- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, welcome to The View from the Front.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: My name is Stan and I hope you're doing well from wherever you are joining us from.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm really honored that you're spending a little time with me, listening to the show today.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Not only means a lot to me personally, but it also means a lot to me because I know that anyone listening to this show really cares about our country.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And so that means a lot to me.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: We have a lot to cover in tonight's episode.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to get into it.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: But first, just in case this is the first time you've ever listened or heard my voice, let me tell you what this show is about.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Every week, I try to do three things in every episode.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: First, I cover defense news and hot spots happening around the world that could affect our country.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Secondly, I work to unite the nation and make you feel better and more optimistic about the country's future, because it's probably not as bad as you've been hearing.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Finally, at the end of each episode, I share some motivation and inspiration, because as you get older, it is easy to become diminished and pessimistic as you encounter all the hits and setbacks that life throws at you.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I want to help you fight back against that.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: In All Honesty
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I feel that by the end of this show, you'll be a little better informed about our military and the events happening out there that don't typically make the news.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: You'll be a little more positive about our country and its future.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Finally, you'll be a little stronger emotionally and mentally.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: That's what my goal is, all while trying to unify our country, because our wide division and animosity toward each other is our country's greatest threat.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So if you've been looking for a calmer,
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: more optimistic news source, you've come to the right place.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: In fact, you may have come to just about the only place.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Let's get started.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: The first story I wanted to cover in today's episode involves the deadly attack that happened against an American base in Jordan.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Now, this has been all over the news, so I don't think you really need me to summarize it or go too much in detail on it since it has been, I think, about six days since it happened.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: President Joe Biden has said as of today, I'm recording this on Wednesday, that he has made a decision on how America will respond to that attack and he has vowed to hold, quote, hold all those responsible to account at a time in a manner of our choosing.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Now the interesting thing about this is that
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Asked about whether he holds Iran responsible for this attack since Iran has been supplying many of these groups, he said that, quote, he does in the sense that they're supplying the weapons to the people who did it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Now, a lot of Republicans have said this is the chance for the U.S.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: to really show some strength and attack targets inside Iran, but obviously the administration is concerned about
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: A much larger widening of the war in the Middle East.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So most, I've done a lot of research and most of the analysts that I have read out there are not expecting any kind of attacks inside Iran.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: It would just absolutely risk too much of a widening of the war, which could involve even countries such as Saudi Arabia, which is a huge rival of Iran.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Most of the security folks I've read expect the attacks, which are probably going to happen relatively soon, possibly even Thursday as you're listening to this, but to be a, quote, campaign that will last weeks.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Some of the targets, they're expected to be outside Iran itself, but they include strikes on potentially
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Iranian Naval Assets
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Now, a little history lesson.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Back in 1987, the US attacked two Iranian oil platforms in something called Operation Nimble Archer.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: You can look that up if you want to find out a little bit more about it.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: It's also highly expected that the US will use cyber operations to basically debilitate Iran and its ability to do some things.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: We've used cyber or I should say the US and Israel or someone in between has used cyber in the past to wreck Iranian efforts to create nuclear weapons.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: You may remember that many years ago.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Basically some type of malware or cyber attack was used.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: The machine started running too fast and they were heavily damaged.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: If you haven't signed up for the email alerts, I obviously do a newsletter in addition to the podcast.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Make sure you go to my Substack page, sign up for it.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I'll try to shoot out some emails as some of this stuff starts to happen or as we learn more about what the potential targets will be.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: I always try to send stuff out when anything big happens, but if you haven't ever signed up for the list, it's absolutely free.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Make sure you do so and I obviously send links to other news sites.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: and I go way more into the weeds than most of the stuff you'll see out there.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So if you haven't signed up make sure you do that.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: The next thing I wanted to cover was I wanted to do just a brief update on the funding situation for Ukraine.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: That's obviously one of the biggest stories happening out there and probably one of the biggest stories that I've been trying to cover since going back to what November, right?
