- 26:28Speaker 5: to introduce to you gugg And Singh, who just worked
- 26:32Speaker 5: on a brand new film called Sings in the Ring
- 26:35Speaker 5: and was just nominated here by the Canadian Screen Awards
- 26:39Speaker 5: for his work on this film.
- 26:41Speaker 6: I'll tell you a little bit about the film.
- 26:43Speaker 5: The film is a is a movie called Sings in
- 26:45Speaker 5: the Ring and it's a vibrant, heart pounding journey through
- 26:48Speaker 5: the legacy of Stampede wrestling legend Gama Singh, who turned
- 26:52Speaker 5: prejudice into power, and his son Rogers struggled to carry
- 26:55Speaker 5: the family legacy. Featuring w w E icons Brett Hard,
- 27:00Speaker 5: Chelsea Green, and Jinder Mahal, this documentary celebrates wrestling's golden
- 27:05Speaker 5: era while confronting enduring questions of identity and cultural legacy.
- 27:10Speaker 6: Gugin, thanks for joining us today, Sammie, thank you so much.
- 27:14Speaker 20: For having me brother.
- 27:15Speaker 28: It's a pleasure and an honor.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Well, first of all, thank you, and it's I'm sure
- 27:22Speaker 5: what an honor that you've been bestowed with to be
- 27:24Speaker 5: nominated for your work on this film.
- 27:28Speaker 6: Let's back up a little bit.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Tell us about the film, your involvement in it, how
- 27:32Speaker 5: did it all come about?
- 27:33Speaker 6: Give us the story.
- 27:35Speaker 28: Yeah, absolutely, I got a call from my friend cos Sherman,
- 27:41Speaker 28: who's the director of this movie, and he was like, hey, man,
- 27:45Speaker 28: you want to work on a wrestling movie. And what's
- 27:47Speaker 28: really funny is I've been down a rabbit hole of
- 27:51Speaker 28: watching We've all been down these internet rabbit holes of
- 27:55Speaker 28: watching our favorite stuff from our childhood. And I was
- 27:57Speaker 28: watching a WrestleMania mac with the hit Man heart. So
- 28:01Speaker 28: any wrestling fan, any true wrestling fan.
- 28:03Speaker 29: Would know him.
- 28:04Speaker 28: Yeah, And that led to me saying one hundred percent
- 28:07Speaker 28: I'm in. And I got to learn about the great
- 28:11Speaker 28: dynasty of Gama Singh, which you know, Jinder Mahal, who's
- 28:15Speaker 28: a w W champion a few years ago, is his nephew,
- 28:18Speaker 28: and you know, really harnessed wrestling under his futelage in Calgary,
- 28:24Speaker 28: which is a home to some of some of the
- 28:26Speaker 28: greatest wrestlers in the WWE.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Yeah, first of all, what an incredible story just on
- 28:32Speaker 5: its own right, But then when you talk about the
- 28:34Speaker 5: impact of it from our cultural perspective, Sings in the Ring,
- 28:38Speaker 5: What an impactful film and again tells the story of
- 28:41Speaker 5: our Punjabi story here in North America in an arena
- 28:44Speaker 5: that we don't really get to hear from professional wrestling.
- 28:48Speaker 6: What a unique experience he must have had.
- 28:51Speaker 28: Absolutely, But you know, I encourage everyone who hasn't seen
- 28:54Speaker 28: it to get to get out there and see it,
- 28:56Speaker 28: because even I learned so much about our history and wrestling.
- 29:00Speaker 28: And you know, Belwani as we call it in Punjabi
- 29:03Speaker 28: and Hindia, it goes way back in in Indian history
- 29:07Speaker 28: and it's been a part of Fujabi culture for a
- 29:11Speaker 28: very long time. So you know, it's really interesting that
- 29:17Speaker 28: this dynasty made it here into Canada and the United
- 29:20Speaker 28: States and went all the way. You know, now we
- 29:22Speaker 28: have South Asian and funjubww champions that are story too.
- 29:28Speaker 5: The music man of this film, for you to put
- 29:31Speaker 5: together the score the soundtrack, tell us about how you married.
- 29:37Speaker 6: Music to a story like this. What were the things
- 29:40Speaker 6: that you went through.
