- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're picking up where we
- 0:06Speaker 1: left off with the New York Times article that was
- 0:09Speaker 1: authored by Matthew Goldstein and Sharon Otterman dealing with Karinia Shulak.
- 0:16Speaker 1: You are the purest man. Ever since she was a child, Dr.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Shulak wanted to be a dentist. She was inspired by
- 0:23Speaker 1: her own family's dental problems and what she saw as
- 0:26Speaker 1: poor dental health in Belarus. She wrote, in an admissions
- 0:29Speaker 1: essay to dental school reviewed by the Times. She completed
- 0:33Speaker 1: four or five years of dental school in Minsk, but
- 0:36Speaker 1: stopped her studies to go to New York. By the
- 0:39Speaker 1: winter of 2012, she accepted Mr. Epstein's help to get
- 0:43Speaker 1: into dental school. After Columbia's College of Dental Medicine initially
- 0:48Speaker 1: rejected her, Mr. Epstein asked his own dentist, Dr. Thomas J. Magnani,
- 0:54Speaker 1: a powerful alumnus, to put him in contact with the
- 0:57Speaker 1: dental school's dean. Mr. Epstein dangled the idea of making
- 1:02Speaker 1: up to a $ 10 million donation. In the end, he
- 1:05Speaker 1: would only give around $ 210, 000 to Columbia, according to an
- 1:09Speaker 1: accounting by the university, but it was enough to grease
- 1:12Speaker 1: the wheels. Must be nice, huh? Little Lord Fuckleroy, Epstein
- 1:17Speaker 1: shows up with a bag of money and gets whoever
- 1:19Speaker 1: he wants into school. The Justice Department files include a
- 1:24Speaker 1: text message chain showing how Dr. Magnani and Dr. James Fine,
- 1:29Speaker 1: a dental school administrator, gave Shuliac a heads up on
- 1:32Speaker 1: topics she would encounter during an admissions exam in April
- 1:36Speaker 1: of 2012 to test her practical skills as a transfer student.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Neither Dr. Magnani or Dr. Fine responded to a request
- 1:44Speaker 1: for comment. Oh, why would they? They don't have to
- 1:48Speaker 1: explain themselves to mere peasants like us. They're fine members
- 1:52Speaker 1: of the community. Pillars, in fact. After she passed and
- 1:58Speaker 1: Columbia admitted her, Mr. Epstein arranged for Dr. Shulak's mother
- 2:01Speaker 1: to visit from Belarus. He would pay her tuition for
- 2:05Speaker 1: three years of school. You are the purest man of
- 2:08Speaker 1: all men, Dr. Shulak wrote to him in June of 2012.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Can you fucking imagine? Imagine the gaslighting that must have occurred.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Or maybe not. Maybe Karinia Shulak was willing to look
- 2:21Speaker 1: past what Epstein really was because of the benefits it
- 2:24Speaker 1: brought her, and unfortunately there's a lot of people like that.
- 2:28Speaker 1: How many people in this story especially? All your love
- 2:33Speaker 1: and care, my parents, school, apartment, thank you so much
- 2:36Speaker 1: for everything. They fought at times over his insistence on
- 2:40Speaker 1: having sex with other women in their 20s, including with
- 2:44Speaker 1: the small group of assistants who did chores for him,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and whom he referred to as his family, according to emails.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Some fucking Charles Manson type shit. That's another thing I've said.
- 2:55Speaker 1: This dude had a cult around him. That was his goal.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Get all those girls believing all kinds of funky shit
- 3:04Speaker 1: and thinking that everything he was up to and the
- 3:06Speaker 1: stuff his friends were up to was fucking normal. Meanwhile,
- 3:09Speaker 1: it was anything but. Shit was about as normal as
- 3:13Speaker 1: Norman Bates. I understand you need it. However, these are
- 3:19Speaker 1: the things that don't feel natural to me. It feels
- 3:22Speaker 1: somewhat dirty to me, she wrote to him in August
- 3:25Speaker 1: of 2012. Nowhere in the Justice Department files that were
- 3:30Speaker 1: reviewed by the Times does Dr. Shulak express a broader
- 3:33Speaker 1: ethical concern about how he was treating those other women,
- 3:37Speaker 1: many of whom would later claim to be victims of
- 3:39Speaker 1: his abuse. Instead, she asked Mr. Epstein to keep his
- 3:43Speaker 1: relations with those women out of sight. See no evil,
- 3:48Speaker 1: hear no evil, speak no evil. And unfortunately, that was
- 3:52Speaker 1: the M.O. surrounding Epstein, not just with Shuliac, but with
- 3:56Speaker 1: most people. If that is not a lot to ask,
- 3:59Speaker 1: please enjoy it, but keep me away from it, she wrote.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I will stay with you no matter what, as long
- 4:04Speaker 1: as you are happy. I love you. Getting a green card.
