- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst,
- 0:05Speaker 1: where two longtime friends challenge each other on the biggest
- 0:08Speaker 1: sports stories of the day. Here's Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Not so fast, my friends.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Welcome to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's Paul Papps.
- 0:21Speaker 3: We have Monday Night Football. Are you a main telecast
- 0:24Speaker 3: or a manning cast guy?
- 0:25Speaker 4: I flip-flop. I usually start with the manning cast to
- 0:27Speaker 4: see what the boys want to say. It's good to
- 0:29Speaker 4: see them back. The manning cast is a lot of fun.
- 0:31Speaker 4: You get the insight. When is the Not So Fast cast?
- 0:34Speaker 4: Is that in the works?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Oh, I think it's going to be Not So Fast
- 0:37Speaker 2: until we get a Not So Fast cast.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Keep an eye on that.
- 0:40Speaker 3: All right, Chiefs win 31-10. Paul, what's your biggest reaction
- 0:43Speaker 3: to the game?
- 0:44Speaker 4: Well, I think everyone sat down and expected some sort
- 0:46Speaker 4: of a shootout, but maybe Patrick Mahomes' slow start. I
- 0:48Speaker 4: think he was 2-10 to start the game. But when
- 0:51Speaker 4: he had that run where he ran for the 15-yard touchdown,
- 0:53Speaker 4: I'm not even a Chiefs fan, but I look and
- 0:55Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, don't run.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Don't run.
- 0:57Speaker 4: And then he got to about the 5-yard line, and
- 0:59Speaker 4: I'm like, is he going to slide or go shoulders in?
- 1:02Speaker 4: He went shoulders in, and I think even the DBs
- 1:04Speaker 4: were surprised that he didn't put on the brakes. But
- 1:07Speaker 4: Chiefs fans were like holding their breath and then exhaling.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Oh, I saw that touchdown. I was like, Chiefs are back. Yes.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Actually, all night long I said Chiefs are back. The
- 1:15Speaker 3: entire preseason narrative about this team.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Just out the window.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I thought they were going to be in trouble, Paul.
- 1:21Speaker 2: They're not in trouble at all. They look like the
- 1:23Speaker 2: team that it's been to how many Super Bowls?
- 1:25Speaker 4: And we get to Ken Walker, but the guys like
- 1:27Speaker 4: Chris Jones and George Karloftis and Bolton. And all those
- 1:29Speaker 4: guys on defense stepped up. Rasheed Rice back. Things have
- 1:33Speaker 4: calmed down from the offseason. He's playing good football. Travis Kelsey,
- 1:36Speaker 4: nice night. All the usual suspects were in place.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you mentioned the running game. Obviously, Ken
- 1:41Speaker 3: Walker gets the headlines. But give Andy Reid, the coach, credit.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Because they went under center, which they never do.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:47Speaker 3: And they had backup offensive linemen. Somehow those backup offensive
- 1:51Speaker 3: linemen had no problem with the Broncos' pass rush, which
- 1:54Speaker 3: had the most sacks in the entire NFL last year,
- 1:57Speaker 3: pushed them around.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It really was, to me... I'm not surprised they won,
- 2:01Speaker 2: but how they did it was a revelation.
- 2:03Speaker 4: And if you look at Kenneth Walker, he goes from
- 2:05Speaker 4: Super Bowl MVP to a better situation. You're playing with Mahomes.
- 2:09Speaker 4: You're going to get the ball, and you're going to
- 2:10Speaker 4: have a lot of freedom to get the ball. Pass game,
- 2:12Speaker 4: the shovel pass here. But if you look at the offseason,
- 2:15Speaker 4: what the Chiefs did, they've never had a true alpha
- 2:18Speaker 4: dog running back. Early Kareem Hunt was pretty good, but 173,
- 2:22Speaker 4: two touchdowns, a catch, which was like a shovel pass.
- 2:25Speaker 4: But they have this alpha dog who's in the prime
- 2:27Speaker 4: of his career to– I wouldn't use the word protect
- 2:30Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes, but accentuate Mahomes.
- 2:32Speaker 2: How dare you? What about our favorite? Some of our
- 2:35Speaker 2: favorite running backs of all time are Kansas City guys.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Are we doing know your Chiefs running backs like Barry Word?
- 2:40Speaker 4: One of your favorites.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Christian McCoy.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Christian McCoy. Jamal Charles.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Priest Holmes.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Priest Holmes. Larry Johnson had a couple good years.
- 2:46Speaker 3: So is this sort of a callback now? Is that
- 2:49Speaker 3: the kind of Chiefs we're going to have now? Or
- 2:51Speaker 3: Ken Walker is one of the primary guys and Mahomes
- 2:53Speaker 3: is not secondary.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But is this offense going to be a run first offense?
- 2:57Speaker 4: By the way, there's nothing more not so fast than
- 2:59Speaker 4: just randomly throwing an old Chiefs running back.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 4: I don't think it's going to be primarily a running offense,
- 3:04Speaker 4: but they have that option because, again, Kenneth Walker is
- 3:07Speaker 4: paid three years entering his prime as a running back.
- 3:10Speaker 3: You gave me an assignment this morning, Paul. Come up
- 3:13Speaker 3: with the perfect comp for Kenneth Walker, the running back.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Okay, now the easy comp is?
- 3:17Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Le'Veon Bell is the easy comp, kind of a jump cut,
- 3:22Speaker 4: patient running back.
- 3:23Speaker 2: He's twice as fast as Le'Veon Bell. I agree. Okay,
- 3:26Speaker 2: he's too fast for Le'Veon Bell.
- 3:27Speaker 4: My old school comp for Kenneth Walker, Garrison Hurst.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Jacked.
- 3:32Speaker 4: But with some sizzle.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Garrison Hurst out of Georgia, San Francisco 49ers?
- 3:35Speaker 4: Yes. I'm going old school. Garrison Hurst was a fantastic
- 3:38Speaker 4: running back. Check you too. It reminds me of the
- 3:40Speaker 4: jump cut, but enough power. He's like a true combo
- 3:43Speaker 4: back who has the moves. I won't say Saquon Barkley,
- 3:47Speaker 4: but it's almost like, I don't want to say a
- 3:48Speaker 4: poor man Saquon Barkley, but the jump cut reminds.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Me of that.
- 3:51Speaker 3: So if he's this running back, who is Mahomes? Because
- 3:55Speaker 3: the receivers did not get a lot of action last night.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I know Rasheed Rice had one beautiful play. But you
- 4:00Speaker 3: didn't hear Worthy's name and Rice's name a lot. There
- 4:02Speaker 3: was some Kelsey. Is it going to ever be the
- 4:04Speaker 3: high-octane Chiefs again?
- 4:05Speaker 4: And you pointed out before the show, I think we
- 4:07Speaker 4: were talking, he didn't have a pass completed over 10 yards. Now,
- 4:10Speaker 4: when you win, no one talks about that kind of stuff.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, the defense, again, was really awesome. It made Bo
- 4:17Speaker 3: Nix look like he was at Auburn playing Georgia. Yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 3: I kind of want a mulligan ball on my Super
- 4:23Speaker 3: Bowl pick.
- 4:23Speaker 4: All right, let's get to the Broncos' side of this.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Let's get to the bad side of this. Ten points
- 4:27Speaker 4: for the Broncos, a lot of expectations. They finished off
- 4:30Speaker 4: the year great last year, and everyone's like, if they
- 4:32Speaker 4: had Bo Nix, they'd be in the Super Bowl. A
- 4:34Speaker 4: lot of people picked them for the Super Bowl. I'm
- 4:36Speaker 4: going to get to that in a second. But what
- 4:37Speaker 4: did you see with the Broncos last night?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Oh, the Broncos offensively were a total mess. New offensive
- 4:44Speaker 3: coordinator Davis Webb was supposed to get the calls in immediately.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It looked like Bo Nix was scrambling to beat the
- 4:49Speaker 3: game clock almost every play. And one or two times
- 4:53Speaker 3: he did not get it in. receivers dropped passes.
- 4:56Speaker 2: The run game was non-existent. I think they only had
- 4:58Speaker 2: six carries at halftime, Paul.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Everyone knew you have to run against the Chiefs defense,
- 5:02Speaker 3: and they just refused.
- 5:04Speaker 2: It's a mess.
- 5:05Speaker 4: No run blocking, no pass blocking. Bo Nix didn't do
- 5:08Speaker 4: enough on his own. If you look at that, Jalen
- 5:10Speaker 4: Waddell got three targets. You'd think he'd be a feature guy.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah, major drop by Waddell, too. It is an important drop.
- 5:16Speaker 2: That's the biggest disappointment of the night.
- 5:18Speaker 4: And if you're watching that game, Monday Night Football, they
- 5:20Speaker 4: announced Davis Webb, the former quarterback who played with Eli,
- 5:23Speaker 4: is the new offensive coordinator. That was spotlit in that game,
- 5:27Speaker 4: and all the blame seemed to shift his way.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Okay, Sean Payton's one of the greatest play callers of
- 5:31Speaker 2: all time. Right. Of all time.
- 5:33Speaker 3: How many weeks is he going to sit there and
- 5:35Speaker 3: watch this offense plot along like it did?
- 5:38Speaker 2: I'll be honest, Paul, I would take over week two.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Just pull the Band-Aid.
- 5:43Speaker 3: What did you see last night that said Davis Webb
- 5:45Speaker 3: should be the offensive coordinator of this team?
- 5:47Speaker 4: I see what you're saying. You do cut the legs
- 5:49Speaker 4: out under your offensive coordinator if after one week you
- 5:52Speaker 4: announce he's no longer calling plays.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Just to be nice, you're letting him do his job.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I say you get right in there because the season's
- 5:59Speaker 3: going to get.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Away from you if you're Denver. Jacksonville this week. But
- 6:01Speaker 2: they played great. You can't lose this game.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I will say, though, Denver under Sean Payton has never
- 6:06Speaker 4: started well in September. Last year, they were 1-2. So
- 6:09Speaker 4: maybe there will be more patience. But if you look
- 6:11Speaker 4: at the schedule coming up, Jags– Rams.
- 6:16Speaker 2: At the Niners.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Niners. And the Chargers are probably better at that point
- 6:19Speaker 4: than the Seahawks. You could look at that schedule and think,
- 6:22Speaker 4: we could be 1-4.
