Transcript
- 0:00Hey there and welcome back. I'm Dr. Hartung and
- 0:02you're listening to the Family Chiropractic Center
- 0:05podcast coming to you from right here in Robinson
- 0:07Township. Today we're talking about something
- 0:10I get asked about all the time. When should you
- 0:12actually see a chiropractor and what are the
- 0:15warning signs that something might be going on
- 0:18with your spine or your nervous system that you
- 0:20really shouldn't ignore? Here's the thing. A
- 0:23lot of people wait way too long. They think,
- 0:26oh, it'll go away on its own. And sometimes it
- 0:29does. But sometimes that little ache or that
- 0:31stiff neck in the morning is your body trying
- 0:34to tell you something. And the sooner you listen,
- 0:37the easier it is to help you. So let's walk through
- 0:40some of the big ones. The signs that, in my experience,
- 0:45really do mean it's time to come in and get checked
- 0:48out. First up, and this is probably the most
- 0:51common one I see, is pain that just keeps coming
- 0:55back. You tweak your back, you rest for a few
- 0:58days, it feels better, then a few weeks later
- 1:02it's back again, then again. That cycle is really
- 1:05important to pay attention to. Recurring pain
- 1:08usually means there's an underlying issue with
- 1:11how your spine is moving or how it's aligned
- 1:14that isn't getting addressed. Resting helps the
- 1:18inflammation calm down. but it doesn't fix the
- 1:21root cause. That's where chiropractic care comes
- 1:24in. Now here's something a lot of people don't
- 1:26connect to their spine. Headaches. Especially
- 1:29headaches that start at the base of your skull
- 1:32and work their way up, or headaches that seem
- 1:35to come on after a long day at a desk. A significant
- 1:40number of headaches are actually linked to tension
- 1:43and restriction in the neck. The joints up there,
- 1:46when they're not moving the way they should,
- 1:49can refer pain right into your head. I've had
- 1:53so many patients come in for neck pain and mention,
- 1:57almost as an afterthought, that their headaches
- 2:00went away too. It's one of those things that
- 2:02genuinely surprises people. Another big one,
- 2:05and please don't brush this off, is any kind
- 2:08of tingling, numbness, or weakness going down
- 2:11your arm or your leg. That kind of symptom can
- 2:15mean a nerve is being compressed or irritated
- 2:18somewhere along the spine. It doesn't always
- 2:21mean something serious, but it absolutely means
- 2:24you need to get evaluated. Don't wait on that
- 2:26one. Get it checked. And then there's posture.
- 2:29I know. I know. You've heard it before. But here's
- 2:32what's interesting. When your posture starts
- 2:34to change, when your head drifts forward, when
- 2:37one shoulder sits higher than the other, when
- 2:40you notice you're leaning to one side without
- 2:43realizing it, That's often a sign that your spine
- 2:47is compensating for something. Your body is incredibly
- 2:51smart. It'll adapt and shift to protect itself.
- 2:55But over time, those compensations create their
- 2:58own problems. And that's when people start feeling
- 3:01pain in places they didn't expect. One more,
- 3:04and this one catches people off guard. If you
- 3:07feel like you just can't get comfortable, standing
- 3:10hurts, sitting hurts, lying down hurts. or if
- 3:13you notice that you're moving differently to
- 3:15avoid pain like favoring one side when you walk
- 3:19or turning your whole body instead of just your
- 3:22neck. Those movement patterns are worth paying
- 3:25attention to. So what can you do right now today?
- 3:28start paying attention to your body. Notice if
- 3:31your pain is getting better, staying the same,
- 3:34or getting worse over time. Notice if it's showing
- 3:37up more often. Gentle movement, staying hydrated,
- 3:41and not sitting for hours without getting up
- 3:44are all simple things that support a healthier
- 3:48spine. But if any of what I described today sounds
- 3:52familiar, I really want to encourage you to come
- 3:54in and let us take a look. Getting evaluated
- 3:58doesn't mean you're committing to anything. It
- 4:01just means you'll have a clearer picture of what's
- 4:04going on and what your options are. That's always
- 4:08a good thing. We are here for you at Family Chiropractic
- 4:11Center in Robinson Township. Give us a call,
- 4:15stop by, or visit our website to schedule a time
- 4:18to come in. My team and I would love to meet