- 4:10Speaker 1: By the time she applied to Columbia in 2012, Dr.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Shuliac had overstayed the student visa she had obtained in 2010.
- 4:19Speaker 1: In early 2013, Mr. Epstein found a solution to keep
- 4:22Speaker 1: her in the country, the files show. Two years earlier,
- 4:26Speaker 1: New York became one of the first states to legalize
- 4:28Speaker 1: same-sex marriage. Mr. Epstein concluded that a marriage in New
- 4:33Speaker 1: York between two women might be the easiest way to
- 4:36Speaker 1: gain U.S. citizenship without raising red flags that the marriage
- 4:39Speaker 1: was arranged solely to avoid deportation. The marriage hustle. And
- 4:46Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein was pretty good at it. And it wasn't
- 4:48Speaker 1: just the fake marriages. There was a lot of immigration fraud.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And my question has always been, who helped him out
- 4:55Speaker 1: doing that? Like I said in the earlier episode, he
- 4:59Speaker 1: didn't do it on his own. There was somebody in
- 5:01Speaker 1: the immigration office. He had a contact, somebody. Who was it? Mr.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Epstein chose from the ranks of his assistants a 30-year-old
- 5:09Speaker 1: woman from Minnesota to be her spouse. Brad Edwards, the
- 5:13Speaker 1: lawyer for the woman, said that his client was a
- 5:16Speaker 1: victim of Mr. Epstein's and that he could not speak
- 5:19Speaker 1: about her situation. But he said that as a general rule,
- 5:23Speaker 1: nobody was permitted or dared to ever disobey Jeffrey Epstein.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And you know, Brad Edwards has really turned heel here, huh?
- 5:31Speaker 1: All of a sudden, he's defending all these women that
- 5:34Speaker 1: for years he called co-conspirators? Pretty odd to me. And look,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I get it, the facts change on the ground. But
- 5:41Speaker 1: here's a fact that's never going to change. A lot
- 5:43Speaker 1: of those people that he's now representing... were allegedly involved
- 5:48Speaker 1: in abusing people like Virginia. So I don't know how
- 5:51Speaker 1: he squares that circle. The emails show that Mr. Epstein
- 5:55Speaker 1: instructed the woman to meet Dr. Shuliac on the morning
- 5:58Speaker 1: of September 16, 2013, at the New York City Marriage Bureau.
- 6:03Speaker 1: She was told to have her bags packed so she
- 6:05Speaker 1: could immediately fly to the Virgin Islands after getting the
- 6:08Speaker 1: marriage license, while Dr. Shuliac would stay behind to attend
- 6:12Speaker 1: her dental school classes. The women were married three weeks
- 6:15Speaker 1: later at the office of the city clerk. Photos were
- 6:18Speaker 1: taken of the ceremony. Yeah, they had to make it
- 6:21Speaker 1: look legit, right? If anyone came asking questions, we have
- 6:25Speaker 1: to have some contemporaneous evidence that this is legit, or
- 6:27Speaker 1: at least close to being legit. After the wedding, a
- 6:31Speaker 1: Brooklyn immigration lawyer working for Mr. Epstein submitted an immigration
- 6:35Speaker 1: form stating that the woman wanted to list Dr. Shulak
- 6:39Speaker 1: as her wife and beneficiary. The request was approved and
- 6:44Speaker 1: immigration officials dismissed Dr. Shuliac's pending deportation proceedings. Months after
- 6:50Speaker 1: the marriage, Dr. Shuliac got a green card, making her
- 6:54Speaker 1: a lawful resident. Talk about game in the system. My
- 7:00Speaker 1: question is how many other girls did this happen to
- 7:02Speaker 1: that we don't know about? Girls that weren't as lucky
- 7:06Speaker 1: as Karinia Shuliac. Outwardly, the marriage had signs of legitimacy.
- 7:12Speaker 1: The two women shared an apartment in the Upper East
- 7:14Speaker 1: Side building that was partly owned by Mr. Epstein's brother
- 7:17Speaker 1: and where Mr. Epstein housed many of his assistants. They
- 7:21Speaker 1: had a joint bank account at Deutsche Bank and went
- 7:24Speaker 1: on trips together to London, Europe, and Japan. Yeah, accompanying Epstein.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Doing work for Epstein. In May of 2018, she officially
- 7:35Speaker 1: became a U.S. citizen. A year later, Dr. Shulak and
- 7:39Speaker 1: her spouse divorced. According to a report released this year
- 7:43Speaker 1: by Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Dr.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Shulak's former wife claimed she had been forced into the marriage.
