- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:19Speaker 1: a hater. It is Foxworth Friday. Dominique Foxworth, what's going on?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Oh, it's football Friday too, which like as a country,
- 0:28Speaker 2: we all love football and it's fun, but also as
- 0:32Speaker 2: an industry.
- 0:35Speaker 1: It's a game changer. It's a game changer. First of all,
- 0:37Speaker 1: do you like my Honolulu blue t-shirt? It's gorgeous.
- 0:40Speaker 2: It is gorgeous.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yes, I just got it in the mail. I got
- 0:43Speaker 1: my hoodie for the cold season, but I needed something
- 0:45Speaker 1: a little Right now. You know what I'm saying?
- 0:47Speaker 2: How y'all feeling, though? Like, with the coordinators and.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I feel like we have an incredible roster and a
- 0:54Speaker 1: great head coach. That's how I feel. We gonna see...
- 0:58Speaker 1: Jimmy's and Joe's, baby. Like, you know, let's not get
- 1:01Speaker 1: ourselves too caught up on these. Especially with the approach. Like, look,
- 1:06Speaker 1: they had a very good offense and they was running
- 1:07Speaker 1: some plays. But when you think about it, I don't
- 1:09Speaker 1: get the feeling that Dan Campbell is out here like,
- 1:11Speaker 1: we gonna beat y'all with scheme. No. That's not what
- 1:13Speaker 1: we're going to do. We're gonna beat you.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to seeing what the next move, because
- 1:22Speaker 2: we talked about this before. I think with coaches, it's
- 1:24Speaker 2: like we're quick to give somebody the genius label when
- 1:28Speaker 2: they have done something successful. But whether we use the
- 1:32Speaker 2: term genius or not, that those tip top of the
- 1:35Speaker 2: league minds are they need to be able to have
- 1:38Speaker 2: a couple moves. We need to test you a bunch
- 1:41Speaker 2: of different ways. And like, we seeing that with Mike
- 1:43Speaker 2: McDaniel down in Miami now, like that man, he, he
- 1:46Speaker 2: had one good idea. And now we try to figure out, like,
- 1:52Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I say that to say about Ben Johnson.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's like, there's plenty to point to. That's really good.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But you know, this, when I start picking teams that
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think are going to have great seasons, I start
- 2:01Speaker 2: with the old line. If you got a good old line,
- 2:04Speaker 2: A lot of y'all, I mean, you have a luxury
- 2:06Speaker 2: to be trickier than most teams can be. So we'll
- 2:10Speaker 2: see what happens with him. But y'all still got that
- 2:12Speaker 2: O-line minus rack now. Y'all be all right.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'll say the concern is on the inside, right? That's
- 2:18Speaker 1: where you got it. And it's interesting seeing like the
- 2:20Speaker 1: people who know more about offensive line stuff than I do.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And they are not nearly as impressed with my guy,
- 2:26Speaker 1: Panay Sewell. As they are, as they say, he is
- 2:29Speaker 1: not the greatest pass blocker. But I feel like the
- 2:32Speaker 1: way he run block, what we say about his pass
- 2:35Speaker 1: blocking is almost being like, yo, they say that boy
- 2:38Speaker 1: Dirk can't dribble. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:42Speaker 2: And it makes it easier for you to pass block,
- 2:45Speaker 2: especially we got a play play action centric offense like that.
- 2:48Speaker 2: replace the people on the inside that reminds me a
- 2:50Speaker 2: little bit of the Eagles and I don't know if
- 2:52Speaker 2: you know this but they we talked about it last
- 2:55Speaker 2: year how they was putting tackles at guard they went
- 2:57Speaker 2: and found another one like they lost they lost Makai
- 3:01Speaker 2: Becton and they got another 6'6 350 pounder I think Yeah, they– Oh, damn, because.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I was just talking with Golf on Wednesday with Landon
- 3:10Speaker 1: Dickerson being hurt and with Becton being out of there
- 3:12Speaker 1: that they might not be as– like, they're not going
- 3:15Speaker 1: to be as good as they were last year because
- 3:16Speaker 1: I don't know if it's possible to be as good
- 3:17Speaker 1: as they were last year, though that's the argument to
- 3:19Speaker 1: make against the Lions also. The difference is they mind. So, like,
- 3:23Speaker 1: you know, that's not going to get you very far
- 3:27Speaker 1: here on the riggy right, Todd.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm looking.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Tyler Steen is the one that, I mean, he
- 3:34Speaker 2: played a good amount last year, but he's the replacement
- 3:37Speaker 2: for Makai Beckton. Everybody else is back. I mean, well,
- 3:40Speaker 2: injuries is a different story, but yeah, their whole line
- 3:44Speaker 2: is pretty much intact. But I mean, you got two
- 3:47Speaker 2: guys that could be argued the best at their position
- 3:50Speaker 2: at tackles. Them fellas on the inside and Tyler Steen
- 3:55Speaker 2: is 6'6, 320, which is not Makai Beckton, but But
- 4:00Speaker 2: sooner or later, they're going to catch on. All you
- 4:02Speaker 2: guys got these D tackles that you got because they
- 4:04Speaker 2: can pass rush. We ain't fucking with that in Philadelphia.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Hey, look here. Look here. Somewhere, the next 10, Washington. Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's actually surprising because the mountainous defensive tackle kind of
- 4:22Speaker 1: got legislated out a little bit, but not entirely. I
- 4:25Speaker 1: guess the demands on that player became different. You could
- 4:28Speaker 1: no longer be Gilbert Brown. Maybe you could be Sam Adams.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Sam Adams, before he got to be a giant, was
- 4:35Speaker 1: an All-American champion. defensive end, like edge rusher type. Like
- 4:39Speaker 1: that's what he was on the way up. Maybe you
- 4:41Speaker 1: got to be Dexter Lawrence, right? Where you have that
- 4:45Speaker 1: at like, where are those guys or have those guys
- 4:48Speaker 1: been reap? I think I saw this once as a
- 4:51Speaker 1: thing about the state of Texas and the players are
- 4:53Speaker 1: produced because for a while, the state was not really
- 4:56Speaker 1: producing interior defensive linemen because the players that possess that
- 4:59Speaker 1: athleticism were being made to play offensive line because that's
- 5:03Speaker 1: what was more valuable for what the game was if
- 5:05Speaker 1: they would play it. Are we going to have to
- 5:06Speaker 1: start seeing some of these offensive linemen where you're going
- 5:09Speaker 1: to need to start keeping them at defensive tap?
- 5:12Speaker 2: I mean, that's the thing. I know when I was
- 5:16Speaker 2: growing up, and I assume it was the same particularly
- 5:18Speaker 2: in Texas, is if there's a fat kid, they tell
- 5:22Speaker 2: him you should play football. I feel like that might
- 5:25Speaker 2: have changed because there ain't really that many. I mean,
- 5:28Speaker 2: it's big, but There were a couple kids on my
- 5:31Speaker 2: high school team that couldn't play football, but we just
- 5:35Speaker 2: thought through our minds, you know what fat kids do?
- 5:38Speaker 2: They play football.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You got to give it a try. Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I feel like that has changed because nobody's fat in
- 5:45Speaker 2: the NFL anymore. Everybody big, but nobody fat no more. Okay.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I have two hypotheses that I will throw out here.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I am not saying any of them are correct. I'm
- 5:55Speaker 1: not saying any of them are what I think. I
- 5:57Speaker 1: am throwing them out here so that we can engage
- 5:59Speaker 1: in the scientific method and perhaps decide what we got here.
- 6:03Speaker 1: One of them is because we are pushing kids into
- 6:07Speaker 1: high level sports so early in their lives that they
- 6:10Speaker 1: don't even really get no chance to be fat. Right.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Like you already like conditioning them up. and getting them
- 6:17Speaker 1: to where they need to be, right? So that's number one,
- 6:19Speaker 1: because I ain't gonna lie, I see a lot of
- 6:22Speaker 1: fat kids out here in these streets, brother. Like, they here.
