- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush The Truth about Sororiti Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Davey.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler. Hi you guys, Welcome back to
- 0:13Speaker 2: another episode of Dirty Rush, Rush Week, Best Week of
- 0:17Speaker 2: your life or absolute nightmare. Let's get into it. So
- 0:21Speaker 2: now I am bringing in Logan. Hello, miss Logan. Hi,
- 0:25Speaker 2: how are you doing?
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm so good?
- 0:27Speaker 3: How are you?
- 0:28Speaker 2: We're good? So I heard that you have a story
- 0:32Speaker 2: for us. I heard that you really loved the rush process.
- 0:35Speaker 3: First of all, yes, I loved it so much.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I actually wasn't super involved until like the process and
- 0:41Speaker 4: now I'm like super close with the girls after it.
- 0:43Speaker 4: So it was like it was it really surpassed my expectations.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Wow, there was no nerves. There was I mean, it
- 0:50Speaker 2: sounds like you went in. Did you know a lot
- 0:52Speaker 2: about what it was going to be before it started
- 0:55Speaker 2: or was everything sort of a surprise to you?
- 0:58Speaker 3: I knew nothing.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I also miss so we do spring rush and
- 1:03Speaker 4: we have recruitment workshops in the fall, and I missed
- 1:06Speaker 4: all of them because obligations.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So I knew nothing.
- 1:10Speaker 5: But it wasn't super complicated.
- 1:12Speaker 3: It was just so fun.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, well, tell us a story that you've have.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I'm very excited to hear it.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 5: So, basically, SO is known to be like one of
- 1:25Speaker 5: the top houses, and it can get competitive with you know,
- 1:29Speaker 5: on the row, and people like to talk about which
- 1:32Speaker 5: one is like the top.
- 1:33Speaker 4: So there's definitely, like, even though everyone says like it's not,
- 1:36Speaker 4: there's definitely a subconscious like competitiveness with.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Rush and getting the girls that we want.
- 1:42Speaker 4: And so there was another top house that wanted this
- 1:45Speaker 4: one specific girl.
- 1:46Speaker 3: She was like awesome, super cool, and so she was on.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Everyone's radar and they want Another top house accidentally dropped
- 1:54Speaker 4: her because they on their like computer system, they there
- 1:58Speaker 4: was a girl with the same name, and so they
- 2:00Speaker 4: switched it up and they rated her super low.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And once the ratings get sent in, there's nothing you can.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Do about it afterwards, and so every rating each day
- 2:10Speaker 4: carries on to like the next rounds, and so it's
- 2:13Speaker 4: really important to rate people like correctly.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Because then it can you know, because it's a two
- 2:19Speaker 3: way process. It's the house, but it's also panelmic who.
- 2:23Speaker 6: Like finalizes the rankings, and they accidentally dropped her and
- 2:28Speaker 6: they texted her, which was not allowed and they asked
- 2:32Speaker 6: her to drop the process so that they could give
- 2:34Speaker 6: her a snapped, but she ended up just going to
- 2:38Speaker 6: and so we have her now. But they really wanted her,
- 2:42Speaker 6: and apparently it was like a really big deal in
- 2:44Speaker 6: their house and they all got in trouble for it.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I have so much Wait, I have so many questions
- 2:48Speaker 2: around this. First of all, they into big trouble.
- 2:51Speaker 4: You can't do that totally, and you can't you're not
- 2:53Speaker 4: supposed to be texting.
- 2:55Speaker 2: No one ratted them out.
- 2:56Speaker 3: No, I know this from like a good friend.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Right, So yeah, oh so you guys were psyched. So
- 3:04Speaker 2: and the other question I have is what made her
- 3:07Speaker 2: such a valuable candidate? What was it about her that
- 3:09Speaker 2: everybody wanted her.
- 3:11Speaker 4: She's on a sports team, and we love like girls
- 3:15Speaker 4: who are athletes, is they're like really cool and they're driven,
- 3:19Speaker 4: and she's also like gorgeous and so of course like
- 3:23Speaker 4: like and she's like so nice and kind, and so
- 3:26Speaker 4: she was just one of the ones who, like, before Rush,
- 3:29Speaker 4: we were like notified to like look out for this girl.
- 3:31Speaker 4: And so I'm pretty sure with many of the other
- 3:34Speaker 4: sororities that was probably the same case. So she was
- 3:38Speaker 4: definitely someone that we had our eye on, and so
- 3:41Speaker 4: for girls like that, you have to be like really
- 3:43Speaker 4: careful because things like you know, like mistakes like that
- 3:48Speaker 4: are like very unfortunate.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Was she a star athlete?
- 3:52Speaker 4: Yeah, so she's a freshman, but like even income even
- 3:56Speaker 4: last year, I know, people were talking about her she's
- 3:59Speaker 4: like star athlete and like like all like everyone who
- 4:04Speaker 4: talks to her. So she's like super nice and so
- 4:06Speaker 4: like just having that balance and we really like athletes,
- 4:09Speaker 4: like I said before, just because like having like people
- 4:12Speaker 4: in like diverse clubs and like just athletes for us
- 4:17Speaker 4: are always at the.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Top of the list.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That is so interesting and I mean I think also
- 4:23Speaker 2: like it's very telling. So the fact that you guys,
- 4:26Speaker 2: I'm almost positive that that is not like that sorties
- 4:32Speaker 2: don't share that as in terms of like one of
- 4:34Speaker 2: their values, like you have to be athletic. Most don't.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I mean I do, right, But it's right, great, it's
- 4:40Speaker 2: a great thing because I think that that our listeners
- 4:43Speaker 2: like you might do something. Maybe it's that you're a
- 4:45Speaker 2: brainyac maybe it's that you're an athlete, maybe it's that
- 4:49Speaker 2: you are so philanthropic, right, but that that is part
- 4:52Speaker 2: of the process figuring out not just like who's cute
- 4:56Speaker 2: enough to be with us, but who's going to fit
- 4:58Speaker 2: in and why totally.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Totally, And that's like for us, Like.
- 5:04Speaker 7: I I think that's kind of what sets us up
- 5:07Speaker 7: for is because we do look for people in like
- 5:10Speaker 7: different you know, people who are pre med, like that's
- 5:14Speaker 7: very important to us.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Like, yeah, so we like to like we really want
- 5:18Speaker 4: like driven girls, and we also want a really diverse group,
- 5:21Speaker 4: and so that's like not knowing anything about the rush
- 5:25Speaker 4: process going in and hearing things like that is honestly
- 5:28Speaker 4: kind of refreshing because like you hear like the horror
- 5:31Speaker 4: stories about you know, other sororities and other schools where
- 5:34Speaker 4: it's like, oh, we're only looking for this type of
- 5:36Speaker 4: girl at least in.
