- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast This is spoil Me, covering one Piece episodes
- 0:13four eighty one, four eighty two, and four eighty three. Ace rescued
- 0:25Whitebeard's final order, the Power that Can Burn even fire, a Kainu's ruthless
- 0:32pursuit, and then looking for answers firefist, Ace dies on the battlefield.
- 0:42I'm real glad I didn't read the titles to these episodes. Wow, they
- 0:46just tell you, Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone.
- 1:08I am Natasha, Hello, and I'm Flouria. Yay, Florian is here
- 1:15joining me today? Yeah, oh thanks for having me. Got up.
- 1:25Even in the intro, I was like, oh, I have to be
- 1:26quiet, like I thought. I really thought, like i'd like text her,
- 1:32be like, God, do not read the episode titles. But then
- 1:37I was like it would be too suspicious, so I didn't text you.
- 1:41You know, it wouldn't like I encourage you to tell me not to just
- 1:46because sometimes it's not this huge an event, but it still is something that
- 1:51sort of ruins, like a punchline or a reveal, you know, so
- 1:55like being suspicious, don't worry about it, you know, Like I think,
- 1:59go for it, But I am really glad because sometimes I can't help,
- 2:04like I read it before I realize i've read it, you know,
- 2:07just because I'm trying to find my spot where I left off last time,
- 2:10and I'm so glad that I never needed to do that this time. I
- 2:15was like, very sure, number only where I left off, and so
- 2:20I didn't need to read the title and like refresh, you know. I
- 2:23think also having covered an episode earlier this week instead of it being just like
- 2:29last week, so I had just watched and I knew right where I was
- 2:34because of that as well. But I can't believe that they literally just say
- 2:38it, which is just truly beyond I did that, heal. I did
- 2:43tell you in the very first episode where I was also guest. I told
- 2:47you, yeah, there will be spoilers in the title, like Lufy will
- 2:51die, and it was not Lufy I was talking about there. But yeah,
- 2:57yeah, so yeah, first question, Yeah, I don't I don't
- 3:02have to ask this, but yeah, why why did you want to join
- 3:07me today just to mock my pain? Is that why you? Sick?
- 3:10Fucks? All of you exactly? That's why we need a little much more
- 3:16time to talk about this you know, oh my god, So from your
- 3:23reaction, how many what's the percentage like of Ace actually being dead? I'm
- 3:30just going to ask. I'm giving it one hundred percent. I buy that
- 3:34he's dead. If he's not, I'm gonna be pissed. Like I believe
- 3:39that he is, and I don't usually believe it, but it just felt
- 3:46that felt like a real dead scene. It was basically and a death scene
- 3:51that lasted a whole episode. And the other times that I have thought somebody
- 3:58was dead and it turned that they weren't, it was a side character and
- 4:04you don't actually see them expire. You see them like fall or you know,
- 4:11something happens and it's like their eyes go white, but it's a sort
- 4:15of well what does that mean exactly? And this really felt decisive to me,
- 4:19like that that feels like Ace is gone. And I really, you
- 4:27guys, I just edited the episode one before, the one before this one
- 4:33where I said, this is the first time I'm starting to wonder if Lukey's
- 4:38even going to save Ace this time, Like I am beginning to think he
- 4:42might not win, and I have never worried about that before. So of
- 4:46course, when he gets rescued, I thought, we're all good. Of
- 4:54course, what are you are such a dick? I hope you're watching this.
- 5:04I'm going to release to this a lot of times. Yeah, I
- 5:13think. I hope nobody gets mad at me, and I hope you trust
- 5:15me as a co host, like being not my first time here. But
- 5:21yeah, is that he will he will never meet Brook, he will never
- 5:27meet Frankie, he will never set a foot on the sunny. He's gone
- 5:31gone. I can't believe, after all this, this is how he dies.
- 5:41Like it's not even just the fact that they rescued him and he dies
- 5:44after being rescued, which is really mean in and of itself, but it's
- 5:48also it felt like he had a much bigger role to play directly in Lufy's
- 5:55story. And not that this isn't hugely a acting movie story, but it's
- 6:01the you know, the rescue of him is affecting his story. I thought,
- 6:06Ace, I don't think he would join the straw Hats, but I
- 6:10think that I was expecting there to be another plot line that involved him somehow
- 6:18accomplishing a goal on behalf of white Beard or maybe you know, maybe he's
- 6:25the captain. Now look at me, But I just didn't think, after
- 6:32having spent really such a little amount of time with Ace ever, that this
- 6:38would be the end of him already. If it's very sudden, it seems
- 6:42to me, you know, yeah, definitely. I mean, but do
- 6:48you feel like we will see more of him, like in a different way.
- 6:57I was wondering if there was something that he'd been up to and we'll
- 7:00see like flashbacks or something like that, Like maybe because he's clearly been doing
- 7:06shit, you know, like we have kept sort of cutting to him in
- 7:12the midst of battles and confrontations and stuff, and we've hadn't gotten a ton
- 7:17of info about what was going on with all of those, so we may
- 7:23wind up having to sort of piece things together that were happening before. And
- 7:29that's sort of what I'm thinking. But it's just not the same, No,
- 7:34It's just like it maybe even will hurt more depending on what we we'll
- 7:41find out, you know, Jessica says, now you make me sad.
- 7:46I wanted to see how much Loofy and his crew have grown yet, Like
- 7:49you get one moment in these three episodes where he says, Lufy, you've
- 7:55gotten a lot tougher, I think is what he says, like, you
- 7:58know, it's the one moment of acknowledgment, like you've grown up, blow
- 8:03bro, you know, And that's all that we get after everything. And
- 8:09I can't help but be like, is this gonna make Loofy become stronger somehow?
- 8:15Like has Ace been fridged? And I'm not really using that term here
- 8:20because it's not the same obviously, but like, is this loss going to
- 8:26spur him on to do something else bigger and badder eventually? I don't know.
- 8:33I don't Loofy has never experienced a loss like this that I know of,
- 8:43you know, Like, we still don't really know who his mother was,
- 8:48right. We found out what happened with Ace's mother and that she somehow
- 8:54held him in for like a year and a half and then gave birth,
- 9:00but we don't We still haven't got any info in Lufy's mom, right,
- 9:03No, Like, in general, Lufy's past is still somewhat nebulous. We
- 9:07have the paths with Shanks, but honestly, how did he end up there
- 9:13like in this bar kind alone? Yeah, and Garb was somewhat in his
- 9:18past, but also there we have not a lot of details going on,
- 9:26so I can't say that, like, well, Lufy lost his mother because
- 9:31I don't know what happened with his mother. I don't know if he was
- 9:33close to her, ever knew her, if he experienced the loss of her
- 9:37first hand. So like, for the most part, like Lufy's gone through
- 9:43a lot of challenges, but he has almost always come out ahead almost every
- 9:50single time. And to have like technically succeeded here but not when it comes
- 9:58down to I feel like this has to really change who he is. I
- 10:05hope it does. Like it's not like I'm like, let's change Loofy because
- 10:09I don't like him, But I mean this sort of thing as a person,
- 10:13would change you. It's just kind of part of like getting older and
- 10:18realizing that you can do everything right and it still doesn't matter, you know,
- 10:24Like that's a really hard realization that you come to as you get older,
- 10:30because as a kid, you're fed a lot of stories about how,
- 10:33you know, you just have to work hard and you just have to follow
- 10:35the rules and you just have to put your heart and soul into it and
- 10:39you'll always win. And then you finally get to a point where that isn't
- 10:45how it works anymore. And I kind of feel like I don't I wonder
- 10:50how he's gonna fucking see Garp now because Garplake let Lufy land a punch to
- 11:01save Ace. But then this fight, Garb, it felt to me,
- 11:07lets himself get taken down again so that he can't intervene mm hmm. And
- 11:16I don't know. I don't know if Lufy is gonna be able to forgive
- 11:22that or not, like it's going to be able to forgive himself for that
- 11:28or not. Like you know, I don't know, man, is this
- 11:31gonna be a heel turn for Garb? Is he gonna be a pirate?
- 11:35Now? I don't know, Like he's hot none. Nevertheless, well,
- 11:43the thing is, I mean, I get what you mean. But also
- 11:48basically a moment where Garb gets into movement, it's already done, I think,
- 11:52Like it's true. Yeah, so it's kind of like he is not
- 11:58on a prove went in way but on a revenge way. Yeah, Like
- 12:05that's that's what gets him going. And I maybe I've said this before,
- 12:09but I feel just Garb is one of the most interesting characters, you know,
- 12:18because I have seen like a lot of different opinions, Like some people
- 12:22really like him, some people like cannot forgive and cannot forgive him like basically
- 12:26for not stepping up here, you know, and I can see like both
- 12:31sides or like just in general it is like just a messing way, you
- 12:37know. Yeah, yeah, Garb is like I the very reason that I
- 12:46like him, the fact that he seems to really believe in the Marines,
- 12:54is also the reason that I don't like him, because really, you really
- 12:58believe in the Marines, mom, man, get the fuck out of here.