- 6:26Speaker 1: They here. Even in this walking-ass city, man, it's still,
- 6:29Speaker 1: it's a lot of double-stuffed kids out here in these streets.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And what we may have number two, where you saying that,
- 6:36Speaker 1: you know, they not making them kids play football like that.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Maybe it's some combination of y'all don't be making kids
- 6:42Speaker 1: do nothing anymore that they don't feel like doing, which
- 6:44Speaker 1: ties into what may be the next level of the
- 6:46Speaker 1: hypothesis is what if, I mean, it stands to reason
- 6:50Speaker 1: if we have a lazier set of kids that we've
- 6:53Speaker 1: ever had before. And I don't know if that's true,
- 6:55Speaker 1: but if that were the case, right, that would then
- 6:58Speaker 1: mean we also got the laziest fat kids we've ever had. I, fair,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but I also think that there was at least for the,
- 7:08Speaker 1: that's one of the things about football that was kind
- 7:10Speaker 1: of cool and different because it was the place where
- 7:14Speaker 1: a kid like that could feel like they had some value,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you know, it was like, there's no, nobody's like.
- 7:21Speaker 2: There's no other sport that we're like, Hey, you're perfect
- 7:24Speaker 2: for this. It's like being the tall guy. They're like, Hey,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you're perfect for this. I think the demands of the
- 7:29Speaker 2: game are, have changed even at the lower level where
- 7:31Speaker 2: they pass more than they did back in the day,
- 7:33Speaker 2: but not as much as they do at the higher levels.
- 7:36Speaker 2: It's still just such a fast paced game. spread out game.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I guess it's because there ain't no fat offensive lineman
- 7:42Speaker 1: no more. That part is not a guard, not anywhere.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Dang, man.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So we got to find something for him to do, baby.
- 7:50Speaker 1: You can't just, all these kinds of things, man, you
- 7:52Speaker 1: just can't be leaving these people out here with nothing
- 7:54Speaker 1: to do and no identity. You know what I'm saying?
- 7:56Speaker 2: I know you weren't making this accusation, but for anybody
- 7:59Speaker 2: who does feel this way, I do have one defense
- 8:02Speaker 2: for the lazy kid. I don't think the lazy kid
- 8:05Speaker 2: is always the fat kid. That's what I'm saying.
- 8:07Speaker 1: It's a lot of lazy kids.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And there's also a lot of fat kids. Well, maybe
- 8:11Speaker 2: not a lot, but there are fat kids.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And I think that they are the same thing.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they are the same thing. And in the defense,
- 8:18Speaker 2: and I actually learned this when I retired, in the
- 8:22Speaker 2: defense of those kids, genetics is strong, boy. They are strong.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Because I stopped playing and stopped working out. shit's still
- 8:32Speaker 2: cool it's just because i was born that.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Way i've learned i'm not the person that's allowed to
- 8:37Speaker 1: offer any measure of judgment for people who struggle with
- 8:40Speaker 1: weight in that direction because i can't yeah i can't
- 8:43Speaker 1: relate i gained like fetid pounds in a very short
- 8:46Speaker 1: period of time and the people who knew me could
- 8:49Speaker 1: kind of see it the people who didn't couldn't believe
- 8:51Speaker 1: it they were like what do you mean What the
- 8:54Speaker 1: hell did you look like before, right?
- 8:59Speaker 2: I felt like that I wanted to defend them because
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think for most of my life, because I was
- 9:04Speaker 2: such an intense athlete, I was like, yeah, my body's
- 9:08Speaker 2: like this. because I worked so hard. Then I stopped
- 9:11Speaker 2: working hard. It was like, my shit was fine. And
- 9:13Speaker 2: so now I looked at these other people like, yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 2: they got full-time jobs. They probably working pretty hard and
- 9:19Speaker 2: eating right. But you can't really beat them jeans, man.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But I am going to say this, man. If all
- 9:24Speaker 1: you need in this world is in the phone, Then
- 9:27Speaker 1: you ain't necessarily going to be if you ain't out
- 9:29Speaker 1: here running around, you know what I'm saying? Just out
- 9:31Speaker 1: there with the kids. Hey, man. Well, I will go
- 9:34Speaker 1: out there and get hit all the time. That seems preposterous.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Speaking of preposterous, I think we are underestimating or don't
- 9:40Speaker 1: talk nearly enough about the idea that even though they
- 9:43Speaker 1: got the brakes beat off from the last time, the
- 9:46Speaker 1: Chiefs have gone to the Super Bowl three years in
- 9:48Speaker 1: a row and are about to like. suit up to
- 9:51Speaker 1: maybe go for the fourth. First game, Friday night in Brazil.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Don't get captured, as RTJ would say. Don't get kidnapped,
- 9:59Speaker 1: as I'm sure they do. them when they first got
- 10:01Speaker 1: down there uh to brazil they are playing against um
- 10:05Speaker 1: the charges um you know i'm very good friends i
- 10:09Speaker 1: was about to say very good friends with my buddy
- 10:10Speaker 1: nick but that is redundant But I have been listening
- 10:13Speaker 1: and watching online to a lot of Nick's defenses of
- 10:16Speaker 1: the Chiefs, which all are always plausible because Nick is captain, argument,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and structure. But at the same time, I do get
- 10:22Speaker 1: the feeling that people are kind of like sleeping on
- 10:25Speaker 1: what's going on here. Like, I feel like their record
- 10:27Speaker 1: won't be as good as last year, but they will
- 10:28Speaker 1: be better than they were last year.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think that that's boring to talk about.
- 10:33Speaker 2: But by and large, I think most people agree. Like,
- 10:36Speaker 2: I don't think that anybody, if you ask them, think
- 10:39Speaker 2: that the Chiefs are– not going to be good. There's
- 10:41Speaker 2: some people who are arguing like the Broncos have a
- 10:44Speaker 2: chance of taking a division from them. Like, of course,
- 10:46Speaker 2: they got a chance. They're good enough. But what? I mean,
- 10:51Speaker 2: who put money on it? Like, who really, really is like,
- 10:54Speaker 2: I got the Broncos. I think there's some people who
- 10:56Speaker 2: believe it's possible. Not many people who I think are
- 10:59Speaker 2: going to pick them. And then on top of it, like,
- 11:02Speaker 2: we seen them. We have seen it before. And the
- 11:07Speaker 2: real scary part is the way that they kind of
- 11:10Speaker 2: perfected a different way to win last year. And those tight,
- 11:15Speaker 2: close games is something that we have faith in them
- 11:17Speaker 2: to do. I don't think it's going to be, I
- 11:19Speaker 2: don't think they're going to have the same type of
- 11:21Speaker 2: offense where it's just like seven-man protections anytime they want
- 11:24Speaker 2: to go deep. If this Josh Simmons guy is as
- 11:26Speaker 2: good as Louis Riddick and other people who I know
- 11:29Speaker 2: know what they're talking about, tell me he is at tackle.
- 11:32Speaker 2: And they got multiple dudes who run sub-4-3, sub, submarine, beneath.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Under 4.3 seconds, man. More than one of them on
- 11:49Speaker 2: the same roster. Like, I get it. Rasheed Rice, get
- 11:53Speaker 2: him back eventually after suspension, and he's going to be
- 11:56Speaker 2: able to move the chains and offer something different. I
- 11:59Speaker 2: don't give a damn what you say. The boys can fly.
- 12:02Speaker 2: That's scary.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. I don't know if there's,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and you tell me if I'm wrong here, but I
- 12:08Speaker 1: feel like there is no position in the league where
- 12:10Speaker 1: a team, if you're going into, we'll call it the
- 12:13Speaker 1: top 15 or 20 in the draft, need a tackle,
- 12:18Speaker 1: see a tackle, take a tackle. We're good for 10 years, right?
