- 1:29Speaker 6: Yes?
- 1:29Speaker 7: I am.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Bad news is Toy.
- 1:33Speaker 5: Couldn't make it, so Wells is gonna fill in. We're

- 2:00Speaker 5: so excited to you.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Know, share some of my journey.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Are this is weird our journey.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Tory spelling, and answer any questions that you have. So
- 2:12Speaker 2: just happy to be here.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Hi, listen, I'm sad that Tory is not here, but
- 2:17Speaker 6: I'm so freakingly excited because I grew up in the nineties.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And wait, what year were you born?
- 2:24Speaker 6: Nineteen eighty four? Okay, I watched.
- 2:27Speaker 8: I didn't see that.
- 2:28Speaker 6: I just look good, all right, Like you don't understand
- 2:32Speaker 6: like I grew up on Nan A two and O
- 2:35Speaker 6: on Melrose Place, say by the bell Fresh Prince, And
- 2:43Speaker 6: so I'm so excited, and I know I want to
- 2:45Speaker 6: talk about like your podcast and like your side projects,
- 2:48Speaker 6: but I have to ask some questions about Nana two
- 2:51Speaker 6: and Oh is that okay?
- 2:53Speaker 9: Hi?
- 2:54Speaker 8: Wait?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Hello? Well there's people up there?
- 2:57Speaker 8: Hello?
- 2:59Speaker 2: How is it up there?
- 3:01Speaker 8: You like?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Okay?
- 3:02Speaker 8: Good?
- 3:02Speaker 2: You happy?
- 3:03Speaker 5: Okay?
- 3:05Speaker 6: Okay. When did you start working on the show?
- 3:10Speaker 8: Like?
- 3:10Speaker 6: How old were you when you started doing nine on
- 3:12Speaker 6: two and nine?
- 3:13Speaker 2: I think I was seventeen.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I know I had my driver's license, so I was
- 3:18Speaker 5: either sixteen or seventeen.
- 3:19Speaker 6: But that's a weird thing. So you're in high school
- 3:22Speaker 6: playing a high schooler.
- 3:24Speaker 5: I was not in high school. I left high school
- 3:29Speaker 5: to pursue a dream of acting, which I didn't even have.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I just stumbled into it. And then working and having
- 3:37Speaker 5: school at the same time wasn't as easy as it.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Needed to be.
- 3:40Speaker 5: So I got my ged and started working adult hours
- 3:44Speaker 5: and paying adult bills real early.
- 3:47Speaker 6: So did you ever like go to prom or like
- 3:51Speaker 6: Sadie Howkins dances? Like did you do like normal.
- 3:53Speaker 2: High school stuff? I did on TV?
- 3:55Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Yeah, But I feel like I really experienced all that
- 3:59Speaker 5: I needed to experience from those interactions.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And they were you know.
- 4:05Speaker 5: I mean, so often when you go to high school,
- 4:08Speaker 5: you don't stay in touch with the people that you
- 4:10Speaker 5: were in school with. But I have been given the
- 4:13Speaker 5: great opportunity to stay in touch with all the people
- 4:16Speaker 5: that I went to high school with and to college with.
- 4:19Speaker 5: So I feel, you know, really blessed by that.
- 4:22Speaker 6: When you look back on that time. What is like
- 4:26Speaker 6: your fondest memory of doing that show?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Gosh? Or do you like?
- 4:33Speaker 6: So my wife is was on Modern Family and we'll
- 4:36Speaker 6: be watching the show and she'll go, I have no
- 4:39Speaker 6: recollection of doing this, and I wonder if you have
- 4:42Speaker 6: that too, kinda yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Because there was so much There's always so much going on,
- 4:47Speaker 5: and there's you meet so many people, there's so much
- 4:50Speaker 5: in your head at all times that it's really hard
- 4:52Speaker 5: to remember everything, all the little things. But that is
- 4:57Speaker 5: the coolest part. And jump right into the nine to
- 5:00Speaker 5: an OG real quick. Yeah, Tory and I do a
- 5:03Speaker 5: podcast called nine O two on OMG.
- 5:04Speaker 2: That's on iHeart, and we.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Are watching the show back from the very beginning, the first.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Episode, all the way through what will be.
- 5:15Speaker 5: The ten seasons of the show. And yes, that's right,
- 5:18Speaker 5: I Heart.
- 5:19Speaker 2: You will be picking it up. We'll send you on
- 5:22Speaker 2: right now. We're on five okay, wow.
- 5:25Speaker 5: But we we're watching it for the first time and
- 5:29Speaker 5: it's it's enlightening. It's because I don't remember. I never
- 5:33Speaker 5: watched it. I was always busy making it. We had
- 5:36Speaker 5: these crazy, insane hours that we worked, and there was
- 5:40Speaker 5: never time to sit down in front of the TV.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Not to mention, I had a baby at twenty three,
- 5:45Speaker 5: so I was had a lot of balls in there.
- 5:48Speaker 5: But now going back and watching the show, it has
- 5:51Speaker 5: given me just a new respect, a new.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Love for it.
- 5:55Speaker 5: I swear to you, I am a fan of the
- 5:58Speaker 5: show now, like I'm watching from fan eyes, and I
- 6:02Speaker 5: get it, like I get why people love the show
- 6:04Speaker 5: so much, and I get why it was so important
- 6:07Speaker 5: to them, because when you watch it, we watch it
- 6:09Speaker 5: week by week, and that's how you used to watch television,
- 6:11Speaker 5: if you guys, remember you had to be in front
- 6:14Speaker 5: of the TV of whatever night it was, at whatever
- 6:16Speaker 5: time it was. Yeah, and now through we don't have
- 6:21Speaker 5: to do that anymore. But that makes it more exciting
- 6:23Speaker 5: and somehow more meaningful. And I'm just really loving watching
- 6:27Speaker 5: it and getting to know that girl that played Kelly
- 6:31Speaker 5: Taylor and getting to look at her me through such
- 6:39Speaker 5: a different lens and have a deeper understanding and appreciation
- 6:42Speaker 5: for even myself and all those experiences that I.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Got to have.
- 6:46Speaker 6: I wonder if there was a character arc while you
- 6:51Speaker 6: were doing it that you didn't love, But now watching back,
- 6:54Speaker 6: you're grateful for.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Well, I don't.
- 7:01Speaker 10: Well.
- 7:01Speaker 5: For years, I thought that I was a bad person
- 7:06Speaker 5: via Kelly because I stole Brenda's boyfriend Dylan. But I didn't.
- 7:11Speaker 5: It didn't happen that way. They were broken up and she.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Was away, they were on a break.
- 7:18Speaker 5: So I've given my I've forgiven myself slash Kelly for that.
- 7:24Speaker 6: Now are there storylines that never happened that you wish had?
- 7:29Speaker 6: Looking back?
- 7:30Speaker 5: I think that there is no storyline that we didn't
- 7:33Speaker 5: do in those ten years. Specifically, my character was somehow
- 7:40Speaker 5: the butt of all the drama. She was, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 5: shot in the parking lot, she was in a cult,
- 7:46Speaker 5: she had a lesbian stalker, almost raped, burned in a fire.
- 7:52Speaker 2: There's so many and look at you today.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I made it proof that you can do anything, you
- 7:57Speaker 5: can get through anything.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Yeah, So you guys are watching the show back in
- 8:02Speaker 6: real time, the listeners are watching it with you. I
- 8:06Speaker 6: imagine you're having guests from the show come on as
- 8:09Speaker 6: well and have their unique take and experience from it.
- 8:13Speaker 6: What's that like kind of like re reconnecting with some
- 8:18Speaker 6: of these friends that you had back then.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Well, we've been mostly focusing on our supporting cast members
- 8:24Speaker 5: because the show really launched so many young actors' careers
- 8:28Speaker 5: back in the nineties, and so we're going back and
- 8:31Speaker 5: touching base with a lot of the people that were
- 8:32Speaker 5: the supporting cast members. And that's really fun because they
- 8:37Speaker 5: came into that experience, like you know, with just flabbergasted
- 8:43Speaker 5: by getting to be on the show, and it was
- 8:44Speaker 5: such a hit and we were in it, so it
- 8:47Speaker 5: didn't feel that way to us. But now being able
- 8:49Speaker 5: to hear their stories of their experiences of being on
- 8:52Speaker 5: the show, it's pretty cool. And getting to know them
- 8:57Speaker 5: now as adults, you know. I mean, it's just a
- 9:01Speaker 5: different ballgame.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Who is the least like their character from the show
- 9:07Speaker 6: in real.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Like their character? You know what.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Honestly, in the very beginning of the show, if you
- 9:12Speaker 5: guys are fans of the show, you know that the
- 9:14Speaker 5: show started.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Out very stereotypical.
- 9:17Speaker 5: The characters were kind of one dimensional, and everybody starved
- 9:19Speaker 5: a purpose. My character, in particular, was the bitch from
- 9:22Speaker 5: Beverly Hills with a nose job of the BMW, and
- 9:26Speaker 5: that's how they saw this character. But as the writers
- 9:30Speaker 5: got to know each of us actors individually and we
- 9:33Speaker 5: spent a lot of time together, they started to do
- 9:37Speaker 5: something that was pretty ingenious, which was bringing in so
- 9:42Speaker 5: much of who we were personally as humans into those
- 9:46Speaker 5: characters and sort of threading those fibers into the characters.
- 9:50Speaker 5: And I think in doing that, the reason that I
- 9:52Speaker 5: feel it was so genius was because it made these
- 9:55Speaker 5: characters so relatable to everybody out there watching it, whether
- 10:00Speaker 5: they were from Beverly Hills or whether they were from
- 10:03Speaker 5: you know, the Ukraine or wherever. There was fans everywhere
- 10:08Speaker 5: and so and also, this was the first time that
- 10:12Speaker 5: people out there had the chance to see what living
- 10:16Speaker 5: in Beverly Hills was like.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And we didn't have the Internet.
- 10:19Speaker 5: Then there was no let me google it, you know,
- 10:22Speaker 5: they didn't they didn't know what it looked like. So
- 10:24Speaker 5: we got to take them into this exclusive, you know, glitzy,
- 10:28Speaker 5: glamorous world for the very first time, and it.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Was just it just sucked you in.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Listen. I could talk to you about this show like
- 10:35Speaker 6: all night long, but I know that there are other speakers,
- 10:39Speaker 6: so I think that you know, this whole night is
- 10:42Speaker 6: about talking about, you know, side hustles and small businesses,
- 10:48Speaker 6: and you've you've taken this this career that started on
- 10:53Speaker 6: this wildly successful show that was a cult phenomenon, and
- 10:59Speaker 6: then you've been able to kind of like build this
- 11:00Speaker 6: kind of crazy brand from it. So I wanted to
- 11:04Speaker 6: talk about the BFF Collection if we could.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's interesting because we I didn't ever think,
- 11:13Speaker 5: as a young actress, or even a middle aged actress,
- 11:19Speaker 5: that I could build my own brand and do something else.
- 11:24Speaker 2: You know, I think it hasn't.
- 11:26Speaker 5: It wasn't until honestly, I was in my late forties
- 11:29Speaker 5: early fifties, I'm fifty one now that my eyes kind
- 11:33Speaker 5: of pivoted and my reality sort of shifted and I
- 11:36Speaker 5: saw all the things that were that I could do
- 11:40Speaker 5: other than acting. And thank god, now with the strikes
- 11:44Speaker 5: and you know, all the things that have happened, it's
- 11:47Speaker 5: getting work is not as easy as it used to
- 11:49Speaker 5: be as an actor. So pivoting has been really good
- 11:52Speaker 5: for me. But I think I didn't never think at
- 11:55Speaker 5: fifty one that I would be having my own small
- 11:58Speaker 5: business with my best friend, starting up my own a
- 12:03Speaker 5: separate small business that I'm doing right now, creating a
- 12:06Speaker 5: brand of my very own, and just to know that,
- 12:10Speaker 5: you know, it's never too late to sort of do
- 12:14Speaker 5: what you always wanted to do. Because I'm an idea person.
- 12:18Speaker 5: I have these embarrassing whiteboards.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Up on my wall in my office.
- 12:24Speaker 5: I don't like people to see them because they're embarrassing
- 12:26Speaker 5: because it's all my like my genius idea is like
- 12:29Speaker 5: listed out and some of them aren't so genius. But
- 12:32Speaker 5: I stare at them all the time. And I've spent
- 12:34Speaker 5: many years thinking what am I, how am I going
- 12:36Speaker 5: to what am I?
