Transcript
- 0:00Hello there this is Obi Wan the right Obi Wan, the dog Obi Wan
- 0:07and this is most things Kenobi. I have a bad feeling about this.
- 0:27Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:30podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:33I'm your host, Lauren. And I'm your host, Leanne.
- 0:37You know, sometimes it feels difficult for me to say my own
- 0:40name. Do you ever have that problem?
- 0:43It's always awkward when I say it.
- 0:45Yeah. Who am I?
- 0:48Who are you? I don't know.
- 0:50I can say your way. Leanne is easy.
- 0:52Lauren is like, I can't even get my mouth around my own name.
- 0:55It's fucking weird. Anyway, my name is Lauren.
- 0:58That didn't come out bad. Yeah, try mine.
- 1:03My name is Leanne your Your name is way easier to say for me.
- 1:07All right, all right. Welcome to the show everyone.
- 1:16What a great way to start. You never know with us.
- 1:20You know it's a mixed bag in these parts here.
- 1:24You could call us like the Trail Mix podcast of Star Wars.
- 1:29Sometimes it's a chocolate morsel, sometimes it's a cashew.
- 1:33But it's always delicious. And filling OK anyway, what is?
- 1:43This I don't know, but clearly we need each other today.
- 1:46This has been a tough day. Very happy to be here and to
- 1:50talk about what the Jedi code this time.
- 1:53Yes, we are going to try and poke holes in the Jedi Code.
- 1:57If you haven't listened to the last episode, you might want to
- 1:59start there. You don't have to, but it might
- 2:02get you a little oriented to what we're talking about today.
- 2:04Last time we tried to defend the Sith code, and this time we're
- 2:09going to poke holes in the Jedi code.
- 2:10And I have to tell you, I'm in a bad mood and this is going to be
- 2:14easy. Yes, well, line by line we'll
- 2:22get to feel it out and see where we're at because we're both in
- 2:24fine moods today. Actually, this podcast is our
- 2:30bright spot and we always say it and it really is though.
- 2:33That's true. It like no, no exaggeration.
- 2:37It really is. All right, let's criticize some
- 2:40Jedi. Let's do it.
- 2:42I'm ready. Listen, last episode was
- 2:45difficult. Yeah, that was challenging.
- 2:48Yes, it was. We found ourselves constantly
- 2:50trying to defend the Jedi or the Sith Code and constantly saying
- 2:55this is a bunch of bullshit. You know, just coming back
- 2:57around to what we've always felt about it.
- 2:59So let's see if we do the same with this code.
- 3:02This one, though, this one I don't know.
- 3:06All right, we got to put on our our masks.
- 3:09Jedi masks or our Sith masks? Yeah.
- 3:12Yeah, our our anti anti anti. We're just gonna devil's
- 3:16advocate poking holes looking for loopholes, right?
- 3:18Yeah, yes. OK.
- 3:20OK. All right.
- 3:21First line There is no emotion, there is peace.
- 3:27Wrong. Yeah, fuck that shit.
- 3:34You're off to a great start. Right now, I'm sorry but emotion
- 3:38is a normal part of being a human being and any therapist
- 3:41will tell you the more you repress your emotion, yes,
- 3:45unhealthier you'll be. Honest to God, and the reason
- 3:50why I said false is I don't know that it's healthy to say there
- 3:55is no emotion. Perhaps, maybe there is control
- 3:58of emotion. Yes, yes, yeah.
- 4:02Really, if you feel through something, you really sit with
- 4:07it, you honor it and you give it a name and you let it go.
- 4:12That's when you find peace. So I don't know that no emotion,
- 4:15quote UN quote is the correct terminology here, or phrasing.
- 4:20I don't know what you'd call it. But I totally agree with you.
- 4:22Yeah, I don't know. I feel like this code is for
- 4:25people who have already achieved Jedi status and have control.
- 4:29That's brilliant. Yeah, maybe.
- 4:32It's not really fair for just a regular initiate.
- 4:35Maybe with me, like I don't, I don't know how this works.
- 4:39How is there no emotion? Because even Obi Wan's a great
- 4:44example. He is a very excellent Jedi and
- 4:48he always says the right thing. But you can tell he has emotion.
- 4:54He's just not expressing it. And ultimately, I think he ends
- 5:01up serving the Council rather than the actual Jedi ideals or
- 5:08the actual Force. So yeah, I think this is setting
- 5:13you off on a very unhealthy foundation.