- 13:01Like it's like a guy who's like a good hearted cop. Yeah no,
- 13:05though you're a cop though, and you suck and that's all there is
- 13:09to it. You're part of this bullshit. You know, the bullshit's happening,
- 13:13and you're still part of it. And then you try and act like,
- 13:16oh, all of you pirates are no more or less corrupt than the
- 13:20Marines just when it comes down to it, like they're just not. And
- 13:22So while I admire that he seems to try and like stick to what he
- 13:28believes by not getting involved, I also feel like you have a really silly,
- 13:39childish understanding if you really do believe what you believe, and I can't
- 13:46respect that. So sort of the energy I like but where it's directed.
- 13:56I'm just like, that's not completely headed in the wrong place, you know,
- 14:03mm hmm. Yeah, that's what I was white Beard's final order,
- 14:18because we pick up with uh, I mean, white Beard's in really,
- 14:22really bad shape. He is already in the previous episodes basically been like I
- 14:26may not make it out of this, guys, So if I don't,
- 14:30y'all better throw in behind Loofy. And we pick up with Ace and Loofy
- 14:39like descending like a ball of fire from the heavens onto. I was gonna
- 14:48say the ground. I guess it's the ground of this, you know,
- 14:52it's just talking about this. This place is so strange because it's just it
- 14:58feels like it was really built on a It feels like killer bark, almost
- 15:05like it's a free floating you know what I mean. Yes, no,
- 15:09I get what you mean. I mean, I don't know for sure,
- 15:13but I feel like it's just like it feels like a giant rock and they
- 15:18build onto that rock, you know, like it's not quite floating, but
- 15:22it is definitely not like there's more man made than natural landscaping going on.
- 15:31Definitely. Yeah. But I actually one time I just a little side thing.
- 15:37You, what is the biggest place that you have ever been to,
- 15:41like man made place? And I don't speak about height, I mean,
- 15:46like really the area right well in Texas, I live right near Lake Texoma,
- 15:54which is the largest man made lake in the United States, So probably
- 16:02that counts, but it's like a weird one because I've only been to like
- 16:07the shoreline of one section of it, you know what I mean. Otherwise
- 16:15it would probably have to be the arena where I saw Beyonce perform. That
- 16:19was huge. I have never been in a building that size that could hold
- 16:26that many people, because it was a sold out show and I think it
- 16:30was like eighty one thousand people. It was slow beyond when Rashan and I
- 16:37stepped out and saw, because like we were in the nosebleeds, like as
- 16:41far away from the stage as as possible to get, and it was this
- 16:47very steep seating so that your feet were behind the head of the person sitting
- 16:52in front of you, So the stairs were very, very steep, and
- 16:57something about that made it all the more visible, just the space because you
- 17:06there wasn't that sort of flat line of seats extending forward. It was like
- 17:10you were standing on the edge of a cliff looking out and yeah, so
- 17:14that was probably the biggest building I've been in. What about you? Yeah,
- 17:25well, first of all, I just asked because like a few episodes
- 17:27ago ago, you said like you have like no like really sense of space
- 17:33sometimes in this art, you know, and and there are like so many
- 17:37people and you're like like I don't know, somebody like white Beard attacks and
- 17:42it seems like half the people should go flying, but then there are more
- 17:45others there. I had to drink off. It's just I have to be
- 17:52in two places well actually almost free that have this feeling here in Europe are
- 17:57like some castles like the Versailles in France, France in like where near Paris,
- 18:08and you will not believe, like when you walk there, it is
- 18:11just huge mangers like really the space like just it is insanity, like you
- 18:18cannot like I cannot really tell you because I have been to concerts, like
- 18:23you know, like outdoor concerts like that were huge and you could have like
- 18:27fit three of those just in the plaza alone. It is huge. The
- 18:33same in Austria, like in Vienna, there have also like a huge enormous
- 18:40thing and the other one is a setter one. It's like I was one
- 18:45times at the concentration camp in Germany, and that is like when you walk
- 18:52out there and you just see all these area, just all the space,
- 18:56and you know this was filled with people, you know, like yeah,
- 19:02you see pictures where they're all cramped there, and it's like this is insanity,
- 19:07Like this is huge here, and so like we humans can make like
- 19:15big areas like where it's just like concrete or like rubble off the ground,
- 19:19like we can do that. Yeah, it is kind of humbling to see
- 19:23at times. That's right, Like I'm going to try and keep in mind
- 19:29the the arena that I saw her in because when put in that context,
- 19:36yeah, you could send like dozens of people flying every five minutes and you
- 19:41wouldn't get through half of the people there, Like that would be very easy
- 19:45to do. So thank you that helps. Actually, Yeah, yeah,
- 19:52sometimes big numbers are like difficult to imagine it really, yeah, it really
- 19:57is. You need some contexts somehow. Yeah, and they they fall down
- 20:07and they're trying to take aim at them while they're falling, and it's just
- 20:17so like it's so sad. It's just dispatches. This whole group almost with
- 20:22no effort. It feels like to me, I couldn't help laughing though,
- 20:26because like he lands on his feet and movie lands on his feet, and
- 20:30then mister three is just like crumpled up in the back with his legs in
- 20:34the air and his glasses fall off, and I'm just like real sad,
- 20:40like he did is he did, he was clutch You know, we wouldn't
- 20:44be here without mister three. And I do enjoy the fact that he has
- 20:47turned out to be like really instrumental considering how much I hated him. I
- 20:51really hated him so much, that's the word to say, like the first
- 20:56time, like the first time meeting him, really disliked him, and it
- 21:03kind of pains me to say. I think, like I talked about this
- 21:04the last time at Imple down where I was around, I do like him.
- 21:08Like he's like really rushing in a way. It's just like, Okay,
- 21:14you have been clutched like several times now, so yeah, okay,
- 21:18you can stay. I think like this is like when we get like some
- 21:26cool fight scene with Louvie and Ace being side by side. Yeah, just
- 21:33fucking shit up essentially, Yeah, basically, and you know everybody is like
- 21:41all right, well, we're gonna try and hit Ace, but don't forget
- 21:48that he is a logier type, which basically means his body is fire,
- 21:52and so he's going to be very difficult to hit. And I did kind
- 21:56of think to myself, it feels like a losing strategy to even try and
- 22:02hit him at this point, Like, why is that the method that you
- 22:07would go with? I am curious and I don't know if this is anything.
- 22:12But like when you're dealing with crocodile and you get water on him,
- 22:18that sucks up with his power, right, does that happen with Ace?
- 22:23If you get water on him, with him being like fire made of fire,
- 22:29does that do anything to like dampen pun intended his abilities. That's a
- 22:36good question. I would guess, yes, I would think so right,
- 22:42Yeah, but maybe not as effective I guess against crocodile. But I don't
- 22:48know for sure, because the thing is with water, when it comes right
- 22:52down to it, it is actually the weakness of all the devil fruits,
- 22:56you know, And yeah, true so, but particular for crocodile, but
- 23:03maybe also particular for Ace. So's I was just thinking that maybe they should
- 23:07just get some fire hoses instead of guns, and that might actually be a
- 23:12better bet. Like it also may not work, but I feel like I
- 23:17would be more confident in that than I would regular guns considering and like,
- 23:22they try and fire it and it goes like worse than they even could have
- 23:26expected. Because first of all, let's just talk about the fact that these
- 23:30guys are gathered around, these dudes in a circle and fire, which is
- 23:36already What are you doing, dudes, You're basically firing at your own guys
- 23:41across the circle from you, which is already just there. But then it
- 23:47doesn't hit Ace and Loofy with his like weird boing powers, catches all of
- 23:55the bullets and shoots them back at them. And you again, should have
- 24:00seen that coming. Guys, You've seen him do this a few times.
- 24:06How are you still being caught off guard by this? You have to find
- 24:10a new way to handle some of these dudes. The Marines are not flexible,
- 24:15they don't adapt. No, they's just following oders. I guess,
- 24:22I guess it's weak. Jessica says, the water might evaporate before hitting him.
- 24:29That's possible. I just want to see, you know, I'm just
- 24:32curious, Like maybe there's only so much water he could evaporate and then it
- 24:36would be it would get through. Maybe there's like a sheer amount that would
- 24:41wind up being effective, but anything less than that wouldn't. I don't know.
- 24:45I'm just curious. But now we'll never know, will wait? So
- 24:49well, oh no, I'm just going to ask this because we're on the
- 24:52topic, Well will we never know? Like do you feel like that's totally
- 24:59a guess? But do the devil fruits reappear? Because there we have only
- 25:08ever seen like one kind of devil fruit, you know, like only one
- 25:11gugung fruit one like I don't know, firefruit, you know, at the
- 25:15time. But once this he dies, does this devil fruit like reappear somehow
- 25:22or is it just like once in yons or I don't know. I don't
- 25:27know. I don't really get the way that devil fruit work anyway, Like
- 25:33we have been given so little information about that we have and it was his
- 25:41like the firefire fruit. Yeah, I feel like it's the flare flare.