- 29:43Speaker 28: Well, you know, I sat with the director. I had
- 29:46Speaker 28: a lot of long conversations with him. He's from Edmonton.
- 29:49Speaker 28: He flew to Toronto, he sat in my studio and
- 29:52Speaker 28: we just got the notepads out for like an entire
- 29:56Speaker 28: day evening with a cup of jah in hands, and
- 29:59Speaker 28: basically we just went through the story of This is
- 30:01Speaker 28: a story about faith, family, good and evil and Gama
- 30:05Speaker 28: thing is a larger than life character character in in
- 30:10Speaker 28: wrestling and of course in his personal life, to which
- 30:13Speaker 28: I won't give much away about that here in this interview.
- 30:16Speaker 28: But it's a must watch because it tells an immigrant
- 30:19Speaker 28: story and it also tells a wrestler story, So I
- 30:23Speaker 28: wanted to add that family aspect, and it touches on
- 30:27Speaker 28: all these concepts that are a big part of our
- 30:29Speaker 28: Indian culture.
- 30:31Speaker 6: So bringing marrying.
- 30:34Speaker 28: Sounds like, you know, the subblah dole, the North Indian folks,
- 30:39Speaker 28: Punjabi elements, as well as some of that singing in
- 30:43Speaker 28: those textures with Western classical or keptral cinematic textures like
- 30:49Speaker 28: Han Zimmer's Man of Steel. That was an inspiration that
- 30:52Speaker 28: the director had, and he wanted me to take con
- 30:55Speaker 28: Zimmer's you know, very very renowned sound of Holly Would
- 31:00Speaker 28: and kind of blend it organically in a tasteful manner
- 31:06Speaker 28: with our Punjabi cultural sounds.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Quite a task and I think you've hit a home
- 31:13Speaker 5: run on it. And I'm not the only one that
- 31:15Speaker 5: thinks so the Canadian Screen Awards think so as well.
- 31:19Speaker 5: How does that feel to be nominated by them?
- 31:22Speaker 17: Then?
- 31:22Speaker 28: It is such an honor you know, this is something
- 31:26Speaker 28: that composers work towards our whole life, So not just
- 31:30Speaker 28: to have the honor of the Canadian Academy, but to
- 31:33Speaker 28: have it with a film like this. You know, I
- 31:37Speaker 28: want to say that one of the producers, Sonny Sadu,
- 31:39Speaker 28: he is like an older brother to me. He passed
- 31:42Speaker 28: away and was not able to join us in the
- 31:45Speaker 28: premiere of this film. So to me, it feels like
- 31:48Speaker 28: I can honor him with this award and this nomination,
- 31:51Speaker 28: and I can honor our culture, our faith, our people
- 31:55Speaker 28: who you know, people like Gama sing A Gamma uncle.
- 31:59Speaker 15: I call him out of.
- 32:00Speaker 28: Love when you when you see on on the big screen,
- 32:04Speaker 28: either the real life challenges that they face to get
- 32:09Speaker 28: to where they are today. It truly tells h an
- 32:13Speaker 28: immigrant story and how difficult it was at that time
- 32:17Speaker 28: to make something of yourself. And so I just feel like,
- 32:21Speaker 28: you know, I'm blessed us to to help tell his
- 32:24Speaker 28: story because those are the real heroes.
- 32:26Speaker 29: You know.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Yeah, Wow, incredible man, Guggan, Congratulations on your work on
- 32:33Speaker 5: this project. An incredible nomination to go along with this
- 32:37Speaker 5: story that you've told and helped tell.
- 32:40Speaker 6: Where can we catch this film? So in Canada.
- 32:43Speaker 28: It's been released on craz TV in the United States.
- 32:48Speaker 28: I believe distribution is being completed at the moment, so
- 32:52Speaker 28: I you know, I have a feeling of what the
- 32:55Speaker 28: streaming network is, but I don't. I don't want to
- 32:57Speaker 28: say it just the end case of anything. But it's
- 33:00Speaker 28: coming out on the States very soon and India very
- 33:02Speaker 28: soon as well.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Wow, Gugan, thanks so much for hanging out with us today.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Take a bow, brother, and congratulations on this film.
