  [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, folks.
• 0:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
• 0:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: This is Ken McEuse.
• 0:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to back for part two of our discussion in the offense and this big opening day winning against the Colts 40, one to 23, and Indianapolis.
• 0:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you what, this sort of amount of shot and Freudia that comes, was seeing Colts fans kind of despairing over the game and there are a lot of nice shots of the crowd, hands on head, you know, just sunken, long faces and whatnot, and I got to say I was reveling in every part of it, but Jason Smith,
• 0:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Join me from Huddle It Up Films, Jason, how are you doing?
• 0:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And did you partake in that shot and for it?
• 0:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I will say that I have a habit of
• 0:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Saturday night usually and then I before the game I finally get to the point where I can consume content of the other team.
• 0:51
[SPEAKER_00]: You know like all my work is done and Saturday night I'm just fired up for the game so let me hit up see what some of the what the cold speed reporters are saying and some of the people that do what we do are saying.
• 1:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Man they were awful confident and cocky you know I always get a kick out of the Lamar stuff how they see Lamar but this was more like
• 1:13
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm looking at the Ravens receiver room.
• 1:16
[SPEAKER_00]: They got nothing like their passing game has nothing and the far spuck near that was the one that, you know, I was worried about the far spuck near versus Then you go, you want a and to a vong win advantage there.
• 1:27
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we saw that.
• 1:27
[SPEAKER_00]: But no respect for the Ravens defense and bringing up how stike and put up 38 and they were borderline, you know, cocky a lot of them.
• 1:37
[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, they don't study the Ravens, but I don't see it, you know, because I think a lot of people just go by the skill position players, you know, there can result or, you know, they got zafel ours.
• 1:47
[SPEAKER_00]: He's good, but he's not really that good.
• 1:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: They have nobody else.
• 1:51
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that's a little satisfaction and, you know, I don't comment, you know, and I mean, I don't comment on them.
• 1:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I just let them go.
• 1:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: But, um,
• 2:00
[SPEAKER_00]: You're a lurker and plus, you know, the team left when I was eight years old well before I turned eight So I did have that actual like I remember it.
• 2:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I was heartbroken You know, I'd burnt June's poster on my wall on all the whole nine So of course there will always be a little bit of grudge against Indianapolis although I will say it's faded over the years because I'd rather I'd rather be a Ravensman
• 2:25
[SPEAKER_01]: I, we're very lucky to be rid of the air says and have Shiba Shadi here owning the team in town.
• 2:31
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's for sure.
• 2:32
  [SPEAKER_01]: True.
• 2:32
  [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
• 2:33
  [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
• 2:35
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's talk a little bit of scheme, uh, some results too as we go through this.
• 2:39
[SPEAKER_01]: They, a lot of this is about the running backs, but they, they played Henry 37 out of the 68 snaps.
• 2:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: He'll be of the 31.
• 2:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't play any pony rushing out lead.
• 2:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Did not see the field, although we saw several nice shots of him on the sideline.
• 2:50
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, you know, it was a different game.
• 2:52
[SPEAKER_01]: So his presence was understood, but he, but he never got in the game on the offensive side of the ball.
• 2:58
[SPEAKER_01]: You in the first half of the show, you mentioned about the yards before contact for Henry and I heard the same thing quoted.
• 3:04
[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, Rob Long was asking me about it this morning.
• 3:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I had come in with a number over four yards per carry and I thought it probably had to be definitely based.
• 3:14
[SPEAKER_01]: The YACO number from, you know, it's after contact number from PFF is at 4.3 which is a very, very high number.
• 3:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And that was, despite a kind of a low miss tackles force, which is what I really want to talk about with Derek andrey.
• 3:28
[SPEAKER_01]: It had three miss tackles forced on 24 tackles, sorry, 24 carries today, which is a, a rate of point one, two, five, one, eight.
• 3:37
[SPEAKER_01]: That is not very good.
• 3:39
[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, his career low is point one four.
• 3:42
[SPEAKER_01]: He did that last year when he had kind of a, you know, that was the, that was the Achilles heel that is in his Russian game.
• 3:49
[SPEAKER_01]: And in his rookie year, he was that low, but for instance, in 2024, he was at point 24 per play.
• 3:55
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's breaking tons of tackles.
• 3:58
[SPEAKER_01]: They brought in Eddie Faulkner as a coach this year.
• 4:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Eddie Faulkner is the ultimate tackle breaking guru in the NFL.
• 4:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Really understands leverage how to keep your feet, contact balance, the things to go into breaking this tackle, it's probably teach us a stiff arm pretty well too.
• 4:18
[SPEAKER_01]: The great job with the Pittsburgh
• 4:21
[SPEAKER_01]: running backs in terms of having a passing game, mostly a short passing game that effectively is an extension of the running game, getting them into space and having the break tackle.
• 4:29
[SPEAKER_01]: So they've even wore a Naji Harris and game well, all terrific tackle breakers, and the various shapes and sizes, but are all terrific tackle breakers.
• 4:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I really hope that he'd have a big impact on DR Henry coming here.
• 4:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that he does.
• 4:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, Miss Tackle Raid is just one one thing that's what we're talking about here, obviously.
• 4:52
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, Derek Henry's been in the league, you know, so long, you know, Willie Taggart, I'm sure of taught him things that he takes with him just like every other running back coach that he's had, that coach.
• 5:03
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I like the Faulkner higher at something different.
• 5:07
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, hopefully we get to see like those Pittsburgh backs we're used in the in the past game.
• 5:12
[SPEAKER_00]: A whole lot, you know, and that's let's be frank, those DBs will we'll get you they will get to you excuse me.
• 5:19
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll make contact with you, but they're easier to break tackles compared to, you know, a lineback or one on one, no space to really juke.
• 5:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Where you just have to go through the guy.
• 5:28
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, you know, with their canry, I also wonder if these.
• 5:32
[SPEAKER_00]: stats are skewed to the two really long runs, right?
• 5:35
[SPEAKER_00]: They had like a 22 yarder in the long touchdown.
• 5:39
[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about the Jaco now.
• 5:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, the Jaco to where it's like, okay, it's only one missed attack.
• 5:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It's only only force one missed tackle, but the yards after contact are really high.
• 5:50
[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe there's two plays I'm saying skewed the difference between those two numbers.
• 5:56
  [SPEAKER_01]: could be.
• 5:57
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's 24 carries.
• 5:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the longer the carry, you have some additional chances to make missed tackles down the field.
• 6:03
[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, you can't have that 87 yard running.
• 6:06
[SPEAKER_01]: It's Buffalo a couple of years ago was all yards before contact, basically.
• 6:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I tossed onto that side.
• 6:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I don't want to get too deep into it.
• 6:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, it's not enough data for me to be really excited about it.
• 6:16
[SPEAKER_01]: The big number, I think I'm excited about it.
• 6:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Here are counties on pace for 400 e carries right now.
• 6:21
[SPEAKER_01]: which he won't get there but 24 carries a game is a very very heavy workload nice to see him work work through it with relative ease.
• 6:30
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this is a good time to bring up Adam Randall who we're not going to talk about too much on this show, but I have a feeling that that's the, that's the plan there can it's that, you know, we saw just a silver on this scheme and it just, it's just not the same, but I think Adam Randall could have success in this scheme, so Loki lean on Derek Henry for the first four weeks or how or along Randall's going to be out, then when you bring it back, you know, maybe you give Randall a series or two, or maybe you have him end a game that's a blowout.
• 6:58
[SPEAKER_00]: If we get up on, say the Falcons by three touchdowns, Adam Rand will get the series here.
• 7:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he gets another series, you know, every other series or something like that.
• 7:08
[SPEAKER_00]: To where he can give Derek Henry's 300 carries, which is still a heavy workload, but, you know, you're not crushing him.
• 7:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, he picked up 60 carries himself and and do something I've even if Derek Henry gets 300.
• 7:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Randall is clearly the insurance policy as a bell cab back because if anything happened to Henry, they don't they don't have that guy right now on the roster unless it's Randall.
• 7:28
  [SPEAKER_01]: It ain't all right.
• 7:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: It agreed.
• 7:30
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 7:32
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, what else to say?
• 7:33
[SPEAKER_01]: 58.3% success rate for Derek in this game.
• 7:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I love to see that anytime you're in the mid 50s or higher.
• 7:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: And he'd been a 56.1% and he's two great years.
• 7:44
[SPEAKER_01]: He's had for the Ravens 40, 9.3% in his career at Tennessee.
• 7:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's off to a great start this season in terms of having runs that keep him up with the stick.
• 7:56
[SPEAKER_01]: So nice job in that category in this game.
• 7:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought especially impressive because, you know, obviously the Ravens at a boatload of points at half time, what was a 31 points at half time.
• 8:08
[SPEAKER_00]: So in the second half, there were a lot of predictable rushing, you know, rushing plays rushing, you know, yards.
• 8:14
[SPEAKER_00]: So for him to have that kind of success rate when for most or half the game, Indianapolis kind of was playing the run is impressive.
• 8:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, great, great point.
• 8:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And even on the final drive, they knew it was coming.
• 8:27
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't even think at that point, they knew it was coming and they couldn't stop it.
• 8:31
[SPEAKER_01]: They knew it was coming and they didn't really care to stop it.
• 8:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 8:35
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, it's the loud nine yards on first down and then they allowed another seven.
• 8:39
[SPEAKER_01]: And they knew that all they had to do was basically give up the first down and then they could go home.