- 5:16And and. Maybe it's just the semantics of
- 5:17the wording, but it doesn't feel good to me.
- 5:23You remember the last episode how we both agreed that the Sith
- 5:27code was kind of a step ladder? Yes?
- 5:30I find that the Jedi code is a reminder to Jedi's to the Jedi,
- 5:36not plural the Jedi. I think you could say it either
- 5:40way. Jedi, Moose, Jedi and Jedi's I.
- 5:44Think, OK, well, broccoli or broccoli, asparagus or asparagi.
- 5:51The thing is, I don't know. I don't know what I'm saying.
- 5:57I do think that this code, I'm sorry, I do think that this code
- 6:03is a kind of a cold reminder of like, don't have any emotion.
- 6:09You must remain peaceful, you know, and then on and on and on.
- 6:13Yeah, I agree with you. But it's unhealthy.
- 6:15It's unhealthy like you said. Yeah, it.
- 6:17Feels more like someone wagging their finger at you than the
- 6:20Sith code. It has.
- 6:21It has that flavor, yeah. Yeah.
- 6:24Do you remember the Sith code also was like me, me, me, I, I,
- 6:27I and there really is none of that in here.
- 6:31I like that about the Jedi code. Yeah.
- 6:34It's an overarching kind of theme to live by, I guess.
- 6:39Yeah. And they're not saying you
- 6:40should not have emotion. You should not have, you know,
- 6:43any of that. It's yeah.
- 6:46In that sense, it feels more a code to live by.
- 6:51But I can totally see why the Sith would say this is just a
- 6:55bunch of BS. Peace is a lie, Yeah, I mean.
- 6:59Yes, which we talked about last time.
- 7:01That like peace really kind of feels like a fallacy, except for
- 7:04personal peace, right? Again, we, I think we kind of
- 7:08mentioned Buddhism maybe in the last episode, maybe I don't
- 7:11remember, but they also like Stoicism.
- 7:15Actually I'll I'll use Stoicism instead.
- 7:18Yes, let's do Stoicism, which. I have to say modern ideas of
- 7:22Stoicism are often misunderstood.
- 7:24People are like, I agree, you don't feel anything and just Oh
- 7:27well, life happens. That's not what like Marcus
- 7:30Aurelius. Stoicism is very different from
- 7:33what people like to say it is now.
- 7:34But it's, it's not that you have no response, like Oh well fuck
- 7:41it all. It's that you realize you can't
- 7:44impact anything really other than your reaction to something.
- 7:50And so in that case, instead of letting emotions rule you, you
- 7:54would acknowledge them and then try to control them for your own
- 7:59inner peace. That makes sense to me, but I'm
- 8:02not sure. I guess that's, I guess that's
- 8:05what the Jedi mean, right? Yes, when I think of the Jedi
- 8:10that come to mind, they all felt something.
- 8:13They all had emotions. Geez, Luke did and Qui Gon Mace,
- 8:18what's up? Mace?
- 8:20He was pretty emotional and he was lacking emotion when he
- 8:23should have had some, you know. So I mean, I guess there's again
- 8:28a balance. You don't want to turn into
- 8:30Anakin. Luminara kind of comes to mind
- 8:33for me for this first. One.
- 8:34Yeah, yeah, yeah. She had too much peace, too
- 8:38little emotion, too much peace. Yeah, and maybe that makes her a
- 8:43good Jedi, but ultimately it let her kind of be willing to
- 8:47sacrifice before it was necessary.
- 8:50Right. Yeah, totally agree.
- 8:53All right, well, the next line. Do you want to read the next
- 8:55line? Yes, there is no ignorance,
- 8:58there is knowledge. I like this one.
- 9:03This one makes me laugh a little bit because who says there's no
- 9:08ignorance? There's ignorance, there's
- 9:11ignorance in the absence of knowledge, but the ignorance is
- 9:16still present. You don't know what you don't
- 9:18know. That's correct.
- 9:21So what are they implying here? That you must gain knowledge.
- 9:27None of these lines like lead into the next one.
- 9:31They're individual thoughts. Yeah, whereas the Sith was like
- 9:36building each one would build off to the next one.
- 9:40This one's difficult. OK, so it kind of brings to mind
- 9:44that Mark Twain quote about travel being the antidote to
- 9:49ignorance or something like that.
- 9:52OK. And the only cure for ignorance
- 9:57is to seek knowledge. But that's not what this says.
