- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:41Hi, it's Adam here. And you're about to listen to a
- 0:44hypnosis session designed for pain reduction.
- 0:49And I was working with a client that had, in the months before a
- 0:55dislocated elbow. And because of that, it needed
- 1:00to be reset. But that meant that it was in a
- 1:02fixed position for a very long period of time.
- 1:04They were actually going through certain physical therapy, some
- 1:08people call it physiotherapy, and that was very painful for
- 1:12them because the body hadn't been used to moving and
- 1:15therefore it was kind of resisting it.
- 1:18What you're going to hear in this particular hypnosis session
- 1:21are lots of things linked to something called hypno
- 1:25analgesia, which is basically hypnosis for pain reduction,
- 1:31pain relief, or just turning off pain.
- 1:34And there are things that relate to metaphor, certain things that
- 1:38relate to direct suggestions, the amplification of pain
- 1:43relief. And also that pain in most cases
- 1:47is a message. And when you really intend or
- 1:51interpret the message in a way that's empowering, quite often
- 1:54pain goes down, you know, and also the element of personal
- 1:59choice. For example, if someone was
- 2:04randomly captured and then tattooed on their back, they
- 2:08would probably link that with a huge amount of pain.
- 2:11Someone that's dreamt of having a back tattoo and experiencing
- 2:16the same thing, they were still experiencing sensations, but
- 2:18they wouldn't label it as the same intensity of pain because
- 2:21they're choosing to do that thing.
- 2:24Therefore, personal choice as an element here as well.
- 2:28There's lots of things going on in this session and I appreciate
- 2:32it's quite related to things like physical therapy linked to
- 2:37the body part which happened to be the elbow in this client's
- 2:40case. But lots of the suggestions will
- 2:42be very suitable for many different forms of either
- 2:46chronic pain or acute pain, which is happening in the moment
- 2:51for a reason. And you know, certain things do
- 2:55'cause pain, you know, and that could be something like an
- 3:00intense stretch can sometimes called pain or you know, a
- 3:04massage. If you've got lots of kind of
- 3:07knots in your muscles, that can be painful.
- 3:09So all of these things can be painful and not all of them are
- 3:13chronic, Some are acute, but the suggestions within this might be
- 3:17helpful for you. Be aware though that it was
- 3:21entirely created for one specific individual client and
- 3:25therefore their suggestions that were very helpful for them might
- 3:29not map across perfectly for you.
- 3:30So if you do like the idea of a bespoke session may be tailored
- 3:35to your specific type of pain, there will be a link in the
- 3:38description where you can book a free consultation call to
- 3:41explore working with me. And actually there's lots of
- 3:44other free things in there like free downloads and free course.
- 3:46So check out them while you're in that description.
- 3:50For now though, I would encourage you to find a quiet,
- 3:53comfortable place where you're not going to be disturbed to
- 3:56relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:09you breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 5:14relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow
- 5:18your eyelids to close. And the moment your eyelids
- 5:22close, feel a sense of release, a sense of release that it's
- 5:27fine to let go of Any tension, any worries, any stress.
- 5:34As you breathe in, breathe in deeper than you did before.
- 5:39And as you exhale, just exhale for longer.
- 5:43Each breath takes you deeper than the last.
- 5:48And I want you to scan your body for any clues of rigidity or
- 5:52tension, stress or worries, and just give yourself permission to
- 5:57let go. I want you to get a sense that
- 6:01as you breathe in, you're breathing in that resourceful
- 6:04feeling of calm. And as you exhale, you are
- 6:10releasing any of those emotions that feel unhelpful in any way.
- 6:18That's it. Feeling deeper and deeper,
- 6:23relaxed. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 6:27more relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel,
- 6:31the deeper you breathe. And as your body relaxes, your
- 6:36imagination awakens. So allow yourself to really
- 6:40settle into a comfortable position.
- 6:46Just focus on my words and the rhythm of your breathing.
- 6:52Each breath in calming and centering you, and each breath
- 6:57out releasing any tension or tightness that you no longer
- 7:02need. And as you've been begin to sink
- 7:06and drift deeper into stillness, you might notice the gentle
- 7:13rhythm of your breathing, or perhaps the way that gravity is
- 7:19supporting you there in that chair.
- 7:24So right now, just allow your body to relax as if it's
- 7:28remembering what it feels like to be deeply at ease and bring
- 7:38your attention to the tiny muscles around your eyes and
- 7:42just allow them to release and relax.
- 7:48As if a gentle wave of comfort is flowing from the top of your
- 7:51head, down across your forehead, your eyelids, your cheek, and
- 7:57your jaw, releasing and relaxing with each breath.