- 6:23Speaker 3: That is not a schedule to learn how to be
- 6:25Speaker 3: an offensive coordinator. Honestly, Peyton should take it away from
- 6:29Speaker 3: from Webb immediately. As you said, rip the Band-Aid off.
- 6:32Speaker 3: And then if he wants to give it back to
- 6:33Speaker 3: him for, I don't know, where's the break?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Cardinals. The Cardinals were good last week. So who knows?
- 6:40Speaker 2: But I am actually really worried. I did pick the
- 6:42Speaker 2: Broncos and now I regret it.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Okay. So if you're watching the Dan Patrick show earlier today,
- 6:45Speaker 4: Dan did mention that his Super Bowl pick was the Broncos.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Yours was the Broncos.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Coincidence. Right.
- 6:50Speaker 4: We gave Dan a do-over. He said, no, I'm sticking.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I'm not going to bail week one. Will you bail
- 6:54Speaker 4: week one on your Broncos?
- 6:55Speaker 2: I will not just bail.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I will 100% bail, and I have no problem doing this.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And I'll tell you where I want to bail if
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'm allowed.
- 7:01Speaker 4: But if you bail, you can't unbail. I'm checking with
- 7:04Speaker 4: the control room. No unbailing on that.
- 7:05Speaker 2: That's absolutely fine.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Because Bo Nix reverted to bad Auburn Bo Nix.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I want nothing to do with this right now. Not
- 7:12Speaker 2: Oregon Bo Nix. Not Oregon Bo Nix. I think the
- 7:14Speaker 2: defense will get much better. I think they start off
- 7:16Speaker 2: a little.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Wait, are you bailing or unbailing?
- 7:18Speaker 2: I'm bailing. I'm full bailing. Full bail.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Okay, before today's show is done, you have to pick
- 7:23Speaker 4: your replacement AFC team.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Okay, I think.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Do you want to save it for the final segment?
- 7:27Speaker 2: I'll save it. But am I allowed to do this?
- 7:30Speaker 2: I think the audience is not going to accept it.
- 7:31Speaker 4: New show, new rules, NBC's in my ear saying you
- 7:34Speaker 4: are allowed to do this.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Who at NBC? I don't know. Was it Tirico? Was
- 7:37Speaker 2: it Collinsworth?
- 7:38Speaker 4: They watch. All right, let's get to it. Week one
- 7:41Speaker 4: in the NFL is over, and there are some quarterback
- 7:44Speaker 4: situations already. Not benched for play, but benched for other reasons.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Let's start with Drew Locke filling in for Sam Darnold.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Sam Darnold has a soft tissue injury, which none of
- 7:52Speaker 4: us understand. Is it his hip?
- 7:55Speaker 2: Is it his glute?
- 7:55Speaker 4: Nobody really knows. But he's out for an unspecified amount
- 7:59Speaker 4: of time, and another report said he's out for a
- 8:01Speaker 4: few weeks. Perloff, you're the semantics guy.
- 8:03Speaker 2: What does a few weeks mean? A few means three.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Not two to three? No.
- 8:08Speaker 3: A few means three, but are they saying he's coming
- 8:11Speaker 3: back if we really need him?
- 8:13Speaker 2: I know San Francisco is on the schedule soon. If
- 8:16Speaker 2: they have an easy game, then he's out.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Let's pin down a few. I think a few could
- 8:20Speaker 4: be two to three. A couple obviously only means two.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 3: A couple is definitely two. But these injuries, especially if
- 8:26Speaker 3: you can't specify the injury, if you're not even giving
- 8:28Speaker 3: me a body part, Paul, how are we going to
- 8:30Speaker 3: define a few?
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Give me a body part and give me a number
- 8:33Speaker 4: of weeks. Can we help a brother out? What about
- 8:35Speaker 4: can a few be four weeks or is that extended
- 8:37Speaker 4: period of time?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Oh, well, then people are going to be nervous. More importantly,
- 8:41Speaker 3: look at the schedule. Instead of arguing about wording here.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Is this schedule-based?
- 8:45Speaker 2: I think so.
- 8:46Speaker 3: At Arizona, it might be tougher than you think. But
- 8:48Speaker 3: at Washington, you don't need him for that game. That
- 8:50Speaker 3: Seattle defense can win that game single-handedly. Then the Chargers,
- 8:54Speaker 3: it's a San Francisco game because that's a divisional game.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It means more in the standings. I think Darnold will
- 8:58Speaker 2: definitely be backed by that.
- 9:00Speaker 4: So you're looking at the Seahawks right now saying, Drew
- 9:02Speaker 4: Locke played pretty well last week. He's got a lot
- 9:04Speaker 4: in the tank. He has a whole week to get
- 9:06Speaker 4: first-team reps. Let him play out a week or two.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Remember back in the day, they used to do this
- 9:10Speaker 4: with Steph Curry, and they wouldn't bring him back until
- 9:12Speaker 4: they lost a game in a series. This might be
- 9:14Speaker 4: one of those type of situations.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Oh, I mean, Drew Locke was fine last week, and
- 9:19Speaker 3: the commanders did not look good. That's a perfect example
- 9:21Speaker 3: where Seattle can play conservative.
- 9:23Speaker 4: All right, next quarterback situation. There's Drew Locke just nailing
- 9:26Speaker 4: one to Cooper Cup.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Drew Locke, you know, I'm a big backup quarterback guy.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Nice arm.
- 9:30Speaker 3: He's got a better arm than half the starters in
- 9:32Speaker 3: the league. He just gets a little flustered.
- 9:35Speaker 4: And the defense will keep them in any game. All right,
- 9:36Speaker 4: let's get to the next quarterback situation. This one is
- 9:39Speaker 4: Carson Wentz in Minnesota. Kyler Murray is in the protocol,
- 9:42Speaker 4: as we know. He threw a pick in his first pass.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Here's the situation, I think, what's going to happen with
- 9:47Speaker 4: Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz, three touchdowns to beat the Packers.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Played well.
- 9:51Speaker 4: There's Kyler Murray, unfortunately, hurt. But Carson Wentz is a
- 9:56Speaker 4: known quantity. He's had some good years in the NFL before,
- 9:59Speaker 4: and he's kind of a high.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Backup.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I wonder if the Vikings look at this situation, and
- 10:02Speaker 4: more so, the Viking fans say, this might be preferable.
- 10:06Speaker 4: A veteran guy like Carson Wentz who can do the
- 10:09Speaker 4: right things and just deliver ball to Justin Jefferson. He's
- 10:12Speaker 4: going against a below-average defense in the Bears next week.
- 10:15Speaker 4: If Carson Wentz plays well and they somehow steal a
- 10:17Speaker 4: win from the Bears... Could he hold that job for
- 10:20Speaker 4: a while?
- 10:20Speaker 3: Well, I think so, because Kyler Murray is on the
- 10:22Speaker 3: league minimum.
- 10:23Speaker 2: It's not like they invested anything in him.
- 10:24Speaker 4: They don't have anything. Most of the money is going
- 10:26Speaker 4: to J.J. McCarthy.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and they don't really even know what they have
- 10:29Speaker 3: with Kyler Murray. I think Wentz could win this job. Now,
- 10:31Speaker 3: Wentz struggled a little bit last year. He came in
- 10:33Speaker 3: red hot when he got in for the Vikings, then
- 10:36Speaker 3: he fell apart. But I think with an offseason and
- 10:39Speaker 3: getting healthier, Wentz could be really good here.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Obviously really good on Sunday. Wentz is funny. He sometimes
- 10:45Speaker 2: has a couple good games, then he gets loose. But
- 10:47Speaker 2: I think it's a really well-coached team. I think Justin
- 10:50Speaker 2: Jefferson's on a mission. And you said this on Monday.
- 10:53Speaker 2: What was the key to Wentz's success?
- 10:55Speaker 4: Targeting.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Targeting Justin Jefferson every game. I think this could work.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I mean, is it a great team with Carson Wentz?
- 11:01Speaker 2: Maybe not. But you didn't know what you had with
- 11:03Speaker 2: Kyler Murray.
- 11:03Speaker 4: You know, it could be one of those situations where
- 11:05Speaker 4: if he wins this weekend, and they just let him
- 11:07Speaker 4: play out until he loses, and they could use abundance
- 11:09Speaker 4: of caution with Kyler Murray.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Right, and you know, we were talking about 90s and
- 11:13Speaker 2: 2000s NFL history.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Same thing happened with Randall Cunningham in 98, Jeff George,
- 11:18Speaker 3: my guy Case Keenum, Warren Moon. The Vikings have this
- 11:21Speaker 3: knack for bringing up guys out of nowhere who have
- 11:24Speaker 3: good seasons.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, no one expected Sam Darnold to do what
- 11:27Speaker 2: he did.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Alright, before we break, some warm takes coming up, but
- 11:29Speaker 4: The other quarterback situation is Atlanta, and it's a situation
- 11:33Speaker 4: where there's maybe no right answer. Cooper Rush played last week.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Pennix is not 100%. Tua's got a back thing, and
- 11:40Speaker 4: they have given no update on this. Is there any
- 11:43Speaker 4: upside to this situation?
- 11:44Speaker 2: No.
- 11:44Speaker 3: In fact, you might be getting into a tank mode
- 11:46Speaker 3: if you're Atlanta.
- 11:47Speaker 6: Oh.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Because that offense did nothing. I mean, B.
- 11:49Speaker 3: John Robinson was awesome, but he was the entire offense.
- 11:52Speaker 3: So I don't know if they really want good quarterbacking.
- 11:56Speaker 4: You might be quarterbacking them in a couple weeks.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not sure Michael Penix has the health to
- 12:00Speaker 3: be a long-term starter.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Jeez.
- 12:02Speaker 3: All right, coming up next, Ohio State obviously fell in
- 12:05Speaker 3: the rankings.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I have a major, major problem with the way the
- 12:09Speaker 2: AP did this. We'll get to that next. Not so fast.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Here we go, Pearl. Midday pick-me-up just for you. Actually,
- 12:18Speaker 4: just for DP.
- 12:19Speaker 2: He's a Reds guy.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Ellie De La Cruz. When you were a kid and
- 12:22Speaker 4: you went to the local ballpark, someone put one out.