- 12:37Speaker 2: How am I going to make this happen?
- 12:38Speaker 5: Or I can't do this, or letting all those voices
- 12:41Speaker 5: inside my head keep me from just trying, you know.
- 12:44Speaker 5: And it was basically just fear. And there was something
- 12:47Speaker 5: about turning fifty to fifty one that I just decided
- 12:52Speaker 5: that I wasn't going to be afraid anymore because I
- 12:54Speaker 5: don't have much time left and I just wanted to
- 12:57Speaker 5: go for it, you know.
- 12:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 5: So brought Tory and I to this sort of the
- 13:02Speaker 5: same place of loving working together and creating projects that
- 13:06Speaker 5: we could do together, and creating a brand that we
- 13:10Speaker 5: felt would speak to a lot of our fan base,
- 13:13Speaker 5: which is women our age, some younger, some older, and
- 13:18Speaker 5: we partnered with QVC and we brought to life this cute,
- 13:24Speaker 5: well brand called the BFF Collection, and we've just had
- 13:27Speaker 5: such a great time creating these products.
- 13:29Speaker 2: There are some of our products up here.
- 13:32Speaker 6: I know everything up here except the chairs right now.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 5: I heard as our number one fan, best customer ever,
- 13:39Speaker 5: And we have a lot of our products up here
- 13:42Speaker 5: because we're very proud of them. And it's been doing
- 13:45Speaker 5: really well on QBC and the partnership's going really well.
- 13:48Speaker 5: We had three drops in twenty twenty three. January was
- 13:53Speaker 5: our debut. We came out with our home decore line,
- 13:57Speaker 5: which was the Ottomans, the bar Card, the Hurricanes, the Trunk,
- 14:03Speaker 5: all kinds.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Of things like that.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Then in July we did a big event for QBC
- 14:08Speaker 5: their Christmas in July.
- 14:10Speaker 2: They call it CIJ.
- 14:12Speaker 5: It's very popular with the QVC ladies and they buy
- 14:16Speaker 5: all their Christmas stuff. That sold out on air while
- 14:20Speaker 5: we were on it, which was so exhilarating and exciting
- 14:23Speaker 5: to be having that happen. And then we had our
- 14:26Speaker 5: last drop in September, which was our Culinary Collection and
- 14:31Speaker 5: those are some of the pieces over there, the cakestand
- 14:33Speaker 5: those beautiful chargers you see up there, the bread basket,
- 14:37Speaker 5: the picture of the pan.
- 14:38Speaker 2: It's all here for you guys to look at. We're
- 14:40Speaker 2: kind of proud of it.
- 14:41Speaker 6: So what up there is yours and what up there
- 14:46Speaker 6: is Tories? Or is it like an amalgamation of both
- 14:49Speaker 6: your aesthetics?
- 14:52Speaker 2: It is that it.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Is a combo of everything. So we'll bring an idea
- 14:58Speaker 5: to the table, and that's that's what. I'm a collaborator, like,
- 15:03Speaker 5: I love when other people bring me ideas on top
- 15:07Speaker 5: of my ideas, ideas that are going to make my
- 15:09Speaker 5: idea better.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And so that's how Tory and I kind of work.
- 15:12Speaker 5: We'll say, hey, let's do a bread bull and then
- 15:15Speaker 5: we'll both bring our inspiration to the table and just
- 15:18Speaker 5: kind of meet in the middle. And usually without fail,
- 15:22Speaker 5: our our instincts are the same direction. We are kind
- 15:25Speaker 5: of picking the same things and and it's worked out
- 15:29Speaker 5: really well. We haven't had any big fights about like,
- 15:31Speaker 5: well I wanted to be blue and you know, so
- 15:33Speaker 5: how not you no no drama.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Drama.
- 15:47Speaker 6: Obviously you can get this stuff on KBC. But if
- 15:50Speaker 6: people want to go find out more about it. Is
- 15:51Speaker 6: there a website, Yes.
- 15:53Speaker 2: It's the BFF collection dot com.
- 15:55Speaker 8: Easy enough.
- 15:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm supposed to. I'm playing the part of Tori
- 15:59Speaker 6: spelling today. They took the books away. I have a
- 16:02Speaker 6: bunch of books out. That's I put out a lot
- 16:06Speaker 6: of books. You did, They're great.
- 16:08Speaker 2: You've written how many books?
- 16:09Speaker 6: Is it seven or eight?
- 16:11Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:12Speaker 6: There's a children's book. I know that, really, I googled it.
- 16:18Speaker 6: You might be so there's that. But you also are
- 16:22Speaker 6: doing like like obviously I'm writing books seven or eight
- 16:26Speaker 6: ones a children's book, but you're also doing stuff on
- 16:29Speaker 6: your own as well. And I want to talk about
- 16:31Speaker 6: your clothing.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Line, right, Yeah, that's I think by doing the BFF Collection,
- 16:36Speaker 5: it sort of gave me that courage and confidence to
- 16:41Speaker 5: branch out on my own.
- 16:43Speaker 2: And I have to tell you that the collection.
- 16:47Speaker 5: The brand that I'm starting is called Me by Jenny Garth,
- 16:50Speaker 5: and it is it spawned from something a long time ago,
- 16:54Speaker 5: which my character actually said a line that was written
- 16:58Speaker 5: by the late Jessica Klein, who was one of my
- 17:00Speaker 5: favorite writers on the show. She wrote a very profound
- 17:05Speaker 5: line and I didn't really understand the depth of it
- 17:10Speaker 5: when I was whatever in my early twenties. It was
- 17:14Speaker 5: the moment when Kelly was deciding between Brandon and Dylan.
- 17:18Speaker 5: They came up to her in the peach Pit parking
- 17:20Speaker 5: lot and made her decide, and in that moment she said,
- 17:25Speaker 5: I choose me. And that has resonated me through the
- 17:30Speaker 5: years and impacted me on such a deeper level. And
- 17:34Speaker 5: now that I'm older and wiser and I have young
- 17:37Speaker 5: adult women that I'm guiding in this life.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I say that to them a lot.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Choose you put you first, because when you take care
- 17:47Speaker 5: of yourself, you are more available to everybody in your life.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And we all know that old saying on.
- 17:54Speaker 5: The airplane, when the oxygen drops, you put it on
- 17:57Speaker 5: yourself first and then you take care of the person.
- 18:00Speaker 5: And that's kind of the backbone of my brand, and
- 18:04Speaker 5: it's just encouraging women, young girls, anyone really to listen
- 18:11Speaker 5: to themselves and choose to listen to themselves first instead
- 18:16Speaker 5: of other people. So my brand is Me by Jenny Garth,
- 18:20Speaker 5: and I've started just very preliminarily, just doing some merch
- 18:24Speaker 5: with the.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Slogan on it that I Choose Me.
- 18:30Speaker 5: A lot of stuff like this, just reminding me and
- 18:33Speaker 5: other people that this is an option you can choose
- 18:36Speaker 5: you it's not selfish, and I feel really good about it.
- 18:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 18:40Speaker 5: It's something that's percolated in my mind a long time,
- 18:44Speaker 5: and people always said. I remember I got my horoscope
- 18:47Speaker 5: read once and they said, you're supposed to use whatever
- 18:50Speaker 5: platform it is, you know those things they say, if
- 18:54Speaker 5: you're in ares, you're more apt to be an entertainer
- 18:59Speaker 5: or someone in the spotlight or a public figure or whatever.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That's what they said to me. I was like, oh, okay,
- 19:02Speaker 2: what do I do with that? And they also said
- 19:05Speaker 2: you're supposed to help other people in doing that, And
- 19:07Speaker 2: I always thought, I'm just an actress. How am I
- 19:09Speaker 2: helping people?
- 19:10Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, I get it that they relate to the show,
- 19:13Speaker 5: They relate to the characters that I've played, and that
- 19:15Speaker 5: moves them and touches them and makes us, you know, closer,
- 19:19Speaker 5: But I didn't really understand what I was doing.
- 19:22Speaker 2: And now I really do feel like this is.
- 19:27Speaker 5: A calling for me to teach these lessons to women
- 19:32Speaker 5: that need to hear them. This is a message that
- 19:34Speaker 5: women need to hear, that everybody needs to hear.
- 19:37Speaker 2: So this is the merch part.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Is just the first branch of the Me by Jennigarth
- 19:42Speaker 5: line and coming out with a clothing line for QVC
- 19:46Speaker 5: as well, which is also very exciting. It'll be out
- 19:48Speaker 5: next year and I just I don't know where it's
- 19:51Speaker 5: going to go, but I'm really excited about the options
- 19:54Speaker 5: and the doors that are opening. And then they wouldn't
- 19:56Speaker 5: have opened if I hadn't looked that fear right.
- 19:59Speaker 2: In the face said no more with you. I don't
- 20:02Speaker 2: trust you anymore. You're a liar, and I'm gonna do
- 20:05Speaker 2: what I want to do.
- 20:06Speaker 6: I love that I choose me.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It's good. That's great.
- 20:10Speaker 6: Ashley and John are out in the audience. Do you
- 20:13Speaker 6: guys have any questions for Jenny?
- 20:15Speaker 3: I know John does right now, and then if you
- 20:18Speaker 3: guys do, raise your hands and we'll get to you
- 20:20Speaker 3: right after him.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Awesome. Goodbye, Torri children, So write a book real quick. Okay.
- 20:28Speaker 11: So Jenny talking about choosing you a little bit. One
- 20:30Speaker 11: of the questions we get a lot on our podcast
- 20:32Speaker 11: is about small business owners kind of being in their
- 20:34Speaker 11: head and needing to take time. How do you choose
- 20:37Speaker 11: you or what are some things that you do to
- 20:40Speaker 11: kind of in your very busy schedule to make sure
- 20:42Speaker 11: you're taking care of yourself and that your focus is
- 20:44Speaker 11: a priority.
- 20:46Speaker 5: I am a calendar girl. I write it all on
- 20:50Speaker 5: my calendar. It's color coded. Everybody has a color on
- 20:53Speaker 5: my phone, so I know who's where and when and
- 20:56Speaker 5: what and all the addresses and everything.
- 20:59Speaker 2: So I live by.
- 21:00Speaker 5: My calendar, and I schedule in time for myself, and
- 21:06Speaker 5: those blocks of an hour a day, three days a
- 21:09Speaker 5: week or whatever it is, those are the times when
- 21:12Speaker 5: which I've used that time recently to focus on my
- 21:15Speaker 5: physical health as well as my mental health. And the
- 21:17Speaker 5: impact that just setting aside that time for myself has
- 21:21Speaker 5: had on my well being general well being has been incredible.
- 21:26Speaker 5: And I just feel like I'm in such a different
- 21:28Speaker 5: place because I've decided to choose myself sometimes.
- 21:33Speaker 2: And I'm still a mom.
- 21:34Speaker 5: I still have, you know, three my oldest is twenty six,
- 21:38Speaker 5: twenty and seventeen, and they need me all the time,
- 21:41Speaker 5: like girls.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Always need their moms.
- 21:44Speaker 5: And it's a constant like skype or zoom or phone
- 21:48Speaker 5: call or texting at all times with the girls. But
- 21:51Speaker 5: I still have carved out that time for myself. And
- 21:54Speaker 5: the great thing is once you carve out that time
- 21:56Speaker 5: for yourself, and you succeed at taking that time for
- 21:58Speaker 5: yourself and you do something for yourself. The rest of
- 22:01Speaker 5: your day is just like woho, I got that check,
- 22:05Speaker 5: you know.
- 22:06Speaker 11: There you go. And then one other question and more
- 22:09Speaker 11: on the note of having a partner. So you and
- 22:11Speaker 11: Tori are best friends, you known each other a long time.
- 22:14Speaker 11: How do you find balancing being friends and being business partners?
- 22:18Speaker 11: And what advice might you have for people who are
- 22:20Speaker 11: trying to start something with someone that they're really close
- 22:22Speaker 11: to in a different capacity in their life.
- 22:24Speaker 3: That's a really good question because sometimes you hear don't
- 22:28Speaker 3: start businesses with your friends because it gets too muddy.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I think, I think with your family.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I haven't done that, but it can be tricky waters
- 22:40Speaker 5: to navigate. There has to be an underlying, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 5: unspoken trusts there. Tory and I always have each other's
- 22:49Speaker 5: backs when it comes to speaking in public or being
- 22:53Speaker 5: you know, best friends and protecting one another, and I've
- 22:58Speaker 5: always felt that with her, and I know she feels
- 23:00Speaker 5: that as well. But I think, you know, putting us aside.