- 5:37Speaker 3: My house, that's not the case at all, which is
- 5:40Speaker 3: very refreshing to hear.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that it. Do you think that that's
- 5:44Speaker 2: the case. Do you think most of the house is
- 5:46Speaker 2: a feel that way or do you think a lot
- 5:49Speaker 2: of most of them are sort of more shallow for
- 5:52Speaker 2: lack of a better word.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it honestly depends, because there are great
- 5:57Speaker 4: girls in every house, but there's also girls that I
- 5:59Speaker 4: don't get along with than other houses as well, So
- 6:01Speaker 4: it kind of just a.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Possible logan that's not true.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Well not necessarily like not get along with, but people
- 6:09Speaker 4: like I probably wouldn't vibe with as much as other people,
- 6:13Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yes, yes, so okay, So I love that story. I
- 6:18Speaker 2: think it's it's really insightful. Tell me about your personal experience.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I know it sounds like you loved it. You didn't
- 6:24Speaker 2: really know what you were getting into it worked out
- 6:27Speaker 2: for you. Were there any moments where you like, what
- 6:29Speaker 2: am I doing? What have I gotten myself into? Or
- 6:32Speaker 2: did you just really feel excited and you know, energized
- 6:37Speaker 2: by the whole process.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I was more so on the like excited side.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I like talking to people a lot, and so like,
- 6:44Speaker 4: even on the first rounds when there were people who
- 6:48Speaker 4: you know, weren't necessarily a fit in or sort, I
- 6:51Speaker 4: still had a great time talking to them. And I
- 6:53Speaker 4: one of the girls who I rushed. She didn't end
- 6:57Speaker 4: up making it into but I've been texting her every
- 7:00Speaker 4: day since and we're we've become friends.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So like, just the process is like so cool.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Because you meet so many people, and yeah, it was awesome.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Like when you were going through though, like.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Oh oh yeah, wait, I loved Sorority rush on both sides.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Last year when I rushed, I loved.
- 7:18Speaker 4: It's the same thing like I loved like talking to people,
- 7:22Speaker 4: but I had We were here during the Palisades fire,
- 7:26Speaker 4: so some of our rounds were on zoom, so that
- 7:28Speaker 4: was a little bit unfortunate for us.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, my daughter had that. So let me ask
- 7:32Speaker 2: you this, are you self confident person, you know, would
- 7:36Speaker 2: you describe yourself like going into it? We're just talking
- 7:40Speaker 2: uh with someone else about she has just had a
- 7:43Speaker 2: great attitude about rush and just sort of it's going
- 7:46Speaker 2: to work out, period. Even if I don't get in,
- 7:48Speaker 2: it's going to work out. So it sounds to me
- 7:50Speaker 2: like going in you didn't have a lot of insecurity
- 7:52Speaker 2: around it, or like are they gonna like me? Are
- 7:55Speaker 2: they not like me? How do you approach it that
- 7:58Speaker 2: it was such a good experience. Do you think it
- 8:00Speaker 2: is about how you approached it or just your specific
- 8:02Speaker 2: to your experience.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I think also for me going through spring rush, I
- 8:09Speaker 4: think it's a little bit different because I made my
- 8:12Speaker 4: friend group fall semester, and so I knew that whatever
- 8:16Speaker 4: happened a less at stake because I know for my
- 8:21Speaker 4: friends at schools with fall rush, a lot of their
- 8:24Speaker 4: friend groups are mainly girls and their sorority because it's
- 8:27Speaker 4: who you're thrown into like life with, as you know,
- 8:31Speaker 4: a fresh college student. And me having my friend group first,
- 8:36Speaker 4: I think really helped me to be more confident and
- 8:39Speaker 4: less insecure about the process. But even going into it
- 8:43Speaker 4: without having, you know, the thought of my friend group,
- 8:47Speaker 4: I just kind of took it day by day, and
- 8:48Speaker 4: I like it's the cliche, but I think whatever is
- 8:51Speaker 4: meant to be truly will be. And not having your
- 8:55Speaker 4: mind set on a specific house before you go into it,
- 8:58Speaker 4: I think is the advice I could give because that
- 9:02Speaker 4: happened to one of my friends last year who was
- 9:05Speaker 4: only set on one house and so she was pretty
- 9:10Speaker 4: close minded and it didn't work out well for her.
- 9:12Speaker 4: So I think that going through RUSH with just being
- 9:16Speaker 4: open to like and not listening to like rankings that
- 9:20Speaker 4: people tell you, I think just being open minded is
- 9:22Speaker 4: definitely the best way to go.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I love that. So let me ask you this, where
- 9:26Speaker 2: you at all conflicted in terms of what house to choose,
- 9:29Speaker 2: I mean, I think that would be stressful, Like you know,
- 9:31Speaker 2: it feels like maybe it is a really important decision.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Were you so or did you just know?
- 9:38Speaker 3: I kind of knew.
- 9:41Speaker 4: The second I walked into Like it's like it's so cliche,
- 9:44Speaker 4: but truly, like that was the house that I was
- 9:47Speaker 4: most nervous to go into, but it was like good
- 9:49Speaker 4: nurs It was like, I'm so anxious to go into
- 9:52Speaker 4: the house because I'm so excited to talk right to
- 9:54Speaker 4: like another girl.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I was conflicted a little.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Bit at the reference around because the other house that
- 10:04Speaker 4: I want to did really well, like just like making
- 10:09Speaker 4: you feel like so wanted there. But I just thought
- 10:12Speaker 4: to myself, I was like, what, like, not not just
- 10:16Speaker 4: this day, but throughout the whole process, what where was
- 10:19Speaker 4: my heart really at? And so that's kind of where
- 10:23Speaker 4: like that is what led me to my decision.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Are you an athlete?
- 10:27Speaker 8: No?
- 10:27Speaker 3: But I was in high school.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You're okay, Yeah, you're athletic. I hope. Yes, it sounds
- 10:35Speaker 2: like you had a great experience, which we love. And
- 10:38Speaker 2: are you having as good of an experience being in
- 10:40Speaker 2: a sorority?
- 10:42Speaker 3: Yes? Wait, sorry, yes, having so much fun.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It's awesome, all positive. Yes, we love that. Well, I'm
- 10:50Speaker 2: not surprised. I look at you. You're adorable and sweet and.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I want you.
- 10:55Speaker 2: You're very welcome. Oh, thank you so much, thank you
- 10:57Speaker 2: for joining us.
- 10:59Speaker 9: Bye okay, bye.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Okay, guys. So now I'm bringing in Riya Hi. Hi,
- 11:19Speaker 2: So miss Riah, where did you go to school? What
- 11:22Speaker 2: store do we win?
- 11:23Speaker 10: I went to Loyola Marymount University in LA and I
- 11:26Speaker 10: was in Alpha FI.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So was my daughter. Okay, not at Loyola. Oh and
- 11:31Speaker 2: we're talking about Rush. If you liked it, if you
- 11:34Speaker 2: didn't like it, some of the highlights, some of the
- 11:36Speaker 2: low lights. Did you have a good experience going through Rush?
