Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: Oh, here we go.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Pete Fairbanks joining us right now, heading into the big
- 0:11Speaker 2: opening weekend for the Marlins. They'll face the Rockies.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Pete.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Great to have you on, dude. What's the excitement level
- 0:16Speaker 2: and the weirdness level for you to be doing this
- 0:19Speaker 2: with a different team.
- 0:21Speaker 3: It's a little it's a little different.
- 0:22Speaker 4: You know, you spend what six opening days in Navy
- 0:26Speaker 4: blue and now it's changed a little bit.
- 0:28Speaker 3: But you know, the vibes are high.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Everybody's seeming to have a great time, and my personal
- 0:33Speaker 4: excitement level it's through the roof.
- 0:36Speaker 3: After hearing AJ's HelloFresh ad read, I'm just.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Blown away by his ability to convey emotion through those words.
- 0:46Speaker 1: That makes you hungry?
- 0:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say. It definitely makes you want
- 0:50Speaker 5: to go home and make a meal, doesn't it.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Nothing says try a new recipe like that? Like that read?
- 0:58Speaker 3: It was unbelievable.
- 1:00Speaker 5: All right, So what is most exciting about your opening
- 1:04Speaker 5: day with this team? Is it the fact that you
- 1:06Speaker 5: know how to say Sandy's last name? Or is it
- 1:08Speaker 5: the fact that you are out there in a bullpen,
- 1:11Speaker 5: sitting there going I'm.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Gonna get in this game.
- 1:15Speaker 5: I want to kind of see I want to kind
- 1:16Speaker 5: of see Phillips getting this game and punch himself in
- 1:19Speaker 5: the face.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Oh man, you know, I try to divert my eyes
- 1:27Speaker 4: whenever he starts inflicting self harm.
- 1:31Speaker 3: But you know, people got to do what they gotta do.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I suppose.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited. Really, you know, it's the over the
- 1:37Speaker 4: over and like arcing, just the vibes of it. You know,
- 1:40Speaker 4: you got a new season start, and thankfully somebody realized
- 1:44Speaker 4: that if you have a dome, you don't have to
- 1:46Speaker 4: play on Thursday and then have a Friday off day.
- 1:50Speaker 4: So I think that that's just you know, propelling us
- 1:52Speaker 4: with all these good decisions to an opening day.
- 1:56Speaker 2: There you go, Hey, did you follow the Raised game yesterday?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Like did you watch any of it? And then, of course,
- 2:03Speaker 2: do you think during the year you'll keep track of
- 2:06Speaker 2: the race based on your history with them and your friends?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Like, how does that go?
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah? I think in general you track where you're what
- 2:15Speaker 3: your buddies are doing.
- 2:16Speaker 4: If you play for guys for a while, you know
- 2:18Speaker 4: you're don't want to see see how they're doing. Obviously,
- 2:20Speaker 4: Rass made his first opening day start, so I felt
- 2:23Speaker 4: like I was I was going to check into that
- 2:25Speaker 4: one regardless. But yeah, like if Jay's throwing in out
- 2:29Speaker 4: in San Diego, or you got guys throughout the league whenever,
- 2:31Speaker 4: like spring starts, you know, stuff like that, You're always
- 2:34Speaker 4: checking in maybe maybe watching it ining or two see
- 2:37Speaker 4: how things are going.
- 2:39Speaker 6: I know when I when I first played, I set
- 2:42Speaker 6: goals aside and I would send a letter to my brothers.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Is there anything goals wise that you're expecting out of
- 2:47Speaker 6: yourself right now? Is there something that you do before
- 2:49Speaker 6: the season starts that nobody would ever expect or is
- 2:53Speaker 6: it just put my glove on, put my socks on
- 2:55Speaker 6: the same way, and get out there and see what
- 2:57Speaker 6: I can do.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, you know, you always have benchmarks that
- 3:02Speaker 4: you want to hit, right in terms of you know,
- 3:06Speaker 4: the obvious ones with the counting stats, right, you want
- 3:08Speaker 4: to hit your counting stat goals.