• 8:44
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I saw some lack of effort from the corners quite frankly, um, you know, the, the, the, the first touchdown.
• 8:51
[SPEAKER_00]: It just didn't look like.
• 8:52
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll scarred and I wanted to fight off that clock and just take on Henry in a situation where he's going to give up the touchdown pretty much anyway, probably, it's just not worth the risk on my body to go
• 9:14
[SPEAKER_01]: The 32 yard touchdown was was more blocking by them, right?
• 9:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was zero.
• 9:19
  [SPEAKER_01]: He was blocking, right?
• 9:20
[SPEAKER_01]: In the corner, down by the corner.
• 9:24
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to, I'm trying to remember.
• 9:25
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 9:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's can't bind them, so he's a, he's a safety, right?
• 9:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess my recollection.
• 9:31
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's a guy who should be big enough and physical enough to try and take on Derek Henry, but doesn't mean what's to?
• 9:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, and he's their free safety, too.
• 9:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe that's because they have inexperienced players elsewhere.
• 9:42
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got to play the back end.
• 9:44
[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think that that was by now, in that last level.
• 9:49
[SPEAKER_01]: Gap and Zone, you're happy with the division of that.
• 9:52
[SPEAKER_01]: You're liking the new very, very heavy zone weight in this game.
• 9:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: Love it.
• 9:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if it's Derek Henry, again, you can see the difference for someone who is a pro.
• 10:02
[SPEAKER_00]: It just running that scheme and, you know, compared to just a silly, and I don't want to bash on just a silly, too much machine I'll leave, by the way, I think is best work.
• 10:12
[SPEAKER_00]: At least on the college level was in outside zone run because if you notice machine I'll eat never looks like he's in a hurry.
• 10:18
[SPEAKER_00]: You have people that question is speed and things like that.
• 10:21
  [SPEAKER_00]: He's just a very paid rave.
• 10:22
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just a very silky and patient type of guy.
• 10:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Nonetheless, you know, we ran out of the pistol for a touchdown with Walmart.
• 10:31
[SPEAKER_00]: So I love the way we mixed up the running game while still keeping the outside zone as our bread and butter.
• 10:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And we saw what eight poles in the game, but they're all singles.
• 10:41
[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the hallmarks of the offense for really a last two coordinators, both in the Roman era and in the market era, was to have lots of counter plays where they would have.
• 10:52
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, two guys pulling either center tackle or center guard, yeah, center guard.
• 10:57
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, the center tackle or guard tackle, right?
• 11:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't, they didn't really do that at all.
• 11:04
[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't do it even one time in this game.
• 11:05
[SPEAKER_01]: So they've more or less,
• 11:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Converted away from power, they still ran it about a third of their place that they had, but it's a lot of it's a lot of zone and they're really committing to it.
• 11:16
[SPEAKER_01]: You could kind of see it coming in the in the preseason in terms of the drills they do for the offensive line and much more of these zone exchanges is opposed to like typical power combination blocks and it's a, you know, it definitely they've gone more even more that I thought they would in the direction of zone.
• 11:36
  [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say that.
• 11:38
[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I want to add this, I was impressed with not only the way that you want to win and Simpson got off the ball, Roger Rosengarten was just ridiculous with his ability to reach block three tech and just cross that guy's face.
• 11:53
[SPEAKER_00]: But also, but also can, you know, one, a lot of these zone runs.
• 11:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not man blocking the, almost the definition of zone is that you got your zone.
• 12:05
[SPEAKER_00]: And the defense will often change the picture on you.
• 12:07
[SPEAKER_00]: So this guy will, will run Blitz.
• 12:09
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy will intentionally cross somebody's face off the snap.
• 12:13
[SPEAKER_00]: So that picture changes in a hurry or can change in a hurry.
• 12:17
[SPEAKER_00]: The mental preparedness of these guys, you know, as I've seen the physical skills, was just awesome.
• 12:23
[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought John Simpson really stood out in this level to where, you know, these defensive linemen or linebackers could do something different.
• 12:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Then you would normally see off the snap and those guys adjusted and took care of their zone passed off guys beautifully So it looked just really well coached and I didn't see that during the preseason You know, I was a little disappointed in the offensive line during the preseason
• 12:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they're dealing with those starters or a continuous group and sword.
• 12:52
  [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's part of it.
• 12:53
[SPEAKER_00]: It's true, but we weren't, we weren't dealing with starters on defense, either in that damn short look like a Jesse Man defense.
• 12:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see a joint lead for all offensive line in the free season and man, they came out and it just looked beautiful.
• 13:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you got a different right tackle every week.
• 13:08
[SPEAKER_01]: You've just signed off the street, you know, David Sharper, a dentigee, or whatever, yeah, there's some, there's some limiting factors, but I agree with you.
• 13:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's a bigger drop-off sometimes between the ones and the twos in terms of adaptability required by zone.
• 13:22
[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason is that if you're an offensive line that you've learned at a very young age, how to run power,
• 13:27
[SPEAKER_01]: zone is something that comes along usually a little later, I'd say, in terms of your football development.
• 13:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So, the primary thing you have to do, learn how to make combination blocks of the line of scramage, learn how to climb effectively, learn how to take your cues on what is the appropriate time to climb.
• 13:43
[SPEAKER_01]: and then look for work in level two and know where your primary is or secondary and what you should be looking for, set your eyes right in level two, and that offensive linemen that can master some very basic skills there, can execute that fundamentally soundly.
• 13:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think those stay with you more like riding a bicycle than some of the complexities of zone you're talking about.
• 14:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the things is, you know, the notion that either have to get in front of a guy or guy who can't cross your face or he does
• 14:08
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the guy who's ahead of you in the elephant parade needs to note a block him with his back sometimes, which by the way was also a rose and garden and this yes, very effectively.
• 14:18
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a lot more to it in terms of it's not as easy, I think if you're one way you're riding a bicycle, maybe the other you're riding a motorcycle or something.
• 14:28
[SPEAKER_00]: No, you're 100% right, the easiest way when you're starting kids, it's 101 and of course it just builds up from there because To have a unit that well coach to spend that time in the chemistry It was just awesome for a group that you know is playing together for the first time in a live game You know with a standing and rosin garden out there.
• 14:47
[SPEAKER_00]: It just it looked really well executed and I will say two can just the last note on this the kombu blocks the duo
• 14:55
[SPEAKER_00]: All that stuff looked pretty tight too, like there wasn't a lot of space between the offense of Lyme, and they looked like they were hip to hip, driving some guys.
• 15:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I think their results varied from time to time, but very technically sound and very well-timed.
• 15:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely had some highlight combination blocks in this game, not a large number, but maybe three or four to spread about the line as a whole.
• 15:18
[SPEAKER_01]: What do we jump into the offensive line right now we just toss out a synopsis out there at the top here is that the mark took two sacks in this game in the offensive line was responsible for slightly more than a half of that They had a one half of one and two thirds of the other as I saw it They allowed four pressures in the game otherwise and one quarterback hit
• 15:36
  [SPEAKER_01]: And that's on 26 past places.
• 15:37
[SPEAKER_01]: That's really not bad as a overall result for 26 plays.
• 15:42
[SPEAKER_01]: The thing that was bad was that they were flagged five times.
• 15:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And that caused the offense a lot.
• 15:49
[SPEAKER_01]: They were fortunate to get away with it in a game like this.
• 15:51
[SPEAKER_01]: So they scored 3.42 points per drive anyway.
• 15:56
[SPEAKER_01]: But they should have had, you know, another 10 to 14 points from the drives that got stalled.
• 16:01
[SPEAKER_01]: by probably by the offensive line alone and then you toss in the hill drive that the start he started with two penalties.
• 16:08
[SPEAKER_01]: It was it was an ugly game for offensive offensive penalties.
• 16:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I would say it's my second biggest concern.
• 16:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Zay's health being number one.
• 16:15
  [SPEAKER_00]: Introducing healthy health.
• 16:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Need to say healthy in depth on the offensive line as well.
• 16:20
  [SPEAKER_00]: So let's face it.
• 16:21
[SPEAKER_00]: We gotta keep our guards in center healthy, but our guards especially healthy, but tackles the whole thing.
• 16:27
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the penalties can't afford to shoot ourselves in the foot like we did.
• 16:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Because we play a better team where maybe we're not or as much on our game.
• 16:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we're a little off that day, and it's a closer game.
• 16:38
[SPEAKER_00]: There's penalties are gonna catch up.
• 16:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Alrighty, so Ken, go on into the offensive line performances.
• 16:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: My favorite, uh,
• 16:48
[SPEAKER_00]: player of the game on the offensive line was Roger Rosengard and we just talked about him.
• 16:53
[SPEAKER_00]: The outside zone fits him well.
• 16:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was one of the more complete games that I saw from Roger, that yeah there were a couple of plays, whether they were counted as a pressure or not, where I felt like he was getting bullied or pushed back, but as the right tackle, you know, guys who are rushing over your side when Lamar Jackson is your quarterback,
• 17:11
[SPEAKER_00]: have to be disciplined, so that's not as much of a concern, but I think they were really able to weaponize Roger Rosengarden as a run block or love to his game and would love to hear what you had to say on him.
• 17:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I'll give you my scoring straight off the bat here 60 plays 55 blocks he missed three though whole game which is good.
• 17:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Had one and by the way, back side of run plays is where it's very easy to miss blocks, particularly on zone run plays, but even maybe even more so on power run plays because it's just not necessarily anybody to block in your general vicinity so you can be chasing the play and get a zero quite possibly so guys who can figure out how to make a contribution in that case.
