- 0:18[on-hold music] Good news, I know, about the rainforest, about the Amazon. A week ago, if you had asked someone in the know, "What does the future of the Amazon look like?"
- 0:35They would've said, "Not great, Bob." And this is despite the last 12 months having the least forest cleared of any year since 1988. Amazing.
- 0:45And that's because of President Lula, the current president, who's been protecting it for the past three years. But the vibes were bad because President Lula is up for re-election and was running against the,
- 0:58funny story, son of the disgraced, racist, fascist former president who tried to conduct a coup, who then fled to America, and Lula was losing.
- 1:12And it was close enough, though, that it went to a runoff, and unexpectedly, Lula won. This is fantastic news, for the Amazon, at least. Is Brazil's economy still a mess? Sure. But I'm gonna take the fucking win today.