- 33:11Speaker 28: Thank you so much, brother, Thank you.
- 33:13Speaker 6: All right, here's the next song for you guys.
- 33:17Speaker 3: I'm Jack. Look at the hon.
- 34:04Speaker 6: I'm just gotta come.
- 34:05Speaker 7: Then my head uns like the head I'm saying as
- 34:08Speaker 7: Helen I, Tony okay, manger hunt thusand dollars.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I can't you get it?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Can?
- 34:14Speaker 7: Then he's a lot of us, Lama, and that's not
- 34:19Speaker 7: funny for that John Downny House not for yeah, oh yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 7: good uncle like Johnny Honey's apple ho yeah, well good
- 34:28Speaker 7: uncle like ya Johnny holy yeah the good uncle.
- 34:31Speaker 9: La Johnny Honey's upple oh yeah, und Johnny.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I can to can then not today?
- 34:56Speaker 7: Then what's in a cat that's hand to work? But
- 34:59Speaker 7: then and then he but then he don't lost, he shoots,
- 35:02Speaker 7: don't money either.
- 35:03Speaker 1: The dog let the luck to.
- 35:07Speaker 7: Oh no, he can look up product and talk and
- 35:09Speaker 7: jo Johnny House looks.
- 35:11Speaker 24: Oh yeah they.
- 35:13Speaker 30: Oh yeah, they Johnny and he's unco.
- 35:18Speaker 17: Johnny.
- 35:19Speaker 7: Oh yeah they Johnny and he's roman.
- 35:23Speaker 11: Na think again.
- 35:32Speaker 7: He's up there, yeah money, look hey, holy because I'm okay.
- 35:38Speaker 1: But got jennation from the orders.
- 35:40Speaker 6: Nag him.
- 35:44Speaker 29: One.
- 35:45Speaker 9: Then you're talking any Johnny House, yeah, the.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they wanted Johnny.
- 35:53Speaker 9: He's not comple, you're Johnny.
- 35:57Speaker 17: Oh yeah, I'm Johnny.
- 36:02Speaker 6: I love that track right there.
- 36:03Speaker 5: And talking about music, what an excellent time for us
- 36:06Speaker 5: to bring in DJ Geet to the show.
- 36:08Speaker 6: What's up DJ Geat? How are you.
- 36:12Speaker 31: Everyone? Dj gp here? I'm doing great. How are you doing, Sammy?
- 36:16Speaker 6: We're doing well.
- 36:17Speaker 5: And we know that you've got a bucket of music
- 36:20Speaker 5: that you pull cool stuff out of all the time.
- 36:23Speaker 6: And today you've got a song from our friend Sanjoy.
- 36:27Speaker 31: Yes, today I'm presenting this song which is from san
- 36:33Speaker 31: Joy and the collaboration between Nora and Bodshaw.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:38Speaker 6: So this song.
- 36:40Speaker 31: No ordinary single. It's actually being presented as a part
- 36:45Speaker 31: of Nora Fadeh's hypop Era. The T series is framing
- 36:49Speaker 31: it as like a step towards taking Indian pops the global.
- 36:55Speaker 6: I love it.
- 36:56Speaker 5: It's a vibe that I think that Noura is feeling
- 36:58Speaker 5: really well, and you throw in Bodschat kind of energy
- 37:00Speaker 5: into it. You have this great chemistry between the two
- 37:04Speaker 5: of them that they've worked together on before, and then
- 37:07Speaker 5: Sanjoi and Noura have worked together before, So this feels
- 37:11Speaker 5: like a very comfortable dynamic amongst all three of the
- 37:13Speaker 5: three of these artists.
- 37:16Speaker 31: I completely agree. I really sponsoring what gives the song
- 37:20Speaker 31: it's identity. You have bad SHA's rap presence, and you
- 37:25Speaker 31: have Nora's energy performance and star powers, and so the
- 37:31Speaker 31: magnetic screen presence with sun Joy shaping the overall sound.
- 37:35Speaker 31: Putting more polished and international dance possible pop production. This
- 37:41Speaker 31: track is amazing. It blends in safty influence with electronic
- 37:46Speaker 31: global pop textures, and it's really what it's all about
- 37:50Speaker 31: with South Asian music right now, is making it more
- 37:53Speaker 31: global and universal.