- 12:24Speaker 1: Like from day one, we are good. You see a tackle,
- 12:28Speaker 1: need a tackle, take a tackle. You do that right there.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Dust them hands and keep it moving.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And they got him at the end of the draft
- 12:36Speaker 2: because of injury concerns. I've been told by people who
- 12:41Speaker 2: watch college line play. I watch college stuff when I
- 12:45Speaker 2: get ready for the draft, but I don't watch college
- 12:47Speaker 2: line play. I take your word for it. I watch
- 12:49Speaker 2: some college line highlights, but I'm not about to break
- 12:51Speaker 2: down a bunch of line film. He looks like an athlete.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I've been told that he's a great tackle. And this
- 12:58Speaker 2: reminds me a little bit of the We overplay, I think,
- 13:02Speaker 2: the Super Bowl window on the rookie quarterback contract. Like,
- 13:06Speaker 2: I think we overplay that as a thing. Like, obviously,
- 13:08Speaker 2: it's a thing. But I think you can obviously build
- 13:11Speaker 2: a team without that once you've paid your quarterback. But
- 13:16Speaker 2: I think the real story is superstar talent on a
- 13:20Speaker 2: rookie contract at important positions. So, like, if they found
- 13:25Speaker 2: a tackle who's a Pro Bowl-level tackle– Like Lou Riddick
- 13:28Speaker 2: told me he saw him as all pro level. If
- 13:31Speaker 2: you got that for four years, five years, price control,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and you got that quarterback, that's almost like having a quarterback.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's just as good as having like a
- 13:49Speaker 2: starting level quarterback, not a superstar. It's different. You have
- 13:51Speaker 2: a superstar quarterback. Like a starting level quarterback on a
- 13:54Speaker 2: rookie deal is, to me, almost as valuable because you're
- 13:57Speaker 2: going to spend that money building up around that quarterback.
- 14:01Speaker 2: If you can spend that money on your quarterback because
- 14:04Speaker 2: he's a future Hall of Famer and maybe the best
- 14:05Speaker 2: we've ever seen, and on weapons around him and improving
- 14:08Speaker 2: that defense, I think that is just as much a
- 14:11Speaker 2: benefit as anything else.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Well, I also think that hitting on winners in rounds
- 14:15Speaker 1: two through four is probably underrated. I think about the
- 14:19Speaker 1: Legion of Boom Seahawks. And look at what they did
- 14:23Speaker 1: in those rounds, basically in, like, the same run of
- 14:27Speaker 1: a couple of years, right? Richard Sherman, Cam Chancellor, Bobby Wagner, um...
- 14:33Speaker 1: there's another one I'm not thinking of off the top
- 14:35Speaker 1: of my head, but like they got those guys at
- 14:38Speaker 1: the cheap places. And of course what happens is they
- 14:40Speaker 1: all come up for deals at the same time. Right.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Like that's the, that's the trick bag of it. But
- 14:45Speaker 1: if you can get those dudes, like the thing with
- 14:46Speaker 1: the Eagles is the Eagles have zillions of good players
- 14:50Speaker 1: on those early deals. Like we talking about those defensive tackles.
- 14:53Speaker 1: They got Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter and, and. Cool.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And what do you do?
- 15:05Speaker 2: They back out that man playing safety. They moved him.
- 15:09Speaker 2: They moved him. He's nickel in safety now. It happened eventually.
- 15:13Speaker 2: It was coming. Shout out Riley Moss holding it down.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You talking about our man Coop?
- 15:17Speaker 2: Yeah, our man Coop.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know what, man? They so loaded. Yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 1: They're like, okay. But they're going to play against the Chargers, man.
- 15:25Speaker 1: And how long are we going to keep letting Justin
- 15:28Speaker 1: Herbert get away with this? Ugh.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Gosh, he lost his tackle too. Speaking of important to tackle,
- 15:34Speaker 2: Sean Slater is out, which like that changes everything particularly.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I mean, they have their other tackles really good too,
- 15:41Speaker 2: Joe Alt. But I mean, it's still, it's not the same, man.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Especially when you're building this team around the Harbaugh philosophies.
- 15:48Speaker 2: This is not the same, but yeah, I mean, there's, yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 2: you know, run out of excuses. It's so funny how our, our,
- 15:55Speaker 2: our priors and our opinions, we like stick to them because, uh, Obviously,
- 16:00Speaker 2: the reaction to Justin Herbert would be a lot different
- 16:02Speaker 2: if people had different opinions of him headed in. I
- 16:07Speaker 2: think the things that he does are pretty impressive and great,
- 16:09Speaker 2: and I can get behind it. I understand why people
- 16:11Speaker 2: are attracted to him as a talent. But if he
- 16:15Speaker 2: was a pick that was later in the draft that
- 16:18Speaker 2: we didn't respect and we weren't enamored with some of
- 16:21Speaker 2: the big play stuff, there'd be some real serious criticism.
- 16:25Speaker 2: And I think it's coming. I think it's coming.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Well, I would make this point. He was drafted a
- 16:31Speaker 1: year ahead of Trevor Lawrence. And the heat has arrived
- 16:36Speaker 1: for Trevor Lawrence. This is the year on Lawrence where
- 16:39Speaker 1: we're asking these questions. It was Herbert who blew the
- 16:44Speaker 1: 27-0 lead in the playoffs to Trevor Lawrence's team. Not
- 16:48Speaker 1: vice versa. Yet we are still holding out maybe just maybe.
- 16:52Speaker 1: And now Herbert is in one of the biggest no
- 16:56Speaker 1: excuses situations a quarterback can have, which is your coach
- 16:59Speaker 1: is Jim Harbaugh, right? Like that's the guy we trust
- 17:03Speaker 1: on these things as much as anybody else there is.
- 17:06Speaker 1: If he can't get it done this year, I mean,
- 17:09Speaker 1: it's not like they're going to trade him or anything
- 17:10Speaker 1: like that. Like it's not like they can go find
- 17:12Speaker 1: a better one, but the heat is there. I think
- 17:15Speaker 1: this is a case where the Chargers not having no
- 17:18Speaker 1: home city and only having so many fans really comes
- 17:22Speaker 1: in handy.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty nice. It's pretty nice when people only care.
- 17:26Speaker 2: when you make the playoffs and then there's not a
- 17:29Speaker 2: whole groundswell of people being pissed off when you blow
- 17:32Speaker 2: a big lead. Yeah. I, it's one of those things
- 17:36Speaker 2: where Justin Herbert has the, the uncoachable stuff, man. And
- 17:40Speaker 2: that's always going to be incredibly enticing. And he's put
- 17:43Speaker 2: it together enough times. Like that's, it reminds me a
- 17:46Speaker 2: little bit of like Kyler Murray in that, whereas Kyler
- 17:49Speaker 2: Murray has some more obvious, like, like the size issue
- 17:53Speaker 2: where people are quicker to be out on them. and
- 17:55Speaker 2: a personality that I think is a little easier for
- 17:58Speaker 2: people to be out on. But it's been similar in
- 18:01Speaker 2: that there are stretches where I'm like, damn, he, he
- 18:04Speaker 2: wanted him once. And then there's stretches where it's like, nah.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And then he does things that like nobody else can
- 18:10Speaker 2: do this. And I think Justin Herbert fits in the
- 18:13Speaker 2: same category where it's like some of those throws and athleticism,
- 18:16Speaker 2: you're like, yeah, it's worth sticking around. And then he
- 18:18Speaker 2: puts it together for a long enough stretch that you
- 18:20Speaker 2: can imagine that he could do it for extended period
- 18:22Speaker 2: of time. Yeah, I wouldn't give up on him either.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't really talk about how cold Kyler Murray
- 18:28Speaker 1: is just in terms of like what it is that
- 18:31Speaker 1: he is capable of doing. It looked like Darren Rowe
- 18:33Speaker 1: running when he running because he's like legs be going
- 18:35Speaker 1: in that circle. You know what I'm saying? Like you
- 18:38Speaker 1: see that, but I'm trying to think of a quarterback
- 18:42Speaker 1: his size where when we talk about the criticisms of him,
- 18:46Speaker 1: we don't bring them back to his size. Like he
- 18:50Speaker 1: overcomes all of the things that, that he should not
- 18:53Speaker 1: be able to overcome on a size level.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:58Speaker 1: It's just the other things. Yeah.