• 17:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: can do very well.
• 17:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's one of the things I think you mentioned, the reachbark that Rosen Garden made where he basically got all the way around the tackle I believe it was to basically seal him.
• 18:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Back towards the right side of the field.
• 18:06
[SPEAKER_01]: That was a very nice play there and it's one that you have to be a fairly athletic tackle to be able to make.
• 18:15
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, Rosengart has done some things to improve his stamina this off season, but I think he says he's really committed to becoming a better run blocker in this game.
• 18:25
[SPEAKER_01]: really good first dividend on it because he did a lot of things well.
• 18:29
[SPEAKER_01]: So besides the half a pressure he gave up by giving for two thirds of the sack, all he did really on that play was give up the initial pressure.
• 18:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So it was kind of going between well, it should have been half the sack, because Lamar kind of held the ball.
• 18:40
[SPEAKER_01]: And then if maybe somebody else gave up a portion of this, then that wasn't really the case that the you want a or whoever had given up the additional second guy that made ended up making the sack, it was after three seconds.
• 18:54
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, basically, I came down, I couldn't come up with a better division of it than two thirds to Rosengarten and a third to Jackson.
• 19:02
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, that's how I went with it.
• 19:05
[SPEAKER_01]: 50 points for the game, 0.83 per play, adjustment was 0.06.
• 19:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Part of the reason he gets a high adjustment in this game, first of all, he had a lot to on his side that he was dealing with.
• 19:14
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the best outside guy that Colts have to offer.
• 19:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And he had three blocks in level two, that's good for a right tackle, five pancakes, which might be the highest total of his career.
• 19:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to go back and check that against the games of the last two seasons.
• 19:28
[SPEAKER_01]: But five pancakes is very unusual for anybody in a game.
• 19:32
[SPEAKER_01]: He had one of one on polls, and that was an actually an outside poll to the right, and he had one highlight box.
• 19:37
[SPEAKER_01]: So really good game from Rosengarten.
• 19:39
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought a PFF item scored fairly low in this game.
• 19:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they probably had him for a, you know, a B minus game, and an Ike buddy was a pretty solid A.
• 19:49
[SPEAKER_00]: agree agreed so what about our other tackle Ronnie Stanley what did you think in his debut in this system you know for me Ronnie I just I would say that it was about expectations maybe a little bit below average you know he was facing ardent key who a lot of the game who is a professional player a smart player you know lacks the physical skills but Ronnie's a smart player
• 20:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Ronnie's a veteran player so I kind of expected him to do a better job overall handling ardent key primarily and you know I would just say from a season perspective while through that end before I kick it to you.
• 20:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just I'm just hoping Ronnie can have a healthy season and and give us average left tackle play step up when it's needed and you know make himself a better part of the run game and I will be pretty happy with that.
• 20:40
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, me too.
• 20:41
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think if it's first of all, when you're on the wrong side of 30, you definitely want an offensive line in anywhere, or really pretty much a player anywhere, to maintain their level of the previous year is all you can ask.
• 20:52
[SPEAKER_01]: And to beat father time continuously, like that, is really something special.
• 20:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why you know, player like Derek Henry,
• 20:59
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, beat it like a rendered mule and it's first year with the Ravens.
• 21:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And then beat it really again in his second year with the Ravens appears to be on the way to beating it again yet for a third year is so darn special.
• 21:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Henry, I'm sorry, it's a standly, he missed some blocks in this game.
• 21:14
[SPEAKER_01]: He had six missed blocks, part of that's being on the backside of zone plays.
• 21:19
[SPEAKER_01]: He had one quarterback hit aloud.
• 21:20
[SPEAKER_01]: He allowed half a sack.
• 21:22
[SPEAKER_01]: The big play which caused him a bunch of points was the chalk block.
• 21:25
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what I hear sort of
• 21:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I think happened on this play is Simpson through a, took the opportunity, probably is looking as a opponent, try to figure out what might work and say, let me throw a cut block on the guy on this play, the ball is supposed to be out quickly or whatever, throws a cut block and then Stanley without really thinking about engages with the play are up high and that's all you need to do to have a chop block.
• 21:48
[SPEAKER_01]: You can't block alignment low and high.
• 21:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Used to be the consecutive linemen were allowed to do that to defensive linemen.
• 21:55
[SPEAKER_01]: But they changed that rule a few years ago and you can't anymore.
• 21:57
  [SPEAKER_01]: So that's a chop block.
• 21:59
[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, Ken, very dangerous play.
• 22:02
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm glad they have that rule out because this was an innocuous and accidental.
• 22:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Not a very dangerous, but there were some offensive linemen back in the day who would go out.
• 22:13
[SPEAKER_00]: And it looked like they were purposely trying to hurt the defensive line and by engaging them up top and to come in at their knee sideways.
• 22:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So no problem with the call and then problem with the rule.
• 22:22
[SPEAKER_00]: It was just I'm with you.
• 22:23
[SPEAKER_01]: It was just kind of an accidental thing right there it was it was kind of a fluke and and honestly I don't here's the here's the part that really bothers me I don't remember the Ravens throwing a cut block in 10 plus years not seeing maybe never ever ever but basically
• 22:40
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're looking at every single block over I've looked at every single block over the last 20 years by the Ravens and it used to be something they would employ in the early 2010s like right around 2010 I remember they that it gave me gets a jets and Michael or was here and they had you know multiple guys cut blocking on the same play occasionally and then the Ravens have totally cut that out and part of the reason I think they did it was to get rid of the chop block, you know,
• 23:05
[SPEAKER_01]: killing a drive basically right away is that's a 15 yard penalty and it's a really serious foul and so I think Simpson is probably remembering his last two years with a jets and saying well this has been effective location and let me try this on an ad lib basis without really kind of putting the dots together that the ravens don't allow this.
• 23:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's been, I think probably they have put a moratorium on it for years and Simpson just kind of forgot of itself, which unfortunately has been part of Simpson's penalty issue in the past.
• 23:35
[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say this, it happened again in level two, another play where Simpson pushed a guy from behind, who was already engaged, they don't normally call a chop block there, but they could have.
• 23:46
[SPEAKER_01]: And that was kind of an interesting case where I thought
• 23:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Now I got you, I had that mixed little sense that it was.
• 23:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Simpson just kind of go off script, maybe he didn't feel like he could reach the guy properly and just decided to go for the cut.
• 24:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 24:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: I thought a bit.
• 24:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 24:03
[SPEAKER_01]: But just thought to be more effective.
• 24:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's okay.
• 24:07
[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be, you got to understand play like the rules of the team because the rules of the team are what the other line meant are depending on.
• 24:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So while Stanley got that penalty, I do support looking at that one and saying, if he hadn't had that penalty, what would have scored been, he would have had a C grade for
• 24:27
[SPEAKER_01]: As it was, he got 37 points and he had a fall start to 0.62 per play, had a small adjustment.
• 24:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Right in the middle of the D range, he would have been right in the middle of the C range if he hadn't had that penalty.
• 24:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Did I have three blocks in level two?
• 24:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Did not honestly, if I'm going to say one thing about him this year that I didn't really really see.
• 24:45
[SPEAKER_01]: It still says smarts at the line of scrimmage in order to like engage two blockers in a row at the end of the line, knows how to pass one off inside and take the outside guy.
• 24:53
[SPEAKER_01]: So there isn't pursuit on a run block that's going in the other direction, but there's not a lot otherwise he can do mobility-wise.
• 24:59
  [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't seem.
• 25:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he may have lost a little bit of a step since last year when I thought his mobility was fairly decent.
• 25:06
[SPEAKER_00]: got a last two years.
• 25:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was probably the best part of this game.
• 25:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So we mentioned John Simpson playing next to Stanley.
• 25:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And I see you have here at, you know, spoiler.
• 25:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I have access to Ken's notes here in grades.
• 25:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Seven misblocks have seemed a little higher high to me.
• 25:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, I don't chart him like you do.
• 25:25
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had a pretty good game.
• 25:27
[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't it wasn't a bad game at all.
• 25:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's a C++ game overall.
• 25:31
[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't get charged with the penalty, you know, that that went to Stanley.
• 25:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So he didn't have any penalties.
• 25:37
[SPEAKER_01]: But if somebody made the point that five five penalties on the Ravens offensive line and none of them to John Simpson, you know, kind of one of the odds.
• 25:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: and it's a good point.
• 25:45
[SPEAKER_01]: He did allow one-and-a-half pressures in the game.
• 25:48
[SPEAKER_01]: There was, there was an early pressure by the way.
• 25:50
[SPEAKER_01]: This was one of the plays of the game that that actually makes it kind of a hard, judgment call on an individual pressure.
• 25:56
[SPEAKER_01]: But in the end, there's only, there's really only half a pressure involved this.
• 25:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't feel bad about the number of points that got exchanged here.
• 26:02
[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to be transparent about it.
• 26:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Is that there's a play where Gwen makes no block.
• 26:07
[SPEAKER_01]: which is bad in itself.
• 26:09
[SPEAKER_01]: And Simpson has his arm out as if he's making like the supporting right arm block where he's then scanning for his activity from center to right, you know, is there is there a stun?
• 26:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a blitz coming?
• 26:21
[SPEAKER_01]: My next move is to give a help block to the left tackle.
• 26:25
[SPEAKER_01]: look like it is because he had his arm out like that.
• 26:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought well that probably was Gwen's responsibility.