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: This seems like we talk about this a lot.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So the latest on that is that the Republicans
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: The Pressure and the Pushback against that position of former President Donald Trump has been pretty huge because the border is a
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what happens there, but I did note and I have in the substack notes That as of Wednesday night there is some apparently the pushback against former President Donald Trump has already began to have some effect and there is a chance that as early as next week something could happen Now in the house the speaker Mike Johnson has said that it'll be dead on arrival So we'll just have to see what happens there
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: It will be hard for those Republicans campaigning next year to have voted down a border bill and to also have vote down aid to Israel which is very popular in the Republican Party especially
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: This is a major war.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Also, a little bit of positive news is Hungary, who has been holding up 50-plus billion dollars of European funding from the European Union, has shown, as of the latest news, that they're willing to potentially let through that funding as long as on a year-to-year basis they have some say-so on how much goes to Ukraine.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Now Hungary is heavily aligned with Russia and Putin and they've been holding up Ukrainian funding from the European Union for weeks and weeks.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I reported a couple weeks ago that the European Union had found a way to possibly bypass Hungary that really upset Hungary and got them scared of losing the power that they might have as they kind of get pushed to the side.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And so now they're suddenly saying, hey, we think we can let this aid through.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: So that's the latest news that's there.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Might be just a delaying tactic or it might be a little bit of good news.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: But I think they did read the tea leaves and see that they were just going to get bypassed and have no power.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: So hopefully they're going to let up and then hopefully, maybe as the pressure and the pushback on the Republican Party continues to build, maybe something can happen with that big bill from the Senate.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: I did fail to add one more point.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: The CIA director wrote a great column about why failing to pass additional aid for Ukraine would be a mistake of quote historic proportions and in it the CIA director made a really good point which is that
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Vladimir Putin has done a good job in the past couple of months.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: He'll sometimes push out this idea that Russia wants peace and they're ready to negotiate even though they've, you know, taken what 16% or so of Ukrainian lands and done all these war crimes.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: But the CIA director made a good point, which is that if we
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: So let's talk some Ukraine news.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: One of the biggest stories this week, and there's a couple of big ones, but the first one I want to get to is the president of Ukraine Zelensky has announced that he wants to dismiss the head of the army, the top military commander.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Now this has been going on for a few months, going all the way back to November.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: And the long-time listeners of the show will remember that back in November when Zeluzny, the head of Ukraine's military, did an article with The Economist.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: I went into a lot of detail about that because he really laid out some shocking statements in that.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what happens later this week.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: It's possibly gonna happen Friday Thursday Friday It's definitely a power struggle between two of the most powerful people inside Ukraine But Zelensky has apparently made up his decision Zelensky is very popular himself
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: I knew it was big back in November.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: I guess I thought they had mostly patched up but it has come to a head and so probably by the next time that we talk next week Zeluzny will no longer be the head of the Ukrainian military.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: I want to mention one other big thing about Ukraine news.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: This was an exclusive article from the Washington Post and
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Still hurting from last year's failed counter offensive in Ukraine, the Biden administration is putting together a new strategy that will de-emphasize winning back territory and focus instead on helping Ukraine fend off new Russian advances
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: while moving toward a long-term goal of strengthening its fighting force and economy.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: The emerging plan is a sharp change from last year.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: When the U.S.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: and allied militaries rushed training and sophisticated equipment to Ukraine in hopes that it could quickly push back Russian forces occupying eastern and southern Ukraine, that effort foundered largely on Russia's heavily fortified minefields and frontline trenches.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: This quote is from a senior administration official who talked to the Washington Post off record, quote, So this is obviously pretty big news because everyone who's in support of Ukraine had hoped that Ukraine could
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Have a successful counteroffensive this last year and then possibly prepare for one into the spring of 2024.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, they've been dealing with limited ammo, lots of funding uncertainty because the United States, one of the largest suppliers of Ukraine, has not been able to get anything through Congress since the end of November or December.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Now, the European Union has actually surpassed the United States, so it's not like it's just the US, but they've been stalled a bit by Hungary, so Putin has been very optimistic about his possibilities in Ukraine.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: And so at this point, it's just interesting that this article came out, because I think it's just a reality.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Ukraine is on its heels, it's having to play defense as it's dealing with limited amounts of artillery.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: I know all of you guys who've been listening to me week after week, I kept thinking, hey, they got to pass something in December or beginning of January after the New Year.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: They just went on for Christmas, right?