- 8:07That's it, Deeper relax now. And that same wave of comfort is
- 8:14now flowing down your neck and your shoulders, and it reaches
- 8:22your elbow. And I want you to feel that that
- 8:28part of you has already been through so much.
- 8:33And I want you to feel that part is now feeling supported, calm.
- 8:42Anything that's gone through some kind of trauma or change
- 8:48tends to use rigidity as a way of keeping itself safe, and I
- 8:56want you to allow that part of your body to feel that it is
- 8:59safe. It is supported, meaning that it
- 9:05can start to release some of the tension in tendons, muscle
- 9:13tissues and fibres. Just feel that you're giving
- 9:17permission to that area of your body to stand down.
- 9:24Do not be so on guard and vigilant that that part of your
- 9:30body can feel safe and relaxed and comfortable.
- 9:38And as you set that intention, just notice only what you wish
- 9:42to notice, as the rest just loosens and softens and fades
- 9:49into the background. And you may even begin to
- 9:54imagine that your mind is slowly descending.
- 10:01And I want you to imagine a tall building in Istanbul with a
- 10:07glass elevator in a beautiful modern building in that historic
- 10:12city. And I want you to imagine that
- 10:16you are descending in the glass elevator, seeing the incredible
- 10:22views of the city and perhaps the sea as I countdown from
- 10:2712:50. With each descending number, you
- 10:31will feel that you're drifting deeper and deeper, relaxed into
- 10:35that part of your subconscious mind that accepts powerful
- 10:40suggestions of change. 10 Just going down now. 9 more and more
- 10:51relaxed. 8 feeling the descent, drifting deeper. 7 That's it. 6
- 11:01nearly halfway there, 5 halfway down that modern building, just
- 11:07descending into the bottom levels of this modern building,
- 11:16and then four body just letting go.
- 11:22Three more and more at ease with each level, 2:00 and 1:00.
- 11:33And I want you to imagine that the doors open and you are now
- 11:39at the street level in this historic, vibrant city.
- 11:46And I want you to feel happy and relaxed and just noticed that
- 11:52your arm, particularly your right elbow, just feels
- 11:55completely normal because this is now a memory and your body
- 12:01and your arm knows what it feels like to be healthy and healed
- 12:04and relaxed. And just imagine you're walking
- 12:09around the streets of Istanbul, perhaps climbing upwards, and I
- 12:17want you to imagine seeing a child fall.
- 12:21The child is full of energy and vibrancy.
- 12:25They're having fun and playing. And as you see them perhaps bang
- 12:30their knee, maybe even cut their knee, it might even be bleeding,
- 12:34I want you to see an unfazed face of that child.
- 12:40They are ambivalent. Their priority is to play and
- 12:44have fun, and any damage to their knee is just a minor
- 12:48distraction. And yet some children would have
- 12:53the same fall, the same graze, and be bursting into tears as we
- 13:01plant a seed of an idea that pain is subject to how it's
- 13:08interpreted, the context. It's not objective, preordained,
- 13:17you have influence over the pain that you feel.
- 13:23And imagine climbing upwards, perhaps a hill or even a small
- 13:28mountain views over the city. And I want you to consider this
- 13:34a healing space, a safe place, a place that's entirely your own.
- 13:43And in this healing space, I want you to notice a soft golden
- 13:48light above your head. It's warm, it's peaceful and
- 13:54filled with restorative energy. And as that light begins to
- 14:00descend, it flows over your head, down your neck, and all
- 14:07the way to your elbow. In fact, continue it down to
- 14:12your wrist and your hands, and you may feel or imagine a sense
- 14:17of warmth or a gentle tingling or even just a knowing that
- 14:25something helpful is happening. And I want you to come to the
- 14:31conclusion that this golden light is your body's own healing
- 14:36intelligence, flowing exactly where it's needed.
- 14:42Soothing, repairing and strengthening, but also relaxing
- 14:51and loosening any tightness around that area.
- 14:55And as it continues to flow, it leaves behind a trail of
- 15:01comfort, dissolving tension, reducing inflammation, and
- 15:10allowing any unnecessary discomfort to be released.
- 15:16And maybe you can feel that now, that it's as if your nervous
- 15:21system is being reminded that this pain is not danger, that
- 15:30it's OK to relax now that the healing is already underway.
- 15:38And I want you to bring your focus either to your elbow or
- 15:43perhaps a different part of your body that you may be
- 15:46anticipating intense sensations. And I want you to imagine two
- 15:56things taking place simultaneously.
- 16:00I want you to imagine that that body part, perhaps your elbow or
- 16:03something else, is submerged in a bucket of freezing cold water.