- 10:00Is this referring to experience? Good question.
- 10:05Are you reliant on your master to teach you everything so that
- 10:08you're not ignorant? Let's let's take the example of
- 10:12Ahsoka. She was taught many things by
- 10:17both Obi Wan and Anakin and she honestly succeeded and thanked
- 10:21Anakin for the knowledge that he bestowed upon her.
- 10:25But again, she didn't know that she would have to use certain
- 10:29parts until she was stranded on that with the rest of those.
- 10:32It was like young Chewy and young, you know, when she was on
- 10:35that island. Yes, yes, yes, The Hunt or
- 10:38whatever it was. Yeah, yeah, that one.
- 10:40And that was like a really great moment between her and Anakin
- 10:43because she had the knowledge to endure and get out of that
- 10:46situation. And then as we see her mature
- 10:49and leave the Order, she has a lot of knowledge.
- 10:52But I I don't understand the no ignorance, the word no.
- 10:55I have a problem with in every single one of these lines.
- 10:59It's too harsh A delineation. There has to be room for
- 11:03humanity. Well, the the problem is, is
- 11:06aren't we trying to seek balance?
- 11:08And when you say there is no emotion, there is peace.
- 11:12That means there's no between. There's no Gray space.
- 11:15Yeah, I'm looking up the formal definition of ignorance.
- 11:19Oh, let's go. What's this say?
- 11:20To be ignorant is destitute of knowledge or education, lacking
- 11:26comprehension of a specified thing.
- 11:29So train in the temple and gain thy knowledge.
- 11:37I mean, isn't there a better way of saying this that just like
- 11:40always be learning, know that you don't always know
- 11:43everything? That's a much better way of
- 11:46phrasing it, I mean. This implies that if you go to
- 11:49school, you'll never be ignorant.
- 11:51Of course you'll have areas in your life where you're ignorant.
- 11:53You can't possibly know everything.
- 11:56What's that phrase? You can't ask a fish to fly.
- 11:59You'll always be disappointed. But it's he doesn't know how,
- 12:02he's not capable. You can't ask of someone what
- 12:05they don't know how to do. So I don't know.
- 12:10Stupid. This is weird.
- 12:12Next line. Did you have an accent on that?
- 12:20Kind of. It did like a Staten Island.
- 12:22Yeah, I get. You know, when I was a little
- 12:25kid, I had a speech impediment and I sounded like I was from
- 12:27New York. It was kind of from New York,
- 12:31but wow. Oh, one of those.
- 12:34Oh yeah, OK. That's where your vowels are all
- 12:36like really wide. Yeah, it got better at school
- 12:39but comes through every now. That's cute.
- 12:45All right, the next line is there is no passion, there is
- 12:48serenity. Well, passions mentioned in the
- 12:51Sith code there is only passion I believe, right?
- 12:55Something like that, yeah. Something there is no peace,
- 12:58only passion or some shit. Something like that.
- 13:01I know we're just, we're not talking about.
- 13:03Yeah, well, The thing is, is that there is passion, but
- 13:07they're telling the Jedi they must not be passionate.
- 13:10You must be serene. Just as so counterintuitive to
- 13:14being a human being. That's the problem I'm having
- 13:17with this. Maybe as you get older and I've
- 13:21noticed this for myself, maybe you've noticed it for yourself,
- 13:24your passions like your obsession or your excitement
- 13:28gets tempered a little bit. It does.
- 13:31But there's, there's still stuff that I, I like to feel
- 13:34passionate about things. And I think we talked about this
- 13:37in the last episode. The passion in and of itself is
- 13:40not bad. Mm hmm.
- 13:42So passion and serenity, I think both things are important to
- 13:49feel at some points in your life.
- 13:51Now, maybe when you get older or become a better Jedi, you stop
- 13:56feeling passion. But I mean, from a marketing
- 14:00perspective, if you're the Jedi Council, wouldn't you want some
- 14:03passion in the people who practice your ways so that they
- 14:06want to keep truly the order going?
- 14:10Too much passing because I mean. But The thing is, these are so
- 14:17fucking polarizing. Yes.
- 14:20They're too polarizing. There is an in between, you
- 14:24know? Well, listen.
- 14:25OK, OK, Let me back this up. Let me back this up.
- 14:28Think like a Jedi for two seconds.
- 14:31Very hard. Through knowledge, you become
- 14:33more serene because you just said it yourself.
