2:18
Speaker 5: I know.
2:19
Speaker 3: Thanks. I can't believe you invited me twice in one week.
2:23
Speaker 3: Twice in one week. Thank's going on? And the more
2:25
Speaker 3: responsible member of this trio this morning is Tom Payton.
2:29
Speaker 3: You just heard him on, asked the lawyer. You doing Tom,
2:31
Speaker 3: I'm doing great. I feel like I'm kind of Steve's handler.
2:34
Speaker 3: He doesn't come here unless I'm here. Well, he he
2:37
Speaker 3: needs a handler. I needs representation too. We talked earlier
2:43
Speaker 3: in the week about this golf outing happening tomorrow at
2:45
Speaker 3: Sleepy Hollow as a as a fundraiser for the trun
2:49
Speaker 3: Candy YMC over the YMCA. What's what new? Can you
2:52
Speaker 3: tell us? Since uh, we talked to.
2:54
Speaker 6: You about so you've got some more teams. But yeah,
2:58
Speaker 6: we're all said, you know, the threat nails the other forecasts.
3:00
Speaker 6: But I was just looked at the hourly. It actually
3:02
Speaker 6: doesn't look too bad for tomorrow, and if we have
3:06
Speaker 6: a little thunderstorm then we'll just pause and keep on rolling.
3:08
Speaker 6: So I wouldn't hesitate because of the weather.
3:11
Speaker 7: But we've got a.
3:12
Speaker 6: Few slots left for teams, I think in the morning
3:14
Speaker 6: and the afternoon.
3:16
Speaker 7: But yeah, we're still all set.
3:17
Speaker 6: So tomorrow morning's flights eight fifteen, then we have an
3:21
Speaker 6: afternoon flight. If you want to play Sleepy Hollow, then
3:24
Speaker 6: you can call the y three or four seven, five
3:27
Speaker 6: seven zero zero one six and they'll make arrangements to
3:30
Speaker 6: get your team in. And then we have what should
3:33
Speaker 6: be a really fun party on the patio tomorrow evening.
3:36
Speaker 6: If you play in the golf event, you're in the party,
3:38
Speaker 6: so okay, but you can I want to clarify that
3:41
Speaker 6: you don't have to buy a separate ticket for the
3:43
Speaker 6: party on the patio, but you can at the opposite
3:46
Speaker 6: You can come to just the party if you want, because.
3:49
Speaker 3: Some people may not be able to get off work.
3:50
Speaker 7: That's right.
3:51
Speaker 6: And about five o'clock is a social hour and then
3:53
Speaker 6: it kicks in with food at six o'clock. We got
3:55
Speaker 6: a silent auction full band, the Lost cause Bann heard them.
4:00
Speaker 6: They're really good. They play kind of kind of like
4:02
Speaker 6: the Mountain plays really the same type of music and
4:06
Speaker 6: that's right, rock seventies, eighties, nineties songs. And they're a
4:11
Speaker 6: fun group and they'll be out on the patio. If
4:14
Speaker 6: you've been to Sleepy Hollows patio, it overlooks the golf course. Mean,
4:17
Speaker 6: it's just hard to find a better venue for a
4:20
Speaker 6: concert or some music. And then we uh included with
4:24
Speaker 6: the party. You get food provided by Sleepy Hollow, which
4:27
Speaker 6: is really good, and you get I think the beverage
4:31
Speaker 6: is included or of course we have non alcoholic beverages
4:34
Speaker 6: pop and tea, but we have wine and beer cocktails,
4:41
Speaker 6: but that's a cash bar if Sleepy Hollow has a
4:43
Speaker 6: really nice bar there inside where if you want a
4:48
Speaker 6: cocktail you can get one silent auction. So we got
4:51
Speaker 6: some items there, But what.
4:52
Speaker 3: Kind of items you got on sibon? Are you a
4:54
Speaker 3: liberty to discuss?
4:56
Speaker 6: You know, I haven't paid a whole lot of attention
4:58
Speaker 6: to a lot of local local fair I know. Uh,
5:01
Speaker 6: I put up my I got a little villa at
5:02
Speaker 6: the beach that we put up for selling aux and
5:05
Speaker 6: it's a nice couples get away. It's a one bedroom er,
5:08
Speaker 6: but it's on Kiowa Island.
5:10
Speaker 3: I'm not taking you, Steve, stop looking at me.
5:12
Speaker 6: Come on so you can get You can get a
5:13
Speaker 6: bargain there if you get in uh and want to
5:17
Speaker 6: go down to. It's outside Charleston, South Carolina, so that's
5:19
Speaker 6: a good item. But you know, I haven't paid a
5:20
Speaker 6: lot of attention to what we've got, but a lot
5:22
Speaker 6: of local gift certificates things like that, so you get some.
5:27
Speaker 3: I think I got a really nice water rose last year.
5:32
Speaker 6: We get what we can, and you know it's I
5:34
Speaker 6: still use It's great. I got it for less than retail, so.
5:37
Speaker 3: I'll bring my car by if you'd like to wash
5:39
Speaker 3: it later. And the The Animal the Mountain. The Mountain
5:44
Speaker 3: will be broadcasting live from there. Steve Animal will be
5:47
Speaker 3: there to I hate I'm gonna have to miss that
5:49
Speaker 3: part of it this year because of this radio thing
5:51
Speaker 3: they make me do now between noon and three, so
5:53
Speaker 3: I will.
5:53
Speaker 2: Not be there.
5:53
Speaker 3: I was there with you last year and had a great,
5:57
Speaker 3: great time, but I'll try to make the party towards.
6:00
Speaker 3: But you're going to be there with plenty of Mountain
6:03
Speaker 3: swags starting at eleven o'clock.
6:05
Speaker 8: Come on out, I'll have that you'll you can watch
6:08
Speaker 8: me eat and the price of admission and the neat
6:12
Speaker 8: thing about this whole thing if you've never been to
6:13
Speaker 8: Sleepy Hollow. The security has been lifted for the day
6:17
Speaker 8: so it is open to the public. I rate you
6:19
Speaker 8: to come on out and take a look around. I'll
6:21
Speaker 8: be in the Greenleaf seating area and I'll love to
6:26
Speaker 8: see you out there.
6:27
Speaker 3: And Tom, let's talk about the the the Dumont to
6:31
Speaker 3: Try County YMCA, because it's a great cause. I mean, yeah,
6:35
Speaker 3: we're going to be out there playing golf and people,
6:37
Speaker 3: you know, drinking beer and having fun and the party afterwards.
6:40
Speaker 6: But it's about the cost. Talk about that, that's right.
6:42
Speaker 6: And this is we only really have. You know, I've
6:44
Speaker 6: been on the board there for gosh longer than I
6:47
Speaker 6: can remember, in the president last three or four years,
6:49
Speaker 6: and we tried to do fundraisers here and there, but
6:51
Speaker 6: it's just the effort you need to raise a little
6:54
Speaker 6: bit of money made it difficult. So we've kind of
6:56
Speaker 6: honed in and only have really one fundraiser a year.
