- 0:00Speaker 1: Rock set and listen to your heart on Light FM.
- 0:02Speaker 1: And today we carry the memory of September 11th in
- 0:05Speaker 1: our hearts on this 25th anniversary. Thank you for listening
- 0:10Speaker 1: to us. And we were having a discussion about 15
- 0:13Speaker 1: minutes ago about mainly for teachers, but really it could
- 0:17Speaker 1: be for parents. Chime in 44363. when do you teach
- 0:22Speaker 1: kids about September 11th? And when does it come up
- 0:25Speaker 1: in conversation? Right.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Because you and Kristen, you have such young ones and
- 0:28Speaker 2: they don't, they don't really, they don't know yet. How
- 0:32Speaker 2: do we tell them? So, yeah, we've been getting great response.
- 0:34Speaker 2: And I also want to say thank you so much
- 0:36Speaker 2: because we've gotten some beautiful messages for producer Kristen who
- 0:40Speaker 2: shared her story. earlier about her dad.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah, go back and listen on the iHeartRadio app. It's free,
- 0:46Speaker 1: by the way, and you can check out Kristen's story
- 0:49Speaker 1: if you missed it around 7.10 this morning.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Her dad, one of the many, many heroes that day,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and we are forever grateful. So, teachers, thank you for
- 0:57Speaker 2: weighing in. Okay, 201. My son is in the sixth grade,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and he's in a New Jersey school. He came home
- 1:04Speaker 2: at the beginning of this week, and he said, we
- 1:06Speaker 2: are going to learn about September 11th and social studies. So,
- 1:10Speaker 2: sixth grade. That's where they're starting. I remember people are
- 1:16Speaker 2: saying I'm a fourth grade teacher. This is Marissa in
- 1:19Speaker 2: New Jersey. We teach about 9-11 each year this time.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Talk about the event, what happened. Most students have some
- 1:25Speaker 2: knowledge from their parents' experiences. We usually read about the
- 1:29Speaker 2: survivor tree. And this year we're reading a Scholastic News
- 1:33Speaker 2: article that explains the event, focuses on a story that
- 1:36Speaker 2: honors the heroes.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Again, like.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Like Kristen's father. 516, I'm a September 11th survivor. I
- 1:43Speaker 2: saw things I never thought I would see. I'm also
- 1:46Speaker 2: a Nona, two, a three and a half year old.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And at this age, we leave it to the parents.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Teachers and parents teach them kindness and caring. No need
- 1:53Speaker 2: to teach them the bad. Keep them innocent, but not blind.
- 1:59Speaker 2: We have 973, a teacher in Newark. She said, I
- 2:02Speaker 2: teach my middle school, my classroom faces directly with towards
- 2:06Speaker 2: lower Manhattan, and that day we watched in real time.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And she said, every year since, on September 11th, I
- 2:12Speaker 2: try and focus on the heroic acts of that day.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I show my kids documentaries like Boat Lift and the
- 2:18Speaker 2: stories from Gander, Newfoundland, more than focusing on the acts
- 2:21Speaker 2: of evil.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Right, because there were acts of kindness that day. Absolutely.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And today's Patriot Day as well.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yes. Right. Today's a beautiful day to a lot of
- 2:29Speaker 2: people volunteer to give back. Right. You just want to
- 2:32Speaker 2: feel like you're putting that positivity back. into the world.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I saw a great meme. Let me see if I
- 2:37Speaker 1: can find it. I saved it on my phone. It said,
- 2:39Speaker 1: the best way to honor those lost on 9-11 is
- 2:42Speaker 1: to be the people we were on 9-12. You remember
- 2:47Speaker 1: how together we all were? So thank you for all
- 2:50Speaker 1: the text messages and keep them coming at 44363. And
- 2:54Speaker 1: if you are a teacher, thank you for all you
- 2:56Speaker 1: do and shaping our future. And I know you have
- 3:00Speaker 1: a tough job. We appreciate you.