- 14:35The older we get, the more kind of wise we get.
- 14:40We're less, you know, zero to 60, you know, like we used to
- 14:46be. Whether that's because we're
- 14:48perpetually exhausted or if it's because we learned a thing or
- 14:53two. You could connect the two.
- 14:55Knowledge and serenity and a little bit of peace thrown in
- 14:58there. I'm way more at peace now with
- 15:00myself than I ever have been my entire life.
- 15:03That can only come from some experience, because through
- 15:07lived experience you gain more knowledge about yourself.
- 15:11OK, now I'm defending it God damn it.
- 15:14Well, then I get it. If you're like, say you react to
- 15:17a situation hot, headedly, passionately, that's not good.
- 15:22You want to react to something with serenity and calm.
- 15:25And so in that regard, I get it. But yeah, like you said, it's
- 15:29very polarizing. You learn a thing or two about
- 15:32maybe I shouldn't act that way. I'm going to react this way or
- 15:37not react, but kind of act this one.
- 15:39I'm going to breathe first before I act.
- 15:41That's, that's knowledge. That's not being ignorant
- 15:44anymore of how to kind of temper your passion and your emotion.
- 15:49I guess. See, I'm now I'm working
- 15:51backwards just like I did with the Sith code, but I'm having
- 15:54more trouble with this one than the Sith.
- 15:56The Sith. The Sith was kind of a clear
- 15:58path. This is, like you said, a finger
- 16:02pointing exercise. You better not be ignorant,
- 16:07better not feel. Passion, or else you get to the
- 16:13Citadel. Damn it, Jedi.
- 16:19The next one is there is no chaos, there is harmony.
- 16:23Now we could get into the chaos theory, but I'm not going to do
- 16:26that today. This feels like the same
- 16:32sentiment as the previous line. True.
- 16:35Serenity harmony. Harmony is a little more towards
- 16:39balance cause harmony means like equal on both sides so to.
- 16:43Speak. Chaos is like what they mean in
- 16:50my opinion by passion, cause passion like you and I said
- 16:54doesn't need to be bad thing. But chaos, OK, that is not
- 17:00great. I'm picturing chaos as disorder,
- 17:04maybe of the mind, perhaps in practice of using the Force.
- 17:09When you're chaotic, you're not. You're not gathered.
- 17:12You're not tethered. Think of mall versus Obi Wan, if
- 17:15you will. Yes.
- 17:17That's a great example. There's one who's very chaotic
- 17:19and there's one who's very not. And the minute that Obi Wan gets
- 17:25a little chaotic with his bam bam bam, you know, just whacking
- 17:29and throwing the lightsaber and losing his control, he's off his
- 17:33balance, right? So when I think of that, he he
- 17:35was getting a little into the chaos realm, but then like
- 17:39regathered himself and found harmony in the fight, which is
- 17:42what he does best, right? The yeah, the beautiful dance of
- 17:45it all. Am I defending this against son
- 17:47of I can't I, I bounce, I, I go back and forth and I'm going to
- 17:51keep doing this. It's two sides to one coin.
- 17:55You can't have peace without getting through the emotion.
- 17:59You can't gain knowledge without first being ignorant.
- 18:02You can't become serene without doing something about the
- 18:05passion. It's, it's a balance, right?
- 18:08Yeah. Again, the word no is very
- 18:11limiting. Yes, yeah.
- 18:13I think it's really more about, for the lack of a better word,
- 18:16conquering the negative state that they list first.
- 18:19Mm Hmm. Mm hmm.
- 18:22Like you've said, we've all felt chaotic and you still will
- 18:27throughout times in your life. I don't think there's ever a
- 18:30person who could permanently achieve perfect harmony forever.
- 18:34Unless you're the Buddha, you know, like.
- 18:36Yeah, truly. We as humans can feel a state
- 18:42and learn that state of peace or serenity, but you will slip out
- 18:48of it because of daily life, at least in our modern lives.
- 18:51Maybe the Jedi, it's easier 'cause they have, you know, the
- 18:53room of 1000 fountains they can dance into.
- 18:56Whenever they feel chaotic, they can go meditate.
- 19:00Wish I had that. Or a fountain I would.
- 19:03Love, 1000 Fountains. Me too.
- 19:05Are there really 1000 fountains in there?
- 19:07I always wanted to know. Is there a therapist behind
- 19:11hiding behind any of them? Still looking for that therapist
- 19:15in the Jedi Temple? Yeah, they need it.
