- 0:48Speaker 2: She's a longtime friend of the show at Peloton, instructor,
- 0:52Speaker 2: a Hoca Global brand and faster, a mega inspiring athlete
- 0:58Speaker 2: both on and off the run, and a longtime friend
- 1:02Speaker 2: of mine. And we had this combo in front of
- 1:04Speaker 2: a live audience at Rivian here in New York City.
- 1:08Speaker 3: They asked if.
- 1:09Speaker 2: We wanted to post up as a part of their
- 1:12Speaker 2: Performance House, a special week of programming that the team
- 1:15Speaker 2: was putting together, and absolute no brainer. What a fun
- 1:19Speaker 2: opportunity to meet some of you, hang out with my
- 1:23Speaker 2: dear buddy, and of course have a really special conversation.
- 1:28Speaker 2: So of course we dive right in me asking Bex
- 1:31Speaker 2: how she's doing. Really, she gets really candidate about feeling
- 1:35Speaker 2: so many things, overwhelmed and sore and tired as she's
- 1:38Speaker 2: currently preparing for what she refers to are two of
- 1:42Speaker 2: the biggest races of her life, races that will take
- 1:45Speaker 2: her to extreme altitudes in extreme heat. We talk about
- 1:51Speaker 2: her evolution as a runner, how she went from running
- 1:53Speaker 2: to escape a toxic relationship to finding adventure on the trails,
- 1:57Speaker 2: and why Becks is returning to those trails now to
- 2:00Speaker 2: find peace and reclaim sometime for herself. She also shares
- 2:05Speaker 2: about how turning a forty has changed her relationship with
- 2:07Speaker 2: her body, making her feel more vulnerable to fatigue and stress,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and what diligence looks like when you're juggling being a mom,
- 2:15Speaker 2: being a partner, being a professional, and why sometimes showing
- 2:19Speaker 2: up for yourself means giving yourself the grace to rest
- 2:23Speaker 2: and adjust your expectations. Plus, she shares a wild story
- 2:29Speaker 2: about a recent trail run on the Appalachian Trail that
- 2:32Speaker 2: included close encounters with the following a bear, a snake,
- 2:37Speaker 2: a dog, a turtle, and a squashed porcupine. So many
- 2:41Speaker 2: things anyway, I digress again. Thanks to the team at
- 2:45Speaker 2: Rivian for having us and as always make sure you're
- 2:48Speaker 2: following along with Hurdle over on social It's at Hurdle podcast.

- 3:03Speaker 2: you get your podcasts.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And with that, let's get to it. Let's get it's
- 3:08Speaker 3: a hurdling.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Sitting down here tonight for a live taping of Hurdle.
- 3:17Speaker 2: My name is Emily A Body and alongside me I
- 3:21Speaker 2: have the ever lovely Beck Gentry.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Hi everyone, thank you for coming out in this wild weather.
- 3:26Speaker 2: That work experiencing some wild weather, and we just need
- 3:31Speaker 2: to acknowledge the elephant in the room.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I'm so sorry for your loss.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's okay, it's okay, it's okay. I'll do what it's tomorrow.
- 3:40Speaker 2: We had a hard moment for England for those of
- 3:43Speaker 2: you following the World Cups.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, we won. For a while, in my mind that
- 3:49Speaker 1: was about fifteen minutes where I was like, I cannot
- 3:51Speaker 1: believe this is happening. We're going to be Argentina and
- 3:54Speaker 1: we're going to be in the World Cup. Final, and
- 3:57Speaker 1: then they scored two moguls.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Oh man, well, I am happy that you made it here,
- 4:02Speaker 2: nonetheless and always so happy to sit down and chat
- 4:07Speaker 2: with you. You know how I always start the show
- 4:09Speaker 2: give me the rundown backs.
- 4:11Speaker 3: How are you doing? Really?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Really?
- 4:15Speaker 1: Yeah, really really overwhelmed, incredibly tired, soul and really excite
- 4:23Speaker 1: to slash nervous.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Okay, let's unpack that a little bit. It's not all
- 4:27Speaker 2: about tonight tired and sore. What has the training been
- 4:31Speaker 2: like lately for you?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Insane? Yeah, insane. For those of you who may know
- 4:39Speaker 1: a light part about my background and running, I'm traditionally
- 4:43Speaker 1: known as a road racer over the marathon distance, having
- 4:48Speaker 1: completed in the UK TEAMGB Olympic trials in twenty twenty one.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And it's you know, I love to run fast. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: that's me. I do like to run fast on the
- 5:00Speaker 1: flat road. How I started running was trail. It was
- 5:05Speaker 1: out there. It was adventuring with a group of girlfriends
- 5:08Speaker 1: many many years ago, and I've come back to that
- 5:11Speaker 1: as I don't know, a mind reset, a life reset,
- 5:15Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it. And I'm on the
- 5:17Speaker 1: precipice of two of the biggest races I've probably ever
- 5:21Speaker 1: done in my life, one being next weekend and the
- 5:23Speaker 1: other one being five or so weekends after that. And
- 5:28Speaker 1: my body hates me.
- 5:31Speaker 3: My body hates me. Interpretive, it also loves you.
- 5:34Speaker 2: It does because you are putting yourself through a little
- 5:39Speaker 2: bit of uncharted territory, right and although there are some
- 5:43Speaker 2: soreness involved, the hurdles you were clearing no pun intended,
- 5:47Speaker 2: necessarily mentally are really special and an experience that's really
- 5:53Speaker 2: giving back to you from what you've told me.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely. You know we're here at Rivian HQ and
- 5:58Speaker 1: New York and we are a block away from the
- 6:02Speaker 1: water here, the Hudson River, So that gives you an
- 6:04Speaker 1: insight into my training. I'm a sea level athlete. I'm
- 6:07Speaker 1: about to embark on a race that is eleven eight
- 6:11Speaker 1: hundred meters up and twelve thousand down. Sorry feet, don't
- 6:15Speaker 1: freak out. I just said, you're like, where are you going?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Eleven eight feet up and twelve thousand down? So I'm
- 6:24Speaker 1: not just battling the climb and the decent, I'm battling altitude.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It's going to be ninety four degrees on the day,
- 6:32Speaker 1: so I think the only thing I've got on my
- 6:35Speaker 1: side is the oven that New York's been for the
- 6:37Speaker 1: past month. That I'm like kind of used to running
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the heat. So that's been a big hurdle of
- 6:45Speaker 1: just trying to figure out how on earth a sea
- 6:47Speaker 1: level athlete who is a full time career professional, a mom,
- 6:52Speaker 1: a partner, a human as well, I have real things
- 6:55Speaker 1: that I like to do aside from running. How I
- 6:58Speaker 1: do all those things and train for this this turn
- 7:01Speaker 1: high long race.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Where do you find your inspiration from? And I asked
- 7:08Speaker 2: that in the context of you could choose to do
- 7:11Speaker 2: anything right, you said, C level athlete, someone that likes
- 7:15Speaker 2: to run on the roads and in the past has
- 7:17Speaker 2: liked to run quite fast, so fast that you ran
- 7:21Speaker 2: in the Olympic trials. Right, So what has inspired this
- 7:25Speaker 2: chapter for you? What has inspired you to go back
- 7:28Speaker 2: to the trails?
