- 0:04This production is brought to you by the Recess Bell. Oh hi, everybody,
- 0:11this is Film Real right here on the Recess Bell, and I'm joined
- 0:16with the very own creator of this great network that we have. Josh,
- 0:22how are you doing? Pal? I am it's gonna be weird since I
- 0:26own the company to say it's such an honor to be on your show justin,
- 0:29But I mean, listen, I think it's this is the nineteen for
- 0:32twentieth episode. I'm happy that Listen, anybody that doesn't know, I've never
- 0:38been the biggest movie buff, especially growing up. My parents were very restrictive
- 0:42from what they allowed me to consume. So I'm happy that I'm starting to
- 0:45catch up on going to the movies and certain TV shows now. So I'm
- 0:48happy that we have some common ground on things to talk about today. Yeah,
- 0:51You've honestly disgusted me quite a few times. I'm like, have you
- 0:55seen this? You're like, what, you never seen this movie or that
- 0:59movie or there. But there's always time to catch up in obviously, you
- 1:02know, even as you know somebody that watches a lot of movies, there's
- 1:04hundreds and thousands of classic films that I've yet to see. So you know,
- 1:10you know, you still have plenty of life to live to watch some
- 1:12of those classes. I'm definitely enjoying the catching up process, like anybody that
- 1:17you know, my friends. I think I mentioned to y' all the other
- 1:19day, like I was at the movies like twice or three times last week,
- 1:23watching some new watching some like Old One not old Ones, some sequels
- 1:27or pre what was it now, the fourth Bad Boys I watched the other
- 1:32day, Like I'm enjoying going on HBO, Max and Disney Plus and and
- 1:34all these websites and platform stars, and I'm really enjoying the catching up process.
- 1:42It's cool. It's like it's taking me back to like what I would
- 1:44have had as the childhood if I wasn't raised by like I don't know,
- 1:47sociopath. I'm very envious of the fact that you get to watch some of
- 1:52these movies for the first time. I wish I could go back and watch
- 1:53something, you know, like Jurassic Park or Star Wars for the first time.
- 1:57Would be something I would love to do. I still there's a lot
- 2:00of movies I wish I could watch for the first time, like back in
- 2:04the day, Like I know, I feel like my favorite movie was one
- 2:07of my favorite movies that I know. It's gonna sound corny, but like
- 2:09do Whiz My Car? When I first watched that one. Oh yeah,
- 2:13By the way, Corey David in the house always representing the dude wears my
- 2:16car. I think this is the fourth reference that we've had on several shows
- 2:21talking about dude's my car. It's a great movie. But out of all
- 2:23the movies, you know you're a good fellas your citizen kinges, Corey always
- 2:28goes back to dude, where's my car? There's another underrated movie that nobody
- 2:31has probably ever seen except for me. It's called Replicate. Replicate. I've
- 2:38never even heard of replicates. Is there anybody remotely famous in this one?
- 2:43Uh? I feel like the guy who plays There's a lot of just bizarre
- 2:49movies out there. I watched the movie a few years ago called Wraith The
- 2:53Wraith, and it starts Charlie Sheen and he dies and then he gets reborn
- 2:58into a car that they can't they can't be a room. It's a real
- 3:01movie. There's there's a lot of bizarre stuff out there. I mean there's
- 3:06Cinema has been around for well over one hundred years, so every idea has
- 3:08pretty much been done. And that's one of the big issues I've had with
- 3:13Hollywood in recent years is the fact that everything is a reboot, a sequel,
- 3:17or remake, and there's very few original films out there, and the
- 3:21ones that are original that are actually really good, unfortunately don't get the press
- 3:25and aren't being seen by the masses. You know. You know. One
- 3:29of the last movies that I've seen that was like I was impressed with,
- 3:31like the plot and everything, was they cloned Tyrone on Netflix. I've seen
- 3:38that. I didn't think it was gonna be I didn't I didn't have like
- 3:42any like preconceived like notions going into it, but it turned out to be
- 3:46good. One movie that I will never watch it I'm still protesting is to
- 3:49this day, what's the Society of Magic Heroes? Oh? Yeah, I've
- 3:54never watched that movie because it's something that was not problemsed. I'm thinking thing
- 4:00Black People's Uh, Harry Potter. It did not. It did not turn
- 4:05out that like, it did not turn out that way. I'm shocked out
- 4:08of all those parody films that like The Wayne's Brothers Dead, they didn't do
- 4:12a black Harry Potter film. That's what that they hear in this pot now's
- 4:16your chance to go do it and just gotta change his name a little bit.
- 4:19That and Madam Webb, with two movies I had not I've decided I'm
- 4:24not. I did a review of Madam Webb. I believe on this film
- 4:29real you know show and one of the worst movies, but still had a
- 4:35fun time with it. That's the thing with movies, you know, they
- 4:39could be so bad that they're good. I can find usually something entertaining in
- 4:45anything, whether it's you know, uh, music that's being used in the
- 4:47movie, maybe an actress is really beautiful and you could just sort of watched
- 4:53for her beauty, or you know, sometimes they're just so laughably bad and
- 4:58they're trying to be good good, but they're just horrendous. And I felt
- 5:01that way with Madame Webb. You had the good looking chicks and it was
- 5:05just a laughably bad everything. Story, acting, just jack, just just
- 5:12everything that combined. Its just a complete piece of garbage. But Josh,
- 5:16you mentioned, uh, you watched a few movies in theater, so you
- 5:19watched The Bad Boys for. I watched The Bad Boys for I thought it
- 5:23was pretty fun. What did you think of it? I definitely saw it
- 5:27that same way. I think that first off, the plot line was good.
- 5:31I love Martin Lawrence's performance. Absolutely love this performance. Yeah, you
- 5:38know who still showing that one. Reggie. Yes, I'm not gonna lie
- 5:44slowly petitioned for me. Let's get Reggie his on solo fie. That's how
- 5:47it starts though. That's why I like what certain uh peel like talented people
- 5:53and thinkers can do with movies and shows, because ain't nobody thinking about Reggie
- 5:56going into two Bad Boys for but they kind of planted to see Like,
- 6:00Okay, if y'all like this character enough, maybe a spin off can be
- 6:02an option in the future like that. I like stuff like that. Is
- 6:05this gonna be controversial with me saying that? Yeo, I think we all
- 6:09forgot about slap? Yeah, there was a moment Will Smith there was a
- 6:15slap scene and Chris Rock I saw, acted or reacted very adversely to it,
- 6:19like all that that ship wasn't funny. Oh he's still hurt over it?
- 6:26Yeah no, I can't. I can pull up the report right now.
- 6:28He was going off on it, saying like, oh, he's trying
- 6:30to move on, and Will's trying to turn it into a joke, but
- 6:31it ain't nothing funny, but is kind of funny. It am I rod,
- 6:35But did you not have a whole comedy special addressing this well, you
- 6:41know that that's that's him. It was different, It was different, and
- 6:44he botched the end of that comedy special. That was so disappointing, becau
- 6:48cause you can't do a good comedy special if you're too emotional with it.
- 6:53If the if the center of your entire comedy special is something that you're intensely
- 6:58emotional about. I feel like the best comedians like, yeah, you're gonna
- 7:00be passionate about it, but you know, emotional. And also it was
- 7:04live, so like a lot of these specials, obviously, they usually tape
- 7:08like, you know, two nights in a row, and then they pick
- 7:11and choose which joke to go with one night. I felt I thought Marlon
- 7:15Wayne's had a better comedy special dealing with addressed in the slash. Well,
- 7:18Marlon Wayne's is critically slept On throughout his career. He'd been all the Waynes.
- 7:23Damon Waynes is one of my favorites. Okay, Damon had a movie
- 7:28Major Paine, which is one of my favorite. Damon Wayne's is cool,
- 7:31Keenan is cool, Marlon is cool, but it's full. It's a good
- 7:34fall off a like Sean. Sean was good in The Wayne's Brothers Show,
- 7:40but after that, like movies was I believe he was on a movie called
- 7:44Off. I'm trying to think it was like it was on Mike marsh or
- 7:46something like it was in the Scary movie films as well. You know,
- 7:49Marlon Waynes is in a pretty good basketball movie called sixth Man. You've ever
- 7:54seen that way? His brother dies and then he's a ghost and sort of
- 7:58like angels in the outfield where the Ghat is helping the players out. That
- 8:03was that. I feel like that in the movie Senses in Him. Yeah,
- 8:07him and David that came around like the same time, and I'm like,
- 8:11he's funny in both of them, but one has a little more serious
- 8:13under tone with the brother dying and everything like that. But since it was
- 8:18funny, yeah, yeah, No, Wayne's had a decent run. I
- 8:20don't really think he's doing too much these days. Marlon Wayne's right as far
- 8:26as I mean he's it feels like he got like a lifetime deal with Netflix
- 8:30where he's at. And then you got Damon Wayne's He's coming out with a
- 8:33new show with his son, Damion Wayne, Damon and Damon Wayne's I liked.