- 11:40Speaker 10: So my Rush experience was kind of like this call.
- 11:42Speaker 10: It was on zoom because I was in twenty twenty right,
- 11:47Speaker 10: so it was the spring of twenty twenty one. And
- 11:50Speaker 10: I feel like I can't like comment on like whether
- 11:53Speaker 10: or not it was enjoyable because it was not as
- 11:56Speaker 10: stressful as it could be since it was all online.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I think that you'd I think you'd find well from
- 12:02Speaker 2: people that we've spoken to. Some I think some girls
- 12:05Speaker 2: felt like it was more stressful because it was online.
- 12:07Speaker 10: I don't know. I feel like the because like I
- 12:11Speaker 10: feel like so much of Rush I always thought it
- 12:13Speaker 10: was like the outfits and like the looking certain ways,
- 12:16Speaker 10: so I just needed to make sure that, like my
- 12:17Speaker 10: color bone looks good.
- 12:18Speaker 3: And then I was.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Right, which is what we do now I'm in sweatpants,
- 12:22Speaker 2: so yeah, exactly, yes. Yeah, so it sounds like it
- 12:26Speaker 2: was no pleasant for you. I think I just.
- 12:30Speaker 10: Hadn't talked to new people in so long that I
- 12:33Speaker 10: was like so bubbly and excited to talk to anyone, right,
- 12:37Speaker 10: and obviously, like during rush, like they have to seem
- 12:41Speaker 10: interested in you all the Sometimes some of them didn't,
- 12:43Speaker 10: which I was like, wait, that's the whole point. So
- 12:45Speaker 10: it was nice to be able to like just talk
- 12:47Speaker 10: to older girls. And I hadn't really met anyone because
- 12:51Speaker 10: it was online.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Okay, did you know anyone that was going to Loyola?
- 12:55Speaker 10: I knew people my age, but other than that.
- 12:58Speaker 2: No, okay, okay, So but you were you were pretty
- 13:01Speaker 2: much just going in fresh like a freshman, right. So yeah,
- 13:06Speaker 2: So okay, so tell me, because it sounds like you
- 13:09Speaker 2: had a good experience. Tell me some of the highlights.
- 13:11Speaker 10: I mean, I got my top choice story, so I
- 13:14Speaker 10: feel it in that situation, I feel like that's obviously like.
- 13:19Speaker 2: How did you know they were your top choice just
- 13:21Speaker 2: from like ex how you didn't?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Okay, it was the like experience.
- 13:25Speaker 10: I mean also LU has like five stories. It's not
- 13:28Speaker 10: a big got it. It's not a big like SEC school.
- 13:31Speaker 10: But so there weren't that many options that I knew
- 13:33Speaker 10: I was choosing between like two, and I had like
- 13:39Speaker 10: I just felt like the girls in the other story,
- 13:41Speaker 10: like I really liked to preft me, but I didn't
- 13:44Speaker 10: like a lot of the conversations I was having, so like, holistically,
- 13:48Speaker 10: I liked Alpha Fey more than my other choice.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Couldn't you expand on that? What kind of like what
- 13:53Speaker 2: didn't you like about the in terms of conversations?
- 13:56Speaker 10: I mean, I feel like it might have just been
- 13:58Speaker 10: like I don't like think that this is personal. It's
- 14:01Speaker 10: probably just like part of that. It was like the
- 14:02Speaker 10: first semester they'd ever done it. So I just felt
- 14:05Speaker 10: like a lot of some of the girls were like
- 14:06Speaker 10: clearly not paying attention to me at all or like
- 14:09Speaker 10: just like being a little bit like, oh that's that's great.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Yeah, but they weren't going right. They weren't. It wasn't
- 14:15Speaker 2: they weren't deep.
- 14:16Speaker 10: Yeah, I just seemed like they wanted it to like
- 14:19Speaker 10: me to move on, so right, right, I didn't feel
- 14:22Speaker 10: like they felt like that actually invested in it, which
- 14:25Speaker 10: obviously is like just part of like the recruitment process
- 14:28Speaker 10: and like it's an accident. But that was like the
- 14:30Speaker 10: impression I.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Got, right right. I think that's that's probably how it goes,
- 14:35Speaker 2: whether it's Zoom or live. Yeah, I mean, maybe people
- 14:39Speaker 2: and there's you know, a lot of it is first
- 14:41Speaker 2: impressions are hard and that's what people go off of.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But again, you enjoyed the experience. We've had, you know,
- 14:46Speaker 2: callers that really didn't and had a horrible rush experience.
- 14:51Speaker 2: So I'm glad that it was that it was good
- 14:53Speaker 2: for you, even though it was zoom. Any parts of
- 14:56Speaker 2: it that you love the best.
- 14:57Speaker 10: I mean I just loved, like I think the process
- 15:00Speaker 10: of actually meeting people. I mean, so many of my friends,
- 15:03Speaker 10: like just because of the way that the social system
- 15:06Speaker 10: were set up, like to this day, are Alpha Fi girls,
- 15:10Speaker 10: and I feel like I had a lot of conversations
- 15:12Speaker 10: with them, like initially even during that little Zoom process,
- 15:15Speaker 10: where like I was like, oh my gosh, I would
- 15:17Speaker 10: totally be friends with her, and then they're like to
- 15:19Speaker 10: this day, like my best friend really, So I think
- 15:23Speaker 10: I was just really excited about the possibility of like friendship.
- 15:27Speaker 10: And it was like the first thing in college because
- 15:31Speaker 10: you know, just of how everything was that I was like, wow,
- 15:33Speaker 10: like I like I am meeting all these girls, Like
- 15:37Speaker 10: I'm like actually genuinely really excited about going to the
- 15:39Speaker 10: school because before that, I was like I don't even
- 15:41Speaker 10: know who goes to the school besides like who's in
- 15:43Speaker 10: my classes in our break down rooms.
- 15:45Speaker 1: But it was like the first time I was having like.
- 15:47Speaker 10: One on one, like genuine conversation.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So I was just so excited.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so great. Were you? And it's a weird question,
- 15:53Speaker 2: but I was talking to another caller about the fact
- 15:56Speaker 2: that they were doing it over zoom and her roommate
- 15:59Speaker 2: was right there doing it the same time. It made
- 16:00Speaker 2: it tricky did you did you have a single or
- 16:03Speaker 2: would do you have a roommate?
- 16:04Speaker 10: So we at ellem you, Uh, they didn't hope because
- 16:07Speaker 10: it was LA. So like we didn't open into like
- 16:09Speaker 10: our sophomore year, but second semester, a bunch of us
- 16:12Speaker 10: moved to LA. So we are living in a house
- 16:15Speaker 10: in Plia del Rey. So all three in my roommates
- 16:18Speaker 10: were rushing, but we had our own rooms.