- 19:00Speaker 2: That's one of my, one of my friends, his, his,
- 19:04Speaker 2: one of his go-tos was like, I want you to
- 19:06Speaker 2: appreciate the distance I traveled. And we were talking about
- 19:10Speaker 2: like school and other things like that. Like, yeah, I
- 19:12Speaker 2: got to be, but I didn't go to one class
- 19:15Speaker 2: and I just studied the night before. Let's appreciate what
- 19:18Speaker 2: I overcame. And I feel like Murray, we could have
- 19:24Speaker 2: the same conversation where it's like, we like, man, but
- 19:27Speaker 2: you ain't, but you ain't put it all together for
- 19:30Speaker 2: a stretch. You're not on a level with Mahomes, Allen
- 19:32Speaker 2: and them. You're not up there.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But guys, do you have any clue what I had
- 19:38Speaker 1: to do to get here? I don't think you do. Like, like,
- 19:41Speaker 1: that's like, for the way you talking to me right now.
- 19:44Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying? I don't think you realized it.
- 19:48Speaker 1: uh speaking of the distance travel as you and i
- 19:52Speaker 1: have talked about for a long time and i hate
- 19:53Speaker 1: that i feel like i have to give this this
- 19:55Speaker 1: preface every time because otherwise somebody always won't come say
- 19:59Speaker 1: something to you about it you know but y'all were
- 20:03Speaker 1: Premature adopters of Josh Allen. We, while later than you guys,
- 20:08Speaker 1: I believe showed up right on time and we are
- 20:11Speaker 1: now all here together. Uh, we get Buffalo and Baltimore
- 20:16Speaker 1: Sunday night to open the season. Um, I wish that
- 20:20Speaker 1: they would give the MVP out before the game so
- 20:23Speaker 1: that Lamar Jackson could have his Hakeem Olajuwon moment. Hey, man,
- 20:27Speaker 1: that's my MVP. The difference is when that happened with
- 20:31Speaker 1: Olajuwon and David Robinson, it really was David Robinson's MVP.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And in this case, there's just no way around it, man.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I think I got mad when I said it to
- 20:40Speaker 1: someone because they didn't know the context, but the truth is,
- 20:43Speaker 1: The voters just felt like giving Josh Allen an MVP.
- 20:46Speaker 1: They thought it would be a nice thing to do.
- 20:48Speaker 1: That's the only way that you could rationalize him being
- 20:50Speaker 1: second team all pro and being the MVP and the
- 20:53Speaker 1: voters being the same. It's the only way that you
- 20:56Speaker 1: could do that. The thing is, that boy is cold, cold, cold, cold. Like,
- 21:01Speaker 1: let us, let us, like, it's not the heat. It's
- 21:03Speaker 1: not an MVP caliber type of talent, right? But if
- 21:07Speaker 1: this were a Michael, and I'm not saying everybody got
- 21:09Speaker 1: to be Michael Jordan, but can you imagine if Lamar
- 21:11Speaker 1: Jackson was Michael Jordan? He put up 500 yards rushing
- 21:15Speaker 1: and 300 yards passing in these games. He put up
- 21:17Speaker 1: numbers like they was playing against Army. You know what
- 21:21Speaker 1: I'm saying? This is going to be such an interesting game.
- 21:24Speaker 1: But before I came here to record, I was seeing something.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I think it was on one of the ESPN shows.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And it was a discussion about this is the year
- 21:34Speaker 1: for Baltimore to put it all together. Kind of no excuses.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And I'm like, how does this not apply to Buffalo? Like,
- 21:40Speaker 1: I think it's a fair argument to make about each
- 21:43Speaker 1: of those teams, which is what I think makes this
- 21:45Speaker 1: more interesting. It's not with those two teams. It's not
- 21:49Speaker 1: a matter of you got to get over each other.
- 21:52Speaker 1: It don't matter about each other no more. Y'all supposed
- 21:55Speaker 1: to go to the Super Bowl after we just got
- 21:57Speaker 1: through talking about the Chiefs. Like, these are the cats
- 22:01Speaker 1: that feel like the dudes at the same time as Jordan.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah. And you could argue that their best opportunity has
- 22:08Speaker 2: passed for both teams already, given that the Chiefs might
- 22:12Speaker 2: be back on the come up and address their issues
- 22:16Speaker 2: with their offensive deficiencies. But I think so.
- 22:21Speaker 2: The reason why I think that people make the argument
- 22:23Speaker 2: about the Ravens is like, I think it's clear that
- 22:26Speaker 2: the Ravens overall roster is better, but they don't have
- 22:28Speaker 2: the same benefit that the Bills have in a division
- 22:31Speaker 2: that they got at least four, four dubs right there
- 22:35Speaker 2: that we're going to count up, maybe six. And that's tough.
- 22:41Speaker 2: But I think I obviously do those shows. And so
- 22:45Speaker 2: that question has been presented to me and been invited
- 22:48Speaker 2: for me to make that take about the Ravens. I
- 22:51Speaker 2: can't do it because it's every damn year, man. Like
- 22:54Speaker 2: I feel like it's been like that for five years.
- 22:57Speaker 2: As soon as Lamar Jackson was playing MVP level football.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And I think they might've been 14 and two. That
- 23:02Speaker 2: might've been before there was 17 games maybe, but they
- 23:05Speaker 2: were just, they just been just great. Simply great. Since
- 23:10Speaker 2: Lamar fully took over. So I, I have a hard
- 23:13Speaker 2: time and I think we did it so many times.
- 23:15Speaker 2: We have a short memory. We've done it so many
- 23:16Speaker 2: times with the Ravens that I feel stupid even saying it. We're,
- 23:20Speaker 2: they had the first round by like, this is their
- 23:22Speaker 2: best chance. They better not blow it. Guess what? They
- 23:23Speaker 2: back at it again. Guess what? They back at it again.
- 23:26Speaker 2: This organization has really well run, always has a good
- 23:29Speaker 2: roster and has a quarterback in his prime. I feel
- 23:31Speaker 2: like an idiot saying about the Ravens or the bills
- 23:35Speaker 2: that this is your last best chance. Cause it ain't
- 23:37Speaker 2: long as those guys are there. It ain't.
- 23:39Speaker 1: And the Ravens blew it. I mean, I don't want
- 23:42Speaker 1: to take credit away from the team that won and
- 23:44Speaker 1: act like they did not win the game, but the
- 23:47Speaker 1: Ravens gave that game away. Like I think in watching it, yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: It was a, the moments have overwhelmed Lamar up until
- 23:55Speaker 1: this point. I think that's a fair point to make.
- 23:57Speaker 1: And you could see it as soon as the mistakes
- 23:59Speaker 1: would start early, come to the sidelines, slamming that helmet.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It's like, oh boy. Like I went to the US
- 24:04Speaker 1: Open the other day and tennis is so interesting to
- 24:06Speaker 1: watch because you can just watch people crack. You know
- 24:09Speaker 1: what I mean? Like there's nowhere to hide. You're out
- 24:11Speaker 1: there all by yourself. And you could tell sometimes very early,
- 24:15Speaker 1: oh man, he ain't gonna win. Like he has already
- 24:18Speaker 1: begun to come unglued. This is going to happen. Lamar
- 24:21Speaker 1: felt like it. This was the first time he didn't
- 24:23Speaker 1: feel like he was coming unglued and he's made all
- 24:26Speaker 1: the throws late that you need to make. Now, Mark Andrews,
- 24:28Speaker 1: he was in pieces for reasons that I don't quite
- 24:31Speaker 1: understand by the time that game was over. But to me,
- 24:34Speaker 1: even without the win, that felt like a big hurdle.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Like Josh Allen had his game that you and I
- 24:39Speaker 1: will talk about forever in 2019, where he came unglued
- 24:43Speaker 1: and he threw that ball down the field at that fullback, a.k.a.