- 16:12And you know it's freezing cold because you could imagine ice
- 16:16floating on the surface. Experience the coldness, perhaps
- 16:23a tingling sensation, and just imagine that the coldness is
- 16:28doing what the coldness does, creating a feeling of numbness
- 16:34in whatever that area is. But in your other hand, I want
- 16:39you to imagine there's a remote control.
- 16:43And this remote control has a dial that controls how much
- 16:48sensation you wish to notice in that area.
- 16:54And maybe it's a remote control connected to a screen, or maybe
- 16:58it has a dial. And I want you to think where it
- 17:03has been set to on that scale of 1 to 10, maybe the intensity of
- 17:08the sensations has been a nine or A10, but I want you to
- 17:14imagine dialling it down slowly. You notice that any sensation
- 17:24shifts, becomes duller, less intense, like turning the volume
- 17:32down on a speaker, 543, even a 2 now, and maybe you connect it to
- 17:42the numbness with that part that might experience future
- 17:48sensations. I want you to get a sense that
- 17:55the coldness is dialing down any sensations.
- 18:00And you've experienced this before, maybe at a dentist where
- 18:05you had that local anesthetic. It felt numb.
- 18:11You knew something was happening, but you couldn't
- 18:13quite feel what was happening. And I want you to imagine that
- 18:20is what's happening in your elbow or any part of your arm
- 18:25that you might be anticipating intense sensations.
- 18:30Feel that you can dial down and numb down those intense
- 18:35sensations. And then I want you to imagine
- 18:44perhaps an upcoming physical therapy session.
- 18:49But instead of being in your body, I want you to imagine
- 18:53seeing yourself as a spectator. You're the spectator seeing
- 18:59yourself undergoing that physical therapy, but you are no
- 19:03longer in your body. It almost feels like an out of
- 19:08body experience, and I want you to imagine that you can observe
- 19:13your elbow or any other body part from a distance.
- 19:19Perhaps like watching a video of someone else receiving therapy,
- 19:24or perhaps as someone else nearby in the room or even
- 19:29gently floating above the room. I want you to have that
- 19:33sensation of being curious, detached and calm, noticing
- 19:42without reacting. I want you to see that physical
- 19:48therapist doing what they're doing, but notice something
- 19:52different in you. Your facial expressions are just
- 19:58calmer, more relaxed. There's less tension in your
- 20:03neck and your shoulders. I want that version of you to
- 20:08process everything is not pain, just sensations, sensations that
- 20:15might be getting less and less intense.
- 20:21And that part of you that's observing is powerful, steady,
- 20:24and wise. And it knows how to keep you
- 20:27calm, centred and strong. And even when your body is doing
- 20:34something hard or potentially necessary, perhaps even useful,
- 20:41I want you to see that version of you with a higher level of
- 20:46composure, calm, almost like that version of you.
- 20:56It's somewhere else. Maybe you're not even looking in
- 21:01the same direction. The opposite of mindfulness is
- 21:05mindlessness. And sometimes it's good to take
- 21:11your mind somewhere else that you know something has happened,
- 21:16but it almost feels like you're not in your own body.
- 21:22And I want you to get a sense sense that every time you
- 21:27experience any form of physical therapy, it passes more quickly
- 21:35than expected, as if the hands on a clock spin a little faster
- 21:39during that time. And even when it's over, you
- 21:43look back and think, that went faster than I thought.
- 21:49When something feels uncomfortable or mundane, time
- 21:52tends to slow down, but other times it goes by in the blink of
- 21:57an eye because time, like perception, is something you can
- 22:02shape and each moment you spend healing you are also
- 22:07strengthening. I want you to think of sometimes
- 22:13things that can take 45 minutes or an hour can feel like 5
- 22:17minutes and just set the intention that time will pass
- 22:22quickly, but before long it will all be over and you can move on.
- 22:32I want you to get a sense that pain is sensations, but it is an
- 22:39objective, it's subjective. Pain is a message, but it's not
- 22:45a punishment. It's just your body asking for
- 22:49your attention, sometimes to warn you, but in this case to
- 22:55let you know that something is changing, adapting and healing.
- 23:02What if these sensations are progress sensations?
- 23:10I want you to get a sense that any progress sensation is
- 23:13temporary and a sign of progress, and before long that
- 23:18will pass, but the progress will continue to feel.
- 23:24Those sensations are simply evidence of progress, just like
- 23:30sore muscles after a long walk, your elbow, your arm is waking
- 23:36up to a new possibility. And you may even begin to
- 23:41appreciate these feelings as milestones, the signs that your
- 23:46body is remembering how to reactivate old tendons that have
- 23:51been dormant, like Sleeping Beauty for a while now.