- 8:41I liked Bad Boys for I think some of the action sequences hit and
- 8:46I definitely would give it a positive review, especially if you're a fan of
- 8:48the franchise. Just to get back to that, was there another film that
- 8:52you saw, Josh? The last movie I saw, I went with one
- 8:58of my friends. We saw Inside Out? Was this with a female friend?
- 9:01It was Yeah, what did you think of Inside Out too? We
- 9:05could we could skip head to that one because I saw that one in theaters
- 9:07as well. I'm not gonna lie. I'm probably the only when I did
- 9:09not see it yet. Yeah, because right now it's about to cross a
- 9:13billion dollars. It's gonna end up being the highest grossing movie of the year.
- 9:18I remember watching Inside Out one. I saw Inside Out one. But
- 9:20I think it's important for Josh, who's a little bit younger than both of
- 9:26us, because I think it's perfect for for that age. You know what
- 9:31do you Yeah? Because it's it's like pure nostalgia for you. Because this
- 9:35is like when Toy Story came back with Toy Story three. You know,
- 9:39this is something over a decade or so. What are you looking at.
- 9:43I'm not in the Toy Story. Well, no, you're in the Toy
- 9:45Story realm. I'm saying, you're not in the Inside Out. You're probably
- 9:48a little older when the first Inside Out came out. Josh as it was,
- 9:50was a young kid when that one came out. So when the sequel's
- 9:54coming out, it's gonna play well to the you know, the early twenties.
- 9:56Thought I had to come out with twenties. I think it's fourteen,
- 10:00twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen. Yeah, really, yeah, definitely close to
- 10:05a decade ago. At this high school when it came out, I was
- 10:07just graduating high school. So yeah, twenty fifteen's when I graduated high school.
- 10:11Wow, I was already out. I was a couple of years.
- 10:13Well, that's what Justin's saying, Like, I guess it was just well,
- 10:16here's the thing. I with the first one, yes, it was
- 10:20a Disney Pixar movie, but even with the first one, I was surprised
- 10:22by the level of depth that it carried because it goes into like emotions and
- 10:30all the things that could combined to make us us right. I think the
- 10:33second movie, for some reason, even though I already had watched the first
- 10:37one and I already knew what kind of the overarching idea was. It Definitely
- 10:41I was justice floored because they introduced obviously the new emotion slash characters like anxiety,
- 10:48as as as Riley's entering puberty. Now, yeah, it touched upon
- 10:52things that I don't know. It's got to be weird to be a parent
- 10:58and bring your kid to something like this, even though this is not crazy
- 11:01crazy, but they are introducing, you know, puberty, and maybe that's
- 11:05something you don't want to deal with, you know. He just sort of
- 11:09want maybe a teacher to deal with that, or a doctor or maybe your
- 11:11mom. Like if you're a father and you're just like, maybe the wife
- 11:16could take care of it. But that is some of the beauty of movies.
- 11:18They can explain things for you. If you don't want to explain death,
- 11:22you could just show them like the Lion King, and that could give
- 11:26them, you know, a baseline as to you know what death is.
- 11:28You know what's crazy? Showty. I went with shout out, Debbie,
- 11:31I'm sure I'll be doing a podcast with her soon. She keeps badgering me
- 11:35to get on a podcast, so I'll make that happen one day. But
- 11:39she brought up the fact that she was talking about her or her niece,
- 11:41and like, oh, my brother didn't want to bring her to this movie.
- 11:46They said it would be too mature. And I even thought to myself,
- 11:48having watched the first one, I'm like, too mature, Like how
- 11:50and then I the movie started, and then they went to puberty and going
- 11:54on, I'm like, ah, makes sense, that's why they said that.
- 11:58Yeah, I don't know how well this would with somebody that's like five
- 12:01or six. I think they would like it. And that's the beauty with
- 12:03a lot of animated stuff. There's something for everybody. You know. When
- 12:07I was a kid, and I've mentioned this before, but like you know,
- 12:11the Simpsons, I would laugh at certain things, and then my dad
- 12:13would be laughing at other things. And then as I get older, I
- 12:16get those things. So I think maybe a five six year old, you
- 12:20know, he'd laugh, oh anger, that's funny, you know, But
- 12:22as far as going through puberty, five year old six year old boy,
- 12:28that's not really gonna play well too. But I think they'll still enjoy it.
- 12:31But I think this movie's really gonna hit for like eleven year old,
- 12:33twelve year old, fourteen year old girls. This is something that's gonna work
- 12:37for them. But then also it's gonna work for the people that were seven
- 12:41eight years old when that first movie came out, and now they're seeing it,
- 12:45you know, when they're in their late teens or when they're turning into
- 12:48adults, and they can even show, you know, for younger parents.
- 12:52You know, if you're twenty five, twenty six and you have a kid,
- 12:54you could show your kids. That's the beauty of a lot of these
- 12:56uh you know sequels, Even though I crap on the lack of originality,
- 13:01it's something you could pass down to other generations. Like, oh, I
- 13:05used to watch this show when I was a kid. Now I'm showing,
- 13:07you know, the Ninja Turtles to my my grandson. As crazy as that
- 13:11sounds, I'm not my grandson. I'm just saying what Ninja Turtles. You
- 13:15could show any Ninja Turtles to any kid. Do you have had the old
- 13:18Do you have had the old ones that came out on the vhs? Of
- 13:20course from Burger King, that's the og Ones that I grew up with turtles
- 13:28in the Hasha Turtle Power. But yeah, I mean my nephew likes Ninja
- 13:31Turtles. But in theory, like you know, Ninja Turtles have been around.
- 13:35Now this is forty years, you know, since the creation of that
- 13:37comic book. So in theory, you know, someone who was fifteen years
- 13:41old when they read that comic book, they could be showing their kid,
- 13:45and now they could be showing their grandkid. And as far as with this
- 13:48inside out goes, I thought it did a great job with you know,
- 13:52with explaining things but not being too preachy, and that is something that yeah,
- 13:56Pixar and Disney in general has had a big issue with lately. You
- 14:01know, Bob Igar, who is the CEO of Disney, He's he's talked
- 14:07about how what do you say as a clown, I just think, well,
- 14:09Disney as a sports fan, what ESPN has turned into. We've talked
- 14:13about it often off the microphone. Yeah, each that's why I say that
- 14:18we had a long, in depth conversation about the ESPN. But yeah,
- 14:22he did mention that because of the lack of success of movies that Disney has
- 14:28had, Disney last year had its first year in quite some time where it
- 14:31didn't have a film gross over a billion dollars. A lot of their movies
- 14:35completely bombed. The new Marvel's movie was a big letdown. You know,
- 14:41they're animated movies in recent years, whether it's light Year or whatever. Pixar
- 14:45film in recent years hasn't been successful, and he basically said this year that
- 14:50we are not gonna do this messaging thing anymore. We're just gonna focus on
- 14:56entertaining. And in one sense, I get it, you know, you
- 15:01don't want to alienate a group of people, but it's also like it takes
- 15:07away a lot of creativity and storytelling that you could put out there. If
- 15:09you're just gonna put out generic stuff, you know, you should be able
- 15:13to push the envelope. So it's a double edged short. You know,
- 15:18it could be awkward to you know, explain to kids certain things, certain
- 15:22aspects that they do introduce in movies, and maybe it shouldn't be in a
- 15:24kid's movie some of the stuff. But then also you're taking away storytelling and
- 15:28I'm not for you know, censorship and stuff like that. But he's the
- 15:31head of Disney, so you can say whatever and do whatever you wants.
- 15:35Yeah, the company is only as good as history is shown, especially in
- 15:39America, They're only as good as their CEO is so I think that's when
- 15:43you look at Disney and n ESPN, which is under the umbrella of Disney.
- 15:46You can draw your own opinions. But in the case of Inside Out,
- 15:48too, I think in terms of what your point was about sequels justin
- 15:54about you know, they're just often a money grab and there's no real continuity
- 15:58or feeling or connection to the previous movie. I think this one is a
- 16:03big outlier in that regard because they attacked a whole new topic. It's a
- 16:07topic that everybody can relate to, and I think part of what Bob Iger
- 16:11was saying was that like not being too preachy, they attacked the topic that
- 16:15we've all gone through puberty, going into high school, leaving your old friends
- 16:18and trying to make new friends. Like that's a sense of anxiety that that
- 16:22brought me. I think that's kind of why the movie resonated with myself so
- 16:26much. It was a very simple story if you really think about it's something
- 16:30that could have worked in a television show, like a half hour story.
- 16:33It wasn't this over the top adventure. You know, on the outside,
- 16:38you know what Riley was dealing with. It was very simple. It was
- 16:41just her at a hockey camp. Inside obviously with the emotions they're putting on
- 16:45their own epic story, but again, it was very simple, very simplistic
- 16:49that a kid could just actually understand what's going on, not having to ask
- 16:55a million questions. There are a lot of stupid people that watch movies.