- 24:46Speaker 1: square body, right? And then he has some panic in
- 24:51Speaker 1: him still, right? But he has largely gotten rid of that.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And I think that may be what it comes down
- 24:56Speaker 1: to for both sides on them is which one of
- 24:58Speaker 1: them cats If they come up against each other, which
- 25:00Speaker 1: is entirely possible in the same round, maybe not the
- 25:03Speaker 1: same stadium, it's just a matter of whether you can
- 25:06Speaker 1: stay glued because talent ain't going to be the issue
- 25:09Speaker 1: with either of them. Execution, like Lamar has become such
- 25:12Speaker 1: a good passer that I can't believe that people are
- 25:13Speaker 1: still trying to hold out on the idea that somehow
- 25:16Speaker 1: he is lacking as a passer. No, no, no, no, no, man.
- 25:20Speaker 1: He's that guy, man. He's that guy.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I mean, that can't be real, people saying that. I
- 25:25Speaker 2: don't think anybody actually means that. if they've watched the
- 25:29Speaker 2: last few seasons. But the thing about, like, I have
- 25:32Speaker 2: a hard time really hesitant, and I know you're not
- 25:34Speaker 2: saying this specifically, but, like, the implication is, like, there's
- 25:36Speaker 2: something about the pressure of those moments that changes these players. And, like,
- 25:40Speaker 2: I get how different it feels you lead up to it,
- 25:43Speaker 2: but once you get out there, like, you're just kind
- 25:45Speaker 2: of playing. So it's hard to attribute it to anything
- 25:48Speaker 2: else for Lamar because it's just weird and there's enough
- 25:52Speaker 2: games now where it hasn't worked out. But I think
- 25:54Speaker 2: there's one thing to point to is, He bounced back
- 25:57Speaker 2: because you could say he was unglued in the first half.
- 26:00Speaker 2: He bounced back. I think Josh Allen is different because
- 26:02Speaker 2: he's had so many of these games in the playoffs
- 26:05Speaker 2: where we're like, hey, yeah, he played well enough to win.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson has, I mean, undoubtedly had fewer of those.
- 26:12Speaker 2: But that's where I'm not moved by that argument because
- 26:15Speaker 2: generally I don't believe that there's some big difference in
- 26:20Speaker 2: the same way that in basketball there's some big difference.
- 26:22Speaker 2: But I guess there is.
- 26:24Speaker 1: To me, I just think no matter what it is
- 26:26Speaker 1: we're talking about or where it is, some people rattle
- 26:28Speaker 1: and some people don't. If we take it down from
- 26:32Speaker 1: the level of excellence, it is very clear that Sam
- 26:35Speaker 1: Darnold rattles. We saw that happen two games in a row.
- 26:40Speaker 1: That team went 14-3 last year and you came away
- 26:45Speaker 1: from it like, yeah, I can't wait with that guy.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Some dudes, those moments, I think Tennis, for me, is
- 26:54Speaker 1: the fun example to use because since it's an individual sport,
- 26:58Speaker 1: as happens in golf, we're more forgiving of when people
- 27:01Speaker 1: have these moments and they come unglued. It happens. Everybody
- 27:04Speaker 1: is capable of that thing happening. And for some people,
- 27:06Speaker 1: they get out there, and no matter what the thing is,
- 27:09Speaker 1: they shake it off, and they're all good. We've all
- 27:11Speaker 1: done television with people before who get out there, and
- 27:15Speaker 1: it gets them. And for whatever reason, they can't get
- 27:17Speaker 1: themselves out of it. And so the problem with the
- 27:20Speaker 1: playoffs is even if... You ultimately shake it off. All
- 27:24Speaker 1: the minutes is precious. You know what I mean? And
- 27:27Speaker 1: like you were only caught up for eight minutes of
- 27:29Speaker 1: game action. Well, unfortunately, brother, that might have been too long.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I guess that second half looked like the Lamar that
- 27:39Speaker 2: we see in the regular season.
- 27:41Speaker 1: 100%. It didn't look like.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And that is not much. It's the smallest of small
- 27:45Speaker 2: sample sizes. But if we're talking about this as if–
- 27:49Speaker 2: and I am completely– believe that there's some things that
- 27:52Speaker 2: we can't explain and we don't understand as much as
- 27:55Speaker 2: I think the, the statistics try to explain and understand everything.
- 27:59Speaker 2: So if I'm to accept that there's, that this is
- 28:03Speaker 2: a psychological block in some way, then I think that
- 28:08Speaker 2: second half would feel good because it felt like he
- 28:12Speaker 2: did the most difficult thing. It's not only to play
- 28:14Speaker 2: well in that moment is to play shitty in that
- 28:18Speaker 2: moment and then play well in that moment.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Like, I thought it was... To me, even watching it,
- 28:23Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this is the most encouraging thing
- 28:25Speaker 1: that can happen outside of a win. Mm-hmm.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Right?
- 28:27Speaker 1: Like, okay, this happened. All right, we're going to have
- 28:28Speaker 1: to shake this off. Like, when you reach a place,
- 28:31Speaker 1: no matter what this is, to tell yourself that you
- 28:32Speaker 1: were bigger than the last mistake that you made and
- 28:35Speaker 1: that that does not matter. And I felt like in
- 28:37Speaker 1: that game, he didn't play well in the first half,
- 28:38Speaker 1: but I didn't feel like he came apart. Like, I
- 28:41Speaker 1: didn't feel like the loss of composure had taken place
- 28:43Speaker 1: as it had in those other games. So to me, like,
- 28:45Speaker 1: that to me was what was huge.
- 28:48Speaker 2: But I also.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I know that if you are going to be a
- 28:52Speaker 1: two-time MVP, because we got this bad thing now because
- 28:55Speaker 1: we have access to so much data and so many statistics.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It's what happened that year that we gave the MVP
- 28:59Speaker 1: to Embiid instead of Jokic in the NBA. And it
- 29:03Speaker 1: became a matter of, well, if he's a three-time MVP,
- 29:06Speaker 1: then that means he's in the same rarefied air as
- 29:08Speaker 1: these people. Therefore, he does not belong in... We don't
- 29:11Speaker 1: think he belongs in this air. Therefore, we can't give
- 29:14Speaker 1: him the third MVP. And that's not how the logic works, right? Like...
- 29:19Speaker 1: Tim Lincecum and Johan Santana have won two Cy Young Awards.
- 29:23Speaker 1: They're not going to go to the Hall of Fame.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Like it happens like that sometimes. Like this could perhaps
- 29:28Speaker 1: be some kind of statistical anomaly. OK. Not the biggest
- 29:31Speaker 1: deal in the world. Right. Lamar Jackson is a two-plus
- 29:36Speaker 1: MVP type. He will then be evaluated against all the
- 29:40Speaker 1: other people who have two-plus MVPs. He always will. And
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think eventually they'll get it done. It's just funny
- 29:49Speaker 1: because in the meantime, these boys can't even beat the Chiefs.
- 29:52Speaker 1: All the boys that we talk about.
- 29:54Speaker 2: That is true.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Only Joe Burrow over there being like, well, you know,
- 29:58Speaker 1: that one time.