- 25:47I feel like it's I feel like because the thing that I keep sort of
- 25:53getting hung up on with devil fruits is like where do they appear? And
- 26:00because each of the fruits does a different thing. The fruits each look slightly
- 26:04different, right, Yeah, But do the trees that the fruits grow on
- 26:11look different from each other? Or does the same looking tree produce different looking
- 26:18fruits? And does it produce more than one fruit? Can you basically like
- 26:25grow a devil fruit tree by planting a devil fruit and then get more devil
- 26:33fruits from that like an animal crossing? Yes, exactly, Yes, thank
- 26:40you. Now we're speaking a language I understand perfect right, We I mean
- 26:45this. You guess as good as any I would say at this point,
- 26:49because we really have not gotten any real informations about the But I just was
- 26:56curious what you're thinking about that. I feel like it would if another fruit
- 27:04like his were to reappear, that would indicate a sentience I was never expecting
- 27:12from the devil fruits. That would be like how I'm operating right now is
- 27:18that devil fruits are basically still sort of like a biological phenomenon, even though
- 27:25what they amount to is magic. It feels like, oh, but there's
- 27:27like a pseudoscience kind of thing back behind it. But if a new fruit
- 27:33appears just because he has died, that is straight up magic. That's going
- 27:40to change how I see them, you know what I mean. So,
- 27:45and that's not a bad thing. It's just like going to be a different
- 27:49a different way of thinking about them. I just really it's kind of wild
- 27:53how deep we are into this so far and we still don't have any info
- 27:57on devil fruits, and I feel nobody is really asking about them, Like
- 28:02I'm so sorry, But if you lived in a world where these existed,
- 28:06wouldn't you be absolutely fucking obsessed with them? Wouldn't you want to know everything?
- 28:11Wouldn't you just be like, I mean, how are there more folks
- 28:18just clamoring to understand them and find more of them? It just feels so
- 28:25it's not like devil fruits aren't highly prized, because they are, but because
- 28:32they're so highly prized, you would think that people would be out there seeking
- 28:37them in a much more organized and specific way. And we haven't seen any
- 28:42of that. And that's not to say it's not happening, but it isn't
- 28:47at all, Like at the forefront of the story, And really, when
- 28:52it comes down to it, fuck a one piece, where's the devil fruits?
- 28:59Get me the Oh? That would be much more what I'm like,
- 29:02money, sure, but if you've got these kinds of powers, it feels
- 29:04like you can just then get money somehow because you have these powers. Like
- 29:10that's you know, it just feels sort of like you're really focusing on a
- 29:15sort of mundane treasure and these powers are way more dope than like a pile
- 29:26of gold. I would just think, you know, yeah, well,
- 29:32just putting that out there. We don't really know what the warm piece is
- 29:37so true. Who knows. Maybe maybe it's all the devil fruits maybe,
- 29:44or like the devil for Island. Yeah, like one island where they all
- 29:48grow and they just fall from the tea trees into the water and then get
- 29:52out into the world somehow. Yeah, who knows, but it's a possibility.
- 30:02Or maybe somebody is manufacturing them and they're not naturally accuring at all.
- 30:06Ah, maybe it's but you are just like the one piece. Oh my
- 30:15god. Bath bombs like like elaborate breath bombs, like blood bombs. You
- 30:26drop them into your blood and they do they make you fizzy, turn you
- 30:30into fire. Okay, okay, so yeah, lots and lots and lots
- 30:36of fighting here. I love Ace's fire gun. I don't know why,
- 30:40but the fact that it's you basically just do the motion for finger guns that
- 30:47you do when you're just like hey, like that really cracks me up.
- 30:51It's very very funny to me. And I just want to mention, like,
- 30:57you know, as this fire firefight, I didn't mean food that to
- 31:03be the thing, but yes, as this is happening, there isn't even
- 31:08an inkling for me that Ace isn't making it out of this. Like this
- 31:12is fully feeling like we are reaching the end of this arc and Ace is
- 31:22on his way to escaping and now we're gonna be doing a whole thing with
- 31:27him. Like the whole energy of this feels like we're winding down. Now
- 31:33that he's out, he's getting to let loose and get a little bit of
- 31:38revenge. I don't want to call it that because I don't feel like he
- 31:41sees it that way, but you know, he's just getting to let loose
- 31:45finally after being in prison like he was, and I just never ever thought.
- 31:55So we have like the flashback of him and Loofy baby Lou in his
- 32:00tiny baby hat, his sequins like they are running and you see their shadows.
- 32:07It's and then it turns to the present and it's just symbolism. I
- 32:14just know it. Yeah, and his brother that you've gotten pretty tough.
- 32:22Yeah, and uh, Lufy just he doesn't really respond. He just is
- 32:25like thanks, you know, because the two of them fighting together, it's
- 32:31clear like Ace has always been the strength between the two of them. Lufy's
- 32:37been fighting to catch up for a long time. It feels like, yeah,
- 32:43and I find it interesting. Well, I was thinking, like,
- 32:45do you did do anything suspect going into these episodes, like knowing that it's
- 32:52going to be a wannabe or like when you already said I really thought it
- 32:59was going to be the death of somebody like Garb or or even white Beard
- 33:06or you know, like a side guy, which still would have been sad,
- 33:12like it would have felt that like it would have felt warranted to have
- 33:19a wannabe to talk about that, because they Garb dying would be a big
- 33:22deal, you know. But yeah, I just didn't think it was gonna
- 33:27be Ace himself like that just that just would feel too mean spirited to me.
- 33:35Yeah, I know, when I rewroted this episode, it was like,
- 33:38oh, it actually like if you like the first one or like the
- 33:42first and half one. It actually could feel like that white Beard is going
- 33:49to die because he does say like like he sends his people on basically and
- 33:53yeah, or wants to make like a last grand stand and granted he is
- 33:58or like he's still doing that when at the end, but yeah, you
- 34:00know it is That's actually what I was first thinking seeing is like, oh,
- 34:07he's gonna die and then all of us up. No, it's it's
- 34:10that I was like, what the fuck. Yeah, it's a real sense
- 34:15of like the potential of his I mean, he's straight up says that he
- 34:23has sort of accepted that he may die here, you know, So it
- 34:28just felt like that was being projected and I'm sure that's on purpose, but
- 34:31yeah, rude, can you call this a red herring? I don't know,
- 34:38Yeah, yeah, I think so. Or misdirect I guess, yeahs
- 34:45direct? Yeah yeah. So what's the name of ice Sky is that?
- 34:52You know? You know, it's the love of Okay, he's the one
- 35:01that actually kills Ace so akg shows up and he does pheasant beak, which
- 35:12I have to say is one of the weaker sounding attacks, Like it is
- 35:15dope looking, and they clearly are very effective against one another, but it
- 35:23just sounds like pheasant beak, Like you couldn't pick any other bird that looks
- 35:30a little bit more threatening. A pheasant is like a very pudgy, edible
- 35:37bird. It just doesn't hit you know. That's like being like hen's tooth,
- 35:43Like I don't know, I don't feel it. I want even if
- 35:47you did, something like a griffin or an eagle would be very easy.
- 35:52Falcon falcon, I think would be dope, you know, but it looks
- 35:59impressive, it's very cool, But I just feel like that name needs some
- 36:02workshopping. That's all absolutely it is. I mean, I'm just gonna say
- 36:08it is like he's epithet or like part of his like he's called like the
- 36:15blue pheasant. Apparently. Yeah, it's not a it's not really good.
- 36:22It is like I'm trying to think of like a bird that you associate with
- 36:27ice, and I'll like come up with his penguin, which isn't actually that
- 36:30much better. So no, I don't know. Yeah, and yeah,
- 36:37but that kind of suits him because he is like I mean, like I
- 36:39can see like an igleo on hawk, but that would be like almost too
- 36:44aggressive or like before for his character, you know, like he's mentality basically,
- 36:51Yeah, I agree with that. So let's let's do a little detour
- 36:58here and talk about Buggy. Oh yeah, Buggy is out here just hovering
- 37:07on the sidelines and waiting for everybody to sort of finish each other off or
- 37:14like get to the end stage when then he can step in and sort of
- 37:19take credit right for like taking one or more of these people down. And
- 37:28they still have the poor little transponder snail and this thing. I love it.
- 37:37It turns out like Buggy is glad that it's not transmitting because he doesn't
- 37:44want people like seeing that he's not doing anything right now and not participating.