- 23:03Speaker 5: I think for me, I just started my new brand
- 23:07Speaker 5: with a woman named Lisa Klein, and in our first meeting.
- 23:11Speaker 5: I said, look, I am completely open, I'm very straightforward,
- 23:16Speaker 5: and I just want you to know never lie to me.
- 23:18Speaker 5: I will never lie to you, and never lie to me.
- 23:21Speaker 5: Tell me even if you think it's going to upset me,
- 23:23Speaker 5: because transparency is so important and honesty. If you don't
- 23:27Speaker 5: have that, then you just don't have a solid footing
- 23:32Speaker 5: for a business, and you need that.
- 23:34Speaker 12: All right.
- 23:35Speaker 3: I saw a question down here, Hello, what's your question
- 23:39Speaker 3: for Jenny?
- 23:40Speaker 2: So my question was when is the next QBC drop?
- 23:43Speaker 2: And what is it going to be? Is it going
- 23:45Speaker 2: to be Home?
- 23:45Speaker 8: Is it going to be.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Food?
- 23:48Speaker 2: What's it going to be Hi?
- 23:50Speaker 5: By the way, the next I don't think we have
- 23:54Speaker 5: another official drop in twenty twenty three, but we will.
- 23:58Speaker 5: We're already developing Chris in July for twenty twenty four
- 24:01Speaker 5: and it's so beautiful I cannot take it.
- 24:04Speaker 2: You guys are gonna love it. So many sparkles involved.
- 24:07Speaker 5: And other than that, I've just been working on me
- 24:10Speaker 5: by Jenny Garth for QBC, developing the clothing, which is
- 24:14Speaker 5: just a whole new world for me, and it's been
- 24:15Speaker 5: really fascinating and working with all the in house design
- 24:19Speaker 5: team at QBC they're so great there. And so to
- 24:23Speaker 5: answer your question, I believe it might be January twenty
- 24:27Speaker 5: twenty four for BFF and then July for JG. Yes,
- 24:36Speaker 5: I'm doing my website right now for me by Jenny
- 24:40Speaker 5: Garth and learning so much about all the little steps
- 24:44Speaker 5: because when we started BFF, I had Tory and we
- 24:47Speaker 5: had each other, and we pushed a lot of the
- 24:51Speaker 5: minutia work to our teams and everybody was helping us.
- 24:55Speaker 5: And with my brand, I'm just like I want to be.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I'm the boss.
- 25:00Speaker 5: I want to be the boss at every turn. And
- 25:03Speaker 5: I not that I don't need help, because I absolutely do,
- 25:06Speaker 5: and I seek the right people to help me. But
- 25:10Speaker 5: I'm developing the website. I'm learning about, you know, all
- 25:13Speaker 5: the things that you have to do and all the
- 25:15Speaker 5: legalities and the trademarks and you know, there's so much
- 25:18Speaker 5: that goes into it that you really don't think about
- 25:20Speaker 5: until you're in it. And then you just write a
- 25:23Speaker 5: list and you check it off and you check it
- 25:24Speaker 5: off and you check it off.
- 25:25Speaker 2: And you get it all done. So website's coming.
- 25:30Speaker 4: We have a question right here. What's your name, Mary, Mary?
- 25:33Speaker 2: What's your question for Jenny?
- 25:35Speaker 8: Hi?
- 25:36Speaker 13: I've actually been so inspired by your fitness posts lately
- 25:40Speaker 13: and your your eye choose me that you've kind of
- 25:43Speaker 13: blinked in with that so much so that I actually
- 25:45Speaker 13: wrote a song about it.
- 25:46Speaker 8: But I was.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Curious song Wait a second, yeah, but I was curious
- 25:52Speaker 5: you want to sing it.
- 25:54Speaker 13: But I was curious if you were thinking of doing it.
- 25:58Speaker 13: I know you have so many side projects, but another
- 26:00Speaker 13: side project that's like more fitness based, because if you
- 26:02Speaker 13: had something like that, I mean, I'd sent up for
- 26:04Speaker 13: it in a day. I don't know everyone else.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember, but in ninety.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Yeah something, I had a little exercise video right on
- 26:14Speaker 5: the shelf there next to Jane Fonda.
- 26:16Speaker 2: It was great.
- 26:17Speaker 5: It was called Body and Progress and yeah, I've toyed.
- 26:21Speaker 2: They don't make exercise videos in Yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 5: So it's a different landscape now, and just trying to
- 26:29Speaker 5: sort of figure out how to work that in because
- 26:32Speaker 5: it certainly does live in the same world as the
- 26:37Speaker 5: whole brand, you know, just being able to choose yourself
- 26:40Speaker 5: and take physically care of yourself, mentally take care of yourself.
- 26:44Speaker 5: But I just started, you know, I started exercising for
- 26:46Speaker 5: myself and I just started having my train to film
- 26:51Speaker 5: it and we'd throw it up and then people started
- 26:54Speaker 5: to really respond to it, and I thought, oh, this
- 26:56Speaker 5: is a great way to connect with my face the
- 27:00Speaker 5: people out there that are like me who want better
- 27:03Speaker 5: for themselves, but they don't have that motivation.
- 27:05Speaker 2: They don't know what to do, they don't know how
- 27:07Speaker 2: to st hurt, they don't know what to eat.
- 27:09Speaker 5: So I've just sort of been, you know, lacing that
- 27:12Speaker 5: into my feed and seeing how it does, and people
- 27:15Speaker 5: really respond to it. And the thing about it is
- 27:18Speaker 5: they they say I'm inspiring them, But there you all
- 27:22Speaker 5: are inspiring me when you comment and you like it
- 27:25Speaker 5: or whatever. I read those comments and I and they
- 27:28Speaker 5: move me and touch me and they keep me going.
- 27:30Speaker 5: So if if you're keeping me going and I'm keeping
- 27:33Speaker 5: you going, then it's all working the way it's supposed
- 27:34Speaker 5: to work.
- 27:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Well they're amazing.
- 27:37Speaker 14: Thank you.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Oh I have one right here, let's do.
- 27:41Speaker 2: What's your name?
- 27:43Speaker 8: Hello?
- 27:43Speaker 4: Hello, My name is Michael.
- 27:45Speaker 15: First of all, we love your charger plates, the gold
- 27:48Speaker 15: charger plates. They pretty We actually own a luxury venue
- 27:52Speaker 15: in downtown LA and we saw those and we actually
- 27:56Speaker 15: carry something like this, not as amazing as that, and
- 28:00Speaker 15: and we were just thinking, like, it's so amazing and great,
- 28:04Speaker 15: but what was your biggest challenge creating this line and
- 28:08Speaker 15: going through the process, Because, like you said earlier, you
- 28:11Speaker 15: have a lot of things going to your head and
- 28:13Speaker 15: clouding you, but you have to stay the course, stay
- 28:15Speaker 15: the you know, whiteboard.
- 28:17Speaker 5: So yeah, well, I think specifically with the BFF collection
- 28:22Speaker 5: going into it, we had never done home decorps. We
- 28:25Speaker 5: didn't know our customer well enough, we didn't know our
- 28:28Speaker 5: price point well enough. So our January launch wasn't as
- 28:32Speaker 5: successful as it could have been straight out of the gate.
- 28:35Speaker 5: It's had success now living online and being available, but
- 28:39Speaker 5: so there was a little bit of a deflated feeling
- 28:42Speaker 5: after we debuted it because it didn't sell like hotcakes
- 28:45Speaker 5: like we were.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Hoping, you know.
- 28:47Speaker 5: So I think that it's about knowing your audience, knowing
- 28:52Speaker 5: your customer, and really be thinking about them when you
- 28:56Speaker 5: create the products. And so for me, that has been
- 29:00Speaker 5: and what I try to focus on is definitely what
- 29:02Speaker 5: I'm focusing on now with apparel line for QBC, thinking
- 29:05Speaker 5: about all the different bodies that are going to be
- 29:07Speaker 5: wearing these clothes and for me, just really focusing on
- 29:10Speaker 5: what I want women to feel when they wear these
- 29:12Speaker 5: clothes and just keeping that as the through line of
- 29:17Speaker 5: all my efforts.
- 29:18Speaker 3: You know, I saw one hand over here. I want
- 29:22Speaker 3: to get to and get to a couple more questions. Hello,
- 29:26Speaker 3: what's your name Russia? I'm Rassia, Thank you, hav Hello. Hi.
- 29:30Speaker 5: My question for you is, as you made your way
- 29:33Speaker 5: into a small business, especially in this product line, what
- 29:36Speaker 5: would you say was one of the biggest risks that
- 29:38Speaker 5: you took. Well, people think that celebrities whatever actors are rich,
- 29:50Speaker 5: and this is not the case all the time. So
- 29:53Speaker 5: for me, very frankly, the biggest fear was committing my
- 29:59Speaker 5: own money to it, to starting up a business.
- 30:02Speaker 2: And it took the.
- 30:04Speaker 5: Right message from somebody in my life that said, you
- 30:08Speaker 5: can't win if you don't risk. You know, you never
- 30:12Speaker 5: know unless you try. So give yourself a budget of
- 30:16Speaker 5: how much you're willing to let go of and then
- 30:20Speaker 5: see what happens. So and also learning to crawl, walk, run,
- 30:27Speaker 5: because I want to run right away, and you really
- 30:31Speaker 5: do need to take the time to, you know, experience
- 30:36Speaker 5: each of those stages because you learn so much in
- 30:39Speaker 5: every stage when you're starting your own small business.
- 30:43Speaker 3: That was awesome advice. Really, I'm going to take that
- 30:46Speaker 3: home with me. Hello, what's your name?
- 31:00Speaker 8: Hi?
- 31:02Speaker 16: My sister launched her porcelain brand, Home to Course. She's
- 31:06Speaker 16: right here, cassanoid us. I have what can you give her?
- 31:12Speaker 2: As an advice? She just started, so that's it. Yes,
- 31:19Speaker 2: I was.
- 31:19Speaker 12: I think I was a little bit too embarrassed to
- 31:21Speaker 12: ask the questions.
- 31:21Speaker 2: So she went ahead and did it for me.
- 31:23Speaker 12: So as somebody who also launched their own homeware and
- 31:28Speaker 12: dinnerware brand, I wanted.
- 31:30Speaker 8: To ask you, what.
- 31:33Speaker 12: How do you separate what you like, for example, versus
- 31:38Speaker 12: what is going to sell or what the customer base likes,
- 31:41Speaker 12: because those are two very different things, very different. And
- 31:44Speaker 12: you think that everything is beautiful and everybody's gonna love everything,
- 31:47Speaker 12: and some people are like, no, not that one.
- 31:49Speaker 8: You're like, are you nuts?
- 31:50Speaker 5: But you know, so, just you know the knowledge that
- 31:54Speaker 5: everybody is in it for something different, like we all
- 31:57Speaker 5: have different taste, different opinions, different lifestyles everything.
- 32:01Speaker 2: And I mean.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Knowing your customer like I was talking about before, knowing
- 32:06Speaker 5: your price point, it's really important and ultimately going with
- 32:11Speaker 5: your gut, like listening to yourself and putting yourself in
- 32:15Speaker 5: their shoes and thinking what would you want as your customer?
- 32:19Speaker 2: You know, quality, top of top of the list.
- 32:24Speaker 5: If it's a you know, economic top of the list,
- 32:26Speaker 5: like things that are important to you, comfort, all the things.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And for me also too, it's just a general like,
- 32:32Speaker 5: how do I want people to feel when they're in
- 32:35Speaker 5: my clothes or sitting on an automan? I want them
- 32:38Speaker 5: to feel good about it and feel good about that purchase,
- 32:42Speaker 5: because I know that money doesn't grow on trees and
- 32:44Speaker 5: people especially. We have the most incredible fan base from
- 32:50Speaker 5: nine o two one zero, and all those loyal fans
- 32:54Speaker 5: support us. They spend their hard earned money on the
- 32:57Speaker 5: things that we're making and selling, and we're doing it
- 33:00Speaker 5: for them. But it's also you know, it's also our
- 33:04Speaker 5: livelihood too, so it's so reciprocal. And just really appreciating
- 33:07Speaker 5: your customer, I think on such a deep level and
- 33:11Speaker 5: having respect for them, I would say, is really important.