6:58
Speaker 6: That's it, and it's this one. And what it does
7:01
Speaker 6: is the money helps us because we have a multitude
7:05
Speaker 6: programs of the why we have a summer camp. It's
7:07
Speaker 6: really nice basketball like football, soccer, swimming, all kinds of
7:14
Speaker 6: offerings for the kids in the community. And and we
7:17
Speaker 6: want to set it up so that no child's left behind.
7:20
Speaker 6: So if if a kid has some issues at home
7:24
Speaker 6: or otherwise couldn't afford the entry feet of these programs
7:28
Speaker 6: or can't afford to be a member, uh, we don't
7:30
Speaker 6: turn them away at the whip. And that's where this
7:32
Speaker 6: money goes. We call it the scholarship program, and it
7:36
Speaker 6: allows us to continue to do that, and that's our
7:39
Speaker 6: plan in the future. So if you have a child
7:41
Speaker 6: from a royal area that can't get to downtown Charleston
7:45
Speaker 6: or Huntington, we kind of pride ourselves on providing as
7:50
Speaker 6: close as we can, sometimes even better amenities there for
7:54
Speaker 6: the folks in Putnam County. And if there are children
7:57
Speaker 6: that his parents can't afford it, they're still to be
8:00
Speaker 6: able to participate.
8:01
Speaker 7: And that's that's.
8:02
Speaker 6: What this is really about, is kind of refilling the
8:06
Speaker 6: coffers so we can continue to do that and provide
8:08
Speaker 6: that opportunity for the kids in the Putnam County area.
8:11
Speaker 3: And you still have slots available, do you so have
8:13
Speaker 3: whole sponsorships available, because I know you have to have
8:15
Speaker 3: signs made and things of that nature.
8:17
Speaker 6: I don't know we can probably work up a sign.
8:19
Speaker 6: You'd have to call the Wye and see if they
8:20
Speaker 6: can do it. I think we've probably made them by now.
8:23
Speaker 6: But if you want to play there, there is a
8:27
Speaker 6: maximum amount of teams. We're getting close. But if you
8:29
Speaker 6: want to play tomorrow, give the why call. I think
8:32
Speaker 6: we still have room for three or four teams to
8:34
Speaker 6: get in and a choice of whether it's the morning
8:37
Speaker 6: or afternoon flight. So if you got something in the
8:39
Speaker 6: afternoon you have to do, you can play in the
8:41
Speaker 6: morning flight, be done by one o'clock. If you got
8:43
Speaker 6: to get some work done in the morning, you can
8:46
Speaker 6: play in the afternoon flight. Start about one fifteen and
8:48
Speaker 6: get down there and play.
8:50
Speaker 3: Or just blow the whole day off over there at six.
8:56
Speaker 7: A day.
8:56
Speaker 8: It is Friday, so absolutely Marty is standing by. Operators
9:01
Speaker 8: are standing by three oh four seven, five seven zero
9:03
Speaker 8: zero one six call now.
9:05
Speaker 3: And I do want to mention this about mister animal
9:09
Speaker 3: you are. This has nothing to do with what we're
9:10
Speaker 3: talking about here, but I want to give you a
9:12
Speaker 3: plug because tonight you're going to be live at bar
9:14
Speaker 3: one oh one on Capitol Street, downtown Charleston from six
9:17
Speaker 3: to eight.
9:17
Speaker 8: I am back in my old stomping ground. Love to
9:20
Speaker 8: see you out there. Come on, buy cheeseburger, fries and
9:22
Speaker 8: an ice cold draft only fifteen bucks. Best deal in town.
9:25
Speaker 8: You can get it every day.
9:27
Speaker 3: And they are good burgers. They are great burgers. And
9:29
Speaker 3: then you're out at Sleepy Hollow tomorrow and then on
9:32
Speaker 3: Saturday you're a Trojan Landy Marine.
9:34
Speaker 8: The power Sports also starting at eleven spot. So if
9:37
Speaker 8: you'd like to buy a boat and you would like
9:39
Speaker 8: me to be on your boat all summer, all you
9:41
Speaker 8: have to do is feed and water meat and I
9:42
Speaker 8: will be with you every.
9:44
Speaker 3: Step of the way except for the signing on the line.
9:46
Speaker 3: Yeah and uh so, yeah, that's a that's a bargain.
9:49
Speaker 3: It's a bargain at any price, right there. All right,
9:51
Speaker 3: So Steve, we'll come out, come out and hang out
9:54
Speaker 3: with you at Barrow one on one Tonight've been into
9:56
Speaker 3: tomorrow Sleepy Hollow, tom I appreciate you being here. Give
9:58
Speaker 3: us the details again, the phone numbers that where people
10:01
Speaker 3: can can sign up because we're still got room.
10:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, the why numbers three or four, seven, five, seven, zero,
10:06
Speaker 6: zero one six. If you need help and can't get through,
10:09
Speaker 6: there is contacting me at the office at Peyton Law
10:11
Speaker 6: Firm A three or four seven, five five, five five
10:15
Speaker 6: five six.
10:15
Speaker 7: If you want to.
10:15
Speaker 6: Help, we'll find a way, whether there's a we can
10:18
Speaker 6: get whole sponsor signs made or not.
10:21
Speaker 7: Uh. And if you want to play.
10:23
Speaker 6: Sleepy Hollow, which is otherwise a private club, give us
10:27
Speaker 6: a call and get a teammate and just need four
10:28
Speaker 6: people of any skill level. We're also I'm sponsoring a
10:32
Speaker 6: whole in one contest too, so if you get in
10:34
Speaker 6: to the event or transforming what is normally a par
10:39
Speaker 6: four number nine, one of the best holes in the
10:41
Speaker 6: state of West Virginia, has voted a point in the
10:43
Speaker 6: Metro News pole years ago to a short par three
10:46
Speaker 6: where you can win twenty thousand dollars if you make.
10:48
Speaker 6: It's about one hundred and sixty yards. So you know,
10:51
Speaker 6: my skills aren't that good. But for somebody player, you know,
10:54
Speaker 6: one hundred and sixty yards is not that far. I mean,
10:57
Speaker 6: your odds are against you, but you know that's the
11:01
Speaker 6: green We're focusitting on the patio, be looking over waiting
11:04
Speaker 6: for you to make that hole in one, and when
11:06
Speaker 6: you're twenty grand, we certainly want somebody to win it.
11:07
Speaker 3: I'll have my beer in the air, cheering on, come
11:10
Speaker 3: on do it.
11:11
Speaker 6: You can be our legal observer to verify that the
11:15
Speaker 6: horn one was made. I am, I'm not sure you're
11:17
Speaker 6: credible enough.
11:18
Speaker 3: I'll try and again, all all the proceeds from everything,
11:21
Speaker 3: whether it's the golf outing tomorrow or the event tomorrow night,
11:25
Speaker 3: the party that you're going to have, and again, if
11:27
Speaker 3: you can't make the golf tournament, maybe you're not a golfer,
11:29
Speaker 3: maybe you can't get off work or whatever, remember you
11:32
Speaker 3: can just come to the party. Just come to the party.