- 7:51Speaker 1: The woman, in a statement to the Epstein estate, said
- 7:54Speaker 1: she had not known that the wedding had been scheduled
- 7:57Speaker 1: just days before Dr. Shulak's deportation hearing. The report concluded
- 8:02Speaker 1: that the marriage may have been done to provide Dr.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Shulak with the legal basis to continue residing in the
- 8:07Speaker 1: United States. It didn't recommend any legal challenge to her citizenship.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Of course not. Epstein reached out, talked to his buddies,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and made sure everything was cool. I met Epstein's girlfriend.
- 8:21Speaker 1: In early 2019, Dr. Shulak and Mr. Epstein seemed every
- 8:25Speaker 1: bit the couple. She was living, most of the time,
- 8:27Speaker 1: in his New York mansion and took along her cat, Blueberry,
- 8:31Speaker 1: when they traveled together. She had become a licensed dentist
- 8:34Speaker 1: in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Florida, and New Mexico, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: after completing dental school in 2015. But there's no evidence
- 8:42Speaker 1: that she had much of a practice, even though the
- 8:44Speaker 1: files detail dental equipment installed at some of the residences. Instead,
- 8:49Speaker 1: she spent much of her energy helping to manage his
- 8:52Speaker 1: properties and staff. That was her new role. She took
- 8:55Speaker 1: over for Sarah Kellan Vickers and Ghislaine Maxwell. That was
- 8:59Speaker 1: the role. Now, was she setting up girls to come in?
- 9:02Speaker 1: I don't know. We haven't seen that yet, and she
- 9:04Speaker 1: seems a bit jealous, so probably not. But who knows?
- 9:08Speaker 1: We have to keep going, we have to dig deeper,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and we have to see where the evidence takes us.
- 9:14Speaker 1: No task seemed too small. She instructed his drivers to
- 9:17Speaker 1: keep cold Voss water in Mr. Epstein's cars, organized a
- 9:21Speaker 1: floral installation for his Manhattan mansion, ordered a shipping container
- 9:25Speaker 1: filled with outdoor furniture for his island, and managed repairs
- 9:29Speaker 1: and cleaning schedules for the Upper East Side apartments that
- 9:32Speaker 1: his brother was invested in. In mid-June 2019, The pair
- 9:37Speaker 1: traveled to Paris, where Mr. Epstein had an apartment. On
- 9:41Speaker 1: July 6, Mr. Epstein returned home to the United States,
- 9:45Speaker 1: while Dr. Shulak remained in Europe. When his plane touched
- 9:48Speaker 1: down at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, federal agents were
- 9:52Speaker 1: waiting and arrested him. Too little, too late. Bro should
- 9:57Speaker 1: have been arrested 20 years ago. and not just arrested,
- 10:01Speaker 1: thrown under the prison. About a month and a half
- 10:04Speaker 1: after his arrest, in a 20-minute phone call from jail,
- 10:07Speaker 1: in lower Manhattan, Mr. Epstein told Dr. Shulak that the
- 10:10Speaker 1: federal sex trafficking charges would take longer to resolve than
- 10:14Speaker 1: he had thought. He advised her to find another place
- 10:17Speaker 1: to stay for the time being, according to an account
- 10:20Speaker 1: of the call provided by her lawyer to federal authorities.
- 10:23Speaker 1: The lawyer, Maurice Sercars, said he had told her to
- 10:27Speaker 1: be strong. The next morning, August 10th, 2019, Mr. Epstein
- 10:32Speaker 1: was found to have died by suicide in his jail cell, allegedly.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Now look, I am more than willing to accept that
- 10:41Speaker 1: it was suicide, but we need more evidence. I mean,
- 10:44Speaker 1: when you have Dr. Bodden and several other medical examiners
- 10:49Speaker 1: calling out Barbara Sampson Hawke, for her job here, for
- 10:52Speaker 1: what she said, what she did, I think we have
- 10:55Speaker 1: to take note of that. And I think we should
- 10:57Speaker 1: pay attention. Shortly before his death, Mr. Epstein amended his
- 11:02Speaker 1: will to leave her much of the $ 600 million fortune
- 11:06Speaker 1: that he had at the time, including the large diamond ring,
- 11:09Speaker 1: in contemplation of marriage, according to a handwritten note on
- 11:13Speaker 1: a related document. But how much she will actually receive
- 11:17Speaker 1: is unclear. The estate is worth between $ 120 million and
- 11:22Speaker 1: $ 200 million after paying out large sums to his victims,
- 11:25Speaker 1: records show. There are dozens of beneficiaries, in addition to Dr. Shuliac,
- 11:30Speaker 1: including Mark Epstein's children, who stand to inherit $ 10 million.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Of course they do, and all this money is ill-gotten gains.