- 37:49But when they're trying to get the snail to work and they're like yelling at
- 37:52it, it's you go inside it shell where it's hiding, and you see
- 37:59its face. It's reacting to them talking about putting it back in like the
- 38:02salt water and stuff. And then but oh my god, I almost said
- 38:09Buffy. Buggy says something about how like, guys, you're being really unsympathetic
- 38:16and this this snail is just trying to do its job. It doesn't even
- 38:21want to be here, probably reporting on everything that's happening is very traumatic and
- 38:27you need to have a little bit more compassion. And the snail, which
- 38:31he's like trying to make excuses so that they don't film anymore. The snail
- 38:37hears him and is like, oh my god. It gets all like teary
- 38:42eyed and then comes back out of his shell, which Buggy does not want
- 38:46because it feels so grateful that Buggy has been so considerate of it, which
- 38:52I feel like is one of my favorite jokes they have ever done. I
- 38:55don't know why, but this is just like, it's just the that,
- 39:00like this, this, the snails are so inconsequential. They're they're just around
- 39:07and they don't even feel like living things most of the time, even though
- 39:10they are. Yeah, and so it's just very unexpected that like this snail's
- 39:17personality and it's its needs would play such like a key role in this because
- 39:22then it decides that it is going to film Buggy and let me tell you,
- 39:27guys, it is underwhelming. Buddy has nothing to say. He keeps
- 39:34repeating that he's just a legend. At one point, they use a filter
- 39:38that makes him look wacky. I'm very happy about it. I feel like
- 39:45this do they say they use a filter or like it says, yeah,
- 39:49I use that filter in the dub. I don't know if it's a sub
- 39:52that's what they say. I probably, but I just in my mind it
- 39:57was not a filter. It was just like Bucky using his powers and I
- 40:00kind of you know, he can chop himself up, so he kind of
- 40:04chopped himself up and then like reformed like he's outsides, so he would look
- 40:09like pixelated. I don't know, my god, but that's what I mentioned
- 40:15there and the dub he's like, yeah, yeah, use that filter that
- 40:19looks flashy, that's what he says. Okay then, but yeah, everybody
- 40:28who's like watching this is like, what we don't care about Buggy, what's
- 40:34happening with the prisoner? What's let us see what's going on? And uh,
- 40:40it's weird because like he wants he says, he wants to get on
- 40:45camera to show off initially, but he he doesn't want to actually get involved
- 40:52because he feels so like outmatched by everybody here. So I don't know why
- 40:58you wouldn't just direct the camera to what everybody else is up to just to
- 41:01like get the focus off you if you do feel like you can't measure up.
- 41:07Don't stand in front of the camera and make it super obvious that you're
- 41:10not involved in the fighting at all, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 41:15not fake it till you make it. There's that as well. Yeah,
- 41:23I just really like the whole sequence though, Yeah, no, it
- 41:27is. It is funny, like Buggy is kind of I mean, he
- 41:31was already imput down the parts of comedic relief, but it's just done so
- 41:37well. So I'm not mad at it, Like it's just so, you
- 41:40know, like that's how you do it. You know. Yes, I
- 41:46think one thing that we were not skipto ward. But I don't want to
- 41:54talk too much about this character. But Squat I hate his name. I
- 42:00hate his name. We don't have to talk a lot about him. But
- 42:06he just shows up on the ship on a like suicide mission and white Beard
- 42:12is like, Mmm, your stupid bitch, Yeah, what are you doing?
- 42:20No this dude, sit your ass down. I can't believe how after
- 42:29everything, it's like he's still correct me if I'm wrong. But it seems
- 42:36like he thinks since I broke trust with white Beard, now I have to
- 42:42stick to it. Which why like he's clearly willing to forgive you. It
- 42:50feels like to me, I don't know if it's supposed to be the scuore
- 42:52just has so much pride that he won't accept that, or if I'm misunderst
- 43:00the situation. I mean the situation is that Squad was wanting to sacrifice himself
- 43:07for white Beard and like for the rest of the crew. Okay, because
- 43:13just because then like at one point, why You're saying, don't you know
- 43:16what it's like to have to kill one of your own sons? Like how
- 43:22dare you? And I was sort of like, wait, what, No,
- 43:25he I think what he says is like putting one of your sons,
- 43:31like basically being at the funeral, which I get what you mean with like
- 43:37it sounds like he is going make the funeral happen, but no, it's
- 43:42like it is meant more like you are killing yourself in front of me,
- 43:46you know, like how devastated that makes me feel, like seeing you die
- 43:52because of me, Like for me, Yeah, that's what makes white Beard
- 43:57upset because he doesn't want any of his boys to die. He just doesn't
- 44:00want even though I Squirt can die if you ask me, because because I'm
- 44:07sorry, like you stepped this man, and yeah, he basically forgave you.
- 44:14And I don't know, like this feels like really self centric, you
- 44:16know, like still really egotistical. Is that the word? Like basically I
- 44:22have to make things right and sacrifice myself. Oh sorry, that was my
- 44:25chair. I don't know if you heard that. Fine, I have also
- 44:30got a very noisy chair. And yeah, I was just like like,
- 44:35basically, get over yourself, like you're not that important, Like yeah,
- 44:40but yeah, there's just something about like the fact that this is even going
- 44:45on still that I was like, so your part and this feels over.
- 44:47Can you just let it go? And it's not about you anymore? Like
- 44:52absolutely re cares. But I feel like, I mean probably like from a
- 44:57story writing perspect if, this is included to really give more to white Beard
- 45:06as well, Like basically this is after this is like the moment where he's
- 45:10like sending them all like it's like giving his speech that he will stay behind
- 45:16and they shall move on. I I guess that was like the trigger for
- 45:23that. Yeah. I think you're right. It's just also to emphasize like
- 45:30what a good guy he is and that he's you know, still cut up
- 45:37at the idea of losing this guy even though he betrayed you. We actually
- 45:44I wonder if you caught that, but we do see white Beard as a
- 45:49young white Beard in I think the second episode, Yes they did, did
- 45:54you catch that? Okay? Good because basically this see that sinoir that they
- 46:00got a lot of treasure, like apparently he's crudd like he did not have
- 46:05his own crew, it seemed like, and he is not interested in the
- 46:08treasure. And they ask him, well, why are you a pirate then?
- 46:15And we do as the audience, do not get the answer. Do
- 46:20you have any He's just like gaazing out at the at the ocean thoughtfully,
- 46:24do you have any idea what the answer would be or could be? I
- 46:30don't know, because what it feels like to me is that this dude deciding
- 46:39like I'm gonna call everybody my son, is trying to fill a hole in
- 46:45his life, you know. And I don't know if he actually lost a
- 46:51son or maybe a whole family and he's decided like I'm gonna make a family
- 46:55or I'm gonna maybe he was abandoned and he was like, I'm gonna be
- 47:01the father that I wish I had, you know, on behalf of other
- 47:07people, But it definitely feels like the way he operates presently is definitely coming
- 47:16from some place like very very personal, because that kind of commitment to it,
- 47:21where you're even willing to forgive somebody who literally just stabbed you in the
- 47:24heart or tried to like that is that's coming from a really deep well of
- 47:31emotion. And yeah, if he's not worried about the treasure, like the
- 47:38treasure was the friends we made along the way, That's what it seems like
- 47:44to me. And I do think it's funny that, like everybody is just
- 47:49so puzzled by him one of them. I can't. I'm so sorry you
- 47:52guys. I know this is really really imature, but anytime somebody is like,
- 47:55how can you not care about the booty? I can't help but snicker
- 48:00to myself a little bit. There's just that's funny. I'm so sorry.
- 48:07Yeah said to that, just a little little shout out to I think the
- 48:12last episode where it was like bossing you foolish misshaped manchild, that was such
- 48:21a you said it, and I just that's just a great line, Like,
- 48:25yeah, I listened to these episodes also, like the once before that
- 48:30I was like, that's a great line. And then I listened to your
- 48:32podcast and it's like that's a great line, and like, yeah, I
- 48:37literally like, Unfortunately, because of the way that the protections work for Hulu,
- 48:42if you try and screenshot something, you only get the subtitle and the
- 48:45whole screen is black. They don't like screenshot the actual image. I don't
- 48:50know if it would work if I tried to use like funimation or something.
- 48:53But I tried to screenshot it and it was only the subtitle that came up,
- 48:59and I was like, I don't care, and I sent it to
- 49:00Canvas anyway, and I was like, new insult, just shrupped your foolish
- 49:05misshapen manchild is going into the arsenal. That's that on that. Yeah,
- 49:12absolutely. I feel like this is a moment where then everybody is like,
- 49:22no, we cannot leave you behind. White Beer have father, and I
- 49:29feel like we get a moment where Ace is looking back and shooting some fire,
- 49:36not at white Beard, but like I think, at some marines around
- 49:38him, and I feel like then we get like this really cool sequence the
- 49:43two of them like surrounded by flames, and the flames like turning blue or
- 49:49bluish. I feel like, yeah, this is also when like okay,
- 49:55you know, sort of steps forward and starts to get involved in things just
- 50:00like he is just sort of this guy. This guy took me by surprise
- 50:07because like we haven't seen him before, have we, Like like I'm sure
- 50:15we have seen him like at meetings that sort of thing, but we haven't
- 50:19seen him fighting, have we? We have not seen him fighting. But
- 50:25I'm gonna tell you a little bit something about Okay, way back and on
- 50:32O'Hara, which is the island Robbing grew up on, and I feel like
- 50:39you will remember what happened to that island. It got blessed to bits by
- 50:45the Marines, and there was an equation evacuationship creation, evacuations, evacuation,
- 50:57yes, evacuation okay, good, where like the citizens of this island were
- 51:04on you know, right, And one of the vice admirals was like,
- 51:10no, we have like nobody can leave, and we shoot his materfac town.