- 3:11Speaker 3: But I mean, honestly, at this point.
- 3:14Speaker 4: You know, I think the people that I've been around
- 3:17Speaker 4: in my career that have really got me into the
- 3:21Speaker 4: process and focusing on the things that you because you
- 3:23Speaker 4: can't control your counting stats, right if you're a hitter,
- 3:25Speaker 4: you can't control if you're going to have six guys
- 3:28Speaker 4: on for your three at bats that day, or if
- 3:30Speaker 4: you're gonna have nobody on right and that's gonna that's
- 3:32Speaker 4: gonna affect your state total throughout the year. So it's
- 3:35Speaker 4: just to focus on the stuff that I can control, feeling,
- 3:39Speaker 4: you know, in tune and being able to show up
- 3:41Speaker 4: to the ballpark, be the same guy every day, and
- 3:43Speaker 4: really focus on the work throughout. That's that's been my
- 3:48Speaker 4: you know, my standard that I'm trying to hold myself
- 3:50Speaker 4: to and it'll be no different this year.
- 3:52Speaker 5: So as a bullpen, have you guys choreographed like your
- 3:56Speaker 5: your stick? Have you guys choreographed You're gonna walk out.
- 3:59Speaker 1: In a line.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Bender is going to be first, Fauchet is going to
- 4:03Speaker 5: be behind you, Phillips is gonna do cartwheels. Is that
- 4:06Speaker 5: kind of stuff discussed or does it happen organically?
- 4:12Speaker 4: You know, I have not been out in the first
- 4:15Speaker 4: in quite a while, And obviously opening day throws a
- 4:18Speaker 4: big wrinkle because you've got to put every single or
- 4:23Speaker 4: organizational staff member out on the line say their name.
- 4:28Speaker 4: So it's definitely definitely a little weirder on opening day.
- 4:30Speaker 4: But you know, I'm planning on showing up after the
- 4:32Speaker 4: bottom of the fourth just about every day, and on
- 4:36Speaker 4: the ones, on the ones that don't have a backway
- 4:39Speaker 4: to the bullpen, I'll go through the field and if
- 4:40Speaker 4: it's got a back way, you will not see me
- 4:42Speaker 4: on the field until I potentially pitch that night.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Hey, now that it's here, how excited are you to
- 4:49Speaker 2: actually be involved in real regular season games that have
- 4:53Speaker 2: the ABS challenge system? And of course I would also
- 4:56Speaker 2: like your take on something that went viral a few
- 4:58Speaker 2: days ago, the amount of play who now have stat
- 5:01Speaker 2: pages with one, two or even three inches off of
- 5:05Speaker 2: their prior height.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I think it'll be I think it'll be good, and
- 5:11Speaker 4: mainly it will be good for the one that I
- 5:13Speaker 4: saw to start off whatever spring training name that was
- 5:16Speaker 4: of a absolute box five middle middle heater that got bald.
- 5:22Speaker 4: So eliminate those I actually and the ones that I see.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I didn't see a ton of challenges yesterday. Maybe it
- 5:28Speaker 4: says I didn't watch enough baseball, but I think it'll
- 5:31Speaker 4: be good. And it's it's nice too. Uh, it's nice
- 5:35Speaker 4: to see the deflation.
- 5:36Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:37Speaker 4: On a personal level, I remember people you know that
- 5:39Speaker 4: I've played basketball with that were like a clear five
- 5:42Speaker 4: eleven and you looked at their roster and at their
- 5:44Speaker 4: roster measurements and their six two, so you know, it's
- 5:48Speaker 4: it's nice to see that it was no different at
- 5:51Speaker 4: the big lead level than it was in the suburban
- 5:53Speaker 4: south and Saint Louis, Missouri.