- 33:17Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 33:18Speaker 3: You guys are asking such good questions. We have time
- 33:21Speaker 3: for one more, so I'll go over here. Hello, what's
- 33:25Speaker 3: your name? What's your question?
- 33:26Speaker 17: My name is Summer and I was your clothing line
- 33:30Speaker 17: when you were talking about it, it really it made
- 33:33Speaker 17: me think of my students. I'm an elementary school teacher,
- 33:36Speaker 17: and I know that your line thank you the message
- 33:42Speaker 17: that you're sending at. You know, I'm assuming that your
- 33:44Speaker 17: audience is you know, your fans like me who watched
- 33:48Speaker 17: your show, But I think your message reaches much further
- 33:53Speaker 17: than that. And I was thinking about, you know, obviously
- 33:56Speaker 17: you're just launching, but once you're established in your brand,
- 33:59Speaker 17: which you ever consider bringing it down into the children
- 34:02Speaker 17: to children, because I know so many kids are struggling
- 34:06Speaker 17: right now with you know, emotional things and mental health
- 34:10Speaker 17: and all of that. And I think that message, especially
- 34:13Speaker 17: for little girls, but for boys as well, but especially
- 34:16Speaker 17: the young girls, would be amazing. And like nonprofit side of.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Your business, and absolutely my parents are both teachers first
- 34:25Speaker 5: of all. So I have such a respect for you
- 34:27Speaker 5: and what you do, and I see it intertwined, you know,
- 34:32Speaker 5: I see me doing what I have passion for, like
- 34:35Speaker 5: I was talking about before, and figuring out what that
- 34:37Speaker 5: message was that I wanted to put out there, and
- 34:41Speaker 5: I see how it can affect multi generations. And in fact,
- 34:46Speaker 5: I've had I think we've only sold the me by
- 34:51Speaker 5: Jenny Garth Merch at the nineties cons so far this year,
- 34:55Speaker 5: while we've been working to get the rest of the
- 34:57Speaker 5: line up and the website up, had a lot of
- 35:01Speaker 5: responses from women just like you who say either they
- 35:05Speaker 5: want to take this home and give it to their
- 35:06Speaker 5: kids and encourage their kids, or they want to use
- 35:10Speaker 5: it in their classrooms. And that has opened up a
- 35:13Speaker 5: whole new like brain for me of what I can
- 35:18Speaker 5: do with this message.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And it doesn't just have to be.
- 35:21Speaker 5: You know, my audience, my demographic. It can be for everyone.
- 35:24Speaker 5: And I think that you're it's it's so much deeper
- 35:27Speaker 5: than that. So thank you.
- 35:31Speaker 2: That's it. I think, right, we don't have that time.
- 35:34Speaker 8: That's it.
- 35:34Speaker 4: That was so amazing.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 35:37Speaker 4: That was a wealth of knowledge. This is amazing. Thank you, Jenny.
- 35:41Speaker 2: You're welcome. I'm leaving now, okay, bye, see soon.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Our next guest is passionate about everything she takes on,
- 35:50Speaker 3: whether it's how she turned her small business into truly
- 35:53Speaker 3: one of the most lucrative brands in the entire world.
- 35:56Speaker 3: I am so excited to introduce our final speaker, one
- 36:00Speaker 3: and only, Bethany Frankel.
- 36:07Speaker 8: Hello, thank you, whoa thank you.
- 36:12Speaker 9: She just gave away my secret. I was thinking backstage,
- 36:14Speaker 9: what is my secret? I didn't know I was gonna
- 36:16Speaker 9: have to tell the secret, and she just said that
- 36:17Speaker 9: I put everything into everything I do, So that's the secret.
- 36:20Speaker 8: I gotta go have fun. Okay.
- 36:23Speaker 9: So I was actually thinking. The people with me here
- 36:26Speaker 9: were like, what is your secret? Like, do I have
- 36:29Speaker 9: a super and it's a secret. If it's a secret,
- 36:30Speaker 9: why am I gonna tell you?
- 36:31Speaker 8: Guys? It's a secret. I think that.
- 36:36Speaker 9: Everyone's secret to their success is different because it's a
- 36:39Speaker 9: different formula. Like we all you know what your skill
- 36:42Speaker 9: set is and you know where you thrive, and you
- 36:44Speaker 9: also have to stretch to try to be good at
- 36:48Speaker 9: different things. To fail, I think to succeed, you really
- 36:52Speaker 9: do have to fail.
- 36:52Speaker 8: There's a woman who.
- 36:56Speaker 9: I don't know why, but likes to try to elevate
- 36:58Speaker 9: herself by always bringing up things that I've done that
- 37:00Speaker 9: have failed. And there are so many, and I really
- 37:03Speaker 9: do I'm proud of my failures because I wouldn't be
- 37:07Speaker 9: successful without them, and maybe that is maybe that's one
- 37:11Speaker 9: of the secrets. I think that Jenny Garth's secret is
- 37:15Speaker 9: that Tory spelling is in the trunk of her car
- 37:17Speaker 9: and now she has one hundred percent of that business.
- 37:19Speaker 9: So I think that's the secret because I can't imagine
- 37:22Speaker 9: getting into business with my best friend. But that's one secret.
- 37:24Speaker 9: And Tyler Florence has never used an air fryer's fuck
- 37:29Speaker 9: of twenty twenty three. That's Tyler Florence's secret. So I'm
- 37:32Speaker 9: going to tell other people's secrets while we try to
- 37:35Speaker 9: figure out what mine is together. Because another secret about
- 37:38Speaker 9: Amy Sugarman, who produces my podcast and as a star
- 37:41Speaker 9: producer for iHeart. We were out to dinner last night.
- 37:44Speaker 9: I flew on a plane on a car I flew.
- 37:48Speaker 9: I have a special flying car. I forgot to mention that. Yeah, no,
- 37:51Speaker 9: I flew on an airplane. You've ever heard of one?
- 37:53Speaker 9: So I flew on an airplane. And I come and
- 37:55Speaker 9: I get ready and we go to this dinner that
- 37:57Speaker 9: we've been planning. It's twenty five people. And today I
- 38:00Speaker 9: did six podcasts in one one sitting.
- 38:04Speaker 8: Have you done? What have you guys done?
- 38:05Speaker 4: Today?
- 38:05Speaker 8: So I did that? And where else did they take
- 38:08Speaker 8: me off?
- 38:08Speaker 11: Oh?
- 38:08Speaker 9: My other partner took took me to Culver City to
- 38:12Speaker 9: you know hawk my mocktails which are out in the lobby,
- 38:14Speaker 9: which are phenomenal, but I've talked about them so much
- 38:17Speaker 9: today that I'm I'm full.
- 38:20Speaker 8: So I had a quite full day.
- 38:22Speaker 9: And last night we're just sort of all drinking and
- 38:24Speaker 9: hanging out and it was late, probably like almost ten o'clock,
- 38:26Speaker 9: and she was like talking to somebody else, not.
- 38:28Speaker 8: Me, and she goes, yeah, she's tomorrow.
- 38:31Speaker 9: She's talking for twenty minutes, doing a whole thing about
- 38:34Speaker 9: her success or whatever. And then after I'm like, wait
- 38:36Speaker 9: a second, I thought we're doing just a Q and
- 38:37Speaker 9: A in a moderated This is my moderator, it's my
- 38:41Speaker 9: this is my toy spelling right over here. So I
- 38:44Speaker 9: was like, oh, Amy, when were you gonna tell me?
- 38:46Speaker 9: She goes, no, it's just like a quick twenty, which
- 38:48Speaker 9: I guess in comedy they'd like to do a quick three.
- 38:50Speaker 8: I was like, a quick twenty.
- 38:51Speaker 9: So then I was thinking, today they're talking about the
- 38:53Speaker 9: secret of their success, and I was like, I really
- 38:55Speaker 9: don't know what do I have a secret? So I
- 38:58Speaker 9: want to go through it with you guys, because one
- 38:59Speaker 9: of the things I you do in business is crowdsource,
- 39:02Speaker 9: So let's try to workshop this together.
- 39:05Speaker 8: One is.
- 39:07Speaker 9: Ashley did say, I throw my whole body into everything
- 39:10Speaker 9: that I do, And didn't you say that or something?
- 39:12Speaker 9: What did you say?
- 39:17Speaker 8: Nice? I don't even know you.
- 39:19Speaker 9: Nice to meet you, all right, So she's this is
- 39:22Speaker 9: by the way, this was because today when I got
- 39:23Speaker 9: in the dressing room, I was like, let me figure
- 39:27Speaker 9: out my secret. I can't even read my own writing.
- 39:28Speaker 9: So that's another secret on my Honda Napkin. So I
- 39:32Speaker 9: do throw my entire body into everything that I do.
- 39:35Speaker 9: If I do it, like people always talk about work
- 39:38Speaker 9: life balance, and I'm incredibly present in what I'm doing,
- 39:43Speaker 9: like I'm very happy to be here and this is
- 39:45Speaker 9: my you know, unless there was an emergency, I'm not
- 39:47Speaker 9: here to talk to my daughter, like I'm here to
- 39:50Speaker 9: be with you. And when I'm with my daughter, I'm
- 39:52Speaker 9: very present in being with her. But I did this
- 39:55Speaker 9: game show last week with David Spade, and I was
- 39:58Speaker 9: kind of just like, you know, sleepwalking through the idea
- 40:01Speaker 9: of doing it. And I got there and it was
- 40:03Speaker 9: this woman next to me, and I sort of as
- 40:05Speaker 9: we started doing it realized like what we were doing,
- 40:07Speaker 9: and it was she wanted to go to Dolly World
- 40:09Speaker 9: or her family, and I was like, all of a
- 40:11Speaker 9: sudden like part of her family.
- 40:12Speaker 8: And we were all going to Dolly World.
- 40:14Speaker 9: And then we had to think of these business what
- 40:17Speaker 9: business is snake oil and what's not? And then the
- 40:21Speaker 9: money got it kept going higher, and she kept betting
- 40:24Speaker 9: everything on me, and I was like, I was screaming,
- 40:27Speaker 9: Like the Price of Ride in nineteen eighty eight.
- 40:29Speaker 8: I was like, just oh my god. I was so excited.
- 40:32Speaker 9: And I won her two hundred and twenty thousand dollars
- 40:35Speaker 9: and she's going to Dolly World times five. So no
- 40:38Speaker 9: matter what I'm doing, I do it like if it's
- 40:42Speaker 9: making a piece of chicken at home or something like,
- 40:44Speaker 9: I'm obsessed with everything. Everything is a full blown investigation.
- 40:48Speaker 9: So that's a working model for maybe why I'm successful.
- 40:51Speaker 9: That's one. Another one could be that I know what
- 40:58Speaker 9: I know and I know it.
- 40:59Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 41:00Speaker 9: You guys are all small business owners right here. You're
- 41:02Speaker 9: all good business owners. Because I heard that was forty
- 41:05Speaker 9: dollars to come here, and I heard you got a
- 41:06Speaker 9: lunch from Jones on third Is that true? What the
- 41:10Speaker 9: That's like the sickest group on ever. There's like a scam.
- 41:13Speaker 9: You could go to Air one. You guys were definitely
- 41:15Speaker 9: talking to each other. You're like, I should have should
- 41:16Speaker 9: have bought four tickets and got jones On third meals
- 41:19Speaker 9: for all my friends, because forty dollars. This this this
- 41:22Speaker 9: girl I have with me backstage, she orders what's this do?
- 41:26Speaker 8: She plays to get air one and I like it.
- 41:28Speaker 9: The Hailey Bieber, I know you drink a SMOOTHI You're
- 41:30Speaker 9: gonna like Haley Bieber buy that bullshit. So she every
- 41:33Speaker 9: day fifty four dollars because Postmates to bring the smoothie
- 41:37Speaker 9: to her house. I got an Asie bowl in Venice
- 41:39Speaker 9: last week. It was twenty one dollars out the door.
- 41:42Speaker 9: So this is a deal. If I were drooling up here,
- 41:44Speaker 9: you got a Jones On third meal, that's already. You
- 41:46Speaker 9: guys are good business people, so let's just start with that.
- 41:49Speaker 9: And I'm expensive, so there's a lot of value here.
- 41:52Speaker 9: So what was I saying? How did we get into
- 41:55Speaker 9: that thing? What did I just say? What was the
- 41:56Speaker 9: second thing that was good about me? Oh that I
- 41:58Speaker 9: know what I know and I know what I don't know. Okay,
- 42:00Speaker 9: that's number two. Let me think if there are any
- 42:02Speaker 9: other things. I am very honest, but that doesn't work
- 42:06Speaker 9: for everybody else.