• 26:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Gwen is the lesser you know veterans that veterans since he status at least a fourth year player and he's played with lead for it.
• 26:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was probably his job to make that block.
• 26:41
[SPEAKER_01]: So after I looked at it a couple of times I moved half a pressure over to Gwen instead of, I said, Simpson, but the guy just ran right between him and what made Simpson look
• 26:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And kind of chases after him, which is part of the e-mote you look for in a player to kind of assign the blame for that.
• 27:01
[SPEAKER_00]: I you ever remember that play and I signed it in my mind to win.
• 27:05
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
• 27:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Just for the same reason you said, since then that is right arm out, feeling for if he had to take on somebody who was winning against win to that side.
• 27:16
[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't expect the free rusher coming.
• 27:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So, and then you looked at the numbers.
• 27:21
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like when was doing anything.
• 27:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Like a one on one blitz.
• 27:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that, that seemed like when's got to me.
• 27:27
  [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah.
• 27:28
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, completely, completely agree.
• 27:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And then one of the pressures that Simpson allowed, he had his head down on a block.
• 27:33
[SPEAKER_01]: This is just a really bad technique issue, but he was helping Gwen to his right on the block, but he put his head down in so doing.
• 27:41
[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course, that's the play where the middle linebacker comes on the list through that left-be gap and he's not picking it up.
• 27:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And so he just, it's a player which generates a processing error effectively
• 28:00
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so Simpson anyway, that's all the events we've talked about the right here.
• 28:03
[SPEAKER_01]: You did have three blocks in level two, two pancakes, five out of six on polls for John Simpson, who's the only guy who has asked to pull significantly on the night.
• 28:11
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of those run past plays by the way that the Ravens are trying to reconstruct a pocket with a poll, something I think of when I think of the 2008 and 2009 Ravens, great offensive lines by the way.
• 28:21
[SPEAKER_01]: the two best in Raven's history for my money, and they did a lot of polling to reestablish a pocket.
• 28:28
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of their scheme from an unbalanced line.
• 28:31
[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens, I think they had one unbalanced in this game, but they also had several six man lines.
• 28:36
[SPEAKER_01]: They had an unbalanced right on the very first drive.
• 28:38
[SPEAKER_01]: The five yard touchdown run was unbalanced with Stanley on the right side.
• 28:46
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's it.
• 28:47
[SPEAKER_01]: The five yard was, well, more touch down run was unbalanced with standing on that right side.
• 28:52
[SPEAKER_01]: So they were, they were, the decide Lamar left to was just one, uh, just the guard on that side with a tight hand covering him off.
• 28:59
  [SPEAKER_00]: Love it.
• 29:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, did you give you grade one?
• 29:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I'm sorry.
• 29:03
[SPEAKER_01]: There's Simson got a C plus for the game.
• 29:06
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
• 29:07
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
• 29:07
  [SPEAKER_00]: Excellent.
• 29:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, what about Joe Van Gwin?
• 29:09
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll save the rookie for the last, I guess.
• 29:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to me, Ken Joe Van Gwin, it was like a, uh,
• 29:16
[SPEAKER_00]: extremely high gate grade in the run game and the opposite for the past game.
• 29:21
[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of looked like a mini linderbomb out there where it was you know ball of fire off the line very very active and then in the past game you know was overwhelmed everything wasn't always clean so it was a tale of two things I think you know my opinion here will be that
• 29:39
[SPEAKER_00]: When you get Ethan Posick he's going to be more of that like we're the ravens we're looking in the draft it you know different kind of centers and there were a lot of smaller undersized guys like Jovank when you know you're Logan Jones from Iowa for example and some other guys Ethan Posick to me.
• 29:56
[SPEAKER_00]: is kind of like the Jake Slaughter or the group where he's, he's not explosive enough to move people, but he's, he's big enough to prevent movement and he'll get to his spots.
• 30:05
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that when posted his healthy, maybe he could be the better choice because I think he will be the better fast blocker, but at the same time, Gwen does have something to offer as a run blocker.
• 30:15
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm with you.
• 30:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I post it because really the technician in the group.
• 30:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go through win quickly 51 out of 60 blocks.
• 30:21
  [SPEAKER_01]: So you missed 7.
• 30:22
[SPEAKER_01]: He gave up 2 half pressures.
• 30:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Frankly, you know, if there weren't other people to share those pressures, he probably would have looked a little worse on the game there.
• 30:31
[SPEAKER_01]: He also got ran out of a pressure early on by Lamar.
• 30:34
[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, the third and 16 play, he and Stanley basically gave up a shared, another shared pressure, but Lamar ran them out of it for the for the for the run.
• 30:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: So,
• 30:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I took a hit on each of them in their adjustment score, but I didn't charge them with a pressure there.
• 30:49
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, of course, he had the holding panelies very costly.
• 30:52
[SPEAKER_01]: And particularly when you get a hold at center, that's going to cost you at least a full grade level and sometimes a little bit more, particularly in a game that's not very long like this with 60 snaps, because he loses five points on that alone.
• 31:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: By the way,
• 31:07
[SPEAKER_01]: This is not the weak folks.
• 31:09
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to tell me, I'm wrong about the penalty being overcharge.
• 31:14
[SPEAKER_01]: All you have to do is look at the Ravens results in this game.
• 31:16
[SPEAKER_01]: They would score 50 points if weren't for those five penalties.
• 31:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And those five penalties, you know, raised four first downs in of themselves.
• 31:22
[SPEAKER_01]: That raised one touchdown directly.
• 31:25
[SPEAKER_01]: that did not get back, they ended up with a fourth and three play that didn't work out.
• 31:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And the point has always been that when this is a successful play, like Zayflower is going for 49 yards or a big run play from Derek Henry getting 32 yards, there's a lot of people with their hands out wanting credit for that play.
• 31:43
[SPEAKER_01]: So Lamar Jackson wants his 15% commission on all rushing yards.
• 31:46
  [SPEAKER_01]: And you know,
• 31:47
[SPEAKER_01]: More making a great block down the field and you I think Andrew's might have made a good block on that play And you have a line in each getting a getting a share and you know kind of sealing off the play from anybody getting the handring on the left side And you might have a climber in there.
• 31:58
[SPEAKER_01]: It does something good There's a whole lot of people who get a share of that of that play when there's a 10-yard holding call It's all you baby.
• 32:06
  [SPEAKER_01]: It is all you
• 32:08
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just the nature of the game here and it's, you know, there's a big difference.
• 32:13
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a big asymmetric difference in what happens negatively when you get burnt on a holding penalty.
• 32:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And the most you can possibly do positively on a good block.
• 32:24
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the nature of offensive line play and that's the people who are not getting that are are not scoring offensive line play correctly.
• 32:32
[SPEAKER_01]: I just state that as simply as I can and this was a game
• 32:38
[SPEAKER_01]: that the pennilies are very serious and should carry a very heavy charge.
• 32:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't blame the raffle, is that what you're telling?
• 32:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And you can buy the graph, that's fine.
• 32:46
[SPEAKER_01]: If the ref got the coal wrong, I'm fine with that.
• 32:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know that, or if the guy was, guy wasn't really responsible for the penalty, like, might have been the case with Stanley, I'm fine.
• 32:54
[SPEAKER_01]: And doing that, if the wrong guy got called for the penalty, I'm no problem, I'll re-correct a signing that thing.
• 32:59
[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, no, I was more messing with you.
• 33:02
[SPEAKER_00]: No, well, well, well taken.
• 33:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, penalties are important, especially there's holding once they answer my goodness.
• 33:08
  [SPEAKER_01]: So 44 points for Gwyneth Center, that's a 0.73, which is a D- at center.
• 33:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And I had to take his entire adjustment away.
• 33:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Part of it was for the zero R he allowed me to run out of a pressure by Lamar.
• 33:22
[SPEAKER_01]: But the other one was that his snaps were terrible.
• 33:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, a shotgun.
• 33:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And in fact, we talked about this first show, but if you can mitigate the negative value
• 33:35
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, running under center looks all that much better to me even though I think there's you know, they're attracting factors for it I think that's a that's a good reason to do it
• 33:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Gotcha, D-minus, D-minus, so we'd save the rookie for last year.
• 33:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Vega Yawani making his NFL debut, and, you know, from my perspective, candidate, it kind of mirrored what we saw in his very limited action in the preseason, and that was he's going to make some mistakes here in his rookie year, but he's also going to punish people.
• 34:06
[SPEAKER_00]: He's also going to move people, and he's going to have these, like, whether they can't count as a pancake or not.
• 34:11
[SPEAKER_00]: He just wears on you, man.
• 34:13
[SPEAKER_00]: He just wears on you.
• 34:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got to do a better job with his blocks sustain at the NFL level.
• 34:19
[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't see that college, big, strong hands, great hand placement.
• 34:23
[SPEAKER_00]: And he had last one, and guys just weren't able to go anywhere, want him.
• 34:27
[SPEAKER_00]: He's been losing a little too much of blocks sustain for me.
• 34:30
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that these are rookie growing pains.
• 34:33
[SPEAKER_00]: And what you got to him to do, you were seeing him be able to do it on the NFL field.
• 34:38
[SPEAKER_00]: He just has to clean some things up.
• 34:41
[SPEAKER_01]: It really, some really positive things to look at.
• 34:43
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's focus on the positive for Johanna because I think this game has a really, a lot of positive portent that comes with it.