- 16:57I've I was watching a movie yesterday where a girl it was the New Quiet
- 17:03Place movie, and we will get back to inside out, but this girl
- 17:07has like a patch on our body because she's dealing with medical issues. And
- 17:11I just hear this old guy, what's that? And then you just hear
- 17:14it's a patch. What's the patch for? She's sick? I'm like,
- 17:18you couldn't figure this out? And the guys are screaming loud. It's just
- 17:22it fathoms me that someone in their fifties and sixties couldn't understand a simple thing
- 17:27like a patch is helping this woman healing her her medical issue. And I
- 17:33felt inside out, simplistic story with layers to it. Yeah, but you
- 17:37mentioned that, you know, this story doesn't feel forced and that was a
- 17:42big issue that I had with Toy Story four that just felt like a complete
- 17:47money grab. This is something that they could do four more of these.
- 17:51They could do five more of these movies. You could tell Riley's story going
- 17:55into college. How about this though, how about Riley giving birth? Think
- 18:02about all the weird shit that could happen with that, you know, different
- 18:06emotions that then you could get her even older, like a menopause emotion,
- 18:11and then yeah, they could keep going with dementia. I'm not even joking,
- 18:17like yeah, yeah, I mean she already forgot about bingbong in that
- 18:22first one. I think that this is something that could legitimately go on for
- 18:27seven eight years. You could tell this girl's entire life, and then you
- 18:30could tell her kid's life. Like, this could be something, but it's
- 18:33gonna get to something that we're gonna be talking about later on. Some things
- 18:37just overstay their welcome. But I think this is something that I'd like to
- 18:41see more of this character. I think Riley's a very likable character. They
- 18:45didn't hold anything back, you know, they had a positive message and they
- 18:49also talked about how you have to embrace some of your negative feelings. In
- 18:53life and that's important you can't just put aside. I mean, that was
- 18:56the main takeaway that I took from this movie. And I think that was
- 19:00the obvious point, like, you know, the joy is trying to hide
- 19:04like all of the faults in Riley. And then eventually she's like, no,
- 19:07you need to know that you fuck up in life sometimes and you can't
- 19:11forget that, and you can use that to grow and become a better person.
- 19:14I mean, that's a great message. That was one of my big
- 19:17takeaways too. And you know, you both of you know I'm a big
- 19:18mental health abuff. So this project I started on the recessbell dot com,
- 19:22the Healing Journey. It was funny I started this project and then I believe
- 19:26I watched Inside Out Too the day after I put the first post out.
- 19:30I'm up to part two now it's a fifty part thing, but not too
- 19:33much on that. But when I watched Inside Out Too, it's funny because,
- 19:37like you said, justin in Riley's mind, it was just a very
- 19:41simple, you know, Okay, I'm going to hockey camp my friends.
- 19:45There there was like some miscommunication with her friends. They're going to a different
- 19:48school. She's going to this other school. So her childhood friend's longtime friends
- 19:52she's gonna wind up breaking up with, but they're together at this camp.
- 19:56But then, you know, when puberty comes into play and all the hormones,
- 20:00I mean, men, women, we deal with it in very different
- 20:03ways, yeah, but similar ways too. So I think, just yeah,
- 20:07very simple story, just a girl at hockey camp, right, trying
- 20:10to you know, make new friends and navigate the relationship with her old ones.
- 20:14But inside, like I remember that stage in my life and just all
- 20:18the emotions, and anxiety was a huge one, and the all the emotions
- 20:22I think they introduced four well not I think I know they introduced four new
- 20:26emotions. Anxiety with the big one, but envy, embarrassment, and I
- 20:30think I knew he was the other one. That's pretty much like, oh
- 20:33nothing matters, yeah, yeah, yeah, cares. That's all stuff.
- 20:37I definitely related to it that we all had to w when we were jumping,
- 20:41At least when I jumped from elementary school to middle school. We were
- 20:45introduced to a whole new group of friends, and then maybe you had to
- 20:52stop being friends with some of the friends that you were friends with because it
- 20:56might have been embarrassing to still be friends with this friend. I remember having
- 20:59that, and it's actually one of the things I regret the most in life.
- 21:03I was at a point in my life where I was very friendly with
- 21:07a lot of individuals in high school. You know, I was friends with
- 21:11the stoners. I was friends with like the cooler kids, and then I
- 21:15had my comic book nerd friends that I was into, and I felt like,
- 21:19even though the cooler kids liked me to an extent, I had to
- 21:25force my way into their friendships. I can remember calling them, and you
- 21:29know, they'd ignore me from time to time, and they'd have a party
- 21:32and I wouldn't be invited, and I just kept on pushing it and pushing
- 21:36it. And now I wish I could go back in time and just go
- 21:40stop it. Stop trying to be friends with these people that don't want to
- 21:45be your friend to the extent that you want to be their friend. Go
- 21:48hang out with those comic book nerds. Go be with the friends that want
- 21:52to be with you. And I think that if that movie, if this
- 21:55movie can teach that lesson to somebody, or if I could teach that lesson,
- 21:59if someone listening to this, or if I could teach that to my
- 22:02niece and nephew, which is something that you know, I plan on doing
- 22:06teaching them not just that, but all different things that where I messed up
- 22:08in life. I feel like I can help people and be like, listen,
- 22:12don't do this, don't do that. Yeah, focus on this,
- 22:15focus on that. So to put this in a movie form, with a
- 22:19kid's movie, I think is a really really good thing. And you mentioned
- 22:22some of these new emotions. I thought the voice casting was tremendous standing.
- 22:27The girl who plays anxiety Maya Hawk. You know, people say, oh,
- 22:30she might be a nepo baby because her dad is Ethan Hawk and her
- 22:33mom's Uma Thurman, but yeah, well that's definitely qualified. Yeah yeah.
- 22:38But she's talented though, and that's the I know, that's something we're gonna
- 22:41get to on the Recess Bell. We're gonna be talking about nepotism with some
- 22:48basketball news that was going on, so we're gonna get to that. But
- 22:52also like, there are really good second generation talents, whether it's in wrestling
- 22:57Corey, you know, think about Brett the Hitman and Heart and Charlotte Flair
- 23:02or the rock Roman reigns. Uh and then in music, there's there's plenty
- 23:07of musicians whose you know, parents were once famous, not to the except
- 23:11of wrestling. I'm trying to think of some good artists. I mean,
- 23:15I know a few that are mainstream. It's his who is his parents?
- 23:19Uh Berry Gordy who owned Moti. I know Norah Jones is uh dad was
- 23:26in the music business. And uh I love The Bend the Wallflowers. The
- 23:33dad of the leader of that is Bob Dylan. But even in in movies,
- 23:36you know, there are talented people. Just because you have the opportunity
- 23:38and you were raised this way, you could still take advantage of it and
- 23:41be successful. What's what's the person who was the main actor in Madame Webb
- 23:48Dakota Dakota Johnson, her dad Don Johnson. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 23:53I mean anybody else's kids? Oh yeah, I mean there's a million times.
- 24:00I mean we're gonna be talking about the Boys later on and Hue in
- 24:03that show. Both both the parents are famous, you know, actors.
- 24:07So, but he's good and there are and I think Maya Hawk is actually
- 24:11a really talented actress. And I thought she did a great job in voice
- 24:15acting. And this is something that I talked about on a previous episode voice
- 24:18acting and the fact that you don't need these A list stars to bring in
- 24:22the money. Now, Maya Hawk's relatively famous. She's one of the background
- 24:26characters of Sorts and Stranger Things, But she's not Scarlett Johanson, she's not
- 24:32Emma Stone, she's not winning Oscars, she's not the main lead in anything
- 24:36really. But it just goes to show you that you don't need to cast
- 24:41those people with animated movies. Kids are very simple. They like good stories,
- 24:45they like good characters, they like fun. They don't care that Justin
- 24:48Timberlake's the voice of a troll. They don't care that Will Smith is a
- 24:52fish. They just want good content. And I think casting you know Amy
- 24:56Poehler, who's just a good actress and funny and it has a good cartoon
- 25:00voice, I think I think we're seeing the benefits right now with the amount
- 25:03of money that Inside Out is making. And they didn't have to pay twenty
- 25:07five million dollars thirty million dollars to hire Chris Hemsworth or whomever's you know,
- 25:12Tom Cruise an A list star. So I really dug the voice acting.
- 25:18But as far as just cartoons go in general before we move on to some
- 25:22of the boys, and we're also gonna talk a little bit about the X
- 25:26Men. Corey h Do you guys have a favorite Pixar movie or even a
- 25:30favorite non Pixar, non Disney movie, because you know, every animated movie
- 25:34isn't as far as animated movies go, every animated movie is not Pixar Disney.
- 25:38Is there one that jumps to mind that's like, that's that was my
- 25:41shit when I was a kid. I always favorite Pixar movie favorite picks.
- 25:51I don't know that. I gotta be Toy Story too. Oh, I
- 25:52thought you were gonna I thought for sure you're gonna say Sausage Party, Corey.
- 25:56What. I don't know. I just got that five from you.