- 51:15And Robin stands on the island and sees like her like everybody that she
- 51:22knows, not everybody, but just like people from the island like basically all
- 51:25on that one chip dying. That vice admiral was okay, you know that's
- 51:32him. Oh okay, So basically he was he ancient now and he wasn't
- 51:40ship dead, you know, he's just that's how he rolls. So that's
- 51:46something that that's something you real on a rewatch or re read, you will
- 51:53come across that it's like, oh, that's that guy. Oh yeah,
- 51:57no, I already didn't like you, and now I yeah, yeah.
- 52:02And he like the fact that he is the one that takes Ace down because
- 52:07he just hasn't been. I would have expected it to be somebody that we
- 52:15personally have dealt with before, like AOPG, you know, like someone that
- 52:22we have had firsthand experience with running into the crew and having to deal with
- 52:30them, and so the threat of that person and the abilities that they have
- 52:35would become really established in our minds, and when they took Ace down,
- 52:45it would feel like, okay, well, this person was brought into the
- 52:47story so that we would like get a chance to get to know who they
- 52:52are and what they're capable of, and that way when we eventually reached this
- 52:54point. But it's it's really surprising to me that he is the one who
- 53:04actually kills Ace, because I felt like he has not felt like a huge
- 53:12presence at all, even in this fight, like he has done some dope
- 53:16shit with his wild like fist comments. I don't know what else to call
- 53:22those, So don't get me wrong, Like it's not like he isn't active,
- 53:28but this is really the first time I've ever seen him doing anything is
- 53:34this arc. So for him to be the one that's responsible for taking Ace
- 53:37down, I just wouldn't have expected it to be somebody that we've only kind
- 53:42of just met in the you know, yeah, relatively speaking, just met,
- 53:47even though we've been on this arc for like months at this point,
- 53:51but it is still quite recent. So yes, yes, definitely, I
- 53:57don't in a way that makes it. It makes it I feel like more
- 54:01disrespectful, like kind of like yeah, which I mean maybe also makes sense,
- 54:08like like that's maybe what Odor wanted us to feel. Sorry, And
- 54:17just in general, I'm I mean, we are not fully like in the
- 54:23episode count, we are not halfway there, but this whole happening here,
- 54:32like this whole war going on, and I mean there are like a lot
- 54:37of big players here. You know, this is like a for considered for
- 54:43a lot of people, Like the unofficial halfway point of the story, you
- 54:46know, like okay, because it is so much going on and something really
- 54:52hugely happens is dying, which, by the way, I'm so happy that
- 54:58you didn't get spoiled on. Like literally, anybody who starts this series,
- 55:04if they get spoiled on anything, it's this. It's like that Ace dies,
- 55:07like oh wow, yeah, no, that sucks. Mm hmm,
- 55:15yeah, I mean I guess that's like when I found out where Sean didn't
- 55:17know that Snake kills Dumbledore spoilers everybody, but like, yeah, that's the
- 55:22thing that you would think everybody knows at least about Harry Potter. Mm hmm,
- 55:29No, that's that's I don't know, you know, it is kind
- 55:35of I mean, it's really cruel because it is like the joke of like
- 55:38in One Piece, nobody dies except Ace, So like that is like a
- 55:45joke that a need that floats around in the Internet, in the Roe Piece
- 55:50community and just in general a lot. Like you you can come across that
- 55:54a lot, and it is so spoilery. But yeah, yeah, I
- 56:00mean that's the best memes though, are the ones that have like a really
- 56:02massive spoiler in them. Usually, Yeah, that's that's like by the way.
- 56:06Yeah. I really try and avoid spaces that I think would have spoilers
- 56:09though, because people are very fast and loose with one piece info and imagery,
- 56:15you know, especially so absolutely. I mean it is also like a
- 56:20really visual medium, you know, like it was from the beginning, like
- 56:22even just taking the manga. Yeah, super visual. Yeah, And I
- 56:30feel like, is this when he starts to go to them, is this
- 56:37how you say that? So sorry, just again in the chats, I
- 56:43didn't know about Dumbledore think I don't plan on reading soon, sorry about it,
- 56:47but Harry Potter is by a monster, so don't read it. But
- 56:54sorry, Yeah, so I just got I'm like just scrolling through real quick.
- 57:00I'm still in the first episode in terms of like just wanting to touch
- 57:04on some of the characters, and the part where white Beard says, you
- 57:07don't you know what it's like to force a father to bury his own son.
- 57:10So that's the way that line went, and that's why I like,
- 57:13I definitely took that the wrong way. Okay, I can see that definitely
- 57:17the way that you took it, But I don't feel like that's at all
- 57:21what this meant to you. No, Yeah, once you say once you
- 57:23explain. I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, now I get it.
- 57:29Oh my god, Emperor Josu, is this the guy that gets like
- 57:32frozen? M h. I really didn't think a diamond could freeze. I
- 57:40thought it would kind of be impervious to that happening, you know, but
- 57:51let's see, Oh yeah's Lufy is arguing with with Ace about leaving because white
- 57:58Beard is beset on all sides and his plan obviously is basically to just like
- 58:06give Ace a chance to take off, and Ace isn't willing to, Like
- 58:15this guy put his entire crew and all these other crews on the line to
- 58:21save his ass, and no, he is not just going to like repay
- 58:24this dude by fucking bouncing, which I do respect, Like I couldn't do
- 58:30that either, you know, after everything, Just I don't care if you
- 58:36tell me it's okay, and you're like, that's the the whole reason I
- 58:38did this, and you can't throw your life away. I just don't think
- 58:42I could live with myself walking away while this person is about to be murdered
- 58:50by a bunch of fucking underlings too, Like he's not even at this point,
- 58:53white Beard isn't up against any big dude. He's just surrounded by regular
- 58:58marines, which is just again, no, not happening. That said,
- 59:07though, he does decide to really throw his life away in the end for
- 59:17reasons that I think are silly as shit. Yeah, Like it's one thing
- 59:27to be like, I'm I can't just let you be thrown into the meat
- 59:31grinder, but y'all are getting away, and then it's just okay to being
- 59:38like, you know, he ain't shit anyway. He's a fucking failure and
- 59:42embarrassing and that's what Ace can't let go of. Like, what are you
- 59:50What are you thinking? My guy? Literally, what do you believe is
- 59:54happening here? Because it is so obvious you are being baited like a fucking
- 1:00:00fifth grader and falling for it like you're on a playground. A child would
- 1:00:07see through this. What are you doing? And this is the thing that
- 1:00:13I always run up against with this show is that people do things for the
- 1:00:17sake of the principle, when, in my opinion, in that moment,
- 1:00:22the principle is so utterly irrelevant that it isn't it Like to me, it
- 1:00:28isn't even the principle anymore, you know, Like this is like Nami's mom
- 1:00:34being like, no, she is my child, and I'm just like,
- 1:00:36yeah, but now she doesn't have a mom because you couldn't just shut up.
- 1:00:42And I know that it's like, oh, the honor of not denying
- 1:00:45your child, but I'm sorry, that was the wrong decision and you were
- 1:00:47a fool for it and that was like actually kind of shitty and selfish and
- 1:00:53it's supposed to be this like honorable death and I'm just like, no,
- 1:00:57sorry, it's not. You were stupid. You get And there is a
- 1:01:01big part of me here with Ace that is just like, dude, not
- 1:01:06only is this dude bating you, but the whole identity of this man is
- 1:01:12that he works for the Marines and believes in what they do, which is
- 1:01:16of course that he would think somebody like white Beard is a pointless piece of
- 1:01:22shit. You aren't changing this man's entire outlook on life and just saying to
- 1:01:29him take it back or else, I come the look on, come on,
- 1:01:39let's be fucking for real. That is very very unseerious of you,
- 1:01:46Ace, Like I don't even know how you can say you value your own
- 1:01:51life at this point. If this is the kind of thing that makes you
- 1:01:53they're about to cut your head off, and you were like, well,
- 1:01:57you know, I guess this is what happened. And then here they've gone
- 1:02:00through all of this to save you and they're telling you to let it go,
- 1:02:07and now you won't. Shitty, shitty, Ace. That sucks.
- 1:02:15That was a bad move and it was selfish and it sucks. I'm mad
- 1:02:19at you over it. I'm not trying to say he's deserved to die.