- 7:30Speaker 1: I think when I started running, it was a release.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It was way back when I was still working in
- 7:36Speaker 1: PR and marketing. I was in a very toxic personal
- 7:38Speaker 1: relationship and I ran to escape my life, I guess,
- 7:42Speaker 1: and I think a lot of us can relate to that.
- 7:43Speaker 1: A lot of us probably started into fitness to remove
- 7:47Speaker 1: ourselves from something that wasn't great for us, and to
- 7:49Speaker 1: give us solace, to give us freedom, and to give
- 7:52Speaker 1: us health benefits, and that progressed me into trail running.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Back in that time, I was twenty five, give or
- 8:02Speaker 1: take twenty four twenty five, and I had a fantastic
- 8:05Speaker 1: group of girlfriends and we love to travel the world,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and we would we travel the world. We do ultra
- 8:10Speaker 1: races around the world, and it was our way of
- 8:12Speaker 1: exploring together. We'd bunk up in rooms, so it was cheap.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I lived in the UK, so it was really cheap
- 8:17Speaker 1: to get to Europe, unlike here, and so that was
- 8:22Speaker 1: such a like. It was fun, it was adventure, and
- 8:25Speaker 1: I think at this point in my life there's a
- 8:27Speaker 1: lot of seriousness. I have a very serious career. Although
- 8:30Speaker 1: it may look very fun and unicorns and rainbows on
- 8:33Speaker 1: the screen, it's still a very serious career. I have
- 8:35Speaker 1: to show up. I have to have a healthy, able
- 8:37Speaker 1: body five days a week at least to perform on camera.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I have to be happy and positive even when excuse
- 8:44Speaker 1: my friends shit's going down at home or wherever. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: have to be supportive to the people on outside the camera,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and being a mom. I'm a parent and of course
- 8:55Speaker 1: just the most wonderful thing in the world is also
- 8:57Speaker 1: the toughest thing I've ever done, day in, day out.
- 8:59Speaker 1: There escape, no escape. She's fine, She's not going back.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I cannot trade her in for the new model. And
- 9:08Speaker 1: so it says a lot of pressure. And I think
- 9:12Speaker 1: road racing is fantastic, but I had my era there
- 9:14Speaker 1: and I'm not saying I'll never go back to that,
- 9:16Speaker 1: but trail running just gave me this, Like I'm literally
- 9:20Speaker 1: by myself. I'm road racing. You're always with people, which
- 9:23Speaker 1: is great, and that's why a lot of us do it.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Because you've got the support of the twenty six point two.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You've got people in every corner of New York cheering
- 9:28Speaker 1: you along. I can get into the trails and I
- 9:32Speaker 1: can hallucinate and.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Look at a tree and be like, you look great
- 9:36Speaker 3: right now.
- 9:36Speaker 1: No one can see me, and in that moment and
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'm just by myself, and it's very freeing, and it
- 9:42Speaker 1: gives me the peace I need at this time in
- 9:45Speaker 1: my life.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Yeah, what I'm hearing you articulate so well is that
- 9:50Speaker 2: you are a chronic energy dealer. You are someone that
- 9:55Speaker 2: is constantly in service of others. Whether it is the
- 9:59Speaker 2: Peloton community and those members, whether it is your family.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And this is a choice, and that doesn't mean that
- 10:07Speaker 2: it doesn't get heavy at times. So for you to
- 10:10Speaker 2: now take take on this new adventure, take to the trails,
- 10:14Speaker 2: try something new, challenge yourself. I think it's really exciting
- 10:18Speaker 2: and it's really invigorating, and it's it's inspiring to watch
- 10:20Speaker 2: because it's you reclaiming something for yourself.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Absolutely, And it's so important for all of us to
- 10:28Speaker 2: kind of do that right, to do a little bit
- 10:31Speaker 2: of inventory, to ask what is it that I need
- 10:34Speaker 2: right now and how can I best support myself.
- 10:37Speaker 3: We hear it all the time.
- 10:38Speaker 2: You got to put your own oxygen mask on so
- 10:40Speaker 2: that you cannot only show up for yourself, but then
- 10:42Speaker 2: of course you can also show up for others when
- 10:45Speaker 2: it comes to putting the oxygen mask on. Now, for you,
- 10:49Speaker 2: I know, after your exciting birthday in March that we celebrated,
- 10:56Speaker 2: do you want to tell them what we celebrated?
- 10:57Speaker 1: The Big Four?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Oh, the Big Four to zholl.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, taking stock and being honest with yourself looks a
- 11:03Speaker 2: little different these days, it.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Does, it really does. It's kind of like when you
- 11:07Speaker 1: hit thirty. That hangover you have on your thirtieth birthday
- 11:10Speaker 1: if you drink is like, god, damn, it happens.
- 11:15Speaker 3: It's different.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It's different, and forty was very different for me. It
- 11:22Speaker 1: was a different celebration of my parent as I said,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and like it's just it wasn't swept under the rug.
- 11:28Speaker 1: We had a great day or we celebrated, we did stuff.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I went away with my family. But as a female,
- 11:36Speaker 1: your body changes, and it's not like overnight. It's not
- 11:39Speaker 1: in that moment. It's not like if you follow me,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you know, I hate the whole New Year, New you situation.