- 12:24Speaker 4: They called it Parking One. Ellie De La Cruz parked
- 12:27Speaker 4: one out of the ballpark.
- 12:29Speaker 3: What's that line in the movie Major League? What park
- 12:32Speaker 3: did that leave? Like a national park? That would have
- 12:34Speaker 3: gone out of Rushmore. I mean out of Yellowstone.
- 12:37Speaker 2: That was crazy.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Too far. Too far.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Too far.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Great hit by L.A.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Dealer Cruz.
- 12:41Speaker 4: All right, it's time. Monday Night Football, we'll talk more
- 12:44Speaker 4: about that in a little bit. It's time for warm takes.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Some nice cozy ones to get you ready for the
- 12:48Speaker 4: nice Tuesday.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I will go first, Pearl.
- 12:50Speaker 4: I've been banging the drum on this one for a while.
- 12:52Speaker 4: There's time for a new stat in football, both college
- 12:55Speaker 4: and pro. RCI, Receiver Caused Interception. Happened maybe to Arch
- 13:00Speaker 4: Manning the other day, but happens a couple times a weekend.
- 13:03Speaker 4: So let's say a running back is out in the
- 13:04Speaker 4: flat or a wide receiver is out in the flat.
- 13:05Speaker 4: He gets hit right in the hands, right in the
- 13:08Speaker 4: numbers with a ball. It pops out and gets intercepted.
- 13:11Speaker 4: That goes on the tally for the quarterback, and it
- 13:13Speaker 4: goes at the end of the season. He had this
- 13:14Speaker 4: many interceptions. Why not put that blame on the receiver
- 13:18Speaker 4: who let it hit right off his hands, a catchable ball,
- 13:20Speaker 4: and go out? If it hit him in the hands
- 13:22Speaker 4: and it hit the turf, he would get dinged and
- 13:24Speaker 4: be caused a drop. A drop is an official NFL stat.
- 13:27Speaker 4: This is just like that. R-C-I, receiver-caused interception. Look at
- 13:31Speaker 4: other sports. Baseball, it's either a wild pitch or a
- 13:34Speaker 4: passed ball, and that's judging, giving a judgment to something
- 13:37Speaker 4: and assigning blame. We love to assign blame. If you
- 13:40Speaker 4: look at other things in baseball, error or hit, you
- 13:43Speaker 4: judge whether it should have been an error or a hit.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I think this is a really easy one for the
- 13:46Speaker 4: score people to do in the NFL or college football.
- 13:49Speaker 4: It hits the receiver in the hands, pops off, gets
- 13:52Speaker 4: an interception. It's an R-C-I. I'm going to throw this
- 13:55Speaker 4: out to the Manning brothers. Mannings, you're quarterbacks. You love
- 13:58Speaker 4: shifting blame to the receivers. R-C-I, this is the year
- 14:01Speaker 4: to make it happen. Pearl, your thoughts.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Who's going to judge whether it's a little, what if
- 14:05Speaker 3: it's a little bit behind him, or what if the
- 14:07Speaker 3: pass has too much zip on it? You know, that
- 14:09Speaker 3: could be on the quarterback just a little bit.
- 14:11Speaker 4: So it's in between. But you know it when you
- 14:13Speaker 4: see it. If it hits a guy right in the hands,
- 14:15Speaker 4: and he's in the flat, and he goes, whoop, whoop,
- 14:17Speaker 4: and gets picked off, that is not on the quarterback.
- 14:19Speaker 4: You hear him say that?
- 14:21Speaker 2: R-C-I.
- 14:21Speaker 3: How about last night Patrick Mahomes threw an interception because
- 14:24Speaker 3: Xavier Worthy ran the wrong route or there was a miscommunication?
- 14:27Speaker 2: Is that an RCI?
- 14:29Speaker 4: I think that's harder for the people to judge us
- 14:31Speaker 4: to judge.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Wrong route RCI?
- 14:34Speaker 4: Wrong route. That's a little wordy. RCI is nice and simple. RCI,
- 14:38Speaker 4: let's make it happen.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, these things in the NFL like that are always
- 14:40Speaker 2: so simple.
- 14:41Speaker 4: We need more stats and more judgment.
- 14:44Speaker 2: All right, I'm going to go back to last night.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Chiefs coach Andy Reid is now 48 wins away from
- 14:49Speaker 3: tying Don Chula for the most wins ever by a coach.
- 14:52Speaker 3: And he is getting close, 22 wins behind Bill Belichick. Paul,
- 14:57Speaker 3: everyone thinks Belichick is the greatest modern era coach. I
- 15:00Speaker 3: got to tell you, that debate is not over.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Far, far from it.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I think Andy Reid has a chance to go up
- 15:07Speaker 3: on the ladder and overtake Belichick as the best coach
- 15:10Speaker 3: in modern NFL history. Now, the only reason that people
- 15:13Speaker 3: don't consider him like that is the fact that he's
- 15:16Speaker 3: this big, jolly guy.
- 15:17Speaker 2: You know what?
- 15:17Speaker 3: He's a killer, and he will change his style if
- 15:20Speaker 3: he needs to to get wins. He used to be
- 15:21Speaker 3: high-flying with Mahomes. Now they redefine themselves as an under-center
- 15:25Speaker 3: run game. Who saw that coming? I think he is
- 15:29Speaker 3: more innovative than most coaches have ever been, and I
- 15:32Speaker 3: think we underrate him.
- 15:33Speaker 2: He's also great with personalities.
- 15:34Speaker 3: He can take a guy like Rasheed Rice, who's had
- 15:36Speaker 3: a lot of problems, and make him.
- 15:38Speaker 2: A productive NFL player.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I think Andy Reid is the full package, and I
- 15:42Speaker 3: still think we underrate him.
- 15:43Speaker 4: You know, I'm going to co-sign on this warm take
- 15:45Speaker 4: by you because I think you have some traction here.
- 15:47Speaker 4: I think Andy Reid needs two more Super Bowl wins.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Then he's right there in the conversation.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Two more Super Bowl wins?
- 15:53Speaker 5: That's a lot.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Two more for him with Mahomes. It should be almost expected.
- 15:57Speaker 4: I will say this. If you look at the Hall
- 15:59Speaker 4: of Fame vote last year that they didn't put Belichick in,
- 16:02Speaker 4: that shows what a lot of people think of Bill Belichick.
- 16:04Speaker 4: And I think if it's a likability contest and it's
- 16:07Speaker 4: close to the hole, Andy Reid's going to get a
- 16:08Speaker 4: lot of votes in the greatest coach of all time category.
- 16:11Speaker 4: He'll be in that echelon. He'll be Shula and he'll be,
- 16:14Speaker 4: you know, Belichick, of course, but Andy Reid, you're right,
- 16:17Speaker 4: he doesn't get credit because he's that lovable big guy.
- 16:20Speaker 4: He's still doing the job.
- 16:21Speaker 3: There's a new commercial, I think it's State Farm, where
- 16:23Speaker 3: he's sort of being out of breath and he's playing
- 16:26Speaker 3: into the character, but the reality is his football coach
- 16:29Speaker 3: mentality is nothing like that character.
- 16:31Speaker 2: He's a total killer.
- 16:33Speaker 3: He's 68 and Belichick's 74. Now, it doesn't look like
- 16:36Speaker 3: Belichick's getting back, so I think Reid gets more wins.
- 16:38Speaker 4: All right, bonus coverage. Never forget the Halloween where Andrew
- 16:41Speaker 4: Perloff went as young Andy Reid in the punt, pass,
- 16:43Speaker 4: and kick contest. We'll have that for you later in
- 16:46Speaker 4: the show, or maybe tomorrow, one of your all-time Halloween uniforms.
- 16:49Speaker 4: All right, my next warm take, here we go. Here
- 16:53Speaker 4: we go, Steve Ballmer, LA Clippers owner. This is a
- 16:56Speaker 4: nice move by you. You announced that you're sorry and
- 16:58Speaker 4: have regrets, and you thank the NBA and your contrite
- 17:01Speaker 4: and like to move on. You issued that statement at
- 17:04Speaker 4: 11 p.m. on a Sunday night. 11 p.m., Sunday night
- 17:07Speaker 4: of the first NFL weekend. That is a great place
- 17:10Speaker 4: for stories to hide, and that is totally on purpose
- 17:12Speaker 4: by you and your PR department. Here's the statement. I
- 17:15Speaker 4: have sincere regrets. I want to apologize to our fans, employees,
- 17:18Speaker 4: and my fellow NBA team owners for the distraction and
- 17:20Speaker 4: distress that my matter caused. You can say the word cheating.
- 17:23Speaker 4: For which I accept responsibility as principal owner. We're committed
- 17:26Speaker 4: to putting this chapter behind us. Of course you are.
- 17:28Speaker 4: We have communicated to the NBA that we're complying with
- 17:31Speaker 4: the penalties assessed. This is not where I want our
- 17:33Speaker 4: team to focus. The owners should support, not distract. Well,
- 17:37Speaker 4: that's really interesting because a year ago you said you
- 17:40Speaker 4: had nothing to do with this and there was no
- 17:41Speaker 4: truth to allegations. And a month and a half ago
- 17:44Speaker 4: when the NBA report came out and Pablo Torre put
- 17:46Speaker 4: the final hammer down on you, you said, no, this
- 17:49Speaker 4: is completely wrong and we stand by our complete denial.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Why the flip-flop here? You know, my guess is this
- 17:54Speaker 4: is PR 101. You're trying to play to the NBA
- 17:58Speaker 4: and try to mitigate the punishment for your team. Maybe
- 18:01Speaker 4: one less draft pick or one fewer draft pick taken
- 18:03Speaker 4: away or maybe my suspension is cut in half. But
- 18:05Speaker 4: I'll tell you, it's too little too late. And the
- 18:07Speaker 4: only good thing for you, Steve Ballmer, is you don't
- 18:09Speaker 4: have to watch Clipper basketball this year because it's going
- 18:11Speaker 4: to be brutal.