11:35
Speaker 6: I think you can pay on site. It's fifty dollars
11:37
Speaker 6: for a single, ninety for a couple. So if you're
11:40
Speaker 6: thinking about something to do and the weather's nice and
11:42
Speaker 6: you've got a date night, great place to go. Great
11:45
Speaker 6: place to go is going to be warm one way
11:46
Speaker 6: or another, and good music, good company, beer wines included
11:50
Speaker 6: in great food. And you know that starts about five
11:54
Speaker 6: o'clock social hour, But if you get there six seven,
11:58
Speaker 6: seven thirty, it'll still be rocking and rolling until least
12:02
Speaker 6: till nine plus.
12:03
Speaker 3: Bro Okay, all right, Tom, appreciate you doing this. Thanks
12:07
Speaker 3: for having it's it's a great organization and I know
12:10

15:07
Speaker 3: let's bring it a good buddy, Tom Sussman, how are
15:09
Speaker 3: you doing, my friend doing well?
15:11
Speaker 7: Doing well? Just uh yeah, we're watching a little bit
15:14
Speaker 7: of softball, little baseball, high school sports, kind of winding down.
15:19
Speaker 3: It's yeah, it's it's an interesting time in the world
15:22
Speaker 3: of high school sports because, you know, the kids, and
15:25
Speaker 3: for that matter, the parents and the teachers have got
15:26
Speaker 3: all of their attention on graduation, you know, right now,
15:30
Speaker 3: that's what they're thinking about. But there's also you know,
15:32
Speaker 3: the baseball softball regionals getting ready for tournaments and so
15:35
Speaker 3: on and so.
15:36
Speaker 7: Forth, and then you have to deal with mother Nature.
15:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's not been very kind to us here
15:40
Speaker 3: as of late.
15:41
Speaker 7: Now I'm going down to your stopping grounds tonight, going
15:43
Speaker 7: down to Man, West Virginia.
15:45
Speaker 3: Oh, what's going on in the Tridelfia District.
15:47
Speaker 7: Well, Wohamma Baseball is taking on Man Baseball. That's part
15:51
Speaker 7: of the attorney and our station wj H carries Wohama
15:55
Speaker 7: and we're going to broadcast the game.
15:57
Speaker 3: All right, Well, say hello to my good buddy Mike Crosby,
16:00
Speaker 3: who is the baseball coach and has been for something.
16:04
Speaker 3: He's he's a Cleveland Browns fan, though he's a real bit,
16:07
Speaker 3: real huge, big time Brown fan.
16:09
Speaker 7: Carrie is quite the burden.
16:10
Speaker 3: Then, yes he does, Yes he does. But I would
16:13
Speaker 3: give a big shout out to Mike and uh, you know,
16:15
Speaker 3: he's and I've been friends for a number of years
16:17
Speaker 3: and he is a great guy who's done great things
16:19
Speaker 3: with that with that baseball program down there. We do
16:23
Speaker 3: pretty well with baseball down in my section of the
16:25
Speaker 3: where I'm from originally, I mean Chapmanville, Logan, h Man.
16:30
Speaker 3: We're always we're always right there in baseball.
16:31
Speaker 5: I love that.
16:33
Speaker 7: I love that stadium down and down and down in
16:35
Speaker 7: Logan with the seats out of the boy the Braves.
16:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, that was those actually came from the old Fulton
16:40
Speaker 3: County Stadium, Uh, the home of the Braves of those. Yeah,
16:45
Speaker 3: that's Roger Gertz Field on Littleburg Island.
16:47
Speaker 7: Yeah. My son Michael played for g W and we'd
16:50
Speaker 7: go down there a couple of times a year and
16:52
Speaker 7: I enjoyed it. It was a great place, all right.
16:54
Speaker 3: So the reason I brought you here today, I caught
16:56
Speaker 3: your appearance on Inside West Virginia Politics show locally on
17:01
Speaker 3: here in the Charleston Huntington Market and wwk E thirteen
17:04
Speaker 3: over the weekend with Rick Johnson, and you're talking about
17:06
Speaker 3: some issues with the Kanawah County Ambulance Service.
17:09
Speaker 7: One are the issues, Well, so what has happened over
17:12
Speaker 7: a period of time. The delivery of ambulance services has changed,
17:16
Speaker 7: the business model has changed, and so Kanawha County has
17:20
Speaker 7: felt those changes and they need to deal with a deficit.
17:26
Speaker 7: They have plenty of cash on hand to soft land that,
17:29
Speaker 7: but they've got a deficit that they're working for. And
17:32
Speaker 7: then they also have some workforce issues that they're working
17:34
Speaker 7: through because it's tough to recruit and retain paramedics in
17:39
Speaker 7: the state of West Virginia. And then the delivery system
17:43
Speaker 7: and has changed. So we used to have a model
17:46
Speaker 7: where the emergency ambulance providers for the most part, did
17:49
Speaker 7: the non emergency transport transports as well as the emergency transports. Well,
17:55
Speaker 7: now you have third party companies that are providing that,
17:58
Speaker 7: and so that revenue stream has moved away way. Also,
18:01
Speaker 7: you have some healthcare hospitals that are now doing their
18:04
Speaker 7: own inter facility transports that ambulance services used to do.
18:09
Speaker 7: That that's had a negative impact on revenue and so
18:13
Speaker 7: it's just been a number of things that have come
18:15
Speaker 7: to fruition. And so what Kanawa County Ambulance is looking
18:18
Speaker 7: to do in the board and got a great board
18:21
Speaker 7: and got some great folks, and then working with the
18:24
Speaker 7: County Commission is how do we redesign Kanawa County Ambulance
18:29
Speaker 7: to meet the needs not only financially but more importantly
18:33
Speaker 7: quality wise in the coming years. And so they're embarking
18:36
Speaker 7: on a process to do that.
18:38
Speaker 3: It's amazing how much emergency services have changed over the years.
18:42
Speaker 3: I mean, I'm old enough to remember, especially you know
18:44
Speaker 3: where I'm from, where there wasn't an ambulance service authority.
18:48
Speaker 3: It was the local funeral homes that actually handle those
18:51
Speaker 3: sort of thing. That's that's going back a little ways.
18:53
Speaker 3: But but then we saw a shift in that.
18:56
Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it used to be just like scoop
18:58
Speaker 7: and take and if you made it, if you if
19:01
Speaker 7: you made it to town and you were still breathing,
19:02
Speaker 7: you'd get to the hospital, if not to get to
19:04
Speaker 7: the funeral home. Now just joking, but it was. It's
19:07
Speaker 7: a much different and with technology things have changed. So
19:10
Speaker 7: it used to be in the eighties and nineties when
19:13
Speaker 7: you're good buddy Roger Bryant down at Logan e MS
19:15
Speaker 7: and he's going to come and look for you. Now,
19:17
Speaker 7: I'm sure you know they did. They had radios that
19:21
Speaker 7: might work depending on where you were in the community.
19:23
Speaker 7: So it was more for the paramedics today for a
19:26
Speaker 7: large number of the cause. Now there's still some problems
19:29
Speaker 7: in some areas. They can connect the ambulances back to
19:31
Speaker 7: the hospital. They have the technology that's it's a different situation.
19:35
Speaker 7: You can GPS to the ambulances. So one of the
19:39
Speaker 7: things they're looking at is the thing called tiered response.