- 5:56Speaker 2: This is it Kratz opening weekend of the season. And
- 6:00Speaker 2: if you're looking for tickets for an MLB game and
- 6:03Speaker 2: they're either sold out or you're just a little bit
- 6:05Speaker 2: lost and you need some help, see Geek is there
- 6:09Speaker 2: for you. It's not just a spot where you buy
- 6:11Speaker 2: the tickets. Is where you feel good about buying the
- 6:13Speaker 2: tickets because they have your back with their features and.
- 6:16Speaker 5: You know you're going to get a good price. That's
- 6:18Speaker 5: that's the deal that everybody's looking for. But especially early
- 6:21Speaker 5: in the season up here in the Northeast, you kind
- 6:24Speaker 5: of want to go to a day game where you're
- 6:25Speaker 5: still going to be in the sun. It might shift
- 6:28Speaker 5: during the summer, but hey, you know what, seeke will
- 6:30Speaker 5: let you know exactly where you're sitting and if it's
- 6:32Speaker 5: a good spot to watch the game.
- 6:34Speaker 1: That's right.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Each ticket is rated on a scale of one to ten,
- 6:36Speaker 2: so you know you're getting a good deal. So look
- 6:38Speaker 2: for the green dots. Green means good, red means bad.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And of course we have a code for you. You
- 6:42Speaker 2: can use code Territory ten for ten percent off your
- 6:45Speaker 2: next set of tickets at Sea Geek. That's ten percent
- 6:47Speaker 2: off any tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make
- 6:51Speaker 2: sure you click the link in the description to download
- 6:53Speaker 2: the app and have the code automatically added to your
- 6:55Speaker 2: account so you can use it later.
- 6:57Speaker 5: I think that's I think that's true. What else do
- 6:59Speaker 5: you base players lie about? Because I think it's trash
- 7:02Speaker 5: if somebody lies about your height because you're you're just
- 7:05Speaker 5: it's like, it's not something you need to lie about.
- 7:07Speaker 5: You are what you are, Like, that's it, Like I
- 7:10Speaker 5: can't lie that I have I'm bald, Okay, their height
- 7:13Speaker 5: is your height.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So what else do baseball players lie about?
- 7:16Speaker 4: I think the biggest, by far, the biggest is when
- 7:19Speaker 4: we get asked how we're feeling and we say good.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Probably probably a little bit of fibbing going on there
- 7:28Speaker 4: every day, especially amongst you know, pictures. We we tend
- 7:34Speaker 4: to say that we're good when we are in fact
- 7:37Speaker 4: far from it. But uh, I'd say that's probably that's
- 7:39Speaker 4: probably the biggest is how you're feeling good and you're
- 7:43Speaker 4: they watched your catch play and you're throwing it sixty
- 7:45Speaker 4: four miles an hour to try and get it there
- 7:47Speaker 4: at sixty feet and they're like, this guy's lying through
- 7:50Speaker 4: his teeth.
- 7:52Speaker 6: They listen, we all got a fib a little bit.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I mean, who's gonna say that. They don't go good
- 7:57Speaker 3: unless unless.
- 7:58Speaker 6: You've got blood coming from your arm or you out
- 8:00Speaker 6: of broken arm. But like, I'm all right, now, are you?
- 8:03Speaker 6: Are you a nap guy before the game?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Like?
- 8:05Speaker 6: Is there anything you do before a game before you
- 8:07Speaker 6: get out there? Not a nap guynutes?
- 8:12Speaker 3: I don't know what it is. I've never been good
- 8:14Speaker 3: at napping. I do usually read for thirty minutes pregame.
- 8:19Speaker 4: That's my kind of my mental clarity time, get everything
- 8:23Speaker 4: you know, sue the edges out and get everything nice
- 8:26Speaker 4: and re last before I really start trying to lock it.
- 8:28Speaker 3: In once the game gets going.
- 8:31Speaker 1: What are you reading right now?