- 19:18They now that you've said that, this makes this feels a little
- 19:22better for me, but I I still agree with you with the word no
- 19:26is. Think of a youngling.
- 19:28Yeah. Think, think of them when they
- 19:30are a little passionate or they're ignorant to the lesson
- 19:34or they're a little chaotic and they're not perfectly doing the
- 19:38balance of whatever is, you know, balancing rocks or
- 19:42fighting with us. You know how that in the
- 19:44acolyte, they were teaching those younglings and they were
- 19:46all had their sticks and they were doing it in perfect unison
- 19:49of everyone like a dance. Imagine a little youngling who's
- 19:53learning and feels inadequate because Oh no, they had a little
- 19:58bit of chaos or they felt a little bit too passionate about
- 20:01something. They're going to think they're
- 20:02bad, that they're wrong, that they're not good enough.
- 20:04Yeah. And that's, I don't know that
- 20:06that's great. It's it's like guaranteed to
- 20:11give people a guilt complex to phrase things this way, yeah.
- 20:17Now is peace, knowledge, serenity and harmony goals to
- 20:20achieve? Absolutely.
- 20:22But to say there is no ABCDI, don't know.
- 20:26Yeah, 'cause every day is a, you know, rainbows and unicorns,
- 20:29you're gonna have days where you feel like shit, but if you're
- 20:32well practiced, you'll be able to help yourself, you know,
- 20:37regain the state of serenity or whatever that comes with self
- 20:44knowledge and patience. A shit ton of patience and.
- 20:49Where's that on here? Yeah, it's not at all.
- 20:53And children need to learn that perfection is not possible.
- 20:59But doing your best to remember to step out of the chaos if you
- 21:05can. But I don't know how to, you
- 21:09know, if you're making a, a code, you can't say now do your
- 21:12children all written out. Remember to step out of chaos if
- 21:16you can. It's wordy, I get it.
- 21:19That's why I think this has to be like a reminder code for
- 21:23established Jedi. Yeah.
- 21:25I just don't know that it's appropriate for anyone who isn't
- 21:28established, honestly. We're sending teenagers out to
- 21:33war in the Republic. Are they going to remember all
- 21:36this? I mean, I understand that it's a
- 21:38test for them that they have to remember these and practice
- 21:41these while they're out. But like, if you're overseeing
- 21:45thousands of clones, I don't know if I'd remember all these
- 21:49at once. Maybe that's the trick.
- 21:52I don't know. I'd have to have a CHEAT SHEET
- 21:54somewhere so I don't forget. Oh, put it on your hand.
- 21:57Oh. Oh, put it.
- 21:59Slip a piece of paper inside your lightsaber and pull it out
- 22:01at the base. Be like, OK, And there's no
- 22:04motion. There's peace.
- 22:05There's no ignorance. OK, got it.
- 22:06Put it back in. Let's go.
- 22:09Totally would work. I can imagine.
- 22:12Oh. My God.
- 22:14Flash cards. Jedi flash cards.
- 22:18I want some, it'd be fun. All right, well, you want to
- 22:22read the last. There is no death.
- 22:25There is the force. Now.
- 22:27Come on. Hold.
- 22:29Hold on. What?
- 22:33What? What are you talking about?
- 22:38I know we're playing devil's advocate.
- 22:39I know what they're talking about.
- 22:40But like, what? What do you mean there's no
- 22:45death? Are they saying I know what
- 22:48they're saying? What are they trying to convey
- 22:49here? Don't worry about death.
- 22:52There is only the force. And through the force you will
- 22:54become one with what? From where you came?
- 22:57Is this to comfort someone to like rush in to war with 1000
- 23:01clones and don't worry about what happened?
- 23:04Like why are we telling people that there is no death?
- 23:07And why is the force the answer? I I need more?
- 23:11Well, they did not know at this time Force Ghost was possible.
- 23:16Yeah. The wills I'm trying.
- 23:18To not think of that. Oh yeah, the wills are all over
- 23:21this. Yeah, and they, from what I
- 23:24understand, the Jedi did not believe in an afterlife, so to
- 23:27speak, but they believed in you reconnecting with, is it the
- 23:30cosmic force 'cause there's two, you know, there's two kinds of
- 23:34force. And so when you die, your energy
- 23:37joins, rejoins the Force. So like, you know, ashes to
- 23:43ashes, so to speak, energy to energy.