- 30:00Speaker 2: And it's it's funny I um I re-watched that game
- 30:03Speaker 2: a couple seasons ago and Joe Burrow tried to give
- 30:08Speaker 2: it away it's just it's just and so like we
- 30:10Speaker 2: did we spent a lot of time with Josh on
- 30:11Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson and like Josh Allen obviously has these incredible
- 30:15Speaker 2: games and could have beaten it in a similar way
- 30:17Speaker 2: that the Ravens could have beaten the Bills if the
- 30:20Speaker 2: tat if the tight end caught the ball the Chiefs
- 30:22Speaker 2: or the Bills could have beaten the Chiefs if their
- 30:24Speaker 2: tight end caught the ball so like we don't have
- 30:27Speaker 2: those same postseason questions about Josh Allen because he's risen
- 30:30Speaker 2: to those moments in a way that is, we can
- 30:33Speaker 2: obviously with eyes say like, all right, well, any reason
- 30:36Speaker 2: why it doesn't happen is not because of him. I
- 30:39Speaker 2: will say this about the Joe Burrow game that, that
- 30:42Speaker 2: anyone who's making the argument that he's in the neighborhood
- 30:44Speaker 2: with these other guys is those games are decided by
- 30:49Speaker 2: such slim margins. And that man hit a linebacker in
- 30:52Speaker 2: the chest and the most pivotal drive of the game.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Like I get, That the linebacker dropped the ball and
- 30:58Speaker 2: what he did after that was great. And then what
- 30:59Speaker 2: he did in the Super Bowl was awesome. But to
- 31:02Speaker 2: that point, we decide such big ranking and opinion decisions
- 31:10Speaker 2: on such random things. Because again, Charlie got some heat
- 31:14Speaker 2: last week for doing on my show. He made a joke,
- 31:17Speaker 2: but it's kind of true. It's like how the quarterback
- 31:19Speaker 2: rankings are really just tight end rankings. because Kelsey had
- 31:24Speaker 2: a great playoffs that made Mahomes look good, and Mark
- 31:27Speaker 2: Andrews dropped that pass, and the Bills tied in. Which
- 31:30Speaker 2: one was it? I think it was.
- 31:31Speaker 1: It was Kincaid.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Kincaid dropped that pass. It's like, if Andrews catches that pass,
- 31:38Speaker 2: Lamar might be a Super Bowl champion and win the top.
- 31:40Speaker 2: If Kincaid, same thing, whatever, if Kelsey doesn't work out.
- 31:44Speaker 2: But it's just funny, because... We use that thing for
- 31:48Speaker 2: Burrow as a deciding factor all the time. It's like,
- 31:50Speaker 2: but he beat him. He got to a Super Bowl.
- 31:53Speaker 2: You go back through and see some of the mistakes
- 31:55Speaker 2: that could have kept him out of it. And same
- 31:56Speaker 2: thing goes the other way.
- 31:57Speaker 1: All right. We're going to chill for a minute. Come back.

- 35:07Speaker 1: back with Dominique Fosworth. This will be my ninth football
- 35:11Speaker 1: season in New York City. And yes, I paid the
- 35:14Speaker 1: money for the package to watch all the games, but
- 35:16Speaker 1: it's still cool to just have the games on your
- 35:18Speaker 1: regular television. You know what I'm saying? And living here
- 35:21Speaker 1: has been awful because you don't have just one bad team,
- 35:23Speaker 1: but you also have two bad teams. that are occupying
- 35:27Speaker 1: your television space. However, I feel like, I don't know
- 35:31Speaker 1: what the Jets are gonna be this year, right? They
- 35:33Speaker 1: switched out Aaron Rodgers for Justin Fields and they will
- 35:36Speaker 1: play against the Steelers, put a pin in that, we'll
- 35:38Speaker 1: talk about it. But I have to say, I am
- 35:41Speaker 1: very curious to watch these New York Giants play. If
- 35:44Speaker 1: for no other reason then, they gonna be getting after
- 35:48Speaker 1: the quarterback. I don't know if they gonna be able
- 35:51Speaker 1: to score no points. But, man, you do not want
- 35:54Speaker 1: to get third and long against those boys.
- 35:57Speaker 2: That is true. I mean, there are going to be
- 36:00Speaker 2: a lot of first down runs against them. I think
- 36:03Speaker 2: we're going to try to get something short passes. Like,
- 36:06Speaker 2: you don't want to be in third and eight, third
- 36:08Speaker 2: and nine. I think you just automatically, like, auto punt
- 36:11Speaker 2: because they all look ridiculously talented. It's stupid. And you
- 36:16Speaker 2: better counter your quarterback to score some points early so
- 36:19Speaker 2: that you can maintain a two-way go. Can you imagine
- 36:22Speaker 2: being down 14 at the half? You come against them.
- 36:25Speaker 2: You come on out and like, ah.
- 36:29Speaker 1: That Abdul Carter look like he the real-a-dilla.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Pin them ears back. That's what they say. I don't
- 36:35Speaker 2: even know what that is referenced to. But you go
- 36:37Speaker 2: ahead and pin them back. Just go ahead and pin
- 36:40Speaker 2: them things back because they are coming. But, yeah, I
- 36:45Speaker 2: hope it works out for them, though, because that– That offense,
- 36:50Speaker 2: I think, has obviously much bigger question marks. They got
- 36:53Speaker 2: neighbors who could be a problem, or not could be,
- 36:55Speaker 2: who is a problem.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Well, he could be another problem if they don't throw
- 36:59Speaker 1: the damn ball. I've seen this particular model of wide
- 37:03Speaker 1: receiver before. I know how that goes when you waste them.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Yeah, they gonna throw him the ball. What else they
- 37:09Speaker 2: gonna do with the football? Right? There's not an embarrassment
- 37:17Speaker 2: of options for that team. and the coaches with their
- 37:20Speaker 2: back against the wall. I don't know. I'm not standing
- 37:23Speaker 2: for any coaches or GMs, but I generally feel like
- 37:27Speaker 2: what the Giants have done to a lot of their
- 37:31Speaker 2: high-profile choices, like the draft pick, the quarterback draft picks,
- 37:35Speaker 2: and some of their other draft picks, honestly, and their
- 37:38Speaker 2: coach and general manager put them in positions where they
- 37:42Speaker 2: can't win. Like, this is... I think Mara said in
- 37:46Speaker 2: the offseason that he's going to be keeping a close eye. Like,
- 37:48Speaker 2: they asked if his coach was on a hot seat,
- 37:51Speaker 2: the owner of the team. He's like, I'm going to
- 37:52Speaker 2: be keeping a close eye. Like, don't. You are creating
- 37:55Speaker 2: an extra distraction and problem for your team that doesn't
- 37:58Speaker 2: have to be there. So, I don't know.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Second generation. Second generation. It's that next generation owner. Faith. They,
- 38:06Speaker 1: that's the kind of, that's the guy that got to
- 38:08Speaker 1: make it seem like you're doing something right. For people
- 38:11Speaker 1: who don't know New York, the Maris and the Tishes
- 38:13Speaker 1: that own these teams, man, they real classy. Like they, they,
- 38:16Speaker 1: they super, that Tish money all over this city. Everywhere
- 38:19Speaker 1: you go, they got something somewhere, right? And so that
- 38:23Speaker 1: second generation, that level of second generation money, I can
- 38:26Speaker 1: tell you, that young man, well, he ain't young, but
- 38:28Speaker 1: I can tell right now, he ain't never really been
- 38:31Speaker 1: good at nothing. They get a football team to the
- 38:33Speaker 1: kid that can't do nothing because how could it possibly fail?
- 38:36Speaker 1: They just sold 10% of that team for a billion dollars.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Did you see who they sold it to? Uh-uh. The
- 38:44Speaker 1: widow of one of them Koch brothers. Oh, sheesh. yeah
- 38:49Speaker 1: it's happening.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Um who else got that money yeah but but.
