- 0:23Speaker 2: Seventeen minutes out to Sex and I'm joined by Jamie
- 0:25Speaker 2: McKay hosted The Country and also available online The Country
- 0:28Speaker 2: dot co dot Nz. Jamie, Hello, good, good evening. Andrew
- 0:32Speaker 2: got snow in the back packet.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah. While I live on the hill on top of
- 0:37Speaker 3: the hill in Dunedin, We're fair to say it was
- 0:39Speaker 3: a bit of a mission to try and get down
- 0:41Speaker 3: to work. We work or our HQ is right down
- 0:44Speaker 3: by the Octagon and Dunedan for those people who know
- 0:47Speaker 3: their geography. So I got halfway down on the four
- 0:49Speaker 3: wheel drive, decided discretion was the better part of valor,
- 0:53Speaker 3: drove it back up the hill, put the gum boots
- 0:55Speaker 3: on and walk down. Good Man, I'm glad I'm looking
- 0:57Speaker 3: at some of the recks on the side of the
- 0:59Speaker 3: road here in Dunedin.
- 1:00Speaker 2: There was a very nice video of some guys snowboarding
- 1:02Speaker 2: straight down the street and they also caught a vehicle
- 1:06Speaker 2: also sliding straight down the street and going into a
- 1:09Speaker 2: pat car, so the snowboarder was the safer option there,
- 1:13Speaker 2: so stay warm. So there's been a boost for red
- 1:16Speaker 2: meat exports.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah, some outstanding numbers. The Meat Industry Association have come
- 1:21Speaker 3: out not only with their June monthly report, but full
- 1:24Speaker 3: twelve months to the year ended thirtieth of June twenty
- 1:27Speaker 3: twenty six, will start with just the month of June
- 1:30Speaker 3: for red meat andrew one point three seven billion dollars.
- 1:34Speaker 3: That's fifty percent higher than June last year. That's a
- 1:38Speaker 3: magnificent effort. When we look at the full year, we're
- 1:43Speaker 3: looking at sheep meat exports increasing only one percent by volume,
- 1:47Speaker 3: but rising twenty six percent by value to five point
- 1:52Speaker 3: two billion. Five point two billion. For sheep meat beef
- 1:55Speaker 3: relatively unchanged, are no change in volume there, but increased
- 2:00Speaker 3: by in value by twenty one percent to five point
- 2:03Speaker 3: eight billion. By the time you add in the fifth
- 2:06Speaker 3: quarter exports, that's all the other byproducts and bits of
- 2:09Speaker 3: the carcass, you had the red meat industry worth thirteen
- 2:13Speaker 3: point two billion, twenty one percent higher than twenty four
- 2:17Speaker 3: twenty five. The United States is now our biggest market,
- 2:21Speaker 3: it's up twenty one percent. China is our second biggest
- 2:25Speaker 3: it's only up seven percent. But where we're really starting
- 2:28Speaker 3: to cook with gas Andrew is in Europe, the EU
- 2:31Speaker 3: and the UK with our FTAs EU up twenty five percent,
- 2:35Speaker 3: the UK up are whopping fifty one percent. So red meat,
- 2:38Speaker 3: as you'll know when you go to the supermarket, is
- 2:41Speaker 3: on a real.
- 2:41Speaker 2: High at the moment, absolutely, and thank goodness for that
- 2:44Speaker 2: as well. Now, one of the stories I've loved about
- 2:47Speaker 2: is the new lease holder for the Molesworth station, that
- 2:50Speaker 2: mighty great station there in the middle of the south
- 2:53Speaker 2: and half a million hectares is it not? And now
- 2:56Speaker 2: NATA who are going to get to run it? So
- 2:58Speaker 2: what do you know about that deal?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah, close to half a million acres I think Andrew
- 3:03Speaker 3: one hundred and eighty two thousand hectares. Yeah. Look, five
- 3:06Speaker 3: parties applied to get the lease. Only two of them
- 3:10Speaker 3: were public Knightar who have a very good farming record,
- 3:13Speaker 3: to be fair, and they've got a very strong balance
- 3:16Speaker 3: sheet and I'm sure that played into the hands of
- 3:20Speaker 3: Doc when they made this decision. But the other one
- 3:24Speaker 3: was interesting was the former manager Jim Ward. Now he
- 3:27Speaker 3: ran Molesworth for twenty four twenty five years. Great bloke.
- 3:32Speaker 3: He got together a group of strong business people and
- 3:37Speaker 3: he wanted to set up Molesworth as a station for
- 3:41Speaker 3: the nation, a charitable trust operation. Unfortunately got pipped at
- 3:45Speaker 3: the post or he was beaten by Knightahoo. Now what
- 3:50Speaker 3: he's saying, as a bloke who's poured his heart and
- 3:52Speaker 3: soul into this property, is that he hopes and he
- 3:55Speaker 3: expects that knighta who will continue on the good work
- 3:59Speaker 3: when it comes to controlling broom and especially wilding pines
- 4:02Speaker 3: a huge issue on Molesworth there, and he also put
- 4:07Speaker 3: a hell of a lot of work and trying to
- 4:09Speaker 3: make Molesworth TB free. In fact, it got its first
- 4:13Speaker 3: TB free accreditation just before he left. So he along
- 4:17Speaker 3: with Federated Farmers High Country coach here Matt Simpson. These
- 4:21Speaker 3: two guys are good mates. By the way, are really
- 4:24Speaker 3: putting the acid on Nightaho to say you need to
- 4:26Speaker 3: keep up the good work and even do better. The
- 4:29Speaker 3: good news is Andrew that nightA who has already indicated
- 4:32Speaker 3: when it comes to public access and all the things
- 4:35Speaker 3: we've enjoyed about Molesworth, they will be continuing, continuing on
- 4:39Speaker 3: with that and hopefully it can be a station for
- 4:42Speaker 3: the nation.
- 4:43Speaker 2: And you know they love the lamb, they love the
- 4:46Speaker 2: finer work, and you know they've also got financial backing,
- 4:48Speaker 2: so they've got the wherewithal to make sure they do
- 4:50Speaker 2: a great job. And we'll all be watching in Jamie,
- 4:52Speaker 2: very much, very good to have you on. Stay warm over.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Are you a hot water bottle man or an electric
- 4:56Speaker 2: blanket man or a week back or nothing?
- 5:01Speaker 3: Because yes, no, no I'm too soft. No. When I
- 5:03Speaker 3: was a young bloke and a farmer, I was stuff.
- 5:05Speaker 3: But no no I'm as soft as but of these
- 5:07Speaker 3: day days Andrew electric blanket mane.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Okay, very good stuff and I thank you so much
- 5:11Speaker 2: for Jamie McKay.