- 26:00Do you get the sausage party vibe from Corey? I just kind of think
- 26:07that. I thought that's where he was going. I loved I mean,
- 26:10it was a dope movie. If I'm going with just Pixar in general,
- 26:14I'm going with the first Toy Story, but I think the first three Choice
- 26:15Story movies are perfection. He was great. He was great, Like my
- 26:21favorite, one of my favorite, my favorite to my favorite scene was when
- 26:26Jesse, you know, when she's telling her story, and it's one of
- 26:29the most beautiful scenes. Obod he loves me. If you don't cry,
- 26:33something's wrong. I get a little choked out. Well when Tim Allen and
- 26:38Tom Hanks, you know who are buzzing and what he when they watched the
- 26:41movie for the first time at the premiere, they both looked at each other
- 26:45and they were both crying like they because they didn't see the finished product yet.
- 26:48And that is a very emotional scene. And yeah, that's that's the
- 26:52beauty of picture. They always have that moment in one of their movies.
- 26:57I don't know why, but like the toy stories, music depart like the
- 27:02name when the what's his name? Randy Newman is Yeah, Randy Newman,
- 27:04beautiful, amazing songwriter, screaming clearly, Uh will go remember small people,
- 27:19got no reason? Short people? Yeah, how do you make a song
- 27:25like that? He SE's into the irony and satire. He's a he's a
- 27:29great songwriter. And he wrote that song you know, when Somebody Loved Me.
- 27:32He didn't sing it obviously a woman saying it. But music is very
- 27:33important when it comes to movies. If you don't have the right, he's
- 27:37he was like, his music is like so tied to that franchise. Yeah,
- 27:41yeah, he and he also scores a lot of movies, like he
- 27:44did a famous baseball movie, The Natural. He doesn't just do picture movies.
- 27:48But was also I know, I know, Josh, you know one
- 27:51of his songs at least the I Love l A. You know that that's
- 27:55uh Randy Newman right there. But music is very very important. I don't
- 27:59think people understand and what that can do to a movie if you don't have
- 28:03the right emotional you know, just companion to go along with the movie.
- 28:08What's your favorite animated show? Animated show, I like, like like underrated.
- 28:15When that people would suspect that you like, I mean my underrated,
- 28:18I would go with that is tough. What do you got with yours,
- 28:25Jimmy. That was a little after my time I watched it. It was
- 28:29good. It was good as far as you know. I mean, I
- 28:32love Hey Arnold, I love the Simpsons, King of the Hill, South
- 28:34Park, All Doug is Doug will be probably my underrated and Doug. I
- 28:41remember my father talking to me about Doug and he said this, He's specifically
- 28:45said, like this is a good show because it talked about a lot of
- 28:48the things that actually inside out talks about talks about your emotions and like not
- 28:52fitting in and worrying, and he would go into like these little skits of
- 28:56like his imagination. Yeah, and he my dad was like, this character
- 29:00reminds me of you. I remember, I'm specifically telling me that. And
- 29:04I think children's entertainment should be something that parents could like, but it also
- 29:11shouldn't be dumbed down for kids. It shouldn't be something because a lot of
- 29:15kids are a lot smarter than people give them credit for, and they could
- 29:18see right through certain things. And as far as cartoon shows, I mean,
- 29:22I love the Batman Show, Superman, Justice League, King of the
- 29:25Hill, Animniacs, all that jazz. But as far as movies go that
- 29:30aren't Disney Pixar, I'm gonna go with The Iron Giant as one of my
- 29:36favorites and another one that's very emotional, very very emotional. Towards the end,
- 29:41Josh, did you have a favorite Pixar film or did you have a
- 29:45favorite non Disney animated film that jumps to mind. I'll keep it brief on
- 29:48the movie side, because I did have a take on the animated shows,
- 29:52but the Incredibles from me, I just think that did that movie. It's
- 29:57just like, I don't know, it just it's a great first the first
- 30:02incredible first first one. Yeah, the first one. It's a really good
- 30:04superhero movie. It's really good. It doesn't have the depth that like solid
- 30:10Yeah. No, I think it's very good. I just don't think it
- 30:11has. It doesn't have depth. It doesn't have like what up has.
- 30:15It doesn't have what uh you know Toy Story two has as far as like
- 30:18that scene where you're just like, oh but I wasn't really looking for death
- 30:22as oh ah, they have stretchy and bring me my super suit and all
- 30:30that. That's why I gravitated toys. I mean, my favorite animated movie
- 30:33of all time is Transformers, the movie from nineteen eighty six. There is
- 30:36no depth there. It is one of the dumbest movies of all time,
- 30:38but it is my favorite movie. And nostalgia is plays a big part into
- 30:42that. I'm looking at someone. I'm looking at some of these older movies.
- 30:45I'm like, you know, right, ratitude, I'm just looking at
- 30:48pixel bugs Life, No, the bug Life. I didn't really care for
- 30:52it. Monsters in Monsters inc Is great and that is so emotional, the
- 30:56whole boo thing, you know, king that's very oh Tema. I actually
- 31:02I might want I might need to I might need to change my pick.
- 31:04Surprise, surprise, because this is a movie that I didn't think I would
- 31:07love, but I actually love this movie. I'm trying to think, what
- 31:11is this. I'm trying to think, try this movie called I think it's
- 31:15in Kantu and Kantu and Kantu. This is with the kid he goes he
- 31:19like he turns into the dead, like he turns this into the dead for
- 31:22yeah, yeah, yeah, I think it's in Kanto, in Kanto.
- 31:25Then there was Coco. Oh no, Coco Yo go is the movie out?
- 31:29Like Coco is very good. Coco is very good. No, I'm
- 31:32not gonna lie, like I wouldn't put it above Toy Story or two,
- 31:37but it's a close. It's my second. It's good. But the problem
- 31:40with a lot of these movies are they're so new and it's not something I
- 31:42grew up with. So like Josh loves The Incredible, it's because that's probably
- 31:45something you watch when he was really young, and that plays a big impact.
- 31:48Like I said, my favorite movie is Transformers. If I watched Transformers
- 31:52from nineteen eighty six when I was thirty years old for the first time,
- 31:55I'd be like, this is the fucking dumbest thing ever. No, the
- 31:57thing is no. I went into the movie watching that movie Coco like I'm
- 32:00an adult, like my niece, and my niece wants to watch the movie.
- 32:04You know how you don't pay attention to what but as you start watching,
- 32:07you start getting more and more in tune. And with the movie that
- 32:12just happened, you rocking. Now you're rocking with the songs. That's what
- 32:15made me fall in love with I love the story and the music. Well,
- 32:17that was one of Pixar's like last big hits or Disney's last big heads.
- 32:23Who came out with the movie Wish. That was a bomb, that
- 32:27was Disney. That was just Disney. I mean it made no money,
- 32:30It made no money. I thought it was terrible. Also, I hated
- 32:34Wish. That was like the most generic. It felt like it was an
- 32:37artificial intelligence, like a computer is like right, generic fucking cartoon. Did
- 32:42you see The East? They had what they have in it? The East?
- 32:45The Mickey ears at the end that the guy you know, the evil
- 32:50Sorcerer guy. What about him? What happens to him when he gets like
- 32:52sucked into like a Maria or something like that? Was he like the evil
- 32:57mirror from snow White? Yeah? Oh wow? Now now the DC the
- 33:02Disney universe is all connected. Josh, do you have a favorite cartoon show
- 33:07though? Well, y'all brought up Doug Doug Funny. I know for a
- 33:09fact if they were the show his adult life, I know he got all
- 33:12the hoes now Doug watch Dog though I did, I swear, I swear
- 33:16he does. I just have a feeling. I just feel like, listen,
- 33:21yo. So he didn't get with Patty, right, Yeah, but
- 33:22I just feel like over the course of you know, certain evolutions and things,
- 33:25and it's like he might have the hose right now. I don't know.
- 33:28I don't even even know if he made it to an adult. He
- 33:30was very depressed that Doug. Another cartoon story, come on, you know,
- 33:36but I did enjoy Doug. You you said ones that were slept on
- 33:39you obviously if you asked me about any type of animated show. The first
- 33:43dought, in my mind is going to be not the entire run, but
- 33:46the first three seasons of SpongeBob. A lot of people your age love the
- 33:51SpongeBob. I like SpongeBob, but you guys, really you know close?
- 33:53Do you know what close? SpongeBob? What do you call it? Close?
- 33:55SpongeBob Kids, Lord or the SVU that because it's the one show take
- 34:02because look, Laura, or to SBU's one of those shows that no matter
- 34:06what episode it is, you can just sit down and you can watch it.
- 34:09That is something that a lot of shows are missing. And we're gonna
- 34:13actually pivot to X Men ninety seven because that is one of those shows where
- 34:17you can't just put on a random episode as a formula that has been pretty
- 34:22popular in recent days of recent years, rather where every episode leads into the
- 34:28next episode, Like you can't just watch a breaking bad episode because you'll be
- 34:30lost. It's a continuing story. X Men ninety seven, Corey, did
- 34:35you end up finishing the season? I did? I did. What did
- 34:37you think as a whole? Because I thought it was fantastic. In fact,
- 34:42I think it surpassed the original series. I feel like in many ways
- 34:46it did. And that just was like I was just still mind bottled that
- 34:50they fired, like the Yeah, Bo Domeo was fired. He was the
- 34:54show runner, and there's no official reason as to why he got tired because
- 35:00he had an only fan. That's he does have an only fans, but
- 35:02apparently Disney knew he had an only fans prior to him he hired. You
- 35:07know. The dope thing about him was was like throughout the season he was
- 35:09giving you homework as Simons. Okay, this is how this is gonna fit
- 35:13well on Twitter, Like he's not associated with the show, but he was
- 35:15associated with the show. He had to have done something really bad Disney fire.