- 1:02:24I'm just saying maybe a little bit he did, like thirty maybe a Yeah,
- 1:02:34I'm right there with you. You, I'm gonna I'm looking forward to
- 1:02:44hearing what you have to say about that in the future as well. I
- 1:02:51cannot say anything different. It is just interesting, arn't Yeah, we will
- 1:02:55maybe see a little bit more of his his past and maybe how he came
- 1:03:01to be such a easy manipulated maybe in a way, but in the end,
- 1:03:09it still is not a good look. Like, no matter what explanation
- 1:03:15you might find out or will it be given, bottom line, bottom line,
- 1:03:19it's not great. Yeah, it's just he But you also have to
- 1:03:27think, I always forgive, forget this. Ace is nineteen, he's nineteen,
- 1:03:35he's a child. Because what I think even even said this actually got
- 1:03:42me laughing a little bit because he was just like, all of you guys
- 1:03:45talk about how great white Beard is and you even call him Pops, but
- 1:03:52look at what's about to happen to him. He even got stabbed in the
- 1:03:55back by one of his own sons because he took my word over his.
- 1:04:02And I was like, oh, that's just factual. Though. It's like,
- 1:04:09I get that you're mad at what this guy is insinuating, but that
- 1:04:12is actual factuals like, and maybe that doesn't actually reflect on white Beard and
- 1:04:16it really is reflecting on fucking squad. Thank you. I'm just never gonna
- 1:04:26names and names with Q are just strange, aren't they? Like I don't
- 1:04:30know a lot of them, Like the it's Shrek not Shrek, but lord
- 1:04:35funk rot like fark on, yeah, that the other one is just like
- 1:04:44no, we just should Q is not supposed to be in a name.
- 1:04:49Q is a weird letter. Overall. Absolutely, there was there was,
- 1:04:59you know, I can't get into that. There was there was something the
- 1:05:00other day where somebody was I feel like it was uh one of the have
- 1:05:08you watched True Blood? No, okay, no, it's fine, it's
- 1:05:15uh the guy who plays Eric in that was like on the Colbert Show,
- 1:05:24the Late Night Show, trying to teach him how to say something in Dutch
- 1:05:29and the like twisting of the sound of the letters. I was just like,
- 1:05:34it sounds like there should be a que or something in there, but
- 1:05:39according to the subtitles where it's spelled out, that is not it. And
- 1:05:42I'm just looking at it, like, man, we just kind of make
- 1:05:44letters do whatever. Like we act like, well, we all have the
- 1:05:47same alphabet, we're functioning with the same sounds, but are like letters mean
- 1:05:51totally different things then, you know, or you just be a little like
- 1:05:57till day on it ornom laud and that like changes everything. Yeah, a
- 1:06:01little tidbit which I always found interesting, like E, the letter E in
- 1:06:08English is in German, E means I like the letter I, right,
- 1:06:15okay, so it's like not even switched because E becomes E. So it's
- 1:06:23E and E for E and I. Yes, I believe you, but
- 1:06:30that definitely just you saying it right there was difficult for me to follow.
- 1:06:36Yeah, no, no, it is just as you said, like it's
- 1:06:40the same letter but just the different language. And we already pronounce it differently,
- 1:06:44so I totally agree with what you're saying. Jessica says a lot of
- 1:06:50people have a similar reaction to Ace getting baited. I don't get angry,
- 1:06:55but on reread, I know what is coming and had time to think about
- 1:06:57it. Yeah, and it's like I get that sort of This is how
- 1:07:04the show tends to function, where people will do things because there is just
- 1:07:11like some central tenet of their personality that has to be consistent right up until
- 1:07:17their death. Like you need to show us that this is who this person
- 1:07:23is. And we all have like a character trait that could be our downfall
- 1:07:29if somebody really pressed us on it, which I actually kind of like that
- 1:07:33idea. But it's just when it's when that central character trait happens to be
- 1:07:40something like this, where it's like you get played really easily. It's very
- 1:07:45frustrating to watch. At the same time, though, as somebody who has
- 1:07:51like a really predictable reaction to being told what to do, which is to
- 1:07:58them not want to do the thing though I know it's good for me or
- 1:08:01recommended by professionals or just gonna make my life better. If I were in
- 1:08:09this show, I would die because somebody told me not to walk to the
- 1:08:14edge of that cliff, and I would be like, I can do what
- 1:08:16I want, and then I would just literally fall off the edge. It
- 1:08:19would crack under me and I would die, and everybody would be like,
- 1:08:24they fucking told you, And that would just be how I would It would
- 1:08:29be stupid death. It would be very, very dumb. Because I can
- 1:08:32be extremely childish about certain things and being like bossed, that's one of those
- 1:08:41things that I'm very immature about. We all have our thing, so I
- 1:08:46accept it, I understand it, I even respect it, but also,
- 1:08:55what the fuck is No, we have have critics, critical opinion about this,
- 1:09:04but it is so basically I just want to get I mean not just
- 1:09:12want to get through this because I want it to be over. But the
- 1:09:15thing is that actually Ace does not die necessarily because he got baited. I
- 1:09:24mean, it's part of it, but actually in the end he saves Loofy,
- 1:09:29you know that. Yes, true, that's actually what's gets the final
- 1:09:34blowing. You know. Yeah, being baited is definitely part of that,
- 1:09:41but at the end it was kind of like an act of real protection,
- 1:09:47you know, which is kind of ironic because like when he gets struck,
- 1:09:57and you see like Loofy just sort of registering on his face what just happened.
- 1:10:04He kind of one of the first things he says is like, but
- 1:10:08you said you would be here to protect me, And I was like,
- 1:10:12well he was mofy, Like that's literally what killed him is how hard he
- 1:10:19was here to protect you, Like he followed through on that. Bro,
- 1:10:25I don't know what to tell you. And it's frustrating because, like what
- 1:10:31I thought was sort of interesting here is that the reason aka Nu can hurt
- 1:10:36Ace is his magma power. Magma is hotter than fire. As it turns
- 1:10:43out, which I believe, right, that's like probably scientifically correct. Fire
- 1:10:49is not going to melt stone, but magma will. Magma is melted stone,
- 1:10:56right, Like, yeah, I wonder what the temperature is of maga.
- 1:11:00Hold on, I just want to know magma temperature between seven hundred and
- 1:11:11thirteen hundred degrees celsius twelve hundred and twenty three hundred degrees fahrenheit. Wow,
- 1:11:21that is a lot hotter than even I was expecting, my goodness. So
- 1:11:28yeah, that is why when this dude punches him, that hits and he's
- 1:11:33like coming at him at this point and Lufy's on the ground, and it
- 1:11:39feels to me like a Kayinu went at Lufy because he knew that was going
- 1:11:47to be Ace's weak spot. And I don't know if that's true or not,
- 1:11:51but that's what it looked like to me. Was like Ace is down
- 1:11:55already, and he says Loofy and is like, oh, I'm going to
- 1:11:58go after him. Then yeah, no, that's definitely also how I read
- 1:12:01it, like, okay, that's yeah. And then you see all of
- 1:12:08these like droplets floating in the air, but it's not clear at first that's
- 1:12:13what they are, because it's weird they like bounce. Yet No, these
- 1:12:17are not droplets of blood. These are like Ace wars and necklace that oh
- 1:12:26oh okay, I was not okay, I was not getting that's what that
- 1:12:30was. Yeah, and then we don't know, like as viewers, I'm
- 1:12:41watching it, I'm seeing these balls like roll by and I'm like the fuck,
- 1:12:45Like I was not understanding that was. And then you see a standing
- 1:12:50there in front of Loofy with like this giant fist coming through his chest and
- 1:12:57I was like, wait, it just it's so sudden, you know,
- 1:13:03and everybody around them the reaction. If they hadn't established already that a Kaynu
- 1:13:13could hit Ace, this wouldn't have hit for me the same way because I
- 1:13:17would have assumed Ace is fire and things go through him, so it wouldn't
- 1:13:24you know, this is just a fist going through his body the way everything
- 1:13:27else has gone through his body. But it was just established that this man
- 1:13:31can make contact, and so once I see this, I'm just like,
- 1:13:35holy shit, even like fucking buggy off to the side, It's like,
- 1:13:39Okay, that looks really bad. Honorable mention by the way to Marco who
- 1:13:45everybody is still trying to get out of these shackles. That's just like this
- 1:13:47weird ongoing thing in the background. Uh oh yeah, as an honorable mention
- 1:13:57to Chimbay, who Whiche's life flies in later, Yeah, you'd have have
- 1:14:03to fucking back off like Chimbay once again also being clouch like, yes,
- 1:14:11yeah, jim I really enjoyed Jimby. I wish that he weren't quite as
- 1:14:16earnest as he is. I wish there was like a little more humor to
- 1:14:19him, but I do enjoy him. But yeah, so this this,
- 1:14:30I mean, the injury that Ace has sustained. My immediate reaction was like,
- 1:14:36Oh, this guy's dead. And I was really surprised because at this
- 1:14:41point I really thought that I had gotten past ever believing anybody was dead.