- 42:07Speaker 8: Look at Charlie Sheen he's like, you know, like in
- 42:10Speaker 8: a box.
- 42:10Speaker 9: Somewhere in his house, talking to himself, like it didn't
- 42:13Speaker 9: work for him, So it has to be that that
- 42:15Speaker 9: works for you. And you know, you have to know
- 42:19Speaker 9: the temperature of the room. Is it going well right now?
- 42:23Speaker 9: Because I don't know the temperature. It feels like seventy eight.
- 42:26Speaker 9: It's not like I'm getting a hundred right now. So
- 42:30Speaker 9: would you like to hear me talk about Skinner Girl?
- 42:32Speaker 9: I feel like you know about that. I'm excited for
- 42:33Speaker 9: the Q and A because I want to hear what
- 42:35Speaker 9: you want to know.
- 42:36Speaker 8: And then.
- 42:38Speaker 9: Before you ask your question, will you tell me what
- 42:40Speaker 9: you think the secret is? Because I, first of all,
- 42:42Speaker 9: I may not tell I may want to keep it
- 42:44Speaker 9: to myself. I don't know, but I don't know the secret,
- 42:47Speaker 9: so I hope we can work it out together. I
- 42:50Speaker 9: think that the being present in the different areas of
- 42:53Speaker 9: your life is critical. I also know that the whole
- 42:56Speaker 9: entire business journey is a road. And I think that
- 43:00Speaker 9: younger people right now are really so obsessed with knowing
- 43:03Speaker 9: what they're supposed to be doing with their lives, Like
- 43:05Speaker 9: don't you feel like the pressure with shows like Shark
- 43:07Speaker 9: Tank and billionaires in their garages from tech ideas that
- 43:10Speaker 9: you feel like exasperated, like you're supposed to be where
- 43:13Speaker 9: you're supposed to be. And I was a late bloomer.
- 43:16Speaker 9: I was thirty eight years old. I was still I
- 43:19Speaker 9: had a money. I mean, I was very I was very,
- 43:21Speaker 9: very stressed.
- 43:24Speaker 8: Very worried.
- 43:25Speaker 9: I would I couldn't afford a taxi downtown in New
- 43:28Speaker 9: York City when you live in New York City. And
- 43:29Speaker 9: I don't know why I stayed living there when I
- 43:32Speaker 9: really couldn't afford to be there, but it was very
- 43:33Speaker 9: anxiety producing and I didn't have any safety net, but
- 43:38Speaker 9: I always had something inside.
- 43:39Speaker 8: Where I knew.
- 43:42Speaker 9: I knew I was on a road and I felt
- 43:44Speaker 9: like it was going somewhere. And you can't often know
- 43:45Speaker 9: if you're swimming in the right direction, to be honest,
- 43:47Speaker 9: like fit, you know you have a hit, something happened,
- 43:50Speaker 9: something in one of your business is successful. Then you
- 43:52Speaker 9: get set back so far and you don't know whether
- 43:55Speaker 9: a turnback or to keep going. And you have to
- 43:58Speaker 9: really have a good gut instinct. You have to just
- 44:00Speaker 9: have that sense, and you have to know if like
- 44:03Speaker 9: it's really served you, And you also have to know
- 44:05Speaker 9: whether you should be a crowdsourcer, whether you should I
- 44:09Speaker 9: am a crowdsourcer.
- 44:10Speaker 8: I ultimately make the decision.
- 44:11Speaker 9: When you sign something on a contract, it is you
- 44:13Speaker 9: signing it, and that is critical. But I like to
- 44:17Speaker 9: sort of get a lot of different ingredients and then
- 44:19Speaker 9: make the recipe myself. I do you know little Tyler
- 44:22Speaker 9: Florence reference. I like to ultimately make the decision, but
- 44:25Speaker 9: I am a crowdsourcer, and I think that you have
- 44:28Speaker 9: to determine whether you're somebody who works best alone to
- 44:31Speaker 9: the Tory spelling you know, Jenny example, or whether you're
- 44:36Speaker 9: better in a corporate environment or on a team like
- 44:38Speaker 9: And it doesn't mean either is wrong. It just means
- 44:41Speaker 9: you have to kind of get a sense of where
- 44:44Speaker 9: you really thrive, what environment you really thrive in. And
- 44:47Speaker 9: I've always always understood that it's a road and you
- 44:51Speaker 9: could hit a roadblock, and you could get run at
- 44:53Speaker 9: a gas and you could have to make a U turn,
- 44:56Speaker 9: but that everything you're learning is taking you further and
- 45:01Speaker 9: you don't realize until later. That's why I mentioned the failures,
- 45:04Speaker 9: because you don't realize until later how all of those
- 45:09Speaker 9: weird windy turns and all the discomfort and the loss
- 45:11Speaker 9: in your life and the stress and the time away
- 45:13Speaker 9: from your family and things like that, how you learn
- 45:16Speaker 9: from it and all of those experiences and failures and
- 45:19Speaker 9: things that do work and challenges. Those are like case law, like,
- 45:23Speaker 9: so you try future business cases and you just get
- 45:26Speaker 9: older and wiser and you just are saying, well, no,
- 45:28Speaker 9: we can't do that, because remember when we do that
- 45:31Speaker 9: other thing, but if we tweak that thing a little,
- 45:33Speaker 9: then the next thing will be better. And you do
- 45:35Speaker 9: find that as you get more successful, the stakes are higher.
- 45:39Speaker 9: So while you may be doing well or fine, or
- 45:42Speaker 9: you're not where you want to be, it's kind of
- 45:44Speaker 9: like good to spill something on yourself the minute you
- 45:46Speaker 9: get in the car, because it's going to happen, you
- 45:48Speaker 9: might as well get it out of the way. It
- 45:49Speaker 9: gets more expensive later, you know, and you kind of
- 45:53Speaker 9: have to do plan for anything to happen. Whatever you
- 45:56Speaker 9: are estimating, it's going to be way more expensive. And
- 46:01Speaker 9: it's like getting married without a prenup. You kind of
- 46:04Speaker 9: have to just like prepare for the worst in any situation.
- 46:07Speaker 9: You have to just be have the hurricane insurance, have
- 46:10Speaker 9: the prenup, like you have to just you know, everybody's
- 46:14Speaker 9: got a plan until you get punched in the face,
- 46:16Speaker 9: and you will get punched in the face and business
- 46:19Speaker 9: or on the Housewives, if you do that, you get
- 46:20Speaker 9: a punch in the face earlier and get that out
- 46:22Speaker 9: of the way. But it's one of those things where
- 46:25Speaker 9: the road is really it's really the the ultimate educator.
- 46:32Speaker 9: And while it's great to have mentors and people to
- 46:36Speaker 9: look up to and to listen to, it's lonely. It's
- 46:40Speaker 9: lonely because you really you have a community and you
- 46:43Speaker 9: establish a community, but like if you're an entrepreneur, if
- 46:45Speaker 9: you're a true entrepreneur, it's very lonely, like you're alone.
- 46:49Speaker 9: And it's funny because Amy, who I was talking about earlier,
- 46:55Speaker 9: says to me, like the thing about you is that
- 46:57Speaker 9: you give a shit. It's what I was saying before
- 46:59Speaker 9: about like that woman I walk in like what are
- 47:01Speaker 9: we doing? I don't know where I am, and then
- 47:02Speaker 9: I'm like, all of a sudden, like in it. So
- 47:05Speaker 9: if you do it, you have to do it like
- 47:07Speaker 9: just fully all in or don't. And business is all in.
- 47:11Speaker 9: It's just it's just I've interviewed too many people on
- 47:15Speaker 9: my podcast that are very successful and like very like billionaires,
- 47:19Speaker 9: people like Mark Cuban and people like Jeffrey Katzenberg, leaders
- 47:22Speaker 9: of industry game changers. Cheryl Samberg was, you know, Mark
- 47:27Speaker 9: Zuckerbird's number two. None of them are motivated by money,
- 47:30Speaker 9: Like money's great and I like nice things, and money's
- 47:33Speaker 9: just a scorecard. It's not if you're it won't you
- 47:37Speaker 9: won't have to drive if you're motivated by money because
- 47:40Speaker 9: it's not it's not like it's tangible, but it's not
- 47:45Speaker 9: going to give you that passion inside that just the
- 47:48Speaker 9: idea will give you the idea, the process, the chance,
- 47:53Speaker 9: the game, like it's a game.
- 47:55Speaker 8: Bus This is a game.
- 47:56Speaker 9: It's a fun game, and you're kind of like watch
- 48:00Speaker 9: the board and watching other people, but you really should
- 48:03Speaker 9: be running your own game because it doesn't matter what
- 48:06Speaker 9: someone else is doing. And to bring back the Mark Zuckerberg,
- 48:09Speaker 9: you know, the Winklevoss twins claimed that they came up
- 48:14Speaker 9: with Facebook, but they didn't execute like he did. Even
- 48:16Speaker 9: if they did, I don't know that answer. It doesn't matter,
- 48:19Speaker 9: like he was the one who executed. So successful entrepreneurs
- 48:24Speaker 9: are passionate, like by any means necessary and you're just
- 48:29Speaker 9: always thinking about it. On some level, it's just who
- 48:32Speaker 9: you are, and you have to surround yourself with people
- 48:34Speaker 9: like that that are in their own lanes also thinking
- 48:38Speaker 9: about it. And you gotta be good to your people.
- 48:41Speaker 9: You got to be really tough and fair, and you
- 48:44Speaker 9: have to make them feel valued. And I think that
- 48:46Speaker 9: really taking the time.
- 48:48Speaker 8: Things move quickly.
- 48:49Speaker 9: When you're an entrepreneur, it just moves fast. It's hard
- 48:52Speaker 9: to stop down, especially now. Every day you have to
- 48:54Speaker 9: be like, let's do a check in, how are you feeling,
- 48:56Speaker 9: how's your emotional well being? You know, and you're running
- 48:59Speaker 9: a thousand miles. But people really do appreciate feeling that
- 49:02Speaker 9: they're part of something and you being grateful, like saying
- 49:05Speaker 9: like wow, thank you. And people want to be valued
- 49:08Speaker 9: and told that they're doing a good job, and you
- 49:10Speaker 9: have to like that's like being a parent.
- 49:13Speaker 8: You're kind of putting into.
- 49:16Speaker 9: Your kids what you want to get out and you
- 49:19Speaker 9: do get it tenfold. Like whatever you put in, you
- 49:22Speaker 9: get out. The same is with your team and the
- 49:24Speaker 9: same as with your business. So you have to know
- 49:26Speaker 9: if you're someone who really just likes a very very
- 49:30Speaker 9: calm and predictable life, that it's not that easy to
- 49:34Speaker 9: be like a maverick business person. There's so many people
- 49:41Speaker 9: out there that want it. It's like anything else. It's
- 49:43Speaker 9: like being, you know, an athlete or something else. Like
- 49:47Speaker 9: there's so much competition, so many people want it, and
- 49:50Speaker 9: only the strong survive. But there are so many different
- 49:53Speaker 9: ways to be successful now, and I do the one
- 49:56Speaker 9: good news that I think in the land of social
- 49:59Speaker 9: media and filtering and face tune and all the bs,
- 50:02Speaker 9: the one thing I will say is that, uh wait,
- 50:06Speaker 9: I literally I was gonna tell you the secret. I
- 50:08Speaker 9: swear to God, I just forgot it. Give me a second.
- 50:10Speaker 9: I literally it wasn't the secret.
- 50:13Speaker 8: But what was it?
- 50:14Speaker 12: What?
- 50:14Speaker 9: Can I just ask you what? I was just saying?
- 50:16Speaker 9: This happens to me because my brain moves so good. Whoa, oh,
- 50:19Speaker 9: thank you.
- 50:20Speaker 8: This is the fucking secret. This is the secret.
- 50:23Speaker 9: No, this might be the secret. I swear to you,
- 50:25Speaker 9: I forgot it. It's such a secret that I was like,
- 50:27Speaker 9: am I gonna tell them? Or gatekeep Freud got in
- 50:29Speaker 9: the way. Okay, In the land of face tune and
- 50:32Speaker 9: social media and all of this stuff, the one secret
- 50:37Speaker 9: is old school hard work, and it's not your famous
- 50:41Speaker 9: it's not you're on a reality show. It's not you
- 50:43Speaker 9: have a good Instagram account, you have a good publicist,
- 50:45Speaker 9: you have a gimmick, you have a tagline, you have
- 50:47Speaker 9: a website. You could have nothing. It's the hard work.