- 8:34Speaker 3: I'm rereading Dune.
- 8:36Speaker 4: I started Messiah again because obviously the big trailer for
- 8:39Speaker 4: Dune Part three dropped, So I'm ripping through Massaia again
- 8:43Speaker 4: and then I'll probably read some of the spin offs
- 8:45Speaker 4: just depends on my level of locked into that. As
- 8:50Speaker 4: as we hit the we hit the hype train for
- 8:52Speaker 4: the upcoming movie.
- 8:53Speaker 5: When you read, when you reread a book, because I
- 8:57Speaker 5: am not a rereader of books, do you skip over
- 8:59Speaker 5: parts you know are slow to get to the good parts?
- 9:04Speaker 3: Not usually.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I am a very fast reader, so there's always a
- 9:09Speaker 4: chance that I missed something in my in my prior
- 9:12Speaker 4: read of it. But I think it's it's definitely interesting
- 9:16Speaker 4: to go back on a reread, regardless of what it is,
- 9:19Speaker 4: and just to see what stands out a second time
- 9:23Speaker 4: versus what you picked up on more so like the
- 9:25Speaker 4: first time. So it's definitely interesting to see, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 4: how that how that works. And then it's also like
- 9:32Speaker 4: in for the Dunes series, it's interesting to go back
- 9:37Speaker 4: six books where you're first introduced to a couple of
- 9:39Speaker 4: characters and you kind of you know, get to see
- 9:42Speaker 4: how that their their plot lines and their their storylines unfold.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Let's make sure we point out your humble brag. Hmm,
- 9:50Speaker 5: I'm a fast reader. Let's let's let's let's pump the
- 9:54Speaker 5: brakes on that. Okay, so like are that there's no, yes,
- 9:59Speaker 5: I'm a super slow reader.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Terrible reader.
- 10:02Speaker 2: There's a way to test that test.
- 10:05Speaker 5: There's a stat cast. How fast are you? How fast
- 10:08Speaker 5: can you read?
- 10:09Speaker 2: We put both of you wet, both of you down
- 10:12Speaker 2: in a vacuum, in the same kind of scenario, right
- 10:14Speaker 2: at a table, and we say, hey, read three chapters.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Let us know when you're done, and then we'll test
- 10:17Speaker 2: you on it. And if you pass both path the test.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And Pete got the three chapters done five minutes quicker
- 10:23Speaker 2: than you, then he was quicker.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Do you read each individual word or do you read
- 10:29Speaker 4: a sentence, or do you read a paragraph, or do
- 10:31Speaker 4: you read a page?
- 10:32Speaker 5: If the words aren't bouncing off the page, then I'll
- 10:36Speaker 5: read each individual word. If they're bouncing off the page,
- 10:38Speaker 5: I just got to skip to the next page, and
- 10:40Speaker 5: I hope I catch up to what was happening.
- 10:45Speaker 2: They're bouncing off the page, then I don't know.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You might have used code foul.
- 10:48Speaker 2: For something to get a little uh, you get a
- 10:52Speaker 2: little extra life anyway. Sorry, krats infiltrating.
- 10:56Speaker 1: No, No, you're good. You're good. All that to be said?
- 11:00Speaker 5: Are you just about the Mande movie and a new
- 11:02Speaker 5: Mando move Mandalorian movie coming out or is that kind
- 11:05Speaker 5: of just on the back burner for you right now
- 11:07Speaker 5: because it's opening day and you want to stay looked in.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Honestly, I've been basically all of the New Star Wars
- 11:16Speaker 4: stuff has not done it for me. I've just maybe
- 11:19Speaker 4: it's you know, I'm older now, I'm not as locked in.
- 11:23Speaker 4: The only thing that I do need to go I
- 11:24Speaker 4: need to see Project Till Mary. Still it's a great book, hopefully.