- 18:12Speaker 3: My reaction to the bomber mess is I'm a Sixers fan.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Let's take advantage of the Clippers because they're going to
- 18:18Speaker 3: be in desperation mode for the next five years and
- 18:20Speaker 3: it's their own fault. I don't like anything he's doing,
- 18:23Speaker 3: although he did build an arena with the most bathrooms
- 18:25Speaker 3: of any indoor arena.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Which is very friendly to older people who have to
- 18:28Speaker 4: use the bathroom.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually want to check out the urinal situation.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll use the bathroom. I just want to watch
- 18:33Speaker 4: the team play.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I agree with you, and it's ridiculous. He
- 18:37Speaker 3: was so strong in denying this whole thing, and then
- 18:40Speaker 3: he just gave up the fight.
- 18:41Speaker 6: Beep, beep, beep.
- 18:42Speaker 2: The backpedal.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Okay, I'm going to go to college football for my
- 18:45Speaker 3: second warm take. Obviously, Ohio State lost to Texas, so
- 18:49Speaker 3: you'd expect them to fall in the polls. They fell
- 18:51Speaker 3: from number one to number six in the AP poll.
- 18:54Speaker 3: But Paul, I'm not sure that should have happened. First
- 18:56Speaker 3: of all, they played very well for most of the game.
- 18:59Speaker 3: But the teams that advanced past them did nothing. Georgia
- 19:02Speaker 3: beat Western Kentucky 70-20. Indiana beat Howard 55-0. Notre Dame
- 19:08Speaker 3: beat Rice 52-0. And Miami beat Florida A & M 77-7.
- 19:11Speaker 3: To me, those wins are not impressive at all. And,
- 19:15Speaker 3: of course, the AP did drop Ohio State. But to
- 19:17Speaker 3: drop them to six sets a precedent where now Ohio
- 19:20Speaker 3: State is going down. to suffer because they scheduled Texas.
- 19:25Speaker 3: So in the future, Ohio State is not going to
- 19:27Speaker 3: want to schedule Texas.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So what do we have?
- 19:29Speaker 3: We have very few good September games because the voters,
- 19:33Speaker 3: I know that the AP is different than the CFP,
- 19:35Speaker 3: but the voters.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Eventually will count that loss against them. And that is
- 19:39Speaker 2: my major problem with college football right now, and I
- 19:41Speaker 2: think that's why we have such a weak schedule.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Ohio State, awful fourth quarter, but they
- 19:46Speaker 4: scheduled big, they put together a good fight, and they
- 19:49Speaker 4: almost took down Texas. I mean, it was that close,
- 19:51Speaker 4: a play or two away, and they closed that game out,
- 19:53Speaker 4: and they're getting dinged. Miami played FAMU and could have
- 19:56Speaker 4: scored 100.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, any of these games.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Western Kentucky, why do you get credit for blowing out
- 20:01Speaker 3: a team that you're basically paying to show up?
- 20:03Speaker 4: I think this is a two-lane argument because the coach's
- 20:06Speaker 4: poll really has nothing to do with the end of
- 20:08Speaker 4: the season in the college football committee. I think the
- 20:10Speaker 4: college football committee at the end of the season will
- 20:12Speaker 4: give Ohio State bonus points.
- 20:14Speaker 3: They did not do that last year with Texas. Texas
- 20:17Speaker 3: had three losses, and the third loss was to Ohio State.
- 20:20Speaker 3: They would have gotten in with two losses.
- 20:21Speaker 4: I hope they take that off. I hope when you
- 20:23Speaker 4: play Rice or you play FAMU or you play Howard,
- 20:27Speaker 4: second game of the season, which is a payout game,
- 20:29Speaker 4: You don't get any credit for that win. Almost take
- 20:31Speaker 4: it off your docket.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and Miami has that whole schedule is basically that game.
- 20:35Speaker 2: ACC is weak.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Stanford looked like FAMU in week one against Miami. So
- 20:40Speaker 3: Miami is going to cruise into the playoff. They might
- 20:43Speaker 3: lose to Notre Dame, but even if they do, they're
- 20:45Speaker 3: going to be fine.
- 20:46Speaker 4: All right, speaking of two guys who need a win,
- 20:48Speaker 4: it's us two. We're basically 0-4. I think you got
- 20:50Speaker 4: three-quarters of a point in our fun, fun game. You
- 20:53Speaker 4: can play at home, you kids. It's called Who Said It?
- 20:55Speaker 4: NFL related, baseball related, college football related. Who said this?
- 21:00Speaker 4: He wants me to be who I am. He wants
- 21:02Speaker 4: me to be confident. Be me. And continue to be
- 21:04Speaker 4: me because when I'm me, I'm able to be like
- 21:07Speaker 4: that on the field. If they try to take that
- 21:10Speaker 4: away from me. Okay, I got this one. I'm calling
- 21:12Speaker 4: my shot Larry Bird style. This is Jackson Dart about
- 21:16Speaker 4: John Harbaugh.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Oh, it's so good. I would say Mahomes.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Do you want on this one?
- 21:23Speaker 2: No, I'm going to say Patrick Mahomes on Andy Reid.
- 21:26Speaker 2: That's a good call, too. Here we go.
- 21:28Speaker 4: He wants me to be who I am.
- 21:29Speaker 7: He wants me to be confident, be me, and continue
- 21:32Speaker 7: to be me because when I'm me, I'm able to
- 21:35Speaker 7: be like that on the field. And if they try
- 21:37Speaker 7: to take me out of who I am, they know
- 21:39Speaker 7: that you might not get the full me.
- 21:41Speaker 4: That is first-team all-bro Cam Scadaboo. Talk about John Harbaugh.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Do I get a half a point?
- 21:46Speaker 2: You get three-quarters of a point. That was very close.
- 21:49Speaker 2: We're going to get one of these eventually, Paul.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Eventually, but three-quarters to three-quarters, that's who said it.
- 21:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Coming up next, oh, this is bonus coverage. Chiefs writer
- 21:57Speaker 4: Carrington Harrison. Talk about the Chiefs. All good news there,
- 22:01Speaker 4: or was it? We'll find out next. Stick around. This
- 22:03Speaker 4: is Not So Fast.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Welcome back to Not So Fast. NBC Sports Now. I'm Peacock.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I'm Perloff. He's Paps. Now, every week we give out
- 22:13Speaker 2: helmet stickers.
- 22:13Speaker 4: And players are very excited about this.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I had a hard time. I obviously wanted to
- 22:17Speaker 3: go with the Chiefs after last night's game. and there
- 22:20Speaker 3: are about eight of them I wanted to give out,
- 22:21Speaker 3: but we can only give out one.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Why don't you go first?
- 22:23Speaker 4: I'm going to go first. I'm going to go George Karloftis.
- 22:25Speaker 4: He's one of those guys that most people don't know.
- 22:27Speaker 4: He's a very good defensive end for the past six
- 22:29Speaker 4: years out of Purdue for the Chiefs. He's one of
- 22:31Speaker 4: the constants. Chris Jones is a star. Remember, Honey Badger
- 22:34Speaker 4: years ago was a star. There's stars all over the offense.
- 22:37Speaker 4: George Karloftis, meat and potatoes, lunch pail guy, first man in,
- 22:41Speaker 4: last man out, all the cliches, gritty and gutty. Karloftis,
- 22:44Speaker 4: helmet sticker for you, buddy.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Okay, I'm going to actually stay on defense, and I'm
- 22:47Speaker 3: going with rookie pass rusher R. Mason Thomas, who had
- 22:51Speaker 3: a big sack and was kind of awesome all night long,
- 22:53Speaker 3: second-round pick. But here's why I picked him, Paul. I
- 22:55Speaker 3: thought you would like this. What does the R stand for,
- 22:58Speaker 3: you might ask? Apparently, his mother's family had a tradition
- 23:01Speaker 3: of names beginning with the letter R, but she preferred
- 23:04Speaker 3: the name Mason, so they just stuck the R in
- 23:06Speaker 3: front of it.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Now he's R. Mason Taylor.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Does the R mean nothing?
- 23:09Speaker 2: The R means nothing, according to my research.
- 23:11Speaker 4: How about rushing, because he's a pass rusher?
- 23:13Speaker 2: That would be P.R., All right. Well, we need an expert, obviously,
- 23:17Speaker 2: on this one.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Let's go to Carrington Harrison, of course, hosts the drive
- 23:22Speaker 3: with Carrington Harrison, 96.5 The Fan in Kansas City.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Carrington, congratulations on the win last night. Were you aware
- 23:29Speaker 2: of the R. Mason Taylor story coming into the season?
- 23:33Speaker 8: Yeah, I actually was aware of this story, so I'm
- 23:36Speaker 8: happy that you guys are sharing it for people. I
- 23:38Speaker 8: actually want to ask you guys a question. I'm going
- 23:40Speaker 8: to now put a question on you guys. Tom Cruise
- 23:43Speaker 8: was at the game yesterday. He was sitting in the
- 23:45Speaker 8: suite with Taylor Swift. When you see Tom Cruise, is
- 23:49Speaker 8: he Maverick from Top Gun or is he Ethan Hunt
- 23:51Speaker 8: from Mission Impossible?
- 23:52Speaker 4: I'm going to go off the board here. He's Steph
- 23:54Speaker 4: Georgievich from Empire Football. All the right moves. One of
- 23:58Speaker 4: my favorite underrated football movies. He's Steph Georgievich, hard-hitting defensive back.
- 24:02Speaker 5: Okay, wow. You went real off the grid there.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yes.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I just most recently watched the Top Gun sequel where
- 24:08Speaker 3: he looks exactly like that.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So I'm going Top Gun. Carrington, how about you?
- 24:14Speaker 8: I think he's Maverick from Top Gun. When I went
- 24:16Speaker 8: to go see, well, at first, so this was a
- 24:18Speaker 8: couple years ago. I live in Kansas City. So every June,
- 24:21Speaker 8: the Royals are completely out of it. So we have
- 24:23Speaker 8: to find some way to entertain ourselves. So one summer
- 24:26Speaker 8: I watched an 80s movie every day that I had
- 24:28Speaker 8: never seen before. So I had never seen Top Gun.
- 24:31Speaker 8: So when Goose dies, it blew my mind. This was
- 24:33Speaker 8: the plot twist. I wasn't expecting.
- 24:35Speaker 5: I was like, oh, my goodness.