- 50:53Speaker 9: It's the hard work, but not like you're at the gym,
- 50:56Speaker 9: you know, standing around in legwarmers thinking you're you're working hard,
- 50:59Speaker 9: but you're not like working smart, like real you know,
- 51:02Speaker 9: when you're like you know, when you're sticking the landing,
- 51:05Speaker 9: when you're like locked in. That is the secret. I
- 51:09Speaker 9: did not know that was a secret. See we worked
- 51:11Speaker 9: it out. Do you agree that's the secret? Or is
- 51:12Speaker 9: there another thing I said that's really the secret? I mean,
- 51:16Speaker 9: don't you all agree that, Like the real secret is
- 51:18Speaker 9: like the people around you that are I don't care
- 51:21Speaker 9: if someone knows anything about what we're doing. I only
- 51:24Speaker 9: care about if they're hard working and loyal. You may
- 51:28Speaker 9: not even There's a woman who doesn't speak the language
- 51:30Speaker 9: at all that works and work in my house. I
- 51:32Speaker 9: mean we can't communicate at all, not one word. She
- 51:34Speaker 9: works so hard. I don't care what she's saying. We
- 51:37Speaker 9: can speak the language of work, and I love her.
- 51:40Speaker 9: And I also thought, like, how hard would it be
- 51:41Speaker 9: to find a job when she doesn't speak any English?
- 51:44Speaker 9: But I'm like, she works hard, and like, I have
- 51:46Speaker 9: such respect for anyone.
- 51:48Speaker 8: That works hard.
- 51:48Speaker 9: You could teach your business, but you cannot teach a
- 51:52Speaker 9: work ethic. You cannot teach loyalty and honesty. And you
- 51:56Speaker 9: find someone, you find people around you. I had a
- 51:58Speaker 9: girl that was I was at a party with me
- 52:02Speaker 9: and I was working for free to cook for the
- 52:04Speaker 9: owner of Hampton's magazine, cause I used to do everything
- 52:07Speaker 9: for free. It didn't matter up well, I mean Housewives
- 52:10Speaker 9: for season one was seven two hundred fifty dollars. Like
- 52:12Speaker 9: that's free, Let's be honest. We divided out for all
- 52:15Speaker 9: the arguments I had. It was like arguing for I
- 52:17Speaker 9: was paying to argue with people, so I was paying
- 52:19Speaker 9: to argue. So but I was at this party and
- 52:23Speaker 9: this girl just was like, I'm on it, and she
- 52:25Speaker 9: was on it, and she she I didn't make any money,
- 52:28Speaker 9: but I said, I'm gonna You're gonna work for me
- 52:29Speaker 9: one day, and I one day hired her and she
- 52:32Speaker 9: was unbelievable and went on to have like a major job.
- 52:35Speaker 9: Another girl was a co check girl for me, when
- 52:37Speaker 9: I used to produce events and MERV Griffin, who I
- 52:40Speaker 9: worked for, they wouldn't let me hire her. And I said,
- 52:43Speaker 9: but she works her ass off, Like what's her resume?
- 52:45Speaker 8: I'm like, I don't know. She was holding like the co.
- 52:47Speaker 9: Check like she was working, you know, for the frickin'
- 52:50Speaker 9: un Like. She was very serious about checking these goddamn coats.
- 52:53Speaker 9: Imagine what she's like about something that matters. And she
- 52:55Speaker 9: went on to work for Paul Allen, the founder of Microsoft,
- 52:58Speaker 9: and for red Bull after working for me. So hard
- 53:03Speaker 9: work is something everybody could do. You could do it
- 53:06Speaker 9: if you just had like an old rotary phone. And
- 53:09Speaker 9: we're still watching Jenny's DVD Fitness DVD back when we
- 53:12Speaker 9: used to do dial up internet and in facts. So
- 53:16Speaker 9: that's my secret.
- 53:27Speaker 3: Who has the first question here? I just heard that
- 53:29Speaker 3: there's somebody dying to ask a great question.
- 53:31Speaker 8: Oh you have a great question, A.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Great question, you know, spotlets on.
- 53:35Speaker 3: I've been told from people back there.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Oh, what's your name, Kristen?
- 53:40Speaker 7: My question is how do you quiet your brain at
- 53:42Speaker 7: night when you have so many things going on? Because
- 53:44Speaker 7: I don't have anything near what you have going on,
- 53:46Speaker 7: and I can never shut it off.
- 53:48Speaker 8: It's well, do you is the phone? Do you have?
- 53:50Speaker 9: Do you give yourself a discipline at the phone. I
- 53:52Speaker 9: don't buy the way everything I give you advice is
- 53:53Speaker 9: like wall. But let's just start with that. Do you
- 53:56Speaker 9: shut you shut the phone off?
- 53:58Speaker 7: No, I'm watching you on TikTok when you your honest
- 54:00Speaker 7: reviews of them, and.
- 54:01Speaker 9: I'm reviewing cottage. She's doing the lord's work. Yeah, I
- 54:05Speaker 9: mean it's very important. I'm snatching your face, picking your
- 54:08Speaker 9: hook glasses. Yeah. So I don't take anything when I'm traveling.
- 54:15Speaker 9: I'll take something like I'll take like an edible. I
- 54:17Speaker 9: don't know if that's illegal, but I take an edible
- 54:19Speaker 9: to sleep. I did last night call the cops, but
- 54:23Speaker 9: I don't. I'm not a person who wants to take anything.
- 54:25Speaker 9: I don't believe in that unless it's like really important.
- 54:27Speaker 9: I'm in another country. I have to sleep like this
- 54:30Speaker 9: is a different country. Flew an airplane. I told you
- 54:33Speaker 9: at home, I have this this herbal like lavender pillow
- 54:38Speaker 9: that you put in the micwave not on too long
- 54:41Speaker 9: and too high. You have to watch it like you're
- 54:43Speaker 9: watching a pot boil, because if it goes on too high,
- 54:45Speaker 9: it smells like burnt herbs. And then I'm next to
- 54:47Speaker 9: Paul and he's like where am I? Like, we're in
- 54:49Speaker 9: a freaking forest lavender fire in bed, But I don't
- 54:52Speaker 9: give a fuck because I have my nightguard and it's hot,
- 54:55Speaker 9: so and it literally is hot. So I take my
- 54:57Speaker 9: lavender thing and I put it in the thing mic
- 54:59Speaker 9: and I laid down and I pretend like I'm in
- 55:03Speaker 9: an institution.
- 55:04Speaker 8: Like okay, little bird.
- 55:06Speaker 9: Like I lay there and I just meditate and I
- 55:09Speaker 9: breathe in through my nose and out, and I like
- 55:11Speaker 9: do it in a circular emotion because you really can't
- 55:15Speaker 9: breathe in and out twenty times with that phone and asleep,
- 55:17Speaker 9: like if you really do, like a big one and
- 55:20Speaker 9: it calmed me. It's like it's like I've institutionalized myself at.
- 55:23Speaker 2: The end with essential oils.
- 55:25Speaker 9: It really works, Yeah, it does. But that's when the
- 55:28Speaker 9: phone has to Like you can't be like hearing the
- 55:30Speaker 9: buzz of the phone, like that's you gotta that. You
- 55:33Speaker 9: got to turn the phone off. Phone's evil, it's the devil.
- 55:36Speaker 9: It's the angel because it helps us do all these things.
- 55:39Speaker 9: But it's it's an appendage. It's it's the devil. So
- 55:43Speaker 9: get our app log on listen to our podcast.
- 55:47Speaker 11: You would ask too if we had your secret or
- 55:49Speaker 11: what we thought your secret might be. Right, So, I
- 55:51Speaker 11: think it's that you're very curious and I'm afraid to
- 55:54Speaker 11: take action when you see opportunity. Yes, so can you
- 55:57Speaker 11: talk a little bit kind of in the early days
- 55:59Speaker 11: of your career when you would find interesting ways, like
- 56:02Speaker 11: you talked about how you would find producers on TV
- 56:04Speaker 11: shows or kind of pitch yourself for your businesses.
- 56:06Speaker 9: And yes, I well, it's really I wrote a book
- 56:10Speaker 9: called A Place of Yes, and I'm a yes person.
- 56:12Speaker 9: I mean that doesn't mean I'm almost in a good
- 56:14Speaker 9: mood by any stretch. It means like I'm not really
- 56:18Speaker 9: into hearing about the this can happen in a roadblock,
- 56:22Speaker 9: and I'm not really If I think it's possible, then
- 56:25Speaker 9: it's probably possible. And so I used to I wanted
- 56:28Speaker 9: to be on a television show. I wanted to be
- 56:31Speaker 9: on the Food Network, and the head of the Food
- 56:33Speaker 9: Network told me it would never happen.
- 56:35Speaker 8: Bob Tushman can call him up.
- 56:37Speaker 9: Was probably in the Yellow Pages where he lives now,
- 56:39Speaker 9: because I think he's on fire.
- 56:40Speaker 8: But he's not because he didn't put me on.
- 56:42Speaker 9: I probably would have been canceled on the Food Network
- 56:44Speaker 9: with my language. But anyway, So I used to watch
- 56:48Speaker 9: television and.
- 56:50Speaker 8: You've heard of television right at least to right Antenna's.
- 56:54Speaker 9: So I used to watch television and I would see
- 56:56Speaker 9: the producers at the end and their names, and I
- 56:59Speaker 9: would just like call them because they have an office
- 57:02Speaker 9: and they have an assist. They're not It's not like
- 57:03Speaker 9: trying to call Obama. It's some schmuck who works in
- 57:06Speaker 9: office that produces, you know, schmucky Television's gonna get canceled anyway.
- 57:11Speaker 8: So I would go in and.
- 57:11Speaker 9: I would meet those schmucks and I would bring them
- 57:13Speaker 9: cookies and engage them and like a lot of them
- 57:16Speaker 9: actually wanted to do shows with me. It was again
- 57:18Speaker 9: the guy, the head guy said, stop coming in with
- 57:20Speaker 9: all these people. But the point is most people are accessible,
- 57:23Speaker 9: and if you're not annoying, like if you find a
- 57:27Speaker 9: way in and a find to connect and transact and
- 57:29Speaker 9: it's an email or it's on social media or it's
- 57:32Speaker 9: send them something, people are accessible and I'm gonna find
- 57:36Speaker 9: your way in kind of gal, like I'm gonna figure
- 57:38Speaker 9: it out kind of person. You know, we had people.
- 57:44Speaker 9: I'll I mean, I'll go to the head. I'll go,
- 57:46Speaker 9: who did I go to? Who's the guy who went
- 57:48Speaker 9: to the head of snap Yeah, I'm like, I'll find
- 57:49Speaker 9: out I don't know that guy the head of Snapchat.
- 57:51Speaker 9: And I know, yes, I'm successful now, but I acted
- 57:54Speaker 9: like this when I was couldn't afford the twenty five dollars. Yeah, like,
- 57:57Speaker 9: I'll go, I'll figure out, give me an email the
- 57:59Speaker 9: head snatch it, and like then, I mean, I'll talk
- 58:02Speaker 9: to anyone. I went up and pitch something last week
- 58:04Speaker 9: to Ted Sorando's who runs Netflix, one hundred and seventy
- 58:07Speaker 9: billion dollar company, and I'm going in to meet with them,
- 58:10Speaker 9: Like you gotta grab it.
- 58:11Speaker 8: It's there. I said to my daughter.
- 58:13Speaker 9: I took her to a concert last week here to
- 58:15Speaker 9: see Adam Sandler perform because she lives for him and
- 58:18Speaker 9: I know David Spade's manager, and they were all performing,
- 58:22Speaker 9: and I said to her head, you're gonna see Adam Sandler.
- 58:25Speaker 9: I can't guarantee you're gonna meet him. Like I, life
- 58:27Speaker 9: moves pretty fast around here. I cannot guarantee, And there's
- 58:30Speaker 9: only so much of a desperate loser. I'm willing to
- 58:32Speaker 9: be at a party of my peers. Like I was
- 58:34Speaker 9: literally next to Ted Serano standing and be like, hey
- 58:37Speaker 9: my god, I get like I was such a loser.