- 16:20Speaker 2: So I only you know what it's no, I think
- 16:22Speaker 2: I'm asking. I think because for our listeners that haven't
- 16:24Speaker 2: gone through rush, somebody gave advice maybe don't talk about
- 16:29Speaker 2: it to your friends right as much as you can,
- 16:31Speaker 2: sort of not like you know, I love this house.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I didn't love this house, or you know, this house
- 16:35Speaker 2: definitely wanted me, so that almost that adds another level
- 16:40Speaker 2: of pressure.
- 16:41Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that would have been hard. Yeah, I
- 16:45Speaker 10: can imagine. I feel like we all like ended up
- 16:47Speaker 10: somewhere we were really happy about. And also I just
- 16:50Speaker 10: feel like at LLEM, like there's a little less pressure
- 16:53Speaker 10: than there is at other schools because it doesn't necessarily
- 16:56Speaker 10: determine like whether or not you're going to get into.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Like parties or like anything like that.
- 17:00Speaker 10: I ask you, if you don't get into a certain story,
- 17:03Speaker 10: it's like you can't go out. But like Ellem, it
- 17:05Speaker 10: wasn't necessarily like determining our social life or anything like
- 17:09Speaker 10: super serious. It's just kind of like the girls that
- 17:11Speaker 10: you were going to be grouped with, So it was
- 17:13Speaker 10: a little less high.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Stay So listeners, if you don't want it to be
- 17:18Speaker 2: your whole socialipe. Look, look at the service you're doing
- 17:20Speaker 2: right now, Ellen, here's the place for you. Yeah, you're
- 17:23Speaker 2: thinking of being a sorority, but you might not want
- 17:26Speaker 2: to be. You could still get into the parties, which
- 17:28Speaker 2: I think is all that matters in college.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 10: No, it's not like as like people are being like, no,
- 17:33Speaker 10: if you're not an alplay, you can't go to this party.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Very chill, Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Right right, I love that. Okay, thank you so much
- 17:40Speaker 2: for coming on. Thank you for chatting with us. I
- 17:43Speaker 2: appreciate your sharing your experience.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Of course.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Okay, you guys, we are bringing in now. Kristin, Hi, Kristin, Hi,
- 17:51Speaker 2: how are you good? Thank you for joining us.
- 17:54Speaker 8: Of course.
- 17:55Speaker 2: So, Kristin, what school did you go to? Do you
- 17:58Speaker 2: go to? Did you right?
- 18:00Speaker 8: I graduated in twenty twenty three and I went to Cuboulder.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Nice. Oh, I know a lot of kids there right now.
- 18:06Speaker 2: What Storty were you in? I was in dig Okay,
- 18:10Speaker 2: So we're talking today about Rush and we're getting a
- 18:14Speaker 2: lot of different points of view. It's a I think
- 18:17Speaker 2: though across the board people while the girls are saying
- 18:19Speaker 2: it's an intense two weeks two weeks, right, I can't
- 18:24Speaker 2: even remember about two weeks about it or take tell
- 18:27Speaker 2: us a little bit about your experience.
- 18:29Speaker 8: Yeah, so I actually had a relatively positive experience. So
- 18:34Speaker 8: a little bit of a flash forward. When I was
- 18:37Speaker 8: in high school, I moved like across the country my
- 18:39Speaker 8: junior year, so kind of had that as something to
- 18:43Speaker 8: talk about going into rush, which made it very easy.
- 18:47Speaker 2: And during that time of.
- 18:48Speaker 8: My life, I was exposed to having to meet new
- 18:51Speaker 8: people and about certain things. So when I was in
- 18:55Speaker 8: this process, I was able to bring that up and
- 18:58Speaker 8: relate to, you know, the struggles of having to push
- 19:01Speaker 8: yourself outside of your comfort zone. Who I was able
- 19:04Speaker 8: to rely on during those tough times, and that like
- 19:09Speaker 8: just sparked really good and engaging conversations with the girls
- 19:12Speaker 8: that I like rushed with.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Wait, I'm gonna stop you for one second, because we're
- 19:17Speaker 2: talking to another caller about how she's one of the
- 19:21Speaker 2: pieces of advice she gave is well, she said that
- 19:24Speaker 2: she just she was vulnerable, she was being authentic, and
- 19:27Speaker 2: she was she allowed herself to be vulnerable, and like
- 19:29Speaker 2: it sounds like from what you're describing, you know, you
- 19:32Speaker 2: were open to saying, you know, I learned sort of
- 19:36Speaker 2: how to talk to new people or I moved. That
- 19:39Speaker 2: wasn't easy? Is that true, because I'm well, you know,
- 19:41Speaker 2: our main objective here is try to get girls listening,
- 19:45Speaker 2: you know, give them some advice if we can do.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Do you feel like you were sort of vulnerable during it?
- 19:51Speaker 8: And I think that being vulnerable like allows you know,
- 19:54Speaker 8: the girls that you're talking to to see a side
- 19:56Speaker 8: of you that's different than everyone else. You know, you
- 20:00Speaker 8: have the same conversations each time you go to a
- 20:04Speaker 8: different house, and being able to connect, I think is
- 20:08Speaker 8: super important. And everyone's experiences are unique, So just kind
- 20:12Speaker 8: of using that and being able to relate to the
- 20:16Speaker 8: people you're talking with, I think is super important. And
- 20:19Speaker 8: that's how you'll they'll remember you too, if you're able
- 20:22Speaker 8: to like have a special story and not just say
- 20:25Speaker 8: you know, the basic stuff right right, oh scripted.
- 20:28Speaker 2: And it doesn't have to be you know, you don't
- 20:30Speaker 2: have to talk about the trauma of your life. It's
- 20:32Speaker 2: not therapy. But even just like what you just mentioned,
- 20:35Speaker 2: you know, listen and I had to move and I
- 20:38Speaker 2: had to learn how to sort of, you know, get
- 20:40Speaker 2: out of my comfort zone. I could see that helpful.
- 20:42Speaker 8: And then I also am pretty lucky. So I have
- 20:44Speaker 8: three sisters and we're all like sixteen to eighteen months apart,
- 20:47Speaker 8: so I have a lot of girl time and that
- 20:52Speaker 8: made it a bit easier for me too.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I think were they were they intabrities or are they ansarties?
- 20:58Speaker 8: So I have one older sister and two younger sisters.
- 21:01Speaker 8: My older sister and the third go to went to SMU,
- 21:05Speaker 8: and then the baby is a junior at Boulder and
- 21:10Speaker 8: she's also a DG, but we didn't overlap. But yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 8: we each had different experiences. My older sister and the
- 21:17Speaker 8: third they joined different sororities, so they kind of like
- 21:20Speaker 8: did their own thing. And I think that's really important too,
- 21:23Speaker 8: because there's pressure to be in the same sorority as
- 21:26Speaker 8: like a family member or you know, following in that legacy.
- 21:30Speaker 8: But really going into the experience like very authentically, you like,
- 21:35Speaker 8: that's how you find where you're.
- 21:37Speaker 6: Supposed to be.
- 21:38Speaker 3: And I feel like that's really important.
