- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome to this edition of Cheesy Popcorn I'm Chris Miles, host of another series here on The Rise Network, called New I'm Music Row, and aside from me I've got Hey, I'm in of our, and I am also a co-host of a podcast called Can I Call You Dad, and obviously the co-host of this show with the amazing Mr. Chris Miles.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: So here we go I don't know if I'd go that far, but anyway
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say so.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: So we had a little bit of a situation here.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: Last week, we had a super fan guest host.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Because we both went to see the movie down.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Abby, you had some other engagements, previous engagements as we like to call them.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: But over the course of that show, we did discuss that we probably were going to go and take a look at a big bold beautiful journey.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: And as happened to you last week, now this week, I wasn't able to go see the movie.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: So you'll have a complete review for us.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: I won't have much to say about it, because I didn't see it, but I'm sure there's probably going to be something you're going to say that I could probably make a comment on or something like that.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: But in the meantime, let's talk about the movies that are coming out this week in theaters.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these are rather heavily anticipated movies.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: So the first one that's coming out, and it's also the one that I think we agreed on that
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: is gonna be one called one battle after another that features Leonardo DiCaprio, right?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, and Sean Penn.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it appears to be a comeback for Sean Penn.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen him in very big movie movies.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: He was in something a couple years ago.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember what it was off the top of my head, but not very memorable apparently.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was like, oh, Sean pens in this movie kind of thing, but yeah.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a movie about an evil enemy that resurfaces after 16 years and a group of X Revolutionaries reunite to rescue one of their own daughters.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now,
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: If you've been into the movie theaters like we have for the last couple of weeks it's been one of those movies that has been like on endless loop as far as the previews are concerned.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's more so a case with the fact of the studios pushing them through but I don't know what do you think.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Probably it seems like it, yeah, it seems like there's something going on there.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of really high action movies that appear to be coming out.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like this one and the football one with the one of the weigh-ins, brothers.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: And then I thought I saw something, that's the one where the dude is there.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's the one where it looks like they're in the performance enhancing things or something like that.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then they do like some other weird stuff.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's, it's, it's, you get the idea at the beginning of the preview that it's a football movie.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: But it's really not a football movie.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's really kind of a weird way out there.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Almost a chainsaw massacre kind of movie.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like a cover for some sort of sector, some exactly.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like some kind of almost like a What's that movie where the the kids got a kill each other to get ahead?
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: you know what you're talking about the hunt on games yeah the hunger games the hungry games the hunger the hunger the hunger the hunger the hunger games yeah not the hungry games right but for like overweight people like me is the hungry games it's the hungry hungry hip-hop games yeah exactly younger hip-hop games
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, this doesn't seem like that.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean when we when we went the last movie and I went to go see together all the previews except for Big Bowl beautiful journey We're like a really big action Nobody too and all that stuff.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well nobody too.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: There's a remake of I think it's total no the running man There's been a couple of times right there's some movie with that features like toys are us in it with Janet Channing Tatum
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Right, that's the rooftop.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: The rooftop, that's been one, yeah, the rooftop man.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and that sort of got comedy and a lot of action in it, too.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's got an interesting twist in it, too.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I've kind of intrigued by that, but it also features one of my favorite actors, only because he's so pint-sized.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I know you're talking about it.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, Danny DeVito.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, not Danny DeVito.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, not Danny DeVito.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: No, no.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's a half a pint, I'm sorry.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and he's too busy selling Jersey mics.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: He is.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably making a ton of money here.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we should be so lucky.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, exactly.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think Mike's listening.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: We need a sponsor.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know when rooftop guy is coming out.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they've ever said I know that.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think they said October because I was looking at October.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one I thought we'd preview.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: Because I look kind of fun.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's like October.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that's not coming out to October.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: So we are going to preview next week, one battle after another.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about it next week.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see it before next week.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: We review it wrong.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Wrong phraseology there.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Also coming out this week is a movie called Gabby's Dollhouse.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know why they had to call it Gabby's Dollhouse the movie, but they did anyways because well because there's a cartoon I think.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: That makes sense