- 37:55Speaker 5: Sandroi does that so well. He's excellent with samples and
- 37:58Speaker 5: just puts a great eight track together and really has
- 38:01Speaker 5: found the lane in that kind of dance production type
- 38:05Speaker 5: of uh, you know sound design.
- 38:07Speaker 6: So it's really really cool.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Well, DJ Get if you can do us the honors
- 38:12Speaker 5: here of introducing this track of the week.
- 38:15Speaker 31: Of corn. All right, everybody, it's a agendry with Nora the.

- 40:18Speaker 34: You fly girl and I'm a fly guy, Beauty fight
- 40:22Speaker 34: buddy by find out, Bye bye boy, Shut up.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Big shout out to d J Geet there that song
- 40:51Speaker 5: called Sage by a good friend san JOI and just
- 40:55Speaker 5: came out right there on T series.
- 40:57Speaker 6: Folks, let me pull in our good friend E the
- 41:00Speaker 6: first to the show. What's up? E?
- 41:03Speaker 29: What's happening?
- 41:05Speaker 13: Man?
- 41:05Speaker 5: I have been so looking forward to today's conversation with you.
- 41:09Speaker 5: I was like, there is one big Kanye fan that
- 41:12Speaker 5: I know. I'm gonna pull him into this dialogue and
- 41:15Speaker 5: I'm going to pose the question at you. What have
- 41:18Speaker 5: you been thinking about this last week or so of
- 41:21Speaker 5: rollout two back to back shows at Sofi Stadium and
- 41:24Speaker 5: then you've got this big release. I'm sure you've heard
- 41:26Speaker 5: the album. I'm sure you've been hearing all the other developments.
- 41:30Speaker 5: Tell me, brother, what is it like in the world
- 41:32Speaker 5: of Kanye fandom? In this conversation, I mean, it was.
- 41:38Speaker 29: Goes Up saying that he can generate above like nobody else,
- 41:41Speaker 29: Like it's so crazy how he every single time you
- 41:45Speaker 29: think he's gone he comes back with a splash for
- 41:47Speaker 29: me the moment. I mean, I had buddies from you know,
- 41:50Speaker 29: Surrey flying out for that Sofi Stadium two day concert
- 41:55Speaker 29: and like no hotel, no nothing, just like Boolin gonna
- 41:59Speaker 29: just like be out there and you know, just eating
- 42:02Speaker 29: food in the day, go to the contrac at night
- 42:04Speaker 29: and fight right after type situations. And from what I saw,
- 42:09Speaker 29: like I didn't really know about the situation like the concert,
- 42:13Speaker 29: but when I got on Twitter that night and I
- 42:17Speaker 29: saw like you brought out Lauren Hill and Tavis Ska
- 42:20Speaker 29: and the Big Globe, I was like, whoa, Like no
- 42:23Speaker 29: one can put on a Kanye's show, but no one
- 42:26Speaker 29: can put it on a show like Kanye. Like I've
- 42:28Speaker 29: got to experience him in Italy as well when I
- 42:30Speaker 29: was living in Italy, and that was like an insane
- 42:33Speaker 29: moment as well, just because of how random it was.
- 42:37Speaker 29: But just no one does it like Kanye. And then
- 42:40Speaker 29: now I think, what's crazy is is this whole wireless
- 42:43Speaker 29: stuff so situation? Because right it's crazy because like the
- 42:48Speaker 29: Soulfi Stadium situation was like holy, like this is maybe
- 42:53Speaker 29: one of the greatest like performers of our generations because
- 42:57Speaker 29: like you also think about the fact that like rap
- 43:00Speaker 29: does not like carry well in big stadiums.
- 43:04Speaker 7: Like I've been to.
