gosh,
- 52:09Speaker 5: the Thunder, it runs, it's Thunder Nuggets. It's until it's
- 52:13Speaker 5: the Thunders team to lose games to lose unless Nicole
- 52:17Speaker 5: jokicch is playing in that, which case is like, well,
- 52:19Speaker 5: maybe they'll win, but yeah, Celtics are done.
- 52:23Speaker 4: You're not winning another one.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Damn's coming back.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Who cares?
- 52:29Speaker 4: Jalen Brown has to paint on his hair, he's so
- 52:31Speaker 4: stressed about it.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Often would you have Jason Tatum in your top ten
- 52:34Speaker 1: NBA players right now?
- 52:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 52:37Speaker 3: Probably, well not right now he is a torn achilles.
- 52:41Speaker 5: When he would probably cracked the top ten. He's not
- 52:44Speaker 5: top five. He's never winning an MVP.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Wow, Okay, I think that's a bold take.
- 52:52Speaker 4: No, no, it is not. I don't what he's twenty seven.
- 52:56Speaker 4: He's twenty seven, twenty.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Will not win another m v P or not, I
- 53:02Speaker 2: shouldn't say another. He's never won one.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Yeah, he's never even won a finals or Easter.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not winning an m v P.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Like it not.
- 53:11Speaker 5: Next year he'll be his twenty He'll be twenty eight
- 53:13Speaker 5: next year's season when he's he'll play if he sure,
- 53:17Speaker 5: if he comes back at the He's not winning MVP
- 53:19Speaker 5: this year, twenty eight. But Wemby's I mean he's around.
- 53:26Speaker 4: To win an m v P.
- 53:27Speaker 1: You have to at least be on a team that's
- 53:28Speaker 1: remotely good too. The Celtics are not going to be
- 53:32Speaker 1: like a top five team in.
- 53:35Speaker 3: The East, you know, I mean this season or like
- 53:38Speaker 3: for the future.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Just and I don't think the Celtics are like I
- 53:40Speaker 1: could they could make it in there. They're not going
- 53:42Speaker 1: to be a consistent top team.
- 53:45Speaker 5: They'll be they'll be consistent top five team in the East.
- 53:47Speaker 5: The East isn't that great and they if they are
- 53:51Speaker 5: able to make Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown alone, probably keep
- 53:53Speaker 5: it as a top five team. But he's just not
- 53:57Speaker 5: He's just not gonna win the m v P. He
- 53:59Speaker 5: have to be like the number one one team and
- 54:00Speaker 5: have put up You either have to be the number
- 54:02Speaker 5: one team on your conference, number one or two, or
- 54:04Speaker 5: you have to put it up insane numbers like Lucas,
- 54:07Speaker 5: you know, averaging like forty points a game.
- 54:12Speaker 1: I will take that back. I shouldn't have said Celtics
- 54:14Speaker 1: not say yeah, you're right. I forgot the East is
- 54:17Speaker 1: like horrendous, but you're yeah. The Jason Datam MVP is
- 54:23Speaker 1: like never happening ever.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Well, I mean they're especially this year. They're a team
- 54:31Speaker 3: that counts beers. They can choose ship out of the
- 54:33Speaker 3: ball that that's that's all they do and the and
- 54:35Speaker 3: they rely on that when Tam comes back, and I
- 54:39Speaker 3: think that lineup is easily top three in the East
- 54:43Speaker 3: with him in it.
- 54:46Speaker 4: M.
- 54:50Speaker 1: It's not MVP worthy And that's not now the NBA,
- 54:53Speaker 1: that's not NBA Finals. Well that could because they.
- 54:55Speaker 4: Could be finals. They can make the finals.
- 54:57Speaker 2: They're not beating the thunder like or or Nuggets easily.
- 55:03Speaker 3: They will. Now, what I'm not missing right now is
- 55:06Speaker 3: watching watch Jay statum iso ball where he just Jack's
- 55:09Speaker 3: at the worst shot you've ever seen the world with
- 55:11Speaker 3: he dribbles it down two seconds left shot just Jackson,
- 55:13Speaker 3: twenty seven player. I'm not I'm not missing watching that
- 55:15Speaker 3: right now, So so I can wait for that. But
- 55:19Speaker 3: he will be back in February. And you know what,
- 55:22Speaker 3: right this, write this in pen right now. They're gonna
- 55:25Speaker 3: make the finals this year.
- 55:27Speaker 4: The Celtics are making the finals this year.
- 55:29Speaker 1: You want to make another bet on it? Like, come on,
- 55:31Speaker 1: let's go.
- 55:32Speaker 3: What what do you want to do?
- 55:33Speaker 4: A marathon?
- 55:34Speaker 1: What do you want to do? You want to up
- 55:36Speaker 1: your half marathon to a marathon.