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that looks kind of fun.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Looks kind of fun.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: Is that like a Katie-only kind of thing?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like Barbie meets the 101 Dalmatians.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's got an interesting line.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I saw.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's an interesting cast in there.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Gloria Stephon.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Kristen Wig.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: Kristen Wig is the bad lady.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: Laila Lockhart.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know her.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: And uh, nobody else that's like really big names, but those two, so that Gloria said fun, never heard from her.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, not at all.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if she's gonna congot through the movie.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that would be nice.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Also coming out this week, movies of interest, Eleanor the Great, it's a movie where an unexpected bond forms between a 90-year-old woman from Florida and a 19-year-old college student in New York City bring in their age and bridging their age and geographical gap.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Now the interesting thing about this is that Scarlett Johansson is in it, and I'm kind of intrigued by that because most people know her as the Black Widow and I don't know what else.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: uh... colon josts and set it up for her wife wife yeah and i'm hoping that when they say uh... bridget when you said bridging the gap but doesn't mean that she's actually wearing like a bridge but that would be kind of where they could be playing bridge it could be playing bridge or they could be walking over a bridge or under the bridge or they could be pain homage to loid bridges or it could just be a bridge over trouble waters it could be a good and that's what this is turning into
- 6:19[UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right, last but not least, dead of winter, starring one of my favorite actresses from, I don't want to say way back, but way back.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: Emma Thompson, she has a lot of stuff.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: Judy Greer, I think, is in it as well too.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's basically a grief-stricken lover gets lost among bad, back roads near a Minnesota lake and stops for help at a remote cabin
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: So uh, I don't know kind of interesting there, but there's a bridge somewhere.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: Having gone to school up and up in the cross Wisconsin for college.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: I have a feeling.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: I remember seeing that Minnesota the land.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Land of a thousand lakes.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: So those are the movies recapping events again.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: One battle after another, which we will review next episode.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Gabby's Dow House the movie, which we find out the reason why it's called the movie is because it's also a cartoon.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Eleanor the great and then dead of winter those are your I mean there's other stuff too But those are the four that we want to kind of bring to the forefront here.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these other ones are in limited release Like we talked about you and I talked about BFFs.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's also in limited release So I'm not sure if you're gonna be able to see it in your at least like fun though
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't look like a fun movie.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Jenny's trying to reconnect with her child friend Harry as their practical jokes escalate.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: It threatens Henry's, oh, sorry.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's Henry, not Harry.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Henry's current life with potentially fatal consequences.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Bacoll is in, I don't know if he's related to Lauren.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Could be.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Could be Terrence Howard.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Terrence Howard is in this.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's what caught my eye.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: Tade digs.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's another one.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Terrence was the biggest name I saw.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Ted Diggs is pretty big too.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so that's a limited release.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: If that does come out to like a more streamlined release, we'll probably put that on the list of movies that we reviewed.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Although we did do highest to lowest, and that was Apple TV movie.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, don't count anything at what else guys.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess that's the best way to put it.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but so for now, no BFFs, but maybe down the road.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that or maybe friends with benefits anyway.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: So there we go.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: So that's going to bring us to the review section.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Review section.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I will turn over the microphone and the duties to you.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: You can tell us all about what you thought about a big bold, beautiful journey or as I like to call it, the movie with the doors.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: the movie with the doors and that the musical doors no no I was uh not even going to break we saw the preview together so you can break on through to the other side there you go that's right well we we saw the movie together and we both kind of looked at each other like and gave it sort of a thumbs up in the show seemed kind of interesting that was interested in it the door idea was really kind of cool in the preview um at least I would
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: Barbie, as we know her.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know how H Barbie, other people will know her as, oh gosh, Harley Quinn.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but I think Barbie is the mainstream Barbie.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: But say Margot Robbie, I think most eight out of ten people will think Barbie.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure people also think of Wolf of Wall Street too.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: maybe.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, this was a totally different role.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought she nailed it.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought she nailed the role.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: I really did.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was, I was so, I was more focused on her in this role.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: Of course you were.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Not because of anything except that it was so different from Barbie.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I finally got a chance to watch Barbie with my grandkids late at night one night.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I was sitting there just praying that they'd fall asleep.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Margo, I thought she did a really nice job carrying off the her character's name is Sarah, and she played it off really, really well.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: So it was night, I hope she gets more roles like that, and is able to get, you know, kind of lose the Barbie thing unless she wants to do Barbie too.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it made her a lot of money and that's a good thing, but I think she's a better actress than I saw in Barbie.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think- And I guess Bobby that character was- I don't think- I don't think that movie was really meant to like, when anyone any Oscars.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was more meant to make the statement that it made.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I get that.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: I get that.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: I just- She didn't have a lot of substance, and as an actress I believe in that.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then this one she does.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: This one she does.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other side of that coin, and then the other side of the pond, by the way, as in Ireland, is Colin Ferrell.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: one of the bad ass guys on screen.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: As you know, I mean, I love Colin Ferrell.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's a pretty good.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's a great actor.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's action movies are, you know, they're great.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a really different role for a pause there for a second.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Did you catch him in Joker or the penguin?