• 34:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So you only miss two blocks in the game as I counted it plus one other pressure that's not in the two miss blocks and then the two holding calls, which we'll get to in a moment, obviously, are quite serious from a grading perspective.
• 35:01
[SPEAKER_01]: But what I's really impressed about not only the power and the pad lovely plays with,
• 35:11
[SPEAKER_01]: But he also was very good at the right-guard skill, the right-guard specific skill of turning a defensive tackle to his will.
• 35:22
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's able to reposition his feet and kind of pivot his way through, kind of open the front gate on a power play if need be.
• 35:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, this offense may not ask him to do that all that much, but zone play has tons of that involved in it.
• 35:34
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're creating a cutback lane, you could figure out where it's going to be, and you want to...
• 35:37
[SPEAKER_01]: basically show the best thing you can and present it to that running back, you know, oftentimes, you know, you kind of figure out where that that that opening is just a here before the running back does or maybe at the same time, but you're a few yards ahead of them.
• 35:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And you turn your guy to basically make it easier from the follow that block and I think you want to be very good at that.
• 35:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see him finish blocks more.
• 35:59
[SPEAKER_01]: So you say blocks are staying sure I want to say him stay on the block.
• 36:02
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see him take the guy to the ground, get him angry with him, get him upset for the next play.
• 36:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that kind of thing.
• 36:10
[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll see that from him if this college tape is any pret, you know, I feel like he's still rookie kind of like feeling his way out, but that's part of his makeup.
• 36:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, got a little more on him.
• 36:20
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got three level twos, two pancakes, one out of one on his poles.
• 36:23
[SPEAKER_01]: He did have one highlight block, two two holding penalties.
• 36:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there's no denying the impact of these holding penalties.
• 36:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And the second one, I think it was the second one, came when he's really beat by out of worry to the left to his left to do, you want his left.
• 36:38
  [SPEAKER_01]: Um, that's, that's not a penalty.
• 36:40
[SPEAKER_01]: You can hand wave away at all.
• 36:41
[SPEAKER_01]: He, he had a stupid, hold and penalty in level two, where he held the jersey and it wasn't even a factual at all in terms of impacting the run play.
• 36:49
[SPEAKER_01]: But, um, the things he's got to learn to do better to do right and, and it starts with not getting beat, um, on the, on the, on the out-up worry play.
• 36:57
[SPEAKER_01]: So while I, you know, I understand people's desire to say, well, no, he had a great game, you can't.
• 37:02
[SPEAKER_01]: You can't let him not recover from those two pennies.
• 37:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the two pennies were enormous.
• 37:06
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, one of them stole the drive.
• 37:08
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, they are very significant.
• 37:11
[SPEAKER_01]: They're one of the major variances, the major elements of variance that the defense is presented with and can use to get off the field.
• 37:19
[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got to be very careful about these things.
• 37:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, you want a C for the game, he would have had an A had it not been for those two flags.
• 37:28
[SPEAKER_01]: So that doesn't mean he really deserved an A.
• 37:30
[SPEAKER_01]: That means he would have had an A had he not made these two very serious errors.
• 37:34
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I agree it and I mean, especially the adaboree one, I mean, that's bad loss terrible terrible loss, whether he holds or where they get the holding penalty or whether he gets the more hit or whether he just blows up the play.
• 37:48
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the kind of losses that you want to avoid is the opposite of the slow burn, the slow death type loss.
• 37:54
  [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
• 37:54
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
• 37:54
  [SPEAKER_00]: And he's been like, I think that he's
• 37:58
[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a little, it almost looks like he's guessing, and I know he's not, but he's just been a little bit I think like eager to prove himself maybe it is, but once some of these things, I think that he gets a little to ahead of himself will be the best way to put it, the losses that I've seen through the preseason and in his first game.
• 38:17
[SPEAKER_00]: But overall, I think that Ravens fans should be
• 38:20
[SPEAKER_00]: encouraged about what they see from Venga, you want to because you see the good, you see the reasons that you drafted them and you expect these these technical issues in the butterflies or whatever it may be to to get cleaned up as the season in this career progresses.
• 38:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, it's sort of the hope so.
• 38:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And we've seen that in a lot of alignment before making the first action, like Matt Skura and Colone and guys like that of that area who kind of, you know, margin alignment, they tend to have a, there a lot of their holding cleanies early on and there is a hump you get over where you can learn that.
• 38:50
[SPEAKER_01]: So a very positive on Veggie one.
• 38:53
  [SPEAKER_01]: I'm probably 10% more positive.
• 38:57
[SPEAKER_01]: on where I feel like you'll end up this year with just because of this game.
• 39:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I really think there's a lot of positive portent to take from it.
• 39:06
[SPEAKER_01]: They have to be cleaned up.
• 39:08
[SPEAKER_01]: But honestly, if you were to play at this level for the whole year,
• 39:12
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a sea level, it wouldn't be terrible or even a rookie first round pick.
• 39:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously the most recent one that Raven's had of the same of a similar ilk was Linda Baum and he basically played just sea level in his rookie year and there was significant growth from there.
• 39:27
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think you want to be a very, very good player from what I could see from this first.
• 39:33
[SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna, like, he's gonna have games where he doesn't have these mistakes or maybe only has one or they're not as costly.
• 39:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm confident just that he's going to be able to impose his will a big time on certain plays because you just see that every game I've seen and play, it's just like, oh, wow, this is why you drafted him that that play right there.
• 39:52
[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen it multiple times, you know, in each game he's played so far, you know, it's very small sample, but it just leads me to believe that he is going to
• 40:01
[SPEAKER_00]: They impose himself on the games and if he just, you know, he's going to have games where the mistakes aren't there, the penalties aren't there, and he's probably going to grade out higher than to see when the, when the season's over, see plus, you know, be when the season's all done.
• 40:27
  [SPEAKER_01]: already people.
• 40:27
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're thinking the back up left back up quarter back is the most popular guy in town.
• 40:32
[SPEAKER_01]: The back up left tackle can be the second most popular guy in town.
• 40:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: Take your time.
• 40:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: Calm down guys.
• 40:36
  [SPEAKER_01]: Calm down guys.
• 40:38
[SPEAKER_01]: They can't they can't make that move not for a good long time.
• 40:41
[SPEAKER_01]: The half of season more.
• 40:42
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just thinking that they can't really make a move away from win.
• 40:45
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have another option that's healthy right now.
• 40:47
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're going to have to let, you know, they're going to have to ride with win for some period of time.
• 40:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And if they if they
• 40:53
[SPEAKER_01]: would come, you know, fight out after two or three games and they just can't live with what Gwen is doing.
• 40:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it's probably that it's not zero, but hopefully, you know, Gwen is going to improve.
• 41:02
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to have to go to the street to find another center.
• 41:05
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to be able to necessarily have postsick be the guy right away.
• 41:08
[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to get the picture in the Dearing, antlers spray.
• 41:11
  [SPEAKER_01]: For next year, sure.
• 41:13
  [SPEAKER_01]: We'll take a break here.
• 41:14
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back to talk about some of the individual players.
• 41:19
  [SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're back.
• 41:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Jason, we've had a lot of films with me.
• 41:22
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about some individual performance and so on the offensive side, Jason.
• 41:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: You're the guest.
• 41:26
[SPEAKER_01]: You know how this works.
• 41:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Who would you like to talk about?
• 41:29
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk about Legente, Western, first and foremost.
• 41:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to be utilized more than people realize with Zay presumably, Miss and a week or two.
• 41:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm hoping we don't see Zay on the field.
• 41:45
[SPEAKER_00]: On Sunday and that doesn't mean that I don't hope he could play if he, you know, I hope Zay can play on Sunday, but they're just decided to give him another week and, you know, the Skatback, what we're seeing from Western as a receiver, I think during the preseason kind of gives me hope that yeah, he's not going to pull a heavy heavy load because he is your returner as well, but that he can give this Ravens offense and element of quickness with Zay flour safe Zay misses at least a couple of games.
• 42:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm with you on that.
• 42:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, one of the real indications that Doyle is serious about using him is that they put him in in the offset fullback kind of position.
• 42:25
[SPEAKER_01]: They put say flowers in in the second half.
• 42:28
[SPEAKER_01]: So right there, you're saying, okay, you're going into Z-roll.
• 42:30
  [SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
• 42:31
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know that Lamar Jackson is going to throw to him in the same way.
• 42:35
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know that, you know, he could do some of the things he needs to do to separate in the way that they would.
• 42:41
[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact that you're offensive coordinator is saying, go ahead and try and see what you could do to separate from, you know, get a free, really self-delighted screen image and see if you can make space from that spot.
• 42:50
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a really good sign to start with.
• 42:52
  [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I can't.
• 42:52
  [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think about that.
• 42:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's a great point because during the week, they're basically, that shows me that they're telling Western, you're next man up at this spot.
• 43:01
[SPEAKER_00]: learns A-flowers as responsibilities on these plays, and we're going to, you know, if I want to line Z-flowers up in the back field and he's hurt, then you're going to be the one lined up in the back field.
• 43:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's a great observation.
• 43:13
  [SPEAKER_01]: cool.
• 43:15
[SPEAKER_01]: What else did I guess I'm good with that comment on Western.
• 43:20
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll move it on to Mark Andrews.
• 43:22
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's things that Mark Andrews is still contributing in in in in a big way.
• 43:26
[SPEAKER_01]: He had a couple catches in this game, but he had a big drop early that looked terrible.