- 11:45Speaker 1: It's just like it's just a bloody night. Like it's
- 11:47Speaker 1: literally you're just going to sleep from one night to
- 11:49Speaker 1: the next. You can do that any day of the
- 11:51Speaker 1: year if you want to rechange anything. But I have
- 11:56Speaker 1: felt that this year twenty twenty six, my forty year fear,
- 12:01Speaker 1: my body has just become a little bit more vulnerable.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Whether it's too external stress, whether it's too fatigue, whether
- 12:09Speaker 1: it's too annoyance. Myhues is shorter. You know, it's all
- 12:14Speaker 1: the small things, and it's the stuff you read about perimenopause,
- 12:17Speaker 1: you understand, like my partner's snoring at night. I used
- 12:22Speaker 1: to be like, that's kind of cute, and now I
- 12:23Speaker 1: want to punch him in the face every night. And
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's just the like the night sweats where you think
- 12:29Speaker 1: it's just because the ac is not kicked in, and
- 12:31Speaker 1: you're like, oh god, the house is at sixty eight degrees.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Why am I so hotwhere I sleep? Because I've got
- 12:36Speaker 1: a twenty mile trail run tomorrow. And it's just those
- 12:40Speaker 1: things where you're adding that into it. Having an almost
- 12:43Speaker 1: four year old who doesn't give the monkeys about what
- 12:45Speaker 1: I do when I'm not with her. She doesn't care
- 12:47Speaker 1: if I've run twenty miles, fifty miles, one hundred miles.
- 12:51Speaker 1: She's just like your mom. You are here to play
- 12:54Speaker 1: with me, make me happy and be happy with me,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and cook my food and put me to bed, and
- 13:00Speaker 1: you do it, and even if you're sore as anything,
- 13:04Speaker 1: you do it. And it is just a lot that
- 13:07Speaker 1: is exhausting. And it has been such a awakening of
- 13:11Speaker 1: understanding my body and how my body performs in a
- 13:16Speaker 1: very different way.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So many people come to you and they want to
- 13:22Speaker 2: know about diligence. They want to know how you do it,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and as you explain this transition, we hear a lot
- 13:30Speaker 2: about the structure and the diligence within your routine this morning.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I admittedly also may have had an extra martini last night,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and I had no problem still getting out the door
- 13:45Speaker 2: and going to the gym. And that is because I
- 13:47Speaker 2: have now decided in my life that I am a
- 13:50Speaker 2: person that goes to the gym in the morning. That
- 13:53Speaker 2: is something that I do. It is how I identify.
- 13:56Speaker 2: It may look a little different on a daylight today,
- 13:58Speaker 2: but it's still going to happen. When someone comes to
- 14:03Speaker 2: you and they ask you, where do you find the structure?
- 14:06Speaker 2: How do you show up when you don't feel like it?
- 14:08Speaker 2: What do you say to them?
- 14:10Speaker 1: Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I don't show up, and I
- 14:14Speaker 1: get annoyed with myself and I get frustrated, and I've
- 14:18Speaker 1: learnt to understand that that's okay. Uh, we're human. I
- 14:22Speaker 1: think that we are in this kind of weird point
- 14:26Speaker 1: in the world where we're almost robotic, and it's scary
- 14:30Speaker 1: that we feel like we have to get up, go
- 14:33Speaker 1: to work, or get up, go to the gym, go
- 14:34Speaker 1: to work, achieve a cheap a cheap, a cheap, achieve
- 14:36Speaker 1: all day and achieving is ticking these things off. But
- 14:41Speaker 1: what are you like We've talked about this before, and
- 14:44Speaker 1: I know Sahil Bloom if you've ever read his books,
- 14:46Speaker 1: he's really into like ABC results of like this is
- 14:50Speaker 1: your a, this is what's gonna happen. I'm gonna wake up,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna get an hour's work out in in the gym,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I'm going to go to work, and I'm gonna blah
- 14:56Speaker 1: blah blah blah. But then you have the B option
- 14:57Speaker 1: and the C option and then the other. And I've
- 15:00Speaker 1: really taken that on board of like this is what
- 15:03Speaker 1: I'd love to do today. But Tallula wakes up at
- 15:07Speaker 1: four am in the morning, she's unwell. I'm not just
- 15:09Speaker 1: going to be like cool, babe, look after yourself. Mom's
- 15:12Speaker 1: going to go for a run. Like I'm mom. I
- 15:14Speaker 1: have to be there. I have to snuggle with her,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I have to make sure she's okay, cook her breakfast, cuddle,
- 15:20Speaker 1: and my workout's out the window. I have to go
- 15:22Speaker 1: to work then. So it's really like having the understanding
- 15:26Speaker 1: that diligence isn't always about showing up on that a level.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Diligence is about showing up for you all of the
- 15:34Speaker 1: hats and the roles that you have to play in
- 15:37Speaker 1: your life and being okay with that, because definitely, when
- 15:42Speaker 1: I didn't have a kid, I had much more a
- 15:44Speaker 1: goals that were more like, quote unquote selfish, And I
- 15:47Speaker 1: don't mean selfish in a negative way. I love being selfish.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It fulfills me so especially now as a parent. But
- 15:54Speaker 1: now it's like diligence is juggling my hats, making sure
- 15:58Speaker 1: that I am ticking all the boxes, and movement may
- 16:02Speaker 1: end up being once Ta Lula's in bed, I'll take
- 16:06Speaker 1: my dog for a walk for half an hour. I'm
- 16:08Speaker 1: still moving my body. That's still great. It's still better
- 16:11Speaker 1: than nothing. It's so better than sitting on the couch
- 16:13Speaker 1: and just sitting there with a top of ice cream
- 16:15Speaker 1: and watching Netflix.
- 16:16Speaker 3: And sometimes you need the tough ice cream.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Imagine the Netflix. It's so true. I want to double
- 16:23Speaker 2: click on you. You said the word grace, and that's
- 16:26Speaker 2: just so important, and it goes back to what you
- 16:29Speaker 2: were speaking on on this new era of being in
- 16:33Speaker 2: your forties and embracing that sometimes rest is the way
- 16:38Speaker 2: and getting to a place where you are okay with grace.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Has been something that's been challenging for you. I have
- 16:47Speaker 2: watched as your friend as you've gotten to this point
- 16:50Speaker 2: where you own I can't do it today, and genuinely
- 16:56Speaker 2: have now become okay with that.
- 17:00Speaker 3: It's a struggle. Talk to me a little bit about
- 17:02Speaker 3: the struggle of that.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I think it's it's external. I think I've always been
- 17:09Speaker 1: a semi lazy person in my mind, which I love.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I love that lazy girl in me who is like,
- 17:14Speaker 1: it's okay, let's just chill, let's just not that's fine,
- 17:19Speaker 1: But my job requires me to show up again. If
- 17:24Speaker 1: you've ever followed me or taken a lot of my classes.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I love social media, but I hate it. It's a
- 17:29Speaker 1: curated box of good stuff that we put out there,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and a lot of how we're viewed is based on
- 17:35Speaker 1: those squares, and it's not the truth. There's a lot
- 17:38Speaker 1: of other things we're we're not. We're not that the screen,
- 17:42Speaker 1: We're not those like nine squats, sorry, Jacob. We're not
- 17:45Speaker 1: the nine squares that people can see. We're so much
- 17:48Speaker 1: more than that. And I think I've really had to
- 17:52Speaker 1: like juggle that world to give myself grace to just
- 17:58Speaker 1: sometimes be like this isn't going my way today, or
- 18:02Speaker 1: this isn't or it is going you know what I mean.