19:42
Speaker 7: How do you allocate the proper vehicle for the proper call.
19:47
Speaker 7: And I'll give you an example. So say I sprained
19:49
Speaker 7: my ankle and I have no other way to get
19:51
Speaker 7: to the hospital by ambulance. It's a problem for the
19:55
Speaker 7: most part, it's not life threatening, so that would be
19:59
Speaker 7: a basic life support ambulance. You get on me and
20:04
Speaker 7: I have a cardiac arrest. Here in the studio.
20:06
Speaker 3: Don't do it here, please, it's a new studio. Do
20:08
Speaker 3: it out in the hall.
20:08
Speaker 7: Okay, I'll do it out in the hall. I'll do
20:10
Speaker 7: it in Chris. Chris Lawrence is offre. Yeah, there you
20:13
Speaker 7: in that situation, I need advanced life support. So how
20:17
Speaker 7: do you dispatch the right ambulance because there's limited resources
20:21
Speaker 7: in any ambulance company And so that's what they're working
20:24
Speaker 7: with Metro so that they come up with a new
20:27
Speaker 7: model for dispatch. And again technology has allowed this to happen.
20:32
Speaker 7: Whereas thirty forty years ago it was the appropriate thing,
20:35
Speaker 7: was the most was the closest ambulance. Today we can
20:38
Speaker 7: do better.
20:39
Speaker 3: Talk with Tom Sussman again an Ave Island show on
20:41
Speaker 3: five Any Life brought to you in part by snap Fitness,
20:43
Speaker 3: with a wide selection of equipment including free weights, cardio machine,
20:46
Speaker 3: weights and more. They have five convenient locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield,
20:50
Speaker 3: Barbersville and Milton business snapfitness dot Com from ward to sales.
20:53
Speaker 3: Talk about the difficulty Tom in getting emergency services workers
20:58
Speaker 3: and it's no different in cana A County than it
21:00
Speaker 3: is in Pendleton County or anywhere for that matter. Talk
21:03
Speaker 3: about that difficulty and what the ambulance service is doing
21:05
Speaker 3: trying to get people to work.
21:07
Speaker 10: Well.
21:07
Speaker 7: One of the things that Kanalwa County is doing is
21:09
Speaker 7: they have a training program and they're trying to create
21:11
Speaker 7: their own paramedics in their own EMTs, But it really
21:14
Speaker 7: comes down to what we pay paramedics across the board
21:18
Speaker 7: in West Virginia and based on some statistics from the
21:22
Speaker 7: West Virginia MS Coalition, it's kind of like the Hospital
21:24
Speaker 7: Association for MS providers. You know, in Maryland they're paying
21:28
Speaker 7: a minimum menially wage of twenty nine dollars and ninety
21:32
Speaker 7: six cents an hour. In West Virginia it's twenty one
21:34
Speaker 7: to fifty five. Ohio is twenty two to fifty. We're
21:38
Speaker 7: twenty one fifty five. Pennsylvania's twenty five forty one. West
21:43
Speaker 7: Virginia's twenty one fifty five. Hospitals want paramedics now, so
21:47
Speaker 7: we're seeing other medical providers that we're competing for that
21:51
Speaker 7: skill set.
21:53
Speaker 3: Why do hospitals want paramedic because they have nursing shortages,
21:56
Speaker 3: they have other shortages. It's a workforce, it's a circular
21:59
Speaker 3: things as you need.
22:02
Speaker 7: So you know, they're just in West Virginia we have
22:06
Speaker 7: an older population. We don't have as many young people
22:09
Speaker 7: going through the system. And then once you get that
22:11
Speaker 7: that that credential, if you will, then you can take
22:14
Speaker 7: that credential anywhere in the country.
22:16
Speaker 3: Well, and I think that's and again, we can't solve
22:19
Speaker 3: this in the ten minutes we have here, but I
22:21
Speaker 3: think it speaks to a much larger issue here in
22:25
Speaker 3: West Virginia town. Because that floored me when you said
22:27
Speaker 3: hospitals want paramedics. I'm thinking why it never occurred to me, Well,
22:30
Speaker 3: it's because they can't get nurses. I mean, what the heck? Man?
22:33
Speaker 7: Well, but what you got to understand in West Virginia,
22:35
Speaker 7: our big issue is that about seventy one percent of
22:38
Speaker 7: our paya mix is coming from Medicare, Medicaid Peia governmental
22:43
Speaker 7: payers and about thirty percent or lessons coming from private pay.
22:47
Speaker 7: That would be the West Virginia radios, the new cores,
22:50
Speaker 7: the gms, the private businesses. That's a real problem in
22:54
Speaker 7: other states that Medicare Medicaid pie is about forty percent,
22:59
Speaker 7: and it is about sixty percent. And I according to
23:03
Speaker 7: folks with the Hospital Association, let me.
23:06
Speaker 3: Get to this day balance showing five eighty lives brought
23:08
Speaker 3: you a part by Huston's Pizza this month, Get a
23:10
Speaker 3: large eighteen inch pepperoni pizza and order cinnamon bites only
23:13
Speaker 3: twenty ninety nine. He didn't pick up or getting delivered
23:16
Speaker 3: by going to Huston's Pizza Dot combat A. Textures said,
23:18
Speaker 3: I would like to see ambulance services go back to
23:20
Speaker 3: local fire stations. That's probably not going to happen, but
23:23
Speaker 3: what's what's your thoughts on that.
23:26
Speaker 7: I mean, again, the federal requirements, the state requirements. I
23:30
Speaker 7: don't think fire departments can afford to operate a system
23:35
Speaker 7: and maintain that. It's tough. You know, Charleston does have
23:39
Speaker 7: it's only e MS through the fire service, but they
23:41
Speaker 7: have a lot of resources. It was great today when
23:45
Speaker 7: you could do that, but I think we've come further
23:48
Speaker 7: in the expectation of what's got to be on those
23:50
Speaker 7: ambulances and the staffing those ambulances. It's really tough for
23:54
Speaker 7: the volunteer fire departments, and a lot of the volunteer
23:56
Speaker 7: fire departments are having a hard time recruiting and retaining
23:59
Speaker 7: their staff. And so it's it, you know.
24:03
Speaker 3: I just want to tell me, I guess the bigger question,
24:05
Speaker 3: and I said, we got a call to get to
24:06
Speaker 3: I'll get to this momentarily. I think that my bigger
24:10
Speaker 3: issue is is what are people doing? It's like everybody
24:14
Speaker 3: that I have on whether it's on this show, or
24:16
Speaker 3: the Metro News midday, and we talk about whether it's police,
24:19
Speaker 3: whether it's emergency services, whether it's any occupation, whether it's
24:24
Speaker 3: a public service or not. What are people doing?
24:28
Speaker 7: And that's part of the.
24:29
Speaker 3: Reason, because nobody can find anybody.
24:31
Speaker 7: Well, and that's part of the whole work through tiered response.
24:35
Speaker 7: So how do you do it better? How do you
24:38
Speaker 7: make it more efficient and maintain quality? So yeah, I mean,
24:42
Speaker 7: but the workforce issue is not just a EMS and
24:45
Speaker 7: we also we have an aging population.