- 35:22If they are smart, they bring him back. If you can't bring
- 35:27him back, at least let him ghost write it or let him go somewhere
- 35:30else. You know that that happens from time to time. Where you know,
- 35:34James Gone famously got fired by Disney, then DC swooped him up,
- 35:37but then he came back. He came back, But now he's back with
- 35:39DC officially. I don't know if his brand of humor and storytelling is going
- 35:46to translate to something like Superman. Isn't he technically like one of the big
- 35:50you know, he was talking about nepotism, He's one of the biggest nepotism
- 35:52guys wife all his movies. But the wife is pretty talented. She's gonna
- 35:59be playing Sue Storm actually in the MCU, you know, the Invisible woman
- 36:06from the Fantastic Four, and he ain't working at Marvel no more so clearly
- 36:09you know she has some guy. Yeah, but yeah, that is you
- 36:14know, I don't know. I'm not the Listen if I became famous,
- 36:17or if you know, Josh or you became famous, I would hope you'd
- 36:21be like, listen, you know, let me help you out. What's
- 36:22your favorite episode of this X Men series. I thought episode five when Genosha
- 36:29gets you know, spoiler alert gets destroyed and Gambit sacrifices his life, that
- 36:34was some of the best television I've ever seen. Actually not cartoon. Yeah
- 36:39it was. It was really depressing and I was just sitting there watching the
- 36:45credits like that just happened. Yeah. Well, and they actually made a
- 36:50mistake with Rogue. That's one thing I want to get too quickly is the
- 36:52voice acting we talked about before the they I get. I get the fact
- 36:57that you wanted to keep the original act as, but some people's voices they
- 37:01they age. Sometimes you just got to say, you know, it's not
- 37:06working out, and yes it's sad, but you know, just to give
- 37:09context to Josh. So, you know, this show X Men was a
- 37:13show that was out over thirty years ago and they just brought it back after
- 37:16you know, twenty five year hiatus, and they're using a lot of the
- 37:20voice actors and actresses from the original series. Now, obviously these actors and
- 37:27actresses age where the cartoon characters don't. So you're having a woman who's in
- 37:31her late sixties voicing somebody that's supposed to be in their thirties, and it's
- 37:36not hitting. Yeah, it's very because like the character of Rogue is very
- 37:43She was like my biggest cartoon crush. The animation didn't do her a little.
- 37:49They did a little disserviance. No, they didn't as Yeah, no,
- 37:52they That's another thing they're taking away. You know, all these cartoon
- 37:54characters. They took away Lola Bunni's ass, they're taken away Rogue's ass,
- 37:59all the green eminem Oh, the desexualization of Lola Bunny really broke my heart
- 38:04right that whole movie. Don't get me started with the money that movie could
- 38:09have been. This is how you make Space Jam two work, then we'll
- 38:13finish up on Next Men. You get Michael Jordan, You do whatever the
- 38:16fuck you can to sign Michael Jordan to this movie. You have Lebron James,
- 38:21Who's like, when you think of Lebron, you think of obviously the
- 38:24greatness of him being a player, But I think one of the first things
- 38:28you think of is him joining that super team, right forming the Alliance.
- 38:32Wait, you would have him to be the villain. I would have him
- 38:35be the villain. And this would have to be a big ego check for
- 38:37Lebron because he'd have to turn heel and I know he doesn't want to be
- 38:40dislike, but you have him join the Monstars. Like, listen, if
- 38:45I can't win without you guys, I'm gonna join the Monstars. Then then
- 38:47you get you get the match up. Wait, you would make Jordan.
- 38:52You would make Jordan more popular lef Ron. Hey, but it's gonna make
- 38:55the better story everyone talks about anytime he turned on First Take or any radio
- 39:00show, Jordan versus Lebron, Jordan versus Lebron. They can do it in
- 39:05a movie, like what would I do? I've already been the villain before
- 39:08it didn't work out for me. Well, I think I think if he
- 39:10played into it. And how about this, Corey, Remember in wrestling,
- 39:15you play the villain really good, you end up being liked. He gets
- 39:19a good performance. Okay, only the only way this worked, the only
- 39:22way that works out is if you're doing what they're doing right now. W
- 39:24WI its like, Okay, Roman was the bad guy, nobody liked him,
- 39:29and when he tried to be good, nobody liked him. But now
- 39:31that he's bad guy, and now that there's a whole other group that's taking
- 39:36over, he can come back as the babyface. So if you're saying he
- 39:39joins the super team, he's the evil guy for most of the movie,
- 39:44or after the end he does he does a face, or in part two
- 39:46he's the bad guy, and then by part three you get a two picture
- 39:51deal out of this. Space Hime is like, okay, one time,
- 39:57Yeah, you get one summer off around, but I'm not gonna lie ruined
- 40:00it so you can't even do it that it was terrible. You can't even
- 40:01do that franchise. It was such a bad movie. But what I want
- 40:05to ask you a question about X Men ninety seven. Yeah, what did
- 40:07you think of, like though the very undertone, like I know some people
- 40:10picked up on it of a more relationship with Uhrine. Yeah, I'm all
- 40:16for it because X Men has always been something where they're talking about different aspects.
- 40:22They've always talked about the Mutants being outcasts with the beauty of the X
- 40:25Men, and stan Lee as the writer of that series, you know,
- 40:30the original comic run is he was touching upon things that couldn't be talked about,
- 40:34like racism. I mean he wrote this during the whole Civil rights you
- 40:37know uprising and you know Martin Luther King and all that stuff happening. This
- 40:42is when the X Men came out in the early sixties, and yeah,
- 40:45he used the Mutants as black people. I mean he was saying they're being
- 40:51outcast and not allowed to think. People always try to draw that correlation between
- 40:53Charge Xavier and Magneto as Malcolm Max and Martin Luther King. I mean,
- 40:59that's exactly what it's supposed to be, even though the Professor X Malcolm X
- 41:01would be the Magneto. But I mean, I so for X Men to
- 41:07do that, I have no issue with it. It's not it doesn't seem
- 41:10like it's a forced thing, like oh, we're just gonna have this to
- 41:13piss people off, or we're gonna have this to get controversy. No,
- 41:16this is on par with X Men. And the crazy thing is you and
- 41:19I can tell us very undertone because when I when I talked to my brother
- 41:22about you got that from that? I got No, I got it.
- 41:25Looked you didn't pick up on that. No, I definitely got that.
- 41:29But like the shower scene and the whole scene where he morphed into Gene and
- 41:34the like, she may not be able to say, but I will.
- 41:36Yeah, so yeah, I'm again. I think that's what I loved about
- 41:39X Men as I got older, is you know they're they're talking about things.
- 41:45They're talking about the Holocaust, anti Semitism, racism, gay rights.
- 41:50I mean, this is not I don't think like my four year old nephew
- 41:53would understand majority of what's going on with this show. You want to go
- 41:58take the tour, the Uber, the Uber, I mean, uh what
- 42:00the is it? Should? Uh? AIRBNBA, the the X Mansion.
- 42:05I was going. I was very tempted. I would have to find out
- 42:08how far it was. It's cool that virtual reality exists now in a sense
- 42:13that you can do these sort of things that would be that would be a
- 42:16smart thing for them to do is to have a VR VRD game. Yeah,
- 42:21explore the house. I think that that's the future of entertainment is virtual
- 42:24reality now, maybe thirty forty years from now when it becomes accessible and easy
- 42:29to program, But that's gonna be pretty wild years. I don't. I
- 42:31don't. I have one. It's one of the when The thing about it
- 42:36is though it's one of the dopest experiences, but it gets very boring very
- 42:40quickly. Yeah, it seems like something that would give me a headache,
- 42:44and I just I want it to be perfected. You know. It's like,
- 42:47uh, these devices that you know come out, there's bugs, there's
- 42:52there's no it's not up to what it's going to be ten years from now.
- 42:57I want it. I want it to get to the point where it
- 42:59plays at a piece type level. To that point it'd be perfect. Because
- 43:02I played the Iron Man game. Yeah. Actually I did something at the
- 43:09Wax Museum. I went to the Wax Museum years ago, and they had
- 43:14an exhibit there where you could put on your you know, VR thing,
- 43:17and you put on a backpack and you were a ghostbuster and you would walk
- 43:22around and you had the proton pack and you'd walk around the city and you
- 43:25have to walk across this plank and it was insane and you're walking from room
- 43:30to room. They got that game on the VR. Now, Yeah,
- 43:35well, this whole exhibit though, did stuff like they added different smells because
- 43:39there you know, this is a museum, so they're able to add more
- 43:43than what you can normally do at your home. But like, once you
- 43:45defeat the State Puff marshmallow Man, they put in like a scent of marshmallow.
- 43:50It's pretty crazy what technology can do, but it's even crazier to think
- 43:53of what it's going to do. Let's move on to the main event though.