- 18:05Speaker 1: It's just like it's like having a new vision of yourself.
- 18:10Speaker 1: You know. I think we all see ourselves in this
- 18:13Speaker 1: weird that always always quote this episode of Friends where
- 18:17Speaker 1: Rachel is like telling Ross that she loves him and
- 18:20Speaker 1: then she burst up laughing and she's like, I just
- 18:22Speaker 1: floated up out of myself. And I watch myself say that,
- 18:24Speaker 1: and it's ridiculous. And I always have this vision of
- 18:27Speaker 1: myself of like seeing myself not doing my workout, not
- 18:32Speaker 1: doing my run, not taking Ta Lula to school, and
- 18:35Speaker 1: like it's like I have this other lens and I
- 18:38Speaker 1: have to understand what those things are and how they
- 18:41Speaker 1: mean to me. And that's weirdly and then this sounds
- 18:44Speaker 1: like a ramble. It gives me grace of like, Okay,
- 18:47Speaker 1: that doesn't actually mean that much to me. If I
- 18:48Speaker 1: don't do that work out today, Yeah, no, I'm good
- 18:51Speaker 1: with that. I will take Tea to school or my
- 18:53Speaker 1: ten mile run or turn into a two mile run,
- 18:55Speaker 1: and that's okay.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Sometimes when you're juggling, you're gonna be juggling that are
- 19:00Speaker 2: glass and balls that are rubber, and you need to
- 19:03Speaker 2: allow yourself to know which ones are glass, which ones
- 19:07Speaker 2: are rubber.
- 19:08Speaker 3: And maybe sometimes that's.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Why I have that tattoo.
- 19:11Speaker 2: They're gonna she has a a what would you call that,
- 19:14Speaker 2: a ballerina? A ballerina, she's a dancer and she's spinning plates, yep.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And sometimes you need to know that they're gonna fall
- 19:21Speaker 2: on the ground. And so you have to choose which
- 19:24Speaker 2: day what's going to be rubbers and what's going to
- 19:27Speaker 2: be glass.
- 19:27Speaker 3: And it's not easy.
- 19:28Speaker 1: It's not easy. But when you have the understanding and
- 19:31Speaker 1: you give yourself the grace to understand that it changes
- 19:33Speaker 1: day in day out, it gets easier.
- 19:52Speaker 2: You reference, you know, those nine squares that someone might
- 19:55Speaker 2: see when they come and look at your social media page.
- 19:59Speaker 2: If you to back, think about the top three the
- 20:03Speaker 2: things that right now you're really focused on the things
- 20:06Speaker 2: that are in your personal highlight reel.
- 20:09Speaker 3: What are you thinking of.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Thinking of my daughter, of just outdoors, of being outdoors,
- 20:16Speaker 1: of just showing her the world. We're so lucky to
- 20:20Speaker 1: live in this incredible city, but it's scary and it's
- 20:25Speaker 1: covered in a weird way. It's crazy, how scared I
- 20:29Speaker 1: am of her? Leaving my house here in Brooklyn, and
- 20:31Speaker 1: then when we go out of the city, our front
- 20:34Speaker 1: doors not even locked, and she's just able to go out.
- 20:38Speaker 1: We live on a really quiet, private area and she's
- 20:41Speaker 1: almost four and she can just run over the road
- 20:43Speaker 1: and see her friends. And it's so it's how I
- 20:47Speaker 1: envisioned my life at forty, instead of being petrified of
- 20:51Speaker 1: my daughter going down my stoop and falling down the
- 20:53Speaker 1: stoop because the railings are too wide, and like, I
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't know if someone's dog coming and getting her because
- 20:59Speaker 1: she's with our dog, and there's so many fear factors.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So I think, yeah, there's a lot about like that
- 21:05Speaker 1: outdoor happy life that is my new life out of
- 21:08Speaker 1: the city. I think realness. I don't know what there
- 21:13Speaker 1: actually is of just understanding. I'm not a running I
- 21:19Speaker 1: am a running influencer, which I really hate admitting, but
- 21:21Speaker 1: I guess I am a running influencer. But I'm not
- 21:23Speaker 1: a running influencer who has got their like lipliner on
- 21:27Speaker 1: and their hair perfectly slipped back and I lashes on.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I'm the running influencer who is like drenched in sweat
- 21:32Speaker 1: and has what I call my tiger stripes because I've
- 21:35Speaker 1: worked and I'm like red and white blotchy, and that
- 21:38Speaker 1: might be because it's a hot day or because I've
- 21:40Speaker 1: worked hard, so that I guess that's up there of
- 21:44Speaker 1: like real and yeah, I don't know, just the world
- 21:50Speaker 1: a happy version of the world, because the world is
- 21:53Speaker 1: tough right now. But there is a chance, there is
- 21:56Speaker 1: a chance for us all to see it as a
- 21:58Speaker 1: happy place. We just have to like c direct our algorithms.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Consciously choose what's in those top three those top three
- 22:05Speaker 2: squares of the top of the profile. I appreciate what
- 22:09Speaker 2: you said about who it is that you are, and
- 22:13Speaker 2: I hear so often this desire from you to be
- 22:18Speaker 2: a person maybe of influence, but not necessarily an influencer,
- 22:22Speaker 2: and in that showing the realness.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I say it all the time.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Vulnerability is relatable, the tiger stripes are relatable.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Perfection is anything but.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And to be in the position that you're in and
- 22:36Speaker 2: so open with the community that you touch, it's truly
- 22:40Speaker 2: a privilege to be your real.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Self and show up in that way.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I also really appreciate you sharing your feelings about reclaiming
- 22:50Speaker 2: some of that space upstate. What has that space given
- 22:55Speaker 2: you emotionally, mentally, You've been spending a lot of time
- 22:59Speaker 2: up there, so tell me about what it's done for you.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I think appreciating the small things again, like this city
- 23:07Speaker 1: is so awesome and so cool, but you have everything
- 23:09Speaker 1: on your doorstep, like at your fingertips. If you've forgotten
- 23:12Speaker 1: something and you've done your groceries, you can postmates it
- 23:15Speaker 1: and it's going to be here in twenty minutes. Or
- 23:18Speaker 1: you decide to have some friends over and you can
- 23:20Speaker 1: order a bag of chips and drinks or whatever you
- 23:23Speaker 1: want in twenty minutes. And I feel like from my
- 23:27Speaker 1: personality it's made me a little bit like days ago
- 23:32Speaker 1: and moving upstate. Our nearest supermarket is twenty minute drive away,
- 23:37Speaker 1: and so you have to be organized, and it's been
- 23:40Speaker 1: really wonderful to kind of become this organized person again
- 23:44Speaker 1: of planning out. Okay, so we're going to eat this
- 23:47Speaker 1: on Friday, this on Saturday, We're doing this on Sunday.