24:47
Speaker 3: I get that, and we also have a lot of
24:49
Speaker 3: people who choose to do nothing.
24:50
Speaker 7: Let's just don't get political.
24:52
Speaker 3: We're not going to get political. Let's go because you
24:55
Speaker 3: and I can get political.
24:56
Speaker 7: You know that. Well when I'm here on a political
24:57
Speaker 7: head question, we can to have that.
24:59
Speaker 3: I got you. Let's go to the phone. Somebody knows
25:01
Speaker 3: a little something about emergency services. Our good friend Jim
25:03
Speaker 3: Brown is with is Jimmy? You're on with Tom Setsman.
25:06
Speaker 10: Go ahead, mister Sessman. How are you doing today?
25:09
Speaker 3: Doing good?
25:10
Speaker 2: Sir?
25:10
Speaker 7: How are you doing?
25:11
Speaker 10: I'm doing okay. I'm a number one saying of Kodal
25:15
Speaker 10: kind of animal service. I considered it like my second family.
25:21
Speaker 10: One I wanted to ask you. I was at one
25:24
Speaker 10: of the last board meetings that and led the way
25:29
Speaker 10: to get the paramedics and the EMTs a raised that
25:34
Speaker 10: they surely deserved. Is there a way that it can
25:39
Speaker 10: be set up that they would get some kind of
25:43
Speaker 10: a pay raise, even though it might be small, like
25:47
Speaker 10: two percent every year? So you know that it wouldn't
25:52
Speaker 10: make people happier because they're trying to work two or
25:57
Speaker 10: three jobs to maintain their family way.
26:01
Speaker 7: You know, Jim, I think that we'd all like to
26:03
Speaker 7: have that happen. I really can't speak for the finances.
26:08
Speaker 7: My position really is as a spokesperson for that. But
26:12
Speaker 7: what I will promise you that I'll do. I'll take
26:14
Speaker 7: your concern and comment back to Monica Mason, who is
26:18
Speaker 7: the director. I know that part of the sustainability that
26:21
Speaker 7: we have to do at the Squad is begin to
26:24
Speaker 7: work through the issues that we're talking about before. But
26:28
Speaker 7: that that is a point that I will take back
26:30
Speaker 7: to the folks here at the Squad.
26:32
Speaker 10: Who knows me.
26:33
Speaker 13: Well, Okay, I will, I will.
26:36
Speaker 7: I will pass that on Jaim.
26:37
Speaker 3: All right, Jim, we appreciate your phone call. Thanks a lot.
26:39
Speaker 3: Twenty six minutes away from ten o'clock at eight Island
26:42
Speaker 3: Show on five A d Life brought to you in
26:43
Speaker 3: part by Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead paint inspection risk assessment
26:47
Speaker 3: services designed to identify and to assess the presence of
26:49
Speaker 3: lead based paint and buildings and other structures using a
26:52
Speaker 3: three phase approach of inspection, sampling, the lab analysis, and
26:55
Speaker 3: an assessment report. Visit Pinnacle court dot net. Because what
26:58
Speaker 3: you don't know can't hurt you. Tom Susman is here.
27:01
Speaker 3: What other news do you bring us from the Ambulance
27:04
Speaker 3: Service today, sir.
27:05
Speaker 7: Well, they're they're they're working on trying to increase their
27:10
Speaker 7: billings from insurance companies. They're working through and did increase
27:14
Speaker 7: to to the insurance companies. They're trying to be more
27:18
Speaker 7: efficient that way. They're looking at their billing processes and
27:21
Speaker 7: they're they're working through. There's an implementation committee that's been
27:25
Speaker 7: set up by the board and that implementation committee is
27:29
Speaker 7: basically looking at the at the operation and how best
27:32
Speaker 7: to prepare it is it moves forward to be able
27:36
Speaker 7: to meet the needs and be sustainable. If you can't
27:38
Speaker 7: be sustainable, you can't meet your mission. And so a
27:42
Speaker 7: lot of what we're doing is to be sustainable. Also,
27:45
Speaker 7: have hats off to the folks at Metro. They're working
27:48
Speaker 7: really closely with the folks at EMS on this tiered
27:50
Speaker 7: response uh, and working closely with other folks in the community.
27:54
Speaker 3: Uh. And again, I think sometimes people forget what a
27:59
Speaker 3: big old county, Kanawa County is, I mean some square
28:03
Speaker 3: largest county in the state. And if you if you
28:06
Speaker 3: are down a person or two and you're in one
28:09
Speaker 3: end of the county, and I know, I don't I
28:11
Speaker 3: know that they try to keep them, you know, in
28:12
Speaker 3: a centralized locations, but you know, response time it's about
28:17
Speaker 3: as good as it can be. I guess right, Well,
28:19
Speaker 3: we have a.
28:19
Speaker 7: Really good response time. What happens sometimes is the emergency
28:22
Speaker 7: rooms back up. Yeah, and so therefore we have units
28:25
Speaker 7: in the emergency room there they're waiting to process those folks,
28:29
Speaker 7: and then that can become a problem. But no, we
28:32
Speaker 7: have a great there's a great staff of folks and
28:34
Speaker 7: they're very dedicated to providing care and they're not centrally located.
28:40
Speaker 7: They have them all throughout the county. Yeah, there's and uh, I.
28:43
Speaker 3: Guess what I meant by that is that I would
28:45
Speaker 3: imagine because I know other counties have done, is that
28:47
Speaker 3: they try to get people, you know, to not have
28:52
Speaker 3: somebody on one end of the county and then trying
28:54
Speaker 3: to get them to the other.
28:55
Speaker 7: That's part of the whole tiered response. How do you
28:58
Speaker 7: have the appropriate for the appropriate call?
29:02
Speaker 3: How much and I don't know if you're prepared to
29:04
Speaker 3: speak about this or not. We'll do this and I'll
29:06
Speaker 3: let you go. How much abuse is not really the
29:11
Speaker 3: right word. We all hear these stories. And one of
29:15
Speaker 3: my one of my good buddies is an EMT in
29:16
Speaker 3: another county, uh and he talks about people calling the
29:20
Speaker 3: ambulance services when they really don't need to. I don't
29:23
Speaker 3: know if you want to speak to that or not,
29:25
Speaker 3: but how much of that goes on where ambulances are
29:28
Speaker 3: being in emergency services in general? Tom are being called
29:32
Speaker 3: out to situations that aren't emergencies. It's somebody who needs
29:37
Speaker 3: a ride somewhere, and it happens. I know it happens,
29:40
Speaker 3: and I would suggest to you that it does happen.
29:43
Speaker 3: One of the things that Knwa County Ambulance has developed
29:45
Speaker 3: as a community PAAR and medicine program where they trying
29:48
Speaker 3: to work with people in their homes a lot of
29:51
Speaker 3: times though, you know, you have people who are by
29:53
Speaker 3: themselves that are seniors and they have an issue and
29:55
Speaker 3: they're concerned and and so, but they work for those
29:59
Speaker 3: issues with It's difficult. Sometimes it's difficult. I mean I've
30:03
Speaker 3: talked to like I said, you know, one of my
30:04
Speaker 3: good friends in e MT and he said, I pick
30:08
Speaker 3: up the same people sometimes multiple times a month because
30:11
Speaker 3: they have chest pains to get a ride to the hospital.