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I did not.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: I did not.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: The series.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have not.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: I got to see that.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's not my list.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: He is amazing.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's my list.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: But no, but this was a really different role for him.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: I thought too.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought he did a really cool.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: He was really good in this as we sings in this, by the way, too, at least I'm pretty interesting.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Sings and dances.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh,
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: It was cool to see him to another side of Colin Ferrell that I hadn't seen before.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe he's done other movies like this, but I just haven't seen him, but I hope he does more like this, because it was really cool to see him.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: The one thing that I will say is that I don't know of any actor other than Groucho Marx, who has the bushyest eyebrows as Colin Ferrell, and if it wasn't Colin Ferrell, no other regular guy could pull that off.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: I know because my wife is constantly telling me to trim my eyebrows and I don't have a uner out but my eyebrows get bushy and that's actually one of my fears of growing odors that I let my eyebrows get really bushy and I let the nose out of my hair grow really long and I look really bad in a gym locker room so those are my two big fears but I thought he did a great job okay that's the good news the bad news is I mean I really find it hard to describe what the plot was.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: There were a lot of doors, and there were a lot of different scenarios, but it didn't seem to really... Mesh.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: So was it like a flash?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I remember the preview that we saw.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: I remember it looked like they were flashing back to different points of their lives together.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and so I thought maybe it was going to be a this is how you could have connected at one point in your life This is how you could have connected at another point in your life.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, it had nothing to do with them connecting another point to their lives Okay, it would the doors were separate parts of each of their lives and then the other one was kind of coming along for the ride which is what I think was disjointed
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to give too much away, but the one scene that did work for me, and it's a scene where Colin gets an opportunity to show his dancing and singing skills, was the door that leads to the high school.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not giving anything away because that's in the previews.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: That is this high, there's a blue door looks like old gym door, and they walk through and I won't tell you what else happens.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: That scene really kind of work.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: But the other ones didn't really work for me, and I thought overall it was really slow
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the writing could have been more fast-paced, you know, they kind of tried to sell it as a quasi-Romcom, and it really wasn't.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: It had some like three or four funny moments, but for the most part it was kind of like
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: They look, they each get the chance to look at what, what the other one was going to do or did back in the past, but it's not funny.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, was it more of like a, in a relationship where you have a conversation with your significant other or whatever you want to call them?
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Your partner will go with that.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then you talked to your partner about like a piece of history that happened in your life and instead of actually describing it, they get to see like the video format of it.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: it's kind of like that except that it isn't like that that's what i mean about it's hard to describe the plot okay and and you know i was hoping to go see it with my wife because it's was built as a romcom and i was the only guy there alone so that was fun i sat in the back of the theater so nobody could look at me and say well we feel a little bad for that guy so is there a romantic link between the is romantic link i won't i don't want to give anything way too much because that would be given in way but uh what was also really cool with the
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Visually, it's a really beautiful, beautifully filmed movie.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of real beautiful scenery in this.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: That probably what's the best part of the movie from the other than the fact that I got to see Colin and Margo in a different light on a scale of one in a ten like we normally do.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'd have to give it a six and I really wanted it to be more than that.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I really did, but I felt like it was a half-eaten container of popcorn movie.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even finish my popcorn.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: So the gentleman who is responsible for cinematography on the movie is Benjamin Loeb,
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: did a great job, the lighting, about 37 years old.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the lighting, everything on that part of it was really good.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: The music was really good too.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: The soundtrack was really nice.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: And unlike the last movie we saw highest to lowest, where I remember I mentioned that the soundtrack really didn't seem to fit the theme of the movie at all.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: This one it did, the music really carried the movie through really nice.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's real slow if you like,