• 43:32
[SPEAKER_01]: He had a fall start early that that was, you know, obviously a very very costly position for a fall start when they were on the two yard line I think, right?
• 43:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, the overcame it and they got the ball in the end zone, but that's not a good place to start.
• 43:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And the bad, you know, it's bad to drop as you can see.
• 43:51
[SPEAKER_01]: But then he kind of recovered in some significant ways.
• 43:54
[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought the biggest thing that I was impressed at him with was making the block for flowers, getting running to the spot to make the block for flowers on the, I think it was the 54 and not the 49.
• 44:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: But,
• 44:06
[SPEAKER_01]: He came back and he walked back towards the line of Scrimmage basically, which means he can't really block in the way you want him to, because that's not allowed, but he's allowed to kind of obstruct from that position and he's allowed to put his hands on the other guy, just can't push hard, it push on it really.
• 44:22
[SPEAKER_01]: We won't get cold anyway if he doesn't push.
• 44:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Jacobi Lain was ahead of him and he did a pretty good job of staying on his block in the way you want to receive or to keep his feet while he's blocking.
• 44:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Ended up being a really big play, but the big block was Mark Andrews on that, because that was the one that maybe the 1520 yard line to spring him for a fair amount of additional yards.
• 44:42
[SPEAKER_00]: He also had a block, which was a decent effort on the Lamar 3rd and 16 Miracle Place variable.
• 44:50
[SPEAKER_00]: He was the guy by the sideline that kind of sealed the sideline off to allow the Lamar to get to the sideline.
• 44:56
[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, look, I think that just from a personal standpoint, I feel like I'm a little bit lower on Andrews than
• 45:05
[SPEAKER_00]: And then most others, I just think that it's the father time, it's the lack of explosiveness.
• 45:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look at the first play of the game and he's being covered in past years.
• 45:15
[SPEAKER_00]: He would have had a step, maybe the Mark Oestholm.
• 45:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of think that this by the end of the year might be the type of scenario where he has 400 and some yards in heaven or has 400 and some yards.
• 45:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, we did a prediction show, Coach and I.
• 45:32
[SPEAKER_00]: not actually tell Kibner over barc Andrews for most yards.
• 45:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because the explosive place, the explosive place, like I can see, Hibner going for a 30 yard 40 yard play, and I can't see Mark doing that unless it's,
• 45:46
[SPEAKER_00]: a complete flookie bust of a play.
• 45:49
[SPEAKER_00]: So I expect Mark Andrews to be involved.
• 45:51
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a bolder prediction can try to spice it up.
• 45:54
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly what you're doing.
• 45:55
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going through the math in my head.
• 45:57
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you could replicate that synthetically by taking both sides of that argument with lines that are available out of the public.
• 46:03
  [SPEAKER_01]: And you could probably...
• 46:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: guaranteed yourself.
• 46:04
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thinking it's going to be closed.
• 46:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be closed.
• 46:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Mark Andrew is going to have more targets.
• 46:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Hitler is going to have more yards per target.
• 46:13
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Mark, for the breaking tackles, I just don't see.
• 46:17
  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't see the explosiveness.
• 46:19
[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to be able to catch the ball.
• 46:20
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's the main thing.
• 46:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Just get open like you always do in versus zone and catch the ball.
• 46:26
[SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to need Mark over the season, especially over
• 46:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, because there's a real chemistry, obviously, between him and Lamar.
• 46:35
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely, and that's a, that's a good one.
• 46:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So I forgot who brought the I bring up Andrews here.
• 46:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: I think I did.
• 46:43
[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, how about Jacobi Lane in this law?
• 46:46
[SPEAKER_00]: So I see, you know, this name there, I really think that he was set for a big role in this offense.
• 46:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was any secret.
• 46:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was just preseason hype.
• 46:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you were out there looking at the practices, but
• 46:59
[SPEAKER_00]: the way they treated him in the preseason and sitting out that last game and being a street close after half time in the first step.
• 47:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Two games I believe, you know, his presence.
• 47:09
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think it was all outside the numbers, fade balls, deep balls, you know, go balls.
• 47:13
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they were going to use him on these levels concepts, these flood type routes as a big body in the middle and level two.
• 47:21
  [SPEAKER_00]: And
• 47:22
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it just really, I get for a lack of a better word sucks that he's going to be out for, you know, hopefully it's only about a month, five weeks, hopefully it's a, you know, four or five week type thing and not like a six to eight week type thing because we're better team, I think, with having Jacobi Lane as an option, which is a real credit to him as a rookie, and you know, someone who hasn't even played a full game yet.
• 47:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just in this game, we saw him be the target of a laser throw from Lamar in the end zone for the touchdown.
• 47:53
[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, no, we do not are not going to throw the fade.
• 47:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, if they do throw the fade, they're going to do it one on one coverage outside the numbers, somewhere in the middle of the field, they need the balls going to be thrown at the 40 of the 30 yard line kind of thing.
• 48:06
[SPEAKER_01]: to try and take advantage of Lane's ability to out-jump a single defender.
• 48:11
[SPEAKER_01]: So they might try that, but they're not going to try the fade from the five yard line or the ten yard line.
• 48:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's just not Lamar's game.
• 48:17
[SPEAKER_01]: Lamar moves horizontally and finds the direct throw to make.
• 48:21
[SPEAKER_01]: As part of, you know, the greatness of Lamar Jackson, when we first came into the league, he didn't give him an exception forever.
• 48:29
[SPEAKER_01]: under those, into those circumstances, until they gave up the one to, to Ron Manning through it, who's the guy's to run Johnson.
• 48:36
[SPEAKER_00]: John Johnson, Andy, you know, you also have Derek Henry, you have Derek Henry, you have Lamar Jackson, so if you consider a fade ball of 50, 50 ball proposition, you've got much better fit than 50, 50 chances, 50, 50 chance, if you just let Lamar do his thing and have angry at his disposal.
• 48:53
[SPEAKER_01]: with the entirely, and the replacement for the fade ball is kind of a tall ball to Andrews and Lane definitely can be a part of that, in terms of making a catch show.
• 49:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Andrews did it years ago.
• 49:09
[SPEAKER_01]: We had, I mean, likely, a certainly done up.
• 49:11
[SPEAKER_01]: But years ago, Alan Kornboldman would be a guy who did it during the Super Bowl run.
• 49:15
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's no reason why Jacobi Lane can't be one of those weapons
• 49:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not going to miss him, can though.
• 49:26
[SPEAKER_00]: I was really excited to see how he opened things up for others.
• 49:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe I go to a different player who has to step up in his absence, and that's, I think, has Walker.
• 49:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Walker definitely took a step back.
• 49:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, from a psychological standpoint, how Walker's head is right now.
• 49:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, he dealt with an injury, so that doesn't have anything to do with his head.
• 49:46
[SPEAKER_01]: But the last route of the preseason, he didn't run it out
• 49:53
[SPEAKER_01]: For the first time this summer, and I mean, in camp or in the games, being overthrown on a deep rap.
• 50:01
[SPEAKER_01]: So he put the ball up right way down the side.
• 50:03
[SPEAKER_01]: If I don't know, I was a quarterback through it down the right sideline.
• 50:06
[SPEAKER_01]: And he overthrew him literally by a foot after he had stopped his route and then restarted in the middle.
• 50:11
[SPEAKER_01]: So you know, he's lost at least a yard and a half or more doing that.
• 50:15
[SPEAKER_01]: He would have run right under the football.
• 50:16
[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been a problem at all for him.
• 50:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And for the I know obviously at a reaction to it and then you went to the side line so I have set midter was up with it.
• 50:25
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's got to come back.
• 50:27
[SPEAKER_00]: I got to, I want to ask you maybe offline another time about what you think of the record with that and kind of get you to expand on that because it's tough for for Devontas because, you know, quite frankly, if you're Devontas at least, you think you were under utilized last year.
• 50:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what the hell do I got to do every time I'm in the game, I'm making first downs, touch downs.
• 50:50
[SPEAKER_00]: and I can't get no play under on your top munken.
• 50:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I've been drafted to receivers.
• 50:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I've got two receivers and one of the guys are drafting sitting on the sideline that last preseason game while you're in there, risk an injury on Boston, your home.
• 51:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I mean, I did see some, you know, we don't get to see a lot, but there are clips released from preseason, where you see taz burning at the second level, turning the corner, turning it up.
• 51:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: and doing his thing.
• 51:15
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I do believe that Tesla Walker can play an important role in this offense, especially in Jacobi Lane's absence, where he can be a big slot.
• 51:25
[SPEAKER_00]: It's used me and again talking about the flood, the flood plays, the levels concepts where you can be a bigger target over the middle and not just the downfield guy.
• 51:33
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to have like the sharpest cuts to run a flood route.
• 51:37
[SPEAKER_00]: You just got to be able to find space, catch the ball and try to get extra yard.
• 51:41
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really rooting for Tess.
• 51:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could bring a different element and hopefully like mentally he resets and realize, look, this is my
• 51:49
  [SPEAKER_00]: This is my chance.
• 51:50
[SPEAKER_00]: This is my chance right here.
• 51:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a better special team player or more trusted on special teams than say, maybe a serrat, so maybe I can get my chance on game days to get active and really make an impact on the offense.
• 52:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he's got to be active now, obviously with their wide receiver situation.
• 52:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And it all summer, he was underthrowed on deep balls.
• 52:12
[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the nature of it.
• 52:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And they kept cornerbacks coming back into the play.
• 52:16
[SPEAKER_01]: He was carrying around that frustration and his shoulders after these plays, at least my observation of it.