- 43:58Boys. We're gonna be talking about the boys right now, episodes four
- 44:00and five, I think, or what we're up to, because you guys
- 44:05talked about it on the Recess Bell, right, Josha a few weeks ago,
- 44:08we talked about it a little bit. Yeah, what did you guys
- 44:12think of episode four? Because for me, that is the best episode of
- 44:16what season I watch. Episode five. We'll get get into spoilers, by
- 44:20the way, so if anyone is worried about that. I thought episode four
- 44:24was the best because to me, the most compelling character on that show is
- 44:29easily Homelander, and that was a very Homelander centric episode. I didn't think
- 44:34the last episode like he fell back in this last episode, but it was
- 44:39like, you can see what he's pushing on Ryan is stuff that he expressed
- 44:44from his visit in episode four. Yeah, what did you think? What
- 44:47do you think of Ryan as a character. So he's the son of Homelander
- 44:52and Butcher is trying to basically rescue him from Homelander. I'm not a fan
- 44:59of the actor. I think he's very bad. You know, I just
- 45:02found out about the actor. That's funny and it's I guess this is the
- 45:06thing. How you know he's a twin? He that's that is common with
- 45:12Both of them are acting, right, Yeah, both of them are actors.
- 45:14And I'm not even sure if they're both playing him. I'm not even
- 45:16sure if both of them are playing him, but I think that's kind of
- 45:20I think they're both playing well that happens that The thing I didn't know about
- 45:24was the dude who played Iceman and x Men is a twin. Oh really,
- 45:30there's a lot of who else is a twin Linda Hamilton from Terminator,
- 45:35Like I'm talking about identical, so identical. So I don't know who's playing
- 45:38Iceman and who's playing Jimmy and super Smallville so I don't know. But as
- 45:43far as Ryan Ryan his character, his character, I feel it's conflicted because
- 45:47part of him wants to It's part of him wants to hit that humanity side
- 45:52of Butcher. Butcher's trying to bring him over, but it's just that evilness
- 45:57of Homelanded that's convince him. Like and when you look at certain, when
- 46:01you look at episode four when he was communicating with was that was he communicating
- 46:06with Butcher? Episode four? Yeah, they were having their football game.
- 46:10When you look at him that you show the good in him, Like how
- 46:14good he Ryan could be? Yeah, you know he understands his mom and
- 46:17everything like that, and he does have those awkward moments with Homelander. But
- 46:21then there's those moments with Homelander, you know it convinced, what what do
- 46:24you want to do? And it's like this last episode was like he basically
- 46:28made a dude just get bitch slapped by but I thought that was a good
- 46:32thing that Homelander did I think, Oh, it's showing that he's showing Brian
- 46:37that you are a you are above humanity. But is he wrong in that?
- 46:42I mean, I think I think, I think Homelander, Are you
- 46:45not seeing the wrongs I'm telling you? I think Homelander is gonna not maybe
- 46:51do a full face term, but I think they're gonna start showing, you
- 46:54know, and they already had why he is the way he is. Not
- 46:58that that makes it right for he's doing what What are you so shocked about?
- 47:02I had a face turn you said a face. I don't think he's
- 47:05going So we're all not seeing what this is leading to. Where is it
- 47:09leading to? Mister? I don't know. There was a there was a
- 47:13prominent guy in the nineteen forty who thought he was a superior race in certain
- 47:19people trying to lead to Jenna. Is any different than Magneto from that X
- 47:23Men show, you know? And he was a tortured soul like, oh,
- 47:27they're getting some sympathy on Homelander with episode four. I mean he was
- 47:32sympathy. Yeah, he was fucking cooked in another There's something, there's something
- 47:37that Kory is missing here too, because over the course of the boy's history.
- 47:39You know that that that that's saying. You know, Christ the Hunter
- 47:43looks like a phantom, unto a real phantom. Pull up, you know,
- 47:45Homelander was look a really Stormfront pulled up exactly and he was like,
- 47:49oh, whoa, whoa. She's like, He's like, I'm not a
- 47:52racist and everything, but I'm not that racist. You think Homeland is gonna
- 47:57get to that point. See up Front, her thing was she was thinking
- 48:01of the white race. She was thinking of white the white race. Homelanders
- 48:05thinking of the soups race. But you know he's thinking he's thinking of it
- 48:13in a superhero compacity. He's not thinking of the race. That's why when
- 48:15when he when when Stormfront brought up that whole thing about race, he was
- 48:19like, Okay, I'm not with you there, but when you talk about
- 48:22superheroes, yeah, I might be with you there. That's a fair point.
- 48:25I mean, listen, they don't know Homelander Front. I did enjoy
- 48:29episode four because I think that anytime you have a polarizing character like Homelander,
- 48:35I mean, you're always gonna have in the back of your mind like,
- 48:37yo, why is this dude, or why is this whoever it is,
- 48:39why are they the way that they are? Right? You can't look away
- 48:43when he's on screen, right, And they have gone into that before in
- 48:45the past, like we've seen obviously Soldier Boy last season we saw I forgot
- 48:52the actor. Shout out to my guy who plays the Soldier Boy last year?
- 48:57What actor was that? Supernatural? He played Dean. I'm not the
- 49:00supernatural. I don't know what the names escaping me too. I've seen him
- 49:02in everything, Jason, j before you continued, Josh, Now, my
- 49:08memory is as far as short term goes, it's pretty shitty. He's still
- 49:13alive Soldier Boy right. No, No, he got taken out by Queen
- 49:17Mays. Yeah, and Queen Mavis. That's she's still. No, they
- 49:22show her, doesn't she have like an eye patch at the end of No,
- 49:24I swear to god, she's alive. Turned into mush. Yeah she
- 49:29done, she done? Really, I'll have to rewatch it. Then I
- 49:31thought they were both no, both dead. It was kind of unclear because
- 49:37you never know what these soups like. Some of them survived the craziest things.
- 49:39Yeah, you'll ever see, So a lot of it was unclear,
- 49:42But I'm glad. I'm glad the Boys ain't like the comics, because you've
- 49:45seen that whole debate going on. First, First off, if the Boys
- 49:49was like the comics, the first thing I'm gonna say is that Mother's Milk
- 49:52will have a completely different story. Yeah. I've never read or or looked
- 49:57into the difference between, but I think that's important. You don't want to
- 50:00do a carbon copy story of the comics people who thought, because some people
- 50:06are now finding out that it's kind of making a little bit of fun of
- 50:08the like maggot people finding out that it's kind of making a little fun of
- 50:12them, which is insane, like you're realizing now. So they liked it,
- 50:15so they're like, you know, the comics were actually better and everything
- 50:19like that, And I'm like, I'm not too sure about that because I'm
- 50:22not gonna front though this crazy. This is crazy. They scaled it back
- 50:25real really crazy, because that's what And then do you remember, I start
- 50:30like, it's like a god torch. It's like a guy who's like,
- 50:32uh, the lantern. So he got a flaming lantern. You see him
- 50:37certain times, but he's not in the group right now. In the comics
- 50:40he dies, but in the comics, soups really can't die. Their mind
- 50:45and everything can die, but they really their physical body can't die. So
- 50:49what happens They keep this guy locked up in a cage in a cage in
- 50:53the bottom of vault and they just feed him in ship all day. Yikes.
- 50:58Well, I think that reality that that is a rough way to go.
- 51:02Uh back back to Homelander, though, Uh, where do we see
- 51:07this character going? Because I think I think you know, they announced that
- 51:13this is ending season five. This is not something that's going to overstay.
- 51:15It's welcome, which is a big problem with a lot of shows. I
- 51:19feel like they're going to branch it off and then tink it to something else,
- 51:22like a spin off. This already exists. Yes, do you think
- 51:24that is a problem? Do you think? Because you know, this show
- 51:29I think was perfect because it came at a time where all these superhero shows
- 51:34and movies were coming out and people were sick of them, and this was
- 51:36everything that wasn't a superhero show. It's fun of all of it. And
- 51:40now if you start doing spinoffs and you have it's turning into what it was
- 51:45supposed to not be. Did you see did you see the actually make fun
- 51:47of that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Phase nineteen thirty five. I
- 51:52mean that was funny. It's like, Okay, we got this movie called
- 51:53Flip where you know, our body is a swamp. Yeah, it's funny.
- 51:59But again, I think there's something not noble, but there's just something
- 52:04cool about something going off the air at its peak. I mean that's why
- 52:08Seinfeld is this like historic show. Because it didn't stick around. It was
- 52:13the number one show. He was offered four million dollars per episode, and
- 52:15he was like, no, I'm good. Became an artifact of sorts.
- 52:20But then there are those shows like The Simpsons that's still on and it's just
- 52:23terrible. Some shows that never get there. They're just doing get that final
- 52:28episode like Elf. So yeah, and then like the dis Chappelle show,
- 52:32the Wayne's Brother Show. There's a lot of shows, and then there's also
- 52:37a lot of shows that shouldn't have been canceled right away. I mean,
- 52:39Freaks and Geeks is one of my favorite shows. I got one season.