- 11:30Speaker 4: I've seen that. The movie was great and it did
- 11:32Speaker 4: a pretty good job, though they missed a couple of
- 11:34Speaker 4: important plot points. But other than that, that's about all
- 11:37Speaker 4: that I'm locked into right now.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Okay, there you go. We got a couple more questions
- 11:41Speaker 2: for Pete. Wow, this timing worked out perfectly.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Pete.
- 11:44Speaker 2: We are on TV. You're seeing like the whole deal
- 11:46Speaker 2: today we're on TV. By to the Marquee crowd. Have
- 11:49Speaker 2: fun with the Nicol Hornet press conference, all right, and
- 11:52Speaker 2: we continue here.
- 11:53Speaker 3: That was that was good?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Well, there's money flying right right now. Yeah, lots of
- 12:00Speaker 2: extensions and there was a TV crowd that had to
- 12:02Speaker 2: go do their thing. Okay, a couple more here at
- 12:04Speaker 2: the finish line, Can you give us a glimpse of
- 12:07Speaker 2: what to expect with the Marlins and what you've seen
- 12:09Speaker 2: now for spring training in terms of some of the
- 12:11Speaker 2: young talent that they've got, and also just in terms
- 12:14Speaker 2: of some of the similarities and the differences from the Rays.
- 12:19Speaker 2: The funny thing to me is they get like the
- 12:21Speaker 2: very clear cut, Hey, Marlins have brought in some people
- 12:25Speaker 2: from the Rays led by Peter Bendix. You're one of
- 12:27Speaker 2: the few guys that now has gotten to see both
- 12:30Speaker 2: shades here. So do you see it like do you
- 12:32Speaker 2: see this next young, great raised team that you were
- 12:36Speaker 2: a part of five years ago?
- 12:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the similarities they're definitely there, you know.
- 12:43Speaker 4: And I think that you know, with a you know,
- 12:46Speaker 4: a budget constraint and how you have to build out
- 12:49Speaker 4: the team and how you can't miss you know, I
- 12:50Speaker 4: can definitely see you.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Know, the shades of that.
- 12:54Speaker 4: As far as what to expect, I think we got
- 12:55Speaker 4: a lot of guys that are played with a lot
- 12:58Speaker 4: of energy and a lot of you know, hopefully, I'm
- 13:03Speaker 4: gonna drop it now that that we're going I don't
- 13:06Speaker 4: know why that giant alert just popped up. I'm gonna
- 13:09Speaker 4: put it out there. I'm gonna put my I'm throwing
- 13:12Speaker 4: my hat early. I'm gonna give We're gonna go Connor
- 13:14Speaker 4: Norby pump today. Right, We're gonna put it out in
- 13:17Speaker 4: the world and if he lets me down, he'll never
- 13:20Speaker 4: hear the end of it.
- 13:23Speaker 5: You're throwing your hat in a ring first day because
- 13:25Speaker 5: in the bullpen people might not know. You throw your
- 13:28Speaker 5: hat out and you and you call your shot. Are
- 13:31Speaker 5: you good at that? Are you good at that? Or
- 13:33Speaker 5: are you just like Junior Camonaro and you just figure
- 13:36Speaker 5: you'll be you'll be right, Like a third.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Of the time we uh, we went through it. We
- 13:43Speaker 3: used to have a little trophy.
- 13:44Speaker 4: That we would we would give it to whoever had
- 13:47Speaker 4: it had the most recent call. And there was a
- 13:51Speaker 4: stretch in which I hit very early and then we
- 13:55Speaker 4: did not successfully call a home run for like two
- 13:57Speaker 4: and a half months. So you know, maybe we were
- 14:01Speaker 4: just betting on the wrong horses. But you know, we've
- 14:06Speaker 4: there seems to be people that are good out of it,
- 14:08Speaker 4: good at it, like Edwin Ucetta, and there are people
- 14:10Speaker 4: who are bad at it, like Garrett Clevenger. You know,
- 14:13Speaker 4: it's all all it just depends on which horse you're
- 14:16Speaker 4: back in that day.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Okay, that's good. That's good. Last one from me, super Rando.