- 23:52Speaker 1: So yeah, there's that side of it. It's also a
- 23:56Speaker 1: very big disconnect from the fast pace of the city.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I struggle with that. I come from the countryside in England.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I lived in London before I came here, so I
- 24:04Speaker 1: definitely didn't come straight from like nothing to hear. But
- 24:08Speaker 1: I find New York very anxiety and juicing at times
- 24:11Speaker 1: when I'm already overwhelmed by life, I find this city
- 24:14Speaker 1: just a lot. So it's allowed me that space to
- 24:17Speaker 1: just be sit with it being a lot, but deal
- 24:20Speaker 1: with it quicker and get through it quicker. And it's
- 24:24Speaker 1: going to sound so privileged, but like, instead of going
- 24:26Speaker 1: for my morning run, can I go for a paddle
- 24:29Speaker 1: board in the morning and it's my time. I can
- 24:32Speaker 1: just get out. I live right by a lake and
- 24:33Speaker 1: it's like glass and it's my time. Just like sometimes
- 24:37Speaker 1: Tulula comes with me and she lays on the front
- 24:39Speaker 1: of the paddle board and it's great. Other times it's
- 24:41Speaker 1: just me and I have my route like I run
- 24:45Speaker 1: where I go around a little island and I paddle
- 24:47Speaker 1: board back and it's very peacemaking for my day. So
- 24:51Speaker 1: it's been lovely to start new routines and just kind
- 24:55Speaker 1: of slow down a little bit. And then I come
- 24:58Speaker 1: back to the city and work and have that like
- 25:01Speaker 1: the hit of the city.
- 25:04Speaker 2: There's a lot going on sid again, Yeah, perspective is
- 25:08Speaker 2: a privilege. Yeah, and you have worked very hard to
- 25:15Speaker 2: get to a place where you've afforded yourself the opportunity
- 25:21Speaker 2: to wake up and go for a paddle board, right,
- 25:24Speaker 2: to wake up and claim that space for yourself. So
- 25:27Speaker 2: while I can understand why you may disclaim it at
- 25:31Speaker 2: the end of the day, that's something to step into.
- 25:34Speaker 2: That's something that you have done, and I think it's
- 25:38Speaker 2: something that's quite admirable. You also, as you articulated so well,
- 25:44Speaker 2: have created this really beautiful mental space for yourself. But
- 25:49Speaker 2: we know when we make the space, things start to
- 25:53Speaker 2: occupy the space. This also takes us to the fact
- 25:56Speaker 2: that you are on the trails for longer, you're running
- 25:59Speaker 2: for longer.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I want to get inside your head.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I want to hear a little bit about what you're
- 26:05Speaker 2: really processing thinking about when you're out there for miles
- 26:09Speaker 2: on miles. I know you have a lot of long
- 26:11Speaker 2: races coming up, so talk to me a little bit
- 26:13Speaker 2: about your evolution with self talk when it comes to
- 26:17Speaker 2: the run.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Oh, I think, honestly, it's easy to occupy yourself on
- 26:21Speaker 1: a trail one because you are paying much more attention
- 26:24Speaker 1: to your footing, to your environment. Flat road surfaces you
- 26:27Speaker 1: kind of do just go into overdrive and there can
- 26:29Speaker 1: be these sort of duck conversations, like conversations, music podcast,
- 26:34Speaker 1: whatever you're listening to. But on the trail, I'm finding
- 26:37Speaker 1: myself just I'm kind of like wrong foot, Like I'm
- 26:42Speaker 1: kind of just talking to myself about my running form,
- 26:44Speaker 1: which is weird, like sending coaching myself while I run.
- 26:49Speaker 1: It's also kind of scary. I don't know if anyone's
- 26:51Speaker 1: ever been running an upstate New York. I live right
- 26:55Speaker 1: on the Appalachian Trail. I had a close encounter with
- 26:58Speaker 1: a bear a few weeks ago, and I haven't run
- 27:00Speaker 1: on it since because I literally was like I'm gonna die.
- 27:04Speaker 1: It's just now, I'm not down for this. On that run,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I saw a porcupine get squashed, I got chased by
- 27:09Speaker 1: a dog, there was a snapping turtle, a snake, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: then a bear was the final thing, all on like
- 27:15Speaker 1: an hour's run. So I got home and asked him,
- 27:17Speaker 1: was like, you okay? And I was the color of
- 27:19Speaker 1: these chairs and I'm like, no, they're gray for the words,
- 27:22Speaker 1: yeah for everyone who's watching yet, pallid gray and not
- 27:26Speaker 1: the color you should be after a run. And yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: I was like, babe, you're not going to believe what
- 27:34Speaker 1: I have just encountered on this run, and that was
- 27:37Speaker 1: the last run I did on the Appalachian Trail. So
- 27:42Speaker 1: for me, I've been driving and I sailed that to
- 27:45Speaker 1: say this. I've been driving to Beacon, which is our
- 27:49Speaker 1: and a half two hours out of the city in Hudson,
- 27:52Speaker 1: New York, which is a beautiful location, has some great elevation,
- 27:56Speaker 1: has way less life threatening things. They have a few ticks,
- 28:00Speaker 1: not many reports of ticks, which alike in my neighborhood.
- 28:03Speaker 3: They're like that are gonna go with you now.
- 28:06Speaker 1: And they have no bears. They may have a deer,
- 28:10Speaker 1: but they've actually been cute, and that for me has
- 28:14Speaker 1: been a better conversation. And I think the courses or
- 28:16Speaker 1: levels have been lower because I'm not so afraid that
- 28:19Speaker 1: something's going to come out of the woods and get me.
- 28:24Speaker 3: But I think.