- 52:42He got one season, the show with like whole bunch of people that turned
- 52:49out to be Hollywood. Yeah, big stars, but James Franco. But
- 52:54yeah, that's a that's a Fantastic show cook a little yeah, because I
- 52:59know the fantast movie Fantastic before movies came up. I still say that David
- 53:02Franco should have played the human I like the guy that's playing the human tortures
- 53:07just in the quiet place. He's the guy Eddie from Stranger Things. I
- 53:10think he's gonna do a really good job. I would have preferred. I
- 53:13would have preferred Dave Franco because he adds he's pause Paul when I say this,
- 53:19he's good looking for the role. Yeah, and then he adds that
- 53:22comedic relief. If you ever watch him in any of his things, he
- 53:25has it. I don't know what it is, just that that very sarcastic,
- 53:29comedic time. He's great. That Corey went the preemptive pause just to
- 53:32say he's good looking. I thought usually when you go preemptive pause, you
- 53:37like you've got to say some wild there's nothing wrong. They're looking for the
- 53:42role. But I felt as though he should. But getting back to the
- 53:44getting back to well, where do you think where do you think Homelanders story?
- 53:47Because like I said, death by Whom Butcher Ryan? Oh wait,
- 53:53actually you know what? You know what? I think it has to be
- 53:58Ryan, because I feel like he's the when that physical match up. And
- 54:00I think that they'll try to do is play on this story. Okay,
- 54:06I just thought of something. They could actually play on a story from the
- 54:09comics a little bit and accused Homelander doing I don't know if spoiled. No,
- 54:16you know what, I don't want to know anything just in case,
- 54:20just in case they end up using anything from the comic book. So I
- 54:22think it could be. I think it could be. I think it could
- 54:24be. Right, But you've seen what's happening with Butcher now, with him
- 54:28and his mysterious Butcher. Yeah, yeah, he was wrapped up with the
- 54:31tentacle dude or whatever, with the stretching guy, and then the screens short
- 54:36of went black and the thing that you've seen, the thing that's been crawling
- 54:38in his face. Yeah, so I believe I have a theory. Do
- 54:44you remember h Victoria Newman's daughter, the one that coming out of her face.
- 54:50I think Butcher got that. Oh yeah, but I still think he
- 54:54needs to die and Homelander needs to die. I think that. You here's
- 54:59the it's a big story to have it end with death. I could see
- 55:01that happening. I can see actually if Butcher gets close enough to Ryan,
- 55:06and I think Ryan Homelander is able to get Ryan back because he's Homelander.
- 55:09Towards the end of the season, you can see a plot where Butcher kind
- 55:13of plants those seeds in Ryan to kind of resent Homelander, and then season
- 55:19five begins and you're just kind of seeing his father son dynamic and we know
- 55:22Homelander. This is why I feel like Justin's right in terms of his downfall,
- 55:28Homelander's downfall, because Homelander has this thing with love. He needs to
- 55:31feel that love. No matter how hated he is, He's gonna have that
- 55:36thing for love. The only person love that's gonna be left to love him
- 55:38as his son. That's the only person that's gonna that connection is gonna exist.
- 55:43So that's really the only source of Homelanders downfall. I think it's gonna
- 55:45be right. I think Butcher, whether he dies or not, I do
- 55:49think he dies this season. I hope not because I love that he can't.
- 55:52He can't. We'll see what happens. But I think Butcher can plant
- 55:57seeds in Ryan Ryan Homelander season five. That's the higher the entire plot line.
- 56:00But that's the kind of the overarching story, and then you can see
- 56:04kind of homeland of Alby is the mist because that's what they've been setting it
- 56:07up as the entire I don't think. I don't think, but I think
- 56:09I think he's caving because he said I already took the vore, you took
- 56:14the v I don't think. I think as far as the good guys go,
- 56:17and you've pointed this out, it might have been all air, Josh.
- 56:21All these characters are flawed. There's nobody that's like fully good. There,
- 56:25there's nobody that's irredeemable. What did mother? What did mothers will do?
- 56:30Man? That man? Come on, what mothers will do except me
- 56:36except me? Trauma to us by having a dick wrapped throughout his neck,
- 56:39that's all? What did you do? Man? Every one of these characters
- 56:44had a very violently moment just because his was more relatable because of what happened.
- 56:47Only thing he can say is I hated my x Y boyfriend at this
- 56:52house. That's yeah, Okay, he didn't have to beat his ass in
- 56:54front of his daughter. And why is he the X? I mean,
- 56:58clearly he wasn't a good husband either, So, I mean he was not
- 57:00so like, there are flaws, but that makes them interesting. You don't
- 57:04want to have these cookie cutter, white bread characters Uie. I mean,
- 57:08I'd have to rethink of everything that. But I'm sure he's yourself, bro,
- 57:14Like, there's nothing and you just did what he just did with his
- 57:19pop. He didn't do that. His mom did it. No where did
- 57:22his mom get the idea from what she saw the v drop out of his
- 57:24pocket and she hey, she didn't pay, she didn't get the cold because
- 57:29he wasn't gonna do it. I just want he put both of them in
- 57:34that position. I mean, the only thing you can say he did have
- 57:37to kill us pops. He did have to kill us pops. But that
- 57:38was a good story. That was a good finale for that character. Who
- 57:44who? That was probably the only decent person in the entire uh you know
- 57:49series as far as not doing anything really bad except I guess keeping the fact
- 57:53that the mom was trying to contact Hueie. So yeah, but that that
- 57:58makes interesting characters to have flaw. I don't know how you guys don't see
- 58:01well Corey in particular, how do you not see not gonna say good in
- 58:07Homelander, but like, for instance, when they were talking about Ryan getting
- 58:13that TV show or movie whatever it was gonna be, and he was like,
- 58:16I don't want to do it. I felt like Homelander was like really
- 58:22starting to grow as a parent in a sense where he was like, you
- 58:25don't have to do it, you don't want to do it, you don't
- 58:28have to do it. I thought they had a nice bonding moment yet ended
- 58:30with him getting slapped, But like that guy deserved to get slapped. He
- 58:35was being a piece of shit to that to the Asian woman. It's not
- 58:37like I felt like that was the only reason why he's saying because you know,
- 58:40I had to do things I didn't want to do. But if you
- 58:43don't want to do you don't have to do it. But then at the
- 58:45end he still showed him you're superior forcing me do it, forced her to
- 58:50slap him. Slap him is like that, don't he's still in redeemer,
- 58:54I know, But out of all the awful things, out of all the
- 58:58heads he's blown up, I feel he's growing. Would have snapped someone's neck.
- 59:02No he's not, he's not. I'm mad that you actually see him
- 59:10I've seen listen Darth Vader think about all the ship that he's done, and
- 59:15he got that redemption moment he talking about if we if we keep it,
- 59:21if we're keeping it a buck From when he was manipulated but two, but
- 59:24two, he's always had this plot of I really want to betray this guy.
- 59:29I really want to get him out of the galaxy. Okay, and
- 59:30that's literally I think a lot of what is in Homelander he was betrayed and
- 59:36he was manipulated. Is I mean, did you not he does? I
- 59:40get if you're saying that he wants to take out and you know he wants
- 59:45to actually save people, I can give you that, but no, what
- 59:47it seems like he wants to do is take vought out, take out the
- 59:51government, and be ran by soups. I guess we're watching different shows,
- 59:57Corey. How do you not get I was saying, I don't know.
- 1:00:00But as far as I think, I think, you know, we've been
- 1:00:05talking for for quite some time. I think we need to get back to
- 1:00:08the show eventually. Usually the series seasons are pretty short, right, They're
- 1:00:13usually like eight episodes. That's another issue somewhere that's I hate that it's like
- 1:00:17eight episodes and you have to weigh two three years. I mean they but
- 1:00:21they do give you like these little shows in between, like they give you
- 1:00:23Jim V. They gave you this other show. No, they gave you
- 1:00:25this other show where it was like they gave you a perspective of like it
- 1:00:30was like I don't want to say, like five or six episodes, right,
- 1:00:31but each each each style of episodes of this was like it was a
- 1:00:36boys story pause, but but it was told and it was animated in different
- 1:00:42styles. It gave you a backstory of like Homeland, his first uh,
- 1:00:45his first save, like his first save went horribly wrong and he wound up
- 1:00:49killing everybody, to the point where Black and War had to come in and
- 1:00:52try to like I guess handle the situation animated. Yeah, but he had
- 1:00:57to try to, Like, yeah, he tried to. He tried to
- 1:00:59sit Sandals situation Homeland and thinking that he just got caught doing something dangerous,
- 1:01:04tried to kill his dude, Black and Wall Black wos like this the whole
- 1:01:06thing, Like no, and then it's like a whole bunch of different stories.
- 1:01:10It's like it's kind of crazy. The Starlight or Homelander thing. It's
- 1:01:14funny though, I think Starlight, well, I never really there was never
- 1:01:16a point in time where I enjoined Starlight's character. I just say that it
- 1:01:21is weird that here we found out she had an abortion, like, you
- 1:01:23know, it was your body, your choice, you know. He's like
- 1:01:25he basically think like he didn't mind. He's like, yeah, it's like,
- 1:01:29I'm like, you didn't care at all. You didn't care at all.