30:13
Speaker 3: They get checked out. They just want to ride to town.
30:16
Speaker 3: And this is not Kanawa County, by the way. Yeah,
30:18
Speaker 3: and you said, we have a mental health sitution. We
30:21
Speaker 3: have a mental health crisis in the state and they're
30:23

34:23
Speaker 3: to believe it. Just listen to Republican lawmakers that's been
34:26
Speaker 3: running people out of town. I think that depends on
34:28
Speaker 3: where you live. Because we had earlier in the week
34:32
Speaker 3: on the Metro News midday show Cheap Plug, we had
34:35
Speaker 3: the mayor of Martinsburg on, and they are exploding, absolutely
34:39
Speaker 3: exploding up there with people coming in and they're I mean,
34:42
Speaker 3: how many times in West Virginia do you hear about
34:44
Speaker 3: people building new schools. Usually it's about consolidation. They're building.
34:48
Speaker 3: They built at least one or two high schools up there.
34:50
Speaker 3: They're going to build more. And the one one of
34:53
Speaker 3: the ones that they built automatically was a quad A school,
34:58
Speaker 3: meaning the large school out there used to be TRIPLEA.
35:01
Speaker 3: Now it's squad A. So yeah, and where I live
35:03
Speaker 3: in Putnam County, oh yeah, they're moving in. They are
35:06
Speaker 3: one hundred percent moving in. Let's talk about a big
35:10
Speaker 3: event going on over in Elk City. It's going to
35:11
Speaker 3: be let Up Elk City District Block Party, happening this
35:15
Speaker 3: Saturday noon to six. Music of all kinds, food trucks,
35:18
Speaker 3: just a whole lot of fun. Jennifer Grayley is here
35:19
Speaker 3: to talk about it. Good morning, welcome to the show.
35:21
Speaker 13: Thank you, good morning.
35:22
Speaker 3: Now what is your role in all this, Jennifer, I was.
35:25
Speaker 13: An organizer of all this event, all.
35:26
Speaker 3: Right, And so you're probably a little tired right now
35:29
Speaker 3: at this point, right.
35:30
Speaker 13: Yes I am.
35:31
Speaker 3: It may have you scooty in just a little bit
35:33
Speaker 3: on that microphone there, So start from the top. Tell
35:36
Speaker 3: me what's going on.
35:37
Speaker 5: So we as business owners in Elk City have noticed
35:40
Speaker 5: that there wasn't much going on in our areas. So
35:43
Speaker 5: we wanted to come together as business owners to try
35:45
Speaker 5: to do events or host something to bring more people,
35:48
Speaker 5: more traffic in to hopefully come into our businesses.
35:51
Speaker 3: And the Elk City district has seen a definite upswing
35:55
Speaker 3: in businesses over the last couple of years.
35:57
Speaker 13: Yes, it has.
35:58
Speaker 5: We have had several new businesses come in the last
36:01
Speaker 5: probably two years.
36:02
Speaker 3: And what are some of the businesses over there for
36:04
Speaker 3: people that may not be familiar with them.
36:06
Speaker 5: So now we have the Sergio's and then we have
36:08
Speaker 5: Albuquerque Southwest Mexican Bar and Grow.
36:11
Speaker 3: And they're both about the same. There's Sergio Lamada and
36:14
Speaker 3: I tell you he owns a restaurant in Hurricane where
36:17
Speaker 3: I live. That's absolutely fantastic. And so if you get
36:19
Speaker 3: a chance cheap plug for Sergio, go, that's right, go
36:23
Speaker 3: and and enjoy his fair. But he owns both places there, right, Yes.
36:26
Speaker 13: He owns both of them.
36:27
Speaker 5: And now he has his liquor license for the Mexican place,
36:30
Speaker 5: and now we're all set to go with that all right.
36:32
Speaker 3: Now, A lot and a lot of other great businesses over
36:34
Speaker 3: there as well.
36:35
Speaker 5: Yes, we have a love selfie place that comes that
36:37
Speaker 5: you can come and take pictures. They have like a
36:39
Speaker 5: whole studio. There's a new sage place that's a hair
36:43
Speaker 5: beauty suplon that's over there that she just.
36:47
Speaker 13: Recently moved in. We just now got a wine down.
36:50
Speaker 3: Bar that's w I n E. Boss.
36:53
Speaker 5: Yes so, And like I said, our area is the
36:55
Speaker 5: only area that you have a distillery, a wine bar,
36:58
Speaker 5: a brewery and a meter on the same block where
37:02
Speaker 5: you can.
37:02
Speaker 3: Walk a meter ree. Yes, I like that something on
37:06
Speaker 3: here every day in West Virginia.
37:07
Speaker 5: That's right, Dave has the meter Rei's called wandering when meaty.
37:11
Speaker 3: Let's talk about the event on Saturday. You got food trucks,
37:15
Speaker 3: you got music, you got everything.
37:17
Speaker 13: I have a little bit of everything.
37:18
Speaker 5: So we have about twenty five vendors that are coming
37:21
Speaker 5: that are setting up. I have five different local bands,
37:25
Speaker 5: minor swings, Jim Snyder, we got our Fruit Strangers, we
37:31
Speaker 5: got Charles Murphy. They're all coming to perform for us.
37:34
Speaker 5: We have a whole kids area that will be free.
37:37
Speaker 5: We have three inflatables and a free face painting Lady
37:40
Speaker 5: by Lisa alto that's provided by the neighborhood shop.
37:45
Speaker 3: And again, the great thing about this is is, of
37:48
Speaker 3: course you're going to have food trucks. We'll get in
37:49
Speaker 3: those a little bit later on. And well you mentioned
37:51
Speaker 3: some of them already, a lot of great food there.
37:53
Speaker 3: But if the family wants to bring the kids out,
37:56
Speaker 3: or you just want to go out, you can go
37:57
Speaker 3: over there and have a good time and not spend
37:59
Speaker 3: a single time. We want you to. We want you
38:01
Speaker 3: to go into these businesses, and we want you to
38:03
Speaker 3: we're taking the food trucks, but if you don't have
38:05
Speaker 3: the funds whatever, you can just come out and have
38:07
Speaker 3: a good time absolutely free of charge.
38:09
Speaker 5: Yes, it's completely free to the public. So come out,
38:12
Speaker 5: enjoy the music and look around at the vendors, go
38:15
Speaker 5: to the local businesses, shops around. There's tons, there's food trucks,
38:19
Speaker 5: there's the kids free areas. So if you don't want
38:22
Speaker 5: to come and spend money and just bring your kids
38:25
Speaker 5: out and enjoy the free kids area that we're providing.
38:27
Speaker 3: And talk about other than just the business aspect of it.