- 28:27Speaker 1: The trail running side of things is like the first
- 28:30Speaker 1: few miles when you go straight uphill, it hurts immediately,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and from coming from a road running perspective, it takes
- 28:40Speaker 1: a good like fifteen miles really for it to start hurting.
- 28:44Speaker 2: If you've trained well for a race, there's some people nodding,
- 28:47Speaker 2: and then there's some other people being like, for who
- 28:51Speaker 2: if you've trained to fifteen mins, yeah, I'm like mile
- 28:55Speaker 2: one mile.
- 28:56Speaker 1: But you know, like the leg pain, the leg heaviness,
- 28:59Speaker 1: like yeah, like end of training for a marathon, block
- 29:02Speaker 1: like you shouldn't be feeling soret Then for me on
- 29:06Speaker 1: these runs, I'm two miles in and I'm like, what
- 29:08Speaker 1: is happening? Why am I so sore? Why is this painful?
- 29:12Speaker 1: Why is my heart right through the roof? And so
- 29:15Speaker 1: it is those deep conversations of like dig in. It's
- 29:18Speaker 1: a very different engine that you have to use to
- 29:22Speaker 1: go uphill and downhill as opposed to flat, and it's
- 29:24Speaker 1: getting used to that. And yeah, I'm known for having
- 29:27Speaker 1: dark conversations with myself and I will never disclose what
- 29:30Speaker 1: goes through my head because I probably would be sectioned.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But I think a lot of us would be like
- 29:35Speaker 1: when we push ourselves to do tough things, we really
- 29:37Speaker 1: do dig deep into places that no one else should
- 29:40Speaker 1: other than your therapist should hear about. And yeah, bless
- 29:45Speaker 1: my therapist. But it's what gets me into that mode
- 29:52Speaker 1: of like you can do this, You really can do this,
- 29:56Speaker 1: And I love the freedom. I definitely do feel cathartic
- 29:59Speaker 1: on that like two hour drive back to the city.
- 30:03Speaker 1: But it's like I listen to different music, I listen
- 30:06Speaker 1: to a different podcast. It's very like I'm a different
- 30:09Speaker 1: person once I've got that run done.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And I do like that because that's reclaiming that time
- 30:13Speaker 2: for yourself and I love to hear that there is
- 30:15Speaker 2: some positive self talk that goes with the darkness.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Of course, from time.
- 30:21Speaker 2: From time to time, once the gel's hit, yeah, and
- 30:25Speaker 2: the fuel hits the muscles and maybe for just a
- 30:27Speaker 2: moment they feel a little less sore. Speaking of feeling sore,
- 30:30Speaker 2: how are you recovering these days back?
- 30:33Speaker 3: So, I mean, again a lot of miles. Recovery more
- 30:36Speaker 3: important than ever.
- 30:37Speaker 2: And again we had that conversation about age, so it
- 30:41Speaker 2: is a different conversation that you're having with your body
- 30:45Speaker 2: now versus ten years ago plus when you were again
- 30:49Speaker 2: in that Olympic Trials moment.
- 30:50Speaker 1: A lot of the Norma tech boots, a lot of
- 30:53Speaker 1: naps in the Norma tech boots. That's like, I don't
- 30:56Speaker 1: know what those boots do to me, but I'll fall
- 30:58Speaker 1: asleep as soon as I get in them.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I think it's the brown noise of the machine.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually do put a weighted blanket on top. Two. Yeah,
- 31:10Speaker 1: I think that earlier nights, I will say I've been
- 31:14Speaker 1: doing a lot less screen time. I got a brick.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I think we got Brioks at the same time Christmas
- 31:19Speaker 1: last year, and it's been a game changer for me
- 31:23Speaker 1: of just when I'm in the city, when I'm out
- 31:25Speaker 1: of the city, I'm not bothered about my phone, which
- 31:28Speaker 1: any of my friends will have testament to if they
- 31:30Speaker 1: try and contact me. And Livia's like, yep, I know
- 31:33Speaker 1: if I try and contact you from Friday to Monday,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I don't hear from you because I'm just not on
- 31:38Speaker 1: my phone. But also television. I've just been making promise
- 31:43Speaker 1: to myself to read a book at least every month,
- 31:46Speaker 1: and so I've been like taking myself to bed. My
- 31:48Speaker 1: partner loves to watch TV. That's just his way of
- 31:51Speaker 1: switching off, and that's great, but I'm instead of sitting
- 31:54Speaker 1: there with him, like, Okay, I now just go up
- 31:57Speaker 1: to bed and I read a book. And I found
- 31:59Speaker 1: that really good for my recovery of just winding down
- 32:02Speaker 1: before bed. A lot of magnesium might not say.
- 32:06Speaker 3: That, nich Fine.
- 32:09Speaker 1: A lot of magnesium, yeah, and a lot of acupuncha.
- 32:12Speaker 1: I'm a big believer in actpuncha.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Can I tell you that I started this sounds so
- 32:16Speaker 2: silly as I'm thinking about what I'm about to say.
- 32:18Speaker 3: I started reading fiction again this year.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I got so tired back of every time I picked
- 32:24Speaker 2: up a book, I was made to feel like I
- 32:27Speaker 2: wasn't good enough because I was reading a lot of
- 32:29Speaker 2: self help, right and personal development, and I loved.
- 32:33Speaker 3: The takeaways from the books that I was reading.
- 32:35Speaker 2: But I was probably in a groove for I'm not
- 32:38Speaker 2: even exaggerating, maybe six years, which coincided with me starting
- 32:44Speaker 2: the show and being an entrepreneur and working for myself.
- 32:47Speaker 2: And it was cool until I was spent and over
- 32:52Speaker 2: the last year and a half, basically as I've given
- 32:56Speaker 2: myself this gift of reading fiction again.
- 32:59Speaker 3: To talk about a dreamy way to disconnect.
- 33:02Speaker 1: It's fantastic. I have so many smutty books if you
- 33:04Speaker 1: want to read, Oh I'm in, I'm into that.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I am also in and it's just been such a
- 33:09Speaker 2: nice escape. And also to your note of walking away
- 33:12Speaker 2: from the screen time, I too, like your partner, often
- 33:16Speaker 2: love to unplug by watching something on the television, and
- 33:19Speaker 2: more often than not, that's something I'm doing before I
- 33:23Speaker 2: get to the book and then I get into bed.