- 43:05Speaker 29: Tavis Scott show, the auto tune just sounds goofy. You know,
- 43:09Speaker 29: singing usually sounds the best, right, you know, Edge, you
- 43:11Speaker 29: will go up there with a guitar and you know,
- 43:13Speaker 29: rock the house type situation or like you know, electronic music,
- 43:16Speaker 29: et cetera. But like you know, Kanye has hits that
- 43:19Speaker 29: are like like meant for the stadium, and I think
- 43:24Speaker 29: a lot of people in the UK had to be
- 43:26Speaker 29: like exteeming for that, like soulfi stadium experience, but as
- 43:30Speaker 29: a wireless vessel. And I think just the whole craziest
- 43:33Speaker 29: part about it was that like the government stepped in
- 43:36Speaker 29: to be like this ain't happening. You're not allowed in
- 43:39Speaker 29: the country.
- 43:39Speaker 6: Which is crazy. Rat which is crazy, you know, and.
- 43:45Speaker 5: You know, listen, definitely a very polarizing individual, right, you
- 43:49Speaker 5: can't deny that certain people are very offended by what
- 43:52Speaker 5: he says. You know, does it need to come at
- 43:56Speaker 5: it from a federal level, I'm not sure. You know,
- 44:00Speaker 5: let the festival make that decision if they're going to.
- 44:03Speaker 29: Well, the festival, the organizer he's doing. He came out
- 44:08Speaker 29: and was like I believe in forgiveness and like I
- 44:11Speaker 29: want Kanye here, Like I don't care if pulled out,
- 44:14Speaker 29: Like you know, Kanye is still going to perform, right,
- 44:16Speaker 29: But for the government to step in is like it's
- 44:19Speaker 29: that's a really crazy sessiden, you know, like I think
- 44:23Speaker 29: there's a reason why, Like when you look at a
- 44:25Speaker 29: lot of like super dystopian movies like you know, V
- 44:28Speaker 29: for Vendetta, Children of Men, Like where are they all situated?
- 44:32Speaker 29: They're all in the UK? So I think the UK
- 44:36Speaker 29: has really weird laws. And here's another thing, this is
- 44:39Speaker 29: not the first artist to get banned Lil Wayne Pla
- 44:43Speaker 29: the Creator. You know, other artists have been banned in
- 44:46Speaker 29: a similar like style as Kanye West. You know, but
- 44:50Speaker 29: it's just so crazy that the government, because like it's
- 44:56Speaker 29: just the connection to the festival, and like they got
- 44:59Speaker 29: us say potentially on like what music you're the people
- 45:03Speaker 29: in your country.
- 45:03Speaker 6: Get to listen to.
- 45:04Speaker 29: That's crazy, you know that Holy Like you gotta thank America.
- 45:10Speaker 6: Yeah for us here in this country. This is crazier
- 45:14Speaker 6: to hear.
- 45:14Speaker 5: But man, thank you so much for tabling this discussion.
- 45:18Speaker 5: It was a good one, thanks so much for joining us,
- 45:21Speaker 5: of course, and I'm sure you're yeah, I'm sure you're
- 45:24Speaker 5: listening to that Bully album too. By the way, quick one,
- 45:26Speaker 5: what what out of ten do you give it a rating?
- 45:31Speaker 5: All right, well, we'll check back in with you next
- 45:34Speaker 5: week and get another index from you on this whole situation.
- 45:37Speaker 6: Definitely brood on YouTube.

- 48:50Speaker 5: on top of each other. It's not just even the
- 48:52Speaker 5: Kavali stuff. I love choirs and another kind of magical
- 48:56Speaker 5: vocal ensemble work.

- 49:11Speaker 25: has made incremental progress in meeting IMF reform targets, including
- 49:15Speaker 25: tax vestments and state owned enterprise restructuring. While inflation has
- 49:18Speaker 25: ease compared to crisis peaks, cost of living pressures remain sensitive.
- 49:22Speaker 25: Continued IMF cooperation is key to restoring investor confidence in
- 49:26Speaker 25: long term stability. India and Japan held high level talks
- 49:29Speaker 25: this week focusing on supply chain resilience, maritime security, and
- 49:33Speaker 25: advanced technology collaboration. The Indo Pacific remains a priority region
- 49:37Speaker 25: in India's role continues to expand within regional security frameworks
- 49:41Speaker 25: for South Asians across Asia Pacific nations. Stability in sea
- 49:44Speaker 25: lanes and trade corridors directly impact economic opportunity. Recovery requires discipline,
- 49:49Speaker 25: partnerships require vision. South Asia's future lies in both that.