• 52:22
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm, he's got every hope that he could get some deep ball opportunities out of the offense as it's currently constituted, not only that it should get lots of snap opportunities, needs to every element of his game, he needs to do it at a higher level.
• 52:38
  [SPEAKER_01]: So 10.
• 52:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm wondering how healthy he is.
• 52:40
[SPEAKER_00]: They show the, you know, the clips from practice, oh, it has his back practice and you get like a little 10 second clip.
• 52:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was just straight line stuff, but growing injury isn't nothing to mess around with either.
• 52:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Like can he can he like sustain contact can you know what I mean?
• 52:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Where there's he's putting all his force against another man in whatever kind of situation and an awkward angle to where he's growing, you know,
• 53:05
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... it's a fair question indeed and i i don't i don't have the pretty any special information on that i mean is what what i tell you so it's that's what you want to ask me offline i've got nothing to to uh... uh... give you honestly and uh...
• 53:18
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, honestly, I don't even like to speculate on injuries in any way, shape or form.
• 53:23
[SPEAKER_01]: I do have a general idea of how I'd like them to be managed, but in terms of what information is given out, I hope Jesse went through just keeps his mouth shut a little bit of the child harbour at the end, because John really gave one sided information, which is what got him into trouble.
• 53:38
[SPEAKER_01]: when he didn't give you information about a player who really was hurt.
• 53:42
[SPEAKER_01]: It you've already knew because he was willing to get to all, you know, good news occasionally at the reporters that if he didn't have anything to say automatically met bad news.
• 53:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: So, right.
• 53:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Just need to shut the hell off.
• 53:52
  [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, pretty much.
• 53:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I want further record.
• 53:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't asking if you knew anything on Tesla.
• 53:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I was just saying that, like, even if you told me, hey, he's good.
• 54:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't believe...
• 54:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I just tend to be skeptical, you know, because it's really up to the player and, you know, the player could feel good and it's, and be cleared, quote unquote, but it only takes one thing to reactivate it.
• 54:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, I, you know, the next player I would like to talk about is Chris Moore's just staying on the receivers.
• 54:18
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mentioned, I believe it way back in the first show, but, you know, if I'm taking all the Ravens receivers,
• 54:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me, and they're all healthy.
• 54:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's live in this fantasy world where it's week 18.
• 54:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And we have all six of our guys, of course, Chris Moore, it's not disposal.
• 54:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Moore, I think, needs to be active one game day in part of the 53, just because of how he supplements this team with his special teams, his kick return, his toughness, his veteran nature, doing everything in the right way, the pro way.
• 54:48
[SPEAKER_00]: So it just didn't take me very long.
• 54:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, once Chris Moore was in the game before Bateman
• 54:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Damn, and you know what, we could use a Chris Moron this team.
• 54:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it just, he fits like a glove.
• 55:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I just wanted to give him his credit and, you know, just say that I was saying this in the middle of the game before the injuries came where it was like, Chris Morr stuck out to me as a true fit.
• 55:12
  [SPEAKER_01]: Good player.
• 55:12
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
• 55:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't a complete shock that he came back.
• 55:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I had guess that it would be a practice squad arrangement.
• 55:21
[SPEAKER_01]: No way in a hack that I expect that he'd be up.
• 55:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And even now, I mean, I don't know why you don't just elevate him twice more before you bring him on, but it may be that another team is contacting him already.
• 55:32
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that some of the team has said, yeah, hey, we'd love to have you on our roster here in Arizona.
• 55:38
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to, you know, come out here and we'll, we'll elevate you right now and then more went to the Ravens and said, hey, look, Arizona is offering me a 53 spot.
• 55:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to elevate me now with the injuries kind of thing and I certainly don't want to move kind of thing.
• 55:51
[SPEAKER_01]: I could it could well be that's that's going on and that is by the way the typical procedure.
• 55:55
[SPEAKER_01]: If the guy likes his current situation Lexus team, you know, like more is playing for a winner here.
• 56:01
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it would be unusual for him not to ask his current team.
• 56:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I've got an offer, you know, here.
• 56:07
[SPEAKER_01]: You want to match it.
• 56:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Just like any time you you you change jobs.
• 56:11
[SPEAKER_01]: You want to hear what your current employer has in terms of a cat or offer if you think it's even possible.
• 56:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: It could be good.
• 56:20
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's jump into the mail bag here because we got to actually let's do the MVP's first because that's more important.
• 56:25
[SPEAKER_01]: We definitely have to get that done.
• 56:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: It will go 3, 2, 1 on the MVP's.
• 56:28
  [SPEAKER_01]: You're the guest.
• 56:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Start us off with number three.
• 56:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we have this room ahead of the same three guys.
• 56:35
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be hard to do the same three guys.
• 56:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just the number three.
• 56:39
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'll just go Zay.
• 56:40
[SPEAKER_00]: He was the best player on the field, but he was on the on the field for 20 snaps.
• 56:44
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'll put him.
• 56:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll put him third buddy.
• 56:46
[SPEAKER_00]: There's argument for number one for all these all three.
• 56:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I would agree with that.
• 56:49
[SPEAKER_01]: There's an argument for anyone for any of these guys, but say was remarkable.
• 56:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Had 7.5 yards per snap play, not per reception, not per target, not per route run, per snap play.
• 57:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you only ran 11 routes and got 150 yards, I mean, that's 13.64.
• 57:08
[SPEAKER_01]: yards per route run, and just to put that number in context, because yards per route run is not something people follow normally.
• 57:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Pook and Aku will lead the entire NFL last year with 3.57 yards per route run.
• 57:20
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's crazy.
• 57:21
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy number, and I know there's a lot of,
• 57:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I honestly I watched that first half and I thought I could I could maybe buy into the 1400 yard thing that I've been hearing now, and then of course you got hurt, and then out here.
• 57:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So, my number three guys, Derek Henry, great game for Derek, and it doesn't really matter how you slice it, but you ran into times when they knew it was coming and he still did very well.
• 57:46
[SPEAKER_01]: He had some nice long explosive runs.
• 57:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they did a good job of creating lanes for him in the.
• 57:53
[SPEAKER_01]: zone system that afforded him good cutback opportunities that he took advantage of.
• 57:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Positive game, just from multiple things, love to see him use as a receiver.
• 58:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, I just have a hard time believing that I've always, I've always thought this, but like, okay, there can be, I have a think we've all seen at his catch radius is about nil.
• 58:14
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just, he's just very thick and stiff, you know, so if you throw him one about it, he doesn't have the agility above his head say to reach or low to the ground.
• 58:23
  [SPEAKER_00]: We've seen a few times.
• 58:25
[SPEAKER_00]: But you want a screen pass.
• 58:26
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to be raining moss.
• 58:29
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
• 58:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Just hit them in the chest.
• 58:30
  [SPEAKER_00]: What a screen pass.
• 58:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Let him get out to some of these DBs and let them cause havoc because these guys don't want to touch them.
• 58:37
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Derek, all right, I'll go with you.
• 58:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll put them as my number two, but um.
• 58:43
[SPEAKER_00]: great game defeating father time all that all that other stuff and you just really see what kind of a pro runner he has with his pace as well so you know if his if his speed goes down a little bit or if his physicality and miraculously goes down a little bit he's very well timed in his runs what you appreciate.
• 59:11
  [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man.
• 59:12
  [SPEAKER_01]: I almost had a perfect show.
• 59:13
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like pitching a perfect game for me not to be on mute for an entire episode.
• 59:16
  [SPEAKER_00]: You know, thanks.
• 59:18
  [SPEAKER_00]: They were talking about.
• 59:20
  [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're multiple things.
• 59:21
[SPEAKER_01]: This is like the whole Stanley Simpson situation on the chop block penalty because if you if you saw us here Jason is working with a green screen here So so I can't see his face in this particular episode and normally I'm asking the guests to point to their earpiece, you know, or point to their headset to give you the mute new symbol, but damn.
• 59:39
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay
• 59:40
[SPEAKER_01]: a little behind the curtain of eyes thing here is that you guys all know I'm viewed all the time but but it happened again anyway.
• 59:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Well damn can I ruin your number number one drum roll please.
• 59:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay there's a drum roll go ahead.
• 59:54
  [SPEAKER_01]: You have a twist.
• 59:55
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a drum roll block by the word Jackson Lamar Jackson Lamar Jackson.
• 59:59
[SPEAKER_01]: There is a drum roll button on screen right.
• 1:00:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's like sounds or noises or stuff.
• 1:00:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: Check that out here.
• 1:00:04
[SPEAKER_00]: They have clap, audience, claps, and all that stuff.
• 1:00:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: Ah, okay.
• 1:00:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to look at this.
• 1:00:09
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, Lamar Jackson, at 5.4 yards, better than his opportunity set, unbelievable, the, the, the, the, um,
• 1:00:17
[SPEAKER_01]: 16 yard run goes on the Lamar Jackson career high roll.
• 1:00:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Highlight roll and that's, it's incredible that there 35 other plays probably like it in his nine-year career, but it was special.
• 1:00:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have to make that Lamar Highlight roll.
• 1:00:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's really not much to add.
• 1:00:39
[SPEAKER_00]: There was footwork as efficiency.
• 1:00:41
[SPEAKER_00]: You see the field beautifully.
• 1:00:43
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just, there's throws across.
• 1:00:46
[SPEAKER_00]: You talk about being able to boot leg left and make a throw like.