- 1:01:34She had your kid a little bit like, no, no resentment,
- 1:01:37nothing. It was like, Okay, she felt she felt more resentment to
- 1:01:40herself than here he felt. I was like, okay, she felt more
- 1:01:45angry. She felt more angry, and it just showed that, you know,
- 1:01:49she got asked. Fire Craig got asked when she exposed, and that
- 1:01:52was I think one of the few scenes that I was kind of like,
- 1:01:54yeah, way to go Starlight, because I think she is one of the
- 1:01:58weaker characters as far as caring for She's losing her power a little bit.
- 1:02:01Yeah, yeah, yeah, here's I just think that star Lighter, star
- 1:02:06Lighter, Starlight, she just like it's not the what does she even do?
- 1:02:14Her characters kind of land a little bit. That's why I call characters
- 1:02:16a white bread, wheat bro She's just a piece of white bread. It's
- 1:02:20a little better than it's more entertaining than wheat bread. I give this the
- 1:02:22first season. Her character is interested because she had an actual foil with the
- 1:02:28boys, like I mean, not the boys with the with the seven because
- 1:02:31of what they what they did to like in the comics, who is way
- 1:02:35worse. I don't doubt it was all of them. And then Queen may
- 1:02:39was like, I mean, the boys got their terms tough for me to
- 1:02:43get minds, Queen Maye is a lot worse than That's true. That's true.
- 1:02:45I got to read the comics, the comic on that. I feel
- 1:02:52like, we can see you ducky well. They better film this next season
- 1:02:58because Aaron Moriarty is gonna turn into I don't know what Fat Removal said.
- 1:03:06You know who cared. I'm just not feeling this here frenchy French. Oh
- 1:03:10yeah, I never cared for why do they do that to Frenchie? Like,
- 1:03:14I was like, why they do what's the Frenchie ahead? I feel
- 1:03:20like they turned and feel like that. I felt like he probably was by
- 1:03:22but I didn't notice that. I probably just weren't paying attention. I thought
- 1:03:25he I thought he was. I thought him and well they they're calling him
- 1:03:30is what? What was it? Sexually ambiguous? I didn't think that he
- 1:03:32was. I don't think he's rong with it. And then it's like,
- 1:03:35oh, I killed his family, his family, I'm so convicted. And
- 1:03:40then it's like, but then again, why see, I'm just gonna be
- 1:03:45pro Homelander here. Why is he get to kill all these innocent people and
- 1:03:49be a hero. That's that's the beauty of the show. There's no about
- 1:03:52it. No character you can prop upon a like I'm rooting for this,
- 1:03:57because no, you gotta really look at to every character story and can we
- 1:04:00all admit that? But you's actually losing his mind. He's talking to somebody
- 1:04:04who's not there. Yeah, I feel like that guy's not there. And
- 1:04:08episode five, we haven't talked about it, like a fight COLDE situation is
- 1:04:11happening. Episode five we haven't really talked about a lot like this new Well,
- 1:04:14it was introduced in gen V. That's the one thing in gen V
- 1:04:17that you wouldn't really have known about that was referencing the boys. This was
- 1:04:21really the first episode that that took place. This virus that can take out
- 1:04:25soup. That was that was introduced very quickly in the show. But so
- 1:04:30yeah, I guess it was because I didn't really get that. And the
- 1:04:32thing that I'm confused about with them introducing it is so you know, they
- 1:04:36said that you know, you have injected and then it's like that and and
- 1:04:41and gen V is basically like all it has to do is get airborne and
- 1:04:45it could kill anybody, Like once it gets out is out. That's how
- 1:04:47I was described in gen V. But it is it's like you got to
- 1:04:50inject the person. This person can only transmit it through lick, through sex
- 1:04:56or sex or through lick uh the liquids. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:00I'm like that was not that was not suggested in the show. But maybe
- 1:05:02that's why they pitched this deep in sister sage relationship. Good god, that's
- 1:05:12just that that's a weird relationship. Well what did it? Was it the
- 1:05:15lobotomy or was it him cheating on his octopus the lobotomy? You know the
- 1:05:20crazy ship. I found out about the octopus who was voicing the dimn octopus?
- 1:05:24Who the lady from Doctor Stranger, who was the monk? Oh?
- 1:05:29Really, I did not know. Yeah, Like I was, like,
- 1:05:32I was surprised. Why she's come on, let's go, let's go another
- 1:05:36round. I'm like, why are you doing this? Well? The show
- 1:05:40is wild. It's like I said, it's everything that these superhero films aren't.
- 1:05:44And uh, you know, it pushes the envelope with its violence,
- 1:05:46with its sexuality and storytelling, and I'm all for it. I think it's
- 1:05:51a fan. He just laying low, right, And we have a training
- 1:05:57a train ain't we were talking about here? You know what you talk about
- 1:06:01Homeland and becoming the more being redeemed A trainers trying to redeem him exactly.
- 1:06:06Why can't he redeem himself with Homelander actually put in the work he's given?
- 1:06:12Give him time? Homeland a trained has been helping the boys out in season
- 1:06:16one, was running Hugh's life by killing his girlfriend. But did he not
- 1:06:19But did he not give him like time at the top of crucial information that
- 1:06:24they needed to Yeah? Sure, but I mean we gotta we can't forget
- 1:06:27about what started. The dog was high, he's hot, he is dying.
- 1:06:31He was not actually in his right mind, and we're being honest,
- 1:06:33that's his fault that we don't call that homic that manslaughter. Okay. In
- 1:06:42the political turn politics, he was not in his right frame of mind.
- 1:06:46He was on. He was on he was what was on? He was
- 1:06:49in v was he? No, he was on something because he was like,
- 1:06:54uh, he gave him like it was like steroids. It's like cocaine
- 1:06:57for the No, it was it was it was it was. It was
- 1:07:00yeah, because I know his girlfriend got on it and she just got over
- 1:07:04sexualized. She crushed Helene Leewi's head. By the way, we talk about
- 1:07:10the how it's a lot worse than the comics, but I think people that's
- 1:07:13just getting into the show and they see all the gory stuff that happens,
- 1:07:15Like if you tell him that, you know, if you if you haven't
- 1:07:18watched it, and then you tell them in the comics it's kind of a
- 1:07:20little crazier than they're gonna be. Like they probably can't even comprehend it,
- 1:07:25like I go for I don't. They haven't seen a scene with small dude
- 1:07:29goes into another man and then he sneezes and then that that was the beginning
- 1:07:33of the last season season three. That was crazy and the hero guys and
- 1:07:39we're not going to talk, you know, and I mean small girl is
- 1:07:46that it was crazy? That was crazy quickly before we wrap things up,
- 1:07:51who's living by the end of the show. I think a Train dies this
- 1:07:56season because they got they have to kill somebody. That's big. One thing
- 1:08:00I will say about eight Trainer that he's learning how to stick and move right
- 1:08:02because he gave that information to Ashley. I think she's gonna die. No,
- 1:08:09I don't think so. I don't think so. I think I think
- 1:08:12she'll live. The character. I think a Train might have a chance because
- 1:08:15he's learning how to kind of manipulate his way in and out of situations.
- 1:08:17We'll know if he gets eventually by Homelander and Sage because they seem to be
- 1:08:21onto him a little bit. I could see Frenchy dying. Yeah, I
- 1:08:25can see that happening too. I can see that being a big kind of
- 1:08:29prop up for Comico too. Yes, And I think, like I mentioned
- 1:08:33at the beginning of this, I think Butcher and Homelander kind I think I
- 1:08:38kind of need Victorian him in to die because I don't if she is she
- 1:08:41if she continues to how she gonna die. She got shot in the face
- 1:08:44like five times. Ready, this season. She she ain't budget bit.
- 1:08:46How's she gonna die? She's gonna get got she ain't gonna There's no way
- 1:08:50to really get unless that virus actually work. There's no way to get a
- 1:08:54guy. That's why I'm like, why are they hiding from sheep? You
- 1:08:58know, I just thought about, you know, who actually would be Victoria
- 1:09:01Newman's worst enemy to like fight? Who would that be since the Sage?
- 1:09:08Why? Why do you say that? Since the sage? As she said,
- 1:09:11I could get stabbed in my heart and die. But the one thing
- 1:09:13they could happened to me is I could get my head range, I could
- 1:09:16get my head. I get my head, I get shot in the head,
- 1:09:18and I could live. I was like, this play literally that is
- 1:09:24Victor. Victoria Neuman's only power is popping head. So guess what really doesn't
- 1:09:29work. I'll be back in a couple of house. Yeah, that's something
- 1:09:30I think that they'll get to. But you know, we've been going for
- 1:09:34a while. I think we need to come back once the season ends,
- 1:09:39and we'll do a season recap and talk more bullshit. But thank you guys
- 1:09:43for joining me on this edition of the film Real. We got to a
- 1:09:45lot of topics, but there's always more to talk about, so hopefully you
- 1:09:47guys will join me in a few weeks. We'll recap the Boys and thank
- 1:09:50you all for listening. Have a good one everyone, Bye bye,