- 24:37Speaker 8: So when I went to go see Top Gun Maverick,
- 24:39Speaker 8: I'm telling you, I was blown away. I had never
- 24:41Speaker 8: seen anything like it before. So he's Maverick to me.
- 24:44Speaker 2: All right. All right, Carrington.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Obviously, the football game as well as Tom Cruise and
- 24:48Speaker 3: Taylor Swift being there.
- 24:49Speaker 2: How surprised were you that the Chiefs rolled like that?
- 24:53Speaker 8: I mean, I was just surprised more so defensively than offensively.
- 24:58Speaker 8: I expected Kenneth Walker to have a good day. I
- 25:00Speaker 8: expected the Chiefs to be committed to running the football
- 25:02Speaker 8: with Kenneth Walker.
- 25:03Speaker 5: What I was not.
- 25:04Speaker 8: Expecting for was for Jalen Waddell to be in witness protection.
- 25:08Speaker 8: What I was not expecting to get absolutely nothing from
- 25:10Speaker 8: Cortland Sutton. If you add those two guys, three catches
- 25:14Speaker 8: for 14 yards on eight targets. The Broncos, outside of
- 25:18Speaker 8: the second drive of the season, did very little offensively.
- 25:22Speaker 5: So as much of the praise is going to go.
- 25:24Speaker 8: To Kenneth Walker, and it should be for the day
- 25:26Speaker 8: that he had, a lot of praise needs to go
- 25:28Speaker 8: to that defense.
- 25:29Speaker 4: You know, Carrington, I want to ask you about the Chiefs'
- 25:31Speaker 4: history with the running back position. Back in the day,
- 25:33Speaker 4: they didn't spend a lot of money on Isaiah Pacheco's
- 25:35Speaker 4: seventh-round pick. They did try to pick up Clyde Edwards-Hilaire
- 25:38Speaker 4: in that draft, that late first-round pick. But now they
- 25:41Speaker 4: have some funds to play with. Their wide receivers are
- 25:44Speaker 4: not that expensive. Kelsey is not as expensive. And they
- 25:47Speaker 4: parked some money in Kenneth Walker. This is one of
- 25:50Speaker 4: the bigger moves, I think, in the recent history of
- 25:51Speaker 4: the franchise. Can you see them becoming a run-first team
- 25:55Speaker 4: long-term more so than just last night?
- 25:57Speaker 8: I mean, I think at least early in the first
- 25:59Speaker 8: part of the season, I thought Mahomes looked a little
- 26:01Speaker 8: bit off from an accuracy standpoint. I still think the
- 26:04Speaker 8: Chiefs have wide receiver issues. I know that it's a
- 26:06Speaker 8: lot about Keith Walker today. I'm still not a believer
- 26:09Speaker 8: in Xavier Worthy, and you need Rasheed Rice to be
- 26:12Speaker 8: a more consistent threat.
- 26:14Speaker 5: But I think this is just around the league.
- 26:16Speaker 8: One of my frustrations covering the Chiefs the last couple
- 26:19Speaker 8: of years is I thought they were trying to play
- 26:20Speaker 8: offense with one arm tied behind their back. Think of
- 26:22Speaker 8: any team that you guys think can win the Super Bowl.
- 26:25Speaker 8: Every team that you think can win the Super Bowl
- 26:27Speaker 8: can run the football effectively. The Chiefs just haven't been
- 26:30Speaker 8: able to run the football. So I think, if anything,
- 26:32Speaker 8: this is just a return to normalcy, and the Chiefs
- 26:34Speaker 8: are just catching up with the rest of the league
- 26:36Speaker 8: by being able to run the football.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Kerry, who did you pick out of the AFC to
- 26:40Speaker 2: get to the Super Bowl?
- 26:42Speaker 5: I actually really liked the Broncos coming into it.
- 26:44Speaker 8: And it's funny because you know how week one, everybody
- 26:47Speaker 8: now has an overreaction. You know, we all love the
- 26:49Speaker 8: Rams coming into the season. Now you look at their
- 26:52Speaker 8: schedule and I don't know about it. Now you look
- 26:54Speaker 8: at Denver's schedule after how they looked offensively. Man, I
- 26:57Speaker 8: could wake up and the Broncos could be two and four.
- 26:59Speaker 8: You're putting up your Halloween decoration. You're wondering what went
- 27:02Speaker 8: wrong this season for the Broncos. So, yeah, I love
- 27:05Speaker 8: Denver coming into the game. Seeing how they performed offensively,
- 27:08Speaker 8: I got questions about that team.
- 27:09Speaker 4: You know, Carrington, you mentioned people who bail after week one.
- 27:12Speaker 4: It just happened minutes ago and not so fast. My
- 27:14Speaker 4: guy Pearl right here, he had the Broncos winning the
- 27:16Speaker 4: Super Bowl an hour ago, and I offered him the
- 27:19Speaker 4: chance to bail, and he took it. He took it.
- 27:22Speaker 8: I completely understand. I mean, it was just losing to
- 27:25Speaker 8: the Chiefs is one thing. There's no shame in going
- 27:28Speaker 8: on the road and losing at Arrowhead. It was kind
- 27:30Speaker 8: of how they lost. And my biggest takeaway, at least
- 27:33Speaker 8: in the AFC, is it feels like nature is healing
- 27:35Speaker 8: a little bit, where Cincinnati was really good in week one.
- 27:38Speaker 8: Buffalo was really good in week one. Baltimore was really good.
- 27:41Speaker 8: A lot of the teams that we thought were going
- 27:43Speaker 8: to be good last season who kind of took a
- 27:46Speaker 8: step back, they're all good, and they're back to kind
- 27:48Speaker 8: of where they're supposed to be. where Denver's still got
- 27:51Speaker 8: to prove it to you. New England still has to
- 27:52Speaker 8: prove it to you. I don't really know what to
- 27:54Speaker 8: do with Jacksonville because they didn't play an actual NFL
- 27:57Speaker 8: team in Week 1, but all the other teams that
- 27:59Speaker 8: played NFL teams in Week 1 looked impressive.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Well, what about the Chiefs? I mean, I actually get
- 28:05Speaker 3: to pick a new Super Bowl winner. Paul's letting me.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I've got to be honest. I think KC's in the mix.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Is that a safe pick?
- 28:14Speaker 4: Really gutsy.
- 28:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, at least with Kansas City where I
- 28:18Speaker 8: am with them is, I think we're going to be
- 28:19Speaker 8: having a conversation in six weeks about the Chiefs need
- 28:22Speaker 8: to make a trade at wide receiver. I'm not a
- 28:24Speaker 8: believer in their passing game, and I understand Mahomes is
- 28:27Speaker 8: going to get better. I mean, we've been having the
- 28:29Speaker 8: same conversations for Xavier Worthy now going on for three years.
- 28:32Speaker 5: We're having these same conversations.
- 28:33Speaker 8: So I think that's ultimately going to be something that
- 28:36Speaker 8: they need to fix. I mean, I came into it
- 28:38Speaker 8: thinking that there were nine teams that were viable to
- 28:41Speaker 8: go to a Super Bowl out of the AFC. There's
- 28:43Speaker 8: now probably six or seven teams that you'd really like
- 28:45Speaker 8: to come out of the AFC. But it's really anybody's
- 28:48Speaker 8: race in that regard. But what I will say for
- 28:50Speaker 8: Kansas City is football hasn't changed. If you can run
- 28:53Speaker 8: the football effectively, if you can play defense the way
- 28:56Speaker 8: that Kansas City did, you can beat just about anybody
- 28:58Speaker 8: in the league.
- 28:58Speaker 5: That's how they dominated Denver.
- 29:00Speaker 8: They were A-plus in running the football, and they did
- 29:03Speaker 8: a great job really limiting any offensive weapon that the
- 29:06Speaker 8: Broncos had.
- 29:07Speaker 4: All right, Carrington, before we let you go, we'd like
- 29:08Speaker 4: to do a thing here at Not So Fast called
- 29:10Speaker 4: Such Thing is a Dumb Question. You're a journalist. There's
- 29:12Speaker 4: not so much a dumb question coming out of you,
- 29:15Speaker 4: more out of us. If you were in the press
- 29:16Speaker 4: box last night, which I think you were, let's say
- 29:18Speaker 4: you were in the press box, sweet box last night,
- 29:20Speaker 4: and you're waiting for a bathroom, and all of a
- 29:22Speaker 4: sudden behind you in the little line, hypothetical, up walks
- 29:25Speaker 4: Tom Cruise. Two parts. Do you let Tom Cruise go
- 29:28Speaker 4: to the bathroom first for whatever reason, or can you
- 29:31Speaker 4: strike up a conversation in any way with Tom Cruise?
- 29:34Speaker 8: I was not in the press box. I actually had
- 29:36Speaker 8: regular tickets yesterday. So I was just a regular fan
- 29:38Speaker 8: watching the game. I would absolutely let Tom Cruise. Well,
- 29:42Speaker 8: I guess let me answer this. How bad do I
- 29:44Speaker 8: have to go?
- 29:45Speaker 4: A four out of ten. Like a four out of ten.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Then I'll let Tom go.
- 29:50Speaker 8: But, yeah, in exchange for that, Tom needs to be
- 29:54Speaker 8: willing to take a picture or at least answer a
- 29:57Speaker 8: couple of questions. I don't need to make it weird.
- 29:59Speaker 8: I don't need to make it awkward. But, Tom, I mean,
- 30:02Speaker 8: I'm letting you cut me in line. The least you
- 30:03Speaker 8: can do is take a quick selfie.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Fair enough.
- 30:06Speaker 2: All right, Kerry.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Well, hopefully we'll have good news coming out of KC
- 30:09Speaker 3: all season long if they get to receivers.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us. We'll talk to you soon, buddy.
- 30:14Speaker 8: Something tells me that if I'm on with you guys
- 30:16Speaker 8: prior to their game against Seattle, something went terribly wrong
- 30:19Speaker 8: for Kansas City.
- 30:20Speaker 5: They got Miami and Las Vegas coming up.
- 30:22Speaker 8: So if you guys hit me up and say, hey,
- 30:24Speaker 8: we want to talk, that means they lost to the Dolphins,
- 30:26Speaker 8: and we got a lot of problems to discuss.
- 30:28Speaker 2: All right. Talk to you soon. Thanks, Carrington.