- 58:39Speaker 9: I'm like, this is not who I am, but you're
- 58:41Speaker 9: a loser when it comes to your kids. So I
- 58:43Speaker 9: said to her, listen, you have a plan. You don't
- 58:45Speaker 9: be like, oh my god, I love you. I said,
- 58:48Speaker 9: have a plan of what you're gonna say, Like, what
- 58:49Speaker 9: do you want to say? What do you think? I'm like,
- 58:51Speaker 9: here's something. What do you think about this? I love
- 58:53Speaker 9: how you put your friends in your family and your movies.
- 58:55Speaker 8: She's like, I like that.
- 58:56Speaker 9: That's so true because she told me that he puts
- 58:58Speaker 9: his friends in his family and his movies. So I said,
- 59:00Speaker 9: all right, that's a good hook.
- 59:01Speaker 8: He'll like that.
- 59:02Speaker 9: It's not like when people come up to me and
- 59:04Speaker 9: be like I don't know who you are, but my
- 59:06Speaker 9: wife likes you, Like, why don't you go fuck yourself.
- 59:08Speaker 8: And get a television?
- 59:10Speaker 9: So anyway, she so we were standing waiting for Adam
- 59:15Speaker 9: Sandler and he was standing there and I was like,
- 59:19Speaker 9: he's right here, we're I mean, I got her in
- 59:21Speaker 9: the I got her in the door. We're in the door.
- 59:22Speaker 9: Now we're in the elevator, so you got the person.
- 59:24Speaker 9: But he's right there. And I was like, just you're
- 59:26Speaker 9: a kid, You're so cute. You're thirteen years old.
- 59:28Speaker 8: Like it's fine. Kids could do anything. So walk up.
- 59:30Speaker 8: And she's like no, mama, no mama, no MoMA, like
- 59:32Speaker 8: in the mood.
- 59:32Speaker 9: And then he vanished and I was like, listen, that
- 59:35Speaker 9: was like the day we were at the beach when
- 59:37Speaker 9: you saw that girl and you wanted to make a friend,
- 59:38Speaker 9: and I said.
- 59:39Speaker 8: Just go say hello. Who cares? And if she's like I.
- 59:41Speaker 9: Don't want to, I'm like what if she says you're
- 59:44Speaker 9: ugly and a loser, I never want to speak to
- 59:45Speaker 9: you again. You never see her again anyway, But you
- 59:47Speaker 9: could be her best friend. You could be in her
- 59:49Speaker 9: wedding one day. So she didn't that day, and she
- 59:52Speaker 9: was sad because the girl left the beach, and I'm like,
- 59:53Speaker 9: you gotta grab it. So Adam Sandler walks back in
- 59:57Speaker 9: and then and I'm like, brient, I can't.
- 59:58Speaker 8: I don't know what to do.
- 59:59Speaker 9: She's like, mama, go, I'm like I can't, I can't,
- 1:00:01Speaker 9: like so he walks back and then he comes back
- 1:00:04Speaker 9: out and she walked right up and she like landed
- 1:00:06Speaker 9: stuck her landing landed her line. A tear came out
- 1:00:09Speaker 9: because he started talking to her.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: And I was like, wait, we got it.
- 1:00:13Speaker 9: So it's like you gotta go for it and grab it.
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: People are accessible, even Adam Sandler.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: Bethany, you are so not shy, You're so gutsy. What's
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: your advice for people who are a little bit more
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: just shy when when they're business owners?
- 1:00:32Speaker 9: There are people that are introverts that have to put
- 1:00:35Speaker 9: it on when they're out, And to be honest, it's
- 1:00:38Speaker 9: gonna be scary when you guys hear this. I don't
- 1:00:41Speaker 9: go out much. I don't I'm very insular. I don't
- 1:00:44Speaker 9: like engage in that much. Like I'm here, I'm fully
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: invested on with you guys, but like we're not all
- 1:00:48Speaker 9: going to a cocktail party after it because my brain
- 1:00:51Speaker 9: will explode because I give it all and like I
- 1:00:54Speaker 9: want to go get my like fuzzy socks on and
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: my lavender pillow that I actually had the Amazon parts.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: I forgot it and I had the spring a microwave
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: to the room because I'm a diva, like that about
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: my neck pillow. So I think that you have to
- 1:01:06Speaker 9: you gotta grab it. My daughter is not a complete extrovert,
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: but like she wanted, you want it, You're gonna have
- 1:01:11Speaker 9: to figure out a way mustard up in that moment,
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: like you're jumping out of that plane. You want Adam
- 1:01:14Speaker 9: Sandler and you want that tear to come down your cheek.
- 1:01:16Speaker 9: I can't do it for you, babe. You gotta go
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: get it. The ring is right there. You gotta grab it, though,
- 1:01:21Speaker 9: So like you have to just find your way. And
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: also being the loud mouth like me doesn't always work out.
- 1:01:29Speaker 9: That's not a lot that's not really a winning model
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: for many A lot of people really are looking to
- 1:01:34Speaker 9: the person that's listening. You know, you can feel someone
- 1:01:39Speaker 9: who's really interested or someone who's interesting.
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: It doesn't have to be that. You know.
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: It was funny because that night so many people were saying,
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: oh my god, your daughter, and she's so positive, and
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: she's so smiling, and she seems so happy, like people can.
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: You can be engaging in different ways, and I'm sure
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: you just sort of have to find out the way
- 1:01:58Speaker 9: that celebrities try to find their pose. I have no
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: idea my secret And I don't know how to pose,
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: but people do that. They like look in the mirror
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: and figure out their side, their good side through your
- 1:02:08Speaker 9: friends and family. Like figure out truthfully and honestly what
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: your skill set is. Even if you're an introvert, like
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: what you shine at and lead with that. I would say, like, really,
- 1:02:19Speaker 9: just figure that out and ask other people.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: We have two huge fans over here, your names.
- 1:02:26Speaker 8: And Chanel's T shirts.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you, thank you so much.
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: Your artwork, it's her art, that's beautiful. Thank you really nice.
- 1:02:35Speaker 14: Taking your advice and listening to your speech really motivated us.
- 1:02:39Speaker 14: And our question is how do we access you and
- 1:02:43Speaker 14: pitch to you.
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: What's your idea the art? What's your idea?
- 1:02:47Speaker 14: Yeah, we have a cosmetic company here in Los Angeles.
- 1:02:50Speaker 14: I do the artwork on all of the products, and
- 1:02:52Speaker 14: our mission is to connect art and beauty.
- 1:02:56Speaker 8: Nice. Yeah, we do my daughters and artists.
- 1:02:58Speaker 9: What's it called Janellica Genelica what it's a whole line
- 1:03:02Speaker 9: of makeup?
- 1:03:03Speaker 8: Yes, who put the money up? I thought you?
- 1:03:09Speaker 9: I literally thought I've been cursing and there are kids
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: here and that's your mom. Yes, even I really thought
- 1:03:16Speaker 9: there were kids here. I'm like, I'm in so much
- 1:03:17Speaker 9: trouble because I asked if I could curse and they said,
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: you guys would be cool with.
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: Cursing, are you It's a weird time to ask. Five
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: minutes befoward, is okay?
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: You know?
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: Did you bring the products today?
- 1:03:30Speaker 12: No?
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: We brought the fly the studium.
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: Okay, well you wearing the products.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Okay, they're wearing the makeup, but I.
- 1:03:39Speaker 9: Know, but I can't rub it off their face onto mine.
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: But but I would say, because it's happened on a
- 1:03:46Speaker 9: show I was, you can't.
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: You have to have that. I have makeup in my car.
- 1:03:50Speaker 9: I almost got canceled two weeks ago having makeup in
- 1:03:52Speaker 9: my car because I was giving it away.
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: To people at TJ Max.
- 1:03:55Speaker 9: But you have to have the makeup with you always,
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: like in a little gift bag like I literally gifts
- 1:04:00Speaker 9: in the back of my car for anyone who's nice
- 1:04:02Speaker 9: to me.
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: You knew? Did you know you were coming to see
- 1:04:04Speaker 8: me today?
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: Okay, well that's it.
- 1:04:06Speaker 9: Well you got to be you're like my daughter with
- 1:04:08Speaker 9: the we're here. You could have brought the bag up.
- 1:04:10Speaker 9: I would have seen it. We would have posted it.
- 1:04:12Speaker 9: So you'll have to send it to us. Yes, but
- 1:04:14Speaker 9: being prepared if you have to have those products with
- 1:04:16Speaker 9: you at all times, you never know who you're going
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: to run into.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Who went to Shark Tank this season, but.
- 1:04:21Speaker 8: You're on Shark Tank this we went to the casting Oh,
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: you tried to be on okay, but they.
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: I think it was too late.
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: It was too late. Did you have the products with
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: you there?
- 1:04:32Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:04:32Speaker 8: You did?
- 1:04:33Speaker 9: Okay, Janellica, the name is beautiful. Thank you, really congratulating
- 1:04:36Speaker 9: you both looked so beautiful.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: I appreciate this.
- 1:04:50Speaker 11: And one follow up question kind of on the notion
- 1:04:52Speaker 11: and not being afraid to kind of go for it.
- 1:04:54Speaker 11: So we get a lot of questions from small business
- 1:04:56Speaker 11: owners about how to think about content and go on
- 1:04:59Speaker 11: social media or they're kind of embarrassed that it's not produced.
- 1:05:02Speaker 11: But you've really been clear on this content to the
- 1:05:04Speaker 11: people going to move What advice.
- 1:05:06Speaker 8: Would you as I've been clear on what.
- 1:05:08Speaker 11: Sorry like content to the people just being like the authentic,
- 1:05:10Speaker 11: getting live, getting.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: In the front of people.
- 1:05:13Speaker 11: What advice would you give to people besides just do
- 1:05:15Speaker 11: it when it's kind of thinking about how to promote
- 1:05:18Speaker 11: themselves or their businesses.
- 1:05:19Speaker 9: On the well, you know, it's a very interesting, amazing
- 1:05:22Speaker 9: time now because it really is the wild wild West
- 1:05:24Speaker 9: of marketing. I would say, for the most part, if
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: you have a small business, a publicist would be a
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: waste of money. You could be your own publicist, You
- 1:05:35Speaker 9: could be your own marketing team, if you have the bandwidth,
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: if you have the I mean, if you have the
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: hours in the day, unless you're baking all the cookies
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: or whatever the business is. I think it's content to
- 1:05:48Speaker 9: the people is really the model. I mean, it's so
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: liberating and so freeing to be able to if you
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: have something to say, you can say it. Just find
- 1:05:57Speaker 9: the same way as you have to find your means
- 1:05:59Speaker 9: of connecting and conveying who you are, whatever your.
- 1:06:06Speaker 8: Strong suit is.
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: I would say, find a way to convey and communicate
- 1:06:12Speaker 9: through video, through social media, through comedy, through cooking, through
- 1:06:16Speaker 9: makeup videos. I mean, you've got it, can click, and
- 1:06:19Speaker 9: it's usually just by not trying so hard, like just
- 1:06:24Speaker 9: being yourself, just finding a way to be yourself. And
- 1:06:26Speaker 9: if you are insecure, and if you are an introvert,
- 1:06:30Speaker 9: talking about that, if you are failing and you are struggling,
- 1:06:33Speaker 9: talking about that, when you are winning talking about that.
- 1:06:35Speaker 9: I mean, I think people want to connect now. And
- 1:06:38Speaker 9: the pandemic was a strange time because everybody really got
- 1:06:42Speaker 9: so in got so introverted just by nature of I
- 1:06:46Speaker 9: mean last night we had a dinner and everyone said, like,
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: oh my god, we're out. It's almost like we're still
- 1:06:51Speaker 9: we haven't adjusted back. So I feel like people want
- 1:06:57Speaker 9: to connect with each other. I'm finding that people want
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: to connect with each a lot. I found that last night,
- 1:07:01Speaker 9: and I was shocked. People really wanted to and everyone
- 1:07:03Speaker 9: wants to talk about their business and ideas. So you
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: have to find a way to connect and convey. And
- 1:07:09Speaker 9: it's very very powerful and no one can stop you,
- 1:07:11Speaker 9: and no one can edit you, and no one has
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: to distribute. You don't have to watch television and look
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: for those producers to call them. I don't need to
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: do that. No matter what I want to say, I
- 1:07:21Speaker 9: get to say it. And you could say that it's
- 1:07:23Speaker 9: because I already have a following, But I started on
- 1:07:27Speaker 9: YouTube with two thousand followers a couple of years ago,
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: and that's a whole group of other people like I don't.