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: And Congress just has not.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: And so, unfortunately, the things that are happening in Washington and the things that are happening in Brussels and the European Union, those delays have real effects on the battlefield.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: And so that's what we're seeing.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Let's move to one other story in Ukraine.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: There was another prisoner exchange.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: More than 195 Russian soldiers were traded for 195 Ukrainian soldiers.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: That's great news for Ukraine.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: And I also wanted to update the article from a week or so ago about the plane that was shot down.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Again, Russia has provided no evidence that POWs were on board and I'm increasingly skeptical that there were Ukrainian POWs on board.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Some of the reporting I saw that Russia listed some POWs that were dead from this plane getting shot down.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Their planning was so bad that after this plane went down they couldn't even come up with some decent names or some decent proof that these high number of Ukrainian POWs had died.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: There was also some satellite imagery of that plane wreck and analysts say that there wasn't the type of evidence on the ground that would show that there were lots of bodies who had died.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: So yet again, as I say almost every week, Russia puts out falsehood after falsehood and it's hard to take almost anything they say seriously because most of the time it's just flat out lies or propaganda.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Just a quick reminder before we get to the next bit of news, if you want to support the show, you can do so easily by supporting the show with a $5 a month contribution.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: You can do that through Substack, you can do that through Patreon, you can even send a tip through Patreon or through Venmo.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: But again, if you enjoy the show, it's easy to support.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I do have big dreams for the show.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Would love to do more frequency, love to do some other things, but like most of you guys listening, I work a full-time job and so
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Before we leave Ukraine and move to China, there's just one brief thing I want to mention.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: If you look into the episode notes on Substack, which you can find a link to wherever you're listening to me from,
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: I put a photo in there because I just wanted to show you guys something.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: We've talked about for months and months the drones that come from Iran called the Shaheed drones.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: and the interesting thing is that for months and months this entire time I always assumed these drones were like maybe from the size of your waist to your head maybe like four foot or so but they actually managed to capture one or shoot one down that stayed mostly undamaged and I have a photo showing the size of this thing and I was blown away it is so much larger than I would have thought there are four men standing behind
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: and you just forget that some of these drones are much larger than you would possibly think so if you want to see a photo of just how big these are that have been targeting the electrical stations and other places inside Ukraine you can see a photo of one in the episode notes and it's worth seeing because it's it's it's almost it looks basically like the size of a car it's pretty big
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Now let's move to China and I want to handle this story very carefully.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: We're just going to cover one story regarding China.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: We're going to keep it relatively short.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: The FBI director testified to Congress this week about the threat from cyber from China.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Now I said I wanted to handle this carefully and that's because so many news outlets have really blown up this news and made it scary and one of the things I've always tried very hard to do is never do clickbait, never overly scare people.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: So I want to handle this story carefully and I guarantee you I cover it differently than everywhere else you saw it this week.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: So the FBI director testified to Congress and talked about how China has shown a renewed interest in preparing and potentially at some point launching destructive cyber attacks against our electrical grid, against our water utilities, against military organizations, other critical services,
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: The FBI Director talked about that this was a change from in the past China has mainly focused on stealing state secrets and on espionage, but now they're planning on ways that they could hurt us if we ever tried to intervene in Taiwan.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Taiwan is obviously the island to the south of China, that China continues to threaten and potentially warn of a future invasion.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: We have said that we would, although we're ambiguous, it's pretty clear that we would probably get involved and prevent China from taking that island.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: So China has said, okay, if you want to do that, we're going to do something to the US that would sow panic and cause people to be disheartened.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: So it's a little scary to think about that, and I'm going to counter that in just a second.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: But the final point that the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, made is that China has a huge edge on their cyber abilities over the U.S.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: In fact, the FBI director said in open testimony that China-backed hackers outnumber the FBI's total cyber and intelligence resources

- 24:50SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: If China were to do the things that they are potentially capable of doing, any type of cyber attack that attacked utilities, that attacked our infrastructure, the electrical grid, water, etc., the US has said that it would absolutely
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: For those who have been listening for a bit, on January 11th in the episode, just what, 2-3 weeks ago, I talked about our space race with China.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: And how China, and I mentioned a couple of things, and I have this in the episode notes so that if you're a new listener you can hear it again.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: But I talked about our massive, much stronger abilities in space compared to China.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: And in that episode, and I went to find these notes so that I could reshare them just briefly again, we talked about how from 2019 to 2023, that's four years, China doubled its number of annual space launches and they tripled their payloads.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: That sounds scary.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: It also sounds impressive.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: But at the same time that they doubled the number of space launches and tripled the payload,