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: which was maybe the slowest movie ever produced.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: This one was right there.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: You had to bring up Oppenheimer and I knew him the same I knew.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I was dying to see Oppenheimer.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I took Doris.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it was a Jesus Christ.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: For me, I was saying that at one point.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, that's my review.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: Go see it or wait for it to come out on video.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you like Margo and you like Colin, you all enjoy it.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: I stay to the end.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put it that way.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, it's not for the kiddos.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: It is rated arc.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: It is rated arc.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing, there's a lot language.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of bad language.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: And there's an almost vaccine, but they don't, they just kind of kiss, so it's not a horrible movie for kids.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: you know, well, it's rated are though.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know why.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: So according to what they're talking, uh, humpbing, humpbing mentioned in the movie.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why, humping would be rated are, but whatever, uh, there's verbal references to a sexual relationship.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and then there's a man-shelving, moving his shirt, removing his shirt rather prior to having, uh, quite as, as we'll call it.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: there was no coitus in this movie prior to having coitus is what it says so like he took a shirt off and then like I guess they cut away to make you think that it was going to happen I don't know I didn't see the movie so you did so I can't but I just telling you what I don't know where that was in the movie because that didn't see it I saw Colin Farrell take a shirt off but he was right outside of a car
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that maybe he was going to hump in the car.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: I could have been.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he was going to get on a stick ship for a while.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to get out of his dreams.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: I get into his car.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's my review.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: The ocean, you're welcome.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's my review.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: So what did you give it how many you set a 10 six out of 10 okay six out of 10 not not bad bad bad bad bad bad bad But not just I think this appointing is about the best word.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: I can come up with for this all for me to be honest with you when it came out when we when I saw the previous I was kind of like and okay
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, sometimes you see a preview and you're like, yes, I want to see that.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that was one of those that I was kind of like, eh.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: See, now it's the opposite.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: When I saw the preview, I thought, oh, this could be really cool.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it was something I go, you know, date night with my wife.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I liked the concept of the doors.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: It was really cool.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: I liked the stuff that's unique and different.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: And this team, like it was going to have that in the previews.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: And it's different.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think it's as unique as it wanted to be.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's the best sentence I could use to end it.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: all right.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: So if you were to compare it to some other romcoms you've seen or maybe to draw some sort of opposition to it or whatever right.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I think I don't think I can compare it to a romcom I've seen because it really doesn't, doesn't fit the romcom formula for me.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: But since we're talking about romcoms, I'm going to go back to one of my favorite romcoms.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have never seen this movie go get it at the library or if you can get it it's called it happened one night with Clark Gable and the wonderful Claudette Cobert who's in a lot of movies back then Mr. Smith goes to Washington a whole bunch of stuff.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: If you pay attention to Rotten Tomatoes, it actually was rated 98% Rotten, which one?
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: It happened one night.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: It had a 98% Rotten.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: It happened one night.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: They don't know what a good movie is.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: No, that means it's really good.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the 99% I'm sorry.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so that's the thing about rotten tomatoes that they they are they were known for like letting you know about really bad movies, but now they've also decided that the more rotten to so if you get if you have less rotten tomatoes that means you're bad right more rotten tomatoes that was good bad.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: It means you're actually good.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: They should call them ripe tomatoes.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: They should call them or they could call them church.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: Interestingly enough, the one that did get 100% is the Philadelphia story.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: that's another good one too and I thought about that one but I think it happened one night is uh I think it sits a little bit better it's got Clark Gable and you can't miss with Clark Gable in a comedic role which you and he plays it beautifully he really does you know if you like Clark Gable you're gonna love that movie
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: My my more current movie is leap year with Amy Adams and a guy you'll never hear you probably nobody knows math you good He's an Irish guy It's set in Ireland.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: I I always think of it when I've seen it many many times and I've always compared it to a newer version of the quiet man with John Wayne and Catherine O'Hara
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: or marino her it's i think it's pretty close to that it's not exactly that but it's got a lot of the same kind of stuff in it i think and it's it's got a really good chemistry going between the two of them that'll keep you on your toes and it moves really the movie moves real quick to which i like