- 55:38Speaker 5: They're winning, they're making the finals. Even when they're making
- 55:41Speaker 5: the finals.
- 55:42Speaker 1: What do you want to do, Dak, Let's go, let's see.
- 55:43Speaker 3: If Jay Sam comes back. If he doesn't, then know
- 55:45Speaker 3: they're not making the finals.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Okay, let's letay, let's go. You have one with me,
- 55:50Speaker 1: Let's go with you and Austin. All right, since since
- 55:52Speaker 1: you're on this, you're on this high horse.
- 55:55Speaker 2: What do you want to do another half marathon with Austin?
- 55:58Speaker 3: No? No, no, no, no, no no no.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I'm okay, okay, you're gonna say something.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Back down again, aren't you.
- 56:03Speaker 3: I'm not gonna do two half marathons.
- 56:05Speaker 4: I are you?
- 56:07Speaker 2: You're backing down from your You're you're you're you're backing.
- 56:10Speaker 1: It down now, aren't you. You're you're wimping out. Come on,
- 56:15Speaker 1: do another half marathon. Bet if you're that confident that
- 56:17Speaker 1: they're gonna make the finals this year, You're not that confident.
- 56:22Speaker 3: I'm not. I'm not saying this is like a guarantee.
- 56:24Speaker 1: I just that's what you just said.
- 56:25Speaker 4: It is what you say.
- 56:27Speaker 2: That is what you said.
- 56:28Speaker 4: All right. The odds for the Boston Celtics to make
- 56:32Speaker 4: the twenty twenty six NBA Finals gotta be like thirty five.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I was gonna say two thousands.
- 56:39Speaker 4: That's even the NBA Finals to make the NBA finals.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Dak you are. This is why anytime that you talk
- 56:49Speaker 1: about your favorite teams, it has a zero merit with anybody.
- 56:53Speaker 3: It's never biased or you make any bets.
- 56:56Speaker 1: It is.
- 56:57Speaker 4: It is horrible.
- 56:59Speaker 1: You are like some people are really bad, like that's
- 57:01Speaker 1: a general thing, right in the betting world. Are in
- 57:05Speaker 1: the fandom world in general? You are the worst at
- 57:08Speaker 1: it and you're not even a fan of half the
- 57:09Speaker 1: teams you say you are.
- 57:11Speaker 3: Oh, yes, i am.
- 57:13Speaker 4: He is a Celtics fan. I'll give him that.
- 57:15Speaker 1: I'll give him a Celtics fan. But most are the
- 57:18Speaker 1: other ones.
- 57:19Speaker 4: Not even Boston Celtics currently sitting as the ninth seed
- 57:22Speaker 4: in the East.
- 57:23Speaker 2: Not even, but they're guaranteed Austin.
- 57:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna say it right now, right now, they are
- 57:28Speaker 1: making the NBA Finals.
- 57:30Speaker 4: Now I will say.
- 57:32Speaker 5: Okay, the website of I'm looking at Fandel's sports bet sportsbook.
- 57:36Speaker 5: They do have the same odds as the seventy six
- 57:39Speaker 5: ers and they're one below the Detroit Pistons. And the
- 57:42Speaker 5: Pistons are currently number one team in the East.
- 57:44Speaker 3: So what of the Knicks number one?
- 57:48Speaker 4: No, the Pistons are.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Who are the number one team to make the finals? No?
- 57:53Speaker 4: Live Oh uh, it is the Oklahoma State Thunder. But
- 57:58Speaker 4: from the Eastern Conference, the East, from the East, from
- 57:59Speaker 4: the East in the East, it's Nicks, Orlando, Detroit Celtics.
- 58:03Speaker 4: So not a lot of faith in the East Conference
- 58:07Speaker 4: because from the West. It's oh, Cleveland's in there. Sorry,
- 58:09Speaker 4: Cleveland's number one.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Oh wow, good NBA to guys, we even we've talked
- 58:15Speaker 1: to NBA for yet, So we will continue to do
- 58:19Speaker 1: this and listen to Dax's stephen A. Smith blabber.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Okay, here's a not bias take on my team. If
- 58:28Speaker 3: I can suck, so I will say that right now.
- 58:30Speaker 1: There you go, m terrible Just wait, just wait.
- 58:33Speaker 2: They'll win next week and Dack will think they're winning
- 58:35Speaker 2: the super Bowl again.
- 58:36Speaker 1: That's how it good.
- 58:37Speaker 3: I hope, thank god they win this week.
- 58:38Speaker 5: But JJ McCarthy trade is a terrible trade. When it happened,
- 58:41Speaker 5: I felt that way we got happened when it you know,
- 58:43Speaker 5: when they jumped up for it.
- 58:45Speaker 4: I feel that way. Now.
