- 0:14Amber Kuhn: Hello TPR nation. This is Amber Kuhn. Thank you
- 0:16for joining me on today's Follow up Friday, where I'll be
- 0:20recapping this week's episode highlights an actions items. On
- 0:23Monday, Matt was joined by Danny Lohrfink, the co founder of
- 0:27wealth.com which is an estate planning tool to help clients
- 0:30get their estate documents done. Danny shared how they don't
- 0:34spend a lot of money on marketing. Instead, they focus
- 0:37on a brown game approach and word of mouth. He said they like
- 0:41to meet people and marry their technology with a white glove
- 0:44and personal touch. Matt brought up one of the biggest questions
- 0:48that comes from advisors when they're talking about estate
- 0:51documents with their client, and where's the line being crossed
- 0:55to legal advice? Danny said that an advisor's role is to think
- 0:59about their clients holistic wealth picture, and that an
- 1:02estate plan is a book into any good financial plan. So with
- 1:05legacy planning, he said, You need to be talking to your
- 1:09clients about their goals, objectives and concerns.
- 1:12Wealth.com puts advisors in that quarterback position to be able
- 1:15to have those meaningful conversations with clients, and
- 1:19then they take the responses and the liability to translate it to
- 1:22a legal function, and they provide the optimal way to
- 1:25implement it. He said advisors need to understand the line and
- 1:29where they can't cross, such as drawing up legal documents or
- 1:33even going into wealth.com and typing things in for your
- 1:36clients. He said there's no room within the advisor community to
- 1:40go outside the bounds. Nothing shared that after talking with
- 1:43an Eno provider at conferences, how they talked about that you
- 1:47can be liable for not advising on taxes and estate planning so
- 1:51advisors can't just turn a blind eye to helping their clients in
- 1:54these areas, he pointed out that there are still issues outside
- 1:58of the ultra high net worth clients that every one of Your
- 2:01clients and their family members needs a state document. Danny
- 2:05shared some of the success stories that he's seen with
- 2:08advisors, such as implementing an estate planning checklist as
- 2:12a part of their onboarding process, and how they have a
- 2:15network of trust and estate attorneys in every state. He's
- 2:18also seen advisors monetize this, where they charge clients
- 2:22for legacy planning sessions, and where they use this as a
- 2:25part of their prospecting. This is another area and way that
- 2:29advisors can deliver more value to their prospects and clients.
- 2:32Let's get into action items. Visit wealth.com to get a demo
- 2:36and learn more about them and how they can help your practice.
- 2:40Have a way to keep track of your clients and where they are in
- 2:43their estate planning journey and how you can help them in
- 2:47their needs. And unless you've done this in the last 12 months,
- 2:50for your next quarter, value add, go through every single
- 2:54client's estate plan. On Thursday, Jamie was talking
- 2:57about professionalism and the authority principle and why it
- 3:00matters. Now, when you're done, Jamie recommends that you go out
- 3:04and get credentials, because if you're older in the industry,
- 3:08you have that experience, but when you're younger, you just
- 3:11don't have that until getting credentials can help establish
- 3:14some level of authority. However, she cautioned against
- 3:18getting too many things after your name, because there's a
- 3:21point where it just won't mean anything to your client. It'll
- 3:25disappear that all you do is take tests. Jamie then shared
- 3:28the authority principle, which says that people tend to follow
- 3:32and trust the opinions of perceived authority that signals
- 3:35to someone that this person is trustworthy because they have
- 3:39the privilege of knowing something that you don't or that
- 3:42you're restricted from being able to do. So when you hire
- 3:45someone, they're the person you're looking to provide the
- 3:49advice so you can make a decision, and you're
- 3:51transferring the responsibility to the professional. People need
- 3:55this because they don't like risk or uncertainty. They want
- 3:58to be safeguarded. Jamie then talked about why this is so
- 4:02important to constantly revisit the estate planning
- 4:05conversation, because things change. So they are going
- 4:08through beneficiaries every couple of years. The reason they
- 4:12want to have that hard conversation with clients while
- 4:15they're both still alive is that it provides emotional relief,
- 4:18and they typically work hand in hand with the estate planning
- 4:22attorney because they know questions will come up and they
- 4:25want to have documentation that any other professional needs.
- 4:29And through this, Jamie said, You stitch yourself into the
- 4:32fabric of your client's life. It creates earned trust, and it
- 4:36allows your clients to feel more and more confident about working
- 4:40with you. That wraps up this week's recap. So TPR nation, if