38:31
Speaker 3: I know that's kind of what you're focusing on, but
38:33
Speaker 3: the growth of the Elk City District other than just
38:35
Speaker 3: the business. I mean, this is becoming the happening place
38:40
Speaker 3: in Charleston, and it's because of a lot of great
38:42
Speaker 3: volunteers and the business owners, but also a lot of
38:45
Speaker 3: people that just care about the community, that want to
38:48
Speaker 3: want to make this a destination in Charleston, and it's
38:51
Speaker 3: becoming that, Yes it is.
38:52
Speaker 5: That's part why we did this block party is we
38:55
Speaker 5: have a lot of local community people that are around
38:59
Speaker 5: that want to see things in our area, that want
39:01
Speaker 5: to have stuff. So we decided as business owners to
39:04
Speaker 5: come together to do this to help bring our community
39:07
Speaker 5: together and bring others into the community.
39:09
Speaker 3: We had a text here somebody wanted to know if
39:11
Speaker 3: it was pet friendly.
39:12
Speaker 13: Yes, it is pet friend.
39:13
Speaker 3: I'll figure it to being outdoors. Yeah, it shouldn't be
39:15
Speaker 3: a problem. So yeah, bring your pets and come on
39:17
Speaker 3: over there and enjoy it. If somebody is listening right
39:20
Speaker 3: now and they want to be involved as a vendor,
39:22
Speaker 3: do you still have space space available?
39:24
Speaker 5: Unfortunately I have filled up all my space for vendors.
39:27
Speaker 3: Well plan for next year that's.
39:29
Speaker 5: Well, hopefully we'll have one during the summer. We're planning
39:32
Speaker 5: on having more. If we can have a great one.
39:34
Speaker 13: This time.
39:34
Speaker 5: We're hoping to have more in the summer bring and
39:37
Speaker 5: we're looking at new different ideas to have to bring
39:40
Speaker 5: more people in for.
39:41
Speaker 3: This and that's and that's a really good idea. You
39:43
Speaker 3: could do it monthly, you could do it quarterly, whatever
39:45
Speaker 3: the case may be. I mean, there's a lot of
39:47
Speaker 3: events already going on over there. And again it's about
39:50
Speaker 3: these these business owners and the residents of that area
39:53
Speaker 3: coming together and saying, hey, we want to make this
39:56
Speaker 3: a destination. And it's becoming that. And it's already that
39:58
Speaker 3: with these with these different restaurants and things that you
40:01
Speaker 3: have there.
40:02
Speaker 5: Yes, we have monthly meetings with our business owners, so
40:05
Speaker 5: we all come together trying to come up with ideas
40:07
Speaker 5: or new things to happen in our area. We work together,
40:11
Speaker 5: that's the thing. Our small businesses come together and we work.
40:13
Speaker 3: Together and explain for people that are listening that may
40:16
Speaker 3: not be familiar with the area exactly where it is.
40:20
Speaker 5: Well, it's right. Well, the best part is this right
40:22
Speaker 5: off the interstate. It's easy access from it to get
40:25
Speaker 5: on and off the access. So it's like along the
40:27
Speaker 5: Pennsylvania Avenue. It goes from Pennsylvania Avenue and down Washington
40:33
Speaker 5: Street West. The block party is on Tennessee Avenue, so
40:38
Speaker 5: it's right there in the middle, kind.
40:39
Speaker 3: Of and all kinds of different music, all kinds of
40:41
Speaker 3: different foods, things for the kids. It's pet friendly, so
40:44
Speaker 3: we got that taken care of. In the hours. It
40:46
Speaker 3: starts at noon, right, it starts.
40:47
Speaker 5: At noon, goes to six, and we also have Poda
40:49
Speaker 5: and effect. Now, so you're welcome to go to our
40:51
Speaker 5: local brewery which is our Charleston Nanabrew or the Wine Down,
40:55
Speaker 5: grab you a cup and walk over to the festival.
40:57
Speaker 3: That's been a huge success, has it not not only
41:00
Speaker 3: in that in the Elk City district, but in other
41:02
Speaker 3: areas as well.
41:03
Speaker 13: Yes, it has all.
41:04
Speaker 3: Right, Jennifer. You have a Facebook page or website or
41:08
Speaker 3: anything for more information.
41:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, we have our Charleston Nana Brewery page and
41:11

Speaker 3: your Journey towards Better Health Today. Tex says a lot
44:44
Speaker 3: of people who choose to do nothing. That was in
44:47
Speaker 3: quotation marks it's a bold claim that demands proof. Show
44:50
Speaker 3: us Dave that explain why the Republicans have done nothing
44:53
Speaker 3: to increase work participation. Not sure what why? It's up
44:58
Speaker 3: to them. I'll continue. What will you find if you
45:02
Speaker 3: get the facts? In stead? Decide your feelings. West Virginia
45:04
Speaker 3: has an older generation. Young and eager people leave because
45:07
Speaker 3: West Virginia is inhospitable to them. Republicans let opioid makers, doctors, pharmacists,
45:12
Speaker 3: et cetera, spread poison for at least a decade, resulting
45:16
Speaker 3: in several lost generations. Large coal mining and oil and
45:19
Speaker 3: gas companies extracted all value they could and then left,
45:22
Speaker 3: while our communities are stuck with all negative consequences and
45:25
Speaker 3: no jobs. That's not true. And the direct attack on education,
45:29
Speaker 3: worker rights, and social services by Republicans, which are part
45:32
Speaker 3: of the Republican effort to keep you down, says a
45:36
Speaker 3: texture tech. Says main Street, particularly when it was west
45:40
Speaker 3: side main Street, used to create great events to drive
45:43
Speaker 3: people to the West Side. A shame that doesn't seem
45:46
Speaker 3: to happen anymore. I want to get a plug in
45:48
Speaker 3: for one of my favorite guys in the world, Jim

46:38

46:41
Speaker 3: by Selango Law. By the way, Happy birthday to Ben
46:45
Speaker 3: Selanga who's celebrating their birthday today. As I said, I'll
46:48
Speaker 3: be flying solo today as my co host thirteen News
46:51
Speaker 3: and Tonight Live anchor made a barons off hanging out
46:53
Speaker 3: with the Jennifer Garner with the Education Alliance at their
46:56
Speaker 3: big event today. It has sold out. Just you and
46:59
Speaker 3: me today the lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com.
47:02
Speaker 3: I think the state school Board meeting is still going on.
47:06
Speaker 3: It was a long one. Brad writes about it this morning.
47:08
Speaker 3: The state Board assessing their options in dealing with the
47:12
Speaker 3: Governor's policy to allow religious exemptions when it comes to
47:15
Speaker 3: vaccination requirements. Now, this all goes back to the executive
47:18
Speaker 3: order from Governor Morrissey issued during the governor's first week
47:22
Speaker 3: in office. And you will recall that the governor called
47:26
Speaker 3: for specific legislation to allow families to declare religious and
47:29
Speaker 3: philosophical exemptions to the VACS requirements. Now it died in
47:33
Speaker 3: the legislature, of course. And you'll also recall the state
47:36
Speaker 3: Superintendent of Schools, Michelle Blatt, issued a directive to county
47:40
Speaker 3: school boards to follow the current law and not the
47:42
Speaker 3: executive order and was later rescinded that to memo that
47:46
Speaker 3: went out, and at the meeting yesterday, the state Board
47:48
Speaker 3: basically just said they're going to take it up in
47:51
Speaker 3: meetings this summer. This whole thing is going to court.