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: The U.S.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: launched 13 times.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: So space launches quadrupled and our payloads were 13 times larger.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: So we blew them away.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: So again, those numbers were they tripled the payloads.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Our payloads were 13 times.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: They doubled the number of launches.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: We actually quadrupled.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: OK, so we're doing way more in space than they are.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: One other thing about space.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: In 2023, China launched 240 payloads to orbit.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: 240 Payloads
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: And so what usually happens in situations like that, the same as it happened with the Soviets for 50 plus years, is that you don't do anything crazy.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: You kind of do these little moves and as you see one side start to escalate, you're like, whoa, let's not cross the line.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: As I've said for months and months, as the Taiwan thing has been discussed for the past couple of years, China does not want to wreck its economic trade with us.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: All the things that China may want to do, such as
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Now before we end the news section and get to the inspiration and motivation part of the end of the show, I've got six links that I want to mention that you can find in the sub stack notes.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to keep the shows shorter, so here are the six stories that you can read for free in the sub stack notes.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: The first one is that the U.S.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: is currently
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Talking to Iraq about its long-term relationship.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: We've covered the past few weeks that, you know, Iraqi Prime Minister said a time or two he wants the U.S.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: out, but then he'll say off the record he wants us to stay.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Things are still pretty rough there.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Negotiations continue.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: You can read about that in a link.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: The second story I have linked is that the United States and Vietnam, the cooperation both militarily
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Pakistan and India accused India of conducting two assassinations on Pakistani soil.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: France has sent two additional long-range rocket launchers to Ukraine.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Ukraine has more sophisticated artillery, it just doesn't have the quantity or the amount of ammunition that Russia does, but that should help Ukraine balance that out.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: You can read that story.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: The fifth story I wanted to mention is that Ukraine has nearly, 95% complete, they have nearly completed a water pipeline to some of the residents that were affected by that dam.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: that was blown up by Russia, which initially Russia said they didn't do, which the whole world knew they did.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Later evidence proved that they did.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: But there have been some people seriously affected by the fact that that massive lake was completely emptied because this dam was blown up.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: You can read about that story.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: And then the final story, we mentioned elections in Taiwan, which is obviously the island south of China, last week and the week prior.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Because some of the tensions a little bit higher, Taiwan has extended the military service of its current soldiers.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Normally it's about a four-month rotation.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: They're extending that out to a year just so that they are more prepared in case China gets too aggressive or does something.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: Of course, China is routinely sending naval ships nearby, is routinely sending large numbers of jets as if they're
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: This is the motivation and inspiration section.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: I share these each week because I think all of us could use a few words of encouragement.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: We all influence those around us.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: So let's up our game for our kids, for our spouse, our friends, our co-workers.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Let's be real, the inches matter.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: and small amounts of progress pile up over time so this is our chance to get just a little bit more encouraged a little bit more on fire so i hope some of these that i read help you let me get to the first one here
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: Here's the quote.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: A year ago, I wasn't who I am today.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: A year from now, I aspire to be even better.
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: Personal growth takes time, but all great things do.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: So I've learned to stay patient.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: That's a good one.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: Next one's from Confucius.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Quote, it does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: That's another good one.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: Next one.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: Believe that you are worthy of making your dreams come true.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: We all beat ourselves up too much, don't we?
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Here's another one on patience.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Once the bamboo seed is planted, the farmer waters it every day.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: He does that for four years before the tree even breaks ground.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Four years!
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: When it finally does, it grows 60 feet in 90 days.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: Remember, good things take time to take root, but when they do, it's good and it
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Here's the next one.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Success is 1% idea, 99% doing.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: It's good to remember, isn't it?
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: 1% idea, 99% doing.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Quit overthinking it.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Get out there and do it.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: Next one.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: All children are artists.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: The problem is how to remain an artist once you grow up.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: That was a quote from Picasso.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: 1.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Work on yourself daily and watch your life change
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: We can work on those you can get stronger.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: You can get emotionally more healthy and you should Alright, here's the next one This is just such a great one, especially for those people out there who over plan I know all of us have a tendency to do that.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: The quote is go as far as you can see When you get there, you'll be able to see further.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Isn't that great?