- 14:22Speaker 5: You're in Miami. Did you go out and touch the
- 14:26Speaker 5: sculpture the home run? Well it's not now the home
- 14:29Speaker 5: it's just the Marlin sculpture.
- 14:33Speaker 4: No, that thank you for reminding me, though. I got
- 14:35Speaker 4: to go out there and see it one of these days.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Maybe show up early. Take a selfie with the Marlin statue.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Take a selfie and make sure a selfie is just
- 14:44Speaker 5: with you in it, because some people call selfies with
- 14:46Speaker 5: other people in it.
- 14:47Speaker 1: That is not a selfie.
- 14:49Speaker 3: It's a nussy. Yeah, it's an ussy. Yeah. Shout out
- 14:52Speaker 3: to that posh kid. Shout out to that posh kid
- 14:54Speaker 3: from ted Lasso.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Hey, you're a jam. Great to got up with you
- 15:00Speaker 2: before the big weekend. Have fun with him, dude, we'll
- 15:02Speaker 2: be watching. We'll catch you soon.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Appreciate it, guys, Thank you.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Hey, it might be time to have a heart to
- 15:09Speaker 2: heart with your phone and be like, I love you,
- 15:12Speaker 2: but you cost too much.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not paying this much anymore. That's it.

- 16:07Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 16:08Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 16:10Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 16:12Speaker 2: That's what he said. We have so many shows and
- 16:17Speaker 2: so many guests that joined those shows, so we'll try
- 16:20Speaker 2: and keep serving them up to you throughout the season,
- 16:23Speaker 2: and let's go to Halo Territory. Gary di Sarcina joined
- 16:27Speaker 2: those guys and said.
- 16:29Speaker 1: This.
- 16:31Speaker 3: My time with the Mets. I got to coach third base.
- 16:33Speaker 7: My last three years there, and I got to know
- 16:35Speaker 7: Anthony and we played them, what sixteen seventeen times a year,
- 16:40Speaker 7: and he never missed any games and he was always
- 16:42Speaker 7: out there. Had a good relationship with him, talked to
- 16:45Speaker 7: him about pretty much everything buck baseball. I'd ask him,
- 16:49Speaker 7: you know, how can you rate Jacob deGrom? Nobody hits him? Well,
- 16:52Speaker 7: how do you do it? And he wouldn't. He just
- 16:54Speaker 7: kind of have the self deprecating humor, and he was
- 16:58Speaker 7: just like I just always had this respect for as
- 17:00Speaker 7: a person. I could tell like, I'm like, God, this
- 17:02Speaker 7: guy's so successful, and I could see the reason he's
- 17:04Speaker 7: successful is because he has other things going on in
- 17:06Speaker 7: his life. And when he went to the Angels, at
- 17:13Speaker 7: first I thought he was going to do really really well.
- 17:16Speaker 7: It did fit well out there. I think he's from Texas,
- 17:19Speaker 7: be close in her home. And then I got let
- 17:22Speaker 7: go by the Mets and I went to the Nationals
- 17:24Speaker 7: and I started asking around about Anthony. I started asking,
- 17:26Speaker 7: like the people in our world who really matter at work,
- 17:32Speaker 7: the trainers, the travel and secretary, the clubbies, the weight
- 17:37Speaker 7: room guys, and I just started asking, like, you know,
- 17:40Speaker 7: what the hell happened to Anthony? How come he he
- 17:42Speaker 7: left here? I just couldn't. He's this quality, quality player.
- 17:46Speaker 7: He was a World Series champion, and to a t, everyone,
- 17:50Speaker 7: no matter who I asked at that level, was like,
- 17:53Speaker 7: Anthony's a great guy. We all loved him, but we
- 17:55Speaker 7: all knew baseball wasn't his top priority.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He wanted to be with his family.