- 38:54Speaker 1: That but here's the thing that means the giants were
- 38:56Speaker 1: 10 billion dollars and if the giants were 10 billion
- 38:58Speaker 1: dollars jerry jones down there being like yeah tell me
- 39:00Speaker 1: how i don't know what i'm doing okay um but
- 39:04Speaker 1: no they gonna be getting at it they play against
- 39:06Speaker 1: washington who i think is built for regression and what
- 39:09Speaker 1: i think is interesting about washington is that There is
- 39:11Speaker 1: typically a Cliff Kingsbury regression during a season, and that
- 39:15Speaker 1: did not happen this year. And so I am very
- 39:17Speaker 1: curious what happens now that everybody's got a year of
- 39:19Speaker 1: film on him, year of film on the quarterback. What
- 39:21Speaker 1: are they going to do?
- 39:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I get all the signs, the fourth
- 39:25Speaker 2: down situation and the close games. And obviously the talent
- 39:28Speaker 2: on this team was not. what um it's not commensurate
- 39:33Speaker 2: with a conference final appearance.
- 39:34Speaker 1: And catching the best team in the nfl when they
- 39:36Speaker 1: were simply depleted by injuries that come from all their
- 39:39Speaker 1: hard work finally working against them on a john henry
- 39:41Speaker 1: type of situation but you go ahead and finish what
- 39:43Speaker 1: you was talking about bro yeah.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Um yeah they're yours they're yours because because they're yours
- 39:50Speaker 2: um yeah that all is true however some people are
- 39:58Speaker 2: regression proof and there's a possibility and they've made a
- 40:02Speaker 2: addition to this team to make the team better i
- 40:05Speaker 2: i don't know how much better the team actually has
- 40:07Speaker 2: gotten from these additions but the question is is jayden
- 40:12Speaker 2: daniels better which is reasonable to assume. And of course
- 40:16Speaker 2: he could take a step back as some quarterbacks do
- 40:18Speaker 2: in their second year, but he could also repeat or
- 40:21Speaker 2: he could also perform even better than he did last year.
- 40:24Speaker 2: And these, those one score games that could go the
- 40:28Speaker 2: other way this year, they won't be one score game.
- 40:30Speaker 2: And those fourth down conversions that you might need to
- 40:35Speaker 2: convert that you're not going to convert at a hundred
- 40:37Speaker 2: percent rate next year. You may not even see that
- 40:40Speaker 2: fourth down if you're dealing with a different level quarterback.
- 40:42Speaker 2: And also like, it's possible that the fourth down, like
- 40:46Speaker 2: some teams, they say red zone is a, is an
- 40:48Speaker 2: area where like, it kind of goes up, up and
- 40:50Speaker 2: down and fluctuates. It's not necessarily a determining factor of
- 40:53Speaker 2: how good your team is. There's some teams that just
- 40:55Speaker 2: good at the red zone. Like the numbers over the
- 40:57Speaker 2: history of Cam Newton in the red zone, pretty damn good.
- 40:59Speaker 2: There's some players who can break the regression. And I
- 41:02Speaker 2: think it's possible that Jane dance is that guy.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Now I brought up the jets and the Steelers. The
- 41:11Speaker 1: Steelers have some, 2011 or 12 Philadelphia Eagles, it feel
- 41:17Speaker 1: like a dream team elements to them, right? Like making
- 41:20Speaker 1: the trade to get Jalen Ramsey, for example, sort of
- 41:22Speaker 1: thing that they typically don't do. They made the move
- 41:27Speaker 1: to get DJ Metcalf. They did a lot of things
- 41:30Speaker 1: to get a lot cracking, but they also went and
- 41:33Speaker 1: got a very old man to play quarterback. And I
- 41:37Speaker 1: don't know what to make of this team because I'm
- 41:40Speaker 1: not sure what exactly Aaron Rodgers has left.
- 41:44Speaker 2: That's, that's, that's the question. I think the, you can
- 41:48Speaker 2: make the argument that a year removed from the Achilles
- 41:50Speaker 2: is even better, which like not the argument, like that's
- 41:52Speaker 2: a true thing that most people who recover from that
- 41:55Speaker 2: surgery would, would say, but he also is a year
- 41:59Speaker 2: older and this offense looks nothing like the offenses that
- 42:03Speaker 2: he's had success in. And so it may not quite
- 42:07Speaker 2: pan out the way that they want it to. And I,
- 42:11Speaker 2: The expectations for this team are not as high as
- 42:13Speaker 2: they were for that Eagles dream team. And expectations for
- 42:17Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers aren't that high. But the problem is the patience.
- 42:22Speaker 2: It feels like it's run out, at least for the fans,
- 42:25Speaker 2: probably not for the ownership. But around that team, the
- 42:29Speaker 2: expectations are higher than I think they should be. Because
- 42:33Speaker 2: they're like, we need a playoff win. I don't care
- 42:37Speaker 2: if we make it to the playoffs. I don't care
- 42:39Speaker 2: if we're over 500. We need a playoff win. And
- 42:42Speaker 2: so whatever version of Aaron Rodgers you think you're going
- 42:46Speaker 2: to get, it's not going to be the top tier
- 42:48Speaker 2: version of Aaron Rodgers. And to get a playoff win
- 42:50Speaker 2: in the AFC, especially if you don't win the division,
- 42:53Speaker 2: which I don't think we think they're going to beat
- 42:55Speaker 2: the Ravens for, you're going to have to beat the Ravens.
- 43:00Speaker 2: You're going to have to beat the Josh Allen. You're
- 43:02Speaker 2: going to have to beat the Patrick Mahomes. Like that
- 43:05Speaker 2: is where is like, they might make the playoffs. They
- 43:09Speaker 2: might have a great year. They might not. But if
- 43:11Speaker 2: they do, the bar is still going to have to
- 43:14Speaker 2: be to get past one of these guys, Joe Burrow.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Like you had to get past one of those guys.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I think the fans are perfectly reasonable to be like, Hey,
- 43:26Speaker 1: we ain't want to play off game with you since
- 43:29Speaker 1: there's a president got to be black for us to
- 43:30Speaker 1: win games, brother. Is that what it is? Cause that
- 43:33Speaker 1: ain't never going to happen again. You know what I'm saying? Like, like,
- 43:38Speaker 1: is that what we got to do? Is that what
- 43:39Speaker 1: we got to do? Oh, okay. But I don't know
- 43:42Speaker 1: exactly how noisy they're going to get. I think they're
- 43:44Speaker 1: going to be the second best team in that division.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Cause I think Cincinnati is just going to give up
- 43:48Speaker 1: a zillion points. I just don't see any way around
- 43:51Speaker 1: them giving up zillions and zillions of points. And then
- 43:54Speaker 1: the Browns are beginning of the quarterback carousel that will
- 43:57Speaker 1: spin all year long. Joe Flacco might be out of
- 44:01Speaker 1: the game with what they call that osteoporosis. One of
- 44:04Speaker 1: them other old people, you know, ailments.
- 44:09Speaker 2: And the quarterback carousel, I guess this goes without saying,
- 44:12Speaker 2: but it's not because there normally isn't a carousel if
- 44:15Speaker 2: it's filled with like really promising quarterbacks. I was going
- 44:20Speaker 2: to say that the carousel is not stopped with like
- 44:25Speaker 2: the type of guys. But yeah, that tends to be
- 44:27Speaker 2: the case. There wouldn't be a carousel. If there was
- 44:29Speaker 2: a guy over there that was, Oh yeah, that's him.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Now I want to ask you this. Cause I seen
- 44:34Speaker 1: you talk about this on your podcast. You have a
- 44:36Speaker 1: level of optimism about the Indianapolis Colts. That implies the
- 44:39Speaker 1: Daniel Jones is not their quarterback.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I have a level of optimism. I mean, I think
- 44:46Speaker 2: it's more about how difficult things were for him and
- 44:51Speaker 2: New York. I don't think that Daniel Jones is top
- 44:54Speaker 2: of the league quarterback. I don't think he's ever been
- 44:56Speaker 2: in a situation as good as he's in right now.