- 1:14:45And when I looked at him, I was just kinda like, I don't
- 1:14:50see how he survives this. If the show is trying to make him survive,
- 1:14:56I am going to have a really hard time with it. And indeed
- 1:15:01there was a reason why. I mean, the wound is huge. Lufy's
- 1:15:05whole head could fit through it, you know. Okay, you knew it
- 1:15:11was like standing behind Ace and is twice the size of him. The whole
- 1:15:15three aces chest looks like it's at least eight inches across, you know.
- 1:15:20And he says, it looks like you're still alive, if only barely.
- 1:15:27I'll have to rectify that. And he fucking winds up to deal another punch
- 1:15:34again at this point, and white Beard jumps in here and he shoves his
- 1:15:43arm between who is it this time that's shooting the laser. He's trying to
- 1:15:50like step in, and Laser Man is like, we're in the middle of
- 1:15:54a fight, Bruh, what do you think you get to just walk away
- 1:15:57and help him. That's not how it's worse at all. Kissaro is the
- 1:16:01light man, Yeah, the Lisa man. He can I I just want
- 1:16:11to ask, like this whole sequence that is following, how did you like
- 1:16:15feel, whether tears in your eyes or like we've just the whole small,
- 1:16:21slow demise of ace you one could say there weren't tears in my eyes until
- 1:16:29the very end when he says thank thank you for loving me. The voice
- 1:16:34actor really went for it with his delivery at the end, because this voice
- 1:16:41actor has he can phone it in a tiny bit. He a lot of
- 1:16:45the time like he's doing a solid job, but it never feels like he's
- 1:16:50that concerned about the emotion. And it really seemed like he dialed in for
- 1:16:57this scene and knew I got to make it count. And so the tone
- 1:17:00of voice and the way he lets himself like his voice cracks and is very
- 1:17:05soft, like he can barely get it out, and he's doing this sort
- 1:17:09of almost like whistly breathing throughout. It was really really affecting. And so
- 1:17:15when he says that, especially because I had been sort of like, I
- 1:17:23don't know if this guy is really going to be dead though, once we
- 1:17:27got to this point, I was like, oh my god, he really
- 1:17:29is dead, like it's happening. So it was a combo of how convincing
- 1:17:33he was with his voice acting and the reality like actually setting in finally,
- 1:17:42and it was just such a good line because thank you for loving me on
- 1:17:46paper can feel real trite. It's it's, you know, the kind of
- 1:17:51line that it all rests on how you deliver it. You'd say the wrong
- 1:18:00way and it doesn't feel like anything. And I thought he really really made
- 1:18:06it like seem this is this guy's last words, like they matter to him,
- 1:18:14you know. So yeah, I definitely got choked up, like finally
- 1:18:17at the end. At the beginning, I wasn't willing to get choked up
- 1:18:21because I wasn't sure if I should believe it. I was just not trusting
- 1:18:25that this was happening. So yeah, that's totally fair. Like we have
- 1:18:30a moment before where like white Beard asked Ace, like before all of this
- 1:18:35happens, well, Aces bowing down to white Beard and he's like, are
- 1:18:41you just answer me? Are you happy to have me as your father?
- 1:18:45You know? And Ace is and he is or felt like an unloved child.
- 1:18:54We have seen that you know, like we have seen like his little
- 1:18:58flashbacks where he's like going around town asking about gold Rocher, like his actual
- 1:19:02dad, and nobody has anything good to say about that guy, and he
- 1:19:09just feels like, well, I guess I'm not love and I'm not supposed
- 1:19:14to be here, and these people around him just showed him that, no,
- 1:19:19you are love and we want you around here. Yeah, it is
- 1:19:26like one Pace says, like one of the big themes I feel like is
- 1:19:30just the theme of Chosen Family. It's definitely, yeah, definitely, and
- 1:19:40with Ace, you know, he got placed with the family for a while,
- 1:19:42but that person clearly was just like I just want to be able to
- 1:19:45like care for you without it always being a fucking issue, dude. So
- 1:19:49it's not like the Chosen Family happens for him right away. It takes time.
- 1:19:54He has to get older. And you know, I was going to
- 1:19:57say, like, like before that is dad On And Ace actually says to
- 1:20:04Lufy like before he dies, oh yeah, tell her like thank you or
- 1:20:11something, you know, he mentions her, and I'm just so excited for
- 1:20:19yeah, when you will finally meet dad On in some way or for me,
- 1:20:25it's going to be I'm interested in your opinions of her. Yeah,
- 1:20:30she's an interesting character that we have yet to meet. And the impression that
- 1:20:35I get of her is just like, man, I just want to make
- 1:20:39dinner and eat dinner and watch my programs and go to bed, and there's
- 1:20:44always some fucking drama with you, dude. Why Like that's the vibe I
- 1:20:47get. But I have not really met her, So who knows? And
- 1:20:57yeah, one, I mean, is there anything else you want to talk
- 1:21:01about? Specifically? Like the last scene is something that I just find really
- 1:21:09sad, Like just like Ace falls down or from Roofy's shoulder basically onto the
- 1:21:15ground and Lufy is just sitting there. And even before that, we have
- 1:21:21like a scene where everything is you have no sound, everything is quiet,
- 1:21:27and everything around them seems to not even be in slow motion, like literally
- 1:21:32stopping time. Yeah, that is like just an amazing scene. And so
- 1:21:38said, like I feel for Loofy so hard. Like I said it before,
- 1:21:43Ace is not my favorite. I like him, I definitely like him,
- 1:21:47but not at all in my top ten. Sorry but what did you
- 1:21:55say? But still, he's a great character, and especially thinking about Loofy
- 1:22:02in this context is just so heartbreaking to me, Yeah, yeah, the
- 1:22:11way that Lufy is drawn to it's just part of me being like, this
- 1:22:17is just something Lufy has never gone through because we have never seen this kind
- 1:22:21of expression on his face before. We have seen him angry, we have
- 1:22:26seen him shocked, we have seen him weld up. But this combination of
- 1:22:34disbelief and hurt and shock and rage definitely like and for me definitely like the
- 1:22:47point of him letting go of Ace, I was like, Okay, so
- 1:22:50he's accepting he's gone, because I sort of wondered if we were going to
- 1:22:56have Loofy refusing to believe it, because there's sort of a a sequence leading
- 1:23:00up to this, right after he's been punched, where everybody is being called
- 1:23:05over to see if they can do something to save him, and Lufy just
- 1:23:09doesn't want to hear it that there's nothing that can be done, and I
- 1:23:13was like, are we going to have him refusing to accept it? You
- 1:23:18know? But once he like hears Ace's last words and lets him slide to
- 1:23:25the ground, I was like, Okay, he wouldn't have let go of
- 1:23:28him like that if he didn't believe that was it. And when Ace goes
- 1:23:33down, he has like a little smile on his face just to signal like
- 1:23:40he got to say what he needed to say. And you see, also
- 1:23:43his viaver card just completely disappear into ashes. That was also like I feel
- 1:23:53like the viaver cop is actually an ingenious storytelling device and out of odor because
- 1:24:00he's like, Okay, I know you all motherfuckers out there saying, oh
- 1:24:04nobody dies, So I'm going to literally have a paper that symbolized the life
- 1:24:09of the person who is from basically, and the chi is gonna burn up
- 1:24:15and yeah, they're fucking that, you know. Like that was for me,
- 1:24:18like I see what all you're saying, like with Lufy, let him
- 1:24:23go, but like this little piece of paper burning up was for me like
- 1:24:28oh no, no, he is like this was like my last hope.
- 1:24:30I was always thinking, like, you know, we will see the card
- 1:24:32and there will be like a little Tina, but no that she is gone.
- 1:24:36It is gone gone. Yeah. Yeah. And then Lufy's crying again
- 1:24:45with like a voice actor really bringing it. The voice actor crying as Loufy.
- 1:24:50It would be it could just it could almost be funny if you did
- 1:24:57it wrong, because his voice is kind of silly. A lot of the
- 1:25:00time and having somebody with a silly voice sobbing crying, it could turn a
- 1:25:08corner to being kind of humorous even though it's not supposed to be. And
- 1:25:12I felt like she did a really good job of making it actually heart wrenching.
- 1:25:19So yeah, I just the voice actors really pulled out all the stops
- 1:25:23for this. Yeah, I actually do you know that when somebody's crying.