- 17:59Speaker 7: And they would say to me, the Angels are going
- 18:02Speaker 7: to regret it because that's not his thing. Man, He's
- 18:06Speaker 7: good at baseball, but it's not his love. It's not
- 18:09Speaker 7: his passion. His family and friends is his passion. So
- 18:13Speaker 7: I just started wondering, like, did somebody with the Angels
- 18:16Speaker 7: not do their homework? Did somebody do their homework and
- 18:20Speaker 7: voice their opinion and get shut down?
- 18:26Speaker 2: So very very candid Gary Di Sarcina on the nose, Yeah, crats.
- 18:32Speaker 2: And we've talked about this topic a ton because there's
- 18:34Speaker 2: been developing storylines when he's out and then there's the
- 18:37Speaker 2: buyout or whatever it ends up being here he's not
- 18:40Speaker 2: part of the team anymore. Two things that I take
- 18:43Speaker 2: one is I have a hard time with the Oh
- 18:46Speaker 2: he's more into his family. Everyone's into their family. I
- 18:49Speaker 2: don't feel like that's a fair excuse. I think it's
- 18:52Speaker 2: just more on the side of he doesn't love ball
- 18:54Speaker 2: like most people do, and that's okay, But that's a
- 18:57Speaker 2: guy where you should do your homework and make sure
- 18:59Speaker 2: you're not throwing the bag at him. And I don't
- 19:01Speaker 2: think the homework was done. Now, putting the positive spin
- 19:03Speaker 2: on it, I think this is going to be a
- 19:05Speaker 2: blessing for the Angels organization. It was awkward for the
- 19:10Speaker 2: last few years. You have to answer the questions he
- 19:13Speaker 2: was around the team at times, and it can drag
- 19:15Speaker 2: you down, even if it's not a bad dude. Right,
- 19:18Speaker 2: if there's one guy who's there who's just like, oh,
- 19:20Speaker 2: fuck it, I don't want to be here, you tell me.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I mean that would affect my high school basketball team.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I'm sure it affects a major league team.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Definitely affects a major league team. But I don't know
- 19:30Speaker 5: if he was there that much. I mean, when you're hurt,
- 19:35Speaker 5: if unless you say no, I want to go with
- 19:38Speaker 5: the team like I want to be with the guys.
- 19:39Speaker 5: I want to make sure I'm there with the what
- 19:42Speaker 5: we're seeing he didn't want to do, like he's barely around.
- 19:46Speaker 5: He's doing his work. Now, you know, if there's a
- 19:48Speaker 5: dude that's like negative Nelly on the bench gives zero value, Like,
- 19:54Speaker 5: that's not Those aren't the kind of guys you want
- 19:56Speaker 5: around him. So if he wasn't around the guys, I
- 19:59Speaker 5: don't I don't feel like it's a distraction.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Nobody's like looking down the lineup and like, oh, man,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I wish we had Rendon. He would really kill this
- 20:06Speaker 1: guy here.
- 20:07Speaker 5: No, I think I think they had given up on
- 20:09Speaker 5: him as as teammates. You have to just move on.
- 20:12Speaker 5: That's the that's the ugliness of baseball. No matter if
- 20:15Speaker 5: you're done as a high school freshman and you don't
- 20:19Speaker 5: play on a JV team anymore, they're still going to
- 20:22Speaker 5: have games. Or if you're a big league All Star,
- 20:24Speaker 5: future Hall of Famer, as soon as you're off the field,
- 20:28Speaker 5: they're still having games.
- 20:29Speaker 1: The game moves on. So I don't think it was
- 20:31Speaker 1: as big of.
- 20:32Speaker 5: A distraction as it was just an absolute crater of
- 20:36Speaker 5: a contract that he could have given them ridiculous amounts
- 20:40Speaker 5: of value.
