- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Welcome to Friday. You know, each weekday morning
- 0:10Speaker 1: this week, we've been going through 1 Corinthians chapter 15
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the Bible and looking at the resurrection of Jesus
- 0:18Speaker 1: and what it means, uh, to us. And yesterday we
- 0:21Speaker 1: saw this beautiful truth that Paul points out that Jesus,
- 0:27Speaker 1: the fact he died and rose from the dead, gives
- 0:30Speaker 1: us this assurance, death is not the end, right?
- 0:34Speaker 1: That this life, this earthly life, is not even the
- 0:39Speaker 1: main event, it's just the warm up that the real
- 0:43Speaker 1: thing is our eternal life with God in, in the afterlife,
- 0:50Speaker 1: you could say.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And that is because the resurrection of Jesus shows us
- 0:56Speaker 1: death is not the end. There is life after that.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Our spirits continue on, and that Jesus, being raised in
- 1:05Speaker 1: a physical body, assures us that when Jesus returns, we
- 1:09Speaker 1: also will be united with a resurrection body and live
- 1:13Speaker 1: forever with the Lord.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Well, uh, there's some interesting questions that come to our mind.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Paul brings it up in verse 35. He says, But
- 1:23Speaker 1: someone will ask, how are the dead raised? With what
- 1:28Speaker 1: kind of body do they come? What will that resurrection
- 1:31Speaker 1: body be like if this body where now is a fallen,
- 1:35Speaker 1: broken body because of the sin that's in the world
- 1:38Speaker 1: that broke the world? What will our resurrection body be like?
- 1:43Speaker 1: He says, You foolish person.
- 1:45Speaker 1: What you sow into the ground as a seed does
- 1:48Speaker 1: not come to life unless it dies, and what you
- 1:51Speaker 1: sow is not the body that is to be, but
- 1:54Speaker 1: a bare kernel perhaps of wheat or some other grain,
- 1:58Speaker 1: but God gives it a body as He has chosen.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And isn't that right? You put this little seed in
- 2:04Speaker 1: the ground. It's such.
- 2:05Speaker 1: A poor representation of what it's going to be. That's
- 2:09Speaker 1: the same with these physical bodies we have now. Nothing
- 2:12Speaker 1: like the glory of our resurrection bodies. A little bit
- 2:17Speaker 1: later on, Paul says, so it is with the resurrection
- 2:20Speaker 1: of the dead. What is sown, what we bury when
- 2:24Speaker 1: a person dies, is perishable. What is raised is imperishable.
- 2:30Speaker 1: It is sown in dishonour. It is raised in glory.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It is sown in weakness. It is raised in power.
- 2:39Speaker 1: It is sown a natural body. It is raised a
- 2:44Speaker 1: spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is
- 2:47Speaker 1: also a spiritual body. Thus it is written.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam,
- 2:57Speaker 1: referring to Jesus, the Father of this new humanity, of
- 3:01Speaker 1: those who have trusted in Christ, the last Adam became
- 3:05Speaker 1: a life-giving spirit.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But it is not the spiritual that is first, but
- 3:11Speaker 1: the natural and then the spiritual. The first man was
- 3:15Speaker 1: from the earth, a man of dust. The second man
- 3:18Speaker 1: is from heaven.
- 3:19Speaker 1: As was the man of dust, Adam, so also are
- 3:23Speaker 1: those who are of the dust, and as is the
- 3:25Speaker 1: man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Just as we have borne the image of Adam, the
- 3:33Speaker 1: man of dust, we shall also bear the image that
- 3:36Speaker 1: is the likeness in our resurrection bodies of the man
- 3:39Speaker 1: of heaven, Jesus. I tell you this, brothers, flesh and
- 3:44Speaker 1: blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the
- 3:48Speaker 1: perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery.
- 3:55Speaker 1: We shall not all sleep, that is.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Christ will return before everyone dies, but we shall all
- 4:03Speaker 1: be changed whether you've died and been buried or whether
- 4:07Speaker 1: you're still alive when Christ returns. As a believer, we
- 4:10Speaker 1: shall all be changed in a moment in the twinkling
- 4:14Speaker 1: of an eye at the last trumpet for the.
- 4:17Speaker 1: The will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and we shall be changed, for this perishable body must
- 4:26Speaker 1: put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put
- 4:30Speaker 1: on immortality. And when the perishable puts on the imperishable
- 4:35Speaker 1: and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to
- 4:40Speaker 1: pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up
- 4:45Speaker 1: in victory.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Oh death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?
- 4:51Speaker 1: The sting of death is sin, and the power of
- 4:55Speaker 1: sin is the law. But thanks be to God who
- 4:59Speaker 1: gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I'm
- 5:05Speaker 1: John North.