- 33:26Speaker 2: So I'm really making looking at non screens a regular habit,
- 33:32Speaker 2: and I'm seeing it pay off. At least my orr
- 33:35Speaker 2: ring is telling you that I'm seeing it pay off
- 33:38Speaker 2: when I get into bed.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Yeah, your like time to fall asleep is shorter.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Oh, I am like I am always kind of like
- 33:45Speaker 2: a light like that. Yeah, I had hits the pillow
- 33:48Speaker 2: and I'm completely out. But also like you, I'm an
- 33:51Speaker 2: early to bed woman.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Yes, it's key. It's very key, especially when you get
- 33:55Speaker 1: up at like four point thirty in the morning.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Yeah, which you and I both have a habit for.
- 34:01Speaker 2: With that said, now us thinking about what's next. We
- 34:05Speaker 2: talked about that theme of adventure. You have some exciting
- 34:08Speaker 2: stuff on the burner right now. Any intel for us.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Any intel. I can't tell you execuly what I'm doing
- 34:15Speaker 1: because my global ambassadorship with Hoker have that deal. She
- 34:20Speaker 1: is very secretive, very secretive. I also it's not just
- 34:25Speaker 1: because of Hoger. I don't tend to like giving away
- 34:30Speaker 1: what I'm doing. I know rich Roll is a big
- 34:32Speaker 1: partner with Ravine, and I am one of his biggest fans.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I listen to his podcast probably every day, and he
- 34:40Speaker 1: always talks about the fact that when we talk about
- 34:43Speaker 1: things that we want to achieve, it actually gives us
- 34:45Speaker 1: this dopamine hit, which is very similar to actually having
- 34:48Speaker 1: achieved it, and it kind of can if you are
- 34:50Speaker 1: a dopamine hit addict, which I think I am, it
- 34:53Speaker 1: can kind of take you down a step from actually
- 34:57Speaker 1: doing it. And that's why I keep a lot of
- 35:00Speaker 1: the things I'm doing close to me because the more
- 35:03Speaker 1: conversations I have about it, I don't want to feel
- 35:05Speaker 1: like I've done it because people are like, oh my gosh,
- 35:07Speaker 1: that's amazing. I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, it is, And
- 35:09Speaker 1: i don't have to do it because I've got all
- 35:11Speaker 1: the congratulations. So that's a big part of it. But yeah,
- 35:15Speaker 1: needs us to say this time next week, I'm going
- 35:17Speaker 1: to be really nervous and really scared for my ankles
- 35:20Speaker 1: and knees and everything else.
- 35:39Speaker 2: How do you calm down before something that you've put
- 35:42Speaker 2: in so much effort, training arguably a ton of opportunity
- 35:47Speaker 2: cost into How do you find your calm and how
- 35:50Speaker 2: do you come back to yourself.
- 35:52Speaker 1: This is going to be a big learning curve and
- 35:54Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a detriment to the
- 35:56Speaker 1: trail world. I tend to do it by myself, and
- 35:59Speaker 1: Austin hates this because he loves he's such a supportive,
- 36:04Speaker 1: encouraging partner. He wants to be there with me and
- 36:07Speaker 1: be by my side doing these big events. But I
- 36:09Speaker 1: prefer if he wasn't because when he's there, I'm still vulnerable.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I'm still like I can cuddle up with him, I
- 36:16Speaker 1: can have verbal diarrhea with him, which is how I
- 36:19Speaker 1: get when I'm really nervous, and so I prefer to
- 36:23Speaker 1: go by myself, and just when I'm by myself, I'm tougher.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I'm just like I'm doing this. You can just be
- 36:29Speaker 1: by yourself and just shut it down. You don't have
- 36:31Speaker 1: to talk to anyone. No one knows you. If they do,
- 36:35Speaker 1: they need to respect that you're in a race situation
- 36:38Speaker 1: right now. So this next race, we're undecided if he's
- 36:44Speaker 1: coming with me. Next week, I'm pushing for no, he's
- 36:48Speaker 1: pushing for yes. And then my big race at the
- 36:51Speaker 1: end of August, he is one hundred percent coming. And
- 36:54Speaker 1: this is the first time Talula's coming with me, which
- 36:57Speaker 1: is going to be terrible, like absolutely terrible, because I
- 37:00Speaker 1: know I'm just going to be a at like a
- 37:01Speaker 1: mess if I finish this race, I'll be a mess
- 37:04Speaker 1: because it's something I've jumped to doing for twelve to
- 37:07Speaker 1: fifteen years of my life. And knowing my daughters at
- 37:13Speaker 1: the finish line like makes me choke up. Now I'll
- 37:15Speaker 1: just be like, I'll just be hiding on the corner
- 37:17Speaker 1: of the thing. Why is she not a finished? Like
- 37:19Speaker 1: you just wait, please put her to bed, then I'll
- 37:23Speaker 1: come down.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Well A, I love that they're coming in August. What
- 37:30Speaker 2: a special moment for you to have your support system
- 37:35Speaker 2: see you do something so outstanding.
- 37:39Speaker 3: And I can also really.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Relate to you on this note of I can feel
- 37:44Speaker 2: tough on my own. I in the complete opposite spectrum
- 37:50Speaker 2: of running, went through the egg freezing process earlier this year,
- 37:56Speaker 2: as we have spoken about many a time, And when
- 37:59Speaker 2: I did that, I did so much of the process alone,
- 38:05Speaker 2: and it was so interesting to me in retrospect when
- 38:08Speaker 2: I think about the retrieval day. I showed up to
- 38:12Speaker 2: the clinic by myself. I went in without anyone there,
- 38:16Speaker 2: but I knew that when I came out, my mom
- 38:19Speaker 2: would be there and she was coming in from Connecticut.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It was just the procedure was so early that getting
- 38:23Speaker 2: in at that time was unnecessary.
- 38:26Speaker 3: And I came out and I was still on my own,
- 38:28Speaker 3: and you know, I'm.
- 38:29Speaker 2: A little loopy and whatever I'm on And the second
- 38:33Speaker 2: I saw my mom, I just had this visceral reaction
- 38:37Speaker 2: of for a moment, right now, someone else can carry
- 38:40Speaker 2: this exactly. I don't need to pay attention to the
- 38:43Speaker 2: doctor in this moment. I don't need to be the
- 38:46Speaker 2: person that needs to be strong for one second. Right now,
- 38:49Speaker 2: someone else can be strong. And so you saying that
- 38:54Speaker 2: there's an and both right there. I totally understand where
- 38:59Speaker 2: you're coming from. I totally understand why you might not
- 39:02Speaker 2: want them there. And how beautiful is it that your
- 39:05Speaker 2: family gets to be there for you exactly exactly.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm lucky to be in that situation. We
- 39:12Speaker 1: all are when we've got a support network. He was
- 39:14Speaker 1: willing to be there for you. It's a blessing. So yeah,
- 39:19Speaker 1: we'll see. I'm used to running and crying.