- 21:40Speaker 2: What was it do you think during during rush that
- 21:43Speaker 2: really just convinced you to go DGI? Right is what
- 21:47Speaker 2: you said. Yeah, we have a lot of DJs today.
- 21:50Speaker 8: So the girl that I met on the first day
- 21:54Speaker 8: ended up being my big I think that there was
- 21:57Speaker 8: just like we just had such a great conversation. I
- 21:59Speaker 8: don't even remember what it was about at this point,
- 22:01Speaker 8: but it just felt like I could see a friendship
- 22:05Speaker 8: with her and with all the other girls that I
- 22:07Speaker 8: talked to, And it was very different with all the
- 22:10Speaker 8: other conversations I had with the different houses. It was
- 22:14Speaker 8: just a feeling, I think for me, and I still
- 22:16Speaker 8: went into each house with a very open mind because
- 22:19Speaker 8: when I went to Boulder, I didn't know anyone really
- 22:22Speaker 8: in a sorority, so I didn't have, you know, the
- 22:24Speaker 8: stereotypes of what each sorority was, which ones were the
- 22:28Speaker 8: top houses, which were the bottom. So I wanted to
- 22:31Speaker 8: go in and make sure that I was picking for
- 22:33Speaker 8: me and not just like what was cool. And that
- 22:37Speaker 8: kind of played into the role of my roommate and
- 22:40Speaker 8: I didn't really talk about what houses we liked and which.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Funny, we were just talking about this. Yeah. We talked
- 22:47Speaker 2: about this a couple of times with a couple of
- 22:49Speaker 2: callers about how if you can try not to compare
- 22:54Speaker 2: and contrast with your roommate or your friends the are
- 22:57Speaker 2: going through it, maybe that maybe that's helpful.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Yeah, And we ended up in the same house. But
- 23:02Speaker 8: that's just that we were you know, meant to like
- 23:06Speaker 8: be but right.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I thought that that was.
- 23:08Speaker 8: Really important too, because especially the pressures of you know,
- 23:12Speaker 8: getting dropped the next day or if you didn't have
- 23:15Speaker 8: the best conversation with someone, you know, forcing that is
- 23:20Speaker 8: not very good. I think that in it, just understanding
- 23:24Speaker 8: what you like, the good conversations that you have is
- 23:27Speaker 8: the best way to do it. Yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Yeah, was it all positive your experience? Were there any negatives?
- 23:32Speaker 8: No, it was all positive for me. I got back
- 23:36Speaker 8: each house that I wanted every day, so it was
- 23:38Speaker 8: kind of my decision which ones to drop, which is
- 23:43Speaker 8: very lucky. There was no heartbreaks in you know, opening
- 23:47Speaker 8: the list the next day and losing a house that
- 23:49Speaker 8: or getting dropped from a house that I wanted to
- 23:52Speaker 8: be at. So I think that made my experience way
- 23:55Speaker 8: more pleasant because you can see girls around you so
- 23:58Speaker 8: upset and bummed about, you know, getting dropped.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Well, also, I want to also have you sort of
- 24:07Speaker 2: again talk a little bit about how you didn't find
- 24:10Speaker 2: out top tier what like, that's not an easy thing
- 24:13Speaker 2: to I don't know any kids, and I have to
- 24:15Speaker 2: One of that was in frat woman in a sorority,
- 24:18Speaker 2: but like that went into it and didn't know exactly
- 24:20Speaker 2: what was top tier. Did you have to like make
- 24:23Speaker 2: a conscious effort to not find out?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Well, it could.
- 24:27Speaker 8: As the days went on, it got harder to do
- 24:29Speaker 8: that because the girls in line were talking about how
- 24:31Speaker 8: much they loved this house, and then you know, it
- 24:34Speaker 8: was a little bit quieter at other houses, and you know,
- 24:38Speaker 8: you could feel the energy in the line based on
- 24:41Speaker 8: like what was considered top house, because there are some
- 24:43Speaker 8: girls that put so much pressure on, you know, being
- 24:47Speaker 8: like their best selves for that house. But I just
- 24:51Speaker 8: kind of wanted to I really just based on the
- 24:54Speaker 8: conversations I had throughout the day and what girls I
- 24:58Speaker 8: could see myself being friends with.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Did you have advice before the experience? Did your mom
- 25:02Speaker 2: tell you this? And this is because I just think
- 25:04Speaker 2: that's such a great mature way to go into it.
- 25:07Speaker 2: My daughter went into it, and there was nothing I
- 25:09Speaker 2: could say to her. She wanted the top tier. I
- 25:11Speaker 2: was like going to throw up every time she'd say it.
- 25:14Speaker 8: I know, because that just makes it so much scarier
- 25:16Speaker 8: to me. Yeah, but my mom, she was in a sorority.
- 25:20Speaker 8: She went to buck now and she's still like best
- 25:23Speaker 8: friends with all of her her sisters, and my older
- 25:27Speaker 8: sister has great friends, and she did it the year
- 25:29Speaker 8: prior and she had a relatively good experience with hers too,
- 25:32Speaker 8: like she ended up becoming RUSH chair a few years
- 25:35Speaker 8: down the line. But I think it all stems back
- 25:38Speaker 8: to moving when I was younger, because you never know
- 25:42Speaker 8: what will happen when there's change, and just being okay
- 25:46Speaker 8: with adapting to it and whatever happens happens and it's
- 25:49Speaker 8: meant to be. And I've kind of always approached RUSH
- 25:54Speaker 8: in that same same way because I knew that, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 8: if that didn't work out, there's something well and you know,
- 26:01Speaker 8: if you put so much pressure on it, you're just
- 26:03Speaker 8: gonna get let down.
- 26:04Speaker 3: And I didn't want that. You know, as a freshman
- 26:06Speaker 3: first semester.
- 26:07Speaker 2: You knew, you said. I think you said you knew
- 26:09Speaker 2: right away or did you say you didn't know right away?
- 26:12Speaker 2: I can't remember, Like like when you first spoke to
- 26:16Speaker 2: this DG. Was it like, Okay, this one's for me
- 26:19Speaker 2: or did it take while?
- 26:20Speaker 8: It definitely went up my list, and every day I
- 26:22Speaker 8: was like very excited to go back because each time
- 26:26Speaker 8: I met, you know, a new girl that I really liked,
- 26:30Speaker 8: but there were still other houses that I was like
- 26:32Speaker 8: happy to go to I really liked I think two
- 26:36Speaker 8: of the other ones. So as the days went on,
- 26:41Speaker 8: I kind of started leaning more towards DGI because those
- 26:44Speaker 8: conversations just kept getting better, and you know, girls would
- 26:48Speaker 8: come up and say hi from previous days, and it
- 26:51Speaker 8: like felt good to be remembered. And I remember on
- 26:54Speaker 8: pref nite, I was in between obviously two sororities and
- 26:59Speaker 8: they come down the stage and kind of take you
- 27:01Speaker 8: into this like more ceremony type night, and I knew
- 27:05Speaker 8: who was going to be coming down the stairs for
- 27:07Speaker 8: me in DG, but for my other house, I had
- 27:09Speaker 8: no idea, and every girl that I had talked to,
- 27:12Speaker 8: I thought, oh, maybe her, And then they picked up
- 27:15Speaker 8: another girl and then I was paired with this random
- 27:17Speaker 8: girl on the last night. So I was like, that
- 27:20Speaker 8: kind of proved to me too that it wasn't right right.