- 23:55They're awakened. They need to get used to
- 23:59movement and stretching and different positions, but somehow
- 24:05stronger each time, but also feel that the worst is behind
- 24:11you. But these kind of things, it's
- 24:15front loaded. The pain gets less and less
- 24:19because the sensations of progress a building on previous
- 24:23progress. And if there's any frustration
- 24:27or fear, you can imagine placing those emotions in a small box, a
- 24:33strong box with a lock, and you place it on a shelf for later
- 24:39because right now you're focused on healing.
- 24:43So just imagine any sensations that feel too intense, pick them
- 24:49up and put. They're somewhere else far, far
- 24:53away, and you can deal with them later, or never.
- 24:58And now visualize the inner mechanics of your elbow,
- 25:05tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves all working together like
- 25:12a well designed machine being gently repaired.
- 25:16And you can even imagine tiny repair workers healing cells
- 25:21like tiny engineers, rebuilding, reinforcing, restoring
- 25:27flexibility and strength. Or imagine a vine growing
- 25:32through the cracks. New life, new strength woven
- 25:37through your elbow, making it tougher, more adaptable and more
- 25:43mobile. More resilient than ever before.
- 25:51I want you to accept the suggestion that you don't need
- 25:55pain medication. But if you choose to take pain
- 25:59medication, it will be amplified in the specific area of your
- 26:05body that you need it most. Just like that numbed area from
- 26:11the frozen water. I want you to imagine the pain
- 26:16medication goes to work in the specific area to the centimeter,
- 26:24the inch, the millimeter that you need it to be.
- 26:28You are amplifying the pain medication, making them two or
- 26:32three or four times more effective and concentrated in
- 26:37the area that you would need the most.
- 26:41And you might still get some progress sensations.
- 26:47But I want you to feel that just like that remote control, it's
- 26:50dialled all the way down. What was once unbearable now
- 26:57feels manageable. And from now on, every time you
- 27:03begin physical therapy, you'll find yourself calmer, more
- 27:08confident, and more in control. And you'll remember this
- 27:13feeling, this comfort, this distance, this healing energy.
- 27:22And it will return automatically the moment therapy begins.
- 27:28The look of the face of your therapist will give you
- 27:32reassurance. The words explaining what
- 27:36they're doing will help evaluate things positively.
- 27:42Any discomfort or sensations will feel manageable and you'll
- 27:48more and more notice progress, even in the smallest ways.
- 27:53You will be focused not on the sensations, but the progress.
- 27:58More mobility, more time holding a particular position.
- 28:05You will be obsessed with the progress, not with the
- 28:09sensations, And maybe you'll feel proud of yourself for
- 28:14showing up, for doing the hard work, doing what's necessary to
- 28:20give that future version of you a gift.
- 28:24And as the days go by, don't be surprised if your sleep
- 28:28improves, your energy returns your elbow, and your arm feels
- 28:36more and more like your own again, like it's returning back
- 28:41to normal. I wonder if you can imagine now
- 28:47seeing yourself, perhaps a few months from now, after all of
- 28:53this physical therapy and healing.
- 28:56I want you to imagine seeing yourself moving your arm freely,
- 29:01reaching, stretching, lifting, holding something, maybe doing
- 29:06something like using a pen or typing something, but see
- 29:12yourself doing it with ease and confidence and see yourself
- 29:18smiling because you were willing to experience temporary
- 29:23sensations for a greater good. It was worth it.
- 29:28And because your body responded, you may even feel a quiet level
- 29:37of pride knowing that sensations or discomfort or a price you
- 29:44were willing to pay to have that mobility, strength and freedom
- 29:51back. Proud that you trained your mind
- 29:56and trusted the process you were following and the experience of
- 30:01someone that's been doing it for years.
- 30:05When your unconscious mind is connected with these
- 30:10suggestions, feeling that any future therapy sessions are
- 30:14going to be more manageable and you can be calmer and more
- 30:19relaxed knowing that you have given powerful suggestions to
- 30:25your body to reduce the intensity of sensations from
- 30:32intense to mild and subtle. Just let me know by nodding your
- 30:38head. That's it.
- 30:42So imagine now is the time to go back down that hill, that
- 30:48mountain climb back in that glass elevator, and just feel
- 30:55that glass elevator is returning to the top.
- 30:59And the moment it gets to the top, just imagine you're
- 31:00floating all the way back into your body right now, taking all
- 31:05these wonderful new ideas, powerful suggestions and
- 31:09intentions with you. So take a deep breath in through
- 31:13the nose and out through the nose.
- 31:18Wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 31:20Start to connect and calibrate into the here and the now.
- 31:23As I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 31:28You will awaken feeling confident, resilient, and
- 31:32empowered. Starting to count 123 Waking up
- 31:37456. More alert 7-8 Open your eyes.
- 31:42Open your eyes 910. Wide awake, Wide awake.
- 31:47Wide awake. None.