- 23:45I I get that. I get that, yeah.
- 23:47You still die. They did not believe in
- 23:49preserved consciousness. So then what is death if not
- 23:55that? Now if we think of Obi Wan
- 24:01coming to his death with Vader in episode 4, he seemed pretty
- 24:05peaceful and he welcomed death because he would be more
- 24:10powerful than you'll ever imagine.
- 24:12And this that the other but we know about the force ghosts.
- 24:16And we've talked about this before that when that movie was
- 24:19written, did did they know Force Ghosts were coming and Empire
- 24:24Strikes Back? Because they didn't even know
- 24:26that movie was going to get greenlit at the time that A New
- 24:30Hope. Was, I know.
- 24:31We talked about that with James, didn't we?
- 24:33We did. Yeah, Yeah.
- 24:35Because as as a kid, I remember when Obi Wan joins the force,
- 24:38whatever, I remember just being like what just happened.
- 24:42Yeah, yeah. But he does give that line of
- 24:45strike me down, you know, and well.
- 24:48I guess he does talk to Luke later, you know, trust the
- 24:51Force, Luke, you know, at the end.
- 24:54That was pretty good. Pretty good.
- 24:59I mean, it's true, I guess. I guess again, I'm displeased at
- 25:04the word no, because obviously there's death, but the opposite
- 25:08of death is not the force. So this is misleading, at least
- 25:12in my opinion. The opposite of death is not the
- 25:14force. One death is a normal part of of
- 25:17cycles. So does that make it part of the
- 25:20force then? Yeah.
- 25:22You would have to accept the death in order to do that.
- 25:25So the the the phrase there is no death is again no.
- 25:29Yeah. And even in nature, when things
- 25:32die, there's rebirth. Yeah.
- 25:34Even if you believe that, you know, the body dies, there would
- 25:37still be some part of the cycle that either comes back or gets
- 25:41regenerated or whatever. I don't know, Just it's, it's
- 25:45too simplified, I think, considering how complex we know
- 25:50the wills and the midichlorians and all this other shit that's
- 25:54that's part of Star Wars now, to say there is no death, there's
- 25:59only the Force. It's like like you said, I need
- 26:01more information. Well I know, and not only that,
- 26:04but not every Jedi dies and becomes one with the force.
- 26:08No, some just straight up die and their bodies just stay
- 26:12there. Where's Ben Solo?
- 26:15We don't know. We still don't know.
- 26:17Yeah. You think he gave the ultimate
- 26:19sacrifice that he didn't turn into a forest ghost?
- 26:21So what are we doing? I don't know.
- 26:23Yeah. And Qui Gon gets burned on the
- 26:27pyre. So we know that the body doesn't
- 26:32prevent, you know, and like, you know, there was that whole
- 26:36controversy of he appears as a Force ghost in the Kenobi
- 26:40series. And like he said in Clone Wars
- 26:42that he did not know how to do that.
- 26:45Yes. Sam Whitworth argues that he's
- 26:48had time to train in the afterlife, which I think is
- 26:51funny, but. Well, what?
- 26:53Whatever Sam says. Yeah, I'm here for.
- 26:56Sam Sam is in charge, so. Sam knows a thing or two.
- 27:01Yeah, he's a walking encyclopedia.
- 27:03He really is and, and we could. I mean, there's nothing saying
- 27:07he didn't train in the afterlife, so if I can't find an
- 27:11excuse or a reason saying he didn't, I can't roll it out.
- 27:15OK, so peace, knowledge, serenity, harmony, the force.
- 27:20Those bolded words I totally get.
- 27:24Yeah. All beautiful traits of a well
- 27:27skilled and knowledgeable Jedi. Yeah, but other business.
- 27:35What would we say in place of this to make this better?
- 27:38It can't be. There is no right, There is no
- 27:42emotion, there is no ignorance because it's denying something
- 27:46that does exist one way or another.
- 27:49And it and the idea I think that they're going for is not to deny
- 27:52it, but to learn control over yourself so that you achieve
- 27:58peace, knowledge, serenity. Blah blah blah.
- 28:01Here's how I would write it. When there is strong emotion,
- 28:05seek peace. When there is ignorance, seek
- 28:09knowledge. Where there is passion, seek
- 28:12serenity. When there is chaos, seek
- 28:15harmony. And when there is death, seek
- 28:17the force. Yeah, I like that actually.