- 27:25Speaker 8: That was like a big tell for me. So it
- 27:27Speaker 8: was easy the next day after that to decide that
- 27:30Speaker 8: I wanted to be a DG.
- 27:31Speaker 2: It's funny, you know, obviously everyone has different experiences, and
- 27:35Speaker 2: I think it's different at every school. And now I
- 27:37Speaker 2: think of Boulder because I have a lot of friends
- 27:40Speaker 2: now with kids there, and I think of the school itself.
- 27:44Speaker 2: My kids didn't look at it. I wish that they had,
- 27:46Speaker 2: but I think of the school itself as sort of
- 27:49Speaker 2: more laid back. It's, you know, outdoorsy. I don't know
- 27:52Speaker 2: that it's crunchy, but I feel like what I've heard
- 27:56Speaker 2: is that kids that go to Boulder are I don't know,
- 27:59Speaker 2: accepting and tend to be, not all of them outdoorsy
- 28:03Speaker 2: and nice and kind and all of that. I wonder
- 28:06Speaker 2: if it's a different experience at Boulder, you know.
- 28:09Speaker 8: There's definitely an aside to that. I think that there
- 28:13Speaker 8: it is pretty intense. At the same time too, it
- 28:15Speaker 8: is a big part of the social aspect at Boulder
- 28:19Speaker 8: is Greek life, especially for I would say the first
- 28:23Speaker 8: two years, and then you know, once you hit junior year,
- 28:28Speaker 8: you've kind of established your friend group and that can
- 28:30Speaker 8: be within your sorority or you might have like a
- 28:32Speaker 8: few friends outside that. But ninety nine percent of my
- 28:35Speaker 8: friends still to this day we're all in my same sorority.
- 28:38Speaker 8: So there is the intensity around that too.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Anything that you would recommend do differently,
- 28:51Speaker 2: like the most any sort of things that we could
- 28:54Speaker 2: have our listeners tell our listeners about.
- 28:57Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that the most important thing is to
- 28:59Speaker 8: stay authentic to yourself and not put too much pressure
- 29:03Speaker 8: on rush. It is such an amazing thing if you
- 29:07Speaker 8: let it be, and it can change your life in
- 29:10Speaker 8: some amazing ways, and be ready for that. But it
- 29:14Speaker 8: might take some twists and turns along the way, and
- 29:17Speaker 8: it might not go as you expect it, but it
- 29:19Speaker 8: always works out. You know, it might seem like a
- 29:22Speaker 8: life or death thing freshman year, and then later down
- 29:26Speaker 8: the line you realize that it was meant to be
- 29:28Speaker 8: and you'll find your people, you'll find your happiness. Just
- 29:32Speaker 8: like trust the process. I know they always say that,
- 29:34Speaker 8: but I truly believe that you have to believe in
- 29:37Speaker 8: that to like find happiness within like sorority life, because
- 29:42Speaker 8: there is a lot of pressure and I think that
- 29:45Speaker 8: it's not necessary some of the times. But yeah, just
- 29:49Speaker 8: be important to be yourself and everything will work out.
- 29:54Speaker 2: You know, as you're talking, I'm thinking, and I haven't
- 29:57Speaker 2: asked anyone this before, but like we talked a little
- 30:01Speaker 2: bit with some of the girls about Okay, my sorority
- 30:03Speaker 2: was perfect because we really love athletes, and I was
- 30:06Speaker 2: very athletic in high school. Was there anything in your sorority,
- 30:10Speaker 2: any sort of I don't know, attribute or characteristic of
- 30:13Speaker 2: your sorority that you really related to, Like all the
- 30:16Speaker 2: girls are brainiacs or you know, these girls are very
- 30:20Speaker 2: down to earth.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Yeah, we have this saying that you know, all dji's
- 30:25Speaker 8: work hard and play hard, so like we all wanted. Yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 8: we wanted to work hard in terms of like school
- 30:31Speaker 8: and friendships and like our relationships with our families, but
- 30:34Speaker 8: also like there is that aspect of having fun and
- 30:38Speaker 8: doing it all together and doing it to you know,
- 30:41Speaker 8: whatever extremes you kind of want to do, And we
- 30:45Speaker 8: all were like there for each other. And I think
- 30:47Speaker 8: that it shows that I'm still friends with twelve of
- 30:50Speaker 8: my like sorority sisters to this day. Yeah, like texting
- 30:54Speaker 8: every day, you know, family At this point, it's they're
- 30:58Speaker 8: the best friends I could ask for. Even like my parents,
- 31:01Speaker 8: they always say that I found the best friends out
- 31:04Speaker 8: of like any of.
- 31:05Speaker 2: My sisters feel like that.
- 31:07Speaker 8: My sisters, I think they have some some jealousy towards it.
- 31:09Speaker 8: My friends were just an amazing group of girls and
- 31:13Speaker 8: so lucky that I found them and it took becoming
- 31:17Speaker 8: a DGI to find them so.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 31:21Speaker 2: That's so great. Okay, you guys, So now we are
- 31:40Speaker 2: bringing in Abby. Welcome to Dirty Rush.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 31:44Speaker 2: So, I know you went to Bulger and Abby, what
- 31:46Speaker 2: sorority were you in?
- 31:48Speaker 1: I was in Delsea, Gamma.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Okay, gee, we're talking really about Rush today, and we've
- 31:54Speaker 2: talked to quite a few girls, some who loved it,
- 31:58Speaker 2: some who liked it, and some who hated it. And
- 32:01Speaker 2: I think it's it's really interesting to you know, get
- 32:05Speaker 2: to hear from all ends of the spectrum. So you know,
- 32:09Speaker 2: tell us a little bit if you would, about your
- 32:11Speaker 2: Rush experience.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so I really honestly loved Rush.
- 32:16Speaker 11: I think I had an interesting experience before coming into
- 32:21Speaker 11: college because I went to really small girls school, kind
- 32:26Speaker 11: of grew up with the same group of girls almost
- 32:28Speaker 11: my whole life, and they're still my best friends. So
- 32:30Speaker 11: when I went to like a huge, massive state school
- 32:33Speaker 11: where I didn't know anyone and we rushed first semester,
- 32:37Speaker 11: I kind of just jumped into it to kind of
- 32:39Speaker 11: look for the sisterhood that I had grown up with.