47:55
Speaker 3: As you may expect, Ohio County has already asked for
48:00
Speaker 3: legal opinion. Side notes. Superintendent Blat will be on talkline
48:03
Speaker 3: with Wilson and Meadows today. That should be interesting. There
48:06
Speaker 3: were several speakers at the meeting yesterday. One of those
48:08
Speaker 3: State Democratic Party chairing Delegate Mike Pushkin Hill also be
48:11
Speaker 3: on talk line today and in other news from the meeting,
48:15
Speaker 3: there was a lot of news came out of there.
48:17
Speaker 3: The state Board voted to take control of both the
48:19
Speaker 3: Tyler and Nicholas County school systems. Now I'm going to
48:22
Speaker 3: get into the Nicholas County situation on midday today during
48:25
Speaker 3: the two o'clock hour. And if we need more education news,
48:29
Speaker 3: Amelia Farrell nicely writing about this at West Virginia Watch.
48:33
Speaker 3: The Ward of Education of the state will now sue
48:36
Speaker 3: over the recently past bill that gives lawmakers the ultimate
48:39
Speaker 3: authority over school board policy. Now you knew that was
48:42
Speaker 3: coming as well. House Built twenty seven to fifty five.
48:45
Speaker 3: Amelia will be on Metro News midday with me to
48:48
Speaker 3: talk about that today. And as if you need something
48:52
Speaker 3: else to think about as it pertains to our court
48:54
Speaker 3: system in schools, word is a transit student, maybe compete.
48:58
Speaker 3: He actually is competing in the regional track and field
49:01
Speaker 3: of its and may possibly make it to the states.
49:04
Speaker 3: So yeah, more court stuff coming up the Dave Island
49:07
Speaker 3: showing five any Lie brought to you apart by Morgan
49:09
Speaker 3: to Morgan speaking of courts with more than twenty billion
49:11
Speaker 3: dollars recovered, they believe when you're injured, you deserve more.
49:13
Speaker 3: Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. How you doing, TJ.
49:18
Speaker 14: Meadows something man, Happy birthday to Ben Slango.
49:22
Speaker 3: Happy birthday, mister Solango. Yeah, yeah, it's awesome. County Commissioner,
49:26
Speaker 3: sponsor of Metro News podcaster podcasting A little bit of
49:29
Speaker 3: everything that guy does leads the band at halftime. I'm told,
49:32
Speaker 3: hind of like you a little bit of everything. I
49:35
Speaker 3: don't know about that. What was this you sent me
49:36
Speaker 3: last night? I mean, I'm getting ready to go to
49:39
Speaker 3: bed last night because I'm old, and you send me something. No,
49:44
Speaker 3: it's usually when I go to bed and I wake up,
49:46
Speaker 3: you know, I fall asleep at like nine o'clock and
49:48
Speaker 3: then I wake up and look at my phone say well,
49:50
Speaker 3: I'm going to send this out before I go. But yeah,
49:52
Speaker 3: you sent me this last night. Uh, they called you.
49:54
Speaker 3: It's somebody called Organized Chaos called you lover boy out
49:58
Speaker 3: here to thirsteen over the the richest of the rich.
50:01
Speaker 3: It's a nice picture of you and everything here. Why
50:03
Speaker 3: what's it all? It's not really me.
50:05
Speaker 14: I guess they could have just taken my picture off
50:07
Speaker 14: the Metro News website or X or something like that.
50:09
Speaker 14: But instead they had Ai. If you zoom in on it,
50:12
Speaker 14: they had Ai make a TJ replica, which I think
50:15
Speaker 14: is kind of cool.
50:15
Speaker 3: Oh that was Ai. That's Ai. If you zoom in,
50:17
Speaker 3: it's not me, Okay, it looks like me from this
50:20
Speaker 3: what is that in reference to? I mean, what did
50:21
Speaker 3: you do?
50:22
Speaker 14: So yesterday on talk line I made the outlandish bold.
50:26
Speaker 14: I guess some would say just plain wrong, although I
50:29
Speaker 14: believe it assertion that the quote unquote rich, which is
50:33
Speaker 14: what is rich? By the way, let's have a conversation
50:35
Speaker 14: on that.
50:36
Speaker 3: It's like the media pay their fair share? Yeah, pay
50:38
Speaker 3: their fair share.
50:40
Speaker 14: Seventy five percent of the income tax in this country
50:43
Speaker 14: is paid by the top ten percent. The bottom applauding
50:48
Speaker 14: by the way, the bottom fifty percent pay two point
50:51
Speaker 14: three percent. So you say you want them to pay more.
50:56
Speaker 14: Come on, they're already paying more than their fair share.
50:58
Speaker 14: Well it's a progressive tax, mister Meadows. Yeah, and how
51:03
Speaker 14: is that equitable? Look, if you tax someone into the
51:08
Speaker 14: stone age, they're eventually going to stop what they're doing.
51:12
Speaker 14: And people are like, well, you know, Triviadi one economics
51:15
Speaker 14: doesn't work. I told a little personal anecdote one of
51:17
Speaker 14: the highlights of my career. I went to work for
51:19
Speaker 14: a small family owned business. Guy gave me ten million
51:23
Speaker 14: dollars to go do something because he wanted to start
51:25
Speaker 14: a business. I've never had someone hand me ten million dollars.
51:27
Speaker 14: I appreciate the trust. I learned a lot. You know what, Dave,
51:30
Speaker 14: a poor person never handed me ten million dollars. I'm
51:33
Speaker 14: not being pejorative of poor I'm just saying these people,
51:35
Speaker 14: they invest, they start businesses, they do things with their capital.
51:39
Speaker 14: These are not bad things. And I'm tired of the same,
51:43
Speaker 14: I said tired. So anyway, that was the result of
51:46
Speaker 14: that nice little picture on Twitter there that I'm the
51:49
Speaker 14: GOP lover boy, and if only poor people paid more taxes,
51:53
Speaker 14: we'd have flying cars by now, I think was the quotes.
51:55
Speaker 3: All right, let me read the sex whiles as the texture.
51:58
Speaker 3: Trying to blame the GOP for people nothing but lazy
52:01
Speaker 3: and not being personally responsible for themselves is pathetic desperation
52:05
Speaker 3: at trying your darkness to convince yourself to progressivism is
52:08
Speaker 3: actually something that people here want talk about. Derangement. That
52:11
Speaker 3: was a text aimed at a text. All right, quickly, quickly,
52:15
Speaker 3: like twenty seconds, quickly, what's on the show today?
52:17
Speaker 14: Michelle Blat ten o six, Mike Pushkin ten thirty three,
52:20
Speaker 14: Hompy on set at eleven six, Brad Mack in the
52:24
Speaker 14: house at eleven thirty three.
52:26
Speaker 3: That your texts and so much more. All right and
52:29
Speaker 3: rich people drivel coming from Tjmatus. I'll be back. I
52:32
Speaker 3: met your news midday. We'll see you then. Until then,