- 30:30Speaker 5: Thanks, guys.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Carrington Harrison. I got to be honest, Paul.
- 30:34Speaker 3: If you really are giving me this mulligan— Kansas City
- 30:37Speaker 3: is very, very tempting.
- 30:38Speaker 4: You've got about 20 more minutes before you've got to
- 30:40Speaker 4: make your choice. All right, we're going to do a
- 30:42Speaker 4: thing every week here on Not So Fast. It's going
- 30:44Speaker 4: to be NFL Play of the Season. It's kind of
- 30:46Speaker 4: a knockout game. It's kind of a who had it first,
- 30:49Speaker 4: can you keep it for week to week. Week one,
- 30:52Speaker 4: let's see who's got it. It's T.J.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Watt. All right.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Here is play. He makes the Jefferson play. And here's
- 30:59Speaker 4: the thing. He wins it week one, but can he
- 31:02Speaker 4: hold it week two, three, and four and be kind
- 31:04Speaker 4: of king of the hill? of NFL play of the season.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Eats this one up, goes down, gets back up, gets
- 31:10Speaker 4: some blocking, and scores his first career NFL touchdown. That's
- 31:14Speaker 4: the play of the season so far in holding.
- 31:17Speaker 5: You know what?
- 31:17Speaker 2: The only reason, though, is because he's a defensive end.
- 31:19Speaker 2: And you don't expect them to be able to do
- 31:21Speaker 2: that kind of thing. No.
- 31:22Speaker 3: It's not a one-handed Odell Beckham Jr. catch, but for T.J. Watt,
- 31:26Speaker 3: this is spectacular.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Big, meaty Watt hands covered with tape. You think can't
- 31:29Speaker 4: catch that. He sure did.
- 31:30Speaker 3: So are you going to be watching everything next weekend
- 31:32Speaker 3: looking for a better play?
- 31:34Speaker 2: We all are.
- 31:35Speaker 4: All the not-so-fasters out there, you watch. Send them in
- 31:37Speaker 4: to us on Twitter. We'll put it on the show.
- 31:39Speaker 2: All right. That's awesome.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Coming up next, Dan Patrick makes another movie. We'll hear
- 31:44Speaker 3: from DP on what it was like on the latest
- 31:46Speaker 3: Sandler movie. Much more Not-So-Fast.
- 31:54Speaker 6: I had a one-day movie shoot in New Jersey with
- 31:57Speaker 6: Adam Sandler for Grown Ups 3. I went in with
- 32:00Speaker 6: only one line. As it turns out, I'm box office magic,
- 32:05Speaker 6: and Sandler gave me another line, and I'm sitting.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Wow.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:12Speaker 6: I'm sitting with Chris Rock for basically two hours. And
- 32:15Speaker 6: I think he's trying to use sports analogies to help
- 32:20Speaker 6: me understand things. He'd be like, oh, yeah, that'd be
- 32:24Speaker 6: like Jamarcus Russell with the Raiders.
- 32:26Speaker 2: And I'd go, oh, okay.
- 32:29Speaker 6: Everything was a sports analogy maybe to help me understand
- 32:34Speaker 6: something else.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Back on Not So Fast, Paxton Perloff here, NBC Sports Now, Peacock.
- 32:40Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 32:40Speaker 4: And now Dan's been on movie shoots before. I do
- 32:42Speaker 4: urge you to see Grown Ups 1 and 2 so
- 32:45Speaker 4: you won't be lost in the plot of Grown Ups 3.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Another fun day for DP hanging with the Sandman.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You know, that reminds me of way back, Miami Super Bowl.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Do you remember when Chris Rock, David Spade, and Kevin
- 32:56Speaker 3: James all came on the show together?
- 32:58Speaker 4: The first Grown Ups.
- 32:59Speaker 3: The first Grown Ups. And I remember Chris Rock really
- 33:02Speaker 3: wanted to talk sports with Dan.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good point. And that reminded me, we're
- 33:06Speaker 4: doing this. We were at the ESPN Zone years ago
- 33:09Speaker 4: doing the Dan Patrick show. And Chris Rock came by
- 33:11Speaker 4: with an entourage of PR people and movie people for
- 33:13Speaker 4: some movie he was doing. And he was supposed to
- 33:16Speaker 4: sit in with Dan for 15 minutes. 45 minutes later,
- 33:19Speaker 4: Chris Rock did not want to leave the studio. I'm
- 33:21Speaker 4: not going to ask Chris Rock to leave the studio.
- 33:23Speaker 4: He just wanted to talk New York sports. His PR
- 33:25Speaker 4: people are going berserk. They're like, he's got to go.
- 33:27Speaker 4: I'm like, you got to tell Chris.
- 33:28Speaker 2: And he knows a ton of sports. Yes. Spade, not
- 33:31Speaker 2: so much.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Not so much, but very, very snarky.
- 33:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Another guy who knows a lot about sports is our
- 33:35Speaker 4: buddy Nick Wright of FS1. He is a self-declared Chiefs guy. Fritzie,
- 33:41Speaker 4: not a Chiefs guy, a Broncos guy. So we had
- 33:42Speaker 4: Nick Wright on today. He came in hot.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Bo Nix!
- 33:49Speaker 2: Davis Webb!
- 33:51Speaker 8: John Payton already regretting firing himself from play calling.
- 33:57Speaker 5: Oh, Jalen Waddell.
- 33:59Speaker 4: You guys should trade for Jalen Waddell.
- 34:03Speaker 5: You should do something. Todd, would you like to respond?
- 34:06Speaker 2: All I'm going to say is part of the reason
- 34:07Speaker 2: why I booked Nick in advance is I was so
- 34:09Speaker 2: confident that Denver was going to win week one and
- 34:11Speaker 2: he was going to have to do something very opposite.
- 34:14Speaker 4: This is very funny because it's all true. Fritzie did
- 34:17Speaker 4: book Nick Wright for the High end or low end
- 34:20Speaker 4: of the booking. And it worked out very well.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Todd should have canceled.
- 34:23Speaker 3: He should have came up with an excuse saying we
- 34:24Speaker 3: were having technical difficulties.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Or called in sick.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Yeah, why would Todd open himself up to that? We
- 34:30Speaker 3: put crime tape over it because it was a homicide.
- 34:32Speaker 4: I will give Todd credit, though. He knows good content.
- 34:34Speaker 4: And the extreme of Nick Wright being booked on today's
- 34:36Speaker 4: show is good content.
- 34:37Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever seen a DP show guest
- 34:39Speaker 3: as happy as Nick Wright was to dunk on Todd today.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Yeah, Nick Wright had to move his schedule around. Nick
- 34:44Speaker 4: usually joins us on Mondays or Wednesdays. He told us
- 34:47Speaker 4: just because of the other things he does with his podcast.
- 34:49Speaker 4: He goes, I'm moving everything back to join you today.
- 34:52Speaker 3: You know, so you're a Bears fan. I'm an Eagles fan.
- 34:54Speaker 3: I think when we win, we're a little more muted
- 34:56Speaker 3: than that. I like that Nick just put it out there.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Like, yeah, I almost like when you win, you almost
- 35:00Speaker 4: like poo-poo it. Like it didn't happen. You don't want
- 35:02Speaker 4: to get too into it. Nick steps on the gas.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got three Super Bowl rings.
- 35:05Speaker 3: And he was saying, oh, Mahomes was texting me in
- 35:07Speaker 3: March with images of his rehab.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So Nick is on top of the world.
- 35:11Speaker 4: And I think they play again November 1st at the Broncos.
- 35:15Speaker 4: So that'll be a good running bet.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Awesome. You know a guy who always has a good soundbite.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin returns to Oxford this weekend as LSU takes
- 35:23Speaker 3: on Ole Miss. He talked about how he's been able
- 35:25Speaker 3: to handle all the hype around this game.
- 35:29Speaker 9: I told the players today, man, you don't have anything
- 35:32Speaker 9: to worry about as far as attention on you all
- 35:35Speaker 9: week and everything. There's just going to be so much attention, hatred,
- 35:38Speaker 9: everything on me. I said, you just get to go play.
- 35:41Speaker 9: And I said, really, the pressure's on them. They're the
- 35:44Speaker 9: team that We won seven games last year.
- 35:47Speaker 2: They won 13.
- 35:47Speaker 9: They returned two Heisman candidates. How often does that ever
- 35:53Speaker 9: happen in the same backfield? We had it one time
- 35:56Speaker 9: with Matt Leiner and Reggie Bush, and second longest winning
- 35:59Speaker 9: streak in the country. So you guys just get to
- 36:01Speaker 9: go play, and the pressure's not on you.
- 36:04Speaker 4: This is a classic coach move. Us against the world,
- 36:07Speaker 4: put it all on me, I'll take the heat. This
- 36:09Speaker 4: is a little faux by Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin made
- 36:12Speaker 4: his own bet. Nobody hates you. You're just bothered by
- 36:15Speaker 4: what you did in spurning Ole Miss and going to LSU.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Nobody hates you. But he's using it classic coach speak.
- 36:20Speaker 4: But don't play the victim role because you're not the victim.
- 36:22Speaker 4: You chose to take a big pay raise and go
- 36:24Speaker 4: to a different place in the SEC, but it's classic
- 36:27Speaker 4: talk to a bunch of 18- to 20-year-olds. Hey, guys,
- 36:30Speaker 4: they hate me. You guys go be my guys and
- 36:33Speaker 4: take them down because it's us against the world.
- 36:35Speaker 2: They hate Lane Kiffin in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 36:38Speaker 4: In Oxford?
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:40Speaker 3: But you're saying nationally. I'm not even sure that's true.
- 36:42Speaker 3: There are a lot of people who have a lot
- 36:43Speaker 3: of problems with Lane Kiffin.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Well, but I think people in Oxford, Mississippi also know
- 36:47Speaker 4: he got them to new heights. And I think an
- 36:49Speaker 4: educated football fan, and there's a lot of smart football
- 36:51Speaker 4: fans down in Mississippi who know it was a great
- 36:53Speaker 4: move to get Lane Kiffin. He upped your program for
- 36:55Speaker 4: two years and put you in position to be in position.