- 32:42Speaker 11: So that aspect was really fun because I kind of
- 32:45Speaker 11: got to like thee which house, So which group of girls,
- 32:51Speaker 11: whether there were whether it was the girls who I
- 32:53Speaker 11: was rushing with or the older girls who were already
- 32:55Speaker 11: in houses, Like I kind of got to see which
- 32:59Speaker 11: group of people like almost reflected my friends from home
- 33:02Speaker 11: or like the girls that I grew up with.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Well, tell me a little bit if you wouldn't mind,
- 33:05Speaker 2: what did that mean for you?
- 33:07Speaker 8: So?
- 33:07Speaker 2: What were you looking for? Would the girls at home
- 33:09Speaker 2: have that you were looking for in a sorority?
- 33:11Speaker 12: In sorority sisters just like unconditional love, but also like
- 33:17Speaker 12: being totally yourself and being comfortable with each other's family
- 33:22Speaker 12: and being weird and like not being serious.
- 33:25Speaker 2: It was hard to know if that was those kinds
- 33:29Speaker 2: of if you know you were in rush, it happened
- 33:31Speaker 2: so quickly, could you identify those girls? Do you feel
- 33:34Speaker 2: like it was you were able to know, you know
- 33:37Speaker 2: which house was right for you looking for that type
- 33:40Speaker 2: of girl.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I definitely felt it. I felt it after the first.
- 33:47Speaker 11: Day after seeing every house for sure, Like I definitely
- 33:51Speaker 11: felt like there were houses where sometimes like my conversations
- 33:56Speaker 11: with people maybe didn't feel as genuine or like it
- 34:00Speaker 11: didn't flow the same way. We didn't get as deep
- 34:02Speaker 11: as some of the other places. So I had a feeling,
- 34:06Speaker 11: and then as the gays went on, it kind of
- 34:09Speaker 11: like each one separated more and more. So like I
- 34:13Speaker 11: knew from the beginning, I also went into bolder not
- 34:17Speaker 11: knowing anything about the houses. I didn't know what was
- 34:20Speaker 11: considered like a super social house or you know, like
- 34:23Speaker 11: a I didn't really know any of that.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Would you recommend that? Do you think that's that made
- 34:28Speaker 2: it easier or harder?
- 34:29Speaker 11: I think I preferred it that way for me because
- 34:31Speaker 11: I think if I knew, like I would have, if
- 34:34Speaker 11: I knew maybe the stereotypes or whatever each house, I
- 34:37Speaker 11: would have probably put more pressure on myself and like
- 34:41Speaker 11: thought thought through the things that I would say more.
- 34:45Speaker 11: But I remember after the first day, like the conversation
- 34:48Speaker 11: that I had in at Delta Gama, which is obviously
- 34:51Speaker 11: what I ended up being, was so like off topic
- 34:56Speaker 11: in a way, like it just.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Do you remember what it was?
- 35:00Speaker 1: Honestly?
- 35:01Speaker 11: Like no, but I remember it was my last house
- 35:03Speaker 11: of the day, but the first two days it was
- 35:05Speaker 11: the last house I had, and I didn't have a
- 35:07Speaker 11: voice like either of those days anymore. And so like
- 35:11Speaker 11: the girls who I was talking to, like we went
- 35:14Speaker 11: outside where it wasn't super loud and I didn't have
- 35:17Speaker 11: to scream, and like kind of just joked around about
- 35:19Speaker 11: the fact that like I was.
- 35:20Speaker 1: In rush and I could barely talk right, so just
- 35:24Speaker 1: like kind of goofy, But yeah, it was great. I
- 35:27Speaker 1: also really loved it because.
- 35:30Speaker 11: At the end of the day, like people liked to
- 35:32Speaker 11: talk about themselves, and I think like Rush was a
- 35:35Speaker 11: really fun place where you could talk.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I could talk about things that like I loved or
- 35:40Speaker 1: I was excited about, are passionate about to other girls.
- 35:43Speaker 11: And like if they you could immediately tell if they
- 35:47Speaker 11: were the same, if they had the same passions as
- 35:49Speaker 11: you did and cared about the same things, because like
- 35:51Speaker 11: that's what you talk about.
- 35:53Speaker 2: So can you give me one example of that. I'm
- 35:55Speaker 2: always thinking, like when I'm talking to our guests, thinking
- 36:00Speaker 2: about who's about the listeners, And so that's why I
- 36:03Speaker 2: like to try to excuse me for that, but like
- 36:05Speaker 2: kind of push to be specific, but like anything sort
- 36:09Speaker 2: of specifically.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Oh, specifically, like specifically the things that like I'm passionate
- 36:17Speaker 1: about that I would.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Talk about, Yeah, that you wanted to hear, like you
- 36:20Speaker 2: wanted to connect on Like, yeah, I.
- 36:23Speaker 11: Think that I would always ask people like and I
- 36:26Speaker 11: would get this question too, one of us would always
- 36:29Speaker 11: ask it first. I feel like like like talking about
- 36:32Speaker 11: where I grew up, in my family and my friends,
- 36:36Speaker 11: and like I remember someone asked me like how would
- 36:39Speaker 11: you describe your friends?
- 36:41Speaker 1: And then how would your friends describe you?
- 36:43Speaker 11: So like I was always I mean, like I said earlier,
- 36:45Speaker 11: like I was always really passionate about my friends.
- 36:47Speaker 1: That's like, those are like my people.
- 36:49Speaker 11: So when I had gotten there, like I was super
- 36:52Speaker 11: passionate about talking about them. But then also like I
- 36:55Speaker 11: feel like I talked about such random things, like like
- 36:58Speaker 11: I played lacrosse growing up, so like I talked about
- 37:00Speaker 11: that where and that was more of like an.
- 37:02Speaker 1: East Coast thing versus the West Coast thing. So like
- 37:05Speaker 1: talking to the West Coast girls about the sports they
- 37:07Speaker 1: like and getting to explain the sports that I would play,
- 37:09Speaker 1: and really.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Like just sort of getting actually like you know, getting
- 37:13Speaker 2: past the you know, hi, how are you?
- 37:17Speaker 9: Oh?
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it And I had great friends and
- 37:19Speaker 2: but sort of like it sounds like you were able
- 37:21Speaker 2: to dive a little deeper.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I Also I think that this is s different
- 37:27Speaker 1: for everyone.
- 37:27Speaker 11: But when I was in high school, I did like
- 37:31Speaker 11: over one hundred hours of community service, which I was
- 37:33Speaker 11: really really passionate about, like, and I specifically focused in
- 37:38Speaker 11: like one area of community service.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So I also.
- 37:42Speaker 11: Really liked talking about that, even though like it, even
- 37:47Speaker 11: though I didn't get as many hours of community service
- 37:49Speaker 11: in college, but that was like a big thing for
- 37:51Speaker 11: me because you can kind of tell on like obviously
- 37:53Speaker 11: everybody has a community service aspect or philanthropy connects to
- 37:57Speaker 11: their house, but like you could totally you can totally differentiate,
- 38:01Speaker 11: like which philanthropy means most.