- 20:42Speaker 6: And here's the nature of the whole beast here. Major
- 20:46Speaker 6: League baseball is what, it's a job. Some people treat
- 20:49Speaker 6: it as a job. A lot of people don't don't
- 20:52Speaker 6: get me wrong. They love the every part of the game.
- 20:55Speaker 6: They want to play. Some will play for free, that's
- 20:57Speaker 6: how much they love it. But there's others out there
- 21:00Speaker 6: really treat it as a job. Oh I gotta go in, Okay,
- 21:04Speaker 6: let me get this job done. When the game over, shower,
- 21:06Speaker 6: grab something quick, leave. Not working out. There's guys like that,
- 21:11Speaker 6: and you got to take them for what they are.
- 21:13Speaker 6: And that's just the nature of the beast. And it's
- 21:15Speaker 6: not everybody. It's a select few, and guess what, it's
- 21:19Speaker 6: tough to change their minds. It's part of it. But
- 21:22Speaker 6: some people treat the game like a job. I want
- 21:24Speaker 6: to get paid. I want my nine to five or
- 21:26Speaker 6: whatever it is. They come one to eleven, whatever it is,
- 21:29Speaker 6: and they go home. Fine, they're happy to be home.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Wake up, all right, I gotta go again. So some
- 21:34Speaker 6: people do that. That's that's just the sucky part of it.
- 21:38Speaker 6: But that's life.
- 21:40Speaker 5: And for people who say, well, he got the contract
- 21:42Speaker 5: and then he just gave up. No like this this
- 21:45Speaker 5: feeling about baseball, whatever it is, if we're accusing him
- 21:48Speaker 5: of this. To me, it was happening his entire career.
- 21:51Speaker 5: It shows how freaking good he was because I didn't
- 21:55Speaker 5: love baseball more than my family, my faith. But then
- 21:59Speaker 5: they came in and I really really like baseball, like
- 22:02Speaker 5: I love it, and I sucked, like I did not
- 22:05Speaker 5: play very good in the big leagues. So for him
- 22:07Speaker 5: to do what he did and to not have to
- 22:10Speaker 5: put in, you know, the extra like, oh man, I'm
- 22:13Speaker 5: so locked in to making the adjustments all that stuff,
- 22:18Speaker 5: he was really good. That's why I think people forget
- 22:21Speaker 5: is the fact that if a guy truly is and
- 22:24Speaker 5: that's the narrative that he has led us paint because
- 22:26Speaker 5: he hasn't he hasn't changed our opinion of it. If
- 22:30Speaker 5: his if he truly was not really enamored with the
- 22:33Speaker 5: game and just went out there and played because he
- 22:35Speaker 5: can make some money doing it, like it shows he
- 22:39Speaker 5: was really good. Because it takes a lot to focus.
- 22:42Speaker 5: It's kind of like Todd. Todd was really really good
- 22:45Speaker 5: and he's like, you know what, I don't know if
- 22:47Speaker 5: I need to like look at the analytics stuff. And
- 22:49Speaker 5: people could be like, oh, Todd, how could you not
- 22:52Speaker 5: look at that. Todd's like, well, I'm gonna go out
- 22:53Speaker 5: and hit. I'm gonna go out and hit, and I
- 22:55Speaker 5: don't need that stuff like different guys levels of abilities
- 23:00Speaker 5: are really like it shines through when you see different
- 23:04Speaker 5: things like this come out about Rindom.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Well said, and for more on that conversation, it's great interview.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Halo Territory is the spot if you're watching right now,
- 23:15Speaker 2: just like you did for us yesterday with Bluebird and
- 23:18Speaker 2: just throw a little love, a little sub at Halo
- 23:20Speaker 2: Territory wherever you get your podcasts and also on YouTube,
- 23:23Speaker 2: go for it. Mike Di Giovanna and Mark Trumbo run
- 23:27Speaker 2: the show. Yeah you can see they had Mike's Sosia
- 23:28Speaker 2: on a prior episode
