- Lucas: Hey everyone, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode 33 already — that's wild. Lucas: I know, right? We've covered so much. Today we're adding three super useful verbs. Luna: Ooh, verbs! I love verbs. Which ones? Lucas: Today it's all about the senses: 睇, which means 'to see' or 'to look'. Luna: 睇. Got it. Like when I'm people-watching at the park. Lucas: Exactly. And then 聽, meaning 'to listen' or 'to hear'. Luna: 聽. So I can say I listen to music? I love music. Lucas: For sure! And the third one is 講, which means 'to speak'. Luna: 講. That's a good one. Like 'I speak Cantonese' — that would be 我講廣東話? Lucas: Yes! You're jumping ahead. But let's take it step by step. First, let's practice 睇. Say it with me: 睇. Luna: 睇. 睇. That sounds like 'tai'. Lucas: Perfect. Now to say 'I see', you add 我 before it: 我睇. But we often add 到 after to mean 'see it' or 'perceive it': 我睇到. Luna: 我睇到. So that's 'I see '. Lucas: Right. For example: 我睇到一隻貓. I see a cat. Luna: Aww, I love cats. 我睇到一隻貓. So 貓 is cat, from episode 29. Lucas: Good memory! Okay, your turn. Say 'I see a dog'. Luna: 我睇到一隻狗. Lucas: Excellent! Now let's move to 聽. Repeat after me: 聽. Luna: 聽. 聽. That's 'ting'. Lucas: Yes. To say 'I hear', it's 我聽到. For example: 我聽到音樂. I hear music. Luna: 我聽到音樂. Music — that's 音樂. I remember that from one of the earlier episodes, maybe the streaming one? Lucas: Yeah, from episode 5 or so. You're right. Now you try: 'I hear a bird' — 雀 is bird. Luna: 我聽到一隻雀. Lucas: Wow, that was perfect. And 講 — to speak. Repeat: 講. Luna: 講. That's 'gong'. Lucas: Yes. So 'I speak Cantonese' is 我講廣東話. 廣東話 is Cantonese. Luna: 我講廣東話. That's a mouthful but I like it. Lucas: You can also say 我講英文 — I speak English. 英文 is English. Luna: 我講英文. So if I'm at a dim sum place and I want to say I speak a little Cantonese, how would I say that? Lucas: Good question! You can say 我識講少少廣東話. But let's keep it simple for now. Just 我講廣東話 is fine. Luna: Okay. Let me practice all three. 我睇到, 我聽到, 我講廣東話. Lucas: Yes! Let's do a little scene. Imagine you're at a park. You see a dog, you hear music, and you tell me you speak Cantonese. Luna: Okay. 我睇到一隻狗. 我聽到音樂. 我講廣東話. How was that? Lucas: That was fantastic! I'm so proud. Luna: Ahh, yes! I love when I get it. Lucas: Now let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: 睇. Luna: 睇. Lucas: 聽. Luna: 聽. Lucas: 講. Luna: 講. Lucas: And the phrases: 我睇到. Luna: 我睇到. Luna: 我聽到. Lucas: 我講廣東話. Luna: 我講廣東話. Lucas: You did it. Now let's hear them in a natural context. Imagine you're at a cafe. You see your friend, you hear the coffee machine, and you speak Cantonese to the barista. Luna: So I'd say: 我睇到我朋友. 我聽到咖啡機. 我講廣東話. Lucas: Perfect! And if you want to order coffee, you can say 我要咖啡 from episode 27. But that's for another day. Luna: I feel so ready to go out and use these. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome, Luna. And listeners, practice these phrases today. Try saying what you see, hear, and what language you speak. Luna: Yes! And don't forget to subscribe to Fexingo for more fun Cantonese lessons. Lucas: We'll see you next time. Bye bye! Luna: 拜拜!