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: I like romcoms that move quickly and have a really good plot, good writing.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: The ending in leap year is kind of predictable, so is the ending in big, bold, beautiful journey, by the way, but the ending in leap year, the predictability of it makes it work even better.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's interesting.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: The movie you picked for one of your favorite romcoms of all time is also the movie that you're using for your recommendation for a good romcom.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: So back I think episode two we did our favor.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you said leap year was like your number one So to speak right you then said ugly truth the bishop's wife Mr. McGoo which anyway, and then desk sucks See I thought you were gonna bring up desks again.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I thought you were gonna do
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, so and it's funny because I was trying to find where Leapier rates as far as rotten tomatoes is concerned But I'm not there yet because there's like all these other movies to do they're not trying to make your song bad.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's just you know, there's like
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: there's a ton on here and the funny thing is there's two on here that I put in my list for my favorite rom-coms of all time.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: One of them was Silver Lightning's Playbook, which is rated 92% Rotten Tomatoes.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's the 45th best rom-com of all time according to Rotten Tomatoes.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then the other thing, there was another movie in here that I also picked in, as far as one of my favorite rom-coms of all time, as I was scrolling through here and trying to find stuff.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then they've got Groundhog Day in here.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember that every being a rom-com.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's there's some romantic stuff going on with him and Andy McDonald, but you know, I, I, I, I, I saw like, but I've never seen that home movie don't it's, it's annoying as all get out and it's literally playing the same moment over and over and over and I know and I just, I watched I get the concept I'm not a big Bill Murray fan I was not as a leading man.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: He was great in stripes, and they gave it a great job in stripes.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't ever see him as a leading man.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't like him and scourged?
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was really good at scourged.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, for what it was, for what it was, for what it was, it was great for him.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for what it was, for what it was.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, according to Bob?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: According to Bob, that's it.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: That now he was really good in that.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: So, but he's not a leading man in that.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he's not a thought he was.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was Bob.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's Bob, but he's not only not playing a romantic leading man, I can't ever see Bill Murray as a romantic leading man, I guess is what I'm saying.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he kind of was a romantic leading ghostbusters.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: He was signed for Stripes 2 and I didn't get that.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: Only part of it and like about that was the that part of him.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if I was a woman and Bill Murray walked into a bar, he probably wouldn't be the first guy to run to.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Or man for that matter.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm sorry Bill.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: I know you're a second-city guy, Chicago guy.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: I actually got a chance to meet a sister who was a nun.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that was kind of cool.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I didn't know she was in the audience when I did a show.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: None Murray.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then introduced me and said, uh... Sister Murray.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Sister Murray.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sister Murray.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: Sister Murray Murray.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: And as an emotional, you relate to Bill Murray.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: She said, yes, he's my brother.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, oh my goodness.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: I talk about an awesome on stage moment there probably shut you up right then and there you were like okay But a handsome thing bad about Bill Murray and I won't say anything bad about Bill Murray ever I think you know if you can get to that level he's doing something right.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's just not
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I like him in any movie where he's not the leading man romance target I guess okay that's me All right, and then the other movie that I would bring up is say anything.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's actually number eight.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's far as rotten tomatoes is concerned for best or for best romcom of all time It's got 98% rotten tomato
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: that's good which is which is good for it um of course for me i mean it that's the quick to me that's the romcom from my generation really well for sure because what was serendipity that was in that same day serendipity serendipity was a few years after say anything say anything is the one that kind of took to people in my generation i think would say this is the one that put q-sec on the moon because everybody remembers that iconic scene where he's standing outside in the rain in the trench coat with that
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: a boom box over his head and serenading, you know, and of course, uh, uh, the Peter Gabriel song in your eyes.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of us made fun of back in the high school days.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: I never did.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: I did.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: We called it in your thighs.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, I'm going to leave it at that.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, my high school days, we were playing with growing chance.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I was going to say, either that or you probably were playing that Baroque music.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: Baroque, yes.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: Baroque movie.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Who Baroque the music?
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I used to tell my music teacher.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: So all right, so there's a couple of great movies for you to see if maybe you don't want to go see the movie that we've kind of sort of said it was OK.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: Would you say that it's probably, would you, let me ask you this, would you have enjoyed it?