- 38:04Speaker 1: To you and why right right.
- 38:07Speaker 11: I didn't ultimately make my decision based on that, but
- 38:10Speaker 11: it was definitely a factor and it was definitely like
- 38:12Speaker 11: you could you could really dive into that with people
- 38:15Speaker 11: if it does interest you.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like you have you had a really
- 38:20Speaker 2: good experience. Was there anything that you know wasn't great?
- 38:25Speaker 2: You know, everybody's nervous, right, and and I know that
- 38:29Speaker 2: I don't even you know more today after talking to
- 38:31Speaker 2: so many girls, but it's not usually a straight line.
- 38:34Speaker 2: There's there's anxiety and you know, yeah, there's that feeling
- 38:38Speaker 2: maybe a being judged. You know, some girls fly through it,
- 38:42Speaker 2: others not so much. Did you have any moments that
- 38:46Speaker 2: were more difficult?
- 38:48Speaker 1: Definitely, like waiting to hear back. I was like so anxious,
- 38:54Speaker 1: especially as the days progress because you obviously like cut
- 38:57Speaker 1: down on the amount of houses you have.
- 38:59Speaker 11: And yeah, it's an anxiety britten like ours was. I
- 39:03Speaker 11: don't know, maybe like five straight days. I think now
- 39:06Speaker 11: it can be longer, right, or like even split up.
- 39:10Speaker 11: So I think like doing your best distract yourself. And
- 39:14Speaker 11: then also like I had to, I kept reminding myself
- 39:17Speaker 11: the whole time, like even if my friends are in
- 39:20Speaker 11: a different house, literally has no effect in your social life.
- 39:25Speaker 11: And like the older you get, the lesson matters, like
- 39:28Speaker 11: I remember, like when I had first moved or after
- 39:31Speaker 11: I graduated, like I hang out with girls all the
- 39:33Speaker 11: time who weren't in my sorority and we would hang
- 39:36Speaker 11: out with them in college and things like that, Like
- 39:39Speaker 11: you can let it define yourself as much as you want.
- 39:41Speaker 1: So like with that that can kind of be helpful
- 39:45Speaker 1: to you, see anxiety, I guess.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, would you give any advice you would give
- 39:50Speaker 2: to girls that are you know, going to go through rush?
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say, I would say, like even more
- 39:58Speaker 1: so than staying true yourself elf, Like don't there's never
- 40:02Speaker 1: a house or someone who's rushing you that's like looking
- 40:06Speaker 1: for a specific answer. Like there's like going to X
- 40:11Speaker 1: house versus Sea house. Like they're not looking for one
- 40:14Speaker 1: answer and they're not looking for one answer.
- 40:16Speaker 4: So like.
- 40:18Speaker 11: If there's no there's nothing right. So you know, like
- 40:22Speaker 11: just put yourself on the line. It's super like intimidating
- 40:25Speaker 11: and stuff, but that's on the flip side of it.
- 40:28Speaker 11: At rush, like that's when we can feel we can
- 40:30Speaker 11: connect the most with the girls who we want to
- 40:32Speaker 11: be in our house.
- 40:33Speaker 1: So I would say, like throw it all on the line.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Who cares?
- 40:37Speaker 4: You know.
- 40:37Speaker 2: That's been that's sort of been a theme today talking
- 40:41Speaker 2: about how allowing yourself to be a little vulnerable during
- 40:45Speaker 2: this process, you know, not it's not therapy, you know,
- 40:50Speaker 2: not going in in with your deepest, darkest, but allowing
- 40:54Speaker 2: you know to talk maybe a little bit about well,
- 40:56Speaker 2: you know, I'm a little nervous about this, or you know,
- 40:59Speaker 2: I had a hard time with this, or I learned
- 41:01Speaker 2: a lot. I was used to be insecure. I don't know.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I mean, I'm just making this up, But do you
- 41:06Speaker 2: think that's that's helpful? Because I know there's a lot
- 41:08Speaker 2: of posing that goes on.
- 41:10Speaker 11: Yeah, no, I think that that is I think that
- 41:12Speaker 11: that is helpful. I also think like it's it's not
- 41:17Speaker 11: like vastly important, but it's also kind of good to
- 41:22Speaker 11: re read the person who you're talking to. Like if
- 41:26Speaker 11: you're talking to someone and it's not clicking, like use
- 41:29Speaker 11: it as practice, but like you don't have to force
- 41:32Speaker 11: the conversation. You know, your odds are you'll come back
- 41:35Speaker 11: to the house the next day and you'll talk to
- 41:36Speaker 11: someone else and it will click.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Like you just never know.
- 41:39Speaker 11: So I would say, like, also, don't beat yourself up
- 41:42Speaker 11: on like if you have a conversation that maybe didn't
- 41:45Speaker 11: leave you feeling like on the moon, it doesn't. Yeah,
- 41:49Speaker 11: everybody's different, even within the same house.
- 41:52Speaker 2: So yeah, I love that. That's great advice. So do
- 41:55Speaker 2: you feel like the process allowed you to get into
- 41:58Speaker 2: the house you were supposed to get into? Obviously you do,
- 42:00Speaker 2: but I do, Yeah.
- 42:02Speaker 4: I do.
- 42:02Speaker 11: I definitely do. I what I was looking for. I
- 42:06Speaker 11: definitely found like I found the right people. It was
- 42:12Speaker 11: it was perfect and I'm very lucky. But I also
- 42:13Speaker 11: understand that that's like not the case for every single person.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Sure, but yeah, I do feel like it. It served me, right.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Do you like being on the other side of it?
- 42:22Speaker 2: Do you like talking to the girls going through rush,
- 42:25Speaker 2: which is oh my god? Yeah, yeah, I loved.
- 42:30Speaker 1: I think I liked being on the other side of
- 42:31Speaker 1: it more because.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Like less pressure.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I don't even know if it's less pressure, but like
- 42:36Speaker 1: I remember, even like as seniors, when you're kind of
- 42:39Speaker 1: older and like you're like, these aren't going to be
- 42:42Speaker 1: your littles, like right there were like we all would
- 42:45Speaker 1: meet girls and like get so obsessed with them and
- 42:47Speaker 1: like fight over who gets to talk to them, and
- 42:50Speaker 1: like it's so nerve wracking for us because we're like
- 42:52Speaker 1: we want you to pick us. Yeah, but like I
- 42:55Speaker 1: really liked the other side of it too, because I
- 42:58Speaker 1: don't know, I'm an older sister, so like it is
- 43:00Speaker 1: also fun to kind of like.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you're big sistering them. Yeah, yeah, I love that. Okay,
- 43:06Speaker 2: my friend, thank you so much for all this. We appreciate.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and to our listeners, you have some good stuff here,
- 43:14Speaker 2: so you know, take notes. Thank you for coming on.
- 43:18Speaker 9: Thank you, Bye bye bye.