• 1:00:50
[SPEAKER_00]: The Mars, one of those guys.
• 1:00:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I would say him and my homes are the masters above anybody else of just the arm angles and all platforms stuff.
• 1:00:59
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just amazing.
• 1:01:01
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't believe the man never played baseball and, you know, when he threw out the first picture Kim in the yards, he said it was the first time really had thrown a baseball and he practiced it in the tunnel beforehand.
• 1:01:10
[SPEAKER_00]: But you would think that he grew up playing like shortstop or second throwing across his body as well.
• 1:01:15
[SPEAKER_00]: because he's just so good at it with a football, too, and then footballs are bigger than people think.
• 1:01:20
[SPEAKER_00]: And then a football is pretty big.
• 1:01:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's true.
• 1:01:23
[SPEAKER_01]: They, you know, kids start playing with smaller balls because one of the things you find when you first play with a bigger ball is it's hard to get your arm or and around it and have the kind of control over it.
• 1:01:32
[SPEAKER_01]: You really have to have to appreciate the guys who could spin a ball the way that NFL quarterbacks can.
• 1:01:40
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I got one mailbag question I want to make sure we get to here.
• 1:01:43
[SPEAKER_01]: This is from Zev Moses.
• 1:01:44
[SPEAKER_01]: He says, hi, Kenna Moray, and question for the mailbag or offensive review podcast.
• 1:01:48
[SPEAKER_01]: Can you speak to some of the offensive possibilities and impacts on opposing defenses with Zay lining up in the backfield?
• 1:01:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe he did it twice.
• 1:01:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe you are correct.
• 1:01:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And this concept is this concept becoming more of a league trend.
• 1:02:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not aware of that, are you?
• 1:02:02
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I haven't seen it become a league trend.
• 1:02:05
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's more for the backs like Christian McAfrey, Jamir Gibbs, where you're asking them basically to run Texas Routs, Angle Routs, which is basically a triangle, like at the triangle, whatever, two thirds of a triangle.
• 1:02:19
[SPEAKER_00]: where they come out, you know, 45 degree angles to the left or right and then cut 45 degree angles the other way.
• 1:02:26
[SPEAKER_00]: That's your Texas route or your angle route.
• 1:02:28
[SPEAKER_00]: What we saw would say look like an option route where he could have went to the flat where he could have went over the middle depending on where the defenders were.
• 1:02:36
[SPEAKER_00]: And in that case, the strong safety AJ Halsey ran right past today to the flat for some unknown reasons.
• 1:02:43
[SPEAKER_00]: So they just basically kept going without the foot all the way on the pedal to give Lamar an easy target and idea where he was.
• 1:02:50
[SPEAKER_00]: and the rest is history, but you mentioned we saw it with Wester as well.
• 1:02:54
[SPEAKER_00]: So this might be a, you know, a couple of snaps of game, we'll see this from Declan Doyle, depending on the opponent.
• 1:03:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think really, when you look at it from a strategic standpoint, bad linebackers on the other team, that's when we want to use it.
• 1:03:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's there's that I agree.
• 1:03:09
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there might be an opportunity here for this to be a significant element of deception.
• 1:03:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Because we always want to talk about Zay getting down the field to drag safety's out of position or to to to get them to try and jump routes on him.
• 1:03:22
[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of times it's the only thing the safety can do is help on a route where Zay has done one of his 90 degree left turns or right turns.
• 1:03:33
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that might be the best thing a safety can do.
• 1:03:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I would think if I'm the safety on Z-flowers half of the field in a cover 2 or even a any kind of coverage where they're starting from cover 2 even, my intent or immediately up if I see Z-flowers lined up up the back field, I'm scared to death if I'm the corner back at the line of scrimmage trying to figure out how to cover that.
• 1:03:53
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I don't want to get beat deep.
• 1:03:54
  [SPEAKER_01]: I know I probably can't press him.
• 1:03:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I probably cannot move quickly enough to get my hands on him at the light of scrimmage, but I want help over the top.
• 1:04:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's safety knows it too.
• 1:04:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And that might be a way to get the safety out of the play without even getting, you know, running a vertical route.
• 1:04:09
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have the opportunity to run all kinds of tight end tricks where you're kind of angling across the field from the opposite side to get behind that safety.
• 1:04:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think problem that I've been it's problematic.
• 1:04:20
[SPEAKER_00]: You know you do worry at least I do of course is worry worth of him running over the middle like that in that particular area of the field at that angle you know just getting crunched old school stop.
• 1:04:32
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean it's problematic and again we saw it
• 1:04:37
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe that's a plan of attack against, you know, maybe an inexperienced strong safety and experienced linebackers aggressive linebackers something like that.
• 1:04:46
[SPEAKER_01]: So Zev had a second part of this question said Dickens Doyle's Creativity of Formations was very impactful, I counted two touchdowns with eight typical alignments, the ZADD, which we were talking about in this offset full back kind of alignment he was in.
• 1:04:58
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Lamar Rush TD, and that was where we mentioned earlier was the unbalanced line to the right.
• 1:05:02
[SPEAKER_01]: So he absolutely correct in both cases, good job, but the films have appreciated your man for submitting this.
• 1:05:08
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you're right, I think they build off this and do more with it.
• 1:05:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Probably, probably one of the best questions.
• 1:05:17
[SPEAKER_01]: It was also a very tourist question, but great point that Zev makes a pre-shoot your man.
• 1:05:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I like that Zev, and I just wanted to add the very beginning of the show.
• 1:05:27
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say that this was the first
• 1:05:29
[SPEAKER_00]: I think a talking point that Ken and I discussed was, you know, the Deckland oil offense with the DC did you like it and that's what I loved about it is that he was, there was a great Roman element.
• 1:05:43
[SPEAKER_00]: We had an on-balance line out of the pistol for Lamar using a designed run.
• 1:05:47
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I kind of thought that the days of Lamar design runs were it was just going to use them every once in a while, the games on the line type thing.
• 1:05:54
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it was the first quarter from like the who is the Ken 7 or eight hour line something like that after the Andrews.
• 1:05:59
  [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
• 1:06:00
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, it wasn't like a crucial time.
• 1:06:02
[SPEAKER_00]: We just decided to go on balance pistol.
• 1:06:05
[SPEAKER_00]: We saw some Sean Peyton elements in the past game.
• 1:06:07
[SPEAKER_00]: We saw some a lot of Ben Johnson in the run game.
• 1:06:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: We saw some creativity.
• 1:06:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So love what I saw from Declan Doyle and
• 1:06:14
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, again, if you're just listening now, that's something that can tonight discuss, I believe, you know, the very first five minutes of the first show.
• 1:06:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Good job, a selling that first show, too, because the be a few listeners by this point naturally in any podcast or anybody who's doing it, but that that first show was was a great listen.
• 1:06:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: And, and.
• 1:06:30
[SPEAKER_01]: I love talking football with Jason and as probably even more in the first show because we've got into the offensive line in this and we're getting fairly specific and technical, but in the first part, you know, we're talking about conceptual football and we get some great back and forth on that and just absolutely appreciate you so much Jason, thanks for spending the time with me, you know, tonight we spent, you know, two hours and 15 or 20 minutes here talking about the Raven's offense from this game, but man, what a labor.
• 1:06:56
  [SPEAKER_01]: I love this week.
• 1:06:58
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I appreciate you very much.
• 1:06:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be very busy with film study.
• 1:07:01
[SPEAKER_00]: I have show now Wednesday at nine is my regular show, Introducing the Preview Show with Coach.
• 1:07:08
[SPEAKER_00]: We've done really well with that.
• 1:07:10
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of listeners, a lot of people watch one replay.
• 1:07:13
[SPEAKER_00]: And I would just suggest, like, I would just say this.
• 1:07:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I've told my friends, other content creators, and people like that, I'm like, look, you should really watch this show.
• 1:07:23
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying this because I want your view.
• 1:07:26
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a really good show as I'm really proud of what Coach DC and I are pointing out.
• 1:07:31
[SPEAKER_00]: We make a good team.
• 1:07:32
[SPEAKER_00]: He looks at things from a coaching perspective, as well as anybody.
• 1:07:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Mine's more of a scouting and the other teams and the strengths and weaknesses and put together a lot of graphics and a lot of effort into that show.
• 1:07:46
[SPEAKER_00]: Between Friday night at nine and Sunday at one or whenever the game time is,
• 1:07:51
[SPEAKER_00]: go to a little bit of films and check out a game preview show.
• 1:07:54
[SPEAKER_00]: We did excellent with our calls last weekend like the predictions and if this happens, that happens.
• 1:07:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking forward to working with Coach DC all season on that.
• 1:08:02
[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be my plug at the end of the show.
• 1:08:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: Good job, man.
• 1:08:05
[SPEAKER_01]: I highly recommend both of these guys as content creators, but certainly if they're doing a show together, it's going to be worthwhile listen.
• 1:08:11
[SPEAKER_01]: So you guys give it a check it out for sure.
• 1:08:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Other folks out there, thanks so much for listening.
• 1:08:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: Filmstudymeabag.com, I'm sorry.
• 1:08:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: Filmstudymeabag.gmail.com with your questions.
• 1:08:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Moreen will get the directed to the proper show.
• 1:08:23
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to write us a five star 50 word review, please go out there and do that.
• 1:08:27
[SPEAKER_01]: If you just want to tell one new person about the show, I'm all about the word of mouth advertising.
• 1:08:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Jason, thanks again for coming on.
• 1:08:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Ken.