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Go as far as you can see when you get there.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: You will be able to see further
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Now I always like to end with two from the Bible just because that book has been such a source of strength and wisdom and calm for me this past year as I obviously went through the cancer treatments with my mom and then she unfortunately passed so I do like to share a couple from the Bible.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: Now this first one's from Hebrews chapter 10 verses 23 and 24.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: Let us hold unswervingly
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: Unswervingly, what a word, let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: For he who promised is faithful.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: How can you not agree with that?
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: So that again was from Hebrews chapter 10 verses 23 and 24.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: Now this next one is from the book of James chapter 4 verse 8.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: Come near to God and He will come near to you.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: So again, come near to God and He will come near to you.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: I always like to end with this one.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Be the reason someone smiles.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: Be the reason that someone feels loved and believes in the goodness of people.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's the goal, right?
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Regardless of your faith, be a decent human being and love your neighbor as you love yourself.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for joining us on this episode.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I hope as you go through this week, you act a little nicer on social media and in the world as well.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: But I know it's social media that mostly gets us in trouble because you can be anonymous on there.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: But please remember that most Americans are good and they will help you in an emergency, even those you don't agree with politically.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Now I have to finish with two things.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: I want to say a bit about myself and my books, and then I want to say something, a few words for those who may be struggling with PTSD, which I like to do every episode.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: First, the bit about myself and my books.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: If you don't know, I'm a military vet who spent four years in the Marine Corps, all of that time in the infantry.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: After my enlistment, I went to college.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: I became a journalist.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: I spent more than 10 years in the news business.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Besides all of that, I've written 12 books.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: Those books include a series about a Marine Corps sniper, several books about a police detective and a private investigator.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: They're both veterans as well.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: One's a Marine Force recon guy, one's an Army Ranger.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: I've also written a few books about war such as World War II and Afghanistan.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: You can find all of these books on Amazon.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: Just search my name Stan R Mitchell.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: Make sure you include that R or you can find the links in the sub stack notes.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: I've been very fortunate guys.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: I've sold 70,000 copies to date and that is largely because of people like you all because they are independently self-published.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Now I like to end every episode by talking about PTSD or suicide with veterans.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: Veterans are 57% higher risk of suicide than those who never served.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: But this isn't just for veterans.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: We all can get in some low spots in our life.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: I just want to remind you, I want to challenge you to think about the fact that if you are in that spot, it's just a season.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: It's a valley.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: We all go through them.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: I know most of you probably won't do that.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: It's hard to reach out for help, and that's why so many of us don't.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: But I just need to say a few things and be just mean to you for just a second.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: You cannot give up.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: You cannot lose this fight.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: You cannot make your family or your friends plan your funeral.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: How brutal would that be?
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: Stan R Mitchell Podcast Episode 2-1-24
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: Don't leave your wife or kids here without you.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: You can hold on another day.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: And if you do, I promise the next day will get a little easier.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: If you're in a fight you worry you may lose, call someone.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: Call a friend or family member.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: I beg of you.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: Or call 988-SELECT-1.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Do not let the devil convince you that you will not be missed.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: That no one cares.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: That no one can understand what you're going through.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: If you have some kind of faith, lean on that.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: If you don't, then cry out to Jesus.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: He can save you.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: He can drive out the devil and the horrendous evil thoughts in your head.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: He wants you to reach out to Him.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: You just need to reach out and ask for help.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: If you have some other faith, again, lean on it.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: But if you don't, I'm here to tell you Jesus loves you and cares about you more than you can possibly know.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: You can reach Him at any time just through prayer.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: You can start digging in the Bible.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: If you don't have a Bible, you can download it on your phone.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: You can find Bible websites online.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: The View from the Front by Stan R Mitchell
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: Don't fall for those temptations while you're in this little valley.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: There's some mission for you.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: Don't be isolated.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: Start getting out some.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: Join a veterans group.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Visit a church.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Just stop being so isolated.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: Think about what you can do in the future to help others.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Coach a little league.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: Help others with PTSD.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: Run for office.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Just don't be isolated.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: If you are struggling, again, please call 988-SELECT-1 or start moving toward God.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: If you're like, eh, I don't know about all that, I have a link in the sub stack notes or the episode notes to an article I wrote called Be Like Ozzy.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: Go near your master.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: It's a story I wrote about my dog, but a lot of people say it helps.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: Check it out.