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: More, maybe if you're watching it at home
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: grouping of popcorn, and by that I mean Chicago mix.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think if I was watching it at home, I probably would have switched to something else.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wow, okay.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: There were a couple of times during the movie where I thought, you know, I should just leave.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and I didn't.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: I said, you know, I came to see this movie, so I could tell people about it.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna watch it to the end.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: I went all the way to the end.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, so you get a star for sticking to the assignment.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I get a gold star, maybe I'll get some applause from my boss.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: you know, because he also was giving you a flood and never giving me any.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's not true.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: He gives you a clause every day.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go check out the Leon Nardo, the Caprio movie, one battle after another.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think we could probably try to catch that one together, although you got issues on Tuesdays now, so maybe now.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's every other Tuesday.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: If you have to figure something out over the weekend for those Tuesdays, but this coming Tuesday there will not be a conflict.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: So we can go see it together and get it at a discounted day.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: Which, by the way, this is something I want to talk to you about.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: So doubt and Abby.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, since you brought that up.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: As I was walking in to Big Bowl beautiful journey, there was a woman behind two women walked in behind me and walked up to the cashier and said, we'd like two tickets to downtown Abbey.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just they did, I swear to God.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, they did.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: And the first thing I thought it was you.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: downtown avi they she said we're coming to see downtown avi okay uh... so when we went to go see it we saw it at a movie theater here in downers groups of people who are typically sorry to be always called to to fully it sounds better that way and that's just sounds more uh... italians mysterious there you are mister that like that's a full series yeah
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, we saw it there, and of course it was in the big theater, and I got to tell you this is one of the things that I said on the episode And I wanted to share it with you It was really cool to see that movie in that theater Yeah, because it brought back like all kinds of old memories of me like like remember Nortown Is that the name of the movie theater that was a run divon and like what if oh, so yeah, I saw the Logan The boardage there were one supportage.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's the other one But I saw I think I saw Raiders the Lost Art at Portage, but I saw the first Star Wars movie at Nortown
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I compare the Tavoli, or Tavoli, sorry, keep doing that too, because it reminds me of that.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so when I saw Dao Nabi there at the Tavoli, I was a Tavoli, sorry, I can't do it.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, man, this reminds me of that.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's why I appreciated Dao Nabi more, because it made it feel nostalgic and, you know, like, from that decade ago.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, because it's a theater, just puts you back in time for sure.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: Did they have the Oregon guy come up with a play before or not?
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, Oregon guy came up with a play.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: play.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: There was a bunch of commercials and all that kind of stuff.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: So do you say a live organ guy?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, an organizer?
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: He had a, the, the, the, it was a, it's a pipe organ.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: It comes.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: And the guy plays some music beforehand.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then it goes down.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: Nice.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: And when I took my grandson there to see a movie one time, or actually my kids, I'm sorry.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: I had them believe in that it was a robotic thing like one of those things.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's not a guy, that's just a robot.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: And they were believing it right up to the end when he stood up in a plane.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, dad.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then your cover was blown.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is cool.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now, see, I go back to the days.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: where my friends and I everybody night we go downtown when the Chicago theater was a regular movie Yeah, yeah, and the oriental was a regular movie theater and we would go see like all the kung fu movies that came out back in the day Fist of Fury we we would go see first run movies there
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: now that go see a movie in the Chicago theater back in the day oh my gosh and the oriental the oriental is excellent and then there were other theaters there that had movies that you don't necessarily go see but the Chicago cinema movie in the Chicago theater like I said did that many movies by the way
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, I don't know that there's a better experience for a movie than there.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: That would be cool.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's a nice, that's a nice venue.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: That would be cool to go see a movie before.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'll have to look and see a lot of these places are doing that now.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're bringing back like a come-see-in-old movie in our theater.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know the Paramount does that in our movie.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: It really does.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like Christmas.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, wonderful life.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but the Tivoli also has like live performances.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: They do that too.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: as well.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was kind of cool.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: I saw something's coming up.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, I'll maybe we'll go see that as well too.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, so we've batted it off.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think about it.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to review next episode one battle after another.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, we'll have reviews.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about what's coming out that week.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then we'll probably talk about our favorite mystery movies because we've been putting that off for a little bit.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: So let's go with that.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: In the meantime, we could pretend we're going to talk about it.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then in the of itself will be a mystery.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: But there you go.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to do it for the episode.

- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: That means you just call it Chicago Mix popcorn.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh Maybe we can get Garrett's sponsor to show
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I'm gonna have to write them a letter.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: There we go, pipe dream.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right, have a good one.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: Folks, we'll see you at the next episode.