- 1:25:30But it also can sound like laughter in a way, especially if you don't
- 1:25:34see them, if you just hear it sometimes, and that is like something
- 1:25:41I feel like it's kind of pulled off here in a way where it's like,
- 1:25:44if you would only hear it, it almost could like feel like a
- 1:25:47manic laughter. I feel like it's not so like many crying and manic laughter
- 1:25:53are like really close neighbors. Oh yeah, have you ever laughed so hard
- 1:25:58that it's turned into crying? Have you ever had that happen? I've had
- 1:26:03that happen like twice in my life, and it was the sort of thing
- 1:26:05like as it happened, I was like, oh God, oh, something's
- 1:26:10happening. Like just I think laughter can just be such a release and it
- 1:26:15gets things rolling when you haven't let yourself feel things, and then the door's
- 1:26:20open and the rest of it comes out that you weren't planning on, you
- 1:26:25know. But then the other day, like I was in here and I
- 1:26:29was watching something with my headphones on racking up. I was laughing so hard,
- 1:26:33and Owen came rushing in all freaked out because he thought that I was
- 1:26:36like sobbing that something had happened. And I'm just sitting here like just with
- 1:26:41this huge grin. And he comes in and was like, oh, oh
- 1:26:45okay, like clearly a little irritated because he had gotten extremely worried all of
- 1:26:48a sudden. Oh he's a good boy. Well, okay, I want
- 1:26:58to ask you something, so go ahead. No, I mean yes,
- 1:27:01but it is Ace's favorite food, Kebab's. I know it's a donuts doughnut
- 1:27:14at the end, and yes, that's an answer of odor. Wow,
- 1:27:19Odor, you really are a sick fuck huh you's wrong with you? Man?
- 1:27:28Damn that's fucked up. Jesus right, Wow, that is that is
- 1:27:38grim sir ship. Wow. Oh yeah, I was just thinking of something
- 1:27:45to be easy to flame broil, you know. Wow. Really not not
- 1:27:54okay, Floren, Yeah, not okay o. But yeah, he's off
- 1:27:59his lands or so, my god, that's oh man, Yeah, all
- 1:28:14right, Well, is there anything else that you want to go over before
- 1:28:16we wrap this one up? Whooh? Not really? Just like maybe,
- 1:28:24I mean you alreadys said there you expect this shift of character in Loofy,
- 1:28:29like not maybe a total new Loofy, but just in general, like maybe
- 1:28:33besides Loofy, what do you expect for like the next episodes, any idea?
- 1:28:41I don't know. That's the thing that I'm sort of like, because
- 1:28:44you know, everything has kind of come to a screeching halt. Loofy is
- 1:28:47here in the midst of these guys who are really huge badasses, overpowered,
- 1:28:53and he has been so focused on getting Ace out that now the Ace isn't
- 1:28:58a factor anymore. It's just about Loofy and his cohorts getting out, And
- 1:29:03I'm not really sure he's gonna be that worried about that anymore. I kind
- 1:29:09of wonder if he isn't going to just get overwhelmed with wanting to take down
- 1:29:12the dude who did this Ace, and I don't want him to do that
- 1:29:18because I don't feel like he's in the headspace to take that dude on but
- 1:29:23also if you were like, well, we're going to have this what just
- 1:29:28happened to Ace sort of level Loofy up and break open some other untapped potential
- 1:29:34that's been lying dormant. Because pain makes you grow, I wouldn't hate that,
- 1:29:43but it would also feel like a little bit too soon to have that
- 1:29:46happen. And I feel like maybe white Beard is going to have to step
- 1:29:53in and stop him, because white Beard is going to be just as hurt
- 1:29:58that Ace is gone. But I think that he would not be willing to
- 1:30:04like let Loufy throw his life away, because what would be the point,
- 1:30:10probably keeping in mind that like Ace wouldn't want that as well, that if
- 1:30:14Ace were here, he would want white Beard to protect his brother. He
- 1:30:18gave his life to save Loofy. Don't go fucking doing something like that now,
- 1:30:24you know. So I feel like it has to be just getting the
- 1:30:29fuck out of there. But that's the smart thing to do, and I
- 1:30:33don't know if that's what we're doing here, you know. Or you could
- 1:30:40go the other way, because like my instinct is Lufy just acts out hugely
- 1:30:44and launches into some sort of like almost like a suicide attack. But you
- 1:30:49could also go the other way, where Lufy just loses all motivation to do
- 1:30:53anything, like this is such an alien thing that happened, a loss that
- 1:30:58he can't even comprehend that he just freezes up and doesn't know how to process
- 1:31:04it or keep moving. You know, Like, how mad would you be
- 1:31:12if next episode is just like a blackout and Lufy wakes up and we have
- 1:31:16like missed the rest of this battle. That would be pretty fucked up.
- 1:31:24Considering how much time we have spent in this battle to then miss the end
- 1:31:30of it, to skip it, I would be like, well, we
- 1:31:32could have skipped a lot of other parts too, if we were gonna do
- 1:31:35it that way, you know what I mean, Like, I feel like
- 1:31:39it wouldn't be so much as I feel like a cheat in the sense of
- 1:31:43like I wanted to see it so much as like, well, there was
- 1:31:47lots of this that we saw that I didn't particularly want to see, and
- 1:31:50I would have liked to sort of deal with this sooner then, So that's
- 1:31:55how Yeah, I think I would just be frustrated, just be like,
- 1:31:58well, so so now we can just like jump over events, Okay,
- 1:32:02but that's right. I also feel like they are so entrenched that if he
- 1:32:08wakes up after that suggests that these guys have gotten out, and if we
- 1:32:13didn't get to see them get out, I don't know if I'm believing that
- 1:32:16they managed to do it. It would feel like maybe Oda just didn't know
- 1:32:20how to get his people out and decided, all right, I don't want
- 1:32:24to deal with it. We'll just say they got out, you know what
- 1:32:25I mean? So yeah, so that's that. No, Okay, good,
- 1:32:32I'm not saying anything but interesting because you were like, yeah, maybe
- 1:32:38he's incompacitated and were like, well then he blecks out. Okay, when
- 1:32:42he blecks out, what those men, you know, like, do we
- 1:32:44don't see this to see what's happening. What I'm thinking about with him being
- 1:32:48incapacitated is more like there's a full retreat by the pirates and white Beard basically
- 1:32:55has to like pick loofy up, like Lufy has just completely checked out.
- 1:33:00You know, he's still like awake and conscious, but he is is like
- 1:33:08sort of I don't want to say like vegetative. That's not quite it,
- 1:33:13but you know, like what do they call that in shock? Would I
- 1:33:17guess? In shock? Yeah, there's another word for it that I can't
- 1:33:23remember now, but yeah, basically in shock so catatonic. Thank you,
- 1:33:31Jessica, Yeah, tonic, Jessica said of your joke, that was mean.
- 1:33:39It's not my joke. I'm just no, yeah, that was all
- 1:33:44being mean. What does apparently quite mean? Can I say one more finger?
- 1:33:47Over all? What time? Like? No? No, go ahead.
- 1:33:51That's something I wanted to mention as well. You said that when Ace
- 1:33:55died, he had like a little smile on his face. M h.
- 1:33:59Something pointing out to you because that's something that you you don't catch the first
- 1:34:04time watching. Ever, is that actually everybody who has a D in their
- 1:34:12name and dies on the show dies with a smile on her face. M
- 1:34:16hm, Like there is podcast DA's what's Goldwatcher himself he does smiling, and
- 1:34:26I think the Giant also nohwar like with Robin's back story, he also was
- 1:34:32taul like these hours and he gets like freezed and he gets frozen up,
- 1:34:39and while he gets frozen up, he laughs. And I feel like there
- 1:34:44is another one that I'm forgetting that we already have seen. But basically,
- 1:34:47like that is a little thing that always appears, like when a character with
- 1:34:54a D dies, then they're smiling, which is yeah, it's weird.
- 1:35:00They have like it's just like the devil fruits, honestly, like that,
- 1:35:04then this thing, like the lineage of the D or like this name of
- 1:35:10the D is still shrouded in mystery at this point, right. Yeah,
- 1:35:17But but there are a lot of like little tidbits that I honestly, I
- 1:35:25don't know if it's like meaningful in a big like you know, to the
- 1:35:31story, but it's just always a nice thing to notice those little things,
- 1:35:35you know. Well, thank you for that, man. Yeah, I
- 1:35:45can't believe we stopped there. So what is it three episodes? Next time?
- 1:35:47I think you said not to look ahead on the chart. Oh yeah,
- 1:35:51no, you you can look at it. I mean you could have
- 1:35:55also looked at it last time. It was just that when we don't have
- 1:36:00to talk a lot about it. But I put in Sengoku's dairy fruit power
- 1:36:04in there. Oh I see, okay, And it was not revealed before
- 1:36:10last episode, so I didn't want you to, like, excellentally look at
- 1:36:14it? Gotcha? All right? Cool? Well, thank you so much
- 1:36:19for joining me Forloren. It was very good to have somebody to go back
- 1:36:23and forth with on these sad episodes, and thank you Jessica for joining us
- 1:36:30as well, and I hope everybody listening is enjoying the coverage. Also appreciate
- 1:36:35you all out there and until next time to Loo motherfuckers. Bye guys,
- 1:37:13that was an unspoiled network podcast