- 39:21Speaker 3: It happens a lot, aren't we all. I get it.
- 39:26Speaker 3: I've got it.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And the good thing is I will not see her
- 39:28Speaker 1: on the course there is no way my daughter is
- 39:31Speaker 1: going to be hiking up. I say that now, she's
- 39:36Speaker 1: pretty crazy, But I don't think I don't want to
- 39:39Speaker 1: see her on the course, to be honest, I can't
- 39:41Speaker 1: think I can. I've understood that I can handle seeing
- 39:44Speaker 1: Austin on the course. And then he's come to one
- 39:46Speaker 1: of my other races recently and I was okay seeing
- 39:50Speaker 1: him until he surprised me a second time and then
- 39:52Speaker 1: I broke down into tears and we're like, just want
- 39:55Speaker 1: to stop.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Okay. So doesn't want to be surprised ever?
- 39:58Speaker 1: No, I do, but I don't. Typical female surprised me
- 40:01Speaker 1: all the time. But don't because I need only.
- 40:04Speaker 3: Nice trips, a nice hotels. Yes, that's it.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Not when you're like thirty miles deep into a race,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I really want it over exactly.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Hey, all of it again so relatable.
- 40:15Speaker 2: So beyond running as you start to wind down, here,
- 40:19Speaker 2: tell me what is exciting you right now? What's Beck's
- 40:22Speaker 2: doing when she's not on the peloton, she's not on
- 40:26Speaker 2: your screen, and she's not on the run.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Chasing my daughter around. I have a very rambunctious little
- 40:32Speaker 1: girl who is full of personality, and she's me everybody
- 40:38Speaker 1: keeps saying she is literally a tiny you, and just
- 40:44Speaker 1: being able to watch her grow and form into this
- 40:46Speaker 1: human is such a wonderful thing. And I think anybody
- 40:49Speaker 1: who has children in their lives, whether they're your children
- 40:52Speaker 1: or other other people's children, just seeing them become who
- 40:56Speaker 1: they are is such a beautiful process. So that takes
- 41:01Speaker 1: a lot of energy just seeing this happen, understanding it. Yeah,
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm becoming a suburban mom, I guess, which is incredibly
- 41:10Speaker 1: interesting part of me. I really love that I could
- 41:13Speaker 1: leave my house in my car and not have to
- 41:16Speaker 1: fight someone for parking spot in Brooklyn. It's the disassociation
- 41:21Speaker 1: with the life of having a lot here in this
- 41:25Speaker 1: city and understanding that what truly matters are a very
- 41:30Speaker 1: few things health, happiness, food, And that's been really really
- 41:38Speaker 1: wonderful of just getting up there and being like, oh,
- 41:41Speaker 1: this is the same pair of jeans that I've had
- 41:43Speaker 1: for six months up here, and then come back to
- 41:45Speaker 1: Brooklyn and I'm like, twenty peszigeens. Why do I need
- 41:47Speaker 1: that many pezzogeens?
- 41:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 41:49Speaker 1: Like what? So I'm excited about our next chapter of
- 41:54Speaker 1: being up there all the time, like officially leaving the
- 41:58Speaker 1: city full time in a few weeks, fully becoming a
- 42:01Speaker 1: suburban mom. I'm excited about why Trail Runnings taking me.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I'm excited about seeing how my performance grows as a
- 42:11Speaker 1: forty year old mom and professional of like where that
- 42:15Speaker 1: goes with Peloton, where it goes personally, because who knows,
- 42:21Speaker 1: who knows what's going to happen. But I'm going to
- 42:23Speaker 1: keep trying, and I'm going to keep trying to thrive.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I smile hear you speaking so fondly about the experiences
- 42:31Speaker 2: and the excitement that comes with being a forty year
- 42:35Speaker 2: old mom. Can you imagine sitting here ten years ago
- 42:40Speaker 2: and saying that sentence, No, Oh.
- 42:43Speaker 1: My god, No, absolutely not. I was hugely a non
- 42:48Speaker 1: kid person ten years ago. I was like, no, never
- 42:51Speaker 1: having kids, not doing that, not for me. I was
- 42:55Speaker 1: also married before, to the wrong person, and I think
- 42:59Speaker 1: that I had a huge part of it. I didn't
- 43:01Speaker 1: want kids because I wasn't with the right person to
- 43:04Speaker 1: take me down that path. And yeah, it's kind of
- 43:08Speaker 1: crazy to think. Literally ten years ago, I was a
- 43:11Speaker 1: whole different, whole different. I was on the precipice of
- 43:15Speaker 1: getting off at a job at Peloton. Yeah, this time
- 43:17Speaker 1: ten years ago.
- 43:18Speaker 2: It all happens for you right yeah, yeah, before I
- 43:22Speaker 2: let you go today, Becks, you have an opportunity to
- 43:25Speaker 2: offer yourself maybe that piece of advice looking back on
- 43:29Speaker 2: you ten years ago, with this understanding of the importance
- 43:33Speaker 2: of grace, this understanding and appreciation for exactly where you
- 43:37Speaker 2: are right now, you have an opportunity to tell her
- 43:40Speaker 2: something in this moment.
- 43:42Speaker 3: What do you tell her?
- 43:43Speaker 1: What do I tell her? There's so many things like
- 43:46Speaker 1: we would be here all night me chat. Yeah, that's
- 43:49Speaker 1: your old Begs was wild. I would say, don't be
- 43:56Speaker 1: over confident, but don't understan yourself. Be my best piece
- 44:00Speaker 1: of advice.
- 44:01Speaker 3: That's it, Beks Gentry.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Always a pleasure to sit down with you, and so
- 44:06Speaker 2: happy again to be here with you at Rivian. Thank
- 44:09Speaker 2: you so much for your time. For those that aren't
- 44:11Speaker 2: following along with you just yet, how do they find you?
- 44:14Speaker 3: How do they keep up with you?
- 44:15Speaker 1: If they can try, you can head up to Instagram
- 44:16Speaker 1: It's at bechs Gentry, or you can find me on Peloton.
- 44:20Speaker 2: On Peloton, I'm over at Emiabadi and at Hurdle Podcast.
- 44:24Speaker 2: As I say on the show, another Hurdle Conquered. Catch
- 44:28Speaker 2: you guys next time. Thank you so much, thank you