- 36:58Speaker 4: And they have Trinidad Chambliss and Ke'wan Lacy because of
- 37:02Speaker 4: what Lane Kiffin did, and they still had the benefits
- 37:04Speaker 4: of that.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Well, the thing to me is it's ridiculous to say
- 37:06Speaker 3: that the pressure's on Ole Miss.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Nobody's looking at this game.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I mean, yes, they do have Kiwan Lacey and Trinidad Chambliss,
- 37:12Speaker 3: but come on, LSU got the number one portal class,
- 37:15Speaker 3: and they blew out Clemson.
- 37:17Speaker 2: So Lane played too well to keep the pressure off.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Now the pressure's on him.
- 37:20Speaker 4: And college football, back-to-back appointment games, Texas OU, LSU, Ole Miss, primetime.
- 37:26Speaker 4: It couldn't have gone better for college football.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I mean, the drama of Lane has become what Deion
- 37:30Speaker 3: Sanders was two years ago.
- 37:31Speaker 2: He's the one coach you want to hear from. every Monday.
- 37:35Speaker 3: I'm already looking forward to the post-game press conference, no
- 37:38Speaker 3: matter what happens with LSU.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Okay, here's another. This one's a little weird. I still
- 37:41Speaker 4: don't know what to make of this, and you and
- 37:42Speaker 4: I watched this a few times. James Franklin is the
- 37:45Speaker 4: head coach of Virginia Tech. You remember him back in
- 37:47Speaker 4: the day, not too long ago, at Penn State. James
- 37:50Speaker 4: Franklin can be prickly. I think that's a nice way
- 37:52Speaker 4: to say it, and you can take a few letters
- 37:54Speaker 4: off there, depending on who's talking about him. But here
- 37:57Speaker 4: he is with a reporter at yesterday's normal press conference.
- 38:02Speaker 9: Michael Howes with the Baltimore Sun.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Hey Michael. Hey Michael.
- 38:06Speaker 7: What do you remember about working alongside?
- 38:10Speaker 8: Hey Michael, how you doing Michael?
- 38:14Speaker 2: Michael, how you doing? Can you hear me? Yeah, I'm
- 38:19Speaker 2: saying how you doing? Good, how are you? Good, good.
- 38:24Speaker 4: On the weird meter, this is about an eight and
- 38:25Speaker 4: a half.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I read some things that James Franklin wants everyone to say,
- 38:29Speaker 3: how are you? It's some sort of weird politeness thing.
- 38:32Speaker 3: But that was not polite. That was kind of mean.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Yeah, and also, coaches, you can't really dictate how the
- 38:36Speaker 4: press conference goes. You want to get moving. If you're
- 38:39Speaker 4: a reporter at a press conference, you want to get
- 38:41Speaker 4: your question in, get your stuff, and get it back
- 38:43Speaker 4: to you, right, if there's still papers, or get it
- 38:46Speaker 4: to your TV station or radio station. Your decor at
- 38:48Speaker 4: a press conference doesn't really change our job.
- 38:51Speaker 2: It's their job. We have to double-check this. I think
- 38:53Speaker 2: he was on Zoom, and I saw a tweet from him.
- 38:55Speaker 3: I believe it was him saying, saying that he thought
- 38:57Speaker 3: he was frozen, which is totally my worst nightmare. Oh, yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 3: here's Michael Howell. He said, James Franklin really wanted to
- 39:02Speaker 3: know how my day was this morning. Couldn't see him
- 39:04Speaker 3: on Zoom and thought the audio was glitchy.
- 39:06Speaker 2: My apologies, James. He doesn't need to apologize. I thought
- 39:09Speaker 2: James Franklin was kind of bullying the media right now.
- 39:11Speaker 4: It did seem that way. I'll tell you what I
- 39:13Speaker 4: would do. If I were a media member covering Vatec football,
- 39:16Speaker 4: and this happens next week, he says, hey, Paul, how
- 39:18Speaker 4: you doing? I'd be like, you know, my back hurts
- 39:19Speaker 4: a little bit. And, you know, my mom is having issues. But,
- 39:22Speaker 4: you know, that's all good. And my car... I got
- 39:24Speaker 4: to get it inspected. And, you know, my kids are
- 39:26Speaker 4: going to college. I would do like a two-minute diatribe
- 39:29Speaker 4: about how I'm doing and just hijack his press conference
- 39:31Speaker 4: and see what he thinks.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I love that.
- 39:33Speaker 3: And James Franklin's funny because I think he had a
- 39:35Speaker 3: lot of enemies when he was at Penn State.
- 39:38Speaker 4: A mixed bag.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but then everything's been good at Virginia Tech. I
- 39:41Speaker 3: think that he got a lot of the bad skeletons
- 39:44Speaker 3: out of his closet out of the way, and now
- 39:45Speaker 3: it's back.
- 39:46Speaker 4: He still got some of that buyout money from Penn State.
- 39:47Speaker 4: All right, it's time. Let's stick with college football. This
- 39:50Speaker 4: is the college football play of the season. Same thing.
- 39:52Speaker 4: King of the Hill. Which is the best play? Will
- 39:55Speaker 4: it hold to week two, three, four, and so forth? Now,
- 39:59Speaker 4: let's go to my guy.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Your guy?
- 40:02Speaker 5: Our guy.
- 40:02Speaker 2: How did you get Drew Mestermaker?
- 40:04Speaker 4: Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestermaker versus Oregon. He did the
- 40:07Speaker 4: John Elway helicopter play. Watch this.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Beautiful.
- 40:12Speaker 4: In the sun. Glistening. Majestic. And in the end zone.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Gets right up. No problems. That looks like a Madden play.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Oh, and not only that, it was an incredibly important,
- 40:21Speaker 3: critical part of the game.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Plus you win the game.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Plus you win the game. You beat one of the
- 40:25Speaker 2: top three teams.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Everything Drew Messermaker did on Saturday was awesome. But the
- 40:29Speaker 3: John Elway moment is definitely, that's a really, really good college.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Play of the year.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Now we're going to get Drew Messermaker on Not So
- 40:36Speaker 4: Fast pretty soon is what I'm hearing. But this guy
- 40:38Speaker 4: is a really interesting character. I know you want to
- 40:40Speaker 4: talk about this more down the road, but for the
- 40:42Speaker 4: NFL draft next year, he is the rising guy, isn't he?
- 40:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, it's funny.
- 40:46Speaker 3: He would be a small school guy. He gets compared
- 40:48Speaker 3: a little bit to Ben Roethlisberger, who went to Miami
- 40:50Speaker 3: of Ohio.
- 40:51Speaker 2: But think about it.
- 40:52Speaker 3: If Ben Roethlisberger played today, he would have transferred out
- 40:54Speaker 3: of Miami of Ohio and went to Oklahoma State. So
- 40:57Speaker 3: he definitely is the out-of-nowhere guy. I really like what
- 41:00Speaker 3: I saw. But he was bad in week one, so
- 41:02Speaker 3: that's confusing as well.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I think Ohio State would have got Ben Roethlisberger. Coming
- 41:06Speaker 4: up next, a lot more coming up. constructive criticism, and
- 41:09Speaker 4: the feel-good. Stick around. This is Not So Fast, Pabst
- 41:12Speaker 4: and Perlman.
- 41:12Speaker 3: All right, welcome back to Not So Fast. Every day
- 41:15Speaker 3: we have leftovers, things that we didn't get to yet.
- 41:18Speaker 3: So last night, Paul, the Yankees and Dodgers clinched the playoff.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Very exciting. So you got to celebrate. It's MLB tradition.
- 41:24Speaker 3: I don't know if you know this, but I have
- 41:26Speaker 3: a major problem with over-celebrating early rounds in the MLB playoffs.
- 41:31Speaker 4: Wait, did the Yankees win the World Series last night?
- 41:33Speaker 2: Well, I mean, this is Pretty standard.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Basically, every round you advance, this is what most teams do.
- 41:39Speaker 4: That's a bottle per person at least, and they put
- 41:41Speaker 4: the tarps out, not tarps off.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Oh, the Dodgers.
- 41:44Speaker 4: The Dodgers look like they're having an engagement celebration with
- 41:47Speaker 4: some light pouring of champagne.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks like a bridal shower. Maybe some very
- 41:52Speaker 3: nice toasts. I don't know why you have to celebrate
- 41:55Speaker 3: it all. The Yankees and Dodgers make it every year.
- 41:57Speaker 4: By the way, the Dodgers should just do crisp handshakes
- 41:59Speaker 4: and walk because if you don't make the playoffs, it's
- 42:01Speaker 4: a complete failure. But I like the Dodgers. Like, this
- 42:04Speaker 4: is a nice step. Ching-ching. Let's move on.
- 42:06Speaker 2: So baseball used to be very few teams made the playoffs.
- 42:10Speaker 3: But now that you have a wild card, it's like
- 42:11Speaker 3: the NFL. Can you imagine another sport, say the NFL,
- 42:14Speaker 3: where you pop champagne after a wild card win?
- 42:17Speaker 4: The New York Yankees aren't some middle-of-the-road team that has no... Like,
- 42:20Speaker 4: if the Pittsburgh Pirates made the postseason... Go nuts. Pour
- 42:24Speaker 4: stuff over everybody. Paul Skeens, Olivia Dunn doing backflips, the
- 42:27Speaker 4: whole thing. But the Yankees, they blew out the budget
- 42:30Speaker 4: for this.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Are we buzzkills? It just dawned on me that maybe
- 42:33Speaker 2: we're no fun right now.
- 42:34Speaker 4: I don't think we're buzzkills. This is not get off
- 42:35Speaker 4: my lawn. This is like act like you've been there before,
- 42:37Speaker 4: but a lot of these guys in the Yankees haven't
- 42:39Speaker 4: been there before.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't want to be called not so fun.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Not so fun. Not so fast. All right, it's time
- 42:44Speaker 4: for Swift and Cruz at the game yesterday. Taylor Swift,
- 42:49Speaker 4: Tom Cruise. Yep. Are they top five most famous humans
- 42:52Speaker 4: on earth? If you did the list of five, they're
- 42:54Speaker 4: in it, right?
- 42:55Speaker 3: Five's tough because you obviously have Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Fame-wise, okay.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I think that you have the two soccer players, Messi
- 43:04Speaker 3: and Cristiano Ronaldo.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Okay. Because those internationally are probably more famous.
