- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. Happy Friday.
- 0:15It's Yvonne, too. Good to have you by the
- 0:18microphone. Do you know today, Yvonne, we
- 0:20should go to the gym? Because statistically, today is
- 0:24the day when more people go to the gym than any the day.
- 0:28Of the. Year because they're like,
- 0:29right, this year's going to be different, we're going to be
- 0:31healthy and they go to the gym on the 2nd.
- 0:33Oh that is awesome. So if you've been to the gym,
- 0:36great job. Unfortunately, January the 2nd
- 0:39is also the day that most people realise they've already broken
- 0:43one of their New Year's resolutions.
- 0:45Already. So at whatever end of the
- 0:49spectrum you fall at, whether you've already broken a
- 0:51resolution or two, or whether you have been at the gym, maybe
- 0:56you were hoping to get more involved in God's Word.
- 0:58And here you are listening today.
- 1:00What? Thanks.
- 1:01For joining us. And of course, today it's
- 1:04Friday, so we are going to read some proverbs.
- 1:06We are going to read the last handful of proverbs from
- 1:09Proverbs chapter 19, five of them.
- 1:13So you ready? OK, I'm good.
- 1:15Let's do it. Let's read together Proverbs
- 1:181925 to 29. If you punish A mocha, the
- 1:33simple minded will learn a lesson.
- 1:35If you correct the wise, they will be all the wiser.
- 1:41Children who mistreat their father or chase away their
- 1:44mother are an embarrassment and a public disgrace.
- 1:51If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will
- 1:54turn your back on knowledge. A corrupt witness makes a
- 2:01mockery of justice. The mouth of the wicked gulps
- 2:05down evil. Punishment is made for mockers,
- 2:10and the backs of fools are made to be beaten.
- 2:16And again. If you punish a mocker, the
- 2:21simple minded will learn a lesson.
- 2:23If you correct the wise, they will be all the wiser.
- 2:30Children who mistreat their father or chase away their
- 2:33mother are an embarrassment and a public disgrace.
- 2:38If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you'll
- 2:41turn your back on knowledge. The corrupt witness makes a
- 2:46mockery of justice. The mouth of the wicked gulps
- 2:50down evil. Punishment is made for mockers,
- 2:55and the backs of fools are made to be beaten.
- 3:09Boy, there's a reoccurring theme of being open to feedback, isn't
- 3:13there? Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:15And the wisest people are those who can take that feedback and
- 3:19become even more wise from it. But even if we start off a bit
- 3:22foolish, that's that's OK because we can still be made
- 3:26wiser by listening to that, that lesson that someone might teach
- 3:29us. Yeah.
- 3:30Absolutely. Boy, pretty brutal at the backs
- 3:33of fools are made to be beaten though.
- 3:34Oh yeah. Don't recommend.
- 3:37Well, I guess if this is all about being wise, then if people
- 3:41choose to be fools by not listening, then it's saying that
- 3:45they're kind of setting themselves up for failure.
- 3:51Our Lord, thank you for your wisdom, your wisdom that says we
- 3:55don't have to have it all, that we don't have to be the fountain
- 3:59of all knowledge, but we need an open heart, an open heart to to
- 4:04hear from those around us when they would speak words of life
- 4:07and and wisdom to us. And Lord, most of all, it's you
- 4:11that speaks words of life and wisdom.
- 4:15I said, Lord, I pray that you would keep us with a open
- 4:18hearted posture, ready to hear your wisdom and ready to change
- 4:23if required, to live more wisely and not be that fool who's
- 4:28already sealed his fate. So as this new year begins, we
- 4:34pray that your wisdom would guide us and that we would grow
- 4:38more and more like you every day.
- 4:41And we pray this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