- 28:21That leaves open the fact that everyone may experience strong
- 28:26emotion or ignorance or passion, etcetera, etcetera, and it is
- 28:29your duty as a Jedi to seek out these key bolded things that
- 28:36make a Jedi a Jedi. I love that.
- 28:39That's brilliant. OK, Jedi.
- 28:41Just a thought. You need to hire Leanne to
- 28:43rewrite your code. Peace is a lie, bitch.
- 28:47That would be first on the Sith. So here I'm a little more
- 28:52gentle. I think the I think the Sith
- 28:56would appreciate my rewriting. I think the Jedi would
- 29:00appreciate it as well. I think so too.
- 29:02You make it more accessible and more Yes, it's gentler, but not
- 29:07weaker. It allows for you to be
- 29:11imperfect and still be striving to be a better person.
- 29:15Whereas this gives you like no wiggle room.
- 29:17As it's written, it's a very. You there is only this, there's
- 29:21none of this, there's only that. Like, I know they don't say
- 29:24there's only, but it's the implication of that.
- 29:26And despite all of this, I think a proper Jedi would seek these
- 29:32things throughout his career, throughout his life, throughout
- 29:35his, as soon as he's graduated, he or she, I shouldn't just say
- 29:39he, but like the the collective Jedi, as soon as they reach a
- 29:45level, their job then is to seek out these things and always try
- 29:49to improve upon them because there is no perfection, which
- 29:52you mentioned earlier. Yep.
- 29:54And you as a master is your job to teach your paddle on the
- 29:58skills to achieve what's listed in this code, precisely because
- 30:04this is not the kind of stuff you're born knowing intuitively.
- 30:07You need to be taught how to control your mind and your
- 30:11thoughts. And that is a big and it's a big
- 30:13deficit, I think a lot of us feel.
- 30:16Absolutely. That's a lifelong thing where
- 30:18you're reminded over and over and over and over again because
- 30:21it never stops. There's always going to be
- 30:23emotion. There's only you're always going
- 30:24to be ignorant of something. I like this needs improvement.
- 30:30C Minus. You know what I mean, though?
- 30:38It's like, it's like, it's OK, we can work with it.
- 30:41Yeah, could be better. I love you so.
- 30:46Much join us back for our next episode where we we were gifted
- 30:59a little book by one of our dearest friends of the podcast
- 31:03and patron, Ben. Shout out to Ben.
- 31:06Hi, Ben. We decided to take that gift and
- 31:11turn it into an episode and the gift, the book is be more Obi
- 31:15Wan or be more like Obi Wan, and it's in the series of like be
- 31:18more like Leia, be more like loose.
- 31:20So we're going to go through that book and see what it takes
- 31:23to be more Obi Wan and list all the ways that we will inevitably
- 31:28fail and trying to be more like Obi Wan.
- 31:32Right away, the beard. We just can't do the beard.
- 31:36First and foremost, the hair. Get it out of the way.
- 31:39Facial hair and head of hair is just not going to happen here.
- 31:42Not happening, but we're going to go through that like the
- 31:46highlights of the book. It's not a very long book.
- 31:48It's a very cute book, but it's got some good Nuggets in there
- 31:51that we're going to talk about. So join us back here.
- 31:53We're going back to Obi Wan next episode.
- 31:57Last week we discussed whether or not the Sith Code had it
- 32:01rights and we got a lovely comment from our listener and
- 32:05patron Tara. Tara said it's nice that unlike
- 32:09so many other YouTube channels and podcasts, both of you
- 32:11actually have real discourse about these topics.
- 32:14It's so refreshing. That's very nice.
- 32:17Thank you, Tara. Yeah, I think I and I wrote this
- 32:22to her. Like we, we respect the
- 32:25material. We really do like very genuinely
- 32:28find it fun and interesting to talk about this stuff and laugh
- 32:32at the same time. But.
- 32:33Oh, for sure. You and I both have a good mix
- 32:37of critical like analytical brain, technical brain and
- 32:41creative brain. So I think you.
- 32:43And I. That's why we love talking about
- 32:46this stuff together so much. Honestly, I wouldn't want to
- 32:49talk about it with anyone else, no.
- 32:53Thank you. And thank you Tara.
- 32:55Tara's spot on. On so many things she digs into
- 32:57stuff, so it's nice to hear that she enjoys when we do the same.
- 33:01Absolutely, totally agree with you.
- 33:03Thanks, Tara. Well, thank you so much for