- 43:08Speaker 4: But that's probably the list. You're capped at like under eight.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Tiger Woods, huge overseas.
- 43:14Speaker 4: LeBron James.
- 43:15Speaker 2: LeBron James. Shaq. Shaq. Who doesn't know Shaq?
- 43:19Speaker 4: Everyone knows Shaq.
- 43:20Speaker 3: We don't know what in Europe and what in Asia
- 43:22Speaker 3: if they love Tom Cruise, but I imagine they do.
- 43:24Speaker 4: But clearly top eight famous people on Earth.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's funny.
- 43:27Speaker 3: They're both at a random Kansas City-Denver game. Is it
- 43:30Speaker 3: weird to have Tom Cruise in KC?
- 43:33Speaker 4: No, I think it's a very smart move by Tom Cruise.
- 43:35Speaker 4: He's got a movie coming out. He's on the cover
- 43:36Speaker 4: of GQ today. This is just the rollout to the Oscar.
- 43:41Speaker 4: I'm calling my shot Larry Bird style. Tom Cruise, best actor.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Book it now.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Make your bets. For Digger. Digger. Are you going to
- 43:47Speaker 2: go to the theater to see it?
- 43:49Speaker 4: It's the Digger Phelps story about Notre Dame basketball. Of
- 43:51Speaker 4: course I'm going to watch anything about Notre Dame basketball.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Not so sure.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Not so fast. All right, let's get to a little
- 43:57Speaker 4: constructive criticism. What we're wearing, what we're doing about football, basketball, baseball, whatever.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Here's the first one, Pearl. This is my home for
- 44:06Speaker 4: the day.
- 44:07Speaker 2: This is you.
- 44:08Speaker 4: You went to a nice sports pub and watched 13
- 44:10Speaker 4: hours of college football on Saturday.
- 44:12Speaker 5: I respect this.
- 44:12Speaker 3: So my buddy Zach Gelb is a Temple fan, and
- 44:14Speaker 3: I don't know if he could get the game at home.
- 44:16Speaker 2: So he wanted to go to.
- 44:17Speaker 3: A sports bar, and there were 12 screens showing games.
- 44:20Speaker 2: But something very bad happened. Oh, no.
- 44:22Speaker 4: It looks like a great TV ratio.
- 44:23Speaker 2: No, it was great.
- 44:24Speaker 3: But there was a fan base that took over the bar,
- 44:26Speaker 3: and they were obnoxious. I'm just going to be honest.
- 44:28Speaker 2: It was Michigan, Oklahoma. And for some weird reason, New
- 44:32Speaker 2: York City, every other bar is a Michigan bar. Wow.
- 44:35Speaker 3: And they were feeling themselves. It's like they forgot Western
- 44:38Speaker 3: Michigan ever happened, Paul. And they were letting everyone know
- 44:41Speaker 3: the score of that game is Michigan beat Oklahoma.
- 44:43Speaker 4: God, I wish you could have had a Western Michigan
- 44:44Speaker 4: hoodie on for that game. All right, here's the next
- 44:46Speaker 4: constructive criticism. Let's check it out. Packers' second half woes
- 44:50Speaker 4: have carried over since 2005, 2025. It's almost like you
- 44:54Speaker 4: want to be down at half. Is it LeFleur? They
- 44:57Speaker 4: are out of love with LeFleur. They still love love.
- 44:59Speaker 4: They don't love LeFleur. I think Packers fans are very upset.
- 45:03Speaker 4: And it goes back to last season.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Well, and also a couple of brutal calls on Sunday
- 45:06Speaker 3: against Minnesota. But that was a record-setting loss. They were
- 45:09Speaker 3: up double digits, then to lose by double digits in
- 45:12Speaker 3: a very short amount of time.
- 45:14Speaker 2: I'm very worried about Matt LaFleur. I think his seat
- 45:17Speaker 2: is definitely hot. And I think if they miss the playoffs,
- 45:20Speaker 2: he's probably done, even though he's a very good coach.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Yeah, tough division. The Packers are always in there. I
- 45:24Speaker 4: pump the brakes and say they'll be fine. But, man,
- 45:26Speaker 4: that was ugly. All right, next one, constructive criticism. Oh,
- 45:29Speaker 4: my God, Paul Papps, Brooklyn Fritzie. These white uniforms by
- 45:32Speaker 4: the Broncos should get seven points just for them. I'm
- 45:35Speaker 4: in a not-so-fast year. The Broncos' uniforms are nice, but
- 45:38Speaker 4: that choppy arm thing is a mess. The white-on-white helmet,
- 45:42Speaker 4: there's no reason for that. The Broncos have so many
- 45:45Speaker 4: better options for uniforms. These are good. They're just not
- 45:48Speaker 4: great Bronco-wise.
- 45:50Speaker 2: You're right. So the bar is high. The white-on-white Cincinnati
- 45:52Speaker 2: Bengals now, Paul?
- 45:53Speaker 4: Those are crisp.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Tigers, right? That, to me, is a lose.
- 45:55Speaker 4: But I want some blue on the face mask. I
- 45:57Speaker 4: want some blue on the helmet. Help me out.
- 45:58Speaker 3: I'm a big-time white-on-white guy. I kind of like that.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Good contrast with the Chiefs.
- 46:02Speaker 2: All right.
- 46:02Speaker 4: You're very pale, so it doesn't surprise me.
- 46:04Speaker 7: All right.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Next up, Constructor Criticism.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 46:07Speaker 4: Plaid to the bone. This is yesterday's show. We're plaid
- 46:10Speaker 4: on plaid. And shockingly, we're very similar today.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Yeah, this is becoming a problem.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Yeah, they say if we wrote a book, it'd be
- 46:16Speaker 4: as plaid as we want to be. I'm sticking by it.
- 46:19Speaker 4: I'm not changing who I am.
- 46:20Speaker 2: So we don't call each other in the morning. I'm
- 46:22Speaker 2: now looking at the camera.
- 46:23Speaker 9: Clearly.
- 46:24Speaker 2: We are wearing very, very similar shirts.
- 46:26Speaker 4: You know, this is, you know, it feels good. And
- 46:29Speaker 4: we're getting into fall. We're getting into flannel season. I
- 46:32Speaker 4: would say if you don't like plaid, this might be
- 46:34Speaker 4: the wrong show for you.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Should we lean into the fact that we're wearing the
- 46:37Speaker 3: same shirt every day or should we try to differ?
- 46:39Speaker 3: Should we call each other in the morning saying I'm
- 46:41Speaker 3: going to Argyle or something?
- 46:42Speaker 4: I can't call you to talk about outfits in the morning.
- 46:44Speaker 4: I can't. I'm a football guy from the Midwest. I mean,
- 46:47Speaker 4: I might as well just, I don't even know what
- 46:48Speaker 4: to say about that.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Okay. Well, I think we look good.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Or passable.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Passable.
- 46:53Speaker 4: As plaid as we want to be.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:54Speaker 4: All right, let's get to it. This is the feel good.
- 46:57Speaker 4: This is a good one. I like this one. This
- 46:58Speaker 4: is from the Chiefs game. Now, this is a Chiefs fan.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Josh Chavis. Been sitting in these seats for 15 years.
- 47:09Speaker 4: He's a ticket holder. I always smile when I come back. Now,
- 47:12Speaker 4: this is one of those metal bars. He taps his
- 47:14Speaker 4: wedding ring on it when he's nervous or concerned as
- 47:17Speaker 4: a Chiefs fan. Now, this stadium will be going away soon.
- 47:20Speaker 4: Any chance the Chiefs can give him the bar. Like
- 47:23Speaker 4: when they take this place down, get the guys out there,
- 47:26Speaker 4: the soldering guys, and just cut a piece of this
- 47:28Speaker 4: off for my guy, Josh. What do you think, Josh?
- 47:30Speaker 4: We're trying to help you out. Can you get that
- 47:31Speaker 4: piece of metal, bring it home, mount it over the mantle?
- 47:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but they could be charging a million dollars for
- 47:37Speaker 3: PSLs and who knows. I saw a rendering last night
- 47:39Speaker 3: during the game. It looks like a very nice stadium.
- 47:41Speaker 3: I don't know if they want it. An old piece
- 47:44Speaker 3: of metal from Arrowhead.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Oh, that'd be a treat. I've got an old Wrigley
- 47:47Speaker 4: Field seat they got me when they redid the seats.
- 47:49Speaker 4: I don't know where to display it because my wife said,
- 47:51Speaker 4: you're not displaying that in my house, which makes me
- 47:54Speaker 4: think she doesn't want it displayed in her house.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Well, it is your house together. Is that what it's outside?
- 48:01Speaker 2: Is that what she means?
- 48:01Speaker 4: Oh, you must be new here. It's our house together. Now,
- 48:04Speaker 4: I don't know if that's the case. I have this
- 48:05Speaker 4: old metal thing from Wrigley Field and it's in the
- 48:09Speaker 4: basement in a box and It might be in a
- 48:11Speaker 4: box for the next few.
- 48:12Speaker 3: But if you're actually going to bring a relic from
- 48:13Speaker 3: Arrowhead to the new stadium, I'm not sure one guy
- 48:16Speaker 3: with a wedding ring qualifies.
- 48:18Speaker 2: There's a lot of history with Kansas City Chiefs. Is
- 48:21Speaker 2: that enough?
- 48:22Speaker 4: If you got an old bench piece that Randall Cunningham
- 48:25Speaker 4: sat on during the Eagles days and they cut it
- 48:27Speaker 4: out for you, where are you going to put it?
- 48:29Speaker 2: Oh, are you kidding me? It's the first thing you
- 48:30Speaker 2: see when you come into my house.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it'd be like in the mudroom.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you have such a piece?
- 48:35Speaker 4: I absolutely don't. All right, that's it for us, Not
- 48:37Speaker 4: So Fast. Tune in to the Dan Patrick Show tomorrow.
- 48:39Speaker 4: Get you all ready for midweek college football, pro football.
- 48:42Speaker 4: Then stick here at noon, Not So Fast, right here
- 48:45Speaker 4: on NBC Sports Now Peacock.
- 48:47Speaker 2: All over the place.
- 48:47Speaker 4: That's it for us.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Where is the Wrigley chip?
- 48:49Speaker 4: It's in a box in my office for year three.