- 1:07:32Speaker 8: Jenny was talking about QVC.
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: That's a different group of people like it's just a
- 1:07:35Speaker 9: different audience. There's so many audiences that you could find
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: an audience that your friend. You could have millions of
- 1:07:42Speaker 9: followers or thousands of followers that your friend has no
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: idea what world you're in. That's why it's so fascinating. Like,
- 1:07:48Speaker 9: if you were living on YouTube, you're living in a
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: different planet. If you're living on beauty Talk, you're living
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: in a different planet, food Talk, Instagram, Like, it's just
- 1:07:56Speaker 9: so many different choices of how to connect and communicate
- 1:07:59Speaker 9: that I think it's really open, but you should focus.
- 1:08:02Speaker 9: You can't try to please everybody. If you try to
- 1:08:04Speaker 9: please everybody, you'll please nobody.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: We have time for probably two more questions.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: Hands all right, go over here. Hello, what is your name?
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: My name is Laura.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Hi, Laura. What's your question?
- 1:08:22Speaker 10: I wanted to know if you could touch on people
- 1:08:25Speaker 10: who maybe want to do something so bad that they
- 1:08:28Speaker 10: could come off desperate as opposed to confident, being assertive
- 1:08:33Speaker 10: versus being needy when you want things to happen with
- 1:08:36Speaker 10: your business.
- 1:08:38Speaker 9: It's the same way as it is in dating. If
- 1:08:41Speaker 9: you are people can smell the thirst, people can smell
- 1:08:44Speaker 9: blood in the water. The person having the most fun
- 1:08:47Speaker 9: is the most attractive. The person who's naturally confident. You
- 1:08:51Speaker 9: have to find your natural confidence or just if it's
- 1:08:54Speaker 9: like I say about everything, if you don't know what
- 1:08:56Speaker 9: to do, sit still so people we'll get can be
- 1:09:02Speaker 9: a lot and the best advice is to just take
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: a couple of deep breaths and relax and pretend you're
- 1:09:09Speaker 9: in a bar, and who do you who would you
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: be like the person who's just engaging and having fun
- 1:09:15Speaker 9: and comfortable in.
- 1:09:16Speaker 8: Their own skin.
- 1:09:17Speaker 9: Where the person who everybody knows like wants it so badly,
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: like you know, whoever you're trying to attract, would they'd.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Be like.
- 1:09:27Speaker 9: This bitch wants a ring tonight and I'm scared, you know,
- 1:09:32Speaker 9: so I would just chill.
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, we have one more right over here?
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Hello too much?
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: What's your name?
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: Mary?
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: Yes, we talked earlier.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: Mary.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: Hello there, Yes, what's your question for Bethany?
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Well?
- 1:09:49Speaker 13: Quick, I just want to make sure that I just
- 1:09:51Speaker 13: say your work with be Strong Doing be Strong is
- 1:09:54Speaker 13: the most inspiring thing I've probably ever seen in my life.
- 1:09:57Speaker 13: And I just wanted to make sure someone said that you.
- 1:09:59Speaker 8: Oh, that's out of nice.
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: We're working where we have a relief effort called be strong.
- 1:10:05Speaker 9: And we work in natural disasters and we did a
- 1:10:09Speaker 9: lot in the Ppe crisis, and war is very different
- 1:10:13Speaker 9: because there's no end in sight to it, so like
- 1:10:16Speaker 9: there's a hurricane. And I know this wasn't your question,
- 1:10:18Speaker 9: but I just I'm glad you brought it up because
- 1:10:19Speaker 9: it's important time right now where it's great to talk
- 1:10:22Speaker 9: about the pumpkin spice latte and TikTok dances, but there
- 1:10:25Speaker 9: is a war and it's very divisive and it's very scary,
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: and it would be it's like business in the same
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: It is not for profit business, but it's it's as important.
- 1:10:34Speaker 9: It's more important than business. It's literally life or death,
- 1:10:37Speaker 9: and you have to make difficult decisions and you have
- 1:10:39Speaker 9: to think about how to connect and convey and to
- 1:10:41Speaker 9: write a post about something and stay present in it
- 1:10:45Speaker 9: and stay passionate about something when every single celebrity is
- 1:10:48Speaker 9: terrified to do so. I mean, no one will talk
- 1:10:51Speaker 9: about it. And I know because the publicists are saying,
- 1:10:53Speaker 9: shut up, don't say a thing. And I'm like that
- 1:10:57Speaker 9: say with thoughts and prayers they say it. I'm like
- 1:10:59Speaker 9: that is, but it's not that easy because you're trying
- 1:11:03Speaker 9: to convey something. You're trying to hear every side and
- 1:11:07Speaker 9: you're trying to save lives, so it's important for me
- 1:11:09Speaker 9: to talk about what we're doing. And it takes a
- 1:11:11Speaker 9: lot of thought. That's when like it's as hard as
- 1:11:15Speaker 9: like your business is going under, Like you have to
- 1:11:17Speaker 9: hold the steering wheel and not hold too tight as
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: you were talking about appearing, but you can't let go.
- 1:11:23Speaker 9: You are driving the car and you are just trying
- 1:11:25Speaker 9: to like on a rainy scary road, like control of
- 1:11:29Speaker 9: the car, but not like go. Like it's very hard,
- 1:11:31Speaker 9: and that's what it's been like. But I'm sorry that
- 1:11:32Speaker 9: was an interruption to.
- 1:11:33Speaker 13: Your miss No, it's not an interruption at Oh, thank you.
- 1:11:36Speaker 13: My question though, is I know you've gone through some
- 1:11:40Speaker 13: some tougher times you have followed your career for a
- 1:11:42Speaker 13: long time. I'm actually just kind of coming out of
- 1:11:44Speaker 13: one myself a couple of years of a really tough
- 1:11:47Speaker 13: medical thing, and in that time, I wrote a Christmas
- 1:11:49Speaker 13: musical and I'm starting to do better and I'm trying
- 1:11:51Speaker 13: to kind of re enter the world again, kind of
- 1:11:53Speaker 13: get that moving, and it's actually really hard, Like like
- 1:11:58Speaker 13: before I got sick, I was kind of identified with
- 1:12:01Speaker 13: you more. I was very go get or very you know,
- 1:12:04Speaker 13: not afraid of anything. But it's a little bit a
- 1:12:06Speaker 13: bit harder now. I just feel more delicate. And I
- 1:12:09Speaker 13: just don't know if you ever dealt with that kind
- 1:12:11Speaker 13: of when you were kind of coming out of harder times,
- 1:12:13Speaker 13: if there was things that like I don't know, like
- 1:12:17Speaker 13: like mottos or anything like that that you had that
- 1:12:19Speaker 13: kind of helped you get your like fireback.
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: Like I'm glad you asked that because it reminded me
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: of something that's really important. Because I am an you know,
- 1:12:25Speaker 9: intense passionate person. But the best ideas come. My best
- 1:12:30Speaker 9: ideas come between sleep and wake and during times when
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: I've been home, like just doing yoga or just relaxing
- 1:12:38Speaker 9: or just hanging with my dogs or being with my daughter.
- 1:12:40Speaker 9: The ideas come when you allow to relax. So anytime
- 1:12:43Speaker 9: someone's going through something, whether they're sick or they had surgery,
- 1:12:46Speaker 9: everybody wants to like control the process and like, oh
- 1:12:49Speaker 9: but I can't work out for this song And I
- 1:12:50Speaker 9: always see and this is the this is the real secret.
- 1:12:54Speaker 9: That was a scam, that was fake news, that other secret.
- 1:12:56Speaker 9: This is the real secret, the real sea I had
- 1:12:59Speaker 9: to work this through with you guys.
- 1:13:01Speaker 8: Is that I.
- 1:13:03Speaker 9: When I failed and got knocked down so many times
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: when I was when I was the runner up on
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: the Apprentice, No, and I didn't even make it onto
- 1:13:10Speaker 9: the Apprentice after a week of being sequestered. I was
- 1:13:13Speaker 9: always like, knock yourself down and brush yourself off. But
- 1:13:16Speaker 9: then I always would be positive and make meaning out
- 1:13:20Speaker 9: of the failure or the thing or the surgery or
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: the illness, like then I'm gonna learn about this, so
- 1:13:25Speaker 9: then this means I'm gonna rest more. Then this means
- 1:13:27Speaker 9: my skin's gonna be better because I'm not drinking or I'm
- 1:13:31Speaker 9: home breathing and relaxing, like make meaning out of what's
- 1:13:34Speaker 9: actually happening, which is really being present. And then and
- 1:13:37Speaker 9: that's what the pandemic also did. People found instead of panic,
- 1:13:40Speaker 9: like deer in headlights, they shook the snow globe up
- 1:13:43Speaker 9: and we're like, where else are the fish? And this
- 1:13:46Speaker 9: is why the whole content to the people and why
- 1:13:48Speaker 9: my podcast exploded and all because I wasn't like just
- 1:13:51Speaker 9: looking at this one thing that had to happen. You know,
- 1:13:53Speaker 9: Stacy's peda chips, who I bring up all the time
- 1:13:56Speaker 9: was a sandwich cart, and they knew that they had
- 1:13:59Speaker 9: to have extra because that's one thing you can't run
- 1:14:01Speaker 9: out of.
- 1:14:01Speaker 8: They could run out of.
- 1:14:02Speaker 9: Other things, but to make sandwiches, arguably, you have to
- 1:14:05Speaker 9: have bread unless you're eating in and out burgers and
- 1:14:08Speaker 9: lettuce and then don't calm here, it's supiculous. So because
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: that's not a sandwich, lettuce and burger is not a
- 1:14:15Speaker 9: sand that's not a sandwich. But anyway, we can fight
- 1:14:17Speaker 9: that out in the comments. So uh again, I forgot
- 1:14:20Speaker 9: I was gonna say, I was telling you a secret.
- 1:14:22Speaker 9: So those are the times when you really like, oh
- 1:14:25Speaker 9: so Stacey's. So they ended up making the make the bread,
- 1:14:29Speaker 9: the extra bread in the winter and to pita chips,
- 1:14:31Speaker 9: and they ended up selling for two hundred and fifty
- 1:14:33Speaker 9: million dollars because they were looking at the sandwiches, but
- 1:14:35Speaker 9: the fish were where the chips are. So whatever you're
- 1:14:38Speaker 9: going through, find the fish. Like, you don't have to
- 1:14:41Speaker 9: be one hundred percent. You could be working smarter, not harder,
- 1:14:45Speaker 9: Like find what this means in your life and be
- 1:14:48Speaker 9: present in it and lean into it. And you don't
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: need to be who you were before the world has
- 1:14:54Speaker 9: changed since before. Anyway, you're who you are now, So
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: be present in that and make meaning out of it.
- 1:15:01Speaker 9: Like really when it's a failure, like find the yes
- 1:15:05Speaker 9: and the failure, because that's when I really thrive. When
- 1:15:07Speaker 9: the ship hits the fan, when we're sending thirteen million
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: dollars in Ppe to Cuomo and I realized that I
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: think the people are criminals and they're scamming us and
- 1:15:13Speaker 9: it's counterfeit Ppe, and I need to get myself a
- 1:15:16Speaker 9: diaper deal like Chris Jenner did.
- 1:15:18Speaker 8: I Uh.
- 1:15:20Speaker 9: I was like, that's when you get like real tight,
- 1:15:23Speaker 9: and like that's when you have to solve the problems.
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: And that's when you learn when it's like not easy.
- 1:15:29Speaker 9: You don't learn when it's going good. You learn when
- 1:15:31Speaker 9: it's like, okay, now's a chance to really learn.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: So have they asked you to be a panelist on
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Shark Tank yet?
- 1:15:38Speaker 8: I was, oh, you were, yeah a couple of times.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it's been there, done that.
- 1:15:42Speaker 9: Whoops, didn't do my research, now, dude, any I didn't
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: research you either.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: Don't you are serious?
- 1:15:48Speaker 8: Amy didn't tell me I had to it.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: All right, Well, seriously, you are a legendary boss woman
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: and I have been honored to be in your presence
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: for this chat and everybody else backstage, come on Outay.

- 1:16:05Speaker 4: Thank you so much everyone for coming.
- 1:16:08Speaker 8: It's gorgeous.
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: I love anything green, obviously, this is so pretty.
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: Yes, I want this p putting this in my purse. Yeah,
- 1:16:16Speaker 9: and I want the picture.