- 11:37Speaker 1: The money should be seized. If it was a RICO case,
- 11:40Speaker 1: the money would have been seized. And that's another reason
- 11:43Speaker 1: why it's not a RICO case. People are still getting
- 11:45Speaker 1: rich here. And when I say people, I don't mean survivors.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And to all the jackholes out there saying, oh, it
- 11:51Speaker 1: was a big money grab by the survivors. Well, Jeffrey
- 11:54Speaker 1: Epstein's nieces or whatever the fuck, they're about to get
- 11:58Speaker 1: $ 10 million. And I can assure you, none of the
- 12:01Speaker 1: survivors got $ 10 million from Jeffrey Epstein's estate. So take
- 12:04Speaker 1: your bitch ass narrative and shove it. Yet, despite this
- 12:09Speaker 1: potential windfall, Dr. Shulak did not give up her desire
- 12:12Speaker 1: to be a dentist. By 2023, she was back in
- 12:15Speaker 1: New York applying for a postdoctoral dental program at Columbia,
- 12:20Speaker 1: apparently to fulfill a requirement she needed to obtain a
- 12:23Speaker 1: license to practice in the state. The same two dentists
- 12:26Speaker 1: who helped her gain admission to Columbia in 2012 once
- 12:29Speaker 1: again came to her assistance, according to a copy of
- 12:33Speaker 1: her admission file reviewed by the Times. The file shows
- 12:37Speaker 1: that Dr. Fine, the dean overseeing Columbia's postgraduate residency program,
- 12:42Speaker 1: created a special faculty internship for her at the Midtown
- 12:45Speaker 1: Manhattan dental practice he shared with Dr. Magnani. Both men
- 12:50Speaker 1: gave her their highest recommendation for the program, which she
- 12:53Speaker 1: graduated from in May of 2025, along with six other students.
- 12:57Speaker 1: In November, she received her dental license to practice in
- 13:00Speaker 1: New York. In the aftermath of the release of the
- 13:03Speaker 1: Epstein files, Columbia demoted Dr. Fine and removed Dr. Magnani
- 13:08Speaker 1: from his alumni leadership post. The men declined to comment.
- 13:12Speaker 1: the university did not recommend any consequences for Dr. Shulak,
- 13:17Speaker 1: who it said had met the qualifications for admission. Oh, well,
- 13:21Speaker 1: in that case, I'm sure Jeffrey Epstein and his long
- 13:24Speaker 1: arm had nothing to do with it. At around the
- 13:27Speaker 1: same time she received her New York dental license, Dr.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Shulak entered a want ad on Indeed.com for a part-time
- 13:34Speaker 1: job as a dentist in downtown Brooklyn, according to a
- 13:37Speaker 1: dentist with a practice who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
- 13:41Speaker 1: to discuss workplace issues. It was there that Yoon Han Kim,
- 13:46Speaker 1: a patient, was treated by her twice for cleaning in
- 13:49Speaker 1: December and a filling in February. Ms. Kim said she
- 13:53Speaker 1: hadn't realized Dr. Shuliac's true identity until she saw photographs
- 13:57Speaker 1: of her released with the Epstein files. Feeling duped because
- 14:01Speaker 1: she was not informed of Dr. Shuliac's full name and
- 14:04Speaker 1: wanting to warn other patients, she reached out to the Times. Hey,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I get it, man. I don't want one of Jeffrey
- 14:10Speaker 1: Epstein's Manson family people digging around in my mouth either.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I was so upset, Ms. Kim said. I just couldn't
- 14:19Speaker 1: believe it. Of all the things that happened to me,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I didn't win the lottery. I met Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend. Dr.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Shuliac's last day working at the Brooklyn office was February 12th.
- 14:29Speaker 1: She was supposed to work on February 16th, but called
- 14:33Speaker 1: in sick and never returned. The notoriety from the files
- 14:37Speaker 1: probably made it difficult for her to keep working there.
- 14:40Speaker 1: the dentist at the practice said. Dr. Shuliac's lawyer declined
- 14:43Speaker 1: to say whether she had gotten another dental job. And unfortunately,
- 14:47Speaker 1: that's the scarlet letter, right? Epstein's girlfriend? Somebody that was
- 14:52Speaker 1: that close to him? Somebody that knew what he was?
- 14:55Speaker 1: And not only that, but according to the files, according
- 14:57Speaker 1: to what we know, she never claimed to be a victim,
- 15:00Speaker 1: so she was there willingly. So I could understand why Ms.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Kim wants nothing to do with a dentist that was
- 15:06Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend. I mean, it seems like a quality
- 15:09Speaker 1: life decision to me. So I wonder what's going to
- 15:12Speaker 1: happen with the money. And I wonder if Shuliac is
- 15:15Speaker 1: going to get her share of it. And to that end,
- 15:17Speaker 1: like usual, we'll keep an eye on it. And when
- 15:19Speaker 1: we have some more information, one way or the other,
- 15:22Speaker 1: we'll get that added to the catalog as well. All
- 15:25Speaker 1: the information that goes with this episode can be found
- 15:28Speaker 1: in the description box.