- 44:59Speaker 2: And I don't believe that that division, like it's the
- 45:05Speaker 2: Texans defense. The only thing I trust in that division
- 45:08Speaker 2: right now.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Not even the quarterback?
- 45:10Speaker 2: Oh, I trust the quarterback. I don't trust the offensive line.
- 45:15Speaker 2: The quarterback had a rough year last year and people
- 45:18Speaker 2: are arguing that he regressed. the regression was largely tied
- 45:22Speaker 2: to the fact that they couldn't keep them off of them, man.
- 45:25Speaker 2: They couldn't keep them off of.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Them. I just can't imagine my job being, all right,
- 45:31Speaker 1: you go backwards, everybody else is coming forwards, and you know,
- 45:35Speaker 1: figure some shit out right fast. Like, imagine somebody handing
- 45:38Speaker 1: you the pig game off the table at the breakfast place.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And you got to do that with people running at you.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Not just people.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:49Speaker 2: It's not just people. It's the, these, uh, six, three
- 45:53Speaker 2: to 80 hyper athletes that we talked about at the
- 45:56Speaker 2: top of the show. It's not just people. They trying
- 45:58Speaker 2: to hurt you.
- 45:59Speaker 1: And if they hit you, you better not drop the
- 46:02Speaker 1: peg guy.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Right?
- 46:05Speaker 1: Like that. I think that we've talked about this part before.
- 46:08Speaker 1: That's the most underrated thing is I got to go
- 46:11Speaker 1: through all of this. These cats be hitting me and
- 46:13Speaker 1: I can't drop what's in my hand.
- 46:17Speaker 2: I mean, it's, uh, The idea that you can perform
- 46:20Speaker 2: under that pressure and still make accurate throws by getting
- 46:23Speaker 2: hit in the chin while getting hit in the chin
- 46:26Speaker 2: is a trait that I don't think we look for
- 46:28Speaker 2: in quarterbacks, but it's something that's hugely valuable because we
- 46:32Speaker 2: ain't going to be able to pick them up all
- 46:33Speaker 2: the time.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Hey, man, where are you on this Bo Nix situation?
- 46:37Speaker 1: Because I'm going to need a little bit more, personally. Yeah.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I mean, isn't that how everyone feels?
- 46:46Speaker 1: I mean... There's a lot of belief. It takes nothing
- 46:48Speaker 1: for people to believe in a quarterback, boy. I feel
- 46:51Speaker 1: like he is in the Mac Jones class until proven otherwise.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I mean, I think we all recognize that the offensive
- 46:58Speaker 2: line is really good. The coach is really good. That
- 47:01Speaker 2: defense is insane. And what they asked of him was
- 47:05Speaker 2: not what you ask of. He didn't show the ability
- 47:11Speaker 2: to be a top-of-the-league quarterback, but it's also partially what
- 47:14Speaker 2: they asked of him. I think he did well in
- 47:16Speaker 2: fourth quarters. which you could argue means a lot more.
- 47:20Speaker 2: And we should take that in consideration, not just look
- 47:22Speaker 2: at the QBR and all of his raw stats. But
- 47:27Speaker 2: I think he's got to show you, for sure, has
- 47:29Speaker 2: to show you some more. I guess maybe Sean Payton
- 47:32Speaker 2: is fully bought in, but I would imagine an honest
- 47:35Speaker 2: observer is like, yeah, that was an incredible start. We're
- 47:40Speaker 2: going to need to take some steps, though, if we
- 47:42Speaker 2: want to go where we want to go.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Man, I said on Mina's podcast that I wasn't a
- 47:48Speaker 1: Bo Nicks believer, and boy, Denver, they all in, boy.
- 47:52Speaker 1: They are. They are. I guess they thirsty, man.
- 47:56Speaker 2: I love Denver.
- 47:59Speaker 1: That's right. That's you.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah. No, I love Denver.
- 48:01Speaker 3: It's great.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Yeah, there's something about the first city you play in.
- 48:07Speaker 2: It's a special experience. It's a good experience, man. Fresh
- 48:15Speaker 2: out of college.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I understand.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Mountaineer. Mountaineer.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Denver's an underrated city because it's the biggest city.
- 48:24Speaker 2: I don't know, like, the mile radius, but, like, it's
- 48:26Speaker 2: the biggest city in a real big radius. And so
- 48:30Speaker 2: all the states around there and all the cities around there, like,
- 48:34Speaker 2: they best and brightest go to Denver. Like, if they
- 48:37Speaker 2: not going to go to L.A., they going to go
- 48:39Speaker 2: to Denver. or Phoenix. So, that was a strong, strong town.
- 48:45Speaker 2: But anyway, I'll say all that to say. I'll say
- 48:48Speaker 2: all that to say. I forgot. Bo Nix, yeah. Oh, oh, oh.
- 48:55Speaker 2: I think that reasonable fans, like, you said they yours.
- 48:58Speaker 2: There's some things that you can't see clearly about your
- 49:01Speaker 2: team because you're so close to them.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't be attacking people about if they
- 49:04Speaker 1: say something about Jared Goff. You understand what I'm saying? Like,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I don't be doing that, but they thirstier. They much more,
- 49:11Speaker 1: I don't know how they thirstier than the day one
- 49:13Speaker 1: Lions fan like myself, but they thirsty for the glory
- 49:17Speaker 1: days of Jake Plummer. You know what I'm saying? I'm saying?
- 49:21Speaker 1: Because you played with Jake and Jay, right? I can't
- 49:25Speaker 1: think of playing for two more different human beings than
- 49:28Speaker 1: going from playing with Jake Plummer to playing with Jay Cutler.
- 49:32Speaker 2: I mean, it was Jay Cutler as a rookie, so.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It was like you, I don't know, you don't get
- 49:38Speaker 2: to fully know somebody, not completely comfortable. Well, I guess
- 49:41Speaker 2: Jay Cutler probably showed up feeling comfortable about everything. But
- 49:45Speaker 2: it was a little different experience. Like, Jay Plummer was,
- 49:48Speaker 2: I think, a little bit more of himself. So I
- 49:51Speaker 2: didn't get to know. I was surprised by the person
- 49:53Speaker 2: that Jay Cutler came. So that's how, as you can tell,
- 49:57Speaker 2: I didn't know him that well. We just was teammates.
- 50:00Speaker 1: On another day I will tell you well I think
- 50:03Speaker 1: I've already told you maybe I'll tell the audience one
- 50:05Speaker 1: day how Jay Cutler once inadvertently helped me make millions
- 50:09Speaker 1: of dollars thank you quite a tease.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Matt Ryan is that guy for me It wasn't inadvertent, though.
- 50:20Speaker 2: It was intentional.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Matt Ryan did it for you, boy, huh?
- 50:23Speaker 2: Appreciate you not being a bum. Appreciate you.
- 50:26Speaker 1: You said he threw that touchdown that first play, and
- 50:29Speaker 1: you was like, oh.
- 50:32Speaker 2: We might got us something here, man.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and let me tell you, the beauty of that
- 50:35Speaker 1: pass was you had a long time to enjoy it
- 50:37Speaker 1: and appreciate it, boy, because that was a classic Matt
- 50:40Speaker 1: Ryan pass, eh, man? Long as it get there, baby.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Ain't no hurry. Ain't no hurry. Just watch it go.
- 50:46Speaker 2: I think it was to Cenk, too. And he wasn't
- 50:49Speaker 2: a burner, but he took that bang eight to the crib.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Bang eight. Michael Irvin got people knowing about that bang eight.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Reminded me of that bang eight. Them boys ain't run
- 50:59Speaker 2: no plays. It reminds me. They ain't run no plays.
- 51:03Speaker 2: How come every single play look the same? It's ridiculous.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Bang eight.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
